"It's here. And now this year, at least 322,000 Americans have died from covert 19. It could be difficult to fathom the humanity behind those numbers. How do we activate our own empathy when we've been so humbled by this tragedy? Well, that's the essential work of faces of covert, a project that shares the stories of the people behind the statistics. This one from member station W. Bur, features Karen Nelson, many of Lynnfield, Massachusetts. Karen and her husband, Stephen T. Richard, were both infected with the coronavirus in early March. Both became gravely ill on Lee Karen survived. When coronavirus reach the area. I was already really sick with a Sinus infection, so I was pretty rundown, but Stephen and I, we went to depths of illness that we had neither of us had ever experienced before. Uh, On the morning of ST Patrick's Day, he became gravely ill, and that's when I said to him. I'm gonna call an ambulance and he said no, he said, Please drive me and so I drove him to Winchester Hospital. And when we got there, you know there was a staging area because it was total pandemonium and they came out and they took him immediately because he was so sick And when he got out of the car, he turned around and he smiled at me. And he said, I love you when he blew me a kiss. That was the last time I saw him. Met Stephen through a mutual friend and I looked at him and I thought, my God, he's the boy next door. Steven was he was probably about 58 in height. He was, you know, very good health. You know good shape because he was so physical in his work as a contractor and had very kind loving eyes. Hey, was passionate about Children and animals, neither of which he had way tried getting pregnant but went through seven rounds of in vitro and it didn't work. It was a very sensitive, gentle soul mean we had a very charmed life together, and the beautiful part of that is It wasn't lost on me In the moment like I I could look back and appreciate it now, but in the moment I knew how special it was. Way had a tradition on Christmas morning that we never did big, big gifts so we would do stockings and our traditions were, we would put a clementine in the toe of the stocking, and we would fill the stocking with gifts. We would have the Eric Tink Stad Nancy Rumble CD called The Gift would be playing in the background and we would eat poppycock in bed. It's kind of like Cracker Jacks on steroids, and that is one of my biggest fears is Christmas Morning and not Having.

"Give the go ahead for the first to prove covert vaccine anywhere in the western world of the United States expects it's not going to be far behind. But the unprecedented and rapid timetable off this vaccine development has some very hesitant to actually get the vaccination will be some side effects that we always with everything. They're always some side effects. People will have some people are paying their arms. I expect people to have some people that have fever in the 1st 24 hours. Those are common. It's Dr Ashish John. He is with Brown University in Rhode Island, offering those words of comfort and for the people who have already gotten sick with covert 19. No, it's a fight that could be for your life WBC's drew Mahal and spoke with a local man, Zach Whitman, who had a long battle and part of it spent it Winchester Hospital. It was hellish experience, definitely something that it's still surging and Hugely fearful of what was the first symptom. Well, it wasn't the first symptom. It was all of them hitting me at once. I mean, you know, for for people who have experienced Cove it and for people who hear about it. It starts off with, like body aches for nothing, And then it incubates and goes over through the whole period. And then you get hit with it, and I ended up having You know, like the sore throat, The dizziness, the fatigue, the heavy fever, all that stuff. That must be incredibly scary experience. I it was yes. Luckily, I had some really great support. But definitely very scary to to go through. Zach is just 34 years old. And he said while he was hospitalized and in the early stages of recovery, the thought of death Was prominent in his mind. "Blue Sky Sunshine in Boston 36 degrees. This is going to be the best day of the week. As far as the weather is concerned, we get into the lower fifties and plenty of sunshine. Thanks for being with us this Thursday morning. I'm Jeff Brown. Come on in. Here is what's going on. We have just begun the coldest three month stretch of the year. And this year, possibly the cruelest we are at a very critical time right now about being able to maintain the resilience of our health care system. Dr Robert Redfield, head of the CDC, who says the coming months Could likely be the most difficulty in the history of American public health. The U. S shatters records coast to Coast and in Massachusetts. WBC's Carl Stevens tells us the daily covert battle comes with numbers never seen before his kinds of numbers or what officials were concerned about going into Thanksgiving. There are more than 4600 newly confirmed covert cases in the Commonwealth. That's with more than 105,000 tests, bringing the seven day positivity rate to nearly 5%. The second surges really surging now the number of covert patients in the hospital 1259 statewide that's bringing the total nine ICU hospital capacity now up to nearly 75%. The number of covert patients in the ICU went up 2 to 64 the number of newly reported deaths among confirmed cases. 