I think if you're a player You know, the Hall of Fame means something, but I think if you're an announcer I, you know, it's very It's very tough to tell you there's there's really super super great announcers like a Vin Scully. Bob Miller. Of course, Chick Hearn. You know, play by play, guys, And then there's like everybody else, and I don't know. Maybe. You know, some guys deserve it more than other guys. I don't know. But in football, you can really tell who deserves it because the stats are right there in front of you, but in play by play, it's just like I think it's just the guy that everybody likes it. Just toss him in the mail. Too cynical for this game. Live on K if I'm sick 40 more now, with Danny Mac's Thief.

Couple batters too many for him. And the mets then win it with a run the top of the ninth and Diaz close it out in the bottom of the ninth. Right. "Hey, guys. Thanks for taking the call, You know, right now, the playoffs started today. We have the Indians. They give us a lot of trouble. Okay? I mean, they've got a veteran ball club. They've got salad pitching. They come up with hits when they need it. Howard, the Cubs Howard that what kind of mood or the twins going to be? And now when they go over to Wrigley and start your series with the Cubs tomorrow? That's what the Cubs have to worry about. Now. You know, I mean, Minnesota is going to be in the playoffs. They still have a shot at the division. They lost three out of four tow US. But you know what kind of move was kind of? You know what kind of swagger they gonna have going into Wrigley now knowing that If they lose this weekend series, and we are Yeah. And we come out this weekend and get the job done. You know where that much closer to the division? No, This must win theories against the Cubs. Now for the twist coming up, So the big theories? Yeah. Look, you get that home field advantage for the first three games where you play all the games. At home, and then it's then then it's like you don't get the benefits that you used to get in a non pandemic year where you would get to host every Siri's for three out of five or four out of seven. But again, I'm not putting any sort of ceiling on this year with baseball. You know what of the one thing about this this postseason? This will be the toughest postseason TTO win because home field advantage is not what it used to be, and I believe there's an extra Yeah, This is the most games you've ever had to win to win a World series, isn't it? I would think so, Yes, because you're replacing the wild card round, which a lot of people would get with a buy anyway. With a three game, Siri's You want to take Matt's call here before we go to break guys? Sure, Madison legs are OK, Listen, I love the spirit. I love the enthusiasm. Sylvian Watto. This is a joyous moment in Chicago for socks stands for sports fans. I've given given what's going on giving the United States All the bad news we read out there. It's just kind of smile on my face The Washington team all year and I mean, they really probably out of joy to me. And to you as ESPN. We're gonna have baseball in October. Yeah, It's pretty cool. Crazy. It's pretty pretty cool. And I think the city is what ist it. This city needs. We need the Southside in the north side to cheer on their teams. And the back remind. Everybody is hoping the figures we have a cup Sox World series, but those long odds we all know it. But its joints and I'm glad to hear the enthusiasm coming through because I'm smiling from ear to ear, A beautiful day, and the socks were in playoffs. Yeah, it's a fun team to watch. You know what I mean? Like it's one thing to be damn good. It's another thing to be damn good and damn entertaining as well there, there's not even a Cubs fan could say that this team is in fund watch Anybody who's watched this white sacks team do what they've done this year. Giolito throwing a no hitter. The Sox going from Hase some expectations to now having the spot in the division with a three game lead Tim Anderson again at the top of the list baseball in terms of an average It's crazy. 3323776 socks have clinched a spot. In the playoffs. That's for certain they could win the division both teams as the caller mentioned first place Baseball City U S. A. I got another con for Yura went through some teams in Chicago sports history. We always go baseball baseball. I've got another Chicago team. From years ago. That reminds me of the Sox team, and I want to hear from you regarding the white sacks of the Bears. Whatever you sign your mind, 3323776, you're listeningto.

