"So let's not have that happen, because I think that would be bad for all of us. So yeah, next week, the day after our podcast next week, we should have some more information on the Xiaomi 13 ultra and we'll see what direction ones, credit card takes a hit. My dream device, this would probably never happen. But it's called an ultra, and I want this so bad. My dream device would be one over 1.56 sensor on the ultra wide. And a one over 1.56 on a medium telephoto. So that could be like two times zoom. And I would be happy with that. And then going to the smaller half inch sensor for a much longer telephoto, like a 6 times zoom telephoto with that half inch. I just don't believe Xiaomi is going to do that. I think oppo kind of surprised us all going with such big sensors on the ultra wide and the telephoto. I want Xiaomi to do that too. I don't see it happening. Oh I want so bad. Again, I've kind of just like kept steadily increasing my demands on what a unicorn camera device would be. But it would be. Now with reasonable, not like making something up. It would be the bigger ultra wide, a bigger sensor for a medium telephoto, and then the half inch sensor for the super telephoto. And that, I mean, that's an instant buy. If we get something like that, I'm like, PayPal account drained bank account ready to go. It's there. It's ready. I'm on hold until we find out what's going to be in this phone. Muppet ish. Hi, my name is Oliver, and I too, have a phone issue. Way too many of these things, man. I got to be real careful. Dave burns. No, here we go. One literally needs to do a why can't I hold all these phones meme? My desk is so trashed right now. And I've even been trying to go back and look at some older phones because there have been so many exciting things happening from like even like phones back in like 2020. There's such good stuff and we can't spend the time to really just kind of live with them, we're constantly trying to just hit the novelty of the YouTube algorithm and I used to spend so much more time going back, but then those videos tank. They perform so poorly. Oh, this was an LG from two years ago. No one cares. And I don't believe that no one cares. I believe it's YouTube getting in the way. Ronald Sims. Hopefully, Xiaomi will have four K on the selfie camera, parentheses. They won't. Okay, here's the big rumor. The big exciting rumor is that the Xiaomi 13 ultra is gonna finally have a USB three USB-C port. Eh? 'cause let me tell you, having the Xiaomi 12 is ultra with these amazing cameras on it, but only a USB two port on the bottom of this with no video output and slower transfer speeds. Not that fun. When you're moving big chunks of UHD video, like hold on, I might have, I don't know how much of this I can show, but I've got all these things with videos of bicycles in them. And like, oh, there's a video of my wife talking about a bicycle. And trying to move those files to another computer is noticeably slower. When your phone is USB two on the bottom of it. So yeah, if they finally step up to USB three, that would be pretty sweet. That would be a pretty sizable upgrade for any Xiaomi Xiaomi has always held to whatever Apple does. I guess it's good enough for you too. And USB two is dumb. Having USB two on your phones right now is super dumb. So that to me might be a motivator, like a purchasing motivator. Lumia ten 20, does it still hold up in 2023? I would say it does. The lumia ten 20 has a roughly two third inch image sensor, which if we reduce our fractions obnoxiously for camera types, that would be a one over 1.5 inch type sensor. Well, a $1000 Samsung has a one over 1.56. My €999 Xiaomi 13 has a one over 1.56. That is a two third inch ish type sensor. It's a little smaller than a two third inch sensor. So from an optical standpoint, it actually having a slightly slightly smaller aperture is also kind of a good thing for the lumia ten 20. So the lumia ten 20 optically is still a pretty competitive camera against phones that are significantly more expensive than you would think. The ten 20 could compete against. Nokia was so far ahead of the curve on a lot of those optical technologies, it's a pretty big deal, yeah. That's what we lose when we lose competition. It took us, I mean, I can't even remember when the ten 20 came out. It took us like 8 years, is that how long it took before we had a price comparable optical system that performed similarly to what the ten 20 could do. Because we went through all those years. So the half inch sensors came out around the time of the one plus 7. So that's half inch, and then I want to say we went through one over 1.7. So the V 60 has a one

We'll see you there. And I almost spat water all over my wireless mic. So Simon says hypnos says zero. Okay. I mean, that's not following instructions, but I feel like that's still clear. Trent says, I'll cash go. Duos says, what it was to do was say, as for good sold Jeff I did? seeing Raymond Simon says hypno hawks put a two in the chat. Okay? A cup of cash with Dave burns is putting a one. Dave burns is saying that the pixel watch is competing against the galaxy watch. So here's my problem with the way that we have lazily defined smartwatch because I feel the data matters on what expectations we should have for an individual product and sales of an ecosystem of products. And I am kind of picking on 9 to 5 Google here just a little bit. So let's go back into the article. There we go. Reports that Google shipped 800 and 80,000 pixel watch units in the fourth quarter 2022. The first three months that the smartwatch was available for sale. It was enough to help Google keep the second place slot in the smartwatch market with 8% of the total shipment volume. That's behind apple's commanding lead of nearly 28% and well above Samsung's 5.9% market share. Okay, but we're talking about Google well I need to see by comparison Apple shipped just shy of 14 million smartwatches in the same period, while Samsung Xiaomi and Huawei hovered around 3 million. Samsung shipped over 3 million watches, but 880,000 pixel watches make it the second place in the market, but that's not even a million, so what we see is Google is second place because they own Fitbit. So Fitbit sold over 4 million watches. Fitbit sold 4 million watches, the pixel watches almost a million units in that one quarter. Now, to be fair, Samsung, I believe they're also counting all of the bands. So not every galaxy watch is a full smart watch. And that's why we've got to use this broad. But Apple doesn't ship any dumb bands. When we say the Apple watch sold 14 million watches in that period, they're all premium expensive, smart watches. They're none of them fitness bands. Samsung Samsung Huawei Xiaomi, they sell mostly bands and then they also have a few nicer fitness tracking watches and then Samsung has the galaxy watch, which is a true computer on your wrist wearing running wear OS and the same thing happens now when we staple Fitbit and pixel watch together, Google is selling. I think they're selling almost 5 million watches. That's awesome. I'm really glad. The majority of those are fitbits. We haven't even cracked a million pixel watches. So 14 million Apple watches against 880,000 pixel watches is the fair fight. Right? I'm no fan of Apple. Apple watch is one of the best products I've ever put out, the fair fight is Apple watch versus galaxy watch versus pixel watch. Not Apple watch versus fitbits. And pixel watch. It's where I really bothers me how we, how we try to quantify. This data is because I want Google to do well and I want to see the pixel watch succeed. I don't know that it can really get better as so long as they're stapled to Samsung for all of their SOCs. And it's really frustrating that Google and Samsung have denied fossil and tick, improvements to wear OS three because currently whereas three has miserable support for Qualcomm SOCs. Wear OS three supports old Samsung chips. Better than it supports new, more power efficient, more powerful Qualcomm chips. I feel that's wrong. I want to support wear OS, but I'm wearing an amaze fit because I want better battery life and right now I'm even sacrificing my need for better notification support because boy howdy is Samsung not getting that done. But I also really appreciated I don't know how you pronounce the name of this analyst canalys. I think is how you pronounce it. So if we scroll down to their overall market from 2021 to 2022, we've mostly seen growth. The company that took the steepest dive was Xiaomi, so they lost, they say 41% drop. But yeah, I mean, there's still in the top mix of some of the bestselling watches. And I think Xiaomi is still outpacing Samsung all watches and bands combined. But I love seeing this breakdown because we see big bar graphs for Apple. We see smaller bar graphs for Xiaomi Huawei Samsung, Google, we see actually kind of a decline, but increased sales of the pixel watch have helped Google plus Fitbit kind of keep their position. But then if you look at the whole rest of the wearable market, it dwarfs apple in this. There is still huge opportunity. We have not hit a plateau point on fitness bands and smartwatches. Recently, we've been talking about how Bluetooth earbuds are kind of hitting their peak. They're kind of plateauing as an accessory that manufacturers can make more money on. We're now not finding new consumers to buy Bluetooth earbuds, we're now just going to be selling Bluetooth earbuds to the same group of consumers as they're older earbuds wear out. Which is always been the sort of hook of true wireless. True wireless earbuds will never last as long as a good cabled pair of headphones. Because they have batteries and little electronic components. You've got to manage a case. All of those things are built to wear out faster than a really nice pair of earbuds that you can replace the cable. Like I've got, you know, I've got a couple on my desk. These are my mi audio not Pinnacle. What are these? I can't remember

"It is a subreddit where people contribute stories they feel deserve more attention. Specifically, tech stories. And the number one, I'm really excited about this. The number one post on Reddit dot com slash R slash glowing rectangles was a cross post. And I think it was if Ted still in the chat, I don't know if Ted still in the chat. That I think tech geezer commented on during his stream. And we just had a whole extended conversation about my daughter's playlist in vinyl. So the number one post Reddit dot com slash R slash glowing rectangles came from a user halfway power riot. And I've actually had a couple of conversations with halfway power riot. I don't think halfway power riot likes me. But they cross posted gen zers are bookworms, but they say they're shunning ebooks because of eye strain, digital detoxing, and their love for libraries. This is a story that came by way of Business Insider. This was on my list of topics to cover this week if the rest of the news block hadn't already been so bonkers. But that took the top post. So a lot of the content that you're going to see on glowing rectangles is our YouTube videos. But increasingly, we were starting to get more people cross posting. So you can go to one Reddit, like if it's a tech or a gadget or a science related Reddit, you can cross post. You can send posts to other subreddits where appropriate. And it's kind of a great way to sort of spider web your community. You want to show people that you're interested in their topic, maybe we have a broader collection of topics to talk about, but there's still some play back and forth. And that article took the top post this week on Reddit dot com slash glowing rectangles. Number two, is this what a 2020 three iPod looks like from one mister Ryan Thomas. I really enjoyed Ryan has been doing a whole, why don't I have an up arrow on that? I swear I uploaded that. Ryan has been doing a whole collection of videos like looking back at older phones and doing re reviews, and he started also covering some audio gear and some really fun accessories and stuff. And again, we've got a whole block of Samsung news and Xiaomi news and vivo news and the second highest upvoted post on glowing rectangles is a little music player on what we could do to return to the iPod. I don't know about y'all, but I really, I'm kind of torn. I like having something that plays great music. LG is out of the game, so there's no more quad dac and I like ASUS, but for gaming phones, if it's really about gaming, I kind of lean more red magic. So I often am using it's kind of smudgy and dirty because I use it. I'm often using something like my Theo or my I fi. These are sort of my go to portable dacs that can go cable or go Bluetooth. But if I'm already holding something that's bigger than an iPod nano, maybe I should just go back to a dedicated music player. The advancements in the improvements to mobile audio processing in very tiny form factors with incredible amps, incredible dacs, maybe I just need to go back to this having its own built in storage as opposed to connecting to a phone. I mean, I'm kind of torn. This can also be like my microphone for phone calls. That that's kind of a thing. But it maybe makes sense to someone out there where if your phone's not going to get the job done anymore, maybe it's time to look at a dedicated device instead. And there were plenty, I mean, I'm holding it the two companies I'm most familiar with. I've loved Theo gear and I've just recently become kind of a convert to I fi. They're a bunch of really great players out there in this market. And then the number three is some dork in a hat talking about Verizon 5G home broadband. Rounding out the top 5. We've got a monster post from Gary explains. I added more ram to my laptop and almost doubled its performance. Gary explains things that are worth explaining, and I would highly recommend if you're not already subscribing to his channel. And then rounding out the top 5, Damien wild one week with the Xiaomi 13 pro. Beastly beauty. I just want to highlight, because I don't even know if he's still in the chat too. Jermaine, just missed the top 5. Tech by Jermaine Xiaomi 13 pro versus vivo X 90 pro low light photography, and there's a clear winner. And so tech by germane. The number 6 post made it really close

