"Know and I'm thinking of that out of shape but that's. We've been exercising a muscle that you haven't worked for awhile conditioned up to this point to prepare for exactly this time to be ready for playoff pandemonium especially on the WNBA state after watching this basketball but on the emotional level. It feels so much more daunting. This is going to be a historic championship I mean you're talking about a year in sports. We're going to be talked about for years and for the storm or the aces to be able to put their name on that echelon in say. Of this crazy horrific pandemic era. Where the face of the of the little beacon of hope that sports tried to give. The world during was just a crappy year. and. It's really interesting and there's a lot of that but I mean fantastic we'll be seeing. Obviously some more some more games on a on a good public stage I'm not thrilled the Times of most of the Games especially the deciding game being at three PM Eastern. Thanks a lot for that. I forgot. This was the masters. Not a basketball game but okay. Yeah. Good stuff though we'll see. Love it came. Well, there's our predictions everybody. Let us know how correct or incorrect we are on. On twitter again, find us at WNBA nation pod. We we also got a DM earlier this week from Connecticut Fan who gave us a few takes on the whole candace Parker winning defensive player of the year, not getting as much love on on twitter as we. As we kind of anticipated. She kinda just. Seemed like everybody was was against it. And we want to give a shout out to. To individual who deemed us? We appreciate that I'm not gonNA share your name on Mike in case you don't want to but we appreciate that like totally made our whole day and. We're excited and we've actually got a couple of stickers headed your way. For for reaching out and being a listener, we appreciate that. That's not just about doing things for the follow. Or check out these ray bans, right? Until we. Got, so many. Speaking of candace Parker. Let's let's just wrap things up with just a little bit. Yeah. The was okay. You're right. You're. GotTa. And speaking of candace Parker sorry. Cut that. A lot of ravens. She Light Ravens are great. especially fake ones. candace Parker is currently Hashtag unbothered according to her instagram story. However. I would say that the twitter universe is somewhat bothered or. What's ant- Anti Anti. Bother I. Don't know the it's not unbothered but you're anti the people who are bothers bothers diamond. Different. Back. So the perfect. So the all WNBA. Defensive teams were announced today. And there's one extreme glaring omission from the first and second teams and that just so happens to be the current defensive player of the year candace Parker. Now, it should be noted for all of you who are like what that must have just been oversight or maybe she wasn't eligible for this award she was eligible she was totally available to be selected on the all WNBA defensive teams. The difference being. The media voted for candace Parker as defensive player of the year. That's where the award came from was media votes. The coaches were asked who the all defensive. Team should be for the first and second teams. Now, you were not allowed to vote for anyone from your own team, but the each coach was asked to fill out an entire deal of first and second team votes and candace Parker was left off enough ballots that she did not only miss out on the first team, but the entire team as well and. Why Steve just why. Okay. Okay. Okay. I'M GONNA try to be civil. Here. We talked about. The confusion of this polarity when it comes to candace Parker in her last episode. That there's this strange mean girls. You can't sit with US mentality when it comes to Kansas I still don't know. Quite. What it is, we're talking about a player that was snubbed from the twenty sixteen Olympic team who is randomly voted by players is most overrated who seemingly gets called out by actual wnba fans who tend to be pretty collectively supportive of players across the league. And seems ticket crap got crap for the fact that she for a long time was analyst on on an MBA program because she was one of the first. Sport it to hit that level. You see this consistent pattern. For a long time I thought maybe it's just something I'm seeing and I don't know if it's really the case I'm willing to say right now that's that is the case that there's something. In the water here that's causing this mentality where candace Parker I messaged you earlier today. and. said. This decision feels petty. I can't say for sure maybe like obviously because I'm not in that situation and who knows but you look at it in front of you and you go it just kind of feels you were talking about a group of coaches who just like you said who? Watches Games Watch these tapes they weren't allowed. To vote for their own players. So, it's not like they fill them up with their own squad. It's not like coach Kloppenburg put eight plate which could have. Justification for storm players know opens it up and what you're left that is who can fill those rosters. Okay. So we're talking about a player who? was first in the League in rebounds, I get defensive rebounds which accounted for eighty percent believe eighty, two percent. Specifically over total ribbons on the defensive end tied for ninth and steals tied for fifth in blocks she was second overall in defensive rebound percentage she was she was in the top ten in block percentage. She was fourth in defensive rating and third overall defensive wing shares behind Brianna Stewart Asia Wilson who didn't make the first team themselves. You can look at top of that. We have a lot of people saying, well, there's more to it than stats. You're also talking about a player, who's the overall anchor and one of the minutes leaders of the third top defensive team in the entire league, and she didn't just not make the first team didn't just make the second team but got upended by two players who played for. A team who had the third worst defensive rating of the entire season. So people who want to say these are coaches an elliptical and they've put in the time to work and they've seen all these players. You can't just call them out. You can't. You can't fault them. You can't say that they're wrong about this. I am saying right now WNBA coaches from one to twelve you're wrong. Like you're you're incorrect here. And I saw quotes from. Nikki Collins saying. There's more to it than than blocks specific piece of no no-shows necessarily calling it can park full on some of those quotes for piece together but. The the stat metric, the I test metric I. I don't fully understand it because. It goes beyond that and I'm GonNa cut my rant after this I know it could go a little bit longer. There was frustration with the MVP vote. Remember this. Issue Wilson I. Don't think is undeserving manage definitely deserving. The MVP vote it was a little frustrating. To see a Briere, Stewart. WHO Nearly, averaged a double-double herself who coming off of a completely debilitating injury was clearly the best player on one of the most dominant rosters receive one vote. In the MVP race. And there was frustration there and there was a little bit of annoyance there. And and there were people saying this doesn't make sense a lot of people saying like the. kind of claiming she should have been being Asia shouldn't have in the age thing was only kind of like a PR thing and they just didn't want to give it to bree and all of that. Do you want to know what the coaches did? They made sure Asia Wilson still made the all WNBA team..
Interview with Calvin Baker
"Talk A lot about Colin. Kaepernick who of course has become far more than an athlete and more than any athlete of his generation has become super politicizing talk about how sports is a narrative of nationhood and definitely think that you could write eight the story of modern America on his last Assi What What do you? What do you? What are you? What are you thinking about? Colin Kaepernick. I think he's great. I think the truth almost didn't come to light. They. They suppress it for so long and so long and so long I think that it is. Emblematic of what's going on the country as a whole where you have this man and expressing is. Liberal belief. and. Becomes a lightly We tell ourselves we're in the twenty th century were everything is so diverse, and then you see what a lightning rod that becomes for. White. Anger. Someone expressing pride who is but also like. You can't kill black. That's radical athlete baboots how that's That's where we really are that. You can't say. Retaliates tally is wrong. Those are the hard enforces of racism, which I which I can chew colonialism in larger forces and patterns. How advanced how might and can the society be if you if it's if it's controversial as it was in that moment? Thankfully it's I think. As this moves forward. He's becoming raise established himself as one of a line of. Athletic spokespersons yet if you go back on tradition begins. Muhammad Ali's or the world and the Jim Brown's the world who's as like Oh as black versus one of the few people who is allowed any sort of visible Jackie Robinson in different. S. And that's end. And then he became corporate. Right. But the happiest people's right night. I talked about Jim Brown on the NFL who made the decision to leave NFL. After A manhood battle with art modell whose the owner Cleveland browns and direct line and one of the things on everything. We think we're saying there's historical precedent for it and the function and the horses ourselves. Insane. And so right. You look at that the and you look at what's happening feeling I'm not the first person. Say This I long chop wanted to contextualized story. And also like yeah. Camp is doing civil rights work. In the resistance that he faces shows you how much of this country is still against the most basic expression of civil rights what do you? What do you make of? The NFL along with the NBA? WNBA. Others. The institutions of sport have seemed to have come around to say you know we're going to embrace black lives matter. We're going to plastered all over the field or the court wear whatever you want. Neil. However, you want like you know we're fully supportive of the movement and yet gaps still doesn't have a job. So he still sacrificed his dream. Surely, it was his childhood dream that he achieved And then had that taken away chose to go after something bigger, and now that the the sports world, the NFL in particular has come around to his side of things. He is still left out which for so many of us for you to. ADDS a hypocritical sheen to all of it. I mean, I don't know I can't fully embrace what the NFL is doing until he is welcome back into the fold in a serious way. I mean, one of the. made the final cut I. Don't remember off the top of my head but wasn't Michael Vick can chilidog and still have A. Job in Colin Kaepernick, can't say. Shoot people. And not have a job. That's what I think. First of all the NFL. Lost me just I mean. There are a lot like their lot of sports. I. Love. I. Love Sports is you know and but there's always another sport and league baseball loss during steroids. Haven't been back. Haven't really looked back. I might watch catch on the corner of my eye, the barbershop every once in a while. The NFL. Because they are so far on what you say what you think the man like Avenue you know Muhammad, Ali's spent. Eighteen months in jail for Kosovo Vietnam War. I don't remember how much. Much of the baby actually did. Athletic careers. sports and they end when you're still a young individual with a lot of life ahead and as you read it as Jim Brown realize can't stop. By many miles at. And right the dream of NFL would it looks like it might be over I hope that it's eventually someone will give him a shot maybe but. And will air. We'll find the next stream. Nets like life purpose. That's always the challenge of being an athlete. It happened to him in a prematurely it's not fair but he's shown himself to be larger than that lead

"Right like if they can catch that kick to the jar, it happens if they miss, it's a three game. Long arm bar is potentially how it looks. And that's how it goes right now I think Seattle's Well Oiled there will obviously will coach a you've got to think that coach is going to get an actual job eventually. And I think right now they're the complete package and maybe we're jinxing ourselves and we're contributing to Vegas writing every single quote on on their whiteboard to motivate, and we'd be honored to be on that whiteboard. Right that'd be honored to be on their bill can board. Yeah. Right now I, see I see storm into sweep. K. I, you know what? I think a lot of people in the past when you call a sweep in a finals are going to say, Ooh, that's a spicy take i. don't think it's that spicy I think it's a well-founded appear well-founded take. especially. Considering what we've seen of each of these teams as of late. Here's the thing I. I'm going to agree with you on the winner I. Don't think it'll be a sweep. I really do think that Las Vegas is going to be able to put it together. For at least one game if not too and I'm going to lean toward. Toward this, actually going the distance in a five game series I'm still gonNA pick Seattle as my eventual champion but I think this is going to go a three two series I think Vegas can shake off this. This performance that had against Connecticut, they can kind of reset. And come into come into this this new. This game today was kind of a practice game without Derek Hamby and they're able to kind of see how things went there if I really do think that they have an upper hand coming into game one and because of that, I'm going to say they they take game one and if they do I, really think that. There's some momentum that comes into play in this series. Now, I do think Seattle is a good enough team to overcome that and I think that they eventually will be the champions but I'm going to say that is going to be a little closer with a three two series. Also kind of just want that to happen because as intense as this whole season has been. Watching three games a night for it feels like forever y'all. I'm exhausted. But I I'm exhausted but don't want it to end if that makes sense this month and especially this next couple of weeks. Congratulations to the Tampa Bay lightning you WanNa Stanley Cup. Good for you. And you timed it right because we're looking at crowning a WNBA champion in NBA champion and world series champion in a matter of weeks, which is pretty. Two weeks. I'm Elliott born and raised in I've. Tomorrow the day after we recording this I have to wake up to a day where I have a game one in the playoffs for the dodgers a game, one of the finals for the Lakers and then only two days to prepare for the WNBA. Finals. I'm regularly checking my blood pressure as it is. And that's coming off of the fact that we went from five months zero sports to just here six hours of basketball. Every single day. It was like. You know it's like when you haven't worked out for a long time and then they're like, Hey, do a triathlon. That's what this. That's what it's felt like I'm tired but I don't I I love this league and I don't want the basketball to end I don't want to see I. Don't WanNa go go into an off season yet I was about to come the we've all potentially been in that scenario like you said where pretty much nothing and then one day. Someone, you're interested in or you know someone you might be dating says, Hey, my family's running in a ten K. on Saturday if you wanna come with and you can't say no. Obviously. And So you just. You know maybe fight through it but you know like I'm going to be feeling this for the next seven weeks, I just this embarrassing Kyle. I just went fly fishing for the first time in my life with you over the weekend and my forearm is still throbbing. Don't.

