"But first, Kyle, will you tell everyone where people can find our show? Absolutely. Best way to get in contact with us and to interact with us would be either a through following us on Twitter, which is at WNBA nation pod. You can find us on Twitter there. You can find this anywhere at WNBA nation pod. We're on YouTube channel. We've got a Twitch stream, just search WNBA nation you should be able to find this just about everywhere. But probably the best location for you to go to just have all of that in one single location is WNBA nation dot com. That is where you've got links to our socials. You can listen to episodes just straight just play through your computer or your phone, just right there on our website. You can also hit up our blog, which has as Logan was mentioning some of our more recent blog posts have been our power rankings. We just got our power rankings week three up just a couple of days ago. Obviously early on, there's a lot of movement, but that's been a lot of fun putting that together. And last but not least, our store. You definitely need to check out our store. It's a ton of fun. We actually Jason and Steve and myself, we've been getting a bunch of stuff and I know Logan's just putting in an order as well. We've been getting the merch in and it's the quality has gone up. And our price point has stayed the same. So we are happy to report that the quality of our merchandise is really solid and it looks good. It fits good. We're really, really happy about this story. It's been really, really nice. If you're looking for a way to support the show and support women's hoops in a way that also provides you a free opportunity to just talk with whoever else about it, this is a great way to do it. All the time when I wear our merch when I've got our W logo or the Warhol design, different things like that, if I'm wearing something or if I've got a stick around my truck or on my wife's car, like different things like that, people come up and say, oh, hey, what's that? And then you get a tell them all about it. And it's a lot of fun. To kind of brag up our involvement with not bragging. But just brag up the league, brag. This incredible basketball product that we get to be a part of. That's the best way to get in contact with us. Yeah, Logan did I miss anything? That's it. Thanks for going over all of that without further ado, we will get into the show. There's a couple of things that we're going to talk about today as I mentioned. Most of the last episode was recapping, which I know just barely came out. So if you have this too, yeah, that's fine. But I don't want to do too much looking back on this one, but there is, I think, something that we could talk about that is a main story today, Kyle. And that is, Caleb McBride, flying from turkey into LAX and her team with 20 four points and getting the links in the win column for the first time this season they are now one and four my question for you Kyle is this because we've talked a lot about Minnesota and what their prospects are. It's a pretty simple question. Is this enough to turn their season around? Or are they still circling the drain? Man, my initial gut reaction is that it isn't enough to turn their season around. However, there is prior precedents to this very same type of scenario happening with this exact team just last year, where the team started out zero and 5 signed lasha clarendon and ended up going on a tear and finishing as the three seed. We now saw a theme that was zero and four to start the season, bring back one of their players who had been over in Europe. That player goes off, they get a W, who knows, maybe Minnesota turns this thing around. Right now my gut instinct is to say no, I don't think that this is kind of the turning point for the links. I think there's still some bumps and bruises along the way for where the franchise is currently sitting. But I don't know. I'd be super down if Minnesota proved us wrong because. I'll share this on our pre season power rankings. The first one that we ever did, there was at least one host that had the Minnesota links as the number one team on their power rankings, individually. For reference, they were unanimously the last place team on our last power ranking. So we'll see. We'll see. I don't want to call them, say that, oh yeah, no, they're going to turn it around right now. But, you know, they did it last year. And I would not be, I guess it wouldn't be surprised, but it's definitely far from expected. How do you think, how do you feel about this links team now that we've seen them actually kind of get over the hump and get the monkey off their back to get the W here? Yeah, it depends on, I guess, how we're going to define turnaround because do I think they can get back to where we think they're a top three team in the league? No. I don't think they're that team this year. I don't think the moves they've made reflect that. But I don't think a team.

Brittney Griner Hates America, yet She Needs America
"A moment ago, I spoke about the WNBA star her name is Brittany griner. Who was arrested at an airport in Russia. This is the same Britney Reiner, who said, about the national anthem, I'm not going to be out there for the national anthem. She said two years ago, if the league referring to the WNBA, continues to want to play at that fine, it'll be all season long, I'll not be out there. I feel like more are probably going to do the same thing. I can only speak for myself. And she said earlier, yeah, we're here to play basketball, but basketball doesn't mean anything in a world where you just can't live. We can't wake up and do whatever we want to do. Go for a run, go to the store and buy some candy. I presume she referring to Trayvon Martin. Drive your car without fear of being wrongfully pulled over. I just want to challenge everybody to do more. Write the story that might be tough. Take a chance, ask a question that's tough. Don't let it be silent. We don't get asked enough what's going on in our communities, and I think that's a shame.

