Revolutionizing STEM Education for Girls in Nigeria With Chinwe Nkiru
"I understand that you and your mother run a SheForCE theme project in schools in Nigeria. Can you tell us a little bit about it, please? Okay, thank you very much for that. The program is actually an initiative of my NGO, like you rightly said, Flourish Life International. So that is the mother umbrella. The SheForCE theme is an initiative of my NGO. We are also into women development, so this is the girl aspect of it. You know, we just commemorated International Women's Day. Can you hear me, please? I can hear you loud and clear. Yeah, so the theme of this year's International Women's Day is digit all. So, innovation, including innovation and technology as a tool towards promoting girls in their career, critical thinking and being the better self of them tomorrow. So, it was actually born of the passion of myself being a STEM or STEAM career person. I'm actually a medical lab scientist. I think that's the one you missed out. I'm a lab scientist. Apologies. Yeah, I'm a medical lab scientist and I'm in running a partnership program with Viral Hypotitis Association of Nigeria. I've also worked with the United States Department of Defense, HIV Reference Lab. So, I got to know a little bit of how the US and in general their education system works. In my little understanding, I will say I'm yet to explore more. So, this vision, she first team is actually to like their motor goals, inspire. So, the first aspect of it is actually to initiate this desire, this like oh wow kind of sentiment into this girl. So, that they see women like us, I'm a medical person, right? I'm also a STEM in STEM career. So, they see okay this is what the future holds for me if I go for a STEAM career. So, we inspire. So, the next is now is to include. That's the inclusion we are talking about in the inclusion diversity and the equity model being used in addressing this. So, we include them. How? Because we have created the first stage of inspiration. Because for me, for you to have brought me to this platform, I believe you inspired me on what you're doing so far in in touch. So, that's what inspired me to come to this program I attend, right? So, that's the same way we teach that output to these girls to inspire them. Okay, these are the STEM careers. This is what you'll be tomorrow. This is the future while we are trying to encourage you to be a STEM education or a STEM career person in the future. That's the second stage include. Then the last one is, which is not the least, is innovate. How do we mean by innovate? We try to make them have hands -on. Because once you finish talking, there's no particularity, no hands -on, you've not done much. So, the innovation aspect is actually the broadest aspect of the vision. Because it's going to be more interactive in the sense of there has to be like a STEM club, there's got to be like a STEM hub. I'm just trying to, I've already started explaining the project, if you can permit me. So, there's going to be the hub. So, in this hub set up in the schools, right now, we already have one, like I told you with my mom's school there in Ann Arbor State, Oka. We already have one and every break time they gather together. So, they have this, all this computer and STEM gadget, if I could say. So, the short term goal is actually what we've already started with. That's the inspiration. Inspiration that went to the schools and creating the platform awareness kind of sensitization. And right now, we've already collected names of schools that are mostly underserved communities

Wait, What? The White House Gives Women's Awards to a Man
"Whatever you want to do. But I do not understand why The White House Jill Biden, the First Lady on international women's day this week, gave an award to a man. I mean, at what point does this degenerate from women? The international, first of all, was it given out yesterday or Wednesday? And it's like for international women. And who is it? I really, I haven't read on this at all. Who is it given to? Do you know? No, I can't remember who it was, but it was something I didn't recognize. I mean, it was not like a song. It's a woman of the year. Is that what it is? Was I a woman award? Okay. Joe Biden gives biological male women who may a woman of women of courage award up your games ladies. Let's say Joe Biden gay and Secretary of State blinken were presenting a biological male from Argentina. 11 extraordinary women around the world and Argentina Alba ruda if I mispronounced that I apologize. It was introduced at the ceremony as a transgender woman who kicked out a class on his bar from sitting for exams for all this stuff that they faced these challenges for and was given a idea that this was international women's day. Even Sarah Huckabee Sanders, I was actually out in Arkansas this week and Sarah just had an amazing education bill out there. But, you know, he tweeted out, it's an international women's day. A good time to remember that Democrats can't even tell you what a woman is.

USA Powerlifting to Allow Trans Athletes to Compete After Losing Suit
"Now, we're celebrating women's month this month, right? Right, everybody, aren't we all celebrating? Yesterday was international women's day. So I think many on the left and progressive end of things are thinking, no better way to celebrate than to continue erasing women. And we need to talk about this story here. Here's a headline out of New York Post. USA powerlifting to allow trans athletes to compete with women after losing suit. So a U.S. power lifter and transgender lifter by the name of JC Cooper, one his discrimination case against the organization. Apparently, she, I guess I we're going to get mixed up with the pronouns here as we always do on trans issues. Cooper filed a complaint with the Minnesota department of human rights in 2019, claiming the organization had violated that state's human rights act after he was barred from competing in the women's division. In 2021, he filed a lawsuit against the USA powerlifting in state court. Quote, I was fed up with the way I was being treated. I was fed up with the way that my community was being treated and enough was enough. And the court heard out JC Cooper and said, you know what? This is discrimination. You as a biological male should be able to compete in the women's division. USA powerlifting. Now I

"Wow. Well, that was harder than it had to be. I know. You know, we're trying to make it so way wake up. It's complicated. Just put a cap up there. Well, I mentioned before or at the very beginning of the show that I was going to mention the differences in drill. So you hear this term all the time. And if you go to the home story to the home store, you'll find there'll be a thing, a package of what looks like two drills that look very similar to each other. But they're actually, they have different specific types with their supposed to do. You have your basic power drill, which is basic type of drill suitable for like most household stuff, DIY projects. They're used for drilling holes, driving screws, the clutch can be adjusted to the drill depth. It's just pretty much a standard tool. It's not necessarily a super powerful tool. It's to do most jobs. Isn't that what you're going to use to drill a hole? Yes. Yeah. So then you go to a hammer drill. A lot of folks might have heard of this. This is pretty specific. It's a powerful tool that combines the functionality of two separate hand tools, a hammer, and a drill. It literally is to do that kind of thing. So if you're going into concrete, break all kinds of things, they like to use those. Okay. And ladies, if you're going to use one of these, I'm going to tell you be careful because I have done some damage to my wrist. Oh, yes. Oh, yes. They'll hit that hard surface and spin you around. Yeah. Well, then you have the rotary hammer drill known for their ability to pound dense solids like stone concrete bricks and masonry, but that thing, like you said, if you're holding that drill, it can pull your wrist. If it gets stuck, if it gets hung on something in there, it can pull pretty good. You can pull pretty hard, so I had one I was trying to go down into a slab, and I was holding it between my knees and had my wrist on it. And that son of a gun threw me across the ground. That's when paying me decided she wasn't going to play with that anymore. Right. So there's a couple of different kinds of drills out there to look for, and they're not all for the same thing. Very careful. All right, fix it, one on one as a production of Mississippi public broadcasting think radio and it's funded by the generous contributions from listeners like you. "In my age, is pointless. I'm going to agree with you, Dave. I'm not. Go ahead, Jeff. I'm not going to agree with you. Just because you're 80, what's that mean? Majority. It's all that means. It's going to outlive him. Oh boy. Oh, yeah, hope. Okay, I'm going to leave on that. Dave, I would too. Hey, listen, you just have fun doing it, man. I think that's awesome. My uncle is 80. He's 82. My daddy's 82, man. And he's building stairs static. You're doing great, man. Go for it. All right. Before we go to our last break, I got to talk to Chico real quick. He's on the square and ponto talk. What's going on Chico? Before you tell me to turn down my music, I'm on the square in Panetta and they have public loudspeakers that pump jams constantly. Really? Okay. Wait and hear what you see, kids in the jam. But go ahead. What I'm calling about it reminds me of when ronza was still with us and living in Oxford. He had his house wide. So as to whatever room he walked into when he flipped on the lights, what he was listening to also came on in the speaker network. Your precursor to a smart house. So I think it was day just now that mentioned rue Goldberg. Yes. Okay, I just want to say thank you today for mentioning rude Goldberg and I think that would make a great show topic in the future. Rube Goldberg ways of unfixed. Okay. All right, I hear you. Those who don't know Google. Thank you, Chico, appreciate it. This is fix it one O one on MPB think radio. I'm Jason Klein, here with Pam pai best, as she certified inspector and inspect it like a girl. And licensed contractor Jeff Simmons from housework in here's the guys. Hey, we've been remodeling a kitchen and we removed an old vent hood. So now the chimney vent thing on our metal roof is basically open to the sky. I need to remove it and cover the hole, I think. What's the best way to go about that? Thanks, Stephen. Well, what happened to the vent? I mean, did you just. I don't know if they maybe moved it? Yeah, let's assume it was over the cooking surface microwave. So they're updating to something. Or maybe they went to like a microwave hood that doesn't please to please please do not say that they did that. We don't vent we don't vent our vendor hoods. I mean, we do fit our vent hoods. We don't vent our microwave. So what it sounds like they did. Let's assume they got rid of the vent hood microwave. That way they don't need that vin anymore, okay? Right. Right? Well, let's just go on that because they want to know how to plug that. Well, true because another vent hood is going to be. You're going to put another vent hood in. So where is it exhausting? But anyway, let's assume they're moving the whole kitchen or whatever. Ideally, if you had a piece of that metal, it needs to be the exact same metal that you had, cut a section bigger than the hole and put some sealant down and then put that piece over that whole patch. Yeah, patch. Or just leave it. There shouldn't be water getting into it. If the cap is still there. That's good. Then just lay the better idea. Just leave the camera. But he said it was open. He said it was open to the sky. No, he said it was open to the attic. Oh, no, wait. No. I have it right here. I can read it. That was the old one. The chimney event thing on our metal roof is basically open to the sky. Oh. I won. Wonder why? I don't know. Well, because they took the pipe out. Right. But Jeff and I want to cover the cap. I would just put a, I would put a roof cap. I would too. Instead of trying to find a little better idea. That's designed for a metal roof. Yeah. There you go. So I'll win the answer. He won the question. That's right. I won the battle you won the war. Yeah.

