Well, Abby, Jacobson, we are delighted to talk to you and we've asked you here to play a game we're calling a league of my own. So you created in our starring in a league of their own. So we thought we'd ask you about the XFL that was a football league created in 2001 when the World Wrestling Federation decided they wanted a league of their own, but it only lasted one season. Answer two out of three questions about the XFL and its brief life and you will win our prize for one of our listeners, Bill, who is Abby Jacobson playing for. Aaron Lee of Portland, Oregon. All right, here's your first question. The XFL promised to make the game more exciting. So they changed up things like the traditional pregame coin toss. How did the XFL determine which team got the ball first? Was it a straight up cash auction for it? They held a pregame egg toss whoever wins gets the ball or C they put the ball only 50 yard line blew a whistle and a player from each team would run out and fight for it. I'm gonna go with C you're right, Abby, yes, that's what they did. And in the very first game, when they tried this to strike the game, one of the players dislocated

"Carr great leader has super responsible on and off the field. A great quarterback. It just does not, for some reason, get appreciated. I don't know why. But I'm very excited why it's what Derek Carr does this year, and hopefully he can earn some new fans and gain some respect around the football world. Are we going to talk about this weird story? University of Central Florida football players wore a QR code on their Jersey during a spring game. Instead of having numbers, like where their numbers would be on the back of their Jersey, they had a QR code. And it's kind of a marketing stunt to get attention. Like a lot of articles are written about this. I paid attention their spring game simply because of this. So if that's the plan very well done, if you did scan the QR code, it would have taken you to a bio for each player where each player has an individual bio with links to their social media and their individual player merchandise stores. Did it get attention? Yes. Is it practical? Absolutely not. Like, I don't know how this is supposed to work, whether you are you scan it from the crowd, which you're way too far away to do. If you try to scan it through the TV, it's really blurry, never really get a clear shot, or it's way too small and grainy. I don't know. It's a marketing stunt. Did anyone really sell any t-shirts because of this? Did anyone really get a new follow because of the QR code on their Jersey? I don't think so, but kind of a weird thing. I will say I watched the spring game. It got my attention at minimum. And it made me excited to watch John rice plumlee play quarterback. John ray's plumlee was a receiver at old miss. And he was a receiver because he couldn't play quarterback because Matt corral was their starting quarter, Matt corral a future NFL quarterback. Maybe even a first round pick, probably more like a second pick. We'll see. And I think John rice plumlee is going to be the new starting quarterback Central Florida. That makes me very excited. I thought he did really well at spring game. And he's a guy, I don't know that he's an NFL quarterback at all, but that's a cool story. A guy who played receiver who wanted to play quarterback who finally gets a big quarterback like that makes me pumped up and I'm excited to watch John rice plumlee. Play quarterback at Central Florida. Can we got some XFL news we got to talk about?.

"Oh my goodness. Good morning, good afternoon. Whatever it is for you, I hope you're having a fantastic day, my name is Zach Schumer. This is strong opinion sports episode 477. I'm a little bit if my voice is a bit scratchy today. I am recovering from getting sick. I led a horrible headache for a couple of days. I was deathly sick. It was awful. Don't recommend it to anyone. Doing everything I could, like pounding water, pounding Gatorade, drinking a bunch of soup, eating soup. You eat a drink, it's kind of that ambiguous middle ground pounding sudafed. Just doing the best I could to try to get through it. Here we are. On today's episode, we're going to talk about a lot of there's a lot of news we got to catch up on. We're going to talk about Baker Mayfield he was on a podcast. I tried to listen to the urban Meyer podcast with Tim may. There was like a sound bite people jumped on. I'm not going to lie to the audio was so bad. I'm like, I can't even do this. I'm not even going to listen to this entire podcast with urban Meyer for 44 minutes. A topic I don't care about and a person I don't really respect. Like, I just don't have the energy to do the whole effort on the urban Meyer thing. But we're going to talk about tua dodging a bullet Sammy Watkins went to Green Bay, Staphon Gilmore, Derek Carr. Center Florida had a weird thing going on during their spring game, some XFL news, odo backing junior, some news on a touchdown ball. We'll get to later. Let's jump into the first topic of the day. Baker Mayfield went onto a podcast called the you never know podcast. You never know by Mike. A guy I know a very little about. I think he makes music. I was actually impressed by the way with how he hosted the show. He's a very good conversationalist. I really like the podcast they did actually. Now a lot of people I have no doubt because I follow I'm on social media. I see what people say about stuff. I see their clickbaity headlines and all this stuff. And a lot of people jumped on and attacked Baker Mayfield for these two specific quotes we'll get into. I got to tell you this, I listened to the entire one hour 32 minutes and 54 seconds of that podcast. And I found myself rooting for Baker Mayfield, actually. If you listen to the whole thing, I don't know how you don't walk away, liking baker may feel a little bit more actually. I thought he came across as a grown-up. I thought he was very honest..

