"Because the church in rome they know some of these things already and paul's trying to move them towards allegiance to them to obedience to them So and sometimes you hear this talked about. His gospel. Indicative gospel imperatives. Like paul. kind of tells you who you are. And then he tells you what to do. He does a little bit romans. It's not as clear as it is in like a fijian's or colossians but where the first eleven chapters of romans there's kind of unfolding of the gospel. There's a doxa logical conclusion and then in romans twelve gets into like a strong ethical perspective on on the christian life. So i do think you see all of those dimensions with faith and belief but i think you're note. Jt about the effect show cough selfish. And what makes faith act. "Three sixteen. But i think john three seventeen has even more power or tells even more about who got is term. Minute says indeed. God did not send the son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world of might be saved through him or we can name numerous encounters of jesus and those people and how he met them with such love. And grace you ever know that. The stories in bible with jesus is not him showing up to people's doors and being like i came here to tell you how sinful and how terrible you are and all the things that you've messed up didn't do any of that. He embraced everyone. He ate with people in when people encountered him and understood who he was. They were transformed. They went out and proclaimed his name. They were sent out. And then this vision when serve are singing and chanting how holy the lord is. I noticed that they're not saying how sinful isaiah is when isaiah sees holiness of god that is when he knows he needs to change. That's the power of god not want. Someone told him how bad he was. And i can't emphasize this enough but the coal the cold i was offered cleansed and healed. It comforted you know. I was reminded this past week by a woman in my monday morning. Women's bible study that this past monday may twenty four th anniversary of john. Wesley alder gate experience. If you don't know the story or not a methodist nerd. I'll give you the cliffs note version so john. Wesley was anglican priest. He had been in america trying to basically church plant. He'd kind of accidentally made this new movement which became methodism that basically it was a massive failure massive failure so he went back to london and he on his way and while back their hand counter some arabians and he attended a service with them and the preacher. That night was reading something from martin. Luther a preface to the letter of romans and in that moment at alder skate john. Wesley had his heart strangely warmed..

"I'm trying to walk out my front door. And they're gonna be waiting for me right. It takes work. It does and for me. It was church and for me it was. We moved here. And i went to that. That bible said it wasn't a mouse as a women's bible study. I'd never been to a women's bible study. I even questioned. If i qualified to be at a women's bible study i'm like i'm twenty five isn't okay here But that was where i met you and that's where i started meeting some of the friends. I'm friends with now. Thirteen years later but it was doing that uncomfortable thing going into a room where i didn't know anyone and being willing to be vulnerable and you know you did such a good job. I think one of the weird things about having friends mom brand. Is it a little like dating where you have to be vulnerable. It'd be like hey. Can i have your number. You know you liked me enough that you would go to the park with fan my children. Yes you know and just doing that uncomfortable thing and also just like dating not. Everyone is going to be a right fit. You know you may go hang out with someone and be like you know what they're cool but we don't totally sync up. you know. Our kids did not get along like might kid literally tried to murder is probably not going to be really. Don't wanna have a play date again. Okay but just doing that. Intentional work with like dating. You have to be intentional and you have to be. You have to kind of put yourself out there and do the work of trying to cultivate these new friendships and it remembering that. It takes a long time to grow an old friend. That's kind of like that's a framer. That's our sign for the will. I got that marsha mason. It takes a long time to grow old friend. And i think i think that's hard for as in this segment of life that we're in where we have old friends thankfully..

"You by Ellen Becker Investment Group and News talk 11 30 W E S N. I'm your host Jill economy Oh, director of community outreach. Well, it's finally here 2021 welcome to a new year. Year. Many of us are really looking forward to, you know, we want to leave all the negative things of 2020 behind and move into a new year with renewed hope and anticipation. Now, some of you may have resolutions or a list of goals that you create for the new year. I do something a little different. I'm involved with a few different organizations that focus more on finding one word, not a list of things. But one word that will serve as Your North star. If you will, something that'll guide you and direct your path as you navigate through another year. Now we've done this in my women's Bible study that I've been a part of for over 15 years. I've done this in the bottle city that I lied here at Alan Becker. We did this at an e I g staff meeting a number of years ago. And we also do this at few international, which is ah, group. I belong to you. Few international fellowship of Extraordinary women that meets once a month. And over the years I've heard women share their word for the year. Words like perseverance, Joy. Intentionality. Purpose. Inspiration, strength, grateful, healthy. I mean, the list goes on and on. I've had a number of different words over the years, but about two years ago, I chose to focus on a word that kind of encompasses all the other words that I've had and that word is eternal. Because I want my thoughts, my words and my deeds to have eternal significance. Now some people have a hard time coming up with just one word because there are so many good ones right? Some people may choose to have a new word every month, and that's fine to the idea. Is to have just one word that is easy to remember. That will remind you of what's important and point you in the right direction, so the month of January is national mentoring month. And if we were to pick one word for this month, it would be mentor. Over the years. We've interviewed a number of people that service mentors either personally or professionally, and I think it's so important to share our experiences, our wisdom, our success.

