"As a man who owns a little just a little taste of Jaguar's money line, I feel like this is gonna tempt me a little too much. Let's hear it. 13 to one. Yeah, that's a lot. It's too much. That is a highlight. Because I could totally see the chiefs going up 17 7 and a half time and then the Jags come back and basically like the Dallas game. The problem with that is this is that if the Jags are going to be losing at halftime and then win the game, they better take the lead in the fourth quarter with one second or less on the clock. Right. It better be the last play because now we're talking about mahomes from behind at home in the division round of the playoffs where he's just been lights out. Coming off of a buy they've been incredible in the divisional round. Andy Reid off of a buy historically has been incredible. And so I love it. I think the Jags and because their coaches Doug Peterson, they have a little bit of that Andy Reid DNA. They're good off of rest and they're good in the screen game. You have some similarities. So I like them a lot, surging in the fourth quarter. Like I'm not scoring late, but the moment they take the lead, I like the chief surging late. Then you laugh at the cheese. That's the tough part. Do you worry that the chiefs tease is just too glaringly obvious, especially as the first game where it's like, oh, bang out, chiefs and that part for me. Yeah, I don't like chiefs teas. I have a Jags tease leg on this game. I like Jags to use a lot more because she's in the Jags the other way. Yeah, teasing them down because let's say the chiefs go up 24 nothing in 28 nothing and let's say this is a bloodbath halfway through the second quarter. Firstly we know this Jack seems to show up and fight because they were just there last week and they won it. So they're gonna come and swinging. And secondly, even if this game is kind of decided in the fourth quarter, somebody that Jackson come back, Lawrence is gonna be playing. They're still gonna be throwing him and shooting because they want the experience. They want the reps for Lawrence in this environment, right? So I think like Jags getting a T's line down where you're getting two touchdowns in there. That's tasty. Do you know Doug Peterson's record as a playoff underdog? 5 and one, I want to say straight up. How about 6 and O 6? Don't tap me with a good time. Oh, I love the Jackson. Do you know Andy Reid? Lost playoff games his favorites? Just at home in 2016, 1718 and 21. That one I didn't know. Well, the thing about that list largely ending after 2018 is if memory serves, there's a quarterback change at that time that kind of changed things for the chiefs a little bit. But it was 21, too. How about you got 12 months ago? What about that? Well, we'll see if Lawrence has got burrow ice in his veins. I'm not ready to say that just yet. I can't believe I like the Jags. Part of it is I've watched the chiefs all year dick around. It's a dick around team. And you're like, come on, man. Put these guys away. And then I said, oh, no, it's a 27 to 24 game, and it's just, and that's also who the Jaguars are or it's like, I thought you guys were dead. Wait, you're still alive? All right, next matchup. All right, so we're going yet. In game order, then this is eagles giants. And the big match up here is Jalen hurts. Health question mark in parentheses against the blitz. We talked about it. I think before on this show, certainly we've talked about it on the ring on a fell feed. The blitz has been the issue for the eagles this year. Hertz right now in the league 22nd quarterback and EPA per play against the blitz. He is a sacred against the blitz of 9%, which the league average saccharide is 8%. So Jalen hurts, even as mobile as he is, is sacked more often when blitzed, then the average NFL quarterback. And that's a very, very big deal. But this isn't going to matter against the Giants because they don't have a defensive coordinator that likes to blitz it all. Oh, there we go, Bill, 40% blitz. Martindale, leads the league the next closest at 35%. Not only does wink blitz more than anybody, he blitzes more than anybody and then some. And when they play the eagles in week 14, you guys take the week 18 game of throne out, right? Giants all the backups in. In week 14, they were about average in terms of their blitz rate, but the problem was they had no a door to Jackson, who's their best corner and knows Xavier McKinney, who's their best safety. So Nick mccloud was playing a Rodrigues Williams replying. And the eagles just went hunting, right? I mean, any time they wanted to match up, AJ Brown on the slot, get him on Nick McLeod, get him on roderick Williams, throw a touchdown. They had no issues handling those matchups. They're not gonna get them this week. The other thing that's important is because the Giants were thin at corner thin it at safety. They were thin in the secondary in that game. When the eagles went heavier personnel, two tight ends on the field, the Giants matched with base with three linebackers. The Giants linebackers are perhaps the worst unit I have seen enter a playoff in years, right? We got Jalen Smith, who's still around. Jared Davis also still around Micah mcfadden rookie. This is the linebacking core. These guys are a massive liability defensively. TJ hawkinson had a career year for excuse me, a career day, for a reason. And so, all right, you have your better depth in the secondary. Wink's gonna be more aggressive. Blitzing because he feels more confident with his match ups. He's not gonna lose in man coverage as much. However, if you're now leaving 5 