"Did the MIDI protocols become a standard will remember the Dave Smith created the first protocol in 1983 and at that time, computers and related equipment had a limited ability to handle data transfer's. So this was an era before broadband and high speed data transfer cables. The many protocols allowed musicians to create detailed instructions on how a performance should be played and send it in manageable chunks of data, either to a computer or to other musical instruments. It was an elegant solution for a particularly tricky problem. The Atari Esti, which debuted in February 1985 featured a built in Midi port and supported many sequence or software, bringing the ability to record music into the home studio. This was a huge shift from the norm, where you'd have to rely upon a professional recording space tow lay down tracks. Now with right Midi controllers and Atari Esty. You could create your own musical masterpiece and other computers followed suit and plenty of sound card manufacturers included support for many connections. In addition, many allowed people to record on multiple channels and then because the data was all digital, you can mess with it after you recorded it, so you could not only tweak instructions to play back at a different pitch or a different tempo. You could also copy and paste sections, making a short drum track repeat the entire length of a piece of music, for example. Or you could grab a section of music and shifted to a different place along the overall piece. You could mix up a track, you could mash it with other many tracks and come up with all sorts of interesting effects. Using a software based synthesizer, also known as a soft sent, you can create virtual instruments. These software packages tend to have massive options in them, allowing you to replicate the sound of specific instruments. Just by selecting a few options. Using such a synthesizer, you could choose to playback a guitar riff on a synthesized 1954 Fender Stratocaster. Or in 1958. Gibson E s 3 35 or even a Cordoba see three M classical guitar or let's say you want the keyboard part played on a classic moge synthesizer. Complete with all the fade er's and knobs. Ah good, Soft scent package will contain emulators for hundreds of different instruments complete with all the options they came with. Plus, they frequently will offer up additional features that can be applied to the sound beyond what the instruments would support Natively. The Midi Standard has had several revisions since its introduction. They tend to be backwards, compatible with earlier versions, but not necessarily interoperable with each other. Think of them as branching pathways. For example, Roland created Roland's general Standard or Roland GS toe add in additional instruments and features not supported by the original MIDI Protocol. Yamaha did something similar with the Yamaha has extended General Midi or ex G. Both were compatible with the first generation of many protocols, but they were not compatible with each other. And so there was a bit of splintering and what was meant to be a universal standard. Other refinements to the standard allow for things such as tying many files to show controls like lighting or motion controls. You could create a sequence of lighting cues tightly coupled with sound cues this way, automating the entire sequence. These sort of features air useful on everything from theatrical presentations to crazy parties. I imagine Never get invited to crazy parties. But I've been to a lot of musicals. Other specifications allowed users to incorporate downloadable sounds into midi sequences or use alternate tunings for synthesised instruments. Normally, these refinements were the result of collaborative efforts among various synthesizer manufacturers. So the MIDI standard is continuing to evolve. Today, People are still working on adding and features and by people, I mean, mostly various companies that are interested parties and continuing the MIDI protocol, so Again. It's seeing people that are typically competitors get together to create a standard that works across multiple pieces of hardware and that benefits the end user the most. It has really changed the world of music production back in the old days, you had to try and get big enough so that some studio will take a chance on you and allow you time inside a actual recording studio to lay down some tracks, or you would have to pay an exorbitant amount of money in order to do so. Now, with old small, relatively small investment upfront, you can make a recording studio of your own and lay down all sorts of tracks. Now you are limited in What Near track is ultimately going to sound like Based upon the type of playback equipment you can afford, the better the equipment, the better. Your Midi file will sound when it's played back. Otherwise, If you're playing it back on something that's fairly primitive. It's going to sound like it came out of a cheap imitation instrument, not Really well synthesized instrument. Now, if that's the effect you're going for. It's not a big deal if you want to have sort of a retro kind of kitschy Simulated sound. That's not that's not a big problem. But if you want something that sounds like, hey, that sounds like that's a real cello. Then you want to shell out the big bucks. I can actually still pick out Fake stringed instruments on even high profile types of soundtracks and scores and movies in particular, I'm looking at you. Tired of the Caribbean and your synthesize string sections. I hear it, but it's really, really good, much better than it used to be. So the MIDI format has been incredible because again it was such an elegant solution, creating instructions on how to recreate a performance rather than Recording an existing performance and then being able to tweak that performance in any way you want so that you can make it better than the original play through wass, or at least different. It's really interesting to me, so I want to thank Jesse for the suggestion. I really appreciate it. We're going to be doing a lot of episodes based off listener suggestions over the next few weeks, and we're going to do some more about music in the next couple of episodes. Think of it as a mini music arc. Of tech stuff episodes because I kind of wanted to group together thematically linked topics so we'll talk more about music in the next episode, but that's all for mid E for today. If you have suggestions for future episodes, maybe you want to get your suggestion in like Jesse did send me an email. The address for the show is tech stuff at howstuffworks dot com. Or you can drop me a line on Facebook or Twitter. The handle of both of those is text of H s W Remember, we haven't instagram account. You can follow us on there and see.