Yu Darvish, Cubs became perfect fit over time

"Now I wanted to ask you about this in it's a harder question to. Answer Two thousand twenty because we're it's not like we're in club houses and we can watch the body language and see players and how they interact with each other i. know in that first year that there were people in the cubs organization who felt like that darvish just wasn't comfortable with the group and it didn't have any do I. Personally I don't think with the other players on the team, but just he maybe was just the pressure of the contract where it felt like he was more of an outsider, not completely within the team realm what what are you seeing? What are you hearing more? So about that now? Get Away, I can relate it from my world reporting world. Is that first year it even though he speaks fine English, he used a translator all year with the media. Now he didn't use it with his teammates but. I think that was is an example of how things change in the second year last year he spoke English, his personality came out he he he got he got to know reporters like myself a lot better and then this year in Spring Training Boston he was like the class clown he was having a great time with us until things shutdown ironically or I guess that's the right word coming back from the pandemic only being able to zoom interviews he's been different. He's been back to being kinda quiet and back he's used a translator at times in the zoom interview so the other thing. Is. He's having so much success. You know how guys are in the middle of a great run they don't WanNa really talk about themselves so much, and that's all we're asking is about him. So things have gone a little quiet this year, but there's good reasons behind it but from year one year too when you're two to three, he changed big time and you might be right. It might be the contract I think coming off what happened in world series in seventeen with the dodgers really affected him as well big time, and then he comes to the cubs in eighteen huge contract big market. Diehard of bands everywhere expecting the world and you know he was also injured as it turns out so that first year was a mess and then slowly but surely he came out of his show that these interviews in English teammates got the no one better 'cause even in even in eighteen. Teammates I saw with Rizzo hanging out on the road and stuff like he was still tight with teammates but not the saint he wasn't outgoing now he's outgoing and that really is true personality. So it Kinda mimics what he's done the mount he's become self again on the mound as well as in the dugout in the clubhouse and with the media.

"Jacob. degrom the mets we all know Jacob degrom, but he was crash from his start on Friday. With a against the phillies with some next stiffness, he'll start his planning on starting against the marlins Miami and you know. I'm surprised actually pitching to be completely honest because. The season is pretty much I. Mean I guess that he would be. He would basically just be doing it so he could get paid at this point, but I mean he would get his prorated salary regardless if he was playing or not at the mets are nine and fourteen therefore games out of the. Four Games out of the East lead they've already lost one two of their best players with marcus, stroman and Noah syndergaard. Know. Why he would even play. It doesn't look like the mets are really going to be doing anything in the division. So. I mean. A. Whole I'll just come back through another game and then and then pretty much just opt out of the season if I were him but. You know he's he's out there playing and he's doing a great job this season and you know you gotta come you got you give him his props for endlessly fighting for the New York mets even then they haven't. You know they've been trying to hold onto whatever relevancy they've had since the I think it was Twenty Sixteen World Series, Twenty Fifteen, twenty, six world series when they lost to the Kansas city royals but alongside him another one in another player from the Bronx went down this weekend. Not a good sign for the New York Yankees but I mean they're they brought up Miguel and do hard their defense is going to go down but their offense will stay. Will stay you know. Fairly even Keel for the most part I would say they would go down a little bit because Dj here's a four hundred hater and Miguel Angel Harz in anything like that. But I think M Miguel and do Haro. You'll love the at a little bit more power to the lineup. And? They'll lose a little bit of the base but I mean they're they're crews in right now. "Do you think about the dodgers roster? They already have the reigning Mvp with cody. Bellinger they also have the former. Mvp AND CY young winner with Clayton Kershaw. So how all of these. Big noted players sort of fit together on one roster. They fit together like a lovely twenty six piece puzzle. And and that's the beauty of what the dodgers have done. They have constructed a roster. That really doesn't have. I'm not gonNA say any but doesn't have clearly visible flaws in that particularly goes for the everyday lineup. I mean you can put any number of players that any number of positions you can cody bellinger and Centerfield. One day playing first base. The next day. Compla- Max Muncie at first base and we can shift them over to second where. Oh by the way Gavin Lux whose top-five prospect and all baseball is GONNA play as well but if he's not there and if there's a left on the mound you can put key Gate Hernandez in their second base and he absolutely destroys lefthanded pitching. He also can play left field. Maybe a little bit of Centerfield but you've got AJ pollock and left field to you. Know if there's a right hander. Anyone Output Jack Petersen in there he crushes right handed pitching in. You've got cory seager. Shortstop Justin Turner Third. Will Smith is going to be a star behind the plate in bets guy in right field. You're talking about an incredible group of talent. But you're also talking about an incredible payroll that just was able to recklessly go. Add mookie betts because they wanted to when you look at a team