"You can call nickel answer the phone and if you're interesting enough to put you on the radio yeah I think you're interesting enough he'll answer the phone for you that's right right okay I I swear to god I'm gonna have fun today we're going to do some stuff on the show it's interesting but I got to get this out there first and we're gonna talk about this a couple times during the show actually because it takes the hell out of me okay we've been talking over and over about how they're not enough masks right there are not enough mass for our front line professionals doctors and nurses are re using masks some departments cannot get masks the White House is considering in order that wouldnt recommend all Americans wear masks but there are not enough masks there aren't there are not enough mass one of the biggest manufactures of masks in the world is three AM you know three they make sticky notes and make office supplies they make masks and they're based in Minnesota they make a lot of masks well it's come to everybody's attention because of something that happened in Florida that they are shipping a lot of the masks that they're currently manufacturing overseas the head of Florida's division of emergency management is accusing them of shipping them overseas because overseas countries and buyers are willing to pay more for them in Florida they don't have enough mass for health care workers there doctors and nurses do not have enough masks in Florida so they went to three on the so we want to buy more masks and they were told well they're not available and we come to find out you know why they're not available because they are selling them to countries overseas who are paying with cash so three M. is making masks and they're selling them overseas because countries overseas are stepping forward and paying five to ten times more than they're worth and so you have places like Florida that do not have enough masks the guy in Florida in charge of their emergency management says he talked to someone at three AM who told him listen we're sorry but your order got pushed down their foreign countries who do business differently and they're showing up with cash and so we're selling them to those countries so he got in touch with someone higher up at three AM he said I thought they would finally say to me that final sell me some eggs on the king a stink about it instead the guy three M. said yeah the system is completely broken we've lost control and we're selling masks overseas instead because there's more money to be made so this is the polar opposite of what we're seeing with a lot of American companies they are shutting down production of what they're doing to make these mass right like you're not just making masks but selling them outside the country for more money so this is not what we're used to seeing at this point in time so the president's ticked so the president has invoked the defense production act and he's telling three element you need to make those masked in those masks need to stay here he's tweeting about it the C. E. O. of three M. is responding he said his company is looking to double production in the next twelve months he says production will go up forty percent in June in June we're gonna hit the peak of this thing in the next couple of weeks to the next month anything in June we're gonna have more masks this is what he also said the guy in charge of three there are global humanitarian issues to consider before directing most production to the U. S. and besides if we put all our for all of our production to the U. S. other countries may retaliate and stop sending supplies to the U. S. okay well I guess that's a chance we're gonna have to take you were at U. S. company we are in crisis it's a pandemic every state almost is locked down and your crappy company is producing mast and sending them overseas and we have a front line workers dying here yeah it seems to me it just optics wise that they're carrying a lot more about their bottom line than they are about lives of American people to play devil's advocate some of the countries that they're shipping their masks to three M. is the only manufacturer of the supplies in those countries so what we don't have enough mass here right I mean there are master being manufactured here and literally being shipped overseas it's not just their company's located overseas that are making mass for overseas they are being made in America wrapped in that fancy bubble wrap on a pallet and shipped overseas so how is that happening I don't see why they can't sort of meet in the middle being diplomatic saying okay we're gonna pull back on some of the stuff that were sending overseas although they may have ordered it because of what's happening here but still produce the masks for both people but just maybe not you know I don't know is there a way to do that gold we've seen in the U. S. issues of relying on one country for your supply chain for certain items in China and perhaps that's a message to these countries don't just rely on one country or one company to be your supply chain because this might happen you know this is going to sound really harsh okay I want people to be healthy everywhere in the world I want people here to be healthy first we're trying to prevent this thing by we're staying in our house the place was gonna get my fish fry tonight isn't even doing it because they don't have a way to do it and yet we have a company that's an American company and