"For Rossi the changes mind and then you know Malvo be out in the cold or at least wearing a petronas uniform. If he couldn't get the deal done with Suzuki so Yamaha was in a great position. Here which is obviously what position you WANNA be in in any kind of business his stealing. But I don't think that they were trying to strong-arm Venezuela's in the signing and decide if they wouldn't have given him the requisite amount of money plus us they were pretty much guaranteeing that he was going to be the undisputed number one rider for Yamaha for now. We'll talk about that later. A going into the twenty twenty one season season so it's a rare circumstance in the past year or so Emoji p where the lower of the known wins out over that really green looking grass on the other side of the fence. But this is one of those situations where did you know. It's not like maverick isn't taking some risk though. I mean he certainly is. He's throwing his lot in wholeheartedly with Yamaha he saying. I think you can dig us out of this hole. And that means that the most frustrated Yamaha rider over the last two seasons is now all the exact same person who's betting on their ability to win again not just races but when championships so he's going all in on them as much as they're going all in on him. So is this the right choice for maverick. Well it remains to be seen. But I think it's very safe choice and I don't blame him for doing it is is it. The right choice for Yamaha won't yeah I think so I mean Valentino Rossi aside and we'll talk about him in a couple of minutes Yamaha knew that they wanted ended their plan to center around Fabio Coiro and while he's immensely talented he'll also be just twenty one years old in twenty twenty one on and taking his first real shot with factory team right and the best thing to have on the other side of the garage in that situation I think is an anchor someone not just with experience Emoto GP but experience with that bike with the m one to help keep pushing development forward keep Niro their philosophy from going off the rails and then y'all is fills that role perfectly while also offering the ability to win races and if things go really well to compete for a championship himself so unless you think you can go out and get Marc Marquez which was very highly unlikely then I don't see who else would make a ton of sense to pick for that role outside a maverick because anybody else that you bring in they're gonNA have to learn the entire system they're going to have to learn the entire bike in all of that comes built in with Mavericks I think it makes sense for both sides even though I think for maverick he may have had more choices more options out there than Yamaha would have had the longer and longer things went before Rossi or or anybody decided what they wanted to do so maverick science I ended isn't that big of a surprise outside of the fact that it came insanely early in the year but it all made sense just a few days later when Yamaha kicked the drama into high gear I mean they were channeling their energies on this one by announcing Fabio quattro being signed to the Monster Energy Factory team starting in twenty twenty one didn't take long it offer them to make the announcement and this one was even bigger than Daniela's not just because I'm Fabio to the factory squad but because of the implications applications of that signing for the future of Valentino Rossi we'll cover the Rossi side of things in a minute but as soon as this announcement came out everything that happened before made sense the signing of Y'all is the announcement that Rossi was gonNA take some extra time to decide about his future all of that I don't care what anybody else says all all of it was based on and predicated by the idea that Yamaha had already come to an agreement with quattro and by doing so they're making a clear statement they are betting their entire future on the youngster but should they is this the right move for Yamaha it doesn't take a genius to answer that one yeah totally without question you know it was clear that every manufacturer in the paddock was putting together their case to make a play for most notably Khadi Body and with how things went join Zarko Yamaha already understood the risk that they will be taking by waiting for Fabio listen to offers from everyone else but but that being said the stakes for Yamaha with Bobbio far higher in my opinion and that's probably why they let's Arco entertain offers from other people and and they didn't want to take that chance at all with Coiro because for as good as Um was in his rookie year was even better but being only twenty years old his is upside huge even compared to Zarco his upside is huge and if Yamaha had waited they would have lost them because somebody nobody would have shown up with a blank check to Qadi and made a fantastic offer an he couldn't say no to it if they were still wondering you know what was going to happen over here with Valentine Rossi Rossi and everybody at Yamaha new this even Rossi himself for that matter and Yamaha was in a very unique position or is in a very unique peak position when it comes to Fabio because I mean obviously he's already signed to the Peronist team and so that helps out but remember Yamaha was the only manufacturer are willing to take a chance on him Emoji P. I mean his numbers were impressive in Moto two four speed up writer Neil with finger quotes there but not as far as motor to in general was concerned and so- Yamaha took a shot on him you know all of the other riders that came from Ota to GP last year have far better stats who are all far higher in the standings then Fabio quarrel was but Yamaha went out on that lemonade took that chance and you only get the opportunity the trade in on that kind of advantage one time and that's exactly what Yamaha did and so it makes perfect sense but also have to realize the Yamaha is taking on a little bit riskier. I mean we got to be realistic about it. There is no guarantee that Fabio Coiro is the next mark marquess cast or that he can even go out and beat mark on a regular basis. You know for an example of that. Let's just go back to John Zarko. After his rookie year mark was going going around saying this guy is going to be one of my main contenders. My main challengers going forward by the end of this second season on the tech three bike well join had started to come back down to earth and we saw the effect that had on his psyche compounded himself and carried over into Zastava fashion once he got the KTM. So there absolutely is is some risk here for Yamaha had doesn't necessarily mean it's a slam dunk but it's a calculated risk and I think a very good gamble that's absolutely worth it especially since they were able able to hang onto maverick at the same time. So you get Vigna's as the anchor in twenty one twenty two and