defensive backs on the field, when the eagles go too tight ends and critically they'll have Dallas got it for this game. Now we have a running game question. Eagles average like 8 yards of carry on early downs against this giant steam and week 14 with those poor linebackers. And so even if you're good players on the field, you get a Dory back. You get Xavier back. Now you're light against a really good eagles running team. That's why the health question mark for Jalen hurts is really important because if you have a full gamut of Jalen hurts runs, they feel okay with his shoulder getting hit. It's gonna be a challenging day on the ground for the Giants, even with Leonard Williams back in wood Dexter Lawrence playing as well, so he does. If you have a question mark Jalen hurts, if you have an 80% Jalen Hertz, well now the running game is a little bit more simple and now the scales are a little bit more balanced, but God is my witness. If the eagles have as easy of a time running against the Giants in this week as they did in week 14, we're going to turn this game off in the third quarter. I mean, it's going to be lights out. So the blitz and then the Leonard Williams in that week, 14 game, right? Yeah. And the eagles were really effective running off the edge in that week 14 game. They said, Dexter Lawrence, I do not want to deal with Dexter Lawrence. I will run it nowhere near Dexter Lawrence down block double team and we're getting to see gap. We're getting outside. That's where Leonard Williams has to be a really impactful player. Critically, as these ojal Laurie, who's their second edge, not cave on thibodeau, really good run defending defensive end. He's out. He's not been practicing this week. Seems like he might be out. That's a big loss for the Giants. Eagles are going to try to run to the boundary all game long. Let's go with a different matchup from this game. Danny dimes against the psyche of eagles fans. Have you hit the point?

"We'll see the status of a Dory Jackson. But Xavier McKinney did miss the first game, obviously those are the top two cover cornerbacks at this team, has on their roster. Fabian Moreau is out there getting torched like a traffic cone allowed a 142 rating against him at 84 yards in coverage. You look at Dexter Lawrence, the contributions he can make. I thought Xavier McKinney's comments about Justin Jefferson were rather interesting, a full blown bulletin board material about saying he puts on his clothes. We do the same thing. We've got really good defensive backs and I'm not worried about it at all. Kirk Cousins, pain for all of his trials and tribulations was very good against the Giants league leading blitz rate, the first time around, finished 14 to 21 passer rating north of a 120. And when he wasn't blitzed, I mean, you're talking about a passer rating that was sub 100. Obviously, this is a giant team though that should be able to generate more pressure knowing that another thing that's changed from the first meeting is the Vikings offensive line that had been a model of consistency most weeks. Gonna look significantly different in this spot than it did back in week 16. Yeah, I mean, that's bang on and that's what will be a key factor here in that the Giants defense rested their guys last week. Couple guys were dealing with some injuries, but you're going to get much healthier. Aziz and Leonard Williams are going to play McKinney back at safety. Williams, Dory Jackson returned to practice leading up to week 17. So he's gotten basically like two and a half weeks of practicing. Is he going to be out there and play? But to your point, the Vikings offense looks a little bit different. You're down to your third string center. You're starting right tackle, Brian O'Neill is out for this game. And so the Giants are not only trending better defensively, especially when you look at some of the offense is that they've played down the stretch. And when they've played lesser offenses, how they've performed, certainly trending in the right direction, while also getting healthier. And the Vikings offensive line is trending poorly. The Giants do get pressure at the fourth highest rate in this league since week ten. That's awesome, but they also have the highest blitz rate. That'll be the interesting factor here is it's tough to tell wink what to do. Brian dabel probably is wise to make some suggestions in terms of dialing back the blitz rate this week and enhancing the man rate and so that'll be interesting to see obviously cousins is extremely sensitive to organic pressure. He is substantially worse against man coverage. If you look at that first meeting, wink blitzed. Kirk Cousins 26 times the problem was he didn't play the best coverage behind it. So on those 26 blitzes when the Giants elected to play man coverage behind it, Kirk Cousins was as bad as bad gets 25% success rate. So if he winks going to blitz, you've got to play man behind it. They actually blitzed and used zone more often, which was a bizarre take that will probably get itself figured out this week. You could hope. But when the giant splits and used zone behind it, cousins had a 71% success rate. The other thing that's interesting here and it's not getting talked about a lot because Kirk Cousins is putting up some video game numbers and Justin Jefferson was vying for the all time record and you have decent name brands like cook and Thielen, who I think probably are both trending down just a touch as players. But quietly since week 11, Minnesota's number 25 and schedule adjusted efficiency. They have not been able to run the ball at all.