"The XFL made an announcement actually the XFL and the NFL made a joint statement together and basically it outlined how the XFL will test new ideas for the end of that new rules. That's equipment that safety measures, officiating all kinds of stuff. They're going to be a test bed for new NFL ideas. I made a connection when The Rock was on the field at the Super Bowl introducing the LA rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. I said, um. Remember, that's not just The Rock, the American actor, the star of Fast & Furious one, and all kinds of stuff. That's also The Rock, XFL owner, The Rock introducing the Super Bowl. I was like, huh, that points towards a collaboration potentially between the NFL and the XFL. They're already working together. You would have never seen the former owner of the XFL. Vince McMahon at the Super Bowl introducing the rams or the Bengals. I was like, huh, that's interesting. And so when this guy announced, a lot of people sent me messages on Instagram, they're like, hey, Zack, you called it. Look, you're right. The XFL and the NFL are collaborating and I appreciate the messages. I think there was a breadcrumb there, right? There was a clear why is the XFL owner introducing the Super Bowl. There's more going on here than just that. So especially because it felt a little bit out of place a little weird like a little bit forced. Now I love the XFL. The XFL is, you know, 2020 was a very, very hard year. The XFL was probably my favorite thing from that year. I went to a lot of excel games in 2020 before the rona shut the league down. It was great football. I loved evaluating the quarterbacks. Josh Johnson was incredible there. I traveled to New York. I went to a New York guardians game. I went to a lot of games in Seattle. I traveled the country. I went to XFL games. I got access there. They were great to me. I thought it was a wonderful opportunity for young players to put stuff on film and also get paid. And it was sad as it was a heartbreaking. The XFL is doing very, very well. Until their own a derailed it and kind of destroyed the league. And it felt very unfair at the time. I was like, man, if only this once in a lifetime thing hadn't happened, the XFL probably would still be here and still going. The overtime rules were fun and what's happening here is that partnering with the XFL brings, partnering with the NFL excuse me, brings the XFL closer to being an official minor league of the NFL, which I love that. I think that's good because you can either work with the NFL or against the NFL. There isn't really another option. And despite a lot of people's, I think the illusion and the silly idea that the XFL could actually dethrone the NFL. Some people hate the NFL and they're like, oh, the XFL's great. Let's watch the XFL instead..

"He's planted to pro 11 making police so being in this league film and this league and then going to the XFL like a stepping stone PJ walker he played foot XFL Houston team for last year 2020 in the final with the panther. So you know my plan is do the same thing he did being this week and he goes straight to the XFL play a season there or you know midseason if a team want to bring you into camp. Do that but you know the biggest thing for me right now is just stay healthy in this league and get prepared for the XFL because that's going to be the big resume that's going you know get me an NFL within one year within that same year on that. So when the point for me if I had to guess get back in the NFL I would say within the next year a year and a half or so. Well we are so freaking excited to see this happen and continue to watch your journey unfold. Again I can't say it enough. Best of luck to you. And I would love to catch up with you again and have you back on this podcast maybe at the start of your football season this fall to try to recap people on how your season with your team in New York did and how you are doing with your training and whatnot. We will switch on over and talk about some charity coaching and mentoring but you guys are now listening to David pandel. He is an athlete a pro style quarterback. I hope you guys are fully enjoying this episode because you are learning so much about a young man young athlete that really knows what he wants that's going for his dreams that won't stop until he gets there. And I love hearing stories like this because again being in this career is no easy task. And I could say that because I although I'm not a professional athlete being in my industry a lot of you guys know having competed on reality TV shows when I was younger and having to start my own podcast and doing all the stuff that I've done I totally understand what it's like beating adversity and being competitive and just having to have that driving for. So having somebody on here like David is a breath of fresh air. You and I listening to the boss who's left self sports podcast I'm your host Britney baldy. And charity coaching and mentoring you guys know that I love love love talking about how our pro athletes there wasn't girlfriends or our reality to be competitors give back. So I know that David is super busy so he doesn't get that actively involved with charity just yet. But I know he likes to do a little bit of coaching and some mentoring. So David can you talk about that please? I'm from Columbia Maryland 1520 minutes outside of Baltimore and it's a lot of keys that go voted play a football. Been the same position as me go to college at a high level. You know have a chance to make it to the big league the pros. So what I do in our community back at home is me and this guy Chris Brooks was like a mentor to me who's been helping me out since I started playing football and just being like a big brother to me. We get a group of kids and the area. Probably three days a week we get a group of kids and we basically train them. We do like quarterback training. He does running back training and I basically. Help him break down you know football mechanics as a quarterback. He helps them as a running back. You know we've merged them together at the end..

NFL Preseason: Indianapolis Colts' Jacob Eason Outshines Sam Ehlinger Win Over Carolina Panthers

"The final. Preseason game of this weekend was in indianapolis. The colts they beat the panthers twenty one to eighteen one more. Exciting games of the entire sleet we had. Pj walker formerly of the xfl re looked really good for the carolina. Panthers i mean really good. He was ten twenty. One hundred. Sixty one yards touched out a really explosive athlete. That was moving very fast. He can throw on. The run was ripping throws up the sidelines and again a great backup who could see a lot of time. Depending on what. Sam darnold does but good backup to have cuba hubbard. He'd a huge run after escaping from the pile. He can be a really nice complement to christian. Mccaffrey for carolina. If he does what he did at oklahoma state you tears marsal marshalls kind of show a little bit of what he can do. The y rec- route. Lsu who some thought. He would be a first round pick but he was second round. Pick he had three receptions for eighty yards Takeaway from this game as jacob and he looked pretty solid and the colts are going with jacob and sam etlinger two quarterbacks with a lot of experience but easing looks like the more superior quarterback he he was fifteen to twenty one hundred eighty three yards another again. Another guy with some really impressive throws a all lot of dimes this weekend but he had some really impressive throws down the field. Sam longer was ten fifteen fifty five yards. He interception but offers a little bit more of that mobility aspect to his game. So it'll be interesting to see how that battle plays out but reports coming out this week or that went his injury return. Does luke