46 Carl Steven stop BBC Boston's news radio officials with the White House Coronavirus Task Force or watching Massachusetts and warning that it may be time to put the brakes on the state's economic recovery plan. They suggest to roll back here. Which is tough to do as evidence mounts that people will continue to celebrate the holidays like they always do. WBC's James RoHaas tells us There is a new tool to tell if you're spending too much time to close and indoors, Mighty says there's growing evidence that Cova 19 can be spread with aerosol droplets that are transmitted by breathing the same. They're in an indoor space. So it's created a theoretical model to calculate safe exposure times and recommended occupancy levels. It's pretty simple. There are different variables. You can input into the model, including room specifications, human behavior, and if people are wearing a mask or not, the model also answers so frequently asked questions, including why keeping a 6 FT distance from others may not be enough room to keep safe in an indoor space. You could find the model and interact with it on M I T is website James RoHaas WBZ. Austin's NewsRadio. Coronavirus, tidal wave hits the entire nation. People who have gotten sick with covert 19 and then lived to tell all about it will tell you It's something they never want to go through ever again. £20, you know, 16 straight days of nonstop fever. Zach Whitman is 34 years old. And he tells me that cove it was a battle unlike anything he could have ever imagined. All of the symptoms hitting him at once. Scary is congee it Wasp? Yes, definitely very scary to to go through. You thought you got hit by a truck? I mean, I would say hit by trucks and nice way of putting it getting hit by a 7 30 seven's probably better. He's still battling some of the after effects and watching those closely, but he's alive. And Zach Whitman says he'll always remember being at Winchester Hospital, telling his young kids he'd see them again, but not knowing if he was lying or not. So first thing he did when he got back on his feet. The first thing I actually gave was I hugged my son Drew Mo Holland WBZ Boston's news radio. Coming up check is not actually in the mail, but they're talking about it. Details on the way 7 33 let's get you to work, Traffic and weather together. Laurie Grandi is here with a look at the Subaru Retailers of New England. All wheel drive traffic on the threes. What's going on? Well, Jeff want to take a look first in Wrentham on 4 95 North bound, still dealing with that crash, where they clear the crash by route one day, but lots of residual volume there. It's very heavy from Rue 1 to 1 a there. North, not expressway continues to be a tough ride as well. Start to these little square that continues to Columbia Road. It's gonna check now of the downtown area with Kristen X. She's high above it in the mob for insurance copter. It's still really unpleasant. Here, Lori on the leverage down ramp. I'm looking at this. Now. It's jam back in the beginning. Stages heavy all the way down the Storrow Drive. Once you're finally on, Storrow Drive West things clear up pretty quickly heading out two of the Kenmore exit. So that's fine. Tobin Bridge inbound is really did not Too bad this morning and the airport tunnels check out, okay? Kristen Act on them offering insurance copter. Alright, thanks Kristen and Revere route 16 Eastman, Right by Route one. There's a crash. It's actually on the rap to Route one North bound to watch out for that. Here's the latest in Groton was still dealing with the some lane closures. Actually, most of the lanes are open. You can pass now, but they are still working on that down utility pole and the lines that were across the roadway. Started with the roll over last night. This is 1 19 both directions near surety Way Laurie granted WBC's traffic on the three don't want to wear these days because we're pretty much all over the map. It's cold in the morning. It's mild in the afternoon so we might start with a winter jacket today. But then we'll pare that down later on his temperature's get into the lower fifties. Plenty of sunshine right now, 36 degrees and Sunshine all day long. Tomorrow continues mild, But the clouds are going to take over grace guys all day on Friday, and we're watching a storm system that is about to hit us this weekend, and it looks like right now It's mostly going to be rain. But this is also the time of the year where it can flip on a dime where we could also see some snow out of it. And as things stand right now, some of us will North and west of the city, especially beyond 4 95. We could see some accumulating snow over this upcoming weekend. It's all out of here Late on Saturday and Sunday. It's back to windy conditions and a bit of sun moving back in pies in the thirties. By then, right now is 36 Cent full on sunshine here in Boston at 7 35 top Democrats in the nation's capital or throwing their support behind a $900 billion Financial stimulus package, and CBS News correspondent Deborah Alfa Rone says the hope is.

