"It's it's not the same way that we would do. You know how it works. Any views usually two to four minutes long but sometimes they can be a little longer story when you when you live long enough. All kinds of strange things happen very right in saying that the greek heroes the original superheroes in part because of the nature of genes vision but also because of its message of diversity and inclusion. Anthony mackie talks about being captain. America in the falcon and the winter soldier. Sam taken up. The show was a difficult process for many different reasons one. He never really felt comfortable with the idea of becoming captain. America after steve. Rogers that was steve rogers. Monaco steve rogers job. And you know he didn't get into this to take over For steve rogers and also The idea of being a black man in america and and fighting four a symbol. That never fought for you as a very harsh reality to come to grips with So it was in no way shape or form easy for him to do. And we see perfectly executed with the introduction of isaiah bradley The relationship that i it is bradley has had with the the shield and the country and the lack of appreciation and support an acknowledgement that he's received kinda fit perfectly into the reluctancy That sam had becoming captain. America's not a a beautiful relationship between the history of american black men in america but at the same time realizing that sam wanted to use utilize that to be a character of a conduit of change You know because the great thing was sam is. He's not a superhero. He doesn't have superpowers. He doesn't have a suit. He's just a guy who went for a jog and became captain america. So you know it's very. It was very important for him. Realizing you know the isaiah. Bradley's of the world need representation to and there is a great way to do that to heal that open womb between black men in america. Been by him coming. Becoming captain america the differences.

"A lot more emotion and complexity than i thought it would starting out Yeah i think. Anthony mackie and sebastian. Stan are both great as those characters. And i think that they're great together as well. I think some of the banter and the riffing of each other it worked whereas a lot of marvel characters and relationships can feel kind of forced in that way. But i thought they pulled it off pretty well so yeah overall. I think i liked it more than i thought i. I would definitely liked it more than one division. But i'm sure there are people who maybe feel the exact opposite to that and yeah so yeah i mean that was a yeah i liked it. No yeah I think that the places that it probably soared the best. Were the places where it had a really solid grip on what story it was that it wanted to tell if i had to give the show any kind of paying i would say unlike wanda vision which was very singularly about grief and about wanda and about vision. This show is is spinning. A lot of plates you know. It's it's picking up. Where essentially the movies kind of finished. Off where steve's journey finished off it's trying to pick up where bucky journey left off because really never got any closure from his journey in the movies in any kind of way you know where this show for me. Probably gotta weakest was in some of the politics surrounding like the blip and you know in wanda vision. I thought they did a really great job. At at least showing the chaos of like the blip back and here it felt like some of the politics around the blip back got really really muddled for me. And i think that that's probably where i would have to give the show. Some of my hardest criticism is that even though i think aaron kelly men is carly morgenthau is doing a great job. She's really charismatic. As an actor you want to watch her. You want to root for her. Even her character doesn't necessarily always earn that feeling in terms of the hard writing. And so for me. That's probably one of the weakest points. And i think you know falcon and the winter soldier has six episodes at about fifty minutes pop and honestly i think that even though it was a little bit slow up front. I probably could've used one episode. Where i got.

There's a lot more reason to care. Certainly yeah and like. I said i i wanna see alamein for about them. I will go for. What about loan is an sba loan which is fun for me because it is in. Toronto references. Well that's because miss. Because dr fern professor farnsworth was the first person to invent a robot that could qualify for boat loan such obscure thing again that they maybe didn't even intend but just idea. I guess it's about loan. And well that's a futurama reference which is not their intention but the intention in my head and to your point earlier about vision going for a boatload would have probably went a different route. Yes but otherwise. I've also pointed out. You know he could. Also just you know get cut off his thinki- and say they go there like right. Here's your collateral there. Yeah exactly. it's like you know. I made if i bring him. I'm literally worth a billion dollars or like eight billion dollars. You know so. I will give you buy level or his the tip of my pinky as collateral. You can put it in your little safe deposit box and when you're not looking it'll phase in and out and come back to me and you'll still think it's there and he can manipulate himself in that way so he is the vision these awesome but oh yeah get image that which was the biggest revelation from assemble. Was that none of what we think of. The vision is actually practical effect. Prosthetics that is all. Cgi added just shows the level of cgi. Which again. I'm going to say man in part to that. Flashback of the final battle was really badly. Cgi what are we talking about. Justice league the last battle first battle. The first time dark side comes there was a lot. That's a lot of beds. Yeah yeah you definitely got a sense that some of it did not have a chance to get fully completed on some of the. Yeah i remember looking and he kept looking at this. Is that the guy from five hundred and three hundred yes. He does look like him. And that is you know he did. Maybe it wasn't intentional throwback but it also but also also also every guy from williamsburg brooklyn looks exactly the same visit aesthetic that people expect when you're a spartan or when you're a greek god. Whatever it'll they'll all look like that all just technically clones of bucky barnes. Just go back to the show. We're actually supposed to be talking about so much. Any final thoughts soak in winter soldier. You want to talk about this episode. Man they presented that like that that dude's waiting to get clobbered. I can't wait till somebody smacks him. In the chin he has a principal's. Oh boy loyal breath. I think they intentionally Who here's the way. I will tell you because when i first saw him when they announced it he had this big red beard. He's ginger okay. And the thing is is he looks so much like A character by the name of Dennis stuffy in the comics who is demands and he he was caps partner at one point and he has this habit of going out his beard because he actually has a lot of mental health problems because of the argumentation program. He went through. And so i wonder if they're going to but he was also just this guy who was so much in love with cap where he was like. Oh yeah cap is the best guy and i want to work with them and i want to be as i wanna be best pound as partner and routinely but he actually has a very sad story in the myleene verse and i kinda think that they kind of said well what if rather what have we call him john walker but he's actually done it. Stuffy is actually this guy just as real gung ho. I wanna have been a part of the superheroes you know. But he's also just you know just not the best guy but he's actually always well-meaning always kind of good and is that is that really nerdy captain america that you always that you kind of think about with cap. You know that big lou boy scout kind of chap But that he's just being manipulated by other people. Maybe that's what we're going to get his redemption. I i really think that that's something they're going so that but we'll we'll see how it goes I did want to talk about this. The most interesting thing is if there's no post credits scene in this but there is a lot going on in the final credits. There is a lot going on. There is what looks like a proto sword logo they flash up at some point. That looks like maybe it's like if sword was founded in the sixties fifties and you know or the eighties as we said and but one of the things there is a reference to the powerbroker says. The powerbroker is watching in. The powerbroker is a careful who actually created both john walker and dennis stuffy so there is an interesting aspect of there but the real interesting thing for me is. There is a quick flash of a black person's face half of his face which people say looks like the actor. Who was rumored to play. Is i isaiah bradley. But then again it could also be Battle star who. We might get later as of john walker. Which would be cool if they bring in battle star but It says but it's a handwritten note which is it says subject for four or five zero four five six six six four five six. Oh six or something like that but it just the idea that a we might be going back to peddle. Gordo where the sample. The last sample of steve rogers blood and the super soldier share sent when they were trying to recreate the super soldier serum and of course the red white red white and truth series which tells of this attempt to recreate the super soldier share them using african american soldiers against their will and i do think we will begin. Darnold zola in this before the end of it because it either in a flashback. Toby hooper coming back to his zoeller working on that project as the guy who says well just use whatever subjects you can find. I don't come from. I am this and.

