The MMQB NFL Podcast
Fresh update on "world cup" discussed on The MMQB NFL Podcast
"Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones. Hello, everybody. Welcome to the MMQB Podcast. It is Wednesday, September 27, 2023. We are through the first three weeks of the season, headed into week four with the Lions and the Packers up in Lambeau Field starting it off on Thursday Night Football. I should be at that game covering it for SI, and it should be a good one. We'll get into that game a little bit later when we get to our top five games of the week. But Gilberto Manzano joining myself here, Matt Verdon. We have a lot to get into. This was a week that saw a team score 70 points. This was a week that saw the Bears continue to stink worse and worse by the hour. And this was a week that brought up a lot of consternation about the Jets and Zach Wilson and where this whole thing is headed. So we'll get into all that and more. But first, Gil, how are you doing? I'm doing well, Matt. But I got to say, you forgot to bring up also a week that we saw Taylor Swift in the suite of Arrowhead Stadium with Donna Kelsey. Come on, man. Yeah, I'm terrible at that kind of stuff because I'm so focused on football. But you're right. You're right. And the shame of that is I grew up a Chiefs fan, so I really should be on top of that. Let's start there. Do we think the relationship, is this something now that we think is real? Do we think this is like, you know, some people think it's a PR move. I'm more in the camp, but I actually think somehow this is real. I think Kelsey maybe drove the inside straight here with that friendship bracelet. He tried to get to her at Arrowhead. Do you agree or do you think it's PR? Yeah, well, first of all, sorry for making you talk about Taylor Swift. I know everybody's talking about everywhere, but I feel like I guess we have to, too. We have to. It's kind of a deal at this point, yeah. And you know what? I'm kind of with you. I think it is, you know, authentic, I guess. I won't say love, but dating here. But my conspiracy theory, Matt, here is I think they were dating before Travis Kelsey announced to the world he shot his shot after the concert. I think it was more like, hey, let's get some attention here. We are celebrities here. We need a bigger profile because, you know, Taylor Swift has, you know, worldwide attention. She needs more. So maybe that's where I'm losing myself in my conspiracy theory here. But, you know, if you're going to do a PR stunt for revealing, I guess, a new love life with another celebrity. That's the way to do it. Because the podcast for the Kelsey brothers, I'm sure it's blown up. I think it's number one on Apple podcast. So maybe number two is the middle week show here. I mean, could be. But there's a lot of tension over there. And it's interesting to see how it plays out and how people are very fascinated by this. And especially seeing all the TikToks of like, you know, all the wives upsetting the husbands saying, did you know about this Kelsey guy? You know, Travis and Taylor Swift really put him on the map and they all get upset. So it's been funny to see. It's funny because the Chiefs now have jumped from being this great football team that's won two Super Bowls in the last few years here to now they've become almost like Americana. Where when you turn on the television, you got Mahomes repping Subway. Mahomes is on State Farm. Andy Reid's on State Farm. On those Subway commercials is Chad Hennie, who Mahomes somehow cut into this deal. He's a retired quarterback who's now getting some play. Kelsey has DirecTV that he shares with Chris Jones. He's got Pfizer, which I'm sure in some corners of the world, heads exploded everywhere with that. OK, you've got Kelsey doing Bud Light commercials. He's on Lowe's commercials. And now he's got Taylor Swift up in one of the suites at Arrowhead Stadium, chest bumping, doing high fives, screaming some obscenities. And his mother's sitting there and they're renting out a restaurant after the game. Look, it's I don't know where this is all going. I don't know. Like if this thing's actually going to blossom into a full blown relationship and turn this could be friends like whatever, whatever it is, it's incredible. And on Sunday Night Football, spoiler alert, this is not going to be one of our top five games. The Chiefs play the Jets at MetLife. OK, where if you're into this type of thing, they're favored by nine and a half on the road over at SI Sportsbook. Taylor Swift lives in New York. I'm from that area of the country. That's not a hard commute to get to MetLife. OK, and I'm going to go ahead and guess she's not driving her Mazda Miata over to the game. She's probably going to be able to bypass some of that traffic. There's a damn good chance my opinion should be at that game. And if this becomes a twenty seven to three in the third quarter, we're going to be getting a whole lot of Taylor Swift's Travis Kelce. OK, so settle in. If you think it's bad before we're going to be at Collinsworth breaking it down. Torrico is going to be talking about it. It's it's unbelievable. You either love the Chiefs or you hate them with a visceral passion. I mean, I don't think there's anything in between at this point. Yeah, man, I think the NBC people, the TV executive are saying, you know what, this game might be very awful to watch. So can you send the car to get Taylor Swift so we can have a bunch of shots about her? Because Fox did it brilliantly there because it was forty one to zero against the Bears. And hey, just keep going to Taylor Swift and what, thirty four million people watch that game. So, yeah, you might be honest, I'm in there for her to attend that game. And and you talking about how how popular his team is. And, you know, it's just funny that it's in Kansas City. You know, nobody cares about those New York teams or the teams in L.A. It's in Kansas City. So a big win for the Midwest there. It's it's crazy. You mentioned that because I actually said something to my dad about this over the week. You know, this isn't New York or L.A. or Miami. We're like, listen, Taylor Swift to draw attention anywhere she was. But like there are celebrities walk down the street all the time in New York City. People don't even blink. It's like, oh, yeah, there's so and so. Right. And you just keep moving. Same thing in L.A., same thing in cities like the Miami, Chicago. Can you imagine being in Kansas City and you're walking around Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce drive by in a convertible? It's just like, what happened? And, you know, Mahomes drives by. I mean, it's it's just you know, I've been to Kansas City many times. I love going there. The people are great. The city is an underrated spot. But it's funny because it's not a city that historically you would have A-list celebrities just jet setting around to get into. You know, I'm going to take my daughter to a game because she's a Chiefs fan. We're going to go out there in a couple of weeks, going to see him play Denver Thursday Night Football. And that's going to be like a happening at this point beyond just, oh, it's a football game. Which, by the way, I think I'm going to end up being hit in the wallet for the fact now it's a happening and more than just a game. But nobody's going there to watch Russell Wilson in Denver. Right. Like it's all about, hey, look at Kelce, look at Mahomes. Is Taylor Swift in a box tonight? Where is she? What's going on? I mean, it's my daughter loves Taylor Swift. And so worlds have collided. And she's like, if Taylor's there, we have to find her. I'm like, yeah, OK, good luck with that. You know, I'll do the best I can, sweetie. But it's it's incredible. I mean, that was in a four o'clock window where not much else was expected to go on. The Cardinals ended up upsetting Dallas. That was the dominant headline throughout the entirety of the four o'clock window. So that's where we are now in the NFL. Yeah. And it's funny because I had no clue that there was hints that she'll be at the game. And I saw videos where like there was like parties like, hey, let's see what Taylor Swift arrives. And they were just like, there she is. And they kind of go, wow. Like they just saw the winning goal in the World Cup. And it's worldwide hysteria there. So I had no clue. I was kind of like, I guess, you know, went for me with the pop culture. Maybe I'm a little ahead of you with that, Matt. But even now, even I was kind of like, hey, there she is. But apparently everybody knew besides me. It's funny. I swear to God, I actually had a buddy of mine text me at like eleven in the morning. And he was like, tell us what's going to be at the game today. And I had this brief moment of like, should I tweet this out as a report? And then I looked at Twitter and Rich Eisen was like announcing it to the world. And I was like, you know what, I'm not going to, because if he's wrong, then like everybody's getting crushed today. And if I'm right, I didn't break it anyway because Rich got to it. But my buddy texted me a couple of days ago and he's like, I gave it to you. You should have had it. I was like, it was already out there and I wasn't going to risk my reputation on whether or not she showed up to a Chiefs game. But he was right. Kudos to him. And yeah, we got plenty of camera time for T. Swift. All right. Speaking of the game, the T. Swift may be at this upcoming week, the Chiefs and the Jets. We're going to move away from the Chiefs. The Chiefs did their job. They crushed Chicago 41-10. They look great. So on and so forth. No shock there. The Jets, on the other hand, they lose 15-10. OK, they lose to the Pats. They were at home. They're 1-2 now. They play the Chiefs this week before getting a trip to Denver, which who knows what will happen there. And then they play Philly. So not a great three weeks upcoming. The Jets have been resolute, or Robert Sol, I should say, has been resolute. They're sticking with Zach Wilson. He gives them the best chance to win. Now, should be noted, they signed Trevor Simien to the practice squad, obviously could be elevated at any point to the active roster. As we know, Wednesday, early afternoon, it is that Simien is not the starter at Zach Wilson. A, do you think that changes by Sunday? B, do you think it should? I don't think it will change by Sunday. That's a very quick turnaround to get incorporated with the offense and just learn things about being on a new team. But I could see it eventually happening kind of like Mike White a year ago. And the thing that's tough here for all the Jets players, a year ago, they had to do some kind of behind the scenes. Like, hey, we've got to pull this guy. He's not doing well, that being Zach Wilson. And they brought in Mike White. And it's tough for everybody. You don't want to turn in a guy and be like, hey, you know what? We're not feeling well. We're not clicking here, but we've got to go a different way. Hopefully you understand. So it's awkward. They're going to go through it again. So it's up to Robert Sol to make a decision. Enough is enough. You saw, yeah, they won that first game and it brought you some wiggle room to make an actual legit decision there. But he was bad in that first game. And then the last two, you've lost and he's gotten worse. And he spends the entire week, I'm sure, hearing from teammates, hey, just don't turn the ball over. Just kind of just play safe and give us a chance to extend drives and make plays. And now he's out there playing scared. Now he's overthinking. So when you lose your confidence, when you're playing slow out there, it's just a bad recipe. So I do expect you to eventually take over as a starter. But Matt, just saying that Trevor Sigmund taking over as a starter is not a good thing for the Jets there. So I get there's not a lot of options out there, but like you've got to try harder if you're the GM Douglas there. And at some point, it's like, are you just refusing to take the L on Zach Wilson? You want to get more opportunities because, you know, that was your number two pick. That was your baby. Or maybe it's on Robert Sala being this guy who really believes in his players. And I'm not going to go away from you after one one or two bad games like you did it last year. Do it again. I don't understand what's going on with here. Yeah, I mean, listen, I fully am on board with what you're saying. And so Trevor Sigmund has been in the league. He broke in in 2015. He was a legitimate starter, started 14 games through Denver in 2016, then 2017 started 10 games. Like over that stretch in those two years that I just referenced, he completed just over 59 percent of his throws with 30 touchdowns and 24 picks. Not feeling great about it. Like since then, he started a grand total of six games. So since 2018, the last five full seasons and now the beginning of this one, he started six games. And would you like to take a stab at his record in those six games? Is it one and five? No, it is not. It is 0-6. So he has not been the answer, everybody. He has not been. He started on the 20-21 Saints who actually had some talent and he went 0-4. He had 11 touchdowns and three picks, but he completed 57 percent of his throws last year with the Bears. Started one game, played in two, which was awful. Like here's what I think is going to happen. This is just based off of knowing that area and knowing the way that team operates. I think Zach Wilson is going to start on Sunday. And I think Steve Spagnuolo is going to actually physically put him through hell. I think that game is going to be Spagnuolo throwing about 900 different looks at him. Blitzes, dropping eight, all kinds of things. And you don't have to blitz to get home against the Jets because their offensive line is one of the worst in the league. The Chiefs this year have given up 33 points on defense against Trevor Lawrence, Jared Goff, and then, of course, the Bears leading the Titties. I do not think the Jets are going to move the ball a ton in this game. I think that's a fair statement. I think what's going to happen is after about three or four drives of Zach Wilson getting booed off the field, we might see a change of quarterback. Whether or not that is Simeon or that's Tim Boyle who's been the backup to this point, I don't know. I just think at some juncture you get to where Robert Salah is going to be forced to make a move. Whether or not he wants to is irrelevant. He's going to be forced to. And people who say, well, the fans don't dictate that. You're right, but when you have players who are visibly frustrated during the game as they were last week. When you go through a week where Joe Namath, who is the most famous Jet to ever put on pads, is saying he's got to go and, by the way, we might have to fire the coach and the GM. That starts putting an enormous amount of pressure not only on you but on your owner who at some point is going to be like, hey, Robert, it's time, man. We can't do this anymore. We're getting killed on the back page. We're getting killed in talk radio. Coaches may not care about that stuff. Owners do. And I think you're getting to a juncture where if they're down 14-0 midway through the second quarter and Wilson is, whatever, 3 of 7 for 14 yards, I think you have to yank him. Even if it means nothing in terms of winning the game. Even if Simeon comes in or Boyle comes in and everybody's bad, you have to show you're trying. You have to show you're making some kind of an effort to win the football game. Because, let's be real, barring an act of God, the Jets are not beating the Chiefs with Zach Wilson. It is not going to happen. That might be the biggest discrepancy in talent in NFL history at the quarterback position in one game. Patrick Mahomes is not losing to Zach Wilson. And he's in all likelihood not losing to Tim Boyle or Trevor Simeon, whoever else the Jets will want to throw out there. But at least you're showing that you're trying by putting somebody else out there. By trying Zach Wilson out there to go 10 of 23 for 100 yards and 2 picks, that's like taking a white flag and just jamming it into the field at the 50-yard line. And I think at some point here, Salah's going to be forced, like it or not, to make a move. Yeah, I'm with you. At some point when maybe you're down 14-0 after 2 or 3 minutes and you've got to treat it like a preseason game. You know what? Okay, it's going to be a loss here. You're not going to have a chance here. You're at home. Who cares? You're not going to beat Patrick Mahomes in the Chiefs with Zach Wilson. So try something new. Bring in Tim Boyle. I can't even say that seriously. Tim Boyle. Bring him in. Bring him in and just see what he has there. It's a preseason game at that point. Or then Trevor Simeon, I know it sucks for him to come in on short notice and figure it out. But again, preseason, just kind of do your thing, get people in line chemistry-wise. So I think that's fine. And it's just awkward all around, Matt, when the greatest player in franchise history, Joe Naaman, is saying, I've seen enough. Get him out of here. This guy's terrible. I'm sure Zach Wilson is aware of that. People hear about that. People get asked about that, especially in New York. I don't know if you saw that video, Matt, but Garrett Wilson was in the middle of an interview and somebody broke the news saying, Hey, you just got Trevor Simeon. Can I get your thoughts? And at that point, probably in his head, thinking, okay, finally, it's something different. But at the same time, it's kind of like, it is Trevor Simeon. I can't get too excited. And to his credit, he played it safe and said, you know what, I'm cool with whatever player they bring in for the organization. I support all my guys. But he knows he's frustrated inside. It's at some point, and I put it on a rundown here for the show, like, is it Carson Wentz? Is it Matt Ryan? And my answer to that is, look, there's a reason Carson Wentz is still out there, right? And there's a reason. Let's be real. The Colts and the Eagles both, in consecutive seasons, were like, you know what? Get out. We'll eat so much dead money, it's unfathomable. Just get out. Get out of our building. Right? Washington gave up a real pick for him. Saw him for, what, half a season? You know what? Taylor Heinecke. We're good. Bring in Taylor Heinecke. And then didn't resign him and let him go to be a backup at the Falcons. So you have three teams now in three consecutive years who are like, get out. We're done. We're done. Get out of the building. Matt Ryan, great career. He's done. It's over. He's not. Bringing in Matt Ryan to play behind that offensive line should be a federal crime. There is no world that that's going to succeed. Sometimes, you know, in life, you need to just accept reality for whatever it is. The reality for the Jets is their season's over. No matter who's playing quarterback for them, they're cooked. Now, I do think you have to move off of Zach Wilson here at some juncture because you're just going to lose the room otherwise. But bringing in Trevor Simien, putting in Tim Boyle, bringing in Carson Wentz, you're not going to the playoffs. I don't care. I don't care. Carson Wentz, yeah, sure, he'll throw 20 touchdowns. He'll also throw 15 picks. And he'll infuriate everybody in the room by like week 12. You're not going to win enough games. Your season was built around the idea that Aaron Rodgers was going to come in and elevate what was a strong group. And yes, defensively, it is a very good team. Offensively speaking, it's Garrett Wilson in what exactly? I mean, Breece Hall is a very good player at times. First of all, in week one, he was unbelievable. The last two weeks, he's done nothing. And by the way, I don't put that on Breece Hall. I put that on the fact you can't block. You can't run block. You can't pass block. Now Dwayne Brown's on IR. It's a sieve. You know what Chris Jones is going to do in this game? I mean, Chris Jones is going to basically be taking handoffs in this game. It's untenable. And that's on Joe Douglas for not fixing that offensive line or doing much to try to address it. So, it is what it is. I just think no matter who they put back there, whether it's Wilson, it's Simeon, it's Boyle. Name your random quarterback. I think they're done. And I guess my last question to you on this is, do you think this season could cost Salah his job? Or do you say, well, you know what? He's going to get a pass here because Rodgers blew his Achilles out four plays into the season. Yeah, you know, I think it might be a pair, you know, with Douglas as well, the GM. I mean, you know, he's done some good things with the draft. I get that. But like, the more you're making your points, man, the more I think about like, okay, they had Aaron Rodgers help you. Like, yeah, they're probably a playoff team, but it doesn't feel like they would have been a contender. Just kind of seeing everything now. And then without him, the glaring need of offensive line is like, you didn't do anything to fix that in the off season. Instead, you're throwing money at Dalvin Cook who could barely break tackles anymore. There's a reason why the Dolphins drew a line in the sand. Hey, you're not the same dude anymore. That's why the Vikings release them. But you went all in because you were desperate to make some noise. And let's face it, Aaron Rodgers hasn't been the best GM, you know, over his years with the Packers. Like, he kind of tends for star players and a little over the hill. And Douglas has done a good job getting young guys, but they really overlooked the offensive line. And Matt, they really got, you know, I'm going to say killed because that swap for the trade from the Packers and the Jets, they missed out on a left tackle. I haven't even been paying attention what the left tackle for the Steelers has done. But little things like that, like you go for a defensive end instead of an offensive lineman. You know, you don't, there was no, like, how do you go into Dwayne Brown and Makai Becton as your tackles? Like, if Aaron Rodgers was healthy, he was going to have been probably taking a lot of hits, asking a 39-year-old to move around the pocket to do what he used to do for many years. So that was already kind of a bad issue. So I think for as much as we want to, you know, say, hey, Robert Salah, do something, step up. You've got to help out your team and maybe your job's in the line. I think the same thing with the GM, Douglas. I get it. He's had some very memorable draft classes, but a lot of big misses. And I think sometimes, you know, it's just awkward to have, you know, the GM fires a coach and you kind of bring in a new person. Like the Chiefs, they like to kind of parry everything. Good teams parry their GM and their coaches. So I think for me, you kind of have to clean house. But then again, you're kind of essentially saying, all right, if Rodgers is ready next year, we're kind of going to try to get with somebody else. And if you're the new GM, the new coach, you're probably thinking like, do you want to go and risk all our entire season on a 40-year-old now? So it's a very tricky thing all around. So I think they might be safe, but you're probably thinking about it if you're the Jets owner.

