"Hey also just decide no blue yankees only up one run bottom of seven against baltimore please please orioles. Just help us out. Unlike last you coffee to our come on you know they do. Guess the question. Laura's and to a lesser degree but not less important minoa. I really liked the confidence that i've been seeing from him Just the production has been good. And it's giving me again the confidence of trotting him out there again if we make ale. Ds he screamed sort of like the stroman that game five kind of thing. Same number and everything. He just has that confidence and he doesn't piss me off nearly as i just i like. I like the The arrogance if you will. I'm sure from people that aren't bluejays. Fans that watch. Alex minoa pitch against their favorite team. They probably think he's super arrogant. And i get it and you. Probably if he wasn't wearing blue jays air probably wouldn't like them but the fact that he pitches with such confidence and he doesn't lay down. He's given me confidence to see him. Pitch even as a rookie. Teeing pitch in the postseason. I am not at all has into give him the ball. Newbie i wanna make fun little You mentioned the content of his not like you said not arrogance but the fact that it's just you know he's exuding Competence right his attitude for opposing. Teams has gotta be reminding people oppose a little bit. That i'd like domino. Come out here. i'm gonna put her shut up kind of like attitude right. at least that's how it seemed from the outside looking in right we've seen him hanging out with you and he's yell i think the only pitcher that jumps into a colbrunn's celebration with anybody on any things like that the guy the guy's gonna be fun to watch for his career or we're already seeing it but out so it's good times for trump blue jays and young pitching so i guess we talked lord gorell junior. Let's talk picks to click and right now the way the leaderboard has hashing out. Mr panic are starting to run away with it. A little bit adam so we better hurry up and break tie and see if we can get back in the playoffs here. So to that point brennan pick boba shot madame. "The Yankees pulled out a four three win over the Orioles on Brett Gardner's two run single off Tyler wells in the ninth inning obviously you don't want to be in a situation where it's the last inning you're you're down a run or two but you know you you want to be up there with the game on the line and obviously you know I feel like I've been having pretty good at bats recently and see in the ball well Carter also scored a G. over shell S. two run Homer in the third inning of new York's fourth win in five games since a seven game skid Nestor Cortes was sharp in a no decision for the Yankees limiting the Orioles to one run and three hits with eleven strikeouts over six in the third the Yankees remain tied with the red Sox and blue jays for the two AL wild card positions I'm Dave Ferrie

"I really don't like you have players as you mentioned. Craig boba shit fight. He's he's literally hitting balls that are always to the ground out of the park right he. He's just raising which is so. You're talking lot nothing without even much effort right. Lord is is finally showing up took a all season divinely. Show up by showing up at the right time semi and it's sort of the whole cea crazy. He always he started in the lowest lows. And it's been a constant shoot where he's obviously doing what he did to the yankees a few years ago. Yeah it was it was it was a slow crescendo to the arrival of laura's guerrilla right now But also you know vladimir guerrero junior starting to heat back up as i mentioned simeon springer. He's definitely still hurt. But you got to admire the the desire to get out there to help his team by enemies like we said all hands on deck in previous episodes and hi kevin beige l. is looking really good in buffalo. And it's only a matter of time before he comes no serious offensively. He's looked pretty good. Yes and even though still a minor league tank. The last few weeks something about being in buffalo pound barron chicken wings. Apparently it when you come back up to the show the show yeah but not when. Nfl games against but look at it. Regardless wants his team fully clicks. And it's only a matter of time before video joins. The squad wants this team fully clicks with video and if the pitching can remain consistent if you can just just slightly improved just a little bit. I need to see a little bit more out of him. I think we're in good shape. I really do. I think this team with the drive offensively with the defensive production in terms of pitching in the bullpen. as even been that bad lately I just see how you can slowdown especially against the twins. I don't care you know brennan you talked about the trump. I'm not even that afraid. We talked last week. We figured it one game against tampa bay one. Oh that's all. I'm hoping for for sure but we predicted want at home. I know that one to watching them in game one that talks about on this show last week that if they wanted to really solidify themselves and be good for the rest of the season to be able to run with what they've been doing regardless of the fact that they did. They exceed all of our expectations over last three weeks. Even though we were all keeping the faith they they did the part they need do while. They're at home against the raiders. Had a winning record. Now if they go back into split that up or take the losing side at that three-game series in the trump. Okay great that was five hundred against the best one of the best teams in baseball and we have to make sure we beat up on the yankees orioles twins and etc. We go down the line here. Dodgers Clinch Their Ninth Consecutive Playoff Berth

"Like to welcome in now the greet buster only espn baseball insider host of the baseball tonight. Podcast can follow at buster underscore. Espn buster always great to talk to you. Guys are man so buster. The dodgers clinched their ninth street playoff spot with a win last night. How important is it for them to actually win the division though with these surprising giants well. It's it's absolutely huge. The funny thing was about nine days ago. We had the dodgers and giants sunday night. Baseball and i asked that very question of neighbors. The dodgers manager any kind of blinked looked at me and he goes. You know what it's too out. I haven't even given a thought right. He's still in the moment of the regular season. But you know now down the stretch with less than three weeks ago it's going to become a focal point because we've seen time and again how great players can be derailed. By that wildcard game. There were a couple of years Seven eight years ago when it looked like at the end of the regular season the pittsburgh pirates were the best team in the national league but they had to go through wildcard game and it back to back years they face madison bumgarner to the beginning of the greatest postseason run. We've ever seen any pitcher that was in two thousand fourteen and they lost and then the next year they got jake arrieta at the end of the greatest second half we ever saw from pitcher And they lost again and so the dodgers have a chance to be the first team to win back to back titles since The nineteen ninety. "Sorry craig is you did mention the tiebreaker thing. There and somebody broke it down this morning. If the blue jays tie the yankees for the first wildcard spot the wildcard game is in toronto. So you're right if they tie the red sox for first wildcard than the red sox host the wildcard game in the blue jays. To fenway yankees. Miss if they tied for the second wildcard spot. I think any combination if you tied for the second one. It's not really clear. But there's a one game playoff for the second wildcard spot. If i think either way if the yankees and the blue jays tie the tweet wasn't overly clear but if there is a tie for the second wildcard spot then there will be a game one sixty three for that final spots so lots of possibilities so out of those possibilities guys. Obviously we've seen some things going on in the american league period and that is the fact that the red sox at shown a have a slight shaken their armour here brandon The yankees finally look like they've gotten back in step a little bit but they're really. There's definitely something flawed with that team. And they're not playing like we've been playing same thing. I can save with the oakland as in seattle mariners out of those other teams that are competing for wildcard spot. Assuming the blue jays keep some rhyme or reason of what's going on right now with their form. Where do you think those other teams are falling out. Oh i don. I don't think the the mariners as much of a shot anymore being three and a half back for back both of them respectively. They play each other seven more times before the season's over so if they split it go four and three three and four whatever it is then i think there's while they basically eliminate each other the only way the mariners the stay in the race is if one of them wins like six of seven or even maybe five of seven and that could help stay afloat but even then they still gotta make up that ground to catch one of the teams that are in there so i'm not worried anymore or the mariners unless one of them totally dominates the other and that helps them stay afloat..

