A highlight from Growing Unease: Current Administrations Approach to Security and Travel with David Bellavia
"What do you think they're doing with cash, right? What deal do you make where someone says, I'll bring a box of money to you? Yeah. What do you, it's, this is a state sponsor of terrorism. Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests and my fellow citizens. America's comeback now. starts right Welcome back Financial Guys podcast. Mike Speraza in studio live today with a guest in the studio. I haven't had this in a long time. Staff Sergeant medal of honor recipient David Bellavia joining me for about a half hour today. David, thank you for joining us. Thank you for having me. I appreciate it. Absolutely. So I'm going to stick based on your background. I'm going to stick with a lot of military stuff today and I want to start, we'll go all the way back to the beginning of the Joe Biden presidency. The Afghanistan withdrawal, in my opinion, did not go very smoothly. I'm sure many people listening agree. What were your overall thoughts of that withdrawal and how it actually ended up happening? I know we lost, you know, sadly lost 13 soldiers in that, in that withdrawal. People say we went off the wrong air base. People say that we shouldn't have gone out in the middle of the summer. There was a lot of different things there. What were your overall thoughts on that? I think it's like the worst day in American history since Market Garden. Just absolutely. And the reason why it was so difficult was it was totally unnecessary. So let's rewind to the Obama trade, Bull Bergdahl and the three first round draft picks. They get Marshall, they get MacArthur and they get Patton that end up the resurgence of the Taliban. These men not just go back to the enemy, they go back to the battlefield. They're in power when the government falls. You have misinformation coming from the White House that the president of Afghanistan is leaving with billions of dollars on his plane, which wasn't true. And then you leave the equipment, the cash. There's no recovery. We're getting reports of sales of American equipment left in Afghanistan in Southeast Asia. We're moving material across the globe. Our children will fight and pay and have to atone for these miscalculations. Let's talk about that. You being in the military and you knowing that area too, why did they just find it the easiest way out to just say, you know, just leave that billion dollar billions of dollars of equipment there and not think, again, if it was me and I'm speaking that someone that's never been in the military, but if it's me and I'm the president, I'm thinking, OK, I don't want to leave all our weaponry there. I don't want to lose any of my men. Number two. And number three, I want to make sure that everybody knows when and how we're getting out of there. And it just felt like poof. One day they said we're getting out of here. Well, it's because the military didn't make any of those decisions. I mean, look, Millie, it can criticize him. You can criticize Secretary of Defense worthy of criticism. However, none of these individuals are making decisions. This is about NGOs on the ground. This is about the State Department. So you've got Bagram Air Base, the equivalent of JFK. You've got Karzai International Airport, the equivalent of Teterboro. Right. Why would you ever do an exfil out of Karzai International Airport? It makes absolutely no sense. It's tactically unsound. But and then you've got all the ISIS -K. We retaliate from the murder of 13 of our bravest and we drop a bomb on a guy delivering water. He's on our payroll and we kill children on that. Then we take out Borat on a tuk tuk driving around like that wasn't even really what was happening. It's just a den of lies. And Tony Blinken and Jake Sullivan, all the heroes that brought us, you know, the Bergdahl deal, the Iran nuke deal. This is these. They the State Department is running all foreign policy, including what the DOD used to run. Well, that's I was going to say. I mean, I know Biden's the president, but do you blame him at all or is it everybody underneath him that, you know, maybe was giving him bad information? And again, some of these decisions, David, is Biden even involved in some of these decisions? Like, I don't even know anymore. Is he around? Is he paying attention to anything going on? Well, I mean, just from the press conferences, it was apparent he didn't know what was going on. And the great irony is that they actually were predicting that Ukraine was going to be invaded and, you know, no one believed them. So it's like you can't influence your friends. The allies don't trust you. The enemy doesn't respect you. You know, I mean, you've got Ben Rhodes is really proud of this State Department. Susan Rice loves what they're doing. But, you know, again, Americans died. And, you know, and what is the perfect culmination of the adventure in Afghanistan? Looking at your watch at Dover Air Base when bodies are coming home. I mean, nothing could you couldn't ask for a just it's it's a debacle. Yeah. And it's sad that that's that's the leader of our country there. Let's move in. You brought up the Ukraine there. So the Russia Ukraine conflict will get to Zelensky in a minute. He is as we speak in New York City right now. But so Trump's in office. We don't see many of these conflicts or any conflicts actually started under his watch. And then we have the Biden administration come in. And a year later, we have Russia invading Ukraine. Why did this happen and why? Why the timing of February of 2022? So let's go back to when we were fighting ISIS. Trump engaged and destroyed estimated some say 300 members of Wagner forces. But those were Russian nationals. We engaged. We destroyed them. What was the response from Putin? Nothing at all. So what do people in that section of the world, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, what do they respect? They respect power. They respect authority. You're not going to get any respect if you don't engage the enemy when they present themselves. I don't understand the calculus of again, I'm trying hard to figure it out. I don't get it. I don't. You know, Romania and Hungary and Poland, you're letting them unilaterally decide whether or not they want to send reinforcements into Ukraine. That's an act of war. If NATO members engage the enemy, all of NATO is engaged against the enemy. Poland doesn't unilaterally make that decision. Hungary and Romania don't unilaterally make that decision. We can't even articulate what the mission is. And if you look, go to the Institute for the Study of War, there's a plug for them. Check out their overlay from when the battle started, when the war started with Russia. And tell me what success this offensive in Ukraine has produced. I mean, let me ask this question, because I get confused. The answer is nothing. I asked this on Twitter, X, whatever it's called, all the time. What is the end game and how do we get there? Because all I see the answer is, hey, just blank checks. Hey, just write a check. Hey, here's a billion. Hey, here's 20 billion. Hey, here's another 10 billion. I don't actually see a look. I mean, like anything, right? If I write a business plan of what I want to do in 2024, my goal is X. I write down my steps to get X. I don't just write down X and say it's going to happen. I don't really know. And then the answer always is, well, we have to fight. We have to back Ukraine. Okay. But when does that end? Because the Afghanistan war and the war in Iraq lasted 20 years plus, right? And was there a real end to it? I don't know. That's where it gets frustrating for me, Dave, where I'm like, how do we know what the end game is? Do you win or lose? When does that happen? I don't know. I don't know. At least you're thinking about it. And I have fear that our leaders aren't, and that's the problem. So here's what this comes out. You're going to get a negotiated settlement out of Ukraine, right? But you talked about the billions of dollars that we're spending and giving to Ukraine as a blank check. First of all, Zelensky visited Ukrainian soldiers in the United States. Did you know that there were wounded Ukrainian soldiers in the United States? I did not know that. Well, today he visited them. So what's happening there? So that's a cost that no one is putting on the ledger. So now let's look at the blank check that Ukraine is getting. And by the way, I'm pro Ukraine. I want to fight communists all day and night. So let's punch Putin hard in the face. However, you're giving them a blank check and you're giving them munitions. Now here's the problem. We have to replace those munitions. Those munitions were purchased for 20 year global war and terror. And let's be honest, inflation is involved. So what you purchased for $10 is now $17. So you're not just giving them the money. You're giving them the equipment and the munitions that you have to replace yourself at the value of what is valued today. We haven't scratched the surface for the amount of money. CBO absent at the wheel. No one is tracking this. 2024 can't get here fast enough. How does this work, though, when you talk about some of these NATO nations coming together and making decisions, but us not just giving weaponry, giving everything money, whatever we're giving there? Is that not an act of war, too, though, David, at some point? We're continuing to fund Ukraine continuing the war in Ukraine. I mean, that to me seems like we're backing a war. Well, I mean, by the letter of the law and NATO charter, it's not. But here's the problem. It's schizophrenic because we were told that what was an offensive weapon was going to mitigate, you know, that wasn't going to help peace at all. So we went from, I don't know if they should get tracked vehicles to I'm not sure an artillery piece is what they need to high Mars rockets being launched. And let's be honest. I mean, the Ukrainians are I mean, the payload that they're going through, what you would have to have cataclysmic casualty numbers to be able to to the spandex that they're doing on the ground that they need to replace Patriot. If you're going through thirty five Patriot to, you know, missiles, I would expect to at least the C 20 makes that are shot down. They're using them for air artillery. They're using there for indirect fire. I don't know what they're doing, but this is going to end with Don Boss going to Russia. This is going to end with that land chain that Putin wanted through Crimea. And again, our friends in NATO, what are they even doing for Ukraine? What? Look, if you they said that Trump wanted to kill NATO, Biden did it. Right. Biden did it. And now Germany. And so Putin was selling oil at thirty dollars a barrel. What's it at ninety six? Yeah. He's making more money than he did before. And he's financing a war and killing innocent people. You mentioned before, too, and I think this is a good point. Everybody on the left and I'll say the media, the establishment, whoever you want to say, says that if you don't agree with the war in Ukraine, you're like pro Putin. Right. And that's just the most outrageous thing in the world, because I agree with you. I feel for the people of Ukraine. I don't want this for them. I don't want this for innocent people. However, at some point, the world's every every one of the world's problems can't be America's problem when we have a border crisis. And then I think they said yesterday ten thousand people came across. They got, I think, eight thousand of the ten thousand. But you see the numbers day over day. It's a problem. We have crime that's rampant. We have overdoses that are at record numbers. We have we have suicides at record numbers. At some point, we have to maybe just think about ourselves and not everybody else, because if we fall, sadly, I think the world falls at that point. Amen. The thing that I would add is I love the way the Ukraine refugee has been crowbarred into the migrant crisis in the United States. New York leaders from the city to all over Kathy Hochul, the governor of the state of New York, mentioning that, you know, like the Ukrainians in Poland, the the Polish have no intention to keep Ukrainians forever. That's a temporary you know, they're leaving a conflict to return to their country after the conflict is over. Again, this is just we're we're putting a round peg into a square hole and just hammering it away. But but there's no the media. There's you're our destroying military. I go to parents all the time around this country and ask them to give us their sons and daughters to join the military. And the one thing they bring up is Afghanistan. It's not about anything. It's Afghanistan. How are you going to assure us that you're going to maintain your commitment to our son and daughter when you betrayed us in Afghanistan that has lasting effects? And there's not a I'm trying to find a segment of our of our of our nation that's functioning. I don't know what it is. I saw in Chicago, they're going to have municipally owned grocery stores. Maybe that will figure it out there. Yeah, yeah, it's good. Real quick, do you think and we'll finish up on this topic, but do you think that they will we will ever have boots in the ground on Ukraine? I mean, I hope not, because I just don't know what the I mean, look at I'm I'm we're getting ready for China. We're trying to revolutionize everything. I don't know what the what the plan is. I mean, again, if you want to put a base in Ukraine, and you want to make that a sustainment operation going forward, that I here's the point. I don't understand what the inactive ready reserve call up was for. Why are you bringing those troops in the non combat support? Why are they going to Ukraine? What are you building infrastructure there? Here's what I do know. We're talking a minimum of $11 trillion to build Ukraine back. That is cataclysmic amounts of money. There isn't water, electricity, internet, you know, you want to help Ukraine. You're going to Russia is not paying for that if you negotiate a settlement. So I don't know what the plan is. But I hope we never see boots on the