"We're switching to an xml based finally getting in there really easy transition really like the other. Here's the thing we have so much to discover. None of us know much of anything and we're about to learn a let's go. Oh yeah so here. We go first thing the big thing and evan. Could you drop in a whistle here for to start the game. Players cannot move forward into the ball is caught by the returner that is on the kickoff similarly on punts. The punting team cannot release. Pass the line of scrimmage until the ball is kicked which made it so you would encourage returns on kickoffs and punts. The other big thing about this was they. They would not do field goals for extra points instead. It had a three tiered point system so it was one point. You run a play from the second yard. Line two points if you run a play from the five yard line three points if you run a play from the ten yard line no kicking points were allowed and then overtime points were allowed. That seems like a real like anti-soccer bias parts or any points with your feet. And then the way they did overtime was overtime shall consist of five rounds staged in alternating single play possessions. Like an nhl shootout around with consist of one offensive. Play per team. Each possession starts at the opponent's five yard line and the offensive team. Has one play to score. The team with the most points after five rounds was the winner. Kind of sounds fun. That's interesting. I mean it just sounds faster and it sounds like the game probably have higher scores or something like that when he five second play clock. They always audio double double pass anything after the two minute warning. They allow teams to come back. So you know basically was dislike they basically want and you can suplex anybody that you want. Yes and approved. Yeah you could. You could definitely slam a chair over an offensive players head. Every game is a steel cage game. But yeah i mean i love a movie that where the studio and everyone's like okay. Yeah we know this is the future and we're gonna make this so it will like when people watch this in twenty years. They're going back. Wow this feels current topical but the xfl stadium in that opening scene is wild because a character. That we really don't ever see again is sonny phoenix. Johnny phoenix is just basically. He's paralyzed and the opening murder. I mean essentially not not. I mean he ambulance but like he died because they offered force him to die. Like they go well you know because they don't want to pay him out. I mean that that really is the i think they their idea is basically rather than treat his broken spine they would rather just in two hours they can have a new clone of him up and running right right and and they don't wanna they don't wanna pay somebody who's recouping hospital. They would rather clone a new version of him and that's one of the first things that is they get one of the first hints that something's awry you watch. The cold open of the movie is and i thought it was effective. Like the you see the game and the game is they. They shot the shit out of the xfl game. I'm assuming the stadium already set for it so it really it looks good And then they clobber them. Then then then. Michael rooker yonglu from the guardians of the galaxy. Movies comes in who is just one of the great character actors of all time and he gets in the car. He's obviously if michael. Rooker or sean bean or in the movie they are the bad guy So good they're the best for that matter wounded great. He's incredible year. he's so good here. he's so good in ghost. he's so good. He's only go good at playing that charming smarmy bad guy you know like the and michael rooker is the best like the muscle. The bad guy. The the true by the wager and we also have the the first onscreen performance by terry crews as the movie which was also great to see i love and it was. You know it was before terry crews kind of found like terry crews that we know unless he is just he's very intimidating but like it's not like it's not it's ability. Yes i mean the terry crews that we know from brooklyn nine nine or from like recent cruise has like a real like Affability to him and this this performance is menacing. Like he is one of the bad guys. He is one of the cabal of kind of villainous People who are the killers him thera winter. Yeah okay that that week stuff made me laugh though because when there's one bad guy who's a bad gal played by this actress. She's very beautiful and she gets cloned. She's wearing bright blue bag or colorful wig when we first meet her and his dress really futuristic when she gets cloned in their bodies come out certain like from it. Looks like they're coming directly from the embryo sac and filled with like embryonic fluid skin. That's extra skin that hasn't come off so when she comes out she has a head of hair on her like her real already seen her in her chopped blah which comes out and she says like oh like she's pissed. This happened again and she says. I can't believe i'm going to have to go get my hair done again. Expensive that she's going to. She's going to her hair stylist. Every like what four times right with her normal head of yes and that person has to recreate so that person must be faced with utter confusion. Like how am i. Okay like what. She's going to different hair place and see. No i always. Do you know what i think is happening. And based on how. This movie plays out. I think she's going back to the hairstylist. Having her fix fixer hair shooting. Her and then reclaiming her back to before she went into get a haircut. They're using the tech t. Clone her hairdresser. The hairdresser doesn't realize she's been doing this new haircut because kind of cloning. That's going on by the way. Talk about it willy. Nilly oh well going says you can do it in two hours. I was like wait. What there is a moment they they gloss over the cloning so quickly that they actually drop it in the background. Commercial all begins.

"This is exciting stuff here. We got four topics for you. So the xfl. They're shooting for a comeback in twenty twenty three. They're trying to partner with the cfl inter out. Will they succeed on their third. Try leeann what do you got. I'm out man. I mean the xfl was fine. It was a novelty to win. I personally enjoy watching the first four weeks that season. It was very interesting. It was cool experiment. Nobody else cares. The first week had averaged three million viewers over the course of power many games. They played by week five just over a month later the last game before the pandemic shut everything down. They didn't even he'd passed million viewers idea the quality. Football was surprisingly good. It was again. I liked the ball so i will watch it but i mean between the fact that people already know what the deal is. Years of the novelty has worn off. There also has been an undeniable hit on sports viewership in sports ratings as a whole as a result at that in this is a couple years off. Maybe they steady out by them. But i mean even the nba is trying to figure out of balance out there. Viewership numbers after went down the absolute tubes during the worst of the pandemic. So i don't. I don't see the succeeding. I see it being fun for a little bit. The thing with the nfl's already if he is. I don't want it to be successful. I don't think that there's enough novelty aspects to it for people to be interested in on a weekly basis. I mean for for the record. I'm out. I'm burnt out of football by that time i'm ready for. Let me get to the juice of the nba. Let me get geared up for baseball but as wanna throw in there as a kid when the us was kicking the chicago blitz. they were sweet. I was fully in. I loved blitz herschel. Walker was playing in the us. If you had. Jim kelly in the the the the usfl had something going on i i don't know beckett ever be duplicated yet the xfl's like it. The social media feeds because postals numbers wants to show is over my project and then once the official numbers come out. I'll definitely follow up and give you guys skinny on that. All right Let's see one last thing we can get into. Some kind of is kind of relatively quiet headline wise. I mean one thing. Xfl it looks as though the xfl is possibly being pushed back to twenty twenty three twenty twenty three and there is a an official xfl w statement they said while allow discussions with be cfl did not ultimately lead to collaboration. The effort reinforced our belief and commitment to developing the xfl for international spring football. We look forward to seeing everyone for kickoff in spring of twenty twenty three so hey look i had nothing but positive things to say about the xfl. I watched every single game Man i was a fucking fanatic when the xfl came out i was almost as a nfl fanatic. As i am one sundays in thursday's when he nfl is when. I watched all games. And i thought they were off to a damn good start. It was so hilarious too. Because i remember when the xfl came back in on is giving a praise. I was talking about it. You had those that were going on social media Are cast taking jabs at it. And i remember asking some of these people evicts actually adding me and everything responding to what i was saying like. Are you even watching the game because games actually pretty good and the these are just people that just got their jollies. All just trolling. "2023 is the new What year? Are we in now? I know time to get off track for a while, right? It's 2021 now, So they say it'll be spring 2023. That's when the rock is dropping the people's elbow on the the XFL. After collaboration, conversations with the CFL fell apart. Oh, no lady in Canadian football. I don't know what the plan was, but they were. They were in talks. The CFL, which begins their season in August. I think they play in the play summertime simultaneously. There's a summertime I mean, they start earlier, but it's it's in the fall when real football happened. The XFL was a spring league. They were talking with the CFL about what could they do together? CFL got that giant field, right? Don't they have a bigger if you got a big field, big, wide field deep end zones wide and deep, they say it'll it'll now be 2023 for the Twice failed XFL that only two