they're prioritizing what happens overseas we help overseas if we can help ourselves first why are we not helping ourselves first shame on you three AM bad bad behavior it's three twenty seven at W. And what I love about the awards is that we will recognize excellence at took place on the playing field tonight. But we will also recognize stories that are inspiring stories that are uplifting stories that moved and made a difference in our community. They will all be recognized. It's cool because we say, we're going to roll out the red carpet tonight, though, we're. Rolling out the blue carpet. I like that. I love it, and there will be members of the brewers here. "Michael Cohen upstages his own Capitol Hill appearance later this morning by releasing what he's going to say late last night thoughts. The President Trump's Twitter thumbs all aflutter this morning as he sits down with North Korea's leader in Hanoi. Joining us live ABC news correspondent Mark Remillard from Washington. Mark so much to go through in this corner opening statement. Yeah. Twenty pages of opening statements here that we've gotten to go through. And there is a lot in this Michael Cohen says that he was ashamed of his work for President Trump. And obviously when he was just Donald Trump before being president. But he in this directly calls, the president of the United States a con man and a cheat. And he has also prepared to release two checks one which we now have a copy of which is a thirty five thousand dollar payment to Michael Cohen signed by President Trump doesn't specify what that was four. But Cohen says that was one of a number of installment payments to Michael Cohen to reimburse him for. One hundred thirty thousand dollar payment to stormy Daniels to keep President Trump's fair with her quiet, and again, going back President Trump says he has no knowledge back in April two thousand eighteen said he had no knowledge of that occurring. The hush money payments in you'd have to ask Michael Cohen also talks about the DNC WikiLeaks emails saying that President Trump did have knowledge of that. And while Cohen says that he does not have direct evidence that Trump colluded with Russia. He does say that he has his suspicions Mark. Is there any way that those those checks that were written to Michael Cohen could be explained in a different way? That's a good question. I think there's been some question about whether or not those were those legal retainers. But I think that that's certainly Michael Cohen is saying that that is not the case, and that those were repayments, and in fact, he paints this picture of the first time that he went down to the White House met with President Trump in the White House. The president is is pointing out things saying look at this look at this. He's now in the Oval Office and President Trump is saying, oh, by the way, don't worry that check is coming which really almost speaks the idea that there may have been campaign finance violations laws broken within the Oval Office. So if that's true. And obviously again, a big part of today is Michael Cohen zone credibility. He is a convicted felon. He's been disbarred from New York, and he previously lied to congress. And this is someone who's going to jail. So, and that's what the White House has said that he's, you know, an uncritical witness, and and that no one should. Believe what he's saying. We're live with ABC's Mark Remillard on WTMJ talking about Michael Coen's opening statement that will be given an about an hour and a half from now live on all the networks in another thing. I found interesting Mark was this. This disclosure this allegation by corn about the Trump Tower in Moscow and how he lied about it. The president lied about it in the president. He says lied about it because he didn't think he was going to win the election that he figured it would be just life is normally go ahead and pursue this project without having to worry about working on it. Yeah. He says in this that in fact, he says at one point President Trump told him that his campaign would be the biggest public relations campaign or infomercial. I believe was the word he used in that as he says is that the president didn't really intend to win the presidency. And that he's an Cohen in. Here says that at least half a dozen times between the Iowa caucus in January two thousand sixteen and the end of June. When President Trump asked. Him. How's it going in Russia and referring as Cohen believed to that Trump Moscow tower, and we have also learned independently of Cohen's testimony here that that project that the possibility which never came to fruition. But the possibility of a Trump Tower Moscow went much deeper into the campaign than originally thought. And what and what President Trump had originally said he said during the campaign, I know business in Russia have no business dealings in Russia yet Rudy Giuliani has come out to say that it went deep into twenty sixteen that they were still negotiating this. And Michael Cohen says he was the guy doing that for them ABC's. Mark Reynolds, joining us live on WTMJ, Mark. Thank you so much. Thank you seven twenty-seven time. Now for news about your money. "Twenty-five is that a word. I think it is. Now urban dictionary melting smelting. US Senator Ron Johnson is with us this afternoon. Good afternoon. Senator. That's right. That's that became a word. Did strategically. To ask you about this emergency declaration over the weekend. You