"Player that's going to come in and have an impact. Probably very similar to her fellow South Carolina alumnus Asia Wilson. So Aaliyah Boston, 2023 top prospect. 2024, it's really, it's a story of two players right there. Caitlin Clark and Paige Becker's are kind of your one two punch and I don't know which ones one and which ones two at this point. But they're your one two punch for that 2024 draft class. And I'm excited to see what each of them can bring to the table in the WNBA. And I know that Boston is getting a lot of media Becker's and clerk also getting a lot of media. You know who's not getting enough media is anissa Mauro, and that's out of and she's out of depaul. And absolutely incredible player. And absolutely incredible player. I believe she's currently on a 22 game streak of getting a double double in 22 straight games. Like that's insane. Everybody's losing their mind and deservedly so because aliyah Boston is doing it at South Carolina. But I'm telling you right now as a freshman anissa marrow at depaul 22 straight double doubles, she's averaging 20 .4 points per game, 13.8 rebounds per game. And oh, and by the way, she's shooting over 51% from the floor. Anissa marrow is the future of basketball, and I'm excited to see how her career pans out there at depaul. And I'm stoked to see where she's eventually going to end up here in the WNBA, because that can't come soon enough. I'm excited to see what she can do in the league. Everybody, thank you for listening in to me rambling I hope somewhat coherently about how I see the 2022 WNBA draft panning out. If you've got comments or questions, hit us up on Twitter at WNBA nation pod or you can follow me individually on Twitter that's at Haywood underscore Kyle. You can hit me up there and I'd love to hear your takes. I know that you and I are probably don't have the exact same top 12 or we think the first round is going to go different. I'm cool with that. Hit us up. Send me a DM tweet us. Let me know what your how you see the first round going. Who did I really miss out on that or who do I have too high? Who do I have too low? I want to hear your thoughts. I've spent a ton of time watching a lot of film on these players and this is just my vibe. For where I see things going right now, but I would love to hear from you. And be able to discuss this. So that's all I've got for you tonight. Thanks again for everyone for listening. For WNBA nation, I'm Kyle Haywood and we got you next time. I'm Amira rose Davis. "WNBA nation how's it going? Kyle Haywood here and I am dropping a weekend episode for all of you where I will be going over my WNBA mock draft 1.0. That's right. I've been watching a ton of college basketball and surprise surprise, a little bit of a spoiler for later. Some international basketball as well and taking a lot of notes on players that have declared for the draft or removed their name from the draft, and whatnot. And I'm excited about today's episode. I'm really, really pumped and I hope you guys are going to enjoy to hear enjoy hearing my takes as far as how I see as of right now, February 26th, 2022, how this upcoming WNBA draft is going to go. All right, so getting a lot of things change. I wanted to do this as we were starting to finish up conference regular season play before we had conference tournaments and head into March. I will be doing obviously some other additions, at least one more of these just prior to the actual draft itself, if not another one in between those two. So prior to this, I've been making these episodes and basically ranking like the senior class. Here's my top 5 players from this senior class. So here's my top ten players of this senior class. And now that we're getting a little bit closer to the actual draft, we're starting to see players declare for the draft or let teams know, hey, no, I'm going to be coming back next year. Things like that. And so I think that this is about the right time of year where we can start actually putting together a really solid, at least have a pretty decent understanding of a mock draft situation here. But before I hop in and start giving my picks, I really would love to just give a quick shout out to so many of you who are so supportive to us all of the time we've had a lot of different ratings and reviews coming through on the show. We really appreciate that. I got to give a shout out right now to all of our listeners on Spotify. Primarily well over half of our listeners have tended to come from Apple podcasts. So they're on iTunes and whatnot. But Spotify, all of a sudden coming along strong and now we are less than half of our downloads coming from Apple podcasts and Spotify really starting to show up and show out there. So appreciate all of you who are listening on Spotify. For those of you and you can leave a review there, you can tap that 5 star review as well. We really would appreciate that. But before we get too much further, I want to give a shout out to two of our 5 star written reviews that we've received on iTunes. The first one comes from Andrew dot leaker, I apologize if I said your name wrong there Andrew. But it's titled best sports best sports podcast out there. This 5 service says this podcast should be the gold standard for sports podcast every episode is engaging informative and informative and full of excellent information. You are very kind to Andrew. We appreciate that. We do put a lot of effort into this. But to have us as the gold standard, that's some high praise and we do appreciate that. We still feel like we are still growing and developing as a podcast, but we have come a long way in the 5 years or so that we've been doing this podcast. So we appreciate that. One other one is from MC patters. This is 5 star reviews titled a must listen for WNBA fans. And they write if it was just the funky intro 7.654, right? I'd love this pod. Please tell me how you came up with that. But the content is excellent. The interview with the financial, the financial guide was an eye opener. That's a call out to David Barry, who we had on our show just a few episodes back. If you want to scroll down and listen to that, that was a fantastic opportunity that we had to have him on the show again. We've had him on in the past and it was great to have him on. My question, what can we do to get Jim Rome and herd to stop ignoring the league? ESPN is starting to be better is pretty good about it, but we have to get more Talking Heads to pay attention, keep up your great work. It's coming. It's coming. Just stay the course. And women's basketball is starting to become absolutely impossible to ignore. And to be honest, some of these individuals that we're going to be talking about today in this upcoming WNBA draft are a huge reason why. And so I can't wait to get going on that. If you want to.