"Many listeners of this podcast. now i'm a fan of the xfl. i'm also a fan of the cfo. That's why i was a little more than interested. When i learned of the news of official talks between the two leagues to explore partnership possibilities while early in the process. It's fun to consider what might evolve in twenty twenty two. I think most will agree that nothing less than something. Bold will suffice. The cfl went begging cap in hand to various departments of the federal government last year. All to no avail. Let's hope they're not doing the same with the xfl namely seeing it as a source of no strings attached revenue. Let's talk about a complete merger a north and south division the xfl and see xfl the north american extreme football league. Who knows if this works. There's far more potential. The cfl needs something bold some way to grow. The league must've will to survive simple as that. I recall a commentary a few years ago by the late and very great chris shoals former. Nfl nc afl offensive linemen while sitting as a panelist at the desk of canada's tsn sports network he emphatically pointed out while the nfl. And it's more or less nine teams may have worked more or less in the past the league needs to grow. It needs more teams. That people want to watch if survival is part of the business plan and that will mean some change. Opinions are already tilting toward moving the game to four downs. Is that such a bad thing. This issue exemplifies the question what is critical to retain should the cfl merged with an american league. If you were sitting at the table. What is your deal breaker. You only get one so which one the size of the field the rouge the number of players on each line all of these things are up for discussion for me. To put it simply. The cfl offers football fans opportunity to watch the game from june through late autumn. The season has been adjusted several times over the past century or so but if nothing else when negotiating the summer aspect of the cfl something i would be pressing for. The xfl positioned itself has not competing with the nfl. Not getting in the way. Starting mid february and running to mid spring. I would suggest that a combined league start in early to mid march winding up the season with a championship game possibly late september to early october minimal. Overlap with the nfl retaining the spring aspect of the xfl aspect of the march. Should be as doable in terms of field action and canadian cities as is a late november game. I think the reality is looking at an american sized field for downs. One fewer player on inside but some unique aspects of the game could easily fuel their way into an american xfl viewer market the rouge for example plus a host of new innovations. That happened yet. Been tried by either creating something new and bigger than each. It's not the first time that an american base league has had canadian host cities. The continental league had three canadian teams. The world league of american football team based in montreal and not only touches on the game of professional football. Of course the cfl has its experience and expanding into us markets many commentators in canada's snide label the early nineties expansion of the nfl into the usa as a failure couldn't be further from the truth. The legacy is a generation of talent many of which have become legendary and iconic for canadians and fans of canadian football. The only failure would have been not trying. The point is at two organizations. recognize the need to grow. As in any marriage there will be compromises. There has to be the current discussions offer an opportunity for fans players and personnel alike to prioritize what they deemed critical to evolving and what is essential to make the process worthwhile like it or not. This may be the best opportunity for the cfl in a generation. Make no mistake. These talks between the two leagues offer. Hope of survival for the nfl. Even.

