"Well, I think that's one of the other factors here is I don't know that you have an obvious team if the jets miss out on Aaron Rodgers and knowing how big woody Johnson wants to swing, I don't think that you can rule out that possibility of ending up with the jets, although he would take that would also be an offer sheet that the ravens would potentially want to match. Washington would make some sense, but they're also in a position where the team may be sold because that increased the value of the team having Lamar Jackson and oya Dan Snyder can guarantee some other owners money and some other owner to put that 180 million into escrow next march. Maybe. But it doesn't sound like that's on the front burner for them right now. The colts have a vacancy. I don't know on that one. I have not, I don't have a clear answer on that. Obviously, San Francisco, Brock purdy surgeries coming up tomorrow. They don't ever but they don't have a first rounder. They don't have a first rounder. They don't have a first round pick as of now. So obviously that's a complication for them. You don't have, again, you don't have that clear. This is where he's going to land. But I think that with somebody who's this unique of a talent and a unique proposition, it may take someone with some foresight. I mean, I don't think that we went into last march rich saying the browns absolutely need an upgrade at quarterback. The other teams that were in on it made sense. It was the Panthers. It was the falcons once you realize that they were probably moving on from Matt Ryan. With the browns, Baker Mayfield have been told he was going to be the quarterback. He got so ticked off that we broke into free agency frenzy so I could deliver the news need requested a trade. And that was after they were told they were out on deshaun Watson. So it might be something that shakes loose that we're not even thinking about right now with Lamar. It's really going to depend on a lot of different factors, including when that negotiating window opens up on Monday, does anybody jump at Jimmy Garoppolo? Does Baker Mayfield land this power? He's got a shot to compete. You've got some guys on the street. You've got other trade possibilities. What happens with Aaron will know a lot more by next Wednesday right now? It's kind of hard to project other than there are a bunch of teams that don't have a clear starter. You're the man, Tom. A lot of food for thought, greatly appreciate you delivering that to the fans and listeners and viewers of the show. Appreciate it. We'll chat soon. Thanks for having me. Well, you got it. That's a Tom post Sarah will be on NFL network and probably about ten seconds. Let's take a break food for thought 8 four four two O four which, number to dial right here on the rich eisen show.

"Obviously you can't far from signing my franchise tag today. I'm signing it because I want to make sure that that $10 million is locked in. If I'm a mar, I'm not signing that tag. I'm not until I absolutely have to. And he doesn't really have to until week one. Technically he wouldn't be a holdout. So he could without losing a red scent, wait until September 1st to sign to sign his tender. That means he doesn't have to show up to anything or anything else. And that would obviously give him the flexibility to wait until after the draft. Now the risk there, of course, is that other teams are going to make their plans. So there could be suitors now that say it would come off the market because they get their quarterback situations buttoned up. Teams that maybe aren't willing to wait until the first and May to do it. But that's certainly an option. And obviously a lot of people pointed to the dolphins as a team he would want to go to because that's where he's from. Yeah, I know. So what's the market? What's his market looking like? I mean, I think one team I was just sort of kind of keep an eye on might be the jets, like the jets are going to look at all of their options. And if the Aaron Rodgers thing doesn't work out for them, I do think that you have to be a team to keep an eye on. I think woody Johnson is very motivated to find a franchise quarterback. This off season and so say the air on thing doesn't work for one reason or another, well then I think they could be a team that could throw their hat in the ring. Joe Douglas, their general manager, obviously came up in Baltimore. So he should be able to get really good information on Lamar. So maybe one, I just sort of keep my eye on. And then I think after that, it's difficult to find suitors. I mean, you can think creatively like what Tennessee do it. You know what I mean? They're out of the guaranteed money with Ryan Tannehill. So that's just spitballing, but we've seen the way these things evolve. And I'd say this too. Just because we were all able to rule a bunch of teams out, like that's not teams like calling reporters and telling them no. That's like a guy becoming available. And either beat writers or people like me calling, texting people they know and saying, hey, would you be interested? And at this point of the off season, a lot of those teams have already sort of made their plans and they've discussed them are because he is on their free agent list. So just because a handful of teams at this point have been quote unquote ruled out doesn't mean that there aren't other teams lurking there. Maybe some even have quarterbacks now ready to strike and ready to go after Lamar. It also becomes a little hard ascertain that because Lamar doesn't have an agent. So there's been less communication between the teams and Lamar's camp because it's harder for teams to do that. What about the Washington commanders Dan Snyder signs them to the deal he's looking for and spits one last breath at the NFL and sells the team. That's a big conversation. Seriously, what do you think? I think it's interesting. I think it's interesting, but you know, what Dan Snyder wanted to do that. Now, I would argue that it could make his team more valuable. You look at like the Broncos and the sale of Broncos last year and the Russell Wilson DL being sort of a part of that and kind of what it gave. And look, we all know how the Russell thing played out, but like, you know, for the new owners coming in, it was sort of like, all right, we've got a marquee franchise in the Broncos and now we've got like sort of the hood ornament for the whole thing in Russell Wilson as we as we kind of pull those Rolls Royce out of the garage. You know what I mean? So I think that there will be that benefit for it. For doing that, I just, I don't see the commander's doing that this off season. I don't know that there is the I don't know, I don't know if they have the financial wherewithal to do it. Right now, to be honest with you. It does seem like the community to giving Sam how at least a look see. And I do think they're going to bring in a veteran to compete with Sam Howell, but I don't think it's going to be a high end veteran. And I don't think it's somebody who's going to cost them a lot of money. All