"We're looking more and more at careers. And I've got to give you some history here. I think I told you this once. Let's talk about moms getting jobs. My mother worked at MPB. She took a job up here whenever. After I got into college, she started working over here. It drove my dad crazy. Mine too. Yeah. All right, Dave is on the line. Let's go to him. He's in mobile. What's going on, Dave? No, got two things for you guys this morning. Yes. First comment about the gentleman just mentioned creating the gutter blower with his ego. Yes. Yes, sir. That's a great idea. But now they're having bang his hand to the wall, ego makes a fantastic attachment for their blowers. Well, there you go. Really? That's an extension multiple links and in the end you have a U shaped connection that you put on the end and just rigid. You run it down the gunner. You can change the angle that it blows to really a great idea. Oh my gosh. There you go. I really think Sam though enjoyed building. Yeah, he did. Yeah. Damn it, Dave just blew him right here in the water. Saying probably knew there was something he said. I'm not doing that. And then Sam went out and bought a can of krylon and painted it black and made it look cool. But now my real reason for calling and this is going to be a rude Goldberg in a situation. Go for it. I have a section of the typical privacy fence four by four post stringers and then the boards. And one section the top stringer, water accumulates behind and has rotted out the top portion of a number of the boards. Okay, I am in the process of turning it all apart and I'm going to put up new stringers and new boards. But I have in the garage a partial role, you're familiar with icing shield or the weather beer product that you use. Now under landing on both feet. Yes. Yes. Okay. I am turning with cutting strips and peeling off the backing and laying that ice shield along the stringers and then when I put the fence boards down, screwing them down and I've got a gasket or a seal that is that ice and shield between the stringer and the fence board. Is that going to work? At the, you know, I mean, I don't think it's a bad idea. We had a caller call in one time about putting when they put the stringer up instead of putting them in horizontal, they put them in vertical. And I loved that idea. What would are you using? What species? I'm using well, home depots, whether beater pressure treated. Persevering, probably. I would get away from the pressure treaty pine if it were me. And go to what? Cyprus. Cyprus. He's going to put cypress. And a lot of subdivisions will not even accept. Pressure treaty pad. Yeah. Yeah. But you know, I think your idea, if you're going to use that power. Another thing you could do is you can go ahead and treat it. I do that now with all my anytime I'm like, I've rebuilt my deck. I've had to put some pins stuff up is I lay those boards out, let them dry out about a week, and then I paint them on all 6 sides. That's probably doing more good than anything else. Yeah, you could use the ice and it might not be very pretty whenever you do that. But if you were to pay. Yeah. I don't know, can you paint ice and eat? Well, it's going to be it's going to be behind the board anyway. It's not going to be visible. Oh, okay. Yeah. It's smaller than the tuba. I put it on the top of my we were talking about this a couple of weeks ago. I put it on the framing on my deck. And you can't see it. It's not going to hurt, Dave. Yeah, it's not going to hurt. I like the idea of using the sealed attachments. That's a really good idea. So whenever you screw those boards in, it's sealing on probably on both sides of that screw. Right. Well, I also, when I had our dick built in 15 years ago, the contractors came to a junction on 90°, they put the caps on across and 45° angles. So water ran through the joint and rotted out the center of a portion of the post. Yeah, that's why I was saying, if you put those stringers up at the vertical, so you're looking at well, this is a two by four, which is really three and a half. You're looking at the four instead of the two whenever you're staring at the fence. Does that make sense? No. Well, when you're the strainer is I'm talking about are the two by fours that are parallel to that. That's exactly what I'm saying. When you put it up, horizontal instead of putting it up to where the four inch is sitting there. So the water can sit on the side of it, turn it up. And to put your stringer on so that the four inch side, you're looking at the four inch side instead of the two inch side. I got you. So you don't have as much. There's not enough. There's not as much area for the water to sit on. Right. No, that's why it's constructed now, but still have been joined. So looking at doing a barrier to seal that off. Right. Probably I'll be 80 in October. So maybe worrying about that, in my age, is pointless. I'm going to agree with you, Dave. I'm not. Go ahead, Jeff. I'm not going

"All right, so I was looking at this email that came in and it was based on our broadcast Saturday morning. Someone heard broadcast Saturday morning, said, at almost 70, and one total hip replacement. I try to stay away from ladders as much as possible. To keep my gutters clean, I remove the leaf guard material, which work kinda. But one day you'll need to really clean your gutters and the wire leaf guards I had on there were a big pain to remove and replace, and you need to be on a ladder. A modified my ego leaf blower by adding a 7 foot thin wall PVC pipe. I think it was four inches that fit on the end of the ego blower without its attachment. I connected the blower and PVC with an inexpensive union coupling and added a flexible aluminum vent on the other end and been at around a 180°. So now I lean the upper portion with the bent vent aiming into the gutter and simply walk along blowing all the mess out of my gutters. I do this before expected heavy rains or when I'm doing other yard work. Note, wear a big hat and some eye protection. I was gonna say. All the stuff blows out and can end up on you. I upload down the spouts to you, watch it, see how it comes out. Works for me, peace, Sam. Yeah, great idea. For staying on top of the home maintenance stuff. That's awesome. That's right. Yeah. Well, and it's really the pile up of the leaves that really get you in the air. If you come to my house, I had a house in probably 2005, my current house. But I remember going up to it, and I hadn't cleaned the Gunners in a couple of years. Well, there were trees growing out of the gutters. I didn't know that could happen. Well, apparently, after the leaves built out long enough. Yeah. They mulched. Anyway, something to think about doing. But that's pretty cool. I could think of doing that myself with your salutes to eat for the ingenuity. He went and got the PCV pipe and connected it to his blower. Well, you know what? He was thinking. It's still, no matter what he spent on that. It's still not as much as falling off a ladder. No. Didn't he say he was 70? Yeah. Yeah. With a hip replacement. Yeah, you don't want to be coming off the wall. He's got a new hip now, though. Yeah. Right, so if he were to fall, he just melts. I'm just going to match that. Just fall on the other side. Oh God. Right. You know what? Java put this together, and I just love it. Of course, we mentioned earlier it's international women's day. And the theme for this year is a brace equity. So today we highlighted all the women who are putting on the hard hats and drawing up blueprints in the trades and construction industry, just like our own pan pipes, who not only inspects the houses, but owns the company. A few stats, this is cool. According to the national association of women in construction, believe it or not, there's a name for that. And a WIC, now women currently make up about 9% only 9%. Of the construction industry weren't force in the U.S., according to bureau of labor statistics, as of 2020, women make up 10.3% of workers in construction and extraction occupations, which include carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and construction laborers. But women make up a larger share of workers in some very specific construction occupations. Such as painters, paper hangers, which they can have both of them. And building inspectors, construction and building inspectors. 21.6% of the women that are in the trades are in those three trades are painters, paper hangers, and I can't believe they're still such thing as paper hangers in the world. But we're just kind of making a comeback. Yeah, no, we're doing wallpaper right now. And I agree with that. There's some surveys I don't agree with that when I do based on real life. I have one of your employees back in the day. At least half of our painters are females. Really? Yep. I did not know that. And they make great painters because their hands are typically smaller. They're a lot more steady than we are. They can a female makes a great welder and a good painter for the simple fact that their hands are, I think, more steady than the Mayo. Wow, that's amazing. And that's interesting that it showed up in the stats here. That was something was drawn. There's not heavy lifting, there's, you know, it fits. Well, if any of you remember Allison walker was our mechanic for a while on the show and if you didn't know this, the reason why she came to the show really initially, she was a master painter. I remember that. That's right. And so, yeah, she painted the inside of home. She was a master painter. Wow. So yeah, that's where she made her money before me. And let me make a clarification, too, because this is kind of been a mission of mine is to bring more women into the home inspecting industry. When you say building inspector, that's normally, that's not what I do. It can sound a little confusing. That's more of a municipal inspector who works for a town to inspect the building process or go in. And what I'm trying to do is bring more women into the home inspecting part of it. Okay. All right, well, a cool day either way, and it's neat to know that there is at least a two digit percentage out there of where women work in the trades.