"Then in one fell swoop. She lost it all. I used to see vast. She is the villain. She had to be if esther was the hero. Many commentators painter as a stubborn wife who should have submitted to her husband. But the more i study the more i realize it's not so black and white i wanted vast. You have to gain by standing up to her husband not much. She knew the law. She knew to refuse. His command would put her position in jeopardy even resulting in death. So why would she do it. The only reason i can think of is that she didn't want a roomful of drunken men gawking and ogling her. She may have been a pagan queen but even so she had her dignity. No self respecting woman would put herself in that position. She had a choice to make and it wasn't an easy one. She chose to maintain her self respect. Even if it meant losing everything else lose it. She did not only was. She denied her position as queen and banned from ever having contact again with a king but she was publicly disgraced and used as an example throughout the kingdom. What about you have you ever dreamed of being rich and famous. Have you wished you can marry a prince. You could be a princess in maybe someday even queen. It sounds like a dream come true but the royal life has own problems. If you're in bashed he's position what would you do which you submit because it's the right thing to do or would you have the courage to say no. Have you ever took a stand for what's right and been punished as a result as we kick off a new year. It's a great time to reflect on your priorities. Were they lie. Are you focused on prestige and wealth and privilege or are you focused on doing. "On my list as actually talking to just about this. Yesterday i had talked to erica previously. And she made the comment about the book lobby. The time of cholera and i was laughing to jazz. I told her that For me it's more community in the time of coded of but i laughed at you. Say that 'cause when just originally mentioned this to me my first thought went to philippians one three. Every time i think of you. I give thanks to god whenever i pray. I make my requests for all of you with joy. You have been my partners. And that's very much the you know. I mean yes thankful for face and family. In god's provision in all of this on protection and even the ones that are friends that have gotten sick. They haven't been on death's door. They haven't been on icu. In a later that you know hopefully there. There is eventually light at the end of the tall. There really is so much to be thankful for this year time in particular but for me i think it has really brought to light what we have taken advantage of absolutely for granted in our connections with each other. How much those mean and how much we really rely on those connection to keep saying. Keep a strong and keep us differently. You know whenever i posted on. Cwm you know website about the things that i missed. I've just having a bad day. You know and it's just like man. I have really taken for granted these things that you know a lot of times. You you feel annoyed by down. Just like wow. Those are blessing now the kids popping in just because they want to be a part of the community to you know in sometimes like when we get together and we're talking grew and our kids come in. We feel annoyed because they've interrupted. But at that time. I was just like i just want an interruption right now you know because then at least i'm around you guys or women's bible study. Yeah i really the amount of times. I would work all day and come home and be like i. Just wanna sit on the couch and chill and have dinner. I don't wanna have to think about. Where's my bible..

She's like you gotta chill out. You're like you're like angry. And i was like what i was excited. We're going back to the building. And i listened to it and i was like holy cow. Women's bible study. I was like. Oh no that's that's pretty bad. It's kind of like when you like when we students with their masks on and it's like that tone and i was like i was like man. Okay so like. I thought i communicated well and so i think it goes into it because you can. You can know your sermon. The best that anybody in the world can but a your approach to communicating can be completely off and it just throw somebody off that affects people's view of coming in and hearing your sermon because if they feel attacked or if they feel like what is even talking about how am i trying to track with us it. It gets all lumped into the same sermons in. It's a it's a big podcast about. I was going to say approaching three. Mike thinks about idea. But we all think it's see your point and in communicating. There's a big difference between communicating. Well with your own style. Issue conference the global leadership summit or whatever but an interesting thing in that conferences. There's there's people from the church world speak and then there's people even from the business world that speak they just speak about leadership and the thing is is that they all are really like master communicators and they are all vastly different in style. You'll get somebody up there. There's very charismatic. And the talks. This certain way with these illustrations and they'll get another person up there. That just speaks very monotone with no notes but in a different way it still engaging and communicates well and you get completely different people..

