"Here are a couple of weeks ago, I'm expecting or hoping for a breakout season from Andrew Vaughan, which could really be good for last. But again, even those two things probably isn't easy for them. So I think correct. I think that I did this in the capsule coming up. But I absolutely believe that the rotation is the pivot point for this team because if they are to be better than what you and I expect, if they exceed all these wind projections, it's going to be because the rotation, which could be really, really good. If Lucas G lido bounces back if Dylan cease comes close to what he was last year, Lance lind can stay healthy. Michael kopech growing, but there's just so many cracks in the history of recent history of that group's performance. It's hard to make sense of it. It is, and you know, as I said before. So many question marks. So much variance and that's actually something I typed you and then I got distracted and ended up thinking else, but for me, this is the team that they could win 9 games. I'm not going to pick it, but I can see it. I could also see them winning about 75. I mean, I think that these question marks have so much variants never has those great years. They can be the White Sox we've been hoping to see for a while. But if they don't, we'll see what happens. All right, let's play the numbers game. Number three. Number three is four. So sticking in the Yale central for now. Shane Bieber was announced as being projected to be the opening day starter by Tara Francona the other day. That would be four straight opening day starts for him, which would be just one shy of humongous opening day, starts drink for a player in franchise history. That record is held by cord clue work and snail coalesced in 1917 to 21, so pain Bieber is really getting out there in terms of the historic equivalence pictures that we've seen. Number two number two is 20. But there are a lot of numbers we can pick here. Because I want to talk about draw them walker. Who has three homers, three doubles, 21 total bases, this spring. He's logging a thousand even

"Some size at the end, just like at the beginning. So part of the reason why I think they're fan base is in the mood that it is in, is that they got promised a lot. They got a lot of talk about multiple championships. They got a lot of talk about how the White Sox basically sold 2016, 2017. At least bet at the time, we had not seen a team that had like two friendly rotation starters locked up on a really team friendly deals and even at the time had a meeting it was a big trade asset. We had not seen the team that had that level of core in place with that level of value stripped out. And so this was supposed to be this big rebuild that set them up for good for the long term. They're going to be a dynasty the way the Astros have become where they're annually in the playoffs regularly and you could have a 5 to 6 to 7 to 8 year competitive window where they have multiple World Series appearances in there. So I don't think there's really any way they can match up with the level of expectations they set. I think any reasonable standard would just be winning the Yale central getting back to playoffs winning a playoff series being relevant in the late playoff discussion. All I think would be a reasonable successor seems certainly given what was actually put into this off season, which was more two real major additions, one, which is now Paris fraught around the core that that's probably a reasonable expectation for them if everything goes right. I don't really think that given what they've sacrificed for this to be the competitive window given the fact that kind of abundant three years and hyped us up as a time where they'd be annual contenders. I don't think just when he had division is really going to satiate their fans because they were promised a lot more, but I think just looking at this rasa day and what they have, I think that if they won the AL central, they won 93 plus games. I would certainly write that Pedro go folded a really good job with what he had. And it'd be hard for me to give another F to the front office if the pieces they put together delivered that. It's hard to win the divisions. I would know because I covered the White Sox now. They haven't won that many. So I think that's what a success is. I think when he a playoff series, they haven't won one since 2005. Even if they just get flattened in the LCS by an Astros or a Yankees team that I think is a tier above them, I think that'd be a successful year. But theoretically given that they were 81 and 81 last year and really bad that maybe even worse from a run differential perspective, even just add winning 90 games and being a wild card team or just being in the hunt all season long and just looking better, but obviously better, but there's this gulf between what they say to their expectations where and what I think is actually reasonable to expect from the group that they've assembled, which is a lot more just, you know, win a bad division. I think that'd be a good year for them. Right, well, we will see if going to summer school can help the White Sox salvage their GPA. You can read about their studies, I'll see you some lung at the athletic, and you can find James on Twitter at JR vegan, James, thanks, as always. I thought this had to end with me doing a prediction is that sometimes last year. Yeah, we've scrapped it. But if you've got one holstered and ready to go, I don't want to waste your time. If I'm out, I don't have to be wedded to some prediction. I would definitely not do more than what's required me. I will take, I will give a sea level performance where I do nothing above. What is it? Perfect. Okay, we will conclude with the past blast, which comes to us from 1970 and from David Lewis and architectural historian and baseball researcher based in Boston. David writes, 1970, Finley covers his bases. In 1970, ever eccentric athletics owner Charlie Finley was, as UPA put it, at it again. In an effort to liven up opening day in Oakland, Finley requested and received permission from baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn to use bases painted a bright gold on a one game trial basis. The experiment called for first second and third base but not home plate to be painted, finlay was quoted as saying it should make players want to reach base more often. Which is an interesting hypothesis. Should it? The fact that the bases are painted gold is the idea here that we will fool the players into thinking that they're golden that they get to take the bases back with them. I don't know that it would make them want to reach base more often, but I guess it's pretty to look at. Continuing here, adding to the opening day spectacle, a's pitcher Jim mudcat grant was tapped to sing the national anthem, reportedly the first active player to do so. Finley evidently liked the experiment enough that he suggested colored bases as a permanent rule change at the 1970 winter meetings in December. This suggestion, along with a proposal to add a 22nd pitch clock, was ultimately rejected by the playing rules committee. So finlay, he was et cetera is a good word for it. He was ahead of his time in some ways, and he was a showman and promoter and he liked some sideshow elements and he liked colors, colorful uniforms, colored bases, colored balls, right? Orange colored baseballs. Initiative, but colored bases. I don't know. I mean, it's similar to today where we're talking about a change to the bases and an actual pitch clock. So finlay would probably be pleased about that, but I guess you would be disappointed that the bigger bases are still just plain old boring white and not break gold. Yeah, I mean. Wow, wow, could have had an even better photo up. Short air in Arizona earlier this week if the basis were not only bigger, but bright gold. Gold. You know? Championship bases. It's like when it's like when a club wins the World Series and then their numbers get to have the gold outlining, you know? Yeah. Maybe someday. Maybe someday. All right, that will do it for today and for this week. Thanks as always for listening. RIP to Tim mccarver, who died on Thursday at age 81, 21 year playing career, two time all star, two

