"Think this was a really good wrestlemainia. And i'm not going to say it's bad for the simple fact that we caught it because i don't end to to. I don't think it was bad. Because in comparison to last year where it was wrestlemania that only got that almost got cancelled and the only reason we got it was because they were able to convince the state of florida to let them run their own damn building that they own i. It's it's a conundrum because there's so much to do in such a short period of time and then if you overload in one area you're you're your negatively compensating were in the other areas like if i trained too much then i'm going to hurt myself right but if i don't train enough then i'm not ready so you know i mean this is how is your how is your. Here's things like. Everybody wants to look good when they get into the ring as you get older suitable you know. I can't within four weeks. It's not possible so you just try to figure out how you can say face with either yourself or the i mean it's just it's a weird and we've we've talked about this before when you're doing it's like obviously you're when you're in there you wanna put on the best show possible not. It doesn't always go that way. It's still very taxing physically mentally but you wanna put on the best show for the fans possible that are watching but the training regimen has to be much different. I would imagine. Yeah you gotta look good. You wanna get big. You wanna get you wanna get cut. But i really like. How about flexibility bad. I just feel like just like all. Inside the Downfall of the XFL
"XFL was supposed to be the league that can finally make spring football work with financial backing from WWe's Vince McMahon in veteran leadership from commissioner Oliver Luck. The idea seemed promising. But just five weeks in Copen, nineteen forced the xfl hit pause, and then unlike other leaks. It announced it was shutting down for good. Today the inside story of why the xfl closed doors, and whether it could have been saved. I'M UNICOM'S IT's Tuesday June sixteenth. This is espn daily presented by marathon. Shaken. What's Shakin what she can not much some to you're talking to you Kevin Siefert writes about the NFL and the xfl for ESPN. So Kevin the last time you and I talked was to preview the xfl so excited about this new league time the rules and how funding would be, and whether it would work, and while sadly, we are gathered here today to autopsy the xfl the. League officially suspended their operations on April tenth season quote the uncertainty of the current environment, obviously referencing the corona virus pandemic. What was it like inside the League on that day? It was pretty wild. Actually talked to Kurt unsecure. WHO's the president of the Saint? Louis? Battle. Hawks and he heard some rumors he had wondered if the League would. Need to cut back in some way like many businesses, but he at most thought there might be some layoffs or potentially some furloughs, but when he woke up that morning. Like many other xfl employees he saw the. Direct deposit from. His pay. Was much larger than normal. Anyone who's ever worked in an office setting or a for a company of any kind knows that on your last day you get a paycheck for your salary, and also for any occasion time accumulated, and that's what that's. What happened here and that was really the first sign that he occurred hunziker or anybody. Really who worked for the xfl knew that not only were some changes about to happen, but. Some really ominous events were about the Kerr that day. And they found out. There was a going to be an all company conference. Call at about noon. And that's where they were informed that everyone who works for the League was terminated. Kevin Win all that down. The XFL was on hold like pretty much everything else right I mean the pandemic hit a sports world back in March when the NBA system. It's season. WWe Closes headquarters in Stamford Connecticut days later then on March. Twentieth six fell big flat out of their season, and said we look forward to playing full seasons for you, and with you in twenty twenty one, so it seemed like at the time the plan wasn't afford the league entirely, but just hit pause. Pick up when the pandemic was over. Why do you think they thought they could keep going back then? I think they they felt pretty good that in the five weeks at the season had managed to get through they had. Gone a long way. Towards proving the concept they had pulled in about twenty million league revenues, and they're projecting forty six million through the rest of the year. They're TV. Ratings had dipped, but they were about to go on a run of having most of their games, either on ABC or Fox and so, that would probably at least stabilized the ratings, and they thought that they would have for the first time since they had started building the league time to really sit down, pull apart their thoughts and come up with a better product, the following year Vince McMahon who the owner of the League he had pulled almost four hundred million dollars out of WWe stocks into his personal account to finance. Really for two or three years, and so they knew the money was there, he had put up about two hundred million, and was committed to paying another hundred and fifty million a year for a few years. Until they could potentially get the profitability, so