ground. I could guess what the plan is. I won't I won't say for sure. But I could guess that we'll be paying a chunk of that. And I do have one last one. So I did interview Colonel Douglas McGregor a few months back. And he talked about he's a real optimist. But he is really very, very bullish on Ukraine. Yes, very, very optimistic. I'm dropping some all over the place. But he brought up some staggering numbers, though. And even if they're half true, it's a problem. The amount of casualties and wounded soldiers on the Ukrainian side that we're not hearing about the media. I don't know if you agree with some of those numbers or not. But he's saying, I mean, it's people are acting as if this is an even war right now. And it's not even close. First of all, McGregor's a stud. I mean, he's an absolute, you know, that we're glad he's on our side. He's a military mind. I don't know if those numbers are accurate. I could tell you they're juxtaposed to almost everything we're hearing from every institution that we have, including a lot of our intel from Germany and England. But again, I don't know what to believe. So when you don't have when you don't have transparency, when you're not holding regular press conferences, when your Pentagon spokesman is now working in the White House and now you're getting a triple spin. I mean, the U .S. Open double backspin. You've gotten so many spins on the narrative. I don't know what to believe. But if he is even close to what is a segment of truth, you know, then look, Ukraine needs an investigation. There's a lot of investigations. We've got to start on Afghanistan. We were promised that by Speaker McCarthy. We need a hot wash on Afghanistan. And then we need to go to what who is oversighting the money that's going to Ukraine. And what have we got for our return on investment? Yeah, I'm not asking for much. Really, all I'm asking for in this conflict is can we just talk about what the end game is? And to your point, can we get an accounting of where the money's going and what's being spent in a real accounting of it? The Iran deal that just happened last week. First off, the fact that that was negotiated and completed on 11th September to me is just the ultimate slap in the face. But you again, you know more about this than I do. We do a five for five trade. OK, I'm going to use sports analogies. We trade five for five. And then we also approved of six billion dollars that apparently wasn't ours, but it was in a fund that now they can release to Iran. How are we winning on that one? Well, first of all, I was hoping that at least it was a digital transfer. The fact that it went as euros in cash through Qatar. And OK, so what happens the 24 hours after that deal is made? We're now getting issues in the West Bank. We're now hearing about issues in Yemen. We've now got Hezbollah that's reinforced. I mean, look, what do you think they're doing with cash? Right. What deal do you make where someone says, I'll bring a box of money to you? What do you it's this is a state sponsor of terrorism. They haven't changed. By the way, their president is now in New York City addressing the United Nations. This guy's killed 6500 of his own people. He admits to it. He killed the students that revolted and wanted democracy when we did nothing. He killed 5000 of his citizens in 1988. He's killed over 300 Americans. There's no accountability whatsoever. I don't understand what it is about Jake Sullivan and Tony Blinken that believe that Iran is a partner. All you've done 10 years ago, they were refining 10 percent of their oil. And now they're a force. Now they're working with Maduro in Venezuela, and they're a huge part of their members of of the international community. They're in good standing there. I don't get it. Does anyone believe that the Iran nuke deal? Look, we got hit with cruise missiles under Trump in Iraq. How did they have those cruise missiles? Those cruise missiles were illegal under the Obama nuke deal. So how are you refurbishing missiles in two years? Do we believe that their centrifuges have stopped? That they won't have a program if they don't have one already? No, I mean, I guess my question, David, is how I mean, I know that you pay a lot of attention to this stuff, but how do people like in the media not ask these questions? Right. I mean, these are legitimate. I mean, we just traded to I put this on my notes here. This is on the heels of trading a WNBA basketball player for the Merchant of Death like six months ago. Right. I mean, and again, I'm glad Americans are coming back to America. I don't want to sound pessimistic on that. That's great news. But we also I mean, this this stuff just seems like I don't care what side of the aisle you're on. It warrants questions, but nobody seems to care. I'm in the world that if you take hostages, we take hostages. You want to exchange people? We'll exchange people. You know, we definitely have the partners in the area to do that. For whatever reason, this administration, they're they're they're contrarians. They're contrarians to you know, they claim Bush and Cheney are their best friends, yet they just go 180 degrees from that doctrine. I don't know what the Biden doctrine is. I don't know what Bidenonomics is either, but I could tell you that they believe that Iran is a partner. Now, here's another thing. Our envoy to Iran not only is no longer the envoy, he doesn't have a security clearance. Does anyone curious at The New York Times as to what happened to the lead negotiator in Iran that is escorted off a bus, taken into American custody, given a job at Yale or Princeton or wherever he's working now? I've never heard of a person going from top secret classified negotiations to no clearance whatsoever and in the custody of American intelligence community. No one cares. No one cares at all. It's fascinating. And again, for me, I mean, these are big decisions that we're making. And correct me if I'm wrong, but it used to be, you know, maybe we did a two for five deal and then we made the six billion. Now we're like, we're giving stuff away and we're on the losing end. Correct me if I'm wrong, but America was never, you know, America losing. It was always America winning, right? America getting the best of deals. At least McDonald's has a five for five. We didn't even get that. You know what this does though? Honest to God, if you're thinking about traveling overseas, things go sideways, cartel, South America, Mexico, wherever you're going, you have a price in your head now. No one in their right mind is going to bring you back whether it's Haiti or wherever you are, you're worth $1 .25 billion. And thugs and scumbags are going to take advantage of that. I mean, that's a great point too. Do you think about leaving the country? I don't know anymore. That's a little bit concerning. I don't care where you're going, right? That's concerning. This one I just had to bring up because it happened two days ago or yesterday. How do we lose a plane? And I heard that's like a third one in the last six weeks that something like this has happened. How are we losing $80 million planes? Well, they're not $80 million anymore because they've got a new engine and all this other stuff. Look, the F -35 program is a complete disaster. You want to talk about why our allies think we're crazy. We sold them a plane. This program has been around since the early 90s and we've got nothing on return for it. So basically two planes are flying in a buddy team. They're doing training and a guy punches out. We don't even know why he punched out, but that plane could have easily hit a building. It didn't, thank God. But the wingman didn't follow where his buddy went. So what is he doing? He just kind of went on and did his own thing. And now the Marine Corps put a Facebook post like a dog is missing. We're expecting the Ukrainian farmers to carry the F -35 out with their tractors. I don't know what the point of it's wild. Look, stop embarrassing us. Just stop humiliating us. That's all I'm asking. Just be the army and the Marine Corps that we know our men and women are capable of being. Get out of their way. This gender garbage, this social experiment nonsense, stop humiliating our military. That's all I ask. Why can we not get the... I mean, I know why we can't get the answer, but I'm asking this to you. But why can't we, at a press conference at the White House, why can't we say, I want to talk to the guy that was in the other plane, or you can tell us the transcript of what happened when that happened. Talk to the guy who jumped out of the plane. Why did you do that? And again, I'm not trying to put our military on the spot, but these are kind of big questions to ask, right? I mean, if I do something in my business, I have to go face the music on that. Why doesn't everybody have to face music for their decisions or why things are happening? I think it's kind of important. Well, you don't want to talk to generals because they're going to tell you the truth and they won't be generals anymore. True. And you don't want to talk to enlisted people. Because look, I mean, let's be honest. How many people are... Is this a merit -based military anymore? Do we have a meritocracy? Are we promoting people based on pronouns? Go figure. When we're putting politics above military strength, accidents happen. We don't know the facts, but the fact that nobody cares about getting to the bottom of it, the day of the Pentagon paper reporters are gone. Yep. Yep. Let's just talk about the 2024 race quick, and then we will wrap up for today. So your thoughts on the Republican primary so far, I'll stay away from the Democratic side till the very end, but your thoughts on, you know, there's obviously Trump who is now in a, has a huge lead. Ron DeSantis seems to be crumbling underneath himself. Vivek Ramaswamy has jumped up in the polls. Nikki Haley's there. Tim Scott's there. A few others that probably aren't going to get a lot of votes. Chris Christie's the anti -Trump candidate. Mike Pence is, I don't know what Mike Pence is. I'm not really sure. Your thoughts about the whole field so far? I mean, look, it's impressive. They've got a deep bench. There's a lot of diversity. I, you know, none of it matters. Trump is the guy. The more you indict him, the more you empower him. You know, I'd like him to work on his communications a little bit better. You know, but if Trump is Trump, Trump is a Frankenstein monster of Barack Obama. As long as you have that faction, you're going to get, you know, Trump is going to be empowered. I just don't want to see Governor Noem anywhere near the White House. And I, if he's going to pick a running mate, you know, it's hard to find an ally here, you know. But it would be nice to find a governor. I don't want to take anyone from the Senate. I don't want to take anyone from the House with the margins that tight. But I mean, the idea that Governor Noem is being floated right now. I mean, I'd rather take North Dakota. Yeah. A little sled there. You know, it's funny you mentioned that because I saw a lot of that this weekend. I mean, can we just, for lack of a better term, keep it in our pants for about a year and then do what you got to do? It really is. I mean, every time you turn, somebody's doing something idiotic, whether it's Boebert. And again, I say this, David, a lot of people know who you are. A lot more know who you are than they'll ever know who I am. But when you go out in public into a movie theater like that, and I'm going to Boebert, not Noem for a second, you're, you're extremely well known. I don't care if it's dark or if it's as light as it is in the studio right now. What are you thinking? I, you know, she's, she's, she's an embarrassment. She is. She's bad, too. Who would have thought that Marjorie Taylor Greene would have been the, the oasis of the Maryland? I mean, seriously, I, again, you're, you're in Congress every day. You're out in public, you're on the job. You know, at least she wasn't wearing a hoodie, you know, that's all in shorts. She was at least dressed for the occasion, but I, it was, it's wildly embarrassing. Vaping, singing, whatever you're doing. Getting groped. Yes. Who is your VP candidate then? Because I think, you know, you have names thrown around. There's, there's, the vague has been thrown around in there. You know, Byron Donald's has been thrown around in there. Carrie Lake has. I don't know. I love Carrie Lake. I just don't know that Trump needs to go with somebody so divisive there. I think he's got to go with somebody that's, that's firm in their beliefs, but also not maybe going to turn off half the country. Well, you know, it's, it's impossible. One of the, one of the problems with making Trump, you know, the, the enemy of the state that the left has done is that you've really made it difficult for him to even put a cabinet together. You know, I mean, what are you going to do with it? You've got a lot of loyalists out there. You know, the vague is, is I think maybe the most intelligent dynamic candidate we've ever seen run for president, but experience does matter. But you know, I love the way he thinks. I love the movement. I don't know if he would even take the job to be honest with it. I don't think he needs it. But you look at a Tim Scott, I think Tim Scott is, you know, there's a whole lot to his message and I think he's, he's got the experience in the Senate, but honestly, you could literally take the Clint Eastwood chair and, and throw it in there as vice president. I'm going with that because this, this from top to bottom, we have to have seismic change in 24. Do you think he would ever choose Kristi Noem at this point with all that now? Yeah, no one knew Mike Pence was a, was a 24 hour story and then he was the vice president candidate. So who knows? I mean, a lot can happen between now and then, but I just, I don't need, you know, let's just pick people on their merit. Let's pick people that are ready to be the president. Imagine this, imagine picking a vice president that can lead the country. If something happens to a 75 year old president, you know, like Kamala Harris. Yeah. Someone like that.