"The fact of the matter is there was certainly a drop scenario where doubts scouting Smith every player on that court is confidently saying. If it gets to this point we get it to petty and petty. It makes it happen. That's what amazes me about. This is the level of trust ahead in the player who's barely played a full month with that roster if not full month with that roster. Pretty well amazes me I it. It taught me a lot about Phoenix in where I potentially see them in the playoffs scenario because it was a pretty cool thing. The one note that I wanna make that there's a pattern here with did this become the year of the Cross court pass to buzzer beater honest I feel like I feel like that's just a trope of this year that I had seen heavily before yeah. You could make an entire highlight reel of just that play and it should be. Noted heck of a pass Uber yet because if that past isn't land right in her hands, she doesn't get the pump fake off that shot gets blocked. The game is over let's talk about you more layers of this that I think are interesting. One is, as you mentioned, Dana drowsy gave up that ball to scattered digging Smith who then gave it to petty who made the shot to Rasi who's been in this situation dozens of times in her career. She's thirteen in one in winter go home games. She does not lose these Games again in single elimination games was six no locking in this one. This was fifty percent shooting including four of eight from deep if she hangs onto the ball for a couple of seconds and then tries the shot and puts. PUTS. The future of of this season on her own shoulders nobody on that team is going to hold it against her. If she decides I'm Dt do or die I will take the final shot. No one's GonNa hold it against her same digging Smith I. Think no one's No one's going to question if Smith tries to drive the hoop, she was seventeen eighteen in fact. drowsy ending and Smith, had almost identical lions and twenty three and twenty four points. Six assists versus five assists and it. You know it was they shared the ball. So incredibly well, they were very unselfish For both of them who were having good shooting nights to pass the ball up to petty who'd only taken six shots to that point of the game man as you said, the trust chemistry, the kind of the combination of what I would call like a summer camp vibe of this bubble experience that we're all watching That's that's great. That's a great moment we're going to look back at that are. Always. I think we were waiting for. A moment we've seen so many times from D. T.. And others we were waiting for drop pass in. Dana fines. Open Court. Kicks, the ball back to her and she. She drops in a shop for the clock goes out. Waiting for that moment to happen and it almost looked like at no point. Was the consideration to the bulletin. The probably was just play broke down differently, but it had that look of like. Gets Guide to the to the whole let's see what happens. Here's where the open spots are. If things break down and she like you said made a pinpoint perfect pass. which to me it also I gotta give so much credit. Sandy abroad, Dole for drawing play. Kind of understanding how the game had went because we're only a few minutes removed from. Diving making very similar play and may shines Allen. Drying what at the time felt like a momentum changing charge. that. You know in a very similar play where she drove in. And I feel like you have that like something sandy has in the back of her mind she's drawing that up. That was such a huge night. Obviously, there's so much more to talk about as far as the rest of the basketball happened because it's kind of a shame this mystic steam, we're not gonNA get a chance to see them again because. Like. I I wish what Leilani Mitchell did could be rewarded with some more basketball. because. We've we obviously are we have a very high level soft spot for Leyland. Mitchell, we've seen her play. At in person I play in person in Utah she went to the University of Utah I like and so to watch her have this opportunity. Against Team who who moved over the mistakes and that was so going to be the story was, can you believe the mystics directly lenny? Mitchell. Look what she's doing to him It just became such a fun. When I I emphasized all the things they were missing at the beginning of this segment but they they put an effort that to me looks like a a winning effort. I mean they shot fifty percent from three shot well from everywhere on the floor they didn't get to the foul line quote as much and and I think that did really hurt him but they brought an eleven point lead over Phoenix into the fourth quarter. And I just I M Eastern. Great. She's another favourite of this show we talked about her a lot they there was nothing that they did. That I think was incriminating like, oh, they didn't deserve to be here in the playoffs they slipped into the eighth seed the you know the Phoenix was going to beat them all along I thought Phoenix is GonNa win this game by double digits and they the mystics really bawled out out and ultimately it comes down to elastic shot that the star is kind of had to aligned in order for for things like that to go in and I do think it matters that that the two biggest players on on Phoenix's roster getting to the line more regularly and between drowsy and digging Smith missed one out of thirteen free throws. And the mystics only shot thirteen free throws. So they didn't quite get the aggressiveness in the pain, but maybe they needed but. Man to outscored twenty six to fourteen in the fourth and lose by one. That that is a tough deal while. It really is especially given the momentum that they were carrying I actually. Honestly see. The match up they had impending being. not necessarily in their favor but.

"This thing we've seen teams across sports do that in just about every level. From, high school all the way up through the professional ranks in just about every sport, you see the underdog that's playing loose and catches the the. Favourite by surprise and ends up. Taking a series are ends up winning a game that that nobody anticipated them winning a Las Vegas play relaxed, and just go out there and play your game and. I really do think that Las Vegas has the potential to make this work. But I mean. Seattle right. There is one you could call it matchup. I think just a parallel to players. That's me set the barometer here. One thing helps Vegas is they have had some good performances out of certain individuals that have pushed them along over this last series Carolyn swords had a great first-half tonight. Data Robinson's played extremely and made the most of her minutes over the series. We've seen a lot of that step. Seattle in Vegas will have a player that I think when they're playing well offensively they're are setting the Barometer for how well oiled team is in Seattle. I have to Seattle in mind and I think we're on the same Seattle has one hundred percent seen that come to fruition with Jewell Loyd she's played as well as just about anyone on that roster. There's arguments that if she plays at the level, she played this last series. You could see the discussion for finals. MVP and that's going to go to stu if they were I think for sure but I think I think it will go to. The IF I think if if this last series was the finals for Seattle, how do you not give it to you? Yeah. She's blaming the best player she shot fifty three percent from deep. She just looked as she shots nearly sixty percent from the field. Just. Overall played phenomenal basketball. Vegas has that person in them. And it just comes down to this. If the aces have any dying chance at taking this series in this title Kayla McBride CanNot Call herself mic buckets. I guess you'd call herself, but you can't take on the big buckets moniker and shoot fourteen percent from three over the series. I Kayla McBride needs to find a way to overcome this funk and be the offensive threat. We've seen her be for so long Daniel. Robinson. Didn't hit a career three until I believe last season and she's out shooting you that should be a concern. There's a lot of things that contribute to that but find a way past it and make it happen I. Think you talked about game one being a powder powder opportunity for the aces I want A. Bucket seats seven to ten shot attempts in the first quarter alone. That, that's what I love that I won't shots on goal and probably three to five those from deep, and if if you clink a handful them keep at it, there's a, there's a quote. That Kobe Bryant attributed or. Quota piece of advice that that he gives Jewell Loyd that was highlighted over the series and I think jewelries learned a lot from it and it's something that I thought about when I thought about how performance has been. Obviously, Kobe jewell Loyd had a great relationship. and One night I think it was while she was still at Notre Dame I'm trying to remember the date behind it. He texted she texted him and a believe is like three in the morning is the story and asked, Hey, what do you get out of shooting funk if you're in the shooting funk, what you do to get out of it and Kobe said, there is no shooting funk, there's only the next shot. And I. When I think of that, kill McBride came comes right to mind when I think of that because when you in this type of situation and it feels like nothing is catching nylon, you get hesitant to take that shot you get. Put yourself in that position, and that's exactly what she needs to think just get to the next shot. It's GonNa Start Falling because I'm buckets and that's what I do and we've seen it so many times and if she can pick it up, I, think she sets a pulse. That lifts a lot of those ships and it takes a little bit of burden off visuals. A little bit of burden enough Angel Khatri and allows you to play more balanced style basketball. So I'm excited to see how they breathe some life into that in that first quarter in into that first game, and it might turn into an interesting season but to quote a co host of mine. Seattle Yeah credit. Deserve it. I I love the team I just. Every single person right now on any WNBA podcast is giving Vegas all the Baltimore Board materials they need. But it doesn't come with that justification as you look at things. Absolutely, and here's the thing like me even personally. We as a show obviously have a connection with Seattle. They were part of our initial Wnba road trip that really got us into this league and was a very significant part of why this podcast even exists is because of Seattle and in particular of video from Stuey to three of US hosts as far as as far as that goes. So we have that also. We love underdogs we love seeing underdog stories, las. Vegas happens to also be the closest team to us. As far as distance goes, we've been down to LAS. Vegas we've been there together. We've got an affinity for both these teams and. You know it's not I hope that this isn't coming across like Oh like we're Seattle homers. I. Think that anybody WHO's watched this season knows that Las Vegas a great team and has potential to be a great team but I think you are realistic in your evaluation of Las. Vegas as you have to recognize that they have not performed up to snuff this playoffs, which is scary when you're facing a team like Seattle where yes we understand Seattle was the two seed. But I really do think that Seattle overall played better basketball throughout the season and obviously has played better throughout the playoffs not having lost a game yet. So I think that all of our takes are somewhat warranted and that sense. Excited for this series Steve. I. Really can't wait. Let's go ahead. Let's get an official prediction. From from each of us on. Let's let's Not Scores or anything, but just give me a finals winner and how many games it'll take what the the record is. As far as you know three three, oh three, one, three two and who your winners I don't think I've done this before we could go back and listen to pass predictions of past playoffs. But I don't think. He's been hesitant to do it, but I just don't see any way past it right now storm three. ooh. That's just how it feels like you said, if friends to punch Seattle in the mountain game one, this gets interesting if they miss on that blow. It's hard to say. You, you can really potentially recover from that. It's this has a home rows -I feel to it right..

Sports Overload (MM #3465)
"The Maison with Kevin Nation could America be suffering from Sports overload right now? Well, if the early NFL ratings or anything, it could be Thursday when the NFL debuted it was the first day I think in history where the NBA Major League Baseball NHL NFL WNBA and I think tennis and golf were all playing. I think NASCAR ran a truck race Thursday, but people aren't watching the first few games of the NFL Thursday night football game. The first game of the season was down 16% from last year Sunday nights first NFL game was down 28% and it had teams like Los Angeles and Dallas to Big teams and numbers on Sunday games from both Fox and CBS were up and down wasn't really about football. Was it really about sports overload or was it something else? Nobody knows for sure, but I know people were watching the NFL ratings are tad bit concerned right now because everybody was waiting for the NFL to get back and well, it doesn't look like people are watching something bigger is afoot I think we'll figure out soon won't wage.

Steve, we finally reached the end of this epoch five game series between the Connecticut Sun and the Las Vegas Aces and what a way for this series to end it feels like ever since the series began. We haven't seen a truly close game we've had. We've had a couple. That have gone somewhat down to the wire a little bit here and there but nothing like we saw tonight. Of, the wins that we saw nine points or plus a as far as the point differential between these teams but tonight, it really did go down to the wire. Connecticut led for much of the game but in the second half las, Vegas really started to pull away used a couple of big runs to race I believe at one point a sixteen point it. And eventually take a late lead and then went back and forth before finally securing. The W down the stretch. Now, just curious as far as quality basketball what was your take on on this game? This was. One of the more. Gripping Sloppy Games I've ever watched. That's a great way to. Think you can deny. That this game was kind of a hot mess for. especially in the second half. I. A lot of what I'm going to say tonight's GonNa feel discrediting Vegas, and that's what I meant to do. But. Tonight, in a way almost felt like there were a lot of cases where you saw the aces step up especially Asia dropping twenty three and eleven but. There were a lot of cases where just felt like. There was just a glitch in the sense system I. almost like all of a sudden they're windows decide update. And they all of a sudden went flat in edge. Kinda shot themselves in the foot. It's really hard to deciding game when you shoot sixteen percent from three. I don't know if. That's not I was encouraged. I was amazed at how poorly both teams shot this game. Like it was it seemed like. Yeah like I can't remember it might have been ellen because he's just got such a great twitter game but I feel like it was him that pro the tweet that said does do these teams realized that the highest score wins the? The We talk about Connecticut's Green Eighteen points in the same hand. Not Quite hitting his Vegas beat them twenty seven to eighteen, which is not very impressive. Honestly. Vegas Twenty seven points in the second half is nut great. It felt competitive points but it was very sloppy. The best comparison that I can make and I think this is a justified case to make the male comparison. This reminded me of the first half of the NCW final Yukon versus Butler when I need this score going to twenty two sixteen. And it was horrified. And it sort of picked up in the second half but not by a ton. And I thought there was a lot to look forward to in the first half Connecticut went on a quick run. They fought their way back looked like there's GonNa be leading moments him, and then all of a sudden it was just kind of like A little right. All right, and I don't know if you had the moment that I did where you were like it's at one point game with three minutes left that happen. Just excuse me like seriously I was watching it but I feel like I. Like did I fall asleep and then it just that it was. It was a bit sloppy and unfortunately I don't know that that's a case where you can say like, well, it was a defensive battle I don't believe that was the case. There were periods of some solid defense, but to be honest, there was a lot of times where the offense is. Actually seemed effective and just couldn't put things away. I thought especially. In Particular Connecticut, we're getting a few pretty good looks at the hoop in the second half and just clinking everything I mean someone who has played very well, this this postseason Jasmine Thomas. Going Four for fifteen from the field and over seven from three. That's just an. Off Night and I don't mean to single her out as the reason that they lost but I think that she was kind of just the. She is the microcosm of what you saw across the board for Connecticut nobody really shot well at all outside of list Thomas who makes her living inside the paint and so. They're just across the board. It was it was really really rough basketball from both teams which I mean if you're Seattle, you have to be licking your chops regardless of which of these teams going to come out of this. Yeah. That's that's actually the best as you can think of is. This was A. This was a case where like Susan Stewart, can we make game one tomorrow? Let's do tomorrow because I think it's do. We feel like I think they looked at not only just based on score the missing shots, but.