Somebody for trump goes in like gets in with these firefighters and police officers their you know high fiving down and listen to their stories and telling him how much you appreciate them. And somehow that's the wrong thing to do which blows my mind. Cause i'm thinking. I'm not going to criticize other people. But there's one thing that i think. "You know over the last few years daily fantasy sports has dominated the sport seen a couple years ago. You couldn't turn on the tv or radio without hearing the commercials. That book is dealing with kings and the writer is daniel. Barberie see who was the yankees beat writer for the wall street journal. And we're lucky to have daniel on the phone with us now daniel. Thanks for joining us. Grammy dan first off dealing with kings is an amazing eye-opening book. And as i said before you were already in the sports scene but it took another sportswriter to turn onto daily fantasy sports. So how'd that come about. It was pretty crazy. I mean i haven't really heard a daily fantasy sports at all until about april may of two thousand fifteen when i was covering the yankees upper wall street journal as you noted and Another spokesman reaction in the press. Aaron Boone's Bullpen Decisions Don't Make Any Sense

"Like the managerial stuff in that sense is insane to me. We can talk about moving Joey Gallo to the two hole when he did earlier in the week and last week when it was just clearly not. I don't know how you do that. When he's the worst hitter on the team, laboratories is the worst player on this team. I'll just have to say that. It's just so by far. And then the pitching decisions I'll quickly go through. It's the bullpen. Look, you need your man. Your team top to bottom is going to do this. Not as bad as the Yankees are doing it. But your team is not going to be clicking and you're going to need some help in the form of the guy running the club. The guy who's executive decisions can sway the momentum of a game or can save the team can stop the bleeding at any point or can save the team from themselves and Aaron Boone continually does not do that. The Yankees the Yankees have Luis heel on the mound on Wednesday. Was he looking good? No, was he was he looking bad? No, he was wild. He issued 7 walks in that one. He finally ended up giving up his first runs of the season because of Aaron Boone's decision. But he'll walk he got one out. He walked two batters and then boom leaves him in for another batter. What do you think's gonna happen? He has no control. So instead of taking him out there and having the bullpen home, we're at the game, we're standing there at the game looking at the bullpen. There's nobody going in the bullpen. Louis seal is missing the strike zone. Batter after batter after batter, then file they're like we're at the game. There's like four guys up in the Jays bowl. Builder that basically that. That's exactly what happened boone. Said he he if you if you heard him speak after the game you would have thought that it was nineteen ninety-six greg maddux. They say so. That's dot can't believe you still listen to all the press conferences i do. It's it's the funniest it's it's the best. Tv show every night. Like when there's the thing i'm like. Oh my god three outs than i. You know i get. I get close up the house ready for bed. Get in bed put on that in. It's like ten minutes of just the funniest stuff you'll ever hear it's unbelievable. They need the to put themselves in a position when they go to oakland for four games at the end of the month. That split is totally fine. Yeah that's what i have before we go. I'll run through kansas city in seattle. I lumped together to win five at seven there. That's not unreasonable. Baltimore six games last at lost. The other night hurts but they have to win. Five at six The white sox. You just can't get swept you can't happen angels. Four games left as have that. Make up one game at home. When three out of four. The boston in tampa series are keeping. You have to win but all thriller series. You have to go forward to against boston to one against tampa. That's probably the hardest thing they have to do. Oakland you can go to into toronto lauren. Three cleveland to one nets to unwind. I mean they have to win all the series pretty much except for one if they want to get to ninety six in the window division and then the twins braves rangers nine games there. They have to win six or seven of those it. it's doable. it's not outrageous. It's just the put themselves like. I said in a position where you cannot have one one bad day or it's it's off. If that happens that would be a pretty stunning turnaround for a team. That's been wildly inconsistent to this point in the season so it all happened. I think it ends up being like a six eighty. Five win percentage since the all-star break which is the yankee teams have done things like that they've gone on runs like that but it's a good with this with no all his idea. Yankee started off vertically if you think back to what was it two thousand eighteen when the team won like eighteen nineteen like crazy shit like that. They need something like like right here with this thirteen game. Stretch like they went through against miami. They went to three gets baltimore now. Seattle now kansas city if they go like eleven to hear that does wonders for this pace and they can even screw up a couple more times down the stretch. But it's tough but it can happen. Hey i needed to happen. They if this team gets wildcard spot. It's like gets a second wildcard spot lose burnt coal and then he can't fish the game three or four. It was a waste of the season anyway but if the team is playing better at the end of the year and actually wins the wildcard game and then can is playing well into the first first round of the playoffs that i don't know we'll forget about it if they win. But you're right. If they lose because garrett cole had to pitch wildcard game then it's obviously. We're all going to be disappointed. All right. I know you got to wrap it up. Neal thanks so much for joining and everyone listening if something crazy happens tonight because we're recording before thursday's game. I'll be back on to talk about it all right. Thanks joey gallo with his signature. Yankee moment according to michael kay. He dropped the signature. Yankee moment with the three run home. Run in the seventh-inning to give the yankees the lead they held on dear life. They held on Chapman made interesting as he usually does. Wouldn't say he was hit hard by any means in the ninth inning He certainly maybe didn't have his control but Couple of weird fluky things and then the ball of the warning track at the end the yankees got the win. So obviously i'm recording after. I just do the podcast that you heard with. Neil thanks for coming on. He we had to cut it short a little bit so ended a little abruptly he He also just had a baby pretty recently. And i get to go. Go watch him so we had to wrap up fairly quickly but Again thanks for neo for coming on. Go check out his show kief to the city he does it Pretty regularly Covers all new york sports but Definitely yankees as well so they. They came back. they beat. they beat seattle a game as neilan our talking about these are the teams. You absolutely have to beat if the yankees are going to make the playoffs. I still think they're most realistic chance to. The playoffs is through the wildcard..

"And of course what star. The knicks are going to be trading for next right here on knicks film school. Do you know what pissed me off from. Yesterday's game is rizzo. Has the fourteen pitch at bat in the first inning and it actually gets it ends in a walk but like crowd is on their feet and their subdue s- in the building and the judge twenty twenty-seven hopper to the on the first pitch. It's like awful announced three straight out at that's the yankees put together in big spots between judge and staying in labor and when when hicks was the team earlier in the season. It's appalling it. Just i don't know and that's why i say night. But that's that's why. I said a couple of minutes ago. It's like yes. The additions of gallow and rizzo were necessary. And i like them both and on paper. The lineup looks way better. Because you can. Go lefty righty. and it's just. It's just rizzo doesn't strike out as much. But then you still have the holes in the lineup. Where the hell's gleyber torres. And when the hell is he gonna ever show up is on the podcasts. I just did With derek alvin Yesterday when is dj. Lemay who gonna turn back into All-star player so gary sanchez is now kovic so you have hagi. You know he. I know he's he's the is. Apparently he's the best receiving catcher in the history of baseball. But guess what he can't hit so so so the lineup. Everyone chirps outline. They're like see it's like if you have to point out every single dime the guy gets on base you should recognize. There's approaches like which is what like twenty eight percent of the time to overseas giancarlo. Giancarlo gets a big hit. You again billion people saying what is your criticism of. it's like. Yeah you if you have to point out when the guy making thirty two million dollars. It's a home run. That's a problem. So i don't want i don't wanna make this just a bitch fest right. So let's talk about something that i actually was excited about this week. And that's louis. He'll he'll soft g he'll He had a lot riding on these days. Not ready so the show look like he had electric stuff. i think. Mlb pipeline graded his fastball. Seventy five out of eighty so if you believe in the in the scouting and all that kind of stuff. That's an elite fastball. with a high spin rate. That's i mean. It's this is one of the pitchers that had been on like their their list of like good stuff kind of pitchers but like when are we ever going to see them. So i was very excited. About what i saw. It was a great debut. I would much rather see him. Get a few more starts than andrew heaney. I don't need to see andrew handy. It was a lottery ticket. I think maybe they lost out on berrios. The price is too high. There were some reports. That cashman was looking at trevor story to the deadline. The price was too high so they had to sort of pivot to different plans. Okay so andrew heaney is someone that you can just sorta get off the scrap heap and As a lottery ticket. I know what that lottery ticket is gonna turn into. Let's let's say lewis hill pitch for. Yeah i mean this is a guy who the continue to say is not ready. Even after his dominating performance like the first yankee to have whatever six innings the no run six strike as they do since like nineteen. Twenty years and people are still after the game like. He's not ready as change. Needs to come along if he's not ready. Thin fucking twenty people. That i've seen pitch for the yankees. This year aren't ready because the guy dominated a line of andrew heaney couldn't even keep in the ballpark and i know the orioles aren't good. And if we were to go out there and face the astros or the red sox or the blue jays maybe he might get rocked. But he didn't face the orioles a team. That heating has been in the league for years now. Couldn't get out against. Keep them in the rotation vinny sent down after the game. I know it's like rostrum manipulation. I mean i hope he comes back. He doesn't come back off. That's crazy he's got to get a start against seattle. He has to. Yes who who will see you. Starting in you have confidence. In who else is deserving of a spot. The thing that i can't stand with the yankees is they've done. This for years is whether it seniority or money owed always takes precedence over performance like esteban. Floreal comes up. Guy is unbelievable for a stretch here after the all star break is him and greg alan singlehandedly. Carry the team to four wins and five games and they're like banks for all your production but we're gonna go with ryan lamar brett gardner up there rather than you like. There's nothing you can do to keep your spot i was. I was ready to see a tweet. That writings was getting set down the other day and they for the for the minor league shuttle in that nick nelson was going to be back up. Because that's sort of what this team does. It's all it's incredibly frustrating. And i'm with you on it that it's frustrating but if we're if we're worried about roster spots number twenty three through twenty six making or breaking this team then this teams in bigger trouble than they got to be. The top. Half of this roster. That's going to carry this team to the playoffs or not. Let's hear the the bottom of the roster is what it is. I think every team probably has these same sort of annoying things. Go on and we're just close to the yankees. And we hate aaron boone. So we so. We're frustrated with how. Brian cashman has maybe developed this roster. So we can. We can bitch about it a little bit more. But but i'm way more in the camp of aaron judge needs to be better in big spots. Dj the man who needs to turn around giancarlo stanton at least. He's playing the outfield. A little bit more now right like the. He played that he played the outfield on monday. Which gave judge a. d. h. day voice should be returning like what are we waiting for mean. It's going to get injured in the minors. At least let him get injured at yankee stadium like don't let him get injured in scranton. So call him up. D. h. input. Stay in the outfield. And let's just let's just go. Let's just see what happens. Yeah and i really the bottom. You know the last roster spot shouldn't matter twenty six roster by eight does because the manager puts these guys in situations they shouldn't be in so you might think to the last two guys in the bullpen. Don't matter but when you're in a fucking tenth in game against the phillies or the red sox and there's a guy in second with no outs those are the guys that he's using the pitch because everyone needs their time off. Even when every game is a muslim game right now has been i mean. I'll i'll retract that. Because i hate when people say now as if like april games didn't matter like they didn't have any impact on now but boone finds a way to use the bottom of the roster in big spots and so every spot on the roster matters because you could be the twenty six guy he'll find a high leverage fought for you. I mean was it We were joking through text message..