there was. A lot of confidence that the money existed to continue subsidizing the League in that long term plan would not be sacrificed just because the season had to end more abruptly than they had hoped. I didn't know that so the xfl Vince McMahon rather was using wwe money to fund the XFL. Right away you know Vincent Man's the owner of w w well early state, the founder and the CEO, and so he had lots of stock, and so he used that stock eventually to fund the XFL. There was a division, a financial and business division, but you know there was also a shared services agreement between the two. Certainly the way they were able to recruit coaches and front office people and even the Commissioner Oliver luck the way they were able to convince people to come aboard was the show them the plan the financial plan that he had to spend money over the over those three years, there was public documents. That showed that the stock had been sold in that the money was now. In Vincent. Man's hands to fund the XFL and that's why they they felt so good about it. So the xfl like every other sport announces. Hey, we're going on pause. Then a couple of weeks pass. What was the state of play at the beginning of April? Really at the beginning of April the XFL was in off season mode. Oliver Lock. WHO's the commissioner had been asked to come up with twenty, twenty, one I jets. He had asked all the department has all the team presidents to come up with plans to market the teams throughout the long off season. That was to come. Everything was in the XFL. Offices were being directed towards this twenty twenty one season and a lot of times towards the twenty twenty two seasons well, they were looking ahead, saying okay, here's what we want to do in twenty twenty one. We WanNa make it better, and this is what we want and twenty twenty two, and then then we look to see if we can be profitable and this was all going on really. Really, in between the time, the xfl canceled season, and when it shuttered and had bankruptcy, and so those plans were all compiled, and I'll reluctant demand to Vince McMahon, and then they didn't hear anything. They didn't hear anything back, and they thought maybe it was because Wrestlemainia was going on. People had their attention there, but that was something that caused a little bit of unease as the second week of April arrived and that. They've been asked to create these budgets. And then there have been radio silence. So Oliver Overlook. Who was commissioner of the XFL also Andrew looks father for those who don't know and has been a sports executive for years used to NFL Europe who's an executive with the NCWA? He's going about his business. Assuming the league's going to come back putting together some plans, and then what happens. And then he gets a call or actually gets a letter on April ninth stating that he had been fired for cause and the letter came from. Vincent man and from the his attorney listing supposed. Infractions to his contract into his duties that Oliver Luck had apparently committed in his response, Oliver Luck in his legal papers, said he had never been told of any of these issues, but on April Ninth I, think about five o'clock is when Oliver Luck found out, he'd been fired. So what elect do? You know he is already in his home. In Indianapolis, the xfl offices were closed, and so he immediately got with his lawyer. Because when you get fired, because usually that can mean that the guarantee in your contract is no longer valid, and so he has sued for wrongful termination, not only disputing the reasons that Vince McMahon fired him which among other reasons, whereas the use of company cell phone for personal reasons which. Many people in the xfl on in the public to be an awfully little bit of a petty, and that's not even editorializing. It's just a fact. You know petty reason to fire sports commissioner WHO's making. Between five and seven million dollars a year, and so he not only is disputing the facts of what was in the latter, his termination letter, but also that the xfl never gave him the thirty days. That's required in his contract to correct any issues that ownership is having, and so that is currently playing out in court. We'll see who wins on that or whether there is some kind of negotiation that occurs, but at the moment Oliver Luck seeking twenty three point eight million dollars from Vince McMahon, who can fill the contract that he signed in two thousand, eighteen to be the commissioner of the xfl.

It's still playing. It's still doing. Its own thing. But there's nobody that Iraq to it and that was like the first couple of weeks of this and also they've been utilizing more space around the performance center lake attacks in the parking lot and stuff like that to try to make it feel more than just trying to recreate something inside of an empty room derailed. What was the original plan for the event the original plan was to hold wrestlemainia? Thirty six at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa and this was going to be a huge event for those who don't know it's not just simply wrestlemainia. Inside of a stadium. It is an entire city being overrun by. Wwe events you have the Access Fan Festival you have the WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony. Where wrestlers of old honored and put into a virtual hall of fame. Physical