If you wanted to figure out your most popular episodes how would you go about doing that. They might be wondering why this is important and it's while it's important for a for a number of reasons. I think i is just putting together. Well putting your best foot forward. I should say for brand new listeners. Podcasting reliance on reverse chronological order listing of our episodes means that the newest episode is the episode that has heard most often by brand new people and that may not be your best episode. Heck it might not even be an episode that is indicative of what a good episode for your podcast is or even might even not even be an episode of your podcast at all if you knew which episodes were most popular for your listeners. You'd have a nice start here collection to brand new listeners. That'd be cool. Idea would be assembling a collection to submit to awards competitions. You know doing it with the single episode isn't great. And even if you are creating a customized recuperating out your single episode that samples from other episodes of your show. It's not a good way to tell whether your podcast is good bad or indifferent right. It's just not the right. Feel however if you had a collection of episodes i know say. Three episodes five episodes ten episodes. Whatever that you could then submit that group to the awards committee. They in turn could make much much more informed decision on whether your podcast is. You know the whole podcast is worthy of an award. We're not you know that also might encourage some innovation with the podcast listening apps out there. Just think how popular best of or greatest hits collections are for music. You know we can do the same thing for podcasts. Really we could go through figure out which are the best episodes and then give them to a brand new listener that new listener then listens to your best dove collection. And here's the cool part when they get to the end of the best of collection if they get all the way to the end then they're then they're subscription automatically switches over to the main show feed and they start picking up new episodes right away because now they're in they went through all their invested. That'd be kinda cool but back to my question. How would you go about doing that. Would you base it on downloads. Well you know. I suppose that's a start. I think we put way too much emphasis on downloads and a goodly number of those downloads are automated. So i'm skeptical but still it's a start and in fact earlier this week i heard that some of the more forward-thinking podcast hosting companies are in early discussions to collect this information with obviously the podcast permission. Clearly but then somehow take that information of what the best of this feed is and and then mark that episode inside of the rss feed which what intern allow aggregate irs think directories or apps to actually do something with those marked episodes. Put them further up. Highlight them in some way. Now of course speaking of apps they actually have better data than your podcast hosting company. They actually have play. Data backup. Data rewind skip data all of that stuff so perhaps forward-thinking apps could use their own internal data and blended with this information that these hosting companies are thinking of providing but also what about external factors for popularity podcast episode. Maybe like quantity of shares across social media. That's doable but it's rather processor intensive so this might be a service that an existing social monitoring service could offer to podcasters though. It's going to be a challenge to associate the various links. They get shared right. You're you're linked to your page linked to the media for that episode. Is it a player. Created link is a deep link to a directory that someone is actually sharing. Those who need to be normalized enrolled up together. I wonder what i missed. I missed a few ways. We might figure out what is good and popular for a podcast. If you have ideas on that please shoot me an email. I'm yvo at simpler dot media and let me know if you're a podcast service provider. I'd love to know whether you what what you would do with this data how you could contribute to it or also what you would do with it. If you knew what was most popular out of the podcast. What would you do with that information. That would make your service. "Hello and welcome to another podcast. Pontiff vacations with me yvo tara. I can't think of meeting i've had recently. Where with their client or prospect where. I didn't utter the words. Podcasts tend to get the audience they deserve. It's become sort of an axiom of mine. One that represents my overarching worldview podcasting. If you will. I've heard many other podcasting. Pundits say something along. The lines of podcasting is a slow. Burn or need to be in this for the long haul. And while i agree with those statements those all come with a presumption that success is inevitable. Well you and. I know it's not so at the risk of being depressing. Not my goal. Let's return to my axiom. Podcasts tend to get the audience. They deserve and unpack that for a moment. What does it mean is if you build it. They will come. I mean they might but they might not that axiom also does not mean that you can market your way into great success. I mean that might work for you but it also might not. so what is it about. Well i that phrase. Podcasts tend to get the audience they deserve is first about your podcast. Not you the podcast. Her now yes. You are. Inexorably wound together with your podcast. I get that but for this axiom to work. We need to take the person the you out of it and look at the product. The thing that you're making the product is the pod. The podcast is the product. Brought up is the podcast and that is what people will or will not decide to make a part of their life so does content matter. Well of course it. Does you know but content is a broad topic. It means a lot of things. Does the sound quality good. That's a good question for you or for your show is the sound quality exceptional are the conversations are having or the things we're talking about. Is that does that good or those conversations. Riveting is the packaging of the content. That means the episode itself. The show itself your website. All supporting properties is the packaging pretty good or is it done with the utmost care.

"I'm going to offer up a curated list of my own. Not just me but of the people who i feel are pushing podcasting forward on twitter. I call this list. My podcast pulse. Because that's the idea. Keep your finger on the pulse of what's happening in podcasting now. If you don't use twitter okay. You don't use twitter. I'm not here to convince you to use twitter but if you do use twitter you can follow this. A hundred eleven or so people. All of them to varying degrees published content on twitter. That these serious podcasters should know about. But i will remind you that it is twitter and twitter users like me do in fact use twitter for putting out more than just one thing so not everything you're going to see is going to be all podcasting all the time i don't recommend turning on notifications unless you're that crazy person but i do recommend checking the list against called podcast pulse from time to time just so you can see what's shaking and what people in who are also shaking and podcasting are thinking about at the moment again. I'll have a link to that in the episode notes or you can go to my twitter profile. Yvo tara and select view lists and look for podcast. Pulse right there now. Here's the deal. I know i missed a few. I probably missed a lot. But i've only got a limited amount of time to do these episodes when needed to keep it concise. However i do have room to listen to or read more podcasting content specifically podcasting content. That's created to make podcasters better podcasters and to create ultimately serious podcasts. So what did i miss..

Haitian Government Asks Biden Administration to Pause Mass Deportations

"The haitian government is asking the biden administration to pause mass deportations of migrants back to haiti amid a surge of haitian migrants crossing the rio grande river river. Nbc news correspondent. Morgan chaska got exclusive access to the southern texas encampment. These migrants are now calling home. These are the men women and children calling the shade of texas border bridge. Whole the group. Mostly from haiti. Now number nearly fifteen thousand strong. They've come here with little hoping to claim asylum and turn launching a massive mission for state and federal agencies secure. The border provide and process every single person over the last few days we moved approximately thirty three hundred individuals. We expect that number to increase in the days ahead. Our crew granted exclusive access to visit with those whose futures remain uncertain. This woman named yvo telling us she's been here more than a week and his barely eaten for many. They're only nourishment the food and water handouts. That can't come fast enough now has been only a matter of days since this group's swelled in size underneath the bridge but as we push this direction you can see that there is already a small city that has formed here in the shadow out this rich plants from the riverbank being used in some cases as temporary roofs as children playing the shade. Everyone trying to do whatever they can to stay cool. Massive accusations along the border began this morning. Some planes flying migrants from san antonio direct to port-au-prince haiti others are being bused to other processing locations. Such as paso laredo. Those flown home today returned to a country still reeling from a devastating earthquake. Deportation flights only expected to arrive in the coming

"Welcome to another podcast quantifications with me yvo tara productivity prioritization and podcasting. I say this. Not because. I like liberation although i really do like alliteration but because it's what we hear all the time and generally speaking i tend to agree with that. There are lots of things that you can waste your time on as a podcast. And there's no shortage of top ten things to improve gross. Lash blow up your podcast and you may not be doing all of those things and in fact you're probably not doing most of those things you also. You only have a limited amount of time every single day or week or month to invest in your podcast. When you're not actually podcasting. Charlie takes up a whole lot of your time. So yeah prioritize because you productivity needs.

