"So you might not actually be able to hit it, but also it would not be straight. You might just walk everyone in the game would never end. So this is not good. This is not a good plan for any number of reasons. Yeah, I am intrigued by how quickly the crowd would like to evolve into peer pressuring people to throw stuff back, but I just think this would be such a slog. And then at some point just in our baseball, it all because of all the problems that would present that you just named. At a certain point, you're just like kind of playing hacky sack. But with your arm? Yep. The baseball itself would no longer be a baseball. It would be not be functional, and at that point it is no longer baseball. So yeah, this would be disastrous, much more disastrous than having potentially multiple models of ball would be just having one path that you have to keep reusing. All right, Matthew Patreon supporter says I drafted this message before you read and responded to the listener question in episode 1941, which starts off in a similar manner, but takes a very different tack about your Steve Cohen discussion in that episode. I am a lifelong mets fan having suffered through the miserliness and the mets Ness of the wilpon years and I am so thrilled that the team was able to resign Brandon ammo and replace the ground with Verlander and and and the team was so much fun last year despite the ending and I'm really excited for next year. It's pretty clear that Cohen's billions and his willingness to say FU to the other owners is changing the landscape for the team. And as you touched on, it may force other owners to adapt and spend more themselves, which would be a big win for everyone. However, I think it's important to register another emotion in this conversation, unease at the way that Cohen is using his money to buy his way into the good graces of society. We talked about this before when he bought the team at intervals since mostly in a joking manner about his doing of crime, but I think it's a vital part of understanding what he is doing in the sport and I hope you all address it again in some depth. He's not the worst offender out there, of course, we're in the middle of the World Cup hosted by Qatar because they bribed a bunch of FIFA officials. The country then proceeded to allow thousands of migrant workers to die during the process of getting ready to host. Meanwhile, they also own one of the top European clubs, PSG, while rival states with their own ethical transgressions owned several others, KSA, Newcastle United, UAE, Manchester City, and until recently Russian oligarchs controlled several major teams across the continent. There are similar tales to tell in basketball in golf with the Olympics to a certain extent. You have a baseball podcast, of course, not a global sports podcast, but how would you fit Cohen and his spending into this global context? Are you worried about other people or literal countries in similar circumstances buying more baseball teams? Mike Cohen be something of a force for good in the baseball ecosystem because his goals, laundering his reputation primarily are so vastly different from his fellow owners turning a tiny profit by keeping costs down. Sorry if that was a little bit of a lung ranter commenter discursive or something, but I worry about these things primarily I worry that as a fan of one of these teams I might fall into the trap that Cohen is set of rooting for him personally because I root for a collection of people he employs, I worry even that I am inherently complicit by paying for tickets or merch or just rooting for the mets and sending positive vibes about them into the universe. So is Steve Cohen sport washing here? Should we feel bad about the mets being the trail blazer here when it comes to spending because this is all parts of Steve Cohen's dastardly planned to restore his reputation? I'm thinking about this since we got this email. I'm going to say a series of things. I don't know if I'm going to come to a conclusion at the end of it. Because on the one hand, I think that he is an extreme example of an existing phenomenon, which is that he is both spending more money and has a lot more money at his disposal than some number of the existing owners in baseball, other owners and baseball should say. And so he is an outlier in that respect. But he is, I think it is a difference of degree rather than category. And so, you know, I don't think we have to hand it to him. In terms of his financial dealings as a hedge fund manager and I think that he is using his team. I imagine probably for his own enjoyment more than a sort of calculated strategy of reputation laundering, although I could be wrong about that. I don't know if he cares whether people like him or not. It does seem I mean, he got on Twitter and he did seem to be soaking up that. Yeah. There are definitely parts of his personality, at least as he has manifested them on social media that seemed to care a great deal about how people perceive him and sound like we're wanting for examples of billionaires who, despite having enough money to theoretically insulate them from having to care about that stuff or engaging with it being, you know, big babies. So it's not like that would be a new phenomenon, particularly on Twitter, but my sense of it is that the sort of overriding motivation seems to be that this is the new fun toy that he has in his possession and that he wants to enjoy owning it in a way that is perhaps a little bit different than like those sort of reputation laundering that we think of. When we think of sports washing, it can be both to be clear, but it's not like a live golf sort of situation exactly. I don't think. Right. And so there's that piece of it. And then there's what we do as consumers with the understanding that on the one hand, the most direct lever that we sometimes are led to believe we can pull is like a monetary one and withholding monetary support, but also I think that that impact tends to be relatively limited at least when it's on an individual basis rather than organized, but I don't want to let people off the hook either, right? Like sometimes I think that acknowledging the reality of there not being ethical consumption under capitalism is a way to let people are like, so it doesn't matter what I do. And it's like, well no, it still does matter, right? So there's that piece of it. I also want to acknowledge the difference that exists between someone even someone as wealthy and powerful as Steve Cohen relative to a state right with state power and all of the authority and power that comes with that and sort of the direct control that it brings in terms of other people's lives. So those are those are different even though I don't want to downplay the hugely outsized influence on the world around him that someone with Sue Cohen's financial resources can have. So I think that all of that is to say that it is like a big, yucky soup that we tend to swim in when we are when we are fans of things in this era of our existence. So I think that it's fine for you to enjoy the mets, particularly when the manifestation of his money is paying really good athletes to be good at their jobs. So there's that piece of it. I do think that it is really important for us as consumers of sports to not get overly enamored with these guys, right? Like when people were like, uncle Steve, I'm like, please relax. No. Please relax. This guy and this guy is like done financial crimes. He's done some crimes. So there's like good reporting on this that you should read. So like, I think you can enjoy the mets and also not feel the warm and fuzzies towards Steve Cohen and I think that we are able to hold those two realities and ethical choices like in our hands simultaneously.