like the orioles this year spending what forty five million dollars on their entire payroll and the dodgers are spending close to two hundred twenty. I mean it's just that level of imbalance as the rich seemingly get richer. Is that good for baseball. Yeah it's not great. It's not great but that's what happens when you have an UNCAPPED SYSTEM. That's also what happens when you're in a sport where money doesn't necessarily equal success if the dodgers just went out spending money like literally that's all they did. We've seen that before. We saw that with the New York Yankees throughout the two thousand. Ten's didn't work and and I think the Yankees really change their mindset and started understand what the dodgers have long understood. Which is you cannot be successful doing what you do. If you're not developing players from within if you're not counter-balancing those larger salaries with minimum salaries from players that you have developed whether it's via the draft or international free agency. You have to have a balance of those two and when you see the number of players that the dodgers have developed it shows just how great their farm system really has been for everything that we've talked about the greatness of the when you look at the National League across the board when teams should the dodgers the most worried about no one. I mean. Look when you have a system in which there is a five game series. You should be afraid of everyone but over the course of one hundred sixty two game season. There's nobody who's going to challenge the dodgers. There's just not I mean the Arizona diamondbacks Jason a really good team. They're probably going to be double digits behind the dodgers in the National League West. Even if you go out east let's look at the defending world series champions The Washington nationals. Good the really. Good the got Max Shurer. They've got Stephen Strasburg. And Patrick Corbin Audible Sanchez in the rotation. They beat the dodgers last year. Even though they didn't have as much talent. That's the trouble with going as far in on. Mookie Betts as the dodgers. Did I absolutely think it was the right move? I absolutely think that it was at the right time but in the end when we look back on the two thousand twenty season there is a possibility and not an insignificant possibility either that the dodgers lose in the division series like they did last year and at that point with bet steel. Be Worth it. I mean the answers gotta be no right. Well let me counter that though I mean the answer is no anytime you acquire player. Sure I understand world series or bust but the dodgers are making money. Anyway they WANNA look at it so they're putting themselves in the best chance to try and win a World Series Championship. Is it as simple for the organization as World Series or bust? Yes I think it is at this point I think. The dodgers judge their seasons where they are right now with the talent. They have based on whether they have a gold ring encrusted with diamonds. That they're giving out on opening day the next year or whether they don't I think it is that binary and certainly you can take positives out of a season which you don't win a world series and have good feelings about the things that you achieve that accomplished but if you were to give truth serum to everybody in that organization. I think everyone would say we. WanNa win and we want to win. Now if you had to decide to to come in with an educated opinion and you're risking my house on it not yours my house on our friendship and it's dodgers of the field to win it all this year. Who who you take it. I'm GonNa take your question and twisted a little. If you had one team to choose to win the world series this year. Who WOULD IT BE? My answer would be the Los Angeles dodgers..

"Jeff Passan how are you doing on this fine wonderful day? I am both fine and wonderful Jason. Thank you Jeff. Passan covers major league baseball for ESPN. He's been in Florida and Arizona reporting on Spring Training. So we're GONNA talk dodgers today and they might be the biggest story because of what they did this off season that starts with the massive trade with the Red Sox if you had to give the mookie Betts trade story a tagline mookie betts the dodgers blank. It happened then. It didn't happen and then it happened again and the fact that it happened. I think really salvaged in offseason for the dodgers where their fans felt like they were. Fiddling is Rome Burns and it was interesting because if the dodgers had not gone out and traded for mookie Betts this winter or the spring as it were they still would have been the best team in the National League and they would have been the best team in the National League probably by a pretty healthy margin but to go out and get a guy who is arguably the second best player in baseball really speaks to just how important winning now is for this organization. I wanted to give everybody a peek behind the curtain of Jeff Passan. So walk me through those sort of the moment. You've I started hearing that this could be on the horizon. Well off season. There was a feeling that somebody big was going to get moved and you know as as time ticked away going towards spring training. The sentiment was that that was less and less likely. I remember getting a text and it was very simple. It said mookie dodgers traction and when you get something like that you know the alarm bells. Go off a little bit. I started poking around hearing. Yeah there may actually be some legs this deal but there were so many different iterations of it in terms of water the dodgers gonNA TAKE BACK IS PRICE. GonNa go with him. What sorts of prospects would they give up? We're following a developing story. That could be a blockbuster in baseball. The dodgers are in deep discussions to acquire star right fielder. Mookie betts from the Red Sox and bit of a snag in the mookie. Betts deal to the dodgers. The blockbuster three-way trade has been held up because of questions surrounding me health of at least one player. Pitching Prospect Bruce. Dr Red Sox didn't like the medical congressional who had Tommy John Surgery in the