"Hey Doc, welcome back. I hope you're doing good. I am. I am with you on the casting call there. Well, actually, you know, Rock Hill was just famously beautiful and not a bad actress actually, so you'd think, hey, go with vaux, but Marianne was perfect for Marianne, wasn't she? Maybe Ginger, I think. That could have worked maybe we could have had Rock Hill just make an occasional visit to the show. They always had people visiting the island, but we digress. We do digress. I think we should move on to something medical now. Well, I got to tell you just a real quick thing, you know, I shared with you not, but last week I guess it was, how COVID hit members of my family, and it's even more of them have contracted COVID. Once again, independently of each other, independent of each other. I don't know what's going on out there. Doctor, it seems like I continue to find people who are getting a second round of or getting caught up in a second wave of COVID-19. No question. It's estimated there's at least a 100,000 new infections a day. In the United States. 100,000. And we're still losing about 400 people a day who are dying. So anybody who thinks that virus is totally done with us, it's not. Now, we're all living our lives and that's great. But we have to be realistic that the virus is still there and people are still getting infected. Is your is your experience shows? Jen, how's your mom doing by the way? Yes, she was on Remdesivir for about three or four days at a hospital. They kept her there and now she's back in her senior living facility and it's down the cafeteria with everybody else. She's past the contagious point, et cetera. Lord knows they're extremely cautious about it there, but she's doing okay. Yeah, that's great. And as we talked about last week, she's a great example of the benefit of being fully vaccinated, particularly when you're older. You know, that all of the experience knows showing that older people in particular benefit greatly compared to people who are not who are not vaccinated of the same age. And I don't care what Woody Harrelson and some of these other people have to say. We just know that from experience now. That's a fact, it's not there's no opinion anymore. If you're older, please be fully vaccinated. Woody Harrelson's monologue was so 2020 anyway, it wasn't that germane. I don't think it was that funny. And of course it was outrageous, which maybe he wants to be, but it was dumb. It was inaccurate. You know, I mean, the inference that, hey, this is the government pushing a drug on people so that the government or the pharmacy pharmacological companies will continue to make money, that was the thrust of it and there was a piece of CNN talking about how much a disservice some celebrities have done to our general health, and they pointed to people like Aaron Rodgers, Novak Djokovic, Eric Clapton Rand Paul Tucker Carlson, et cetera, they said those tweets generated a total of 16.3 million likes and who knows how much damage they did. Yeah, I just wish people would use their fame for good things and that's not using your fame for good things. And I know they can't help themselves. Woody Harrelson is a very smart sophisticated guy. I read that after his monologue, he was trending on Twitter. And I think that's really what he wanted. Any publicity is better than no publicity and that's what he wanted to do. He knew that he would he would be trending on Twitter. If he said that. And it's what it was silly, the call Pfizer and Moderna a drug cartel, which he did. It's just not right. Pfizer and Moderna are jointly responsible for saving tens of millions of lives around the world. So let's merge them for what they did. And we lived through a time of a biomedical miracle, as I said, was lifesaving. Hey, John Williams, hey, doctor, thank you for the show. I'm a 71 year old male. Is it okay to get a singles shot and a booster close to the same time I'm healthy, thank you very much. I did that. Not that I'm a 71 year old male, but I got them. Well, did I get them at the same time? Anyway, I got them both. Boy, that shingle shot knocked the shingles out of me too, doctor. That's what I was going to say. The shingle shed absolutely connect the shingles out of people. So I wouldn't get the two at the same time. Because you're probably not going to feel great from the shingles shot. I suspect you'll is a 71 year old healthy guy. You'll tell a rate to booster for COVID just fine. So please get that. You're 71 and after you're feeling okay after you've gotten the booster for COVID, go ahead and get the shingle shot. That really is a good idea. Are you interested in the energy department saying that COVID-19 most likely emerged from a lab leak, they're still trying to figure out how COVID got into the world. What's your thought about all that? Yeah, Jen, you and I, we've chatted about this before in the past and how difficult it is to definitively say what the origin of COVID-19 is, a lot of that is because the Chinese just clamped down on any dissemination of information from Wuhan right after the discovered the virus. So remember when the World Health Organization shortly after the beginning of the pandemic sent a group to investigate, they were kept in the group was kept in quarantine for two weeks and they weren't given any of the information that they wanted. That's a problem. And the Chinese still have not released the information that the world needs to know what's really going on. So this report from the Department of Energy that originates actually from the Lawrence Livermore national laboratory. Why energy department? I think this is important for our listeners to know the energy department