"Scams, online purchases, huge games, the biggest scan they're saying. In Canada, in 2022, was home improvement scams. Wow. And this was, here's what the person brought up. And I wanted to make sure that this is clear because we had this right here in good old Mississippi. Home improvement scams are usually perpetrated by door to door solicitors who approach homeowners and convince and charm them to let them work with your home. Oh yeah. So the thing they said was if someone approaches your home to do repairs. Now this happens a lot, especially during storms. There will be people everywhere. But if someone approaches you to do work, that doesn't mean that that's a bad contractor, not the wrong thing. What it does mean is that you really need to do your due diligence, run them through, make sure that they're licensed, ensured the whole 9 yards. Mississippi state board of contractors dot U.S. that's a good place to check and see if their license. But really, it's one of the things they say. This should throw your red flag. Not a red flag to stop, but a red flag to check, at least. If someone comes to your door to solicit work like that. But that doesn't mean everything. Kid came to my door the other day trying to mow my lawn. Here's some money. Thank you so much for that offer. Okay, I got real quick, I got an email from Pam, I want you to know Jeff, Pam has been eloping. I've been getting on other shows. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I know it. That's what I said in your chair the other day. She did. So Pam apparently snuck in on the money talk show. To talk about money. I wanted to talk about money. Very clear. You do not want to talk to me about money. So anyway, but she was talking about things that one could do to save money around the home. That sort of thing. Got an email regarding that show that happened yesterday. It said, do you have any tips for finding a house inspector? My house is about 18 years old. There are a few obvious things that we have repaired, but I'm sure there are things we don't think about. I heard Pam on another show. This morning talking about routine inspections and it sounded like great advice. Thanks Laura in biloxi. So when I, if I wanted to look for an inspector, I don't say inspect it like a girl. But if I wanted to these women's day. Come on. If I were to want to look for an inspector in my local market. Where is really the best place for me to look, Pam? I would go online and look for a reviews. From other people who've used inspectors. Well, is there a place that inspectors dot com or something where I can find inspectors? There are associations, but I wouldn't necessarily do that because you're not going to get reviews. You may get their credentials that you don't get their reviews on how they work with clients and you just want to, and we're in this age, folks. You're not going to buy anything without looking at the reviews on it. Right, but you're going to go to Google or go to next door. Right, but if I go to Google and I Google home inspectors and 30 names come up. Right. I don't know if any of those people are I'm not talking about good or not good. I mean, I don't even know if they're trained or not. So how do I know this is a real thing? I don't know if someone is a certified or. Well, you would look at most most home inspectors are going to have a website. And Mississippi in the state of Mississippi, I can't speak to other states. But in the state of Mississippi, you have to put your licensure number on there and I add all of our credentials like my inspectors all have contractors license. Right. We're all certified. So you can look at those type of credentials, but I'm going to tell you something. Just because you got credentials doesn't mean you're a good inspector. Well, I'm just trying to go against the person who says, yep, your house looks great, give me $400. Exactly. So that's why you want to look at people and get reviews from people who have used the inspector. In other words, the homeowner or the home seller. Right. What do you say? Your favorite thing to say is check the very last contract that we're working on. Yeah. Where did you work yesterday? Right. Well, we can't necessarily do that. There's some confidential confidentiality thing. That we have to deal with, our ashy standards are say that we can't, like, I can't tell you, if you wanted to buy a house that I didn't inspection on a couple of weeks ago and the deal fell through for whatever reason, and you call me and say, you did an inspection on that house. I can't talk about what I found. Because I don't own the information. Right. That's not mine to. It's like giving you the car keys to somebody. I can't do that. But Jeff, your point. I get that. So what you want to do is, and I'm telling you, the best thing you can do is go online and look and get verified reviews of people who have used that inspector. But you could say, yes, I just did an inspection for Jeff calling. Right? You could say that? Well, if you gave me permission to do that. But I'm going to be honest with you, people. I got the grocery store, folks. And I'm a little recognizable. And people will walk up to me and go, you did my own inspection 6 months ago and I'm like, if you say I did. Right. Well, true. Well, I'm doing okay. I mean, I've done in the 20 years I've been inspecting. So giving out that information. I think it would be a little bit different from an inspector's perspective. You're working with and how many houses a year do you build? Yeah, we're probably doing 20, 25. Okay. And I'm doing 5 to 600 inspections. Right. So you're going to ask me, sure. Give me some information. And let me just say this. And I'm probably going to get in trouble for saying it, but I stay in trouble. You want to talk to a client and not an agent. What do you mean by that? Well, you want to talk to the client who used your services and not necessarily. A real estate agent that's mad at you because the deal didn't go through. All right. All right, okay. Now you can go to the American society of home inspectors and look at licensure. But you can also go to the state of Mississippi. You can go to Mississippi real estate commission website and see all the all that does is tell you the number of when they were licensed. Now, another thing that I would like to do, you can also, the Mississippi real estate commission, unfortunately, is the governing board of our home inspectors. And you can file claims or if you've got a few have a complaint against an inspector, you can there is a way that you can kind of work through that process. So if you have complaints, it's MRE, C dot gov, I think. Mississippi commission dot gov. And it will give you, I think, the appraiser sport is now outside of the real estate commission. They're getting ready to have their own board. So that's being pulled out. So now you're just going to have home inspectors and realtors. And we just, you know, we love each other so much. They're going to have a big party for all of us to come together. And they're going to poison my drink. I just know they are. So I'm going to bring my own beverage whenever I go to that party. All right. You know what? I've got an email here that just came in. It says, please give me advice. A part of my front yard is sinking. I moved into the house in December 2012. I noticed that one area of the yard was lower and I did some dirt fill. This helped for a while, but it continues to sink. Who do I call to tell me what's going on? A call for utilities to mark what services are in that area.

You used a post hole digger was this in mechanized post hole? It was a manual. Shoulder length. Shoulder strength. Okay. So two poles and one of those grabber things. And what I do, in all fairness, ladies, I dig a little bit at a time and then I go down and I stop and I sit in my beverage. Right. And I meditate. Do you have any dig a little bit longer? Do you have any help for digging this kind of thing? No, it's Jimmy. I did it all by myself. Well, I mean, any hints, any helpers. Oh, oh, you mean tips. I don't know how to do it. Yes. You do it a little bit at a time. Don't be in a hurry. That's my thing. I dug the holes and then I sat back and what I've done is I have my quick Crete, that stuff is, you talk about a heavy 50 pound and 80 pound bags. Oh man, I can't pick it up. It's too much for me. Well, wouldn't it fail to tell this to make sure we keep our shovels and stuff sharp? Sharp. Keep it sharp. That would make a big difference. That makes a big difference. Another tip if you're going to dig holes is if you're going to dig a hole, the day before you dig that hole, go out and get your garden hose. And wet the ground. And with the ground real good because let me tell you if you're trying to dig into dry soil. Well, that's the reason I do my digging in the spring, right? Now, speaking of that, I've always, and I think it makes a stronger bond, once you put your bag creed in there, do not wet it. Just leave it alone. There's enough moisture in the ground and the drier concrete mix is the stronger it is. And remember, it's not a water solution. It's a chemical. Yes. And so I got those up, and I have one of those corner level things that you can put on the post to get it all leveled up. And then I took some, how would you say this? I took some steaks that were about four feet long. And I screwed them in on two sides. Not opposite sides. Adjoining sides. And then I got it straight and then I pushed those down into the ground to hold it. Right. So that it straight up and down. Now, what are we doing with these ten foot posts in the ground? Well, you know, I had a patio poured last year. I pulled just ripped out my rotten deck. And had a guy come in and put concrete in. And my umbrella was, it's lived a useful life. I've had it for like 15 years. So we're all hanging a tarp off of this. I decided that I wanted to get one of those sales. So I've got to date at my house. And it really gives a really nice. Now, what I did when I ordered it, the first one I got, I hit the wrong button, and when it came in, it was this really like, bright pink, and I was like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. So I sent that one back and got the one that is the color of the sky. This is what everybody's wondering. Okay. How deep did you drill the holes? How deep did my holes go? 18 inches. Okay. Okay, and no further. I knew everybody was wondering. Yeah. Okay. 18 inches down. And then what I do, and let me mention my quick creek trick. Is I have one of these and I've got to container in my shop. And when I get my quick creek, I back my Polaris right up to that container. And I break that quick create and I put it all down in one container. And then I have my little buckets, and I shovel it out when I need it. It's covered. I've got it contained. And I shovel it out into tiny little buckets. And then I put that in my little wagon and take it into the hot seam so complicated because I'm going to take the bag. I'm going to throw it on the ground. I'm going to take my shovel. I'm coming on top of the bag, and then I'm wasting everywhere. Yeah, then you got quick read everywhere. Right. And then I'm shoving it in the hole. But I'm doing it. Like 30 seconds. Yeah, and you're buying it as you go. Like 5 or 6 bags at one time. And then just keeping it in the shot. And I'm storing it because you're hoarding concrete. I'm hoarding concrete because it's so heavy. I can't, I can't pick that guy. Okay. That's part of women's day. You know, we can only do what we can do, right? We're going to get to more women's day stuff. But first, we're going to talk to Nick and Habsburg. Who's been waiting for just a minute. Oh, thanks. What's going on? Yeah, we need to move on from the post. Right, what's up, Nick? Thank you so much for having me on your show. I had a question about tile. My wife and I are not so happy with the tile that we that came with the house that we purchased in our kitchen. But we don't want to spend the money to replace other tile or flooring or something like that. That's just a ton of kind of deal. My wife had the idea of painting, it's not all. And I was just curious to know if you had any experience with that. It holds up. And then any kind of recommendations for that. Yeah. I have seen and worked with painted tile before I had a home that was built. This is when I was in Virginia, had a home that was built in the 60s. And had been, I don't even want to say modernized, someone painted it. Florida. Yeah, yeah. But it was this was on a backsplash. In the kitchen. And it looks great when I saw it. I realized Nick after about a month of being there. It was just paint. And any tile with, say, like a gloss kind of surface. If it's got that kind of surface on it at all, you know, kind of glossy or anything. Paint was just scratched right off. Yes, sir. On the floor. Oh, on the floor. I've never done it, never seen it, but in my mind, the money that it would cost to get a paint on that that would actually hold up to foot traffic. You're going to be cheaper to rip it out and redo it. Because it's going to have to be some kind of epoxy, and then is it going to stick to the glaze on that ceramic. Like a bonding agent, what type of foundation have you got Nick? It's a concrete slab. Concrete slab. Yeah, you know. Just pull it. I would pull it up. And you can rent those machines. That's right. And knock it up. And then instead of coming back with a tile, you could do what's it called. You could do LVP luxury luxury