past. It started to come together and then obviously it looked like it might fall apart for a moment. What your thoughts. When it looked like the deal was sort of breaking up. The dodgers were not going to let mookie. Betts play for another team this year. Even as Boston and Minnesota we're negotiating and trying to figure out their end of what was supposed to have been a three way trade and when that did not happen. The dodgers stepped in and said you know what we are going to make this deal happen and it's exactly what they did and that bets blockbuster. It's reworked but done Boston agreeing to send two thousand eighteen. Al Mvp Mookie. Betts pitcher David price to the dodgers for outfielder. Alex do go. And prospects jeeter downs encounter Wong. Boston also said we've talked a little bit about the deal but I wanNA talk about Mukhi specifically what makes him so. Unique is player issues graded everything he hits. For average he hits for power. He's an excellent base runner. He's arguably the best right fielder defensively in the game. He's a good clubhouse presence. Nice guy what can you bring to this team this franchise the help and finally bring a championship to La? I'm GonNa do everything I can bring. My energy reminds Simon Work. Work hard Trying to rub off that way. I know there's a lot of guys that work hard and do everything they can't hear and so I'm just GonNa be here at onto that. Should make our case for twenty twenty world series for sure. You look at Mookie Betts and you try to find fault with him and you just can't I mean the worst thing you can say about. Mookie Betts is. He hasn't been a superstar in the postseason. He's going to get a chance to play in the postseason again this year health permitting. And if he's out there in October on the biggest stage with free agency about to hit I feel like that is his time to absolutely shine and show everybody why he believes that he's going to be baseball second. Four hundred million dollar player next to my trap. And what's interesting is that you said earlier. The dodgers fans were restless even though they would have gone into the season likely as the best team without Mookie Betts. So why was it actually necessary to acquire mookie? It wasn't necessary optimal. Sometimes when you understand just how good your talent is and what the landscape is across the rest of baseball. You realize that it's worth going for it that sitting around and trying to get as much surplus value as you can might not win you a championship now. Trading for Mookie. Betts might not win you championship either but you certainly have a better chance at doing so when you have him in the middle of a lineup. That already is pretty devastating. I promised we wouldn't talk entirely about the Astros but there is an element of this conversation. That is Astros based or at least saw signs dealing based when you look at the way the seventeen and eighteen world series went down. How much does that play into the way that they approached the off season this year? Yeah I don't think it's an element I think it's a large part of it. Honestly I mean let. Let's look at what the dodgers have done. They've won seven straight National League West Championships and they bowed out in the S. The first time around in two thousand thirteen and they did it in the lcs again in two thousand sixteen when you get to two thousand seventeen and you're playing in the world series and you have a team that's one hundred four games and you feel like they are every bit as good as the Astros and then they go and lose in game seven at the Houston. Astros have claimed that city's first ever World Series Championship. That is a gut punch. And when you come back the next year and you run into a team in the Boston Red Sox that has just buzzsaw through the playoffs. You know that hurts to the Boston. Red Sox baseball all season. They have water at a celebration begins and now to look back and know that the two thousand seventeen astros had spent the season and according to Rob. Manfred the playoffs as well cheating. We have a developing story in major league. Baseball has launched an investigation into allegations. That the Astros Centerfield camera to help steal signs during their two thousand seventeen championship brunt and to look at the accusations and allegations against the two thousand. Eighteen Boston Red Sox and to believe that at some point in the near future maybe at the end of this week we're going to have a better accounting of what they potentially did. Mlb says it will investigate allegations that the red sox used their video replay system to steal sides during the world series winning season in two thousand eighteen. That hurts and that sort of thing that sticks in your psyche as much as you want to wipe it out of your mind and say there's nothing we can do. There's no sense in looking back. How can you not you just said it? Sometimes it's best to move forward. Is there still value for the dodgers continuing to air their grievances continuing to shed with it? I mean as a reporter who loves players speaking their minds. Of course there's a wonderful intentive cody bellinger and Justin Turner in particular or quite outspoken. On the topic. I mean these guys are cheating for three years altuve as stolen. Mvp from judge in seventeen. Everyone knows they stole the ring from us. It's hard to feel like they earned it and they earned the right to be called champions. I I know personally. I lost respect for those guys. Everyone in the show in the big leagues lost respect for those guys. I think it's pretty obvious. That whatever the commissioner thought he did he didn't do it very well. They said all of the things that so many players around baseball felt but they said them from the perspective of someone who is actually deeply harmed by this to have the ability to win that championship. For what would have been the first time in almost three decades at that point taken away from you really still angers the dodgers and brought them out. Maybe a strong anyone around the game. I think they've said their piece at this point and I think they need to lead their game. Speak the rest.