"Merger. They are talking at least about some kind of partnership kind of interesting. Welcome to the show at stephen jimmy back again. Schmoozing up dolan out the extra large portions of ottawa. Sports talk sports in whatever. Of course the whatever in this case on this day anyway march eleventh one year ago today the world began down the very bumpy road of co vid crazy to think it's been a year james. How're things today. Well stevie. I'm yeah. I'm good everything's find i. It's interesting you bring that up because there's been different days you know but but this is the certainly a year when it all came down and and everyone sort of went wide seeing. What's happening here. Right. really is hit us to write Outside of china. And then italy of course and then i read today one of the headlines is i think it's the texas rangers are going to allow full capacity. I think by the end of march for a couple of exhibition games. An yeah the final two exhibition games on march twenty ninth and the thirtieth and the regular season opener against the jays on april fifth I think on against the jays. It'll be a guess The scaleback attendance and you socially distant sections for the following the home opener which is odd. But that's what they're planning to do wide open. One hundred percent capacity global field as the texas rangers opened up their season and they do have to wear masks so they do that. the announcement came after texas governor said. Last week he's going to lift. The statewide mask mandate and permit businesses to operate at full capacity. But at least for the baseball games they want since everybody's tight that everybody will wear a mask whilst watching the game kind of funny that that comes out on the one year anniversary this thing. Do they know something. We don't steve early. it's over. They have they all been vaccinated because that would certainly be. The announcement argument would expect if they go. Kay we got this thing done. We rolled out all the vaccines and we got everyone covered so off. we go. it's it. It doesn't seem right to me. But i particularly want their own action kind of like. Why is there some hook here. I don't know did they. They have the whole thing sprayed an an anti virus thing or something god by their own admission in their own actions. It's clearly not over because whether going back to why you have a full capacity for your home opener and the two exhibition games preceding but then after that they kind of dow things back a little which is are are you are you in are you. Are you in on this. Covert is no big deal thing or aren't you because it seems like you're sending out mixed messages your fan base totally totally and i can't believe it's allowed that you know the health department or the state health department is gonna no no wait. Will what what what what are you doing here. Yes slow down scooter. But what do i know. Yeah it's it's weird. It's very weird but on the cove front just a conclude the conversation about it it's I mean it's not like we need to get all nostalgic. I think that's going ebb. This mistake people make all day long. Various radio stations or whatever spending a ton of time on it. It's the one year ago and then you know talking about everything they've been through and say well that's kind of the memories you dig up when something is over and maybe You know five years. Now it's only been a year and by the way we're still living in it so i don't necessarily need wax on eloquently about This or that and all the things that have happened in the past year. Which i think some people will do because i think you know people are still in a mode of being fed up with it so like i said spent a lot of time on it but it is worth noting that It's the one year mark. Well i i. I hope it's good. The utopian result will be pulled the game off and a week later. We haven't heard of a incident of coping. But i expect Yeah we there's a little spread of the virus on coincidentally on on the day we had the big exhibition game where we allowed. Everyone really really anyway. Yeah let's let's change gears a bit though and We should get into the ottawa senators and their game in edmonton. That was played on march the tenth. And let's start with the highlights for the sends a key. Here's how well trained. The crickets are like right on. Cue elite comedic timing sense fall seven one to the edmonton oilers who now have a six and a mark against the sends. Probably wildest data. I've heard is that leon draisaitl has now fifteen points. This season against the sends seventeen is the record He's got a chance to break the record on friday most points against one team in one season. That tells you pretty much all you need to know. Dry silently heard the hatrick gold coming out of the entry and It was a miserable night for the sends they leave matt maria out there to twist in the wind for all seven goals. They weren't all his fault they never are but he's just you know it's it's pretty clear. And i was reading an article by a pittsburgh reporter. The day that matt murray signed on with the ottawa senators or at least the day that the penguins turned the page on him decided to go with tristen. Jerry i mean. They're references in there too. It was the easiest decision they ever made to turn the page on matt. Murray the way he was playing the two cops but he was never the same after that anyway. Not only was that bad news but they also might have lost colin white and ryan single for a substantial amount of time. They both had to be helped off. The ice call in white was rushing for checking and see the slip and went into the end boards. Skate blades i. I don't know if he mocked up ankle or a knee but that did not look good at all. Look like maybe even an ice issue didn't look like there was any reason for him to be falling but he did and then ryan zingel kind of the same part of the ice behind the edmonton oilers net being harassed by harvey and just gets all twisted up against the end boards and looked like he had a knee injury as well so both had to be helped off the ice. Don't count on seeing them anytime soon in too bad because both of those guys were scoring goals and that's been one of the struggles for this team this year so Yeah little update on the sends they fall seven one to edmonton the finale of this latest disastrous series against the oilers coming up on friday night. All right let's take a time out on the program when we come back to. You are going to talk about the possibility maybe the the cfl and the xfl could merge. We'll get to that story coming up. "You are a very multifaceted kind of person. You're you're a yoga instructor therapist. Your life coach. You are very knowledgeable about essential oils. How did you discover your strengths to did these things just kind of fall in your lap or how did this all come about for you. You know it's so fascinating. I think like when you hear. Somebody's resume or their out. And you're like wow like. They're an expert at xyz or whatever and yet at least for me which i would imagine. This is true for most people. It's like a journey. Along the way we start picking up these interests and facets of what is drawing your attention and for me. It was all from my own personal healing journey. And if we were to rewind the clock like eight years ago you would have a very different mary. I was about eighty pounds heavier than i am now. I was dealing with like really extreme anxiety and depression. I wasn't a marriage that was just not healthy and not ultimately life-giving and i really had no sense of purpose. No sense of identity and was dealing with autoimmune staff so it was like the culmination of somebody who has totally just lost themselves and i was almost like sleepwalking through life is what it felt like in so there was this moment. I can remember so clearly where it was like. Okay either this is going to go to a bad place really really quickly and it was already kind of spiraling in getting to that point. Or there's got to be more to life than this. Like surely little flicker of hope shirley there's more to life than this and thank god. I listened to that voice of. There's there's more here and started this journey of self discovery and started to come into. What made me come alive. And and authentic and learning about myself and learning about my own feminity and my own just essence as a woman and so little by little. I started kind of adding these different tools to my toolbox That me to do my own work. Further and then ultimately as a life coach now be able to give that gift as medicine two other women who've been on a similar journey so it's kind of like my own work that now gets to be given to others your podcast. I've tuned into a couple of episodes. You're actually right now at the time of this recording. Your your theme for the month is femininity. Yeah and i think that was one of the reasons why i was like okay. Wow when we're here on the get foxy show. That's one of the things that i felt like i wanted to do for my listeners. Was to help them. Learn more about cultivating an amplifying their own divinely given feminine entity and so. Oh mary she's she's she's Needs to be on this show. so what. What have you been discussing on your podcast over the last couple of weeks hot. Oh my gosh. It's so juicy. It's like literally my favorite month so far and i feel like every month. We talk about just amazing topics around self-discovery and mindset and so to end the year as we're recording this in this this topic of feminity is so beautiful because there's all different ways of looking at it. i mean the reality is. Is that this. Concept of femininity. In and of itself is deep. There's a lot of different ways. You could approach it and so on the pike cast. We're looking at that. we're looking at. How do you personally define your own femininity because we're getting all these messages from diet culture from the fashion industry from the porn industry. On what it is to be a woman you have to look certain way you have to behave a certain way. Even on google like the definition of femininity is like agreeable and pleasing and cooperative and quiet. It's just as outdated one dimensional definition of what it is to be a woman so on the show. We're getting to explore like okay. If i could look at the totality of myself as a woman the essence of what makes me divinely female. What does that even look like. How do i even begin to experience her. And not just from what. I've been told from childhood or religion or culturally. You know i know that Especially now as even tricky because we are more out there than ever as women and working were raising children. We are in unconventional relationships. We are in a way trying to do it all. And it's exhausting us. I mean it's really depleting acids burning us out and so it still trying to figure out. How do i define this in a new way. That isn't like in the confines masculinity like. I don't have to work like a man. I don't have to produce like a manner achieve like a man was. It looked like to do that as a woman. So those are kind of the the surface level things that we're talking about on the show and then we're getting into all the fund woohoo staff about your menstrual cycle and the moon cycle and astrology. An archetype. so it's like real a wide range of different lenses in looking at feminine entity. that's fantastic. Yeah i will put a link in the show notes to that specific episode. And it's it's one of the episodes that i tuned into law. You guys are talking some very fascinating stuff that you mentioned how inner in our culture were to a point now where women are trying to do so much and where so many different hats that they're beginning to experience are have already experienced burn. How do you help someone recover from this and really kind of start embracing taking care of themselves. You know i think. I just xfl because like it really is something that is so prevalent right now that just depletion that deprivation an of self care and taking care of the needs that we have and it's bread. Ns almost taught to us from a very early age to give and give and give and give and be yes women to be people pleasers to do it all then you mix that in with like okay now. I'm feeling liberated. And i'm feeling independent in so i want to achieve all of these things and be the best version of myself and the reality is is that no human male or female can keep up with that kind of twenty four seven all in kind of demand for their lives and so to me when we can begin to look at first of all where my feeling deprived like i think we kind of have to almost diagnose the situation i and figure out where we're feeling exhausted. What's exhausted in our lives and get really honest. First and foremost about what's draining ass. What siphoning off our energy because no amount of self care can sort of cover up win we keep in the same patterns that are going to deplete us like that piece has to shift in order to experience something different and so i is identifying where am i at you know from a scale of one to ten on the burn out scale. Where am i am. I am handling it in my functioning. M i barely functioning am i to the point where i feel like i could have a mental breakdown and blow up at any moment which i feel like a lot of us are at that place you know. It's like the covid fatigue. The twenty twenty fatigue is really setting in and our bandwidth is is not what it normally would be and so i think the first step is going okay. I'm i'm really exhausted here. I'm struggling and from that place. Then we can look what needs to shift and starting to identify those warning signs that come into play that are ever so gently to the point. Where it's that little twinge of this is to match and say yes. And then oop i'm over committed and we say more and the point. Eventually we're most of us get total. Burnout is where it's like. Our body is shutting down our adrenals or shot are cortisol levels are depleted our vitamin d is depleted like everything within our physical bodies emotionally and just from a health. Standpoint is gone like the reserve has gone. So that's kind of like the the level ten on that scale. So let's look at where we at been. We can think about recovery replenishment and rejuvenation from a very holistic point of view.