Quattro is the spark the potential going forward. Now how Vin. y'All is feels about that. Well who knows because he is and I said we will revisit this he is the number one writer for now even with Rossi still racing racing because Yamaha have decided that he is the writer. That's going to be the cornerstone going forward. So even though Valentino's riding this year I mean from a psychological standpoint vanilla all as is now the undisputed number one but even he knows that does that. His window of opportunity is pretty short. I I mean he's got to definitely make a big impact now indefinitely. Take the reins both in terms of performance in terms of leadership on the team. Because as I mean with as good as Quattro is and the fact that he's getting a full factory SPEC M one this year patroness by the time we get the twenty twenty one maverick. Manila's May already be fighting for top billing wants testing gets underway. And so he's going to have to get get over vignettes says he's going to have to get over. You know this thing. Where one bad brace sends them into a tailspin for three or four weeks? You know he's got to take the reins reigns of that team and lead from the front as opposed to complaining about the bike. You know if you happen to have a bad race or if you know Fabio does better than him and it's not going to be an easy challenge for Maverick. Because with the announcement of the signing like I said Yamaha is already committed to giving qual- Charro full factory specked by next year. Essentially making him a factory rider just wearing Petronas colors. And that means that we're going to be able to directly. Compare Fabio a maverick realizing that if they're doing equally Guoli is well or member while Fabio is going to have the bike. He's still working with engineers. He's going to have an even better structure around him when he gets to Monster Yamaha. So if they're equal this year then things are GonNa be very very interesting heading into twenty twenty one but I think it works out well for for everyone involved potentially works out well for everyone involved because Yamaha right now gets to see how Qantara will handle handle the pressure of knowing that he's got the same stuff as Rossi and Venezuela's do then y'all is going to have to step up his game which is only good for Yamaha and potentially give himself to and Bobbio is going to you get to kind of integrate himself into everyday life with the factory bike before the pressure is on one hundred percent before he's wearing the letters that Valentino Rossi used to wear. I mean not obviously Veasley the leathers but you know what I mean. He's taking over Rossi's bike for all intents and purposes. That's a lot of pressure but at least he's going to be already familiar with the bike and he's already going to have shown himself when everybody else would he can do with it. And I think that makes things a little bit easier so it is going to be interesting by the way the see. How quattro handles all of this? Because I'm like like so many riders that are that age that are that young. They grew up their entire. Lives watching. Valentino Rossi you. Know Emulating Valentino Karachi to one extent or another and dreaming about the opportunity to ride side by side with Valentine Roc- but that's one thing it's completely different thing to be the writer. that takes aches over for Valentina Rossi. Only one writer in Yamaha's ever done that before. Now's Ben Speeds and we all know that it didn't work out that well for him and and I don't know why exactly but part of that could have been the pressure. I'm sure that that was at least some factor because even though you're riding a Yamaha and it could be anybody could be Vigna's in y'all's yummy could be. You could consider to have been. Hey Lorenzo's Yamaha. There's just something about you know the idea that you're filling in that you're taking over for Valentine's Rossy see some pretty big shoes to fill right and it doesn't get any easier when you've got Marquez. Going around you know pointing to you singling you out. As being the new challenge albinger the new writer. He's got to worry about and we've talked about this before. Mark does that on purpose. He is more than willing to finger his challengers and in highlight them above everybody else because he knows that puts extra pressure on them and that is a page. Right Outta Valentino. Rossi's playbook by the way you know by complementing lamenting somebody. You're actually putting more pressure on them. I mean is Fabio Quadra really going to be able to take the fight. Fight the mark on around by round basis. This will we're gonNA find out really soon we're GONNA find out potentially this year and we're definitely GONNA find out in two thousand twenty one but the drama wasn't done and yet no no not by a long shot because as soon as we got the fabio quote Sharara announcement while then the third in the TRIFECTA came out who are he'll Lorenzo the announced his Yamaha's Mo- GP test rider starting this year and I'll be honest. I'm I'm selfishly happy that this happened because if if you remember back to Valencia last year I said very confidently the Takenaka Gami would get where he lorenzo seated Honda and that who are hey would then be. The official official Yamaha test rider. And I had already struck out on the first half of that prediction. So I'd have felt completely stupid if I bomb on the second half to so thank you or hey for bailing me out on that one. But there isn't much to talk about here in terms of controversy. I mean come on this makes total sense. We know that Lorenzo was great. It on the Yamaha. It was definitely the bike that he got along with the most. And it also and this is more debatable but I firmly believe that his contributions to do Sukati were hidden behind his mostly lackluster results. But he really did help. Develop that program push forward. He merely have the time to do the same thing at Honda data. Now of course you could say well. How do you push bike from being the dominant champion forward? Yeah it was a dominant champion in the hands of Marc Marquez. But I'm pretty sure that if Lorenzo had stuck around for the rest of his contract he would have been able to start to help make that bike easier for himself to ride as well as for cal and for Taco for that matter but he will absolutely be able to contribute more to the program to the amaha program then Yoenis vulgar did and that's how the slide against vulgar I mean Lorenzo simply has way more experience way more success and because of that better insight on the bike so this move makes sense. I mean there's zero risk on the part of Yamaha and potentially a lot of reward but it is who are. Hey Lorenzo that we're talking about so. There has to be some potential for controversy curtsy and don't worry there is and it comes in the form of potential wildcard rides..