I have been watching falcon and the winter soldier. I think this show is a good sort of encapsulation on the insane period that it's been with my moving because i think we talked about the show after first episode on this podcast and then i moved. Four weeks have gone by and now we are five episodes into falcon winter soldier. Getting ready for the final episode of this is right episode. Six and yeah. It's alright alright. So this this'll be this'll be a recap on the first five episodes if you are not caught up on falcon winter soldier. This is your spoiler warning. We are going to be talking about some things in this episode. So if you don't wanna hear any spoilers. I recommend you take a break. Go binge-watch five hours of phenomenal. I'm su- content and then come back then. Come back to this episode I i think that these marvel series on disney plus have been really great. It's a. It's an very interesting new way to consume official. mcu content. But i i have to admit the first three episodes of falcon and the winter soldier firm e were a little slow. I feel like they that the slow burn build up of what was happening. I there was a there was a point. Like i watched i watched three episodes and then i waited two weeks before i watch episodes. Ford five i i. I didn't watch episode four right when it came out. Now i will say episode. Four was great and episode five phenomenal but the for its if feel like it in taking its time. The pacing felt a little slow for me in the beginning. I don't know how how to do. Feel consuming these some of these episodes. Oh the falcons. Winter soldier who we we talked about too fat was a little bit a couple of weeks. "When you break it's it's converting that that stored energy into intellectual I don't know for a fact whether or not it. It charges on on a break. But i i asked. I asked that because again the the insight is a hybrid right And it's has has echoed has a sport mode and then it has an e. v. mode and if it's in the sport mode you is using more of the engine using more of the gas and so when i get on the freeway that's what i will take that the i'll push the button and switch in a sport mode though it can get the the the zoom zoom zoom zoom. Yeah for the ev echoed. Those us a lot more battery power but they also lake talking about you know going back to the coasting and like the immediate like slowing down those modes are very like you have to maintain pressure on it. Otherwise it's like yeah like it's it started there's much more friction In the coasting right that could be. That could be the case that could be. Why does that. But it's also not a tesla so yeah so the the first time in the tesla. I was riding in the passenger see. My mom was driving. And she's just kind of showing me around. I was like playing with the computer nurturing out about the different things on there and they just like okay ready and then she like florida and immediately. My head goes back seat. The acceleration on this thing is ridiculous. Yeah yeah the man because again. It's like it's a it's like a slot car right. Exactly it's just it's just you at once you up the voltage the. The engine is immediately. Who transfers energy to the to the axles and sons worth. So so when. I go out to dr it i'm driving. My mom is in the passenger seat and all three of my kids are in the backseat. It's it's night So it's a little dark out and my mom says okay. Go down here okay. We're gonna get on the highway There's there's a good go down one like extra block. 'cause there's a better on ramp over there so so we kinda take the scenic route. Go over their cargoes to get on the highway just in front of us. She's like just wait at the stop. Sign a little bit longer before you to give them enough room ahead write. This is my mom encouraging me drive so that so that she's like okay. We go we go together on the on ramp. She's like all right. Punch it basically right. And so i kind of just floor it and we take off like the start of the rock and roller coaster dizzy hollywood studios. That thing goes from very slow to very fast in a very short amount of time. My kids did describe it as a space mountain when when they got home and immediately told their mother about the experience but it was fun. Fun to drive and yeah. They're cool cars there there and then i asked her how how autopilot worked and she said. I don't know i don't really use that so anyway. Park your car at my house. Bomb or i will go buy a car tomorrow. I to buy a car this weekend and the car that i had been eyeballing for weeks weeks online i finally go to the dealership and someone bought it five. That it is in phase for this character is going to be. I don't know. I don't know the story will be or this. Character will be as as universally transcendent character. I know i'm trying to get the point. i'll stick i. i didn't want to go to black panther. Okay as far as far as because they know it is it is. It's the first asian american lead character in the mc on the big screen. So you know. I don't wanna become that you know. I don't wanna like automatically like go there and be like all oled. This might be the next by panther or whatever as far as just like you know as far as the cultural significance but but it like we're very well may be. Yeah yeah now. I think the moment they announced it everyone there with ed and new and the director involved and cast being predominantly as descent as well i think marvel knows what it's doing and it is. It's it's trying to make sure that it's it's being inclusive with these characters in these stories. And and i guess that's that's the other thing is not just they're having these characters appear But the stories in themsevles are are should be inundated with the culture that they are also trying to explore so number artists session of black panther talking about why was this. Called black panther not will because we'll conduct had almost a bigger presence than black panther in that movie so so i all on board Mcu continues to just make me question why we're got so invested in the cw. Super i get our in service purpose. I made the cw. It's the part of the larger thing of just. Really taking these characters that we've seen in to our two and a half hour. Whatever movie and really fleshing them in a very good way but also to your point about as you were saying with key telling telling good grounded stories with it I'll top of the usual comic book action that we that we've come to expect in these films as well so you know so. I think they've hit that. They fit that sweet spot. Doing being able to do both in a particularly and the in these new to streaming shows that we've seen so far. Yeah and so on not no. Is Amazon's New Show Really Invincible?
"I want to hear your thoughts on amazon's invincible. So you know it's funny. I sat down to watch this last night. And at first glimpse it feels like a saturday morning cartoon. When i was a kid i would wake up early. Get down on the couch gate my bowl free pebbles or whatever it was and i'd sit there and i watch like spiderman and the animated adventure the superman justice league when that became a thing. That's what this felt like. It had of nostalgic feel to me. Then as. I'm sitting there watching this like i start to feel about halfway through the episode. I started to feel like burnt out on superheroes. Like i in. I thought to myself like is this. Because i'm being over saturated with superhero related media right now because the key. We got falcon winter soldier. Wanda vision just came out. There's the boys I'm watching there with my wife and sat there wondering like is this due to like superhero fatigue. What's going on. But then i realized that. Like you know and i kind of realized this when i was reading the comic books but it has a lot of from superhero stories. That have been used before you look at. If it seems to have like a lot from superman it takes an awful lot from dragon. Ball z the planet conquerors. Right or which struggles you i. I'm i'm pretty sure. Inspired by superman justly has adventures thrown in there and a murder mystery tabu as well. So there's so many elements from getting superhero things that have been incorporated into this. And like i guess seeing it on screen really brought it to life and i sat there thinking when the episode was over. I thought to myself like. I don't know if i really wanna watch anymore of this. They're doing a party in the guys are gonna sleep over there and stuff so we're going to join in on that we're gonna get all dressed up we're gonna take the pictures and we'll just do everything but the dance essentially so it's kind of like what they did on big bang theory when they went back in time and did the yeah basically it. Well we actually have a fake dance on the roof. Either but it'll be kind of hard because what else slanted really bad. And that would be weird. I mean we try and make it work. Do a fake dance. Maybe at the when you can't you can't you can't do that so anyway but i get up at four in the morning and by the way he would get up at four in the morning for anything except for his girlfriend or celebrities or anything pop culture so there you are right there. Just say you know that. And that note. I'm canceling my trip to The high compliment savannah. Who treats you the same as his pop culture. Yeah well we should probably talk about some of the stuff that people came to listen for. Thanks for enduring us. I hope that You have a good time listening. Dust geek out about some things but anyway Samuda i at so episode to the falcon and the winter soldier is out and in typical tattooing zones fashion. We're going to spoil it all and speculate as responsibly. As we can cause a lot to speculate about. I mean we finally learned the name of aaron kelman's character there could have been in another captain america. This whole time and santa bucket. Go to couples. Therapy follow seems the all right. Then keep your secrets steps..