"Hunter also there's liquid inside the phone, a busted pipe would kill the phone still impressive though. Again, this is a concept. And again, we've had vapor chambers and technically a vapor chamber is a liquid storage solution that then heats up and vaporizes and tries to use that energy energy imbalance between the back of the phone, the vapor chamber and the SOC to extract heat and get it flowing in a certain direction. I believe there was also technically liquid cooling in the lumia 9 50. Again, a similar construct on an idea of a limited form factor limited size vapor chamber type heat distribution. So I don't want people to look at this concept and think, it's like a liquid cooling pump similar to what's in your desktop. It's not that kind of liquid cooling, but there is material in there that is used in the process with a PCO electric pump to extract heat from one part of the phone and get it to another part of the. Oh, I hope so, a DT and L saying, the one inch type sensor photography addendum to the book is going to be good. I've had to rewrite major sections of the book. So my last revision was actually in 2022. I did not. It was in 2021. I did not finish a 2022 revision of the book. And I really felt like, okay, I'm seeing some things here and I'm seeing some trends. Let me just wait. And then for 2023, I'll add a bunch of things in. And I'm going back through and I'm reading from 2021. There has been enough changing in smartphone photography that I've had to reformat more significant portions of the book. I had sections in there where, like, if you go through and you read my book, there are things like, well, when I originally wrote this book back in 2015, it was like this, but now today we're seeing this as a trend. And even over two years, that information is woefully out of date. Just fundamentally out of date, and even some passages where it's like, well, how would this obviously your phone can't compare against a stand-alone camera? And you know what? That's not true anymore. It's very limited. It's very specific, but yeah, you can make some direct optical comparisons between one inch type sensors and micro four thirds cameras. And so that information at a date, I've got to find a different way of communicating that idea. So I've had to go over almost every single section of the book to better explain what the current trend in smartphone photography is. And from the one over 1.3 inch type sensor to the one inch type sensor is a more significant step than a lot of techies are willing to admit. It took Apple all this time to catch up with a one over 1.3 inch type sensor just in time for Sony and Xiaomi to just like completely change the game. Will this is the question we're going to go out on gorm lord's question here and then we can wrap all this mess of a podcast up. Will all flagships need active cooling in the near future. So here's one of the things that I really hope we can find a better balance on. I don't think need is the right word. Here's what I hope will happen. I've got the Xiaomi 13 here. The Xiaomi 13 has a Snapdragon agen two. This has been a significant improvement in sustained performance with more reasonable power draw and better thermal management. But you can still run this phone hot, you can still get it to throttle. This is heavy compute power in a sealed up device. But when you get the phone out of the box, it has a balanced scheduler. It has a balanced mode on, which is significantly restricting the upper upper tier of this SOC's performance. And I guarantee you the vast majority of people who buy the Xiaomi 13 won't notice. In fact, it's still going to be an upgrade over any phone that they might have owned over the last two or three years. The performance characteristics are still ahead of the Snapdragon 8 60, the Snapdragon 8 88 and HN one, no contest, you're not going to notice that. So what I think we really need to focus on are better schedule better CPU scheduling, better CPU core management and voltage management. And when you're going about your day, there is so little compute power that you really need to get through messaging, phone calls, text messages, social media, even using your cameras is using a different combination of coprocessors, ISPs, you're not using the CPU compute power of that phone. And so that's where I think we need to just get smarter about, where are we applying heavy workload compute power? Where are we really putting that torque in? And where can we really back off? And where can we find additional power management gains like changing the voltage on the fly? Like, can we a phone and keep a reasonably consistent tier of performance that people won't even notice? And it still fulfilling a 120 hertz on the display and you're not getting a choppy interface. Then. When we want to use a phone more like a computer and really dig into those heavier compute tasks, I think we just need to additionally talk about power management. The note 23 finally brings a few of those features that we've been championing on gaming phones and on Sony experience. I think it's kind of funny. Now Samsung knights are really excited. Oh, this has like a basic charge separation charge management option when I'm playing a game. If that feature mattered to you, it also should have mattered on a gaming phone or on an Xperia. Because let me tell you, charge separation is a huge deal. It helps reduce wear and tear

"Oh, John gal. Yeah. I mean, especially if you're using these not as a reviewer, but is like a proper daily driver for your own needs. John says I've always been, I've always been importing experience from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, but I'm hesitant to do it again because of the carrier certification BS. I really wish Sony will still release the pro I to in the United States. If they release a pro I to I don't know. This one I really feel like it could be a coin flip. If they see some interest or some pre orders or they see some activity where it's not just people going, oh, there's no Sony still made phones. It's so hard to say. How do you even say a pro I? I don't know how letters work. Oh, but I shot this on a Sony alpha a 7 Mark four. Because that's really easy to figure out. But Xperia pro IV. Oh, I don't know how hands work. I'm such a scamp of a tech reviewer. And if you ever see that, just turn that channel off. I mean, like that person is not going to contribute. To your education in any way. They have no experiences to share. They are, they are awful. They're bad at photography and they're bad at tech. Okay, so I really do feel it could be a coin flip. If we see this phone sell out like crazy in China, it might get a broader distribution. And then we'll have to see if there's interest in Europe, maybe they'll dedicate some units to the United States, but I do not believe that Sony is going to put any priority on the United States. It's going to be really conservative this year because they just, they're not going to spend $4 billion on marketing just to get people to consider their phones. They're not going to move the units

"One, if we lose moon zoom, how will we see what the moon looks like? You expect me to use my eyes? I'm not saying moon zoom isn't fun. You set your phone up on a tripod, you can take a decent photo of the moon. It looks like a blurry smartphone photo of the moon. It's cool. I'm just saying, what are you likely to use more? And there's an argument. Like, okay, so we're talking about moon zoom. If you are in super bright conditions and you want to get a better view of your kid playing soccer. That to me is one of the practical benefits of the note 23. By going to a ten time zoom, you've got a lot more reach than you will on a pixel 7 pro where Xiaomi 12 S ultra. That's cool. That's great. I'm really not. Again, when we talk about photo quality from tiny smartphone sensors and tiny smartphone lenses, I'm pretty good with the 5 time zoom on the bigger sensors capturing more pixel level detail, giving me a little bit more room to kind of crop from equivalent distances and equivalent focal lengths. And I like the image clarity better, especially when the lighting isn't perfect. And that, I think, is a fair comparison. The note 23 bright sunlight, soccer field. It's probably going to be the better shooter. If you're playing in the late evening, I don't think those little sensors are going to do as well, even for the extra reach, you're going to get poorer quality with how those sensors soak up light, especially for action. You're trying to freeze action, you want to be able to soak up as many photons as you can. Smaller sensor, fewer photons. Yeah, a detail. I completely agree. Three to four times zoom is that sweet spot for indoor telephoto. I mean, it's real good. Raymond saying, I wish 8 K on the pixel 7 pro. I have not found as many like clutch experiences like really using the 8 K again, it's something that I'm going to be digging into here on the note 23. There is a clarity improvement, it's not, it's not snake oil. But the phone has to work so much harder. The file sizes get so enormous. And your ability to edit those files becomes incredibly more complicated, I haven't found where all of that effort really amounts to a better consumer photography or even professional sort of videography experience over really, really good, high quality four K video. I'm definitely balancing some compromises. 8 K video is sharper, but I can't cut 8 K from my phone, where I can edit those clips directly from the phone, even in four K one 20. LumaFusion on Android will take a four K one 20 clip, and you can change it into whatever timeline you want. You can crop into it. You can slow it down. You could speed it up if you wanted it to be faster. It's remarkable what luma can do. Not very many 8 K video clips will load into a smartphone video editing app. 8 K clips have crashed KineMaster. They just show up as question marks and PowerDirector. And then they just, the audio will load up on LumaFusion, but you often won't get the actual video file. So it sort of defeats the purpose of shooting AK. So I don't want to talk down 8 K, it's just our opportunities to really use it are hyper specific. And even when I'll be looking at those situations where like, hey, this is like, I need the utmost video quality, I still don't know that I would opt for 8 K from a phone. It's tricky. Again, it's like we kind of haven't crested that where we can make 8 K is practical as four K currently is. Because four K right now, we can do so much with four K video. Oh, Brian glaze asked so as a follow-up, what question outside of the camera? What do you see the next pixel? What do you see the pixel doing next? I really feel like pixel is increasingly going to separate itself as a platform for software features. So whatever Google's initiative is next, where I feel like the assistant is probably going to start picking up more conversational chat interfaces. Like right now, if you do Microsoft Bing chat on an Android phone, you get that sort of AI conversational back and forth going, and it's pretty cool. I think that's actually going to be the next phase. The pixel is going to be the tip of the sphere. Let's show you what the assistant can really do. Let's really finish up some of those assistant features where it can book restaurant reservations for you. It's really going to be services. And I don't think the phone is going to be a radical hardware departure from where we currently are. I'd love to see just a little spruce up on the ultra wide camera. I'd like to just see continued progress on some of their current initiatives for. Co processors and AI and machine learning. But I think it's going to be a very modest direction for hardware where hopefully we'll see more radical initiatives in software. Oh, take a look at my mom has given everyone a wave. Hey, tuck let my mama. All right. Let's see.