run meet the press, and I saw that looking pretty dapper in your in your fancy suit. Where do you come down on this? The president declaring a national emergency to fund the wall. It's just so unfortunate. The Democrats are being such hypocrites. Back better berries in the past the tune of eight billion dollars in two thousand thirteen immigration Bill over forty billion dollars for better border scaredy. The only reason they won't provide funding for very very well reasons, you know, well, -sition better barriers is because Donald Trump, so there'd be complete hypocrites. So you're the first thing to make. But now there's this would be an expansion of this NASA emergency act, you already see it's going to be held up in the courts. And so, you know, my concern is you won't get wa-build using that. So what I'm hoping to do is there other one of the things I next, and there's you know within an appropriate account for the department defense. I over two billion dollars for combating drugs. Well, built building better berries on the southwest border would certainly help us combat drug. So I think within those appropriate accounts, the present probably has agreed deal, discretionary, I would. I'd like to try and convince the president administration use that discretion. So we don't have the court challenge. So we don't expand this national emergency act. But you know, this is all flocks. Look at the exact wording of the statute. But let's face it one points. I made it is true pastime Seuss have given all kinds of their constitutional authority willingly to the ministration primarily because they're cows. Let the president take the heat on on these types of issues and as a result. Congress is eight diminish branch of government. It's about time steps up plate in protective custody power. So again, I'm not sure how this all ends. But I have to stress again, crescent Trump is exactly right. We need better barriers five point seven billion dollars. They reasonable figure Democrats are leading the unreasonable hypocrites here Senator if you're forced to vote on this would you vote to approve the president's emergency declaration again, as I said on meet the press, I really have to take a look at the case. He makes exactly what he asked us for. So it's really truly to say I completely support better berries. I completely support him full utilizing the appropriations authority that his priority. Been granted. Him. I would say it seem use this -mergency act the way he'd want wanna use it as I agree Thursday. It really is a pretty dramatic expansion of that authority. And again, I gotta look down the road for another president like President Obama or Kamala Harris or Bernie Sanders how they might misuse that type of thing as well. So. I'm I'm a constitutional. We should have three coats ranches government. We don't have them. Now, the presidency is really the kind of supreme branch, and or the supreme court, and congress is is really a kind of a shadow of itself in many respects. So we really ought to restore that constitutional bounce Senator. You talked about trying to convince the White House or talked to the president you have his ear occasionally is he persuadable? I think he is. Yeah. He he he listens. He he is not afraid to having argumentation inside your office. I've heard many participating some myself. And now, he definitely listens. But he has his point of view, and he's not afraid to make decisions. He's not afraid to buck. Everybody else. Quite honestly, if he thinks, you know, what are you deciding is the correct course of action, and he's he's the president. I'm not. So in the end is the what he's the decider is. I think George W Bush said that as well. So it's just that's just the true. So my role is to provide him as much information as I can provide him. Why the council's I can provide the then also realize in the end he makes the decision unless there's something I have to go down. Decision. Senator you've joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers calling on the Trump administration to pull back on increased tariffs where does that stand? Well, again, what I don't wanna do is undermine his go sheeting strategy here. Once again, President Trump is absolutely right. China abused world trading organisation, they have stolen through cyber attacks and through espionage, not only are are industrial secrets, but our our military secrets you know, they are not playing by the rules. And so we're definitely trying to pressure China into coming back into the world trading, or you know, the world trading regime by actually following the rules. So the problem with that is the tariffs are doing a lot of damage short term. And you know, we have a terrorist because China a non market economy, grossly over produced capacity and steel, which is harmed Steele street throughout the rest of the world and trying to do that another ten strategic industries by twenty twenty. Five. So again, what the president's trying to do is. Absolutely, right. But I have to my responsibility to make sure that he realizes these terrorists are very damaging particularly steel tariffs retaliatory once and just urge him to go as quickly as possible and not be at war with everybody else. Because the way we bring China. Into the into the trading regime following the rules is by having every other Mason the world pressuring China to do. So US Senator Ron Johnson. Thank you so much Senator every day for twenty seven news