"Thank you so much for listening to the only motor. GP Show on the Internet that society. We've been sucked into another dimension. Where space time in silly season contracts no longer follow the laws of the universe? Man Can you believe what Yamaha have done in just a couple of days time time I mean because last year is silly season. That wasn't supposed to be wasn't whacky enough. We already. We already have a major factory. Not only locking up their entire twenty twenty one twenty two roster but the doctor himself Valentino. Rossi appears to have been sacked by the very organization that he helped build. What the heck is going on? We're going to try and figure that out and I'll tell you why Valentine Rossi didn't actually get fired word per se but also speculate on what might happen next. Although if I'm being honest I'm not exactly sure what's going to happen at this point so this episode has officially become a preseason silly season spectacular with a few other things thrown him. So let's get on with it because I want to talk about this stuff Before the over the website. If you haven't checked it out yet at Moto Week Dot net you can also follow along on twitter and instagram. At Moto week hit up the facebook page facebook dot com slash motor week dot net and the red it sub ours slash motor week. That's not only where you can like the show or subscribe to the right of form but where you can leave your comments and I know it's been a couple of episodes since we've talked about comments and I keep meaning to do it but Yamaha keeps announcing things so if they would kindly stop we we would have plenty enough time to talk about all of your thoughts on all of this stuff and I definitely want to hear your thoughts on everything that Yamaha have done over the past couple of days as then of course we've got Sapang coming up in just a couple of days from now so I'm going to try and really gonNA try to another show in between now and then but for right now we're definitely talking about all of the stuff that Yamaha have done over the past. What five days or so and let's get on with that here? It is the rundown everything we're GonNa talk about on this episode of the show and we'll try to do it. Mostly in order I wanNA save the Valentino Rossi stuff for a little bit later so we'll do most of them the way that they were announced starting with maverick Penola signing two year deal to stay with Yamaha through twenty twenty two and then Fabio quattro officially becoming the second monster Yamaha Rider Ryder starting in two thousand twenty one then as if they weren't done yet who are halo. Renzo is officially ha-has MotoGP test rider. And then that leaves Valentino Rossi. What does the future hold for the doctor? Well I'll tell you what I think is GonNa Happen. And then we'll discuss how Yamaha's swift decisions before testing is even started is going to affect the other teams silly season plans Then we do have a couple of non Yamaha things to talk about and they're not small either. We've we've got a previous boss talking about the Andrea you know and they situation and talking about their brand new bike that we're going to see him a couple of days and factory to. Kati has already unveiled. They're twenty twenty bike in just to bring some levity to the craziness will finish off the show discussing what they've come out with not only livery wise but there are a couple of things games that are interesting on that bike to that. We'll talk about as well all right. So let's get down to business and get going here but starting with the many many insane announcements announcements that Yamaha have made this week the first domino to fall maverick Venezuela's who ha- announced it signed a new two year contract for the two thousand twenty one twenty twenty two seasons now obviously. This is insanely early for this type of signing especially placing as every major seat was going to be open and even if matt had been scared off seeing how many Honda worked out for where he'll Lorenzo. You think that there would be at least some mutual interest between maverick and Suzuki seeing as former manufacturer had one just as many races uses as Yamaha did last season so they've clearly made progress on the bike serious progress on the bike and that was really good on it. When it wasn't that competitive edited so you'd think that there would be at least some sort of interest there between those two but he was obviously more interested in staying and knowing what we know now it all makes sense but I had a different take on maverick signing before the announcement and then after the Fabio announcement before we knew about Fabio Charro being signed. I thought y'all is was kind of making a preemptive move here you remember that interview a few weeks back with Valentino Rossi where he said. Hey you map should be just dissatisfied the ride. The Petronas says the factory bike and knowing that that's what Rossi said and knowing what kind of leverage the doctor has has over Yamaha it would be easy to think that valet was going to use his influence to banish his teammates. The satellite bike so the move to sign the contract right away would protect his position with the team and then put the pressure on Rossi and Yamaha to figure out what they were going to do with that final remaining seat so I thought thought maybe then y'all is in his agent took the initiative were ultra-aggressive maybe took a little less money than mave would have liked to be able to ensure that he was going to get there. He was going to get that bike. Daddy wanted you know because they were afraid that Rossi was gonNA flex his muscle and force him out. That's all before the signing now after the Fabio announcement well that changes things drastically if Yamaha was fixing on signing Quadra at the time well then announcing that I would have started started a tidal wave of rumors and opinions on exactly who is going to get fired and where that Ryder was going to end up going trona somewhere else. And we're not talking about any writer up against maverick Viagra's in the court of public opinion we're talking about unleashing the VR forty six army weighing in on the merits of the doctor and all of his success against Venezuela's and what is a lot more potential right now but a lot less stats. And I'm pretty sure or the Yamaha wanted to avoid that type of scenario which absolutely explains the strategic order of the announcements Venezuela's first then the next next full day twenty four hours later Rossi clearly saying a not meal ready to make up my mind. Both Yamaha and I are in agreement on this. And we'll figure your things out later but I understand what's going on type of thing then the Quad Harare announcement with the qualifier that. Hey we're going to provide a bike to Valentine Rossi Ossie if he wants to race in twenty twenty one so they covered all of their basis on that making sure that they did not like get the Vr forty-six army You know putting together their pitchforks and torches and heading to the corporate offices. It was smart and it was their best chance of minimizing any negative perception option and the potential marketing disaster. That could go along with it with the suggestion that you know. Valentina wasn't complacent and what was happening or that he was somehow forced out by Yamaha after Yamaha already said Valentina can stick around as long as he wants to. So they've obviously been paying attention to the follies of APPRECIA- men Honda and do comedy the past couple of years but before we tackle just how complacent Rossi may or may not