"This is morning edition on W N Y C. I'm David first. Democrats control both houses of the New York State Legislature and may be in line to pick up some seats this election. One New York City billionaire is trying to change that. Ronald Lauder, the billionaire heir to the Estee Lauder companies, has donated nearly $5 million to elect Republicans to the state Senate. A large amount of money in local politics here to tell us more is city and state reporter Zach Williams joining us via Skype. Welcome to W N Y C Thanks so much for having me Many people are familiar with Ronald Lauder's family business, but he's also active in politics and Jewish causes. Tell us more about that. So Ronald Lauder is the president of the World Jewish Congress on organization devoted to finding antisemitism across the world, and he's also a pretty high profile supporter of the state of Israel, as well as a long time Republican Party insider. This includes a stint as the ambassador to Austria under Ronald Reagan, and he even lost in 1989 GOP primary to Rudy Giuliani. Since then, he's become a little bit more low profile in terms of state politics, But he's remained a very prominent conservative donor, especially the stupor packs targeting Democratic congressional candidates here in New York. Well, you've reported that he's supporting a super PAC that is trying to get Republicans elected in nine state Senate district's How is he choosing who he targets? So he has given more than $4 million through this group called Safe together New York, which is targeting nine Democrats running for the state, Senate and swing district on Long Island, upstate as well as here in New York City. The ads themselves, which are mostly running on Facebook and social media, are focusing on the new limits on cash failed that Democrats passed. Last year. All of these Democrats voted for those reforms in 2019. But Republicans have really tried to make it a big issue in the 2020 election, especially with President Donald Trump at the top of its ticket, you know, blasting New York has As a place where crime is running amok because of reforms like this. One of the Democrats he's targeting is Andrew Bernard is the first terms state senator from southern Brooklyn. Who is being challenged by Republican Vito Bruno. Is that supposed to be a tight race? Thank Senator Andrew can artists is running a really interesting area of New York City Southern Brooklyn Bay Ridge? You know, it's a lot more conservative than a lot of other areas of the city, and he actually unstated a Republican incumbent in 2018 by just a few 100, both Republicans are hoping to win it back this time. They think they've got a really good chance to get this deep, especially given the margin and how reforms like bail reform have played into state politics over the past year or two. Zach, you have written that Lauder isn't really trying to win back the state Senate for Republicans, but is instead trying to prevent Democrats from achieving a supermajority, a two thirds majority. Why? What? What happens if the Democrats get that supermajority? Well, call me a political cynic, But I think that he's really concerned about Congress. After all, you see if the Democrats get just two more states in the state's done it they would control the redistricting process in 2022, which could mean you were Republicans getting elected from upstate New York, Long Island, Even New York City. And if the Republicans can keep the Democrats from getting the 42, they could also prevent the Democrats from overruling gubernatorial. Vito's in the future. Give them a little bit more leverage going forward as well. And does his interest in redistricting have something to do with his interest in Israel? I think the reasoning basically goes that more Republicans you get in Congress. The more support for Israel, you're going to get On and that's very much on the mind of a huge donor like Ronald Water. Do you think all of this money that Lauder is donating is going to have an impact? Is it going to tip Any of these races to Republicans. Things were not looking very good for the Republicans at all before Ronald Water, and some other donors really started to give big money down. This dress and legislative races tend to be In the low six figures. $300,000 is a pretty typical amount for a competitive candidate to raise. So when you get somebody throwing $4 million into nine total races it really puts The Republicans and the good position from a money standpoint to win some of these races, But we're only going to know for sure once all the votes are tallied and what looks like to be some pretty competitive races. "I'm John Nash this is the John Batchelor show a welcome Ron Lauder the president of the world Jewish Congress writing most recently at Arab news because there is a melodrama on TV in the Middle East it's extremely successful it isn't the usual expected melodrama of fear and love and sacrifice it's about history is that probably in mid twentieth century in an unnamed town in the Gulf and it demonstrates what was true for centuries before the unhappiness and misery and tragedy of the twentieth century that is Jews and Christians and Muslims all living in the same town and with the same advantages and hopes run a very good evening to you this story is called maroon it's make believe it's fiction and it's about a woman in midwifery and it's extremely well done it's melodramatic however what's important here is that it exists at all are you surprised Ron that it's that it's exist and are you surprised that it's popular art to live very audiences that have been talked to of the intolerant toward Jews good evening to you all thank you I'm amazed exists I called the quiet revolution and during Ramadan people will watch it in the evening they have evening meal and the fact is is the most popular show on television he was a show that came out of Saudi Arabia television television there was always anti Israel anti Jewish it's been and the political aspect is also with us and the writing was a lot to do with the UAE as well as a range is about pulling the woman and it's done a fictional city in the Middle East but you see in that city Jews Muslims and Christians living