"'cause I you know when I was in school I tried to went mortared that that way a little bit. But. Eventually, but eventually. Had Two thoughts that changed the way that I thought about about this whole thing this whole idea and it was one both related to scripture one was I. think there's a lot being read into genesis three and Adams roll like that whole idea of like he didn't stand up and do what he was supposed to DM like nobody says he God doesn't condemn it for that. Why should I? What are you talking about? And then the the other one is a Fijian's five, where in twenty, two, verse, twenty, two that word submit doesn't actually appear there, which means it's all dependent on verse twenty one which is about mutual submission. Once you know that the whole everything else for me just unraveled like, okay that's probably not. Not Not. I'm not gonNA take it as seriously as had because it doesn't seem to actually biblical. Yeah and even so like when you're looking. And it is going back to that word summit in Verse Twenty One where it's talking about mutual submission but then it said why it's to husband's. Okay absolutely. But then When he's talking about to the husband to the kind of pater Familias of the household, right? He's saying something revolutionary at that. Patriarchal Culture. Well, first of all, he's even. Lives. Right Revolution I and then secondly that he is. Calling the husband to put the wife's. Life above his own. And to love his wife like. At that time in that culture, they were told to rule their wives. And instead, they're told to love their wives in such sacrificial way that they're elevating them at the cost of their own rights. Well. That's huge. That's also Christ. Like which is the whole point lover like Christ loves the that's the whole point and it's it's very different. So when you get into the sort of patriarchal, hey, you got to. Honor me all the stuff there's a myriad of books. It's weird like it doesn't. It doesn't actually. Thank you for saying doesn't line up it doesn't it doesn't line up and so I'm really glad that that's there. So. Can we talk about the I wanNA talk a little more about the discipleship piece because it because. It. Is Weird but it also I think is stunting. discipleship. So I know you have some things about to say about that and what we had ucs stunting women in particular who yeah I mean so The way that women's wins ministries have really been separated. I thought myself like I was telling you the beginning of my marriage, a women's Bible Study Teacher I think women's Bible study is important and good and men's by will study re exclusive in talking about you know some of them are struggles. As men and women we need that space and that's good. However, if we're always. Being, separated into a men's ministry and a women's ministry in an exaggerated way I which I believe. "Local in honest upfront about where you're standing speaking from. However. I don't think we should speak just in those little bubbles. I really learned and I'm still learning how important it is to to read widely to communicate widely. It's so sharpening learn so much from my brothers and sisters different denominations. Yeah. I really have to is, which is why I love that point because it wasn't a group of Very Evangelical Church Evangelical free which I always hated that name because I felt like it was cholesterol free but. It was like why? Anyway I know why they did it but it's GonNa Weird. But the the. So when I went to college a similar thing where I was engaging all kinds of different theologies, but it wasn't really went to seminary when I start engaging. Ignatius of Loyola and. You know things like that that I really branched out and start understand all the streams of of the faith. And what I can take a big fan of Richard foster that streams of living water idea right with you know there's there's take the good things from all the different, all the different streams so. Yeah, I love that. And now everything's great. But take the thanks. Yeah. Absolutely. That's. Hundred percent hundred percent. But you can't you can't do that. So I'm a big advocate for Okay. So you you were doing the coffee shop thing and kind of getting exposed to a bunch of different theological ideas. And really soaking it up sounds like reading a lot Yeah. What I'm sure that shaped you we're did you go from there? Well So the coffee I. In during that time I, I was leading a women's Bible study which I reluctantly I was the one I wanted it to be one of the learners but nobody wanted to teach it and my pastor at the time. Really, encouraged me and. Gave me a systematic theology book to work from and things like that, and we were none of them really small talkers in that group. So we were just really growing a lot of questions. But that's also where. where it started I, think planting a seed. For even the book that my latest book, which is my book But so my pastor gave me the spokane he.

