"Knew the city was under threat from bin Laden. No doubt about that. And we had done exercises and plans for how to deal with it, and even the differences between his people and the people we normally dealt with, which Islamic extremists in New Jersey who had brought about the first World Trade Center attack. And then when the second impact occurred where were you and what was the second impact occurred, I was less than a mile away, less than a minute away. I had just been on the phone with I just felt I was holding my deputy mayor Joe voter. Who told me how bad how bad it was and I told him and with the police commissioner and I told him when I got there, I wanted us to have secured a building where we had a hard launch. Telephone lines because the cell phones were erratic. Some were working, some weren't working. I said, Bernie, we got to get hard lines. Just grab a building and let's set up a right there. And with Joe, I said. We got to get the get Rudy Washington, and make sure Rudy's there because we got to get the transportation laws open right away. Because I realized it was going to be an incredible amount of equipment going in and out of there. And that could block the ambulances. And Rudy was an expert on transportation. And there were a lot of other conversations, but I can't remember. And I said, has anybody been able to get through to The White House and the answer was no, I said, well, I've tried three times, and I haven't gone through. Do we have air cover? We've already been hit by two planes. It could have been three. Four. Could have been 8. And they said, no, we haven't been able to. Shifted about that time. I hung up the phone. I heard a tremendous explosion, we look up, this is tremendous explosion in the sky. Jenny and I and the police were not sure whether it was a secondary explosion from the first one. Or a new something that looked more like a new something and almost as we're thinking that Bernie Carrick called and said, boss, it's a second plane. This is a terrorist attack.

Through his tenure he served at three firehouses, eventually being assigned to engine tene Manhattan in June of 2001. On September 11th, 2001, firefighter Olsen was on duty in one of the first response to the World Trade Center attacks. He selflessly gave his life that day, doing what he loved. He is survived by his wife, Denise, and three children Vincent Tory rose and nella. You know, this dedication is very special as firefighter Wilson's widow, Denise, is a close friend of ours. It means so much to be able to dedicate this episode to Jeff, especially on the 20th anniversary of his death and the attacks that change our country forever. "So joe biden spent his time in pennsylvania. Pretty much Trying to defend his afghan policy. I there's a time for that. But i didn't think it was yesterday a saturday or yesterday the day after the commemoration but biden knows he really looks bad and a lot of people have lost confidence in him as credibility is way down so he's obsessed with trying to justify afghanistan even twenty years later. Now if you were an aggressive reporter you would have said to the president alright but you could have done this differently and protected. The countries of afghanistan in the united states in a better way by leaving behind a residual force that wouldn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars put would provide protection against the rise of isis and kite in afghanistan. Now there's no protection for that so you know now that might that question might be way beyond joe biden's capacity to answer. I believe it. It probably is and then you might also ask him about the taliban raising its flag in kabul on september eleventh. I mean if this is an in your face to the american people. There's no such thing so they're the taliban is taunting us taunting. The united states didn't have to raise flag in kabul on september eleventh. But it because it doesn't fear us no one does no one in the world fears. Joe biden weakness leads to bad things. George w bush now. He is much more in tune to the tara threat because he was the president when we were attacked. Two thousand one so he has said publicly but not loudly one interview with an obscure publication that the way joe biden got out of afghanistan was not good bush. The younger is on record as saying that he disagreed with it. He gave a speech in pennsylvania on saturday and said this many americans struggled to understand. Why an enemy would hate us with such zeal. The security measures incorporated into our lives are both sources of comfort and reminders of vulnerability and we have seen growing evidence that the dangerous to our country can come not only across borders but from violence said gathers within there's little cultural overlap between violent extremists abroad and violent extremists at home. Okay that's true. There's no difference in the world trade center attack than the oklahoma city attack by an american mcveigh difference. The intent was to kill civilians to send a message in both the world trade center and the pentagon tax and the oklahoma city. So in that regard george w bush. It's correct but he conflates the ongoing jihadist thread with a. I don't know whether it's growing but it's small far-right threat in america. It's infantilism we don't have headlines every day about far right extremists committing violence in america. They don't exist but they do exist all over the world as isis every single day and al qaeda jihadist co people massacre people civilians. So the conflating of a far-right threat. That small at this point and it is with a massive jihadist. Thread is not in my opinion intellectually. Honest now i put in a call to president bush. I know him pretty well. I hope you'll come on and discuss it with me. I doubt he will. It's a shame because that needs to be discussed now. Presidents obama and clinton didn't make any public comments which i found not strange but unusual about that donald trump. Now he did not go because he wouldn't be welcomed in the new york city formal formal presentation because new york city is run by radical leftist and bush knows he wouldn't be giuliani was shunned by the de blasio administration. Giuliani's a hero at nine eleven. Maybe shun so donald trump instead went to police agencies and fire agencies in new york city and at one of the police events he said this.