"The lead is brought to you by Roman there's some things we avoid talking about because they're just uncomfortable in maybe because we're afraid there might not be an answer to our problem EADIE is one of those things but with Roman Eda is easy to talk about Roman is a simple safe in totally discreet way to get in touch with the real doctor who can prescribe real medication with Roman you can get a free online evaluation in ongoing care for ed all from the comfort and privacy of your own home if the doctor determines medication is appropriate for you Roman will ship it to you with free two day shipping eighty used to be tough to tackle but now there's Roman complete an online visit today to connect with the doctor and take care of it go to get Roman dot com slash lead to get a free online visit and free two days shipping that's get Roman dot com slash L. E. A. D. for a free visit to get started get Roman dot com slash lead so am I coming back today after the Astros released this statement accusing this SL reporter of making up the story basically calling her journalistic veracity into question we get some other statements from the Astros from todman himself as well kind of trying to ease the situation tubman issued a statement saying that he used inappropriate language for which he was sorry and on Tuesday and the statements they released is any acknowledgement that they had essentially falsely accused reporter of fabricating story and they still have not acknowledged what they did there or that it was wrong or apologized to nap Stein or sports illustrated and what has been the reaction from all the way at the top of the Astros did Jim Crane the owner of the team come out and say anything yes he said that the team is committed to using their voice to create awareness and support on the issue of domestic violence and with these kinds of issues well we'll before he bought the astros his company. Eagle global logistics faced complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission about alleged racial discrimination and discrimination against women in the workplace and this was back in the nineties so again years before he bought the Astros but the Zee did issue a report confirming those findings in the company ended up settling for nine million dollars so we talked a lot about the astros reaction to this in many ways the astros action is the story but what has Major League Baseball's Reaction Been Mentally Baseball has said that they are investigating and that they're you know they they said really declined to comment further until they finish their investigation I've heard they do have investigators on the ground in in Houston who are now looking into this who will talk to the reporters who saw it happen if they do conclude that the report is true they can issue fines or suspensions or other sanctions on along those lines and so What do you think needs to happen going forward well I think is Ken Rosenthal wrote in his column yesterday if the Astros aren't going to fix this or or reacts in the Right Way then that means Major League baseball has to I think they need to step in with fines or suspension or some combination of those things and to really make clear in this clubhouse incident but they still have a world series to play what kind of a role do you think Roberto Suna will play on the mound in the series precision and go back go back to covering baseball I will try. "You want it you need it it's what everyone's talking about the Kevin Sheehan show now here's Kevin you're listening to do the sports fix Tommy's in Houston joining us by phone Aaron here I am here World Series Game One tonight Astros fielders you refer to it ghost towned field I I didn't want to just real quickly mention the Monday night game last night and I don't know how many of you watched it but man the patriots are getting all sorts of run this morning for being one of the great defenses we've seen in modern NFL history in their allowing six point six points a yards six point six points per game and their their numbers defensively it's like two hundred twenty three yards per game they've been dominant defensively I've heard comparisons this morning to the to the eighty five bears to the seventy-six steelers do you know who they've played in their first seven in games I mean they haven't played one team that is good offensively they played the steelers with Ross burger playing with one arm and opening night the dolphins the jets twice the bills by the way the jets once without darnold the bills who Josh Allen Taste Blaine Gabbert the redskins the giants and that's who they faced I mean are you kidding me like we're all we're going to compare them to the eighty five bears when they haven't played one team that is capable offensively of moving the football and scoring points. I think that's ridiculous there good but it's way too early on New England's defense I think I might want to point out that of the quarterback who have faced New England Cole McCoy the second highest rating of any true yes Berta with I sixty five something called the second at Sixty one point five I think all you need to know they are beating up on the little sisters of the poor and they're having their way with them things are going to change for the Patriots here in the coming weeks you know they get the browns this coming week which you know did they struggled offensively and then they get the Ravens and Lamar Jackson which will be one of the you know midseason heavyweight matchups in Baltimore on Sunday night November third that'll be great you know they still have games like on wrote against Philli Houston play the chiefs at home they play the cowboys at home there are games in which the Patriots can prove to be the eighty five bears but not in their first seven games when they have literally played some of the worst offense of teams in the League in a couple of them as bad as we've seen in recent years so there's all that I just wanted to get that out of the way because I did watch some of the game last night and I am I'm impressed I mean they have twenty two takeaways through seven James You know they're averaging over three takeaways AH game um that's a lot in the NFL and they had five of them last night from Sam Darnold who who is terrible in that game last night all right you're in Houston for the world series just give me the scene and and what it's like to be world series you've been at many of them but to be at one where you know the the team from the town that you're writing in is playing in it well that's what makes it special something I thought would never happen I've covered ten world series in my time and when you're covering the world series for or you know and it's not your team it's an easy Gig you know I mean you're just there you write your columns it's pretty easy But like when you're covering the world series for your team everything gets magnified and the workload is harder but I think it's great I just think it's it's it's fabulous to be able to to you know I can't wait until game three till you know they come home for Washington I argued in my call that it will be the biggest sporting event the town has seen since the last time they hosted the world series really you think since nineteen thirty three we we've had NFC championships in this city we've had Stanley Cup Final Games we've had ca championship NBA Finals Games in this city what makes you think that the world series is the biggest since nineteen thirty three well again I said NFC championship game. I