Jim Hanson and Will Chamberlain Talk Government Collusion

"Good buddy, Wilt Chamberlain, who is senior counsel at the Internet accountability project and also part of the article three project. Will, I am having trouble actually keeping up with all the evidence dropping recently about government collusion with the tech tyrants to censor political enemies. I'm stunned, at least we knew it was going on, but the amount of actual proof coming out these days is gobsmacking. Yeah, no, it really is stunning how many different government agencies were in on the sort of misinformation slash disinformation racket. And I mean, yesterday I think there was a Twitter files drop and saw something about how people were proposing, we need to censor truthful speech that might lead people to draw the wrong conclusions. Like straight up, truthful, you know, truthful speech about their reactions or the vaccine, for instance, that just might lead people to think the wrong way. That's totally unacceptable, totally not the way that our government should be working, and yet this is what somehow not only government agencies, but nonprofits and NGOs funded by the State Department and helping human services, all these people are just involved in trying to get Twitter to create a discursive world that they prefer. It's stupid. We need to it's unconstitutional. It's horrifying. Now they obviously

"Woods is by far without a doubt the most amazing golfer in the last of all of golf. I mean, look, Nicholas Hogan wise vaults and all of the great great golfers. Woods and his prime, knowing touching. Nobody. I mean, just ungodly, okay? But the man has absolute no concept, it seems like of how to deal with all the course. And James, today, we start off Friday's finest with he's being sued and I'm not trying to be funny here. You know, for our folks listening to James, but I've read several stories and I don't mean to imply something nefarious, but I've heard her described as a girlfriend and then I've heard her say she suing is an she was an employee. And non disclosure agreements. I mean, how can somebody be so good on a golf course in so absolutely horrific in the rest of life? His social life, what's fascinating and hello everybody. What's fascinating about Tiger Woods is up until was it 2009 was the Thanksgiving incident? Am I getting that right about? Yeah, roughly when all the when the fact that he was competing with Wilt Chamberlain for the I've made it more. It's amazing that like for that lasted so long the heat again he was like, married, happy I'll buy everything was great and then it all went to hell. Since then, it's been crazy off the court. I mean, off the course. This story is amazing. The story is that he told his girlfriend or whatever she is, I'm trying to find it too. I can't get a straight answer. To get her out of the house, he told her to pack a bag and meet him at the airport, and then he locked the door. He changed all the locks on the doors. That's fascinating to me.

"He's in his own category. I asked the question earlier this week, quarterback you want to start your team with, we took mahomes out of the conversation. He said his own conversation. Yes. But I'm just saying he's not everything that you're saying he is. He's not in the Super Bowl. He's not. And we are welcoming somebody to come in to the conversation. That's what burrow is about. Can we have somebody in the conversation? Because nobody is in the conversation. Josh Allen's not Justin Herbert's not Jalen hurts isn't is Joe burrow at least going to make this a fun conversation. And I'm fine with that. I'll be very quick here. Okay. I have all year said Joe burrows the second best quarterback in football. What frustrates me is the lack of consistency for my media colleagues who all year long said Allen and mahomes were neck and neck and were putting burrow down with Herbert down in a different tier. And then why did you name names? Call out who did this? Literally everyone but me. Literally everyone in the media butt Nick right. That's the names. Okay. We're on the same page with LeBron with what LeBron is doing. I'm amazed that this isn't bigger. I know that it's going for Kareem's record, but nobody has had this. Nobody's had a season like this. And LeBron is doing this on a nightly basis, and he has to because Anthony Davis isn't there. I don't know. I'm trying to figure this out. You know, why I tell you it's the protection of Michael Jordan. I mean, that's all it is. It's you can't. This was a record Dan. In the last 55 years, here are the people who have held the title of NBA's all time leading score. I'll give you the full list. It'll take a while. Wilt Chamberlain Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. That's the list. Kareem set this record or broke the record before LeBron was born. It was considered unbreakable up to 6 years ago, people thought it couldn't be broken. LeBron's gonna break it. By 4000 points, 5000 points, 6000 points. And the reason I say it's the protection of Jordan

"And wilt and Bill Russell. And this is a regular season of war, not a postseason award, but it's like, well, yoga, she hasn't won championship she had it, 'cause it's in the same category with those guys. And now we're going to give him something that only those guys have gotten. Almost by definition of history, right? If history is our guide, if history says the parameters for how we classify players and how we elevate them and what tier we put them in and where they are in the pyramid or all these different things when we talk about the scope of history, it does start to weigh on you a little bit that wait a minute. Hold on in the scope of history, there's only been three guys and these are three of the greatest ever. And jokic has the talent to be one of the greatest ever, but he still mid career hasn't won anything in the postseason yet. And you almost don't want to give him an honor that is only been claimed by three absolute Titans of the game. I think that's a fair thing to discuss. I don't know if it's a fair thing to hold against him when we're voting in April. I don't want to dismiss it. It matters. The history matters. Right. But at the same time, if he's the best player this season, and not just the best player, but, you know, you and I agree on this. Best player on a team that matters, right? 50 plus wins, legit chance to make the finals. That's why I didn't vote for him last year, because that was not the case for the nuggets. But this year, I don't have a case against him unless somebody else can knock him off. And if the only case against him is, we can't put him in a category with Larry Bird and Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell. I don't know if I can do it on