"The thing is in talking. You waste dropping back the next season. Actually the world series strapped. Make up shit all the time looking at smile. It's like portnoy's is history in cooma is going to end up becoming frigging best pitcher of all time. That's the mets history. The thing about it is the i don't know what to call the. Kfc clem twosome are trying to make it. Seem like there's a stick from frank. But frank has been a diehard mets fan. That's like how fucking found him missing the subway. So everything is this man lives dies team and stick lansing who's been so negative seventy five and sunny. I hate seventy five degree weather like no matter what you say. And now. he's kim positive happens in your stephen your life. This was this all set up. Because i was wondering how they got to become the host of the run. I heard you over there. You mentioned my name very nice tie. Where'd you get that time for my club. It is open for business tomorrow night. It's only opening. Nfl probably like two to three times a year. If that so here you go you bet the over and the bucks tomorrow night. Barstools sportsbook in this tie. Which screams class sophistication points is available. Nice changes such clan and see they can. They can bet that that is see and we'll also be live in colorado. Let me say this clem. I expect out of kevin said many times used to be a man of honor and integrity. I didn't hear you say. Once when the mets were in that stretch like anything negative about got to fall. We gotta believe on instagram. We have our takeovers twice a week and there was a lot of negative being said. It's just the one extreme because the consul like the see you at that he would consul the first pitch but like fall one console than opening day before so if he can change. And i can change. I think it's so you guys are so stubborn. If you just like france right done fleming and and what i want is i want i want. I'd want all the wilpon holdovers. I want him gone including we will. And sandy alderson. I actually have to say that this. And i feel like and it is just i pay attention to the mets because you guys the off the field shenanigans. That happened this year. Are the most mets like thing. I can remember last cup home. That's why i'm so concerned me to justice in the last run down where it was literally just talking about the metro. Twenty people like wanting marie. Ceo in front out. I didn't futures good. But they got to get this wilpon. You got if. I'm understanding we'll on upon coincide hired a pervert right pervert sandy alderson who also hired. Mickey callaway hired this pervert so let's to perverts for sandy alderson dui and you guys may be right but you can go back and forth as a fan. You're playing while you're not playing well. And also if wilpon was tweeting tone would forget about god go through frank's tweets and we'll say to the mets are win or lose this game the see how objective and down the middle. He was along. I don't disagree with you. But the issue we have is mr positive verse. Mister negative kevin. Kevin he cancels consul. I call him as i see him. Dave right what happened to you. You used to be a straight guy strays slim and get an honest answer. Now you're making these cockamamie bets trying to get him to root against the mets i. I'm facing goddamn. He's a basic human menia case cartoon. I can't take him down. He just tells it screams about the mets all day. I kid two and four pairs of glasses and you know it's nuts. Nobody wants to mess to make the playoffs. More than this guy. i'll call. I'll call bullshit on that one. I listen. i've been traveling. I've been traveling..

"Winston keeping the saint starting quarterback job. Well of course this comes in the wake of the news. The sean payton his name james. Winston has starter which is like you know. There was no suspense to that Starting a week one and once it of course is coming off a season where he threw thirty picks. Nobody believes that. Sean payton is going to stand for that. Having had drew brees who took like four and a half season to amass thirty picks. I think he'll be the starter for reasonable at the time if people will call for his head when he has a bad game but i think he's the starter he's been in that system at least been able to practice and study it and walked through plays in it for over a year now frank. I think he's the starter for the foreseeable future. And that's all that crystal ball can tell you about. The nfl is foreseeable future. You're talking so much soccer on. I was convinced you were going to call them. Hamas and not jameis winston and. You're right about the thirty interceptions. But here's the thing. He's now with sean. Payton who's a very good coach. Good with quarterbacks and tastes him hill was his competition. Tastes hill is a good player. But for me he's a situational play for specialty downs. Absolutely so you know you have that in hill. So why would you mess with the give. Winston a chance here to succeed. I think spending a year with that system again. He's only twenty seven. he's a young player. I think lash you help. Remember came into the playoff game against tampa bay threw that touchdown pass. I think you give him a chance. He'll works maybe the first five six seven eight games. I think sean payton is onto something. I think james swinson all along was going to be the starting quarterback now whether or not he's the starting next season that's another story next season december. Who the hell knows that. Even that crystal ball but hill is a specialty. Try layer. Leave him in that role. He's comfortable with and his teammates. Those role opponents after prepare for it and they can't he does well in that role. Who is the next caller. I feel in frank high wilpon. I want to know if you see e. y. You joining the big twelve. Where you know. This comes in the wake. Frank of the athletic reporting that the big twelve is seriously interested. You know seriously discussing adding. Byu to the conference. I mean we're talking about now. Byu's byu. i don't know that. I have been waiting for better off a bigger offer. Maybe the pac twelve you know comes knocking on my door and the pac twelve is clearly still higher in the pecking order. Then the big twelve boise state is also in the mix. Yeah i think they could be added out west west west for real not to the big twelve. I don't the big twelve really. I don't know that. I want to join the big twelve. Even though frank it would mean more tv dollars jack or the currently independent. Byu i get that. But let's not make them sound like notre dame. Okay why you still need some support and they can find it and better elsewhere to me than the big to all right. The pac twelve is already said that they're not going to expand now. Maybe that's all negotiation. Byu and they have a great football tradition. There you mentioned your guy. Steve young also. Jim mcmahon they've had terrific players times. Were they've had a one loss season. Are they going to feed it and nobody takes him seriously as a team that could compete for national championship. The big twelve is going gonna change the hang on. Though if if they expand the playoff and they win the conference they would be one of those twelve team. So i think for them it makes sense and from a basketball standpoint. Why when you like it. You're going to get to play different deal. We know teams can split their alliances and allegiances now. Football and basketball don't have to be in the same unity. The playoffs getting expanded. It gives you a chance to get in there. Because who's to say if they don't go if they don't join a conference and if there's twelve teams they could get in. This would guarantee them away to get in if they win the conference. Well frank that is the biggest reason that they would go because we saw how much they cared about this last year. Yeah and once every thirty years or so. Byu pops up and they care about being included with the big boys in college football. All i'm saying to you is i'm not sure in their current state that the big twelve qualifies. How about a few y. You boise state at both of them to the big twelve. Okay then you got. I tell you what the pac twelve might wanna step convince you. I knew it the.