"Hello and welcome to another podcast. Quantifications with me yvo tara. We need to talk about ip addresses. But don't worry this is not a technical conversation. you're a podcast not a developer. Or maybe you're both. I don't really know but for right now i'm talking to you as a podcast or so as long as you can spell. Ip this episode is for you. Let me explain. Just for a second. I got an analogy. I got an analogy to explain. What an ip address is think of an ip address as if it was a blind dog. Whose job is to bark every time a new visitor comes into the shop. I know that's kind of weird but a blind dog that barks when new people come into the shop is the best way. I can think of to describe. Ip addresses now. This dog sits by the door and he can hear people come in. He knows in the doors open. He can hear the footsteps around him but he can't actually see the people that dog is using smell and when he recognizes a new smell of a new person he barks now some people smell like maybe they're in the same family so he would not bark even though three or four minutes exactly the same or maybe they all rode together on a giant tour bus for hours on end and they all smell the same. He gave me the only going to bark once when he hears that smell. Here's that smell when he smells those people now. Of course they're blind counting dog. Gets this wrong a lot but least directionally. It's right now. Losing ip address in this same stick with a metaphor for minimum would be like all of those people suddenly having no sent. That dog can still hear people when they come into. The shop at now has no way to discern whether they're going in or they're going out of the same family or from the same bus. So all i can do is bark. Every time he hears a footstep go past him and he's gonna bark a lot more than it used to because he can no longer discern the differences between these people. Losing ip address in podcasting is kind of the same thing. Your podcast media hosting company will still continue to count traffic downloads. If you will..

"Hello and welcome to another podcast quantifications with me yvo tara generally speaking i'm not a fan of taking shortcuts on your podcasting journey and that's not completely true because i look like you i don't like wasting time for sure and there are a lot of things in podcasting that you can spin your wheels on waste your time on and so yes we also have ways to avoid pitfalls along that complex journey that we have in podcasting and these are pitfalls at trip up many other podcasters there are certainly ways to be much more efficient in the things you do your your during your podcasting process and there are a lot of old and outdated methods and thinkings and myths out there. That just haven't been true in a long time if they were ever true but actual real shortcuts and podcasting. I'm a tad bit skeptical of that. So today i wanna talk about three. I guess gotcha if you will things to watch out for before you glommed onto something. Someone is calling a shortcut in podcasting. The first one of those is look. You still have to know what it is. You're doing or at least why you are doing it. You can't use a shortcut to completely bypass a key piece of podcasting. Think for a minute about. Rss feeds talk about a fair amount here on the program that technically weird looking batch of texts that many podcasts look at and go so and so because of that the majority of podcasters leave the rss feed rightly so by the way to our hosting providers. That's their that's one of the jobs. We pay our monthly fee to a podcast hosting company. So that they generate an r. s. c. s. Feed for us. We don't really wanna hand code our own right assuming that you are reputable. Podcast hosting company is doing what they're supposed to be doing. You don't even know how to read an rss feed probably many people. Don't and that's okay but you should know what the feed does and generally speaking what is in the feed. Because if you don't even know. I know there's an r. s. v. But you know a lot of podcasters are in there not knowing what's going on with anything to do with the podcast. Rss feed so again. He can't bypass it completely. You have to know at least what the thing is what the process is looking like all right second thing. There's the idea that something is better than nothing well. Are you sure that's true because if you're gonna take this shortcut and its promises you do something that is better than nothing. How do you know that better than nothing is actually true..

"You agree like what do you think. Oh i agree. I was thinking about what you were saying. It was really interesting. Because i was remembering reading that. That wasn't the wave. The movie was originally supposed to end or that scene wasn't originally hosted begin Really actually a denzel washington. Everyone involved and the studio to make sure that his character does end up get consequences for his actions. Did not want to send the wrong message of i do this. I'm unstoppable you wanted there to be consequences character's actions. Wow wow this crazy. We'll i like. Okay okay okay. So this is This is a good question so when you think about that does that does that. Make you feel like anything bad on this like. He's trying to show us that. When you're bad you won't survive. You only have a certain length to survive within that bad right but in the end. All the bad that you've done we'll catch up to you and you get you get what's coming to you so to speak. So do you feel like in the world that we live like that stats. The fact like bad people they they'll exist or the bad that they do exist for a certain period of time. But eventually the snot gonna end well for those who are truly back. I believe that. I believe in karma. I feel like the uh devil will use the time. While the person's looks unstoppable and make it by the guy will never have to suffer any consequences but i believe everyone asks what's coming to them eventually. Just get wait for the right timing. I guess yeah. I don't feel true. Yvo lasts long there's longevity and true evil or wreaking havoc on the world that we live you know or towards people like no. That's why the devil needs that. They need people to kind of make those deals with him and be bad because the devil won't survive without that right but again it does pardon user not earth their temporary their temporary so he keeps needing to feed himself for itself to you know to to survive but yeah it nevertheless so yeah i do so also this film deal a lot with living on the streets in the street wise and i'm not very educated about that stuff but.