"I still that way I still think I think at Lisa, Clark's up there and I would probably put Britney Sykes. iossibly as as maybe my number two spot. But. Then after that like there's just a slew of players, right? Like candace Parker had phenomenal season I could see someone like illicit Thomas getting getting some some looks a. You know I really do think that there was a lot of great defensive basketball being played in. There was no clear cut defensive player of the year in my opinion. But I do think the Alicia clerk and I would I in my personal opinion Britney sites probably be my one and then to There do we wanna, talk awards or do we want to talk? I don't know what what are you thinking tonight man we want to discuss I definitely I should listeners WanNa get into playoff matchups. We'll definitely hit that I. think if we really quickly wanted to go through awards we we've already talked about how defensive player of the year most improved those are kind of up in the air. We have some favorites I think the WNBA rookie of the year to me is very clear and I was wondering if you felt the same because we've come into grade I, think in my opinion, it's the most obvious award, the cell okay. Like hundred percent and so yet who Who who do you have for rookie of the year I think despite a Lotta Fun performances I think it has to be dangerous. Is that yeah I agree. I think that Kennedy. Carter deserves mention here. And maybe even to a lower extent one or two others that that you could also throw in the mix but. Nobody touched crystal dangerfield's in her consistency from start to finish on the season and I'm really excited in fact, I. I would be shocked if she doesn't win rookie of the year and I'm excited because she's also the lowest taken like she. She'll win rookie of the year as the latest taken of any draft pick. Think I think prior to this number seven maybe eight had won a rookie of the year but she second round I think she was what she fourteen or sixteen or I can't I off up head I don't know why I'm having a hard time remember F-. Yet. But I think that I think dangerfield one, hundred percent deserves it that being said, I'm also really excited of from what we saw from a Kennedy Carter, I do think that sought to savelly had maybe a slightly underwhelming first season, but I think that she's still in problem probably my top two or three players that I'm taking far as future potential in this league. and then obviously he's Sabrina UNESCO going down just in the first couple of games of the season. KINDA throws a whole wrench into into everything in she's a generational talent as well so. It was. Like I thought there was about a one percent chance that someone not named Sabrina to or Kennedy was GonNa take this rookie of the year award. And and yet here we are with that one percent chance in happened to be a second rounder it wasn't any wasn't somebody like Ruth Roussy Hiebert that we mentioned you know maybe finding a good fit in Chicago or Even tie. Harris Right. But yet dangerfield. Just. Couldn't on put? Honestly where when was she was she seems extinct over. Thinking Sixteen and the just for context that's after a the the The New York Liberty had three picks in like four or five. Oh Yeah. Like in a row if it took like three of the previous four. So that was after the big run of Kirk Liberty picks obviously Sabrina number one overall but then they had a cluster at the end of the first and beginning of the second. It's also after The a lot of the Dallas Picks Dallas had three picks in the first round man and it also comes after Minnesota's first pick. Yes picked number six overall they took Makiya. Herbert Harrigan. Kiki Yeah for sure like which isn't that great is is it's awesome and just shows. I. Think it speaks really well of crystal in and her ethic and being able to come into the league in and just make a name for herself. Let's that was more than we should probably spent on that one but defensively the already mentioned Lisa Clark. Do like Britney sites and I mentioned Elissa and. candace parker any other names that that you would throw out and then I want to hear what your official? Call would be for the defensive player of the year I think those are the names I don't think we're leaving anybody out of the discussion. I've leaned toward. unleashed Clark however, it's it's Kinda hard It's Kinda hard to leave candace parker out of the discussion when she is my number three or four MVP candidate right now and largely because of what she doesn't defensive end and she does plenty on the offense event. So right I almost feel like because she's not GonNa win MVP maybe maybe she should get a little boost the defensive player of the year. Conversation. And then I certainly think I certainly think Sykes deserves to be there I don't. I don't know where I would rank the three right now I think I would put Harker I in Clark Second Sykes. Third. Okay I don't hate that I don't yeah I don't hate that I. DO Think Defensive Player of the year is I think is oftentimes a really difficult one to. To. Make.

"Is nicky. Colin? Ice. Fishes Asia. Welcome to the WNBA. WHAT'S UP WNBA mission? You thought that you got enough of US yesterday but we're back again today and not only that I'm back with more good friend Logan Jones how's it going Logan? It's going so good. We had plans tonight to do a a not just a duo record. A four person hosting tonight is what we were thinking as of yesterday. However we did I'm glad we give the gave the caveat in case things change. Because Steve End Jason Unfortunately, Kinda had to the last minute bow out But that's fine. That's fine it was they both have very good reasons to do so so. You will be hearing from both of them soon I promise but Logan. Again Buddy we just did this last night. Let's chat sand more. Like No. Okay. We put the MVP thing duress. Not GonNa, we're not going to touch again I will say there was quite a bit of. End of season award content today. If if you're you're on twitter, if you check wind sider like you, there's there's no. tweeted onto my timeline from people who I had never read a before like people that I didn't know recovering covering league have like their own kind of private blogs and a I'm so. In People's or takes actually read as many of them as I could and I profoundly disagreed with the majority of them. So so like we talk and we think we're on the same page on this show, but we have we have discrepancies here and there but a lot of people who watch the league and really pay attention and put it into writing. They've got thoughts and arguments for a lot of other players not not necessarily mvp I think everyone agrees on the top two MVP candidates but I saw. Pretty convincing arguments that maybe my hinds Allen take yesterday was pre premature. In A, it didn't want a super co you on that. But I also. was like, well, there's a couple others. I remember us you said, your. Defensive. Player of the year. I, kind of alluded to this I, think defensive player of the year I was leaning towards Alicia. Clark. Ransom. Things today that. May. Change my mind. So I think it's a great time to be covering league. It's nice to see so much excitement about it The athletic is is writing a lot about it and that's kind of been. The hub as things change with sports illustrated another big sports media franchise like it's it's good to see kind of the big voice stepping in and doing a lot of. Analysis. It's out there. If you want to obviously this podcast, we're going to cover a lot of it today for you but I you know. We talked a lot yesterday kind of pre record which we always reference By the way if you're a patriot listener allowed times, we release some extended extended cuts economists into these things, but we talked a little bit about how. Oh I just lost my train of thought entirely cut that. Do Rick Wall. That's how tired you're good. You know just about we talked yesterday a alluded to some of awards end an MVP and whatnot but yeah. We talked about how when we used to cover college sports. Some sports would give us like all the information we needed every quarter and be like here's the stats and other times you cover like a high school game or sports that didn't have like a PR person and you just have to keep track yourself and I feel like when we started this podcast, the WNBA was a little bit like High School Basketball Game where you just Kinda had to pay dispute strap a little bit more yet. There wasn't a lot of. Like advanced analytics out there wasn't a lot of analysis from people really knew the game out there which is why we started the show in the first place But now I feel like it's grown I think there's a notable difference now and it's still got a long way to go. We were talking about the WNBA standings last night even though the WNBA own website had not yeah. They didn't update until like this morning. Yeah. I checked this morning and it was finally there and I was like oh good. Figured out. Store to do. but no I'm I'm glad that you made a mention of some of those that have been doing that you know a win cited as a phenomenal job in. There's a bunch of others were huge fans of Neela the check her out W hoops blogger on twitter. She's got great content that she puts out on a regular basis and there's so many others you know Let China Robinson and the around the impact guests is a phenomenal resource well. As far as you know, player stories and whatnot and we've always been big proponents ever since we started this show is that we're not in competition with any of these other podcasts or any of these other you know. Kind of self self made a media covering the league because any coverage of the league and our opinion grows the league and that's what we're all about A. WE think that this this league is the greatest in the world and we want more people to know about it, and so we celebrate you know and get to see. We've had our own listeners, even reach out and talk with us, and then start their own podcast covering the WNBA, and we're huge fans of that and So yet like huge shoutouts, there's been so much good coverage and I'm glad that. Led that we were able to see him. I was scrolling through twitter bunch today seeing a lot of different takes on a lot of different awards I think that for me. You know we were talking about the defensive player last year and Earth for this year and I mentioned that I think it would be a garter.
Sports Strike Against Racism
"This summer athletes have taken the lead by using their platforms to stand up against police brutality. The WNBA, has consistently protested throughout the year with numerous players even sitting the season out and on August twenty, six, twenty, twenty, four years after Colin Kaepernick began his anthem protests something historic happened athletes across the board streit and refuse to play today we're discussing reactions to this incredible moment in sports. This is the not. On August Twenty Third Jacob Blake was shot seven times in the back by police in Kenosha Wisconsin where we're calling this episode on. August twenty seven twenty twenty the day after the Milwaukee Bucks and players from the NBA WNBA NFL. Major League Baseball Major League soccer and tennis champion Naomi Osaka all refused to play or practice in an unprecedented strike in response to the shooting of Jacob Blake the NBA postponed the playoffs for two days. The first time that games have been postponed in this manner since Bill Russell led a strike in one, thousand, nine, hundred, sixty, one after a day of deliberation players in the. NBA. Playoff Games pending further action. You're excited I. Know You're excited for sports to return obviously, this season has been one of a kind and unprecedented in. So many ways I want to know how do you feel now the players are using their platform in this way to be honest I feel this very strange sense of excitement. I need some really tragic kind of set of circumstances but I have been feeling conflicted after NBA Games kind. Came back I had been motivated by occurrences like kyrie irving standing in solidarity with Wnba players saying like Oh actually, I'll pay your salary. If you don't feel like you can play whether it's you know a reaction to corona virus or your desire to protest how support seeing. Lebron Kinda start almost every post game interview with a demand to arrest the cops that killed Brianna. Taylor. That made me really happy Siamese. Floor of the same energy that we have tours. Justice for Briana told, even seeing black lives matter on jerseys and in the court kind of made me feel a little better. I realized yesterday that this was the inspiration really been waiting for but now I'm wondering what comes next of course, how were you reacting to everything? You know I'm not like the world's biggest sports fan I do. I am a fan of black women and so seeing the WNBA protests. Throughout this year, but especially, the summer that felt released significant. Still I've always hesitant to look to athletes during these like highly political moments just because it's not the job that they set out to do. But you know as I started to see people sharing statements aerial Atkins from the Washington mystics we're going to say, well, we need to say and people need to hear that. They don't support us I'm fine with that. At the end of the day I'm GonNa make them good anywhere that I have to it basketball. It's not. Just what it is Chris Weber's telecast if not now when Not doing a pandemic. and. Countless lives being lost if not now when that is me in tears so lucid in that moment and so real and also just seeing how so many other sports leagues join them in protests were. Teased. Happen I mean it just shows. The hate people's heart. The thing is though is that as we were starting to develop this episode today so much has changed already in that the players in the NBA have agreed to return to playing the playoff season. Later, this week I don't think that all the progress is gone but I'm wondering what what happens. Now you know thought that same whiplash like I said, I felt like this was finally the type of inspiration leadership that I've been hoping to see from such a wide body players. Leaks, cross-border. It was truly abused beautiful, and I think now we need to do more I'm hoping that that since this is now on the table, players can put more pressure on owners to. Work with the people they are most connected to some of the richest and most powerful people in this nation are in the speed dial of most NBA owners even just the day if feels effective part of I, think resuming the season was the players putting pressure on the NBA to address the social unrest we've been dealing with all summer in some ways. So they started a foundation that's dedicated to investing in black causes. They're giving hundreds of millions of dollars they've given like you know the players, some approved protest phrases that they can use. They can put black lives matter on the courts and things like that and what I liked about this moment is at the NBA players were like that's what I usually do. And that's actually still not enough. So I'm hoping that we can see continued forward motion in that way something that I enjoy in this moment was seeing the NBA take the WNBA's league they have been holding it down all your curves pressing in. So many ways the thing is, is that WNBA, players, they don't make as much money as NBA players do they have really put their necks out there for social justice speaking up. Protecting black lives in many ways, it seems in some ways that they have more to lose by doing it. You know I am maybe two degrees below cautiously optimistic. That is a lot better than cynical, which is where I was before.