have been in this entire process. Let's Focus Indiana's first number one. Why would maverick be so quick to pick Yamaha over another team and that's a good question? Not Not that Vigna's pick Yamaha in general obviously relationship there. He's had some success on the bike but they did it so early before the final details are even worked out on on the twenty twenty bike let alone what the plan is for twenty twenty one. I mean after all mavericks showed the majority of the outward frustration with the development or lack thereof on the m one over over the last season and a half or so. So we're Rossi's kind of you know all or nothing Yamaha Guy I am either gonNA sign or I'm gonNA retire type of thing you'd figure they've been we all as knowing the struggles that he's had the past couple of years would be far more likely to look seriously somewhere else and maybe even go somewhere else to get what he feels. He needs on the bike. Now that being said it's understandable. Why you know he might have had a short field of PA potential places to begin with you know he may not have considered Kakadu your Honda when he saw both Rossi and then Lorenzo go to one or both of those places in struggle so maybe he thought hey why take the risk and with Honda? You gotta assume home that their top priority is keeping Marc Marquez. At all costs they be crazy not to and so if was leaving Yamaha at least in part to get under out from under that shadow Valentino Rossi and no longer be the number two rider or half the battle with someone over who's number one and number two. Then why would would he didn't want to go to Honda and place. I can eat mark Suzuki though. That would've been a much more attractive option. I would think but it's possible that they weren't terribly keen in on him. I mean after all Vignelles represents a fast but sometimes inconsistent rider that's capable of winning motor. GP Races and Suzuki already has exactly really that in Alex Rinse fast but sometimes inconsistent rider capable of winning MotoGP races and imagine that rinse comes cheaper and with loyalty built him. We're Venezuela's MARDI ditch them. Once in his first opportunity to get out of Suzuki and you know you put all those things together and I guess it makes a little bit more sense. That Vanilla would be willing to sign this early on. If I'm being honest I would have liked to have seen math. have another go at. This is Yuki now that that bike is much better but obviously it's not going to happen now. So Yamaha made sense the way that they did everything and I think that mavs signed early because Yamaha gave him a heads up about what they were planning on doing with. Fabio Oh quattro and if there was already a little bit interest there already with maverick Venezuela's then maybe they just sat down in front of him and said here. This is what we're thinking of doing. If you WANNA WANNA look around. I mean that's fine but there's GonNa be a lot of controversy. There's going to be a lot of talk in between and we're definitely going to do this thing with Fabio quattro and we'll talk about it in the second. If there there was a chance for Yamaha to lock Fabio. They absolutely had to do it as quickly as they could. And if you think about that scenario where they just announced the Quattro Charro signing and that's it now you've got one seat left and I would imagine that the pressure would be on for Vanilla Zan people I mean with Rossi having already said I'm not ready to make my decision yet. I'M GONNA wait. You know midseason couple of races in to figure out what I'm GonNa do Maverick would have been risking Rossi changing aging his mind at any moment and we all already know that that's all it would've taken would be.

"The history of motor GP for one of the most dramatic finishes of the Marc Marquez era. And if you have not seen that race that two thousand fifteen Dutch t t and you don't know what I'm talking about then get yourself to YouTube. After after the show, of course, but get yourself to YouTube, and Google ads in two thousand fifteen Rossi Marquez epic epic battle. So it all marks average MotoGP finish asset one point eight three. So even though he may not come across like the two-wheeled titan. He doesn't places like Saxon ring or Austin. He is just as dangerous. And he is just as much of a threat, and he is the writer to beat this weekend. Of course, the guy most interested in chasing him down and taking away that title of favorite writer in this race. Andrea, if it's yo, so who after losing points in both of the last two races desperately needs a strong bounceback at a place that really isn't suited that much to either him or the Dakota in general. But there are some fast sections here where he can utilize the GP nineteenth horsepower in breaking ability at least a little bit, and they focused on turn in and make corner speed quite a bit in the Catalunia test last Monday, which should pay off this weekend. Plus while this may not be the best track for Dovy. It's not as. Bad as it looks for him because while Andrea has never won the Dutch TT. He has finished on the podium here three times. But get this, he finished on the podium three times on three different bikes, a Honda, Yamaha and a Dakota and how many people can say that about any track not many people at all, and that does prove that he does get along with this place. He understands the track, and he knows how to race it. And, hey, we've seen some unexpected magic out of Dobie before at places like Machado and Cataluna over the past few seasons. That's what he's going to have to be aiming for this weekend. A little something extra a little something unexpected. And he has to hope that those improvements that he and Danilo Putra Chee made in the open tests last week were real because he needs to score. Solid podium points and time is of the essence because he can't keep giving up points to Mark marquess and hope to have a realistic chance of coming back and challenging for the title by Valencia Valentine Rossy, you know a week ago, we were having a discussion about whether Valentino should retire. And if you didn't hear that show, let's last week show, you can go back, and you can listen to my opinion on that I won't give anything away, if you haven't listened yet, and then we can have later, I am going to confidently call out the doctor as a podium candidate this weekend. There's just something special about Rossi at the Dutch t t he stood on the top step of the podium, eight eight times here and he has ten total podiums so that means that nearly every time he gets on the podium. It's because he's won the. Race. And he has this neck of using the Dutch t t to break bad stretches. I mean he had his first win back from Coty when he came back the off from Takata his first win back with Mojo was at the Dutch t t and his last win so far emoji p which, of course will be two years ago this weekend also at Asan now. I know things don't look the best right now. But remember, he is coming off a race, where he was taken out of podium contention through no fault of his own. It was not bad riding on Rossi's part am both he and his teammate were riding equally as competitive at the time. And you know, it always seems like when things like the most bleak the most desperate for Valentina Rossi Asim rolls around and it flips a switch in something unexpected happens. He just seems to get a charge out of it. It's kind of like when my boss sends me to the most remote part of Minnesota. In a desperate attempt to keep me from talking racing with you guys. It's somehow manages to inspire..