Yvo tara astute. Listeners will notice that the sound of today's and yesterday's episode is well different mass. Because i'm in san diego. Woo mir steps away from the beach and it's awesome. I did this to escape the heat. Obviously i live in phoenix fulltime. As you know when it's really really hot there but also to recharge. Yeah yeah recharge recharge my sit out and look at the ocean. That is behind me every single day now. Recharging is important to me and also a compromise. I made with myself a few years back. And it's really paying off. I think and that's because i'm no longer trying to do everything or be every where he even though a lot of people really want me to know. Let's use the word. expect me to. I hear people quite often say. I don't know how you do it ego. I don't know how you do the things that you do. I don't know how you publish a daily podcast. That takes up four hours of your time every day. Which is a true statement. I also and you're doing that. You're publishing it in the same day that you are recording it and producing it. That's that's also dumb. That's how do you do that. And then also maintain and run a podcast consultancy which does lots of things for clients all around the world. And that's true. I do all of those things right. Weirdly enough those same people have no trouble offering up a list of other things. They think i should be doing for some expect me to be doing now. Luckily for me. And i'm kind of laughing off is that i'm the kind of person who i really like it when when people approach me with new ideas and new opportunities. And that's because i'm really good at saying no and passing up on opportunities. That aren't that either. Aren't a good fit or would stretch me too thin. Which is more often the case. And that may describe you but it might not for a lot of time. I had a tough time saying no to opportunities and you may be in a similar situation especially if you're relatively new to the podcasting world and your quite smartly trying to increase your luck service area. Something i talked about from time to time which is good. That's smart of you to do that because for you being everywhere and trying to connect with every one if you can't is a great way to network and accelerate your growth as a podcast and true. Yes maybe you're seeing some modest success with your podcasting efforts and you're thinking of investing more time and more energy so you can read more of those rewards once again good for you another smart play or it could be that opportunity just drops in your lap. Sometimes that that's how the universe works on occasion. You know there's a then maybe there's a potential pot of gold or whatever it is it motivates you right over there all you have to do to get it is just do more. Which again if you can and want to do that right. Smart play but there's a chance a good chance that something i said in that last little rant there might have triggered some feelings of anxiety stress insecurity or just full on. Oh shit how. Am i going to get all of this done now. Look feeling some of those. Things is helpful right. There is a kernel of truth in the no pain no gain comment but let me impart another nugget. Another wisdom pearl. If you will opportunity will knock again. It will mean. Sometimes it's the exact same opportunity presenting itself again perhaps you will be in a better place emotionally and mentally to accommodate it then other times. It's a totally different opportunity. One that you could not have fit in to your already busier schedule. If you had rushed to shove in that first opportunity how could you fit that in and this new thing as well occasionally you realize that passing up on an opportunity is in itself as much of an opportunity for you to refocus on your own mental health which will keep you in the podcasting game that much longer. I'm living proof of this. I mean the ability to say no. Thanks no not right. Now is a big part of why. I've been in this game for gosh nearly two decades now insane and i hope to stay in it for the next two with that kind of attitude. Your mental health is just that your health so focus on it just like that. We've gone through another month of podcast pontificating season for thank you for being with me if you found value in any of the thoughts and ideas i presented to you thus far what please return some of that value by going to buy me a coffee. Dot com slash. Ibo tara next week at least as of this recording his podcast movement. And no i will not be joining you in person See everything just talked about in this episode. But i will however see some of you from my living room where i'll be watching. The event virtually blocked off the days for my calendar. "Leedle less also so utilizes think of that is like the android of the edge. Same thing the moment you pick one operating system for iot or edge computing urawa bunch of people so the flossy with yvo as highly curated to support many different types of deployment models whether their legacy absent virtual machines or containers want us just very very focused on building out common building blocks. But dr open. Api's that then you can build a whole bunch of commercial value around you know you written a talked about the fight over standards that to merging or device comporting boarding. That's another example where y- building trust through a supply chain. You need to have standards around. How do you onboard devices. That are clouded mastic. Same thing as you can still build really great solutions around that that you monetize but that core plumbing is more standard. Got it okay. That's a lot about the whole. It ot convergence friendship that sort of thing. Let's talk about some of the more fun things that we can do. As we as we deal with this convergence i think as we add more sensors to our operations. So here's where we're going to talk about machine learning at the edge because uh so excited about it so you guys are thinking a lot about that. I believe what are your customers trying to do in. Why are they trying to do so much at the edge. Actually tell us why. They're keen on the edge and then we'll talk about what they're trying to do with machine learning there when it comes to edged competing in general the the the driving factor that we see the most bandwidth savings a lot of people. Talk about latency As the reason to do as computing your reaction time but the reality is if you're doing mission. Critical of latent critical workloads latency. I mean it's an narrow you're going to do it on you know you never gonna deploy your airbag from the cloud you no matter how faster pride g. network is but so we c band with and that's where you. Ai at the edge in terms of driving like filtering of data is only meaningful events are sent back computer vision. Definitely the killer app for edge and so we're seeing a lot of folks coming to us that you know wanting to play am l. models out for computer vision and certainly their safety and security like you kinda spinoffs from surveillance and object depiction license plate recognition and stuff like that. We're seeing more and more people come to us around like contact. 'cause contactless checkout. These different computer vision enabled kiosks for your point of sale. That's been a trend for sure. Things around worker safety. And of course there was the whole social distancing thing that people using Video for these types of reasons. We're seeing people come to us from an edge standpoint but used to sit at the machine learning but We see a whole gamut of other use cases okay and that makes tons of sense and how many of these use cases do you see like when i think about a video camera for example. There's lots you can do with it. But you know if you're going to run something at the edge so on the video camera itself you're probably limited to like a smaller model so maybe you can recognise seven things as opposed to eighty things rate. So how are people thinking about the jobs they wanna do in thinking about like how many algorithms and how far out those things can live to some extent it makes sense. I mean so starters. Yeah some cameras. They're going to be highly constrained. This is you know. of course you know. You've been following. Tiny m allen is a hot topic now. But i mean we're also seeing you know cameras themselves getting smarter and smarter. I mean there's cameras. Now you'll forget the memory and you know a multiple core processing and and you can run fairly capable influencing models out there and then you see these tiered architectures where you've got you know smart cameras and then some compute immediately upstream. I mean look at stuff. Like like amazon goes stores or you things like that where you're doing very very low. Latency computer vision stuff right there. And everybody's got a server behind every camera so we're definitely seeing a broad range of capabilities. Deploying being played out in the field but the the biggest challenge that we're seeing for folks in general is how do you you worker straight all that. How do you great and you do it in the lab and you you kinda figure out party of view but hattie scale that. It's a massive challenge right now in terms of getting models out there versus doing it in a centralized cloud environment. So is it a function of sending the like having the right models at all of the hundreds of thousands of cameras. Is it checking the. Yeah how do you do version control. Make sure you're you've got the right model out there. We're talking with folks that do likes computers. And as i mentioned computer vision For kind of meal checkout and as they change recipes you've gotta constantly update those models and to make sure you've done that reliably at scale. You know there's different tools you need to understand for drift. Is lighting changes camera angles chain. It's not controlled because know this case you're doing stuff in the physical world where things change. You're using a on structure data in the back the back end. You don't have that it's a different kind of drifts that he might experience so you've got to accommodate for things to change in the physical world and it just it's just different. Sounds excruciatingly difficult very difficult easier. Easier said than in practice with. I mean there's obviously upset to you have to really think about the mechanics of scale okay. We're all probably accustomed to the types of things you need to think about when you're scaling out in the cloud right so if i think about building a data center at scale and building apps on that i kind of know what that architecture looks like when we talk about doing it in a distributor way in updating it every two weeks or so and maybe that's too often that's not often enough. What are the kind of considerations you need to have. I mean provided you gotta be able to do everything remotely. Obviously it's doing mcleod. You've got people here by that data center and get them and they can't do it remotely from a console. They can just you physically go there but we were working with people that are doing stuff out on wind turbines out in the middle of nowhere and it would cost of a helicopter and truck roll and all that it could be fifty thousand dollars to go touch so you know you need really really reliable remote access. You need to make sure that it's built on a foundation that you can't brick. During an update so literally make device a brick. You have to physically replace it. And that's why you need to be thinking about how you deploy stuff from kind of a architecture that taps deep into the hardware itself not just like grab. Noah's put it on there and throw some containers. There you know hope for the best wants to tyler distributed you need architect it to be super super reliable. You know so then. I'll just the mechanics of supporting devops and in a way. That's very very remote You've got to be thinking about mixture of skill sets types of folks that are in a very distributed you know architecture that spans kind of the ot world to that you will not all like heavy on it. Certifications gotta make things really simple. It's a lot of these different challenges. You just don't see when it's kind of an entirely in an it domain data center. Exactly and i would. I would add to that this idea that. In a data center you're dealing with a lot more you and uniformity. Like you've got a chassis. Scutt set set sizes for everything in the real world. Your actual deployments aren't in uniform spaces like one wind turbine might look different than another. You might have like a retail store. That has you know one kind of refrigerator. Case that you're deploying sensors into and then another one in different retail store. I mean there's there's a lot a boggles my mind. It makes me my head. It's it's painful the closer you get to the physical world..