"The buck snapped a four game losing streak by pulling away in the third quarter of a one 23 one 14 win over the Timberwolves. Had 43 points and 20 rebounds for the bucks who trailed by 11 before outscoring the wolves 39 22 in the third quarter. And Ted Takuma joined Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor is the only players with back to back games of at least 40 points, 20 rebounds of 5 assists, Bobby Porter said at 22 points to the win. "You're just creating an extra meal for me because I don't even know what could be happening around me and earthquake could be happening. If there's pizza, I don't even care what the topping is. I'm eating the pizza, so you're just setting me up to get fat with a 3 p.m. pizza option. I can't resist it. It's impossible. This is a lot of information. I'm sorry. Piazza I think that's the name of the place we went to the pizza was absolutely stellar and the company is just exceptional. So, hey, listen, all I know is I'm lucky. I can't wait to get to game two and see what Steve and he may have in mind and see what these incredible players do. So last night was so fun back and I felt like Boston had to get one here in order to make this the series we thought it was and they did and you're right. Now prosperity prosperity is not been kind to the Boston Celtics they tend to make things hard on themselves so we'll see how they react. Well, I think we both picked warriors in 7. We did, yeah. In theory, the Celtics winning game one should not really dissuade us from such a long extended pick like that. I did come away from that game one feeling like, oh, that was that was a pretty emphatic boss who went and you can show me the 21 threes and all that and obviously those guys won't shoot like that, blah, blah, blah. It didn't feel it felt like a piece of information that changed the way I thought about the series a little bit. Sure, I would agree with that. And I would agree with that because of the way they were able to defend after the first quarter. The mind boggling stakes, there's a transition three by step where Derrick white and one other Celtic were standing right there. And they both ran in the other direction. I said, what the hell are you? It was Pritchard. It was Pritchard, the other one. Are you kidding me? Two guys just walked away or actually turned and jogged away from the greatest shooter in this race. Oh, it actually be fun. It would actually be fun if you could make this like an attraction that you would pay like an enormous amount of money for. In a 5 on 5 situation, I would want to see how it feels like because you see some teams do this. Okay, so I'm playing the real warriors and you just plop me onto the defensive team. And you say, you're only job is literally ignore everything else happening on the floor. Do not avert your vision from Steph Curry. The other, it could be Wilt Chamberlain Bill Russell, Michael Jordan and LeBron James. You don't care. You're only job is to chase him around. Do not pay it. I don't care if he's 75 feet from the hoop or at the basket. That's your only job. I obviously I would fail on that after one cut by Steph Curry. I'd be in the dust. I just would like to see what it feels like to just because when you play pickup, you don't just have one job, like some guys are just face guard them 94 feet. I just would like to see what that feels like. I would pay some money to do that and it would be horrible, but it's very unique, but to your point, it's like, dude, that's Steph Curry. Just guard him no matter where he is. And if somebody's coming up the floor, who should not be left on attended in transition, it's that guy, go find everybody, you know, leave everybody else out alone. Oh, it was too crazy. That's enough. I've wasted enough of your time. You're the best to indulge me on this stupid podcast. The one and only Doris Burke, I will see you soon. Thank you for your time. "These things are terrible. Biographies different autobiographies, I think I'm pretty much done with them. But Jerry West had some real issues there. Yeah, so I mean, I'm gonna go on a totally different direction here. There's a book before you do. We'll get to you. Okay. But on the Lakers show, in your in the book, then one year, you come across as not a Laker lover. I am not a Laker lover. And yet, are you still finding this, the show about the rise of Lakers, interesting or is it, okay, well, I got to do it because it's part of my business and no, I mean, I think you can see I'm not a Laker lover. I grew up on the east coast. Now we are in Pittsburgh. We didn't have an NBA team, but like in our neighborhood, it seemed like there were two sects if you want to say it. One was Celtic fans and one was really like Wilt Chamberlain fans and then of course he was with Philadelphia and then went to the Lakers. So there were like two groups of fans and I was on the Celtic side. The neighborhood was pretty well split. So I mean, that's carried with me pretty much my whole life. Then it went to the Lakers and like I said, half the group became Laker fans. And I remained the Celtic fan. I'm probably not nearly so much today. It doesn't seem worth it. But yeah, probably comes through. Now, as a bookmaker, the Lakers have been beating me for the last 30, 40 years. So that's another reason why I'm not a great Laker fan. I mean, we're working to say they've been a great, great franchise..

"I think that what the kings do this off season is going to be important. They didn't come into this season with the team built around, hey, we've got sabonis. Let's put pieces around him. That's going to come this coming off season. And so that's where a lot of people are already speculating. You know, Sean Holmes probably winds up getting moved and let's see what the kings do to try to make all of these pieces fit, but I mean, it's good that he's happy right now. We'll see what happens this summer and then off you go. And there have been a lot of kings players who said we're going to break this playoff drought. Obviously it hasn't happened. But sabonis is also really, really good. So who knows? Did you see that thing about worked Edelman about the whole case? Since they had an insect. Every season he was the coach, they had a winning record. Every other season in Sacramento, the team is not had a winning record. That's starts to get up there with that whole up until their playoff thing with snapped. I want to say the spurs. First 44 years in the NBA, only missed the playoffs four times. It had one of those years. They got David Robinson in the other one. They got Tim Duncan. No, I mean, there's just sometimes when you look at some things and it's just like, 'cause that bright. I always thought of that too when I was thinking about talking about Kyrie Irving's monster game. Oh, the other night. And it's like, then you see somebody threw us up and it's like, well, Chamberlain did this, you know, 58 times. And it's like, how's that possible? Have you seen two, there's people who are like, will Chamberlain, the stats aren't real because there's no video. There's a whole thing too about people believe the hundred point game didn't happen. Like there's like this whole thing of like the hundred point game never happened. It was the NBA made it up for publicity reasons. Like that one around. Really? Really? I didn't realize that was a thing. Like in my head, I'm picturing, now Wilt Chamberlain standing on the moon with the American flag because it seems like we're putting this in the same category. Like, Wilt Chamberlain truthers and the moon landing truthers, it's holy moly. Wow, I did not realize that was a thing. Yeah. Again, you know tide. See the sunshine a little bit, people. I mean, there is a world out there that doesn't exist in your computer. What? There is? Jay, I know. I say that as I spend a lot of time in front of my screen each day. Anyway, moving on. I should have gotten to this when we were already talking about the heat earlier, just bad planning by me, but the heat are reportedly rumored to be looking at guys like Christian wood and PJ Washington for this off season, ideally looking for a partner for bam adebayo. And the Miami front court. Interesting targets, I mean, just kind of versatile guys, make some sense..