Joining me now is the chair of the Homeland Security Committee in the Senate Republican Senator, Ron, Johnson of Wisconsin and Mr. Chairman. Thank you so much. I I want to talk about what? Happened in Portland, we saw someone get killed overnight amid clashes there, and the president has been tweeting and re tweeting before dawn this morning he called for the Mayor of Portland to resign and be arrested. He painted protesters as thugs and cities. In chaos. You are the chairman as I mentioned of the Senate Homeland. Security Committee are you comfortable with the present appearing to inflame tensions instead of what we normally see from presidents, which is trying to calm them down. Maury Dan Listen I've been urging calm across the board particularly in light of what happened here in Kenosha but as I said in opening. Statement when we had the acting secretary well before my committee when when you encourage disdain for the police, you encourage criminals when you do little or nothing to stop rioting. You encourage anarchy. So when you're encouraging criminals and anarchy. People's lives are lost you have more more and more destruction more and more violence. So what we need, we need to get control of the situation and until we until we do, we're going to have more violence we're going to have unfortunately. Prep trenchantly more loss of life. So we need to get control the situation we need to encourage calm an here's something else we need to do. We need to figure out what we do all agree on and we share the same goal. We all want to save prosperous and secure America in states and communities. Let's concentrate on those areas of grievance. That's that's how we achieved the unity everybody says they want
Athletes have so much more than symbolic power
"Athletes in at least five professional sports leagues the NBA The WNBA. Major League Baseball Major League soccer and tennis. Have decided to paraphrase one of those athletes that they are black Americans first and athletes second and so have decided not to play for the time being the decision of course, comes in the wake of the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha Wisconsin the other day many other black men and women in many other cities through time. These athletes want fundamentally police and criminal justice reform right marketplace's Marielle cigarrettes going with what leverage those athletes actually have and how long it might last last night Elizabeth Williams who plays for the WNBA Atlanta dream made a statement she and the other teams would not be playing and she had an ask for their fans if you truly believe that lives matter than vote. Go and complete the two thousand twenty cents is now don't wait. If, we wait we don't make change. Pro Athletes have a platform, and in this case, they're using it to reach out directly to fans and viewers Laurie latrice Martin calls, but they're doing a strike. She teaches sociology in. African. American studies at Louisiana State University. Why striking there providing inspiration for those that are on the front line and goes they're involved in various grassroots efforts. But what about more direct financial pressure the players are withholding their labor hoping their demands will be met. That's a little trickier when they refused to play that does hurt the bottom line for leagues and team owners who could try to force change the NBA billionaires and millionaires you have. Eric. loomis. Who teaches history at the University of Rhode Island says owners could use that power to lobby state legislatures like Milwaukee Bucks players are doing they're trying to get Wisconsin lawmakers to pass police reform legislation, but highly unlikely was Austin. Legislature is gonNA listen about because Wisconsin. Is dominated by pretty conservative Republicans who had been opposed. Chinese protests and and Ben unders. Forty Niners quarterback Colin Kaepernick first to Caen in response to police violence against black people me ultimately is to bring awareness and make people know realize what's really going on in this country. What Sabrina Ionescu's injury means for her rookie season
"Six S. q was the most hyped up rookie that we've seen in the WNBA in a very long time. Maybe ever what is the latest on her injury? Yeah. I agree with you that she was the most hyped to be NBA rookie her just the amount of tweets that were sent out before she even stepped foot on the WNBA court was impressive. I just don't like to lose. The latest update with Sabrina, askew she didn't need surgery, which is obviously a good sign for a great three ankle sprain hasn't been ruled out officially for the rest of the season but the specialists that I've talked to create three ankle sprain like you're not coming back really before three months, and so my guess is that she's going to spend the rest of the season rehabbing and supporting the liberty from afar.

"And thinks you have to pull it up I think she scored twenty three, twenty, four something like that and yet really solid game. And then. Julia Almonte You Know Point Guard in Indiana I think has played really well I think she's she's been a she's not filling up the stat line like crazy snap putting up gaudy numbers but is like. She's again I'm not putting your necessarily into that front runner discussion for rookie of the year. But as far as players who I'm really happy about you know like seeing them in their first season in the league like, yeah like one hundred percent she's doing really well, I, like almond a lot because she's she is playing big minutes. She's playing more than thirty minutes night on a regular basis usually thirty five and and she she also is not you know the main offensive weapon on that team. But when she does shoot, she's usually very efficient. As had four games this year in double digit scoring side I do I I like keeping an eye on her a lot. She's had a games with nine assists eleven. Several with five or more like she. She really helps the flow of the offense. Indiana's kind of a team that. Has Graduated, frown? Being hated on because they're at the bottom of the barrel to we're not really talking about it a lot because they're in the playoffs and they're they're not playing all that bad they're four and seven. You're not doing anything particularly special, but with a rookie guard. Getting that much playing time in them still being able to collect a couple of wins against maybe some of the weaker teams and younger teams We might see them in the playoffs here this year and I think even if you're not going into a series expecting. necessarily. To hold your own like if it's a vegas versus Indiana game, you know not a lot of people are going to put their money on biggess. Are Excuse me on underneath? But just that playoff experience in a league that roster are so limited and the seasons. So Short I think getting class experiences. Rookie means a lot so. Again, I don't. Compete for the award. But. She's definitely someone that I could see being a piece for this team moving forward for a while now, and it seems like using her in the spot where where she's at right now and so. Are Logan I think. I don't WANNA get into defensive player of the year six woman her most improved because those are such like we have to go like thirty players deep on some of those lists. There's so many you know that are. That are in the running for a lot of those. So we'll is a little bit deeper into that as we come to of the regular season. But right now we're not GONNA WE'RE GONNA go ahead and skip that in our midterm discussion. If you. If you WANNA, if you want to hear about that, we're happy to do it maybe like a Patriot special or something So if you want to hop on her patriot and and become a patient there maybe maybe we'll do it there. But for regular episode, will go ahead and skip that speaking of before we before we you know there's one or two things I wanna hit really quick Logan Let let's let everybody know where they can find us on social media in where whereas they can connect with us. As Louis you can find us on social media on twitter primarily where we are at WNBA nation pod. It's Hot Out West: Interview with Seattle Storm's Jordin Canada
"What's going on WB Fans Meg mcpeek I am so happy to be joined by our guest Jordan Canada. She is one of the up and coming superstars in the WMBA. She obviously plays for the Seattle storm coming off a win and you know without introducing her I've got to talk about some of the accolades because you can't mention Jordan Canada and not talk about defense in this league. Here's a two, thousand, nine, hundred, wnba. All defensive first team one, she's a WNBA champion with the Seattle Storm Two thousand eighteen sweeping the Washington mystics open. Guess what she was drafted number five overall by Seattle and I think my favorite fun fact about Jordan is the fact that you are the first. Woman. First Woman in PAC twelve conference history to score eighteen hundred points. Record seven hundred assists in you joined one of the best to ever do it in Gary Payton. In I. I. think that is probably the coolest thing as well. I don't know about you. I'm so excited to have you on the show first off. Happy Belated Twenty Fifth Birthday. How was it? In the bubble. Thank. You obviously, it was quite different. I didn't really get to do much. So I had practice and then I came back and I kinda just chilled That's pretty much I can do is I've been inside the bubble but I've. Sydney gifts my parents sent me a little birthday cake and some edible arrangements. So I got to celebrate just That's amazing. I'm a big fan of the edible arrangements myself. So I am super jealous about that and you mention you know being limited on what you can do in the bubble how is life going in the bubble and? To that point what has been your favorite thing to do not hoops related. The honest we come and don't have much here. We have a pool at the legacy hotel, which is right right up. The street you can save because we're all in villa. So we have a pool that we can go to I. Know they have like early morning golf lessons. and that's pretty much it. That's all we have So for the most part I mean, if you're with your teammates hanger with team You. Aims walking by because we're all in the same areas. Say hello to each other and speak to you know speech our friends and that's pretty much a practice and you come back to your villa. You'd relax and chill we go to games I'm. Really all that we have are you try to make the most of it I? Mean I'm very simple. So it doesn't bother me as much I'm such an introvert. I'm a homebody. So mostly in my room, some of most time just watching TV and stuff. So it's been fine in the beginning of a little bit rough I know something. Terrible living conditions would it where they were saying and stuff but I never had a problem with it but it's been much better You know we've only been here a little over a month. So it's getting better and I think we're just getting used to the conditions of the environment. I'm so happy I actually have something in common with Jordan Canada I am very introverted as well and homebody. So it's good to know if I was in the bubble I would be able to survive with like you said the Gulf I'd be able to hit up. So that'd be pretty cool and it's always fun to relax outside at the pool when you have an off day. So I, know when things being in the bubble and the season being much different than what you're accustomed to. Of course, the news before heading down to a Bradenton geared kloppenburg would be filling in again for coached in Hughes just because of the health concerns with his previous health and cove nineteen how has the team been in contact with coach hugues while being in the bubble? How have you all and coach Kloppenburg still managed to integrate coach us into the day to day of the season. I mean, well, we kind of had a little bit of of that last year when our coaches out when need. Your cancer in remission stuff so. We kinda had. A few games in the season without him and we kinda had to, you know do without him and adjust, but he's always been very active and engaged with us. He I know he talked to the coaching staff allow he does takes me call me from time to time just to talk and catch up I. Don't know about the other players but yet he's just been very engaging in still keeping contact i. know the coaches do a good job of You know talk to him and him incorporating things that he sees while he's. Just, something that he wants us to do Argos very that in. So having a coach Klopp no, be the interim goes like he's had experienced last year being you know in position than he's done a great job and you know we also have like sue bird who's technically light a coach he knows that they're helping. US as well. So we have a lot of help but I know that you know we we really do Miss Dan and I know he's cheering us on from home and you know work continuing to pray for him after thought. So it's it's been a good experience at amazing and it's as if you have done this media before because we me Perfectly with mentioning sue bird and for fans that may not be aware two, thousand nineteen with sue being out with her injury. You were basically thrust in your second season into the starting role and leading this team from the point guard position and being a vocal leader at such a young age in your career. Can you tell us just how that adjustment was? Last season and dealing with that, and even if you know as you mentioned is basically an extra coach with the team on the floor now that you've got her back in the lineup, how how was that transition for you and what advice did she give you throughout last season? It was it was It was tough. I would say there was a lot of ups and downs during that season. It's very hard coming from and you're you know one of the star players on the team you're playing a lot of minutes and you come into a team that's fully stagnant at the see. Find Yourself and my rookie year I had a hard time finding my role I was very up and down I, kind of lost a little bit of my confidence. So it was it was a hard adjustment and then going overseas having to be thrust back into a starting position than have to you know get that leadership back in that confidence bag. So I think that really helped a lot going into two thousand, nineteen season I mean obviously, I didn't expect to be out but because. I was prepared and I gained a little bit my confidence back. I was able to just we know set Ryan in. Obviously there have been subscription ups and downs during that season and trying to learn as I go but sue was a big help. I mean the the best advice that she gave me was don't worry about trying to fill my shoes in in trying to be like me just play your game I know once I came into the league, everyone was talking about Oh. Jordan and ensue in is Jordan going to be able to about up to sue in an expectations and so she told me not to worry about that lying just go out inches player game two point guards, two different types of styles. But what I bring to the table is very important to the team, and so I keep that in mind last year and just trying to play my game and not. The. You know the outside noise and just Do What my team needed to do and I kinda, you know gained a lot of confidence in that and incoming in this season and having Birdie back. I mean like I? Say We're two different point guards in two different styles and if you've watched this play the season, you can kinda tell the difference of when I committed in when she's in. So it's just great to see that you know we're able to play together and you know still Kinda or me keep up the pace with the team when I'm coming in and not have a a low or did. when sue comes out so it's just been awesome experience so far she's been a tremendous help and in my growth all around. How important was that advice that she gave you of reminding you don't try to be me be yourself like how how integral was that inner growth especially, you mentioned now having her back. was very helpful I mean coming into it team like I said I was fully back in playing behind one of the. Honestly. The best point guards ever played the game I mean, that's kind of like nerve wracking and still you have your own expectations like I don't want to screw I don't. WanNa. Come in to a team as police tag playing behind the best point guard ever and you know fail I. Mean there's some of the things I not to think about my rookie year in having her tell me that especially a veteran who's been as game for so long you know she didn't have to tell me that she didn't have to step aside and say, Hey, like don't worry player game don't worry about outside noise expectations just just play your game in big about the team and you which you need to do to to get us to where we are and so to have that advice as such. Early stage in my career was is extremely helpful and it has helped me at times. I think about those times she says that it just calmed down because I know there's been times in the season last year this year where I get super rattle and try to do too much in that think about. That, like calmed down, relaxing, get back to who I am as a player. So to have that to have that advice as A. Data Mark Career is a blessing in Zomba's very thing for her.