"But i know The broadcast was definitely talking about it but he has been throwing less changeups and fastballs last few games which is actually surprising for for him. He's normally fastball forcing fastball up curve balls and changeups down that's that's like of prototypical lefty change the plane type of thing but he's just and especially it the game His last start out his ton curve balls. So i don't know if it's up to fifty nine percent curve balls in his last three starts which is which is pretty good. I mean pretty high fifty nine. Actually that's fifty nine percent. Swing swing percentage on his curveball. Maybe why he's throwing curveballs because they're swinging at it. But he got big outs. Yes in yesterday's game on his curve ball when when when he needed in with runners on base went to curveball. Yeah i mean when you look when you look at the numbers. I think the only the only glaring thing to me. They're all relatively close. A lot of this could be just opportunistic and matchup based but the change is what he certainly has laid off then kind of sprinkled out The those changeups that difference in changeups from the first those three starts before I think we have numbers here. From july third to july sixteenth and then His last three start from july twenty second to august first. The change up is the is the big thing for me. Forty nine to six hundred sixty one times but again a lot of that could be matchup based as well and just what he was looking at from opposing team. So i actually don't think it's different. I think it's more about him. Executing the pitches and getting out of those for for montgomery it really does feel like if you can get out of the first couple of innings. Then then he starts just finding his group and he's got to be able to get to that point earlier they were talking about this last night of identifying. What is working on a given day sooner than than getting up and getting through those first couple innings with you know identifying what they could be trying to identify them either in the first inning or even in warm ups and no was coming out of your hand well and then really being able to build the game around that but The numbers don't look all that different. And you can sort of see the rotation materializing assuming garrett cole gets back to his self as garrick holds the ace. Tahu who seem seems to have turned a corner montgomery as like a middle road middle of the rotation guy you can rely on to give you a quality start and then if they get severino back or if they get kluber back whatever you get from them as gravy that that you can take into a playoff series. I'm not saying you're gonna feel great about it but you're gonna feel good enough about it. I mean i look. I think if we could get some guys healthy back on top of what's happening right now. Who knows what happens with with heaney again. That's kind of lightning in a bottle for me. He's got ability if he could if he could show. And that's something. He's one of these weird guys that's like his face of it. He looks terrible. He's got like a sixty day but then he's got these crazy swing and miss percentages so clearly the the yankees analytics department. I feel like loves this guy philly. This was like a target of theirs. I think so too for sure and all the same thing with clay homes. Klay homes is a guy that again this the weekend. He's very good. He looked very good. So if that's if he's able to come in and effectively get right headed bats out with consistency and he's able to just be nasty against righties. I love that so so so far so good but again small sample size here on the small sample size when it's not anthony. Rizzo if the result drool over. It doesn't matter how many games i single handedly won three games. I player in yankees history to reach base eight times in his first. Two games with the franchise..

"The marlins are obviously not a good team But they have not been able to finish sweeps on bad teams in the past so glad that there was finally a sunday that i didn't want to gouge is out from this team. Just absolutely shitting the bed and they came back against a good pitcher like they were. Shut down by good pitcher on sunday. They came back and they won the game late. All good stuff I guess our boy dickie bleier was at the At the center of a lot of those those late runs coming up over the weekend. You remember remember remember. Richard pryor dickey bleier remember. I remembered yet liar. the who monetary possess. I thought judge was gonna his ass to why why was judged so mad about that he there was clearly clearly. There was something that he didn't like probably not just from that bad but it was you think have when they were not really no not. I don't think it goes anywhere beyond this year was probably but there was just something there. There was. There was an energy that he didn't appreciate and i'm glad he spoke up. I love that wasn't just leadoff. Wasn't judge the leadoff hitter inning. Like he's not trying to judge. It doesn't matter. I want him to yell. I want him to get mad for no reason. It's fine. I want to seem to get mad for no reason. Herman's injury i guess came out of nowhere. He said he felt fine after the game. And then he's put on the iowa shoulder inflammation and a mug this. I mean who knows how long he might miss two starts and he's back might just be a precautionary thing and andrew. Heaney is gonna slot in too. So i mean i'm not bitter tonight. He's pitching tonight making his yankees debut. But i mean a couple that with the the minor injuries of gio and lemay who who didn't start over the weekend but they did play in the games because of various reasons Not not not ideal that her mom is now on the show because he's been pitching well too. I mean the guy. The guy's been in pitching very well obviously The last couple of starts have been extremely good But overall the yankees starting staff in the past month has been very good they lose in the worst one care coal property. Yeah aside from the complete game in houston. Gary has been pretty bad. Yeah he needs to show..

"I felt that before. He even got to this team he was. That was the kind of energy this guy put off. He's always having fun but he's locked in o'neill talking about him and his approach over the weekend that i thought was really interesting and how how much crowds the plate and can attack the outside the outside corner. His splits against lefties are better than his splits against righties. The guy has the ability to get to the The the pitch inside so quickly basketball so quickly that that now. He's able because of his hand speed and the bachelorette he's able to crowd the plate and cover the plate. He's a very difficult out when you're when you're looking at him from either side of the plate and that guy is just different from the people that we have in our lineup. Right now you put you. It's not just a lefty hitter. It's different hitter altogether absolutely and put him. You put him next to lemay. Hugh and judge like damn. That's three guys that that can really not only work account but get on base in different ways. And i love that for the top of the line up. Do you think that the moves of so the gallo move you could actually argue is the yankees doubling tripling quadrupling down on their philosophy of high on base percentage. Guys swing and miss guys. Who are gonna hit a lot of home runs but the rizzo move. Do you think that was just the yankees being opportunistic. Hey this guy is available. We can get them for a couple of prospects cubs or eating his salary a yet. Another kind of amazes me that the yankees got joey gallo in anthony rizzo and are not paying a dollar for them like. I almost don't believe how that even crazy. That was what i was saying on friday like. Give brian cashman credit for making these deals. In the way that i don't know how the market dictated if this was becoming like the the common deal across the league where people are just paying the contracts to get a better you're paying for prospects that's what the cubs in the rangers are doing. They're paying the yankees prospects in the nationals. I mean the nationals. They treated trade turner as well as user so and they got a haul back and the absolute hallback back so there was definitely capital being delivered on these trades on the on the in the minor league On the minor league side of things. My my question though is do you think the yankees with rosa was the them being opportunistic..