"So, I mean, and that's exactly women's college basketball right now is the third highest revenue sport in college basketball. And the revenue that women's college basketball now generates is equivalent to what men's college basketball was generating in the 1990s late 1990s. So that's well past where Magic Johnson was 20 years earlier. That's how big women's college of assholes become. So it's a major major sport. And these women become celebrities in women's college basketball, right? And people watch them in the final four. And then they go to the WNBA and you take a player like Kelsey plot when she goes from starring in college to going the WNBA, if you look at the cost of attending her university, which is essentially her wage to play college basketball. She almost took a pay cut to go to the WNBA. I mean, that's how little they were paying her. And so because it's such a smaller entity, the WNBA is still in terms of revenue. Still a very tiny institution. Southern Utah university brings in as much revenue in a year as the WNBA does. And so that's how big the WNBA is. Yeah, and I think to tie to that even on a macro scale looking at this $75 million investment, I think you say a lot of players, coaches, you know, organizations have a motivation to continue working hard playing hard because if we continue to put out a stellar product, this only has potential to grow. It's that idea of, okay, we're seeing where this goes. And I think for a lot of people, it comes down to the excitement of the dollar amount and that news as it starts to weigh down the next question that obviously comes down to okay. But what where are we taking this? What is this going to order? And I guess my thought process here is if David put on the commissioner cap if Cathy Gilbert allows you to have that mantle for a bit, what do you think are the best ways to utilize this funding overall to best growth the league? Well, I don't think she can do this or that she willing to do this. But the thing that needs to change the WNBA, the most important thing that they have to change. And Mark Davis, the owner of the ace is actually just a yesterday. We have to change player pay. You've got to get to a point where WNBA players only play in the WNBA and do not play in leagues elsewhere. And for that to happen, you have to change what you're paying the players. And they already have the revenue in place to do that. You know, conservatively, I think their revenue is at least $70 million, which means if they were giving 50% of that to the players, which is supposedly what the NBA Major League Baseball does. That's $35 million that you contribute to player pay. Right now they're paying about 18 million. In salaries dollars. Doubling the pay of the players. And if you and if you made it so that it was so that it was the way in which the pay was given out was following the same distribution as the NBA. And I've written about this before. Your top players would all be getting paid a $1 million a piece. Or close a $1 billion. And if you did that and said, look, I'm going to pay you a $1 million or $800,000 or $600,000 to plan that at the NBA. But the deal is you can only plan the WNBA. This is your league. And that way you force the players to not only devote all of their attention that WNBA, but also they're around in the off season to promote the league. You don't have this embarrassing outcome when the Washington went a title. You can't have a parade because the players are contractually obligated to leave immediately for European sports. And so that to me is the most important thing. And they are going to, from what I understand, renegotiate television deal, which is ridiculously low, they're only pay $25 million a year by ESPN to broadcast their games, which is a ridiculous. So that's very low value. Imagine that contract goes to a 100 million. Now, now your league revenue is a 150 million. Now you can up to pay to 75 million for the entire league. As opposed to 18 million. So now you're tripling the pay. Yeah. Because I was thinking, I was just thinking how like the WWE a couple years ago signed a multi-billion dollar contract to put their side second, most popular show on Fox. Yes. And that was a multi-billion dollar contract. So the year 25 million for context for people, that's an extremely extremely low price point. When it comes to deals. And the NBA negotiated it. And.

"Should follow us at WNBA nation pod as well as all of our individual twitters will have plenty of coverage stuff there for you as well as just a lot of interaction with the show. That's really our other than the actual podcast that's kind of the foundation of our communication with you listeners. So go be a part of the nation over there. That's where you get gems like bria Hartley, tweeting out yesterday, WNBA free agency, we're waiting. For another good follows. We got all the good follows. Yes, absolutely. It's one of those scenarios. I'll check it out in SQ kicking it at the Staples Center right now, sorry I just saw on Twitter that she's watching the game over at staple. Sorry, the crypto dot com arena. That's good fun. So no, I think it's been fun and interesting conjecture and I'm excited to see where else we take that. But as Logan said, you know, follow along on Twitter and of course you could stay connected with us over it. WNBA nation pod, same over Facebook. If you want some live spice, check us on over at the Twitch. We record these episodes on our live stream. You'll also get some fun content before and after the recordings take place. We have some really cool discussions. And it's just a great community to be a part of. So we hope you're part of that goodness. Our store envy page. We've always got some good merch around. I think we're looking at some new designs to come up before too long. As things run and yeah, stay connected to the show. Logan, here's the thing. So last week you and I did a stream and an recording and our wonderful Twitch live stream check community hit us up with some great Q&A questions. And I just kind of want to do that again. I was just fun. It was fun. It was kind of like I'm not a board game guy, so I'm always that guy who like because he needs to hang out with friends while I go to board game nights and just kind of like kicks around and just tries not to be too bored. But then