"Really cool. Yeah, that's a good choice. I do like Wiggins too, it's fun to watch him just have the success and get the recognition for just his whole career path has been one of like harsh criticism and all he did for the first few years of his career was like play in every game and average 20 points per game. Hard to do. It's hard to do. It's very hard to in the world of load management. This guy just didn't miss games. And was super consistent. Now, I will say, if you look at the on offs with Wiggins and Steph, and this isn't like particularly novel, a lot of players are better with stuff on the floor, but Wiggins is like a lot better with stuff on the floor and stuff is staff. That's why stef is so special. And so I just want to point that out in the conversation about Wigan season. But the player for me who I'm just by far most happy for is Jared Allen. Center. Great. Who like, I think if he, you know, if embiid missed, I don't know, like 20 games, 30 games or something, 25 games. Jared, who is starting at filling that front court spot. I know there's no center right now. They took that away. But Jared Allen's the second best center in the Eastern Conference. Am I missing something? I don't even know if I'm speaking. I'm just speaking off the top of my head here. I can't think of anyone who's had a better season than him on both ends he's the anchor of one of the best defenses in the league. I forget if I said this stat on the show before, but if his current statistics hold in terms of his shots per game and his field goal percentage, no player in NBA history has ever attempted ten, at least ten shots and shot at least 70% from the floor. In the history of the league, that includes Wilt Chamberlain that just everybody. So he's doing that right now barely. And that's awesome. And he's at like, he's adding he's added like a subtle touch with he's got the up and under now. If you watch his post moves in Brooklyn, he was just, first of all, they never, ever posted him up in Brooklyn. And that's just stylistic strategy thing. And that makes sense, but when he gets the ball down low, they'll feed him and he knows what to do with it. So, you know, shout out to him. I'm just really, it's really awesome to see that dude blossom. He was pretty harsh criticism when he signed that 5 year $100 million contract, and it's looking like a steal, frankly. He's awesome. And he's like 23, 24 years old, so shout out to Jared Allen. I was not expecting fans to be on board as much as they are. Like him getting more votes than bam? Like, I know bam's been hurt. But that's still surprises me, honestly. I was really happy to see it. And I've said this a couple times, that's a team that I think not even sneakily..

Even though you hear in LA and what you're saying, I used to sneak in the games back in the day when Wilt Chamberlain and try to see Jerry West and Gail goodrich happy Harrison, you know, Michael Cooper, Byron and Scott. I mean, I'm going home with the name of Lisa people, man. I couldn't stand Boston. I couldn't buy a friend. Come on, tell us about it. We got a lot of people out here that hate the Celtics. He can't have made the team. And you kick ass off. And i said yes to that and then i said no and i ended up kicking making a few kickings to make room for new guys and i guess my particular. I'm not gonna say bias. Particular thought process was that i'm an old guy back covered the league in the eighties. And i really wanna shade this so fans that are coming. I don't do it for the fans. But i didn't wanna have all old names on there and if it came to me a choice between some mortal who helped make the league in the nineteen fifties like not bill russell course or but and then a guy who wondering about now even if he wasn't a legendary oss player i may be gave a little break to that so there's some degree of modernism in this thing but i don't want to go too far on that of course i have bill russell of foresight. Have you know wilt chamberlain. Course gary west elgin baylor oscar robertson. But it came to a close thing. I kind of maybe thought i should go more modern. Yeah that helps answer the question. No no it does to an extent because these things are all tied together. I mean one of the questions. I've been asking other friends in the business who whose opinions i value is. Should we consider the fiftieth anniversary lists. Sacrosanct are those fifty a permanent fifty and you can only add them. Like how seriously should we take it and one of the things that i've struggled with aside from just how dramatically this game in this league change from decade to decade to say nothing over the course of five years. It's also that simple math question right. Even if those fifty were universally agreed on as the best fifty of the first fifty years when you have another twenty five years pass to say that there could only be twenty five players in two thousand five years that we're better than any of the people that fifty list just defies all logic like if you hit some golden age of the sport and let's face it because of training and specialization and all these advances we've have people are there are more great players now. I just think there are and if you have four guys who are alzheimer's over twenty five years to just to throw out one possible number necessarily implies that you have to knock off some of the guys from the original fifty. The other thing that i've i've decided in my own mind jack to make me feel a little better about potentially throwing guys off from the original fifty is this. That was the greatest fifty list..