Becky Hammon, Las Vegas Aces coach, denies bullying player over pregnancy
"Las Vegas aces coach Becky hammon denied Wednesday that former aces player D Erika hamby was bullied on her team for being pregnant, saying any ill feelings between the two came from hamby being traded. Hammond, one of the league's marquee figures said at a news conference she did nothing to warrant discipline from the WNBA, which suspended her for two games without pay Tuesday after a months long investigation into hamby's allegations. A former player for the franchise during their days in San Antonio, Hammond guided the aces to their first WNBA title in her inaugural season with the team last year. I'm geffen cool ball.

"Court starting up there in the hoosier state. So Indiana might just turn some heads with a very young, very inexperienced, but a very talented front court that I think a lot of other teams would be jealous of. So excited for Indiana and them taking a Leo Boston. Moving on to my number two pick, Minnesota, pretty crazy that Minnesota actually has the number two pick. They've been a contender for a long time and all of a sudden seem to find themselves right towards the bottom of the pile in this last year. And I wouldn't be surprised if they tried quote unquote try. To find themselves in the lottery again next year because next year's draft class, especially with so many players returning, next year's draft class really seems to be shaping up to be very intriguing. So Minnesota at number two, I have diamond Miller going to Minnesota guard out of Maryland. She's 6 foot three. She's very tall, very long guard. Averaging nearly 20 points per game, 6 and a half rebounds per game in two and a half, 2.8 assists, these are all regular season. This is not taken into account postseason postseason stats, by the way. This is all pre march stuff. This is regular season. Diamond Miller phenomenal player, we actually had her on the show. We had her Andy Boston both on the show. Earlier at the start of the college season. And I'm very excited about what diamond Miller was able to show for this Maryland squad. I think she physically is very ready for the WNBA. She's got good size. She's got very athletic instincts. And she's extremely smart. I really like what I see from diamond Miller. I think she is a really solid number two option. If you're not gonna get Aaliyah Boston, I think Minnesota, you can't go wrong with a player like diamond Miller. I think that she could very easily carve out a nice career for herself in the WNBA. All right, third Dallas wings on the clock now. Dallas, I've got them taking Jordan horston guard out of Tennessee who, you know, I think a lot of people were looking at this Tennessee squad as potentially the one team that could challenge South Carolina in the SEC. And they really did look solid through a lot of the year. Ironically, it wasn't Tennessee or South Carolina that ended up being the SEC team with the title at the end of the season that belonged to LSU. But this Tennessee squad really was held down by horston and the aforementioned Ricky Jackson, who has returned to Tennessee. But Jordan horston very, very good player, very talented, again, really good sized guard. At 6 foot two, 15 points with game 7 rebounds, three and a half assist per game. Really, really solid player. I like what Jordan horston brings and I think she's a good fit in Dallas. I think Dallas right now has a lot of potential at positions across the board at guard at forward center. They've got a lot of potential and outside of a goomba wallet. They don't necessarily have like real star power. And so I think if I was in Dallas shoes, what I'm doing is I am taking I'm taking who I consider the best player available regardless of position because I don't know if there's necessarily a glaring weak spot for Dallas this upcoming season. Because of you've got, they might be a team that could benefit from maybe a solid like forward, but I think a lot of teams could. That being said, I don't think that this class is deep enough at the forward position. I think if your Dallas, you're just going to take best available. And for me, that's Jordan horston at number three. All right, number four, Washington mystics who are a really intriguing team coming into the season. I'm not really sure which way Washington's going to go. If they're going to be in this rebuild phase, if they're going to be in a, we're going to throw all our chips on the table, go all in on this season. Who knows, but Washington, I think, back in our. What's the episode called? The beginning of the year. Oh, your new year's resolutions. That's what it is. Our new year's resolutions episode, we mentioned that Washington needed to make a decision on if they were going to rebuild or if they were going to actually go and try to compete this season. And so I'm really intrigued in what they're going to do. I've got them taking a player who skyrocketed up a lot of people's boards. I had this player, I believe in the top 6, maybe top 7, I can't remember. But I've got them taking Maddie's secrets forward out of Villanova, who averaged nearly 30 points a game for Villanova this season phenomenal player, the only player in the country who was outscoring Caitlin Clark 9.1 rebounds per game as well. This is a really solid player, so I think that Matty seagrass is going to be a great pick. I think that if Washington sees the is probably, you know, has struggled with a lot of injury, prone issues over the last couple of seasons. If they're looking for someone who can come in and be a Dylan type player, you know, kind of a good scoring wing slash forward. I think the secrets is probably better served at the three where Della Don plays more of a four. But I do think that seagrist is the type of scorer that you're going to need if Washington is going to make a run at doing something this season. Maddie seegers might be that key piece that could help them with that. So that's why I've got her going at number four to Washington. All right, number 5, Dallas again, I think is probably just going to be taking the best available here and in my opinion this I was pretty high on this player had them up at number two at the beginning of the season. Felt a little underwhelmed at their performances throughout this season and especially an early exit from the NCAA tournament where this player really struggled to do much. And the Haley Jones out of Stanford. Now, it sounds like I was just really dogging on Hailey Jones. Haley Jones is still a phenomenal basketball player. She's a good sized guard. Who averages nearly 9 rebounds per game at someone who's going to be pretty much the point guard, bringing the ball down the court. For someone at that position to average 9 rebounds per game while throwing in four assists in 13 and a half points per game at Stanford. This is a solid player. I think that she's got a very low floor. But I don't know if she's necessarily got a high ceiling. I think she's probably if you're going to, if you're going to look for someone who can kind of just shore up and be a safe pick, that's where I think Haley Jones probably sits. I think her size athleticism and her history of being able to fill up a stat sheet across the board bodes well for her as she as she's been here. Again, I had her as high as number two, I've dropped her to number 5 and I think Dallas would be happy to pick her up at that spot. Number 6, Atlanta is on the clock. This is their first selection of the draft, I've got Atlanta taking a South Carolina guard, ziya cook. 5 foot 9 ziya cook out of South Carolina. I really, really like ziya cook. She's not necessarily a really tall player.

We have an absolute blast putting content up on there. So go ahead and check it out. But before we get any further, I just want to hop right in to some mock draft. I'm not gonna have this belated intro. Let's just hop right into things. First of all, shout out to the 7 teams that have a first round draft pick. This 2023 WNBA draft. If you are a fan of New York, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Connecticut, or Chicago, I will not be covering any of the picks that you have this draft. You are going to have to wait a while to end up getting a end up getting a pick. Because only 7 of the 12 teams actually have a first round draft pick in 2023, which I think is really, really interesting. All right, a couple notes on this draft overall just overall thoughts on this draft before I hop in and actually go one by one player by player and who I think is going to end up where I have to say that I think because of the new NIL rules and because of some of the other things that are going on with the women's college game and the amount of money that's being put into that, I think it's really interesting. I think we will start seeing more and more players taking 5 years exercising options to stay in school as long as possible because they can make good money. Not every WNBA franchise has the same facilities that a lot of these university have. And so I think we saw that with several players returning back to play and hopefully come out in the 2024 class. There were several players who I obviously had on my board before tyana Jackson, Elizabeth kitley, you know, a lot of players like that that Ricky E Jackson that we're going to be in my first round draft, but obviously have taken their name off of the board and have decided to return to school for another year. Also, one other thing that really sticks out to me about this draft is, in my opinion, this is a very shallow draft as far as Biggs go. There's going to be a few bigs taken, obviously the best player in the country for this draft is going to be a forward, but the vast majority of my picks in the first round are going to be guards. And that simply because I think that that's the best player available. I think if some of these teams are looking to shore up things in the front court, this is a very hard draft to do that. There's only a couple of options that I think are worthy of going in the first round. So if you're wondering why my draft is a little bit guard heavy, I really do think that this is the year for guards. There's not a lot of forwards and centers that I think are going to be key pieces moving forward for WNBA franchises out of this mock draft. Now, I will say anything that I say today a player in the future proves me wrong and they end up absolutely being a breakout player if I'm not super big on them, whatever I am here for that. I famously mentioned that Ariel Atkins was going to be a bust in the WNBA and she has done nothing but prove me absolutely wrong and she's become one of my favorite players for that. So with all of those notes and thoughts out of the way, let's go ahead and hop right in to the actual 2023 WNBA mock draft. Indiana, you're on the clock. Oh wow, that was really fast. It seems like he already had that prepared. Aaliyah Boston. Number one overall forward out of South Carolina back to back defensive player of the year in the country. Last year's player of the year champion in South Carolina, she's 6 foot 5 and does everything on both ends of the court. A lot of people are going to be surprised because her points per game are only 13.3 points per game and she doesn't have a ton of assists or anything. What people don't realize when they see aliyah Boston's numbers is that she has spent the last couple seasons being doubled and oftentimes even triple triple teamed by other teams trying to stop her. If you noticed and watched what Iowa did and was actually very successful at in the women's final four semifinal game is they absolutely suffocated everything around Aaliyah Boston. And they aren't the first team to have tried that, by the way. And so yes, when her points are not as high as other players, that's not an indication that she is and as good as other players. She's been double teamed essentially for two or three years straight now. She is absolutely phenomenal. And when she makes it to the league, you can't double team in the league. It's just not, I mean, you can, but you're leaving open at WNBA level player. So, aliyah Boston, number one overall to Indiana. I think that she could be a great spark for Indiana and now all of a sudden Indiana with Queen egbo and Alyssa Smith and aliyah Boston seemed to have an absolutely phenomenal front court starting up there in the hoosier state. So Indiana might just turn some heads with a very