"This episode. I thought was it was. It was fine. I'll just give it a fine. I did like it. And it's i am ready to move forward with this. Maybe it would have benefited from them dropping two episodes maybe maybe our rating will go up after next week. Yeah i think also could have. Benefited from a little bit of a bigger pause between wind. Division in this honestly i know people are just foaming at the mouth for marvel shows. Nice month pause between the two shows. I think would have brought different feelings towards it as well. Yeah it makes you think though like that. They're sticking with this black widow release in may that they're getting this out there now because if if they were moving that they could have moved this. Yeah i see the logic there. Do you think that maybe because this feels more like a marvel movie itself as opposed to one to fill one division by default. Feeling like television. Do you think that maybe hurting our viewpoint because one division you know. You're watching that. I seventy seven near the dick van. Dyke show So you installing your mind. You're thinking okay television. You're watching this. You know falcon winter soldier. You're watching that first scene and you're sitting there thinking. Oh this could have been ripped from any of the our men or captain america movies and that may be. I don't know. I'm just trying to think that maybe i'm just sitting there thinking that i'm used to that kind of cinematic being part of a whole story in a movie where essentially i just got the first third of movie with the setup they didn't in this and that maybe two or three episodes in it might change to top wear but right now it just kind of feels like okay. I kind of wish that they would release the first two episodes at once. Like they did with wanda vision just to give us a bigger initial taste. Yeah yeah i. I'm really interested to see how it's going to go with the next two episodes especially because i mean i feels like usually in the first episode of some. They're like okay now. We were initially going to. We're going to give you a premise or going to set the hook and get you interested then in the next episode. Maybe we're gonna hit you with a little bit more exposition and start to fill in a little bit more of the world that the characters are operating in. But i know in this movie in this in this episode is i just felt like he was is laid out really really interesting that we start off with this big huge action sequence and then it's mostly just kind of like slow. Burn stuff after that. Yeah so when you earlier you said it felt like a zero episode and man it really. It really does feel like a zero episode. All the stuff that i'm wanting to see feels like it's not one hundred percent going to be in future episodes like jake was saying like with both characters you together working together with getting zemo going forward Like getting our. I like action sequence with. Us agent the new captain. America like all these things. That's what i'm really looking forward to..

"The one like the government guy is like you made the right decision son blah blah blah and. It was almost like that's what they wanted. They wanted that anyway. That at the end of the episode there handing that shield over to like the next cap. Okay and this. It just feels like they're setting. Sam up to fail here. It feels like like he goes on this solo mission. And i mean it feels like i don't know it feels like there's certain times were sam. It doesn't if you watch this. These scenes through a different lens of sam not fully trusting other people and us not being able to trust everybody. He is around when it comes to the military. I got a completely different. Feel if you just watch this as it's presented to you like we are introduced a tour as who's like his guy on the ground and seems like it's working with sam but if you watch it through this lens of like can we trust the government. Can we trust the government is doing with sam. Can we trust this mission. Like they send him on a solo mission here. No backup really except for the guys on the ground. He's basically mission where they try to like. It feels like they set them up the fail he gets there. The hijack is already started. And you know. He was told that they didn't see anybody. Enter that plane. The hijack is already started. The pilot is dead and he's trying to save this captain for reasons unknown. Then we find out that batroc is there. The last time saw. This guy was in captain america. The winter soldier remember this. Guy's a fucking what is his purpose. Why is he there. This guy was hired by nick. Fury to hijack the law marion star as a cover to uncover it. Classified information regarding project and insight. This guy is a pirate. he's a mercenary. Why does he care about basically kidnapping this captain. It feels like if this is a guy. A pirate mercenary. That's for hire did. Did the government set all this up. So that sam would fail. So that sam would not be able to get him so sandwich fell so people would lose faith in the avengers lou. Sam would lose faith in himself. It just seems it just seems like he was hired to leave this mission that i mean when when patrick was hired by nick fury it was to keep captain america in the dark about the government. Maybe maybe he was hired by the government here to make sam look bad so that he just gives up the shield and stops being here. I don't know. I felt very weird about this whole mission that they sent salmaan. What about joe sounds like dude dude. I agree with you. I think that sam is getting set up to fail. And and furthermore. I think it's because if thunderbolt ross is somehow have something to do with this thunderbolt ross does not want okay. Think about how embarrassed. The united states government was during the events of civil war when captain america was like fuck you united states government and not only that back in was a big hero..
'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' shows Marvel's 'WandaVision' wasn't a blip
"Yeah we got one episode of falcon in the winter soldier. Because this guy's soon i guess at some point is going to be captain america but you gotta learn. I use a shield. He's got to find his nuts. Yeah yeah man. So before that he still the falcon and this is coming off. The hills of disney's last marvel series division so a lot of people have been looking forward to this one and even though they're different shows there's a lot riding on his man a lot of people. A lot of people have put some high expectations on net. Well the thing with everybody is so in love with one division and all the theories and all now you come in next day like all right what you got. What can i theorized no. I'm just a straight action. Maybe a little bit political show. Yeah yeah no. That is dennis truly man. Yau don't go ahead trying to look for no details. Man is a completely different show. But that don't matter man you know once you right on the heels of a successful show you know and as it. This man ain't got enough pressure with this shield right right. The he got enough pressure would gathered american. Giving them this kind of live up to those shoes. A negative live up to one two. Let me. it's a free. Let me let me let me do me. Just mess with me. I didn't want to play with but yeah folks. How is this as we say. It is a different show but people. I don't care if it's different. Is it going to live up to the to the marble quality stand at the assets. But it has to do want to visit has the money in it A lot of people looking at this and saying you know what if you're not going to be living up to the whole thing people trying to have fun with this looking theories and whatnot. Can you live up to the quality of the production that we had and even those different can you live up to the storytelling.

"I think that is going to be extremely important. In terms of the premise of the falcon and winter soldier tv show. I think we're going to lean heavily into that I don't think is going to be a show of this. Focus on the the social undertones of and racial injustices. I don't think is going to be heavily focused on that. But i do think it will give focus to just the truth of the matter. Which is some people wouldn't want a black man to be the face of this country so it is funny to think about the fact that even back in the eighties. Sam wilson was technically really close to being chosen to be captain america anyways one one member of the cs says well how about we choose this guy. They stopped this terrorist. This john walker guy. he's very pro america and he's very he's very gung ho. He's potentially where we're looking for. And so they choose him. And he takes up the mantle of captain america. And i think this last for like muted thirty issues so so they really lean into a and they took their time with it and during this he's trained by all enough be streamed by a bunch of villains one of which being taskmaster the taskmaster and taskmaster. I think he really teaches them out how to utilize cap shield. How to use it properly and long story short. Because i don't want to say too long on on john walker here. 'cause there's other things we want to talk about too but when john walker We have to remember. Stay this guy while his intentions may mostly be good He is a tad bit mentally unstable. He's not all there I mean essentially guys like he does take dramatic does agree To to take up the mantle of captain america even though he had been talking shit about captain america. He does it force country because if that's what this country wants from him then dammit that's what he'll do so john walker does it and he becomes captain america and like i say he he just kept miracle for a pretty lengthy time but.