know what's at that three week run in eighty two of the Redskins you know winning three straight playoff games at home is probably the greatest free weeks in the history of DC sports I get that but in terms of an event a magnifying event and stature I don't think the NFC championship games hold up to the world series I certainly don't think the NBA Championships in nineteen seventy eight hold up to that and the Stanley Cup while it was a lot of fun and through a lot of interest is it's not the world series in terms of magnitude I just think this'll be the biggest thing the biggest sporting event the town is has played host to since nineteen thirty three I know I know where you're coming from it makes sense to me I'm the way I I wasn't thinking of it definitely can be argued I mean you have only had add in this city in the four professional sports an NBA finals game a Stanley Cup finals game and now a world series game so it's essentially comparing those three you know the NFC championship game against the cowboys and against the forty niners against the lion as you know and against the Vikings you had four of them during that period of Joe Gibbs all of them you know at home he played in five of them being the one the meadowlands against the giants that they lost but the four of them at home were you know the the comparable to the world series is the Super Bowl it's not the NFC championship I'm trying to think of big championship fights here none of them would match a world series game yeah you're probably right we haven't had a final we're here we have been had a college football championship here you know we haven't had any that is so I'm GonNa be there by the way Friday night I got tickets excellent I'm glad to see I'm glad to see that you'll be there because it again it's gotta be a moment to treasure it'll be it'll be a moment that that people talk about whether good or bad for decades yeah this'll be a new memory for uh Washington sports fans could a baseball town is Houston I a lot like Washington DC you know a a lot like Washington the NFL rules here even though they've lost a football team here in the oilers who moved to Tennessee I think in two thousand or or or something like that I forget when they moved no it was in the early late nineties when they moved but the Texans are still the top dog here because this is Texas football rules in Texas but and the rockets you know it's interesting the Astros postseasons excess over the years remember they went to the world series in two thousand two thousand five or two thousand two thousand four two thousand five four I think now two thousand five they went to the world series so they've had some against the white sox against the white yeah yeah yeah so they've had some season success and that automatically builds up a fan base and fill up a stature you know the rockets had to NDA championships under a team so that makes up the rockets and I say the rockets and the Astros are probably even keel in this town sort of lights you know like in La Lakers in the dodgers but the astros are a big deal here because Oh because again of of you know this is their second world series in three years they want over one hundred games in the last three years it's a big deal here in town we haven't talked at all about the world series matchup but I feel like I've asked this question did just about everybody over the last two days ask it of you as well are you surprised based on the matchup especially the pitching rotation versus pitching rotation which are you know as a heavyweight pitching rotation matchup I mean you may have to go back to two thousand one unit Randy Johnson Roger Clemens Might Move Sina and in that Arizona Yankee series way back in the day Andy Pettitte to find a heavyweight pitching rotation ship like this one but are you surprised that the nets are as big an underdog is they are I mean this morning and I went and looked my sites back up to minus two thirty five and by the way tonight Garrett Cole is a minus two ten minus two fifteen favourite over Max Scherzer I bet Max here's your never pitched as a starting pitcher as a bigger underdog then tonight I would bet that that that's the case but Tommy go ahead are you surprised that Houston the X.. By Vegas measures expected to win so easily well I think the fact that they have the postseason experience that hey do again this is their second world series in three years you know they want over one hundred games he to those years Garrett Cole well Max Scherzer is considered a leak Garrett Cole has been considered on edible pretty much this year so I mean he exits even the slimmest of another level even above shirts but I think the postseason experience has a lot to do with it in terms of of you know what what the odds are I gotTa Tell Ya you know just watching the teens workout yesterday and being around the Astros for the first time I don't have a good feeling about this why well because and look at the the the whole let's have fun thing has served the nationals. Well you know the Dave Dave Martinez I want them to go out and have fun let's just have fun it's got them this far but the Astros are here to take care of business you know I mean they're here because they think world series is there you know they think they should have been to the world series last year I mean and and and they act that way they just there's you know you know heads talk about how mature his team is as opposed to how much fun is seen as having and I just haven't sent that you know the the the fog the hunt bus is GonNa hit a big roadblock here in Houston I think the Astros think that they're going after what is rightfully there and I still think the nationals plan with found money ever since they you know they they've made the wildcard considering the nineteen and thirty one start I don't think that's GONNA be enough against Houston do you think that there is an element I'm just glad to be here with the nets I don't know if it's that because I don't know if it's that I mean they they don't say so and they have a lot of veterans that do they're the oldest team in baseball but you know not a lot of guys have been through the World Series I just think I just think the moment if you know we'll overwhelm the nationals maybe a far more than it would overwhelm the the Astros glad to be here there might be a sense of that that might be part of it 'cause he certainly the astros aren't glad to be here I mean again is that none of that with Houston so there's part of it and I could be off this is just this is just a a mood indicator you know around team you know that that is usually pretty accurate and the astros liked they there this is this is their this is their business winning world series I don't know why we haven't taken advantage in the past have you being able to walk through a locker room in getting a feel for a team I mean this is valuable information that you should have been you know more Adam Eh that this has been you know maybe a talent of yours to walk through locker room not talk to anybody get a really good feel for the team and then relay that in information to me just in time to bet that night's game I don't know why we haven't taken advantage of that We probably should I in the future I under are in the locker rooms everyday very few not enough yes especially if you're doing it too in the mornings but any well not enough in your opinion I I don't I don't think it would help me one way or the other I tend I think I have more contacts with the football team.