"So being a california boy. I wasn't as familiar with lafayette radio electronics. As folks who lived in new york and new jersey in on that side of the country but in their day they were a big deal. They were a big deal. They went up against the likes of radio shack in heath kit and those kind of folks in terms of mail order electronics and they had stores to boot. I became interested in them. When i saw a few there. Stereo receivers for sale on ebay thinking. Those are the kind of cool. You know what i mean. You know when you're just kind of browsing around any go. That's a nice looking piece of equipment there. So i was initially attracted to their design but as i read up on them i saw that many people like the way they sound as well. They have that nice. Sort analog warm sound that so many people like with vintage stereo receivers and amplifiers now. They did have retail stores back in the day. Lafayette mostly in new york and new jersey as i mentioned earlier but their catalog businesses really the big deal In their lifespan. And if you live somewhere where your electronic shop was maybe a mom paw that had a limited selection or limited inventory. You could get a four hundred page. Lafayette electronics catalog and deceit everything. Everything that you wanted to see you know. The pages were filled with tape. Recorders and microphones and stereo systems. Cb radios and more and more and more they began their business in nineteen thirty-one like so many businesses. At that time they started out with a different name. I don't even recall what it was. But it evolved into lafayette electronics by the sixties and seventies You're seeing their ads. In popular electron ix stereo review in all of that and they had a number of store locations to i believe at their peak. They had something like a hundred and fifty store locations again. Most of them on the east side of the united states. The twenty two hundred. I purchased sold for two hundred ninety nine dollars in nineteen seventy six. It had a walnut. Finished would case. It really a a handsome looking receiver. And you'll see plenty of shots of it because i documented My restoration project of it. So you'll be able to get a good look at it. So i found my working unit on ebay for forty five dollars. It was like the perfect restoration project in the sense that with a little bit of work. And i'm talking about just a couple of hours of work. You could have something that looked ten times better than what you started with and you got it for a low price because you know one of the things about how ebay works is that is. Something looks really crappy. Obviously i mean that makes total sense right however when you know how to restore things you can look at things and say that only requires an hour's worth of work or two hours worth of work or i know how to you know. Get the part for that or or whatever and then suddenly those become you know hidden gems those become treasures that you can get a low price and then bring them back to life and you know. That's definitely what i thought i could do with this. Now it's funny. It took a long time for it to come. It came from new york. Of course right because i guess that's where a lot of those electronics are even those the mail order businesses. Well it came from new york in a large huggies diapers box that was split open on two sides and then it had styrofoam popcorn leaking out the broken areas of the box. I mean this thing. This box was possibly the ugliest box at ever arrived on my front doorstep at the studio. In fact i'm pretty sure that that driver who delivered it could not get out of his truck fast enough. You know what i mean. I i think i remember hearing it land on my doorstep. I'm not even sure if he said it down all the way i just heard this plop which probably made the seems split even more