"Leedle less also so utilizes think of that is like the android of the edge. Same thing the moment you pick one operating system for iot or edge computing urawa bunch of people so the philosophy with yvo as highly curated to support many different types of deployment models whether their legacy apps and virtual machines or containers want us just very very focused on building out common building blocks. But dr open. Api's that then you can build a whole bunch of commercial value around. You know you written a talked about the fido standard that to merging or device comporting boarding. That's another example where y- building trust through a supply chain. You need to have standards around. How do you onboard devices. That are clouded mastic. Same thing as you can still build really great solutions around that that you monetize but that core plumbing is more standard. Got it okay. That's a lot about the whole. Ot convergence friendship that sort of thing. Actually tell us why they're keen on the edge and then we'll talk about what they're trying to do with machine learning there. Yeah when it comes to edge competing in general the the the driving factor that we see the most bandwidth savings a lot of people talk about latency as the reason to do as computing. You your reaction time but the reality is if you're doing mission. Critical kind of latent critical workloads latency. I mean there's an errand you're gonna do it on brand never gonna deploy your airbag from the cloud you no matter how faster pride g. network is but so we c band with and that's where you ai. At the edge in terms of driving like filtering of data is only meaningful events are sent back computer vision. Definitely the killer app for edge. And so we're seeing a lot of folks coming to us that you know wanting to play am l. models out for computer vision and certainly their safety and security like you kinda spinoffs from surveillance and object depiction license plate recognition and stuff like that. Of course you've been following tiny. I'm alan is a hot topic now. But i mean we're also seeing you know cameras themselves getting smarter and smarter. I mean there's cameras. Now you'll forget the memory and you know multiple core processing and and you can run fairly capable influencing models out there and then you see these tiered architectures where you've got you know smart cameras and then some compute immediately upstream. "Yvo tara. The first week of season four of podcast onto is complete on her will be in a few minutes. You get any end of this episode. Thanks so much for sticking with me. While i took a much needed break as i always do in the summertime between seasons. Now for you. Who have been listening to podcasts pontificators. For some time now you have likely notice some changes already one of them quite trivial but something i like to do and others more foundational. Let's get the trivial. The small thing out of the way first and then we'll jump into the more important things Brand new theme music. Did you notice. Of course you noticed brand new theme music and if you've listened to this for a while now because this is the fourth season you will know that i've changed the music podcast on depictions. This is the fifth change five to only four seasons. How'd you do that well. Because i did one kind of midseason so yeah big changes. Let's let's go back in the way. Back machine Here's the first little bit of bed music. You probably heard way back in the day. And i occasionally pull that out from time to time. I'm doing things that was for the very first thing. And then i went to. That was fun for season. One season two was everybody liked. And i did too but then season three was which i still here in my head every single time. I do that. The recording of the cold open Which brings us to where we are. Angry birds yeah. I like that jazzy. And funky and what. I've done with that new one is i've actually extended out. There's a full track. That i have now and plays all the way through the new altro which you probably have also noticed something different on the show. That wasn't there before so that's fun. Oh and by the way. No i do not recommend changing up your theme music every season or time. Really i mean look also branding is important to building your audience so that they know what they're in for a and especially an audience. That has no idea who you are. Getting too flippant with the music can really be a detriment to you audio. Branding is super important hugely important. In podcasting to be honest. I sort of picked all of the different theme music for this show at the last minute without really giving it a whole heck of a lot of thought so i don't recommend doing that instead. If you really want to do music the right way. I highly recommend you should choose theme music that is created by a spoke composer that you're working with. I've done that for other shows. Some of mine. Own some clients where we work i worked directly and the client works directly with the composer and we come up with a really cool piece of music properly. Encapsulates the overall. That's the best way to do it. It's not an inexpensive way to do it. But that in my opinion is the best way i think to really do your your theme music right all right enough for the trivial type stuff. Let's get in the more of the foundational changes shall we. You've probably also noticed something at the top of the show. It's an ad. Oh my god Ego you said no ads. What we didn't really say no as i don't run ads but right after the cold. Open right before the intro. There's a house at two house ad and by the way. Thank you very much too many listeners. Who have signed up to that. You are l. Given in that house add proving that it works sorta right. i mean clearly. It's me asking for something that's part of the show. I totally get it but and thank you very much to them. The reason you're hearing that ad at the top of the program is i'm implementing something that brian barletta from sounds. Profitable your readings ounce profitable right. You know that. I'm helping edit sounds profitable so you should be reading. Sounds profitable anyhow Brian wrote about it this week as a week of this recording in his weekly newsletter the article is entitled. Never let an ad slot go empty. Which i highly recommend you should actually read. It's very good if you're running ads right now but if you're not running ads as i was running ads. It will still spark some ideas. Brian writes about a pretty complex ad tech stack to blend all sorts of ads together by complicated. I i don't mean that the technology itself is complicated. it's actually quite straightforward to set this up. It's just that for me and perhaps for you. Selling ads isn't a top priority for my show so i didn't go through the complexity of figuring out where the ad inventories coming from. But that doesn't mean that. I'm not making that ad spot available i am. I'm viewing that spot as a potential for collaboration with a few of my other longtime listeners to help spread some of the awareness of the cool things they are doing in podcasting. I'm all about making podcasting better. Many of the people who listen this program are also about making podcasting better or have products or services or ideas. That makes podcasting better. So we're still hashing out the details between me and the folks who wanna do some collaboration but look. I thought it was important. As as brian tells us to start off the season with that adds spot running. So you're not surprised when you hear. Other things dropped down in that petition in that position or perhaps even another positions and yes. That spot is available to you. If you wish to collaborate with me to simply get in touch with me yvo at simpler dot media and we'll set up a time to chat about your idea and how we might collaborate together now with that. That's not the end of the changes. You're going to see. Or i guess here or even read with podcast pontiff vacations the season or even with me i. I looked at the calendar just before coming on air. And there are fifteen more weeks is roughly sixty episodes. I might take a day off here and there. That's just the first half of season four. And i'm going to be making incremental changes to podcast pontificators along the way so listen closely and be sure again. Sign up for podcast pontificating in your inbox. That's where i will email you a quick little note Every time a new episode comes out as well as other changes. Ppi why is the best place to go. So you're never going to miss a thing that's happening with podcast quantifications. Now if you like the changes or you just want to help ensure that. I keep doing the things that i do bringing you. I'm tara with your minute of pods then. A lot of attention is directed at the top. One hundred or just pick a number lists of most popular podcasts. But i've a cryptic message for you. No one listens to all the top one hundred most popular podcasts. All the shows on those lists are popular and have many rabid fans. I'm just saying that. No one listens to all of them in fact no one listens to most of them. If you're a total up the hours every podcast listeners spins listening you'd find the hours spent listening to shows not in the top one hundred would greatly exceed the time spent listening to those in the top one hundred. That's the long tail. It occurs in just about every large data set and isn't talked about enough and the true power of podcasting lies in that long tail. Not the short head podcast. Which was shows up in the top. One hundred most popular lists are often quite successful. Some lieblich lifestyles. Many are able to pay their bills with podcasting. "You're listening to sounds profitable because podcast ad tech is important to you but it's important to me that you are kept up to date on the latest news from the entire podcast industry to help with that. Here's what happened last week. No matter when you're listening from james cridland at pod news thank you. Brian sounds profitable as the weeks. Paul kopke's from news dot net good news for coupon codes episode notes. It's being used by dunkin on music streaming services and does google occasionally think it knows the address of your podcast. Rss feed better than you do. Stupid human. You can now tell. Google your preferred rss feed and it won't change and that's the latest from your daily briefing. Newsletter called news dot net. I've talked with you all before. About how the way we study podcast. Metrics need to evolve and change. I wrote an article on the topic. All about making them more meaningful in that article. I've talked about the l. Intego williams who wrote an awesome piece for neiman lap. Discussing better ways to engage metrics. She was kind enough to come on the show and talk with me about her thoughts on the ways. We should be measuring success. Thank you so much for being here. I'm really excited heavier. We wrote an article a little while back in one of the main focuses was about not just looking at downloads looking at other metrics in wrote like a really killer article for nieman lab something. I wasn't super familiar with. When i kicked off problem so i want to turn over like tell everybody a little bit about your article and demon labs and what your goal was with that sure i will. Thanks for having me. I love talking shop with you. Your resign and your own. Thank you so. I genuinely believe and i think now. Of course four years have actually proven that the download is kind of useless as a measure of success. Then i think you agree at the armed. Smart people casting agree. It's like the emperor has no clothes kind of thing. And so i had just been a passive -ly other measurements for our shows over months and then neiman invited the invite a bunch of people at the end of the year to write an opinion. And i thought a if there is any marriage what you've been obsessing about for the last six or seven months put it down on paper and they share it so that people can scrutinize it right. Because i'm a journalist and so that's really where you test your idea in the public arena and so limited that i was petrified and i have never actually said that but i was absolutely petrified. What was a great article though. Thank you so much really appreciate that. I thought you notice so this is business. This is such a giveaway. But you'll notice that. I started with Anecdote about my kids. Because i was like let me. Soften it up because you hate someone who taught me about kids. Read y y. I used my son in my podcast. It's just like yeah. You might not like it but you're still gonna give me those five stars right now going to hate them someone who's loving talking about chess with her kids right so a me to start right there and then it was actually true like i do believe that. The real actionable measurable mighty measurement is the listen through rate. Because that's what tells you how sticky your show is. That's what tells you how long people are hanging out with your stuff. That's literally what tells you win. They lose interest in the show. And so we've been tracking are listening to the rains pretty consistently for over a year at that point and then of course we started to try and influence them right as we try to do that. We try to put really interesting things at the end of the shows and kind of tease them. At the top of the show we started to cut five minutes ten minute. Intervals into several shows leading to latino went from being to forty five minutes to being thirty to thirty five minutes to them being twenty five to thirty minutes. Because i saw the incremental you know five percents six percent eight percent growth every time. We did that to the show because what was happening was that we of course Dob introducing podcasting to our latinas Audience than they went. Invite a bunch of other podcasts. To so you know we were the gateway and then they went and found so many other wonderful podcasts that were for them and so we kinda like realize okay. We have to stay competitive right. If we want to remain one of their favorite shows this is part of how to do it. The other thing that a good listen to rate allows you to do. Is it really gives you more flexibility in terms of your ads right. Because i can say listen. I've listeners all the way through two minute. Twenty two so. I can spread out your ads. We can drop a trailer. He are like. There's so many things that i can do because i know that eighty percent of my show is being listened to so there's just so many pluses to going with a listen through rate versus a download because of living is that people don't talk about honestly down with a sixty seconds worth of audio and so and wrote about how you can play less than ten. You can play a second of an episode of your wi fi and download a ninety seconds counting as an ab download. I mean that's the thing to focus on the download metric and how we count. It was brought to us by the interactive advertising bureau. Right so that's cool. In all and the intent there is to create a lowest common denominator that everybody can match around and then we can sell to to the greater advertising space. But you hit on something really. Clever mean like getting around download hasn't opened up the tens and hundreds of billions of dollars that other advertising channels. So the truth of it is yeah. It's a great metric when you need to use it but there's a skill level where you surpass having to use it and for internal growth download. Numbers aren't difficult. You wanna double your download numbers. Yvo tara gave me this example. Just double the number of shows you put out a month and boom. You're download numbers have doubled so that listen through rate is really clever. You mentioned that you brought like a forty five minute. Showdown homeless to twenty five minutes over over about six months. Did that allow you to create twice as much content or did you just refine.