"Of my most famous people of all time. I mean, I played a briefly for Bill and the Lakers. But this is a guy that just when you talk about true humans, I mean, this guy was truly something special. And he brought all of his coaching talents, mixed those with his obvious talents as a person. And that's why he was a successful as he was. But I still gave so much to the game that he gave his voice because then later on after that, he goes hard to understand bill but I could understand everything he said, but that's how much he loved the game of basketball. Didn't know the sidelines screaming at us when we were making mistakes and it caused you to yeah. It cost him it cost him his voice. You know, we joke about it now, but as you said, you know, that's something that we look back on. And I wish obviously wish that he wouldn't have lost his voice to that degree because he had so much to say, but as every losses was he kind of got off the away from the court, he got kind of quiet. You know, he didn't, I don't think he felt comfortable with the way his voice sounded. Wilt Chamberlain, oh, the big fella. One of the nicest people you want me to. This guy, I remember we were back in the old days. We used to play double headers, especially in the preseason. We'd have 14 play double headers. And, you know, one time that the will was playing in the second game. So he sees us before the first game. And he's says, you guys have got to cheer for me when we come out because nobody likes the big guys. You know, you know, back when the big guys were villains that he didn't get a whole lot of cheers. So he'd say, you guys better cheer for me, but he was something special. The only thing I remember about that big fellow, you know what, you know, you call a time out and the ball boys are bringing you some Gatorade. I look down the bench. He's drinking a cord of 7 up or something. I mean like big fellow, how are you doing this and going out and playing? And he would play 48 minutes. I mean, didn't come out of game. One year he averaged 48.5 minutes per game in that obviously meant that he played a lot of the overtime as well. Still, there's a story going around that Bill Sharma and one day. That's how we got shoot around. When they used to come in early and built with smoking a cigarette and he asked Billy said, coach, do you want it now or do you want it tonight? 'cause you only get it once. That's a true story, man. Told me that story. He said that he called this shoot around and will said a bill. I'm only going to the arena one time today. At the shoot around or you can have me game time, but I'm only going to the arena once. Well, I guess when you got the 20,000 women under your belt, I guess it takes its toll on you, but it was a great man and a great person. Next one's still Magic Johnson. Oh, wow. "That never participated in superstars mohammed. Ali really was Was one of those and wilt chamberlain was the other who was playing professional basketball. But every other sports in its most elite athletes to compete in the superstars and so much so that years later when i was in agent Helping get some players signed by. Nfl teams they. Actually have a superstars clause in the contract and the what the contract says essentially is you cannot participate in superstars type events without permission of your club without up your nfl team And so that's was an interesting activity because there was some risk we had very. We're very fortunate very few athletes ever because everyone in good shape so very few people ever got hurt or pull hamstrings or anything like that. We did have bicycle accident with a safety for the miami dolphins during my era That thankfully didn't break anything but it. I think that woke everybody up to say. Wow you know there is some risk here and if we're gonna be paying these guys lots of money..

"City and then the fitting sons made the deal in luckily for them. That chris paul l. no reemerged in terms of being one of the better point guards in the league the last couple of years but father time is undefeated. Exactly where we're going with this moving forward at the age of thirty nine. How good how effective. How impactful Chris paul especially if you're speaking about For justice he does state that pay pay-cut and he goes with the lakers. How much is a thirty nine year. Old chris paul thirty-seven-year-old lebron james and the often injured then thirty thirty one year old. Anthony davis how does that mean when those guys are your three main players. Now your argument is going to be long as you've got lebron on your team. I mean he can take you know chickens shitting. Turn into check salad. Well maybe the twenty five year. Old lebron james. Maybe the thirty-one-year-old lebron james. Maybe even the thirty five year old lebron james but how much more how many more. How many years left that lebron jeans have. How much time did lebron. James have left to be able to elevate mediocre talent for them to be elite basketball franchises. How many more years. How many more times. How many more opportunity. The brown james had in that situation can lebron james clearly while being a top five player in his league before he got injured. Even some people were saying that he was the mvp of the league until solomon hill bell ankle which caused a high ankle sprain with card. Lebron ms twenty. Something games really opened up pathway for the colour yokich to win that. Mvp how much. More time than lebron jeans have. As far as being that player. When do the lakers have to come to the realization that they have to quote unquote turn this team over to someone. Like anthony davis unmentioned in podcast before eventually with great basketball the ball players of all time. Eventually it's going to happen. Wilt chamberlain the greatest score of his era the greatest score in nba history. Maybe statistically but when you take a look at the offensive problems that wilt chamberlain had scoring fifty points a game one season the coming back in averaging forty five points a game the next leading the nba scoring the first seven years of his nba career. Foreign away but the most dominant offense threat in the annals of mba history. For the longest time. I mean there was a situation where he finally said. Look man i can't go ahead and go out there and try to score thirty forty fifty points a game every single night. I'm gonna have to go ahead and retool the way that i play to maximize my opportunities to help my team have martine when championships keep me relevant so by the time that he was in his mid thirties and of course being in your low to mid thirties. In the year. Nineteen seventy seventy one. Seventy two was a lot different than being in your mid thirties. Now in twenty twenty one. Twenty two twenty three in such. I know it's a big difference. But by the end of the career wilt chamberlain was averaging fourteen. Fifteen points a game and relying on jerry west and happy harrison and jim clemens and such to a winning championships was the part not d..

