‘Father Ted’ and ‘The IT Crowd’ creator Graham Linehan permanently banned from Twitter

"You probably have not heard of Graham Linemen. He created a father, Ted which is a British series in the IT crowd, a British series and transgender activists have gone through his twitter time line and found statements. He said that offended them and caused twitter to ban him. one of the things that he said for example. This is what what ultimately led to him getting band. Is He tweeted. Men Aren't women. The Women's Institute, a UK Women's organization wished. Happy Pride Month to its transgender members and end this guy. Graham Linemen Lynam tweeted. Aren't women though. In the past he also compared children, questioning their gender to children, being experimented on by Nazi Germany and also suggested that it was child abuse to allow kids to begin treatment for transgenderism. And well they came for him.

"In graphic design. Good for you. Now, are you are you retired or you don't you're not working, otherwise, I don't work. Okay. Retired much. I raised my kids for thirty three years. And that's good. What you wanna do? I think that's neat. You know, there's where do you live? West university. Oh, well, then you're not far. There is what street. I live on street those apartments over there. Oh, I know exactly where you live at the corner Brompton in Pittsburgh. I loved west you a new every block of that place. There is a place called the Women's Institute. Right. Look into that. Okay. It's east of shepherd on. I can't remember. But what it really is women that want to continue learning together and drink Rosa in the afternoon. They have guest lecturers I had a one of my favorite professors the reasonable Dr Ross Lintz taught a class there on Thursday nights. And he loved it those women fawned over him. And he would always tell us. We would we would not we would show up. Not having read are John Locke and say, you know, the women at the Women's Institute, they would have read the entire book, and you've not even finished a chapter because they're not students. They're actually there to learn to enjoy the act of learning. And so he would he would berate us with that. Well, good for you, Amy. I'm happy to hear that near Brandon. Go. Strawberry pie or cobbler, which cobbler. Have you ever had never had it who makes it? Oh, my granny used to Vegas. Listen. I, you know, honestly, I'm more of a cobbler fan than probably any dessert. I love a piping hot cobbler other than happy by behind. I'll eat it. Anyway. But a good homemade.

"Are dialed in detective radio. You got this groove thing going on as making funny. I know what's up with that? Serious guests in the house, and I'm trying to show him respect. Serious top button. You guys. Short sleeves come on. Man. Hey, so we have Chris patchy Yoni here from the Loomis institute. And just so our listeners know, I happen to know this guy I've known him for a while. He is my brother-in-law. Okay. I won't. Disclosure. Exactly. Hey, bro. To bring that up. I was gonna play dumb just want people to know that it's all in the cool is he's not in the show because he's my brother in law. He's on the shows. He's running a really cool company. You're up to me. I'd be like no way, man. Just tuned out. Exactly. So Chris women institute how long have you been off the ground for eight years? This August was our eighth birthday. I remember when it was pre-. Yeah. Right. Pre birth. We're incubating it over at Maya two thousand. Early. You knew about this. Well, the Colonel yes. Early writers with Phil Lucas. Around two, great work. Very happy. Yeah. I check in on them. Just to make sure gonna tell our listeners institute. Got my paper, exactly. From my skirt sound effects. So we are a leading global provider. Of design design thinking system. Yeah. Design thinking courses and design thinking software that help companies, you know, basically, do three be more agile and collaborative. Be more innovative. It'd be more customer Centric. Those are the three big things a lot of big corporations and small corporations are trying to do these. And they all struggle with it. And they do it's hard to attack. It right. Intertwined too. It's not just for leadership. Right. I mean, I think that's the cool thing. It's for the whole company. I mean, a lot of companies that we work with are really about hole whole culture transformation is like how in general, right? Do we be more innovative on the database basis? Bit were innovation is business as usual, how we'd be more customer Centric. I we put the needs of our very stakeholders and different kinds of users partners. I right. And you know, how that could be more collaborative across silos breakdown the silos because, you know, all the book say the best innovations come from multiple winds coming together, the cross pollination thing, and and design thinking that provides a platform and a way of working and thinking and doing for people from various walks of life to come together and do that kind of stuff so design thinking is really become popular. Also, being my brother-in-law having dinner with you a few weeks ago, and my mom. Exactly. I obviously was not at that dinner. One of my favorite nephews, Leo was taking. He's he's like he's in the wet sixth grade, seventh grade the he's design class. Yeah. Yeah. Worth a young age. Just saying that this is where it's it's coming says, he's an signed class. Yeah. I noticed on his I guess this syllabus has classes for the year. When he when he when he got it in the mail that a quarter of a credit, but he'll be taken a classical design innovation later this year in the seventh grade into the superintendent. Yeah. You need to go. Great stuff. I Bill actually mentioned before it is a lot of work with Adam worth. We do a lot of we support a lot of their programs and teachers not only worth, but a lot of the local school district trying to integrate the stuffing of the curriculums, so Christy, what is design thinking far listeners out that means. Besides the buzzword there's some actually behind the right? I mean, we re Luma likes to refer to it with design thinking is referred to as human centered design. But whatever it's there's numerous handlers for it. Okay. Design thinking is the most popular one because it was on the cover of Harvard Business Review several times because that's the one I'm going to go with. Okay. I don't like it much, but it works. But what it is is basically it's a it's an approach to work that is inventing new things developing innovating new things that basically emphasized three things deep bump, sorry, not three things up that five things five hole. Okay. So so emphasizes number one problem finding and problem understanding and proper rhyming. Right. So it it it gets people having those early conversations when we're doing a work like what probably trying to solve here. You know, the world is littered with great stories about how teams did a good job solving the wrong problem. Exactly. Right. So getting on the same page and figuring out. What is it that? We're really trying to solve here is a lining of that crossover organization is very critical and design thinking helps teams have those critical conversations at the strategic level of tactical level. The second thing is deep deep, stakeholder empathy. Not just use, her empathy. But stakeholders I mean, when you're designing something new you gotta really take into account. The multiple stakeholders that is people have a stake in the solution and users could be value at a resellers, it could be the organization itself. And how do you understand what everybody needs out of this thing? And so that's tough stuff. And really talk about it for our organization where we represent like over two hundred thousand individuals, they all want the same thing. I know. No. So that's only they did. And it's complex, but you shouldn't shouldn't shy away from complexity right number. My is old Tamie entertainment complex. You got to get in there and say, well, what's really going on here? So it's the second thing. The third thing is just imagination envisioning the future able to that's part and part of part and parcel of what innovation is is bringing something that hasn't existed into existence. Gotcha. And say that requires visual imagination. Right. I the fourth thing is. Rapid iteration and development, right?.