All right John, thank you at 6 38 on Wall Street time to take a look at stocks, some of the names moving in the pre market, Bloomberg markets live editor, Heather Burke joins us now with that, starting off with a DuPont because we just got earnings on that, Heather. Yes, there are about 2% in pre market. And we generally see in some pretty good earnings for materials and industrial companies this quarter. DuPont's adjusted earnings per share for three Q beat the average analyst estimate. It was 82 cents estimate 79. The only thing to be watching is it sees adjusted EPS of three 30, which is contrary to the lower individual range and it's seeing some consumer electronics demand weakness, but so far in the pre market investors are happy. Yeah, right on top of the laggards this morning in the pre market is lift. It really is getting crushed this morning after earnings. Yeah, it's down like about 20% in pre market trading. It's on track to hit its lower level on record. Ride sharing companies results kind of seem to confirm and losing market share to Uber and if this pre market moves hold, it would hit the lowest level since the IPO. It has weaker than expected ridership growth. And this kind of comes in contrast to Uber, which reported last week that the ride hailing customers are rebounded to pre-pandemic levels. We got an earnings miss as well from trip adviser. How's that stock doing? Yeah, also down about 20% in free market trading on disappointing three quarter results. Revenue was ahead of estimates, but the fourth quarter guidance disappointed and analysts can have noted that it was increased spending on buyer as the main reason for the soft outlook. "Plan for just the future. In fact, FedEx is aiming to become carbon neutral by 2040. So that's definitely a big step towards the future. They work for that right now. You know, that's 2040. All carbon neutral. You know, you have to be seeing that around. Yeah, it's important. I'm live in California. The governor here has talked about where they're going to take the climate. Climate control aspect of things back here in the state of California. So really, really proud of you and what you're doing. I think one of the biggest things that you learn and it's something that you definitely have, once you enter the NFL, your platform becomes so special and it's about being a service. And what's funny about that is that when you start doing things for other people and make it about other people, it lifts you up and makes your life even better. So keep doing what you're doing, it is a pleasure to watch you play on Sundays and thank you for taking some time today to be part of our show, chase. I appreciate it. Thanks for having me. You bet. Chase young, everybody. Defensive. And for the Washington commanders, second overall pick. I forgot that he was a second overall, but how many drafts have there been? Ever in the history of the NFL Draft? I don't know, 90, maybe. All right, so there's 9 of us. So him and I are in a pretty cool club together, right? Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if you know who the hell I am, but he's a guy that asked him questions about FedEx today. I know that. He was just like, I know that guy. I know that guy. Chase young, absolute beast. That 2020 draft loaded. Loaded. Obviously, we know all the quarterbacks, but Joe burrow, number one overall. Joe burrow number one, chase young two, Jeff akuta. I mean, a lot of the state is not high state teammate. It's had some bad luck with injuries. Since, but two. Just 6? Justin Herbert's 6. We know two O one 5, Isaiah Simmons, CJ Henderson, McKay Becton. Is that some injuries too with jets, but. But he was an impact early on. Okay, back to the noise. Gary Judy, CD lamb, Justin Jefferson, obviously a 22 Brandon aiyuk monsters. Isaiah Simmons won for me. I was high on that guy. I really thought the Giants should have taken him early in that draft. And then man, just like the first few picks of the second round too. Tea Higgins, Michael Pittman junior, Deandre swift. Xavier McKinney Kyle Duggar beast. Jonathan Taylor won 41. I remember when tee Higgins was taken there and I just said that, that is, I had watched that kid, I'd watched him from his national championship year, and I just thought he was going to be a difference maker and he certainly has. That's for sure. Chase young, he talked about Carson Wentz a little bit right there. I do believe this move was made because of the, I mean, I was so surprised when it happened. Not that he left or not that he got moved, but the trade that was done for it, right? The amount that was given up, taking on the contract, all of those things. There has to be something that Ron Rivera has seen what the Washington football club is seen in the past playing against Philadelphia twice a year. That they knew he could make it he could make a difference. And people forget, right? I mean, through 27, touchdowns a year ago with only 7 interceptions. Now he was a big reason why they didn't get to the playoffs and how he performed late in the year. That game against Las Vegas, where he coughed it up in Indianapolis, and then on the road at Jacksonville at the end of the season against a team that had only one, I don't know, had they only won one game at that point? I think so. Yeah. Yeah? You know, Trevor Lawrence made Trevor Lawrence look like an all pro quarterback. And they got beat and they got left out of the playoff conversation 'cause guess what? In the AFC, clearly? Just getting into the tournament meant something because if you did, you had a shot. Wide open. On both sides. All sides ended up being wide open. So interested to see what Washington will look like. It was great having chase on the show there, talk a little bit about it. The thing that I find interesting about the NFC east and I made the point is no team has backed it up. Since Philly did back in the early 2000s. No one has went back to back in terms of division champions. It's been a free for all every single year. So I wonder which team is going to step up. It was Philly last year. It was Dallas last year. Year before it was Washington, Philly got in as a wild card a year ago. Who does it this year? I would think that Dallas is right back in the mix. I would think it's Dallas division TJ to kind of lose, right? I know we've talked about them about how they haven't really improved since this time last year, but I still think they're the class of the NFC east, right? I don't know. I don't know, man. I know my spot here is the hype up the whole thing's cowboys, but you know, with rich said a few weeks ago was pretty right. He was like, they are not as good today as they were when the season ended. So we're just going to have to see, you know, despite what people say about the Jones Ryan when it comes to drafting. If you look at the cowboys the last 15 years of draft picks, they've done an overwhelmingly good job of selecting, especially first round talent. We're just going to have to wait and see. I don't think they've been great at putting staffs together to be honest with you. That could be. And if you guys remember correctly, last time I was on the show, or maybe the time before when the season was going on, I said the cowboy's biggest liability was sitting in the head coaching spot. Yeah. Because of what the time management and game management stuff had looked like during the season. Well, clearly it was terrible. Right? I think that's still the same coming into this year. So that for me is the biggest question mark, right? I mean, you've got one of the most dynamic players on the defensive side of the football in Micah Parsons. That draft pick was, yeah. Where did they go in the first round? Did they go get a wide receiver to replace Amari Cooper? Maybe? To put a long CD lamb? I don't know. It seems like there's other spots that should be addressed. I think the offensive line needs to be addressed. I think Tyrone Smith scenario had left tackle when he's healthy. He's great, but he hasn't been healthy. Yeah, I mean, he's put a lot of mileage on that big body, so. Yes, he has. Speaking of the big body,.