"You know and and there's this like i you know i remember where i was where i was sitting in the overall feeling i had when this thing blew up because i think the big thing about it was the space shuttle would launch and they would have space missions and everything but it was more like. Here's a teacher civilian and in your classroom there was a teacher who's a civilian and were just kids and And you. I don't know if it was a propaganda thing or whatever it was but it was like. Here's his person that you were told to respect. And she's like launching into space and the damn thing blow blew up and you're just like Is it is it. Just one office is just straight up doc or not. It's a series. It's a series. Yeah i don't know. I well we're not done with it so i would assume it's five to eight. I don't know how many okay very good though very well done. J.j. abrams like it's not right. Poorly done well produced but anyway and then getting into more space stuff getting into star wars and we finished the clone wars. Yeah hey just too much stuff on the screen man. Too much stuff on the screen. What do you mean in clone wars. Yeah it's just the battles against it's too much. It's i was telling clarice not to get. I mean it's an old movie. I'm not going to get into too much but briefly. When you look at the original star wars you have basic characters. Basic story lying archetypes. Yes basic archetypes. Exactly after that. The clone wars fan of medicine were about to tomorrow night. We're gonna get into revenge. The seth and everything and it's just it's too many people too many stories too many characters that you don't care about the thing about star wars cared about every one of those people you cared about vader he was the primary villain you cared about. Prince's lay you cared about everybody because without any one of them. The story couldn't carry forward the thing about the clone wars just as an example. Take any one of them. Pluck anyone out. The story is still keeps going. Everything's irrelevant right. And that's you know and that's just the we can argue that you know till kingdom come. I guess but. I don't know that plays that. Plays into what i watched this week. I i watched grow guan again. Okay i like rogue one i like. Yeah so rogue one is it really. It is a complete counter to the point of what you're saying where each one of the characters is is completely you care about every single one of them right down to kate. Uso exist like it leaves you into a new ho- it leads you in a new hope but even as a standalone it's just like it's just really really quality character development in each one of the characters has a purpose and they served their purpose. And and you don't. You don't feel like any of them should you. It really hits you in the gut because the spent the first half or i two thirds of the movie rooting for and caring for these characters and then they kill brody and you're just like brody..

"Let me put it this way just to give a premonition to what we're watching we're going through all the star wars in release order like we were talking for the past few weeks one star. Wars is done release order. We're gonna get into all of the marvels again with the boys. We got to replace all of them again. But that's okay though. I actually like the boys never saw. And we're gonna watch it again. That'll be fun but it's new to them. It'll be it'll have new new meaning for you. Yeah exactly and and you know what the older i get. Every day is a new day. You know so. They'll be new to me too. So who's the villain. I guess it's civil war. My my internet is not working. But it's the it's the cer- cook. Yeah so it's gotta be civil war. It's the guy who makes them make segovia cords. It's the guy that looks like the winter soldier like. He tries to impersonate the winter soldier. Oh yeah yeah yeah. Yeah and it's kind of a dark dark storyline. Bryce still does not like the murders in that in the civil war because they're kind of like brutal in the bathtub. You know kind of all spy murders but yeah no. This is amazing. This looks great. I like the musical score. Yeah and it feels like we're ramping up. I know also to preview a little bit. You know the juan division were both watching. It feels like we're ramping up to this and to think this really feels like a movie. Doesn't it it feels like a marvel. Movie with the the action in the set pieces that they showcase through this trailer wait. The falcon and winter soldier is not a movie. It's a series skit out. I didn't even know that it's a sh- movie. Come on man. It's going to be eighty right. It's it looks like it looks at the set pieces in the action in this. Look like it's a full blown movie. So wow i think wanna vision was the slow bill to something that his could be movie. Ask but you know a little more twin peaks..
New trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres during Super Bowl
"Want to talk a little bit about the falcon and the winter soldier trailer for we get into one division. Do yeah thank you for giving me that opportunity. This show looks like it's bad boys. That's what they're doing and that's good. I think that's good. I think it's fine. I think it's fine but my my not hot but it's not cold take is the pandemic did feigen favor. That's my take wanda vision. It is better for the brand long-term clearly there was some jitters whether it's been good short term for their push into television in onto disney blues. But better for the brand long-term to have something that was formerly interesting slightly surprising in unexpected launch. It whereas this feels. I'm sure it's gonna be entertaining. I'm hundred percent going to watch it with you. But it feels like the safest possible thing you could do to transition an action movie franchise to the small screen.
Falcon and Winter Soldier Trailer Breakdown
"But you and i are also excited on wants to come for falcon and the winter soldier which had its trailer today and even though it didn't give away too much it did show baron zemo back out and about looking to go ahead and restart his mission or finishes mission as he said it also showed the flag smashers which was an individual in the comics which seems to be now seemingly a group. That's giving falcon winter soldier problems. But the biggest problem between falcon in the winter soldier is themselves getting along and making them more. Like a buddy comedy. So i want to hear your thoughts on the trailer for falcon and the winter soldier. I thought it was kind of funny. How they started out. I mean they're obviously kind of in a therapy session and we know that they're going to have to learn to work together but they've always had the kind of argumentative relationship but they sort of bicker at each other. So i think we're gonna see that throughout the series until maybe hopefully at the end they can work better with each other. I'm super excited to see where the villains go. I think we don't really know that much about what's going on. In terms of the antagonists of the series are seem to be so many different forces at play here so we don't really know if they're all working together or they're just different forces against falcons in the winter soldier. But what i really like seeing from the trailer and we saw this in the last trailer from the disney investor. Day is the action which. I don't see people talking about this. The action scenes. They look like proper marvel movies. And that's really exciting for me to see like falcon flying through canyons and it looks like it looks really good. It looks like disney has spared. No expense as you

Were about to get a big glimpse into Disney Pluss future
"Has been having a huge year and the company is poised hold investor meeting on thursday. To preview with the service will look like in twenty twenty one so joe. what are you expecting. Yeah we're gonna get pretty much the the layout of where disney plus goes from here. That could mean a number of things but surely it's going to mean that we get a better sense of what programming is going to be coming to disney. Plus next year as well as how i think disney is going to kind of officialize the role that disney plus plays only in the pandemic in these extraordinary circumstances but even after the pandemic when Things have whenever that may be when things go back to semi normal the role that streaming generally is gonna play four disney's entire operation. Everything that it touches on. That's a good because it seems like over this last year that they've been making some moves to really position busy plus as the core It's really the future for this company. Yeah you know. That's one of the kind of question marks that we're going to be answering not weather streaming is important disney because they've said that they're going to realign television programming infrastructure around the idea that streaming is the primary focus Disney of course. Everyone knows it for movies in the marvel movies and stars and for parks but it also owns. Abc broadcast network of course disney channels espn. So we know that streaming is going to become the central programming tenant of how it approaches the content that it creates but we don't know is whether disney plus is going to be there numero uno primary focus considering that they also have espn plus and hulu as other streaming services in addition to streaming service india. And so i think this event has also been answered. The questions do do they continue to have three services that operate separately in the us. Do they wrap them all into one. And have you know a giant. Do they make it into more closely net bundles. we really don't know how they're going to be. Approaching streaming given that they have three services and have said that stream is going to be such a high priority. Going forward gotten and this year saw the launch of peacock discovery plus. Hbo max and of course the dearly departed qube. How did how does he plus or stand above this crowded field because for me seem like it was one of the clear winners this