"One of the best players in the country. You've got Ohio State who's lost to a bunch of good teams, but if they decide to play great, can obviously make a run and Notre-Dame. And boy, I feel for Notre-Dame because I think fully healthy they were going to be in that tier of upper crust teams this year. But you've got 8 sure fire teams that I think can contend for a title this year, which is about as much as you'll ever see. And then the next floor after them all have question marks, but are very fun. So I don't know if that does anything for you. But that gives me a lot of excitement for the upcoming tournament. Obviously there's going to be upsets all over the place because after South Carolina, there's really not that much of a division between the tears of team and the quality of teams you're going to see in this tournament. So big moment for Caitlin Clark, big moment for Iowa. I just want to go on one small I hope this isn't too much of an aside. But there was a little story that came out earlier this week about Caitlyn Clark entertaining the idea of exercising two more years in college because of the COVID year. Rather than making the jump to the WNBA after next season. Obviously everyone's think piece came out after she said that about how the money and the WNBA is in enough to attract talent and is that a problem and blah blah blah. The story that I wish I saw and this is what I don't know if I would necessarily have the gumption to do this, but Caitlin Clark is a baller and maybe she would do this. I don't know anything about Kate and Clark's personality. I've never no one on the show has ever talked to her. But I would go into the 80s office in Iowa with Big Ten trophy in hand and ask what it would take monetarily. Since naming likeness is basically open the floodgates of making sure pairs or players are compensated to stay where they're at. I think there's a real argument for the school going to work to make sure they keep katelyn Clark and other two seasons. Because you've got 19,000 screaming fans at every one of those home games for every day that Caitlyn Clark plays in that uniform. And that's worth something to a school. That's worth something to a program. Schools shell out millions of dollars for coaches every year in hopes that they will win a game or two in March. With Caitlyn Clark at the helm. And I know she's not a one woman team. There's other people on the team. I like, I like them all. I'm just saying she's such a standout for that program. It might be worth the AD going around and lining up some name and likeness deals to keep Clark around to the tune of a lot of money. Because she's worth a lot of money to do that school. This is a school that just paid their football coach $7 million in salary who hasn't won a Big Ten title in 20 years and who's going to cost the school an additional $4 million in being racist. I don't know if you keep up with college football, but if you're keeping up with that story, there's a settlement going on with the coach for creating a hazardous environment for his African American players and it's going to cost the school a lot of money. The point is, schools show out money for less all the time. You have a star player who's putting this program on the map and might lead to the sort of program that can churn out contending teams year after year if you play your cards, right? And that's worth something to you. And I know schools can't just like cut a check, but they can go to work for her to make sure they keep her around. And I think would be wise to do so. Obviously, I would love for to play in the WNBA sooner out of them later because I want to see her play with the best of the best. But it might not be the dumbest thing in the world for her to stick around and terrorize other college teams in the big tent for the next a while. All right. That's my little mini Iowa ran. I hope they kept it short. We move west. Go Portland pilots. I don't think anybody really had this coming. Mainly because they have lost 6 straight games to the number 16 Gonzaga zags, the bulldogs. But the top Gonzaga 64 60, just earlier tonight, as of as of this recording, this is just a couple hours old. So it was a very fun game. It was a game, in fact, of big streaks and scoring stretches. They Portland actually trailed 13 in the third quarter. Made a pretty good comeback. Obviously, they topped a good Gonzaga. I am not a Gonzaga fan. I'm pretty open about my bias against Gonzaga. This is a really good good sag team. They went 28 four over the course of the season. They will still be ranked and still be a pretty good seed going into the bracket. But that's a pretty impressive win and auto auto bid for the Portland pilots. So keep your eyes on them. They did. They forced the issue. This wasn't a, I don't think this was really a choke job like this was just a good Portland defense. They forced 24 turnovers over the course of the game that's not like Gonzaga. Any defense that can do that, I tend to trust on the road. One of the tough things about the bracket is so many teams are on the road in an environment. They're not used to defense travels. It's a cliche, but it's true. So go pilots love that for them. Number 16 Gonzaga. They take the loss but they're going to get in the Breck anyway. So not too much fury. I think from them when all of a sudden done, but speaking of West Coast team coming home with trophies that they didn't expect, we also have to talk about the big 12. I'm sorry, the PAC 12, the fact world. I think the big story over the weekend was probably Washington state. The fact 12 German final did not feature any of the top four seeds in that tournament. I don't know if they were all just looking ahead to next week in the NCAA journey or maybe they're all really close or maybe they're all frauds. I don't know, but Stanford Utah, all the favorites get knocked out. I'm big on Colorado and really big on UCLA. And I know a friend of the show and also women's basketball enthusiast Jade Johnson. He's shout out to Jayden, who actually works in marquette, women's basketball department. He's big on UCLA. And seeing Washington state of all teams take them down in the finals. It was a surprise. I think the PAC 12 is legitimate. I believe in pretty much all of those teams to win a game or two in the coming weeks. So I know there's some doubts as to whether Utah has crashed back down to earth after a surprisingly great year. I don't think so. I think they're legit. They're offensive too good to just faked it for 30 games. There's some doubts about Stanford, Stanford is going to show up when it comes to time. So doubts about Colorado about Arizona, I get it. I think I would still trust them against a lot of teams that are going to be in this field. But absolute shout out to Washington state for securing a bid in just an absolutely brutal tournament back 12 is stacked. So I want to make sure I get the quote right for you. Never would have thought we would be doing that. That was the tournament MVP Charlize liquor walker that's usually usually you ask a tournament MVP, whether they thought they could take down the big dogs and they'd say, oh, in the locker room, we're confident we know we're a good team, but I love the candor. Never, never thought we would be doing that. Good for them. Yeah, just unbelievable run. They beat number ten seated Cal. Number two seeded Utah. Number three seed Colorado and the number 5 seed bruins. That, I mean, there is no easy path to a pack 12 tournament championship, but that is a difficult group to run through. I think most concerning, I'm not really concerned about Stanford, although losses to Utah before the tournament began and then not winning the factual tournament. It does cast a little bit of shadow on this fee the team that beats South Carolina. The South Carolina looks like a Goliath right now.

"A few friendly sports bets. So go on, follow draft queens now wherever you listen to podcasts. As part of the blue wire podcast network. Jordan horston coming in at my number four out of Tennessee. She's a 6 two guard is what she's listed at right now. And now some of these players do kind of move throughout when you have someone who plays sometimes on the wings, some of these players will play out on the wing, at times with different sets from their team. So I'm literally just going off of what their university lists them at right now. Some of them may be better as a point guard or a wing or a power forward. Just across the board on any of these players, I'm simply giving you what their college website lists them at right now. So just that's kind of where we're at with this. Jordan 6 foot two. She's averaging 15.2 points per game. 6.9 rebounds per game and 1.3 assists per game. Jordan horston and Ricky Jackson, these two Tennessee players are very, very good. They have been phenomenal for Tennessee. Tennessee is probably been a little bit underwhelming. They've been a little bit, I guess you could even say disappointing from what a lot of people expected of them at the beginning of the season. That being said, I feel like Jordan horses draft stock has stayed really strong. I think preseason I had her listed at three. And she's only dropped to four, simply because I had diamond Miller who went from my number four all the way up to my number two. So it's not been necessarily the horseman's been bad, but it's simply that I do think diamond Miller has elevated herself up to that number two spot, which obviously just bumps Haley Jones and Jordan horston down to three and four. So horse and solid, again, big, a pretty good sized guard. And that's where I think both all of diamond Miller Haley Jones, Jordan horston, they're all kind of that guard could play anywhere from the one to the three. But they all have pretty decent size. There are 6 one 6 two 6 three, like they're all, they're all pretty good size players that I think are and I think a lot of WNBA executives are looking at a guard that can come in with size that can guard players that have length. And I think that's where these three fit really well, 'cause they're quick enough to and athletic enough to guard down to the one. But they also have a little bit of length and kindergarten out to the two and the three. And I think that on the defensive end, that speaks well to all three of these last players. Ricky and Jackson, I'm already talking about Tennessee, so let's throw her in as well. Forward, she's listed as a forward. She's also 6 two. She has been very consistent as far as her scoring goes for Tennessee. Averaging just shy of 19 points a game, 6 rebounds a game and 1.3 assists. Horston and Jackson really have been kind of the whole show for Tennessee. They've played very well. I think the surrounding pieces for Tennessee have been kind of the weak point for that team this year. But horston and Jackson really have looked strong. In my opinion. And in fact, Jackson, I had pretty far down on my pre season. She was really like a ways a ways down. That she wasn't necessarily one that I was really big on. She is totally changed my mind. I've got her all the way up to number 5 in my mock draft right now. So looking really strong for these two players, I would be surprised if either of these two players drop beyond like the 7 or 8 pick. I could see I could see some other players maybe making a stretch moving up, especially we'll see what happens here in March. But horse did and Jackson both in my opinion are near lottery picks for this WNBA draft. All right, we're going to wrap up kind of the first part one here with who I have at number 6 and this is simply because this player has been as electric as anybody not named Caitlin Clark and honestly, she kind of. She kind of might be even as electric as Caitlin Clark. And that's Maddie secret out of Villanova. I probably have her higher than a lot of people. I've got her at 6. I know some people probably have her quite a bit lower than that. I really like I really like a 6 foot one wing scorer. I don't think that anybody in the WNBA is gonna be upset by someone who can just put up buckets. I mean, we've seen so many players come in and be able to carve out a piece for themselves simply because they can put up points. She can just really take over on the offensive side of the floor. Now, I don't think Matty seagrass or Enrique gumball are comparative players in their style of play in any way. So let me be clear there. But I do think that that could be a piece that Maddie could play in the WNBA. Someone who can shoot who has good vision who moves into space very well and just knows where to be in order to get a good look at the hoop. She leads the country in scoring, beating out even the likes of Caitlyn Clark. She's phenomenal. She's adding a ton of eyes onto Villanova basketball this year. I guess I should give you her number. 29.0 points per game, but that's not all she does. She also an average is 9.1 boards per game. So she works hard, not just for shots, but for rebounds as well. 1.4 assists per game. She's phenomenal. I really like her. She's an exciting player. And maybe it's just some of the bias or recency or just hype bias that we get around players like this every once in a while. But I've got her all the way up at my number 6 spot. Okay, I'm going to go ahead and take a break right here. And just appreciate you guys. We're going to have, I'm going to have part two releasing tomorrow, and so make sure you're listening for that and yeah, it should be good to go. But yeah, go ahead and make sure you're checking out WNBA nation dot com. I will have this mock draft going up within a day or two after these episodes release so that you can hop on and see read through them. I will have a little blurbs about each of them and then these points, kind of their stats along with it. So watch for that, that will be going up on WMA nation dot com. And yeah, I hope you enjoy the conference tournament. March is starting. And it's my favorite month of the entire year. It's my birthday month. I think that I think it was just fitting that I was born in the month of March because I absolutely love this month. I love brackets. I love basketball. And this gets to merge both of those things. It's a happy birthday for me. So there you go. There's part one. Stay tuned for part two tomorrow as I'll be looking at numbers 7 through 12 in the first round as well as a couple honorable mentions to keep your eyes out for. But for WNBA nation, I'm Kyle Haywood, and we got you next time.