Liz Peek: Publisher Made 'Woke' Edits to Goosebumps Without Approval
"Stine in the New York Post really upset because apparently even goosebumps has been has been cleansed or sanitized to appease the woke crowd, and they didn't even bother to tell the author. Can you imagine? I mean, what an insult is that? So apparently, even if you're one of the most revered authors in history, which Roald Dahl is and a wordsmith and someone who took every word very carefully, your work is not sacrosanct. And it was reassuring to me that in a heartbeat penguin books came back and said, well, don't worry, don't worry, we're going to still publish the originals. And by the way, on eBay, the original for going for thousands of dollars. So clearly there's an appetite for that. I also thought Todd, the whole thing that happened with Hershey's celebrating international women's day by celebrating a transgender. People really didn't like it for two days, boycott Hershey's trended on Twitter, which really, you know, it takes a lot to have that kind of position on Twitter for two days running. I think a lot of people just thought, wait a minute. This is not a woman. This is not celebrating women. I can tell you better how to celebrate women. And I did in my column, like celebrating mothers, mothers of children with developmental issues, or whatever you want to talk about, that's women, to me. And that's the kind of women we should be celebrating. So I must say, I'm also heartened. By the way, today, I read that there is a county in Pennsylvania, which has reversed its stand on being a sanctuary county. They're not going to do it any longer. And Todd, this brings home the reason the way this is going to change is because average Americans are going to wake up one day to find that their schools are overcrowded with undocumented people that their kids are not safe walking down the block in the afternoon anymore because of progressive views on how to treat criminals

World marks Women's Day but abuses, inequality still rampant
"There are demonstrations rallies and events around the globe today to mark international women's day. It's a day established to celebrate and demand equality for half the planet's population, but it's a long road ahead for countries such as Afghanistan, which has become the most repressive for women and girls since the Taliban take over in 2021. Hafiza is a former Kabul university law student. The worst situation is when your dreams are shuttered, and you are punished for being a woman. Islam had not banned women from their right to education. Our beloved prophet's wife was a businesswoman, while she was the wife of our beloved prophet. But we are not even allowed to study and get educated. 18 year old shahida was in the tenth grade when the Taliban took over, now she works in a yarn factory. Women don't have any rights in Afghanistan. Schools are closed, educational centers are closed, and all other options for women are closed. We just demand from the government to reopen schools and educational centers for us, and give us our rights. But there have been major advances. In Spain, the country on Tuesday passed a law requiring that women make up at least 40% of boards of directors for larger companies, the same will apply to Spain's cabinet, on Monday, United Nations secretary general Antonio Guterres noted that women's rights are being abused, threatened and violated around the world, and gender equality won't be achieved for 300 years on the current track. He says progress won over decades is vanishing because he says the patriarchy is fighting back. I'm Donna water

Deaths spiral: Americas spike in murders
"With the attention of the world media focused on the pandemic last year. it may have seemed as if there were fewer of the mass shootings for which america has become notorious this year. Lamentably there's no mistaking the trend on march sixteenth gunman in atlanta apparently targeted asian-americans. Grisly new details tonight. The atlanta spa shootings tax three massage parlours. In the northern suburbs of the city eight people were murdered. Roughly one hour six of them. Asian women days later ten more deaths at a supermarket in colorado shooting house claimed at multiple lives as the police put it in boulder. We had a very tragic incident today. Here at the king supers There was loss of life second mass shooting with multiple deaths and just one week in this country. Three killed at a house party gone wrong. North carolina six members of the same family in texas a mother and her two children shot by a man who then took his own life in new york. Those murders just in the first week of this month. The pandemic has led to reductions in many types of crime but in america murders seem only to be on the rise. The greatest rise in perhaps half a century twenty twenty was a traumatic year for america. Not only was there the covid nineteen pandemic which at this point is killed. Five hundred fifty thousand people but there was a huge uproar over racial justice in the wake of the deaths of unarmed. Black man in police custody that swept through the country in june injuries. Cologne is the economists. Washington correspondent both those things may have contributed to an extraordinary increase in murder in america and figuring out what trauma twenty twenty clauses increase in violence. I think is going to be really important going forward.

Women on the Line
In community and out of prisons
"In any given year hundreds of kids language behind bars in australia. The minimum age of criminal responsibility is ten in other words of both graded can be arrested and brought before corp camera is the only jurisdiction has taken steps theresa age this week on women on the line raise the age campaigner and solicitor. sophie Explains why locking up. Kids is not only traumatic for the child but exposes them to further And in the second half of the show to win times marissa's Chats bronwyn carlson a professor of indigenous studies at macquarie university. We want to thank maria for giving us permission to play his special international woman's day coverage but first up. Let's look at the campaign to raise their age. Welcome to woman on the line sophie. Thank you very hurt before we look at raise the age campaign. I thought it'd be important to discuss some of the issues that kind of a span the campaign. so let's stop from the top. What factors lead to youth offending proably aware but in australia children as ten year old can be arrested by police and putting the present. So we're talking about extremely young children when we talk about these ideas offending offending anything Maybe an out of home care who Throws them dinner across the room because they get frustrated right through to the things that we might move typically think about like lifting or Some sort of property graffiti something like that. So there's a whole Spectrum of how young people might get caught up in the criminal justice system aboriginal and torres to own the kids of on will likely to be picked up by police arrested put in prison cells than non indigenous kids and the reason that this is a combination of voice over policing so these kids just thing more visible to police and police targeting these these children more often and policies which make lot hotter for these keys high level of poverty and more insecure in unaffordable housing. Things like that got you. And so what happens when children do come into contact with the criminal justice system i had is there. Life generally pan out so again it really depends on who the child is So as i said keep the jiang. ten can come into contact with criminal justice system for that means they might be arrested by police. Taken to a police lockup cell or the night with they might be held that we brought before court and it will be decided what happens to that child Kids that i worked with minimum territory. you know often within sent to sent to juvenile justice detention centers so effectively presents You know where they can be held. If any length of time ed alternative of course his kids particularly to on average charge two kids who come from more privileged background. They might get diverted by police. They might be given a warning that might be taken hunch their parents so a lot hangs on how the police interact with the children. Right the reason. I ask that question was to sort of look at what happens. Like how does prison exists the issue so these kids are going in for minor problems but what does the criminal justice system due to them. Yeah so you almost nothing. Good comes out of the criminal justice system. All the medical evidence tells us that The younger child comes into contact with the criminal justice system. The more likely that they will stay engaged. So that means you know you pay if a kid is eleven years old when they first have contact with police them much more likely to later in life including when adult continue to have that that contact with the criminal justice system and there were lots of reasons to this. But they're all pretty simple when you when you take a kid a child away from their family away from schooling away from all those social structures and support if extremely traumatic for the child. A young person's brain is developing until the about twenty five itchy tilles very young so it disrupts the way brain can can form mature and clerk even basic things like egypt taken out of the formal education system. Says six months very hard for you to reengage with that when you get back. It's very hot. Eatery engage with your friends and your family and third. These kids have a lot of difficulty issuing than normal lives in the community officer being disrupted and very traumatic way by putting these children tension sensitive