You know kyle schwartz also been dominating as well as a leadoff hitter for the nationals but Shohei otani is our play of the day. Play that abe raunchy by mercedes benz vans. They go far beyond from their customization options. Cutting ed tech to their five-star sale service financial support crew go that extra mile taking the all important for step into an authorized dealership today. This is what major league baseball should do. This is an exhibition. Make sure shohei ohtani gets to pitch in the all star game and of course gets hit. Now if it's one inning that he pitches he gets a couple played appearances. You wanna you wanna create something here and it's an exhibition game. But this is good for the sport. We know that baseball is trying new things here. You wanna make this a big deal big splash. That he's going to pitch in an all star game and he's also going to bat and the all star game and i think it's only appropriate that you know he hits a couple of home runs at yankee stadium since he's trying to do what babe ruth is the last to do. But you got twenty eight home runs. We're not at the all star break yet. But if you're the commissioner and i think otani pitches tonight but if there's a way that you can put him in the game as a pitcher as well as a hitter. I think that's a home run pun intended. That's our play of the day. Mclovin poll question. What did we settle on. Okay i put up the question. Where did like this are. Nba players today hurt more because they're playing less minutes during the season because they're working harder on the court or there is no reason just lock fifty-seven percent say it's just luck but then forty percent say players are not ready because they're not playing as many minutes during the season. I know that this is eons ago. But i think there was a season where wilt chamberlain played more than forty eight minutes on average in a game because he played every minute of every game and then he also played overtime. I think he might have averaged fifty minutes that season per game if you throw in the overtime because he played every minute of every game not that that. You're going to require somebody to do that. Hope they're going to do that. Do i want you ready for the postseason. Yes is that the end game here. Yes winning a championship..

"Like to play that way. The team's willingness to give Bill sharman a chance would be put to the test early in his coaching tenure. When bullseye Bill instituted what was widely decried by basketball pundits at the time, as pointless. The morning shoot around on game day. While charmin is credited with its creation, its origin and purpose has been shrouded in myth. The two prevailing myths about Bill shamans shoot around, both involved, Wilt Chamberlain. The first one is that he created the shoot around to curb wilts legendary late night proclivities. And that is not true. Sherman himself used to do game day shoot arounds where he was with Boston and he brought it wherever he coached, starting in the ABA. The second myth is that wilt hated it. And this was probably true. But it was also true that we wanted to win. And when shaman told him about the shoot arounds, his response was coach, I usually don't get out of bed until noon. But if you think it will help, I'll go along. As long as we win, but at the onset of the new NBA season, the LA Lakers didn't. With three of their primary players in their 30s, the team was sluggish out of the gates. And in a stunning turn of events, less than two weeks into the season, the franchise would then have to watch as its heart and soul would choose to walk away from the game. I went to practice and said, Hilton bail is going to retire. I went, oh my God, I can't believe this guy shared so much with me. You want to be gone, he's not around. I was crushed.

Let's see if Carrie is willing to do it because I think that is what it's ultimately going to come to. Any time I gave you a little time to think about it again. The fascinating stat brought to you by draftkings and this is a great one. James Harden and Kevin Durant of combined for 138 points in their first two games together in Brooklyn. Only one pair of teammates ever scored more points in their first two games together. For a franchise, you know? Did you know this one? You heard it on, Get up this morning. We did it on. Get up this morning. I almost asked him not to put it in the TV show this morning because I wanted to use it here. I'm hoping it didn't see it. The answer. Is Wilt Chamberlain. And a player named York Lory. See 1961 They came together and combined for 151 points and their first two games as teammates. 151 points. Bubba of those 151. How many do you think Chamberlain scored? Again. Harden and Durant have basically split this pretty much right down the middle. Wilt Chamberlain in York. Lory see, combined for 151 points as teammates in their first two games. How many of them do you think will scored? Hmm? I'm gonna go 97 139, okay. Chamberlain scored 139. And Larissa scored 12. But they are the highest scoring pair of teammates ever to come together in their first two games and a franchise. I told you it's a phenomenal statistic. It just goes to show you and Jalen has said this to me a million times. There's the record book. And then there's Wilt Chamberlain. He basically has his own record book so well. Chamberlain himself. Scored more points in those two games. 139 Then Harden and Durant have combined to score in their first two games together. 138 use that one. Today I'll have a little fun. Thanks for spending some time with me. I'll see you back and better than ever tomorrow morning for get up and then back here on ESPN Radio. My greenie. We have more cubs drama will get to that. Could a basketball team made up of Nigerians? An all time basketball team made up of Nigerians be the greatest basketball time and then I ended it. I amended until as I said all right I have to corollaries one is. I'm going to add west Indians because almost Indians not all mostly I'm Jamaican. Where am I what am I people from? We're from originally like I'm Ibo right most Jamaicans cable so I add the Caribbean and then I said and just refund. That's also add the rest of Southern Africa and then I construct the students. Tony Ridiculous Caribbean so busy. I say out can Africa and the Caribbean put together an all time team. It's better than an african-american team a euro team at a white American team. It's the third one. Maybe not. The answer is yes. We don't have time to do this but I will convince you. I can't convince you to Africa and the Caribbean in basketball. All Time team and also your co you qualify by or Nigeria. Will I started? I start with all of ethnic did not all? I'm only adding. I added Southern Africa. 'cause I WANNA have Steve Nash and Joel Embiid on my team. Wade Steve Nash. Born in Johannesburg. He's Canadian. No my rule is that you. Are you qualify? Virtue of your parents. Place a birth. So get all of Steve. Nash Who Play Thompson. Really? He's Bamyan are are are taking. Tim. Is Zion Living Up to the Hype for the Pelicans?

