He was in into the woods bridge of spies game night. I had not seen game night until two nights ago. I just listened to it while getting ready for this here interview with Billy and night to say that movie is hilarious, and Billy is hilarious in it. So he's going to be joining us pretty soon. That's exciting. That's very exciting before really gets here, though, we should and will talk about a few things that are going on in the news and going on, of course in the world. There's really not too much. I wanna talk about to be perfectly honest because I'm tired of talking about it. I'm tired of talking about Donald Trump. I'm tired of talking about things that don't just make it go. But make you go. Oh god. Oh god. You're listening to the next best thing. Here's what's making news tonight. All right. Are you probably heard that deputy attorney general rod Rosenstein is either going to be fired or resign. The New York Times recently reported from what I'm told incorrectly. They reported that rod Rosenstein had suggested wearing a wire and going in to get Donald Trump on tape saying and being crazy saying crazy things and suggesting crazy things so that he could then invoke the twenty fifth amendment and have him thrown out on his big fat ass. Well, it turns out that was not what he was really doing. See? Here's the thing. I'm so stunned by this. Because the New York Times is a paper that we all trust a lot of people rely on and that gets their ass kicked by Donald Trump for being fake and wrong. Will they didn't have a source who is in that? Room that apparently they're sourcing here was pretty questionable, and they made this report which ultimately serves as amunition for Donald Trump to fire rod Rosenstein, who is in charge of the Robert Muller investigation. So if and when that happens, I don't know what's going to happen. It's very. I can't believe that the times made that report because for as diligent spec them in. I think they are on all the reports about Robert Muller and about Michael Cohen, and stormy Daniels and all that stuff. This was shoddy where finding out now that the Washington Post, and in B C news has found out and actually does have sources who were in that room that that comment was made in such obvious jest and sarcastic tone, and that it was just such a clear not it was not actually real. He said to somebody else would want what much do wear a wire in passing. And in an obvious context where he wasn't being serious. So the times reported that now that could be munition defy Rosenstein. I don't know what's going to happen. I really don't. There's apparently new stories today that he might resign. He went to the White House. He spent hours there Donald Trump's at a not gonna comment. Into. I knew the facts tremendous, excuse me, the facts, Donald Trump doesn't give a fuck about the facts. I mean, there's something very we're going on here. I can't believe Donald Trump didn't fire on the spot because had that been true. It would have been a fire both ends. However, it's not true and get that doesn't matter. Because that's that's the thing. Donald Trump has never cared about truth in the past. Why would he care about truth now and the time has handed this tomb? So we'll see what happens I really don't have much more to say about it because it's an up. He is a scary thing. I don't think I think Robert Muller's a little too far in at this point to really be completely wiped out. But whatever whatever moving along the other thing I wanted to touch on briefly before we start talking to our special guest tonight. Billy Magnusson is rut Cavanaugh. So now he has two women who've come forward in accused him of sexual misconduct. One is an attempted rape. And frankly, I'm not entirely sure. The other one is, but I do know that the newest one came forward through Ronan Farrow and the New Yorker and her story was from college when they were both in college. I'm very uncomfortable with all of this because I have been shouting from the rooftops since back when it happened that. I think Al Franken was mistreated, and I hated that he was being guilty deemed guilty declared guilty without any type of investigation and due process. I don't think the same thing should happen to Cavanaugh. I don't however the Republicans want no process, they seem to want no process and the process they are willing to invoke is such a horse shit. You know, trumped up for lack of a better phrase process that it's like what are we doing here? What's the point of this? It is hard to try and find out the facts when you're dealing with Republicans because they and I hate to say such a blankets. Statement like this. But it seems to me that they will lie cheat and steal and do whatever they have to do to get whatever the fuck they want. And I you know, I saw Michael Moore recently on a bunch of stuff because he has his movie coming out Fahrenheit eleven nine. And he said exactly what I'm thinking. I said the pedestrian I interviewed for this said, why couldn't you just say free college. Well, we did say free community college, and you have to work the payback. And I said that's how we lose elections. Right. Do what they do say free college yet. But we hadn't figured out how we're gonna pay for it. Who cares just say just say things like free college free health care, even if they're not sure how he would pay for it. Even if they don't have the exact plan put together in lined up just say it because that's what people want to hear. And that's what will get them excited and out to vote and someone said to him. Well, you've really just wanna say random things you don't wanna like have a plan. And you can't say things, you know, that makes. You know, better than the Republicans democrat, it'd be better than they should take an example. I don't to be better anymore. I wanna win right. I to. Now's the I don't