Feminist Utopia
We're Frustrated. What about YOU?
"Today in our feminist. Utopia governor cuomo resigned and stops kissing young women at weddings or stops being garbage. Human being. I mean he created a toxic work environment not just for the women s but for the men that worked for him to. But we'll get to that. Yes chalet recording on national women's day last year we were on a boat celebrating international women's day with an all female crew for the first time it was amazing and i wish we were back on that boat. We were in a bubble of just being pampered and surrounded by powerful women and it was amazing until covid happened in. it wasn't so amazing and instead of being surrounded in a bubble. We were worried that we were surrounded by five. Rhys but i i was worried. They were gonna cut seattle off because trumpet actually made sounds like well we just isolate seattle. It will spread. We all know how that turned out and happy international women's day. I guess we can start out with some good vibes because today on international women's day joe biden has signed Two executive orders geared toward promoting gender issues. The first executive order establishes a gender policy council within the white house and it's Reformulating that office from the obama administration that was disbanded by trump. But this one is going recognizes. That discrimination happens to both genders. So i think that's a positive thing and we hope that that will lead to more equality not just in the united states but around the world and then the second executive orders directed at the department of education and it Reverses the controversial rule on campus sexual assault and harassment that was issued last year by betsy devos. Donald trump's education secretary. So these are two Positive advancements and we will applaud those with some good vibes and biden also signed an executive order About election rights. And so we'll get into that a little bit more than we talk at the end of the show about. Hr one We can't count on executive orders to save us. But at least women who are on college campuses or more protected now because of that executive order and i am really glad that biden chose to do it today. Yeah we're gonna go from good vibes to pet peeves. I decided Section called pet peeves because this has been highlighted in the news. And it's really annoying me. People miss naming the george floyd trial. It's not george floyd trial. It's derek chauvin trial for the killing of george floyd and we should know derek chavez name as a murderer that he is and when you miss name it and call it. George floyd it places the blame on the victim and causes more pain to the victim's family and misses the point. I think we need to hold. Derek chauvin accountable and make his name famous for being murderer. I think it's the perfect example of a micro aggression that even progressives make without thinking about it and when ted bundy headed trial. We didn't name his victims. We didn't say it was the kimberley trial. It was ted bundy trial. But in this case. I think this is one of those little deep seated things that we don't think about until someone like you pointed out like i hadn't thought about it until i read it in today's research but i hadn't even. I didn't even in all fairness i didn't know the trial was starting so i didn't even know that but we'll do hell no hell of a time finding jurors so the 'cause the videos out there like the Selection process started and then it was halted. There's some concern about whether it's going to be a second degree or a third degree murder charge. So yeah they. They were going to add the third degree murder charge to make sure he doesn't get off on a manslaughter charge. Just go to jail for three years.

"Late where is controlled. A control to be moving. But it's just oh here. I'd like Rare so as far as who could support international women's day national women's day is not is not country is not a country group organization specifics. Snow no-one government ngo charity corporation academic institution women's network or media hub is solely responsible for the day belongs to all loop collectively everywhere. Gloria steinem which. I'm not sure who's used world. Renown families what the hell's of i see the word feminist so many times a family is everything. Do not need to be a woman fabulous. Not at all. do you support. Women's do you support women like are you supporter of women in your dreams or would they wanna do ya like in general. Are you for women like are you not like now we gotta take women like are you four women like like. I want women to do good. I want women to you know like if you're a supporter women in your feminist. You're someone who you know is there in is basically what that means. Essentially am i mean we. We can get Our hands dirty and get relief bertha basis of it of it if feminists and that's that's the you don't need to be a guy or girl you wish e- whatever your pronoun is i read some Somebody i saw in somebody's story there. Were like there I think other trends. But they're like. I'm not a man and a woman. I don't identify with this day but then like this situation with their message was like you know. I don't celebrate this day but i do recognize those struggles of women in how far they have come in. He's like. I want to celebrate that. And i wanted a supporter of that. 'cause stave leads away. 'cause i feel like women's rights have led the way for other initiatives. You know so. I feel like definitely Yeah that's i thought that was really. That was something great. Like i have to read from somebody. You know who's non binary that was a member really understood with the whole nonbinary issue is because because it's like i don't know too many people i don't know too. Many people are basically transfer new. lgbtq community. i don't really have to answer. So i can't really speak on that so so i'm just going to lighten Low key sites. I don't get no backlash we have an idea like. Let's say you know what nonbinary means nonbinary means that it's a spectrum of gender identity. That isn't neither masculine or feminine. So it's not any one of those. It's it's somewhere in the middle or it's a mixture books so they don't necessarily identify with just male or female they. They think that there are other. They're more they're more to that. There's more to that is not just. It doesn't just end million female. So that's all that means is that their identities are kind of like a goal against what the what we're with the male and female roles are and that's really what that's all emmys year breath so so gloria steinem who is now only feminising journal also journalists and activists who wants explain. The story of women struggle for equality belongs to no single feminists anyone organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights so make international woman's day your day and do what you can't to truly make a positive difference for women hayfield about this quote. I agree with her. Have how do you feel about the like a because as a man. I'm curious like where do you do. Relate can you relate. I mean. I mean in a sense year even even i'm not even know i'm not a female or even though i'm not a female but i kind of get what he's talking about here. Hard like for me is very hard for me to relate to every every single situation. That woman goes through. What is like you know bad ahead. As the other day he had to deal the other. The ozone hole grows on the live casino singer Her name's leeann banks. She got neon green here. Who decided to do some shit like that. It's like why are you trying to please please me. So so wait. So what was it. It was challenged to challenge. Be kind and not. Everything needs to be a challenge. You know even though it is you know we got to remind ourselves that know. That's a weird one though. It's kinda it's kinda very open ended like i don't really even all. That's that's why. I don't understand tick tock in clubhouse nowadays i recently just got into co pals end. It is kind of an agenda. What is the height behind. Because i've been listening to grassroots podcast on spotify for the past couple of weeks and was talking about clubhouse and i was trying to really understand. What's the hype behind it like. What's the story behind it. i For mind from what i understand. I've used it a handful of times. for my understanding is just like a live conversation that you're having with multiple people in a chat room and you guys are all discussing a something like it could be a panel by anything could be about like strangers. Yeah and so sometimes you have. The sometimes certain people like bullet in the industry will join the conversation. So i have a friend. Her name is tanya shots. I mean she told me she was a. She told me she was in a in a clubhouse like chatroom with who was it will like our rapper was but she was in house with like a rapper like it was like talking to him in like they were like going back and forth and so they feel like you just gives you an opportunity to to have access to to all types of people and i think it's cool. I think it's a lot of people are actually really gravitating towards a but it's kind of. It's kind of like a podcast. You can't Releasing so if you you have to catch otherwise you don't catch a you can never like you missed it. Like it's you're never gonna be able to participate in that chat again. So i think it's it's more it's kind of kind of inside a little bit of a flake of fear of missing out like a huddle on a miss out on this. You have multiple people across the world and i think yeah. I think it's an awesome platform for for networking definitely on the reason. Why i'm not a two. I'm not into tiktok game clubhouse and stuff that because there's a douse this always going to be a downside to certain things especially especially bullying. Which i'm not really which i'm not really cool with right. Now what which one you're not going with. I'm not cool with the bullying. That's going online in these social media apps and stuff including including tiktok and stuff. Oh there will always be. I mean that will always exist in in create a social media platform of an app. If you if there's gonna be if there's going to be bullying going on late to be is it's just a disservice is like a face. Well he's crazy to be. I i feel like the People who create the apps first social media apps. They're not creating with the purpose of bullying people. It's gonna be random people as you know. Bullying people especially tros zilly's and the fleas in other words if the fleas means internet internet thugs. I didn't know rats. Lizzy also new one albany so so. I didn't know there was close to international women's day. So was i didn't know a so so the goes like this for international women's day purple green and white articles of international women's day purple signifies justice and dixie permeates gray symbolizes hope white White represents purity abet a controversial concept. The colors originated from women's social and political union in the uk of in one thousand. Nine hundred ninety. Eight lender is crazy They need to update that had they updated So matic all of those. The white for purity like that is Oh why why we do that. Why would we set our. Would they set themselves up to be like as even no. But that's definitely needs to be corrected way for purity. All the everything about that is wrong lake. Why does have to signify pure good always. That's always been a thing like why why. Why is white good another. Not even that but then like bill period like the purity part in how it correlates with international women's day. We're not like. I'm not pure like i don't know if you're a woman you're not pure like if you're you're very pure essential. I'm sure your age. I'm that is pure. And i don't know everyone that wants to. He called lord even like i don't know any like progressive. What woke women educated women. I don't know any woman on. And i know many of them a lot of for a long time. I don't know any of them. That would be down to be called. Pure like no one's like i care like nobody's nobody's no. We're not we don't want to be. We don't want to be perceived that way because Completely everything we're we're going. We're we're striving to work towards again. So you know. I think that those colors. I love purple leg. Room is purple as you could see as a spy light in the background and like oh no this is a little. Dj.