Nicola you're very welcome to Recipes for Success. Oh thank you for having me, this is very exciting to be on this podcast. Yeah I'm so delighted and I know we were chatting before we hit record but like we've an international flavour because as a digital nomad you're recording this from France so that's brilliant to have that. That's right sunny France. Yeah we were obviously when this recording comes out the rugby world cup will be in full flow so we were just chatting about that as well but it's fantastic to have you here. Nicola obviously you and I had kind of crossed paths when I was kind of in process I suppose of exactly what you help people with which was to try to leave my corporate career to set up my own business and at the time I so appreciated your guidance and really there was so much that you stood for and your values and your energy that really just aligned so I'm honestly so honoured that you kind of are on the podcast here today and that we can have this chat. Oh no that's so lovely to hear it's so nice I'm always so delighted when I have kind of people I've helped you know who who kind of then go on and start podcasts, start businesses and I sort of see them flourish so and I really enjoyed our conversation back earlier this year and I'm just yeah just pleased to be here. Yeah and it's such a huge leap so I'm kind of curious you know like in terms of the like the leaps that you've made to be this digital nomad you know having this call from France like tell us about your own life path day Nicola. Yeah so I spent you know a 20 year career in corporate so you know like everyone you know I knew sort of growing up went to school university went on then onto a graduate role and then into the the business world and didn't really sort of see any other path than that that was laid out for me I was going to be that was going to be the path and I kind of climbed the ladder did all the things I started off in recruitment then moved up to go into learning and development which I really enjoyed and then I ended up sort of merging the two near the kind of top end of my career where I headed up learning and talent for an investment bank in London so that's kind of a very quick sort of a tour through my 20 -year career in corporate but I got to a point I'm during throughout this episode that I realized that I just didn't want to be it anymore it was frustrating me I felt like I wasn't in the right place I felt like I just had more to give in the world and I thought is this it is this really it now that this is my career even if I get to the you know very pinnacle and keep on going will I be able to you know how will I feel fulfilled and happy and joyful and I just wasn't feeling it there and I always had in the back of my mind that I wanted to have my own business one day you know it's one of those things you always say one day I will have that digital business or I will have that business and it was always like oh just one more job just one few more years in corporate and I'll go and do it and yeah and then I you know went went through a few few things happened and then I realized actually you know I am going to go and do

You can also catch those two shows, Dennis and Julie and Timeless, on the Julie Hartman YouTube page, and of course, you can download them on Apple and Spotify. It is great to be with you. To begin this morning, we're going to talk about a 12 -year -old Colorado student, who on Monday was kicked out of class for having a Gadsden flag patch on his backpack. For those who don't know what that is, the Gadsden flag patch, it is the don't tread on me flag that sometimes you see flying around the United States. According to the school district, which kicked this child out of class, that Gadsden flag is only flown in Trump 2020 flag flying white supremacist neighborhoods, which is obviously a lie, and not to mention insulting. This story, I think, provides a pretty apt synopsis of the state of American education for two reasons. First, the teacher who kicked this boy out of class falsely said that the Gadsden patch had, quote, origins with slavery. That is not true. This patch was actually made in the 1770s during the American Revolution, and the slogan don't tread on me was intended to be a message to the British that the American colonists who were rebelling against their rule were no longer going to put up with the British treading on them. That is the first thing that reveals the state of American education because it is very common nowadays for the content in schools to be taught incorrectly. Then the second reason why it says kind of everything you need to know about the state of our country's school system is that in addition to teaching the wrong content, students are being politically persecuted. There was another story in Massachusetts just about three or four months ago where a young 12 -year -old boy, Liam Morrison, was also sent home from school because he dared to wear a t -shirt that said there are only two genders. This is an ever -growing phenomenon in our country, but let's go here to this article I'm reading from American Greatness. On Monday, so two days ago, very recent, a Colorado Springs charter school removed a middle school student from class for having a Gadsden flag patch on his backpack, alleging falsely that the patch had origins with slavery. A video circulating on X features a Vanguard school administrator explaining to 12 -year -old Jaden and his mother why the boy was pulled from class. The confrontation has gone viral, and due to negative publicity, this is great news, the boy was allowed to have the patch in place when he returned to school on Tuesday. That is totally the right strategy. What happened is that Jaden and his mother were so outraged by Jaden being sent home from school that they went public with this clip. They were on Sean Hannity on Fox News. I believe that they also spoke with Tucker Carlson, or at the very least, Tucker Carlson covered this story. That is the right approach. When something insane happens, whether it's in your child's school or in your workplace, you have to go public with it. That is the only way that we are going to expose the rot of wokeism and try to get it unraveled. This past Monday, in addition to being the day that 12 -year -old Jaden was sent home from school, also marked the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington, where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered the famous I Have a Dream speech. In addition to Martin Luther King's great activism, nonviolent activism, the thing that ended the racist Jim Crow laws in the South was the fact that Americans were seeing the discrimination against black people on their televisions. The start of cable TV, or at least the popularity of cable TV in the 50s and 60s in contributing to the civil rights movement cannot be underestimated. It is because people started taking video of black people in the South being hosed down by police officers, having dogs unleashed on them. And in the court of public opinion, the Jim Crow laws and other racist measures that were present in the South no longer became acceptable because people were seeing with their own eyes how disgusting it was. That is what we need to do now in this arguably new civil rights era in our country. We need to go public, show video, send audio of a teacher berating a student. So I just thought that was interesting that on the same day that this child was sent home was the same day that Martin Luther King delivered that speech. Similar lessons can be gleaned from both of those experiences. Continuing from American greatness, this is a quote from the school administrator. The reason that we do not want the flag, the reason that we do not want the flag displayed is due to its origins with slavery and the slave trade. The Gadsden flag, the surprised mother responded to which the administrator replied the don't tread on me flag. The mother asked what would happen if Jayden removed the patch and the staffer answered flatly the bag can't go back if it's got the patch on it because we can't have that in and around other kids. They're talking about this patch like it has cooties, like if you get within five feet of it, you are going to get a highly contagious deadly flu. We can't have this around other children. Lest they get infected with the imaginary bigotry of the Gadsden flag patch, the mother shot back. Yeah, it has nothing to do with slavery, I love this. The mother is teaching the teacher. That's like the Revolutionary War patch that was displayed when we were fighting the British. Thank you Jayden's mother for teaching basic elementary history to an elementary school teacher. The administrator responded, I am here to enforce the policy that was provided by the district. This is such cowardice. It's not me who's doing this, even though I'm the one who sent the child home. It's a policy. I'm just hiding behind the policy. The mother and son pointed out that other Vanguard kids, Vanguard is the school in Colorado, are allowed to have other various patches on their backpacks. That's exactly right. I bet that there are students at that school who have come in with Black Lives Matter patches or pride patches or even t -shirts with those symbols. Why is that okay? Arguably Black Lives Matter, not just arguably, I mean it's pretty evident, Black Lives Matter is far more offensive of a flag than the Gadsden flag. Black Lives Matter is a Marxist organization which advocated for uprooting the Western prescribed notions of the nuclear family. The Black Lives Matter organization has accumulated billions and billions and billions of dollars that has gone absolutely nowhere to places that would actually help black people. They purported to raise this money for bail funds and for scholarships and for public school funding. What we have found out is that it has actually gone into the pockets of the founders so that they could buy $6 million mansions here in Los Angeles. Those billions of dollars were also used to, actually they were used for bail funds, but they were used to bail out violent rioters who set buildings aflame. Those riots in 2020 killed 25 people, many of whom were black. But the Black Lives Matter flag is okay. I bet you there would be no issue, but the Gadsden flag, oh yes, that is bigotry. How about the pride flag? You know, pride no longer represents tolerance of those with different sexual identification. It a represents movement that seeks to condone the genital mutilation of young children in the name of so -called gender affirming care. Is that offensive? Would that flag be allowed in schools? I bet you it would. 1 -8 Prager, 776 -1877 -243 -777 -6. Back in a moment. Precious metals, it's imperative that you buy from a trustworthy and transparent dealer that protects your best interests. Triple G has notified me that we actually have a clip of this recording of the administrator telling 12 -year -old Jaden, the Colorado student, that he could not wear the Gadsden flag patch on his backpack. I just want to play a minute of the video for you so that you can hear this. And for those of you who are watching the show on the Salem News Channel, you will see that this boy is so polite. He's clean cut. He has a nice shirt on and he's sitting there, you know, with his hands clasped together and he's just nodding and taking it in, incredibly dignified and polite. He didn't say anything like, come on, this is ridiculous. What the heck is going on here? He handled that with such class. His mother should be proud. Let's hear a minute of this clip. Thank you. Do they know what the Gadsden flag is? It's a historical flag. So there, the reason that they do not want the flag, the reason we do not want the flag is due to its origins with slavery and slave trade. That is what was, that's the reason behind the Gadsden flag. The don't tread on me, which is the Gadsden flag. Okay, so he, what's going to happen if he doesn't take it all? He, I mean, he is able to go, I was actually just telling him, like, I was upset that he was missing so much school. I'm like, ah! So I asked him, can he just take his stuff out of his bag and go back to class? Like, I just want him to go back to class. The bag can't go back. It's got a patch on it, because we can't have that in and around other kids. So that's what I was trying, and then he said you were close, so I was like, oh, okay. It's amazing that this administrator is saying, you know, I hate that he's missing school. He's missing school because of you, my friend, or not my friend, my enemy. All right, reading continuing from American Greatness, the head of the school told Jaden's mother that the patch was, quote, disruptive to the classroom environment, and that the boy was welcome to return to class on Tuesday, but only if he removed the patch, okay? Because of its creator's history and because it is commonly flown alongside Trump 2020 flags, the Confederate battle flag, and other white supremacist flags, some may now see the Don't Tread On Me flag as a symbol of intolerance and hate or even racism. Oh, gosh. We could spend the entire three hours on that quote. Okay, so many lies in that one sentence. But they're saying that Trump 2020 flags are white supremacist flags. How is that not political persecution? So half this country are white supremacists, really? And then I love this line here. Some may see it as a symbol of intolerance, hate, or even racism. Welcome to the tyranny of the minority. If one person is made to feel uncomfortable by that flag, the entire school has to go along with that person's preferences. This child has to be sent home. As the administrator said, he loses out on learning because this one person may, in a hypothetical world, be uncomfortable. So this is interesting because let's look at these four adjectives that were used to describe this patch, disruptive, intolerant, hateful, and racist. We live in a world where there is such a profound assault on truth. And what comes alongside that assault on truth is an assault on the objective meaning of words, because that's basically another way of saying the truth, that words hold a objective, truthful meaning. You know, when people say, well, what's the harm of calling a man a woman or a woman a man? What's the harm of saying words are violent? This is the harm, because when words lose their objective meaning, the rules and the standards that are associated with those words also lose their objective meaning, and then all havoc breaks loose. There is this standard in American public education. It was established in a Supreme Court case in 1969. The case is called Tinker versus Des Moines, Iowa School District. And it dealt with the fact that students came to class wearing Vietnam War or anti -Vietnam War wristbands, and they were asked to remove those wristbands. And this case went all the way up to the Supreme Court, and the court established what's called the Tinker standard of regulating speech in schools, because they had to balance the fact that sometimes it is necessary and even good to regulate speech in schools for disciplinary reasons, but also respecting the fact that students have First Amendment rights. So they established this standard, which essentially says that students have a right to express political speech, wear shirts, wear backpack stickers, wear wristbands. As long as that speech is not disruptive to the classroom and does not infringe on the rights of other students to learn. So here we see that this school district in Colorado is saying that Jaden's backpack patch is disruptive. And so if we are now calling a backpack patch disruptive, then it means that they can lawfully tell Jaden to go home and get rid of it, because the Tinker standard says that they have a right to censor speech that is disruptive. Once the objective meaning of words change, then that paves the way for the objective meaning of rules and standards associated with those rules to change. Another story that we will cover in this hour is this Spanish soccer league craziness where the head, I believe it was, of the Spanish soccer league went up and kissed one of the female players after the Spanish female soccer team won the World Cup. This kiss, which by the way I do not condone, you shouldn't kiss someone if it is unwanted or without their consent, but this kiss is now being called sexual assault. And this man who planted the unwanted kiss on the female soccer player is under criminal investigation for sexual assault, which in Spain, as in the United States, carries prison time as a potential punishment. Another perfect example of the way that if we change words, then we change the laws associated with those words. Because now if a kiss is called sexual assault, then you can be prosecuted or brought to trial for alleged sexual assault if you kiss someone. This is very scary. That is why conservatives make such a fuss when words are used improperly, because it leads to a slippery slope. And by the way, this is going to affect all of us. There are going to be many people, we're already seeing it happen, who are going to be fired from their jobs or sent home from school for supposedly being disruptive or racist when they're not. We have calls. We'll take them in the next segment. 1 -8 Prager 776 -1877 -243 -7776. I'm eager to hear your reactions. Back in a moment. We are discussing the fact that this 12 -year -old boy in Colorado was sent home from school on Monday for wearing a Don't Tread On Me patch on his backpack. The school said that he had to remove it. In order to return to school, he and his mother went public with a recording of the administrator admonishing him. And the public outrage over this incident led to the school allowing Jaden to come back with the patch on his backpack. I should also note that the school announced that they would be canceling Parents Night due to quote, unforeseen circumstances. Clearly, they do not want to face some questions about this incident. Let's go to Steve in Chicago, Illinois. Hi, Steve. Thanks for calling in. Yeah, Julie, thanks a lot. So, here's where I'm going to part company with you, okay? Whatever happened at School of Colorado sounds ridiculous, okay? But you beat it like a dead horse a thousand times to make it sound as if this is commonplace. You talk about transgender issues, and Dennis Prager does it nonstop. And what you do, and the way to deceive people, okay, which is what I think you and Dennis do, is to omit from your discussions and your narrative other information that would make what you're saying completely false, okay? What is that information that we are omitting? Well, I'll tell you. I'll tell you. You guys beat this transgender drum like they are going to take over the world and destroy civilization. The fact is - When have we ever said those words? That they're going to take over the world and destroy civilization? I listen to Dennis all the time. It's incessant. And the fact is, is there are very few transgender people relative to the population, okay? That's true. Most of us will never meet a transgender person. The few people who are transgender are afflicted with a horrible psychiatric illness, okay? They deserve empathy. No one is forcing them to undergo any transgender hormonal treatment. I'm going to pause you there, Steve. I don't mean to cut you off, but just for the sake of time, I'm going to pause you and I'd like to continue a discussion, but I have to cut in. You are right, Steve, that there is a relatively low number of transgender individuals relative to the population, which is why I ask the question, why is teaching that gender is non -binary and fluid becoming so mainstream if this is so rare? And I encourage you, Steve, and anyone listening who may agree with his disagreement of Dennis' position and my position, I encourage you to read the California Department of Education codes, the Arizona Department of Education codes, New Jersey, Michigan. Many states, blue states around the country, in these codes have things that say that you should teach kids that gender is non -binary. In New Jersey, they say that you should not refer to children using gendered pronouns. Here in Los Angeles, the LAUSD, which has about 450 schools under its jurisdiction, has monthly Rainbow Club meetings where students as young as four years old are subjected to drag queen story hour. This is not a fringe thing. This is very mainstream, and they are also taught these radical gender codes. I agree that people who are experiencing gender dysphoria deserve empathy. That is why I, and I feel comfortable speaking for Dennis, that is why Dennis and I are so disgusted. And that is the word disgusted by this movement, which is saying, legitimizing the fact that it is normal to not feel your gender. These individuals deserve empathy, they deserve therapy, but what they do not deserve is being subjected to doctors and students who are saying, yeah, you're 13 years old or you're 15 years old and you don't feel like your gender, here are some puberty blockers, and by the way, you should have your breasts cut off. This is happening at the Duke University Medical School, Medical Hospital, excuse me, Boston Children's Hospital. This is happening all over the country. I'd like to give Steve an opportunity to respond. We may have to go into the next segment, Steve. We don't have much time. OK. Yeah. What you're saying about people having their breasts, women having their breasts cut off and hormonal blockers, again, it's a misleading narrative you're giving. OK. No, no, no female is going to breast cut off without her consent, without substantial psychiatric involvement. OK. It is not substantial psychiatric involvement. That is not true. You know what? You know what? I've studied this issue. It is true. As have I. As have I. It is very common for these kids. OK, I'm sorry. We're going to have to continue into the next segment. Steve, stay on. We'll pick it up. Back in a moment.