"How about. They just compete. Right now yeah. I is something wrong with this team. There's there's something off about it. I didn't get to hear the truth. While i don't know forever Really truly find out. What's going on. But i gotta believe if you're the owner and it continues this way and it's all it's i think it's past the point of no return that you're not gonna win with this group of players they you're going to have to figure out something you're going to get somebody in here. That is going to be able to make all the right moves. I think the big question but then going forward. Okay what do we do with marcus. Stroman because marcus stroman was here to replace wheeler that's why rhody bandwagon wagon made the move because they knew that they weren't under the wilpon word they weren't gonna pay wilpon. I mean wilpon wheeler yeah and that was a that was a big mess and you can see what we're doing with the phillies. It's a big mess. But let mubarak bring stroman and stroman is actually performed. Well right now. They're gonna have a question. What are you gonna do with him. Moving forward how you going to sign him to a huge contract which begs the question. What would we be here with. An offense that underperforms. That's the weird. That's the balance. Because i'm with you that wheeler is having a. I don't know if he's young but he's going to be the conversation lows. Are cy young award winner. Marcus stroman when the team scores. They win the problem. Is he's been. We have fun with the term. But he's been digress off season. They don't score for him. What's he he's actually showed. I think it was twenty six calls like that. He's been relatively reliable there about about fourteen quality starts or so and he's been good as last performance was great in that that is going to be a question for them. Come this off season. Or they're going to sign him to a big. You know he is the opposite. Michael conforto michael conforto had every reason to go out there and have a great season and get a big new contract. Strom has actually gone out there and had a great season. Are you know. He's a really good average. Yes that's definitely definitely above average. She's and deserves a new contract and a new. You know a big contract for that matter now. The question is you know this is dirt. Starting pitching all throughout the league and marcus has been out there every single time that they've asked him to go out there. Yeah so i you know. He's he's stepped up to the plate. He's gonna get paid by somebody. Whether it's i don't know but there's something wrong with this team. There's something wrong in that. Dugout and alonzo who called in earlier this morning. Not pedo lonzo alonzo who called in earlier. This morning said look. Did you see dom. Smith sitting on dougie dugout bench frustrated. He's not playing. he's not hitting. he's one of the reasons why team is where it is offensively and you see it throughout the dugout. You see it even even francis door mister smiley face himself beaten down to at this point i i think i think they're frustrated. And there's going to be changes coming. Unfortunately mike and massapequa real quick. What's up man the morning guys you know. I think. I think you know looking at this season for the mets. I mean i think the expectations would just unbelievably hard right. And nobody takes his incineration. You know what took place with the guam. I mean you know when they made them pitch five days after an injury and think you know me personally. I'm not saying it's disgraceful. It's it's just a terrible organization moving on from new moving on from that. You know people are complaining. Yankee fans on the dialogue yankee fans last night they put it in and i have to be honest with you. The the pitcher who closed the game last night should be a go to guy. 'cause he's blown nothing so we also hasn't been here all that long but i get your point i understand and you're not wrong about degrom. Being out and that the time offers should be better than they are right. They right and they were in first place for ninety days. They then this. So but here's the thing about the crime you know. The player deserves some credit or blame. Whatever however be one. Describe it for going back out there to pitch. If you're not right tell them you now right. And that's what he's probably telling them right now. Look i'm not right so they're not gonna there's no reason for him to come back. No there's no reason absolutely seasons essentially lost. Unless they want a yankee type. And i'm telling you i swear to god if he needs surgery for whatever whatever. The problem bone chips. Whatever the situation may be get it done now. Right the Right now get the today if he needs surgery. Don't wait get it done now. The seems over for the mets right now and as as the former athlete me says i want to compete. I wanna compete. I want to believe that. Peter lonzo is going to be mr positively and they're gonna all turn around and maybe go on a run who knows but for jacob degrom of he's not one hundred percent and that 'em mri says something and there's a question of whether or not he needs surgery. I don't wanna hear about him. Having surgery in december. You know what i mean. Be ready for spring training now for god. I totally agree. The morning show with boomer esiason and greg naughty boomerang geo jesus an over here and that means for me is kris k. Brought to you by flagging performance gear flag anthem. Real close for real life. Very smooth are quick rewrite from our first hour this morning for those who missed it yet. A wild ninth inning last night in atlanta the yankees did hold off the braves for a five four win their eleventh in a row but aroldis chapman almost gave it away struggling with his command again. That would did seem it. Ended the game at one point long before juan de peralta actually closed it at our also go three two with two inning. And chapman's payoff is cot on amazon of flight in dirt. Ballgame over yankees win. No don't do it don't do it. Don't do it now. The yankees are on the phone. Apparently the ball must have touched algae's bat and it wasn't held. I'm guessing i love talk themselves through it on the air. It's wondering last night whether or not this game had wore replaced any other game this it was insane or at least like the coaches. Hey are we gonna review it. Given the the hold on sign as the bench. Coach talks on the phone to the video guy so a lot of that going. I think it happens a lot more times than you realize. Well there wasn't last night's game that's for sure. Yeah so and some of the winter review some of them didn't oh look your voice here. Chubb rock areas. You're calling him. Chubb rock quality areas. Hey chubb rock. What's happening brother monitor. Now he didn't he didn't show up. Put some pounds on. Yeah yeah okay. Yeah why nipples thaw call him. Chubb rock thirty two. "Nerves this sasina nerd. I'm your host terrible. And we'll see as always is our mr producer wilpon arguing tonight will great l. of content and i'm not mad. I'm not either right before recording. I was joking about message. I said to you this morning that House like well seems same kind of light on the news this week Given that we have like four shows that we're talking about superman. Lois star girl titans and What if i was like well. You know it's not a bad thing but then and then after that. I like goto trends with. Do i see the eternal trailer. Yep sounds like oh semester beck well unexecuted. I felt that as like. Oh i need to go watch this because i don't really remember too much from the first trailer And which makes me happy and even though this trailers longer and it does tell you more plot points. I love the explanation about why now and it's related thanos and needed to the snap To to bring everyone back ironically not the first snap the second snap So i thought that that was great because it kind of again what. We're seeing whether especially with these tv shows that the more they're connected to the movies the more hamas don't know what the right word for it but the more entertained diam totally yes. This is great. I'll but this is a great trailer because even though it gives you a little bit expert exposition. There's still a lot you can tell that they are holding back a lot on these characters. The dynamics and the overall structure of this movie that apparently is gonna take place in the span of seven days. Yeah you're right. I mean the with the first trailer in that. We really Things maybe we talked about our podcast or maybe somewhere else but the question was out there. why didn't they. Why didn't the terminals intervene with with anos. And and and so yeah it and so i think it was very smart with this trailer to answer that question because the first one sort of like okay. We're interested entities. The visuals introduced folks to this new set of phase for characters. And then this trailer we will really lay out to the the reason that it's kind of like the same question of for example with wanda vision. would be like well.