Dwayne The Rock Johnson is Buying an Entire Football League

"For many of us, Monday nights sieve Longman, Monday, night football. So today's a good day to consider a shakeup in the football world. The potential revival of a would be competitor to the National Football League last week actor and former pro wrestler Dwayne the Rock Johnson with other investors bought a start-up Football League called the xfl this take some explanation especially to those who aren't avid sports fans. Let's start with the xfl contrary to popular belief. The NFL doesn't football is just had a monopoly for the most part for so long that most. Most people consider it an institution for the last couple of decades though rivals have attempted to build new leagues to compete with the. NFL. The XFL is one of those its roots began way back in the year two, thousand when World Wrestling Federation chairman. Vince. McMahon decided to build a league that could compete with the NFL NBC Cohen the League and planned to carry its games the XFL plan to extend the football season by playing games from just after the Super Bowl in February. Until late April. Now, at the time league owners, hopes were high that the Saturday night games could Wu and elusive audience TV. Teenage boys according to CNN. Vince McMahon. WWF had been almost magical in its ability to appeal to twelve to twenty four year. Old Males who typically don't stay home watching TV on Saturday nights. The xfl hoped McMahon could bring that WWF formula to football and win that desirable TV audience, and for one brief moment, it looked like their hopes were within reach the first game in two thousand, one drew more than fifteen million viewers a massive audience. That gold ring looked close and yet it turned out to be so far away as the season wore on audiences spell like a botched handoff after that single season, the xfl shutdown. Sometimes in life timing really is everything, and so it goes for Vince McMahon who decided that twenty twenty would be the right time to revive the xfl it launched in February, pitching the Seattle dragons against the DC defenders teams played five games among both players and owners. Optimism rained TV audiences varied by geography, but were decent enough that by March believe was well into planning the twenty twenty, one season. And then Kobe came along the League canceled the season March twentieth less than a month. Later, the XFL filed for bankruptcy sports writers added the xfl lists of other WanNa, NFL competitors who'd also tried to make a go of it over the years. The XFL seemed to be just another failed startup, but perhaps they declared the league's death too soon. Let's get back to Dwayne Johnson better known as the Rock Johnson actually started his career as a football player, but never made it to the NFL instead, he joined Vince McMahon's wwf where he quickly rose to superstardom before retiring to become an actor, he's now the highest paid actor in the world according to Forbes. With his business partner Danny Garcia who also happens to be his ex wife, the rock led the fifteen million dollar purchase of the. xfl. Out of Bankruptcy Sports Management Company redbird capital as a third partner. Johnson says the purchase was actually Garcia's idea she loves football and when the XFL declared bankruptcy, she saw their chance to own not just a team but an entire league not to get too grand about this. Consider that the salary of a single NFL football star say. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak. Prescott is thirty, one million dollars. That's more than double what the partners paid for the xfl which has eight teams. Still, the deal made headlines. Perhaps it's a bit of hopeful light entertainment amidst the onslaught of grim. News in two thousand, twenty, Garcia. Johnson. Say They plan to produce multimedia content for fans year round, not just during the active spring season at production time, they hadn't yet said when the League will start to play again.