And honestly, a big deal, anytime we get to talk with elite basketball minds and that's what you are when you are a WNBA head coach, Steph white's joining the show today. And all of our WNBA listeners, longtime fans know you from your playing career, your coaching career, you clearly grew up in a basketball Mecca of Indiana. Can you just share with us, how did you get into the game? When did you start playing? Yeah, it's always an interesting story because I have a picture when I was first born. My dad was holding me in one hand and a basketball in the other. So it's literally been in my DNA since I was born. But you know, growing up in Indiana, like every family get together, every sporting event, every holiday, winds up in a pickup basketball game. And so it's kind of a birthright when you grow up in the country, especially in the state of Indiana. So true. So true. And so, I mean, we could talk about your accolades. We could talk about everything you accomplished. 1995, Indiana miss basketball, Gatorade national player of the year, USA Today, national player of the year, wade trophy winner. You go on to lead Purdue to a national championship. I think what was it 99, correct me if I'm wrong. Then you went and played I'm right on that. Okay, good. Played 5 years in the league for with the fever. I mean, I just kind of want to say, I mean, I'm glossing over a lot of time here. But, you know, what is some of the most memorable moments from even just high school to your professional career? I mean, clearly, I would imagine you'll talk about that national championship, of course. Yeah, for sure. You know, certainly in winning Indiana miss basketball. You know, when you grow up in the state and you see that Jersey worn by so many amazing players, men and women that played basketball in the state. It's what your goal individual goal is. So winning a nano smash ball was huge. You know, we never won a state championship, but I played in the single class system in Indiana basketball. And I wouldn't change that for the world. I don't remember how many games we won. I think we lost 9 total games in my whole high school career. And four of those were to schools that eventually went on to the final four. And competing for state championships. So I really enjoyed that high school experience of playing in a one class system. I know often folks don't agree with that, but I certainly loved it. You know, and then being able to go to college and be in a situation to win Big Ten championships and the national championship obviously is just the highlight of my career. Not just because we won a national championship, but because of how it happened, I played for three coaches in four years. We had complete roster turnover after my freshman year, you know, yukari figs, my teammate and great friend. We didn't really know what was going to happen with our career after that happened. And for us to be playing for and winning a national championship three years later, it was just really special. And it was special how it happened. It was special with the group that we were able to do it with. It was special because when we came to Purdue, that was our goal to win a national championship. And so that will always be a highlight of my life because of the life experience that it taught me in a highlight of my career from a basketball standpoint. And then certainly being able to wear the Indiana fever uniform to be able to culminate all three levels for me of basketball in my home state. And to be a part of the first WNBA championship for the Indiana fever. You know, I was missing that state championship, but getting an WNBA championship and getting a collegiate championship in my home state was really special. Well, we didn't even plan this, but just hearing you talk through this, it made me think coming up in such a basketball centric place. But not necessarily that had, I mean, the W wasn't always around. What was that like growing up, you know, and then watching the W kind of, I wouldn't say a peer out of nowhere, but I would assume when you were a little kid, you weren't dreaming of the W because it wasn't around. Right. And we didn't have social media at the time, right? The Internet wasn't even available then, so it kind of did appear out of nowhere for us. It was, it was just one of those things where you think you're going to go, you're going to play college basketball and then life is going to be over unless you decide to go overseas. And at the time, that wasn't something that I had really wanted to do. So playing in college was the ultimate goal. And then when I got to college, the ABL was around and for the young listeners who don't remember the ABO that was one of the professional leagues that was in my lifetime before the WNBA. Of course, there were multiple other leagues that tried to start up that just didn't pan out. And the ABO was another one of those leagues. I mean, some of the best players to ever play the game played in the ABL. And I think it was, I don't know, year two, three, something like that of the ABL, then the WNBA, was coming to fruition. I may have been a sophomore in college, I think when it first started. And so I think the option to potentially play after college was finally there. And that was an exciting time. No, there were a lot of question marks. How was it going to last? Could it really get off the ground? What was it going to look like? There were some exciting cities. And it was just a really exciting time for me. And then when I graduated college, that was the year that the ABO folded, so both of the leagues came together. I mean, for me, I was in the same draft. And drafted to the same team, as dawn staley, and I played my first year, my rookie year in Charlotte. Dawn was the first pick for Charlotte in that draft. I was the second pick for Charlotte in that draft. And, you know, you walk into training camp and your teammates with dawn staley and Tracy Reed and Vicki bullet and Ronda mapp and Andre stenson. I mean, some of the greatest college players that I grew up watching was really pretty incredible. Okay, I gotta, oh my gosh, there's so many things I want to talk about right now. Okay, I'm gonna bring it back to Indiana miss basketball. Because it's interesting. I grew up in Illinois, and it

The House Passes the Respect for Marriage Act
"The marriage act. The respect for marriage act. That is now passed a bunch of cowards and now going into Joe Biden's desk where he will stumble over there and scribble something on a piece of paper to make it into effect. This is my whole thing here. Marriage between two men is not a marriage. That's not marriage. That's called a relationship. And in America, you can have a relationship if you want to. You can do whatever you want to do. But that's not marriage. You can call it whatever you want to call it, but it's not marriage. Marriage is between a man and a woman. And, you know, it bothers me that we just go down and slippery slope. The further we go, the further into the battery we get. Just like a marriage between 30 year old and a 16 year old ain't a marriage. That's not marriage. You can't marry a minor. In some cases, they let people marry minus. But generally speaking, you can't marry a minor. You can't marry a kid. Some things, I think should be preserved in a conservative manner. Because this is what's going to happen. When they get out here and they go marriage between two men is a law. What's going to happen if they go to your church and they say, I want you to marry me and my husband. And according to the Bible, two men shall not be together. Especially not in marriage, according to the Bible. Don't get mad at me. I didn't write the Bible.

