"Road crews continued to remove snow and treat ice this morning, we're looking at a high of 40° today and a low of 12. If you do have to leave the house today, make sure you have washer fluid in your car, because like my tax returns, it's gonna get sloppy. And now for our top story this morning, as Rita Furman achieved a world record at the mad fun arcade in Brooklyn, New York, for spinning a Korean wooden top for 7 hours. According to the Kansas City Beacon, while other Kansas counties hesitated to spend money from the COVID relief fund known as the cares act until they had more guidance, wyandotte county was able to spend the money right away. Crystal spragg, who acted as the county's cares act planning team manager said, there's a scrappiness to wine county. We know how to respond to this crisis Fast & Furious to help the people in our community. When asked if she had distributed all the funds, she said, why is there more? In celebrity news, there is supposed controversy over a Vanity Fair cover with Nicole Kidman, dressed in what people are saying, is a revealing schoolgirl type uniform. To hear his opinion on this Vanity Fair cover and social media controversy, let's go to our opinion editor, old cartoon wolf. Cartoon wolf, what do you make of this cover? Now for sports, sumo is getting big, in Texas. According to a Texas monthly article, the sumo Dallas club is finally getting some attention with viral videos they've put out other sumo practices. The sumo Dallas club is hoping to expand sumo wrestling in Texas, while staying true to the sumo culture. Some don't even wear underwear under their sumo belts, which are called mawashi. As in since I didn't wear underwear, I'm a washes. According to NPR, Americans are fleeing deep blue and red areas to escape people, they don't agree with. It's a growing phenomenon, and to be honest, this article really bothered me, so I talked to my wife about it. She said, can't people just tune out other people when they aren't interested in what they're saying. And I said Susie, it's not that easy. She said, uh huh. I said, we have to learn to live together. We are the United States of America, not some states here, in some states there, and she said, uh huh. And I was like, plus, it's not strangers. It's family. It's people you love, spilling their hearts out to you and she said, yes, spaghetti for dinner sounds fine. And now a word from our sponsors. Do you want to reach dozens of people at once, so you could probably just text? Well, now you can. Advertise your event product or send a message of support to your friend who is going through a divorce who you knew would get divorced, and if you think their divorce is bad, wait until they start dating again. Send max dash crites are $1 and your message will be on the show. First, a correction from one of yesterday's ads, apparently in the ad for the $20 all you can scoop manure. I fail to say it was horse manure. The sponsor was worried. The word manure would be confused with human feces, which I know that's true because a lot of people interchange the words. Poop or due to her stinky dink for words like dung or manure or words that you use for animal. Excrement. So I apologize. And I asked if that was a joke ad and apparently it's not. So if you need manure, from a horse, not a human, contact me. To be clear, the farm also does produce human feces, but those are not for sale currently..

"In Napoleon, w tuz 99.9 FM in New Philadelphia, W L K R 95.3 in Norwalk and w L E c 14 50 A m in Sandusky. I'm Ty Higgins. Is projected that 40% of jobs in agriculture could go unfulfilled within the next five years without efforts to attract young leaders to the industry. That's where the Ohio Farm Bureau foundations youth pathways to careers in agriculture Grant program comes in Kelly Burns joins us She's executive director of the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation. Kelly, Welcome to our Ohio Weekly. Thanks to my pleasure to be here. First of all, give us an overview of the foundation. Well, the foundation is, uh, separate five Oh one c three affiliate here with the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation. If you think about the federation in terms of being the guardians of today and advocating and protecting the rights of Ohio farmers think of the foundation as sort of the champions for tomorrow. And really, through our scholarship programs, our grant opportunities like this. You've pathways one as well as our innovative programming. We are really trying to support that next generation. Of a good leaders and skilled workforce to really help with the knee. That's out there. Currently, I mentioned 40% of jobs in AG could go unfulfilled. That's a staggering number. There is a strong need. I mean, our research even shows that there is a need over the next 10 years for nearly 500,000 workers for agribusiness, occupations and 90,000 of those will be needed in direct farming occupations, and I I truly believe that, um Part of what the foundation's mission is, is to really educate on these farming occupations kind of dispel those misperceptions of what it means to work within agriculture. You know when you think when students think of agriculture they think of working long hours they think of getting really dirty. Uh and they think of probably their grandparents or their great grandparents who were on the farm and so By showcasing a lot of these new and innovative ways and careers that students can get involved will really help to spark. I think a lot of their interest and thinking outside of that box tell us more about the Youth Pathways Grant program. Well. Our youth Pathways Grant program for careers in agriculture, which is funded through our Fisher Fund for lifelong learning here at the foundation is really an opportunity where we invite outside organizations to apply for a grant. Valued up to $100,000 each year that we give out at the end of the year. And we really want to focus on efforts that introduce students to a lot of these careers and training them for these high demand opportunities within, uh, agriculture, environmental sciences. And we're really particularly focused on programs that create career pathways that allow students to explore with mentors and different organizations and partners that present a wide variety of careers related in related fields within agriculture, including some of those stem fields. A lot of science technology engineering that we're seeing these days in agriculture. Lot of money up for grabs with these grants, so those interested organizations what do they have to do? And who do they have to be in order to qualify for something like this? So we encourage