once every several months, there's actually a game that we play that I love. And then the next week we have board game item like, can we just do that one again? I don't want to play like the 900th version of munchkin. Can we just play that one game that I did like? And that's kind of how I feel right now. I think some good old fashioned Q&A and maybe you're very into it because behind the scenes stuff, you can see the chatter at chat right now and I can't. This is almost like a fancy reveal I'm like this is my Pepsi challenge. Q&A style. Well, it's fun for me 'cause I get to throw things to you first and then I get time to think about it while you answer. It's nice to have some at all some power in this scenario. "WNBA nation hello again. Welcome to another episode of the show. We are in the throes of free agency. And if you're following on Twitter, it may not feel like it. It hasn't quite gotten spicy yet, but, you know, just like any episode of hot ones, we're in the softball sauces. It's going to heat up pretty quickly. I'm Steve Schwartzman. Here, with our resident oregonian, which double congratulations, as we record this because both organ teams want tonight, Logan Jones, how's it going? Steve, a source confirms that I've been meeting with a variety of sports podcasts, but it looks like I'm going to be coming back to WNBA nation. Oh, good. So do you have your back? Free agency were having just a lot of sources confirming and not a lot of music. We should spread our own bogus podcast free agency rumors. Of like, I've got a source tell me. A nation producer, Jason snow is currently in talks with win cider to potentially take on the same position over there. I love win cider, but they can't have Jason. We need Jason. I know Kyle's getting quarter by spinsters and, you know, I'm not sure how that's gonna work, but we'll try it out. You know, I've already demanded a trade you know, this is why I demanded to have wild, just like the NFL every year, some ESPN analysts is like, you know, I think Russell Wilson wants to be an Indianapolis colt, and he doesn't, but like the NFL isn't allowed to have a boring off season. So they just make crap up. And I'm starting to get it. I'm starting to get why the speculation happens because it's talking into existence. Like, look, we know Vander sleuth's meeting with some teams. What do you think? But like, we're just waiting. We're waiting to release an episode an hour after breaking news. It happens every year. And it'll probably be this one. So it'll probably all lead to nothing, you know, a lot of the conjecture and talk that's already come up online. But I'm so happy that we're all just diving into it. The vendors, the ones a good example because I think there was the piece that came out that said Vander sloot is not a for sure thing in Chicago. I know she's talking to these teams. And that probably, I mean, who knows, I may be eating my words, but that probably is like less of a story than we want it to be, but it's because it's free agency. It's just fun to talk about that story. I love that it didn't take more than a couple minutes for all of the Vander sloot storm Jersey photoshops to come up. Like Twitter was solely made for Jersey photoshops. That's like exactly all that Twitter should exist for. Like get all boomers off of there, all of the maga stuff off of their, you know, if you like KPop, I guess follow some KPop, but we it's for me at least sports Twitter is solely made to take a player you like at Photoshop them in your Jersey. Like that's your right as a member of that website and I'm glad that we're diving into it in WNBA fashion. It's another reason honestly why the Jersey reveal last April was so important because now we can do that and it means you don't just have to like color bucket change things. You actually have to put a Jersey on them. Yeah. So speaking of speaking of Twitter, if you're not on the Twitter and you want the latest updates news and notes from the WNBA, you.

"My back is finally starting to feel better. I don't think I shared this over Twitch, per se. But I slipped a disk in my back about three weeks ago and it's just been killing me ever since, but I did my first full workout today since that happened. And that feels really good. So I'm feeling really good 'cause I actually exercised because when you don't exercise for three weeks, you're like, you just start feeling kind of, I mean, I am fat, but you start feeling fat, which is very different than just being fat. So yeah, I'm feeling good. I got my first good workout in today and my back seems to be holding up all right, which I'm excited about. Nice, very cool, dude. Glad to hear that. I know that you're in a little bit of pain with that before. So I'm glad to hear that it's working its way through. Well, we usually do this episode with all four of our hosts tonight. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances have pulled both Steve and Logan away from us, but we do have their actual. We all were assigned a new year's resolution for three teams. So the four of us we split up the 12 teams in the WNBA and so each got three teams, Steve and Logan have their responses recorded. We will be inserting those here so that you can listen to those and hear them as we as we do on the show. And yeah, it'll be good. So it may sound like we're kind of like cutting and pasting a little bit. And that is true, but it is what it is. And I think it's still going to work out just fine. I think you all should enjoy this episode quite a bit. But before we hop right into it, just want to remind each of you to go ahead and give us a 5 star rating if you happen to be listening to this via Apple podcast. Those 5 servings really do help us out. And in all honesty, we've seen our show really boost up the ratings. We are a top 100 basketball podcast. When you search WNBA, we're the number one podcast that hops on there. We also have recently been notified that we are in the top 1% of all podcasts that exist, which is a huge, huge accomplishment, and it's not necessarily what we do it's because of each and every one of you that is listening. So make sure you're subscribed, make sure that you hit that 5 star rating that really does help. Let's just spread the news, get as many people familiar with the WNBA is absolutely possible. If you want.