"It's how much is it really improved. But i feel like rizzo's lower strikeout rate another power left handed bat that you can stick between eight and he led off between the one in the five spots in. The lineup is a huge dynamic shift for this lineup and just on paper. I know the games are plutonium pooper. If the if the ak yankees are on paper chase the yankees would be ten games up in the deficient right now. I mean their off-season champs for years running the yankees are so i understand. They're not they're not played or one on paper but just like optically looking at the lineup. It's so much more balanced. There's so much of a harder way for opposing pitchers to just attack the lineup. And it's frustrating frustrating thing with this with this team in the first half and maybe even in previous years they could only really win one way and when that didn't happen you knew they had basically no chance and that was just so frustrating to watch from afar from from sitting on our couches. Watching you agree. It's just like okay. They didn't hit three home runs tonight. So they're likely not going to manufacture a run or get a big hit in the eighth inning opposite field from rizzo is just like those sorts of things didn't happen on the team in the first half of the season and i didn't expect them to happen at least now some new blood in there some fresh meat in there. Some different things are happening. And i like that. Yeah i mean you mentioned you touch on rizzo's ability to put out on ball by you know by mentioning the the low strike fifteen percents strikeout rate which aleve is eleven percent less than the yankees team average which is which is unbelievable and the guy the guy can. He controls the bat well. He's again a gold glove defender from last year and looking at the numbers and short time when he was on that two thousand sixteen world series team. I mean the guy. Just performed in the clutches. Well he didn't strike out very often in the nfl. Or the world series. When when i see that guy. I see someone that i just have a tone of confidence in in big moments and not just because he showed it to me this weekend..

"So far has nineteen and i could see debbie garcia if they truly punt on the season like less call debbie garcia. He get ten. Starts you get nine more starts and kluber can never come back. You might never pitch again. I'm not ruling this out. I mean you have on an kluber. So it's it's gone could tie on his nineteenth starts okay credit ability again. It was a kickoff credit and then the last one is super specific. And it's i guess. It's still possible. And i guess it's still possible. Yup saturday september eighteenth is going to be brett gardner appreciation day Saturday and saturday october. Second is going to be john sterling appreciation day sterling. I don't think so has rebounded. I think he is not happy about. This is like a mary auto or jeeter dot leaving on an injury. He is not going out like this calling from a tv screen. Be in the goddamn stadium. He's going to be waving to people not happening. But i don't think dope here's where you're wrong. There's gonna be no appreciation. People love record. I had someone tweet me ask just young monument. I had someone ask if brett gardner is going to get a fucking monument. Who has monuments received ruth lou. Gehrig joe maggio mickey mantle. Those players have monuments and someone asked me if brett car dealer is going to get a monument. Last week would look good. He would look good on monument alien head not exactly all right so we're gonna bergener take an l. for all verbal predictions. This time it will never bring them up again. This season unless aaron judge wins the mvp. Then something good happen so we do have a couple mailbag questions. The first one My guy brian fischler emailed me he He's a great guy. He's been on the podcast. I think once or twice and he does the laugh for site. he's He's a he's a comedian. He's also blind and he's got a charity for for to raise money for blind awareness. And it's a laugher said. I went Three years in a row. It's it's really an awesome time. But he is just fed up with the yankees says. I absolutely despise the entire twenty twenty one yankees team same here. It's absolutely unimaginable to me. That i could hate a yankees team this much. See the only way of fixing things is to not make the playoffs. Get rid of boone. He says the tone for the dead bunch. The entire philosophy of the organization needs to change. I do not think. Steinbrenner will fire cashman. But i think it needs to be done as the entire system needs a reset. You think the entire yankee system is broken. I have no doubt. The yankee system will f- up the martian. Look what they have done to. Every other player torres sanchez and do our other young players. That seem to have gotten worse over the past few years. He says go sox seriously. I don't mean that. But i think it's the only way to fix things kind of what we said in the first half of this episode. Is that just blowing up. Yeah start with the manager and see what you could do at least give us Some semblance of a season to refer the. Yeah it's not not not a majority of yankees fans feel the way. Brian feels in the way you have expressed you feel and how we feel or that. 'cause i still see so many fans on twitter and twitter's assessable but i see so many people still trusting the process and it baffles me. No there's no process to trust at this point. He's just gotta make a change man. I'll tell you what watching looking and seeing these Following some of the reporters are down there watching dominguez. All the time kid is lighted up already. You know in the in the in tampa where he is right. Now i will. You can't you can't not nothing's gonna happen this year. But i'm saying i'm saying he's an exciting player. He's living up to the bill. So far in the first org i Real ball that he's that he's played in like the kid. Looks like a a man amongst boys. I would not be surprised if the when you see a kid like that. Like a lot of times in in baseball the players also physically mature to get to a point where they can play these next levels right over the past two years. He's so far beyond the the his is physical ability that you should be at that at that age that there's no reason if he continues to just keep up them up and see what happens. There precedent for come up in thirteen twenty sewed bryce harper. These players were nineteen years old when they were playing well in the major leagues. So i think jason dominguez is what eighteen years old this year. Because i think he's seventeen. I think he's still seventeen. he's either seventeen or eighteen. He still think he. I think eighteen if he if he's eighteen just turned eighteen. Recently i believe either way seventeen or eighteen years there is eighteen. He turns his birthday february. He just turned eighteen this past february. Yeah so next spring training he will be nineteen years old. He should get a major league invite to spring training which will and then who knows maybe second half of the year he can if he rakes in aaa cole. No yeah i mean he may not even go to aaa aaa. You might go like to go. Those step-by-step well then then blitz. Let's hope that some Changes in the organization is overhauled..