everyone to visit our website fbf dot org Backslash Foundation. Click on our grants button, and it's really a three step process. First, we ask organizations to sign up for what we call a pitch session. This is a wonderful opportunity where they get to come into a room virtually this year, of course, and present their ideas, but also hear the ideas of other organizations who are also applying for these dollars, So it's a tremendous learning opportunity. Where we provide feedback, um, on what they presented to try to hone in on exactly what we're looking for, with our impact. So the pitch sessions sign up. We have a deadline of September 24th. Which is coming up soon and then the actual pitch sessions will take place The following week on September 29th. From there, then organizations can go back and refine their application and final proposals will then be submitted by October, 18th. All in all, we hope to award these grants by the end of November for the upcoming year of 2022 Kelly Burns, executive director of the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation, as she mentioned you can find out more about these youth pathways, grant programs and more about the foundation. At oh. Fbf dot org slash foundation. Thank you. Thank you also appreciate John Keane giving us his time earlier today he's the Northern Service forestry coordinator for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry, Talking about Ohio's huge timber industry. All those locations will have individuals staffing Those to take samples For your dear harvest but those times If you harvested you're outside of those times i'm but still during the season There will be a kiosk available from october. First through january eleventh Where you'll actually be able to bring your sample portion of the deer to that kiosk. Fill out some information On a piece of paper That's provided and get a number. That is a special to your deer And you'll be to actually check that deer online to see you know if it was positive or not right for cd and that sample portion is the lymph nodes correct correct Though the the portion that an individual would provide to the kiosk. We're not asking you to take each lymph node out of the deer But the head of the deer is what we're looking for and then obviously if you harvest a trophy animal that you wanna get mounted There some other options as well We have local taxes ernest That can take samples as well For that we would just wanna know you harvest a deer inside that area and where you're taking it. Okay so we can get a sample from it. I get that so make sure that That you're doing that so for folks that are listening listening in that aren't hunters and they think to themselves. Why why do. I need to be concerned. Or why do i need to know about chronic wasting disease. Cw wise important to me because you need to know what's going on for one thing. Correct correct Yes so even. If you don't hunt you can be affected by this I know a lot of people that aren't aren't big hunters but they like to feed the wildlife whether it's to throw some seat out for the birds and squirrels and whatnot And they have deer coming into their backyard..

That's where i started to learn a little bit about it but obviously coming in to To hunting season and whatnot. It's a concern especially if you harvest a deer in that control area. If that happens you've got some things you have to do. In order to take that deer correct. Yes so you know. Obviously in ohio anytime you however to deer hunting. License deer permit are required. And you need to follow the deregulations That are provided by state of ohio. Division of wildlife With those special regulations this year will be the disease surveillance area Which will include six townships in marion. county all of wyandotte county and three townships and hardin county So some of the things that immediately went into effect after It was declared a disease surveillance area. was the requirement that all deer harvested with it at area On specific dates be brought For mandatory testing To see if they do have the chronic wasting disease as well as optional testing throughout the whole season which is obviously highly encouraged The more deer that we can get tested inside this disease surveillance area the better opportunity. We are going to have to detect if there is another dear positive with. Cw de calm. And i'll have some dates. I can talk about in some locations as well for that. Yeah go ahead actually. We're we're on that topic so go ahead and hit some of the dates and some of the areas so that you can You can get that testing done because we're coming up a little bit on on. Find the camping section and register. it's really cheap. We still have campsites available for july fourth weekend. Who else in the tri county area can say that they have that i am so looking forward to it. I'm the thirty amp guy and we will have a wonderful time that weekend. Yeah yup i know we will you follow it and and and i wanna i wanna let the crowd no also. That's all you donate a lot of times. We really appreciate your time. Thank you very much. I appreciate what you guys do. It is a one hundred percent volunteer effort and the work that you guys do with the young professionals to get this thing going. It's unbelievable and i know it's a passion. It's something in your heart but you guys do a wonderful job with tele as we wrap up a little bit about the young professionals and why you guys do what you do and who all gets together for that. So we're a group of of young people in wyandotte county. And it doesn't have to be exclusively. Why not county. We would accept other members are our membership is is pretty loose. It's it's people under forty five years old it doesn't you don't have to be a banker a lower your or anything like that to be the young professionals. You just have to be a professional at what you do and by that i mean you have to be able to be trusted by your boss to accomplish tasks and you have to do it in a manner that doesn't basically embarrass your company right We have construction workers we have bridge builders we have everybody in between And and we really just like to have fun. That's our our main goal and if we can do that while raising money and being charitable organization then that's just icing on the cake. So weinstock was created several years back as a as a fundraising event. And it's turned into what it is today and basically there are people that do this for a living and we do it volunteer for charity. So it- it's a fantastic organization None of us take any salaries. It's not like it's not like that. So it's it's really worth it. We hope you can make it. It's inexpensive to.