right, Albert, I got a couple more minutes left with you. What is the latest with Rogers and the jets right now? Best you could tell me. Yeah, I mean, I think that from everything I understand things went well. I go back to when they hired Nathaniel Hackett and I asked around the organization about the implication of that. I mean, even back then, and that was what mid January. No one in the jets organization shied away from the implication that that meant that they could be making a router there and Rogers. So this is something they discussed for a while. Putting the people on the plane that they put on the plane and the owner and the team president and the GM and the head coach and the offensive coordinator, I think tells you how serious they are about this. And I think in an ideal world and look, some of this is going to take massaging egos and everything else. But I think in an ideal world, the plan for the jets would be we're going to keep Zach Wilson on the roster and have Aaron Rodgers here for a year or two. Aaron's going to be sort of a mentor to Zack because they have a relationship. And we hope that we are going to have a couple of great years with Aaron Rodgers and create a natural handoff to a guy who a couple of years from now could really benefit from being around Aaron Rodgers. And so this is sort of plan a for them. It's not their only plan. So much of this boils down to what Erin wants to do. And whether Aaron wants to go there. But I think that there's a good sign that they've made progress on that end. And I think the packers will be pretty amenable to this. I would say this too, I'm not sure it's even the cost of a first round pick. So I think the jets are pretty into this. Yeah, so jets could keep their 13th overall, get Aaron Rodgers for a couple of years. And then hand things off to Zach. I mean, and then, of course, have a canyon of heroes parade in the meantime. Sounds great, right? Yeah. That's one way out of their current predicament. But it's a possibility that Rogers is like, yeah, I don't want to do that. I'll just retire a packer or even turn it possible. He turns around and says, yeah, thanks for letting me talk to the jets. I want to come back to you. What do you think? I mean, that's sort of what Favre did. I mean, did say he was out and then after they turned to Rogers, said I want to come back.

"And Patrick Mahomes, one of the things he knows is that if each ever comes to him and says, we need to redo your contract to create cap space or to do whatever. He'll do it. And I think hertz would do the same thing. Last one for you, Peter king. The story I know and I appreciate you calling in getting through this. Last one for you. What do you got for me on the storyline of the off season? What do you think? As we turn the page, the story will be fill in that blank for me. I think the biggest story in the off season is going to be what happens with Lamar Jackson. And I think there's a legitimate chance that, I mean, rich, let's say you as a lifelong fan of the New York Jets, you know that when woody Johnson comes out after the season and says, says, internally quietly, however, he says it. We're going to address the quarterback situation. Well, we all think and I think you think that the number one step would be air and Rogers. If that doesn't work, could the number two step be Lamar Jackson? And this is going to be one of the toughest decisions of franchise in my opinion has had in recent years. For a very simple reason, obviously anybody would want Lamar Jackson to be the quarterback of the team. But how much guaranteed money are you willing to give a player? Who in the last two years has missed 34% of the snaps because of injury. The easy to sit here and say, oh, get Lamar signed Lamar, pay Lamar. Well, that's, of course, but what does that mean exactly? So to me, I think the jets are going to have a very tough decision on their hands. And I think they will go after Rogers if he does play. And if they don't get them, I think they will at least put their sniffers out and seriously consider Lamar Jackson and if as you think and I mean, I think you think this, that he's probably going to be given the franchise tag and the less restrictive one so to see if there are any offers out there that the ravens then would be able to get two first round picks as compensation, you know, let's see what happens with to me, I think finding out whether some team out there is willing to pay Lamar Jackson a jillion dollars, guaranteed, I think that is the story of the off season. And then the Aaron Rodgers is the first domino to fall there because look, I'm sure the jets are enamored by what Nathaniel Hackett can bring to the equation. It can't be lost on him that relationship he has with Rogers when they hire him. If they don't get Rogers, great, they still have a guy who they love, who they think can either turn Zach Wilson around or whatever quarterback they get. But that relationship has got to come for something. Don't you think? The quarterback, you know what, rich, the quarterback market is going to be really a lot of fun because I think that general perception general. And it's early. I mean the draft is ten weeks away, but the general perception is that there is not a no doubt guy in this draft. There are three really good guys in this draft. But there's not an absolutely no doubt guys. So does that mean that Lamar Jackson will be worse more? Does that mean that Baker Mayfield might get a starting job somewhere? And what does that how does Aaron Rodgers impact that? I mean, could Jordan love be Aaron Rodgers circa 2008 and 15 years later, history repeats itself with a quarterback drafted in the 20s who gets the starting job in his fourth year. I mean, there's a lot of real fascinating stories revolving around that position. And I guess I lied just in whatever 62nd you want to wrap it up. Derek Carr's market. It now exists, what's the timetable there do you think? Quick? Fast? What do you think? Well, if I were him, and if I were his agents, what I would be saying is, we have the floor all to ourselves. Right now. And I think the one thing rich, if I were them, I would wait for, as I would wait for the white puff of smoke out of the Aaron Rodgers chimney because if Aaron Rodgers says either I'm not retiring or I'm going to green, I'm going back to Green Bay or whatever it is. Whatever he does after that is known, then there's going to be a lot of clarity as to what cars market is. And I just really think, at the end of the day, I think the saints even though they're in really bad shape capitalize. I think the saints should really try hard to figure out how to get Derek Carr. Because that is a win now offense with a defense that's good enough. Peter, thanks again greatly appreciate a great job. I appreciate you soldiering through it with your voice and let's chat again soon. And I'll see you in indie. Sounds great, rich. Appreciate it. "I don't know where you go from here. And I think this will probably define in some way Robert solace