together which is unheard of and is the most popular show has had a marked effect on how people feel about Jewish people all Christians in that part of the world and also it's amazing and I spoke to someone I know in Canada and they watch in Kansas with this watch all over and the fact is that isn't it is truly amazing let's go to your own travels in winter of this year before the virus you were at Auschwitz Birkenau and we've all been there and it's extremely upsetting to be there but you were joined by others who were remembering the seventy fifth anniversary of the liberation of the camp who is there with you and what was the significance I was there with the survivors of the seventy fifth anniversary but a few days before that NT two Arab leaders came there all together to remember how what happens is and with visa probably needs to go there together and say clearance it shows on a train a great change in the Middle East what does that say for our future if we can have peace between Muslims and Jews in the Middle East that is a major change and I believe it's happening it's happening because I believe not only of a TV show but they're tired of feeling of the yearning for peace hi Sam my article that Abraham preached peace Jesus preached peace and sort of Muhammad and this is amazing what's happening are the puzzles here is why does it take so long to have thoughts about that run as you travel why here in twenty twenty is it possible and it wasn't in twenty ten or two thousand or nineteen ninety I can't say why what happened now not ten years ago whiting happens and the fact is the sole owner told me last year some like this would happen I would say impossible you had today or yesterday a UAE planes Emirates landing in Israel with medicine for the Palestinians what does it say the first direct flight the team is not without the into into mentally what does that say what's happening and the fact is it was an enormous change well it might be because the run is putting such pressure on them and in danger that's a looking for Israel for help but I do believe it's a change in the entire attitude a whole new younger generation is growing up in the Middle East so who wants peace looks to countries like Israel has a place to who say we can learn a great deal from them in this show which shows a better halves Christians Muslims living together in nineteen forties and nineteen forty eight did live together and they did live in peace and I believe it's the beginning of a new era cycle the quiet revolution all right here's the paradox for Iran how is it that Saudi Arabia's leading this production the television production and ministers and religious leaders are attending Birkenau Auschwitz Birkenau memorial services and yet you have documented and we all of red antisemitism is growing in Europe and in the United States including on social media these things don't go together Ron looks anti semitism is it like to glorify survivors and what some of these countries are using and many anti Semites as saying the Jews because this this is the same stuff we saw in the fourteenth century with the bubonic plague when the wind went through Europe they said this is guards telling us to get rid of the Jews they caused their immune to it and many many many Jewish people were killed while many of the mold was pushed out of cities because of this you see this again anti semitism today particularly in our country and in Europe the senior amazed about is there's so much going on in other states and people are hiding behind the fact of free speech well it is a free speech to say the Jews of causing this let's give the Jews I think is a line between what is free speech and was promoted anti semitism and people being told to go out and kill people here's the here's the contrast though look at what's going on in Saudi Arabia you've identified here and look at the anti semitic activity we've had the violence over the last year in the United States is not all virus related the shootings were print for the virus right it is driven by something I'll accept the fact that it's a sickness but where does it come from if if the Middle East is turning tolerant why is the west turning intolerant or is it the west is having a a green close of anti semitism anti immigrant anti Muslim anti different things and we see this over and over again and it's really a question of groups of people want to keep their country's so called pure and they look at Jews Muslims blacks all of them as people who should not be here and the interesting thing is that Germany for example has just says they will not allow this in their country zero tolerance what we should have a New York state as the good lord now about this what we should have as a lawyer saying zero com zero zero tolerance for anti semitism Islamophobia or anti Christian anyone who says any of these three things is breaking the law and let's make a thing of what it says to say and to take action Ron Lauder is the president of the world Jewish Congress writing most recently in Arab news about a melodrama mmhm hi rune I recommend I'm John batch this is the John "Welcome back to ready and I live live from New York I'm Kevin McAllen another very special guests joining me a long with the orthodox Jewish notions gather in large numbers it's just unacceptable I have a large long relationship with that as anti semitic statements to make and that's kind of how I interpreted in the southern states hi I use it all the time frame France is not that doesn't give you a fast what the mayor said on Twitter last night had symbolism and here's what he put my message to the Jewish community and all communities is this simple the time for warnings as past I've instructed the NYPD to proceed immediately to summons or even arrest those who gather in large groups this is about stopping the disease and saving lives well I don't know that that's actually what it is all about because as we have begun to flatten curves and as we have seen therapies come into effectiveness and has there been many people across the United States that have had issues about whether or not their civil rights are being taken away I don't think that our Jewish friends should be made