Candace Owens' Court Battle Is Officially Over

For winning that court case against fraudulent fake black Republican candidate Kimberly klacik. Kimberly klacik sued Candace Owens for $20 million because Candace Owens exposed to her regarding her FEC reports. And I said, exposed her meaning she just asked the questions, why are you spending this distance and as a politician because according to your FEC reports, this seems suspicious. Instead of coming back and saying, hey, let me explain these things. Let's have a conversation. Let me explain them or whatever. You don't have to have a conversation. She made up all these lies said Candace Owens made up stuff about her and she sued her for $20 million. But ladies and gentlemen, as of recently, I think it was yesterday came out that Kimberly klacik lost the lawsuit. It was a frivolous lawsuit. And she knew she was wrong. And she ended up sitting with Candace and having to pay her a $115,000. Micah Parsons Apologizes After Viral Tweets About Brittney Griner
"The NFL linebacker, mister Parsons, who was a tremendous football player, mind you. But I want to go back over to stuff that he said because in my mind, I'm thinking, why did he apologize? And then it's like, everybody's apology is dead. I communicated with somebody that I respect. Why can't you communicate with somebody respect, but still disagree with them? I don't think he should have apologized for this. And let me read his tweets again. He said, wait, no. We left the marine. And then he goes on to write, we still not voting for you. It's what parson said in a tweet for Joe Biden. Because I believe he had the wisdom to say, we got her, but didn't get a marine. You're doing this for votes. From black people. This is one of them cares you can dangle over the black man head and say, look what we did for y'all. Now we get y'all votes for another 20 years. But Parsons in my opinion had an educated opinion about it. And he made a statement that I believe that is a sentiment of many people in this country. But then, somebody, some woke black dude, veteran, somebody on this team, or somebody stupid, I wouldn't say stupid, but somebody who's who I think is less bold about the statements that they make, must've told him he better apologize or else. He said I just spoke, this is the tweet he wrote after he deleted his other tweets. Just spoke to some people that I respect and trust, I should have been more educated on the topic and not tweeted out of emotion for my family and others who have served. For that I apologize, he goes on to say, also, if what I've been told about also, if what I'm told about the attempts to bring the marine home are true, then the best outcome was accomplished. I pray mister Whelan comes home, but I'm extremely happy for Britney and our family. I am not too prideful to admit when I made a mistake. I respect what he said, but you didn't make a mistake. Another which is which is why that game against each other epic. They're there to lose these games there. Two points separated from each other on my rankings. By the way that super game was like immediately following the game when she went off and hit a huge shot with like three seconds left click and then was rolling into the night the night only editor. She walked into that game five undefeated in doer. Di scenarios like that brokers streak. Golly that that whole series was the best thirteen or fourteen zero in elimination games. Like slick singling. She came into the league at twenty. Two two years after sue bird and phoenix has wisely. Never let her go her go like she has. She's never going to play another uniform. Jeez phoenix's like she's their season starts. She's gonna get the statue like these like these. These players just talk about have defined two decades of wnba basketball like. I'm so glad that we got into this before. Like having looked back on. Oh we kind of miss. That era is an era. And it's yeah you'd for years from now it's going to be referred to so much as like. Oh that's when you know like eighty percent of the league when those two were playing and now we're in this weird new future whether out of the league that's going to be very different in a couple of seasons i right i yeah i i don't even know where to start on this one other to say like a robbery that she has only one. Mvp probably we talk about the all time. Points score yes. We don't talk about her being fifth in assists and we should yes she registers in the top actually led the league in assists she registers and talk twenty five steals and blocks which is so terachi of her to be like. Yeah there's something about it. That's like typical sarah her. Yeah i was gonna say she's gotta be. She might have double the amount of technical as the second she played on find. It has to be. I really wanna know that stat is possibly one of the most inspiring stories in this league. Not necessarily because i would call it some sort of underdog story or anything like that but simply to say she's my favorite sports example of it. Just do it your way. There's something so comforting years the thing even as a person who has a podcast about the wnba. I've constantly paranoid and having to deal with idiot. Trolls and nose picking in cells. I'm a white male. i'm nothing she doesn't have to think about. There's something about it just to be like she doesn't care. Why do i care so much. These saying i don't. We haven't heard anything yet that i'm aware of of any sands game events. If there's a three pointer if three point contest skills challenge i stand by saying we should have another wnba versus tedious. Three on three. So maybe that's a great way to you. Also some of the snubs in his two has also mentioned in our chat that. Maybe just a game of dodgeball. Just 'cause line on everybody would wanna watch that. Here's something that i learned about copper. As as you were mentioning there was kind of surprised you. She leads chicago this year in scoring and minutes and just because of the inconsistencies is. That's true and i watched almost every sky game and she's played. Well it's just weird right. It just didn't register. As soon as i saw i went okay. It wasn't like i refuted it. Or i thought it was bad. I think it's great. I just never even came to mind. It's this weird. She when you think of the sky roster you think of well sloot makes that team go or candace parker like they lost seven without her. They won eight With like candace. Parker makes that team go but click operas like that utility player. That i i know sky fans knew all along. She's a fan. Favourite sky fans are all about her And maybe some of that is because maybe the league's underrating or a little bit. I don't like throwing that word around. Because people really liked to to say like criminally underrated about players that have like one criminally rating people high enough. But i really do you know like maybe people are. Maybe coming away from the all star game with some clear copper. Facetime is going to be good for the league. Because she's been the league six years. And i think she's been been key cog bear so it's gonna be fun. Make sided glad we got the all star talk there. We had team. Usa talk on a previous episode. Now got all star talk got fever tooth corner and we got the past. Week of games st yes. Do you wanna do weekend games. Let's talk getting games but since we're talking team usa in we're also talking us. We're going for fourth of july weekend. There's no better time for me to get this out now. And i'm going to keep this short as i can. What's happening carry these. I've talked about this on the pod. Before i love basketball. My favorite sport is track and field coach dragging field for a little bit. When i was was in my lear. College my lear by early college years It's one of my favorite things. We were all extremely excited to see this. You know to to see new young and exciting blood in the world of us track and to see richardson have to go through this. When it's so obvious that this rule is outdated and ill advised and you can say whatever you want about. You knew the rules. He broke the rules. Whatever this was someone who is trying to cope after finding out that they lost their mom and then go run in the olympic trials. For the first time. The fact that we're going to be robbed of that is absolutely ridiculous. I'm the doping situation. When it comes to the olympics to o is so inconsistent and immoral that it has ruined so much energy that i have to enjoy the olympics anymore. This is something that every four to two years. I've learned to look forward to. And i feel like every olympics. Now there's some moral issue. That's pulling that away from me. The fact that we in sochi and in korea that the the you know altogether made those hard to watch in this time looking at this going like we don't know right now if tokyo this is even a smart move because tokyo japan does not look very good when it comes to to covert issues will see how safe that's going to be but there's a lot of people lobbying for why the game still shouldn't happen in. I see that point but then on top of that. We're seeing garbage like this. It's just it's just stupid. And that's on top of all of the racial motivations that people have been citing. That are very true as well. It's ridiculous this is someone who could put women's track and field on the map and you're selling her short on on a damn. It's a technicality. Just become you yeah. it's dumb. It's hard because if anything i could say is already been said. It's just a it's garbage. We're here to talk basketball. And i'm i knew to cut myself short because there would be worse words for me to say on mike. I'm just pissed off made it. It's it's it's we're to what three weeks short of of the start of the olympics. And i really don't look i'm not looking forward to it outside of probably team. Usa Because stuff like this always seems to be reset at the worst time. Just say i'm trying to figure out how to well. I i know the connection to the wnba wnba has been very a leader in in the basically the the socially conscious aspect of of the athletics platform They've stood for black lives matter and brianna taylor. I'm so many things last year in the wobble season and they continue the everything to do with the atlanta dream and the reelection and things like that in georgia Just f- way i. I don't know if you saw this. Already steve The little cherry on top is the. Ioc has Has come out and said they welcome demonstrations and protests and things of that nature from their athletes and they want to be a platform for that as long as they don't do it during the events or on the podium or basically any time that the cameras are on. That's a really great way to do. Just that isn't it. Yeah no one hundred percent. That's going to happen. But they basically have come under like listen everyone. This is a new flag polar just installed in the school. This is a stack of some of my boxer brief underwear that just got washed. I need to run to the grocery store. It'll be back. No-one do anything like they basically came out and said you. Can you can have demonstrations but like don't do it when people are watching so so you base honestly you can be to logan as long as you speak in the manner that we need you to. Yeah yeah exactly. So olympics are really knocking down park. We're still gonna watch i love. I love the olympics. I'm going to watch. And i'm gonna cheer for a country which is getting to this point where it's like abolish the olympics in the ncwa. Like today i probably go to sleep. Fine it's just like that's where we're at it sucks. It sucks but we can games games. I knew i was going to go along on that very sorry. Let's talk weekend games. We've got some cool fourth of july match ups or for the july weekend matchups up and on the run we talked. We were recording this on friday. The second so those games will probably be done dusted by the time that you listen to this but but i'm sure they were fantastic. We do have a commissioner's cup. Matchup mystics liberty has networks cow. That'll be a fun. One son fever will be playing at one eastern Through the wnba. At you've got a facebook matchup at ten pm eastern links mercury. Any any standouts. There you want to call out. Logan actually both Kind of important games..

"Going out of that team or their span and the answer. What you just said was a huge nell to like a huge death-knell to the comments. This is a team that when four titles for years they were the first dynasty in this league history and at some point the attention at taken away from them and then the slip started to happen in that it got to a point where it was hard to recover from. And what's encouraging. If you're liberty fan i understand. They started hot and they're leveling out but there's so much evidence that this team is on. Its way yeah. And that's encouraging they're going to be great. I think if you're sparks fan right now you should feel good that two to three years down the line. There's something being made their in their new era. It may not happen now. you feel pretty good about. There's pieces that can easily come together. And it's it's going to become something big time. This storm not three or four years ago. were Fledgling eight seed that seemed to get popped out at the end of every year. If you go just a couple years behind that sue bird was ready to bolt to phoenix. And they made the moves. They shared a vision and they became a team that should have just completed. Three people. got two out of three. If you make the right moves you can turn things around but you can at least make it clear like the results speak for themselves. But you can't hide if you're doing nothing and right now. A constant frustration every free agency draft period trades anything when it comes to to buzzer and league is why why haven't heard anything out of indiana. Like why are we trying to busting down. I get people run their businesses differently but people need to see that wheels are moving because right now it just kind of feels like the. It's like they're almost living in a way. The stereotype people sometimes can give wnba franchise which is which is owned by a pacers style organization. That isn't hands are in their pocket you want to see. And they're not. They're not spending the money and they're not making moves and pushing the chips into the center of the table to be good. This is this is some truth corner stuff. I didn't give us the truth. Drop but out. This is the truth. this is Basically an intervention for the fever organization for what it's worth. We all want the fever to succeed. I i know everybody on the show in the chat before every season we argue amongst ourselves like can we justify you'll being open for the fever this year. we have fans that. Listen to this show We we tend to be a pretty optimistic positive. Show were rooting for all the players in the league to be successful But the ownership and in the front office. These put those players in a position to succeed. It's criminal that kelsey mitchell and tear mccowan. Don't have more support to be great because we're literally halfway through the season than you have one win. It's it's it's just maddening and it's one of those things where you know if you're fever fan and and you're upset you always live at rights. But now what's that c i mean. Does the the pride points. Discussion stands in a way of. Can you come out of an olympic break with some energy and at least show that you're putting in that effort in nc. Were that takes you because that can go a long way down the road. And i hope that there's something in place there if not you worry that the repercussions here are bigger than just a team record. That all said that's too much darker discussion than i think. Either of us were accepting. It's worth that. I don't know what else will will have is the rest of the year we're going to be talking about the playoff pine and we're gonna be talking about the teams at the top and at some point we do need to address like there's one team that's already just out of the running everybody else. Those ten eleven Nine ten eleven spots changes almost daily. Everybody's in the running I think there are four or five teams at the top that are contenders for championship. And then another four or five teams that are all trying to ruin their day And then there's the fever five five through eleven right our within two games of each other. Yeah so there's so much weird movement that could be happening in those stretches and that's what makes this just that much sadder of Like this could easily be in the discussion and to use this as a good transition points next wanted to hit. 'cause wanted to hit on this really quick. Even though it's in a few days the news come out that the the one moment of Brevity that had thinking about the fever was on twitter. The other day when the fever account just tweeted the. I am sad gifts because the fever's presently don't have any also representatives this year and i don't know that that's entirely chocking given the fact that a lot of teams are given several but like this kind of rolls into the reveal of the rosters and obviously it's a different case here because the this isn't a west store like a team asia versus team whomever this is twa wnba. An team usa playing off. Now t. in team. Usa players were able to receive also affiliation but still be playing continuous. Say so that opened up a lot of other spots on the all star so this is a unique one where we would have seen maybe a few more names potentially in the mix it involved and things like that but i mean we've talked about this. There were many surprises. There were some heavy snubs. There was a lot to hit their We talked Brought up indiana. One shocking team sparks. Don't have a player involved in this mix. Yeah would you would assume nikko mckay at some point but you know but it interesting to see that that was team at that sort of gets data that piece and then but but most teams i wanna say between both rosters at least have some level of affiliation. I won't go down the list. People have probably had a couple of days to figure out what this roster looks like feels like are their immediate surprises for who made the roster or who did not make the roster yet. My biggest surprises are are probably snubs. I ate i always. I don't want to be negative. I don't want to be like these players. Don't deserve to be here because israel deserving players You know we knew. A couple of them are obvious. We knew bonner can bauge jonquil jones. Laney like we were pretty sure about all of that right But no no. Maybe maybe didn't get in. I think courtney williams probably took that that guard spot away i do. I did have courtney. Williams on my ballot. I am glad that she got in. But maybe i think was deserving satu sabally got an all star nod which i think was a surprise to some people I it was a surprise to me. I didn't really consider her For my ballot. And i feel like twelve spots is plenty especially with twelve others going to team. Usa that you'll we should have gotten all the stars in and neck and not being on either of these teams is pretty tragic in my opinion. Yeah i think that's the one case. Where interestingly enough people were. Even lobbying don't voter industry. She didn't make team usa. I understand that she only played seven games up to this point. She was playing at a really solid level. And i'm going to be honest to at the end of the day Narrative drives these types of events. We've all watched a very boring all star game. That was just kind of a soft pickup game. And i sort of in the back of my head enjoyed the idea of you know what let it be. Revenge game for neka and candidates. Why not even in the back of my head. I said that on the pot a little while ago like that like you know. I think there was some added decent spice to it. Which for me made things more intriguing to show up dressed for the game and just to get a piece of team usa. Like i'm charging out of the tunnel in the middle of a quarter. Just be like. I'm i'm suiting up and i'm going in now like and exactly but you know the one thing that nicotine is just..