"I am in so much pain. My back is killing me, but I'm good. Besides that, I've got lumbar support. I've been sitting on a massage chair all day. But I'm doing good. How are you doing, Kyle? Not bad, man. Not bad. I'm getting over a cult. So if I sound a little bit stuffed up, I apologize to everybody, but I've had a cold for like basically I recorded that episode. Our last episode, my top 5 draft pick prospects. So I recorded that in immediately within an hour at like had a stuffy nose and wasn't feeling good. So I'm just getting over that, which is nice. So yeah, but other than that, things are good, man. We've had some fun WNBA news coming around. That we'll get to here very soon. But it was really cool to see some of the reactions. Appreciate many of you who listened in on our last episode. As far as top picks, and it was cool, Jason, I know that you listened to episode you edited it and uploaded it for me and I appreciate that. It was kind of fun because literally within minutes of our episode being uploaded, ESPN and Michelle vocal came out with their 12 mock draft, right? Like who's going number one through 12? And it felt really good because of my top 5 Michelle vocal put the top four like the exact same that I had them in that order. And I was pretty sucked on that because Michelle is really smart. And it made me feel like, oh, like, okay, like I've actually like this effort that I've put in. It just felt like I was a little bit not verified is not the right word. I'm thinking like Twitter verified, but justified. I felt validated. Thank you. Felt validated because somebody else who obviously probably spends a lot more time and effort covering covering it than I do felt very similarly. So all the extra game film and games that I've watched this year and notes that I've taken on these players and just my own personal eye test. I felt really good. I felt really validated seeing that come through. We've got a difference of opinion on our number 5 overall, but that's okay. That's all right. I think that they had actually Jones down at like 8 and I've got her up at number 5. If you went chalk all the way, then people would think it was just a copy and paste it to you. Right? I know. But it was really it was kind of fun. And that was a fun episode. I will keep that up to date as we go. I'll probably, that's kind of my own personal like baby, I guess you could say, as far as our show goes, I'm keeping tabs on a lot of the NCAA. Everybody in our shows watching NCAA games across the board. But as far as draft prospects, that's something I'm trying to hone in on a little bit this season. So I'm spending a lot of extra time. YouTube highlights game reviews, just watching a lot there. It's been a lot of fun. But Jason we get today to talk about the WNBA draft lottery that happened on Sunday. It's been a little bit over 24 hours since we had a chance to watch that take place. But before we hop into that, Jason, let's let everybody all of our listeners right now know how they can best interact with us and where they can find us. Yeah, so if you want to watch the show live, we do that on Twitch. Almost every time we record not every time, I will say that there have been a few times we've recorded off, but almost every time we record we do that live on Twitch so if you want the chance to comment, get some interaction before and after the recording, we talk a lot with the chat and those things. You can do that over on Twitch that's twitch.tv slash WNBA nation. Give us a follow. If you're an Amazon Prime member, you can subscribe for free to one stream a month. We would appreciate it if you did that us for us. It gives us a couple of bucks. Or if out of the generosity of your heart, you want to subscribe and pay the $5 monthly fee to subscribe. We would appreciate that too. That helps to support the show and what we're doing here. As always, we ask that you subscribe and rate and review and whatever podcast grabber you use if it has a rate and review feature. If you rate and review, give us a 5 star review on iTunes. We will go ahead and read those live on the air. So give us a rate and review, subscribe on your pod feed that way. It just shows up on your phone or whatever device you use for listening to podcasts. If you want some merch go over to WNBA nation dot store and V dot com. We've got some shirt designs, which I am actually in the process of revamping that right now. So if you wait a week or two, if you wait a week or two, there might be some new options and maybe a little bit of a cleaner interface there. That's kind of my in between semesters thing that I'm working on. As far as that goes other than that, I feel like I'm missing something, Kyle, what am I missing? That's pretty much it. You can find us on Twitter. Twitter, yeah, it's a Twitter Facebook. At WNBA nation pod, at WNBA nation pod on Twitter and Facebook were more active on Twitter. I'll be honest. But just recently, we did add our podcast to Facebook..

"On the show. Last time you lose. This came about a week ago, this is from Alex MMG 11 titled first time listener. They say really glad to listen to a WNBA podcast. Please keep the episodes coming. I already catch up with the old ones. We appreciate that Alex. We will for sure keep these episodes rolling. Make sure that you have plenty to listen to. Obviously, we'll be hitting some contact with our content with the WNBA lottery coming up. We'll have plenty of other episodes off season moves overseas updates, obviously we keep a good eye on the NCAA, action as it rolls out this season, we are planning on being in Minneapolis with the final four. Coming up end of March beginning of April. So if you're planning on being there, we're excited to see you then. And yeah, so we'll have plenty of episodes coming out here we're heading right into some pretty heavy holiday season. But I want to make sure we got this episode out and give you something to think about for these teams as the WNBA draft lottery gets revealed. If you've got a team in that that's going to be picking their towards the top, maybe these are some names that you as a fan want to start to familiarize yourself with because they may or may not be ending up on your team. So I just also want to give a quick shout out to everyone who's following us on Twitch and who is a subscriber on Twitch as well. We try to stream these episodes live. I'm not streaming this one live because I'm just hopping on making a quick recording mini episode. But we do stream fairly frequently on Twitch and have a great Twitch community there. You can check it out twitch.tv slash WNBA nation. It's a great way to get in contact with us. You can follow us on Twitter. It's probably the best way to get in contact with us and to interact with us. And that is at WNBA nation pod. You can find us on Twitter there. Let's hop into this. Let's hop in and really break down where I see these first few picks going if I were to limit this strictly to NCAA players. Obviously, there's a lot of overseas influence that comes obviously we saw last season. The second overall pick went to awa queer who went queer was picked second overall, overseas player young overseas player, a lot of people were disappointed not to see more of her, but she's young. She's by far the youngest player in the WNBA, and is going to take a little while to kind of grow and