"And that was really his goal coming into this race Yamaha gave him a bike that seemed to be better and seemed to be faster, and I'll argue in a minute that it actually is better and is faster on top of that. They gave. Maverick more input treating him a lot more like a number one rider with you know, there is towards the future there. And so that's why it was so important for Vanegas to come out and take the lead. Take command of this team now Yamaha themselves certainly have a lot more work to do. But I really think they have made some progress. And so when they give maverick a better bike than he had before at some point. It's up to him to do something with what he's been given. And instead he fell right back into the old traps. Slow start struggled with a full tank. And then once he kind of overcame all of that and collected himself and started to recover. He had Doug so much of a hole that there was no chance he was going to get back to the podium, and he was also thoroughly outraced by his elderly teammate in the process. So it literally was the same old thing. And this was his opportunity to take a step out of the shadows of the forty six and take control of. Of this. Team definitively any wasn't able to do it. And you know, it's funny because Shane said, hey, despite all the struggles that we've watched maverick fan y'all is go through. I don't get why on earth the commentators always always position than y'all is being on the verge of putting contention even when he's running in the back half of the top ten I'll defend those guys a little bit. Because mave did qualify on the pole number one. So we all assume there was some speed there. Maybe it was gonna come back. And they also I mean, it's their job to paint the most exciting picture of the race as possible. But it's also kind of part and parcel of being a factory Yamaha rider. I remember they did the same type of thing with Ben species. They hooked him up quite a bit and is desperate. I wanted them to be right about them because I wanted him to succeed so badly as we all know it rarely panned out well for him. And we're kind of seeing the same type of thing happened right now with maverick than y'all is where he scores a win. And everybody's like, wow. Maverick is back. Well, you know, if you want to compete with Mark he's got a score four five six wins to get to that point. So yeah, right now, they are kinda hyping a massively under performing Ryder. But at least there's a reason for it. And they're going to do that with any factory Amaha Ryder. But even though Yamaha clearly has some work left to do. It's time for me to to take a feudal shot at convincing you that? There were some positives for Yamaha in this race. And actually a few of you pointed it out a Jake Gerald, Shane they were all among those that said, hey, Valentine Rossi and that healthy dose of Sunday..

Six coolest music meets tech products from NAMM

"Talking tech is brought to you by wicks dot com with wicks you can use artificial design intelligence to create a stunning website right from your phone in five minutes or less. Just go to wicks dot com. That's W I X dot com and create your professional website today. I just came back from the Namm show in Anaheim, as I do every January nam is the intersection of music meets technology, the latest guitars and other things that of course, get a musician like me really excited, and I can get you excited by telling you about six of the coolest gadgets that I saw I'm Jefferson Graham, you're listening to talking tech. And we gotta start with this foldable deter, this is a Qatari that actually bends in half. So that you can take it with you. When you're on the road. It's from a company called Kiara, and it's called the sender. And he really does fold in half. So that you could fit it underneath your seat on an airline or in the overhead compartment, but it's not cheap. It's three thousand dollars and you'll have to retune the guitar every time you bend it. But fun now how about the key tar the keytar is a new instrument that Yamaha introduced a portable electric keyboard? That kids can wear like ATar, and they can put it around their necks, and they can jump around their living room rocky out even if they don't know how to play at sort of their the rock band a mentality. So Yamaha has an app, and it will analyze your music library on your phone. And then offer suggestions songs that you should play along with and it's working out a system. So that even if you don't know how to play anything you play on the piano as you play along with the songs will be in tune. So if the songs in C and you play a sharper beef latte or an e flat or whatever it's in the right key. You can also play the piano as a regular piano. The keyboard sell for two hundred ninety nine dollars when it chips in February another idea of bringing more music to kids and making them enjoy themselves. So you're sitting there and you're practicing Joe Ramey on the piano or on the violin. And you wish you had somebody to jam with. Automated reality. Here we go. It's a new music app called music dot I love and you beam in the cartoon character to play along with you it, that's that's what you do in a are and the apps free. But of course, you'll be buying the cartoon characters and songs how about a musical glove is called the Kaikaku it connects to a smartphone or tablet via bluetooth, and it can be used to make drumming sounds. You just hit the buttons on the glove. And then you're making beats check by USA today article on nam and you'll see a video clip demonstrating. I also saw some rings do the same thing you basically put these rings on and they connect to an app in the smartphone. And you can start making beats from your ring. There's lot cheaper sixty five dollars from a company called spectrums. And how 'bout in acoustic electric hybrid guitar now? Everybody knows the classic acoustic guitar that folk singers and. Country artists have been playing all these years. I play on acoustic classical guitar players play on acoustic. And so you tar legend. Fender has taken a acoustic guitar and transformed it into an acoustic slash electric hybrid. So you start playing normally, and then you can connect it to an amp and you'll be playing electrified acoustic. But then if you wanna really rock out like Bruce Springsteen, Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones who both played telecasters. You