"If he's not good then you get him out of the game. Nobody says he has to keep pitching what he's bad. Do better get him out of the game. Try next time now. i just can't get past. I can't get past that move the fact that it's a third time in the past two weeks that lifted a leaving a guy in too long a clear obvious chance to put a put a stop on an and he just doesn't do it just sits there with a stomach is ass and watches the game. What what do you think. Because this is now. His fourth season managing. How is he not improved. Move hold on not being sarcastic. It's just like enough. Gotten better at his job. He doesn't have the instincts or he's he's not using what he sees in front of him and he's relied too heavy. So there's no improving or not improving that you either are listening to what a book says or you taught the instincts and the i the ability to look at something and make an adjustment. Okay but don't that's not going to get better at that you just be adult. Can you play the piano. Why massive fucking piano. You asked me if i could play. I sat down today. Would you know how to play it. Of course not no but if you took leslie chopsticks if you took lessons for the next four years you think you'd be not you know how to play a little bit you. Could you play a song if you took lessons for the next four years. Yeah okay. Chad memorized aaron. Boone sat down in a pano in two thousand eighteen in to play and he sold off the where allergies this driving. Is the driver at the five hundred or zero fucking musician trying to play games. Do open heart surgery or your doctor. You our surgery. No i would never attempt scott. I don't okay. I'm gonna say something that might be controversial. I don't care about this team anymore. I don't care what this twenty twenty one yankees team does. I don't like them. They're not fun to watch. They're not good chasers that but that's but that's the mentality of a lot of people right now so you know what changes that something is different. Change the voice that will change that that will immediately change that and then we guess what we have to look forward to and makes a difference. This guy has is. It'd be nice bit different. "When do they play oakland again. Do toronto is five games. Cleveland is six and the anaheim angels are seven and a half. So i've got to got a new baseball begun to name the name of the wildcard. I call that six six teams vying for that spot that are within two and a half games of the yankees who are four and a half games out from. They play the as august. Twenty six four game series. That's next i in in oakland or here think in oakland in oakland already played oklahoma four games in oakland. I mean the west coast thing doesn't matter anymore the sport for you mean. There's always a west coast thing with the yankees. They go to the west coast. Just since i was a kid. So so the problem with the yankees team and no problem it or the problem is i think they're going to hang around just barely enough for them to not call it a season so they don't think they're gonna make the place at this point. This was the most important stretch of the of the season. And i know they technically one last week getting the red sox they won two out of three and then they won both games against philli but the manner in which and also you. This is supposed to me off. You got to get rid of the manager. Because he's actually holding you back without the manager. The team is better right now. If you go to choir someone the managers gonna fuck it up. Change the manager. You have to change the manager to make this team better. You want you want to know what i wanted. The all star break earthy also break at the trade deadline. Learn a new guy manager. Can you actually manager. I don't just give of him. It's fine it's addition by subtraction. Here in and give somebody who actually knows that the game of baseball. Forget the knicks at this point. They gotta see what's in front of them. They got to see what's in front of them and make decisions based. What is currently happening. That i need a guy who knows baseball. Who's done this before. Who i don't care how old he is. I don't care who he is. A guy is listening to nerds. It's got to be a guy who actually understands baseball in situations so that they can actually manage this team because the talent on this team it is there. It is there and boone as the guys in far too many times in the past three weeks that have blown just like absolutely gut wrenching losses. Give me a new manager who actually manage a frigging baseball game. Scott you say. The talent is there and i semi agree with you but even had the yankees won today and split the series..

"He's getting on base and he's hitting to a high batting average which which again if you don't believe in batting average fine but it's still a tell so tells you things are going well whether you're lucky or not lucky. It's still thinks so. Things are going in the trending in the right direction. And this guy's doing a lot of different things on the on the team not to mention. He's a he's a clubhouse guy and this consistently in the huddle so i i'm. I'm definitely coming around on on rubio door and liking liking what i see that solidified it for me. What is your net. And i'm pretty sure he did. Don his own o.'neil and conan. Those guys were talking about that. And i agree. I think he did did make that decision on his own to last night. Yeah buns not brave enough to go against the nerds and call for bunch. What what is gonna bunt is called boo. You just called boone. Bunt which santa. They're they're one in the same bunt but as idiot. What is your gut telling you that the yankees are going to do with the deadline. Are they going to acquire somebody. But it's going to be like okay fine. They acquired a warm body to fill a position. Are they gonna acquire someone like trevor story. That really gets a name. That gets hyped decades hype going that could be. He could be on this team for a long time. If you work out a contract with them or they just gonna do jack shit what. I don't understand it the reports that i've seen Saw on trade rumors and only he's been talking about this Fun little factor. My brother who lives in denver went through the Disaster inside knowledge. What yeah went to the bus. Only tim kirkman book signing there. Were one of three people there for a while. And i was talking about only half an hour i was like. That's why were other people not there. Then that was kept going back to but seemingly very nice guy and and they had some good conversation. But yeah talking about trevor story being a guy that the yankees are are certainly acts like truly interested in and there are conversations that have had but the rumors of of trevor story playing center field. Why where's that coming from just because the yankees center fielder and it fits a narrative. I think that's exactly why people are. There's reports out there On in publications that are saying that because he doesn't play centerfield he's not a center. Fielder hasn't played center field baseball reference. And all i see shortstop and d. h. on this on this On the standard feeling chart that looks like an excel spreadsheet that. I'm very surprised. I found transition. No he's actually a good shortstop to transition from shortstop to centerfield like that like it's not something that you just do. That's very much correlates immediately. No no but also if you're moving someone. I don't think you're moving trevor. Story you're moving gleyber torres position because gleyber torres is not a great shortstop. Trevor story is a great shortstop. Doesn't help your.

"yankees." Discussed on The Bronx Pinstripes Show - Yankees MLB Podcast

"I wanna talk about two guys. Who had good series and two guys who are going to be crucially important if the yankees are gonna make this year gleyber torres. I would say i think i said this on our show before the For the second. The other guy. Jason tom i i want to talk about gleyber torres. Do you think labor torres is the most important offensive player to the yankees success in the second half meaning him. Having a good second half could make or break. The team offensively. I mean assuming the other the other situations are going the way they're supposed to. It's hard to say one is more important than the other. But if aaron judge would have off the plane at the no no okay. But i'm not. I'm saying if one guy needs turn it around if they need gleyber torres back to almost what he wasn't eighteen and nineteen i think if the team's going to have success in the second half the remainder teams to continue to do what they're doing and gleyber torres these get his ass back on track for sure there's about because he could make an absolute impact on this team. That's it in a very small small sample size. But yes he hit two homers. This weekend he had some good at bats. Walk three times all good stuff So i i. I don't know what else we can take away from the weekend other than it was a good weekend for him like we've seen him have good series before and then fall into a black hole so i hope he doesn't do that again. We'll see that's all. I'm saying is i think he is. I think he's he's a he's like he's he's the x factor. Listened to you. Love her. you're listening to this podcast for a long time. You know my history x. factors gleyber torres is extremely important piece of this of this team because of his offense of proud that we saw eighteen. Nineteen word prowess makes me. It feels like it's just really like you're you're doing really well in something to the ability. It's such a great word but the we've seen where he can be and and when he when he's the type of player that he was eighteen nineteen even take back down ten percent twenty five percent. And you're still looking at a very guys that eighty percent. I said. eighty percent if eighty percent of that. That's fine too. The the the bottom line is is the guy's got to get back on track with his with his mechanics. Saying this all your. And i even tweeted it out a couple of days ago before the series started or right before that first home run was like they talking about his mechanical problems. Which is something that. I've been touting for a while here. We looked at the numbers last time. And you're seeing some of them. You can see the mechanical problems in the numbers. You can just see them in the way that in the way that he swings launch launch angle has launch angle with was drastically. Different in to me. When you're looking at launch angle or no launch angle in the way that you teach something if you're trying to do the same thing and the angle of your swing is different than probably a problem. Just trying to do what you're doing not to mention that just duchess to me equates to mechanical problems all around because it's out of certain it at a different plane because of multiple things and we're starting to see him. This week is getting his. Get his foot down. They've been talking about that a lot. That was a big piece for gary sanchez. Getting that foot down early being able to hit being ready to hit before the ball is getting there and not playing from behind. He was doing on that first game on friday night. Hugh looked terrible. He was sobbing. He was no has no individual at that. He looked bad he was he was just like the risk for breaking early he was he was. There was nothing from his lower body even connecting with the top of his body and his way and they made a quick switch. I guess after. I saw my tweet and realize that they're being lazy for two years and then they He started hitting the ball and the ball started. Going out of the ballpark. Wow amazing hit line drives and guess what happens you see home runs. That's what i need him to get back to at eight thirty three pm on saturday night. You tweeted labor's power struggles in twenty and twenty one or mechanical w t.f. The yankees coach has been doing for two years so that was what like twenty minutes before his home. Run for thankfully. I mean this is the this is finally the the tipping point. I've been talking about this for weeks and weeks about. Can we just simplify his mechanics. Please get him back to basics. Get him back to being. Ready and hitting line drives seaman. All say need. That's what he needs. We've seen small bursts of that. I think the white sox series when the yankees swept the white socks glacier had a bunch of hits in that series and he just looked calmer at the plate not the bat waco was lower leg kick was lower. Everything just seems simpler but then fell back into the abyss. So so that's the thing. Like i worry he's not a he's a player that can take spiral said this million times can spiral if he spirals it gets really bad for him. Well guess what. The two coaches need to be there to contain that spiral confidence in coaching staff..