"Step giant Carlos Stanton. That ball is gonna be gone a Grand Slam to win the game. No one out bases loaded Grand Slam bottom of a 9th and the Yankees have come back in the 9th inning with 5 runs to win the game 9 8. And the call Stanton had been struggling mightily since coming off the injured list last month. Matt said a big Grand Slam in their own Francisco endorsed 7th inning giving them a 7 5 win at Milwaukee Atlanta one again, bray's Clinton playoff spot. They stay a game behind the mets. They're even in the lost column. Cleveland took a big step towards one of the Yale central 5 in the 11th to meet the White Sox and go up by at 5 Toronto moving closer to release a wildcard playoff spot in 18 to 11 win at Philadelphia. John stash now, where Bloomberg sports, Nathan. Okay, John, thank you. It's 6 37 on Wall Street. Time now to take a look at stock some of the names moving in the pre market with Bloomberg radio and TV markets correspondent pretty Gupta on this fed decision day. It looks like the broader markets and kind of wait and see mode creedy, but we have seen a big surge in the commodity space with this partial mobilization announcement overnight from Vladimir Putin. We absolutely have. I mean, there's so much going on today, Nathan. I'm going to start with that fed day that you just mentioned. It's simply that we have this kind of sell the rumor buy the news dynamic in the market. The last two days have been sell off pretty normal ahead of FOMC decisions. If you look at the past fed meetings this year, they've all actually had rallies on the day. The idea here simply being that the market is already kind of pricing in exactly what the Federal Reserve is going to tell us and right now they're pricing in 75 basis points on the table for today. The question is going to be what they indicate about the next meeting is 75 basis points on the table for November. Nevertheless to your point, features are up about two tenths of 1%. But you're all right, all the action is in the commodity space, check this out. You actually have oil features, the Brent contracts at 92 handle, nymex 86, but the read through into the stock market is the names like ExxonMobil. XOM is your ticker up 1.3%. A similar story with Chevron CVX is your ticker there. No shares up 1.3%. Once again, the idea here being that if you start to have this kind of amping up of forces in the Ukrainian Russian war at the moment, then that is going to further delay any sort of progress on the natural gas front on the oil front, et cetera, and that, of course, creates a little bit more demand pushing those prices just a little bit higher. What I will say is they've kind of been in that range all week though, the 80s, early 90s, kind of range. So I wouldn't be too worried about it just yet, but you can still see that there are some nerves built into the market. Nathan, the other place that a lot of people don't think to look is defense stocks. So think Lockheed Martin, for example, LMT is your taker up a whopping 2.6% today. A similar story when it comes to Boeing shares, BA is your ticker. But they're actually down three tons of 1%, but keep an eye on that because it tends to move in tandem with Lockheed Martin. And when we talk about defense, it's not just about things like artillery or military equipment. It's also things about cybersecurity. Remember Russia has a major edge in terms of cybersecurity. So names like Palo Alto networks is going to be a name that comes to mind PA and W the shares are up about one tenth of 1% today, a tiny bump there. You're going to see a similar one with a company like datadog, for example, once again, these are all cybersecurity companies also up one tenth of 1%. So keep an eye on that, we might see a little bit of an acceleration as we go into the U.S. market open. Yeah, and it could be interesting to see whether we get any more movement with the UN General Assembly underway as well, whether we get the reaction to Putin's comments from President Biden when he addresses the gathering in New York later this morning. We'll have that for you live, the president. Speaking at the UN General Assembly, just around ten 30 Wall Street time. So keep it right here on Bloomberg radio for that. Bloomberg radio and TV market score spotted pretty Gupta, as always, thanks for the pre market update looking at stocks as a whole. Ahead of the open and the fed decision, S&P futures up 7 points now futures up 72, NASDAQ futures

"Giant Carlos Stanton. Swing on drew the date run. That ball is gonna be done a Grand Slam to win the game. No one out bases loaded Grand Slam bottom of the 9th and the Yankees have come back in the 9th inning with 5 runs to win the game 9 8. WWF and the call stand had been zero for three with three strikeouts and since coming off the injured list last month, he was 9 for 72 with 30 strikeouts. Metz had a big Grand Slam in their own Francisco Lindor's 7th inning, giving the mets a 7 5 win in Milwaukee. They had tied the game and in the earlier on a pita Alonso three run shot Atlanta one again, braised Clint to playoff spot. They stay one game behind the mets. They're even in the lost column. Cleveland took a big step towards winning the Yale central 5 runs in the 11th to meet the White Sox ten 7 and go up by 5 games. John stash there were Bloomberg sports, Nathan. John, thanks.