So did you see he tweeted. I think it was a week ago. Right before during the middle of the philadelphia series against swept in philadelphia and he tweets out before i think it was before game two after the mental laws. That game wanted and really and he goes just spoke with the team. Had meeting feel like they're ready to take off. Whatever was something like that and mean will they get swept in philadelphia but that was like okay just had a team meeting. Everybody feels good. Or if you're positive and now a week later as they continue to lose that's what you're gonna find out. I understand professional odors candidate and again this is i mean. Listen people listening around the country. Don't care about this but this is a specific issue where the last owners were so bad in the wilpon people were happy about steve cohen. And all this stuff but but with the bottom line is you don't want your owner involved. The owners shouldn't be tweeting about the players. Should be in the luck. I guarantee you. When steve cohen walked out of the mets locker room people making fun of me on his back because like the owner comes in. And he's me like the owner. Stay out of the scene. Spend the money. And i do think the fans across the country can relate to this because you whether you have an hour. That would do something like that or whether you don't and would want it or do you like it. I took calls this morning on it. I may add the mets more than anybody. I thought this was a little much from him. And that fanduls it all. This is great holding accountable..

"For this kid so hard and so you know and this is the way it is. If you are a fan you call you. Admit to being in love with this franchise and his team. This is what you do. I mean my son's thirteen and he called yesterday and we have to go over. justin field. What do you think we're going to watch the film. Shut off back something you almost hope is is what we have. I mean. i'm not a bears fan. I'm not a hater either. But i would just say we'll just knowing what you've gone through with this team. You almost hope he comes back to earth this prec- like let them have a bad game or to better. He does the greater the expectations. The more pressure the worst it becomes when he goes out there and has an eight for twenty one with two picks game if that ever happens which is going to happen. Because that's what even great quarterback right but it needs to happen in the preseason. Okay so the kid from north dakota state or wherever he's from i mean he had one of those he went five for twenty one or something like that. He had eighty our personnel fans right. Yeah one of the games where you can just sorta slow your roll and you can let the starter start. You can let dalton start and just leave it alone. I will tell you the one year. The one thing that i saw it feels looks. Good feels does look good. Yeah well i'll give you one other guy. And i don't i think i think it's a mistake. I would start cam. Newton but that kids much better than cam newton with that team right now matt jones right now and you know mike you know what happened. You know the bill. Belichick would never have drafted kid. If nick sabin didn't say to him bill he can run your offense all the now but you don't have to run week one. I don't know i don't think you see. I don't think be tempted to do. He wants only bellichik job. Matt nagy job is still on the line. And so i know and and by the way i thought it was admirable that nagy said look i want him to be a spectacular as everyone of you so basically negatives come out and done something coach never does. He's admitted yes. Our jobs are on the line. This kid needs to be great at some point but then they put the brakes on and said you know listen. Listen let's slow down twenty. No one is hearing him. No one is not here so the day today. You know in love that he may as well be john elway. You know one thousand nine hundred ninety seven for all anybody could they just don't want to see andy dalton. "Because this game against spain it was a victory yes. They beat them also before the olympic started. What i was concerned by was the fact that this was not at all easy in the second quarter. Spain was up by ten right. You know ricky rubio shows up looking messianic in terms of his beard and his long hair and he ends up playing messianic lee as well he had thirty eight. I believe the most ever scored against an american men's basketball team ever so the issue here is that yes they get a big win over a good team but the symptoms the problems. The fact that damian lillard couldn't get off the bench for the last seven minutes of this game because he's not shooting well and seemingly is nothing like himself that to me is very worrisome. Headed into the semi fine okay. So last week wilpon was on the show and will bond said. After the american team lost to france he said oh boy. You know the czech republic. They're really good in iran. They only lost a france by six or seven. They're really good and says the gap is closed. Everybody has caught up to us. And i listened to this. I rolled my eyes a couple of times. And i thought to myself and then said the following iran is a fifty point game. The czech republic is a thirty point game and the united states is going to win the gold medal. And i'm going to stay. I'll play hold also. I'll play hold on that particular position. I understand that australian slovenia very good australia. I think in las vegas in an exhibition game. Beat the united states. Yes but if i'm not mistaken the nba finals was still going on so booker. And middleton and holiday were not available to the americans then and kevin durant somebody look this up for me scored seventeen point so i think he was sort of distracted. Kevin durant the best basketball player in the world and of kevin durant is on with minimal. Help the united states is the best team. I'm glad you mentioned ricky rubio. Because all he doesn't united states is pass. I like i always thought he could be great by. He became the prototypical point guard that he was always passing always passing. Spain's been good for a while. Not quite on american level. That's all but that final the gold medal game. Think about it though. It's not just