"Any excuse to throw down some James Brown, but I got to thinking I wanted to make a point here. I know why you're doing this. Yeah, James Brown is not what you would call a movement conservative, and James Brown saw Jim Crow in his face for decades and loved this country. Mike loved this country. So I don't know, man, not everybody has to. I'm thinking Living in America is not on Megan Rapinoe's playlist. Or maybe it shouldn't, well, and maybe Living in America shouldn't be on her long -term bucket list of plans. I'm not a love it or leave it person. You get to live here and hate the country. It's part of your free speech. But doggone it, is anybody mystified why somebody who hates this country and tries to jam radical trans ideology down our throats, why it's a little harder for people to root for that team, it broke my heart, Mike, to see them lose. I wanted them to win, but to see them lose and then to have people just joyous, just celebrating, not just our American loss in the Women's World Cup, but because it was largely because of her shanking a penalty kick. It ain't the way we should be. Okay, it's not the way we should be, really. So let me put you on the spot a little bit, my dear friend. Sure. Are you joyous over seeing a conservative, successful attempt to get the attention of Bud Light or Target or Bed Bath and Beyond? Enormously so. So it's the same thing. I mean, it's the exact same thing. Except it's not because this is my country. What country is Bud Light in? But Bud Light is not my country. The men and women who wear our uniform in international competitions. That is our country on the world stage. I call BS. The Women's Cup, the US World Soccer Cup is not my country. Bud Light's my country. There's a whole bunch of hardworking men and women who are drivers, who are distributors, mom and pops, who have been decimated by the Bud Light pushback. And guess what? We sit back and we find that joyous because finally, whoa, companies are getting the message. And that's an American company. So all I would humbly submit is, if you're as... I know, draw your tears. I know. I know. You know, I mean, come on. It's soccer and nothing wrong with that. But here's what I find even more intriguing than the joyous response to the women's team losing. After the big loss at the World Cup, Rapinoe gave an interview, of course, gave interviews after the game was over. And she was asked what her favorite memory of playing for the US soccer team was. Do you know what her answer was, Mark? I would think it might be representing our country, wearing the flag, making my country men and women proud of us on the world stage. I'm guessing that was not it. I'm not kidding you, equal pay. The memory of fighting for equal pay so that women could make as much money for his men in this, of course, bigoted, offensive, awful. And she didn't say that. Those are my words. But she did say her answer was about equal pay. It had nothing to do with playing on the field. It had nothing to do with representing the United States of America. Or even teammates making these friends for life and bonding with them in an effort to bring... The failure to establish equal pay. That's her favorite memory. So I think we can all pretty much agree, and I hate to get personal, she's a pretty reprehensible character. She just is. And it's too bad that she became the face of the US women's team so that now millions and millions of people were delighted to see her shank the penalty kick that she could have been the hero and instead she lost. Would you kindly address the other one I brought up of where our minds and hearts have been broken a little bit? Can we start with the notion that if anybody sees a meme of George Floyd with crab legs coming off him and it's under the knee, like under the sea from Sebastian the Little Mermaid, that that's disgusting and that to even like it is unbelievably stupid. So far so good? So far so good. NASCAR driver Noah Gregson did exactly that. He's been indefinitely suspended. He should not lose his career. His apology should mean something However, dude, how stupid do you have to be? Are you with me on that? I guess I am. I mean, it's like you said, he's a 25 year old guy, stupidly liking something, but you also have to be pretty careful. If you're in the public sphere, you better be careful. You got people watching you. You got people following your every move. You've got a public persona. I mean, I know you're careful. I'm careful. And it's not hard. If I saw that on somebody's Instagram, I don't have to stop and think about it for 10 minutes. Like, huh, should I like that? In South Lake, we had a couple of cops fired because they got up on a whiteboard, no pun intended, and drew a swastika during a recruiting meeting. How stupid do you have to be? So, I mean, it's just dumb stuff. And you don't, I mean, how people don't follow the, like you said, the little, does it pass the smell test? Is this something that could get me in trouble? I mean, if you're in there now, you and I are in a little bit of a different world than a NASCAR driver, but certainly a NASCAR driver has the ability to say that, Hey, I'm going to like something here. This could get me, you know, get me some headaches. And in line with that, I got to ask you about the, what's the Dallas express? Is that, is that part of the Dallas Morning News? It's a no, no, Lord, no, no, no, no, no. Oh, is it conservative? It is by all means. It is a, it is a news site of conservative value. Oh, okay. Cause I've never seen it, but I, the article came across my desk today about sign, people have noticed over at the American Airlines Center in Dallas that a funny take on American Airlines woke policies and they've gone woke. I mean, American Airlines is all about diversity, equity and inclusion and all that. And so they've got fake signs up, focusing on the big high profile boxing match between Jake Paul and Nate Diaz. The signs were located in different places around the arena in Victory Park and other parts of downtown Dallas. Some of the signs said things like, welcome to woke American Airlines. My pronouns are he, she, it, lost baggage.