second class or or or half citizens when it comes to those expressions either and the mayor didn't do this for other people he didn't he didn't in fact if you if you look at a tweet from four twenty three April the twenty third just last week very different tone to Muslim new Yorkers beginning their celebrations tonight who the hell all meals we will have them across our four hundred plus grab and go meal sites bringing hundreds of thousands more to the thirty two sites most frequented by a Muslim communities the net you know and I'm not saying that the the the the gatherings were similar anything but there's just seems to always be with this guy this kind of under current of I'll tell you choose what to do and I don't like that I'm not Jewish but I've got a lot of friends who are lives with pepco is one of those that I count as a friend I also appreciate her greatly for what she's involved with in a group called the exodus movement which is a super pac but she re joins us to discuss a little bit welcome before we talk shop the surest of how your family and and those that you love are at this time thanks for having me first of all we're okay so that's also on the screen that I'm seeing so much going on around the country and literally all we can do is pray and hope to get out of this on the other side is better than we ever were because there's there's not a single word good point except for you know thoughts prayers and hope for the future yeah well and that's one of the reasons Elizabeth I've kind of transform the show into seeking solutions and I really I really lighten the load on being critical of politicians and other things about I I couldn't with the with the mayor's tweet last night it just didn't sit right with me and I I I my hunch was confirmed when I got up and looked at social media today because people friends of mine that are of the Jewish persuasion both political sides had their sights set on the mayor and I'm just curious when you saw the tweet last night that he's basically threatening to arrest Jews in the streets as they defy him how did that how did that strike you personally I thought it was a joke account before I actually realized that it was his I mean they were doing yesterday I believe that we also saw so many people completely forget about socialism thing when they gathered to watch the blue angels Thunderbirds fly over I believe it was New York and New Jersey officials were saying there was nothing that they could do when people are simply you know gathering and there's really no way to take it off them and the mayor did not say anything about that but he later tweeted about not just like you know casual warning but a warning about arrests Georgia you instantly and then actually colluding I believe personally gone intervene urging the crowd it was so out of character for anything that they all been preaching the last few months and criticizing president trump forms and yeah I mean I'm genuine beyond what I thought it was a joke well it does it does kind of you know the parity has gotten very sophisticated on Twitter and so if you follow groups like the Babylon bee or some of those you you kind of you kind of think this would be a headline you might see there because it's it's just that you know slightly tied you know lied but I know that it was not interpreted that way and I'm just curious Elizabeth for people that are not of the Jewish history or legacy or background or persuasion currently what why was this as troublesome as it as it appears to have been I mean everyone I think he knows that the Jewish community has been scapegoated over there over the years across the world not just in America for many different things I started a few months ago when I was talking about the disgusting anti semitic attacks I think some even you know critical environmental actually recently actually passed away well they were fighting over the last few months after being stabbed in Muncie I it was it was and people didn't realize that so that we can fighting for decades here but literally thousands of years around the world and when you think of the Jewish community it's nothing new to us honestly but to do it during a time like this and mayor of one of the most diverse cities in the world it's just baffling we back this what should the response be I heard that the world Jewish Congress was going to issue a censure but talked to Bethany Mandel earlier today and she said well that's that's kind of like sending out a memo doesn't doesn't carry a lot of weight is there anything that the mayor should be reminded our should take more seriously because it doesn't appear at least and at the time that you and I should have this conversation that he's seems to have been much bothered by it yeah I mean unfortunately I learned in politics sometimes the most people are willing to nearly twenty cents and the minimum and hope for the best but I mean he knows better than you and I do at all important enough already done something like this in your example I mean basically just an indication for more targeting the Jewish community and other ethnic communities that apparently because they're minorities just yet to be singled out like this on Twitter by the mayor I mean he's just inviting more floor you know at a time like this and so much over the last two years and I just enjoy one warrant and I I hope that everyone well friends of the best so we can do here is to raise awareness about it and ask you to get involved and I know that Elizabeth's organization is just one place where you could it is the extremist movement of the exodus movement dot com is where you can go online to find out more about what they're doing but there's there's an active all the opening of the I am becoming more aware of just how serious this issue is and I think that all American Christian and Jewish and Muslim ally should be standing up together and saying we don't knowledge nor accept this type of behavior and unfair lashing out at this particular community by this mayor don inspection on accountable way and that's what I believe M. S. one way the other do you use **** or Cialis have you been thinking about trying **** or Cialis what if we could promise.