building doesn't exist quite yet and then also after Wrestlemainia the next day on Monday. It's tradition to hold Monday night raw in that same city so this isn't just simply one event on a on a on a Saturday night for The city of Tampa. It was a whole citywide sort of celebration for wrestling as of March. Third The W. E. and Tampa's mayor said there were no plans to postpone the event the W. E. said look the health safety of our fans and performance of our top priorities. But we remain committed to hosting Wrestlemainia at Raymond. James Stadium fast forward to March twelfth. Now you have Hillsborough County's commissioner less Miller saying he'll probably have to cancel wrestlemainia if the. Wwe doesn't make the decision itself because of the virus pandemic governor Rod Santa's that points that cities and counties should cancel mass gatherings over the next thirty days and so it was becoming a worse than worse. Look for W. E. to keep wrestlemainia scheduled framing Jamie Stadium on March sixteenth. They made the decision not to have upwards of sixty five seventy thousand people come to a stadium during a virus outbreak and instead moved into their performance center in Orlando. It's a two night event April fourth and April Fifth. How has wwe justified or explained their decision to go on with us? Well there's the public explanation and then there's the assumed explanation that the public explanation according to the WWe is that it is for the fans the fans are the lifeblood of the organization it is a panacea the fans to be able to hold this event. It is going to give them some comfort in a time of confusion and trouble. It's also going to be arrested for the performers themselves who you know are looking for some direction or looking for some focus in life during uncertain times. And that's sort of the the public explanation for this. If you know about the wrestling business you know that part of this is the fact that story lines that are going to have their big payoff. At wrestlemainia are a month long process. All the story lines all the action. They all run through. Vince McMahon they are on one track. And they're going to stay on that track through hell or high water. These are storylines narratives that the W has been planning to wrap up in culminate at Wrestlemainia happens every year and then they kind of moved to new stuff after that so from a function process to have wrestlemainia occur and wrap up which are the signature feuds and storylines of their season. If you will was a pretty important thing was there any blowback to all of this. Yeah I think there has been some in the rest in wrestling circles amongst wrestling reporters and and amongst the fans wondering okay. We are looking around the sports world. We're looking around the entertainment world. We're seeing literally every pro league every concert tour Disney on ice everything canceling out of concern about corona virus and yet professional wrestling roles on as a weekly television product so there is a bit of confusion. There're two why this continues while every other facet of sports entertainment seems to have stopped. What about amongst the wrestlers did any of them have reservations about participating in this one particular did so wrestler by the name of Roman reigns one of the bigger stars and WWe had a very highly publicized battle with leukemia? He left in October. Two thousand eighteen returned to WWE IN FEBRUARY. Two thousand nine thousand nine hundred and he's compromised so news started to break recently through some of the quote unquote dirt sheets in wrestling. The ones who report the rumor. Innuendo that Roman reigns was not going to be participating in his scheduled match against Goldberg for the Universal Championship at Wrestlemainia. Wwe basically said hey look. This is understandable situation. The health and safety of our performers paramount Sakiz. The biggest name that we know will not be participating but quite frankly until we see what events they air this weekend we won't know who else may have decided to pull out or had to be quarantined or any of that nature because they're being very clandestine about what the card will actually be the first wrestlemainia. That's taking place over multiple nights. It's also the first wrestlemainia that is going to be completely pretaped. So when did they take this weekend's event and what steps did they take to ensure the safety of the wrestlers in the people working on it? It's been a race against time for me. As I mentioned the performance center is in Orlando Florida Orlando Florida. Recently issued a stay at home order March twenty sixth that really closed out all the essential businesses. Just like we've seen all over the country so the WBZ has been racing. It's time to not only record wrestlemainia matches but also record. Future television matches programming as well as far as the safety of the wrestlers. It is a closed control facility. Stephanie McMahon the daughter of owner Vince McMahon who is the brand manager for WWe said to variety. Recently there's extensive testing screening. When you first come into the facility regardless of whether you're a talent crew member or anyone else if you have a temperature taken and you have a temperature over a hundred point four degrees you're automatically asked to leave also any wrestlers de out of the