"Have all the equipment that you need download. The free picks wise app now to make your net bet- better picks wise backs responsible gambling. Gambling problem call one eight hundred gambling. Nick what i wanna do is what i wanna do is talk about the defense a little bit and it comes down to this. This was supposed to be the backbone of this team. It was supposed to be the one thing that people could count on. It was a a unit that finished ninth or tenth in points in yards allowed a year ago editor disease. Ojha lari added dorie. Jackson has a healthy xavier mckinney. Back lost alvin tomlinson but the run defense has not been the issue. The issue has been the pass coverage the issue has mostly been. The middle of the field is wide open. Play after play after play after play and win the giants go man to man. Which is the reason why they signed a dorie jackson. They're not getting the job done. So it comes down to this simply because you have a better scout side than i do in a in a better ability to to look at the film and break these things down. What in the devil is going on with the giants pass coverage i feel like the giants pass coverage right now is just out of sync and both of these offenses. They faced just use timing and understanding on where those routes were going to be between his own coverage the giants run. And then just basically using timing and rhythm to take advantage of zone coverage mainly up the seams in the intermediate parts of the giants. Defense if i feel like both of those offenses new with the giants were going to do. On some of these big. The giants were running inverted cover to without the robber. Which is something we saw last year with the robber which is when the giants align in a single high defense and then drop sorry phone call and then drop the drop at single high safety down into a robert position which is how giant eat washington when alex smith was the quarterback because he didn't see logan ryan dropped down there and then you drop bolt corners to dig cap responsibilities while now they're not dropping the safety down rather they are rotating the field corner up into a deep half responsibility while the safety takes another deep half in just kind of rotates towards that direction and that leads gigantic space to the field for darnay homes. And it's typically dorie dory jackson to cover and i feel like teddy bridgewater did an excellent job in the fourth quarter recognize third and fourth quarter recognizing match. And then taylor heineke also hit a couple of big plays against that specific coverage so that coverage has vulnerabilities. Everybody knows those vulnerabilities. But it also provides a lot more coverage towards the non vulnerable parts but since quarterbacks in offense coordinator to track on that right now i think the giants need to kind of change things up in terms of back covered other than that. They're running cover six running their three deep types coverage it just seems like the offense is getting between the zones in the spatial awareness of the giants isn't quite there now. We'll say james bradberry didn't have the best game against harry mclaren but james bradberry new washington was doing there because they showed that play a couple. Time where terry orange kinda runs runs around. Take out of the linebacker shooting to the flat to cover his assignment and raspberry baited that and bradbury got interception. I think that's encouraging and there were plenty of plays in that game where bradbury was all over. Maclaurin it just seemed like mcclaren. Got the best of him whenever whenever washington really targeted him as the primary read mclaren's very counter receiver. I'm not necessarily only worried about james bradberry. But i am worried about. The giants. defense is inability to generate pressure with four man pass rushes and they didn't really bring five all that often against against this washington team. Were taylor heineke at quarterback which was a little bit confusing to me because we saw them pressure teddy bridgewater. It didn't necessarily work. I felt like dial up the pressure. Maybe a little bit. More against hitler heineke that would have had a little bit more success. Slowing down his ability. To find those the to find logan thomas and terry maclaurin dominic brown in the intermediate parts of the field. Are you know it's we're heading into week. Three were heading into a game. Against the atlanta falcons team as as i said at the top the show that's given up eighty points over two games when you look at it. We know the statistics of two teams. You know making the playoffs. And i know it's a seventeen game season so it changes a little bit. Perhaps it's in the seasons a game longer. But when you start owen to your playoff chances dramatically decrease. Now you're in the nfc east where nobody else is better than one in one at this point so it's not necessarily devastating but teams go through to game losing streaks during the course of a season. I think that what this does for the giants is it. Dramatically decreases their margin for error. Is the rest of the way. But what i want to ask you is. Are you still optimistic when you look at this giants team. You know that when it's all said and done when they play fifteen more games when we get to the first week in january whether it's the playoffs or not We're gonna look at this giants team and say yeah. They did make strides from twenty twenty year. They are pointed in the right direction. They are getting better or are you just at this point. Ready to throw up your hands and say Here we go again. It's just gonna be another long painful year. I'm in between those two. I don't necessarily believe the giants are going to make the playoffs. Because it seems like philadelphia is much better than i. Originally anticipated and dallas's is good