australia. Which no one two games in a row. I believe against team. Usa slovenia has not lost because they have luca danni rich with by on their team. They have not lost. And so the idea that kevin durant versus luca in a gold medal game regardless of who wins. I want to see that specific match happen. Apologies the oceanic. No i totally agree with that totally agree. Let's take a break coming up. Or the sixers smart by keeping a high asking price for ben simmons and the yankees get upstaged by cat. They can break. So here's what the lakers have to do. This week. "Why to go. You thought the mets ready to go toe to toe. You're satisfied if they just sneak into the playoffs and they lose three games losing three games. But yes i'm satisfied. They made the playoffs this year. One of a new ownership regime. But you're also in degrom being hurt changes everything but you're also wasted another year of him and said we have a three to five year plan. And you guys want it done in. One wanted to be better than this in year one. Yes al- always be better. Are they playing up to their full potential. They've been ravaged with injury yet have they. Are they over cheating right now. Given how many injuries they see. I were achieved in. I don't think they're over achieving. How many injuries in baseball. Everybody's got injuries. We're pushing upwards of sixty roster players this year this is what's going on kevin. I know what's going on. Twitter has gotten to you. All the negative met fans on their. You want to go after them. The lindores you call him. I see it all frank fleming with every negative taken the world. They've gone to you and you've gone the complete opposite way to combat them and you've lost your mind. You what has happened to me gregory steven a cohen. This all changed. I changed with cohen because everybody acted forever. Like i was in a rational mets fan. And i wasn't. I was the most rational mets fan during the wilpon because everything they did was crash every move they made was garbage and we knew they weren't winning teeth. That guy comes and changes everything. Because now i believe in him and now you gotta give him. Some slack aren't so you're blaming. Cd colin for anything. I'm blaming the players. I don't. I don't think they've played to their potential. They just haven't been also sandy. Zach scott now wait now wait. You're talking there's two things going on. There are players who have played up who have not even come close to their potential and then there are players who have far exceeded their potential. And that's what i love about the team. And that's what. I can't believe people on getting behind the bench mob and the and the squad that like is is like prue baseball lists land for the love of the game. Those guys are all great. But that's but that's part of the problem is what makes a great team. Is the bench. Mob complementing the great players. The great players aren't playing great. Haven't been there yet right year doing each year. One of ten within door pita lonzo hit. Four thousand home runs two years ago. He's been don't tell me he's got twenty three home runs. He's been disappointing this year. You can't argue that lindores been terrible. I never i never expect. Almost.

"I would say if you only list out the words and don't talk about the problems that you want to so with with these technologies with these concepts. It's just words. It's just buzzwords so i think it's really crucial in if you as an organization to engage. Artificial intelligence went to make use of robotic process automation. That you really think about the problem that you want to tackle with on ebay shin that you want to enable with it and not only to for example for the sake of doing the i so so this is a i thought how connected of course Data science artificial intelligence would say are in in separately connected because there wouldn't be any meaningful artificial intelligence Without data science and of course also robotic process automation something that can benefit from artificial intelligence and robotic process automation can also generate data. That can be used for an analysis without efficient halogens. So i definitely would see all of these things being connected in one way or the other think these are different names used in different context end of the day in my view. It's about computer based processing. That's happening in different context. We tend to use different terms. And then they relate to data. And that's what challenge and that lead me to ask you. How do you see the interplay between privacy because traditionally we are used to seeing its privacy. Never and privacy. They're seen as some people see them as full as some people t them as friends but in your world when you're saying the grid synthetic data you're rather using to assist in privacy exactly exactly so And completing the same page with you traditionally over. I would say within less mature organizations probably leave. It's oftentimes seen as either. You can do artificial intelligence or you can do privacy. But i think the more mature organization gets the more ways it find it finds to benefit from a in regards to privacy protection and also to find ways like for example synthetic day to ensure that intelligence is wilpon privacy friendly way so definitely with my background in synthetic data wouldn't see privacy artificial intelligence as being enemies indeed not and i think then we working on privacy an era in context and in your work. You're making Has an enabler of privacy but people are also seeing a privacy as a hindrance for a. Isn't that so. I mean menu are making. These data sets all databases on analyzing. Doesn't privacy law hinder. You protect you from doing these things. Privacy law prohibiting actions. And i would say some privacy laws making i actions more difficult specific in the context of synthetic date the way we use it a wooden say that this is the case simply because the way we used synthetic data is to anonymous state and for example cheap explicitly states that anonymous state in case it successful. The anonymous is accent from a privacy regulations and therefore it's possible to really use share and store synthetic date also processing into something..