develop. But yeah, so obviously there's going to be some overseas players. I am strictly looking at this from an NCAA perspective. So only the best players currently in the college game that would be eligible for the WNBA draft. Currently, all of my top 5 are seniors because juniors technically can declare for the draft if they meet the specific requirements to get in, but I'm not going to get into that currently. It's still a little bit early to try to play around and figure out who maybe declaring early and whatnot. So I'm sticking with seniors. So let's start with what I think a lot of people assume is the obvious pick here. My number one on my list currently is Ryan Howard. Out of Kentucky. But I will say this before I before I break down Howard's game here, I will say the gap between Howard and the rest of the field, I feel has closed. And I don't think that it's she is the overall consensus number one and I think potentially we could see at least one other player in that number one overall spot. That being said, I personally right now, if I had the number one traffic, I would take Ryan Howard out of Kentucky. She's a 6 foot two guard who has been absolutely lights out since she stepped onto the Kentucky basketball court. When national freshman of the year, unanimously. In the 2018 2019 season and has done a lot in her career at Kentucky. A lot of people will look at hey her sophomore year, she averaged 23 points. Junior year, she dropped that down to 20 points. And maybe look at it that way. I'll just say that I think overall she's becoming a more well rounded player. She's one of the more well rounded players that we've seen come out of a draft. Can do a lot on the court. She leads her team in points, rebounds, assists, and she's right up there. I think she's second in steals last season on her team. So she's she does a fantastic job of taking care of the ball on offense, scoring, plays great defense. Ryan Howard really is, she's the real deal. I've got some notes here, just based on film that I've watched on Ryan Howard. Here's kind of what I think makes her a great potential number one overall draft pick. Her dribbling and shooting just looks so easy. She never looks like there is a ton of effort in the drilling and shooting everything that she does, whether it's a step back or a crossover, a jump shot, a drive to the hoop, a three pointer, everything she does is smooth and easy. It looks effortless for her. And I really, really like what I see from that. She has fantastic size for a Garcia's listed at 6 foot two. And is able to really do a lot with that size. Her shot is absolutely just insanely quick. She has a very, very quick release. Her step back, her step back into a jumper is absolutely lethal. She makes great work of that. She also has a fantastic floor vision. A lot of times when you have a high scoring guard, they tend to look to score first where Howard actually has fantastic floor vision. If she hasn't open teammate as she's making a move for a shot and the teammate comes open because a double team is headed her way, she can easily dump a pass off to a teammate her floor vision is really, really solid. If I would call out any weakness that I think Howard has, I think her overall footwork, her quickness and speed isn't quite there. She kind of makes up for it with her size and just the ball control that she has with dribbling. But I think that if she can get into a program that is going to help her increase that footwork and the overall speed, I think that's where we could see some potential improvement there from Howard. Before we move away, let me redo her current stats just so everybody knows this is midday December 15th, so obviously this is just the season up to this point. She's currently averaging 18.3 points per game on 40 well 46% shooting. She's shooting 35% from the three point line and 75% from the free throw line. She's also averaging just shy of 7 rebounds per game. And has a two to two to one assist to turnover ratio, which is exactly what the kind of stat that you want to see from someone who's going to be handling the ball for your team. So I think overall she's a well rounded player..

"Kind of a rivalry like a one off rivalry with a different team every year. But there's no true draw that's like, oh, even if I don't watch every other game, I'm definitely gonna tune into that one. And they play four times a year to really get familiar with one another. And so for that reason, I don't think conferences matter to be that much. They do in other sports. I'm not one of those people that wants the NBA to just be like a strict one through 16. I think that's dumb. Frankly, but until there's more expansion until the season gets longer. To me, I kind of want to see every team play everybody else roughly an equal amount of times. And then when it comes time to see the playoffs, just, you know, just make it best to worst. Because otherwise you're going to end up in situations where your fourth place team is the number one seed in the east conference or something like that. That's much more likely to happen with a shorter season. Gotcha. I don't mind how it's set up right now, but when we're doing this show in 2040 and we've got 20 teams and ten teams in each conference, playing 60 games this season. Yeah, and you've got players that maybe the rivalries are a little bit more juicy. They are right now. I'm not trying to say that there aren't rivalries. I just think for the most part, there's so much player movement in the WNBA and so many of the rosters are already really familiar with each other because there's only a 144 players. So you get traded and it's like I already know. You get traded twice and you're like, I know a third of the league. You're a fourth of the league, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it's not like, yeah, it's almost like there's already that closeness in the league that other leagues don't have. I don't know how much it would it would bring to introduce divisions and conferences in a way that.

"Playoff run that's up there if you haven't seen those yet so go ahead and check out store envy. And I think that's all the plugs, Kyle, we put it off long enough. We've got WNBA playoffs to talk about. Yes. Yes. I'm just Logan. We got a new WNBA playoff format announced officially today. Let's just hop right into that. We've got some other topics that we'll hit on. We'll hit those on the end here. Let's come in hot with this. They've changed it the Chicago sky were so they came into the playoffs and messed around and broke teams down in such a way as a 6 seed that the WNBA had to just throw that whole old playoff structure out and say, you know what, we're gonna make this resemble some other playoff situations here. So we have eliminated the buys and the double buys Logan. That's the first thing that I think is impactful. Before we talk about series and whatnot, they've eliminated buys and in particular that huge advantage of the double buy scenario for the one and two seeds, why do you think that's such a significant change for them to make? Well, I like this. I think there needs to be a certain amount of consistency between the playoffs and the regular season. And nothing there is no advantage in professional sports like the top seed in the WNBA was getting in the playoffs. It kind of eliminated the chance for there to be.