"The movies this weekend, hardly your average sports movie, champions, starring Woody Harrelson is about a former minor league basketball coach ordered by the court to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. It's impossible to coach these guys. You don't have to turn them into the Lakers. They just need to feel like a team. The coach soon realizes that his players are coming together to form something truly special. Film critic Christian toto tells WTO's Dimitri sodas that champions has a lot of heart. It is uplifting. It is funny at times, and it doesn't make fun of these characters. In fact, they're scene stealers. The cast here, I haven't seen them before. I don't know how many films they've had previously, but boy, when they have a punch line when they've got a funny bit to kind of go through, they just nail it. So and of course, you've got Woody Harrelson as the coach who's troubled and trying to rediscover his life and his career. It's a very formulaic movie. There are not many surprises here. But I think that's okay because when the formula is done well and it's uplifting and funny and you want a rah rah rah at the end, it's exactly what you demand from this kind of movie. Harrelson is excellent as always. I think it's one of our better actors and a bit underappreciated at times, but I think the entire package here is what works so well. I think they could have gone a little deeper into the romance angle Caitlin Olson plays his love interest and she's from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I think that's good, but not as good as it could have been. And I even think they can soften the edges of harrelson's character where he should have been a little bit more grumpy a little bit more of a crusty soul, but those are quibbles. This is sweet storytelling. And I had a great time watching champions. Some people may have lost track of all the scream movies that of course began with such a big splash back in the 90s. I believe we're up to number 6 here. I should quickly add that in addition to some scares perhaps the original film made a lot of commentary about culture and stuff. It was a very meta as we like to say, are they keeping that going as well? They sure are and I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of franchise for the reasons you say because I think a lot of that commentary that insider speak is played out. We've kind of heard all the references in the nuances. I don't think the horror has changed so dramatically that we need more scream films, but if we're going to get them, why not scream 6? This one is fun. It's diverting as quickly pace has a very attractive young cast, not just namespaces that you don't mind if they can't take it out by ghostface, but they're very compelling. So I think this film has a lot of the flaws of the previous films, the reveals aren't that convincing. There's lots and lots of plot holes, but I think it's packaged very well together. So I think if you're a fan of the franchise, you'll have a blast. There is some new commentary. It doesn't really comprise much of the movie, but overall, for a 6th installment, I didn't love the last screen. I kind of like this one. That's Christian toto of Hollywood in toto dot com talking with WTO's Dmitri sodas

"Mechanic, a mechanical excruciatingly flat mechanical try hard, reviewers at his book is so stiff, stiff, it reads like a politician's memoir turned out by a chat GPT. The book is courageously free of anything that resembles charisma or discernible sense of humor. Desantis can rail all he wants about wokeness, but it can't distract from quote the dull coldness of the book's core, even the title is an awkward fainted boldness while clinging to the safety of cliche. I mean, we just, I don't know, whatever the latest poll is, Trump beats him among Republicans by 30 points. I love it 2 billion points. I mean, it just, don't you feel like we're having a flashback? Like, oh my God. And even if he is in prison, and nominate him again, right? Oh, yeah. Can he be president from his jail cell? MTG will go visit him on her knees and wash his feet like Jesus. Yeah. This reviewer, they're saying what we've been saying, desantis quickly mastered the negative side of maga politics, but he decidedly lacks people skills, political wrote, desantis simply lacks charm. He is in keen on the retail side of selling his politics to the public that Trump seems to crave. I mean, speaking of grifters, you just can not believe they're going to fall for this cheap grifter again. Donald Trump. But so far, right? Who should be in prison? Yeah. And who was pro vaccine? Right. I developed a vaccine faster than anybody else, and now I am. You shouldn't take it, but I invented it myself. I get credit for the thing I'm telling you not to take, okay? Oh my God. What are we talking about? Woody Harrelson. Wasn't he also talking about the big pharmaceuticals and why won't they let you have Ivermectin and what's the other stupid thing that doesn't work? People like him and Jimmy dore can't answer for why pediatricians give their own children the vaccine. You know why? 'cause they're not paranoid. What's the other thing? Pounds of pot smoking actors. Is that the is that the which wasn't the horse one? And hydroxychloroquine. He was like, why won't they because they don't work? Because oh my God. They don't get it. Yeah. This is him on Bill Maher talking about Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine. Listen to this, play cut ten. I think they've done a lot of studies about vitamin D and how important it was when the people who had low levels, they were much more vulnerable to COVID. Why not tell people that? Can't you make money selling vitamin D? Because at that, what's the worst that could happen? There was only one thing, you know, Ivermectin got made into a horse tranquilizer horse, whatever it is. Which it is, but also used by humans. Hydroxychloroquine got made ridiculous. And there was only one thing that could work and that's the vaccine, right? And so ultimately, because of that. Billions of dollars was made. The last people I would trust with my health is big pharma and big government because neither one of those strike me as caring entities. And that is, that is exactly what happened. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. It also just, it was so illuminating to me. How strong how well funded how organized? The pharmaceutical cartel state that we live in. How effective their PR operation is to counter. This happened on a Saturday evening. And by lunch on Sunday, there was a massive articles countering, smearing and slandering woody. One after the other, after the other, after the other. And I do want to just mention a little bit about woody's past because I do find it very interesting. And then we are going to get to the Katie Hobbs story. And then we're going to get to the fetterman story. There's a lot of news and potential news over the last weekend. So let me just go to cut 8. This is what he's family. He's just interesting. Play cut 8. When you were 7 years old, your father went off to prison, convicted of murder. Well, he is in prison right now for the killing of a federal judge I think that it was not a fair trial. Especially because the guy who supposedly hired my father to commit the murder was later acquitted on a retrial. What he do you think your father is innocent of that second murder? That's what I've heard. I'm not saying my father's the same, but I think he's innocent of that. And did Woody Harrelson's father work for the CIA? Does woody know something about how our government works? Probably play cut 9. You said once that you thought that your father was a CIA operative. Yes? He was. How do you know? What proof? I shouldn't get into this right now. This is where we're going to get into trouble. But this is something that you feel and that you're trying to work on? I know, it's true, but does it make a difference? That he was trained by the CIA? Yeah, I think it makes a difference. Yeah. Just interesting. We're getting a lot of emails about the Katie Hobbs story. Let me just briefly mention this and then we'll talk about it. We're getting hundreds of not thousands of emails on the Katie hubs. Okay. So over the weekend, they were allegations that began to surface and be made against Katie Hobbs potentially and allegedly laundering cartel money and the entire racketeering scheme allegations. Let me just say yes, we've seen all the stuff that you have. And we're looking into it. And apparently the allegation is that she took money to also bribe judges. Now, this is some pretty serious stuff. Now, we're taking it very seriously, but to be clear, these are massive allegations brought against basically the entire state of Arizona and their public officials. And so we need a lot of time to look into this and we definitely are and some people aren't even mentioning it, but I have a duty and obligation to you to let you know because this is a huge allegation. Massive, if true, as they say, and if being the most important in operative word. But as Wendy Rogers said in her statement, the allegations were not made in the appropriate venue for a criminal investigation to take place. So for right now they are allegations. And a lot of people get allegations of things they didn't do. I certainly don't. But I believe every Democrat establishment Republican should be profiled..

"Blunt almost stupid, obviousness of it. To be funny and also a little bit of send up of more quote unquote sophisticated movies trying to comment on these ideologies and the rich people. I found this to be more engaging than, say, the menu, which is like a pretty similar. And I mean, the menus very enjoyable, and it also a very obvious eat the rich satire with just that it's kind of is what it is on the label. And I don't know, the extra Ness of it was probably very cynical, but also very funny to me. Yeah, I think the middle part is the funniest part. And I found myself laughing at stuff that I don't know if they ever thought it was going to be funny. She comes down and she goes, and they go, you know, we have to get the captain they want everybody to take a swim. How would you just let them swim? Other guy goes, ha ha, laugh. She's like, what are you doing? Get to work. And I'm just laughing at the movie. It really put me in this weird world that exists but kind of doesn't. Like, it worked for me in a way. And also, that's the only part that has Woody Harrelson in it who, you know, it's wonderful. Yeah, it's already Harold. Like really, really good in the movie. I just think for some reason, and I want to ask you about something, Sean. I compare this movie to something. Because I recently watched Babylon again. Hell yeah. You're going to say you loved it. No, you didn't love it. You thought it was the best movie of the year. So that's going to be the decade. So this is the thing about Babylon that I do get. "30% off your purchase that's 30% off at Joybird dot com, forward slash matters. You almost got a part on Will & Grace that ultimately went to Woody Harrelson and you also auditioned for the role of Michael Scott in the office. You didn't get either, but your audition created the seed for the casting director that became your character Ron Swanson in parks and rec. And is it true that when you got the call from your producer, make sure you sobbed for 30 minutes upon hearing you got the role? I mean, 30 minutes might be, it may have been more like 28 minutes. Professionally, it was all of the parts that I didn't get for so many years paid off so powerfully with such an emotional catharsis because all of those other roles weren't right. You know, it would have been wonderful to get a cool part on a show, but we've seen the examples you've cited, the reason I didn't get the roles is because there were better people and finally the role found me that no one ostensibly could have done better. So life clicked in for me at age 38, I think I was. It was like the end of The Lord of the Rings or something where I was like, oh my God, it all makes sense. Everything Gandalf ever said to me, suddenly hit home. And so I had a very emotional gratitude filled reaction. You played Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation for all of the show's 7 seasons to great acclaim. You won the television critics association award for individual achievement.