year. Nobody came close to disney. Plus i mean no. That's not only in this past year when there have been when there's been such a frequency of new services launching like even any services launch before disney plus no service has had as explosive a rollout as ni plus has and. There's a lot of reasons for that. And we can get into it but really at this point disney plus it at about one year since its launch it hits seventy three million subscribers. Now that's still a far cry away from netflix. Which is you know head and shoulders way ahead of everybody. At almost two hundred million subscribers will ride but the things to keep in mind our disney got to seventy three million in one ear and they also did it when other services that have been rolling out. Got to maybe eight million got to In the case of Be did so poorly that they shuttered could be shuttered in like six months. Seven months It's not it's not like you show up and watch a streaming service and you're guaranteed to just you know attract wasps and parades of people. It's really hard to do but disney has compared to anybody else that's launched a new streaming service. It's done leagues better than any anybody any other. That has come before. Normally i mean a lot of that has to do with the mandalorian. The buzzer baby. Yoda starwood a general marble is. It's other big franchises. And we've yet to see any real real program yet. We will come january one vision in terms of this investor event. We can we expect to see more out of one vision as well. Some of these other big mar marvel products coming down the pike. Yeah i mean. We don't know exactly what they're going to be showing but you can expect that we're going to get some something about one of which is coming up on january fifteenth. It's going to be released on disney. Plus i'm sure they're gonna want to show off footage from that to get people excited about it. We might have questions answered about when the other marvel original series. These are the movies like these are the shows like one division that are tightly-knit within the marvel cinematic universe the same actors that play characters in the movies are playing those characters on the series. And we still don't know when the falcon and winter soldier show is going to be coming. We don't want no win. The low key shows coming. There's a hawkeye show coming. And then there's a whole slate that goes even beyond that that we don't have any details on so in terms of just specifically marvel. I'm sure we're going to get a lot of updates on that. Were the other big story in streaming last week. Was when hbo max came out and dropped the bomb said all its warnermedia films in twenty one films like suicide squad in dune will drop on the service. Same day as theorist It's endemic related. So they're extraordinary circumstance surrounded. What do you think that means the industry. And how do you think dizzy I think that disney probably already had a game plan in place about what they're gonna do for their gigantic big budget. Tentpole movies next year The question is whether or not they adapt that plan based on the fact that a week before what that plan was going to be announced this thursday no matter what and the question is one week before that event when hbo and warner brothers announced that not only will they be releasing all their all their movies next year on streaming also gonna make it free with no extra cost on each hbo. Max so you don't have to pay for example with disney plus the structure. They kind of set out that they might do. Is there milan. Release when the live action. Updates and milan couldn't really be released in theaters in the traditional blockbuster style way They released it on disney plus the same day that it wasn't theaters but they charged an extra thirty dollar fee in order to stream it so it was available what's known as day that's win streaming home video and theatrical release are at the same time it was available day and date but you had to pay a lot more money to get it what disney has said. And what did you see. Yo- hinted is that they've learned a lot from that milan release and they expect to give us. Give everyone an update. On what what. They called premier access. What that's gonna look like going forward. Will that mean that. They'll continue to stick with this thirty dollars. Price point will that mean that they've they're going to release only their biggest biggest biggest movies with an extra fee. Or are they gonna follow suit from. Hbo and just say hey. We're not gonna make you charge a fee at all. We're going to put it on disney plus for everyone to watch as soon as available. We just don't know exactly those details. But i'm sure we're going to get some clarity about what expect with all these movies. That people are really missing. That three dollar from along was announced stirred up a controversy. A lot of the gut reaction was. Why am i paying three dollars on top of this attraction fee. But they've actually talked about this. Maybe you know more. But we got an indication. Powell moulana actually did that was actually a blueprint for success or Dollar seated scare people. This i mean this question. Touches on one of the frustrating elements about movies like milan or like a marvel movie going to streaming. And that's you know we. It's a black box in a way it's not entirely blackbox. But it's not like when a movie is in theaters. Those box office reports. You know you can't fudge You can't lie about them and he can't keep them secret either like it's just like out there. People know if a movie tanked or movie was a smash success because it's we have those metrics but when something goes straight to streaming we don't know we don't really know except for what disney has told us and i haven't told us anything specific about how in london they've general things that tech companies from the tech world. They'd like to say like we're very pleased with the response and delighted customers and blah blah blah blah blah. But that doesn't really tell us what their expectations were and whether or not milan exceeded expectations or failed to reach them. Not any native nice for for this thursday event if they're tuning or they're looking forward to seeing a flood of trailers or sneak peeks into these upcoming shows any advice for them or or warning. These things tend to be more investor. Focus at what. what are you expecting. Or what can these folks expect. Yeah it'll definitely be. It's an investor day and if passed is any precedent than it'll be a very long presentation. Maybe not as long as i don't know we're used to apple presentations with gone for like what feels like four years so it's going to be a long presentation but there will be designed for an audience of analysts investors and press And so it's not meant to be a consumer events that said even though there will be an emphasis on things like projections for Subscriber growth and like you know what is it are words that like normal people don't care about at all this is disney like show business is their business and they know how to impress people.
Netflix’s The Devil All the Time
"Netflix, now available for streaming the devil All the time is an ensemble crime drama Little film Noir ish with a bit of the grizzly to it, And it kind of recalls the cone brothers in their blood. Simple Fargo dark, twisted mode, but this has none of their mordant humor and in two hours and You know, 18 minutes, it does meander a bit here and there. Still, I thought it was a good one. Presenting this web of circumstances happened stances consequences that Titan's over the course of three decades, the forties fifties and sixties between two rural towns and a couple of families. One of the towns in Ohio, one of the towns in West Virginia, there a couple hours apart. And through these various inter related characters, you get a portrait of violence, seediness and perversity on DH, you know, and some of these characters are dedicated the religion, But that doesn't necessarily mean that good things were gonna happen to them, and the cast is First rate. Tom Holland plays Arvin Who's this quietly righteous grown up? Son of a good guy G I, who comes back from World War two, marries a waitress moves her and baby Arvin and do a fixer upper in the woods. And his dogged by tragedy that's almost biblical, and that that carries over to others whose lives were connected in the story, By the way, the role played by Holland. Yes, Spider Man himself. It's his closest you get to a heroic lead in the movie, and this British actor is pretty convincing as a young American from that part of the country. It's like he was bit by a radioactive hillbilly. I mean, really Totally thrilled with Tom Holland. Where can we watch this? The devil all the time? Yeah, it's good stuff. Bill Scars guard son of Stellan, brother of Alexander, best known in the States as Pennywise, the clown in the movies. He's He plays the father, and there's no trace of Pennywise here. Jason Clark, Riley Keogh Robert Pattinson, the new Batman in the Old Twilight vampire plays the young creature who's not above reproach. And surprisingly stocky, Sebastian stand the winter soldier from the Marvel movies as the Vincent Donofrio role of the power hungry local sheriff whose morals are questionable and we get it. It's a good movie again, not greatness. The director screenwriter here is Antonio Campos, and he adapts the devil all the time. The the book by Donald Ray Public who is actually the Narrator here and there. I always say show don't tell, but I was caught up in the desperation of all those involved. Often this thing and stayed with it until the bitter end. That's available on Netflix. As
Interview With Barbara Kopple