country or in contact anybody who's been out of the country you're not actually allowed to enter the facility. Either so they are taking some safety measures as far as trying to make sure anyone exhibiting symptoms isn't allowed in the facility or anyone who might have been exposed to corona virus through travel or relationships isn't allowed in the facility. Which is you know what you see from other companies as well but obviously there's no way to be sure without Virus testing whether anybody actually has the center of city so they tape this before the stay at home order. Does that mean this is going to be the last big event like this or is this something they're going to keep on doing? There is a lot of sort of mystery as to how these wrestling organizations are going to continue to keep on doing their thing. I'm not sure what the regulations mean for the performance in Orlando. I don't know if this is GonNa be it for their use facility or not. I can't tell you that. Eighty w their competition with also filming inside of an empty facility in Florida's well and there was news this week that they're gonNA be taking their show to some undisclosed to record matches going forward so I don't know if it's GonNa be a shell game where these companies have to start going to the few places around the country that don't have restrictions in place or what have you. But it's clear from both cases that even though they're putting a bunch of their product in the bag right now in our taping matches and episodes for future use on television. "We're back with the WWE thirty five years of Wrestlemainia book by our Good Buddy Brian Shield and the we got this from the wonderful people over decay publishing so thank you very much for sending this to us because well this is well worth the read and the flip through and just to absorb all the knowledge because this gorgeous book covers thirty five years of Wrestlemainia. You have some gorgeous pictures in here. You have some gorgeous stories in here and you have lots of take her. There's so much undertaker in this book. I'm so happy the build up history to twenty they wanna know and then it skips the Johnson versus per year for some reason yeah twenty one and then they just stopped right there there. Never nothing else happened and that's it. That's the end of it right there if nothing else happened if you really if you read the book th-. There may be more maybe that maybe more yeah yeah no kidding. There's plenty. There's plenty more but now they can still be in denial over many years mile for the rest of her life. This has a some nice awesome pictures throughout the Bo- you get some nice little rhinos about every single match backstories on all the matches and how they came together for every single Russell in so we can pick them random muscle. Maybe you can find out about let's say just flipped to Russell Twenty six you you can learn about cody. Rhodes anywhere in deviancy. The attendance figures get the handled entire card. It's pretty cool. You get look at. Some of the tickets. were put out for events different. Thanks for everything. It's a really cool book. I mean you can say this metal books. They are because they have some wonderful writers over there. That's pretty coal and you know it allows. Wb Feigns to re we live or in some cases discover the most exciting matches celebrity appearances and controversies in the Vince storied history the key matches of every wrestlemainia are explored in depth with spectacular full color photographs of unforgettable moments vital stats and quotes from WBZ superstars and you know get ready for the greatest spectacle in sports entertainment and that's it and as if that isn't enough ladies and gentlemen there's more now there's more oh my God there's more because as if a book about Wrestlemainia isn't great enough they happened to get a Ford from Mr Wrestlemainia himself the heartbreak kid Shawn Michaels. "Feels like a lot a new beginnings when you look at monday night raw. What was the newest beginning for you to me. It's sasha mbeki to me with sasha mbeki way way that played out and there's a lot of different layers to sasha and becky after what we saw last night i think sasha and becky the last night was done very very well. There people were invested. They were involved. They were a little little odd at times which toronto ten be especially with the way they treated natty. I was shocked to hear some of the response that there was but as far as physicality point of view from an intent point of view from a wow. This is where we're going to be going and we're excited from from my point of view. Sasha and becky got the job done and it was amazing. I sent out a tweet last night about sasha and and becky and the war has already begun. I don't know about you. Dave my social media was inundated with sasha and becky aki. Fans and man is split down the middle and man or they vocal and passionate about who they liked better. You know i'm glad you brought brought up that toronto crowd. We talked a lot about the crowd in toronto leading up the summer slam and how they're like a different type of crowd in toronto onta they could take over to show and we see that a lot of major cities but you don't know who they're going to boo and who they're going to cheer at summer slam. They seem to kind of follow their role. I it didn't feel like