as i thought they were going to be in washington. I mean they just defeated the giants but they have taylor heineke for seventeen games. It seems like i mean. I'm not one hundred percent certain ryan. Fitzpatrick is going to return to that. Teams of division is stronger than i originally anticipated as for the giants i think a lot of this is it lies in week three because you're playing another owen to team like you said earlier. This is the only battle between two two teams. And the falcons are very winnable game. This is at home. They're not a great defense. They'd been given up so many so much yardage two opposing offenses in the limited season. So far and i deleted off. It's of line is also not nearly as good as washington's offense of line tip the cap to them for containing leonard williams indexed lawrence. So i think the giants come out win this game. It will be a few good type of situation. It's definitely something that can happen. And then maybe the. The birds of the new york giants media won't be as loud now if they go out and they lose this game and its stinker. I think that there could be locker room issues. And that's something. I don't really want to dive down into and i think if this giants team ends up winning five to six games dave gettleman is going to retire. Then they're going to be on the hunt for a new general manager and that throws daniel jones's future with this team into question and it could be just a really really ugly ending to the twenty twenty one season and daniel jones era here because the giants have to make that decision pickup fifth year option. Next season have him under contract next season. No matter what anyways. But i would say a lot of it probably lies with week three. I'm taking it a week at a time. I don't want to overreact. But i do believe this This giants team has shown signs of progress even though they were devastating losses specific. Manley offense side of the ball last week. They need to fix his defense. It doesn't have to be the two thousand twenty giants stevens but it has to be better than what we've seen through these last two games so much of what you're talking about here. Nick is why. I so much wanted.

"A bit of a mixed bag in terms of who was on the field. We saw like a tiny. Bit of xavier mckinney. We saw a tiny bit of thorny homes and maybe that was just based on who was available and depth. They just needed to line. Those guys up for a little bit. That just wanted to get them to the younger guys on this defense. But if we're talking about some top performers some guys that really shine in some spots where they kind of needed to if they wanted to fight to make it and stay on this roster. I one oceans immunised made a lot of good plays. I don't necessarily you can say that. He earned himself roster spot in this game. But i think zimmerman is starting to prove that. Hey when this guy is healthy he can be disruptive and he can be a one of the better rotational pass rushers on this roster yet the keyword there is pass rusher and he definitely impressed yet. Five pressures in the game had that one sack on the first drive. Speaking of that i drive. Which is amazing by kevin's too fancy. That's how you really call plays off of each other and just absolutely manipulated. The second team giants defense. It seemed like but up on that same drive. Oceans administers was tasked to be the Contained defender on the outside. And he just kinda got washed. On line of scrimmage ended up on the grounds. That's still a concern for me or administers ability to hold up against the ron. Which is a vital part of what patrick graham wants to do so. I think he definitely did. Good things on tape terms of rushing the passer. We saw a couple of different times in this game but he still needs to be better against the run right now. I would almost look at oceans as maybe that nickel pass rusher guide giant. Bring on. when they're in a four to five type alignment just to me. He looked a bit more comfortable as a hand in dirt defensive end. He moved well enough as a standup pass. Rusher but I thought his just leverage quickness off the ball was a little bit better with his hand in the dirt or kind of fake dirt like substance. Whatever they use in cleveland and yet you talk about the contain and just the the way. The browns moved the ball especially on that first series are say the first two series and joan. I talked about it in our quick reaction podcast last night. The giants need to work on their tackling. This is been two games in a row where there have just been way. Too many tackles too. Many arm tackles too many attempts at a lunge where the defender just kinda whiffs and given up way too many yards after contact. I liked joe. Kelley coming out of tennessee. But damn these yeah. He was coming out of tennessee. The giants had seventeen tackles in this game. And that's not anything that we saw from the obviously first team but still the giants second team is going up against the brown team so you think that would somewhat balance out. But they're way too. Many missed tackles. Yeah devante down to sam beal. Who had are horrendous game. Had three missed tackles the also had given mola had to miss tackles accredited from pro football focus. I'd like to see those on tape. Trent harris had a couple so that is not something that i feel like it's consistent with patrick. Graham hasn't still been the first team. Giants defense still managed just 'undisciplined football and you saw on a couple of those long runs by the ernest. Johnson's why guys just falling over does not executing good technique. It was kind of a hard to watch. It really wasn't and i'm glad you brought up discipline because that was the word that kind of jumped out to me especially watching the giants defense. When the browns would execute some kind of misdirection