tenure because if you can just, if you can squeeze a couple of wins out of Mike white and Joe Flacco, you can go to woody Johnson at the end of the year and just be like, okay, we coach this team up. Yes, we made a mistake on the QB, but everybody messed up in that draft on the QB. I mean, Kyle Shanahan, not that he messed up, but he's still not using the guy. Get us Jimmy G or someone like that to run this offense. Everything's in place and I promise you ten wins next year. Like we're gonna do this. I think you could probably do that. You could get that kind of inequity. I mean, I think that if you've exhausted all of your efforts, I think it's totally fine to normalize the idea that you gotta cut, you gotta cut this guy loose. And you gotta do what's best for both of them and just get them out of there. And I'm hypercritical of teams that don't try. Like I was hypercritical of the bears with Justin Fields under Matt nagy because you just getting that kid killed. Now, if it still doesn't work out with Justin Fields and what they're doing right now, after next season, okay, go ahead. Part ways. You've done you've done what's best for him. The jets are running one of the most quarterback friendly systems in the NFL. They drafted a receiver who you and I think at least I think is far and away the best receiver in that rookie class, but it's just getting no, there's no opportunities for him to succeed. They have a really good offensive line. They went and got Dwayne brown when there was injuries to the front. They're doing all these things to invest and you last year they allowed your personal quarterbacks coach to be on the staff and paid him. And covered it, which is something that Zach Wilson would have had to have done independently and does do independently now, but

this morning Lovely to be with you on radio Normally we see one another Dan the TV screen But here we are to the top story Russia is considering closing Europe off to gas This would be a dramatic escalation in terms of the weaponization of energy If Russia does this how do you think markets would react and how big a scale escalation would this be Good morning Good morning man as well I think we've seen already a hint about how the market would react I mean there have been threats of reports still of the possibility of blackouts and in countries such as Germany which have a fair amount of energy dependence on Russia really over the last couple of weeks and I think those reports would grow So the question is can Europe avoid recession Can Europe avoid recession even with prices the way they are even without an escalation of this energy supply issue So that is the question there I think if we were to have blackouts I think the question would be they probably can not avoid recession And I think this is why we've seen so many European currencies for instance are really being pummeled pummeled over the last ten days or so So this is a real concern The economic fog because of this crisis is hanging over various different regions but particularly over Europe because of the energy security issue Okay So that is the threat But I mean Russia clearly well aware of this Talk about $300 barrel oil That broadcasting that to the market is a kind of weapon in and of itself What does the ECB do about this Christine Lagarde speaks Thursday Well it's a difficult position for the ECB I think we all understand that We've had the conversations about stack floating We will continue to have the conversations about stack floating So at the possibility of higher inflation at 5% inflation perhaps in Europe for the rest of the year something like that And of course slower growth Now the GCP was already an a balancing act And of course it's even more in a precarious balance in that now So I don't think it can potentially drop the threats that it will have to restrain liquidity will have to provide some tightening in market conditions but of course it needs to balance that with caution because of the war caution because of this recessionary impact So we think what they may do is just give itself flexibility allow for this transition phrase allow the APP purchasing program to become a little bigger over the next couple of months And maybe just put off some of the bigger decisions on policy until a little bit later this year Jane the one thing which is giving some I don't know if you can even use the word floor to the Euro dollar trades this morning and on the crosses let's see if you quick price check there on Euro dollar trading at one O 8 to 86 So it's up ever so slightly And it's on this major story that the ease considering a massive joint bond sales This is for defense and energy Does that create a temporary floor and maybe even a little bit of a guardian shield for the ECB It certainly is good news for the Euro I mean it's reminiscent really of if we go back to the recovery fund at the start of the pandemic This is notion that Europe can actually pull together and have some coherence in fiscal policy I mean if we go back to the 1990s before the start of EMU and the Euro many economists are really concerned how you could have a monetary union without some degree of fiscal union and this has been a headwind all the way really for the Euro and what you would potentially create if you had bonds issued by triple-A issuer is the potential for the Euro to behave more in a safe haven way is somewhere for asset managers to go in terms of buying those bonds having a more liquid market for those bonds in terms of stress So it would be a game changer in terms of the structures behind at the Euro It certainly would structurally improve the outlook for the Euro over the medium and long term However it would not remove these threats that we've been talking about about energy reliance about stagflation except that they would still remain in the near term so it doesn't remove all of those clouds but it does improve the structure of the Euro It's difficult to get a picture of what is happening within Russia on the flip side of this But watching the ruble it's paired most of the gains that we saw this morning It's still a significant gain though today What happens if the isolation the pressure grows if there is if energy is weaponized what happens to the rural can Russia turn to China in any meaningful way I would be very cautious about looking at the price on the screen for the Russian ruble I don't think this is a realistic choice Because many traders in western banks can't trade with their Russian counterparts So what we're seeing is not a liquid market I've heard that the price that it would be offered if you were to do trades is different to the one that's been advertised on the screen That said we have had a conversation really for years at least since the sanctions on Crimea about other nations trying to pull out of the dollar's dominance of the payment system we've seen more invoicing in Russian rubles or at least attempts for that Certainly more invoicing in Chinese and remember the Europeans tried to pull away from the U.S..