"I, know I'm not alone this. I'm on record as naming Harlan, county USA, one of the best documentaries ever. Made I taught it and American dream once in a class on cinema verite. So Barbara Cop bullets genuinely thrilled to have you on film spotting. Thanks for coming on That's nice to hear. Thank you very much. Of course I was four when the events of desert one played out. So I guess I'll use that as my excuse but I, have to confess I really had no idea. Story was going to unfold when I started watching and the story I did get surprised me. So was that partly what drew you to this story that it's a mission that a lot of Americans may not be aware of or have forgotten about chosen to forget about Exactly, the history channel is GonNa do hundred feature found based on history that people really wouldn't know that much about And so does it one was one of them they ended up on these doing for five and so. We're rocky that we got to do this. and. I just love death because I just felt that desert one really is a story that needed to be if you know for me. Story of heroism, a reminder of the horrors of war and it also. It's so rennaissance today because it looks the roots of the conflict between the US and the Iranian government. And plus I just really wanted to do. Because the guys are so incredible, their their diet who'd never really got do and they went because they wanted to rescue fifty two hostages who had been you know taken by the Iranian students. So not knowing the story, I'll also confess I, assumed it was going to be a story of American triumph and in some ways it is you mentioned it is a tale of heroism. It's definitely a tale of great courage but it is a failed mission and the failed missions aren't the ones history typically remembers or wants to revisit. It sounds like that was also an angle that appealed to you. Yeah. from people have this motto had the guts to try. And From this. Ham. A lot of really incredible things like it's organization called the Special Operations, Warrior Foundation and also was really the first time that special forces wherever put together you know marine and navy and everybody in now special forces are together you know on different missions that they go and so it was the start of that. Thinking about desert one in relation to some of the other documentaries you've made the to mention. For example, you give a voice there to people who are often voiceless overlooked. I'm thinking of course of the of the miners and the meatpackers, and it's not the soldiers whose missions are unsuccessful as we touched on whose stories are typically told, but that's what you've done and so I'm curious if that was a conscious choice on your part or are you just naturally drawn to telling those kinds of stories and giving voice to those people? Yeah. That's what I love doing more than anything is. Really getting to know people that you narrowly. No are you have stereotypical feelings about and let them tell their story and let them think D- I've done two other films about the military one was. Found with the collective of people called winter soldier, which was about Vietnam veterans, telling stories about what happened in Vietnam, and then another one in two thousand and fifteen called shelter, which was about homeless veterans and a really wonderful friend of Mine Day of Marist. News did a lot of the singing and Harlan County USA was a homeless that and he was sorted the center of the film as we went to different places where they were homeless and he saying he told stories than it was quite
Midnight Moment 4 - Voter ID and A Conspiracy Theory - burst 1
"Jury of Nation. Part hair and it's time for another installment of Liberty Virus via the midnight moment delivery system. that. I was night three of the Democrat National Convention Day One, hundred, sixty, fifteen days flattening curb. It allows unlucky enough to over here made me throw up in my mouth a little bit I gotta be honest with you wanted to wash the taste out with out. But. In the end, I settled for for a Nice Cup of coffee. George Carlin one said I don't have pet peeves. I have made major psychotic fucking hatreds. So in the spirit of both George Carlin and my complete total annoyance with current events, we're going to cover two topics with you. Tonight the first is a voter ID, and the second as a self developed spiracy theory that I would like your indulgence to entertain as strictly a mental exercise though in our society, there are things you. Have to show ID for buying a gun getting prescription painkillers buying alcohol buying. We'd words legal of course, a buying porn. You have to show ID at the DMV the board, an airplane to board trained drive an automobile the list goes on and on and on survivor is going to be required to do any of the above things or you know conduct adulting in any way as it always is lot why states not have a? Statute that requires valid identification busted as yourself that question for a second, you may not like the answer I mean Article One section. Four of the US Constitution states the times, places and manner of holding elections for Senators and representatives shall be prescribed in each state by the legislature thereof. But the Congress may at any time by law make or alter such regulations except as to places of choosing senator I mean there was. An assumption clearly present in our constitution that citizens right to vote is protected under free speech under the First Amendment. But in a citizen right the but I mean article two section one clearly spells out that our founders framers specified who could and couldn't be president no person except the natural born citizen or citizen of the United States at the time of this adoption of this constitution shall be eligible to the office of the president. Neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained? The age of thirty five years have fourteen years been a residence within the United States our founders and framers carved out specifics. Do you really believe they had any intention any intention at all for non citizens to vote in our elections? Give me a break. So if they're going to push the agenda and by the way I'm speaking to leftists and liberals who seem to think that showing identification at a polling place is somehow minority voter suppression Oh really then I say, well, no, I devote no idea by guns no background checks ever for anything. No idea to buy booze or weed. Or board a plane. Is it. Any wonder that liberal states have started issuing driver's licenses to illegal immigrants? Because if somehow some way. We restore common sense in order to our republic and require a valid form of identification vote illegal immigrants will be their voters and their voting block. I'm not suggesting we give up the right to an anonymous ballot that's absolutely protected by the First Amendment I get it. No. One has stating that your driver's license number be attached to your ballot. But. If you can't get into a bar without id if you can't buy liquor without ID, why should you be able to access the polling place? I just want to point out and make it clear the blatant outright shitting hypocrisy and quite frankly left racism in the claim that somehow requiring an idea vote is minority suppression really I mean here in Colorado most liquor stores that I frequent require id for every transaction and believe me I do not look twenty one or younger bars and nightclubs in this area often use a barcode scanners. Id and I know that it's that way in some other states, somehow all of this is okay but somehow requiring an ID to vote arguably the most violent in the world voting is minority voter Suppression Racist Bull Shit. So as the assertion that minorities by the way don't have an ID or don't have the ability or somehow incapable of getting one, I mean the bring specificity again. Zona adults over the age of eighteen are required. To carry ID at all times. That's whether you're walking down the street driving your car or otherwise, and that has been in effect since World War. Two, this is not something new. This is not something that the Clintons or the bushes or anyone else do any time in recent history this has been the law of the land for literally decades. Whether that laws right or wrong as up to you. But really do we really need any more outside influence in our country regardless of what the political spectrum you stand on our guys we've got another segment coming up right after this break. A conspiracy theory I fully admit it. I have no evidence of this except what may be going on around us and some thoughts that I have from the Golden Age of talk, radio in the nineties I sometimes get what I refer to as nuggets of Universal Truth from what most people would consider fairly odd sources. You know movies, songs, sports, overhearing pieces of a conversation, etc one of the things that was kind of profound to me and rain true didn't I didn't really understand the time was the movie captain America the Winter Soldier. Now there's a scene again. Tomorrow will because they're fantastic and I'm going to kind of summarize here there's a scene where they're in a bucket in they're talking to basically an all German scientists. Brain is good put on on a computer and all creepy but isn't that scene they talk about humanity's freedom came. and. One of the things that they said was if you try to take that freedom, they resist humanity needed to surrender. It's freedom willingly. And they finally created a world. So chaotic that you vanity was ready to surrender it's freedom for its own security. Now I know that sounds bizarre and maybe I'm maybe I'm just being paranoid maybe I'm suffering from the Kobe. Kobe lockdown paranoia or whatever you want to call it. The understand this if you wanted to usher in a gestapo-type National Police Force. It had no loyalty to the constitution but only the politicians you know Kinda like Nazi Germany. What would you do? Well. First of all, you'd have to get the police to quit. So if you control the purse strings for the police, department what better way to get them to quit than it, cut their wages, cut their budget and then make them liable for I. Don't know everything. What if he told them to stand down while like Portland Eighty. Three nights of rioting destroys property assaulting assaulting citizens decade the police to quit what about like new? York. They cut the budget of Major Crimes Unit and shootings have gone up. To three hundred percent. Since that happened now, I wanNA make it clear that I do not support a national police force now. Yes we can argue that yes, we have we have federal agents the DA's the ATF the FBI etc. But none of them are actively patrolling the streets but how do you do it? How do you implement a Gestapo of social justice warriors that are essentially thought police, which is what the what's the leftist seem to want anyone that that goes contrary to their narrative anyone that disagrees with any they say politically. Well if you get all the local cops to quit, you have to have something because your citizens will not bag. For protection somebody did is friendly to that idea wins the White House than the Federal Police Force. Is created and then we end up like Nazi Germany. They're already talking about making kids where buttons identified that they either have or have not been vaccinated for Covid. Nineteen. One. Just go out and do yellow stars. Pink triangles. Any sense does you have to question yourself and even do the mental exercise of what's the end game now? This Shit I. GotTa Tell Ya None of it looks good. Marvel’s Avengers DLC Characters Leaked