"And even in the comics, he finds another way. Like he's Batman. If he can't find it another way, he's not Batman anymore. If he kills someone , he's not Batman anymore. It invalidates everything he did up to that point. And he will and everything he stands for. Exactly. So that renders everything about it meaningless. Yeah. And it's like the one thing that you have to kind of keep sacred in that. And if you don't, you've ruined Batman. Agreed. Agreed. You know, like, so it's like, for anybody that's like, you know, even when it was like for Justice League and Snyder was like, yeah, in the real world Batman would kill. And I'm like, yo, man, this isn't the real world. In the real world, nobody would dress up like a bat and go fight crime. Can you imagine? Oh my God. What are you making documentaries? You dick? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, we do that. We do. It's so fun. Absolutely. Yeah, we're gonna watch venom. I haven't seen the first one. But really, not at all. I wanted to wait until I like it when I have a line up of there a series I like to have them all. So I can watch them. But since let there be kind of just coming out, I figured. Yeah, might as well. "Not the greatest thing in the world but again people don't go to see many of these superhero movies to go see cutting edge entertainment. That's going to go ahead and win an oscar. My this is something that they're going to go ahead. Turn off your and he had some popcorn type fun. This is something that. I'm really happy about in regards to woody harrelson because it's so great to see someone who you gotta remember out there people. This is a guy who started an acting in cheers in the early eighties and still forty years later. Almost is still not only just as relevant but even more so appearing all these big box office films. So i wanna hear your thoughts melinda on this venom. Let there be carnage. How do you think that's going to go over with an audience. Do you think it's going to do well. I know the circumstances are perfect and again it was moved all over the place but still can't find a home with movie goers i mean even bad movies find homes with movie-goers sometimes when a movie is getting the worst reviews. You almost have to go to see if it's as bad as everyone is saying. It is unfortunately the feeling that i'm getting from all of the reviews that i've read also to be fair. I would go and sit in a theater for two hours. And watch tom hardy. Pick his nose for two hours. So i'll probably gonna go see it despite any unreasonable..

"Woody harrelson that i caught when i was on vacation and i saw like mexican tv and i was just like this is funny fucking shit. I love this movie and woody harrelson again. It's like a bad woody. Harrelson movie is better than a goods. Whoever movie a lot of times yeah kind of the same thing for pierce brosnan. So those two together like yeah. This is great but man. Yeah that november man yeah. It was released on trauma. It's the story of a director very much like paul williams a former sixties radical who decides to Assassinate george bush. And pretend that he's just making a movie about assassinating george bush and in doing it. They go and actually film. George bush at like a sneak in borat style and film george bush with the secret service all around so it really feels like they could really get busted. It just has this weird tone of. It's it's a comedy but it also is has incredible teeth two it really it really a film that like like mad dog time one that i found in a bin and then just haven't been able to let go of for years so i hope you check it out. It looks like it's just going to be something that's entertaining. Yeah it looks it. Does you know what i mean. He's going to be it. Looks like it's going to be along the lines of like how the first suicide squad movie was not particularly good for a laugh. I didn't get all the hate. Dot gov because i enjoyed it. It was but it was crap. Yeah at the end of the day. But now that we've seen that little bit more of carnage like. I'm excited to see what he looks in a really good job of it to be the way like the look the in of instaflex most things. I'm i'm so used to woody harrelson being like the bow of the jokes and it looks like we're getting a little bit more from him this time which that's what i'm excited to say islamic sense. Yeah it looked. I know we've seen in for seconds raila. But he looks like he's he's doing some acton this in it just like oh it's a page and remove villainous yet. It's better that's what we kind of stand like and look i. I'm a big woody harrelson fan. So that's good. He's not as optimistic. That's not the right word. Killing he'll class it up. Unless you. But i'll see someone. I like venom. Sounds like vincent enough real men in black artist. Shaw that guy yeah. That's tom hardy. Doing the voice. I don't know. I don't know if he's doing like an over exaggerated but his voice voice he uses eddie brock. Odd people everybody heart. He's been doing all sorts of weird voices for the last five years capone. The game has called shomali feud it's like family feud but but to me this new like that game. We had a love this. I love this one all right. Here's basically how this is gonna work. I know it's not to families. It's three individuals