can get all the hard rock sounds on this guitar, and the beauty is that if somebody would want to do this before and they're in a band they'd have to switch guitars in the middle of a song. Now, they don't have to. It'll only cost you two thousand dollars. And for the weirdest thing that I saw nam the world's most expensive guitar strap one point two million dollars with forty carats diamonds, sapphires rubies and emeralds set into eighteen carat gold. It's a conversation star. Order created by an artist named Colin Byrne of Morley Australia who set out to make what he calls the world's most beautiful guitar strap his hope is that he will sell it to an art collector or someone who just loves rock and roll, I'm Jefferson Graham, and you know, what it was cool to look at. But I'm going to stick with the five dollars charge that maybe I'll spring for twenty bucks. Now, you've been listening to talking tech police at scribe the show wherever you find great podcast, please rate and review us and thanks everyone for listening. "Fill your your career before, he? Retired was in music right musical companies Yep? Like Yama Yamaha in the eighties Yep would you do for Yamaha Yamaha I handled marketing advertising and I was in charge of the, synthesizers for a while which is really strange job for a guitar, player. But. But. In this was where this is out of Buena park, California? Okay yeah Did that for a while then I, had my own company helping out companies worked for a company called, elisa's. For. Awhile And then JBL early part. Of the century fantastic company made the best speakers on. Planet. Oh yeah great stuff and. Just had a few retired now they drag you back in well from time to time yeah You don't get. To retired no I mean this is kind of fun. Too All. Right before we get to the honorees and some of that kind. Of stuff this is actually for a good cause tell. Us about the cause the cause this year is entirely music in the schools so what we're doing is, is some of the funding goes, to the music emission for the art program. Which pairs artists and musicians together. And we're also taking music to. The schools we're taking performances to the schools one thing people will see it the platinum music award show on Thursday is a presentation where we're showing. The, videotape of a performer in front of a bunch of elementary school kids yeah that's up in the we all remember from of your. Kids. And it's so we're just trying to get that impact because, right now. Awesome. So they are the the recipients of some of the proceeds whatever's left okay they are all of us who who. Run the show or volunteers. We don't get paid, to set right and committed the foundation. Is all volunteer so. It's all goes whatever we. Can. Get to, the schools that's what we do Okay tell us about the tell us about the honorees the honorees. We have as last year a very diverse group we've got Antonia. Op DACA she'd been playing music for about eighty years. Self talk Atari and accordion playing new Mexican folk and she's going to be honored onstage by opinion going, to do whatever to now each, honoree was nominated just by somebody New Mexico. Yeah we'll be open nomination process. Open nomination in this year was. January February and we had a ton of a ton of good nominations and we have an all star group of secret people who do the honorees. And, one thing we do we'll do it again next year is if you nominate someone and we pick them we're going to give you. Tickets. To the show when you come to the show you're going, to get. Your. Picture taken with your right that was my point so we know who nominated her oh yeah yeah and they'll be. There they'll be there with. A cool picture tennis, school in plain squeeze box recording for. Eighty years yeah yeah Folk music doing it still playing and Tonio Antonia. Apponaug, Antonio Doc We've got Dr William. Clark he's been at the New Mexico state university For years he's he's rounded, up there headed up their music program and all the bands and. Stuff and the performance for. Him is going to be a brass ensemble I'm not sure if it's ten eleven. Twelve or thirteen people but it's going to be big very nice and so, we're? Looking forward to that and he's he's even he's, got a senior band down there he's got all these bandages. Have had thousands of people go through his program right we've got your friend and mine Nacho Mendez right and and pay, near in. World Latin music and looking forward and. Her band is actually going to do her her presentation and she'll, be introduced by Honey years from Saint on Harris Tom grow all Nick is going to be there he's he's been the founder and executive director of apples productions. Albuquerque doing a one hundred concerts a year. Thirty years old this year outpost and and a lot of jazz and a lot of, off center music just or anything he's leading into Mexico jazz festival Yeah Infancy here in Santa. Fe Tom was one of the guys that I said last year when you guys started talking about this notion that we're going to do. This I, said you mean people like Tom, Garol, Nick and it had be your. To he had to wait for the second year, well and he's going to be. Introduced I think by Doug, Lawrence right his his, his the performance is going to be by, dog and he's gonna be introduced by, bergdahl, Burt. Dalton so we're going to have all the, big there's. One You'd, have to narrow down the field of people, that would want to introduce Tom who, have, played. It outpost we've brought to New Mexico over. Thirty years It is a. Great list and an endless list of people he was on before the, jazz festival and I said you know favorite moments and, he gave me a couple I didn't really expect him to expecting to. Kind of be diplomatic impasse, but being Tommy gimme some top moments at the outpost and then I was getting emails from him for the. Next few days they own add this one Because I had my favorites. At any like people like Frame mortgage At. The outpost but I mean he had he had his favorites for other, reasons anyway Great pick well-deserved We also have a pioneer in will not. By nearby Apollo drum leader Malcolm Yuba who. Founded. Black eagle okay and we're looking forward. To hearing that that's a very interesting, power drum group and they will be. Performing. For him And then, we have the are LeBron award. Winner Lieber of course was one of the one of the music commissioners way back when here and founded the the