"There's been a massive avengers data mine leak. This is from sub Reddit user six plus four equals fifty two on the marvels vendors sub Reddit fifteen unannounced characters have reportedly been data mined from the Marvel's avengers bad. And before we get into it, I gotta Say I'm pretty excited about this like this game I'm. AM. Higher on it than I ever thought I would have been after playing it but I'm still not where I. Wish I was you. You're talking about what the Batman Games like I wish this was just a single player vendors game, but it's not we're getting this online multiplayer. From what from what I've played it like the single player Linnea Thurs cinematic stuff is definitely the stuff I've enjoyed most but like this list is exciting for the same reason that I was really excited to find out the model was going to be essentially the main character of the story which is yeah. Give some love to some of these characters that haven't been big enough to be MC you. Staples yet like those are the gangs that are going to get the people come list I'm excited out totally, and before I even read the list I, WanNa point out that we're in a very interesting place with marvel right now when it comes to licensing their characters out both for movies for TV stuff but mainly for video games is what I'm talking about because what we've seen in the last. Five six years have been some pretty interesting and. Not Great Decisions made on the licensing front of Marvel versus Capcom Infinite for example, where it was very clear that marvel had a heavy hand in what characters are chosen not chosen like having no X. Men in that game is just San. Right, that's the thing is there's definitely wild model has only been interested can use it to mock it the MC you otherwise, we don't really care like. You don't want. We don't want to get it. If it's one of the properties that like show, we can put the X. men in a game, but someone else owns the film tonight. So why would we totally and that's I think where we really getting hit with X. men minute fantastic four particular but. He's not just above marvel studios, but he's also kind of above marvel as a whole. I think we're GONNA start seeing a lot more synergy in a way that doesn't feel as a things are being excluded but more as like a well rounded thing to get people more familiar with the smaller characters or different characters smaller not even the right. That, we might not used to seeing constantly constantly constantly. With Mc, you can say that Oh the EMC you. Is only focusing on the same things. Then you introduced the world to guardians of the galaxy so it's like They're doing great stuff too. But so looking at the list here, we got AAH man the Wasp Vision Black Panther Doctor Strange Falcon Marvel mockingbird quake winter soldier scarlet Captain Marvel Kate. Bishop. She Hulk and machine. Pretty Great List yeah definitely, there's a few really good ones on that like I I'm really excited at that. Kate. Bishop is on that because. Clearly the better Hawkeye. More. Interesting character by alone shot. Kate Bishop does not get enough love and I'm very to see that like, yeah. Yeah. Get
Where are all the Asian Beardsmen?
"In November of twenty seventeen filmmaker Justin. Chang decided agrout his facial hair for the first time I had never tried to grow out my facial hair before because I was just scared to do so like I wasn't sure how it's GonNa turn out you know. My Dad actually has a pretty boss mustache. And he's known as the Asian Guy with the mustache but I didn't know if I had heard of those genes just in his Chinese American and he says people always treated his dad's moustache like an exception to the norm. A lot of Asian. People were impressed that he could grow it out. On a lot of non Asian people read more impressed and sort of I think I signed him like these masculine values. That a lot of Asian American men MM stereotypically are not granted I think part of that too is because he grew up in Tennessee and Texas and in the sal you know facial hair was even more of a signal. Oh masculinity down there and it helped him get by email. Think that something like phase. Here's that big of a deal but like everything communicates. Justin didn't go up in the south like his dad ad. But he's from San Bernardino California where they're also wasn't a very big Asian community just an always has some scruff but he had never let his facial hair grow now in his late twenties he was about to travel across the country to film a documentary. I found my own production company called J school and we focus on telling stories of underrepresented represented people in other words people caller women and the Lgbtq community and movember provided him with an excuse movember also known as no shave. November is an annual event where men are encouraged to grow mustaches for the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues. The Movember Foundation a global men's health a charity which began in two thousand three has always focused on educating man about prostate cancer. Anticipation cancer but in twenty seventeen they expanded their mission to include spreading awareness about mental health issues and suicide prevention in issue that was really meaningful to Justin quick onto warning. There's a short mention of suicide coming. Yeah I had a friend when I was younger. Who took her life and it really is what I attributed sparking my career path onto a creative journey and it was my only outlet when I I was younger to write in sort of tell stories as a coping mechanism from when my friend died so when I saw that Movember had expanded its causes to also covering suicide aside if I like the perfect kind of aligning of the stars that I want to try going on? Facial hair was 'cause I believed in and since he was on the road working on his film there there was no one around the laugh at me if it look bad so he started growing at his facial. Hair Okay Caroline. I think this is a good time to admit that we don't have much personal experience. Dance with facial hair right ADA and we're also not Asian American men but we've decided to explore this topic Asian American men and facial hair. Because we've heard it's a thing he's like kind of a thing right now. It's definitely think there was even this article called. Why Asians Dread Movember about difficulties? Some Asian men have growing facial higher. I laughed because I get it. I understand because I know that. Some dudes can't you know what I mean just like hey some dudes like me aren't six feet tall. You know what I mean. It's like you're dealt a hand play it. I do think that there is something very specific about men feeling like they can do anything that that they see other men being able to do. I know some Very Very Astute East Asia gentlemen and if I'm really breaking down what I feel too was them. It's probably jealousy and breaking you know whether jealousy comes from this idea that they can fit into Western perceptions of masculinity better than I can also. It's important to question when you hear the phrase. He's Asian men and facial hair. Do you think of East Asian men Southeast Asian men South Asian men. These communities can have very different issues regarding facial the hair I grew up in a six. I don't have a choice. Beer's become such a hip thing so for me. It's very interesting to observe because I keep a beard for very different reasons. Both to my parents were really worried about me going airports because I mean I'm a brown dude with a beard people get uncomfortable. I can see it in old y people's faces when I am boarding a plane so this is our investigation. What's the vocabulary we don't know what does that have? A Moustache flavor saver. Chinstrap is just like when it goes your sideburns. Connect your cheekbones connect your Chin and how do other people feel about their facial hair. This is something that loves those bugging let me about to because she was so good looking back in the day but first. Let's go back to Justin so he's on the road traveling across the country doing interviews for a documentary series called ritual which is about NFL players and their pre-game superstition and he's also a few weeks into his facial. Missile Hair journey by week three like I had a pretty good moustache. I was pretty sure wasn't able to grow a full beard. I was manicuring it the best I could. He's googling photos those of Johnny Depp. Michael B Jordan and Robert Downey junior to get inspiration on how to style his facial hair into a goatee one day. He was in Denver Filming. Maria's Thomas a a superstar wide receiver for the Denver Broncos who also happen to be doing movember for the first time and he actually flies out a barber from la every every couple of weeks to do his hair and he was doing