Sending a receiver in motion or having play action yet. The giants defense would bite hard on that and that that would have them just completely out of position to make a play on the ball and what could have been a three or four yard. Gain turns into a ten or twelve yard gain. Those first two drive. It seemed like the only times the browns were getting ten yards. Pop was if they screw something up. It's what it seemed like. I mean ryan anderson like somebody who usually from my tape study from alabama and even a little bit in washington was disciplined run defender and he bit so many times he was added position. Loss contain. That was actually kinda surprised about how he wasn't a lot of those types of reps number forty six out there late. Thirty six total snaps. You know you have to get your are is with. Get our eyes on a lot of these edge defenders because once the giants actually have some quality edged defenders. I would say Might be one or two that get released. And you're gonna be like okay. That i probably get scooped up by another team. Women's said that in a while about the new york giants. I don't think ryan anderson did too. Well himself sam bill definitely to do to from somebody who deep giants secondary when you have guys at various williams. Who have i would say. Add up and down kind of game better than the jets game but Still up somebody who could crack the roster even in a deep group as a rookie. Just because he's been having such a camp sam bill ryan anderson. Both those guys are guys who did not impress me in alaw. Minimum offense is another one group in there so conversely in terms of talking guys didn't press you. I want to say i found it very interesting..

"Alright giants fans ed. Valentine back here on. Valentine's views podcast talking with patricia trainer. Giants country in the lock done giants podcast as we preview. You're twenty twenty one giants training camp which begins officially on tuesday. Patty we've been talking about offense. Let's talk a little bit about defense and really the one the one topic that i find really interesting. Entering training camp on defense is how the edge rusher situation is going to pan out. I think the giants have so. Many options are on the edge. Do you find that to be one of the most fascinating position groups entering camp. I do you know. There's an old saying you know quant. Quality is better than quantity. The giants have quantity but do they have quality. I think they do you know. I like z's larry i think he's gonna develop into a fine every down. You know edge. Rusher for them If lorenzo carter is fully healthy and it was a good sign that we saw him during the The spring he was on his way to becoming quite a force before that injury that he suffered. Now what about the rest of the gang there. What are they gonna get from. Ellison smith who was deaf. I believe they're fourth-rounder you know is ryan anderson. Done a play a role there What about o'shane zimmer. Says who seems to be the forgotten guy. What kind of role is he gonna play. And then you have some linebackers you know cam brown and carter coughlin. Did some some edge work last year. But you know. I think carter coughlin's going back towards the to being an inside linebacker more than at edge rusher is cam brown a situational guy so you have a bunch of guys there that you know the question is do. They have a guy who's going to be productive or tune. They really need a strong three man rotation i think at that position. I don't know that they have it yet. We have to see if they do but based on what they have on paper you can make the argument that they do but you know what they have on paper versus with they have on the field two very different things so definitely something to keep an eye on and you know the other thing on defense that i'm really interested in is how the how the secondary shakes out just in terms of how patrick graham uses all of the pieces that that they have have competition in the slot. You between darnay homes and rookie. Third round pick aaron robinson. Plus you have several other defensive backs capable of playing in the slot. You've got lots of competition for for backup spots in the defensive secondary. You've got xavier mckinney heading into his second year hopefully his first full season first healthy season. Is there any any position battle. Anything in this secondary that that really intrigues. You enter camp. Just how many different combinations can patrick graham. Come up with. i mean. This is kind of like a rubik's cube in a away except Instead of trying to solve get all the you know the colored squares to match on each side of the cube. There's so many different combinations that he can put together you know. Is he going to put a for. Example xavier mckinney in the slot on third downs whereas aaron robinson gonna fit in. Is he going to be the star linebacker. Is he gonna take over the slot. So there's a lot of questions but there's also a lot of different combinations that i think pacha gram. He's you know if i'm patrick graham. I'm probably sitting there. And i can't wait to run through some of these combinations and see what works what doesn't work and then figure out when i'm going to deploy them in certain game situations and there. There's a lot i mean. There's probably once that we probably haven't even thought of the patrick graham on his long list of you know personnel. Pack is probably has come up with a few new and creative ways to deploy those guys if we know grand patty. He'll he'll he'll come up with a few more of those tuesday morning. Sure he's probably know. Hey interesting things about the giants last season. Patty was that they struggled in some areas on special teams. Graham gano had a tremendous year as placekicker but the giants didn't get a whole lot from their return game canaries..