"I realize we're about fifteen total games into sabrina 's career right now. I'm not worried. Like i think it's fine. I think this is going to be a little blip on. You'll the documentary that they make about her career sunday after he's played eighteen seasons in the league. It's going fine right now. There's some other players here. We got to give quick shower. Obviously leaning has been playing we've been given tons of love to laney across the board and everybody is in its well-deserved michaela onion a is playing really really solid basketball as a rookie and as a rookie komen asking to you know you're asking a rookie to to put in a lot of minutes against the las vegas aces who played ryobi. One of the james. Maybe one of the best games of basketball that i've seen in the wnba in several seasons. This was one of the games i've ever seen in the wnba since we started covering the league five years ago. This is a a reason for breezy points to be down. Necessarily i think that's more due to injury. Her missing teammates but like let's talk about the liberties record over the last four games in general. They've played vegas vegas connecticut in three of those games. Maybe we should call it a little bit on like. Oh they're frauds. They're not for real Really enjoy on wears is done this year. Sorry i cut you off in the middle of that. She did have a really a decent game she. She had a good game against vegas. This time around but it didn't matter is the point. Totals were out of control. But i've enjoyed both her and dvd's play this year. The rookies the new york picked up this year. Probably my favorite pairing any rookies. Yeah.

"Some of the best ways that we've experienced recently is getting on twitch stream what we record these episodes and pouring in your thoughts and i've loved reviewing what people are thinking. Add like in real time as we talk about each of these topics Asking questions getting stuff in our mailbag mailbag segment. But like we do if people are asking a stuff and they wanna talk about it and so if you want your mount rushmore your goat any of those discussions to be heard we absolutely want here and twitches this way to do that in real time. You can obviously tweet at us at wnba nation pod and interact with heirs. Well for a lot of our pod family comes from and it's really it's as it's really fine like positive community. I've kind of stepped away from a lot of sports twitter over the last year or so because some of it can be pretty toxic. But w twitter's great man like everybody kind of has their own brand and you learn to love like the different. I don't know we've got a lot of different friend accounts on there and so not only interact with us but if you want to be a part of that. Larger conversation is a great place to be and then on top of that we recently read some five star reviews on our show. And we'd love to do that again. If you leave a five star reviews on our podcast page we will read it on the air and we will give you praise we will maybe cry tears of joy that helps us get found. There have been at minimum two different reviews that have come through. That have actually brought tears to our is we like. He's not joking when he says it's important like it's important to us as the league grows at people are able to find us in kind of access. These texts discussions. I think it helps. People learn for instance. Today's episode like you learn who some of these names are from early. Wnba days you learn. Who's good right now. You you learn to watch for for awards and it kinda helps you be just a more informed viewer of the league or the want more people to have that but it also just makes us feel good like the the review that will always remember his. There's a there's a girl that was thinking about not playing basketball anymore Maybe like middle school or high school age and decided to continue to play because she realized that was an option for her. And that's kinda what this is all about. We got a new league specifically for the purpose of like putting more is on the league and normalizing coverage for a sport. That wasn't getting enough. And the more coverage that gets the more people stick to it and play it in like illegal become better and more talented and we'll get more teams and everything everything kind of in a nice like cycle builds on itself as the coverage grows. The league grows and we get to be part of that and if you review us the more people can define us they can be part of that song so those are the ways you can interact with us. I hope i touched on a mall. Kyle organic o'clock in under an hour. His late lean excellent. Thanks for doing that. Quick rundown just a short again everybody hanging out with in the chat We're gonna go ahead and wrap it up there. Logan great episode appreciate you just. I mean we're all over the board tonight but it's so fun it just fun talking just wnba basketball right at the beginning of the season here. We're not quite to the halfway point. So we're We're still hitting some really good storylines and.

"Out against other teams in the league because they got to test their their medal against reigning champion. If they're the other kind of on a little bit of a mini streak found self. I think the back to back games playing the little mini series like that. I think it helps the teams that are trying to develop players and have a punch above their weight class and to me that makes more games close and it gives you more overtimes and it gives you more game winners and we've already seen that statistically we've seen that in the first third of the seasons of our i agree. I you pretty much hit every point that i like that i was going to make so well then cake one last question. Logan this is coming for me and those of you on on the stream can see what i'm holding up right here. I've got a goat shirt on right now. So i've got a question. Logan special day as we record this june eleventh and we've got to players with birthdays today. That are definitely in the discussion for the greatest of all time in the wnba. And that's diana taurasi and my amore which really leaves me begging the question. Logan we're at twenty five years in the wnba. And i think we'll probably have a an off season like episode where we really really break this down and maybe have a full like episode on this but just off the top of your head. I want you to tell me. Who are you going to put on your mount rushmore. And who you say is the goat. Okay so i was ready for a ladder. Ready for group ready for go. I'm curious. i'm curious well. Obviously you've got one then if you know what you're who you go to does it like i'm asking. Threes mount rushmore. Let's say that we put up a twitter poll right. Jer put up a twitter poll. Who are the four players that you're gonna put in and say. Hey vote out of these four. Who goes fantasy end. that's fair. i think they're certainly which could actually be a different question than who's on your mount rushmore. Yeah yeah i like. I think i've said before like drowsy while not my personal greatest all time quite yet. I know her career is like like mostly behind her. Now like everything she does now is basically frosting but i i remember talking about taurasi on the phoenix. Preseason preview episode. And saying if she's not at least on your rushmore are in your discussion than giannis to be like anytime you talk about like like if someone says drowsy like you kind of say like okay. Obviously that name is gonna come up. I a prefacing things with that. Because i'm trying to work. I think i have my answer now. And for me it swoops. I think my greatest of all times And it's i mean there's so many Comparable resumes but to me. There's nothing that compares to four time. Wnba champion three time. Mvp and three time defensive player of the year. That's the separator for me. I know other issues got three gold medals. I know other people have four. I know there are now like there are a couple other players that have gotten four rings at x. sue bird now in that elite company where she's got four But i i really think it swoops because of the defensive player of the year awards and three time mvp. I think that's that's the cut above the rest. That to me is a differentiator. But you know what. I be convinced otherwise if if someone is a really compelling argument for generosity for to make a catching so i think is also on my rushmore. I could really. i could be swayed. I i feel confident in my reasoning. But i know things out there that i'm missing still I i want to hear your goat. I before i complete my rushmore for you to see the right track here so you sing swoops as you go. I'm taking swoops. Dt on your rushmore. i said i think. Dt's there. i. I guess i can go ahead and give it to you i got. Dt there to be catching their and the spot is stuff. Because i it's hard for me to take modern players. Yeah it's it's hard to take players that are slack. Obviously when all of a sudden done maybe st louis maybe asia you know maybe things like maybe della donne. yeah like. there's yeah but but like sue bird is like right in the middle of that conversation. she's got four gold medals. She's got four titles she could take that last spot. I think if. I think i'm gonna give it to coup strictly because it's like when i think of mount rushmore. I think of former players not currently active players. It's such an arbitrary different's and i apologize to sue bird and her fans hurt for like i wanna put her on. I was like bird out terachi on still right. Yea well. I did it in the wrong order but i think it's i think.