"Oh yeah, I saw that too, McCormick says that Ben's gadget review was also very bullish about Xiaomi's AR glasses. I really need to harass the folks at Xiaomi after MWC. When they came out with a concept, it was over a year ago. They showed off a concept and I was not dignified in harassing Xiaomi PR. As soon as something like this exists for people to go hands on, I need to do that. And they're like, oh, it's just a concept. You just put out a video. It's not a real product yet, and then like a year and a half later. It's like, okay, now I need a harassment again. Oh man. All right, Ben Langston, what would you like to see, what would you like to see Google do next with the pixel to take it to the next step? In terms of photography, again, it's pros and cons, like the pixel 7 pro is a really good telephoto performer, but I kind of like the pixel 6 pro's telephoto better. And I am basing this on a very specific kind of home indoor candid photography. It's maybe not what consumers average consumers are going to be interested in. They want to be impressed by how far the zoom goes. I would definitely want a higher quality ultra wide, I would love Google to take a page out of Sony's playbook with four K slow motion. Because I don't think it would be a benefit on a pixel to shoot true four K one 20. So like on my Sony, if I tell it to shoot four K one 20, it saves a four K 120 frame per second real time video file. And it looks aggressively obnoxiously sharp and superfluid. You don't really want to share those videos. They don't look good. They look really hyper fluid and edgy. But then you can play with time. It's so easy to drop to 60 or to drop to even 24 frames per second for a one 5th speed slow motion. But I would love to see Google take the practical benefit of a high readout sensor and give us four K slow motion. So you could say four K at one 5th speed. You don't have to let the you don't have to make the user process any of that or put it into an editing app or do anything funky. It just saves the slow motion file. And pixel is already kind of doing something like that with the cinematic pan mode. So you get a pixel and you kind of hold the product and you slowly pan across a scene and then it delivers a slowed down four K video. I want them to just take that full step. I want to go into slow motion mode and go 1080p at 480 frames per second or four K at a 120 frames per second. And then save that slow motion file. I think that would be a really bold novelty for consumers. Because I mean, I'm telling you, if you haven't really played with four K one 20, you claim to be into smartphone cameras, you're missing out on something so fun. It is so fun to shoot family videos. My daughter's running around the zoo, and you're not sacrificing resolution. It's not potato quality 1080p, it is full four K, but it's so dramatically slow. And you're like, oh, it looks awesome. It's things like, you know, how video can get really crunchy looking when you're shooting lots of busy details. I've got a video from the one plus ten pro of my daughters and a splashing in this bubbling fountain. It's just her hands, and there are these little bubble jets and you see all these little water droplets. In every 1080p video, the compression and artifacting would make that look kind of messy. It would still look cool that it was in slow motion, but it wouldn't be crisp. I don't know one plus ten pro, it is crisp as she is scooping water into her hands and splashing it up. And it looks so good. It's one of my all time favorite clips of my daughter out playing. And it's just her hands playing in a fountain. I think something like that could be really fun. Really, it my hopes for the pixel 7. I mean, excuse me. My hopes for the pixel 8 are just kind of catching up to some of the more the more traditional raw compute power expectations, the pixel 7 pro is an absolute monster device that performs way better than its geekbench scores would indicate, but that still doesn't mean that we couldn't see some benefits. Like I'd love to see a tensor with modern CPU cores produced by TSMC. I really feel, again, like whenever Samsung succeeds in the market and Samsung's partnership with Google is really good for Samsung. I don't think it's good for the industry. I don't think it helps Google as much as it helps Samsung, and this is what Google has to do to not make Samsung worried about competition in North America. We might sell more pixel phones, but it's going to be with Samsung screens and Samsung sensors and Samsung SOCs and right now Google is the only manufacturer putting a premium tier Samsung chip in their phones. Not even Samsung is selling a phone with a premium Samsung chip.

"It's so much more camera like it is so close to like the kind of muted and conservative photo processing that you would see from an Xperia. Only you also get the benefits of some larger camera sensors. Leica and Xiaomi working together on Sony camera sensors is such an incredible. It's such an incredible collaboration. And similarly, now we've gotten a little bit more mature on vivo working with zeiss. And I think with vivo and zeiss, vivo is way more interested in aggressive processing and really fun features and background blur and low light computational photography. It's very aggressive, compute work. But again, you dig through some of those settings and you go and shoot a raw photo on this new X 90 and you're like, this is really camera like. This is so much more camera like than I've ever seen from a phone outside of a Sony. But with a larger sensor. So to not see this evolution, or to try and just like, well, yeah, but I mean like Samsung and 200 megapixels, that's gonna be the best, probably. You're totally missing all of the fun and all of the interesting optical evolutions that make smartphone photography so much more competitive. And then again, there are all of these people that are just like, oh, but Apple are gonna flip out whenever Apple does eventually get to an even larger sensor. See, we said, I mean, like, but Apple was gonna do it right. You know, they haven't been doing it right for years. This is so bad. Why are we pretending that this is even competitive? I know, I mean, I get it because Apple videos pay the bills better. And you definitely don't want to upset Apple PR if you're on the list. You know, that doesn't make for a good review though.

"That first on galaxies. I have a Galaxy S ten E it's a smaller sensor. It's a one over 2.55 inch type sensor, and the difference between F two and F four, I think it was like, it was only like a stop or two that the phone cut light. It wasn't profound, but it did help, especially in super bright daylight conditions, you got a longer depth of field. You got better clarity. You could manage your shutter speed a little bit easier. That two stage aperture was a big perk. We later saw that same kind of two stage aperture arrangement on the Xperia pro I, and when you go to a bigger camera sensor, that really matters, being able to stop down and cut half as much light from the equation means you can really sort of rein in your shutter speed. Your video quality improves. Like all of those things, it's why cameras have this iris control. But it was only two stage. And then we saw with Huawei a more fluid variable aperture, and I got to play with one up in Sonoma. I got to just kind of mess around with that. I didn't use it, but I got to, you're around other techies. So he was like, hey, I've got this Huawei and you're like, oh, I want to see that variable aperture, and it does. It does exactly what the claim is. But that had, I believe it was a one over 1.56 inch type sensor, so they went with a smaller sensor, not smaller, but a medium sized camera sensor so they could put in all the machinery to do this variable aperture. If the 13 ultra is combining a one inch type sensor with a, even just a two stage variable aperture. That would be a huge improvement. One of the trouble spots on a one inch type sensor, this is pulling in significantly more light per second than a smaller sensored phone. For your photos, that's okay. I mean, if you ramp up your shutter speed, there really aren't any significant drawbacks to the kinds of photos you choose. So you can shoot with these crazy fast shutters. But for video, if you try to shoot cinematic at 24 frames per second, and you're in bright daylight conditions, your video looks like garbage. You have to use such a fast shutter that you're hyper isolating and you're delivering this hyper clarity per frame that looks really choppy at only 24 P you can't use a 180° shutter on a one inch type sensor in bright daylight unless you've also got a rig where you can really pop on a good neutral density filter. But if you could stop down the aperture, you wouldn't have to have that rig or that filter you could just go directly in camera. You'd have a longer depth of field, but your video is going to look smoother for using a longer shutter speed. When we're talking about an ultra phone, that to me would be a compelling upgrade over the previous generation of ultra phones. And it would mean that to me would also mean there's a good reason why we've got a 13, a 13 pro, and a 13 ultra. Let's see if I can take a drink of coffee without spelling all over myself. Ah, yeah, see, McCourt and I was the same. I really liked when Xiaomi has a distinct big camera lens in the back. Centered on the back or vivo having that really unique aesthetic color. They stand out, the Xiaomi was the one that I think really caught a lot of my daughter's Friends, parents, eyes, I think I'm just going to say really caught the other parent's eyes. You know I have a kid. I'm not talking about like my parents. That phone really stood out. It stood out almost to a degree that, like, the classic like the honore. I still think the honoree was the phone that I was asked about the most when I was using it out in public. But the Xiaomi was close. And then there was an immediate conversation that you could have where I'd say like, yeah, this thing is a camera like nothing I've ever seen before. And you can immediately go and do like a photo comparison. I had a dad with an iPhone or an iPhone 12 pro, just like, yeah, but I mean apple and processing. And the sensors or I just carry my DSLR. And the second you take a photo side by side. Man, those like ingrained marketing talking points, like all of the advertising that someone has consumed from Apple is immediately challenged. There's no place to scurry. You know, there's no little, yeah, but we shot this photo of your kid. I shot it from my phone and you shot it from your phone and what are we looking for in terms of processing? And he's like, well, yeah, but I didn't use a portrait mode on mine. And you're like, that wasn't a portrait mode. That was the natural focus fall off from the lens. Do you want to see a portrait mode? Because we could do that now on top of this natural background blur. But the HDR in blah blah blah. It's like, well, yeah, but your phone is all splotchy. Like iPhone photo processing and jpeg is kind of garbage. Zoom in. Look at the details on her eye. He zooms in and he's like, yeah, it's got that paint dab because the iPhone is using a ridiculously high ISO when it doesn't need to. And then it slams the noise reduction and then tries to sharpen that information after the fact. And then I take my phone and the photo of his kid looking right down the lens of my phone camera and I zoom in and you can see our reflection in her eyeball. Wow, but you know like the highlights over here and you're like, really? You're zooming into the out of focus bokeh balls behind your child to look at the slightly brighter highlights that still aren't blown out, but they're just brighter than what your iPhone captured. And that's what you care about for a photo of your daughter, not that the photo of her was incredibly better. But that the autofocus bokeh balls. Oh no, I couldn't use that Xiaomi. Oh no, I gotta stick with my iPhone because the less depth of field is better. And that's like, after you get to the end of that, and you're like, that's fine. You can still like your iPhone. I'm not trying to tell you to not like your iPhone, but let's not pretend that this isn't an evolutionary leap in photography performance. And yeah, sorry, I went through all of that. The Xiaomi 13 pro gets to benefit from that stuff too. The Xiaomi 13 has been very good. I actually really like this partnership with leica. When you go into a Xiaomi and you switch it to leica authentic. Man, I do not like like a vibrant. It is such an aggressive social media pukey saturated pop. And it reminds me of kind of two generation old Samsung where like greens become kind of yellow lime reds really get magenta E and kind of clippy and orange, but you switch it to like an authentic and. It's so much more camera like it is so close to like the kind of muted and