Bucks Bounce Back to Beat Nets and Force Game 7

"We begin today with the milwaukee bucks going wire to wire to defeat brooklyn by fifteen points last night. Kevin durant scored thirty two for brooklyn but it took him thirty shots to get it. Chris middleton and janta compo- were much better they combined for sixty eight points and twenty seven rebounds and they shot twenty-three for thirty six wilpon does milwaukee's performance lead you to believe they can go to brooklyn and win game seven they can. Yes tony and you outlined all the important numbers all of them. And then there's one that's even more important it's zero number of three pointers jacked up by answers compo- none he didn't do it. He kept his big strong quick fast. Talented self in the space where he should be. Don't eat what you. I've been screaming for even the previous series. He kept himself near the basket and did his work there and stop jacking up those shots now. We know they can do it will they. I mean that's the first smart gamed. The bucks have played in. This series should have won the series already. If they had taken the same tact particularly with onto the kupu. But i do. I have faith that they will go with that same recipe. I don't know that. I have that faith. What about you. okay. So yes i agree with you that they can win right and one of the ways they could win as if pj tucker was able to do to kevin durant again in game seven what he did in game six. Because tucker was plus thirty and durant was minus seven but mike game six was not critical for brooklyn. They had a game to play with because the critical game for them was game five and they want it so for every home team has won. You have to tell me why that's going to change now. I look back on game five. And i see kevin durant scoring forty nine points. He's a great great player. I somehow have faith that if it's up to him to win game seven at home. He's going to win it.

"Mark. Fine san of mlb dot com joins us. Now we are baseball loaded. If you listen to wilpon you know how much he enjoyed the san diego. La dodger series. And i will certainly talk about that. But i think above all else is the madison bumgarner circumstance. Madison bumgarner threw a seven inning. No hitter yesterday. And the reason he didn't throw a nine in no hitter is because it was a seven inning doubleheader as per the new baseball rules. My question is if baseball makes a rule that doubleheaders will be seven innings in certain circumstances. And you can't go nine. Is that a no hitter. Because that's the official game. Is that a no hitter. Well the elias. Sports bureau says no. They're the ones who make these decisions. for major league baseball you know if a guy throws a no hitter in the game gift suspended or cancelled for rain and the game is an official game at five innings That a no hitter. That's also been ruled as a no so You know. I unfortunately for baumgartner that he won't go in the history books as having a no hitter Would have been the first of his career But you know who cares right. I mean these are these are these are little things that You know madison. Bumgarner is not gonna need this no hitter to cement his reputation. I'm pretty sure what he did. In the world series is going to be what we remember him for whether he throws four no hitters from here to the end of his career.

The Mets Quest To Rebuild, And Rebrand, Themselves

"So tim. It's certainly been a roller coaster of an off season for the new york mets. How would you characterize the state of this. Mets organization as we head into the twenty twenty one season. I feel like the mets are still in kind of a period of transition as an organization. Steve cohen took over at the start of november and he brings in sandy alderson. The team's former general manager as his team president guy who's really well respected around the game of baseball and the thought was they wanted to instill a new culture for the mets to build this new mets team. That was totally different from what they had previously under wilpon ownership and for two and a half months they nailed it. We're going to build a process that produces great teams year in and year out. You bill champions you. Don't buy them. They nailed the opening. Press conference and i plan to make the investments. We need to succeed. It started signing guys. Trevor may and james mccann. They make a huge landmark trade for francisco endure and carlos carrasco the first week of january and everything was rolling in the right direction for them until mid-january and the story about jared porter and his inappropriate text messages and texts photos with a female reporter while he was a member of the chicago cubs front office in two thousand sixteen exposed that maybe the mets could have done a better job in the vetting process. That was clearly for a lot of baseball reporters. Based on the inference took off of twitter talked and he will find out his character. That's on you. Skepticism is really exacerbated. A couple of weeks later when we learned about micky calloway's misconduct as mets manager. In two thousand eighteen. Twenty nine thousand. Nine callaway sent unsolicited messages and photos to women among other inappropriate and harassing behavior. The former mets manager aggressively pursued the women through messages and in person the team released a statement saying was hired by sandy alderson. As the general manager. Calloway had been hired by. Sandy alderson two years before so i think all of the good vibrations from the first couple months of the offseason were undercut by what happened in the last month of the offseason for mid january to the start of spring training in february

Francisco Lindor: New Hope For Mets Fans?