your typical. Toronto crowd completely different last night. Can you buy into the reaction that we heard in toronto when it came to sasha and becky last night yes absolutely and you know what even if i couldn't buy into the reaction on the television set i bought into the reaction the action myself. I'm not one of those guys that listens to the fans and reacts the way they do. I make my own decisions on what i seen seeing what i hear but there are a lot of people out there who will watch how the fans respond. They'll go in that direction. When i saw last night came off really well i mean i wasn't there a time. I don't know how far was back. Where where becky told natty that you you needed me yeah right. Did it becky lynn's til ninety nine hard. You need me now for your career yup well. I think that becky not needs sasha right. Now and last night was a great first step. Sasha hasn't been around a long time. I'm not quite sure why sasha hasn't hasn't been around in a long time. A lot of people on social media who are becky lynch fans seem to be burying sasha talking about how she went took her bat and her a ball and she went home and she's been bitching and moaning and crying. I don't get into all that stuff. All that i know is that she's been gone for a long time. She came back last night. She made an impact. Let me ask you this dave. Did you know from the minute. Yes i did how outage because the reason why is because of becky like when when you look at becky right now and what she went through this past weekend whitney talia i got she got more support into toronto than i thought she would get and then you heard that crowd last night and you know this from social media becky's loved loved whether it's blind love or complete support. We've been dealing with it for months and months it's there. It's hard core so when sasha was gonna come out i i i had a feeling that this was going to be the few that they would go with you. Mentioned it has she had that right opponents since you won those titles at wrestlemania thirty eighty five i think the answer is no. Sasha is the perfect person for becky right now for me. It was the mimic the music hit. I knew the turn was coming and it wasn't because of anything that you had to say what point of the promo was natty at when sasha's music a kit when she was talking about her father. She's talking about the one year anniversary about jim the anvil neidhart dying passing away and all all of a sudden. That's when sasha decides to look at the music guy and go hit my music. Wow if that doesn't have he'll written all over it. I don't know what does so. I saw this coming from a mile away but it didn't matter. I was still into it. I thought the execution was great. Man the physicality we can analyze is the physicality between the chair shots the smack in the face i would i would not be shocked if some words were exchanged backstage and if there had to be a legitimate pull apart between those women wants. This was all said and done last night well. Let's get into that because i think it's it's worth getting into because there's a lot of me to that bone of what you just said bully and you talked about the physicality outside the ring when the attack attack happened. I let's go with the chair shots. A lot of people have been posting gifts of the chair shots at sasha's given becky. One looks like really nailed her in the back of the head. What did you think of those chair shots from sasha last night. Let's forget about what i thought i. What did you think i because you're the fan as is the fan. What did you think of those cheshire. I gotta be honest. I liked it. I it was hard hitting. It was physical. I didn't really notice about like now. You're looking at it up close and her getting nailed in the back of the head. There was some there was some real hatred behind. Those chair shots bully you know this. The chair has become a prop that you see almost all the time in the w._w._e. Correct yes saucy use as a tool that really told the story and had some angst so when i saw it last night i love what sasha dead. I think the angstrom there. I think the animosity was there. I i thought she used the chair appropriately. What we've seen so many other people use the chair but last night there was just something about that look on sasha's arches face that made those chair shots mean even more things got a little wonky because of positioning and the first two chair shots that sasha hit becky wit were clean and they were good. The third one was just okay okay because if you noticed by the third one sasha is now standing in front of becky and she's at the top of becky's head. You never wanna swing winging that angle. It's a really really bad angle and you're not able to properly swing that chair your most effective manner and then the fourth one came down and cry now <laughter>. It's cracked becky in the back of the head. Now it didn't full on cracker in the back of the head but the bottom of the chair kind of like where your thighs would rest on a chair. The chair was opening. You were sitting down that part. Hearted chair hit becky in the back of the head and that's when you see becky grab for the back of the head now. She didn't get caught with a lip. She got court with a smooth bottom. That's why we did not see her. Get busted open and then if you notice the minute she gets hit