"They'll be considered list next year. And the man and this is probably really homer by offering new york giants. And if you look at the other three teams. I don't really see any other safety. That would even compete got kiana. Neil who's a safety linebacker hybrid for dallas coming over from dan quinn's team when he was the head. Coach of the falcons. He's a solid player. I think cameron curl would be realistic. Probably next selection for the safeties who was a rookie for washington could drop down in the nickel and play. Overhangs really really solid player. But i went with djibril peppers. Logan ryan xavier mckinney. Look i think brill. Peppers really kinda came into his own last year. Under patrick rams similar to blake martinez leonard williams and james bradberry. I think he's very very versatile. You can line them up in the boxing's not going to be a liability against the ron against teams. Who want to get a little heavier. He's a little bit more versatile and drop into covered man up on tight ends. You could take deep half responsibilities. i mean. I don't think he's really tailor made for the center field roving type of responsibilities. That might be a little bit. More xavier mckinney might be a little bit more julian love but what gebriel can offer you in terms of run support man coverage and understanding how to play zone coverage and have spatial awareness to understand how zone match pass guys off something that he i feel struggled with a little bit james becher but did a better job with this season not really came into his own so he was an easy selection logan ryan his leadership and experience and ability to get everybody setup pre post snap while also being an excellent robert trap type coverages with patron made him an easy selection and then xavier mckinney somebody. We hardly saw last year. Who i think could be prime similar to dexter lawrence to a breakout season this year. With patrick cramp somebody who can drop into those deep centerfield responsibilities. Cover one type of coverages middle. The fuel closed type coverages. He'll be fine. The deep half middle the field open type covered split safety looks and i think he can bring him down having play overhang against big slots tight ends while. He's also probably not gonna hurt you as a run defender. Has he comes from. Nick saban system. It's a complex defense. He flies in with reckless abandon good angles to the football and make solid tackles and i think i would take him over cameron curl or kiani so all three of these safeties and coming from the new york football giants and i don't think that's neat and being a homer i think that's just being objective but tell me if i'm wrong. That's one hundred percent. Find too and this is a list of fifteen. Nfc east players. There are seven giants on it. And i get it. But the giants defense is solid so as washington. Washington's defense is very very solid specifically that front and like i said i think iran paying made this but those edge rushers are insane. No ed rushers for the giants that even were considered for this list. If we're going to be honest and we want to look at totals now of nfc east teams on offense and defense at thirty guys. Giants had eleven and lot of them. Come on the defensive side and the her couple that i would might change like the nick gates one from last week. I'd probably put chase we in there the football team they had eight and i mean it's hard to argue against a lot of the eight other than maybe jamin davis i would say is somebody that probably could get booted off the list in favor of mike parsons men. The eagles had six and the cowboys at five. All being on the offense. And that's the nfc east podcast everybody. I hope you guys enjoy this please. "xavier mckinney" Discussed on Big Blue View
"Locker room changing the way we talk so chris when i was putting together our show notes. It was a little scary to see some of the names that left this washington team. Because i'm going through it off of over the cap. i believe. We're spo track one of those sites. And all the names that i'm looking that that departed and left. I'm like okay guys kind of a no name. That guy wasn't really getting that many snaps. There's really not that many guys that i can point to and say like. Wow that's going to be really hard to replace. This team is really not losing a whole lot. Which makes them in a position to take a step forward as they were already highly competitive last year in. we're able to sneak themselves into the playoffs. Obviously with a losing record but they are a pretty quality team especially defensively and we've seen teams like the chicago bears. Stay stick around and fight and be hard to beat because they are led by a very talented defense and front seven but some of those losses than i'm referring to fabian. Moreau defensive back decent player ronald darby and other quarterback again. Decent guy hasn't really lived up to the hype that we thought he could be early on his career. Kevin pierre louis ryan anderson now at the new york giants and then lastly recently cut morgan. Mogi moses who was there right tackle and caused me in stepping into that spot. So i'm looking at all these guys. Kristen i don't really see a name like dang that's that's a big loss like we were talking about what the eagles and some of the stuff with the cowboys it. Yeah i really think. Most morgan moses. The most significant loss and if cozy step in and lay on the level we saw him play texas. He's got some technique issues. He's going to have to clean up but if he can clean those up relatively quickly he's got plenty of. Athleticism is ridiculously athletic. Tackle they could withstand the loss of moses pretty. Well this should be a team that can take that step forward really as long as they get just consistently decent play from their quarterback position. You know as long as they don't have too much of a revolving door and whoever is throwing the ball for them doesn't throw it to the opposing defense too often. This team might not be great but they're not going to be an easy win right that that's the key key point here. Is that last year. This team makes the playoffs because they end up being a pest against a lot of teams because of their defensive front the giants were a team that dominated washington last year in both of their outings not completely blowing