"Other people were saying, I think they were inspired by iku. I don't think they were. Yeah, 'cause hold on, or do I have, I think I've got the I cool 11. I just held up the IQ 9, 'cause I wanted to show off that camera module. But I'm pretty sure I've got the 11 over here. This is the, again, the hilarious of being a tech reviewer and having kind of a harvest season of phones on your desk right now. And so we've got the Xiaomi 13. Let me lean back because Nvidia is being crazy with my I need to reset the crop on this. So we've got the Xiaomi 13. Like, okay, okay, okay. And we've got the vivo, the IQ 11, and I don't see much visual language identity, the IQ is definitely doing that thing. They both have flat screens, so I appreciate that. I love having a flat screen on the vivo. But the rail is so much thinner on the side of the phone than the flat flat flat sides on the Xiaomi 13. So the back curves, it's got that faux leather, and then I do kind of like that, even though they're not doing full width anymore, that the camera module on the iku is at least distinctively different than many of the other corner mounted camera systems that we've seen. So I could see maybe I could, but I don't think they're looking at haiku much as their top competitor. I think they're looking at one specific company as their main source of competition. And it's not an Android manufacturer and then they're looking. Oh, ER 1980. It's one of those things. It's a complete intangible. Until you sort of experience a gadget, you're listening to people like me talk about it. I can try and share some of those experiences, but it's never it's never complete. It's why I'm so frustrated with reviewers that kind of latch on to just very simplistic. It feels really good in the hand kinds of conversations. There's so much more psychology that goes into this. ER writes, I held onto a Sony Xperia one Mark four for a couple of weeks before handing it over to my uncle who I bought the phone on behalf of have to say it felt great to hold that device solid. And there is a distinct difference in picking up an Xperia and using that as a camera over a phone that has curved back and curved glass and is a thin rail on the sides. I am terrified. Using my Xiaomi 12 S ultra, or my vivo, my vivo X 80 and X 90, those curved screens, thin rails. It's supposed to trick your fingers into you holding a smaller device. I don't want my fingers tricked into holding a smaller device, and the Xiaomi 13 reinforces that. The Xiaomi 13, I'm holding onto this phone. I'm good. I have a grip on this device using it like a camera. And the only other phone that kind of well, I believe the phone that kind of set that standard was Sony. Really, really flat oh, we've got it over here again. Really, really flat, broad just, it feels like I'm really holding on to something. And then you throw just a little bit of a bumper case on it. And it really is. It's one of the best ergonomic photography experiences you can have with the phone. And that's what matters, because if you're getting really intense, like I do, I'm running after lex or I'm rolling around in the dirt to get a pretty flower macro shot or a snail shell or something like that. Man, I am thinking about the vivo. I am thinking about the Xiaomi and I'm just kind of taking my Sony for granted. It's just there and it's ready to do the job. So there's a lot that goes into that ER. I completely agree, though. It's such a beautifully constructed phone. So this is a good question Reaper. I kind of want to let's go to GSM arena. Because I want to pull up the 13 and the 13 pro, so Xiaomi 13. Great. I already had it there. And Xiaomi 13 pro. And I'm not going to read off all the specs and stuff. But when we're going between these two here, there we go. Screen share. So from the 13th to the 13 pro, we move up in resolution. So we get the 1440 P display, but we're keeping roughly the same screen specs for a 120 hertz and a peak brightness, 1900 nits of peak brightness. The pro has gorilla glass victus versus gorilla glass 5 on the Xiaomi 13. They're both rocking, Snapdragon 8 gen twos. But really, when we're talking about the difference between pro and ultra. I'm sorry, the Reaper asked one, they put all the great specs on the 13 pro what's left for the 13 ultra. I know I kind of mentioned that. I went right off into answering the question. So we've got similar megapixel numbers on the main camera. A one over 1.49 inch on the 50 megapixel, a one inch type on the pro. But we really want to start digging into the telephoto performance and the ultra wide performance. And that's the area where I feel some of these camera systems can be improved. And then also, the rumor might be, and I know Barry has been really excited about this, is that the rumor on the Xiaomi 13 ultra is going to be a variable aperture. And that would be a huge perk on this one inch type sensor. So we saw that first on galaxies. I have a Galaxy S ten E it's a smaller sensor. It's a one over 2.55

"Cracked me up. Snorkel says, I don't know, but he put, I don't, you know, so it's like a certain phone manufacturer, the way they always use a lower case I your 1980s saying he's looking at some fruit. Carl saying Sony. And I think that's fair because we're talking about flat sides. But I do want to bring this up because I love flat sides on a phone. So here's my Sony, my Xperia one, and I absolutely adore the build on a Sony, but if I hold up a Sony, I should turn it this way. I should turn off all of my notifications there. If I hold it up this way, this is like a monolith from 2001 a space Odyssey, right? So not only just in material choices, but also in that aesthetic and visual choices like flat. Yeah, and kind of a curve around into the corners, but largely flat sides. Okay, that makes sense. I can definitely see that. But then when I pick up the Xiaomi, it is glossy metallic edges with even more curved corners. It's a specific kind of antenna band, even the sort of rear module isn't exactly like another phone, but it's that curved square look. When Xiaomi's in the past have done some really interesting things, I don't have them. I don't have one up here. But like pocos, especially have done really cool things with like full width, camera modules that just looks really cool. They've done some visually different kinds of kinds of aesthetics. Like, I've got my X 5. So my poco, the poco X four had a full width like module on the back for the camera. It's a lot like the IQ. The IQ did something similar, but this is a BBK phone. This isn't a Xiaomi phone. We know that Xiaomi has played with other visual aesthetics for mounting camera hardware to their devices. I kind of wish they would come up with a more unique visual style guide for because otherwise the 13 is, I think it's a very attractive phone. I think this is a really pretty phone. It's built incredibly well. It feels more premium. How long? How the back glass kind of fits against the metal edge? On the Xiaomi 12 T, the Xiaomi phones from last year. They had more of a scoop scooped, curved glass on the back, but that also meant that they had to make the rail on the side thinner and you could really feel the seam at the corners. The corners stuck out from where the glass would be seated into the phone. Nothing like that. The Xiaomi 13 feels so much better pieced together than the T series phones did last year. So it's just frustrating because for all of this manufacturing for as beautifully put together as this phone is, it's immediate, like the kinds of criticisms and the kinds of comparisons that people are going to make. And unfortunately, I think psychologically, that reinforces why people should just go buy iPhones. I think as a manufacturer, they do a disservice to their own manufacturing skill, how beautifully put together this phone is when at a distance, someone's going to see this and just think it's an iPhone in a case. That visual language that visual identity matters because when I take my 12s ultra out into the field, no one confuses this with an iPhone. I get questions about what this thing is. And people want to see the photos that get taken from this because they see what looks like a massive honking camera lens on the back of a phone. No one's going to be curious about the 13. The Xiaomi 13 is not going to turn heads in that brief glance. Like, oh, at best it's going to be, that's kind of a weird case on that iPhone. Anyway, and they're just going to kind of move on. And that to me is something that I think we keep missing the forest for the trees. You're not going to convince iPhone users to move over to your team if you make a phone that looks like the iPhone. All you're going to do is convince the iPhone user that they made the right choice. That phone might be better, but they're just copying the iPhone, I bought the original, not the cheap copy. And Android has that reputation of just being a cheaper, lesser than phone. So that to me becomes one of those, I totally get it. I got a bunch of comments. I had to start censoring muting a bunch of people who were like, oh, but Chinese phones bad. And it's a Chinese phone that's just gonna wreck all your data and copy the iPhone. You're like, you bring nothing to this conversation. I've got to turn you off. But the side of that where the more obvious inspiration of where this phone comes from, definitely, I think, speaks to some of those Android frustrations. We want phones that are going to be distinct. Like I want a phone that isn't just trying to be as good as an iPhone. I want a phone that's going to be better. From a corcoran, it'll be interesting to see if the 12 S ultra price will come down now, the mi 11 ultra drop to like 600 on giz top when it was a year old. So I think the tricky thing with the 12 S ultra is that it was such a late year refresh and it had the Snapdragon 8 plus gen one and it had the direct newest camera sensor. So that camera sensor only exists today. The one inch camera sensor that I'm glowing all over also on my vivo only exists because Xiaomi and Sony spent a lot of money co developing a solution for phones. I believe Xiaomi's investment was 15 or $20 million into making this camera sensor happen. So I don't, I do believe it will hit some price drops. Obviously, if they've manufactured them, they're sitting on store shelves. They're just going to want to get rid of them. Giz top also might at some point say like, we had a few and reserve just in case we just want to get, we just want to fire sale them and get rid of them. I don't know that we'll see as aggressive. Price cuts this year on older phones, especially 8 plus gen ones. It'll be interesting to see. I really, I'm kind of curious to see how this plays out. For me, the buying the 12 S ultra was really the museum phone aspect of having one of the first major mass produced versions of this sensor. And I thought it would be a better implementation on this phone than on the sharp. Because sharp is the only other company that's been messing with one inch phones. One inch camera sensor phones. So that's kind of I veered Xiaomi. I was really close. I was like, man, I could go sharp, I could go with the leica, which is essentially just a re badged sharp, but I kind of feel Xiaomi's probably gonna do this better. And I'm glad I did. The 12s ultra has been an absolute photography on monster. It's just really intensely good. Sorry.