The Bill Simmons Podcast
A highlight from Part 1: USAs World Cup Collapse, Basebrawls, Jets Optimism, Life in The G-League and The OC 20 Years Later | with Gabe York and Zoe Simmons
"Coming up, an unexpected two -part podcast cameo from me. It's next. We're also brought to you by the Ringer Podcast Network, where we turned over Sean Fennesey and Amanda Dobbins' big picture feed to Brian Raftery. It's a narrative podcast called, Do We Get to Win This Time? How Hollywood Made the Vietnam War. You can find it on the big picture starting on Tuesday. And it is an idea I'm really excited about because it came from a class that I did as a senior in college in 1992. Me and my friend Horgs talked a movies professor into doing a special Vietnam War movies class where we watched basically every Vietnam War movie that had been made up to 1992 and then tried to write a big picture term paper about it. And the thing that was really fascinating about that class and something that stuck with me was just that whole concept of Hollywood reinventing the entire Vietnam experience under the premise of, Did We Get to Win This Time? So we got Brian involved and he turned the idea into an awesome, awesome podcast. I even went and dug up the term paper that I wrote 31 years ago. I thought it was gonna be horrendous. It wasn't bad. I was kind of proud of myself, retroactively 31 years later. Anyway, Do We Get to Win This Time? How Hollywood Made the Vietnam War. It is gonna be in the big picture podcast starting on Tuesday. So that's one piece of business. Second, new rewatchables on Monday night. It is the 300th movie that we've done. It's a special one. We're doing National Lampoon's Vacation. It was time. Meet Chris Ryan, Van Lathan. Yeah, and Van was pushing for it because we wanted to do Christmas Vacation during the holidays and you can't do Christmas Vacation. If we do National Lampoon's Vacation, super fun. Can't wait for you to listen to it. And we'll be running the video at some point on the YouTube channel, youtube .com slash Bill Simmons, where we put up a whole bunch of rewatchables podcasts in case you missed it. Boogie Nights is up there now. Goodfellas, Independence Day, just a slew of them. So if you're bored and you wanna throw on some rewatchables and watch us make fun of each other, there you go. Last but not least, I don't wanna say this is the most important, but it's certainly the thing I spent the most time on. Our documentary that we did about the G League with Religion of Sports and Ringer Films, we combined, and it is premiering on Tuesday, August 8th. It is called Destination NBA, A G League Odyssey. It's really good. We immersed ourselves into the G League season. We followed Scoot Henderson, Gabe York, Ryan Terrell, Mason Jones, and Denzel Valentine. And the big question was, what is this world like? What's it like to be in the G League? And I am really proud of where we landed with it. And we even have, much later in this podcast, Gabe York is gonna come on. He's one of the five that we followed, and he's gonna tell us what it's like as you're holding on to your dream in your late 20s. We try not to spoil the doc too much with Gabe, but I really liked him. He's probably the guy that jumps out of the doc in the most sympathetic way. So look forward for you to watch it. It is prime video, Tuesday, August 8th, Destination NBA. A G League Odyssey. You love basketball, just watch it, it's good. So there you go. This is gonna be part one of a two -part podcast. Gabe is coming up later. My daughter Zoe Simmons is coming up later because we did a whole bunch of OC stuff on the Prestige TV podcast. I was even on two of the episodes. But I ended up watching season one of the OC. And my daughter was watching with us and loved the show. And she was born a year and a half after it premiered. So me and her broke down season one from the perspective of what is it like when somebody 18 watches the OC, a show that is now two decades old. The anniversary was actually August 6th. And what she liked, what she didn't like, what people aren't doing anymore for her kind of audience. And we just dove into it. So that is much later. First, coming out of the gate, I'm gonna open a six -pack because we have a lot to discuss over the past three weeks, all the stuff I missed. So that's gonna be part one. And then part two, which is gonna go up later on Sunday night, me and Rossello doing this evergreen idea that we've always wanted to do. And this seemed like the perfect time because nothing's happening in basketball. So that's gonna be part two later tonight. Part one coming up. First, our friends from ProJax. What's up? All right, I'm taping this. It is Sunday afternoon Pacific time. And I'm gonna open a six -pack. There's a bunch of stories in sports and culture that happened over the last three weeks. I was just writing stuff down, things that would have been fun for podcast segments. I was just like, man, I wish I could have given my thoughts on that. Just gonna rip through them. So I have six and then maybe a couple bonus ones at the end. The first one, the biggest one, was the US women's soccer team, which lost today in penalty kicks to Sweden, scored zero goals in the last two games, scored one goal in the last three games, and that was off a corner kick. You could feel from the beginning that something was off with this team. It was all the ways. You knew in a checklist of what are the red flags? There were just red flags galore. And the only person who was really calling it out in time over and over again was Carli Lloyd, who was doing the Fox studio show. And she was the one person in the horror movie who knows the house is haunted. And everyone's like, shut up. You're not being patriotic. You just wish you were still on the team. She was right. She was right from the get -go. This team, you could see it before the Vietnam game when it was like, look at the new Nike suits. Look at these new suits. And they're all like styling as they head into the locker room. And they're running commercials. And every player has a commercial. There's players who've never done anything of that commercials. And the vibe was just off. They only beat Vietnam three -nothing in a bracket where goal differential was gonna be super -duper important. And that was a huge red flag. And we did the usual thing that we've been doing since 2019, 2015 of, oh, well, they almost scored a bunch of times. Oh, well, if that had gone in or some bad luck. There was just an arrogance to this team. Like they were carrying themselves like the defending champs, the same way like the Denver Nuggets would go into next NBA season. Like we're the champs. I was like, yeah, you are the champs because the season just happened. The World Cup happened four years ago. Everyone's four years older or wasn't on the team. And you could see they wanted to build the team instead of around the identity of, here are these new up and coming awesome stars that are gonna be in your life. They were really latching on to Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe. Alex Morgan's 34, Megan Rapinoe's 37. I think one of the differences between the discourse with women's sports and men's sports is that in men's sports, we grasp for angles. And if somebody is disappointing in some way, we really go nuts. Like think of how James Harden's been treated over the last 12 years. So he's one of the 35 best players ever and has taken just an incredible amount of shit. Oh my God, the playoffs, look at his game log. Oh, he choked again. Alex Morgan, who scored twice in her first two games in the World Cup in 2011, she scored once in 2015 in seven games. She scored six times in 2019, five against Thailand in a game that was 13 to nothing, one in the other six, and then scored nothing in the four games this time around. If you take away that Thailand game, she has scored two goals in the last 17 World Cup games. This is the striker. This is the one who's supposed to be the most dangerous player in the field, who's supposed to produce goals. And she hasn't produced goals since the mid 2010s on the national level. And yet it's Alex Morgan. She was supposed to be the next one. We got to keep propping her up and pretending she's a superstar. She's not a superstar. She's really honestly never been a superstar. She certainly hasn't been as impactful as somebody like Abby Wambach was. So you have the team built around her. She's got to play. They play her the entire game, game two, the entire game, game three. She plays like 95 minutes in this game today, and they don't score goals. And the announcers just won't talk about it. It's like being on an AYSO team that your kid's on, and the coach is playing somebody at striker, and everyone's like, why don't they play Sally at striker instead of the coach's daughter? It's like, oh, you know, the coach's daughter. She's got to play there. So you have that, and then you have Rapinoe, who's 37 years old, who's just, unfortunately, great career, legendary, true legend, huge big time player. And when you hit your late 30s in soccer, it's a wrap. She looked like Yudana Rapinoe, not big Rapinoe, and comes out for the last 25 minutes of this game and can't do anything, and then misses the penalty kick. That's the thing. If you're beholden to past performance, you can't expect to succeed in the moment. And I did feel like, what were this team's strengths? Speed. They had Sophia Smith, who really was bad the last three games on the left wing. Like, she just, she couldn't even connect passes. Trinity Rodman, who's a beast. Lynn Williams, who's super fast and athletic and had some really nice moments the last two games. And then Alyssa Thompson, who's the prodigy, who's the, you know, potential tiger or LeBron of this team. 18 years old, best high school player I've ever had. They won't even throw her out there. But this was not a team that could connect passes. They weren't, like, especially creative. The coaching was just bizarre, and we'll never see that guy again. But it was like, the one thing they did have was speed, especially the forwards, and they just threw that away. And Alex, you know, couldn't do anything. So now they're out. It's the most disappointing finish of the last 25 years for the women's team. And it reminds me in a lot of ways that 2004 Olympic basketball team that we had, the USA team. And I tweeted this, I think after the second game, because that was a team that was between eras, like this one was, where all the best players on that 2014, the ones in their primes, weren't that good, except for Duncan. And Duncan was completely banged up. He'd played so many NBA games the last couple of years. I think his knee was hurt. But, you know, it was Iverson and Marbury. The talent, it just was a between eras. And you had guys on the bench, like LeBron and Carmelo and Wade, who were four years away. Kobe wasn't on the team. And it just felt generationally, like we caught that team in the wrong time. The style was wrong. And we learned all these lessons and we moved on. 2008, we win. There's a documentary about it. But this team felt like it was between eras. The Alex Morgan, Rapinoe era, which was basically done. And then you have this era coming up with Rodman and Sophia Smith and Alyssa. And, you know, it's just four years from now, we'll probably be fine. But they need to re -imagine this. And I think if you're gonna learn any lesson from this, it doesn't matter what happened four years ago. It's the World Cup. It matters what's happening now. So that's one thing. Second thing. So Jaylen Brown gets this huge contract, $304 million. Some people seem surprised that it was that much money. Chris Ryan even took a shot at it when we did our library watchables. Hurt my feelings a tiny bit. Mainly because I didn't really have a comeback. Rosella did something on his podcast about how this actually makes sense. This amount of money, when you think of how the salary cap has climbed just since 2015, and it's gonna keep climbing. And there's this world you can go into where you think about just how much everything is gonna cost in the NBA four or five years from now, that Jaylen Brown at $70 million isn't actually gonna be that intimidating. The same way we feel about Tobias Harris for $40 million now, or Klay Thompson, $40 million now. Yeah, you don't really wanna pay $40 million for Klay Thompson, but you can survive it. And I think that's gonna be where the Celtics land with Jaylen. Here's why they had to do it. They're the favorites on FanDuel right now. They're plus 470. The thing that made them the most special and has made them the most special for the last five, six years is the Jaylen Brown -Jason Tatum combo. They've been incredibly successful. The team itself has made five conference finals in the last seven years. They came super close to making the finals last year. I have now gone into the what if zone with that Celtics team where what if Tatum doesn't hurt his ankle on the first play? Do we beat Miami? They were close is the point. And when you're that close, you can't fuck around. This is not Bradley Beal resigning with Washington for 50 million a year when everybody knows you can't get past the eight seed with Bradley Beal. This is different. You're trying to win a title. You're trying to keep all your optionality open. The thing that's a little scary about it, nobody seems to totally know if he wants to be in Boston. This is something we've discussed on this pod. It's been floating out there. The fact that he wasn't happy about landing in the Kevin Durant trade rumors a couple years ago. And just in general, where the league is now, where as Woj called it, the transfer portal, where people get their contract first and then they decide what they want to do. And I think for the Celtics, they know they bought themselves a year with Jalen and they are still one of the favorites to win the title. And a lot of it's going to depend on health and Porzingis. You could also, I don't want to make the case, but you might be able to make the case that Brown had a fucked up hand last year. Cause he did. Cause he sliced his hand open. It was bleeding even during the Philly series. And maybe that was why his ball handling went sideways. Listen, you got to do the contract. It just breaks your brain. I remember a million years ago, Sports Illustrated and Inside Sports say every year they would have like a salary issue. And they would talk about these guys are making $1 million a year. And it seemed like so much money. And now where we're heading with the money, plus the NBA is the meteorites deal. The moment any of these guys becomes unhappy, what do you do? Because you're paying Jalen, let's say you're paying him 55 million a year. Plus he is the trade kicker, which the team has to pay. Right? So if he decides after a year, you know what? I'm tired of being the scapegoat. Everybody loves Jason. I'm like the middle brother of this team. I want my own team. I want to go to Houston or Atlanta. You got to trade me. What are the Celtics going to do? On top of who would want out, you don't have a lot of options and you turn into what the situation Portland's in with Deem. And then on top of it, it's so much money. It's impossible to get any sort of a fair trade for the guy. So they had to do it. And optionality the that comes out of it is frightening. I remember in the early 2000s, when the first time the contracts kind of went nuts and you would see that people get signing like six -year, $100 million deals, seven -year, $110 million deals. And the Celtics really, really stupidly traded for Vin Baker. One of the worst trades of the last 30 years for Boston Sports. A trade so bad, you knew it instantaneously. And I wrote a piece that you can probably find somewhere in the ESPN archives about it, where I compared it to the end of Thelma Louise when Harvey Keitel is running toward the cliff trying to stop the car from going off the cliff. That's how I thought about the Vin Baker trade when it happened. Then it happens and you just had this salary albatross. It's a salary cap league. And you're like, wow, we just threw away 20 % of our salary cap on this trade. There's going to be a couple of those that are just franchise killers. And whether that leads to them bringing back the amnesty clause, who knows? I wish, I've made this, I've had this idea before. I wish that they had a rule in there that if you drafted a guy, every year that he stays in the team, you get rewarded in some way from a salary cap luxury tax type thing, right? So Jaylen was 2016 draft, this would be his eighth year. Maybe like after the seventh year, because that's usually like the third contract. The guy stays in the team, maybe each year after that, he doesn't count for 2 % of the luxury tax, up to like 30%, something like that. The point is the Warriors should be rewarded for keeping Draymond and Klay and Curry from a tax standpoint, that they were that smart to draft those guys, keep those guys together. They should be incentivized, the players, to want to stay with them because there's some luxury tax stuff that the team gets. And the team should want to be incentivized to take care of those guys because it's also beneficial to them. I just wish they figured out some version of that rule. Anyway, Jaylen was always signing for $304 million. Talk to me in a year, I'll keep my fingers crossed. Next thing, I missed the running back pity party. This was crazy. The running backs all got together and they were really upset about how much money they made. And I don't know what to tell you. There's too many running backs and not enough running back spots. And I don't know if you're trying to build a responsible salary cap team in a collectively bargained era, why would you spend $30 million over two years on a running back unless the running back was awesome? Nobody even wants to spend more than $11 million on running back. So I knew that this was crazy when Damien Harris, who was on the Patriots, who I thought was really good. He's maybe not an elite running back, but a good running back, right? Somebody that if he had been on the Chiefs, he easily could have started for the Chiefs. And he signed with the Bills for like one year, 2 million. And when that happened, combined with Pacheco on the Chiefs' seventh round pick, they won the Super Bowl with him. It's just, this position's devalued. I work on this player, I've been actually working on it the last couple of weeks where I try to rank the players for blue chippers, red chippers, pink chippers, honorable mention, and have this whole point system. And so quarterbacks, Mahomes, who's the alpha of that position, he's worth 10 points. And you could even see this in the point spread. If Mahomes gets hurt, the Chiefs are 10 points, nine points, whatever, less than what they would be as a favorite. They'd switch to an underdog. And you go on down the line. Jalen Hurts, I had him as an eight. I had Joe Burrow as a nine. And you go on, you keep going down, and it's like, Geno Smith's probably a two. But then you look at some of the other positions and you have to value them the same way the salary cap values them and teams value them. Guards, they aren't worth that much. Running backs, sorry, they're not worth that much. My top running back was three points because ultimately running backs don't really matter that much. In the last like five, six years, I would say Derrick Henry was the only running back that you could definitively say, this guy almost won the Super Bowl. Like he was that good. Other than that, you know, it's plug and play, quarterbacks, it's receivers. It's much harder to find the number one receiver. Every team needs one. It's much more tangible if you don't have the number one receiver. And it's much easier to just kind of scrap together the running back position. And yet people went nuts about this. We ironically had this in the NBA with centers. You know, Vucevic, who's a really good offensive player, he signed for 60 million for three years, 20 million a year. And Jaylen Brown's going to make $52 million a year. Is Jaylen Brown two and a half times better than Vucevic? No, it's just, he plays a way more important position. You can only play one center at a time. You can patch together the center position. You could have like Isaiah Hartenstein for $8 million. You could, you know, get Robert Williams for 16. You don't need to spend what Phoenix did on Eaton where they're paying $8 and $30 million a year at center. And you don't really need to do that. You kind of feel obligated if you don't want to lose the asset. But I think the NBA is going to go this way eventually where unless it is Jokic or Embiid, the center or Bam Adebayo, it's a bonus. You could argue that was already an overpay. They gave him a huge extension. The Lakers just gave Anthony Davis $60 million a year as an extension. I would argue that's a little frightening. I feel like you could patch together the center position. What really matters in basketball is having the creator. And this was the argument five years ago with Luka versus Eaton for the number one pick. And I made this argument. It was like, go look at who wins the NBA title every year. It's always the people who have the creator. There's somebody who's on the perimeter of the ball in their hands. Even Jokic, who wins the title this year, he was a creator. He's not a typical center, right? He's basically their point guard on offense who could post up. So this happened in the NBA. Nobody went nuts. And this is happening in football. And is this where football is. If you want to make the most amount of money playing in the NFL, I don't know why you would be a running back. I would be a cornerback. I would be a wide receiver. I'd be an edge rusher. But if you're a running back, you know your shelf life's probably like five, six years. You know the money is not totally gonna be there. Now they're in this, like you have people like JK Dobbins, like, I might hold out. It's like, really? You didn't barely even play in the field. Barkley said he was gonna hold out. And then, you know, probably looked at it. And the money for Barkley is like 10, 11 million. That's unfortunately the market. So you can't fix this. They collectively bargained it. And until we get to the next CBA, I don't know how you fix it. I thought it was really weird. It felt like people had nothing to talk about. And it was like, ah, let's feel bad for running backs. All right, let's take a break. And then I'm gonna finish the rest of the six pack. All right, picking up on the six pack. We're gonna talk a little more football. I talked about the running back pity party. This is a different kind of party. The Jets optimism, which has just been stunning to me over the course of July. I have Jets fans in my life. These are people that usually have no hope and are very reminiscent of the pre -2004 Red Sox fans, just assuming the worst at all times. Why does God hate us? All that stuff. And now they have this crazy optimism based on the fact that they brought in Aaron Rodgers, who I did not think was very good last year, just throwing that out there. I wouldn't say he was bad, but for Rodgers, he was bad. I mean, we thought Rodgers was, he was the reigning MVP and we thought he was still one of the five or six most impactful players in the league. And I don't wanna read stats to you for the next six minutes, but deep balls, he was bad. Turnovers, he was bad. Leadership, he was bad. And the case for Rodgers coming back would be, well, he's gonna be rejuvenated. The Jets, New York City. This is his team. He got away from Green Bay. He's got Hackett back. I get it, but he's also at an age where we've really only seen Tom Brady succeed at a high, high level at the age that Rodgers is at. I was trying to figure it out. I have my QB ratings and I had, you know, the top tier is Mahomes and Burrow and Allen and Herbert and Hertz. Those have to be the top five. Then it drops off and it's Lamar Jackson and Lawrence. And then Rodgers, probably a hair underneath him with a chance to play himself up with those guys. But from what we saw last year, I'm not ready to put him there. So he's the 10th best quarterback in the league, probably. 10th or ninth best quarterback in the league, probably. Well, they have no offensive line. And I don't understand why people keep glossing over this where it's like, hey, Rodgers and Garrett Wilson, he's one of the best receivers in the league and Breece Hall's going to come back and the defense is really good. And it's like, yeah, the offensive line is terrible. Beckton and Dwayne Brown, sure tackles again. And then you have Robert Salah as the coach, who I cannot say I thought that Jets were crisply coached last year. Whatever he was doing with Zach Wilson was insane. No idea if that guy's even a decent coach. So I'm already worried about your offensive line, the age of your quarterback, and the competency of your coach. And that's before we get into the hard knocks curse, because for some reason they're doing hard knocks, the incredible Super Bowl hype already. And then we have the schedule, which is the AFC East has just got screwed by the schedules this year. The Jets, just for quarterbacks in 17 games, they got to play Josh Allen twice, they got to play Mahomes, Herbert, Hertz, Dak Prescott, and Deshaun Watson. And then they also have to play Miami twice. We'll see what we get out of two this year. And then a really good Pats defense. And then Denver, who knows, they might be rejuvenated. So Danny Dimes, they have to play him. It is a brutal schedule, so you have that. And then on top of everything else, you're the Jets. I was there with the Red Sox before 2004, and this is probably just as bad, where you just think the worst possible things can happen is all the time. You're not allowed to have optimism when you're Jets fans. You can be cautiously optimistic. There was an entire Curb Your Enthusiasm episode once, season 10, episode seven, about being a Jets fan. And it was called, I think, the ugly section. Nick Kroll was the maitre d'. And part of the episode was about, he would put these people in different sections of the restaurant, depending on how attractive they were. But there was this other plot, Larry's buddy who loved the Jets, kills himself. And Larry becomes convinced it was because of the Jets, that the Jets killed his friend. This was only a couple of years ago. So now they get Aaron Rodgers, and everything's good. And they're gonna win the Super Bowl. I don't see it, guys. I don't wanna step on my football stuff too much, but I'd be shocked. And Lombardi points out the defense that everybody's ready to compare to the 85 Bears. Lombardi said they had two turnovers over the last eight games last season. So that means something too. I am dubious, to say the least. If you're gonna tell me a tortured franchise actually turns it around this year, I want a tortured franchise that doesn't have expectations. Because the Lions are another one. Everybody's ready to put them in the Super Bowl or close. And the only case for them is just pretty explosive offense. They couldn't stop anybody last year. And the NFC is terrible. But that's another one where is that a fan base that should be super excited and have a ton of hype? The one that's kind of lurking that fits in this group is the Browns. Because the Browns are actually super talented. They're in a winnable division. Burroughs already hurt. And I think they're four to one to win the AFC North on FanDuel, something like that. Their over -under is, I think it climbed up.