"With all of you tonight tomorrow or not tomorrow today this morning whenever you happen to be listening to this episode. I'm kyle haywood. And i am really excited about. Tonight's show we're recording alive on twitch. We've got a bunch of people hopping in the chat but who i will be chatting with on. Tonight's episode is my good friend and downstairs neighbor. Logan jones up what's up. We're i mean we're in the thick of it man. Yeah all all year long. Like do the season's gonna start in. The season starts like out so early so really and then like soon. We'll be like it's getting late getting late but right now. Now is the time like mrs the season we are in it. This is the best part of the season in my opinion. Like i know. Everybody loves like the last playoff. Push or you love the playoffs. And i agree it's fun. This part of the season is so much fun for me. Because there's this whole stretch of like your your past like the first initial games. That everybody like hyper analyzes and you get into this mode of like. This is when a lot of people kind of tune out a little bit. This is when. I love it because this is when teams are really out. Okay what are we going to do. Long-term in the season so this like the first like third. I love tuning in because you start to really get a good idea of where teams are and i think if you can start you trajectory now. That's yeah trajectory like now moving forward. What's really going to set the tone for the rest for playoff seeding and whatnot. Because you figure out you know who your major opponents are you know who you're gonna realize the liberty or a lot better than you then people were saying and dallas and maybe chicago's more susceptible to to to elle's than than we previously thought but regardless it's a fun time of year and it's a fun time of the season Hey before i forget. I have a question right out the gate and this isn't even a question. This is just asking twitter responses. We're looking to do a little getting out and traveling. My wife and i both been vaccinated and we're we missed going out and attending wnba some wnba games last season with the with the bubble and everything and i know all of you did as well but i want to petition everyone. Who's listening to the episode to hit us up on twitter. Hit up wnba nation. And i want you to let me know where we should go as a family to go see wnba game. You have to be smart like for example like i know las vegas right. Now has restriction where only season ticket holders are are are getting like access into the games. So you gotta like. I know they've got that. So if you're team allows single game tickets or if you can hook it up with some single game tickets. Or i don't know we'll try and see what we can do but regardless we're looking to take a little family trip i want you to let me know. Which team should we come see. And if so are you gonna come hang out of the game with us is. That'd be super debt. Looking says muncie in the every.

"Give some love up to minnesota. Lynx real quick lakesha clarendon got signed with minnesota and as soon as that happened they have not lost a game. When when the clarendon was signed to minnesota everybody you know was a lot of reactions. Oh you there in all star level player and they've done a phenomenal job ever. Since arriving in minnesota claritin has been plus eighteen plus Where are we Plus eighteen plus eleven and then Dead even that's where they've been in the minnesota lynx games that they've played in and minnesota was sliding and win. Clarendon showed up all of a sudden. There's just an impact that they have on the floor. That's different compared to so many other other players out there that that when clarens out there there's just this things seemed to be flowing better for four minnesota when they're on the floor and i think that's that's been a huge huge element to what the success that we've seen out of minnesota and minnesota just figured it out you know they had one close game against atlanta but. Yeah they're wins. They beat the connecticut sun as their first win of the season. They beat the connecticut sun. And then they got back to back wins against atlanta. And they're up currently as we're recording this. They're up on or excuse me no. They're they're down four but they're playing the mystics mystics. Pretty close and they've got a couple teams ahead of them. They've got the sparks winnable game chicago. Winnable game dallas dallas atlanta like their next one two three four five games After the mystics tonight are very winnable games before they start playing teams like Las vegas and phoenix if they go ahead and win. Let's say four of the next five. I really like where minister where minnesota could be you know if they're sitting at seven and five. They're they're going to be up in the upper echelon of the and i think that that's the reality of where will likely see minnesota here soon. So yeah i'm feeling a little bit like we jumped the gun putting up in putting them in the top three or four in our preseason predictions. But i don't think the beginning of the season was their truth. No the they were missing what we always not only did. They not have signed Clear they were missing collier for a large out of that too. Yeah a perennial fringe. Mvp candidate and one of the best defensive players in the league so that makes a difference it also we said this at the top of the show i think ten to twelve games is enough of a sample size to start drawing conclusions for a team. They they in the mystics have played the fewest games so far. It's why they're playing right now. his combination. It's a four point game around halftime as as of this recording. But they they've only played seven games. And they lost the first four to close to phoenix. And then the hot start new york liberty and in seattle seattle so tough early seasons leading because it was a tough schedule and they didn't have one of their most important players and suddenly against connecticut. Overtime win atlanta close win in the net. Lanta twenty point below canal close when against the mystic. So they've got some teams coming up. That i absolutely think are beatable. You've got the sparks in chicago after this and then a doubleheader at dallas dallas c'mon has been really pesky this year But you expect the youth of dallas to to not always perform leading the clutch. We're going to talk about the dallas wings in a minute actually have a lot of good things to say about dallas But that's you know. I think they're turning things around at exactly the right time like if if chicago is a sinking ship. I think i think minnesota voided Avoided the worst of the storm and is kind of Writing things in time to have a really good shot at a decent playoff berth. By the end of the year they also end their year with a game against the sparks to against the mystics. Three against the fever Teams that i think by. Then we'll expect them to beat so they could be one of those candidates for going five hundred most of the year and then finishing really strong. So i i like them a lot I'm glad that that came out in. She called that team out And there there aren't a lot of coaches in the league. That are willing to publicly do that. I'm sure in the locker room. It happens more than we think But if you if you remember the quote it was something like that. That's one of the worst defensive performances in my tenure as a coach and she her as a coach is a decade and the next game. they beat The like the five in connecticut sun handed their. I lost so she knows how to she goes out to coach. Kyle that's the that's the big takeaway from here We only have a few minutes left to this episode. We wanted to give you the basic overview of who hot and. He's not right now in the in the league. I don't like that phrase it that way. But that's essentially what this is but we left a little bit of time for the biggest surprises and all all launch off this discussion. By saying that. I think the dallas wings three and five record while not glowing is actually like pretty decent. All things considered especially since two of those five losses or overtime to the reigning champs. Every time i see the dallas wings on the schedule. I don't know what to think like for other teams 'cause when i see you know the fever or the mistakes or maybe even like the dream and the links were both hovering around five hundred right now for a good team. I think a good team should win that game for dallas. It's kinda like. I don't know a rica. Google la is a star and now marina may be has thrown. Her hat in. The ring is an easy most improved. Contender Having a fifty forty nine season on the early season..

"wnba" Discussed on WNBA Nation
"Back after a little bit of a hiatus that was our summer break For us for hosts and we are back now to talk about wnba basketball and holy crap. There's a lot that we got to touch on so with me to help. Today is my new landlord cal. Haywood unlike that. That's how you're going to introduce me. My current landlord kylie is part of the agreement demanded to be on the show. We know. now i'm holding anytime logan's going to be on the show after. Hold them hostage. I get to also be on the show. That time. So i i was We're not streaming this one. A lot of times we'll do our episodes on twitch. Join us over there but This one we make sure that we got out because we know you guys have been waiting on an episode And we're not. We're not streaming this one. But i really was looking forward to making the first of many jokes about like. Oh i haven't seen in a long time as Thirty seconds a day. Yeah it was like we were standing in my kitchen. And i was like you want to record right now like and he walked downstairs and i walked upstairs to go record. You know what. I was thinking since we're not streaming. You totally could have just grabbed a chair in like sat in the office with me and we could like record. That's true. I don't know why that's that's never been our process. I think a lot of people don't know that still But we record like we've never really recorded in the same place. It's one of the challenges that we you know. We put on jason our editor to to make it sound as much as possible like We're all we're all together but we ever talk over each other. It's because Like one of us is lagging or something. Because we don't we don't have like our sponsored studio built yet for this podcast. But that's that's the goal man like we're just gonna turn. I have a second bedroom now. And when we get that. Figured out and soundproofed and get mike's put in there that's gonna be the first ever. Wnba nation sponsored by. Insert your sponsor here. Yeah if anybody's looking sponsor the show we could talk numbers with you and see if you want to hook it up. We could do something like that until then. We got men since we last tuned in with you guys is probably about two weeks because it was the end of may was our last episode. We basically kyle on that episode talking about like. How long does it take before you know the truth about some teens. And i think our answer was like. I don't know like ten to twelve games like a third of the way in the season. Well as of recording this we are looking at most teams having played about nine or ten games Which means that. It's time to do some standings watch with you guys today. That's what we've got planned and then anything else that the kyle you wanna throw in there. We can also do that. I'm looking forward to to breaking down what you think about some of these teams that are rising and falling. Some some teams are in trouble. Some teams are doing better than we thought. We can start wherever you want but where you should want to start is with the connecticut sun am i am i wrong. I wanna start logan so talk to me about the connecticut sun and especially with with jonquil jones departure. Kind of how you see this team season. So far yeah. Well since we talked last i mean to connecticut started out really really hot. Shot right up into first place and his pretty much held held serve. Their connecticut is a phenomenal basketball team. That i worry is going to start to slide ever so much when junko jones steps aside because right now jonquil jones is looking like she is like the front runner of the wnba or the wnba. Mvp race so because of that. I think it'll be. I think that we may see connecticut. Losing a few games here and there but to this point the identity of the connecticut sun is they've been playing like the best team in basketball right now. That's that's where they're at but this is This is such a hard season especially because of the olympics. And other you know other things going on that you know teams like we already mentioned teams like washington who've got like three of their starters gone right now. A connecticut missing one of their starters and now going to be missing. You know their front runner friend. Vp i think the standings right now really do reflect exactly how each team has been playing but connecticut for me. They've looked like the best team. I don't think they're going to be holding onto that number one spot and connecticut. You can say i'm disrespecting you with the capital city. I don't look at it. I i'm not trying to you. Guys have more than proved me wrong. In a my prediction of of where i had you but with john jones seven down. I think that that's i don't want to under underrate junk jones contributions. And so i think that that's that's where i'm seeing connecticut. They are going to start to slide ever so ever so slightly here. Yeah the sun are such a good team man but some of what makes that team goes. John quincy jones if you look down Over their of their game by game schedule mean. She leads the team in points almost every night. She leaves the team in rebounds every night but one bonner got more rebounds than her one time but she generally is getting double digit rebounds. She's getting twenty points a game. She's actually i. I have her pro. Basketball reference page just like permanently open on my computer. Just keep going back to it this season. She's averaging over twenty one per game with eight rebounds added in a handful of assists she is easily an mvp front runner In fact i think she's kind of sparking a debate over how many games you could miss of the wnba season instill still throw your hat in the ring for mvp because she's in terms of leading the pack. It's her right now. But there's certainly an opportunity for other athletes to step into that spotlight with her overseas. The other thing that you'll notice if you look at the connecticut sun as a whole is it's june eight as of the recording this episode. They have yet to lose a game. In regulation yes They have lost to the seattle storm in an overtime contest. back at the end of may that was those right when we record our last episode and then they lost at minnesota in overtime by five In another one that was just kind of bonkers and then rebounded with with goodwin's against vegas in new york so i'm with you. i think they're going to feel jones's absence Like you would feel almost like an injury like if you know if you took elena delle donne the championship mystics team in twenty nineteen like what would you have. It's like it's still pretty good team with a lot of good pieces but you know they play seattle next And then they have three of the next four games after that or against chicago and we talked about chicago yet on this pod but they got some work to do so those even without jones those could be some winnable games And.