"He just continue would make them same mistakes over and over again. So it would be interesting to see you. Joe Brady has fix is the wrong word but got him right. Strong influence evident, uh, influence early, and it's a wrap it all up because it's Wilson. And because it's the Jets, and we've talked about it forever, and Donald expect the best he can security reference on CBS of all time, because I mean, I expect multiple I think it's pretty references, all right. I'm not sure if I fully expect and Arizona Cardinals playoff appearance, however, their general manager Steve Keim, does to the point where he says, and I paraphrase, but not only do I expect to go to the playoffs by expect to go further once we get there now. I've got no problem laying down that kind of a temple in here because the quarterbacks not a rookie head coach is not a rookie. Everybody they brought in this off season is a tried and true battle tested veteran AJ Green, J. J. Watson Mothers. It's a beast of a division. That's why I wouldn't bet on the making it. But there's a point where GM should say that at a point where GM should not. I liked it. Time said that fucking and he has to say this, Cliff Kingsbury. Is a good offensive mind will never take that away from him, however, when he was in college at Texas Tech, he was 35 40. You know, I had one winning season correct example. I think only one winning season when he was in college. He to to winning said to 20 seasons. He comes to the NFL, and we knew that early on, there were going to be some growing pains because the Cardinals were garbage. I mean, they were terrible. First over like for real, exactly. Not a lot of talent. They are remaking the offensive line. There's still kind of trying to remake the office. Of line. Um and they ended up getting the number one overall pick and you mentioned as Kyler Murray. He wins Rookie of the year. You don't forget that he won rookie of the year Colin Murray, and they still kind of didn't win a lot. They were five and 11 that season, so he's now going into his third year. Cliff Kingsbury. He is 13 18 and one And so there's a lot of question marks about when they're going to start advancing. When you have the team kind of put together, right, Kyler Murray is healthy. You mentioned all the free agent acquisitions winning, you gotta win. Now. I think the expectation that Steve Kim is laying out for them, though, might be ambitious because of the division. I mean, San Francisco is going to be good. They got a good defense. All they have done is spent on defense. Their offense is stout in the pre. Even in the preseason. I know where he most of their starter, and we had him on Arctic interning two days and we previewed the 40 Niners. He? He averaged, like seven yards a carry. If it's now it's now it's the main building. That's all. This is the preseason. He goes out of the game. Trey Sherman's averaging more precarious I mean, they they were just dominant, right. The runner scheme is great. It's always been, by the way. This is the scheme. I don't trust for running. That's what I like to hire. I know, so I think there's just there's a lot of competition. Seattle's always going to be good. The Rams are gonna have the top one of the top three or four defenses in football, and Matthew Stafford's there with Robert Woods. Come close. I mean, they're just they're just It's just not easy. No. So I don't see this as yeah, We're making the postseason and we're going far in the postseason. I would heavily pump my brakes on that one agreed. But again, that's different than Whether or not it's it's irresponsible to say it. I'm fucked, like if Woody Johnson came out and said that this year would be well, it's not a response back in your hole. No, it's not irresponsible at all. I think it's just ambitious. If Gettleman said that this year, you know what, all right, third year judge second you Okay? Okay. That's fine. Equitable Division If Ron Riveras talking about Rod Rivera's should say that Certain teams should not ever admit that publicly. The Lions should not say that, but the Cardinals I think that they could. Yeah, I like it. Finally, a little bravado or confidence there, there that their schedule..