They're telling you exactly what they want and like perks says they have constantly led the way. It's absolutely their right to use their voices as American citizens, and also we ask athletes all the time to be leaders in their community to participate in initiatives that the community, and if this is something they think is going to help their community. They certainly have every opportunity to use those voices and I'm so so proud to be associated with the WNBA for the amount of the these. These women hair and that they are willing to stick their necks out. It is so impressive.

"W. NBA. Stars are openly endorsing Kelly Leffler opponent in her Georgia sit race despite her ownership stake in one of the teams, leagues. W Now? No No, no. Cathy Engelbert to ban Leffler from the League after her comments against the black lives matters group. You know she. She's writing this. HELP INNER Players across the WNBA have long been vocal opponents of Senator Kelly Leffler Georgia. Republican who also happens to Cole the League's Atlanta Franchise. But as the special election for Leffler appointed senatorial seats up stars are using their platform to explicitly rebel against the controversial politician prior to Tuesday nights matchup between the Phoenix Mercury and the Atlanta Dream members of both teams express support. For Reverend Raphael. warnock. By wearing t shirts that read vote warnock according to representatives for the mercury players on the Chicago Sky also donned the black and white shirts prior to their game against the Dallas Wings players on the Seattle Storm in Connecticut also wore the shirts prior to the game which you know these people who were I guess they just eight Kelly leveler. Okay. Now, here's the thing. If they schrief walls in the forest and no one is around. Does it make a sound? If. They WNBA player takes political position does anyone know unless there's a reporter there to tell them and then does anyone care? No one watches the Wnba these are the people who off the court because of the national anthem they didn't even neil they walked off the court.
Loeffler knocks WNBA players for wearing shirts backing Democratic challenger
"Any way, but not just for the dream. Players to wear T shirts before the game, But players from every team playing tonight have been spotted wearing shirts. That's a vote Warnock. Now this is a Reverend Raphael Warnock, who is challenging the Kelly left her for her Senate seat. And somebody that presumably all these players have decided, is willing to fight for the things that matter to them, that is supporting the things that they support. And so when Elizabeth Williams afford for the dream talk, Tio ESPN, she said, Ah, you know, we want to make sure we could keep the focus on our Social justice movement. And funny enough. Reverend Warnock is somebody who supports everything we support just happens to be running in that seat, so it worked out really well. I don't know

FEEL FREE TO CHECK THOSE OUT Also Oh. Yeah. He's like the most popular thing on fanatics and we got a lot of good momentum going for our show and a lot of new listeners I would just encourage you to go back to about mayor June in our in our show. And in addition to listening to our our latest updates on the goings on in the League at Games, being played this week I would look up the W history series. Yes. That Stephen and Kyle Apple together in in our Jason was able to to. Put a nice. Sleek packaging on a is a three part series on the the Houston. Comets back to back to back to back. Championship wins from the early days the WNBA and in addition to some evergreen interviews that we did back in in May June, I think those are some episodes that perhaps some new listeners would would like to go in spent a couple of hours. Knocking out I would highly recommend looking those up if if that's something that you're doing laundry this week and you got a fold. In the in the half hour of you're listening to right now ends go look that one up and I think you won't regret not absolutely those were those were a ton of fun I know, Steve. Put a lot hours into that research and honestly some of the most fun episodes that we've ever recorded together but they were blast. But Yeah. Let's. Let's let's hop right into to this. Kind of what I'm just GONNA WANNA ask you logan. You said you came back after after a couple of days of being gone up into yellowstone on a little vacation and What are your thoughts right now? As you know whether it standings whether it's an individual team whether it's a player that's caught your eye what did you some initial quick thoughts of you about about where we're at after four games apiece I've I've a general impression of what the League is GonNa look like at this point even those such a small sample size It's already evident Kinda which teams have their act together and have aspirations for championships and which teams have major problems I'm most surprised by the major problems we're seeing with.

"When the game was kind of out of reach I, love that Jackie getting more time she's at number one draft pick from last year and I think Las Vegas is really trying to get bring her along and help her develop into. She's got the talent. I think it's just putting it together. We saw a similar thing with Kelsey plum. Who you know ironically with the aces is is sitting out this season. But you know starting started had a rough first couple of seasons in the league in now starting to kind of come into her own and I hope Jackie inks can have a similar. Hopefully, she and and plummer having several conversations on that. But overall, just a really really solid performance from Las Vegas. ATLANTA? They're they're going to have a similar season to like your Dallas in your and your. New York. Because they you know they've got so many new. New players and you know young players they've got they're trying to put a lot of this together. Kennedy Carter. Came in and right out the gate had ten points I swear before I blinked but she only finished with with eleven. She didn't shoot very well went three for eleven. But I think still trying to find her find her spot and find her rhythm with this team Mooney billings who had what Logan brought up. I think one of the most impressive stat lines that we've seen so far this whole season she had in their first game and Las Vegas just completely shut her down. Helder to five points just A. Seven rebounds. So she seemed to be a little bit of a non factor. Luckily, we saw Lisbeth William Step Up. With sixteen points but Atlanta, it was a rough game. Atlanta let's let's chucked out one up to. A kind of a lack of chemistry and go ahead and move forward. But. Yeah. So that's kind of my take on these games I thought that there was a lot of fun basketball and I'm never gonNA complain. Anytime That I did watch six WNBA Games in a two day span I'm super super stoked and I love that there. There's somewhat staggered. So I can kind of watch them all back to back to back the. There's a little bit that crossover where I have to flip back and forth during commercial breaks and Trang keep tracking, and sometimes I'll have one up on my phone up on my on my television and try and watch watch too at the same time and catch it that way but. Is Episode late release. Just wanted to get something out for you guys to listen to. Hopefully you guys enjoyed this little bit of a down for me. "What's up WNBA nation Kyle Haywood here and I'm running a quick solo episode. Just. Wanted to hop on and give you a little bit of a mid week update after the second round of games has happened. So officially, every single team in the NBA has played two games now and just a quick look at the standings because I didn't anticipate. Some of these starts are right. If you told me that both Connecticut and the Mercury Connecticut in Phoenix would start the season off. Oh and two out of been a little surprised. If you told me that the mystics would have started off to, no, I also would have been a little bit surprised. Now granted, there's a lot a basketball to be played but particularly. For Phoenix I really feel like they'll figure it out here hopefully soon, New York's got an uphill climb because they've got seven rookies. Yeah. They have Sabrina UNESCO, them trust me we're GonNa talk plenty of Sabrina. But right now New York's got a pretty drastic uphill climb in Connecticut I think still trying to figure out their identity with dewana Bonner and junk Jones sitting out. So there's some continuity there but I I, just wanted to hop on and have a quick little chat session with you guys and and have a little bit of just a breakdown of what we've seen during the second to the second little series of game. So but as we do I just wanted to invite. Forever, you're listening to this podcast whether it's on apple podcasts or some other pod grabber go ahead and subscribe, and if you would be so kind to if you are listening on apple podcasts or some other. Some other area that you can give a rating. We would really appreciate that that helps us to get boosted up the ranks of the sports podcast and be able to hopefully reach more new WNBA listeners and be able to help get them introduced to the League. So Let's get. Into it, I think the I. I'm not GonNa do these in order I'm going to do them by the way that I imagine you guys want to talk about I think the majority of people really WanNa talk about new. York Dallas because there were so many new faces to the League in this game that we really got kind of A. Snapshot of the Future of the League. So there's just talking about the elephant in the room Sabrina. UNESCO. Thirty three points seven rebounds seven assists just a really really solid game she she shot fifty five percent overall including sixty percent from behind the ARC and went perfect five for five behind at the free throw line. Now, as a whole New, York didn't shoot terribly the shot forty, two percent, even the three point percentage at thirty six isn't terrible. where, they really seemed to struggle was slowing Dallas down and being able to create difficult looks for Dallas Dallas came out shooting. Ended ended up shooting fifty percent for the game. Lead by a Rica Mboya. WHO Is just basically the face of the team at this point. So Gumbo Wally Drops Twenty Mariah Jefferson with thirteen and then sought to and Katie Lu both bringing in a twelve a piece there. But really outside of UNESCO do. Not a lot of performance. From, the rest of this liberty squad. Clarendon did bring in eleven points herself had a couple of steals. And a man does that we with eleven rebounds but just really seemed especially late down the stretch when New New York was trying to close any semblance of a gap moving forward. was just really having a hard time finding a shot to drop so. Kind of kind of an interesting one, we were able to see a lot of. Players. Able to get. Jasmine Jones. Out there. Kylie shook Megan Walker join our homes. We're able to see quite a bit of Jocelyn Willoughby which I thought was pretty exciting. So we'll see we'll see what happens with this New York team. Any W is going to be going to be welcomed by any liberty fans but I think liberty fans should be encouraged that they're. Their front office is is kind of playing with this extremely deep draft class in trying to see who's GonNa. Emerge. Obviously with Sabrina, they know they've got a future franchise piece there but a lot of these other players they're trying to just feel out and see who's GonNa. WHO's GonNa turn into something so Dallas comes away with that victory ninety, three to eighty. Dallas getting their first victory. On the season, which is really awesome for them being able to get that I. W. And get over the liberty. Of this was you know the number one pick Sabrina against the number two pick sought to savelly both of them Oregon ducks, and it was kind of fun to see them finally play against each other after playing with each other. For three years. The next game I wanNA talk about and it's simply because. I just don't know what to think. Is Indiana, and Phoenix. Now. Indiana I think could potentially be a an outside shot at a playoff spot. I think they've got the talent, but you've got a brand new coach. They've got a few new pieces and. They just they haven't made the playoffs for the less you know several seasons and it'll be. Kind of changing that culture to a winning culture I. Think is going to be. is going to be difficult for them. However, if there's a season to do it, why not this one in the bubble? Indiana does come out with the with the w though over the heavily talented Phoenix Mercury squad. INDIANA. Was led three players getting twenty plus points with another just shy tiffany Mitchell, a twenty four candidacy pre with twenty three tier mccown with twenty. And Kelsey Michelle, just outside of that range with eighteen. This was just an just a high scoring battle. It seemed like neither team. was getting stops and both teams were just on a hot streak both teams shot right around fifty percent with Indiana fifty one point four percent from the floor. Both of them over forty percent from three point line just insane. The difference in this game as it is in so many other games is free throws it came down to free throws. Ninety almost ninety three percent from the fever and only a seventy percent from Phoenix. which is just Not, going to get it done down the stretch. If you're if you're missing free throws that frequently hardly seemed to particularly have a difficult time. A difficult time at the free throw line. Missing half of her eight attempts there. But there were if you shining pieces from Phoenix as well, Bria Hartley even though she struggled. From, behind from the free throw line played a really really solid game shot nine of fifteen from the field with twenty six points. I was really impressed with what I, what we saw from her she also. Shared. The assist lead on the team with with five she into ROC- both dropping five times of peace. But Yeah Bria Hartley with twenty five minutes and twenty six points to basically kind of keep Phoenix in it. We also were able to see. Br Brittany griner. Finally. She had a pretty rough initial first game and she didn't she's not. She's not playing. The way that I that we've been able to see her in the past. But I mean she had twenty three points and seven rebounds. It's not terrible. But didn't didn't. I didn't feel like she had a particularly strong game and I do expect a little bit more from her to have. Only with six points. Sky Dig with twelve I mean it was. kind of a it's kind of a rough rough go for some of the big star players of the Mercury and they did have a couple bench players step up. I gotTA. Shout out to a lot of Smith who we've interviewed on the show last season if you want to go back and listen to her interviews, one of my favorite interviews that I've done personally. Is Great to see her get out and and get some good solid minutes played over half the game and came with fourteen points. I thought that was great. Can we talk for a second about tear McCowan though goodness? Gracious drop in twenty and thirteen. Wasn't really a factor in their game one and I was a little frustrated. Didn't you know we didn't see your start either game and it seemed like her minutes weren't really there in the first maybe she's still coming along in the in the conditioning side of things and if so I. Totally get that. But there are different team when she's on the court. I love the she was able to play thirty minutes eight for eleven. From the field like just a really really solid game from account..