"Were in Dallas for the pelicans overtime loss to the Mavericks. Second night of a back to back for New Orleans obviously but we didn't see the Zion. We've sort of been spoiled by over the last month. So what did you get from Zion? On Wednesday night. I saw someone who had to go through a little bit of adversity. There's two different things working against him in that Dallas Game One. It was the first time he played on a back to back. You didn't see his legs under him. Early actually play but gets the block on Williamson Williamson. Took his time getting up court. You may be subbing out of the ball game here. He is drew and Lonzo Ball. We're GONNA come on up to him. Hey man you you're right you you tired. Are you going to play? You GotTa pick one. The other thing. Going against him was Dallas they started Maxi Kluber alongside of kristaps porzingis specifically for Zion Williamson two. That might have been forcing a psychotic burst that is just perfectly played deep that still by Dallas Cleveland's doing A. They went to the formula. That's been working. Which is the. We're GONNA get the tallest guy we have can defend him to do it. And then have another seven footer. Awesome plus footer at the Rim Ryan got blocked inside again. It's not possible in less. Cleber is being this physical and allowing time for kristaps ticket over there. Lieber six ten obviously porzingas seven three. Those have been the only really match ups that have given him problems when they played the box. Janas guarded him and then you have the Lopez twins behind him. Protecting the RIM defers Lakers game. Anthony Davis guarded him. And you had jovial and Dwight rim so that combination kind of went against his favor so walk me through a little bit of the process on the back to back portion of it because this is obviously part of the Adjustment For Zion. So where do you find the line? If you're the PELICANS in trying to get him experienced doing things like back to backs that he'll be asked to throughout his career and then also sort of adjusting him since he is still getting fresh on the court after an injury yeah so initially David Griffin the PELICANS executive vice president of basketball operations who should have a shorter title. It's a mouthful say every time I don't know I mean if you're going to have a title let's go big with it like if I'm going to have a business card the whole front of it's going to be my title and the backs. Just going to say fits. There's not not my first name. Just I'm pretty sure that's what his business card says. I haven't seen one but I'm pretty sure that's it has to read like that initially As I was coming back from the injury. Grif said he wasn't there. Were probably going to take it easy on back to backs. Now the good thing that kind of worked into their favor there was January. Twenty second was when he made his debut since then the Tuesday Wednesday back to back that they just had was the first time they had a back to back so they got to let him get games under his belt. He mentioned to his own Tuesday. You know I have to do the recovery if I want to perform the way that I'm capable of performing as you try to push for or is this your mutual agreement Little bit of both but I need a push for myself because I gotTa do the recovery of I want to be able to perform. We do every night with that. Being said coming off the knee injury there were reports that he was learning how to walk differently. How to run differently? I mean when they're watching him and they're monitoring and what are they looking for his indicators of his health very funny to me because I think George Sodano said that I think on ESPN broadcast and it just kind of blew up. He's learning how to walk and anybody who's been through physical therapy at any point that I for any sort of knee. Injuries foot injury. Whatever it is can tell you. They will relearn how to walk in physical therapy. The learning how to walk and run differently was more about little things in his gate that they wanted to fix. The biggest thing that they really wanted to correct at that time was how he landed when you go back and watch how he landed at. Duke with these huge one handed slam traffic. He's landing on one foot one of the big things you see. Now when he goes up for a dunk whether it's an alley whether he's just throwing it down to hands. He tries to land on two feet as much as possible. Zeile yeah that the to hand flush and a great entry fee for Lonzo Ball over Kunst buck to finish that would KUPA gotta be thinking. What in the world so. It's little things that maybe you don't know at nineteen years old that the Pelicans are trying to instill in him so they can take a little bit of stress off of his knees. The biggest thing you just said is nineteen if you listen to Zion. He'll make sure he tells you. He's nineteen in just about every other interview. I feel like I mean but doesn't right like we are so busy trying to make him either the savior of a lead. That doesn't need to be saved or the reason that we're over. Hyping somebody to the point that people ridicule how much we talk about it but you look at it at some point. Say this is a nineteen year old kid. We're talking about that is absolutely crushing in a limited sample size. So let's turn the tone positive here for a second you're looking at a nineteen year old kid. What he's doing is unprecedented right. It's absolutely unprecedented. Feel like every other night we were finding ways to start a sentence with Zion Williamson. Doing something and we ended it with Michael Jordan or Shaquille O'Neill or Tim Duncan or wilt. Chamberlain the goes on and on and on. And you're like that doesn't make sense.

Pelicans Zion Williamson Williamson Dallas Zion Williamson Lonzo Ball Cleber Dallas Cleveland Dwight Rim New Orleans Anthony Davis Maxi Kluber Mavericks RIM Lieber Janas Michael Jordan Basketball Chamberlain