competing. So we'll start with. Ben david i will ask. A family feud style question and i have told a hundred people and broken down the percentages of the people who responded to each of the answers that i will give you an advance and then first person on person picks from the remaining cetera. That's why i each hit to go first. It'll be three rounds and we'll do a tiebreaker. If we have to so fun. When this one i think we should go back and listen to the tape but i think that you said that a couple times when you have proceeded to win. Well you're very. You're very home as where your lowers the sticks for himself so he connects right. That's how you do it. You tell everybody. I'm gonna lose then when he's like well i didn't see coming. Yeah i pull coal number. Yeah who. I don't have a methodology behind us. God sounds like something hustler. Color money all over again but it's in the way they use it all right here. We i is bending. He gets to go first in question. I asked under people which star of three billboards outside ebbing missouri gets the most parking tickets in real life. Is it sam rockwell. Woody harrelson francis mcdormand or peter. Woody harrelson people answered this poll as if they have an opinion on this just wind question it. So i'm guessing the opinion of the people you polled just to clarify is just asked that question which possibly know the answer to and this is their By vote everybody had to pick one of those four and who got the biggest percentage. That's the most points you can get is. Okay thing that person. Woody harrelson You're gone woody harrelson okay. So that leaves. Frances mcdormand sam rockwell. Peter linkage would say you jona ray while i mean for instance mcdormand super down but she seems like she might be scatter-brained in that department Ads but at the same time if people voting they might go for peter in college. So i'm i'm gonna go with peter linkage because elson destroyed. People voted for him the most because he's like a donor. Okay that theory paget. Glad we dig lynch why because you think france is going to be a higher up. Well i think sam rockwell and peter Live in new york city and probably don't have cars and probably don't get tickets. And i think francis mcdormand just doesn't give a fuck. I think she does not value money. The way other people do. I think she cares about other people but i think she realizes parking tickets or a racket. I think she racks them up. Who would you rather here Which got the most. Or the least. I which direction should i go in at least okay all right. That's normally what i would do. I guess join eber is on the project joan good. I'm sorry jona peter. Dinka lynch got amir five percent of the vote and not a great starts to you. You've got five points you're on the board anyway. At least she didn't say a name that isn't going for that. I wrote down have been worse only way but in game shows people do if he will do crazy things coming in next with twenty one percent of the vote and twenty one points. Going to paget brewster it's francis mcdermott. I guess i. I don't think she's tops because i don't maybe people don't know maybe maybe they think 'cause also she plays a lot of characters who are extremely reasonable. 'cause she's a great actress so maybe maybe they think of like the character in fargo definitely wouldn't get parking tickets. He's a police officer march. Would never i get it. I get it. i think. There's another side to francis. That is the dig ledge riskier than a big so well so big she might be like Doesn't care about driving so she doesn't. She's worried about parking tickets. Kasese being driven around usually pry but who knows saudi will love the field. The road coming in the third spot. Twenty seven percent the chosen sam rockwell. What yeah. Wow i mean. He is a method actor so from project to project may be his characters would be that are worth paying tickets or over getting part putting money in the meter yes. He plays such a wide range of characters. But ben david you you nailed it with woody harrelson because he garnered forty seven percent of the vote really read for him and i think it's the weed thing i think they're making a joke that you would forget to pay. You know very punches car. You know that's what i think. People think it does like. Yeah the just a cliche. Yeah i saw. Spongebob moving college stoned. It's like ninety minutes to find my car after. So i feel like that's who i. That's why voted for him. I think i think woody harrelson has proven that if you smoke a lot of weed it really observer ability to where weeks that guy's got all sorts of kinds of hair all the time all right so ben. David is in the lead with forty seven points and paget's not right behind twenty one. This is Is already getting dire and joe race here. Everybody has their own. Tv shows us. Well yeah they gotta get to the robots i Let's see so that means that jona gets to go first in this round and then we go to paget then band david and this is a question joanna. Which of these is the dumbest. Clint eastwood movie is it. Every which way but loose any which way you can cadillac or unforgiven. Any which way you can. Because i have a feeling now loose though because is that's like the original. But the fact that he made a sequel to it makes