"All right this is where I have to get my heartache. In I think two thousand eighteen is that hot of a draft at noon. Yeah it's a good draft. I think it's honestly over inflated. Didn't this was the first draft we covered as though now. I'm not saying it's a bad draft is very draft. I see this being. This could potentially be like a three player prong draft if Jordan candidate proves. I think the two players that you go this was these were the two mainly Asia than prolly diamond. A shield right. I think there's a potential ceiling and a lot of these players. I could be wrong. I know it just didn't sit with me and they did just recency. Maybe it's one of those things like. I have a hard time picking a class that hasn't shown like the value quite yet so it's really hard to pair with other draft. Glasses that your body seeing what they can put together. So maybe that's it I can. I can totally understand that I totally. I totally feel that I think for me. The the rookie season for this class wasn't strong. Sophomore season. Like just probably a lot of reasons he because you just look at the season that so many of these players had the last year and I'll fully admit probably some reasons he vice went into that. Yeah I tried not to let that cloud things too much. I mean look at players. Like like Asia Wilson. Who has a chance of being the defining player of an era? But but beyond that like as your Stevens who is involved in an offseason trade might might be more involved Ariel Atkins Alexi Brown like if players that put together good careers in the League for ten seasons. We might look back at draft and kind of it'll it'll be flavored ovid more prominently right. It's hard to say that before when it's only been there for Dixie. They could be as as where I can't put stock into it. And that's where like for instance. I walked out of rookie seasons feeling that way about as your Stevens Kelsey Mitchell. I walked out of sophomore seasons feeling significantly less about those two players mum. But it's a tough one because you're right almost every pick in this. Top twelve is a powder keg. Because there's a chance like Maria Ghoulish me of a diva like kinder's K. Brown just got traded and has some like. I think she could do a lot in Minnesota. Yeah that Yan them I just. I'm I'm maybe. He said like side by side with the twenty sixteen draft. It's almost like I feel like there are still more upside to the two thousand eighteen draft but between six more proven. I totally get why you would take twenty sixteen for being like this is already done. I guess it's just the potential is there. It's that right now. I look at two thousand sixteen and I know there are two. Mvp caliber players. I don't know if that's evidence to white yet eighteen. Yeah but I like the selection. I'm not going to out if you guys put them in your top two. I would have more of a stink three I I yeah I knew I couldn't put them in my top two. I couldn't put sixteen or eighteen in my top two. Just because I'm like there's there's too much of the story to be written. If that makes sense yeah I think either one of them in ten years we look back and have them in the top two. I think they both have that potential. But I don't think right now we could say that I mean but yeah it. It's just a hardwood. I can't look at it feel biased because I studied all of these players so much because it was our first reading abstract. Yeah we watch this. We did a livestream owner account watching this on the way to see Justin timberlake like it was. You're right we did it was it was a pretty big. I'm not gonNa out you guys. Let's it's probably just my sneaky. It takes to be like invited me. That said I'm down with it. So do twenty eight teams in the two thousand sixteen so that was her our modern round. I guess you could say let's hit number two So this'll be your second best. Wnba draft class of all time. Thile this is where I'm starting to feel like okay. I'M GONNA get. I wonder how our listeners are going to judge top two and I'm just I don't know my number two is. I'm going two thousand four number one Diana Rossy arguably the greatest women's Basketball Camilla. Yeah but but just like. We've said we don't want to do that. Same thing for a brief steward or anybody else. But number twos Elena Beard Lindsay whalen four Shamikh Christian at five Rebecca Brunson at ten. Like there's some. There's some solid solid players. They also have a little sweet third row third third round Jim at Jia Perkins thirty fifth overall to the Charlotte Sting and who earned herself. At least won't is it too. I think she had to all star selections. I can't remember one all star selection but she made the all decade teen for the San Antonio Stars so Jia Perkins third-round Little Gym there. I like this draft a lot. I Yeah I feel like I have to justify it a lot but I don't I I'll probably just stop right now. I always like to think about you. Know there's there's thirteen selections in the first round. If you're sitting there at number ten and you get Brunson okay. Well there's worse things I feel he was Sean. I think it's top-heavy the top four are really heavy and then there's a couple of later ones but I just I went with my gut on this one. I really do think the two thousand four zero solid I think it. I think it deserves a number two spot. Yeah I I think it's okay when drafts are top heavy. If you think of it in terms of how many number picks would you be willing to give up for a decade of Trouser your beard on your team like like more than one like like other? There's usually one or two or three great players the top of every WBZ draft but those are two that are like can't miss to franchise defining type players right and Lindsay. Whalen at four left out. Because I don't think I like very much undeniable. Let me so let me sum wayland some waylon. Steve WanNa hear your take on this one like my selection or my takes you take on on two thousand four. I think it's a extremely good Clyde. I said really nails in a lot of ways. It's you have players that defined rosters up and down this. Yeah at two two makes total sense. It's it's feels weird because we're talking about top heavy data trusty draft is one of those like a. You could you could. That's all you have to say you can put your. She got the top three alone. If you really wanted to so I get. That's for sure my number two was already called out. Apparently have a lot more stock in this. I'm going with the three. To See. Twenty thirteen is my number two all time. I think you can look at careers of like if you pick three players out of every draft you go. Oh three players megabit careers or accolades. This is the most star-studded raft of all time because became extremely marketable because of these top. Three got a nickname. They all were widely understood. We knew odor they would go in but if they went and other orders it would have made total sense. Britney griner one almost dominant women's college players of all time Elena Delle Donne coming out of obscurity New Hampshire Skyler diggins. Who is pushing the you know the the long for you know the long strong history at Notre Dame and came straight. I'm just everyone came in with such high value in so much excitement where it adds to. It is Kelsey bone solitaire. And Hawkins. Lake Clarendon sneaks in the first round. I love the second round so much. Alex Bentley Sugar Rodgers Enemies Amon. It's just a really really really really like this draft in terms of yes. It has a lot of basketball accolade. Do you have an MVP and here. You have multiple time defensive player of the year in here but you also have like you said this was a very strong public drat. This is one that generated buzz and I honestly reminds me of what you know. Not necessarily what was seen this? Oh coming up but I think like drafts. Like the usuals draft the stuey draft what. We're probably going to see with UNESCO draft even though that's going to be in a weird format where there's a lot of that discussion and you had three players. Who remarkable who had who had value to offer the second. They showed up on the court just for that alone. Because I think that's the thing with drafts drifts. Crapshoot how many we talk we. We've talked about this a lot. How many times do we have to have the lake? The Pistons could have had such an search her but they chose instead of discussing how many NFL fans sit through the ethin- combine every single year. Almost a needless popular sporting ever the crapshoot in sometimes what builds value is that star studded nece and sometimes a draft has both. I think like the two thousand three. Nba draft is a great example of one that had like a lot of flash in flare but also just had really really really good basketball has a little of that but yeah I think what it did for. The impact of the growth league was really strong. Like it Yeah no IT'S A. It's a solid. Yeah I agree. I love that draft. I Love I love that draft very look at number two. I am starting to think that Kyle and I want to top one. Two and three year old going to be seeing my spot is also two thousand four Basically are sorry. Kitty that's colonized top. Three can't be the same because of something that I just noticed sit down. We won't go one two three down the stretch here but for for our two and three spots we're going to be In in lockstep I have two thousand four year as he topped to draft class. As I mean I kind of made by what we were talking about with. Kyle but I think those are players that defines any meat. You're just retired in DC around so they define the league for more than a decade and are just passing the torch to the kind of the current class. That's that's stepping into their own. So for that reason I I and maybe like subliminally I just looked at two thousand four and between the WNBA players that I I love and the NBA class. That was that year. I just think that was the best basketball.