"That I have seen enough documents with Kurt Waldheim initials or signature on them. That he was part and parcel than that team. It was Eli Rosenbaum boss at the World Jewish Congress. Edgar Bronfman who announced the new evidence a couple of weeks after the New York Times story which had been based on documents that had passed them. And suddenly they were this tiny organization at the center of this media storm. It was very odd. I think in our New York office, we probably had no more than six seven or eight people and the phones were ringing off the hook. And there were requests coming from everywhere, including of course, Austria cut fulltime, however, continued to shrug off the allegations his campaign managers accused his political opponents of smearing him. And he continued to campaign. This kid full-time message to Australian voters was look to the future not the past. And didn't it. He was elected president in June nineteen six with more than fifty percent of the vote. Will you surprise? I think the biggest shock to us was that the Austrian People's Party whose candidate volume wise responded to the revelations with some overtly anti semitic campaign messaging, and it was the first time that a major political party on the European continent had employed antisemitic appeals since the Nazi party of Germany had shocked the world in the nineteen thirties that was shocking, deeply deeply shocking ally. Rosenbaum who is today, director of human rights enforcement policy at the US Justice department was speaking to Luis Hidalgo as for Kurt vile time, he remained Australia's president until nineteen Ninety-two. But he was banned from entering the US and was shunned by much of the rest of the world next something for all of us who might find the modern world a bit stressful. What would? "January twenty seventh national holocaust remembrance day the anniversary of the liberation of off OSH wits Birkenau Nazi death camp back in one thousand nine hundred forty five and Evelyn. We know you're a very busy woman. And we want to say thank you for spending. All of this time with us this day. It's here in Florida. I want I want to point out we have in the Orlando area. I'm told it is the largest holocaust memorial in museum in the southeast. Or we also have holocaust museums in the Tampa Saint Pete area and in Miami. And those within the sound of our voice would do well to take a day. And going a couple hours, anyways and go and see these things and become aware of them. Because that's how we're going to pass this on and Evelyn if I might, you know, you're trying to ensure a we want to know that this is never ever going to happen again. Yes. First of all, I must thank you personally for taking your time. And and and making this very important program because you are really carrying out the most important initiative and that is educate educate educate. Now, we mentioned before they great danger of holocaust deniers, but they do believe that that danger. That's not come only from the deniers. Because the holocaust never chest and Nazi project. The holocaust could not have happened without the entire world. Locking down their way. World title lands and indifference to the holocaust. You mentioned. They they they got ranging reaction of generalizing. How were when he came? And so with his own eyes what had been happening, but the whole world knew about what was happening, and they chose for political reasons and other reasons not to take a stand. And so therefore, you always repeat that that kind of indifference and that kind of world silence. That is what did it to the horrors of the holocaust? And that to me is the ultimate, and we cannot decide and we cannot be up at that. They are in different be with made it very very clear in his statement when he said. That the opposite of hatred. It's not all those terrible things. The opposite of hatred is indifference. And this is something that we absolutely cannot continue to be fighting anti-semitism should be the task of everybody all over the world because when anti-semitism is rampant democracy is in danger. And I'm therapists things can happen. And you know, what even in this country? Great democracy. The United States of America. Just remember for a minute. What happened last October the horrific attack in the tree of life synagogue in Pittsburgh. So even in this country, horrible horrible things can happen. If we had not very very watch. This is really my my my message. And what are some specific ways that you get out that message or your organization get out gets that message out that maybe you haven't talked about yet. I always come back at Eucation is the most important thing because our organization for so many years has. They had all kinds of campaign. So as I say conferences and seminars and meetings, and tours of holocaust, museums and reaching or you're kinds of digging that tariffs and governmental figures and influencing governmental say guess, in international organizations, even they we were very very influential in the meeting of the OAC, they European organization for security when general Powell was the secretary of state, and he managed to introduce every solution that said very very clearly that Princeton anti-semitism modern anti-semitism today is also what is called anti Zionism. So we are fighting continuously to make sure that they village it mid session of the state of Israel should not have been in the international. Every now, this is also very much part of our program to fight anti-semitism. But our this campaign that I started telling you at our we remember campaign where we make sure that through so media, we reach the third this places in the world. Whether it is a Latin America arena straightly our in South Africa. Alright northern Europe. We must make sure that this message. Do not forget the holocaust never again. Never never forget that this. Was they made sure genocide that happened in the history of the world. And this is our message to continue educating all the generations to come now. "The World Jewish Congress Evelyn summer, the importance of this campaign cannot be stressed enough combating world hatred genocide xenophobia in all its forms and more on Evelyn. We certainly are glad that you're able to visit with us today when we went into that last break we were talking about history. And how rapidly the World War Two generation is leaving us. He's not beyond