"Because radio dot com is owned by Entercom. Yeah. So that was basically the handshake agree. But I've come to you review, if you were allowed out of the Entercom or would you have offered me a job the morning, we talked about that. Yeah. I don't know what the money would have been. We talked about that. I really I you asked how much you made. I said, listen, this isn't some this isn't Klay tra- this bar. So we can pay. Okay. All right. Well, yes, I would have throughout the numbers. Yeah. Sure. How much he's making? If he wants to. I'm not you could say you could say. Like half a mill where something like that. Forget. Yeah. It was a lot. Yeah. It was a lot. We get. We get. I know for serious they kick in. I would never pay for that. I don't blame. You. What was the start of your problems with e- for those that are unfamiliar? I it's it's it's complicated. So I was critical. If the Red Sox Red Sox around the station, they didn't like that. I got in the battles of Grady. I got in the battles with really Brady. You suck Brady's decorating. How up on us this year? He was pissed off. I wasn't Hilario that was Reamer then me this year. And then, but when he got mad you take your pay off your debt. Well, no, I didn't say that. Again. I'll give you bought two is not problem. Nobody buys Kirkman. Well, well, maybe so then and then there was a couple of things politicians low local stuff, and they just they got tired of me. I got tired of them. We're done. We got divorced for moving on radio dot com. But I thought a lot of it has to do in. This is the guests like your full issues them whatnot that had nothing to do nothing to do with. No, no, no, no, no. There's a guy this activists who is trying to take us all down. It's a lot. It's a lie knew about that quick story that I thought was interesting, and you said you wanted to tell it sure all night to tell it because it really I liked the story. I don't like the part that you're in the hospital. Is it worth it for me to be there for the story in your mind? Yes. That's what I thought. That's fine. Very much. So in August. I was hospitalized was suicidal thoughts. I want a mental. I don't like her down. That's bad. Sorry to hear that. Yeah. But it was almost worth is that even this. Say yeah. To be honest. I just felt like as. What do you want them to do what you're saying nothing? I mean, of course. Yeah. But if you. Really sorry. Yeah. I'm not going to lose. Show. So we all my dad passed away. It's like, oh, that's thanks look at them. But I would rather chicken vigor way, rather, you say that you really sorry. That'd be year azoff for and I can tell you a nice guy. Thank you appreciate. So I was so so when you check in there when you go in I I went to Winchester hospital. You know, which is so you go in there. What about really Winchester? I know this town Winchester chesser has a hospital crash has a house. I'm not going down fine. We're not like familiar with the ins and outs of the house. Correct. Again, this is meaning zip pretty normal hospital. It's a hospital emergency room. So I go when I tell the person at the front that's going on the zippy right through if you ever wanted to get through just tell them that you get right to the separate wing. Take shoes off do all the stuff in your basically alone, you're alone. And you're kind of waiting for the doctor to come security guard is there he's watching you the whole thing he comes over and says, hey, I'm a I'm a big fan of yours. And I am twenty minutes remove from doing this in like. Telling my family pretty big moment now, Mike. Okay. Thanks lies. Like, I gotta ask you something. So what's Portnoy light this fucking guy?