want to be better. I'm tired of being better. I want to win. And that's what I will know the focus. It's time to win. I don't wanna cheat. I don't want to do any of that shit. But it's time to win. There was drive-by shootings happening. This was like nineteen ninety four or something. Like, yeah. There's drive by shootings happening in queens, because we're driven from we were I remember my dad tells me the story that there was we are outside working in the garden. And a guy comes running down the street is like you gotta help me. You gotta help me whatnot in another guy comes running down the street and stabs the guy and he has. Because he was dealing on his corner bike. It was just like they had specific drug corn was your dad, like don't worry. I'm kickboxer. No. He wasn't like that. But he was like you gotta do that in front of my kid. Really? You got to do that right here in public daylight like that death? You were. Oh, so you're live you were there. Yeah. I was nine at that time. Oh, you remember. Yeah. Holy shit. Yeah. It's weird. Seeing another guys have another guy nine years old. Yeah. Were you scared? Was it scary? Like now, it's like oh shit that happened. But like at that age, you know, you're just like now at that age. Be like some. Really? Well, you from New York like, that's, you know, maybe you're a little more have tougher. I was in the mid west on. No. Yeah. No. So you think the days when they hit you with rulers then? No, that's. That was still happened. Did you go to Catholic school in New York? No. I did not know, I guess it's more common down there. I just don't know that was the school. I went to. All right. So then you had no decision in that. So why Georgia then, but you're just driving up. We've visit some friends in rhino of Atlanta. Incoming and I think my mom was like this is the spot. Really? Yeah. It was that round. I can teach aerobics here. Exactly what they did. They keep doing their stuff. She still she is an active member at the YMCA and is like she's very a events coordinator involve guy that YMCA and you have two younger brothers. Yeah. I saw your youngest brother. I think at one of the park games. He came to watch. It's not play. Yeah. And always had beer, look, exactly alike of really, oh, come on. You guys. Don't get that. He's nine years younger than me. But you guys don't get the toll that a lot. Yeah. He's my brother. What about the middle? Did you guys all know? He's he's the the middle kids. Always the weird. He's like he's at least five six inches taller than me. Oh, man guy. Wow. Just Viking of a man like bodybuilder like your dad. No, no. He was he was a big wrestler though. He was like Georgia state champion. Wow. He was a really loved Georgia or jars your loved him. I don't know if he loves Georgia where are your parents now where does own Dylan Georgia. Yeah. So your parents weren't like actors are any of your family members, like the Athol, no November might will artistic. I my mother was she actually went to the Manhattan institute of art. I believe and was a an artist painter and drawer. And my father is a cabinet maker, which is also artistry would I think it's naturally been there, but in a different form. So when did you notice like not just that you liked to act, but like, oh, I wanna pursue this. I had enough to really I didn't know what I want. Yeah. Let's let's let's expand this conversation. Let's not like we're interviewing I guess made. But let's talk about shit like it's crazy society puts you at a place at eighteen where you're like. Oh, freak you. Gotta figure out what you wanna do what you wanna pursue. What are you gonna? What's your major gonna be? What are you gonna do for the rest of your life? Like, that's an absurd time too. I just found my dick like four years ago four years from now, you know, what I'm saying like eighteen year olds. Like, you're like, oh my God. I didn't know this thing works figuring out who I am as a human being. I have to decide what I want to be for the rest of my life. And what I wanted for Sault college is. Yeah. Dumb and less. You really do know what you wanna do? And nobody does then. Yes, I think it is cool. If you understand craft you're getting in like a crafts can be anything can be science. It could be law or it could be a acting or whatnot. I just kinda like gave myself over to it. I was big jock injured myself got put an acting class eighteen years old. I didn't know what I wanted to do. I excelled in this theater program that I had no clue about all the women were their loved it actually start acting till you were eighteen. Yeah. Like seventeen eighteen and that's pretty late the fly just mean like, you know, so you weren't like in theater campus that six year old definitely okay? Okay. Did your parents think like, oh, you're taking house fine. But then when you really like I really do like this. You know, where they like, oh, this is a little risky. Well, I remember again like my decision was like this sounds cool. I'll go to college for this now. Yeah. For not right. Then I talked to my dad was like, hey, we're gonna go to the school North Carolina schoolyards, which I I I did not know anything about and didn't know how great school great school. It was. But I was like I wanna I wanna try this acting thing. And I remember my dad's head dropping and hitting his hands in though and be like. Deep breath. He looked then picked his head up looked at me and said, good luck. Really? And I have to say that was the greatest gift. Well, it's true that he did it's true. But I would think, you know, like, hey, you know, if you're like, hey, I thought I wanted to go and something more steady like kickboxing know about singer. I my family was very supportive. Okay. So it's right after college are you? Okay. You guys get high school in two thousand three so collagen what two