in the back of the head she she grabs the back of the head and she instinctually turns over to her side and goes into the fetal position. That's one of the body's defense mechanisms resumes the minute you feel like you're getting your ass kicked too hard you cover up and you go fetal in the animal kingdom. A lot of animals do that also as mammals we do that. You want to cover up. She goes into the fus fetal position but sasha wax her again in the arm and let me tell you from firsthand experience. When you get a hit in the arm in the shoulder it flat out sucks because you got a bone at the top of your shoulder that kind of sticks out and man when that metal comes comes slamming down into that bone it hurts and then you see becky flop right back over the good of the physicality was awesome. The intent the passion the thanks the anger the look on sasha's face told so much of a story like basically she was saying bitch. I'm coming back act takeover. Because i know superior wrestler. The negative was it could have been a little safer hope they go back and realize is that and make sure that they're great. Physicality is as safe as it can be now you mentioned like the chair shots and then that slap to the face and almost felt like like becky. Aki was kinda. Retaliating with the kicks you know do you get into that mode as as a competitor and as an athlete or just as a performer where yeah i that's. That's an instinct like right away. You get you get stung in the face. You're going to kind of come back with like a she gave up. I gave the push and then the kick. I mean is that retaliation. There is that instinct like what happened there with becky lynch i love the smack to the face and it made me chuckle because whenever whenever i would wrestle tommy dreamer it would always take him a while to get going in the match he would always be a bit lethargic when the bell rang and i would normally back them up to the corner and smack him as hard as i could in the face and that would wake him up and then he would just start throwing haymakers last night when i saw asada smack becky in the face i knew damn well that they were going outside of the box if i had the better dollar nobody. Nobody knew that that that was coming. Sasha didn't think to herself backstage. I'm gonna do this and not tell becky and i'm sure becky didn't know it was coming that smack woke becky up and then she says where's your balls at when you shaw becky kick back that was an instinctual she will kick that was getting my ass kicked and i have to defend myself and that little moment in time right there made made things very very real when sasha walks away. If you look at the smile on her face you saw a woman out out to prove something. You're only going to get one shot at this right there. Yep sasha's only gonna get one shot at returning and making an impact act and catching the lightning in a bottle so you can't go out there and sugarcoat anything you gotta go balls to the wall if anything goes wrong if deal with it backstage but it's all about catching that lightning in a bottle so i ask you did. They catch lightning last night. Yes they absolutely did. I said this to alex before the show like that. I i take it for that like <hes> you you you name the price i wanna see that because we've talked about becky and we talked about becky loyal fans that she has and what has she done and as she'd been booked and you know how it got watered down as we got closer to wrestlemainia thirty thirty five if you're putting her in the ring with sasha banks all that stuff gets completely thrown out the window just like last night how sasha i guess got got caught in the moment when she came out there us as fans yes. That's lightning in the bottle for us bully because i think this is the opponent that we've wanted to see becky go against all and why is this the perfect opponent for becky. Do you know why well bully you. Always say about getting in the ring with somebody. That's gonna rise to that next level. You always talk about you know. Hey you got you. That person that step above <hes> sasha is a better wrestler than becky becky is a is an over performer and at the top of the food chain right now becky can benefit from working with sasha because in being a better wrestler it gives becky an opportunity be to work up to the next level. "WWE is going to make a little history with wrestlemainia this go around at outta MetLife. Big. It's a big deal. It's a huge deal for the first time ever. It's an all woman main event, it's a three way match, you know, with Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey, whose champion were raw women's champions around the rousing shallow flair and Becky Lynch does the freeway match. It would be the main event. Some would call it the final match while from us. Call the main event Seles match. Yeah. So. You know, some folks thought maybe Brock listener. And Seth Rollins will be the main event, it's not universal title. This is for the raw women's championship. And you know. It says a huge deal. This is great not just for the business. It's just for the restaurant business, but it's great for women's wrestling because women's wrestling over the past several years has come such a long way, not just from WWE other companies to and the women aren't just looked at as as it used to be years ago. When it just I candy, he's