comprehension that in our lifetimes. We may see the last of of the World War Two generation pass on. And these were the folks who suffered this whole cost, and you were speaking to the importance. Of that. And I want to let you continue on that line. Yes, you're right. It is so critical for us tweed UK the young generation and teach the message of never again because seventy five years after the holocaust half of the world's population. Never heard of the holocaust here in the United States half of the American public cannot say what our sheets, even the wise. This is why you patient and memory is so important. Also, as you reminded, I saw survivors that can tell their personal stories are disappearing as they are in their eighties and nineties, and so very soon. There will be no personal witnesses less to this horrific story and to teach and for us to learn from them. The general assembly of the United Nations they creed years. Go that January twenty seven would be international holocaust remembrance day. Did they that the United Nations chose to remember their horrific events of Ford were to as it is the day that marks deliberate foul Shvets? The concentration cab by the American army in this way. The United Nations department of public information, it's trying to increase holocaust awareness throughout the world. What people don't know is that the United Nations has offices in every country around the world. And by having this information centres bring out information about the holocaust. They are serving a major need in countries that never even heard about the holocaust before. And also the World Jewish Congress is partnering with UNESCO. The United Nations organization for for culture. Relations and. With unesco. The World Jewish Congress has launched an international education campaign on the holocaust. And we had the big conference last year in Paris launching this big big international effort of UNESCO. And it can be reached around the world by going to about holocaust that or. Another very important initiative at this moment that we are very involved in is that. At the present time there is very important Bill coming to the United States house of representatives. That will provide said they'd rather fund for holocaust education when this Bill. Is passed. The holocaust will be studied in every high school in every state of the United States. Because at this moment, there are very few states that truly teach holocaust in schools. The Bill is called the never again do patient act. We would it be an important tool to teach the next generation. So important that Democrats and Republicans should support this Bill when it comes up for a vote very soon. I also believe that a an important a campaign to visit the holocaust museums all over the United States. Of course, the most important one is the one in Washington. Maybe you know that yet. Shame may in Israel. The holocaust museum in in the library and London they are over very impact for toys in creating awareness about anti-semitism and about the holocaust. And one of the things you have one of the reasons why this is important. Is because of a lot of people out there, especially on social media, push sort of holocaust denial acting like you really didn't happen. What does your organization do to fight against those kind of conspiracy theories? Yes. This is a very very negative development. And we are actively fighting this. This holocaust deniers in all our communities all over the world, especially in Europe. Now, why that sim holocaust denial occur? Holocaust denial is the act of denying the married. Murder of six million Jews. There is of course, a very large amount of historical documentation and Damani else that describe each facet of the holocaust. So then you would last how can they love the holocaust explained? There are two answers. I think the first one anti-semitism the second one, ignorant plain ignorance. And we have to fight both of them anti-semitism of the last and the right? Did they have developed a kind of conspiracy theory by which they question three major point Thursday question. They say that there was no official Nazi policy to marry there. They choose of course, we have to deny that. The second thing that they they ni-. Is the existence of the gas chambers? We certainly can prove that they got chambers existed chest by visiting they. I wish they'd today and Birkenau and three they claim that they six million fig they say Jewish acceleration that made through store hundred thousand or maybe three hundred thousand Jews died during the war. Of course, there is full documentation and materials and historical evidence. All over India museum says the libraries in our archives to refute all days. But. You know, we are living in times where anti-semitism is rampant. Left-wing anti-semitism an anti Zionism right-wing anti-semitism based on on on an antisemitic conspiracies. Theories that Jews have too much influence in business and politics at sit there and the only solution to stand up to all that is education. Only in this way. Will we stand up to hatred to the lies to the denial and ignorance? And also there is a very important. Problem now, holocaust deniers are getting much much younger. It is not the old then David Irving anymore more that generation actually has quieted down a little bit. What we have. Now is this very dangerous new development that I referred to before it this young men using the internet and typing there. Hey, and then sending it out to the world Evelyn if I might I'm gonna have to take another pause along our network line here. But I wanted to remind folks that at the end of World War Two in the spring of nineteen forty five General Dwight Eisenhower toured the death camps. He ordered that film be made and documental of this because he was afraid that years later people would deny it just as they are. And so we have those films from general Eisenhower, and he was touring with. With old blood and guts, George Patton and George Patton became so ill in the death camp that he had to leave the tour. General Eisenhower continued on his own. That's how violent and nauseating. This was and we're gonna talk some more about that. We want to remind you that this is the Florida roundtable. I'm Reagan Smith, Michael yapping, very special guest is Evelyn summer of the World Jewish. Congress will return in a moment. Have you written a book you can become.