"To two oh hey look. It's a microphone back in my face again and for you. It's the sound of yvo coming into your ears. Hello no it is not yet time for season four of podcast pontificators to begin very close very close like really soon. It's coming out like on july. The twelfth of twenty twenty one. That's right i'll be back on. July twelfth twenty twenty one with season. Four of podcast pontificators prior to that. However i want you to listen to this. This is a guest episode of podcast. Pontificators done by mr york campbell. He's got something to say some lessons. You can learn from audio drama. So give your listen. Here's three tips. He has to say. And i'll be back very soon again on july twelfth. Twenty twenty one brand new episodes of podcast on two occasions. Season for cheers audio drama techniques. Can improve your podcast. Hello and welcome to another podcast. Pontificate reasons with me york campbell. Filling in for yvo tara. I feel that audio dramas. Their life the rodney dangerfield of podcasting meeting. They get no respect. I am podcast writer and also producer app reduced to audio dramas. one is called poetic earthlings. And the other most precious commodity. I feel that a lot of podcasters. They don't really think too much about audio dramas when everything of podcasting. What first comes to mind. Politics may be current events sports technology those type of things be know audio dramas zipping around a very long time. It predates eve and tv. Remember those old shows. I mean there's with dragnet. There's superman the catheter round the radio. I'm sure you've seen those pictures. Before of the old-fashioned huge radio and the family is just gathered around it listening to their favorite shows. That's the power of of audrius even if you do not write or produce audio dramas. There's a lot to be learned from it. I to give you three different things. The first one is attention to detail audio dramas. The are obsessed when it comes to detail a sound quality has to be just right the sound effects the sound bed and all of the technical things is always on point as never by chance whenever they produce their show if there is one word or his one phrase. That's a little bit. Not the greatest. The edited out too often. You hear shows where the announcer sneezes or coughs a lotta times. I hear his show. And the cell phone rings in the studio rather than editing out the cellphone or the sneezes the coughs they just leave it in. Sounds kinda sloppier right. Doesn't it sound sloppy to you if you hear a host. And he's just coughing and hacking away. Can he at least just take time and just edited out or when you hear a podcast her. That's kind of rambling on and on and hopefully i'm not one of those podcasters. Couldn't she just take the time. And just edit out all the rambling. Well that's what the trauma podcasters. They're they're really good about that. There could at the attention to detail. I think that could help us out as well. Also there's direction and focus by the way this is step number two if you're following along direction the focus has a big thing. I can't stand podcasters. That gal no microphone and they have no idea the direction of the show. I don't wanna call anyone out. But i was listening to this one. Podcast recorded a little bit of a snippet for you. I'm just gonna play it so that you could see where i'm getting at so here. We go yo. Yo welcome to the show I'm big jim. your they're tiny gem. Asked me your tiny. Jim young man. Well whatever so we gotta show that we're going to like drop on you today and and Yes that's right mad. I don't know where do you want to take the show like so many different directions. No real do you think it'd be interested in that. Like what like what about that. That thing that united last last week you remember the thing. We can't drop the ball. Man man i it's up to you like okay. We got different topics right. Oh yeah okay. We got so many things book. What about the theater thing or okay. So like what about. We started the lightning rod. You got that shoot up. Man you got that latin hula hula hula. You okay okay. Come on that. But where's that but it's not working. We okay whatever So okay i guess you know man we could start off with the thing we can talk about my. I my my new called. We got that could see. This show lacks direction and focus. They have all the energy. I like their spunk. Like their enthusiasm but when you listened to this show you have no idea where they can be talking about. Are they going to be talking about a movie that somebody saw. I think he said that he went to the theater or the be talking about a new car. What is the purpose of the show. This is other show that i used to listen to and the tag line. Is they talk about everything. You can't talk about everything. That's way too vague. So the audio dramas. They don't do that. They always have a focus number three on our list is unfolding a story audio dramas. A great for that. I mean is built right into. It is an audio drama. You're listening to a story. And the story has intrigued hashian as like a strip. Tease is like an onion healing layer after layer. Until you get to the nucleus. There's a lot to be learned from listening to a good story. In fact if you want to be a very good podcast. Her doesn't matter the genre that you're in. Listen to an audio drama. A very good one. See how they bring you in with a good story. They don't reveal everything upfront by the lay bread crumbs for you to follow. I wouldn't you get there when you get to the end as always satisfying so. That's about it. Why we need to do is only to pay attention to detail direction and focus and also unfolding story. If you want to check out my stories. I produce to shows who added girth links and also most precious commodity. You can go to my website. Olympic earthlings dot com evil will be back in july twenty twenty one with yet. Another podcast on vacations.