thousand seven seven ago. So you made your Broadway debut right after college for you, very unusual story two again like a tidal wave came. I think it's all chaos. I think it's absurd life all of it. I think it's just when opportunity arises you got it's either you sink or swim. Yeah. You know, you got gotta take the risk in link. I think my whole career is a. A bunch of failures of personally. Well, personally, there's things that you know, you were working towards and if my biggest failures were the not taking the shots. Okay. The annot if you take the shot, you always have the opportunity to get it. But you could fail and fuck it, whatever of wait for the next one. And it's learning that just take it. You have any thinking of anything you didn't addition for or something like maybe even got offered and you didn't take no nothing specifically like that. But I do there are moments of shot myself in the foot, but at the same time if I was feeling that way at the moment, right? Yeah. I don't know what is it better or one again, my stories my story, and I can't compare it to everyone anyone else. And okay, another deep shit that I've been contemplating the and whatnot. I don't know. It might be just thirty three. That's not. It's not all young. It's just like that spot. It's young. We have our west of our lives of feel old. Yeah. Yes thing. So yeah. I just turned thirty one. And I was like oh my God. Life's over those are gray hairs. I thought they really do you feel like it was a second turned thirty. I was like, okay. Well, I guess my life as a young person is over. Yeah. Now when we turn sixty we'll think what the fuck was. I think no. But there is a difference between twenties in my thirties. Yeah. One hundred. I should yes. Yeah. What was the the point? We were talking about before this will you may know case so in two thousand right after college you made your Broadway debut in the Ritz. Oh, no, no, not that. I was talking about. Oh, baggage. I don't have to compare my career to someone else's if I get a job or someone else's someone else gets his job. I don't have to carry that weight of losing that job someone else. I didn't lose the job to someone else. I it wasn't my job. Right. Sunrise to worry about it. Right in here. New York, especially if you are going up for roller something, and it's a thirty year old guy. Okay. You might come down to the seven people, then they can get a specific as like, okay? They wanna six three with blue eyes and black hair who's a Virgo and bottle, and they can get that specific. Because it's there's that many people here. So it's not like, I just wasn't talented enough. It's like it just wasn't for me. I think the pool in New York is different. I think it's weeded out much faster than like, Los Angeles or something like that here, you're one in a hundred let's just say there's just one hundred in Los Angeles. You're one in one hundred thousand really you think so it's more competitive there. No. I just think the pool is bigger. Okay. Every day you have someone arriving in Los Angeles who was their prom king or Queen someone was like, oh, you should be in movies. They're showing up every day. And then it's comfortable to live there in Los Angeles. Okay. Gotcha. It's a comfortable place live is cheaper than New York. This is not a place to live, and I have seen people. Come the second people. Come here. I've seen people come here. Go to five auditions not get them like it's expensive. They leave. They spent their whole high school and college years can't wait to get to New York. Then they come in. They're like, oh, I wasn't casting mmediately. I'm gonna go work at my that's pharmacy. So then naturally the the market here in New York weeds out swiftly. Yeah. I hear them it just cuts it out. I remember I want to say between my twenty five to twenty nine when I was that age. There is always room. I would end up with other actors like we were at a certain tear. It would always be like the same ten guys. Yeah. For the same role. And we all knew who was going to get that job. Really? Oh, yeah. We'd be like phils getting this fucking one today. That's Steve's getting that that. Yes. Eve's getting this. When it's my turn gal. Well, you knew the pool was so small game. And we started kind of helping each other in a sense as good. So you don't feel competitive you feel supportive of each other. Again, you know, you know, you're working virement, you know, the world's you know, what excites. The the people around you. And you want you want to, cultivate, a commune in you. And when you have a community that smaller, you are aware of it more great in two thousand seven you're never revival of the Ritz Terrence McNally's play which starred Rosie Perez net. Kevin Chamberlin Brooks man skits for Kerr, and what was your role in that just the guy in the turquoise underwear? Okay. You are go boy. Anyone who just no, that's it's a farce it set in Manhattan bath house, which doesn't even exist anymore. Really? Right. Well, there there's the Russian Turkish path over how was that experience? Was that awesome? I mean, when you first learned to you, you know, you're gonna Broadway debut is that really. Yeah. I remember go or having the Broadway from having my parents committed my aunts and uncles, my godmother and godfather, which they know who all your. They didn't they didn't know that was going to be. Bikini, bathing suit thing in various. Yeah. Was you're like what what's happening here. Yeah. Oh coming you. Thank you. He went to college for this. But no, they couldn't be couldn't have been more supportive at one the real experience. I took away from that was I under studied three roles and I remember on a Saturday morning. I got the call ten AM. They are going on for the house going on at one o'clock knife. And I was going on for Terry Hughes playing the