"We are delighted to have you with us on the Florida roundtable today. Thank you. I'm delighted to be. There was Sunday. Of course is the anniversary of the liberation of ostrich Birkenau the Nazi death camp that happened back in nineteen forty five. And this is the national holocaust remembrance Sunday. And how appropriate it is to be chatting with you. Before we get into all of these things Evelyn wanted to ask you to go ahead and take the first minute or so and just tell us a little bit about yourself, your personal background if you would. Sure. I was born in Argentina in the notification Tina in the very famous Jewish colonies established by the baron hairs in order to find a place for the persecuted Jews that came from the Ukraine and Russia and. And my father was an agricultural engineer for the Jewish colonization association. So he was sent to Argentina to double check those those cultural columnist, and it was nineteen thirty nine and saying God. Yeah. Right. Then they did not go back to Europe. And so I was born in Argentina. He was educated there and in. Year college education, I came to the United States, I attended Columbia University. And the media I started working for the Jewish Agency for Israel. I chair they Latin American department there. I was the director of stay insecure for cultural relations between Israel and Latin America and. I became our said the Representative of wheat sell the women's international Zionist organization, which is a social welfare organization that has that credit to the United Nations and the as one of the organizations that participates also in the umbrella that is the World Jewish Congress. And they I I was chair of the American section of the World Jewish Congress. And then they after serving three terms there was elected to be the chair of the North American region of the World Jewish Congress. So this is the I serve in that capacity right now on so now, you have referred to the World Jewish Congress as a sort of umbrella organization. Elaborate on that for us and the organization of the World Jewish Congress. I couldn't hear you. Sorry. It's not clear. What did you ask? I want you to elaborate and explained to us about the World Jewish Congress gang being an umbrella organization. Yes. Of course, you know, sensitive establishment in the nineteen forties. It has been the core. Mission of the World Jewish Congress to fight anti-semitism. Racism, religious, intolerance, and all kinds of patriots. Now, the Jewish Congress today represents the Jewish communities in seventy five pound three surround the world. And it is sold of parliament of the Jewish people. If you will. Visit the holocaust museum in Washington DC, you will find today there original stakes of the telegram that Dr Gerhard Reagan-era Representative of the World Jewish Congress. In nineteen forty two informing them Mary can and British government of the impending catastrophe the distraction of European jewelry. You will also find their all the requests of the doctor Riegner to the international Red Cross to take stand and head Jewish Cheryl to trick you cheese. But we know that does requests where to now what? Since then it has been our priority. The World Jewish Congress to fight anti-semitism in all knowledge forms. Now have how have we done through conferences seminars applications meetings with governmental representatives meeting said the United Nations meetings with politicians at Mia? It said there. But for the last few years, we see that hatred is disseminated through social media. So we had the World Jewish Congress. We are in the forefront of fighting anti semitism in the in the digital world in the digital platforms. We created an important campaign three years ago. It's called the we remember campaign that includes survivors, dignitaries celebrities and thousands of people around the world that the post a photograph of themselves behind a message and hashtag we remember. And then we send it over. When we started this campaign. We they go off having six million particip- participants six million being such a symbolic number for us. But we have reached six and three hundred twenty five million people in this third places of the world by using all these digital made the by using Twitter, Snapchat and Facebook this campaign is now in its third year. And it is time to culminate in what you said on January twenty seventh international holocaust remembrance day. Our studies show that holocaust denial and anti semitism are very much a pin. So showed me the there is a whole new generation that only communicate through this platform. So we have very grateful to to Twitter for having taken. A very responsible attitude and behavior. Wouldn't that better? We had the World Jewish Congress. We see antisemitic content on social media, we pointed out to Twitter, and they block and they take it down. They have therefore very very supportive of Fowler. We remember campaign, and they and they tweeted all over