"We've got that covered every which way ahead of one feels like the biggest regular season game of the year Jerry Jones says something about his coach that may very well signal that begin think of the end that more time to get up with you starting right now whenever such assembly evacuated been gathered around one table at one time that we have here again the huge trade from the NFL that we've been waiting and waiting for has finally happened we will get there but speaking of finally happening here we go in DC last night up three games was Gernon nats looking for this week marks the sheriff against the cardinals Rookie Dakota Hudson trying to keep the cardinals alive and not well it's already one nothing that's when Soto pucks this one two left and wants to has been one of the best hitters all baseball this postseason at twenty years old this guy is a superstar already too I think and now what happens here three batters later this one is sky high why don't they catch well this is just a microcosm of the entire series they could not do anything right offense starting pitching but then when your defense start doing these things you know the game zone so it was three nothing in the bases were still loaded and then young domes unload I'm with that one too runs will score Hudson's day is over after just fifteen pitches it's five nothing and Patrick Corbin didn't need any more than that he was dominant kidman goes down swinging and then it's Jose Martinez swinging and Paul Goldschmidt Swinging Corbin the first pitcher ever to strike out ten over the first four innings of postings amy we're finished with twelve finally top nine two outs cameras ready last out of the series nationals wins seven to four they advanced to the world series for the first time in Franchise History Planta celebration and the wait begins I can play that is amazing my heart is jumping right now he's really good this team I love his team and where everybody got what a moment what is it about this starting staff it's like each one wants to do better than the previous one we're just own saying we're locked in and we're going to say I'm lost of words right now Steve Way for but I just know we've got more work in front of us but we're GONNA join US tonight they completely dominated the cardinals in ways we've never before the playoffs they're able to strike out cardinal batters thirty six percent of the time and held them hitting one thirty both of those postseason records they also became the seventeen never trail in a four game sweep so they are onto the world series well they make Yankees Astros in the Bronx yesterday even at one game apiece let me we know on the hill against Garrett cool in the critical game to me and right away so as to back yet and this is a home run from out to his twelfth career the postseason matching his the George Springer Astros all time and the Yankees crowd got a little quiet after that but then the story of the game are opportunities they have against Garrett Cole like this one Cole was not perfect his command wasn't there a lot of runners on base four walk the first four innings but the Yankees could not come through that was Gregoria swinging at the first with the bases loaded in the first and then Josh rettig sands one these are just hanging sliders from Severino remember the only had more start during the regular season l. not perfect was his commands another chance for Gregorios Against Garrett Cole and the regular season this is a home run it's a little bit cool right now greet people are talking about the as balls everybody in the stands thought that thing was gone and actually dared to off the bat and and then call would settle down and he will get Aaron Hicks in here to get himself out of the six that in the seven he's getting.

"Wonderful then the balls do you want to talk more about the balls first no you can talk about the balls if you want the balls oh god the balls i i'm sure you love talking about balls but obviously a lot of our fate o out of her fans a lot of open cadres have heard the stories but do the ones that really haven't been paying attention on a decide a bit big huge controversy about the baseball's used in the playoffs not just the world series of the story really came out during the world series put a lot of the bit while the players were saying man this is happening all do throughout the playoffs when he got down to it the thing that that people were noticing that the baseball's in the playoffs and the world series in particular where slicker were not rubbed up the same something was different about the baseball that made it more slick now to take that from a general idea to specifics of how this really might affect people is when you're pitching and this is why people use pine turned stuff in it's not necessarily don't take that i might sit out of it that using pint are sheeting what just talk y you use pijar you use it to grip the ball use it attacking us so you can throw a really good koerbel you can throw really excited because you feel the ball when you feel the ball think about every time right before you throw that you feel like the ball slips out of your hand and you're not going to have confidence that unifil that ball where you need to and a baseball it's a game of inches it's not a game a fee so when it's a gain of inches ans gave of like centimeters gave a mill meters the world series every location every spin every count matters now you.