Berkley. School. Of music on Boston so, on fairly, well known school and yeah so few. People have. Been there and so the hummingbird music half is, going to get that award last year that was, New Mexico school for the arts yes. And Katherine Lee Burke award right hummingbird right and good timing. There as well great timing and that's sort. Of. Came out from left field but it. Was a great left field of that, and that's going to be a performance He's not gonna forget Like what You're not going to tell us why wouldn't is if I. Told. You okay Let's see, the school music in schools is the. Recipient right, that's going to be great but none of these things can happen. You know there's not gonna be any any revenue leftover for music in schools if you don't have all the great. Sponsors to pick up a lot of the. Cost, and in-kind stuff like that tell us about some. Of, your wonderful sponsor well we were if you can. Without getting in trouble oh I won't get in trouble to this with. Me Listen well recently we we actually got, her presenting sponsor very late in the game came on a. Mention David Schwartz Davis was guy who thought of this in the first place he's a producer and and David's background is is from where I know. Him is in the inappropriate you industry he had a magazine called mix and he has a he started a, tech award which allowed us to in our industry to award products and people for their efforts Dr David for a long time so he was the guy who started this along with an idea he had with that Jacobs who heads up all of our sponsor efforts in nets also the. Co producer, and we couldn't even come close to doing this without Trish parks Tristesse our production director and she is a go-to person for for corporate events and corporate Shows and so on so she's just a powerhouse, in that area once again there..

"I think that's a good thing i think that's that's not a problem that we should be worried about or confused about i was gonna say of because technology's getting better now if you listen to you in electric piano from the nineteen eighty s i think you'd be able to tell the difference because they had a different quality to them and so for example now if you get an end to from yamaha it's very hard to tell the difference in a salesperson from yamaha would argue that you cannot tell the difference in the way feels with their design so it's not only can you not tell how it sounds different where it's difficult to sound different but it's also difficult to feel how it feels different between that nicole grant norb that in an upright i would say what you wanna listen for our very small new ones we come overtones their appeal there there there there wabi sabi it's it's that organic sound is actually indeed it's the inconsistency in the sound that is made if you want it to really dive deep into how to tell the difference but i don't think this is a skill to keep it short i don't think this is guilty need to worry about and you shouldn't be ashamed of you know this is a situation where you know so everyone can notice you could have noticed but you should know based on how they look whether something is an upright were granting that'd be a good skill to have good luck.

"You could start recording and make audio notes and then you can come back but and play and this is how you do that so he can do audio knows and notations and things like that and then once you shave this you go to the top left saved that could save that book mark and it becomes saved i'm gonna go ahead and cancel cancel button obviously to get back to those bookmarks or whatever remember the bottom line book navigation ishak navigation remember that and i'm gonna show you navigation so let it headings buyers are heading three pages as pages you put markers of butimar recap pump up sluggish marks for yamaha jeopardize highly little one now if you go to the right headings button pages but selected what marks by the time he was allowed out it was covered again the summer holidays had started in doubling down i made that book mark from chapter three so these are all the bookmarks and obviously i deaton of race the original content and though there but you get the point in get the idea of the principal idea behind of a book mark and how you can access directly to a book more just double tap on that and will take you directly to the placement we had it in a you can listen to it and things like that that is pretty cool i liked that quite a bit so that is about the books i must show you some other cool features back on i'm going to get outta here.

"Uh the yamaha he really likes the yamaha because uh the yamaha was a designed by a great um uh uh sound designer and is is really a he says very good sounding so those are a couple that are our home feeder grew suggests know what yamaha model he's talking up uh yeah he said he really liked the gas y s 106 106 lance an all in one has built in subs and and scott says he really likes that that's two hundred bucks so you can see i mean that's one tenth the cost of the post it's probably not as great sounding sure quick question it missiles bell doesn't have the audio lieutenantgeneral did should have optical down make a big deal when internal kidding so else oh yeah you want optical the the audio easy but so the ardia return channel is h d m i again it's only san generated on the tv obstacle is is similar it's the same thing but it's a better way of connecting we use the optical where i also have i have a number sambars i also have the ah sono sound bar also overpriced in my opinion but convenient and eggs can x the tv via uh and optical cable the reason you don't do that with the bows as much as because the bowe's release more like an aveeno receiver the the sonos is really a standalone devices there's no other box it's all going through the so sound bar the nicmos owners it's all wireless to and you can later ads surrounds and a subway for as you want to add more to it i'm not sure the son of sound bark costs uh it's a little more than the busy owes maybe three or four hundred bucks it has the advantage of supporting internet uh audio so you can listen spotify or who will music or amazon music on it you can listen a of different stuff you can listen to the show on it uh and you can control it via your smartphone or tablet so sonos might be another interesting choice i think it's very good sound quality and its expandable wirelessly over time.