"Yankees. Somehow play better than that. We're really good on paper. We win the off season every year in a row for years running yankees an actual series. Win against the red sox. That hadn't happened to him. One game against the red sox also all season. Almost a series win mean. Is this series win. The when the first game is played later on yes that other game. the doesn't retroactively. Come back to this for game series. That'll be tacked onto the series writer so this was a three game series and they into the three outstanding three in a row. Three series wins of substance that. I'm nothing bad happened otherwise losses. This is exactly what i'm talking about. This is exactly what's what's What's going to get me back in the game here is when remember what i said gonna see. You wanna see some sustained winning. I wanna see something bad happen. And then i want to see them bounce back from that and that's exactly what's happened so far short series. I understand that we have. We have a two-game set coming up with the phillies and then an important three-game set with the temporaries however adversity has shown its face in many ways over the past week in the in the form of a meltdown in decimation a meltdown in in houston and then also a roster decimation as you say due to the vid virus and injured but but what happens. The replacements are playing baseball like good baseball fun baseball. So it's cool to the excited that the yankees won two out of three. I'm excited to visit. Potentially it's prolonging their season. But can we take anything away. These are not the players that are going to be on. The these are players. Greg allen tim lou castro your greg greg. Allen has a chance to stick greg greg. How's guy on guy. He's a red sock killer. He's a guy that obviously Fits the makeup of this team. He's exactly the opposite of everybody else. Which is perfect. Exactly what. I wanna see when a guy who can run the basis make a lot of contact and just do his damn thing and let the other guys do do their thing and that's totally forgot. They had like he's he's been off and on. He got hurt early on because he was supposed to come up early days when the mark came up but he had just been put on the i l. for something unfortunate so he's had some bad luck i think with a little with being nicked up a little bit in the early in the season. Didn't he missed his opportunity. But you know something that a rod said last night and one of the only time. I'll agree with with with with alex. I thought you know what i thought. He was good. Last night he was bad he was very bad. In most cases there were a couple little things that he said that to get into it. Just admit it. It's like a western his old western. It's of which. Are you know. I i had for listen to senate. I haven't watched sunday night baseball. It's pretty much all season. I think because. I think the first time the yankees were on sunday night baseball. I listened to the game so this is the first time i really have listened to an era broadcast this year and i kind of enjoyed myself. Maybe it's because the yankees are winning. I don't yeah and you miss you. Miss the fact that it was just comical. Probably because i fully got that part. So but what he did say was you know they were. They were talking about joey. Gallo as a as a potential traitor guy that would fit this team. Beautifully and a-rod adamantly said no disagree he actually is exactly the opposite of what this team needs. I want on this team. And i think what this goes back to is a little bit of the old school baseball mentality and era is is that type of guy. He's been around the game for a long time but he understands baseball to to the core of its off when i when i conveniently think he understands baseball. But in this particular instance he's looking for is that are complementary to the other playable guys accomplish mobile complimentary baseball. That's that's all we're asking for here. We're not talking about another guy who goes up there and swing for the fences. Every single time consistent. Oh much re baseball. And that's what we got last night at this point. I'll take joey gallo because the alternative right. Now is an outfield of lamar. Alan and brett gardner. Now a couple of the guys like you talked about making contact running the basis. They stole still two bases last night. And i'm pretty sure he's got He's up there in the league leaders in scranton as well. I saw a tweet from the yankees. We've talked about this season. It's been talked about everywhere. The yankees are the slowest team in baseball. They don't take extra bases. They're not athletic. It's just station to station and then double play balls happened. And if they don't hit the three run home run they don't win. That's been the first half for them. So last night we saw guys running making contact. There was some bunce. Chaumont head. Dr him okay. Hit in home runs. But you can't have a full lineup of bootlegged yankees playing small ball. You need a couple of guys. Hit the ball on the park. So if you add. Joey gallo to the small ball. I think it might be okay. I think we might have something here. Of course are judge is gonna come back. Jewish l. is gonna come back so the lineup next weekend against the red sox could look far different. I mean that lineup. They put out last night on paper. Lemay state and sanchez torres. Fine cool getting's amburgey. Who's out now a gut. This poor guy finally gets called up plays. A game is crashes into the wall. Acl adore lamar. Who aco it wasn't Knows it was castro. He he caught up all in left field and stayed in the game and then he mixed up. Amburgey crashed into the wall. Later in the game. Right amburgey pulled up with a hamstring or something. There is family. Castro's off this okay. So i i totally got mixed up. Because because of because they're all say guys because who are these guys okay. We'll ever been around for a while. Give him show some throw some. There's some love to his name. He's been a minor leager for awhile. Hemming gittens are the guys that have actually been you know in the geeky system for quite some time and have earned their way up. You're not that the other guys have earned away by any means but they do. I better the game. It was lamar that crashed into the into the corner right correct. And he's the acl. Wrong let me let me go. Let me go. Through the the bootleg yankee outfielder for you to castro we got we got via trade the diamondbacks another another little sneaky. Move by brian cashman catches the ball in left field. Crashes against the wall catches the ball stays in the game and Is is then pulled later in the game because of the acl turns out. Acl's done he's done for the year. That's unfortunate. that's the first guy trae. Every trae amburgey was was. I believe a hamstring or something like that. Just not feeling right out of the game. Lamar crashed into right crash into right field in the state negates. The outfield state in the game. Booming out there. Lamar said i'm saying in the game. There's no fm coming out in this game if you remember no more hours. We'll know if you remember his first time up earlier in the season he he did something that knocked him out after that first game like immediately so he didn't get the opportunity. He referenced that in the post game was like. I'm not leaving. I'm not leaving this game. of course i'm not leaving. This game stayed in. The game ended up stealing a base later. He's he's all good. So but down to outfielders down the castro and down amburgey at at this point and now we have lamar gardner allen.

"Fan like tune into what's happening but i mean i sort of grown up. I sort of stopped playing baseball like watching as much. But i'd say i wonder casual fan so in that sort of knows what's going on enough that they could talk about like stats and players and stuff like that. I feel like if you can talk specifics. You're more than a casual fan. If you talk specific that's why that's why i said standings and like if they're winning or losing where you're definitely going to a game for more of a social thing or or so. You can post it on your instagram story. Or you know you're going to the chicken bucket or yeah well no because if you know if you know the food at yankee stadium now now we might be talking as a different level. My wife leeann knows about the chicken bucket jr. okay okay. food hold on. I gotta tell you the story. So dern corey kluber is no hitter as the eighth inning or something and leeann comes to the room like the yankees pitching no hitter tonight. And she's like what does that mean that means the team doesn't have any hits and she was like so. The yankees pitchers only thrown strikes. A mike know that means he hasn't given up hit. She's like buddies. Probably throwing a lot of strikes right. Well yeah and i got it down to the dumbest possible level that i almost second guess myself i was like she was. She technically what she said. I was thinking how is it a positive of normally high of strikes. How's it possible. You've you've known me for six years you've consumed so much secondhand baseball yet. No little it's like. She has i if you like you acquitted secondhand smoking. She's secondhand chain smoking baseball at this point and she still knows nothing about the sport. It's it's amazing for sport it if you're not paying attention to it if it's just on you you have no idea what's happened is you don't know what's happening. It's like another language. But i know more about the bachelor. Then she knows about baseball. I was just going to compare that. I was just going to make this comparison and i don't watch the bachelor okay. Okay i'll go next so so bevan's for the first date that bevin and i ever went on the first first date she it was We knew each other through like Like rex sports stuff like kickball volleyball. Things you play after college and you're just trying to be social. I knew her through that. So i new shoes athletic. I date was like a joke thing. We went and we hit ground balls to each other. You've told me this story and it's funny every time. Magin that bob date. What are you gonna do bring your gear. I wasn't really dating. Hey no i was like all goes. She played softball and college. So we went and she laid out for a ball but then rate their she dove for. God yeah what. This is ridiculous. And that's the moment you know. That was literally the moment. I knew it was like this has the now we're done here but seven have more to me. She duped me athletic. She played sports. She played she's good at softball doesn't she knows the game. She knows the game cousin watching goddamn second of it doesn't watch a second of it as wait a minute. So we're not watching. You're not gonna watch any of this. You're not gonna pay attention to any of this like the to. She knows the news. You know so. The people are she. She knows game. She knows the sport like she could talk about it. See that's important knowing if you know the game if you played softball replacements to be a yankee fan. I'd like i want her to be a yankee fan. So that we can just go said it'd be much easier for for for my household to have a kid grow up in it watching the yankees all the time. Even though i'm going to chain him down to the couch. And watch the yankee games but it would be easier but if you said to bevan the yankees are pitching a no hitter. She wouldn't come back with so they've throw it a lot of strikes.