"And I just gleek coffee all over my lap. Oh no, it's still dripping. This is excellent podcasting. If you're only listening to the audio version of the show, this is an intense audio drama involving coffee on my mechanical keyboard. Don't do what I do, kids. Do as I say, not as I do, but try not to have beverages around a flurry of electronics on your desk. It's a bad combo. Oh, and I got it on my hoodie. Oh no. I just yelled that into the microphone. I think I just clipped. Sorry. This is a pajama podcast. I'm way off off track here. So even for not being able to partake in all of the MWC a festivities one got that mad drip. It's still not like we haven't been playing with a fun of a lot of fun tech gear. Sorry, I'm way off. Okay, recovering now. So I do want to spend a little time and we can kind of chat this out. This is the new Xiaomi 13. Xiaomi PR sent this my way just so I can kind of take it on a test drive. I do want to point out that Xiaomi PR got me really hyped up about all of the amazing camera improvements coming to their new internationally released phone. And they sent me the 13. This is the smaller version of the 13 series. It's not the 13 pro. I'm very grateful to spend some time with this phone. It is a very nice phone. I would like to say it, it kind of wrenches a little bit some of the comparisons that I was planning because I have the vivo X 90 here, and I have the Xiaomi 12 S ultra. And so instead, I really feel like instead of going to MWC, what I'm going to be looking at doing is dedicating a chunk of our budget, if we eventually get an announcement on a Xiaomi 13 ultra, I don't think the ultra is going to go international. I think it's going to be a Chinese only variant of the phone again, just like the 12 S ultra was. And I really feel that needs to be one of the phones we focus on. So the 13 pro is unfortunately going to be sort of missing from that, but I'm going to be bookending the more sort of mainstream. This is the competitor against the Galaxy S 23, not the note 23, we've at least got some of those comparison points and we can kind of look through the spectrum. The food chain of more expensive and less expensive products. Yeah, Barry Johnson, no one inch sensor. So the Xiaomi 13, oh, I forget what sensor it is. I might actually be able to look it up. Barry usually memorizes this stuff better than I do. I always forget to track the actual sensor manufacturer and instead I just kind of memorize what size sensor it is. So it's a one over 1.49. So it's ever so slightly larger than the main camera sensor on a Galaxy S 23, but not in a way that I think you would immediately be able to see optical differences. It's kind of like the difference between the one plus ten pro and the one plus 11. The one plus 11 shrinks ever so slightly, but it's similar optical performance from the one plus ten pro. It's exactly the same size sensors, what's in the Galaxy S 23, Xiaomi did the opposite. They took the S 23 sensor and they went just a hair larger. So I think it's a Sony. Oh wait no, is it? No, I think it is a Sony. I think it's a Sony, I think it might be the IMX 800. Because there's also an Omni vision, that's the 32 megapixel, and there's also the Samsung ten megapixel on this as well. So this has camera sensors from all three major sensor manufacturers, Sony, Samsung, and Omni vision. But yeah, it's proving to be a handy little shooter. This is still very good. Exceedingly good camera performance for what we would think of as a mainstream kind of point and shoot photography option. exactly. I just needed to wait a second and I knew Barry would be able to pick that up. It is the IMX 800. Dave burns, one plus 9 pro is still the king. I mean, I feel like with some caveats, I feel like the 12 S ultra might still be the top overall photography performer, even against the 13 pro. But it's more in the companion sensors. The pixel telephoto is pretty good. The Xiaomi telephoto is a proper half inch. The one plus 9 pro has one of the largest ultra wides. Again, you start breaking down all of these little minutiae E details. But Xiaomi has something here that I think is kind of interesting in this Galaxy S 23 price tier. So I got to review, it's got 12 gigs of ram, a 256 gigs of storage, and internationally we're looking at pricing of around €999, which is right in line, with what we would expect to Galaxy S 23. It is like feature for feature super close. Similar 1080p display similar brightness, similar refresh rate, 120 hertz. Similar collection of cameras, though I think Samsung might be a little bit better at matching, like all the features, like if you want four K video at 60 frames per second, those little things might be a little bit better, but this has the IR blaster if you want to use it as a universal remote. And I kind of like the flat side design. So I'm holding this phone up, and I think we can all maybe, let's leave this to the chat. If you had to pick one phone that you think helped inspire the visual aesthetic of the Xiaomi 13, what phone and what manufacturer do you think Xiaomi was inspired by? On this phone. I'm just kind of curious. Just kind of spitballing. I'm sure I'm going to get a huge variety of replies to that question. That Xiaomi is looking at the competition from one major manufacturer. Who do we think that they might have just been like a stimulated by or inspired by?

"Customer service can be a little infuriating to deal with, but that doesn't change any of this equation. All right, I was going to go down the list of people in the chat. And like I said, I'm seeing some great names and some great faces. We got Cedric, Jay man, ER, Barry, Simon says hypno, Dave burns, Brian glaze. So many people, I'm missing my corcoran. I caught that comment, Al Sabah. Thank you so much for jumping in. Al, glad to see your face here. Gore lord, bray gray, bray gray was just kind of popping in to wave, but I think he's got me in on the background while he's trying to do real work. Snorkel, Ron Guido, JMX warrior, Raymond, Frank, Frank Gallo and Dave burns were the first two to pop in on the chat. Everybody, thank you so much for tuning in for joining. Oh, Brian glaze. I'm dealing with a bit of an illness, but I'm making it. I hope you're feeling okay, Brian, there's a lot going on right now. And it's been, I mean, not just like pandemic stuff, like the surge of other flu like and respiratory and stomach bugs. We had a stomach bug go through the house, and it burned out quick. I mean, you hear about like, oh, it's a 24 hour stomach flu. Boy, howdy did it drop all three of us? For about 20 hours. It was so gross. But it is saying, hey, John gow is saying, hey, Reaper. What's up, Reaper black? What's up? I'm glad to see you in the chat. And end dogs is also saying good morning too. So MWC is kicking off, we've got the first flurry of press releases and announcements coming out of Barcelona. One of the exciting trends is seeing Qualcomm and Xiaomi start talking about more augmented reality, Qualcomm setting out a reference design for an AR headset. Xiaomi also saying like, hey, we're going to be making a big play on AR also. It's a little silly, and it's a little frustrating. I love going to trade shows, but the sort of budget for getting out to a trade show can sometimes be a bit tricky. I've never been one to really lean heavily on sponsorships. One of the issues I have with sponsored travel to events like this is increasingly, especially for a channel my size because it's not like I've got 10 million subscribers and I can just write my own ticket and companies have to pay me just to show up. For a channel money size, now companies are increasingly leveraging your appearance just for their marketing. And I understand that and I get it. I'm kind of fine with it, but I have so much going on that I can't take a week to go to Barcelona and then only be sort of in the influencer group for one manufacturer. With limited access to the rest of the show floor. And right now, I'm looking at, well, if I book the travel and I send myself out there, I mean, I have a wonderful crew of people supporting me on Patreon, but that's like three or four devices that I can't buy if I fly myself out to MWC. And that's also other work here that I'm not going to get to participate with. So like it always seems to work out like it happened for CES this year and like it happened for MWC this year. I booked another job and it pays well. So I should stay and cover my mortgage instead of spending the budget a huge chunk of my budget for the year to go to MWC. So unfortunately, I've got to sit on the sidelines and watch from a distance and just kind of look at all the press releases. I didn't get to do all the fun pre briefs and go hands on with those new sexy AR glasses, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to kind of follow up after MWC and check some of this stuff out. Dave burns Juan documenting himself becoming a sellout. Yes, I like having a roof over my head and food to eat for the time I spend on my labor. I don't mean to sound like a nerdy socialist, but I do kind of enjoy profiting from the fruits of my labor.