detective in it, and as an understudy, you you kinda rehearse right? When during the day while you do the show tonight. So ten AM. They're like get here. Now, you're going on for Terry. And I'm like oh shit. We haven't blocked the second act of the show as the understudy. Oh, really never tried that. And I was also doing to other understanding to other roles. So I get there were running. I act lines with me and the the other Kathy all show up. We're doing lines going through it. We blocked the first act Harry. Did he something happened to Terry? He hurt his back. He really like messed up like vertebrae or Sancho like that. So we rehearsing the first act rocking at one not one o'clock here, we're going on. So literally the curtain up. Don't remember thing. Don't remember curtain comes down act to during intermission. What do you mean? Don't remember do you didn't remember what it goes? I just don't remember the experience. I remember going. Got your lines and stuff. I was like, no, no I had the line like again like being on some a member and being in the theater you naturally memorize the whole here. Dolly the whole play you just know literally every note so intermission happens when not did no one think to say, or what did you not think to speak and be like, hey, I haven't blocked the second act. Well, during intermission all the actors get on stage curtains down we block the second acting door intermission on. There's a whole like farcical scene on the bed where we're jumping around doors opening and closing G. And we literally block it during intermission. We go over like three times. And then we'd like do the Saudi now. Fine. I don't remember. It was fine. I remember Seth Radetsky writing like dick Yetlis review being like and daily Magnusson. Got his equity cards so weird thing with your career. Didn't you do something else with him later that he was in? Was that this that was that was that was in that he was in this in that show? Then what what are you writing about you? He because he just had a blog and one was writing I read his book, Broadway nights. Really? Yes. I bet he has some crazy story. His his mom was like an opera singer. She wanted him to be an opera something. I don't know. Whatever very big break, though came in twenty twelve for you when you were casting Vanya and Sonia and Sasha and spike Masha by yeah. Alongside you know up and comers like Sigourney Weaver and David I'd peers. Yeah. And you played spike this these are like, you know, he had been Frazier ABS over, but he's been huge Sigourney Weaver's huge. I mean, how in this is the lead role your it was originated a lead role in a play. But it started in New Jersey. Yeah. So that's harder. Right. And then it went to Lincoln center, then Broadway all within one year. Yeah. He tracy. Well, again, you have that caliber with it. You got Christopher durang. You got Ryan. Ready Weaver typified peers, usually like when shows are going to go from here to there and kind of get their feet wet, and then go to Broadway, it can take years of rewrites and recasting or whatever. Like, this was you guys. It was just you guys. We just frigging ran the gambit with that play. Just kinda rocket. Shit clicked. And they're like, let's keep doing everyone. Agreed. You wanna move it to Lincoln center's? Oh. Oh, yeah. Again, like, my understanding of the worlds of the or even the business was not fully defined John for myself. So I'm just the fucking kid. Just being like, yeah. Let's let's do this. I'm I'm for a good time. Why not that's a good Intel? I'm getting paid right? I'm getting paid right? I mean, that's a good talent. There was days. I it was either getting a sandwich or taking the subway to work. Yeah. What am I gonna do? Really? Yeah. Many homes. That's the life of. That's what we have, you know. Okay. But then they'll say what when all those places huge success became. I mean, earn its money back the Broadway show within like four months, and then it gets ninety for six Tonys wins. Best play you're nominated for Tony award. Crazy. Right. Was it surreal yet? Or we like. Yeah. Whatever. Again, I. The biggest you don't freak out about stuff. I know you do. But it's because other people were putting it on me. And I was like two that's an owner. Don't. Yes, it is an honor not hunting it. I wasn't right. Doing it. Again. I was having a good time. Just hanging out. You know, just getting the call for my mom, the more being like, hey, you got nominee for your mom told you. Yeah. A game is supposed to be like, hey, what time are they coming here something and they're like, okay action. I was like what time are they coming? I you know, which is normal. On stage that sounds normal that looks normal that is normal, and I just thought okay here, I go I'm acting now. And it was like, and I got have we seen in and then I stopped myself. And I was like I just looked at them. And they're looking to be like, but have you ever seen any of L Pacino's performances? But he's playing great guy. You know, like I was just supposed to be a guy kind of talking to an apartment. Yeah. You know, like, I just caught. And I did I caught myself because I was like, why am I yell ING? So just that you know in subtleties that in that way, it's different. But also people say that they think movie actors of LA and stayed here. And there's a difference between those people, and these no, you don't absolutely didn't notice any difference in approach or. What is these hand things that are close to her face? What's what's going on? Then you look on the camera. And you're like, oh, she knows her stay. She knows her prosciutto. She knows where she is. Doesn't make any when I was in a soap opera when I was doing my soap opera like this where I started my career was in soaps as the world turns I got recognized more or people were very aggressive over Andom now.