What is net worth the international women's day mean to you as a dj listen to music as a dj As a dj in as a producer international women's day to me means I tried to for me. It's it's important because i feel super underrepresented in the industry I read a statistic that about like five percent Women cur deus in the industry in like like like an even a smaller percentage of women. dj's in the industry and so for me. I think it's important that i continue doing what i do now. Only because i love is a form of self expression in escape from capitalism asking you know like yes they will. Larry currently exist in issue of of a therapy in all of that. But i feel like i do it more to be to encourage other younger women. Sue pursue music production pursue. Dj in pursue. music in. General are like it's it's important because it's intimidating. we have a lot of. We have a lot of women singers. We have a lot of women. We have a lot of those and to take away anything. They're all amazing We have such a crazy range of singers and performers. I just feel like a lot of the time. Women are like pigeonholed or cornered into being a singer into being a boxer. Just be a singer or you sing. Nice just do that. Just do that. And i feel like there's a lot of women that are feel boxed in and they're like no. I don't want it to be a singer. I also want to write music. I also want to learn guitar. I also wanna dj Make my own music in produced. So i feel like you know i do it for those Alike i i do it. I do it. And i tell people that i do and i'm really proud that i do it. It's hard work. it's a lot of you know it's it's a whole nother beast. But i i always tell. And i always advocate for it. I don't want women feel intimidated. That they can't do music production or they jade's it's a man's world or like you know won't talk not a man one of bill zaki. It's not a man's world and when we're around there's magic in you know i you know it's it's all mental. These guys are just here we need to reclaim this. I feel like there should be more collaboration with women. I right now. i'm currently working with To amazing female artists working when Banks issues the up and coming artists. She does singing. modeling is thinks. She's i forget where she's from originally from new york. But i'm working with her and i'm working with another fellow producer. Geraldine 'as and so. We had a little session. I think blake two nights ago and it went really well and it was just really amazing. It was just really good. If i'll always feels good to work with other women in in music and feels amazing to create with them and just we were just jamming and you know we made a few few beats. We did our thing and it was really empowering. I felt really happy that we're able to have that moment in able to be there for each other in that way in encourage each other i learned a lot from that i learned so much and i hope they did to. You know. i'm always trying to share my knowledge about music and production and on my process making music. My process jane I'm always shine so like give this information especially to women you know. I have another rarely. I have a good friend of mine too. She's getting into jane. And i'm always like i'm always encouraging them and i'm just also giving them like any tips that i wish i knew you know because it's hard it's hard as a woman into tawana do dj to honor produce intimidates as you. Don't you don't want to sound like you know like why are you even doing this. You know you know. You don't want that so i feel like i always tell anybody like please like rely on me. Come to me. You know like a source of knowledge. Like whatever i know you know and i i just one more i just want more women's collaborate with so that's what it means to me like definitely it's exciting. I've like there has been more of More elected everybody's. I feel like women at least in this around are starting to band together. You know we're able to we're gonna take we're taking over. I mean we've already have so it's just a matter of continuing and you know doing that in influencing future generations you know yeah before even before Before we get it to you know learning how did you get the nickname not to to the people for those of you who may may not notice listening in watching on youtube enclaves out there. "Like no and i get an i kinda get How they're some black business. This people in black businesses and stuff like that. They tried to throw things in your face and everything nicely. Lino they have. The inaugural shit is not even good. Quality was covering and everything and it takes time. It takes time to be making money. You're not gonna get millions of dollars in one shot deal you just like youtubers youtubers. They don't they're not making. They're not making millions of dollars overnight in a long time. You gotta get your views it's alive. It's a lot of time and energy. You would do a lot of miana. Yeah you're you're you're doing when you're doing everything yourself it's it's harder you know. Everything takes much longer so he should be so blessed that he has a team and he has a manager or whoever is helping him run he should hire someone to run his social media. Though 'cause he sucks at it but Yeah i don't know all that though it's already crazy in note that somebody's already running. Joe biden his twitter account are they. I mean i don't see him as the type anyway. i don't think he. I don't see him as type anyway. To know yeah. Speaking of a team annan reunites with viacom in terms of in terms of the wound. Show now what. Now when i heard about this and i read this on complex which i have right now and everything. But but even though he doesn't have the even known the candidate doesn't have the rights to show and everything is which is kind of belongs to viacom. Which is the cooperation and stuff like that. I feel i. It's it's it's probably. I don't know if that's really a good idea to go back. Divide commun- everything even though he apologized to the jewish community and stuff like that but at the same time he did speak is marin on certain things on his cannons class. Podcast and everything. And i kind of feel like it taking a taking back something that you previously had along with calling Chico being in dc farm. They they were with the amount of loyalty that they had for nick. Cannon or these years It wouldn't be a good idea. What would it be a good idea to go back. Divide viacom on. I mean i. I feel like he wanted that. I feel like he I feel like maybe. That's not the best like i guess for his career. You mean like to be kinda like backtracking in kind of begging for his job back. Is that what you're saying. I'll i'll days because he's already hosting the masked singer which is which is on wednesday season five on fox five. Yeah so we're really make any sense to be going back the other stuff and everything. He has a radio show in in in in california. I wonder how you be keeping all all stuff. If he has beat his either. A hand like definitely has his has a team like in hoping. I'll always projects. But i feel like me personally. The only reason i would. I think that it would be bad. Like it is a bad idea for him to go back in work. Viacom against the wall now is like actually like they already have like such a deserve kind of weird like it's already awkward. So i don't know like a slap in the face that she go being carlos miller in dc on fly. That's it's jeopardizing other relationships. He other business other friendships other professions other like entertainment relationships. He has does. And it's also kinda like not worth it. Because i feel like they already fired you so they're like you like it. Let's say like any job you get fired. And like they daybreak. They take you back like when you go back to the giants matt awkward. You're like it's so like at that point. I'd rather just get a different job or get a new job. I wouldn't want to be in the in network environment. I would rather just go our separate ways so that was. That's how i feel about it. So yeah you imagine like yeah. It's just awkward year. I hear you man. John nick cannon. He'll figure it out but i was reading. I was reading that he had been. He's been working for viacom like he's forty right. Now he's been working for viacom and making content in all these shows since like ninety eight. They have a very long long relationship successful relationship. I feel like. I feel like in away like they definitely. I mean to these like 'cause what did he say what was he saying. He was basically his comment is anti-semitic correct like you were talking to the jewish community jewish. But he was speaking his mind when he did. The we did the interview to. I forget i forget. His name though abdul Up to dua i forgot. Yeah i He was it. Was i remember but yeah i feel like he amends but he misleads some he just needs. I guess needs to. Just be a little more sensitive. I know he was speaking his mind. But it gets really like when you started talking about religion and politics. Everyone already knows that. That's you gotta definitely speak before you think. I think that's what happened in that moment. He wasn't he was just like talking. You know he was on his radio. Show or podcast in wasn't do maybe. It was just something that just occurred to him. Thought he just said it in he. I'm sure at the after. He said he was like fuck. Why did i say that you know like tam. But it happens. It happens all the time. And it's happened to me like you know and i'm sure really well like when you see you this kind of like our speaking. You just kind of say something. And you're like. I didn't really think that through like i really think completely threw say what i gotta save. But yeah everybody's gotta show back though. I'm glad but the only be only the only downside is that he doesn't own the rights to juan out though. Okay yeah that's the only downside back. Yeah so yeah. I guess in in like the big picture he should just focus on the stuff that he does own the rights to to be honest with you. I would do that. Iran remember from the nickelodeon days would definitely speaking of the nickelodeon days. You know what. Today's special day is nickelodeon days. No mailing we. Would you say like speaking of nickelodeon days. What is today. do you lower today. Special days today at today's a very special day. It's a national women's.