I think he landed in the United States. A couple of day actually was last Thursday, and today he was tweeting up a storm, saying he's back. He's met with the new coach and away we go and What he's been out of touch with the team for four years. We're really bad years for the Jets, I might add, and now it'll be interesting to see if he exerts his influence. I wrote this yesterday on ESPN dot com. He's always been known as an owner who likes to make splashy moves, especially at the quarterback position. Happens to be a couple of really good quarterbacks. Looks like they'll be available this offseason, so that'll be a really cool You're in line to follow. How much will he be involved? Because you mentioned being back in terms of day to day and splashy hires how much she really going to be involved with any decisions that Joe does the general manager? The new head coach Salah are going to make regarding the New York Jets, whether the shot watch is a part of this team or not. I think what is not a hands on owner. At least he never was. During his 1st 17 years of ownership. I think he'll let his football people make the decisions. Obviously, they have to run it past him because he is the boss. I mean, he's the guy who's signing the checks, so to speak. So they'll run it past him. And, you know you hope that he left the football people do it, because if you these air complex decisions that involved so many different things. Salary cap. You know what the rest of the league looks like The trade market. And hopefully he leads Joe Douglas do that, But I do know in the past, he has I mean, he was the guy behind the Tim Tebow trade in 2012. He just became fascinated with Tebow and wanted to go and Mike can Obama's GM at the time tried to make his boss happy, and he went out and got Tim Tebow and it turned out to be a you know a brutal decision for the Jets, But so what? Do you let his football people do it? But you know, every once in a while, he could drop a hint in, say, boy, this Shawn Watson Guy looks pretty good in Houston. Rich Cimini. He has mean NFL Nation just report on Friday, and Fitz Simmons on ESPN Radio, the ESPN APP in action Channel 80 and We know that if you're an organization like the Jets, any move you make is gonna be scrutinized. You look at the Super Bowl game involving the Buccaneers and also the cancer. The cheese. You got top bulls from the Jets coach of its coordinated the Buccaneers in the Super Bowl. Steve McLendon, former just defensive tackle in the Super Bowl. Vivian Bell in the symbol for the cancer. You cheat on the Jets, dime and all these guys were really cast aside by the organization. How much of that has played into the mind of Woody Johnson thinking that he has to re establish control to make sure these kind of moves don't continue. Yeah, well, I think would he is the kind of guy you know, want to get things on the right path. And while he's been gone, I'm sure he's been suffering in his castle in London, watching from afar as the Jets have really been a laughing stock over the last three or four years under his younger brother, Christopher Johnson. So you would think he'd want to come back, You know, guns blazing or checkbook blazing. Whatever the case may be to try to get some talent in the building and the names you mentioned, friendly look Hardball's is a really good defensive coordinator. He did a fantastic job yesterday and Lambeau Field. His defense was awesome. But, you know, he was not a good head coach for the Jets. I know it wasn't all his fault. Glenn, I think you know he was 20 games below 504 years. And lay beyond Bel he's done. I mean, the Jets got rid of them because he was not a productive running back, and his salary was enormous. And you've seen with Kansas City. He really hasn't done much. Steve McClendon. You know That was another situation when the Jets got rid of a guy during their fire sale, and Steve God bless him. He's a great leader. I'm happy for him. I wouldn't be surprised if he retires after this year, but he was at the end of the road and the Jets were able to tow. Extract. I think it was 1/6 round draft pick in the 22 draft, So I don't blame the Jets for those guys leaving, But I do think that would he will try something to get this on the right path, and it may send around the two quarterbacks. We know the one that John Watson unhappy in Houston and the lines and Matthew Stafford. They're going to part ways. What do you think the Jets will lean to in terms of if we're going to move on from Sam, Donald, we have to go with this guy. I don't think match. The effort is Thick for the Jets, and I'd be surprised if they went after him. He's 33. Two years left on his contract with 43 million. He's perfect for a team that's in contention like the 40 Niners or the cold for a team like that, or even even the Steelers..

"It has certainly been a few weeks. Yes for national politics. As I conclude my term as the 45th, president of the United States, we not only dream we do We not only see what has been We see what can be to hell. We must remember. It's hard sometimes to remember, but also for a lot of sports teams in our region. There have been big moves in basketball, baseball and football. Wi See Jim O'Grady broke down the Big New York sports News for the latest episode of Consider This. It's a news podcast by NPR and W and my see here he is in conversation with Danny Lewis. Okay, Jim. There's been a lot going on with New York City's teams, so let's spin through a few of them. You ready? Yeah, let's go. All right, Let's start with one of our football teams. The New York Jets after a dismal season, they have a new coach. They do have a new coach. His name is Robert Sala, and he's the first Muslim American head coach in NFL history. And he has a very hard job. That dismal season you refer to the Jets started out on a major losing streak, and then all they had to do was continue losing. If they had finished last, they would have gotten the first draft pick, But the Jets can't even lose right. Another thing owner Woody Johnson, he's the heir to the Johnson and Johnson pharmaceutical empire. He has returned from England. Where he was Donald Trump's ambassador to the United Kingdom, and now reports are that Woody Johnson, owner of the Jets, is going to be more hands on with the organization. That's probably not good because Johnson is a plutocrat, who has presided over one of the most dismal and failure filled franchises in all of American sports. And now what is he going to do? He's going to doom or of that. So I'm very sorry. Jets fans. I'm very sorry for you. All right now, second question and number one on a lot of basketball fans. Minds has got to be the Brooklyn Nets new lineup, right? Yeah, it's amazing. The Nets pulled off a 14 deal to land 31 year old shooting guard James Harden. ESPN is called him the NBA's best scorer since Michael Jordan, although to you know, prime away from the Houston Rockets, where he was unhappy, the Nets give up two very good players and their first round pick in the next seven. Drafts. But you know this has become a major tactic for teams that want to take their shot at the championship. They pack the superstars together on one team, and they try to go for it. All right now, So now the Nets have harden, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, three of the best players in the NBA. What will that be enough for them to get