"So, what do you think? Could we possibly have two straight years in a row of the bond market being down? Last year was down 12 .5%. We're about flat for the year this year, which makes it pretty interesting. And who would have thought that the equity market would have done, would have performed as well as it has been? I mean, that's been the real shocker, I think. Can I put my hand up? That would be cheating. We do this every day. The next hour of Bloomberg Daybreak Asia begins right now. Hope you're well And say I hope you had a good weekend I've got a good Wednesday It's very hard for me not to root for American teams in world competitions it never even occurred to me that I would not a Who will I root for if not be how could that be I love my country But I I hope the women's soccer team loses I'm not only not rooting for them. I hope they lose They have contempt for me and my country so in turn I have contempt for them It's not a complex issue. I Don't root for you just because you are American and Stand for the opposite of everything that I treasure about being an American So this though the story is worldwide, but here it is from the Daily Mail the British website US women spark fury with another listless rendition of the star -spangled banner at the World Cup as Holland's players proudly sing their anthem with arms wrapped around each other so when I was in Europe last month, I wrote like a column my weekly column about how much better I felt in Europe now to be honest that was Eastern Europe But this would be an example We Were talking about the Netherlands which is a pretty woke country I might add But apparently it's women's soccer team Loves their country more than our soccer team Women's soccer team loves their country The Dutch were involved in colonialism and imperialism and all that stuff But apparently the women of the Dutch Soccer team do love their country Gleefully singing Their national anthem with their arms wrapped around one another our team looked For the most part there were exceptions like they were About to undergo Life -threatening surgery What am I doing here with this crappy piece of Lyric and music being played for a place for which I have contempt Well, how many are on the team 15, I don't know how many are on the team Of the luckiest human beings on the face of the earth Only Six players held their heads to their chest when the star -spangled banner was playing and Not all of them were singing most were not Those who did such as Alex Morgan Julie Eretz and Lindsey Horan Appeared to mumble the words rather than sing loudly along they wouldn't sing loudly along because The truth is it took some courage just not to be silent With the ugly human being talking about ugly in a moral sense Megan Rapinoe in the lead with her contempt for the United States of America By comparison the Dutch team that's a team against which the US women played and they I think they tied the Dutch team sang proudly to their anthem Wilhelm Wilhelm us With the players wrapping their arms around each other before the game began in Wellington New Zealand all 11 Dutch women sang their anthem Too bad.

"Win the World Cup because all the other teams they won't be as advanced as France. France has quite a good team realistically and it's quite like it's quite good you know it's like it's got a lot of strength, peace. France is a very peace team um but yeah France has got a lot of strengths to it. Um so what's your opinion of the decision to hold the World Cup in Qatar? How did you feel about that? Did you feel like it was weird, a bit odd? Did you feel like it was nice? What did you think about it? Um to be honest I didn't really care because I just care about my World Cup and watch it. Yeah I wasn't really too interested on where it was actually being held rather than the fact that it was just being held. I don't really care about where it was. Um so would you have liked in so the 2018 World Cup was held in Russia, so would you have liked to go to Russia to watch the tournament or would you have been put off by the stories of high crime rates and like what is happening with Ukraine? Well I would go to Russia because that was back in 2018 and not like around now so the Ukraine thing wouldn't have happened and pretty mostly would have focused on the World Cup because he was at the final. Yeah um so which do you think is more important or more exciting the World Cup or the Olympics and why? Um I think the World Cup's more exciting because it's like there's more pressure like but there's more pressure and it's more intense. Yeah like you don't really get intense over the Olympics. Yeah um I think to me um the World Cup is more exciting but to me only like not only me but to me myself I think the World Cup is more important as well but generally I think the Olympics are probably more important to like other people because the Olympics contain more than one sport when it comes to the World Cup the World Cup's only football but maybe generally the World Cup's more important I mean the World Cup's more exciting but it's more important no the Olympics is more important but no the World Cup's more exciting but to me obviously since I'm more interested in watching football as fast as I am I'm still more interested in running watching football than running dancing or like different many sports um they also play big sports in the Olympics but they do good sports but like football is one of the biggest sports if not the biggest sport football is like yeah it's the biggest sport in the whole world so more people would watch even though the Olympics is more popular than the World Cup the World Cup's still better it's just yeah I'm more interested like football the players FIFA as itself you know that's what I'm more interested um so the World Cup takes place every four years so if they were to hold them more frequently like more recently or like basically more frequently basically how would you feel about that what would be the advantages or disadvantages of holding it basically okay so what do you think would be the advantages of holding it more frequently what would be the good parts of it the advantages yeah I don't really know I think like if the club was held more frequently obviously that's more entertainment I think that's one of the advantages what do you think yeah I don't have like that many advantages I have way more disadvantages all right what do you think about the disadvantages so so the World Cup would just be two years away from the Euros, Copa America, African, those type of other international clubs and also um players would just be like tired because we have to play in a league or yeah another country another big league yeah that'll probably clash with like national leagues like as you're saying Syria, Eredivisie, Premier all them type of leagues will probably just clash in and if it's more frequent it'll probably just ruin the suspense yeah it'll ruin the build up like if the World Cup was every two years for example it'd ruin its spark yeah and it won't really feel like oh the World Cup's coming because it only happens every two years not every four years yeah and it would also like be I think less than for like a few years um of a gap between the World Cup and the Olympics because I think that's at different times as well yeah it might be at the same time so people won't know what to watch and then have to choose one yeah they'll get quite confused um right so we mentioned the advantages of disadvantages of it being more frequently so what if it was less frequently like for example what happens every four years now what if it happened every six years what do you think would be the advantages of the World Cup happening every six years um well the players get more training to do to like get ready for the World Cup um they have enough time to like get new scouts and stuff like that and they also um get to get like a new manager if they wanted to yeah some of the managers might like be getting old yeah yeah that's all the advantages I have right so I think the advantages of it being less frequently um it'd probably be like obviously as I say more of a build up like it's longer oh I can't wait for the World Cup I can't wait for the World Cup and it's more suspenseful but I feel like one of the disadvantages I have obviously is like players have to retire at some point and the longer the World Cup takes to happen again the less World Cups the players might have for example um I'm pretty sure the last World Cup Ronaldo just played or the last World Cup Messi just played that's their last World Cup but if the World Cup was to happen maybe next year maybe they could play another World Cup so that's the advantage of it happening more frequently than the disadvantage of it less frequent so what advantages do you think what disadvantages do you think it'd be if it happened like every six years or something well for us fans yeah it would probably be like not being able to wait so I'm probably going to be like very impatient like oh when's the World Cup coming I want to see the World Cup because

Maradona's medical team on trial in former great's death
"Argentine court says 8 healthcare professionals will stand trial in the death of soccer great Diego Maradona, three judges of an appeals court confirmed the charges of homicide by negligence brought by prosecutors against members of Maradona's medical team. A medical board's report previously given to prosecutors claims Maradona was in agony for more than 12 hours, did not receive adequate treatment and could still be alive if he had been properly hospitalized. The date of the trial hasn't been set, but it's unlikely to begin before next year. Maradona, who famously won the World Cup with Argentina in 1986, died of a heart attack aged 60 in late 2020, following brain surgery two weeks earlier.

"Honestly i think in years past especially talking to guys who had played in europe. You would always hear stories of like. Oh you know when you're in american and you play overseas they look down upon you. They don't respect you because you know america has no history not a big football nation and you have to work twice as hard as everybody else in this that and the other But i haven't really felt that kind of like animosity or you know extra amount of difficulty. Inventive respect yeah lack respect trying to establish myself except when i was in I take that back. They love to make jokes about like me. Being married enlists american football versus like you know the football. They thought that was hilarious. First of all the jokes are tangible. Secondly they got so bad but it politics norway. It's not like year is that like. It's spain angriest norway not some big dogs. Brag of us is like cross country skiing. What are you talking about. Lee's the win soccer winter olympics but Now but it's been good like people. I think more than anything are always like excited to have an american on the team because it's like a culture that a lot of people in europe aren't like that familiar with like you know they see it on tv but they've never been there so it's like they're excited to have you in the team and from a social perspective but from a football perspective. No it's been fine like i think. Obviously me playing at a high level consistently helps that you know if you show up in your plan like shit then. That's a different story but like that hasn't been the case for me so You know it's been a lot of support a lot of respect and it's it's been it's been great out from inside the team outside the team. It's it's been all good okay. rapid-fire so i've already been thrown random questions with the extra raynham What do you miss most about the us about the us Gently friends food on the foods. I'm link burritos tacos. Mexican food like that smile. My go-to like that's my like gotta have at least like once a week in europe norway hungary. It's you're not finding it like it's just out at all doesn't exist over here. Which is understandable for me growing up in civic last week got a lot of really really really good places. It's definitely miss. That i can imagine Let's see. does anyone give you shit for having a hotmail email account yet all the time. Which i i didn't know that was a thing but i feel like ninety percent of the people i correspond with g mail or something like this. I don't know. I just had it since i in middle school or high school or something. My mom made for me now. We back them. She really set me up because people all the time. Give me shit when you mentioned that. Because everyone's always saying like what are you like seventy five or something like the still bigger than even i can get that. It's not something that people have. I'm the only one who has it in a big big in huggers of decades. Maybe i should change it. You know it's like. I thought about it but now it's at the point where it's it's been so long like i don't wanna have to just keep it too late now just roll with it Last book you've ever read last book. I ever read shoot dog phil. Knight autobiography was the last one. I think i read. Would you recommend it. Yeah it was good. It's interesting because everybody knows nike but to to learn about all the work that went into building. Nike is pretty pretty biggest. Starstruck moment you've ever had over there over here it well. I guess it could be played. Mos too but i was thinking europa league champions league qualifiers somebody. But you could be over here. let's see starstruck. I mean in over here ask you like i haven't really had oil. I guess playing arsenal now. That would be one thing arsenal at the emirates too was just just because like e kind of walk in their young damn. I've watched a lot of games. Yeah exactly and you know as empty on the field is a does on tv. Usually i think it's more feels more empty like rafters. Not seen a single person is a little bit depressing but still a cool experience in you know when you're planning against guiseley. Donald louise Watkins at an obama. It feels pretty cool. Guys are used to seeing on tv for sure. Favorite sport outside of soccer even sport outside something he may not have one gene. You honestly like it's a shame bidding basketball like a a real chance because actually enjoy watching basketball. I didn't like to play. Maybe i would have grown into that but Yeah love watching basketball. The sounders leaving play in the year like sort of secret through. I don't know animosity hatred towards staff law. No not really. I mean people are always like oh like so. Which team do you support like Home city in like. I don't i don't really support a team. I can be a fan of whoever i want now. 'cause we don't have a need at any given moment i have like five teams in the nba. But i feel like. Nba is more transient in their fans. Fandom fan ship than any other sport. I guess it's because the Only five players on the court usually so many minutes ago rounds. Only shots go around. Yeh lebron or like there's somebody's so big and they switched teams. Which not like that. That's how that's how i go. Wherever broncos i go so i'm like i've also been a cat stan. I was a heat fan. I was a cavs fan again and now really are run for. Grandstand is what lebron stand. You can say that. I mean we will broaden. Nba player era fans. That but like same thing happened with messi. Yes but i just think it happens a lot. More with fisher. Okay last question. How are you going to celebrate if we win world cup twenty two or indoor when we win world cup twenty twenty six inch shit However i celebrate good question hopefully team okay. That's i was. I was hoping you going to go like that. Yeah is there been any communications with like the barometer contingent or anybody over that firm for me personally no I like to think. I'm in that conversation but as of yet haven't really heard anything but.

"Back to first royals closer remunerate. Now's good i was on. What does the club known for. I know it's huge called. In hungary can you is there. Sort of some comparisons. You'd make like they are the manchester united of of hungary. Or maybe the tottenham of hungary where they look put it closer to their the real madrid or the buyer munich angry. they are the top of the pyramid. so the seattle sounders of settlement. They are the biggest club. I think something that. I've heard dislike every fourth person or every fifth person. Something like that in the entire country claims to be Yeah okay rail. The buyer music back is the. There's a lot of support in a lot of passion behind this club. So it's it's a it's a big deal especially here in hungary. Distance this club. Not just in budapest in the country. This is the one club everybody loves to support. How's it going so far. It's been good I think all things considered we're only we only two matches played In the league one loss on the first match day But you can't win them all in a win on the second match day so starting to get into gear turn in the air and then with the qualifiers for champions league we. We put in a lot of good performances in were really close to achieving our goals. I think on another day. We i think we would have come out victorious in that Last qualifier but unfortunately it didn't happen But still to plan your up league a huge honor in a big deal especially for this club in. Were looking forward to them as well right so the ucla qualifiers. You guys came up against young boys. A team with with another american jordan Peacock or cba. Ju i'm not actually sure what he goes by. Because of just short against them in the in the playoff did you have any conversations with him during or after I wished him good luck. I'd i'd sold him. You know he did well which which she did in in both games and it was fun to play against him and you said best luck in the group stage but you know at that time after those games you're so exhausted in yourself. You're so just Disappointed if if you're not coming out on the winning side so that that was tough but no it was. It was cool to against him in to play against that team as well. They were good side so it was fun. You guys got the euro bleak draw. And i'd say it's a pretty tough group would you guys thanks leverkusen. Celtic in bed teases in your gear. What you guys think. There's i think you hit the nail on the head. It's a tough group It's i think pretty rare that you get an easy group champions league courses no easy groups I think maybe there's one sometimes two groups you can look at it and be like Like this could go anybody's way but this is not one of those groups though is the top green labor crews obviously a huge club Bettys same tons equality there and celtic. You know they're europe league champions league every year so we know these clubs are are huge in the gun. It's going to be a great test for us especially now fans back in stadiums The atmospheres are are gonna be tough when you're when you're playing away but it's it's those are the games everybody loves to play in. I think it'll be fun. The flip side of that passion that you've spoken about Ferencvaros has that passion and the fan base as well. You know the can be sort of a dark side to it in about ultras norway. Have you had any experience with like the the sort of the you know the darker. Undercurrent of Fan base in hungary in hungary. No i think as long as winning work pretty safe in that regard and and we have been winning thankful and so just keep it. I don't plan on having any kinds of interactions like that Yeah i hope. It doesn't go there but i do not really something that i would say. Fuel's my focus or my motivation. It's it's not like a worry of mine but you know it's always there in the back of the mind just you hope and you think if if it did really go to ship. What would that look. It sounds like it would not look great. Spend with what twenty five percent of of hungary of being knowing who you are and who you play for the fact that you stand out for sure and the those are the times when you wish you don't but hopefully doesn't go there. I just I plan the keep winning in a way. We never have to experience anything now before will by the rapid fire disorders random questions. I'm gonna throw it extra kind of another random question so hit you as an american. You bell played norway. You've played in hungary. Have you felt like h you. Are i dunno targeted any way by their team or Not other teams were even Same team you know when you're trying to make your way up in the league or in the on the team sheet and sort of just what is the what is the reaction or sort of sentiment from opponents an teammates from being american.