"Yeah that just seems very unnecessary. Like very like Ostentatious like just trying to show off like just flexing for like i'm to say really like this is cited to like deflects. This is how he decided this is that we were flexing. Okay it's bragging rights to me though man. Yeah sounds like it's like it's like it's like rapper. Who would actually you know. Flexed for the graham. Taking pictures of the amount of money that they haven't every gang which is so fucking ridiculous to me and this is why people get easy target to be guild and shit. Yeah let's how you have like you know these young rappers you know. They're like over here. Walking around with hundreds of dollars thousand dollars in her pocket chains and everything. I've heard it's happened so many times. They've been roberts are like nine killed over it you. I noticed away. What are these people going to learn bragging in people's faces based on the amount of money you have which is probably something that they don't want everybody knowing obviously. Don't want them yeah. It's almost like winning the lottery. And you and you haven't millions of thousand everything but then you know about anyway saying you were to you know. Keep a low profile. That's what is who. That's what i would do. i would too. I would be like I like I'm going to be not telling. Nobody i'm only tell my accountant. That's it helen. I'm not even gonna tell. I wouldn't even my family. I wouldn't even saw my family. I wouldn't tell our the. Yeah i don't know do. It applies news. There's a tweet that he said about black businesses and stuff and it goes something like this. I wanna get your take on this s. Stop wanting me to spend my money with you and shot with you just because you black made me wanna spend money with you because you got a good product. Good customer service and a good price point because if that's bad i don't want i don't want it no matter what color you you his. Wow i guess. I guess what he's trying to say is like like to to to most to most people. You can't force people to brian stuff. If if the quality of the product is not good. I mean that's what also for me. What do you think i feel like i do. I do feel that way. Initially when i read the tweet. I felt that way. I was like no use rate. You know as a consumer I totally understood where he was coming from. But that's from like a capitalist mentality a capitalist Mindset of of like mimi me me me like you know because i feel like i shouldn't be like it should be more about making black businesses a priority in order in order to help and start building a stronger community to generate others to also prospering make their own businesses. And i feel like for some reason like Thousands like not that he just doesn't see it that way that goes beyond that like it goes really like supporting black businesses. Not just it goes on beyond the different levels of it of just a bean of just the product. You know. it's more to it. In so i feel like he's totally overlooked. That and i feel like on top of the various obstacles that black businesses already have in in owners have to overcome it like to lay getting the support of their own. People shouldn't be one of them and somehow it is somehow that that's another obstacle that black businesses have to overcome is just getting their own people to support. I think that's not. I feel like there should be people. Should kind of re address thought understand. Why why are they. Why are they why. Why do they. Why does he feel that way. Why is he so anti the just. I think that he had just has such an arrogant tone about it. Because he's rich. And i feel like he's doesn't negatively using his platform to like knock Black people to put to bring black people down. Why are you using your platform to do that. Like why. why would you tweet that. Such a negative thing like only negatively would come from a tweet like that you know and i feel like instead of using his twitter in his platform to to promote you know more black businesses in to help generate better black community to help them make strive like oh have even more of an he's just over here like chiming in nonsense. I feel like is just. I dunno i would. I wouldn't follow him. I wouldn't release support him. How you how about how about you. Come up with better tweets. How about you come up with better music. Like why am. I even here listening to you. Know i can live the same after he says how about you tweet. Better more enlightening better more uplifting. Seriously they're like oh you. Why don't you want to use boy. You make the side of the example and you know and i feel like another thing like with black businesses like you know a lot of businesses like like not even just like businesses but a lot of businesses. When you off you you sometimes. You can't afford the best quality things you know. Sometimes you you on a budget so you're just starting off because you're starting out doesn't mean that you don't deserve to have a business it doesn't mean you don't deserve to be your own. You know business your own boss. You know and i mean you like you should like that should be something that you can also take into consideration is like you know. It's it's a it's a long. It's a journey so you know like a lot of them you know they start off with not the best but then eventually they get to that level because there is the support because people believe in them. Andy believe in their products. I feel like just because they don't have the best doesn't mean that they don't deserve to run their business. And i mean like at that point he might as well just say. He doesn't support black businesses like at this point. He should say that like he doesn't need to be over here trying to point the finger but yeah the how i've of.

"A novel. That's what i'm working on right now. So this week is international women's week so we had internet on monday and this year's theme is to challenge. I was just wondering if you've got any words of advice for guarantees of women out there around this year. I think it's important to challenge. Some of the established notions about what women can and cannot. Do you know one of the questions that i get asked. All the time is how do you balance it. How do you balance being a mom of four with a legal career and with your writing with other things act suit and i just say you know the way that i balance it is the i no longer pursue balance. I know that. I'll never be executing all of those roles perfectly at any point in time or even very well and i think we need to challenge the notion that as women. We need to do everything. Well all the time domestic professional vocational. Whatever it is there. I think some people started to think over time that you know women. In establishing that we are equal and just as capable in deserving equal pay and equal treatment that we should do all aspects of our roles equally while at all times. And i've never been able to do that. Not only things we need to challenge any of those functions is a full time job. So i was when i said at the start ups. Hey kudos anybody who modest do all three or four full time roles. Well all the time. I am not superwoman at challenge that motion image human being trying to fully realize mike potential on myself and sometimes that moves it. Some things.

"Phoenix lawyer etc. Much of that is reflected in the novel. Mrs a thing. This novel candlelight. My love song to barbie. I have some really early memories. I was speaking to my parents just recently and saw memories. Actually go back to before it was two years old are not and we actually lived in a house on this beach. Harry smith beach incident. Fellow is not a particularly picturesque each. It's not great for bathing. But i do remember sort of walking along the beach with my dad and i remember just having a special relationship with the sea and that has continued for the rest of my life is a love hate relationship. I certainly think that aspect of my life insolence. The novel in a big way in terms of my career. What i would probably say. Is that mighty legal. Training helps me with getting to the bottom of the story. So i tend to start writing a story. I'll hear character my head or i will see a scene being played out. And then there's this curiosity i wanna know like what. Why are you saying that. Why particular thing happen. I start asking all these questions around what i'm hearing or seeing. I think my legal training actually helps the back. Because i've said quite a few times now that you know the characters that tend to talk to the tend not to tell the whole truth so it helps to be able to ask some good questions find out what's really going on quite apart from that. I think my research skills definitely helped with my writing for things that i don't know i haven't personally experienced that helps but yes certainly my love affair with the beach. I mean i sort of teamed into you know the beginning of knowledge of myself in the eighties i would have been about eleven years old and so it just felt like it was a little bit of an old tobacco period of time. I remember the edens fondly hundred addresses walkmans. All these things that you know. You don't really see now even though shoulder pads you know are making a bit of a comeback but there are lots of other things that haven't quite made by kit so it was really wonderful to be to write vote that reach create that world in that period of time when i was kind of discovering who i was within the context welby free things happening in eighteen. So yancheng knows a summerbee influences. That made their way. It's this book. It's no kind of small faith there that you've described in terms of chocolate the creative writing compassion. Your legal work bringing up a family. Like what's kept you driven i ryan the reiten. How did you manage to keep that going to get say. Just being nominated for all sorts of awards which is amazing if i have a story in my head and not actually working on it over time. It's kind of like it nags e. and it's actually to focus on other things. Because i really wanna get to us in my head. So the means they. I don't think i ever be cited really to pursue racing or to cheat going with writing. I think that's something that i'm compelled to do is just a part of me. I'll do it anyway but in terms of pursuing publishing opportunities in trying to warn my craft on almost late there these saying polls that come up in life that saying this way and that happened with neha law there were. Here's a time bag. Got really immersed in other things. I remember when my boys were quite young and there was a period of time where i just totally focused on them. I was a new mom. You know two boys two young boys and just all about them. And i would have restored in my head coach night. Me nigerian night on. Eventually i had to realize that is a part of myself. That is something that. I need to nurture a low to grow just as will to fulfill the other roles in my life so i really felt overtime. Like i just didn't have a choice. It was just something that i needed to do. So you know. I would in my spare time. What people consider spirit time i would be. You know reading something writing. Something looking at the paris review looking for publishing opportunities thinking about competitions not go away to the colony for a couple weeks and just really soak in this very nurturing atmosphere community of like minded people who understood this compulsion who wanted to hear what i have to say into share and exchange and so on so it was just something. It's a compulsion something that i can't walk do it. I just can't imagine not doing it. So it something that. I had to drive myself to do. It was just something that just came. Naturally i would do things alike even now. If there's something that i'm writing on a have a particularly rough leak at work or i have you know stuff to do with the kids on sauna. During the day. I will get up at three in one in a not labatt asleep and just you know right and then get ready for work and the funny thing is when i do that. I just saw energize. Because i feel as if bast where i'm meant to be it actually gives me some sort of boost so here i can't. It wasn't a case of having to drag myself. is like bliss. I really love to be in that space. What's next for you. Hopefully when this award what else. That would be amazing. So right now i am working on a collection of slash fiction and then i'm also working on a new nozzle. I don't have the full story yet. So about may sound low funny but sometimes for me. My story is almost like somebody gives me a story like a b. to foster care for and nurture and played the best of my skills and my abilities and my thinking to it on eventually to release it into the world. That's kinda how it is in the fullness of time it will reveal itself so it's a collection of fox fiction and.