a legitimate athletes. These are legitimate performance legitimate WB superstars, and these three ladies Shala flare rows and Becky alleged. They're gonna tear it down. It's going to be great. It's going to be great. And to do it at MetLife. Another just we're wrestlemanias. Always at these big big stadiums. Just like the SuperBowl, isn't pack them. Okay. And do you think that whatever happened today win or lose could have any effect either way? Well, I think that makes a lot of sense excuse me, especially because you're talking about a guy who can probably get millions of dollars on a pretty limited. Wrestling scheduled Cadillac around. But if you get to that point where you're done loving, the crap that you have to deal with and there are avenues for you to go. It makes it such an easier decision in move for you to go. Well, the last impression he's gonna get from us is this game. Is there pressure on him to recreate the magic from two weeks ago? I think there's a ton of pressure on him to do that. And I think the problem is announcers like him who get this early praise. How many of them go down as being folks? And a lot of people don't like, you know, it's unfortunate because you start out liking guys like Tony Romo. He deserves all of this praise, but because you expect now people expect him to be some profit every game the minute. He shows any sort of flora weakness people are gonna jump onto that and start to criticize him. But I think he's facing more pressure than any announcer at a Super Bowl or any analysts had a Super Bowl that I can remember because people think he's like something we haven't seen before. And now he's going to have to deal with that pressure. Incomes care like most of the time. I'll be honest with you, Dan. I don't even know who the announcers are until I realized what network game is on. But with Romo I mean, there are prop bets on how many he's gonna call. Like, this is he is not the biggest story the game is. But you know, he's the second third or fourth. Biggest story. I think a big part of it too is like people are having a ton of fun listening to him. Torino because not only is he very good at what he does in. I've said this as a broadcaster networks you better have quarterbacks on there. Because you you've gotta be able to get people to understand the game different levels that communicated to all kinds of people. But it's the fact of he continuously telling educating people on the wise in house put it's fun. Like, you're having fun. Like John Madden was the last announcer. Who seemed like he was having as much fun as Romo, and it's it's okay. For him to talk over Jim Nance for a second. Because if you were sitting at a bar with your friends are in the living room having a beer with your friends. You talk over your buddy here in this moment. So it's not like this. "Hello time. and welcome to the covert podcast. Today we'll be talking about focusing on the things we have in common then wrestling podcast. I know you will love. Lastly, we'll take a look at a comic book that takes a dark twist on the biblical flood. So let's get started. From two thousand ten to twenty thirteen. I went to San Diego Comecon for those who no, I is the biggest con in America and maybe even in the world, I'm not exactly sure. However, it has an incredible amount of people that attend over one hundred and twenty five thousand people come to the con- and the all have the same passion for all things nerdy for one person. It might be the passion for superman for another. It might be an obsession with the twilight movies. Many of these people would sit for days in line to tend to panel for their favorite TV show or movie. The camaraderie was thick, and that's the case with most cons. We all have a commonality about what we nerd out about. Do I agree with all of them on social issues like abortion, no. Do I agree with them on political issues like Republican versus democrat? No, I agree with them on getting together and earning out about the lake. Marvel story arc, yeah, for some of them I do. So instead of name calling and insulting each other about the things we disagree on, why not focus on what we do agree on, find common ground and invest time in that, and you might be shocked at the other things you will find you do agree on. This allows both parties to listen to each other before the walls come up because now we're comfortable with each other on the things we have in common, and we like to nerd out about in today's era of polarization we seem to spend more time focusing on things we disagree on might just be one little thing instead of the things we have in common so much so that we won't even spend holidays like thanksgiving together because of those things we disagree about over at not your pastors podcast. They were talking about Christians being divisive about their political views so much so that members witness OSI it with with each other. Now you would think out of all the people Christians could unite regardless of political views. I'm sure I interact with many people who don't have the same worldview as I do not just at cons. I'm sure you do too. It doesn't matter because as long as we try to stay focused on the one or two things we have in common, whether it's fishing or baseball, or coin collecting football or podcasting, whatever it is focused on those things and spend