Evofem To Launch On-Demand Contraceptive

"Today we're GonNa talk about a company that is trying to commercialize a female contraceptive and the company's called Yvo FEM and their product is called sexy and it's going to be launched actually in the next few days. So I wanNA talk about them as the main story, and then we're going to start with some updates from Gilead O'Donnell as well as bio Merrin and actually we got some news from Amarin today that I'm GonNa touch on just very very briefly because I haven't. Totally incorporated it into my portfolio yet, but we did see some dramatic news from them. So with that, let's get going and the first thing I want to talk about is the Gilead, news that we heard and what we found out is that they were issued a complete response letter for the approval of Phil God's Nib, which was their treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. So, this is a bit of a surprise I would say and Phil God was going to be something that replaces revenue streams that are slowly starting to fall off a patent for Gilliat and they're gonNA start to feel that in the form of loss of revenue and forgotten it was kind of shoe into get approved by the FDA issued them this complete response letter saying that they will not approve the drug unless certain conditions are met and usually when companies receive Sierra L. either it's unconditional in the sense that they don't have any recourse or it has conditions on it and hear what we. Found out that the FDA wanted more data from their face, three Manta and Manta Ray studies before completing its reviewed, the NBA and they're specifically concerned about issues in male sex organs. So Gilead is going to have to provide this data, the FDA before they will approve it, and it looks like from what I looked very briefly on the clinical trials dot Gov site is that the primary completion date isn't until early twenty, twenty one where they final completion date of twenty, twenty four. Now Juliette is pre savvy. So I feel like they'll be able to eventually overcome these hurdles once they provide some data. So I. don't see it being long long-term hindrance of the company, but we've seen the stock get hammered pretty hard since the glory days of remedy severe and in general has been kind of slow to adopt new therapies to their pipeline in order to maintain that growth that people expect. So hopefully, with the approval of Fil gone, they'll be able to replace those drugs that are falling off of patent and be able to maintain their value that way. But personally no position for me from Gilead but I thought it was interesting to point this APP. Nasr Company. I WanNa talk about is by Merrin, and they are trading at a fourteen billion dollar market cap now, and they were also issued a complete response letter for Rock Avian and this was their hemophilia, a gene therapy and I've touched on Hemophilia A and. A number of different videos but I haven't touched the topic in a while. I did notice the CRO though and it's interesting because the conditions that the FDA wanted in order to approve the drug was evidence from two years of data for its ongoing phase three trial to support the durability of the gene therapy. So this is obviously kind of rough for the company because the bar is rarely set this high for other companies that two year window of therapy is going to be maintained. This has me questioning the gene therapy space as a whole that you know other companies that have invested in say route Jenex bio if they're going to have to show two years of data to show that it is a Gerbil effect, this obviously plays into the models and delays the time at which it's GonNa take for them to get revenue. So kind of. makes. Me Nervous about the gene therapy space but you know different diseases seem to have different thresholds for what the FDA wants and it's tough to predict. So thought it was worth bringing up and just for those who are actually following by man, their last phase three patient will complete two years of follow up in November twenty, twenty, one, serve you're expecting revenue from this drug. Now you're GonNa have to wait until twenty, twenty two proudly see any revenue. So that's a disappointment even though the drug does help us significant number of patients. All right. Moving on I WANNA touch on otani therapeutics ticker symbol od T, and they're trading now at around five hundred, seventy, four, million dollar market cap for those that don't remember I, touched on this a while ago they were short candidate that I had once I seemed like they had a run up in the stock for no obvious reason, and then I sold it off in anticipation of run up to this event that we just saw news to, and they're commercializing a tax seen that is given orally. So right now has to be given IV in a lot of complications surrounding that a lot of hurdles that patients he'd go through to get this. Treatment and it's Kinda tedious. So if he can come up with an oral version, it would be much better for patients and that's what Oh Donald Trump do here. So what we heard is that their face three contessa trial achieved primary endpoint and what they were looking at is test attacks will their drug plus bean compared to just capital being alone, and the results showed that the progression free survival was significantly better in the tax will plus Kapustin group rather than just cap aside to being alone nine point eight months versus six point nine months with a hazard ratio of zero point seven to just pretty good and value point zero, zero three.