Chicago Mayor Lightfoot Posts Maskless Photo at WNBA Game, Violating Indoor Mask Mandates
"You think Lori Lightfoot cares that there's any pushback over her? Celebrating a WNBA, basketball teams win in the middle of a crowd indoors without her mask on. You think she cares? She just wants the police officers in Chicago fired. She wants to fire the cops. For not following the vaccine mandate. But she doesn't have to follow the mask mandate that she imposed. She's Lori Lightfoot. Biden doesn't need to follow the mask mandate that he imposed. He's Joe Biden. That's the point they know. You think Joe Biden doesn't know he's gonna get photographed? He's the president of the United States. You think somebody's gonna take his picture? Is he's walking through a restaurant? Well, of course they are. He doesn't care. Heck, Lori Lightfoot's picture. The one that she's sitting there grinning ear to ear in the crowd full of masked up people, you know why the people in the stands are mashed up 'cause they have to, 'cause that is the rules. But those rules don't apply to her. She's Lori Lightfoot. She's the mayor. His rules for thee not me. And they know it. She posted the picture. She doesn't care? That's interesting because i do think she's she could fall out of the top ten for the sake recency like i could see certain players getting bumped up just because like their name has been in the back of your head a little more often recently and i'm not going to see here in question that other to say again freaking league pass like a let us watch the two thousand one in two thousand and two sparks because there was like we really missed out on something special and they very much probably should have had three pete. But i won't go into that a frigging same. Detroit really broke my la sports heart twice in the same year. And i. i'm not a good place to go into it right now. But so yeah i this. This is huge. Obviously i don't know what else we could say at this point. I thank you. Lisa leslie for turning down a lucrative million dollar modeling contract in nineteen ninety seven to join a league ages. She could she was going to be worldly successful in one different way and made a name for herself where she is now and just coached in all star team that beat team usa before they wanna gold medal. So there's no team can afford to overpay for talent build a championship team with indeed..
"wnba" Discussed on WNBA Nation
"And i'm going to be running solo today. It's a big day. We've had some crazy results over the last few days of wnba action. And i'm going to try a little something different today. Just kind of a heads up. Logan is off traveling. He's he's kind of out and about right now. I just recently sued. School started back up. And so i just recently have been kind of getting back into the swing of things of of getting in setting up the classroom and getting my my classes going in that stake in some extra time. So i haven't been on as much recently. Steve's got some projects and jason says some things come up so we we missed our usual weekly episode that we record on mondays so we apologize that we missed that episode. But we're trying to come at you with some of our our later in the week episodes still so today because we missed that earlier episode where we weren't able to do just kind of a big league overview that's that's generally what we'll see in season play on these mondays episodes. We'll hit like maybe one or two big new stories but overall it's kind of a view of the league as it sits at that time. We usually try to do those mondays. Because mondays also are the days that are least likely to have wnba games in general. Mondays are the least played on day four. Wnba action so. That's how we decided to schedule that this monday didn't work out for a number of reasons so we did miss that one. But we've got some content coming your way or the next couple of days so you get me so low tonight excited to be here and to to discuss as you've probably can tell from the title of this episode my personal power rankings right now. I know that you're going to say. Oh i heard on. Wb nation pod they listed you know their power rankings twelve one and they were way off on such and such just so you all hear this out i personally have put these power rankings. Yeah this is not necessarily the power. Rankings that steve. Logan and jason share. Okay so there's that caveat right out the gate. They're probably going to come in on twitter with some some takes all right as far as where they. They think that. I'm wrong. And i'm cool with that. We're we're close friends. I want them to come in with some action. So guys if you're listening to this hit me up on twitter and let me know where i was way off in where you think. I've got some ground to stand on as far as my power rankings. Go at this point in the season. Now as i record this it is the night of the twenty sixth and so we just had a little bit of action. We just had las vegas beat atlanta seventy eight. Seventy one conn took care of the sparks. Although that was a pretty close game seventy six to seventy two and dallas beat washington eighty two to seventy seven in washington dc. So those were the results from tonight. So if you happen to be listening to this. Maybe friday or saturday especially friday evening after some more games have taken place. Maybe i switch up a couple of these rankings. Maybe i don't so as i'm recording this thursday august twenty six after these games have been played so i wanted to make sure that i had games played. Wanna give shout out to everybody. Right now and so. We're excited about that. I'm gonna i will. I will promise. I won't let those i guess influence the power rankings. I will be giving here shortly. But i appreciate those coming through so big shots everybody here. Who's dropping their power rankings into the into the chat here and yeah here we go. Let's get rolling furse off the bat. Well i should clarify this. I'm starting at number twelve. I'm starting at the absolute bottom of the power rankings and. I don't think this will surprise. People but i do know that. Not everybody. has this team at the bottom of their power rankings. So maybe this will surprise some of you. My number twelve right now is atlanta..

Teams here in our united states to be invited to the white house of visit with the president After your crowned the champion well. The wnba was not invited to the white house during our last president's time there and Yeah the previous administration just decided they weren't going invite the wnba to the white house for whatever reasons But we don't care because now joe biden is in the building and seattle storm did get to go to the white house and celebrate their championship. Is the Taliban Dictating US Foreign Policy?