time together doing those things that you have in common and the things you disagree on. Won't matter as much. Talk about the things you have in common. Tell stories about the things you have in common expound on what you have in common and nerd it up. Make your commonalities bigger than your differences. All the sudden you're differences. Don't seem so big compared to the size of the things that you have in common the impact you can have on other people. When you have a common focus can be huge. Use the nerdy things you like to unite instead of divide each other. For example. Maybe as a kid, you collected masters of the universe figures. Talk about that. Talk about the figures you had. Maybe the other person likes the same figures you had when you were a kid, maybe they had some of the same excess review did like castle gray scholar, snake mountain, or maybe they did different things to modify their figures that you might think are cool or maybe you did the modifications, whatever it is, talk about those things and tell about when I got this figure for Christmas, I was so excited or I got this figure at a clearance sale at stores and picked it up for only two dollars. Talk about those stories together. You'd be surprised at how well you can mash in connect with the person when you have that commonality so that when the differences come up, maybe it won't be so divisive because you'll be focusing on some of the things that you have in common with that person. Now, on a similar note, I read recently about people using dungeons and dragons to help kids with autism and social anxiety. People living with autism spectrum disorder, experienced challenges with communication. So social action, and sometimes they display restrictive and re repetitive behavior. Organizations like game to grow us tabletop role playing games to help teens, adolescence and emerging adults become more confident, creative and socially capable. The inherent benefits of tabletop role playing games are numerous and become even more beneficial. If intentionally facilitated by professional the games, encourage communication and team building in the fun safe environment. Now, Dr. Raphael Baca moslo I probably mispronounced the name. So I'm sorry in advance. The clinical director of take this uses DVD to help teens who are struggling to daft solid social skills. They learned those tough to teach aspects of socializing, like procreate communication, forming friendships, empathy, and other social nuances. As you can see unity in something like tabletop gaming, like dean D. Is being used to help those people in difficult places. In this situation, it helps others relax open up about what they're struggling with in the process. They inadvertently learn new skills on clued links to the game to grow organization and the take this group in the show notes. It's hosted by Bruce pressured, also known as brother love in the WWF back in the late eighties, early nineties and superfan Conrad Thompson. As I mentioned, I was a big WWF fan from about eighty seven to ninety three. It's great podcasts because you can revisit those old storylines if that's the timeframe you liked. Now, I should preface Bruce Richard was involved from, I believe, eighty seven. So after wrestlemainia three and was off and on with WWF until I think two thousand three or two thousand four. So he covers a pretty big, broad span, broad span of time. Not just the time I'm talking about. So if you watched wrestling from the late eighties to early two, thousands, he has some firsthand accounts of what was going on. On behind the scenes and he's a fantastic storyteller. His impersonations of Vince McMahon are priceless. That's almost worth listening to the podcast alone to hear him to his impersonation of inst- McMahon, the popularity of this podcast skyrocketed so much. They have hundreds of thousands of downloads per episode. I highly recommend it for any race wrestling fan. They highlight wrestlers. They highlight some of the paper views the highlight some frames, so it's great. Just go check it out. They have a big archive that you can go back to. Sometimes they'll just fire up an old survivor series from say, nineteen Ninety-seven just watch it together and you can hear their commentary as they're watching the event. I wanted to mention a comic book that just read literally a few days ago called dark arc. It's by aftershocks comics. It is an excellent. Book and I'll just read the solicit here and you can hear exactly what it's about. The wickedness of mankind has moved the creator to destroy the world by way of the flood. Callin does a good job of keeping the story moving along at a good pace. However, he threw. Goes out a few bread crumbs of possible ways. He might take the story in later issues just enough to keep you reading and wondering what is going to happen happen next at issue five, the rain stops. Now I assume this would be a limited series run at first thinking about it. When I mean is you're probably not going to see this, go to issue three hundred, four hundred like some other titles do I could be wrong. They could go ahead and take the story after the land or excuse me after the water subsides and they can get back out on land and maybe show the interaction with the unnatural creatures with the humans on this new world that they came upon after the flood.