"With the first of all like there's at the end when they'll have ten apple's on top? They open the fridge. And there's like eighty more apples in the fridge. What are you doing with all these apples? I I do not remember this one. Oh it's weird to go look it up. It's a lion tiger and a dog all competing and bragging about how many apples that can balance on their heads. It's like I have four apples up on top. And then a bunch of stuff and it legitimately the whole time. You're reading it. You're just like I just want one person to explain because it just starts with. I've got one apple up on top. I want someone to explain how this guy got kicked off because this feels like a weird bar game that never got explained and I need someone to explain it and then you get to the end. And they all have like nine intellect chatty attend. And there's a fridge that opens and is Jimmy. Like fifty more apples in the fridge. And I'm like why do you have one hundred? I don't I just need I need. I need exposition. Just a little exposition. It's only ten one exclamations now but like in a month when we're still in courting will be like yeah. We play apples on top all the time. It's apples it's on. Espn two apples on top. And but we got to talk a little bit of a little bit of Sue. Snap Talk. Let's go ahead and jump into our topic so again. This is the top five. Wnba draft classes of all time. This obviously we'll take a little bit more of a slow cadence so we have a chance to have some fun discussions But a different than what we just did where you go five to one. We'll all go pick by pick in around. We'll start five and then we'll end it one different from some of the drafts in brackets and stuff like that we've done in the past. Yes there will be repeats. I think the interesting discussion will be where we land. Some of those repeats is what's going to make this interesting so kyle kick things off and then I'll go next and Logan I'll have you finished things up much. Feels like a good cadence. I'm going for number five right. Yes you'll go five five five and then we'll kick back to you for the four and we will see who determined which I guess I'll write everyone's names down. So I have this documented which I do for every time we do something like this and I think maybe we'll use it for and we never do but better safe than sorry so good. No did you. Have you ever comment eraser handed? Yeah Logan let's Open. Logan any comments for restarted. Just I'm just thinking about the five hundred hats of Bartholomew cabins in highest net too hard. Just now looking. We're talking about the draft broken Logan for the episode title. One more title and we're done about a battle book is the only other one that I was like all anyway so kyle. Let's kick things off with your number five best. Nba Draft Class. So when Steve said that this could be like he had a couple of could be number five a couple of could be number one. This one fell in that category and kind of last minute. I dropped at the number five. I'm going to go. Two thousand eleven is my number five. Pick just real quick couple highlights. This included in my immoral is Van. Slough Gentle lavender Daniel Robinson. Jasmine Thomas Jessica. Brillant Daniel Adams Carolyn swords Sydney Colson. A Montgomery. There's a bunch of people in this in this draft that have made some waves in the league. I think it's a very deep draft them and a lot of people consider my more to be. You know an art they can. You can make the argument that she's the greatest of all time so I think it definitely deserved a place on this list. I'm going to see later if I regret having as low as five but I I just yeah there you go this. The one through three on. This is like really put me in my tracks. I was really surprised that when I first looked at it was like whoa. It Really Kinda hits you so yeah. I liked that I liked that as five. That's a good eleven logan. If you don't have any thoughts will will move ahead but any thoughts twenty seven. No that's it's yeah. I do think it's a little top-heavy but there are still players that we obviously recognize in the second round beyond Also Britney Spears spears. Yeah it was going to bring that up. Yeah which we asked to talk about. Britney Spears and yeah fun for everybody but it makes sense we're going to hear probably a couple of selections today that like the headliner of that draft carries that draft into the top five by the art so that that totally makes I like the. Let's say I liked it. This one has call outs in the second and third rounds like it's there's some that have solid I rant and there's really not much to speak of after that and I like this one for sure Really kick it over to my number five. This one was tough because it was going to be this in another one that I think pretty hard. I'm GONNA kick things off with two thousand eight draft so this went candace parker the one silly fouls at the two. This is definitely a top heavy draft. It's I mean those are really the main standouts but you have a lot of solid names. Timor young essence Carson Crystal Langhorne Makeup an were included in the first round and I think one thing that stands out to me with two thousand more than everything. Candace Parker's draft kind of was a changing of the guard for the League in one way at least definitely for the sparks right. This was definitely a celebrity. Feels like she can. She can retire in Peace Now. That candace parker is a spark like it definitely had that feel to it fouls came in and kind of not out of obscurity. She was the number two pick. But you know there's arguments to her her career being nearly successful as candice's and I think candace parker rookie year alone is. What makes us a top five deserving roster piece? This Burger walked into the League as the rookie of the year and the MVP in her rookie. Season Just that alone tells me that was a solid class now. Granted that doesn't speak to the rest of the field. It's not as insane of Afield. Big Call out that I think really does help to a point second round number twenty five. Leilani Mitchell at a UTAH. Venus to Phoenix was was awesome. But yeah that's that's where I didn't have as much of the staying power. Some of them were deep. Pit Picks. But if you're going to have a strong one to you I love that one too especially because they're both producing today and that's why I went with them. I really like. I'm glad you included when it didn't it barely didn't make my cut because I think there's a lot of busts in that first round but I think that the depth of having Allie Quigley in mid second round Johnny Mitchell late second round like players that have had staying power. I think that clearly skipped A. You're totally right. I don't know why skipped on that. But you're having both of them were like mid to late second round like that. That brought it up a lot for me and I think that's where when it came between twenty eleven and two thousand those kind of the two that I'm glad you went to an eight. Because that was my. That was the one that I'd grown. So I'D BE REMISS IF I didn't call out some of my favorite names in any of these draft classes at four Alexis Horn buckle which lease a great player at Tennessee along. Candace Parker I just love. I Love Horn. Buckle that's just a great classic mid Western Sitcom Name and you gotta give me some latoa pringle out of toy pringle. Yes so good big fan of good names and I like that name see I. It's eleven from Kyle. Two Thousand Eight for Myself Logan. What's your number five number five? Is the two thousand fourteen draft? I am nervous because I don't know if you guys have this one or if you guys haven't we high or if you do it at all but looking through it to me. It looks like a lot of players that are all stars and for the next couple of years may continue to be all stars particularly in the first round. It is a top. The first Andrea are not a lot of players. I recognize beyond the first round but with and Odyssey soons and he will mcbride all right at the top Natasha Howard. Also if they're Steph Dole said Melissa Thomas players that we know to be good pieces different teams right now basically i. Maybe I was just overwhelmed by reading this list because they all went back to back to back tobacco in a row but it just seemed like if you're at the top of the draft. You got someone who is GonNa be a regular player for you for the next seven seven years. This is a good round. Want like a first round like the they might be the best this six. This is the first round of players that you add to get over the title like almost every topic all of these picture. Like Yep like we're we're roster now natalie it's Sean was well obviously Chelsea Gray was eleventh. There's arguments that she's the best player in this field and she will eleven In the League could add a Tasha Howard to get better or Addison's you'd better. You called out to three. Not being recognizable actually really strong too in three yet. A stupid door north that I immediately saw third around includes Theresa Place Science Steph Talbot Engineer Faulkner. That's it yes I didn't even see faulkner. Yeah wow that's a solid. That's that's I don't want to call it a week but like it's not a very strong first-round if it includes. Us three picks but like respectable if it were a first round in some years solid ground surprisingly good like it's fun to see a a six years old draft class. We have three third round players that are still kicking hard. That's great. That's more than I thought I would honestly. That's really good. I'm I love this because so far all three of our picks I don't have either of your two picks in the rest of my top five and I'm loving that you want us to. I'm so sobering all right. So we've got twenty eleven at the five with Kyle Myself. Two Thousand Eight Logan with twenty fourteen. Let's head into our fourth selections. Kyle kick it off.

"Course Jaakko twinsies. That's how we're going to get through this country. Tuesay's man my tired of this desk. Can I just say it like I was? I was talking to my wife about that just because we were both working from home and we're just taking turns like working in this office in. Its I'm I don't WANNA be here. It's hard though I'd say Mookie is thrilled because we are going on walks. He is getting his energy out. We are all the time. This is the best month ever Henry. Hendrickson Heaven Yeah. It's John Yeah. My dog kids are yet. I think we go on walks a day. Yes like we have our morning walk after afternoon. Walk in than I walked before bed like it's literally we were. GonNa Walk for like two hours today. It was fun but it's working. It's good stuff. So that's that's life in in virus world. I guess so I suppose it goes without saying we hope. Everyone is safe and healthy. And he's taking proper precautions. We definitely cosign to the world of if you are in the realm of being able to stay within your home and and avoid I believe people are trying to call it phys distancing now. I don't. That's the rumor. I've heard but you know. Just be away from people is what. I call it and all that stuff so we hope we can. We can do that. So that's that's I. Guess DISCLAIMER FOR THIS EPISODE. But this is weird because the Patriot episode. And I'm so used to asking Kyle to give an audit but that's not what we do here but as noted really quick. This is one of four programs that will be doling out to our listeners. At least every couple of months on the Patriot on page so check out her patronage and get a feel for what we have to offer. They're not only just in programming loss of some fun kickbacks. We're going to be sending away. We'll be really extending out more so in. May Time what that's going to look like. Original plan was to do a march release with all the content as you guys know. A lot of things happened in March and we just decided it made sense to postpone that a little bit to allow everyone to focus on whatever it is going on in their lives. Pitcher page still open. If you do under a give us some support definitely does go a long way and we certainly appreciate it but we want to take the opportunity here in April to reveal some Some of this programming to give an idea of what we're doing over at the Patriot here to additions of her orange OATMEAL Open Forum. A last week he got to Logan I for I. Uni Ira Sports. Looks UNI episode? I had a lot of fun doing and this one is a little more. I think simple but but Cathartic in a lot of ways this is w list and what we'll do here is every week every week. Sorry every episode right now it technically bi-monthly it might be soon. You'll learn why patronage but every episode we will specifically Dole out a top five list. Each of us have compiled and then we will go and around and discuss them. And I'd sure that's a whole program. I have nothing else to say about the show. Do you have any comments on the format of the show? 'cause that's really this one's cutting grass. Yeah that's pretty much. It is just make a make a list. It's the w list so away so so obviously every episode we will have our main WNBA related topic. And if you're looking at the title you probably already know but Logan. Do you WanNa tell all of our friends and good ones. This episode is dedicated to. Yeah this one is going to be a each of ours. I'm going to rephrase that we have each determined the top five wnba drafts since the WNBA began. And we haven't disclosed them to one another and they are probably not the same. We're we're excited to dig into that and we are the show. This is going to be such a very boring. I would actually like really be creeped out because I think we were all. We were all in the same place before we started recording. Which is like I got like five or six but I don't know what order to put the episode where like the Logan take a usually am violently against them like. Oh thank goodness yes. We were on the same brainwaves. Wouldn't have been interesting at all definitely so we're going to drive into yes. Our top five draft classes through through the history of course designer of the WNBA draft which will be taking place on the seventeenth. Yes on the seventeenth. I keep my brain wants to say nineteenth but at seventeenth which of course as scheduled. It won't be crowded be virtually done. It will be aired on. Espn thank you for everyone on. Twitter said to take stand and so that up and looming. We'll probably have some sort of a draft preview mock draft episode proper of WNBA nation coming up but beforehand. We thought it would be fun to talk. Draft classes in history and get hyped for it. Because it's really the first actual wnba thing that we're going to be able to talk about in quite a while and potentially for a while so it's true the last of the WNBA things to happen this year. Just put it that way. I love lists. I Love Fun discussions and I love people doing these video game simulations but you know what? I love more than all that actual basketball. Yeah people people playing the game of basketball on a basketball court. I believe it or not. Superfund a WHO's GonNa break it all these. Nba players filming themselves playing video games. But nobody cares about that I know it's the past the time but it. It's not the same which is funny. Because the I will say the Devon Booker video when he found out about the like the season suspension. Still possibly the best thing to come out of this entire thing if there's a positive thing to come out of it because he just he gets in peer shock for two segments that just go straight back to playing like duty or whatever on a dime so. I think it's not GonNa work like your parent telling you there's a snow day and you're like cool. It's like almost exactly like you like I don't even know what hell else just like. You're right about to leave for shift like Taco Bell. Hey powers that don't come in today. Like what am I doing it anyway? Before we jump into that we have a little primer on this episode of W list of Bean. We always do. I mean this is the first time you've done it so that technically counts. This is an opportunity for us to do some fun. Get to know you also hit some easy topics but in a fund rapid fire way and just realizing that I haven't named the segment yet and I'm going really slow to try name the segment For now we're going to call it list lightning round the lightning wrong guys are dead going. I majored in lightning rounds like this. This is the W. list lighting around all right so here is the lightning round works courses host. Nobody ever at home each of us. We'll have our own top five that we will be given the the issue here is. We don't know yet what that list is. Each host will give another host the list that they need to compile and the only to immediately. Give your top five of that topic as quickly as you can. Once you've given your top five you will then it to that individual hits to another host and then we'll go into a circle seal. He'll three list. He'll that was interesting. You'll hear three top five lists different topics. "Found on Twitter, WNBA weekly so really comes down to I expect at Nikko McKay to avid, pretty huge turnaround this year, and I could easily see here making an MVP I think she's in prime position to, to maintain herself as an elite player. I think she played a little bit underwater expectations were last year from from my perspective, and I expect to see or come up big then as well. That said all that goes out the window. I just I love me some good drama. And I wanna see help that would lose again. In a bigger game. In sports, you always kinda wanna dig whenever. Unless it's something obvious. Like if the beginning of the year, you're like, I think water finals. Good for you when bold. But like now that people are really jumping on the bandwagon saying their favorite favorite team to win, all like guys they weren't in the playoffs last year. Like I know they made a big big up. But I I'm worried that, that maybe they're going to be a little bit cooler coming into the season and takes time to figure things out. That's it. No makes total sense to me. So that's how the rest of the the week going out lugging about you. But I've had time this is fun. Such a good time. It's like I know it's cheesy, but like it's just so nice to finally be in it. Like a not forecasting or any of that, like the offseason materials done for a while. I don't know. It's it was just crushing. It's fun to beat the restaurant. It's nice to come in the door. Smell the smells you walk in the door, waiting rooms of charming, you love sitting down getting to know the waiter getting a drink, but nothing beats when the meal shows up, it's nice that we got the meal that they place it in front of us. They warned us that the plate is hot and we're ready to dig in its. That's why we show up says good stuff. Was that the best or worst analogy ever heard I don't know, because I was trying to work in a fever joke, but I don't have one, two fever won a game tonight at the restaurant, I don't know. We caught the fever. I don't know fear of w. The, the meal that last year was giving all kinds of people food poisoning is suddenly, the most popular thing on the menu like tweak it just enough. And tonight, all of a sudden it's like they're out of their out of buns. They sold this. Waiting forty eight hours to be sure. Tribulations but it was better than I remember look, I'm going to come back next week. And I'll see if it's good again real Naganao air door now. Okay. Good. I actually. Okay. I think we I'm going to stop now and I'm gonna let this thing, go to bed because I can easily ruin it. If I keep trying. Again, the other plugs, check us out on Twitter, WNBA weekly, having already same a nomenclature over Facebook. If you'd like to pretty give support on patriot. It's definitely a big help for us head start on be show. A shopping grabber shirt merchandise, anything, you can get your hands on..