"For a big splash. A big domino to tip over and the mlb off season and we got one yesterday. The new york. Mets acquired francisco lindores and carlos carrasco from the cleveland indians for two shortstops in two minor leaguers and enormous transaction. How surprised are you that this happened not surprised at all. Buster olney is the host of the baseball tonight partly cast and he has been covering baseball for more than three decades. Look the last few years there had been so much industry speculation about when would the indians trade lynn door. In fact a couple of years ago. Paul dolan their owner told that the fan base look. Enjoy while you can. Because it was an assumption he was going to be traded. I think if not for the pandemic he would have been traded in the middle of last summer so the indians move in now and the fact that the mets were the buyers. That's not surprising either. Because i think mets fans have been waiting for Steve owns team to to make a big move and he certainly did that. And getting the best shortstop in baseball. Yeah i want to ask you about the cleveland side of the equation in a little bit. But i i wanna dive into the buyer that you mentioned because steve cohn buster. The mets new owner hedge fund billionaire self identifying proudly so diehard mets fan from long island. He's been on twitter. I'll off season making very loud noises about this being a new different kind of organization. You know we want to be excellent in all areas of this game That's going to require resources. And i'm fully committed to making that happen. He is so monumentally. Wealthy i mean he was one of the few people who didn't lose money in this pandemic shortened twenty twenty season. So what does this tell you about the promise of his regime yeah. He's the richest owner in baseball. Now and i. I wrote a piece Free espn dot com. That for mets fans who have suffered through their. Ptsd of the wilpon. Yes this is that the finally they get their reward were they have an owner. Who's willing to go toe to toe with the yankees owner. Who bills a team. That has continued success. I don't just want to get into the playoffs. I want to win a championship. You know through the years. Since i've been working in the new york market the assumption whenever a really big name came up. Was that the yankees. Probably elbow the mets out of the way and they would get the players in the in. The mets would operate like an upper middle class team rather than a big market team and this deal signals a change in that. But what i do believe. Is this a major markelle tune during the should have a budget to measure with the yankees coulda used shortstop. There are other big market teams. That could use a shortstop. And the mets get the best shortstop so because you are a veteran of the new york market i need to know how is indoor going to help reshape. Just the identity of the team itself because i mean nolan reported future about him. We'll get to that a bit as well but just how good is he. What's potential here well. He's the perfect player for the mets right. Now he's an elite defensive shortstop smash back can't buy off-balance throw in recent years jacob. Degrom has been great. Despite the fact that mets have been really poor on defense. It's shorts especially they need more lineup. Ballots lindores a switch hitter. They could use more power drill door with law. Law door hits for power. They could use speed lindores does that. He looked like the road runner as he took off from first base and he absolutely has the personality to be the face of a franchise in new york. You talking about someone who loves to play is nicknamed mr. smile. Hangmen fans absolutely will gravitate toward him. Yeah

Trader Joe's Fall Products to (Pumpkin) Spice Up Your Shopping List

"Welcome to another of our short shopping list episodes. I'm Tara Miller director of words and phrases and clauses, and I'm Matt Sloan, the marketing product guy now just about everyone in every type of business has had to make adjustments during this pandemic but we're proud the trader Joe's has maintained a commitment to developing new products to giving you that sense of discovery on every visit. So, let the discoveries begin. All right hold on I'm just organizing. I don't even know where to start there. So many new products. What's purple on the outside creamy white on the inside and makes a Great Ship Donny Osmond socks no. Almost Masaaki sweet potatoes. They're not the normal sweet potato. They're not the bright orange sweet potato, their paler in color and flavor. Wise. I'm going to say that they're kind of like a roasted chestnut in obnoxious kind of way. But in a nice way like insists nutty sweetness these are great chips but wait met we sell. Masaaki. Potatoes in our protection when we can get them. These are delicious sweet potatoes people love them. They're great for you. You meant the sweet potatoes themselves. You mean in chip form that these should be considered some kind of health. Okay. These are potato chips, full disclosure, right So they come with all the caveats that regular chips do sweet potatoes themselves really good for you. I will stand by them. Those are probably in the store. Already I think those are coming in at the beginning of September or something like that, and they are limited because there's a limited number of these potatoes that can be made into chips. People associate trader Joe's with Pumpkins stuff in the fall. How about Pumpkin Spice Pretzel Slim's I mean this is a candy. Yes Pretzel but it's a pretzel that is swimming in really nice white chocolate with crushed pumpkin spiced pumpkin seeds and I think we're trying to figure out another way to Pumpkin on their one more time. These are just great. So if you like the peppermint. Pretzel Slim's. I think you'd be a fan of these to these are really tasty sweet with just a little salty. So you just WANNA keep coming back for more. Another thing. That is sweet. But I think not too sweet are the pumpkin spice batons that are coming in and those are kind of a very close relative to the cocoa batons that we have every day and the vanilla batons we have the villa batons. Do, and we've had coffee batons we lemon for awhile it's a wafer cookie with pumpkin spice filling inside I mean it's kind of simple and straightforward, but it's a you know kind of thing you could have with a cup of coffee or even some ice cream though should be in stores by the time. This podcast lands and folks should be able to grab those right away. They're just delicious when we're thinking about. What else to include as a Pumpkin version we often look to really popular products Brioche we sell an inordinate amount of that classic agee, Sweet french-style Bread. We have a Pumpkin Brioche coming I'm excited for this. I think French toast will never be the same. That was also super limited by the right like it's it's in and we'll have it for a little while, but it's not something that's going to be around for. You know months and months and months. That's our hope for infant works or it'll be a great. Saint. Patrick's Day breakfast and by that time it'll be green. So perfect. One of the things that was a big sort of revelation to me this year even though it's not something we invented it's not something we were the first to think of is the spicy pumpkin curry simmer sauce that's coming in. It's kind of inspired more by a Thai curry than Indian curry but it has all of those really classic curry flavors. With the addition of actual Pumpkin and it's like thick and it's creamy and it's got a really good kick to it. I'M GONNA. Say This is good. Right out of the jar actually with Yeah Yeah I can't wait to hear about how people put this to use. We are working on a recipe right now internally for a Vegetarian Spicy Pumpkin Curry potpie that we're hoping to have on our website and in the fearless flyer in late. September. Also, I think slated to be featured in an upcoming flyer many spicy Pumkin Samosas the. Sabih in the frozen section, this is not a Pumpkin pie situation at all. This is an appetizer wonderful bridge creamy spiced pumpkin filling. This does sort of flavor. Wise. Go more toward the Indian style curry Classic Somoza Spices are used this. These are delicious. They're really good with a number of different kinds of sauces has been a we've tried them with a Chutney but also with our sweet chili sauce, which takes its inspiration from Thai cuisine and the hot and sweet pepper Jelly these tastes really good dipped in any of those. I'm still focused and obsessed with Pumpkin Pumpkin Nada. Now, this is a Pumpkin pie situation. So think of a small Mexican inspired hand pie with delicious spiced kind of a classic spice, Pumpkin Pie Spice filling. So. Good. So not like spicy spice but like sweet savory spice, the spices more like our spiced apple cider or a traditional Pumpkin pie spice sat up I mean this would be great for breakfast I. Think because I like to have pie for breakfast you know pine a cup of coffee is a great way to start the day, and this is like a little pie. So it's like I'm just having a little Lil Pie wilpon. That's your new nickname. Okay.