them out both times but they were able to look pretty good for a majority of both games but when now comes into play stepping into next season is that washington again not losing a lot of guys in that front seven chase. Young is only going to get better. He's playing alongside and building chemistry with the guys along defensive line jonathan allen thron pain montas sweat that is a very scary front and for them to add speed at linebacker. I think is what is going to make this team very hard to beat. Now i'm not saying that it is going to be an insurmountable game for the giants. That's not what i'm setting it up for. I'm just simply saying that this is going to be one of the better teams in the nfc east. There's a reason why it's hard to pinpoint in pick. Who's going to win the nfc east right now. It's a toss up between washington the cowboys and the giants if we're taking a very realistic perspective because each team has their specific strengths and they also have their weaknesses. It's a matter of who actually pans out. The most the one thing. I will say though chris is that what is going to hold back. Washington the most is the fact that they out of really any of the teams worse than the eagles situation. If the quarterback position for them becomes a liability. They might be screwed. They really might not be able to live up to what they're hoping to possibly be. And be a another or make another playoff appearance. Because i i really don't know if i can buy in on ryan fitzpatrick heineke or kyle and yet that is really the d. silver lining. I found in washington squeaking out that division win last year is it. It took them out of the running for the top quarterbacks and it more or less a built in this kind of weakness in their front. Which could we imagine this team if they had if they had a legitimate shot at one of those quarterbacks drafted in the top ten if washington was looking at being able to have justin field out there or or even mack jones as a potential starting quarterback all of a sudden with that attention future ahead of them. This is a team that you don't just have to respect you. Kinda have to look at them and go okay. Hey this this team could be a problem for a while right now. They could be a position. Where the quarterback position is just unstable enough just inconsistent enough to hold them back. And maybe keep them from getting that quarterback or having to sacrifice to get that guy. And if i'm being realistic projection on what we think the best. And the worst case scenario for this washington football team would be. I would say if the quarterback position becomes the liability that we believe it might be. This could only be a six or seven win football team like if there's just a constant reshuffling there is no confidence in who the guy is. There's a lot of errors that happened on the field at the quarterback position. I don't see why this couldn't be a like. The bears were a couple of seasons ago. Where because they were having so much trouble quarterback they were really struggling. I it just because they're good defensively. That does not guarantee them the ability to win football games on the counter that i think best case is as you get average play out of whoever's playing quarterback which again it looks like it's ryan fitzpatrick if it's slightly below average average just enough to get the job done and gets the football to his playmakers win the nfc east again if other the other teams in the division are slacking or at the very least find their way into a wild card spot. This team is good enough defensively to keep opposing offenses. That are talented. Close and squeak out victories. They're not gonna win a lot of games like forty five to twenty five or big bloods like. That's like that. It's going to be a lot of like twenty one to seventeen twenty four to ten. It's going to be a lot of close close defensive battles. Yeah think that's the way their season is going to go. You know where they could be a lot like the giants were in twenty sixteen where they just hope their offense can do enough to give their defense lead to protect because once that defense can get to where it can t off on opposing offenses yet. That's right where they want to be where they can. Just turn chase young. In montana sweat loose where they can play around with some blitz packages and really kind of define the flow of the game. They are not built to overcome mistakes and come from behind. I think they're going to play a very safe brand of football and really just hope. Their defense can force mistakes on other teams. That's honestly i think what's going to end up being what they need to win. Win games is just keeping games close and then the pressure that is resulting from their attack by their defensive line forcing them to make silly mistakes in close football games. That's going to be what causes them to win. Is simply their defensive line and their linebackers forcing a lot of errors in these games that are going to be as i said low scoring and close and then finishing them off after they make those mistakes. That's right now though. That's more dangerous than i think. People realize and especially from what. I'm saying here if your team is this good defensively. You're able to win. Close football games if any game is close against washington and they have a lead. I'd be worried because it is not going to be easy to move the ball down the field when they are in a nickel or dime package and they're expecting a pass on a two minute drill when you have modest sweat and chase young rushing you in either side that is what is going to make them dominant in in high pressure situations like that. Yeah you know. We saw the jump. That jason pierre paul made from his rookie year was second year. We saw the jump that myles garrett made from his rookie year to his second year. If chase young makes that same kind of job you know. We saw him already. Taking games over at the end of last year. That could be really a scary place to be in your basically having to drive the length of the field when the washington defense knows a pass is coming. Yeah and chase. Young is going to be a defacto player for their progression in their development forward and already we're seeing signs of the level of talent that he has the fact that teams were double and triple teaming him in his rookie..