We're getting closer getting the right direction. We decided them in january. Twenty twenty. what did you just have a hankering move to eastern europe. What how did this mela but a Although i will say so underrated anybody never been you gotta go but back to the football side. The with moldova. We rent champions league qualifier in. Got to the last round of qualify. And we were playing charles. This was twenty twenty. Yeah this was in twenty twenty And we ended up losing that That tie on aggregate away goals. God damnit other three and unfortunately they went through instead of us at that point. You just like that girls hotter than my girl. And i need to get it. That's that's where i need to go now. That's that's impossible. Compare people roll. Region goes the be neither here nor there which one's which one's the upper non twenty you think say don't eldery could shock me. I don't know different level but A got me distract. What retype norwegian zubov shit. yes so. We're playing french. Tomorrow's fourth-round of champions league qualifying we lost didn't go through. But i played really well both those games in basically They contacted the club contacted mold after that in there like we were interested in signing handwriting. What's the deal there And i was just like yeah. I'm ready. I'm ready for a new challenge. This is a big club. Fair trials was in europe bleak the previous year now. They're going to champions league. They're doing really well in their league. you know. I looked at that as as a huge opportunity in also looking at the the players. They have the talent on that squad. I was like this is definitely a good step for me So made the move here. Won the league in back in champions league qualifying again so i. It's it's what i came here to do. Compete at a high level. And that's what this comes doing constable. You know so. Can you compare you know u s versus norway in celebrating championships. What about norway versus hungry. I'd think hungry versus anybody is like not really a debate. The fancied were just out of their minds. Like it's unbelievable. Best best fans. I've ever played in front of home or away. It's it's crazy now. Does that translate to offer field like when you go anywhere you sort of get out. No like people an autograph. Still thing or pictures is are the new autograph but you get a lot of people. Stop you a lotta people. Honk their horns when they drive by like shouting out their windows at you things like this is pretty cool to to have that kind of support. It's like the first time you me. At least you kind of feel like a celebrity like in seattle is just. I'm a local guy does not really big deal within the club down plan for go to norway. It's like okay. Yeah people know you but it's not part of their culture to like revere. A athletes are celebrities. They just kinda let you go about your business which is cool but here. It's like no somebody knows either. They're stopped me as again the old yet a little bit. But you know we do for the fans got do before you. You said You basically suggested. Hungary is hugely underrated. Right yeah so what. what about. What about hungary's in. This doesn't necessarily have to do anything with sport. Like what was no. I mean. I think the city is just stunning in. This zoo added talking about budapest. It's just absolutely stunning city Really nice people Good food if you like history and things like that our culture. It's a must visit destination in mind any better. It's really beautiful place now. is it so. I've never been to hungary. I bet you. I would love to go. I've never been eastern europe. I really really really need to go But so. I imagine just like every building in every almost person like they probably bring up like the whole Power say that like the austria hungary you know the the the kingdom basically outdated europe hundreds of years. I assume that they they still talk about on a daily basis like that still guiding light. Is that true. Where there is a the deep rooted Hashing and sense of pride for for their country. I wouldn't say that there. Have you know the best relations with you know austria anywhere border. Into break-up yeah i was a tough flipped over the world wars. They came out unfortunately on the losing end both time. Fortunately firstly but i hear enforce it. Let me rephrase that at the eighty people knew what you're saying fortunately for the rest of the world but they came out on the losing side both times. They lost hon of territory. And you know they were ruled by occupations will occupied by the germans occupied by the russians for really long time and so that still is very fresh in the minds of everybody who lives here and of course. They're very bitter about it in. It's only fuels the fire that they have to to towards you know being hungarian which is a beautiful thing but at the same time. It's it's definitely a talking point like whenever you talk to people who grew up here in you obviously being a foreigner they always want to school you on the history of hungary. So you're aware this is. This is hungry this what we've been through but like we're here now and doing better agree as simple way but yeah it's cool us is well i feel like you know so growing up in seattle It's probably in a lot of ways. Just a bigger verse madison. You know you growing up in a certain sort of Frame of mind everything based on media reports. it seemed like hungrier. hungary is like the heart opposite side. Are those media reports trumped up or is that accurate. I think it's super little bit accurate. coming from seattle where very very liberal very left views from the majority of people who live there I would here. it's you see things. That are a little bit closer towards you know the trump state of mind you know. There's some animosity towards the lgbtq plus movement. I think that got really played up. In the during the euro's there was out of talk about that. Yeah and i think still see some racism here and there unfortunately if you experience it at all no i haven't not in hungary but You know so. That's i mean. I think it helps when you're playing doing for the biggest team in the country at the same time like you see the reports that come after hungary. Place england so yeah. That's unfortunate things you never wanna see but yeah it's different. I think they're not quite generally speaking doing things. The same as you know where i grew up or where no out of europe comes from but you personally had it really felt like you know People being whatever towards you. It's just not you have until two slow me being american me being black whenever haven't felt anything nba loves since i've been here so so that's been good for me than not everybody can can say. Sure sure you can't be forever. It's just wreck. People love to do that these days. But it only speak for yourself now back to first royals closer remunerate. Now's good i was on. What does the club known for. I know it's huge called..

"He's if he proves that. This was a learning experience. That i guess i am number alder out but i'm also not like a huge broader is the best guy for this job right now from it. He is guy. So i'm behind him and i'm absolutely supporting had. It really frustrates me. When i see people who like the berhalter out crowd. Who aren't the rooting against it. You're just ruining instant because you just want him out like that that i cannot. I know patients in the people. Mitch and i don't have a manager at our domestic club. We like so we have to like our international. What you don't like our tiny seems like such Okay well we can probably the one thing. I will say that after the candidate game all the berhalter out people everywhere. I mentioned you know. They're talking about basically monday morning. Quarterbacking all like the nation's league in the in the gold cup and being like this was not impressive logo. Listen if if that was josie marino who is winning ugly and winning those same people would be all on his nuts. It's just it's just a matter of perspective in inland security in the in the bias against the american coach for a lot of people. Not everybody doesn't speak to everybody but for a lot of that and that's what really grisly. Gears to more quickly mckinney. We gotta talk about western kenny. While i mean the the cherry on the top of the sheet sunday for me in that first half of the of the honduras game was paramount plus cut from the worst most painful fucking forty five minutes of soccer that like i had seen maybe forever in they go directly into a weston mckennie. gyp allay commercial. I just about lost my shit. Like i was like i was on the verge of doing bad things that her but long story short. We don't know exactly what's going on like we know a little bit. We know that he left the bubble in had people in my dm's before this actually happens saying that the my friends at the bar unlike friday night or something like that. So that's number one. That's just terribly terribly stupid number two. We know he brought a girl back to his room. Some so that's multiple indiscretions in the same small window and this is coming off. You know the the incident that uva were him in players got together and you know just were human beings and had a party when they shouldn't have so he got sent home. i. I haven't uh not firsthand but sort of pretty good authority that like the players actually took a vote on this and it was the players that sent him home and not an upper halter which is interesting if true in interesting that beholder did not mention that because he basically As far as i could tell he basically took it on himself Whatever happened it was not good like it was a messy situation. It's still messy. Thank god we won that game against honduras. If we'd lost came against this. I don't know what would have happened with the relationship between mckennie guys. We won winning heals all wounds. But what do you think going forward. The situation is going to be like can be called in for october. For example i have a couple of thoughts on the situation. And i'd like to share them. I think yes. I think we can. He will be Call them in october. And i don't look he made a mistake Just like you did. You say he's twenty two year old kid and i think at the end of the day he is. He did the crime. You serving the time and i think we as a fan base and federation should be able to move past that I think it was responsible of greg to take it upon himself whether the players voting thing is true or not. I think it is a big move from greg to take it upon himself and say yup. I did this. I sent west and home Because we're going to have high standards here the camp and he broke a rule. And that's that Again whether that player voting is true or not. I think that's good. Good move from greg. I think it was irresponsible of a fair amount of unnamed pundits in the us media to throw gasoline on a already pretty big dumpster fire And talk about you know weston's character and our disappointed in everything and a lot of it is because that's the one thing that they have to talk about for the day and everybody needs an opinion on it. But i it's just not doing anything. It's not doing anything good for the team by saying it's almost beyond repair. Your extremely disappointed in him like come on. You're not the kid's dad like he. He fucked up. He is serving his sentence And i trust in weston mckennie character and leadership enough to know that he's not gonna make that same mistake again and i think he'll be back in october to piggyback off of that. I think you both covered everything. Great sam i'm glad you brought up the commercial. That was insufferable. Extra little twist on my filed. Wild move But mitch. I'll i'll pick the second part of what you said I know that you don't want to name calling. But i think donna needs to go away. I think that he needs to be a mexico fan him. They have one thing in common is that they both can choose either one mexico or the united states. He gets to pick and choose when he gets involved with this shit in. It's just like so. W have you raise a good point about the the idea of media and the fact that everybody has to talk about this thing and so people just have no basis talking about as far as the disciplinary actions. Go i think he's what twenty one twenty two or twenty twenty two twenty two. What did you do that. I was gonna let he who has not been an absolute idiot when they're tori to throw the first stone. I remember. yeah some of the shit i do. What else way to. And it was terrible but like but that's not even to say what he did was fucking terrible. I know he uses physical fitness playing one of the biggest clubs in the world. He is twenty two years old like end of story. He got back at in the united states. Probably saw some girl or something that he hadn't hooked up within a couple years because he's been gone one to hang out or something stupid. I don't even know the story. But like whatever he did like he got caught and he got suspended and it's humiliating and he'll be back done simple. I think everybody that's making this out to be anything more than that is just being fucking blowhard and and specifically added donovan. I hope i never guess Yeah i mean it was. It was two weeks like or ten days. Like can you really Humiliate at itching million. And he s mix it he. He did the crime and he's paying the doing like you know he he got sent home. Everybody was talking about it for a few days there. Thank god we won. Because i think it will blow over as long as he doesn't you don't do something exactly like again. I do think it will blow over. I east twenty two. I agree with sort of the okay. That was bad. don't do it again. Learn from it move on like i'm hoping that's what happens. I would give western at four strike policy person. You get an extra striker to i. Don't care i mean his his absence in that honduras game in the first half especially. It's a game made for him to fill how was noticed noticeable. He's so he's so good in the air and so good going both ways that he's going to be useful for this team for ten years and he made a mistake at the age of twenty two. Everyone needs to shut the fuck up. I mean like eddie can say oh. It's this huge stage on the bigger stage. Oh it's not. It's everybody has their big stage like it's whatever you whatever stage iran that's the stage. I'd like so for him. It's sorta normal to be on the national team. So they shouldn't even they shouldn't even be bubbling. Everyone in the stadium. Everyone the stadium with them walked in from the bar. That's outside not get into the political site I think it's i just think of it but it sucks. It's just. It's a tough situation. I do understand where he's coming from being being being a twenty two year old Athlete has ever done y- exactly you gotta be smarter. Though talking international soccer where the night before the world cup brazil wanted to venture out the renaldo for going to a club. The night before nike said they could well visit. Boorda's sport is dramatic. This sport at it should happen. If you're if you're new to wydner. Matt weston zari. There's gonna be a lot worse that comes around. Yeah i mean. I remember in college me and my roommate..

"With the own goal. Obviously there was several plays where he just looked like. He got stranded on an island with imbaba at least two or three different times. And he actually. It's surprisingly well. There is the one challenge that i think. Perhaps we can debate whether it was a penalty. Redcar would you guys think on that one. Well first of all. I think Just watching that go back. I mean. I know tim. Centreback has been in that position before such a nightmare to deal with like the decision that he may salvage just smash it across the price facing his own goal. Like he's gotta get split in the timing okay clearing exactly right and obviously it skims off because he gets it so hard. It's wet and i mean it doesn't make me feel good. I'm not gonna say that but obviously guys you know world class players like it's it happens to literally everyone under the balls putting the right spot. I'm sure tim zone goal. I know i have so But i don't know actually watching the slow mo of that of that slide tackle from behind. I know it's like slowdown perfectly. And i think the wrath like i think he makes the right decision real talks. I can't imagine how difficult that would have. Been to see. But definitely make some contact with him and i know it's slight but when imbaba's moving that fast like any little touches bringing them down and i think because of the slow mo it looks like he reacts to the touch late and then he gets the ball kind of looks clean but i don't know it kind of looked at me but we know tim is southern back is gonna give host benefited out here. Yeah one dollars not even fell. I actually agree. I thought maybe this is me giving a over thirty. I the benefit of the doubt. But like i thought the fact he ran back like halfway through. So imbaba was in annette. Basically it was passed. Hubbell's hummel's looks like his hamstring's or like nope we're not doing this like this is not happening. I'm done and he's like note. Were gonna make this happen. And he makes just incredibly risky slide. Tackle. i mean from directly behind him up a basically did you like they said in that live. Get piano on his back. I mean it's imbaba pay. The guy is like the fastest player in the coach was hard it was. I would love to also think that like refs can think the way we would think in that situation. It's like when you're in college in your college. Coach was like some guy dribbles out of bounds. Like really hard to get the ball and he's just like oh klay on so like the wally sees Almost like chugging back like chasing him bob. am mike season thriller. Talking was probably a foul. But i'm not gonna call it 'cause he just likes chased this guy down so the disaster forty in like i'm going to give the effort play here a rich personal life rafts or like anyone else thought about that. 'cause i mean i've definitely been more act all about it. I mean you could see that. Maybe he did in that play. I think it's actually not a bad point. I actually thought it was not if as striker but also over thirty guy. I thought it was. I thought it was at a foul. I thought it was just incredibly risky. Dangerous challenge that he just somehow got right like he went through. And bobby's legs. And yeah he made did you know may have gotten about his ankle little bit the like he got definitely got all like i think you gotta give them to that point I don't know that's just. That's just my over thirty thirty year old self talking anything at Ruger ruder bid suarez. Like i feel like a something that people like. We just didn't talk like they sorta passed up on this like rumored like he bit swart. Who's quite clear like his his teeth route. Did you larry. Did you see this. I think like and then you inconvenience. It's kind of weird. And then you see. I guess on talking for the game like walking and talking and it's like i don't know if i i will my friends but like if i'm playing against if i'm playing against the buddy link-up testing this just like just like mask you like. I also don't think this is prudent. Smarts just two friends missile The love nibble. I get in his head. It's actually not a bad call of show here. don't you. hit the ruediger is is. That guy's crazy. I don't think i really realized how much you know. He talks shit all the time. He gets guys head to try to get in published. Had there i feel like ruediger is it would be fun dude to maybe hang out with at some point. Feel he's just absolute nutcase or maybe just all centrebacks. Brian center jobs All right anything else I had written down for that game. There's so many things. So that germany france in like a group stage game is just. It's insane to me but When john champion throughout the line to ecstasy when a benz muskoka bird and then the goal got chalked off. You could actually hear it in. John champions voice that how her he was about the fact that they took that goal away he definitely spent weeks coming up with that line he was so proud so happy and it just got ripped from his. You know ripped from his hands in wasted because he can't use that again. It's the gulf knows a one used gone. You could just tell you even then complained about a are like right after it was like. Yeah you salty. You are salty right now. He had that locked and loaded team all ready to go. He spent countless hours thinking of that. I loved it too. I i saw a tweet about yup yup. That's that's a tough one. you just eat. That was tough break. it was a real tub break But i don't think you can damn view of the for a lot of things. I don't think you can damn vr for that. One were the who was it who was like four feet offsides. Like let's be serious here. Yes group that ought to be interesting do we. Let's go to Let's go to best goals. Maybe we go with that. Let's go best goals. This'll be a little controversial. I think Anybody want to give. There's or do you want me to give my controversial taking you guys. Can yell at me about it. I think i'm gonna agree with your controversial tapes. So i'm going to reserve my opinion all right. Well i'm gonna give my three best goals here number one. I'm with your malenka. I think that his his goal against netherlands of just a great hit got them back in. the game. didn't wake tim apparently but woke woke ukraine up Just incredible hit number two. I'm going with six header. Got up between two guys. Yeah you get mitch. Give me look here He got a between two guys he cushioned. it's side-netting this is maybe the controversial take and then six fifty four yarder. That's my third best. It's behind the headers behind your milenko. Yes he kicked the ball very far and very impressive. That put it within a small little margin there. But i'm just not. I'm not that impressed with With those midfield goals that a lot of people seem to seem to love. I'm sure i'm sure you guys want to take issue with that. yeah yeah. I thought that i thought that field goal was released of just like i felt like he never even from the time. He got the ball time that he decided he was gonna hit it like a lot of these mid field goals usually. It's like guys got time and space. These wilkin up looking down and then finally this guy dislike set touch. I felt like it didn't look up. Mac and the goalie. I mean let's point out. Were the goalies started on that play..