"Just passed in texas which may provide a precedent for similar legislation in other parts of the country We're going to also explore this a temple. We're also just a few days away from the anniversary of the world trade center attack and the pentagon attack on september eleventh two thousand and one in fact so many things are happening that there are literally countries being overthrown. As you hear this no not afghanistan. There are countries being overthrown. And they're not quite making the nukes. That's the reality in which we live today so maybe we start in the us and we traveled to texas. A lot of people would initially asked what does the tanic temple have to do with the lone star state. What i am glad. All of those people ask that question. Because i i have an answer The satanic temple was recently recognized as a religion By the states government so it does have tax exempt status and along with that like other religions there are certain dispensations that go along with being recognized formerly in this way. Where maybe some things that are maybe a legal. You know For one group isn't necessarily illegal for another If it is to be part of a religious ceremony For example there are certain. First nations rights that involve taking psychedelics. And because this is recognized as being part of their religion and their freedom of religion it is not illegal when done under the supervision of shame like in these certain kinds of scenarios similarly the satanic temple which by the way does not practice devil worship. It uses much like the church of satan founded by anton levay the symbol of satan lucifer as one of protests one of putting personal liberties and freedoms above all else essentially not ds tick not at all one hundred percents And just prefer a little quick background. on what their principles are. It's very straightforward. They hold seven fundamental tenants that they live by and the first one is one should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with the reason to the struggle for justices and ongoing unnecessary pursued should prevail over laws and institutions three. And this is very keen to today's conversation. One's body is in viable subject to one's own will alone for the freedoms of others should be respected including the freedom to offend to willfully and unjustly encroached upon the freedoms of another is to forego one's own five beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world one should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's belief. Six are fallible. If one makes a mistake one should do one's best director fai and resolve any harm. That might have been caused and seven. Every tenant is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility action thought the spirit of compassion wisdom and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word. These all sound great to me. I see no fault. I see nothing wrong with any of these I'm not joking borderline considering looking into becoming a member of the satanic temple Because they they they're always doing kind of sort of pokey things to institutions as you could probably guess from those tenants. They actually had a statue of bath. Mat erected on the arkansas capital on the property of the arkansas state capital with two children of quizzically gazing up into his face. And he's holding up two fingers sort of like a similar to figures up fingers similar to what you would see images of christ and the apostles and this was in response to the ten commandments. Being installed there in two thousand seventeen so they're constantly trying to call people on their you know bolt and Acting as a force for social justice and change and that is that what they're doing today This bill that was just passed this law that was passed in texas outlaws essentially abortions abortion drugs abortion procedures Any any kind of abortion past six weeks and that is at the phase where you can just take a pill and be done with his medications and not to mention They're actually kind of taking a sort of snitch on your neighbor approach where there's literally a website that has been the recipient of some pretty amazing internet. Trolling but as a website. Now of course it was because it was probably just getting absolutely blown up with with a bad information or like you know. Copy pastas of the b movie scripts or like. I think i read. One person was spamming it with shrek. Porn yeah. It was the site designed to rat on anyone that you know to be providing anything assistance or something as simple as just advice right and there's even something along the lines of like you could sue an uber driver for taking someone to get an abortion procedure. Even if they had no idea what they were doing. And there's like a bounty on. It was like a ten thousand dollar bounty essentially for each successful report or something along those lines the witch hunt. It's an absolute witch hunts and bene- believe you were saying off the air. There's another state with looking to adopt a very similar structured law. The satanic temple is getting a lot of press. Because you know the s. word right even though as you outlined it is it could primarily be described as a non theistic. Human rights. Work ization basically it's activism and. I think the tendency read are things that most people can reasonably agree with the danger of laws like these You described the the profit motive there which is inherently corrupt The profound philosophical problems inherent in that kind of law and one of the equally terrifying problems on the horizon is that this law is meant to be a framework. It is meant to set a precedent. Missouri is considering a law like this and others will follow if you wanna read the full text of law. It is t. x. s. b. eight street name the quote unquote heartbeat bill. You know we strive to be objective and to bring you the facts of matter in our conversations and explorations together I i cannot be objective about this. No matter is this is abort is it is an unclean thing to do to innocent people in his disenfranchisement and it is frankly hypocritical if you look at what texas does with four or two children. After they're born one not to mention the this is also a big part of the country where people are making the argument. That you can't force me to wear a mask right. You can't forced me to wear a mask for the benefit of others. You know like the who may be are uncomfortable or are concerned about getting the virus you know spreading the virus to me imposing a law that doesn't allow people to exercise their own control over their own bodies is counter to what that sentiment is saying. They're saying my body. You shouldn't be able to force me to put something on my body to put a vaccine in my body. If i don't want to. But yet i will tell you as a woman you cannot put this in your body Because of jesus again i'm sorry. I have a hard time not being well where the actual goals then why not. All biologically male residents of texas.