Sexual abuse allegations surface in fighting game community

"Once again, not the happiest of weeks when it comes to sports, I'm just. I'm going to be real with the listeners here new age. Not The happiest of weeks we had an ups and downs right like after it. I say weeks. It feels like it's been weeks since our last episode with all the news that broke and. A couple of days. We've basically seen whole gaming community after we did A. Lovely Documentary Review. I felt like on one of the best documentaries I've seen right the smash brothers a lot of fun to do that in watch it in and then to see all of this as like well. That community just killed itself off essentially now. with on I'm sure with you know. Obviously. News is changing every single day. It does look like it's more of the ultimate side. It seems like it's more of the new school. Kids and not so much the crowd, so maybe we'll give him that. Maybe that's just me with my Malay glasses on like i. just want those guys to be good I. Don't want them to be pedophile and shit like that, but that's what gets me right. Is We finish the show? Last episode. I mean it was more so just kind of still talking about sexual assaults around like counter strike in things like that, and like we said like what do we say like with doc? Right is look sexual assault or sexual assault. You never want to see it. You never do, but if in this world there's going to be bad thing so if you have to pick one like. Make it to where it's? And it's just you know whatever I don't WanNa. See Pet of I. DON'T WANNA. See Pedophile. That's where I get emotional. It's where I'll get upset and it's not really fun to talk about and Lo and behold the FCC was like. Hold my controller. Watch this and it's like you. You saw one story news and you're like. shed. That's bad, and then like another one came after you're like. ooh, that's actually worse like I don't understand like. We've gone from words to action all of a sudden. Words are bad enough. And that it wasn't even like you saw one thing, and like okay, and then it was like everyone would tweet like. Oh well, this person knew about it. That person knew about like everyone in the smash scene, and the fighting game seemed kind of loosely knew all of this was going on the whole time. But regard for whatever reason ever said anything or never felt like they were in the position to, or they felt like it should have been handled behind closed doors which I'll say this because I've seen some people tweet out about it Richard Lewis. This is like he's loving. This in the sense of he can finally take shots back at the FCC for how they treated him with illeg, which was awful like. We've talked about on the show. Before the way, the FCC response to outsiders, coming in is like the worst I mean hell. We've even seen it trying to get into some of these fighting game events where they're like. No like you guys aren't exclusively talking fighting each sport, so we can't have you in the FTC event, look. Bad about Yvo. Part of that crowd. Reason no reason yeah, so there's there's that, and this is not though in my opinion, even though this episode is pretty much going to solely be focusing on the FTC, I don't think this is an FDIC issue. I don't think it's a smash. Brothers community issue. I just think this is an issue like I. Think there's something that got out of hand in a group of people it's. The numbers are a little bit more staggering, obviously, upwards of fifty people involved and counting right. Yeah, like I mean it feels like it could potentially be the start and I feel like more stories and. victims will come forward, but. It's a little bit. It feels a little bit more prominent to me. In the in the community of FDIC at the moment compared to others like it's been spread out everywhere else you know like it comes to streamers, but streamers are not. Like their their own, also their own community, right big name streamers, so I guess you could say that that community is also flawed in my eyes, but that's not. As surprising just based on like the personalities and all that kind of take place in Edgy, sees kinda known to be like more like socially awkward in. We've set it on the show like I don't think you have to beat around the bush. especially. This time I feel like. If you got your shots, shoot them right. The FCC is weird. And before that was always kind of I said that as a compliment right like almost like. Hey, take it as a compliment, you guys. Are Weird. You really love your anime. You like your firs-. Your neck owes whatever your I get it. I get it put. It's your thing and whatever right? You guys are happy with it. You're weird, but it's okay. That's who they are. Exactly that's that's who they were. They were a different side of e sports. And now it's kind of like. Oh! No now it's weird. It's like the tone on that Tad different with me now where it's like. Okay I. You know as creepy it's. Weird alike it's a full of a bunch of creeps again. It's not everybody so it's not a blanket statement that we're talking about. Here is just the fact that there's so many players accused so many big name players accused. You saw people like in the. Narrow situation in particular like you saw people like. Telling them to do it, you know that the conversation that was leaked the person at blurred out the name, but they were able to figure out who was drawing a blank on that now, but they were like instigating them in like. Saying like yeah, this is like this is how it is like. This is okay. You know in, so you know. A lot of people knew about what was going on behind the scenes. Hell like these events are significantly smaller. These people are always together when they're going to them. Some of these events are like home style events. Still you know and so It just. Leaves a really bad taste in your mouth, because of not only the the high volume of people. It's the people that are involved. They're high profile individuals in I. Think the fact that it seems like the lot of the community knew it was happening. In worked trying to stop it or weren't helping out,