But i think it was victim because writer runtime a google plus and google photos and it was great and it all worked together and all this stuff and a big part of it was that it was free. And as part of it being free you got. You got free high-quality uploads able to upload stuff at full res- and store there that's over so no more free high-quality uploads for most users upload begin to count against your google account storage. So those of you. Who if you look at the bottom left of your g mail and you see how much percentage storage you've taken up on. Google photos will count towards that and photos uploaded to your library prior to that today. Do not count against that quota only for new images going forward so there's not like retroactive billing or anything like that it just like this is the brave new world. You've got storage quota for google. That is g mail. G dr google photos all under one roof and if you need to expand that storage guess what you can pay like. Everybody else does so does this does this change. How much mu love google photos for you. Either view because google photos is one of those. Like right is one of those gems Yeah i consider it. Oppo find x3 pro review
"Embargo for the for the find x three pro lifted this morning this is okposo latest and greatest opo and oneplus share parent company. Bb case so there will be some overlap in what we talk about We don't know a lot about the oneplus series but what we know about the finance three pro. I think will dovetail nicely into the rumors for the oneplus nine. So let's start with you. Miriam you have this phone. It's oboe is not a brand name and north america yet. But i think it's becoming a bit more ubiquitous in europe where alex is you've reviewed one pl- or oboe phones for years now and you're you're among the first people to bring kind of these. Chinese brand opal vivo. Walkway into the purview of us audiences. So when you take a look at the x three pro. What's your first impression. Is this a phone that was made for a worldwide audience or is this more a phone that was made for a chinese audience. That is them being sort of adapted for the west. I think we're at the point now. Where i wanna odd xiaomi to your last i think yeah okay. I think we're the point. Where really these global launches of these phones the me levin from shami recently of course the oppo phoenix three pro and financial three series our global phones through and through. And i think that that's very exciting to me. Now we get the short end of the stick in north america. You're in canada. I'm in the us. Because we still don't get full five g support for our weird bands. And that means that i hesitate to recommend this phone to folks live on the north american continent of this time. I haven't tested the oppo yet on five g. here i'm hoping that as qualcomm becomes more omnipresent not that it isn't already but i mean in terms of its Band support for five g. sub. Six that we get eventually to a point where even buying global phone will just work on some bands in us. Kind of like four g. Lt. foams do and in canada. So i think these phones feel like truly global phones to me. I think that the biggest challenge the biggest obstacle that existed in the pass with these two years ago three years ago. If you imported one was the software. Felt very chinese in the sense that it was. It's like it's hard to explain. But there's a certain flavor to chinese phones if you've ever used one that doesn't have google services on it and that's changed radically. I think caller west which is what apple runs which is an on top of android is even closer now to oxygen. Which is what one plus has which makes sense. Bbq groups same company but in the past. That wasn't always the case. And i think xiaomi's done a very good job as well as an improving it appears to be more you know more universal to the global markets to customers in different countries. So i really have no qualms with this phone i think. It's it's a solid all-round flagship. It brings to the table some things we've never seen before and it on top of that. You know short of the five g support from north. America is a truly global phone so alex. You're the only person among the four of us that uses this phone. Where in the markets intended give us your overview of how fits into the uk european market. And what your first impressions are so whether fit into the market. Whether hoping to the mock i think is in the gap. The is currently in the process of being vacated by wa so there is a a room for another major player in europe and the uk. And i think that's that's where they plan to slow us into already seeing that taking advantage of always current challenges in china whether the now the the number one manufacturer but yeah i think in terms of just the quality the phone. It's it builds on what we saw in the next two pro in little ways last year But the my money this is a little bit of a one. Step forward one step back. Sort of a situation They're all the things. I really enjoyed about the findings to pro- And it it just seemed to have every angle sort of covered in terms of photography and a big part of that is super zoom telephoto in it. Yeah oddly something that a lot of brands of moving away from this year with the exception of while way sometime maybe xiaomi That's something i really miss. Unfor- photography scented phone that seems like a big emission. Especially when you have this weird microscope thing which is fun to play around with but is not going to have anywhere near the practical value In terms like dealer photography assume would get you So that's one sort of disappointments. That i have with it Made worse by the fact that. I'm not a massive found. The microscope The other side air you. i know this is. This is a one. A one point of conflicts on this phone denialism massive out of the microscope. But just before we get to that. The other thing is Find extra prolapsed yet no wireless charging is kind of becoming a table. Stakes feature ever since apple introduced is Now we finally have that but the battery life is just null. Great unstaffed That's the problem right When you getting in the region of twelve to thirteen hours In its its fooling over after about three and a half hours screen on you know especially for me coming from pixel five and show. I've been spoiled a little bit by that phone but Yeah it's haunted. Described the boundary line for this thing is anything but just a big disappointment for me. I would agree with that in the week or so that i've used it especially coming from the galaxy s twenty one pixel five. This is a big battery. that just doesn't perform like a big battery but were still a month out from launch and miriam. I know you haven't spent a ton of time with it but what's your impression of. I wanna come back to the camera. Because i think the the cameras a sort of a question mark for me. Every time i've spoken to one. Plus they give me different answers for why they made the decisions they did around the load out but the phone. Form factor right. They made a big deal about this single piece of glass on the back and how they machine did and you know burned it in killing at seven hundred degrees and puts a magic spell on it to keep its shape and all that. What's your impression of the form of this device. It's really interesting. And i think it's something that a lot of people it's pretty arresting to somebody who's looking at it from the back for the first time. Yeah i love the design. I think it's really unique. A middle worried that you know. It's like form over function in some way. Because i mean at this price point. What's the price anyway. Do we know eleven hundred pounds or twelve hundred years this price. That's fine but i like so gonna be a thousand like it's about the same as the next to last year pros last year. But he's a little bit cheaper but yeah that over thousand dollar price point. I'm okay with the crazy. You know wizards type approach to making the thing with thousands of hours of manufacturing time. Whatever it might be. I think it looks really cool. I've got the kind of grayish color. One agree dark rate lack. I don't know what color that is. But it's looking at a mirror. The whole thing is one piece. It's very cool. My my thing is that i'm really happy. They added wireless charging. That was the thing that i wanted to make a final to pro my daily driver austere and it up with of course oneplus eight pro which is count like again you know the oneplus nine pro is going to be a dead ringer of this phone. So no surprise there like in many ways so the reason i couldn't do it because what trudging was missing. Now that's been remedied by battery life. I haven't tested yet. So i don't know but it might be a result of trying to run everything at one twenty hertz and quad hd. I feel that. If i have to compromise somewhere it's resolution usually my eight pro oneplus a prior run at ten eighty p right and probably run the oneplus nine pro and switched to it at ten pm. Pretty convinced. i'm going to switch to it so wait you're of all the phones that you've used including the galaxy s twenty one. You're still using the eight pro. Is your daily driver. Oh yeah no. Don't i don't want to switch to off and i have so many ops to reinstall and set up a one once a year thing and i have to pick wisely right last year. I decided that i was going to wait. For the pixel five and so i hung hoed with the pixel forty or whatever four acceler my pocket for a while and then i realized that the pixel five was giving giving me what i want and the four or five g was actually the better form but didn't have wireless charging in my opinion so then i went said. I need to make a decision. So i went eight pro and the reason for that is i want i want wanna pixel essentially but i wanna flagship right. So what's the closest you can get to that. You can't get a flagship from google anymore. Anyway i digress but back to the quickey unfortunately have just to go as soon but i feel that for me. What surprised me. The most is the telephone okay. I couldn't get numbers on this. Is it three x two x two x optical and switch to x optical with five x figs. Zoom whatever hybrid. That's hybrid probably looks okay at five x hybrid but probably know better than one hundred eight megapixel. That's trying to do five x kinda like the eleven right. Yeah these over the past It's just fine. I is is fine of five but go beyond five. It's a bit yeah. We had a paris copa. Like five x right. That was different from the oneplus. Eight pro which only had like three x telephoto. So i think the teleph- the the lack of the telephoto disappearing from almost everyone's phones except for you know an iphone doesn't really count because there's only two axe to me. Anything that's to excellence doesn't count. It has to be three more. And ideally it needs to have two of them like the s twenty one ultra or the. We p forty pro plus. Which was my darling camera phone last year. Despite the lack of gm's so you see. That's the reason. Part of the reason daniel that i went with the pro because i knew that if i needed a better camera just pull out a weiwei. P forty plus and carry that with me right and so so then. I guess the party question that i would ask is what would it take for the financial three pro to be your daily driver over the nine. The oneplus nine pro. Because they are so similar to things. And i want that i feel. Actually this might take away from this. Phone is that oppo is holding back for an ultra version. Yes that was my conspiracy theories. Well i feel like we're like because everybody's doing more than a pro. Now i feel that apple is exploring that ultra premium end. And he's gonna come out with a special edition of this phone. That will have a proper periscope telephoto. But what would make me switch would be more see right now. Could live with a two x telephoto. If it's any good. I don't know off to try it but i think for me. It's five g support simply. Because i'm on t. mobile in the us and it's actually beneficial in terms of network coverage for me it's not really beneficial terms of speed by re does give me slightly better performance in some fringe situations and that would be my big. My big request bought the other thing. That i'm interested intrigued. Bob because i haven't really had chance to tessies. Cameras yet. Is their choice of using the two identical fifty megapixel. I am seven six six sensors on the ultrawide and the main to get perfect color. Matching 'cause how's that worked out for you guys so interesting thing. That is the you in theory. That is what happens. But then you have the ai thing that's turned on. Which can you run. I'm not sure by default but if you use it You know it's very useful things in some situations but if you use it then you can get radically different looking switching between the two lenses if you don't have the tent on yet is obviously much closer as a parting thought. I have a feeling that while last year's apple finds pro would have been my choice for that time period of the year that first half of the year until the no twenty ultra came out. Which was my darling phone of the fall. But i switched to it because i was lazy. And of course he has twenty ultra. now is a pretty solid choice for photography. I think until until then until the eight pro last year the findings to pro choice other than wireless charging and five jeep but this year. I'm much more convinced that all want the oneplus nine pro. That's your segue as i'm leaving because for me. The one plus nine pro. F- i don't know all of the details yet but that hassle partnership has me intrigued and more importantly i know it's going to support all the bands properly in the us. And it's going to have wireless charging which i need and it's going to be a slightly smaller phone. I think this year which. I'm very happy about because the eight cross a freaking monster of a beast. It's too big for me over there. So i think the x three profiles held back to me somehow. Apple is i can know what apple can do and be group and this is very good by this. This aversion to telephoto in chinese phones right now xiaomi's doing it too is driving me nuts. I don't get it i want all of it. I don't care about microscope. it's cool. I don't care about a macro because an ultra wide can do macro like it is on this phone. It is on one plus pro phones

There actually was one and I don't know if this was a a black, a black half, a checkpoint software revealed Achilles, which is a nasty flaw in the qualcomm snack. snapdragon. I've got snacks my mind after our. Joyful Conversation I snap dragon chip These vulnerabilities affect forty percent of the android market include funds from Google Samsung LG Xiaomi one plus. And more there are patches. Thank God was is a black hat revelation Robert. That was actually a Defcon I'm trying to bring up the slide deck. One of the things that was different about DEFCON. This year was the fact that they provided all of the talks ahead of time. Nice because they're all prerecorded, and so you've got the slide decks. You've actually got the videos. You've got the right up the white papers. That one was was particularly interesting. The talk was hard to follow because the researcher. Definitely wasn't English as a first language. But as you go through, you realize what he's doing. He was able to take complete control of an android device and you could do in such a way that the person using the android device wouldn't actually know. Route control of his device. That's terrible. he is. Now it says it's opponent own qualcomm compute DSP for fun and profit. It's not the current crop of snapdragon chips. Right, it's an older chip. So if you have a phone, you bought in the last couple of years, you're okay. There are patches, but this is the problem, the older you're on the less likely. You're going to get patches. and. It's not necessarily even the older phones because you have to remember when you're talking about a billion plus devices that are sold every year. A lot of those are low cost devices and low cost devices will use these older chips. Yeah. It's a forty percent of the overall smart smartphone market. So this is a lot of phones. that. Need the patch that many of which will not get the patch there six flaws and they give you complete an absolute control. Of those ones how do you get it on their way? Is it with malware with a with a malicious? APP, for instance? the. Yeah. So. There were a couple of ways that they were shown the the one that I was looking at was actually not publicly available. It was a demonstration that was shown to me. Actually part of DEFCON is the the discord they started up this discord that has all of the. Only. Meet throughout the conference and. Organiz. Yeah. Yeah. Just like it would be if you were actually walking through, they have a wall of sheep discord. Gentle. Yes? Yes. Although it's harder to do if you're not there. Yeah spot the Fed on the discord extreme, right? Like it's not just a militias install, you can target it through video street, you're kidding wrecked. Surrender. On the chip, any incoming content. Oh. My God. So this is A. This is A. This is one that you would clutch your pearls. Unforgiving and I think every silicon engineer has this sort of in the back of their nightmare brain because once you well, we saw that with the meltdown inspector, the flaws until chips once it's in hardware. Mitigation is not easy and and more importantly. especially in the world of Android may not there may be no, no cavalry will come or the untouchable. Jailbreak we saw we saw last year for older iphones to it, right.