This girl I've never met in person responded. My name's Anna and I'm from Phoenix. Arizona. Can you tell me quick like how you met me over a blogging site called Tumbler. Anna told him about one time when Tumbler crashed. Which it does a lot when it came back up. People were posting pictures of the twin towers saying, Oh tumbler crashed and they're saying like it's the same thing when it's Nowhere near it. It's awful. They were comparing the deaths almost 3000 people to a website crashing for a couple of days. Maybe I take the World Trade Center attacks more seriously because we talk about that kind of stuff in my family. Don't eat with your fingers like one night at dinner. There's a difference between hearing. About 1000 people died and actually seeing images of people jumping to their deaths because they have no hope of survival. "N e t dot com Now more of a Steve Skiff et show on WTMJ continue to get some great texts and remembering at 9 11 from all of you, which I think it's important that connects us and I think it's one of the things that we try to do on the show. Rather than divide Mitch from Sturgeon Bay on 9 11. I was in Sarasota watching a local feet of President Bush reading the kids at Booker Elementary famous scene now. In the other room. The TV was on ABC, starting to cover the World Trade Center attack. I started switching back and forth, they'll never get the president's face when he got the words Well, we got the word later when I stepped outside and watch Air Force one overhead and realize that the only playing the air other than fighter pilot fighters, I'll never forget this personal connection. Yeah, I think I saw therefore, Swon. I don't know when. When air travel resume like Week or two later, when I started flying again, probably more closer to two weeks or three weeks. I saw there force wanted an airport somewhere and thought, Boy just the immense Significance of that plane as we're dealing with this terror attack, um from the 414. Heard about the first plane hitting It was an accident one second and I knew we were being attacked. And I called command post of the 4 42 sales ready for whatever was needed. Yeah, that that That attitude of how can I help need more of that need more people with that attitude? Um, let's see two thoughts of 9 11 from the 41 for the absolute silence of traffic, No honking no loud engines. And that French newspaper in Paris said on 9 12 today We are all America. Yeah. International Coming together as well. We are all one. We are one that that phrase emerging from events like that. Um, from the 262 is the first one. It was the first time I felt vulnerable living in this country Sad beyond belief for those injured killed and their friends and family empty, lost. And confused Dan from white for spare. So, Steve hindsight, was it all worth it? Afghanistan war getting Osama bin Laden spending one Chilean losing American soldiers lives. Was it all worth it? I would say in some ways, yes, in some ways, no. We have not had an attack on our soil in 20 years. Is that worth it? Do you want to relive that tragedy? When Saddam Saddam a stain Hussein and Osama bin Laden are no longer walking this earth. Is that worth it? It's a difficult question. But again Wars happen because they have to happen, right? For the most part, we have to defend. Individuals. We defend countries, we have to defend rights. And freedoms. That's why they happen. We would we prefer they don't they didn't absolutely. Sign me up, but that's not the reality of world we live in. People want to kill us. Therefore there will be conflict. Um, 414. I worked in a taller building downtown Milwaukee on 9 11. We were also home shortly after the second plane hit was a somber day. What? What struck me to the core was the next time the air show was in town. I didn't know was a flyover trial run day when I saw a shadow and sound of a plane flying low around downtown Milwaukee. My heart and stomach just dropped. Yeah, I can imagine. I'll share another story. When we did get back to flying, and I was something the flu every week around the country. And I could sense that people were edgy on the plane. I don't remember the trip was this is a long time ago. But anybody that was Acting. The fool was quickly shut down by other passengers. You know, people like to be loud and abrasive. That wasn't gonna happen. The mood was not Open to that kind of a joviality at that time, and for a while flying on a domestic Airline was rather somber and probably rightly so. In the 414 is a bit of a longer one. So, um, I'll do the best I can. I was a truck driver.

The G 20 members make up 80% of world GDP, 75% of global trade and 60% of the world's population.