EVO 2020 was cancelled

"Yvo Twenty twenty has been canceled due to various sexual abuse allegations. Yvo Is the biggest annual fighting game tournament in the world, and even with the covid nineteen issues plaguing everyone on the planet. The tournament was soldiering on with plans to make it fully online. Earlier this week, however that all fell apart, and in order to learn more about it, I called on Imran Khan to explain everything Imron. Come into the gaming ride home show again for having me Yvo was canceled. And I just want you to give me the full story. What happened? Why was it canceled? Everything start from the beginning, so ego is the biggest fighting tournament in America Kinda the biggest in the world. There's like some discussion about that at this point, but ego is basically where fighting games have been aspiring to for the last twenty thirty years and listening started in the ninety S. This year, obviously because of covid kit have their usual Mandalay Bay Las Vegas big gathering of fighting game players. So this year they ended up canceling I place. Eve Online Eve online was a different thing where the. Mainly, got games together with like Netco like mortal Kombat eleven and them fighting her indie game that was originally based on my little pony, but basically it was A. It has to evolve brand that could stay around despite not being the big mass gathering tournament that they expect over the last couple of weeks. There's been a bigger. industry-wide movement to out sexual predators in gaming and the gaming industry, and some companies have been hit harder than that are with that bubis off for example, but for the most part it's. It's not a huge thing within the FTC. Because the FTC's always kind of had a reputation of like. Being a bit more open with their sexual harassment and it's always like. It's never been to a level of. A mass critical mass. Joey quilter this past week yesterday in for yesterday in fact was outed by a player. Named He's just does mikey. He goes online and is after the tag is crack. Peron but George Taylor. Who is the head of the current? President Vivo who founded it with Tommy Tony Kanaan. was outed for experiences when he was. Close, to twenty, where they were southern golf land, which is an amusement park in l. a.. That mikey accused him of basically. Paying money to young kids to take their shirts. Germany polls mikey related experience where he said quarter. Paid him twenty dollars to see his genitals inside a restroom and bought him pornography so. It's IT'S A. It's a larger thing that when you look at it from the perspective of not a child who just thinks they're having fun. It's real creepy, but what is conditions came out. Other people's Front, also coming out of the woodwork, saying like more finding old chaser people were talking about doing these things, but not naming names, and now that it's out. The floodgates are broken out. Yvonne immediately went. No, WE'RE GONNA put on administrative leave and check this out, so I mentioned Tom. Tony Kennedy before their more famous like they are obviously co-founders of ego, but there are more famous right now for being developers of Product L. at riot games so. They had to step in for this and go okay. We're looking at this right now. We're investigating and seeing what happens. It did not take very long before nether realm. I believe the first one like say. Are Involved with ego involvement in that sense means we don't WanNA game there. We're not going to earn any money towards prize pools. We're not doing any advertising which is fairly big deal. Arguably moral combat was like the lead game for that tournament. Right for the online tournament. Yes, Merle come at usually has a hard time with like the in person tournament. Fighting community hasn't really take to that game too well, but as an online net code game like for example, smash brothers was canceled for Eve online because the net code. Isn't that good, so this is more time to shine. The actual like really arguably was streetfighter as it is every year. This year. Are Not meeting her, but a little bit. After another canceled COP CANCELED IN ONCE CAPCOM cancels gets away from ego. Then that's that's the ballgame lets. Everything goes away soon after main sex developers of them biting heard who this is their big chance to become A. Kind of a household name and if I didn't need community, they cancelled. Bay Namco canceled and ran into that ego are the canons came out with a message from as ego saying? Hey, we were cutting for joy color. He is not president anymore. In the future, he will have zero involvement with the organization this not he's going to not be on. He's going to be on the board, or he'll be the FCC or he'll still kind of tournaments. They're cutting it off completely. Shortly after that they also that announced, we can't under these circumstances and this change in organization also do evil online in a couple of weeks in August. A month or in August? I. Know that screws over a lot of people, but. It seems like honestly the best. Call right now of. You'RE GONNA have to go through with work. That joy has done or you're going to have to. Try It's from scratch. Cobble together in event that takes at least a year to actually set up and try to get together in a couple of weeks. Yeah, I mean they just they basically. Got Rid of the boss in the most public way, possible right I mean it's it's you can't just like recover from that in a matter of weeks. Really Yeah, it's. It is one of those things of a lot of this is. Probably high time for the funding community insert reckoning with a lot of these things, because it's an issue for a number of years, it was I. I don't know if you recall but a about eight years ago, there was a street fight across capcom across Tekken. Show online, and it ended up ending as a result of some sexual harassment claims, and those a big divide in the community about like whether sexual harassment was a just a part of the culture or not and. Stuff like this doesn't help that argument. No I mean I like you, said earlier I mean like. Feels like the right call to elevate it, and as disappointing as it is for Yvo to be cancelled like it's a big flag for like we need to address. This is if we're going to cancel this event because we need to look at ourselves internally and I think I. Mean Hope the hope is that they come out better on the other side. I mean it seems like this is one of those things where. I. Hesitate to say Covid kind of save them but. If. This were an actual in person things still at Mandalay Bay then they wouldn't be able to cancer that quickly an online tournament. Shuttered a lot more easily. The bigger question now is what happens next year.

There Is No Competition For You To Bury

"Welcome to podcast pontiff vacations. I am. I'm not your host Yvo Tara. I'm your host Dave Jackson from the School of podcasting sitting in the chair. While Yvo take some well deserved time off and talk about podcast competition you see so many people think about podcasting like gets radio and well. It's it's just not and let me explain why when you are on the radio at seven thirty Monday eight through Friday and your competition is also on the radio at seven thirty Monday through Friday. You can't listen to both both at the same time. That is competition but I do a show about podcasting. Yvo does a show about about podcasting. Daniel J Lewis does a show Ray Ortega there's all sorts of people we could go on and on David Hooper and then some people might say. Oh well they're your competition and I go. I don't think so because here's why listen. Listen Evil on Monday and evil is really short so you could. You could actually listen to evil on Monday and then you could listen up. I don't know me and then you can listen to Daniel on Tuesday. You could listen to Ray on Thursday. Listen to David on Friday. Your week is set and yet you're not missing out on anybody and that's why I say there is no competition in podcasting. In fact what's really weird about it. Is You know who some of my best best friends are rare. TAK- dander Jay Lewis Yvo Tara. David Hooper. I could go on and on the reason and for that is they like the same things I like. Nobody can geek out about the good old days like me and Yvo. I don't run into too. Many people pulled that have been in podcasting longer than me because I started in two thousand five Yvo is like an og. He's a two thousand four guy and that's the beauty of of it I was I have a friend of mine. Daryl Darnell runs a pro podcast solutions. It's an audio editing thing and he called me once because he knew I was in Cleveland and and said Hey. I've got this job. This company wants me to record this big interview. They have all these corporate people coming in. Cleveland can you record it for me. And I'm like. Yeah I got microphones that got mixers. I could do that. What percent of the income that I get from this? Do you want as a referral code. And he said nothing. Just keep it. Because it's making his company look really good that he can pull this off and I guess if it was a reoccurring thing that might have changed his mind but I was doing him a favor and he was doing a favor by I paying for it when people go on vacations. It's nice to reach out to one of your competition go. Hey would you like to sit in my chair. There isn't any competition in podcasting. At least not yet. Now what may change that. If a lot of money comes in the podcasting broadcasting maybe in the future that might change things a little bit but this point I think a lot of podcasters liked to serve their audience. We want to help them. We want them to to transform them from not doing something to doing something that while they're doing that would be great. We're out to serve audience and consequently were not quite so cutthroat in you know get off my love kind of people. We're all here to help each other. I hope it stays that way. We'll see but if right now you're doing a podcast and you're like my need more listeners. One way you can grow your audience is don't go over and try to squash and bury your competition. Go over and say hey I see or you've never talked about this subject on your podcast asked and I see where you talked about that subject on your podcast. I've never talked about it on mine. Why do we do a interview swap? And in some cases it doesn't have to be a swap. Maybe you just want to reach out and start that relationship.