Have come together so we all met on Tuesday at BBC's headquarters in Washington DC this was the first time Jason grandma said the president of the BBC. It was the first time that all of these groups came together in one place at, one time for one purpose it. Was very exciting the electricity in. The room was palpable all of these. Groups have different perspectives of course different focus, on the issues associated with retirement security but, we're all recognizing. That we're all in, this together with the goal, of making it easier for Americans, to, save. Helping, it make it easier for. People to, generate income that can't outlive and helping to secure. The social security system, for generations to come and, one, of the themes that came out of it was really rather cute It's not cool you know. It's not cool the congress, has not done more from a policy perspective to foster retirement security in America it's not cool that more than. Half of the employers in America have not established workplace retirement plans. For their employees it's not cool that consumers around the country have not. Done a better job themselves of saving for their futures and you know what it it's just not cool and we're. Not going to tolerate. It anymore so we're going to continue. With our grassroots awareness and education campaign, with the, development of policy proposals to help resolve these issues, to make it.

"Lifetime achievement award from the plan sponsor council of america recognizing her contributions to the retirement industry cindy thanks so much for joining us on the show today thanks for having so talk to us about wiser the women's institute for a secure retirement tell us about what that organization is in the work it's doing started in nineteen ninety six so about twenty two years ago and it was started because i had come to washington about eight years before had been working on a women's retirement project and hearing a lot of the same stories over and over again learning how sad and heart wrenching so many of these stories were and realizing that i knew nothing about this as a boomer and i had just had my pension frozen and a job change so all i could see was that no one knew anything and they needed to know something pretty fast so weiser was started because of that this retirement predominantly a women's issue i mean normally you know i'm not sure people really associating the retirement conversation with gender right and i think that's part of the problem one of the one of the things that you know we see over and over again is that you know people don't realize the situation until they come right upon it right and they've run out of time to really help make it work for themselves and usually some crisis will happen in their fifties or sixties or they'll see this happening in their own family and realize that they have a big catch up you know to to make for themselves so one of the things we started to focus on was the fact that there are just so many more women than men at age sixty five they're about five and a half million more women than men and you know by the time you get to the end of life with people even in their nineties and up into a hundred you know the women are you know they predominate which means regardless of your earlier life by the time you reach your letter years women are most likely unmarried.

"What are you what the dawson darlings laura let's in that case let's bring in jane robinson that because jane your socially store you written a force to be reckoned with history the women's institute what did they done to upset them it's difficult to know i think what's happened is that the w i have lost sight of their heritage they were founded back in one thousand nine hundred fifteen as a group of activists the original social network really women doing things for themselves and for their communities and that meant being radical right from the very beginning so it's always been a hallmark of the we've seen the bead we've seen them boo prime minister for heaven's sake that slow hand clap of absolutely icon ick yes it was they've always been very clear sighted and they've been activists but they've done it with a sense of fun and camaraderie shut about for instance the dawson darlings i think part of the problem is that no body of people let alone body of women has ever been so heavily stereotyped as the w why and you can begin to believe the stereotypes and you can begin to believe perhaps at the older ones are from the younger ones are wacky and it's very very important to get away from those stereotypes and remember that you're all women together roy what are you you from.