well for the first time too and his barber was giving him shit basically for being like him. Ed Others Asian duties grown up way better than you can. You can't beat the Asian Guy. So how did that make Justin fail. I dig any offense to it even though like it clearly had racial overtones overtones because I get what he was saying like. They didn't expect me to have such a full mustache. Goatee and this Guy Thomas. WHO's like obviously way tougher for the Niamh as an NFL player? He could barely grow the peach fuzz. It was just kind of a very self aware moment where you're like. Damn I can't handle a tackle or run. The forty yard dash or catch a touchdown in the end zone or win the super bowl ring like he can but for damn sure I cannot gross facial hair this might sound like a nice happy ending of Justin's the number story but it's just the beginning he soon finds out that not everyone has positive reactions to his facial hair one of my friends who will remain nameless she goes. How's your new former birth control but we'll come back to them later so we've learned not the ability or inability to go facial hair can be a source of insecurity or pride for certain men men but for most it's still purely aesthetic choice just like I put my hair in a ponytail or choose whether to wear makeup a certain way for a lot of men facial hairs away the former identity through their appearance? But what if your facial hair could actually affect your job prospects. We're going to take you to Hollywood where your appearance. Especially as an Asian man competing for a limited amount of rules can either get you a coveted role or lead to rejection desmond. Jim I'm an actor on generic barnacles implant season villain in season two saga shake hosts. A podcast called the Bollywood boys and I have facial head. Desmond is an Australian actor Who's been in shows like reef break now chocolates and missionary chronicles and most recently got cast in Marvel's Falcon and the winter soldier? Saga was in a web series called unfair ugly about a Muslim American family in Orange County. He is the Co host of the PODCAST. Bollywood boys and on the cast of the sketch comedy. Show that get Brown. We got them in a room together to talk about their facial hair. Visual here right now is recently shaven. It's an attempt at the Tony Stock Goatee and I haven't pulled it off in addition to Desmond's goatee. He also has long black hair. That goes just past his shoulders that he sometimes wears in half ponytail. Saga wears his hair shorter but he has a full beard like like the beard. Easiest of beards that anyone could possibly have. My beard hair is like as thick as wire. It feels like wires. You're coming out of my face from every possible poor. It's pretty intense. It's a lot of maintenance earns when saga says his beard was high maintenance. He wasn't joking so a lot of work. You you know like I got a shampoo rush it so the shampoo can get like in their condition. It I brush it against the conditioner. Rinse that out and I tell dry air dry for like five minutes. I blow dry. I gave some beard oil and brush that in and I gave moustache wax soccer. Who is Pakistani American? started his acting career without facial hair. In the beginning he wasn't booking anything his agents eventually dropped him. He says he started growing his beard out of laziness. I remember the first year that I grew out my beard. Maybe maybe four or five conversations that I had daily whereabout my beard. The first thing anybody would say to me would be dude sick beard bro. Dude how did we get itself full on my God. That's such a nice beard things like that easier or fuck. It feels like okay. It's catching atun on. People are watching me. I'm doing something right. At least I can grow a beard to get some people's attention because like in this industry you can be Super Knbr talented by the look and you're not going to be seen and so definitely helped get me into a lot of doors in two dozen fourteen. He started art decorating his beard and putting the photos on instagram. We're in Venice and we're sitting like this grassy area and there was like these little white flowers I I was like hold on analogy. Hey grab fifteen of ood beard and then I posted a photo on instagram and got like a couple of hundred likes and this is when like getting a couple of hundred likes. It was like Oh shit. This guy got a couple of hundred likes. He also decorated his beard for Christmas using miniature ornaments and for Easter. He put peeps committee eggs in his beard with toothpicks. By November of two thousand fifteen he had collected a series of these beard photos and a reporter from buzzfeed interviewed for story. The article coincidentally came out the day. Okay before his ten year high school reunion which he thought about skipping. I was really hesitant because people have done things and like they're working regular jobs they are married and have kids and like what do I have. You know I was what twenty eight I feel like. I haven't accomplished anything at this time. Caroline did you go to your high school reunion being in no did you. Yeah I I still have really good friends from high school so I thought it was Super Fun but I totally get it. If you don't don't WanNa go but it sounded like he wanted to go. He just needed a confidence booster and that oddly enough came from his
We finally get to see what Disney Plus is all about (The 3:59, Ep. 543)
"Three fifty nine or mortgaging. I'm I'm or finally gonna get some details on the highly anticipated Disney, plus streaming video service. Disney is planning to hold a shareholder event to show off service later today. And hopefully, give us a glimpse of some of the projects in the works. We we know there's a metal orienteer- is out. That's already in the works. There are shows potentially around Hawkeye winter soldier and falcon LOKI not to mention all the Pixar and Disney legacy stuff and going forward. All all the Disney movies will be streamed exclusively on the service. Look just give me the Simpsons as like its own streaming service. Only the Simpson you pay for that. Yeah. Well, x already has actually new Disney owns ox, right? So they could they can incorporate the Simpsons into the bottle bundled service. Yeah. Just gimme a like. I always enjoyed boomerang that like throwback Cartoon Network. Yeah. If they just had that with like throwback, Disney and car. Tunes on the Simpsons. Like, that's I can see myself. Is there price you'd pay for this Irving, like five bucks? Wow, cheap. Yeah. We don't know the prices. Hopefully, we get some details on the pricing. Netflix right now is right around thirteen or so I think it's like the main price so or fifteen so the price they Jack the price up. So we know that Disney has said the price will be lower a little bit lower than the Netflix. Charged. But obviously the catalog or the smaller the will see we'll keep the keep up today with with all details from Joan at the event the big story this morning, Julius on getting arrested now the Ecuadorian withdrawn its asylum. You got the details going on. So he was Ecuador's withdrawn its asylum, and then he was arrested by UK police over skipping his bail in twenty twelve and along with that the US is also trying to extradite him over hacking charges up from two thousand ten they're alleging that he had helped Chelsea Manning hack. Basically department of defense documents sh she had sent over a password to him that the hashed password and asked for basically tried getting his help to to hack in log into it to get more documents. He's also being accused of trying to elicit more documents out of Chelsea Manning, which is very different than what a journalist, Anna. Would do like you can't you. It's not really protect continue soliciting those documents. They're arguing that this is this basically falls under espionage. And you're just listening to Assange, his lawyer talk. Yes. And talk little of the defense that the plan to use. So they have essentially dismissed these hacking charges. They're saying that that's just a small element of what Julian Assange has done. This is an attack on the press. This is not charge surrounding computer hacking or anything like that. But obviously, the US government has very different things to say about that. Right. All right. Amazon workers are potentially listening on your Alexa conversations. What's what's this about? I mean, it's not potentially. They are. It's it's there. They already may not listen to your exact converse. Yes. So Bloomberg came out with a report yesterday with spoken up to seven employees of at Amazon that work on the Alexa team, and they're actively listening into conversations, but it's not like live like. It's not like the moment. You say recorded recorded commands to Alexa, that sometimes you might not like it might not understand correctly. So it's kinda like a transcription service where they listen to it. And if the computer if Alexa gets it wrong, they kinda just type out to say like listen, oh, he meant to say Taylor swift three meant to say put all right, right? Something else. The problem with that is that there they've been talking about these conversations recorded conversations internally within internal chatrooms. And there been some scenarios that are really if he so there was one case where they had heard a potential sexual assault happening oggi's, and they wanted to report it to police in an Amazon worker had basically stopped that inside. You know, this is not a place Ramdan to interfere. But yeah, there are real people listening to these conversations that you're having with your device, which is a major privacy concern for many. Yep. Definitely a Lhasa checkout. Derek or second piece looking at the use of tech on. On the border. There are drones cameras and sensors already use endure really kinda looked at how they were being used in the first piece the second really looks at how some folks may not think more tech is the answer. Wally stories because I'm seeing that Roger Jiang. I'm Frank listening.