to the finals where they'll face Let's say LeBron James and the Lakers. Maybe. All I can say is Brooklyn wants a championship ring. The Nets are trying to get it now. All right, let's go to baseball. This week, The New York Mets fired their general manager, Jared Porter, just days after ESPN reported that in a previous job, he'd sent dozens of unsolicited texts and lewd photos to a female reporter. That seemed to happen really fast. What do you make of it? And and also, what does that shake up mean for the team going to spring training? Yeah. What can you make of this? This is a terrible story on dim. It's they did the right thing they fired in order immediately. He harassed a woman in 2016 while he was working for the Cubs, and there's obviously There's just no excuse for that. Before the scandal broke, though Porter was seen as this savvy baseball guy with an eye for talent. And a grasp of the advanced statistics that more and more rule the game of baseball. So he was touted as part of this new era for the team until his downfall. The Mets recently got a new owner, They got their own plutocrat in billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen. On. He came in promising to spend money on really good top flight players, which Mets fans are not used to from the previous regime. And then this Porter scandal sort of knocked all that off kilter so all the team can do is try to go forward. Assembly is good a team as they can and try to win on the field. And I'm just now realizing how many of our teams only have one letter difference in their name. That's Jets Mets, baby. Before I let you go. We got to talk about the Buffalo Bills game on Sunday. They're trying to get to the Super Bowl for the first time since the early 19 nineties. Any predictions all say is the Jets and the Giants won eight games altogether this last season. The Buffalo Bills. 1 13 games. Five more games. They are in a major role, and this might be their year. They haven't tremendous quarterback in Josh Alan. And don't be surprised if they make it into the Super Bowl and even win the whole thing I say. Go Buffalo bills. That's W in my sees Jim O'Grady in conversation with Danny Lewis. Huh? Good evening, everybody. You're listening to W When my C.

"On the sports leader. Logan was knocked back a hole into the game. There's a miss sack opportunity Donald able to slip out of that goes to his left and throws caught for a touchdown to Barrios as he beat a killer Witherspoon. Arnold looked like he was gonna get sacked What was able to get out of it, Tim and stay alive and rolled to his left and threw a touchdown. The Jets Only touch down to the game today where the Niners might won that game. But that was the one that hurt the most lost Nick motion. That one Solomon. That's where most of got her. Jimmy got hurt in that game. But we're not going to talk about that with the rich media were to talk about. Robert Salas got a second interview with the Jets. The Jets obviously of the second pick in the draft, so there's a lot around the Jets as well. But there's a bunch of Doug Peterson rumors as well. And your pal Rich Cimini covers the Jets for ESPN. And he joins us, courtesy of the Yuma Guess on high rich. How are you? Hey, guys. Thanks for having me. I hope everything is doing well out there. Everything's great a long way from the daily Orange, which you wrote two years ago when I was back at W a year, and here we are again we had you on. You know, Before that Chet's 40 Niners game We talked about Sam Darnel. But the news now is that Robert Sala and I know that Joe Douglas interviewed a bunch of people and he did it remotely with the 40. Niners Current D c on Friday, But they are flying him to Florin Park. I guess today for a Interview tomorrow Rich What do you know about solid being the first of all the long list of candidates? I think they interviewed all the all the hot names initially, but Masala right now the top candidate would you say, since he's the first to get that that second interview Yeah, Greg, I do think he is their top candidates. You know, they interviewed nine guys, and they pretty much interviewed the same guys. Everybody else was interfering. You know, it seems like a musical chairs game that goes on this time a year. And, you know, maybe they had one or two different ones, but pretty much the same. And Robert was a guy that they were high on before the initial interview, And then my understanding is, you know, he did really well in the virtual interview, which is course we're doing things nowadays. And he is coming in. And you know the Jets really like him. Someone told me that he's the front runner. Whether he gets the job is another story, but he's a guy in demand right now. I think six out of the seven teams looking for a head coach Have expressed some degree of interest in him. So it's a competitive situation. Which makes me think that jets, you know, I know they like Arthur Smith. Is well. The tenant, Tennessee offensive coordinator and Brian Table all the Bills offensive coordinator. But maybe if they get a little nervous, maybe they make a move to try to lock up Robert right away. It's a meanie joins us covers the Jets for ESPN. Logically, you would think, especially when Doug Peterson became available. Joe Douglas, of course, comes over from the Eagles. You got Sam Donald, You want to develop a young quarterback? So why would they go to the defense of side of the ball given all those factors? Yeah, It's a good question. And you know, when we asked assumes the season was over, and they fired out of gays, You know the kids. You're looking, and they're right that they need a leader right now. They don't need, you know, quote unquote guru on the offensive side. They tried that with Adam Gaze. It was It was an unmitigated disaster. I mean, they went 1923, and they finished 32nd offense both years. And so that's not to say they couldn't hire another offensive guru. But I think what they feel like now is the culture is so lacking in the organization. There's such a black cloud over this team, which hasn't made the playoffs in 10 years that they feel they need a dynamic personality. A leader a good communicator, someone who connect with all parts of the building all parts of the team, whether it's offense, defense special teams. All things that were lacking under gays. They feel that's what they need. So they're looking forward to use the cliche, the CEO type of coach and they feel Robert would be would kill all those check all those boxes. And you mentioned a black cloud over the organization and it starts at the highest level, and that would be ownership. So what is going on with with Woody Johnson? Is he gonna come back and run the day to day? Of the organization when when Robert goes into Florin Park, Obviously Joe Douglas interview room is the second part. Who do you think represents? Ownership. Is that what you're Charles Johnson Rich? Yeah, So the weather I'm doing there's been three people during the interviews has been the deep the GM, the team president, and Christopher Johnson, who is the CEO and the younger brother of Woody Johnson. Answer your first question. Yes, Woody Johnson is coming back. You know, for those of your listeners who may not know what he is currently serving as the United States Ambassador, the United Kingdom You know what Donald Trump appointee? And that, of course, is ending in a few days..