me think that bats more ridiculous. So i'm gonna have to go with cam any which way you can was recorded. That's one data. Gordon was ruth. Gordon stiller was she involved ratio in the i. I've never seen either designed to be w severe drop off visits. It's funnier to see a an iranian tanks off an old lady ripping off Aranka changes flipping off too. Generic redneck keno. Good point okay. You're going any which way you can sequel to ever which way loose very popular. Clint eastwood movies. Were he co starred with clyde tang who was probably abuse. But that's neither here nor there paget. Yes the writing once. That was exactly my reasoning. Jonah and you beat me to it so i think you should be proud. I think i think you're gonna win it. I am going to have to go with pink. Cadillac okay. i was taking a drink when you said that you really. You're going with pink cadillac. I haven't i. Haven't i the only movie i've seen abuses unforgiven which is which is really the not a dumb move right so i gotta go with. What's the next dumbest title cadillac. All right ben. David have johnny which way but loose every which way but looks while this round. It's exciting no matter which end i start with Because they're really really shaking out interesting way Let's see what's the best way to put this earth jump around Make like how pain jump around. A Hidden Side of Police Abuse
"In response to weeks of protests across the country, police departments are starting to change in New York. For example, disciplinary records for the NYPD are finally going to be made public and last week. New York City, police. Commissioner Dermott Shea made announcement about the NYPD'S ANTI-CRIME UNITS UNDERCOVER COPS who tend to be involved in police shootings. Effective immediately we will be transitioning those units roughly six hundred people citywide. Into a variety of assignments including detective bureau. neighborhood, policing and other assignments. When he made that announcement. said that it was part of an outdated model policing in that they generally are much more focused on intelligence. This is twenty first century policing. Intelligence. Data. Shot Spotter. Video Make no mistake. This is a seismic shift in the culture of how the NYPD polices disgraced, city. It it gives you a sense of. How a lot of the focus is on sort of individual officers on the street, but increasingly young PD's focus is on surveillance, and it has been for a long time. On Hell, story starts almost two decades ago the years just after the nine eleven attacks. Nine eleven, because it happened in New York has had a very long shadow and fundamentally changed. How many communities view the police department? Nine eleven not only to look to automate in. Sharing between different federal agencies, it also tried to turn local police departments into sort of the eyes and ears of intelligence on the ground in major cities, so it became a really important time for police permits to start to view themselves as counter. Terrorism agencies in that perspective is also true to this day. So unhealthy after nine eleven when this technology really expanded. was there a sense of? Push back. was there a sense that this was controversial that there were these growing NYPD dragnets of both Cameras and investigations and wiretaps that that seemed to be targeting regular New Yorkers who might not have been guilty of anything at all, so there's always been pushback from impacted communities and from civil liberties, advocates, but. It goes to show the effectiveness of the police department in the influence of the police department where a lot of the concerns were allayed by saying. This is going to empower us to catch terrorists in that terrorism label really. Calms a lot of fears for many because they thought well, these are tools that are only going to be used against the most dangerous people, but in reality was never limited to counter terrorism in the first place. It was just presented as a counter ripped terrorism tool. The most notorious example of NYPD surveillance was the illegal spying on Muslim New Yorkers after nine eleven. The NYPD sent informers to take photos inside mosques. They infiltrated Muslim student groups at local colleges. Undercover cops, twelve bookstores, restaurants and hookah bars. Even played cricket. The group was called the demographics unit. But until the Associated Press revealed its work. NYPD denied it existed. Now the demographics unit is gone, but the police departments post nine eleven surveillance infrastructure remains. Everything, the police know shoveled into a giant database called the domain awareness system. That includes audio from gunshot detectors, two billion photos of license plates, hundred million summonses, eleven, million arrests, two million warrants and thirty days of video from nine thousand cameras. How will that information gets crunched? We don't really know. And some of the things we do know suggest the NYPD could use more oversight. And, that's where the post doc comes in. To give you an example of the types of things that they've done. They use facial recognition systems to try to identify people that are suspected of crimes that were captured on. Let's say TV camera. So there is an example of someone who went into a CVs and stole a six pack