"Dodger the dodgers sort of should've wonder world series probably within the last five or six years yeah i should have won a world series in the last five or six years and you can't keep coming up short with a payroll like this and a team like this k you have have the best players in the league hey you are the best team in the nl you can make an argument that they were better than the astros in the entire league this season obviously the ashes when the world series but i'm talking about regular season so yeah they should have started car show a crucial i feel and just yu darvish is his head wasn't in it at all i mean i'm i'm not really sure he just he was just getting hit the dashes were just teeing off on restoring great batting pat practiced the astros and like i said the ashes are just teeing off and when starve his came out ashes couldn't do nothing so i don't know like i said sure the fans for life probably feel that you darvish as public enemy number one but it really should be dave roberts but able to get into the game scoring plays and all that stuff so in the first inning it started off pretty much just as bad as it could for the the dodgers i mean there's literally nowhere start okay brakeman he was safe i'd say i mean he he hit a ball i think he was to the oils to the pitcher or it was the first baseman hit the belhadj or boundary comes off his back to go get the ball and garbage is coming back to cover first and there was already a guy on second i believe second or third i can't remember exactly it was george springer who is on base and bellenger goes feels the ball and he throws a him to just those about bought a darvish at first in the ball gets behind darvish and scores off of that and boom you're just making it a game seven this is not good for the dodgers and then later on in the ending i'll tubay hit the ground bought a first in the dodgers were playing in i believe i think i'll to be just hit it so software really the first baseman ken an couldn't do anything and bragman scored which made it two zero.

"Yes i'm with you i just think it's it's completely different now the way that it is the general managers are looking brian cashman you want to talk about the evolution of the general manager i mean he added the reins over to joe tori and then he hired gerardy ten years ago because he loved with gerardy was and now geordies even better a better version of that guy ten years ago and now he's not good enough anymore everything just changes i know you know so let's talk about the two individual measures in themselves you've got dave martinez taken over world series kalbir team with the washington nationals he's been joe batons right hand man with the raise and then with the cubs so he's won the world series with man these been world series he's very personal guy the guy i've had a chance to talk to many times over the last decade or so and smart guy analytical mine guy that gets along with the players and he has a great opportunity to i mean i can't think of a job that is available well i can think it to actually this one in the yankees where you are right on the doorstep of having a world series team so great opportunity for david martinez yeah i mean how often do you get that opportunity i mean you'd basically you get the gave kappler opportunity you get to take over team that scuffling and starting over and they want to go on a different direction and they'll they'll give you a few years to to get something going there rarely do get the takeover a team that's either already been in the play offs or knocking on the door to win a world series championship those teams still kid handed to new managers like the like they are here this season as you talked about with the nationals in the yankees and that stuff doesn't happen but it is now and same thing really a few years ago when they did the same thing with brad office in detroit now we all saw that fell apart quickly but he was handed a pretty darn good team when he took over there so it it to me.

"But it was while twenty three point six million viewers that's a lot for a baseball game as a lot should've been 23 points six and one thing it so the the football game added nine point four overnight rating so yeah the world series beating soundly and we'll see what happens tomorrow but there's a lot of intrigue in this like will anybody any of these guys who look like absolute lunatic homeless people trim their beards will that ever happened stuck don't i don't understand it and then the the racism situation with gerry yell who kinda tried to make his eyes look japanese or something line when he was in the dugout just a really weird gesture and and four that he's been he's been suspended for five games at the start of next year so that will take place in april he's allowed to play in the world series also on major league baseball bruce maxwell who is the only major league baseball player so far to have taken a need during the national anthem was just arrested for pointing a gun at a female food delivery driver it's unclear they don't know the details of how the incident unfolded or what precipitated him pulling the gun on her but he's done that and now he's been charged with dan i don't know aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct well so maybe he should pay more attention to obeying the law and less attention to whatever this protest is about two good safety tip.

"So again other than kinda giving me a little bit of a panic attack because i had the make it back to the studio and i wasn't expecting it to be 228 it was a very very good first game of the world series gp kershaw now six in one with a three three nine era in his last ten playoff games and yes there will still be people who want to criticise them that's too bad it doesn't matter any more or less this guy comes out for game five and completely blows it and i ain't that i don't imagine how that's possible at this point he's pitching so well but after gives that the home run of course social media this guy's given up homerun after homerun ball i mean that's going to happen from time to time given up a home run though in seven straight postseason starts that's the only thing you can knock of four because everything else he did tonight was just about perfect yeah it was a set of very very well pitch game and i'm just happy for him to go out there listen you know he here's the critics in mecca told you he he'll never the guy's a pro he's always going to answer the kerr the correct answer he's gonna answer the the question with the correct answer and uh but you know deep down inside you've seen his competitiveness you remember when we were on on the show that one time and the opposing pitcher was walking through the field and you remember how matti got so you know the dudes gut fire when he's on the mound heats takes a lot of pride and what he does and so i'm sure that he took that to the mouth with him and now he's you know under his breath go on everybody can eat it.