What envoy's downfall tells us about UK-US relations
"We're looking at the crisis. In Anglo American relations following the resignation of Britain's ambassador to Washington Kim Derek who'd been denounced by the the American President Donald Trump as a pompous fool amongst other things joining me on the line from Washington D._C.. Is Our U._S.. National Editor Edward Loose and here in the studio is Jeff Dyer who was Washington correspondent for many years ed first of all. I was just reading an article which would say this is a low point in U._S. U._k.. Relations one of the lowest ready in the postwar period. We're in the midst of the events but do you think that sounds like a feathered. Yeah I mean I wouldn't put it on this guy that suicide nineteen fifty six and of course one or as Johnson comes prime minister seeming he does become prime minister will at least band sort of temporary revival of warm legs between from Britain's prime minister because he's a backer of jokes has been openly scathing Theresa May yes. It's unprecedented to have a president chase a British ambassador out of town like this. It's caused the shots here and I think the fact that the rest of Washington other than the president and some of the henchman around and is shocked you know as everybody else shows there is probably still quite a deep underlying strength of a bias there and we'll to feeding towards Britain yeah just give us a sense of that that unto recap for those who haven't followed. The story what happened was that succumbs diplomatic cables private diplomatic cables were leaked. They said some fanny unflattering things about the trump administration but then the president went ballistic when you say there is <hes> shock in Washington. There is a census there the president trump has overstepped him up because he oversteps all day doesn't he he does I think most people in Washington have been entertained the British residence many times that a web because they see who else is there at the parties and receptions and so forth but the the trump administration senior officials including jared Ivanka John Bolton during the station's defending off at enforce as well and that the idea that for that can dr is some kind of each state anti-trump A._M.. He's not being a neutral diplomat is seen as complete nonsense and have been sort of multi by most people in Washington so I think there's a great deal of sympathy bath. They know that Matt Trump many times when trump tweets out but he's never have a matching that that's false. I think they feel it's a different scale when it's done to a close allies when trump is knifing domestic plan. There's there's a sort of level of embarrassed but in a way quite reassuring well just but of course it comes at a time mm-hmm of great uncertainty British politics and some might think that the Khuda grass for Kim Derek came when in a leadership debate Boris Johnson who's likely to be the next prime minister quite noticeably refused to back him exactly I think rather than a crisis anglo-american relationship this demonstrates that just had diminished politics in both of our countries are at the moment I mean the overwhelming impression of this is the crushing smallness of Donald Trump as president. Here's the man who's the most powerful politician in the world old and chargers powerful military in the world these unable to see his office except through the prism of personal slights and through his bruised ego the revelations in these leaked cables was Kim dire talking about the insecurity of the trump administration and there's no greater demonstration. Demonstration that insecurity in the way the president this week but also British poltics comes out of this episode look incredibly small and diminished and Boris Johnson's behavioral that debate was the biggest example of that where by not defending the British ambassador who did nothing other than what his job is supposed to do. He has let himself and let the country be pushed around be bullied and have its foreign policy shaped by another country striking example of just how or strengthen brexit ears think this is about standing up for Britain taking control how the force of events events is actually giving his ever less control over what is trying to do and in a sense. This is not an isolated incident. It's particularly shocking because it's the United States but in past year and a bit you've had the Russians murdering people on the streets of Britain. You've had the Chinese he's telling the British to get back in their box Hong Kong and over hallway. You have very poor relations with the E._U.. Because of Brexit it does feel as if somehow the rest of the world is sensing that now's the time you can push Britain around that is the impression that ah that's a a very bad situation for post brexit. The new governor Boris Johnson if he does manage to leave the Tober thirty-first as first thing he wants to do is to revive the anglo-american relationship provide the special relationship of the call it and push for a very strong free trade deal between the U._K.. And the U._S. but the dynamic we've seen here is that actually the use is quite happy. President trump is quite happy to slap burden around. He has no particular attachment to any of these old relationships these old alliances and Britain enters. There's into these negotiations and a very very weak position where it's desperate to have a free trade deal with America and we have a very protectionist America first president who's very keen to drive the hardest possible bargain they can and to squeeze and is that that's exactly what you expect will occur if when these much-vaunted trade talks start gather Liam Fox the Brits Trade Secretary was actually in Washington this week yes and came you know decided not to accompany already Ma'am this invited to a steak dinner for the America. Her and getting accompanied them folks to see if I could trump the president's daughter this new columnist or even I'm serious. I'm not that I know who thinks that a trade deal