about your money. Tony Drake with the WTMJ Drake associates market update. "Esther my abilities to the best of my ability. So help me God just a few weeks into the job Johnson's newly minted governor. Tony Ebbers doesn't have a whole lot to look back on as he prepares for tonight's state of the state address in Madison. That's why this evening's talk is expected to be far more forward looking than what we've become used to is tutoring. Predecessor Scott Walker. Joining us live today's TM force. Charles benson. Your morning, Charles. Yeah. Good morning. It sounds like the state of the state is gonna be cold and snow pretty much probably a little bit of green talking about the new budget. I would imagine. That's where Tony Uber's is gonna put the first shoveled into the ground on this talk. Yeah. You know, these state of the state speech is as you point out largely symbolic gives a chance to sort of lay out of vision. And what you know, Tony only been on the job two weeks here. So I think what we're going to hear from the governor largely campaign things the big ideas that he can't pay not. And what's going to be most interesting for me is that he's gonna be in front of a room inside a room of lawmakers who will determine just how successful he's going to be the first two years. We saw in the inauguration speech that he really struck a bipartisan tone expect to hear more about that tonight it by Parsons sort of where they can get along. But he does have some ideas there that Republicans I've already put up a hand it says, no not going to happen. So curious as to what he will make in terms of what could be his top priority. He's dropped some hints of the campaign trail about expanding Medicaid about criminal Justice reform about expanding or increasing funding for the state. Eight budget. So we're gonna hear more on those things, but not a lot of detail that normally comes a little bit later in his budget address, even with his vision or Charles, and some of the things that he had mentioned on the campaign trail on which is assuming assuming that this is why Wisconsin I voted for him for governor. A lot of those measures are going to be fought tooth and nail by the GOP control legislature. Aren't they? Yeah. But that's what's going to be interesting right now India several you're already the Republicans talk about passing a pre existing condition. This was a big campaign issue, and they met with Tony last week and got some ideas on where he thought it needed to go. And so the question here is how will Republicans work to try to get governor university in on what they're doing or vice versa. How will governor Everts work to try to get Republicans to agree to things that he's going to do one of the things that caught my attention? It looking at some of the articles leading up to tonight is that, you know, governor Everts his strong to isn't always these kinds of speeches. But what is what's going to happen after the speech? And what I read is that one of the Republican lawmakers will be going to the executive residence that I probably have a chance to talk to the governor Everts, that's where he works. Well, sort of one on one group settings talking to people about ideas. Will anything get accomplished afterward? No. But it's those conversations those types of dialogues that's the type of governor he wants to be in terms of having conversations with folks and see where they can get together in a room governor giving his first state of the state address tonight in medicine. Today's TM force Charles Manson joining us live with a preview Charles. Thanks as always. My pleasure. Seven twenty seven to WTMJ time. Now for news about your money. "We are in the midst of a government shutdown. It has all kinds of impacts on all kinds of folks. Especially those who travel we're hearing things about TSA. We're hearing things about passports will here to set fact straight from fiction is FOX world travels rose gravy, your Saturdays here on the travel on WTMJ. How're you doing rose hygiene? Let's start first off with TSA. What are you hearing from travelers? Are there issues are there safety concerns? There are definitely issues. What we're seeing is. Of course, people calling out sick. And so we've got some recommendations some of us have going to sound a little bit sensible, and we should do it all the time and some of it, maybe it's just something you would do during this time. First of all, of course, arrive early if you have been to get stuck in TSA. It's your problem to fix that. Another thing that many people aren't aware of is. There is a TSA app. It's my TSA. And if you download that you can check wait times at any airport in the US. Rosie. If I'm still waiting on a passport to be processed. And I have a trip scheduled I say June of this year. Is there a time when I should start really considering maybe canceling the trip overseas because it it just might not be possible for that passport to arrive in time. Well, I checked the State Department's website this morning and right now they're still saying it's four to six weeks for a passport. And that's the typical time line that we expect truth be told normally they come in two to three weeks something to caution. Everybody about many many countries, including Nexico, and the Caribbean will require that you have six months of the liberty on your passport. So don't wait till the last minute by any stretch of the imagination. But right now, according to the State