Inside Donald Sterling's Clippers Era

"Grew up in los angeles in the eighties and i remember watching clipper games on t._v.'s a kid. The games themselves weren't weren't really anything to talk about. I mean the team almost never won and yet the voice of the clippers ralph lawler. Somehow made me care well. That was my job and part of the craft. I just felt that was my job to find a way to keep people interested did in a game. That very often wasn't very interesting because we had a lot of those lottie years. That weren't very interesting but there's always a story to tell if fifteen win season there's some young player or players that you've got a story to tell about them that that humanizes them. That makes people likes them makes people root for them. How rookie was a master at making the clippers likable no matter how much they lost honestly think a lot of fans tuned in for ralph more than the basketball because god knows there was no one at the actual arena except for penny marshall and billy crystal. How did you become a clipper fan because no one was a clipper. They asked me to play. They said listen. We only get four guys tonight. Can you still dribble sports arena. Yeah i had tickets for awhile and we they were great but there was no challenge you know and then a friend of mine calls it's come on. Do you want to go see the clippers play as a all right. There was nobody there. I mean it was a triple double meant. There were three couples. Uh at every level the clippers screamed not showtime but that didn't seem to bother donald sterling or at least it didn't seem to register register. He got a lot of negative press but it was attention. People knew his name and he liked that. That's kind of all. He really wanted to be the center center of attention. That's why he started throwing his party's. They were fabulous donald and shelly sterling's infamous white parties so called because i guess we're expected to come wearing white. Everybody came in white except for donald who got to wear black. L. is just fabulous. It was just a big white party. The biggest white party took place at the end of summer as a way to kick off the basketball season. We'd have the players there. They'd get up on stage and a lot of the fans and a lot of ticket holders. Were there down in the white. Show intel tell don casey attended the party's when he was a coach for the clippers westie cups like this high so you can't drink too much wine little hotdog sticks in a multi-million ekberg. His bailable white party is notorious after uh-huh one time with my wife i i was never allowed to go again. It wasn't quite my style anyway but was so seedy an oily about it is he'd have forgive me but it's true he'd have like grade c actors and actresses. The hangers on the people wanted to get back in show business but he'd also mingle mingle with people who were stars. Billy crystal was one any hired more than just impersonators. There were some lovely ladies walking turnaround. Donald called them hostesses. He had them at every party. He threw he'd actually advertised for them in the paper looking for california model types but they were glorified. Call girls there to look good and entertain. The male guests and shelley had to smile and endure it another public humiliation at the hands for husband too much one. The shelly said maybe not enough. There was always a photographer roadster. He had to have a private photographer for everything everything he did. Give a hand to america where he were walking around him. His voice was talking. He was like yes fabulous. This the mirror quentin richardson was drafted by the clippers in the first round of the two thousand draft he was from chicago played college ball there and then declared for the draft after his sophomore year he was barely twenty years old when he landed in los angeles inexperienced his first donald sterling party. We know we were there whereas the is is his guest athletes but then you had i guess you would say his friends and his normal guest is like you know definitely not the same type hyper looking crowd is we are and so for us. We will kind of standing there and just check everything out and it's like you know. This is for a lot out of us the first time this is the first preseason team type owners meaning or house or any of that. We've ever been to have been involved in so i'm i'm dislike. I'm be respectful say will serve because then i'm over here may want it all and we wanted with player los angeles. This was the best part of the party for donald sterling showing off his players. Don't need have the individual players. Stand up and tell why they love l._a. One of his favorite questions and so you'd have all these guys standing ended up you know danny manning and charles smithson yom mark jackson and stand up and say why they i love l._a. And there's a lot of beautiful girls aren't there and i'm you hong. Come on please. I remember four wilt chamberlain who was getting up there and he was almost at the end of his life and he looked very rail thin to me but he says what what am i doing here. I see you you tell me he goes. I don't even know this guy. It was almost heartbreaking. I was just like okay. I'm ready for somebody to make the first move so soon as somebody else leave. I'm gone like i just don't want to be the first one to leave but from out of here he would hold your hand and just would not let go was it was really really uncomfortable. I mean all my god you. He just wanted to someplace else. The thing is as awkward as these parties were. Donald never seemed happier. He got to be the bell of his own ball and for a few hours a captive audience had to at least pretend to think it was really cool that he owned the worst human basketball because in real life no one was donald sterling so donald found ways to manufacture that for himself to force the conversation to the fact that he he owned the clippers whoever happened to walk up he would ask him advice about the team he would go to the airport after a game and the baggage handlers i would say donald sterling over to me and said. Do you think we should trae. Danny manning you talk to the waiter to restaurant talked to usher at the games is famous. This thing is what i think of my coach just as likely he'd be listening to a cabdriver as he would be to a general manager a scout in bach loud he would call me sometimes was late at night. You know i'm roy firestone. You know everybody. You've watched all these interviews. Tell me about larry brown and why he should be the coach of our team. It's ten hindu eleven at night. It's the owner of the clippers. I'm not a basketball coach analysts. He goes roy. Your opinion matters you know he called billy crystal said. What do you think of larry brown. If you say i should hire him. I'm hiring them. Billy crystal must've told him to hire larry brown because he did and it was a good higher in one thousand nine hundred and again in nineteen ninety-three brown actually led the clippers to the playoffs for the first time since before donald on the team but then

Russell Westbrook, Wilt Chamberlain And Steph Curry discussed on The Dan Patrick Show

"NBA homestretch Steph curry has been on fire as of late will have some stats to back that up. Golden State beat Denver looks like Golden State is going to be the number one seed in the west Russell Westbrook went for twenty twenty and twenty one last night in a game against the artist. Formerly known as the Lakers. The only other player to be able to do a twenty twenty twenty Wilt Chamberlain back in nineteen sixty eight. He had twenty two points twenty five rebounds Twenty-one assist. You you have to active players who've done a twenty twenty game. Chris Polin, Reggie Jackson. But neither had more than five rebounds in those games. So incredible. Performance last night. Why Russell Westbrook.