the world individual photographs that I mentioned and they headed past so to educate and combat the spread of hatred on social media. I would say that this now is very much a priority of the work of the World Jewish Congress. In addition, of course, to our presentation of as I say, they sent seventy five Jewish communities around the world, and we just had a very important international meeting where a Representative so all those communities gave report of the situation in their respective countries. Now, do you? The work that we do Evelyn. You were talking about heat spread on social media. Do you feel that there's been a sort of a rise of anti-semitism too much anti semitism in the world the past few years that you've had to really combat against? Yes. Our and our statistics show that there is a rise of in social media anti-semitism. And and that is because you know, they they they they social media now is it platform for an enormous amount of young people and the young generation uses it now, of course, we know that Dan. Anti-semitism and hatred of Jews is is not a new thing in Europe. Anti-semitism in gyro has a long cultural religious and violent history. The Spanish and Portuguese inquisition. Was it major antisemitic development? The rash on Ukrainian pogroms of the last century where major antisemitic occurrences did dry post trial in friends that brought about the famous cold. So did choose traitors kid the Jews. They were major antisemitic campaign, but the holocaust is so much more. The holocaust is the largest genocide ever perpetrated against our it.

"And we're going to have a Representative of the World Jewish Congress Evelyn summer joining us in just a few minutes to talk about the holocaust. It's so many people in this country and in Europe. Admit readily that they don't know a thing about it. And I find that deeply disturbing. It's it's unbelievable to me honestly donuts. Wow. He's one of the worst things that Adolf Hitler came up with during World War Two. We really we. I think we had notions of it going on. But we never really fully uncovered it until the American and Russian armies got into Germany and opened up. These so-called labor camps work will set you free. L six million probably conservative of of people that were killed either gassed or shot from little children to grandparents and that generation is leaving us. So very very quickly, and one of the things that of course, I point out to my students is that this was not Adolf. Hitler was not going to limit. This just to the Jewish race and the Jewish faith. He had much larger plans as he created his super race. Is you came in known? It is really disgusting. When you look at the details of everything he wanted to do and everything he was doing. It was not like you said it was not just Jews. He was killing. It was Catholic bishops. Homosexuals. It was others gypsies. Yeah. Exactly. Right. They call them Roma and those who suffered people who were not in perfect physical condition people with mental illness. With physical disabilities for those are the people would do experiments on any eliminate them. Ultimately, you know, the experiment in the experiment ends in death g. Really discussed. Absolutely frightening. And of course, at the end of World War, Two many people and Dr Mangla and whatnot many of them escaped to Argentina and lived on into the nineteen sixty. That's where we eat off Aikman was in Argentina and sent him back to Israel to stand trial. Still we find people in Pittsburgh and in Cleveland in their nineties who were Nazi guards who escaped and the end of the war. Of course, this generation leaving us very quickly now. And I think that you, and I may well see the day when they announced that the last World War Two veteran has left us. But. It's absolutely frightening. How long this went on? And I must you. We we should give credit to Dwight Eisenhower when he saw this. He very quickly came to the conclusion that years later people would deny that this ever happened. And so he ordered the army photographers into the death camps to document with on film. What had been going on there? Yeah. And I think the reason he did that is because it was so horrible. It's almost unimaginable. To believe that something like that. Is possible in human history, but really relatively recent human history or to wasn't that long ago. In Germany was supposed to be a modern society. It was a modern society that they were capable of doing something so evil, and I think that's why a lot of people deny it. But the evidence is overwhelming actually have horses is. And this is the focus of our topic today. International holocaust remembrance day is January. The twenty seventh rule the World Jewish Congress. We're going to have Evelyn summer with us to talk about this. They have a in cooperation with the United Nations and UNESCO a huge education program going on. Incredibly important and. I can't I just can't say enough for what they're trying to do.