I want to give you the floor to like talk about like your your Samsung situation. I think everyone Samsung Situation. Is Different. Like I I went to the launch event. I didn't see you there. Because everyone's launch events are different You guys had a unique room to the side where everyone could go and get videos and pictures in peace. While I was in the main hall with I think like four thousand people in that room trying to get video and pictures And unfortunately it was terrible lighting right all the the lighting was horrible and you've been to launch events multiple times where the lighting is just bad. Essentially they find a the darkest facility they could ever find with no natural light at all then they turn down all the lights and then they proceed. Put Spotlights on the devices so you have this incredible like three thousand to one contrast ratio between. What's dark and what's light? Then into that mix they throw in blue like Samsung's blue neon color. They have led lights with blue shining here and there and it's just horrible especially that blue because cameras don't like that blue at all and so whenever you all of my photos to actually caught that blue makes it look like there is no contrast to that at all. It's either one solid blue like there's no gradient to it at all and it's just horrible but as far as devices go. I'm still without a Samsung Galaxy. Flip I'm without a Samsung Galaxy s? Twenty ultra which everybody in the world seems to have or at least a select few. Unfortunately I'm not on that list So you'll have to enlighten us about the amazing things that this phone can do. Well besides my you know our with the phone at the launch event a week and a half ago. I'm I'm still sitting here like everybody else without a phone. Well it's funny because like we we talk about like the creative side Youtube and of tech blogging quite a bit To give a peek behind the curtain. You and I both have published what we'll call complaints video. Okay I have. I have this thought that I should stop saying the word complaints because it creates such a visceral reaction like I might change it to like the word concerns instead especially if it's a phone that's not released yet because people can have this notion in their heads but obviously youtube rages very potent and very real thing But Yeah we we actually have talked about it a little bit and now that I'm actually using the phone. I have to admit that and this is my final review always is whether or not my complaints or concerns actually pan out and I got to say so far maybe like three of five three or five or still three five actually have panned out. They have been problems. Like I don't like the color selection of s twenty ultra. It really makes me upset when they show so much love to the other phones but the one that everyone really wants you kind of just stuck with what they give you which is usually black and the thankfully though they send the gray one out to people so it actually looks a little bit different but I just immediately put like a case on it anyway. The front facing camera is okay so I did take some forty megapixel shots with the front facing camera and they seem quite highly detailed after all when you use the sensor for whatever reason. Samsung can't tack on their software on top. So it's not it doesn't have the beautification doesn't have any of the extra stuff is just raw photo. And the same goes for the one hundred eight megapixel front facing camera. I would love to see like more than one. They're like we're putting six seven eight cameras on the back of phones. Why can't we get a little bit more for the front so that that is still a complaint that I have but yeah like my main thing is just the price I'm still. I'm lucky enough to be able to use this fun and be able to send one out but I still can't shake the feeling that a lot of what. This phone has is Bo guarding at all? Because it would be great to have the one eight megapixel on the smallest phone. Just there's no reason. Yeah and there's no reason because Xiaomi came out last fall with essentially the same sensor Samsung and Xiaomi collaborated on the sensor. I think the one. That's in the ultras a little bit different than the ones Xiaomi released. But you know it's been a couple of months so it's gotten a little bit better. Yeah but this Xiaomi phone was what you know an eight hundred dollar phone yeah and it and it had. It's palpable in terms of not palpable. It's more accessible in terms of he feel and handling and whatnot. And you don't need a telescopic lens like you just don't and it's a nice party trick and I'll admit that ten times zoom on the ultra has been kind of. Nice tweet yesterday about how I wanted to do this whole story in video and just say like you ever walk in just you know. The streets are in nature or anything like that you see a squirrel and you. WanNa like run up to it and it runs away when you get within like like ten feet of it. Yeah Ten fifteen feet. And they're gone right. Yeah exactly I saw one in the Burrito which is where I went to get like neutral shots and I stood there now. Oh there's a squirrel over there is a fat one two and I was just like okay. Let's see what happens here so I went five times. Okay not too bad ten times. That's better thirty times and IT WAS RIGHT UP. On the the Squirrel filling the screen phillies screen and the problem. Though is that the moment you get over ten times you start it's digital zoom or hybrids and whatever you WANNA call it and it it starts to lose quality so it's like how useful can something like that truly. Be You know if if Samsung any other manufacturers do these zooms are trying to tell you that. Oh you know those people with the huge like safari lenses on Lars. You can have that on the phone and no you. Yeah exactly well. And so like the last couple days as everybody got the s twenty ultra they. Everyone was posting their pictures of you. Know Ultra wide standard ten x zoom. One hundred zoom and I I was going through everybody's pictures and clicking on them and of course they're all uploaded to twitter which already compresses the file. So you're not getting the full resolution. But I I went to look at the files and looked at their ten x zoom and then looked at their hundred x zoom and then zooming in to the ten x zoom the picture quality. The resolution was the same. Because that's actually what it is as two hundred x zoom so. I'm like this marketing thing that they're having with the one hundred. X Zoom is just horrible because they actually print it on the back of the phone. It says doesn't it say one hundred x on the camera and it's like I can. I can take any phone and crop in and say one hundred x right. It's not and with my video that I did about the you'll have an ultra actually called it. Ta- five reasons why you shouldn't by this phone and one of them was for the hundred x zoom because it's just a marketing gimmick. That's all it is thought the tenax looks good. I like I I really WANNA try. The ten acts in a certain situations like my daughter. She's eight years old. She just started playing basketball this last year at the community center. She's on a little team and where we have to sit while we're at their practices and their Games is. I'm hundred fifty feet away from where they're actually playing because they're you know it's three courts and they're one court over and so. I can't get really close having that ten x zoom in that situation for recording video as she's playing her game would be amazing on a smartphone. But other than that. It's like you know. When would I actually be using ten x zoom you know on a day-to-day basis if I'm on vacation that's one thing like if I'm going out and you know trying to get picture of some attraction or something that we're never gonna see ever again and trying to get that photo but other than that you know? There's there's not that many situations were ten x zoom actually comes in handy. That's why you don't see it that often even with actual DSL are zoom lenses. It's really not fair that often. And if it is it's really

Samsung's Galaxy S20 lineup packs better cameras, battery life and built-in 5G
"Samsung's doesn't have a monopoly of five G.. Radio's no finds out. They're going to have a flagship the they just put out that. I watched the video. You Know Marcus Brownlee has is the TAB use I like. His videos did a review of that the ultra version so cool ridiculous eighteen hundred dollars. But my God's mad that's under an eight megapixel cameras now. He's nutty. What does that even read a hundred times? Obstacles to 'em writes in and says with the announcement that Microsoft Samsung are quote just beginning their partner their gaming partnership. Where do you think we could end up in the next few years X.? Cloud being installed on every new Samsung phone in TV would would be a huge moves for excessive millions of new potential customers according to the Tister Status Santa Statistics hitter. I've never heard of that The same thing held almost nineteen percent global market share in the smartphone market in q four. That's impressive when you consider how fragmented the ANDROID world is. There's so many there's so many options but yeah I mean I have a galaxy S. ten and I feel like I'm presuming. Samsung is the biggest player in Agile. Yeah that's that that would be my assumption check on that I mean. Maybe it's maybe it's wall way or something you know the US in the US. At least I would Samsung's gotta be that'd be my assumption but maybe there are like there might be some other being fracture and you're wrong because he was like look into it for us like cheaper prices or something and according attack. Samsung is the largest manufacturer with over twenty percent of the market this xbox in the hands of more potential players than playstation now access on Sony smartphones phones and televisions could is this the beginning of strategic mismatch for playstation. What other elements of this partnership? Do you think are possible. And do we think that this is a move for for Microsoft a hedge against stadia integration into into Google Pixel devices and Android more broadly. Thanks and have a great Wednesday. I mean I think it would. It would be to Samsung's advantage advantage to say. Hey and Samsung. Phones are the only place to GATT Microsoft cloud or at least the premium version of the experience. Yes if you have. I'm an xbox game. I'm an iphone Guy and I'm an xbox consoles. I slightly prefer the xbox and if Samsung would just say hey. We're the only company with the only phone that you can get premium excellent experience. I mean I wouldn't. I wouldn't do it. I would never have an android phone but I I would. I would like maybe I'll be at least on the fence about it. That would be. I think the idea of every Samsung device coming preinstalled with xbox thanks cloud right. I think that'd be a huge win and even in a month question here. He's referencing competition against playstation playstation. Now I think they're like as far as competition in this base base. I think playstation now is barely a factor. I think could be a factor in the future if he's not continue continues to improve and continues to android phone manufacturers Samsung the way behind why behind arms made their names. I don't know Xiaomi all PO and companies did you really think about because it because this is outside of the. US can you do it just by the US. Wild Wide World Wide Ham logic. I've never even heard of L. G.. Motorola Rollo Sony's down there. I mean Samsung is like far too. Why that same forty three point six percent of the android space and that does make sense it would be like ninety percent of the once you factor in the IPHONE? iphones a good chunk of them. Okay yeah totally. Three percent of the android market equals like ninety percent of the phone market overall role. Right yeah and so with that idea in mind just running away with it makes complete sense. What this partnership is out here? Did for exclusively though because even yeah like even though Samsung is the number one player ninety percent of the overall market is not enough. Right you want to be an old. Of course yeah. I don't think like I don't think this article Michael Mentions exclusivity anywhere I didn't I didn't get a hint of any anything pointing toward the idea that they're going to be exclusive but the idea that they could have a deal where you are getting Samsung devices like Samsung. TV's amount at Biltrite as the TV. That's yeah that's compelling right there and they they won't be exclusive but they can say this is with us. If you have a Samsung device this will offer the best experience. Yeah I think that I think that messaging for them go a long way and I think that is what makes this partnership make complete sense But yeah as far as like them communing with. Let's see. Is this beginning. Is this the beginning of strategic mismatch for playstation. I think it's already been kind of a strategic mismatch when the GECKO playstation. Now didn't necessarily have. What does that mean a strategic mismatch for playstation? I think I think we aim on is getting at. Is the idea that this would but then when you look at the numbers compared to say Sony phones and Sony. TV's like Samsung Wars. Those numbers is I think. That's why am I getting that but I think that's uh I think that's a problem. Because he is the thing so stadia has a natural partner with android and more specifically Pixel Pixel phones right. Yes you understand why. That's all kind of under one roof. Yeah Microsoft doesn't have any presence in the phone mark any anymore anymore. They tried and they failed now. They're just out said where we will support android now. So it makes sense for them to Partner with the number one player in the Android Loyd market Sony has a natural partner in its consumer electronics division. But like they but that's small time. Yeah that's who has a Sony phone. WHO has a Sony? TV Not that many people. Yeah that's the thing they need to. They might need to find Nick's donal partner and that's why I think like this is less than competition with Sony. Lean more in competition with stadia. If anything right like stadium having like Google Google Pixel being a thing not nearly as big of a thing as Samsung with with android right and Google stadia kind of having a certain amount of mindshare with the streaming space. I think that's where the competition is at. Even though it seems things warm more by the day stadium kind of eating their lunch right. They're kind of tripping over their own their own feet with each passing passing kind of decision in new story. We see about stadia not working or making bad decisions or doing. Ama's that don't tend to work out well for them like project. X Cloud seems to be doing all the right things. And you know there's even another news story coming up about another streaming beaming service that you know there this this space currently is kind of messy and it's kind of fun to watch because we're seeing people kinda climb over each other and try try to become at that number one spot Whether it is in like mindshare or like even in the partnerships and actually getting the absolute on whatever devices you have whether you like it or not so far. It seems like X. Cloud and I'd say probably INVIDIA G. Force are kind of Invidia G. for surprisingly are kind of like the two front runners for what services are going to end up successful in this thing but even then like I could see I could see a feature where like nobody. Nobody comes out on top because this str- streetlight video game streaming is still hasn't become as many thing yet. You know what I mean. You know. It's it's going to be enough. Another iteration of the platform was you know. There's no one clear I mean. Seventy is kind of a clear winner right now but Mike still really in the game. Nintendo's obviously a very Bigger deal than the newsletter three-horse three very healthy horses in that in that race. Maybe maybe Sony need to give Tim Cook a call. Do an exclusive collusive Team Up. Hey the best way to get the best way to get an exclusive playstation experience playstation streaming is on the iphone really think about it apple and Microsoft all rivals. They can't work together. I don't take Samsung and apple arrivals. They can't work together. Sony Oni and apple though they don't have any particular beef. Maybe they team up for this. I'm not crazy. There are Sony phones right. Yes see they run android. Yes the Sony. Only have a tiny daily advertiser are some of the most beautiful phones. Go from every time I see the new Soni you need the experience I still have. Those new ones are those. The industrial design on Sunday finds gorgeous. Yeah they they have always run like shit. Yeah that's the problem. Suli run shit that being said the latest one that came out which I can't remember the model number now but like that phone Enforce it doesn't work for sprint. Otherwise they'd be the phone I used. It's the prettiest screen of ever seen on a phone gorgeous. Yeah they're still plugging away but not the playoffs does not work with sprint. So that's the point. They they need they need to either. Just put it out there equally for. Everyone say he will support all devices or they need or they need a partner. This thing with monks outta pondering Samsung Apple might be their best bet. I could see it number two jeff. Kelly is it producing e-3 coliseum. This year this comes directly from Jeff keeleys twitter twitter. He tweeted this as I was prepping the show and as he tweeted thing where he types out a note in the note the note screen shot and posted image of it and so I'll read it verbatim. He he writes a statement from Jeff. Keely on E. I've I've debated what to say about e three twenty twenty while I I I want to support the developers who will showcase their work. I also need to be open and honest with you. The fans about precisely what to expect from me. I've made the difficult decision to decline to to produce e three. PM for the first time. In twenty five years I will not be participating in e three look forward to supporting the industry and other ways and other of and at other events in the future