"Up over the last few months or even you know the the the last two free weeks before we got promoted sleepless nights and if you ask my wife in our shields like helps on the edge was home but just you know. It's just a lot of pressure on. You put not personally. Because obviously i wanna to appropriate but for the for the club and for us as a team and then obviously in that week building to the day of getting promoted. We had the big debut on the saturday before against luton and out the way. I thought that was probably our worst game season from the first minute. We couldn't even get out for house promptly. They just pinned us in. We were absolutely terrible. We ended up losing the game one now so obviously going into the dressing room after the game we knew as well obstacles game. We had four games which was against norwich away. Who is the top of the league than middle home. Which is a game we have to win in the situation room but is always a difficult and then the last two went brentwood away ones at home dire opponents of getting promoted so the first of the final wish let balloons off fuck. We've we've missed the paternity to take another step. Saran address room looked now found in the schools and both swansea and brentford dropped points. So we kinda like all right. You know what it's we were absolutely terrible so at the end of the day it was the wouldn't say goodson because of deployments but it was because we have to lose you know wasn't kind of like a mental blow because if you for example if we played incredible and we had so many chances they score with a penalty he ended up scoring and score and win one. Nil and brentwood ones. You win you kinda think. Oh my god like this is not okay but the way buzzed because we were so bad and we knew how everywhere and they drop point so we kind of like well. It's more of a mental blow for them as for us because nobody will have expected us to lose and nobody will have expected them to draw points either because they had home games against You know on paper you know winnable games and they didn't and so they will have been thinking off fuck site. We just missed the muscle. Johnson because they lost and the we didn't show on next name lorrach away which was massive pressure again which we had so in the off the just movies and we ended up winning the game. We were very very good in that game as well start. Brilliantly could have been free nello buster hostile anyone one mellon. The end looked into an undisclosed again after room and both swan swans yapping. Even lost than prince points again. So then we knew if we win a home game on saturday no matter what everyone else does we promote it. So then the pressure stoute's building even more. Because you know you're so close on this one in the becky had is a little bit that next two games against the baruch opponents so if we went to lose it kinda can go down to the wire Going into the game going into the middle game than before the game we. Obviously we knew that mobile had listened to play for you know. I think the best they could finish was ninth. There were Thirteen so we knew that for them. If we score early they'll probably you know maybe take the full their gasol obey and it's going to make the game easier. Raleigh didn't because we scored after ten minutes and we hung on to the Study and You could just see when we scored. The pressure went more and more more. Because you've realized we're eighty minutes away from the permanent again. Remember people were not argued on the pitch you know kind of getting a bit not with each of the which we've been have all season just because of the pressure fifteen minutes to go ten minutes ago. They had a few decent chances to score as well. so that doesn't help and I wanna find a whistle. End up like i remember what it. I just remembered that freshman that wasteful in off year when i was it was an incredible and then come into the celebrations now. Finally we obviously had a few drinks a few drinks at the stadium. I think one or two is one of the younger players. I think were absolutely hamma already to find a way. So i don't know what they did during the game but Yeah they they just hit them straightaway at end. That was a few them obviously. There was no funds stadium. Families couldn't be there unfortunately but that was about to free people outside the stadium. So we see outside hudson abrasions in the dressing room and had a few drinks tavern and we just went to a local in what i just outside wanted which is quite good. We stayed there for a long time on saturday nights And then we met there again at the same job at twelve o'clock in the afternoon the next day and stayed there for a very long time ran that up in london at some points. All the way you know the rest away greeley you know it was very very nice rico obesity. Because we know it's done now especially with the two games coming up with brentford away in owns a show. It was a nice week and that sort explains the two zero loss to bradford than despite. Yeah it's it's difficult because you know you play The pressure because when you when you have nothing to play for of course you can say you know he can play relaxing. You can play freely That lasts that hundred. And i percents. He's not there you know understandably not bad because you know it stunned them you know people might not want to get hurt because we wanted to rein them you know. We still had a chance to win elite if large beaufort the last games we won both which didn't matter anyway because they wonder the penalty met game and we didn't obviously against an brench Yeah i mean yeah but that probably explains why we perform as well as with it before. I'm their that anybody jumping the in the pond. The like the taste building up to the mobile game where we've got promoted got messages on instagram. In are we going to see you at the on saturday we win and looking at address industrial environment. What's the voice. It didn't at the times. Obviously ben now i know. I don't think any other players went. Ah possessing some videos and pictures. A lot of funds jumping department. I'm glad we took give him something back as overseas in. You know as football final bump if you support anyone in particular you know. We don't know anything about winning. Anything sal carry-ons the other stuff. That's tom mom. Don't but you know like for folks for a small Small competitive monday night. Minutes live for this clip in the city. And i people that's life so obviously it hurts them hurts them as much probably more than than us play so for them to to give something back after fear as well thrown a virus which was Was nice in the. I'm glad we managed to do that. I try nice so if you could pinpoint the biggest partier on the team who was who party just maybe a little bit too hard. The biggest pasta seller celebrated from celebration from the you know the promotion does this does just a few people that Trying to think to who's who might be a dark horse from the outside that's a besley. Craig cast cots. He knows has party easy. Obviously you probably comes across quiet and reserved as one of the funniest you'll ever meet. He's got such dry. Humor is using credible So he he's he's the one that comes to my mind. I just because from the outside. I would think he looks a bit more reserved than the orbit. Quiet and debate and the background by. He's not gonna watch out for the beard off sudden it's wild time Okay well so there was. I mean that's that's an incredible season And things went well for the team. Things will welcome fans things volt for you personally So good nothing but good. Good times there Let's let's turn to a obstacle back.

"Watched ecuador play in a while missing out on something. Special big ecuador has a chance to take a random this tournament. second. I think if you're thinking too hard about who's gonna win it then you're doing too much. I think the only real good team is brazil like everyone else a lot of serious flaws. She lays still starting to say guys that played in the ninety four. Copa argentina is of argentina's. A lot of trouble in messiness. Now look happy. It's going to be one of those tournaments where everything ends one zero zero and goes penalties hostages. There's a lot of emotion and not a lot of talent I think. Ed you wanna look at flyers ecuador if you wanna just make a couple boxes result and taking all that's my thoughts on kabbalah. Okay just lay. Lay the foundation here. So as you said it's it's a lot different than the euros. There are ten teams and there's two groups so go to work it out of each four out each five team groups so like the group stages discernible kids just sort of fun funding games for the most part But group a brazil colombia ecuador peru venezuela then group b. argentina bolivia chile paraguay uruguay so drag groups. And as we. I think we talked about this last week. But the the tournament moved from argentina to brazil. Like last week so Just feels a little haphazard. I guess is maybe the word that comes to mind In the not only to get moved. Mergers heated brazil within the brazilian team. Is like yeah. I'm not sure if we feel comfortable playing it like at all cove. That's how you know how comfortable they are with the fact that they're gonna win it when they can afford to be like. I don't even know if. I really wanna play tonight. Oh so as as mike said. I do think brazil just seems like they're the just i don't know there's they're stacked the world cup favorites this year. The world cup cake their interesting. I don't know if i disagree They're stacked their stack. And then you normally think of like a chile or argentina. Perhaps you know coming out of nowhere. Just seems like i hate to say this because like i love messy been t- messy for over but like just something him in team tina they just do a mash. Something is always been off about his time there and perhaps they won't figure it out until until he leaves unfortunately at i don't know i mean i i say that where at the same time in the back of a mind. Maybe maybe they do something here maybe messy. This is like we've talked so much shit about messy in argentina. You know experience in all that maybe this is the tournament they finally get some get there get their shit together makes something you believe or is that just hope you're hope t messy representative talking gibberish. Judge turkey talk in the back of my son fund players. They're the paul. They always have fun players of all. These are so much talent loto who had a great season like they got. They got talent there. I i don't think you can write offers tita ever but now you said a lot better than people football i really believe is early. Gua tool at this point and you're talking about hold chill is well if you're talking about the two of them. Ecuador hung a four piece on him. A couple of weeks a couple of months ago at the end of the two thousand twenty right before ecuador's then win win beat colombia. Six one I think. I think that i would like ecuador to make a semi tournament W a huge step. For second so yeah. There's not a lot of major storylines in this. I i really believe any gurdwaras really old really old. I they did they. I'm just looking at the because they've already started world cup qualifiers. I think right. Yeah that no there well into that right which is just banana. Ecuador's topic group an earlier hung a number on colombia and brazil hung number on broadway. Yes just. I don't know there's all sorts of things happening copa america but it'll be fun tournament. I'm excited. There's going to be so much soccer over the next month and then and then gold cup starts betting before gocha a summer soccer. It's gonna be good stuff Michigan call outs on copa america. Sort of like me. Sort of like brazil's just too fricking goods. I don't have anything. I'm willing to put my money behind other than brazil. It's i'll go. Yeah no brazil not nothing no Let's see columbia to say something insightful. But there's just there's just nothing. Welcome back we have a very special guest this episode and now officially recurring guest. I should say who is fresh off a fantastic promotion winning season with waterford and right here right now as we speak. He is in camp with austria preparing for the euro's which kicks off on friday. So please join me and welcome back to the program. Daniel backman how you doing today sir are on your mom. Go thank you. Thanks bible at my pleasure First and foremost and you know we'll discuss all of this a little more in detail in a second. But there's a lot of congratulations in order. The world has changed quite a bit since last. We chatted in july of last year. It felt like a lot of things were poised on a knife. Ed's in perhaps you can correct me if i'm wrong. But what season at the time. And what's resort future was poised on a knife edge. Your future perhaps with offered may have been poised on a knife edge in the world seemingly was poised on a knife edge at the time Some of that most that hopefully all Fingers crossed is no longer quite You know influx like that but since that time in water an awesome season and you played a big part in that clearly You or i would say you have the best view in the house. As a goal scorers union member have to throw that in there and so congrats on the promotion obviously end also congrats on the wizard. Call up to to austria for the for the euro. So a lot of things have been happening here. D- feel like your master plan is sort of falling into place. What yeah i mean. It's it's been. It's been a difficult you know. I'm not sure if i mentioned obviously last time we spoke. Obviously it's been a difficult and eighteen moments for me since i came back from alone in scotland's and didn't play and and we got relegated in the end and a new season in play again. Yeah on january. Everything kinda changed from from one day to the other and look buckskins and obviously got promotes. Pregant made moisture debut on wednesday in england's which is pretty incredible raider. Nice so Yeah it's been. It's been a good a good six seven months nice. I would say that's the same. Same zomig bump but unfortunately you could like twist that and say that the didn't get wofford safe from relegation last season so i guess maybe i won't throw that in there. Yeah yeah obviously. At the time when we spoke i think renew running trouble area. the rec-. We couldn't quite make it over the line. You rebound sparks. Joy writes about so little pasta. The absolutely did so before we get to the promotional you know. Let's start with the the beginning last season. So you know obviously it takes probably huge toll on you mentally too relegated. What were your thoughts. And what was your confidence level. I guess both about the team and your place in it when he started that last season. Yeah i mean obviously for me. My pin a little bit different mentally. Because i've been placing game in that season. We got relegated so it's obviously different for people who played regularly and played a big pile of getting relegates. It's so i guess as they of course you're disappointed and you know you don't want new teams go down and propose a team sport. Reel this together. Even you know people that are playing very much so that it still of course. But i just tried to look at it in a positive way and you know kind of saw it as in well..

"Experienced players. He's living in their head and he is the hell out of them. Which i think is probably the biggest compliment really is but also the fact that anytime somebody gets choked always mckennie they always wanna go after mccain. I think it's three different times. I've seen a mexican player. Like reach for grad mcafee's throat and there's been zero cards given not a single card yet. I don't understand what's going on right there. Just conquer calf being kenneka gaffe In terms of cards. I think hector herrera should have been out of the game on that tackle on ethan. That was that was heinous. I don't know how you didn't get get sent off of that. That was very obvious like orange card and then he followed it up with the second challenge. I think it was an extra time referee pocket and then realize the yellow yahya straight orange he got to or should have had to orange guards And he somehow is still on the field. That panamanian fellow men's indoor league and that's still a wreck i mean just the panamanian fellow had a had a rough go of it i would say i don't think he's he's not meant for the moment he wasn't he wasn't able to make the big calls he had no question of that's my assessment of the panamanian fellow That no question. The huge Let's say this was like latin allowed. Funny that looks like a roach. Carded nine minutes into that tackle have a clutch gene. We have to have a clutch gene. Tommy refereed for fifteen years of my life. A referee has to have clutch. I promise you gene was born with the clutch areas. Just wonder just wondered is if you have a clutch gene does it manifest itself in refereeing and playing automatically or is it. Can you do the ref clutch gene necessarily the sacra sheet. I hope it manifests itself in different ways. I've i've come up with. Clutch scored a goal in the last seven seconds of a state final game before. It's put us up to one for us to deal breaker. Not a not a little. A little brag steph. They greg but It manifest itself in different ways. I would say nowadays. I have more of a clutch gene in the sending emails at like six fifty nine kind of way but overall i think i think it kind of spreads to every area of life. Okay right okay So i guess we'll say that christian pulisic who i think a lot of people. There is a lot of criticism of ballistic A lot of this game But he had the question right. He came up big when it matter and he put that penalty like up in the middle. He looked a little emotional. I think the moment was getting a little bit. Like he was burning. Really ought probably tired. He's probably tightening. He was definitely. You just won't champions. He's definitely was doing a little party. And i saw him dancing the spice girls on instagram. The other day and then he's coming over here immediately. Jumping off the plane and playing games and then at altitude. He's got to be a little tired. I don't want to just make excuses here. But like that's just facts like ed to be a little tired here Glenn haters among the touch. The touch was loose a little bit for sure. So that leads to that point In polled in foul lot of frustration. A lot of stuff that came out. And that's why he was just a little bit overwhelmed. None the negative way but like that's also. Us mexico like all. That's what i'm saying. It has groups. Like i for most these guys first proper proper game against them and so you feel that moment and it's like i think we got the game that we got because of that too so it's like this game had everything in probably one of the best. Us mexico games we've seen and i. It was chaotic. Twenty about his from the energy of these guys being a little bit high too. Yeah i agree with that. And i would say the thing about ballistic was like it just looked like things were coming off and ask the game war on getting more and more in his own head above that things were bothering him. A little bit Same with raina. That rain about emotional. While i don't mean to say emotional in a bad way. Obviously you're saying like they just got really worked up like when you're you always get told like athletic counselors and shit. We'll tell you like don't get too hot or too cold Up into down and he was a little bit too far the like listening to god's matt when he should have been listening to buy like he was very much like like really really rock and roll out there. That's what i describe it. Maybe no sense anybody else. But i think he was a little too worked up on honestly. I mean i get that i can just impersonal. I thrive when people give me mad and sort of i can so i can see how politic in rain it might be better in a certain sense but once you hit a certain threshold minute starts to take away from your performance. And perhaps they had thank god mckinney. Scoreboard he did That's going to get more and more frustrating at the end there on really ugly a that would have been bad. I was. I mean what was your thought. I think we already Said it when when line is scored seventy mikey but like what was your guys. Thought when minus score that was like fuck fuck. Yep so i thought i did not think we're fucked because we were so dangerous on set pieces for the whole game out. There is a chance we get one office piece. Just because when we transitioned there so much space is just get a get a couple of corners. We'll score off one kind of thing or get a really good chance one. go sorry. Sorry to interrupt you. Think it's worth pointing out confidence that tim looks like he. S always forget when he gets the ball. He laid somebody. he's like. Yeah you want you want away. Liberty looked at it now. He started a look big and fast strong. Like he's looking quite. I mean if not a regular member of this team one of the more valuable super subject possibly on a rossel's rigor national play a game changer. We got some serious. I think if you're not gonna brennan aaronson the eleven brennan aaronson and yunus mussa. Did not play Decays another one like aaronson and mussa especially aaronson in this in this camp was very impressive like i think. He raised his stock. Maybe more than anybody else he he comes in he. His motor is nonstop and he just goes and he's in the right place at the right time. Like i was very impressed. I was already high anson coming in. But i thought he did just a fantastic job. There's actually another game people. Forget this actually gonna play. Costa rica in a friendly. I think on wednesday so it's not this is not the end. We're going to see some some more probably from all the guys that really didn't play or nearly as much but i was really impressed with aaronson aaronson in having those guys come off. The bench is just especially those two with their motors. You can throw mussa in there as well What berhalter has against mussa at this point. I guess maybe another question..