We're to single individuals right. I wanna know how. How is it that you are here today. Like what brought you insist. Single dumb no. I'm definitely nice question now. Like i think it's a real question. Yeah and it's a real way to answer while you answer so like why you single now really. Why are you single. That brought you here today because this is different i look i look at it like this right. You go into a relationship. Let's say a person you respond to that. Because i met a doe person and they ask me out is so. That's why i'm here the always g game now. It's a real question. It's not like it's not a probing in that kind of context. I think you want to know why still single. That's a lot to add. Not my thing is. I'm not saying like i'm not asking asking like they've been single for awhile. I don't know nothing if they nowadays they've been divorced dude like that just opens up so many can of worms are keeping it. We don't have to talk about anything. You don't wanna talk to but i want to know. Why are you here today. What was it about me. right if you're g statement is 'cause i met you adobe shit or there was someone about you. Yes the guy Right i'm always gonna put myself out there to let you know that you're more than welcome to do more of the wealth than fall like my attitude is always. I'm willing to be vulnerable and transparent with you. I whenever you decide you can. But i have no issue being that i right when i'm asking the question i'm asking for real innocent place where listen most being that. I have a lot of friends. I know a lot of women. The reality situation is they always talk about this like this veil where they just don't know about his line is he. Married is yet kids and the moon does have a right so like they're they're guarded already near looking to see how how open are how honest. He's going to be before she casinos. What she's willing to do right so she has to protect yourself. So when i asked the question i'm asking the question from a position of i'm already going to be transparent with you. Know how i got here see but the thing about it is like on the first day. Are you already ready to lock it in. I think this men and women start to have these different issues right. Because if i'm ready to lock something then we have conversations right friends. Know ain't nothing you know like you. Gotta you gotta be bordering for on i. I wouldn't. I wouldn't say that you my friend and so i wouldn't want to have these. Maybe these type of conversations. I i also try to keep it light. I'm keeping it. The only reason i'm keeping in light is because i just want to build a five right like i if we progress the like i mean why do you need to know that much information about me if we don't progress anywhere no no. That's right is that so when we know then you'll know that's how i respect you for me. I'm i'm naturally inquisitive now when you should be right but with like when when people start to divulge that type of information about themselves. That's where they start to form those attachments. Like oh. I thought he really liked me. This is where girls starts to go a little crazy. Like oh he like me and he's asking these questions and they start attaching shits where it don't belong like No i was just asking 'cause we were here having conversation right. So generally when you shannon that kind of information is because we are building thinking about moving to the next step otherwise why do you need to know about anything other than came here to have a good time tonight so my question is are you dating for just or you dating with the purpose so dating with a purpose it becomes purpose right so we go on day two three four and five. That's the purpose right. So i wouldn't assume that we were. That's what we start having those conversations. Because i wanted to them that we're going on to three four and five. If you're not interested in moving forward then we can handle the first date is generally just like oh i wanna see issue about like i to see how that vibe is gonna be just like us. One on one with chemistry is like you know you can always tell you i feel like people can hide everything and so you get to that one on one alone time then as determine everything you want to see about a half. I'm definitely trying to have fun but at the same time. Keep it a to because my attitude is. I'm spinning real money. Some become tired like when you asked that question you you might get a real answer. I'm saying that might be little to overwhelm. You might be for me or for there for them right like they could have been through a divorce. They had a man who was abusive to them. Like i mean. Do you wanna go down that rabbit hole on your are are so. Here's here's my mentality. Yaw mentality georgia's battalions listen. I don't need to go to date seven to figure out you ain't the one i'm going to be me. I'm jewish twenty four seven right so when i come into the game you could ask me any question. And that's why. I think i'm unfiltered do like i'm you can ask me anything. I can always tell you prefer not to answer any right now and you could do the same thing too. I don't feel comfortable answering that question now. Fine next topic is nothing. But that kills the vibe now george it could be triggering depending on what you know. What's going on her life. Like that question could trigger like and the reason why i'm here today is because i was was beat my ass no no. Let's be clear. This is not the first question it goes out. I bill as we talk about but she said like what's your like what's your i. Oh no not the first question racist that first date conversations your dining with somebody after two hours the conversations go a million different places one of the questions that i know that i'm probably going to ask is. How did you get here today. I'm saying like that. I don't i just 'cause we're getting to know each other. Yeah but that's so heavy like so many other things you get asked like i like. How did you hear from a perspective of how well traveled. You are like how. I think double double a good first. Conversation is where was your last vacation. And what do you plan to be next vacation. That's a great. You tell a lot by what people say yes you could dissect that and learn a lot from. What's the goal of a first date. I can we talk about. That was my goal goal on if for fine. I'm fine. I wanna enjoy this experience I think the. I think the goal is to have fun but there are objectives. Okay there multiple objectives. My thing is that every. I feel like you learn and you grow through experiences right so in this first experience that we have a. What have you. The goal is to to keep it somewhat light into.

Is sonia thank you for having made you to look i. I wanna say that the messages you received from your family and especially your mother growing up or such a tremendous example of female empowerment and a genuine belief in human spirit. You were taught that you only have this life to pursue your dreams and goals and that nothing can get in your way so long as your mind believes it you can achieve it while if every young girl or woman receive this message growing up. What could be accomplished on planet earth. So really really impressed by that. And you've talked a lot about your spiritual beliefs and faith. And i wanna ask you. What is going to remind as you ascend a mountain. do you go into a meditative state. Will you rely on your deep spiritual beliefs and constantly have to retain mindfulness in assessing the physical challenges. Along the way i would imagine. There's a variety of protocols and situational awareness. That is needed. But i'd really like her more from you on that. Because in my estimation this mindset is what separates those who make it to the top and those who unfortunately do not on different stages of climbing i have a different kind of a mindset. I would say that. If i fain like there there might be avalanche. There might be a route wash. That might be bad weather. Something which has detained my plans to climb a mountain. I get into a buddy confrontational mode. Because i am. I'm trained as a soldier. And i had to fight my adversity so at times i started seeing the mountain. Asthma adversity. it happened to me on mount everest. I had to in my second attempt. Also i had to turn back from three thousand feet twice before i made my tent and succeeded so in those two attempts i started challenging everest. That either you can give me death or injury you can go ahead and give me that and i will keep on doing what i'm capable of doing. So sometimes i get into that kind of confrontational mode. Where i see that. Yes the mountain in front of me. Is the obstacle that i have to overcome he. It is an enemy. And i have to fight it with all my might that i have sometimes from vivid me. There are certain sentences accord or something but have support him that just springs up bent. The conditions are really tough. I'm climbing exhausted and the going gets very very tough. I have seen these flashes. Coming from within a volume by Kipling everybody had about displaying very famous swim. If so there was this lions from this point if that some everything is finished and nothing is left to new that still a wasting your head which says hold on so at one time this would hold on just a up in my mind and i just continued. I just held on and kept my foot one foot after another in front official. So that is how it happens sometimes. It is ready spinach with because london's are so beautiful. I get into that meditative state also but i contemplate the nature of life seeing a mountain see a mountain the stance alone so anybody who is strong mighty and wants to rise high. Perhaps in life would be like that alone solitary having his own battles and also facing all kinds of storms videos rain gold snowfall everything but still standing very tall and after that i absolve that seed they also the cloud at times at times it is just sunny so this is how life also is on. Mountain's what i love the most about is that i don't have that usual crowd around me.

Grammys to partner with Berklee, ASU for study on women in the music industry
"The Grammys say they're teaming up with Arizona State University and the Berklee College of Music in Boston for a study. Looking at women's involvement in the music industry is Kcrw's Terry Glacier reports. The announcement coincides with International Women's Day and comes a week before this Sunday's Grammy Awards. The Recording Academy's taking some heat in recent years for nominating and honoring more men than women for Grammys, and that's the case yet again this year. The academy reports that out of the 853 nominees who are up for awards less than a quarter, 23% identify his women. Part of that is because the Grammys honor not just performers, but also technical jobs like producers and engineers, which are predominantly held by men in 2019, the recording academy kicked off in an initiative called Women in the Mix. Encouraging musicians and record labels to consider at least two female candidates every time they hire producer engineer the academy says progress is slow going so the goal. The new study is to get a baseline on women's involvement in the music business and helped develop the next generation of women in the industry.

On International Women's Day, Biden Signs Gender Equity Measures
"Is marking the occasion as only a president can with more executive orders. His signature will set up a new White House counsel on gender policy. And roll back a controversial Trump administration rule that protected students accused of sexual assault. We're joined now by NPR, White House correspondent Aisha Roscoe and I shall want we start with this order on sexual violence in schools when we need to know. This order basically directs the Department of Education to look at our into conduct a review of all of its policies and regulations to make sure that an educational environment is free from discrimination on the basis of sex and also free from discrimination in the form of sexual harassment, including sexual violence. On discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. So basically, it's a review to make sure that all of his policies are aligned with this order. And as I understand it, it goes back to the former education secretary Betsy the boss. She and the Trump administration believed that people who were accused of sexual violence deserve more rights in an academic setting. And Democrats, of course, opposed that from the beginning. Does this order just revert the legal standard back to what it was during the Obama administration. So this executive order clearly seems aimed at undoing that policy from the Trump administration. But what it basically does is it directs Education Secretary McGill Cardona to suspend or revise any agency actions that are at odds with the new order from the White House. So it basically puts it in The education Secretaries court for him to look at the policies and to decide what to do. But it seems clearly aimed at eventually getting rid of that order from the Trump administration. Okay, more to come on that issue, I'm sure now another bite in order is establishing a White House Gender Policy Council. What will that do? Exactly? So this council will focus on ensuring equity for women and girls on diverticular Lee women and girls of color. This is a revamped version of former President Obama's White House counsel on women and girls. The name was changed to reflect that all genders can face discrimination, but it's basically a way of looking at equity when it comes to women. Well. President Biden, on