Department's things are running on schedule. We've talked about the TSA we've talked about passports. What about air traffic controllers has that been affected yet because that can really slow down planes on a tarmac? We haven't seen any of that yet. Some of them came back. We're we're actually mandated to come back. And so we're seeing that at smaller airports were really not having that much trouble. So at this point where keeping an eye on it for our customers. But it doesn't seem to be an issue at this point. We're live with FOX world travels, Rosengren WTMJ talking about the government shutdown it's impacts on travel. Are you noticing from your side of the business rose people that are saying, well, I'm not gonna go now because of this government shutdown? I just don't know what's going to happen in my passport may not be good enough. It may not be you know, I may not have that six month window, or whatever the case may be currently we're not seeing too much of that. Another piece of advice were getting people who typically travel for business and don't check bags is just bite the bullet and check the bay because that is gonna jam you up in the TSA lines as well. Now, you're taking on board big bag, and they're having to search it or whatever those people who have TSA pre check. There may not be enough. Staffed up to monitor those lines in those lines may be close so don't count on the pretext lines being open rose. I don't want to predict people's people's safety. But with all the things that are going on government wise and someone calls and asks about a trip is it something that we're comfortable saying. Yeah. Feel free to travel wherever you want. Well, I don't know about wherever you want. What we always say at factual travel to all of our customers is we certainly do monitor on a minute by minute basis, the State Department's website. So that we know where it is. And there's not face to travel like anything whenever you are planning a vacation. This is your fun time. This is your getaway time if you're going to have anxiety. We certainly don't call that fun. And we don't think that that's what your vacation should be all about. So sit down with a solar talk it through and wherever your comfortable, traveling to is what we want for you. What we want to help you? With FOX world travels rose grand WTMJ here again tomorrow morning, as well on the FOX world travel show rose. Thanks is always you're the best. My pleasure. Take care at seven twenty six WTMJ time. Now for news about your money. Sponsored by James James imaging systems, your local document imaging partner. Here's the namesake. "The afternoon folks will be talking with general manager Brian Goudie Kunst that'll be at three twenty today. I'm WTMJ Steve's can feed you got some stuff going on. Yeah. I was going to play a little bit of that. Matt leflore? I heard a part of it. We were getting ready for the show, but the energy of a new coach excited I work with Aaron Rodgers. I heard that part of it as a small town guy from this neck of the woods. So he's amid west kind of a cat. I was talking to Doug yesterday about this. I asked Doug if him and era writers are going to be buzzer. But four years apart, and he got doesn't really matter. They have to have to have a good working relationship, but the young coach phenomena, which is consuming the NFL. I think that's the way it's going, and maybe that makes some of these young players feel more comfortable, and maybe. Let's hope perform better well coaching is young man's game. Now, I mean gone are the days of bud grant on the sidelines. The Tom Landry with a suit and the fedora kind of cross field. The game has changed man. You know, jump on board because the trains left the station on that. And you hope that that injection of life and energy connects with younger players but Aaron Rodgers as far as his NFL career is concerned. He's not a young player. So I wanted to know how you how you reach a guy like that. That's gotta set is way. I think as we all get older, we all get a little bit more set in our ways. Stop looking at me. And. Garages. He's kind of he's got a set in his ways as an NFL player. It's going to be interesting. And and I always loved the enthusiasm of new coach. I think the fans love it as well. But as you said, and as every sports guy in the country is so you just don't know what's going to happen. There's there's players you have to assemble into this new mix, and they have talented Green Bay. Whether it's talent to get to the playoffs. That's the big question. I think they have the talent to get to the to the playoffs. They have to stay healthy. They were beset by injuries in a lot of areas. Most notably think on the well to areas that offensive secondary in the offensive line. And if you can build some depth in those two areas I like the Packers chances, but they've also you have to have a quarterback and head coach slash play caller. They gotta be on the same page. And clearly that was not the case last year. Call me optimistic and I'm an optimistic guy. That's my resolution for twenty nineteen be more positive be more often. But during the press conference, they did say the mail in the vehicle that was submerse was twenty nine year old Charles bear field and the young child was Melia Hernandez. They did say the investigation is ongoing in right at the end there. You heard the estimated speed of the vehicle was between eighty and one hundred miles an hour before it went in.