"Do i think that's how were you not expecting this. Of course this is going to be my first question. I mean i'll have to go with i. I like scotts. I do like scotts. Outside of the broad nick nelson. I like the optimism with judge. One hundred forty games fifty home runs. Mvp above that. Clint frazier big. Fan of clint frazier. I'm just swag got swag. I'd love to see him. Have a good season and german. I saw that one resonating in the in in bob. Turns is when i was saying to to win this question jer. Montgomery i'm optimistic for him as well. I'd love to see him. Have a really good season and yankees going. Seventeen in two orioles. I expect that. I don't know how bold it is because i think they should go seventeen into against the orioles orioles. Just go nineteen zero sugar. They should they should exactly what happened two years ago. Yeah i do. I do like scott set of right all right well. We also got some listener. Submissions to at inc podcast. Twitter wants to go through some of the good ones not the not the bad ones the ones that you deem to be bold enough to read on the podcast top for scott. React to the fight. Get into the top three. I'm going to say my one bold prediction. Which of course. I i think gary sanchez is gonna be the home. Run leader i. I'm i'm really pulling for gary comeback season. I'm i'm all over the the gary comeback train. I think he's gonna hit thirty eight home runs. I'm i am taking into account the fact that i don't think judge stanton gonna go this season without him. The i l. for a significant amount of time Obviously i don't hope that happens. I hope judge hits fifty home runs. I hope.

"Home. Run guy and let me tell you why last year when you look back at his numbers and i will use two thousand twenty as part of my argument here because it does help my case and also it was a a transition year for him. It was a development. So i feel like that's part of you could use if it's a short series and it's a guy whose developing like taking that next up you kind of have to look at it a little bit more. I guess for trends but not necessarily total impact. But when i'm looking at what he did last year and I was surprised by his on. Base percentage was was one that that really got me. And i'm really struggling to pull this frigging move to go. See richard rodriguez. Thank you very much Here we go the twenty twenty season. His on base percentage three ninety four. You're you're looking at a a guy who has drastically improved. I think the approach at the plate. We saw him going the other way a lot more. I mean you're you're talking about a guy who has an on. Base percentage very close to aaron hicks is doing clip. Frazier's a just you see the amount of walks he had. You could tell that. His his approach at the plate was very much different. It was tweaked in a way where he was not looking to pull the ball all the time. I don't know how many how many in two thousand eighteen when he came or nineteen when he came up and we saw glimpses of him. How many foul balls look like. They were gonna kill back kid because he's trying to pull a ball. That's you know. That was his approach the entire time that lightning quick bats that that's all we saw was the ball and foul. He's he's more patient. He's more mature. He's taking a better approach. The plate and i think he's going to because of that he's gonna see the ball fly over the wall a lot more and it's not just going to be the left field we're gonna see centerfield. We're gonna see right field. He's really taking that judge approach where he's going to spray the ball. I think lemay who's been good Influence on him. So i got. I got clint frazier. Thirty home runs. I think that is going to be a direct correlation of his plate discipline and the the pictures that he's swinging at because of his walk percentage i think is going to continue to increase and looking back at his on base percentage. I was really impressed. I didn't realize as high as it was too. That's very impressive. Especially because he had to sixty seven batting average should have a three ninety four. Ob is very impressive. I don't know if that sustainable for him because he's more of an aggressive type hitter but if he can be three sixty i mean. that's fantastic. Give i put the over under three sixty this year. Are you taking the over the under on that. I'm taking over. Because i think he's just a more disciplined player in general. I think he's he's really owning that zone. He understands where his strengths are and where his week. This is our. I think at this point or at least he's very much learning that and i think an owning it and not trying to be that Overly aggressive like you said overly cocky guy that has all the confidence in the world that he can do things but understanding that there are situations where he has to play to his strengths. More and not let the pitcher dictate what's going to happen. I think that was happening a little too much early on and again it's just i think maturity and discipline is a big piece of this and it's just a player coming into his own. I also made a clint frazier. Predictably dial and i could tell by the look on his face. I also made a clint frazier prediction. And it's not that different from yours. So i feel kind of kind of annoyed with you. i said. Clint frazier will lead the yankees in games played with one hundred and fifty five and he will hit twenty five home runs. That was my prediction. the reason name was twenty. Five home runs. You know what's that. Dj lemay who. It's twenty five home runs. The reason i said he will lead the yankees in games played is because i think there's going to be injuries to aaron hicks and to aaron judge so even if brett gardner is playing over one hundred games which will probably happy and clint frazier will still get significant playing time. And he's the youngest guy in the outfield and he's the healthiest guy in the outfield. Knock on wood. I don't know about thirty home runs. I think he's he's still probably more of a line drive hitter and if the ball is truly a little bit deduced we might not see thirty. Plus but really. What's the difference between twenty five and thirty over the course of one hundred sixty two games are in this case. One hundred fifty five game by. Thanks but it really. That's not that different for for for production. It's five home runs over. The course of six months to psychological barrier thirty home runs as much better than twenty five home runs. I guess so but at the same time thirty home runs was kind of desensitized to thirty home. Runs so i think if he hits twenty five or thirty home runs but the rest of the league is also mashing home runs because the ball still juice not that impressive but if the home run leaders on the yankees are forty four giancarlo stanton and he hits twenty five or thirty home runs. That's that's much more impressive type of type season from him. So i mean. I think we're a prediction from us. Well a it is different in the sense that i'm very surprised that you think he's going to lead the team in games played because of the way the outfielder so muddied up right now with the amount of guys that are out there. I understand. you're basing that on injury which is sick too sick sick pessimistic way to approach that but the fact that the fact that is out there the fact that mike talk men's on the roster jay. Bruce can play right field if needed. Stanton complain the outfield. There's a lot of guys that can play out there. So i'm just having any outfielder as the guy leading that charge to me is a is is is interesting and coming from you more interested in. It's more even more interesting. I i look at a guy like digital may as a no-brainer to to lead the team in games played because he can play multiple positions. He could play first base understanding jay. Bruce is there now no novoye. He could slide over to third base. He can play multiple positions and he's just like every day he's that guy that can go out there so dj limit. He was my second choice for leading games play. But that's not that bold. These are bold prediction. Scott are predictions there. It's a little like okay. okay. I think it's a little but do you think about that. One did you think would. Would you think that carry any weight. I didn't i mean. I think it's fair to take into account the injuries i think i think i think it's fair and i always have numbers for my predictions. Okay i'm i'm either putting a name to my prediction or a number two my prediction. I'm not predicting that. Nick nelson is going to take a step forward this year. I'm sorry but when you're talking about the bullpen..