2019 NBA Standings: Warriors, Bucks Lead West, East at All-Star Break

"Are we really coming up to the all star game already. Really? Yeah. That's coming up this weekend in Charlotte. They've got most of the teams played last night. That'll be their last game before the break. There's a couple of more games tonight. Good ones, though, blazers lit up the warriors won twenty nine one seven thanks to a fourth quarter rampage. That's all Portland outscore the champs thirty five to twelve Damian Lillard scored twenty nine he and seven other blazers reached double figures compared to just two for the dub, Steph curry and Kevin Durant. Each had thirty two wasn't quite enough Portland. Also added veteran Senator NS cater their roster. He was waived last week by the Knicks Kanter also been quartered by the Lakers. He actually signed an offer sheet with Portland four years ago, but never played for them because the thunder matched it and then bond up trading him to New York as part of the Carmelo Anthony deal back in two thousand seventeen. Okay. Mr history. That's it for that. He's averaged fourteen points and ten and a half rebounds for the Knicks this year that rebound total is tenth in the league. So you'd see why the Knicks would want to get rid of him because you know, otherwise, they wouldn't be able to run off a long losing streak. Like they have more about them in a second nuggets nip the kings one twenty to one eighteen Nikola Yokich tipped in the winter in the final second of that game. Paul Millsap had twenty five points and Isaiah Thomas made his season debut for the nuggets play thirteen minutes. Head. A couple of three pointers and wound up with eight points. It'll help them a lot down the down the stretch toward the playoffs. Deborah will stop the rockets. One twenty one to one eleven despite forty two from the beer James harden, running his thirty point game thirty point winning streak scoring streak rather to thirty one games. Now that ties him with Wilt Chamberlain for second. Longest all time Chamberlain also has the longest one at sixty five games in a row bucks past the Pacers one zero six ninety seven Milwaukee we'll go into the break with the best record in the league right behind them. The rap doors they with the wizards won twenty nine to one twenty Celtics left the pistons one eighteen to one ten in that one Brooklyn over Cleveland, one forty eight one thirty nine that one went triple overtime. If you believe that that was a while the seventy Sixers beat the Knicks one twenty six to one eleven that's eighteen straight losses for New York. Joel twenty six points, fourteen rebounds and one twenty five thousand dollar fine from the league for criticizing the referees. Like, he's the only one who does that bulls rushed the grizzlies one twenty to one ten heat too much of the Mavericks won. Twelve to one to one in this clipper sail past the sons one thirty four to one zero seven the clippers now move into eighth place in the west the top eight teams make the playoffs. This year all star game Sunday in Charlotte. It'll be the LeBron James's against the Janas Edoardo Combo's providence column by the first names.

What youll get with Warriors hall pass

"You're listening to the spoken edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. What you'll get with warriors hall pass. What if every pro and college team in the bay area puts donation boxes at the entrances giving every fan the chance to drop in one dollar for fire relief, no way, this would happen. But if the raiders had the chats, how fast would they trade Derek Carr straight up for Jimmy Garoppolo all anybody really wanted from car last week was a my bad a simple admission that he made a huge mistake by grounding a pass on that fourth and fifth play late against the chargers. He had to at least lofta floaty in the general direction of anyone in raiders gear. Everybody knows that was a mistake. Almost everybody genius. Bruce Jenkins idea of holding the NBA all star game team choosing just before the game at the arena. Such brilliant thinking by Jenkins is not surprising. I'm pretty sure he invented the twenty four second clock. Small suggestion to augment Jenkins idea paint the court to look like cracked blacktop. Hey raiders. You know? Okay. Is going to sue you. So why wait make plans now to play all your home games next season in London? You won't have to deal with the Hayden apathy. You would be sure to experience in Oakland. And every week you'll play an opponent throw enough kilter by the time change and travel. Once again, the NBA is light years ahead of other pro leagues in moving toward gender equality in hiring officials just as they were and are in hiring minority coaches the league signed two more female refs. And now three the NBA summer league featured several female refs, if you wanna work toward fairness, you have to work toward fairness, speaking of a quality, how can President Trump award Babe Ruth medal of freedom and not give one to satchel page page at a similar stature and cultural impact though, much of it was lost on white America. Remember left? Yo duels, the great hoffbrau sports bar and as baseball strike near union square that venerable joint close two years ago, but springs to life Tuesday at fisherman's wharf. It remains to be seen how much of the charm transfers over. But owner Nick Bovis is really hanging all the historic photos. Plus a lot more stuff. Nick says he wants to be a place to go to have a good memory. Lebron James passed the late Wilt Chamberlain last week on the NBA's all time scoring list when I contacted wilt for a comment he didn't say anything just smiled and held up a piece of paper with a big one hundred scrawled on it, the raiders owner in an exclusive interview with ESPN said, I always look in the mirror and the buck stops with me. It should be noted that Davis was responding to a question about the raiders long run of failure not to a query about haircuts. Davis also said of he and general manager Reggie McKenzie. We've gotta look in the mirror and figure out where the hell did we go wrong in trying to build this thing? So in the search for solutions to the teams deep problems an important tool will be mirrors and maybe smoke.

Hour 3: Stan's Nuggets

"Stan Van Gundy has had theme related nuggets. The last couple of weeks is this theme related or is this just a hodgepodge of free flowing. Doug it. No, it's theme related again. Then. All right. Well, what are the three nuggets? Well, our theme today is NBA centers. And we'll start with a blast from the past the four fifty point games already this season from NBA players. Got me looking at the history of fifty point games in the NBA. Michael Jordan is second in NBA history with thirty one fifty point games. But the man who is I will Chamberlain had forty five fifty point games in one season. Hundred eighteen in his career, the still. Thanks for being useless as number two. Stan. Nikola yokich. The Denver Nuggets center is currently tagged with LeBron James for seventh in the NBA in assists at seven point seven a center has not been in the top ten in assists. Since Wilt Chamberlain was second in the league fifty one years ago. That joker wilt this stilts that and the number one nugget from STAN Van Gundy this week is I'm gonna go with one of my former guys here last year. Andre Drummond became only the second player in the past twenty six years to average fifteen points and fifteen rebounds in season. Now, he is on pace to become the first player to do it in back to back seasons. Since Moses Malone forty years ago.