"Right boys and girls welcome back. Sam's army episode one not one to two point one zero to a lot of their We gotta talk about as always the really just three main topics in which to talk about them against the us mexico game. Obviously we gotta run over that real quick then. We got previews for the two big tournaments starting this week. We got the euro's copa america. So will run through those and Also stay tuned for an exclusive interview with an actual participant in euro. twenty twenty. th century still called twenty twenty. Let's just roll with it so recurring guest and starting goalkeeper for what for daniel backman of austria joins us to discuss the awesome season that they had at wofford bounce back into the big dance inside. Look at the euro so stay tuned for that but first time to welcome in my partners in crime this week so larry's off. He's in la. Doing some sort of sightseeing probably drinking fruity. Drink with an umbrella of the this point Who do we got we got. Tommy mccabe who is also in west coast. What's the what's the latest update on. Orange county's push for the playoffs at this point w i would like to say that we are still in the hunt directly as sam would say we had a good good win over the weekend up in sacramento. So that's always nice way to to finish off your week. Nice nice probably make it. Strong runs to draw. Defenders away in the ninetieth. Minute for big goals unselfish runs. That's that's the key to my game. Here i like it okay. All right good teammate. Mccain is Next up we got goulet. Mitchell goulet is back aka overtime mitch. Back hit us up with some more. This baston accented had takes You in a minute. Mikey hus how kim's life treat you mitch. It's good i. La la tenders dangerous. Let me tell you you meet with you. Mattress unreal weirdos out here. Tweedle dumbest of gunar ville which is introduce you as Mikey you going for a week or two. I'd say it's good to have you back you looking good in your emelec or something. Jerseys malacca hipster snob. South american jersey is very nice. Looks good site what that is actually Well it's good to have you back And it's actually a great time navy back we we all know your coan middle You know predilections. So we're gonna lead you heavily ear given the copa america. We will talk about soon but first we will. We will start with. Us men's national team mexico. And i'm gonna throw the monologue at usa hold on while i get up on my soapbox here real quick now before we really start here. Let's take a second and let's do a quick group exercise to stop what you're doing and listen closely for a second. I know you're listening but listen extra closely for for his second year. So if you're if you're hearing me right here right now. There's a very very good chance that you are a us. Men's national team fan which means you've been through some seriously tough times in recent years so before we get knee deep into the game and reactions reprecussions and all that and what it means. Let me just say congratulations on a huge huge massive win to each and everyone who honestly you deserve. That last night was one of those times that you live for is fan. I'm not ashamed. Sad cried maybe a little bit. Happy here. Happier there You know some would say it's nonsense colour. Borderline psychotic delusional. What have you but I i care about soccer cared deeply specifically about the us being good at soccer. Thank god for women of course over the last however many years on the men's side we just haven't had much cheer about in years so we as fans we earned that win by sticking it out you know stuck at through from losses. Tiny caribbean island nations to canada are beautiful neighbors from north mexico. Our neighbors from the south teams all And just like the players earned it in their asses off for years and proving it in that ninety minutes that all of our hopes in our dreams or the. Us's is headed. They're not make believe they're grounded in reality. This is a young team that is not perfect by any means but they are talented shit and they care just like you and i do so congrats on the win to you and me and don't be afraid to sit back and actually enjoy it a little bit as you know what we've earned it. It's been a long time coming and it feels good. Feels good to be excited about the future. So there we go off. My soapbox now can move along to the the euro's skin we can actually go to the game so let's talk about. Us mexico trace adults at to set the scene for everybody here. Let's give a quick blow by blow on the actual game because on and off the field last night on sunday. The game was just like pure banana. Land like it was just amazing. Incredible in terrible in fantastic all the same time. So i'll give a quick like very quick rundown. I'm definitely gonna miss them things. There was so much going on like on the field off camera on camera so jump in at any time or at least add in at the end here but so we get with the game got started real quick real hot Sixty one seconds. In specifically marc mckenzie made a very big mistake. Let's just be honest. It was it was a very big mistake and ticket tito jumped all over it rufa right. Basically through zack. Stephenson face into the goal. Not not the start. You want from the usa aside But the team you know team came back Raina do money rain a scored. I think the twenty seven th minute a set piece of corner. I hit the post. He put it in a great way to come back show some spiritual some spine. Usa played well from their halftime. A dude ran onto the paramount plus set and just jumped over the rail in his never been heard from again. As far as i can tell. I have no idea what happened in this guy. Maybe one of you guys do will be filled me in later From there the game continued on there. Were some controversial little tackles. There was impossible red cards that were not given In the linus came into the game into the game for for mexico like thirty seconds later Basically you know pants. Tim ream in in scored a goal. That was a seventy ninth minute. Three minutes later weston mckennie climbed up on another set piece in the other corner and headed home to equalize at two. That was the the scoring in the regular time. Let me go to extra time and Let's say a controversial penalty was given to the us we can talk about more perhaps But pulisic got tripped the box in just absolutely perfect penalty. like right. Where the postage stamp or whenever you want to call it just a beautiful penalty at home. That was one hundred and fourteenth minutes and then thought that was it that we were gonna get the victory of course not. There is a lot more to come. So calf did we have does and The panamanian ref will probably mention a couple times at this point panamanian fellow. I would say headey a bit of rough game. Let's say He had a another var decision. Hint ahead ball a header. That was right down. Mark mckenzie's arm about six inches away and he decided that was worth penalty. Any gave it to so think guardado stepped up. Ethan forbath who came in for stephan during the game stepped up in blocked the penalty and it was amazing. I mean like there's all sorts of narratives..

"Not me because it's my first season green who lower now. I love the jerseys as well especially since we will i. I don't think i'm allowed to say it. What the last year's their jerseys were really nice spruyt always as good juice. And i've always been rookie. I was always looking forward to seeing the new jersey. And i'm a little bit sad that i don't get to play in jersey next year butts to sad either like i'm really excited for for the next step in my life. Well before we get to the except going to be the next question. I'll just point this out that I love the jerseys. And we're actually going to be doing a giveaway. I believe one of the special jerseys you guys are going to be wearing For the fbi cup. Is that what it is. Yes i think that's hoping yes so we're gonna be doing giveaways. Everybody stay tuned for that. Obviously all of both were jerseys are a fire so everybody will want one of those. So pay attention to our social media. Channels for that Laura as you mentioned so you have two more games officially left. What's next i. I got a job. In switzerland as a general manager which i think is really funny because i've never actually worked at day allies and first job. I mean i've worked. But i played football and oregon. That's playing. I know that's that's just. Yeah it's worth but it's different and it's the job. I accepted it because People are gonna show me how. I'm gonna i'm supposed to do it over on a period of time and eventually obviously i will have to do it myself but not in the very beginning so i will slowly be introduced to all the things that i will be doing and it's in. The cloud is called. Grasshopper club zurich. Those eric is a really nice city and and really looking forward to working in switzerland. Because i haven't lived there in a long time and Doing something for swiss roots football as well. There's still a lot to be done. But i see that. The country's developing as well and many good things are already happening in. I wanna be a part of it at this point Question for you polling favorite player growing up and never supported the men's players to be. I had a book clinton's little bit as my role model. 'cause she wins the number nine for germany at the time when i was growing up so it was already a female role model but never immense. That's okay. I remember prince I think the us got the better of her more than she. Germany germany. you guys you guys. Did you wanna world cup. Right to tantric okay. Three and seven right. Yep back i know that where was the. Us what happened. What happened us in that one Okay that's That's a good. What i thought you were going to. Maybe say laura and like stick it to her for being old why you're a nice person and compete with prince okay Last question Well it sort of two questions so this is for both you guys will any country other than united states ever win another world cup. Yes germany though. I don't know about that. The women actually i do. I'm sort of doing a stick but The women in europe are coming for the us. And it's you guys would come in vast the spain and the netherlands. Germany germany's been there obviously before sweden was there before england france. I mean there. There's a lot of good national teams that you gotta watch their. But i will say that but on the men's side this is the last question this is. I left that genderless on the first question this. This one's more specific to the men's side will the united states. Men's team win a world cup in your lifetime I don't know how much or how what kind of things are going on in the us. Actually so it's hard to say. But why not i think if the us decides to do something so if to decide today that they want to become champion in football or soccer. They will eventually do it so that they have to do. I like the optimism. I have decided that. I want to win. Unfortunately many sports that that is part of the problems that is part of the problem cultures a bit difference around football so it is it is there's basketballers baseball there's hockey there's all these football like what you guys think was american football. Yes so there is a lot going on here but the only right answer to that question now for the record is how many world cup's the gonna win in your lifetime because we are coming we are have some very very actually yeah. It's very talented young players. And if they all stay healthy and play together yeah big things are coming for. Sure future ahead of you. I'll be diversity minister in the us and you can be a us soccer ambassador in europe and we can just can have both sides of the of the you know world covered. I like this. I think europe is starting to see the us. us soccer. And now we have. I think jesse marsh york east coach of writing and i really really like the way he thinks. He works his mentality his way of talking to his players stops. Yeah the nice way of bringing the american way mixing it up with the european way. That's really cool. Because i think ben if you mix those two up that you make you make you can make big things happen. Like i mentioned you would come to the national team coach. Then you can win the world cup. I like this. I like this in my language speaking to me right now. It's right right to my heart. Can't thank you laura pauline. Thank you guys for coming on. No it's a busy week or two weeks here Best of luck in the two games. I'm already writing in as champions of the dfb and fingers crossed. I'm i'm i know. Maybe this is an american thing where we you know. We could quarters to win. But i think you gotta give preference some tips after the game after you beat. Give them some tips on how to be byron. You guys know how to do that. So just a thought. From from insular american over here Take it to take it however you want Best of luck in those games and really appreciate you guys coming on and telling us about the the growth of the sport in europe in the all the good things that will spur doing so can't thank you.

"That underperforms wait to see way does he was gonna pay most okay. That's that's fair. i mean. I've i'm just obviously praying that he ends up at todd but i don't think that's he's a nice thing and we can't have nice things so i don't think he's gonna end up a title. Are y'all getting ponta. Chino is how is that. God i would hope. I mean i a junior back to you guys. He's such a cool. Another dream of mine is i mean pacino's number one. He's the absolute dream. Take him resilient. Even those obviously be to all won so many champions league trophies. Yeah that's true but like tatham first of all we're not gonna win all these trophies when one at some point maybe eventually i want to win it with postino coach. I just want that to happen. I need that to happen. So he'd be like you have popped. The tino ken that harry came instead or sedan came with hurricane stares he's gonna go i- So i think he's staying. I think he's gonna give us one more season to get shit together either way. But if poached tina comes. I feel like that buys us more flexibility more bandwidth as well so. Yeah it's it's almost like a coup situation. You use some bandwidth soccer andrew internet these days. I know i don't know what's going listen. At and t. is absolutely fist. effing me today. So it's i leaving here I don't know what the deal is. I don't know what the deal is banned with voice Okay listen there's gonna be allowed to answer tough easy money. Tnt in there and dirty here. I got nothing crazy nam. dude. I saw those maps. Chicago's definitely lit up on that map to have other everything right whatever color. At and t. Is whether blue green or pink or t. mobile's pinchas that but like it's bright light in the middle of downtown chicago and i can't get some goddamn service here. I might home internet or my phone. It is just the worst part eighteen. I'm coming come. yes Quickly usability so quickly. They lost a friendly loss to one to. The species was at sunday monday the whole weekend. Nine melded together so sunday. While they quickly the starting lineup was was not too surprising. There was no yunus mussa which was a little disappointing but at the same time. We actually have games that matter coming up. So perhaps he was being arrested for A lot of people were upset anytime. There's an mls player on the field when there could be a european player. People always lose their should online. So i know that the submission legit is always you know persona non grata for the haters online jackson. You'll caught caught a lot of stick as well. The game itself was it was just disappointing. Like they just didn't look good. They looked like a team hadn't played together in two weeks or months. If not years in they just didn't they didn't look the defensive unit especially was just over the place swiss ram through us and they could have scored three or four more goals than they did. In fact that we only lost two to one is sort of who got little lucky on that But i will listen to friendly the switzer good team there. They're ramping up for whatever it is. They're about to play world. Cup qualifiers Europe's play euros and all that stuff. So they're they're they're sleeper for that tour this era the hopefully. They're still peaking because if they they finish like that they're not getting out of age But yeah it was just a disappointing performance in d- It's a friendly in. We move on thank. you know. it's really all the first first half was better. I think than a lot of people were giving us credit. For the second half probably was worse we were bad. Second-half there's there's no getting around that so on thursday. We play concacaf nations league. Semi-final we play hunt. Doris espa game. That that matters you know the first game matters. And then we play on. Sunday will play the winner of costa rica and mexico in cut a cocker capture nations league final. So those are the games that matter nachos of the games that were building towards so that this game was actually in switzerland and then the this team flew and i think they just landed today in denver. And that's where the the nations league is going to be played so the semi-finals on thursday honduras finals on sunday. Costa rica mexico. The one thing i'll say about this is you know we've talked a lot about berhalter especially people like the berhalter's caught flash it over the years. Essentially for the same reason legit in. You'll need guys catch a lotta ship. People loved hate on and they love to hate on the people who haven't gone overseas for a number reasons. But listen it's you can't fault berhalter yet like now. Starting thursday is the time that we can start to actually judge broader on the result. And we'll see how it goes. You know i mean. This is a team that has more talent than in u. s. t. of ceiling. This team in this roster. That's out there for nations. League is about as good as we have ever seen. I mean this. There is so much talent on this team. No tell rams may not be able to play but other than him who we got a deep deep. We have a very very talented team and eleven should be very very good. The the absence of atoms matters that guy. He may be the most replaceable guy in a starting eleven. In our best eleven. So we'll see if he can. I assume we can't play We'll see what happens there but we have to beat hunters you cannot. You cannot lose todd doors. In this situation we have way too much down matters too much We have to win. The game on thursday then comes game on sunday against costa rica or mexico. That'll be tougher. We'll we'll see But this is when we can start to. Actually you know judge Results in if we don't win the nations league that really ramps up pressure on gold cup. I think we have to win. One of those two. I don't know but the us fan soccer fan base is really toxic and there so bidder. It's hard to please anyone with any result. They want to be like as good as like france. And we're we're just not. We're not doing that though. I feel like people need to realize kind of hope. For small victories and up we have a solid identity by the time get broke up as in america a person that isn't american. Us men's national team fan might vacations are always kind of medium in that if they connect exceed that. I'm very pleased. So i'm hoping that we can just win games. That's fair that's fair. Ever since the two thousand seventeen and stuff went down. The fan base became like win from canada. Toxic to holy shit. This is like you know you're do you think rank on toxic twitter fan bases i ours Those calvin i think just in terms of the soccer world. We've gotta be gotta be up there. I was just thinking soccer. Twitter is probably the most taxi place eliminated. I look like videos on stats than look at the comments where everyone is shitty to each other back in post is so toxic aggressive unknowns ever. There's never like a whole comment section full of happy good for you. Comments is always like something herbals littered in there. It stinks every time a twitter conversation. That like i'm tagged in that i'm not like participating in every time like you know goes down. It's just the normal thing. Were everybody ends up hating each other in. Call each other. Hitler stuff anytime at some time you know. The two people actually agree on something that they didn't agree on to begin with or at least they agree to disagree. It's almost like a just a beautiful moment until like witness that sarah that actually it's very rare. It's your tweets. I love your tweets man. I love. I love reading you. During the tottenham gamut stream stream-of-consciousness. Yes toxic me. I can't go people responses it can be occasionally can come at. Usf you always have a very funny back and forth with your tony to read. It's time to try at the end of the train. Keep positive because whenever you play chelsea though on you tweet something out and then chelsea chelsea winning i come back and i liked the tweet after chelsea mardi out of that i see a lot of that when people come back and and respond later. Like we'd like your tweets. yeah. There's quickly thursday hundred sunday mexico. Costa rica pay attention to those. Those actually matter. These are the first games the actually matter for a long time. So let's win those moving on. Mls we before we got on. Have to make a complaint i know. Mls was doing good thing with their jerseys but everybody had the same blue in white color scheme and it was for moves for like color blindness awareness. I don't actually know what it was time.