How Coronavirus is affecting MWC 2020
"GSA UPDATE ON CORONA virus. That is the subject line of an email that was sent out to registered attendees for Mobile World Congress in Barcelona which is happening in just a few weeks. Hello everybody and welcome to the pocket now. Weekly podcast hosted by yours truly judge of Gara. What's going on everybody all right? So we're GONNA get a little bit more abundant this particular episode because yes we have to talk about the corona virus which has literally affected so many portions of the world and various various different sectors including tech. Now I'm sure that most of you are aware of the different stories that have come out of Baku Rona virus in general but there were some very interesting stories stories that happened within the last week or so in regards to the different people who are going to be exhibiting at Mobile Congress. Obviously you're listening to the pocket. Weekly podcast so you are probably aware of what NWC is it is literally one of the most important shows throughout every single year where mobile technology is given the centerstage pretty much every company that has a hand in the creation of smartphones tablets wearables infrastructure five G. tend to go to Mobile World Congress and many of their big announcements happened in Barcelona. People like myself in high Rivera and many of the people that you know in the tech world go to the show every every single year and it is generally a very good time. Barcelona is a wonderful city With a lot of character and actually mobile world congress as far as the venue is concerned. The fear of our CELONA is one of the coolest venues when it comes to these shows that we go to every year but this year. It's going to be incredibly difference because with the News Corona virus spreading in China and in certain parts around the world. A lot of people have had to make the executive decisions to either attend or opt out of of 'em. WC without naming names. I know a few people who actually opted out of going. And it's going to be a bummer. Not Seeing them in Barcelona as it is basically a tradition for all all of us tech friends to get together at this show and I know a couple of other publications that have actually been giving their people some early notice that if they don't want to go to Barcelona they can actually say so. And of course this all started when the corona virus first sprouted in the WHO Bay province of China particularly the epicenter. Being a place is called Wuhan that is part of mainland China but because of the level of travel that we have in today's society and today's High-tech Society. Let's say there are people both traveling from so many places around the world that not only would people from that province moved to many other places via air travel and whatnot. They're also many visitors. Who might my end up going to? Who Bay province and they are also part of this huge quarantine or huge tracking of people who might be affected by this corona virus us? And as you're going to hear later from the email that I mentioned at the beginning of this episode Whether or not you have actually stepped foot near or in Wuhan Matters. But let's just talk for a little bit about the impact that the GM A has on the mobile industry. Mobile Congress is like I said one of the biggest shows of of the year it is one of what we call the Big Three Ceus. 'EM WC and EPA in Berlin. You're all aware of CAS which just happened about a month ago. And then Eva In Berlin happens usually every September near the end of the year when some final announcements are happening but at the beginning of the year basically in the first quarter. This is when you set the precedent precedent for the rest of the calendar year at 'EM WC by announcing some really big devices in Barcelona back in the day Samsung used to use. WC The as the jump off point for their galaxy S. line they used to go to 'em WC with the new devices but overtime Samsung decided to hold their own shows. Handy events Of course now we call those unpacked. And those are the shows that Samsung uses in order to announce the new devices but pretty much every other company attends Hans Nwc along with thousands upon thousands of other exhibitors to show off their latest updates to just highlight some of the big names. You have everyone from Xiaomi. A two Vivo and honor to Qualcomm Lenovo Motorola sick imagine how everybody felt when. LG One of the most recognizable names and mobile tag decided to pull out and of M W C completely. There's a certain hall in the fear of the venue for Mobile World Congress where all of the phone manufacturers tend to sort of clump together. And it's there that you can walk from qualcomm and just maybe take a two minute stroll over to Samsung and from Samsung you can take a quick stroll over to lg but now that huge huge portion of that hall LG tends to take. It's just going to be empty. It remains to be seen. What would happen with these particular companies booths and spaces basis now that they're not actually going to be there? But of course there are varying degrees to which companies are actually taking themselves out of the show Z.. T. E. announced that they wouldn't be at the show show but what that actually meant was they. Were not going to do a press conference but they would still have a booth and have representation on the show. Floor Ericson would then follow suit as the next company to to leave Mobile World Congress over concerns of the corona virus. Ericsson a name that you might remember from these Sony Ericsson days of those particular. Let's say dump phones as it was before the smartphone. smartphone era is still a major player in telecommunications and probably the biggest blow to GSI may so far when it comes to 'em WC. Andy's exhibitors was invidia video announcing that they would no longer be attending the show. This one's a big one because according to the verge in video was going to host ten sessions and actually have a place called the a innovation center now I have seen Invidia at a number of different shows and they always talk about the power of their cards and processors especially in terms of ai and and videos AI is starting to pop in so many different places even beyond computing and mobile They actually started talking about autonomous driving and getting into the five G. Game but the market detail here is that nvidia was also a major sponsor of the conference in general and they have partnered with the conference to have a bunch of different sessions every single year. But it's probably the biggest headline mainly because video was one of the major sponsors of 'em. WC Twenty twenty on top of everything that they were supposed to be hosting the fact that they okay and three other companies so far at the recording of this episode have pulled out of mobile world. Congress means that all of the topics they have been part of are no longer going to be in the discussion. There's going to be less. Ai There because of invidia less mobile devices because of LG Z.. T. Not having a major presence anymore and of course on the telecommunication side when it comes to Business Ericsson not being their means that they are out of the conversation during the show as well but that doesn't stop the fact that we you're still going to 'EM WC and WC is still going to happen after all there are still so many companies that will indeed be there and they will feel the conversations even if there's going to be a little bit less of a crowded space ticket for what you will but aside from Z.. T. E.. A lot of the major Chinese companies are still planning on attending and they are going to have have not only press conferences but major major updates to many of their products during the Barcelona show.

But you know Kinda like the vessels look a little. I don't know maybe a little dated dated. I don't know well I guess we'll see when we see it in person but I can imagine they've been working on this for a long time. Yeah the show. The Basil's alert probably going to be a little dated. "Glued to the fact that you know we connected active. When he was a great sales success I was? I was challenged as as a executive. A sales professional as an entrepreneur wasn't hitting the sales marks that I wanted to hit hit and I got the gentle kick under the table. That said you know what is it that you're believing about your sales process and saying just exactly what where he said there The salesperson I don't WanNa be salesperson. Sales people are stinky. salespeople are dirty sales people need to go take a shower like all these things and Eric challenged me back to say you know. You're believing leaving those things work at the results. You're getting you're getting smelly results. 'cause you think salespeople are smelly and so I had the opportunity to then dive into my beliefs and go look get you know if I'm GONNA believe in my product mindfloness. I'm going to believe in my keynotes. My coaching might buy memberships. I have to get out and share the value of those and I- recalibrated my own relationship with the sales process in order to write this book with Eric and still Xiaomi Laurenti stress less that we have the opportunity to own blocks and in the book every week. Those little tips showed me how I could weave the two together to be better for myself better for my clients and and then again this idea of intention setting you know if I was going into a hates it. Bug Let Xiaomi Security Cameras Access Images From Other Cameras
"Police noticed that a user on reddit called. Do V. so so that there shall meet Mahia piece smart. Ip Security Camera was showing still images that appear to be from other people's homes. The images appeared when they tried to stream from their camera to google hub. Do vetoed the verge. They saw somebody's porch. They saw a man sleeping in a chair. It's all a sleeping baby in a crib. So's personal stuff here. Google issued a statement saying quote. Were aware of the issue and are in contact with me to work on effects in the meantime or disabling Xiaomi integrations on on our devices Jami has since the verge the issue had to do with the cash update meant to improve streaming quality. Also said it's fixed. The bug will will not resume. Dan Nest integration until the root cause has been completely solved. Yeah so this is fairly unsettling As I said but it didn't happen with Jamie's owned an APP so you can still use that it was only with the nest. Integration which is one of the few companies to get certified for that nest integration these days as in order to protect security. I this wasn't a breach wasn't an attack. It was just a weird bug and it was fairly rare. It wasn't like hundreds of thousands of people were seeing these images but it it was out there and it was a little weird creepy. Showed some of the pictures and they were all kind of distorted and kind of like a Japanese horror film. They're digitized and if it wasn't bad enough that your personal information your pictures and your home being exposed. They're being exposed in a very creepy way. It was definitely talked about on this story