of beer and the NYPD try to run a picture of that suspect through its facial recognition system. But it didn't return any results, so the NYPD thought well. You know that person looks a little bit like woody. Harrelson, so why don't we grab a photo of Woody Harrelson run that through the facial recognition system and see if we can find a match that Oh my God. How did this become public? The seems like something. The NYPD would never want to admit. So, one of the things that the post actors trying to do is to change the way that we ordinarily find out about surveillance abuses, which is costly public records, requests or through leaks to journalists in this case data that information came from an internal training guide that was obtained by Click Gharbia Georgetown that was turned over through a public records request. To what extent do we find out about these kind of technologies? When some kid ends up in court, and they say well, we know it was you because we have a witness identifying a dragon tattoo. We searched our database for a dragon tattoo and it turns out the. We knew you had one because you were stopped and frisked five years ago. Annie's Harlem. Only, it was that that linear. That would be great. Essentially does work that way most often. We don't get a sense of what tools are used at all. Sometimes the NYPD will enter into contracts with vendors that require them to be secretive, and they'll sign a nondisclosure agreement or a confidentiality clause that prevents them from disclosing the use of particular surveillance tools to the point where there are instances that police departments have dropped. Dropped charges against a particular person because they don't have to explain how they found them using the technology. That is still secret

There's a lot coming a lot of original movies. A lot of original series. Give you some. Let's do a headline. Yeah. Okay. Well, if you're looking for something with big name talent, I can give you some. Movies that have some A-List stars? For example. There's this action film called triple frontier. Ben Affleck's in it. Oscar Isaac Senate, Charlie Hunnam Garrett. Hedlund Petra Pasco another movie with big names is the highway men. That's starring Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson. Both of these movies are coming to Netflix in March and also getting theatrical releases kind of like they did with three weeks. I don't yet know the full theatrical these plans, right? So I don't know if they're going to do the same exact plan as Roma, but they are doing a theatrical release some other things we have coming up. Our new seasons of shows. You might remember. For example, queer eye is coming back for a third season. The show arrested development has more episodes coming. Something else that I'm interested in checking out are some comedy specials, including one from Amy Schumer. She has one called growing, which I think is a reference to her growing family and her growing belly she's pregnant she she got married. She's going to be talking about that. She had an athlete special a couple of years ago. That was a little controversial talked a lot about sex. But she's back with this new one. She has a billboard on Sunset Boulevard. To promote the special. So you already knew why news new she had to billboard. What's the last? Great thing you saw on that flex. I finally watched Roma. So I I saw it on the couch on the TV I know everyone here in L A. I don't know if he overheard this conversation dozens of time if you're gonna see Roma see it on a big screen. I get that. But it is ni-. It is nice to be able to choose and finding a big screen would be hard because it came and went pretty right? That's right. Right. So did you enjoy Rama? I did enjoy Roma. Would I say it's my favorite movie of the year? No, it was my favorite movie of the year. Did I watch it and truly appreciate? Director genius who pulled from his own childhood experience and produce something beautiful. Yes. Did I get a little sleepy? Sure. Okay. Well, this podcast episode is going to run the day after the Oscars. We're recording it before the Oscars, and since you mentioned your favorite movie there. I gotta ask what was it? I don't know if I have a favor of the the first one that comes to mind is a movie called free solo. This is a movie that's up for best documentary, photography, probably. And I think a few other awards. Is is the story of a climber. Alex hulled and his free solo. Meaning he climbed without ropes. Yeah. In Yosemite, and not only is it a compelling story. Just on paper about someone who just decides to have this outrageous dream and against all odds. Go for it, but visually it is unbelievable because they have shots, you know, above him below him. The the people who shot this are professional climbers work through some me. Well, I wouldn't say that he's climbing there climbing. Yeah. But they had separate tracks. And they were on Rove's, but they're carrying heavy equipment, and they have to climb. So it is beautiful. This is something. I would see an Athenian. Okay. My pick would be BG. Oh, yeah. Ginsburg was just incredible to watch that on a plane recently. Okay. I saw Peter. Can you believe it? I've believe it. Yeah. In port Townsend, Washington. So Carly Malibu from USA today.