between the U._K.. And the U._S. is a practical aspect of the next couple of years the the MOMS that the trump administration would happen the these are being fairly well fleshed out already would just be politically unpalatable any British prime minister whoever that may be would be unsuitable to the British and that is even presupposing it could to get through Congress. If there's no deal brexit on October thirty first and Democrats kind of representatives would lock any trade deal that resulted from it on the grounds that it would wreck the Irish Good Friday Agreement and you've got a lot of prominent Irish Americans in Congress Shooting Ritchie Neil Chairman of the ways and Means Committee which is the key one for trade deal who said if Good Friday goes up there will be no trade deal so the prospects by medically and economically for U._S. U._K.. tracheal of very very snip and just reverting briefly to this question of the behavior of ambassadors. It's quite striking isn't that actually a lot of Mr. Trump's ambassadors have been much more openly in violation of normal diplomatic norms than Kim dark it was the ambassador in in Germany has more or less openly quartered far-right forces in Europe. Yeah I mean that's the great irony of this woody Johnson in London Rick Grenell Gordon Something Brussels. These people have been agitating against the host governments with the one great exception. If David Cone Beam in Hungary it was blatantly over the pro or back Kim different actually breach any rules these lose that were breached with to leak confidential classified cables to the Daily Mail what he said in those cables with pretty mild in comparison to what American ambassadors didn't cables whatever the well about their government when the wikileaks Chelsea Manning dump my cut several years ago so Kim down actually. Actually hasn't broken any rules or even at anything particularly strong in confidence as you say. There's a great irony and Jeff. I mean presumably we can take on trust the idea that it's going to be slow going on a U._S. U._K.. Trade deal but Boris Johnson and will seek to align himself much more closely with trump administration what areas might he do that in China's and obvious one the trump administration is trying to push much more aggressive posture against China particularly technology so that's one in particular area but I mean ultimately if bortles not become prime minister will all come down to the first few months and whether he can get some sort of breaks deal everything is going to be focused around these first few weeks or months and the brexit negotiations. I think a lot of stuff will be secondary and so the question Asian is can he somehow go to Brussels and come back with some sort of compromise not withdrawal agreement but maybe in the political declaration that attached to the Dole agreement that he can sell as a compromise from Brussels and push a deal through parliament so so while he will make some gestures and some areas I think towards the U._S.. Really everything will be dominated around the the brexit deal and how he tries to push through parliament and ED. I mean this pops to begin to wind up in striking isn't it however the trump administration in some senses has made itself player in the brexit talks trump's stream of abusive tweets included criticism of Theresa May for not delivering Brexit ignoring trump's advice on how to handle the negotiations and one gets the sense is that the trump administration would see quite relish kind of violent rupture between the U._k. and the E._U.. I think that's absolutely right. It's not just trump you see e you as a geopolitical rival as before is John Bolton John Bolton Overseas Germany is the e U and he's being very openly scathing about Germany so it's across the trump administration might compare sectors stay gave a really sort of markedly anti e._U.. Speech in Brussels late last year. There is an undisguised as to see the E._U.. break-up fail for many reasons both and has his own reasons to do with week international organizations and spend much on defense trump thinks that this sort of towel to rip the Pulse America in terms of trade and of course all kinds of people around him who are strong ideological supporters of the likes of Dick to Obam Montana Salvini and Nigel for <hes> so I think this is over time into the trump administration hates the E._U.. And last point than you mentioned Nigel Garage Alec Task Both of you were speculating but it will now as as matter a great deal who Britain appoints as the next ambassador to Washington will it be a standard issue diplomat or will Boris Johnson insist on putting in a political appointee who can suck up to the trump administration more effectively. Somebody like Nigel Ferraz de think it's possible that figure like for our Gopher Jeff I mean publicly Boris Johnson campaign have ruled out some unlike garage but you can can imagine them having conversations amongst themselves whereby the Conservative Party actually faces a very very strong threat from the brakes of Party ferocious party which is essentially a one man band all revolves around the personality and character of Nigel Farage as you can imagine some of his advisers may be tossing around the idea of what we sent him to Washington that actually just spikes the bricks at party that really leaves the way open for Boris Johnson government to dominate the right of British politics but having said that if you weren't actually that he would really because so much ill will among civil service amongst the bureaucracy amongst other people in the Conservative Party. He'll be seemed to be selling out in such a way to more far-right position that I don't think even he would go that far ED. What's your view and I think that's probably right Farraj of course for the same reason I would be to send for charities from my statistical getting rid of her rival point of view Farraj will be dumb to accept it but Farraj loves being in this town? He loves frequenting the trump international. He loves himself.