Nick nelson Scott richard rodriguez brett gardner Clint frazier Stanton Bruce thirty last year twenty five thirty home six months Frazier Dj lemay giancarlo stanton aaron Thirty home runs twenty five home runs nineteen second choice

"Has made the roster. I mean everybody that was going to happen as much as people didn't want that to happen. Everybody knew that was going to happen. Because but i will. There has been some We got a real five back over here now holder who also play shortstop who's known for his glove former believers a first round. Pick back in like he was. He was one of those. Those early picks that the yankees made on the infield that that had gloves but never really panned out on the offensive side which is exactly what they have. Three guys Ceo culverts another one. Who did that. It was over holder and weighed all three. All three guys could play defense. Offense was never there. And i think that's that's where you if you look back at the way that they've drafted shortstops. You see a pattern there but a guy that can that can play the field well and you know maybe he can handle the bat a little bit better than wade. It could be an option down the road For those guys commando though again it would have to be. I think it's a situation where you know. The time just runs up on tyler wade and there's a guy that does similar things in and that's what happened so who knows. It's kind of a long shot but yeah it was interesting. It was of note for sure. Yeah and dietrich. All accepted his option. Down to Alternate site and also robinson street us. They resigned him and he'll be added to the alternate site as he's rehabbing and his initially was a six week timetable so that kind of puts him sometime in late. April i believe and they just needed needed the catching depth as insurance. I think so. We thought torino's was never not going to be an option anymore because of the issue but turns out. We might see him at some point this year. And it's a good thing to have a major league catcher back there. I mean he probably just didn't want to understand rehab And get everything back right and play again. But so that's why he accepted that or the option. And he's he he he understands that this first month or two or go to be crucial for the yankees and the catching position. So having that that major league veteran catcher sitting in aaa is a good thing for us for sure. Yeah because if if it does come situation where. Gary sanchez loses his job. I don't know how he's going to be as backup catcher. They might need to figure something else there. Well that's the other thing just having death in the backup catching position. I mean who knows anything could happen with hickey. As well having a guy like that does provide good depth and and they were very thin without. I mean there are still very thin until he's healthy but it's a good option to have anything else from spring training final thoughts before we move onto bold predictions and finally get to the regular season feels like spring training. Took six years the the pictures of the guys flying back over new york at night seeing the lights and i think geo posted on his instagram. It's it's just a it's just one of those check marks. You know what i'm saying like it's cool to see that it's called the city lights with these guys flying over you know with the With them coming back to the bronx. It's a longtime common so glad glad that that that is happening. And that we'll we'll see some fans in the stands. Tomorrow's gonna be a fun day garrett cole. First time. he's pitching in front of yankees fans first time. It's going to be great. I guess return real real for real so he can as he as he said. The other ones were dry humps. It's great quarter. That's a lot of dry helping the Can we confirm if there were pods on that plane. We got that tweet from someone like they tweeted a picture of of the of the giant plane. It's like come on. Can we get twenty six pods for these guys. It's it's a three and a half hour flight. North just customize betcha gives some get some get some pods in there. Let's let's learn from our mistakes. I'll never forget picture. You've giants on your. You have literally a number of them now. there's more share from. I believe it was the two thousand nineteen season of aroldis chapman sleeping on the plane and he had his feet like crammed up against the seat in front of him. Like all the chapin. The dude six five whatever unlike. How is this a professional baseball team. That's how soft tissue hamstring injuries by being cramped up on a plane for four five three hours. Whatever it is getting up trying to walk it off and just doing something a little different walking down those stairs crisp you know Two am air. It's it's it's a. It's an opportunity for soft tissue injury waiting to happen every single time. I hate it. You've heard us talking about it.

Gary sanchez new york garrett cole six years tyler wade April three and a half hour Three guys five this year six week two first round twenty six pods Tomorrow one first time three guys Ceo first month

"Were really excited about launching. This is our intro show. So in the show. We're gonna introduce ourselves sort of who we are. How we got involved with the site. Were both huge yankee fans as. I'm sure everyone listening is so just sorta talk about what what we do what we wanna do at the show and take it from there so scott you started the website bronx pinstripes dot com about four years ago. joins us talk a little bit. About how you started that and why you started that. Yeah for sure. So i'm first of all. I'm glad we could finally do this. We've been talking about it for a while and getting the podcast off the show off the ground so He's going to be fun. Talking yankee baseball pretty much all year as far as the the website itself i i started the site where we say four years ago when when it was actually ny universe right If you were actually the first person to come on and right so you're You're employee number two. If you will do anything for that. I get like yeah. I'll give you a high five next time. We go to a game options or anything like that. I'll buy you a beer. I will buy you a beer. The next game all right. I'll take to celebrate that but yeah so we started out as a universe and then i got a very nice polite letter from a major league baseball in the new york yankees saying that they didn't like our name that it was a little too close to a couple of their Their their trademark. So we changed it to bronx pinstripes and I think for the better. I mean bronx. Pinstripes is a kinda fell in love with the with the name and the website has really progressed. Since i mean started originally was for when i was away because i left the new york area to school and it was a way for me to really keep up with the team Not being around the local media and just just you know an another opportunity for me to keep up with the team as much as possible. I mean an absolute szeswith yankees love yankee baseball. I grew up in North jersey and Bergen county about twenty twenty five minutes from the stadium. So i used to go to games. Thomas kid and yeah just Ever since ever. Since i was a child man been been completely Entrenched into yankees. I think we share that I grew up in rhode island and actually right now. I live in boston. And i know you know that but So you can imagine how difficult that is Being such a diehard yankee fan living in boston with all those mass whole red sox fans who sort of gimme shit. All the time in the last year wasn't bad because they sucked but the year before when they that world series was just brutal. But i sort of started after college. I was As i'm sure most people are just bored at work i wanted to talk about baseball rather than excel spreadsheets and stuff. So i started a tumbler in a twitter account. I think goes like may actually spring training twenty eleven and i saw your site and i saw you were looking for writers. I just shot you an email and sort of just evolved from there and it's funny. You mentioned the new york yankees university forgot. We were once called that yup and moons ago. Yeah many terrible graphics home. God but i think like you said it's good now. Bronx pinstripes dot com. it's more. It sounds more like a fan driven thing which we are rather than an actual affiliate affiliated site but the mlb sticklers for their for their property. yeah i mean absolutely they they They definitely protect it with everything and you know. That's that's their right to do that. So we we just tried to Minor ps and qs. And and do everything the right way as much as we possibly can. So yeah we definitely respect the fact that they have their trademarks and and that they owned us. You know we move forward as best we can. I think we've Bronx pinstripes evolved from that. And i think it's actually Yeah like you said man. It's a really good thing. I think the name suits us a lot better. Yes and so again. Just what we're gonna do here in this episode Get into what what we're going to do with the show. It's going to be a weekly show Different topics each week. Talk about what happened. You know how the yankees did over that last week breakdown. Some prospects breakdown you know some managerial decisions. I'm sure girardi will do. Some stupid shit will will get on them for and take it from there. So another thing we're going to do. We're going to have guests come on. you know. we have a bunch of writers on the site. It's not just the two of us and we all have different personalities So we want to get those guys on and talk about their opinions about the team in about baseball and You know everyone doesn't different. You know You know one of our guys rich on site. He's a huge fan. So i'm i'm sure that'll be fun when we have him on. ryan's a really big in a fantasy baseball and he watches every game. I think he watches every major league game. If that's possible. So he's unreal Brian he likes to talk about some of the historic stuff Current stuff so it should be really fun show. We got going on here. Yeah definitely. I'm really excited to bring a lot of those guys onto and like you said everybody brings their own little element to to the yankees and to the phantom if you will and And to the show for sure We have some guys that only people from the site that we're going to bring on but we're definitely going to be looking to bring on other people to talk baseball. Guys who are very much in tune with the minor league systems I know dan pfeiffer one of our guys does some stuff with trenton. And we're going to have him on to talk about a lot of our prospects And then you know. Maybe we'll get crazy. Invites a mother opposing fan fan sites onto to get a little bit of little bit of a back and forth. Yes that'd be awesome. I don't know however go but that'd be awesome. Maybe i can get stoned. My buddies up here in boston at come on us at sox fans yeah i would love to talk and have a lot of things to say to them so Another thing i wanna to do sort of get to know us is Talk about what are walkup. Music would be for baseball. Whether you walk up to the plate or enter you know from the from the bullpen. Like mariana. or something like that and we're going to do this with all the guys that come on the show you know. Just get into their brain a little bit about Personnel what type of music. So scott put you on the spot. What would your walk up. music bay. like i've never thought about my walkup music right. So i probably do one of two things and and maybe mixed in you know throughout the season if i were if i were the starting shortstop for the new york yankees but why starting shortstops. That's true that's true. I can feel the bar about hitting maybe a recent mendoza line but highly doubt it The two things that would be. I i have to i have to that..