"Joe biden is saying that he's gonna stick to the august thirty first deadline because the taliban said so the taliban is dictating our foreign policy. You might say that. We have to leave afghanistan which is a fairly fair opinion. The have i have that opinion to but to say that we have to do it on the talibans terms that we got to be out in one week. We're in charger. We're calling the shots. Not the taliban. The taliban says that if we do not have everyone out by august thirty first there will be severe consequences and we don't even know how many americans are in afghanistan. We don't know how many people are their own. Government doesn't know and our leaders are too busy being in vietnam and doing wnba championships.

Brianna stewart and her wife. Marta officially had a daughter just a couple of days ago. Little baby ruby and so excited for them. What a last couple of weeks stuey has had. I mean stewing is playing. The game called life to perfection. I'll tell you boy if you ever want to just be like man like life's not a race. It's not about what you can accomplish an x. amount of time and then you like see someone like breeze stewart. And you're like yeah. Maybe maybe but like legitimately finishing up a w finishing up first half of the wnba season immediately going over to tokyo to compete in the olympics. Coming home with a gold medal within Super short amount of time from arriving home from tokyo. Playing in and winning the inaugural commissioner's cup of the wnba and the commissioner's cup mvp. CAS Rejects Ogwumike, Williams’ Bid to Represent Nigeria in Tokyo
"A pair of W NBA stars won't be going to the Olympics after trying to switch teams to basketball players who played professionally in the United States and wanted to represent Nigeria at the scheduled summer Olympics will not get to do so. The Court of Arbitration for Sport Rejected an appeal on behalf of WNBA's stars Nicaragua, McQuay and Elizabeth Williams. Both have ties to Nigeria through their parents. This upheld a ruling by Phoebe, the governing body of basketball, which in a statement wrote that although both players have played for the USA after the age of 17 and participated in the qualifying process to the Tokyo Olympics, they recently requested an exceptional change of their national status. Even noted the players would have to wait a three year period since their last game of the USA to be eligible to play at the Olympics. Nicaragua, McQuay's younger sisters, Chinese and Erica will play for the
WNBA Star Liz Cambage Withdraws From Olympics, Citing Mental Health
"Today about Liz Cambage. Um, you know, She has been very open about her mental health struggles. She wrote a story for the Players Tribune a couple years ago, acknowledging that she had been on suicide watch in 2016. She has some D N. P s for panic attacks. Um, has struggled with substance abuse. So when this comes out today, there is, of course, absolutely empathy and respect for her decision to protect herself. But of course, there's more to the story than that. There's the conversation around her partying in Vegas and violating Protocols. There's the story of an altercation in practice or in that friendly with Nigeria, the closed door matchup. How do you reconcile all the different parts of that story in in terms of her, then announcing she would remove herself from the situation perhaps before they had an opportunity to do just that without, you know, without her doing it. Well, I think that first and foremost, the mental health aspect is key. And a lot of the other behaviors and I have nothing to um You know, I have no facts to base on the other stuff that you mentioned. All I know is that first and foremost The middle health aspect and to be able to address and acknowledge that she has some mental health issues and to remove herself from the team. To take care of herself. First, I think is the most important thing.

So we don't we don't actually we all know the exact specifics of what happened but there was some sort of verbal altercation potentially physical altercation between it seems it seems to. I'm not reporting anything. I make it very clear. I'm not reporting anything. But seems like according to williams. Kenny carter guy into a kerfuffle. Things have turned physical bubble. Wait a scuffle. Whatever they got into something and it boiled over on the bench during the game to the point that kennedy had to be benched. Now this is playing out over twitter. Recording williams talking about this all over twitter There's been a lot sources talking. About how kenny carter is a cancer or a lot of stuff is coming out of atlanta. It seems dysfunctional. And again i just mentioned all three of their guards as being potential all star candidates. So it's not like team. They're not playing great. They're not one of the best teams in the league. But they're certainly not bad. Enough to be completely unraveling at the

WNB.Rb: Creating a Community With Jemma Issroff, Emily Giurleo and Sylwia Vargas
"So i interview jemma on episode three sixty two so we've heard some of the origins of wnba dot rb. But recap. how did the organization come together. So like i mentioned a little last time i had been looking to get to know the ruby community quite a bit more and so i was going to all these meet ups. They were virtual during the pandemic most of them so it kind of be berlin. One day in portland one day at different meet ups meeting different people and i was seeing almost all men at these meet ups in wondering why that was the case and so started doing outreach on twitter and trying to see what was happening at at the same time was watching a lot of talks about rubiun at prior ruby conferences and watched one that emily gave from ruby rubicon in twenty twenty and just message on twitter. Saying hey i love you talk nothing else. I was going for no real annual. Thanks for giving the talk. She me back and we just started talking about the meet up from there. Emily you wanna take it away. What happened next. Yeah sure so as gemma said she deemed me on twitter and was just like. Hey i love your talk and i was like oh my god. Thank you so much you know totally makes my day when people send me compliments out of the blue and then she mentioned that she was hoping to start this meet up and wondered if i might be one of the first speakers and it turns out that i actually had tried to start a similar meet up specifically for women and non binary people in tech but before the pandemic i think we couldn't imagine it being virtual and so to have this idea of a collective of women from all over the world specifically working on ruby was like so awesome to me and so we got on a call and just hashed it out and in a month we put together the first wnba dot rb meet up in march