"I'm nobody shirt I forget the name of the dude. But some guy responded to believe his Asia Wilson, saying something smuggled cross lines of the you're not getting paid more, because nobody watches the WNBA just just for the fun of it from the WNBA account. We decided to cook tweet that and said, hey, re tweet. If you're a nobody. It's flooded. Our feed. It was honestly art worming. I love it when the WNBA community comes together because, you know, we support this in strong. And so, that's what this is about if you love the league if you wanna promote the w and you wanna make it clear that, you know, I stand with it. I'm a nobody. You know, I I love this league and I stand with it feel free to make your voice heard. You can find these under storing and be paid. You have a couple of other designs as well and get him at a lot of different forms. I'm Rockin the dark blue long polo, you can get t shirts. There's some baseball style tease. I believe you can get tanks. There's a lot of different ways that you can these we got let himself seen. He's absolutely get yourself a hoodie. So, yeah, I threw up the link to it. I don't know if it's actually a link but I put up the, the way to find it, you can just copy and paste out of the chat. There. But yeah, go ahead and check that, by the way, the pr- the proceeds from the I'm a nobody t shirts. All of those. Proceeds actually, like none of that comes to us K. We actually don't we don't use. It doesn't go into our wallets or anything like that. We actually use the proceeds any profits that we make from these shirts. We put them into what we kind of consider like the WNBA scholarship is, I guess, what we could say, like it's essentially where we take these proceeds, and we we're going to go, and we actually purchase tickets to WNBA games and find people in those communities, that haven't attended the W N WNBA game that are potential fans and get them in seats. We go buy tickets for people who who need to go to a game. And so if you guys know of individuals if you if you say, hey, I've been trying to convince my buddy to to get to the game we, you know, if you if you know he might be he or she might be a really good potential candidate for you, WNBA scholarship. We're kinda looking. Applications for that. We're talking to teams about we're kind of work in the best way to go about this. So it doesn't just go into, you know, kind of just giving out random free tickets to people who would go. Anyway, we're trying to find individuals who are on that verge, but haven't attended the game because what made us big fans as we actually went to the actual games..

Joined by my good friend, Jason snow tonight. How's it going? Jason, dude. I am doing so good excited to sort of test out this new format we kinda hinted at it. We recently did that live feed for the WNBA draft. That went really, well, we got really great feedback. I thought from it and a great participation. So we wanted to try this out. See if a video version of our pot is something that you guys would enjoy let us know what you think you'd be weekly on Twitter. And we like it we think it'll give us a chance to do a regular audio version of the pod that's not going away. But this'll do is if you have the time or or you have the interest in watching it. We'll be able to throw highlights up as we're talking. We'll be able to throw up graphics. Maybe make it a little bit more interesting. Little more bang for your buck, which you don't pay much for the pot unless you're on patriots in which case, we appreciate you very much. Yeah. I think it's going to be good absolutely, dude. I'm pretty excited. It's kind of a fun. Maybe you may experience a little bit of growing pains along with us. But hey, we're trying to add some different. Elements to our coverage of the league. So we'll see this just one just one more thing that we're giving a shot. So if you guys like it go ahead, if you are watching on on YouTube, go ahead and give it a like give us a comment. Let us know where you're watching from in the YouTube comments below and then also if you want to you know, let us know what you think about it. You know, give us some feedback. We'd be happy. You know, send us a message. Whatever you want. But Jason dude, we got a lot of the cover today. There's a bunch of stories that have happened here after the WNBA draft that are just kind of all over the place now out down last week with a Neela w hoops blogger for those of you who are want to give her a follow on Twitter. We broke down with her with her some draft grades for the WNBA draft. And there's been a lot happen. So let's let's kinda hop right in first of all day. Well. The day that we're recording. This not the day that you guys are listening. But today it was announced that CBS sports is actually picking up forty WNBA games. Love it. Love it. Love it. I believe I'd have to pull the exact numbers believe ESPN was planning on showing sixteen regular season games. Now, of course, ESPN is doing their coverage of the WNBA finals. So that will play into it. But let's if they show all the. Just the finals, but the whole w MBA playoffs. I guess so. So if that's the case with all the WNBA playoffs. Plus, they're sixteen regular games. This is sensually doubles the amount of times that the WNBA is going to be on television this year. With the sixteen regular from ESPN, plus all the plus forty this is that's insane. Forty regular season games on CBS sports super.

"My Moore's is because decision, but we're coming into year where you're not gonna have those two names, you know, and and that's that's a huge hit in terms of like the ability to publicize it the ability to push it. And even just the ability to have the best players on the court. I mean, there is no replacing brand Stewart Seattle is going to be worse off this year without her. There's just no way around that. I was considering that as well. The window for the Seattle storm really opened up this last season for them to potentially have a two three year span where they're right at the top of the league with breathe going down this season and super having already been the oldest player in the league for a little while. That's kind of a scary place to be for Seattle. Obviously, you've got you know, some players backing up, you know, sue burden breathe at that have some potential, but it's really hard to to see someone like Jordan Canada's stepping in right off the bat. Let's say super were to retire the end of the season. And you know, she misses her last season playing with with Stuey. There's a major impacts. And I know we're talking a little bit about the storm. But this is this is league wide. This is game. Y this is across the board for not only WNBA players but players that are playing overseas. There's some players that we've seen in the past play strictly overseas and decide to forego the WNBA season to, you know, be more prepared for. Euro league or you know, international commitments things like that. So one thing I love the nailer brought up was the CBA discussions that will be ongoing. And I think that this this right here is going to be exhibit a for the players to show and say, listen, if you want to if you truly care about us as assets to your organization unique to help us to the point to where we aren't having to go overseas and play year round. I know what story's making on her on her contract, and it's gonna it's honestly it would be tough to live in the Seattle area on that kind of an income. And so that's, you know, needless to say about, you know, liberty players are sparks players which are playing in markets that are even more difficult for them to find living that's affordable under the current CVA. This cert- currency VA regulation. So I think this is going to be huge a huge store moving forward unfortunate. Obviously with a lot of negatives coming if there is a positive coming possibly waking up the league and some of their officials in the discussions, and hopefully we see something positive come from this. But obviously, we our thoughts are with Brie and her family and and the storm in the end the whole league in general. That's obviously hurting right now, this has been been kind of a tough twenty four hours to get through surrender stand. But with that being all mentioned, we do want to hear from you guys on Twitter at WNBA weekly. Go ahead, and send us your takes on all of this. And where you think some of the biggest impact is gonna come with the brianna Stewart injury. But with that goes, let's go ahead and move onto our actual main discussion that we're going to have today are WNBA draft. Grades sheet are right. So here's those going to work. Each one of the three of us is going to have an opportunity to go through and. Basically give a grade for each team. We're going to go in in draft order. So we'll start with number one aces number two liberty number three fever on down. Just figured that would be the best way to cover this since. That's you know, the order they were put an end every team got a first round pick this season, which doesn't always happen. So we're gonna go with that order starting off with with Las Vegas where each going to give a quick take. You can hear our grades that we give and from there. We will. Give a quick little discussion on one of us will give quick reason why we gave the grade that we gave. So let's start things off. Number one, Las Vegas aces. They only had one pick in the whole draft. They took Jackie young first overall..

"I've wanted to watch it since it's been out, and I've never seen it, and I really liked to because that's like every every list, you look up every everything you try to find on like mill lead sports movies. That's always going to be in the top three or four or five. And it makes me feel like like that's something that really resonated that. I'd like to check out for so I'm gonna throw her other. I love it. I like that. I think it's a solid pick for sure Kylie your three. Man. There's so many ways I wanna go with this one. But I don't want it to drop any further because this is a WNBA podcast the. That included WNBA. Ties that I watched as a kid was a movie called double team on the Disney channel it was about twin sisters Heather and Heidi Burge, and I am actually going to go with Heather Burge as my official pick. As far as you just all you even can I bowl sisters. If you have let's do both. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Heather actually did end up playing for the Sacramento, monarchs and. Heidi played for the sparks and the mystics back at the very beginning of the WNBA. They both did. They both played in the league in it's kind of a biopic as well. But it was it was enough. They took liberties with that. I think it was a it was movie. I like like I like it a lot. I have a very strong idea to Milan picks. And I'm nervous because I'm were possibly gonna be leaving our other league of their own pickoff aboard. But will see she's by is might be a weird one to throw in at third, but it's happening Lola bunny. Welcome to the bracket. That was going to be my four seed. I I was real nervous. Yeah. I don't know. I just decided that's doing with the the best looney. Tune by far at basketball by like, I didn't want her to go in the top half of the bracket. Because I I want there to be like actual acumen athletes. Maybe that makes me a bad person. I'll say this. I would bet not anything I own. But I would bet a significant soem that Lola bunny and WNBA involvement is going to be key to the spaceship sequel. I hope I I really think..

"So that was cool. We couldn't not talk about that. Coming to the episode locale. We have to really awesome segments for its day. First foremost, this might have been my favorite thing. We did last year say and I'm excited again. I thought this was a lot of fun. I'm exciting starting this. I've been looking for to the Sepah sewed since we did it last year. I'm so excited. Exactly. Yeah. No. I love this eight of course is new year. It's twenty nineteen and much like we did last year. Kyle. Why do you say we run through every WNBA team and do some twenty nineteen WNBA resolutions? New Year's resolutions hasn't sound like it. Now right now is that's gonna work. Kyle yet sixteen seems we'll alternate when my one and you'll drop in your resolution now that can be for the whole team that can be for a player that can be for a coach to be a personnel member. It can be for a resident of the city. It doesn't matter. However, you wanna do it is you twenty nineteen resolution connected to the Dallas mayor. Yeah. Listen to me mayor Johann on no his name Johannesen her name. I don't know the mayor's name. How let's kick things off the land dream. What do you got? Man. I this was actually the one that for an odd reason I had a difficult time with because I love the dream. We have we've had coach Colin on. And for me, it boiled down to this. I think that it let's did a fantastic job last year. And I think offensively they're going to be in good hands. With Alex Bentley angel Kaci Tiffany Hayes like they've got some good offense, Elizabeth Williams. Jessica Brillon made first team first team of all one of my trying to say WNBA the although BNB I defensive team. I think that she has the potential this next year to make defensive player of the year. So my easily win for the Atlanta dream is just brilliant wins defensive player of the year. I like it like that a lot really was really. Even at the level. She she effort seem she was such an unspoken part of what made that dream that dream team. Good. And and I love that pick. That's that solid. I think it's possible when you look at at the quality of of defensive players, we have I think she she fits right in. So let the Cal. I'm gonna move right into the LA sparks, and this is one that may not be too out there. If you followed pretty closely, I'm giving the sparks resolution Derek Fisher coach, Derek Fisher. Of course, you know, brought into the new head coach of the sparks. Fish. I know you're listen. I can't flu. I want Derek Fisher to prove that he's here for the sparks not himself. Likely find find a way to make it clear that this is about the team. This is about basketball. And this is not about you trying to save your legacy. This is not about you trying to make name for yourself. And I'll give you a place to start. You can do a lot of things, but I'll give you a place to start get your damn face off all of the team marketing, I know that there's a team that coordinates that you don't make decisions walk into that office and insist that it's about your players that it's about Candice Parker, and it's about you know, Neko McKay, and it's about your actual squad. I I don't I had mixed emotions I was leaning toward liking this higher when it happened. And every time I pull up the sparks website. And I see a schedule with his face a player's face on it. It kinda rose me the wrong way and by kind. I mean, it really rubs me the wrong way. I need fish to prove to find a way to make it clear like that. I'm here for the team. And I'm not here for myself is so far. I don't like what I'm seeing. I like that one. That's a good one. Yeah. So before I get higher on my soapbox..