And they were good people and they were kind people and they were well intentioned than they did their best and they loved me but they abused me and neglected me and i honestly didn't even know it because it's what i was raised in I spent my beginning adult life. "Be there proactively and offset that ever happening in the first place. Yeah do you have a story you could share with us all all? I'll give you one that we actually have a video about now which I'm thankful for but I still love telling the story so there was I got A. I got a phone call from the aid society. I have a great relationship with the Children's aid society so I'm I'm thankful for that of thankful that they allow us as a as a Christian ministry to be one of their resources I got a call from the children's aid society saying they had a mom who is in the hospital who had basically died on the table and was revived and she had three kids at home. She had four kids at home but the sixteen year old was taken care of these these younger boys and it was too much for her so they asked if we could take these boys in and and for about two weeks and so I reached out to my whole network. Find a family who can take them and so We're able to place them MOMS in the hospital this point so I'm visiting her and then I'm getting other people to go visit her and at the same time. Isabel is sharing this story with her women's Bible Study and One of the MOMS or other women in her study is a mom who had gone through what this mom was going through. She was in the hospital because she had a A very drastic eating disorder. Which brought her to the brink of death pretty much so this mom that. Isabel knows Had also had an eating disorder but she had come through it. She had gone through rehabilitation and all that so I was able to match the two of them up and sold. The mom from our church was able to walk with a mom hearsay families and not only be a support for her but also help her to make some tangible steps to be able to come out of that eating disorder. Or at least you know. Get you a point where. She didn't need a six month to a year. Long Rehab which it would've been too much for us to place her kids for that long because these children have faced a lot of trauma and a of difficulties so they were a lot for the host home in fact over the course of time we've worked with his mom they've actually been in three different host homes just because they they do have some some really high needs but in the end. Mom is now healthy. She is not fully healed but she is Probably Eighty percent there. And.

"Our state to get see that looks just like you mean yea thirteen rounds. Little muffing is that is that the forty-three the Glock forty three. So it's a forty five caliber eighteen K. U. S. P.. Nice I know she did have another question. Asked the question who we hold it. Wait Joyce Meyer thing or what was the best more. Oh now do you know what else we're not you know what else we're not allowed to have in. This state Uber offended. You're not not allowed to have in the state here by getting get about Beth. More up in a lot of people are in shock about it. My my family so actually or church churches we've gone to. I'm like that probably not She's heretic take but oh. The conversations ended up by go into there are good female singers out there. There are good filters out there. You Know Susan Hack Martha piece or two of them. Ami's Freeman is as good as sermon. So there's people females that they want to learn from their out there at Morris Beth more more she's a darling now she's a darling mission and She's a darling for a long time Beth. More hasn't found. It's kind of same thing it's like. Why why if you're a woman and you WANNA do? Women's Bible study what I do. You have to learn from what what makes the difference you could learn in a woman's Bible study from a woman teacher or a man teacher. I don't see why they're like well. If we're ladies we want to learn from a lady eighty I guess. Sometimes it could be helpful for certain point of view but I don't know why it's so important tonight I'm with you. I think I don't think it's one hundred percent necessary but whatever those things you know with the issue the issue is is that the lot of times what you see with someone like Beth. More the reason they're so popular is they are not actually teaching the by what they're teaching emotionalism and and for a lot of ladies. They prefer the emotion. It's it's more of how it's being said. Then what's being said it's my my wife doesn't like going to Lady Ladies Bible Studies because she's like they're all full of fluff. GimMe a pastor's conference. That's what she prefer. It's really simple. Why because she she wants to get truth? And if you're interested in just fluff dean. You're gonNA like Beth more. Because that's all she is in Beth more hasn't found a Bible verse that she ever found the context to you know back in the old days I don't know I mean. Yeah Yeah I mean she's just like always finding like Oh let's let's grab this verse up l.. GRANDPA meaning over here and just limit together like would just make it up out of thin air now now she just gets revelation hearing. Yeah any. He'll anytime ever heard her talk. I've never thought it was. You know even you. You know that great at all every time. It's always been something where it sounds like something I could hear from any JOE Schmo from rebel all study where they say. What does this mean to you? And it's just Beth more. Here's what this Bible verse means to me. I've never found her. I Dunno intriguing at all time. I'd like ever listened to her to see what your robot and girls who are tuned into motion are very very easily manipulated by the stories she uses and using the emotion with those stories to then tack on a Bible verse and then they go. Oh Oh you're so right. Oh my goodness that emotion is exactly. I felt as a mother like she gets points talking about the point system. She's a woman she uses is Bible verses. That's what I'm supposed to be doing motherhood and Bible. So she's got everything I need and it's so well organized I guess you would say. Hey the springs you step by. Step my sister sorry. Random cat in the back My sister recently promoting her book and I was trying to talk to her about it but she really didn't WanNa hear it no. She's has a book about John and it's really really good so I haven't read it of course but maybe I should see this like what Jeff says. Just as the only thing I know about Beth Moore was when she was told to.