"Different reasons, but I think they all have to kind of admit for one reason or another. Whether it's health or whether it's economic lockdowns don't work is what they're admitting. Hear Lightfoot in Chicago. The mayor of Chicago is going to get on the phone, she says. With Governor Pritzker of Illinois to say, Hey, these lockdowns here. Have concerns that we're not getting any better. Here's why I think everybody is just taking the parties that were stopping from happening legally, and they're just doing them any way out of sight. Yeah. Dumb ass. Oh, that's what people do get a little secret. It's happened in time or instant in time since Memorial. I mean, like it's a time honored tradition. That's what happens. Check out the old black and white film. It's always happened. They called him speakeasies before that, like people do stuff. You just Boy, it's it never ceases to amaze me how these little despot's continued to rise up and think they could just tell the American public what to do, and the American public will just stop doing What they've always legally been allowed to do. So that's the story. They're. Of course you heard earlier that Cuomo this week said We just can't economically sustainably continue to stay close. We're gonna have to Huh? Well, look welcome aboard. Restaurants and bars should be opened as soon as possible since Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot yesterday. Indoor service of those businesses not have not been allowed. In Chicago since October. The metrics remain significantly higher than they were in the summer. When indoor drinking and dining was allowed. I'm very, very focused on getting restaurants re opened. Because, she says, ultimately people are People were partying in secret and spread in the damn virus anyway, you know, in in Kansas City, my birth place. Where Ah Do a second show every day. I think I've told you There's an interesting phenomenon happening. You know how we've spent a lot of time talking about In this election. Feeling a little dispirited, glum and down, and what can you do to impact things and how can you make a difference? And we've talked about how much your local voice matters and what local leadership could do well, You're certainly seeing it in Kansas City, where they're not under as aggressive lockdowns. I mean they have a Democrat governor. Although she is in Kansas, the Democrat governor is I mean people like a wolf and Murphy. Make the Democrat governor Kansas look like Margaret Thatcher. Um, there's a rock ribbed conservative Republican governor of Missouri. Kansas City is a city that Is in Missouri but is kind of Metropolitan Kansas City encompasses both both sides of the state line. So when you talk about Kansas City, it is true that Metro Kansas City lives on both sides. The state line But what's interesting is Neighboring a neighboring county on the Kansas side. They were all on both sides of state line and the Kansas City Metro area. We're all on sort of a business bar restaurant lockdown at 10 o'clock time table together. So all bars and restaurants had agreed. Basically, all city governments had agreed. Okay, we're all going to shut down a 10 o'clock together. Well this week one of the county's on the Kansas side. Decided. We're gonna let you guys stay open the midnight now. Well as soon as that happened. Kansas City proper. And the city of Kansas City sits in a city called Jackson in a county called Jackson County. On the Missouri side, it butts up to Wyandotte County that did this on the Kansas side as soon as wine that county in Kansas did that Jackson can't even woke US two then. Because why fast, Eddie? I'm one first. What is two hours due to if they're going to do it right on the other side of the river, then the people on the Missouri side I'm gonna go right over. That's exactly so That's that's what I mean. That's the kind of impact that local leadership can have. That's that's how stupid it all his first of all, But that's also the kind of impact you can have on a dime, Dom. It's like a house of cards, dominoes. People are there, these local elected leaders There. They're wet blankets their paper tigers. They buckle at the slightest amount of pressure. And I, It's just that a lot of times. People don't hassle their city councils. They don't hassle their county commissioners. And they don't bother the much their health departments, their county health departments. You don't you don't ring their bells much. They just kind of issue arbitrary guidelines and then people kind of deferred to these arbitrary well, county health says. Good. I mean, when was the last time you remember even knowing who your county health director is? Even though? No, I don't. No, no, I'll be honest. I live in Chester County. I don't know who the health director isn't just can't even through all this. I still don't know. And I still hear people in Chester County saying How can Chester County Health Guidance is what the hell? Who is that? Who is this person? Why are all of our lives now? Upended because of this, you know, wonderful, magical, powerful Oz figura Chester County, Right? And shouldn't we know who they are? You know, why did they get to have all so My point is, I guess. It's just it's remarkable to see people like Lori Lightfoot. You know, in Chicago and counties in Kansas City, for instance, start to buckle and I think you're gonna see more of that now, um, despite the vaccine situation Cheryl Atkinson has an interesting story coming up on Sinclair television this weekend. She's interviewing some doctors on the vaccine. You know not to. I don't. I don't mean to be a Debbie downer about the vaccine, but I still don't think people really understand. The way this works. This is not I get shot in the arm with the vaccine. I'll never catch Cove. It does. Do people understand that? I still don't really people get that. I think people think I get the covert shot. I'll never catch Cove it again. That's not true. Like there's a clip out there that Cheryl the on social media interviewing this dock, and he said, Well, you know, I mean immune response is very He said. You know, certain immune systems could you're talking about maybe Strong immune system, you know, without a booster, maybe 67 months. Oh, uh, I literally heard news report yesterday that saying they still don't know if it stops Corona virus or if it takes away symptoms like I'm like, How the hell don't you know what it does? So when they talk about 98 95% advocacy late It's like for a finite amount of time. It's not, folks, This is not like you get the coronavirus shot and you're immune from Corona virus, you know?.