Inside the Downfall of the XFL

"XFL was supposed to be the league that can finally make spring football work with financial backing from WWe's Vince McMahon in veteran leadership from commissioner Oliver Luck. The idea seemed promising. But just five weeks in Copen, nineteen forced the xfl hit pause, and then unlike other leaks. It announced it was shutting down for good. Today the inside story of why the xfl closed doors, and whether it could have been saved. I'M UNICOM'S IT's Tuesday June sixteenth. This is espn daily presented by marathon. Shaken. What's Shakin what she can not much some to you're talking to you Kevin Siefert writes about the NFL and the xfl for ESPN. So Kevin the last time you and I talked was to preview the xfl so excited about this new league time the rules and how funding would be, and whether it would work, and while sadly, we are gathered here today to autopsy the xfl the. League officially suspended their operations on April tenth season quote the uncertainty of the current environment, obviously referencing the corona virus pandemic. What was it like inside the League on that day? It was pretty wild. Actually talked to Kurt unsecure. WHO's the president of the Saint? Louis? Battle. Hawks and he heard some rumors he had wondered if the League would. Need to cut back in some way like many businesses, but he at most thought there might be some layoffs or potentially some furloughs, but when he woke up that morning. Like many other xfl employees he saw the. Direct deposit from. His pay. Was much larger than normal. Anyone who's ever worked in an office setting or a for a company of any kind knows that on your last day you get a paycheck for your salary, and also for any occasion time accumulated, and that's what that's. What happened here and that was really the first sign that he occurred hunziker or anybody. Really who worked for the xfl knew that not only were some changes about to happen, but. Some really ominous events were about the Kerr that day. And they found out. There was a going to be an all company conference. Call at about noon. And that's where they were informed that everyone who works for the League was terminated. Kevin Win all that down. The XFL was on hold like pretty much everything else right I mean the pandemic hit a sports world back in March when the NBA system. It's season. WWe Closes headquarters in Stamford Connecticut days later then on March. Twentieth six fell big flat out of their season, and said we look forward to playing full seasons for you, and with you in twenty twenty one, so it seemed like at the time the plan wasn't afford the league entirely, but just hit pause. Pick up when the pandemic was over. Why do you think they thought they could keep going back then? I think they they felt pretty good that in the five weeks at the season had managed to get through they had. Gone a long way. Towards proving the concept they had pulled in about twenty million league revenues, and they're projecting forty six million through the rest of the year. They're TV. Ratings had dipped, but they were about to go on a run of having most of their games, either on ABC or Fox and so, that would probably at least stabilized the ratings, and they thought that they would have for the first time since they had started building the league time to really sit down, pull apart their thoughts and come up with a better product, the following year Vince McMahon who the owner of the League he had pulled almost four hundred million dollars out of WWe stocks into his personal account to finance. Really for two or three years, and so they knew the money was there, he had put up about two hundred million, and was committed to paying another hundred and fifty million a year for a few years. Until they could potentially get the profitability, so there was. A lot of confidence that the money existed to continue subsidizing the League in that long term plan would not be sacrificed just because the season had to end more abruptly than they had hoped. I didn't know that so the xfl Vince McMahon rather was using wwe money to fund the XFL. Right away you know Vincent Man's the owner of w w well early state, the founder and the CEO, and so he had lots of stock, and so he used that stock eventually to fund the XFL. There was a division, a financial and business division, but you know there was also a shared services agreement between the two. Certainly the way they were able to recruit coaches and front office people and even the Commissioner Oliver luck the way they were able to convince people to come aboard was the show them the plan the financial plan that he had to spend money over the over those three years, there was public documents. That showed that the stock had been sold in that the money was now. In Vincent. Man's hands to fund the XFL and that's why they they felt so good about it. So the xfl like every other sport announces. Hey, we're going on pause. Then a couple of weeks pass. What was the state of play at the beginning of April? Really at the beginning of April the XFL was in off season mode. Oliver Lock. WHO's the commissioner had been asked to come up with twenty, twenty, one I jets. He had asked all the department has all the team presidents to come up with plans to market the teams throughout the long off season. That was to come. Everything was in the XFL. Offices were being directed towards this twenty twenty one season and a lot of times towards the twenty twenty two seasons well, they were looking ahead, saying okay, here's what we want to do in twenty twenty one. We WanNa make it better, and this is what we want and twenty twenty two, and then then we look to see if we can be profitable and this was all going on really. Really, in between the time, the xfl canceled season, and when it shuttered and had bankruptcy, and so those plans were all compiled, and I'll reluctant demand to Vince McMahon, and then they didn't hear anything. They didn't hear anything back, and they thought maybe it was because Wrestlemainia was going on. People had their attention there, but that was something that caused a little bit of unease as the second week of April arrived and that. They've been asked to create these budgets. And then there have been radio silence. So Oliver Overlook. Who was commissioner of the XFL also Andrew looks father for those who don't know and has been a sports executive for years used to NFL Europe who's an executive with the NCWA? He's going about his business. Assuming the league's going to come back putting together some plans, and then what happens. And then he gets a call or actually gets a letter on April ninth stating that he had been fired for cause and the letter came from. Vincent man and from the his attorney listing supposed. Infractions to his contract into his duties that Oliver Luck had apparently committed in his response, Oliver Luck in his legal papers, said he had never been told of any of these issues, but on April Ninth I, think about five o'clock is when Oliver Luck found out, he'd been fired. So what elect do? You know he is already in his home. In Indianapolis, the xfl offices were closed, and so he immediately got with his lawyer. Because when you get fired, because usually that can mean that the guarantee in your contract is no longer valid, and so he has sued for wrongful termination, not only disputing the reasons that Vince McMahon fired him which among other reasons, whereas the use of company cell phone for personal reasons which. Many people in the xfl on in the public to be an awfully little bit of a petty, and that's not even editorializing. It's just a fact. You know petty reason to fire sports commissioner WHO's making. Between five and seven million dollars a year, and so he not only is disputing the facts of what was in the latter, his termination letter, but also that the xfl never gave him the thirty days. That's required in his contract to correct any issues that ownership is having, and so that is currently playing out in court. We'll see who wins on that or whether there is some kind of negotiation that occurs, but at the moment Oliver Luck seeking twenty three point eight million dollars from Vince McMahon, who can fill the contract that he signed in two thousand, eighteen to be the commissioner of the xfl.

College football in the spring? It's yet another idea being floated

"So we don't know about the future college football this season obviously there's a lot of reports floating around to maybe games played in front of no fans Notre Dame's athletic director said he's not interested in playing games a frontal fans Mike Gundy wants games played right away yeah and Kerr Kerr free was kind of the dooms dayers suggesting that there was not gonna be college football played all this year well there is a new suggestion or theory that perhaps college football could be moved to the spring semester that kind of like spring sports you could have college football's start after the Superbowl February March April being your three months of the year you would play college football instead of September October November now I think we're a ways off from this being a reality but it's a contingency plan because you kind of have to fit in your sporting season two the semesters because you have student athletes there so morass I gotta say yeah we we've been frothing at the mouth for spring football and we've seen the XFL failing the alliance fail but wanted to wouldn't fail is spring college football and it would be hard to sit through the entire fall without it right by if we had college football on a platform to itself what you do is you're talking football from real games from the start of September through may the you would have a real football games significant important football games September October November December January and then roll into college football February March April may be into may you would be beside yourself and dare I say it on national championship game played on the weekend instead of a Monday because they don't have to worry about the NFL playoffs as well as a pay off at the end instead of playing the game until one AM on a Monday night how great would that be it be great I've always said this I I think the college football is obviously a monster but that the one thing that could make college football even a little bit better is if it moved away from the NFL schedule because then I would treat college football like the NFL in all the markets in major cities that have NFL teams and look it would take away the crisp traditional fall air and you know going back to school and all that stuff if you would turn