Carlos Beltran Out as Mets Manager After Astros' Cheating Scandal

"We got the news about one o'clock today that yet. Another person untied to the Houston Astros. Cheating scandal has lost his job. Carlos Beltran recently hired by the mets to be there next managers out of his job before even having having a meeting in spring training. That's because he was named in. The Commissioner's report released the other day for his role in the Astros signed stealing scandal of two thousand seventeen eighteen Beltran and the mets both indicated. Today that this was a mutual decision but I suspect that a week or two weeks ago even those with knowledge of the science dealing details from two thousand in seventeen believed that Houston. GM Jeff Luneau Astros Manager Aj. Hinch Red Sox manager Alex Cora now Carlos Beltran would still have have their jobs and they're all out and that's where we are probably Vera covers baseball for ESPN. She knows. Carlos Beltran now score very well Marley. How you doing? It's been a crazy week. I think crazy is a very good adjective buster special like no that totally can managers. Were highly touted. I don't have a job today. Unbelievable let's let's start with Carlos Beltran. That is the the most recent news. I'm going to also ask you about Alex. Corsie is we go forward but but I about Carlos. I thought that when the mets didn't put out a statement immediately on Monday evening after the Commissioner's report came out out the fact that the mets didn't come out right away and have a statement from Jeff Wilpon from Brody Bandwagon. And saying this is our guy. Carlos Beltran is our manager edger. And that's what we're going to do moving forward because what was in the report involved the Houston Astros in two thousand seventeen. The commissioners made it clear that Carlos this is not going to be disciplined for his role in that because he's the player at that time but the fact that they didn't put out that statement on Monday and then dragged out into Tuesday day and then Wednesday. You could see that the mets they were weighing their options and just as someone who covered the mets back in one thousand nine hundred seven having worked in New York market for a long. I've never seen an organization that is more affected by public opinion than the mets. And I thought Yep that he at some point. They're going to let him go. What what did you think absolutely couldn't agree more with what you said? And not only that the fact that you know one of the reasons why they hired Beltran was because it was excellent in publicity. Ns S you. And I know spending so much time covering baseball in New York. The mets have failed many times on the PR department. And this would hiring hiring Carlos Beltran. They bought themselves all this goodwill right the return of the prodigal son with everything that had happened when he had left the comments of the Wilpon when he used to be a you know. Oh a mets player. Everything gets kind of water under the bridge. There's just you know one of the most impressive press conferences that I have attended you know at city field so it was just as big. Pr Moment and then all of a sudden I agree with you. They got swayed by public opinion. And one of the things that Carlos Beltran and as you mentioned before which is important you state. The aren't family our friends of mine. So my activity here Sometimes can be a little bit swayed but the point is that can handle the media. He's been you know he was a player for twenty a years worked on a capacity assistant with the Yankees and so on and I feel that this was in my opinion. Definitely a wilpon decision muster. Oh No no question. The way this was described I think Carlos but at a statement they talked about a mutual decision. No way like this like Carlos I think absolutely was set on going forward but they say as all the conversation was taking place in New York to columnists were were taking aim at this and they are asking questions. Well what. What did the mets ask Carlos about? After the first athletic story came out about the signed stealing. And how would the mets feel about Carlos not having credibility with the media and it became a real hot topic on talk radio here and one stat ball started rolling downhill and then Aj hinch losses job and Jeff Luna lost his job and Alex. Cora lost his job. There was no way the mets leadership was going to stand in the way of that momentum and stand up and say in the past it was in the past which by the way is what Brody van wagon and said back in November. He kind of indicated like well. That's not really a mets problem. That's an astros throws problem. But their their their words their tone definitely changes week the only aspect that I can you know Ah have gone in this process. One of the things were Carlos may have had some input. Devil's advocate here. Is that one of the things that Carlos Beltran they'll turn and and you and I have covered a great deal of is the fact that he does not like off. The field distractions buster. And I think at that is the part or they'll go. You know what this is the right decision. He is one of those guys that likes to talk baseball. I remember what it was like the whole scandal with Iran in the Yankees Yankees Carlos Beltran was part of the Yankees Organization at the time as a player and he refused to engage in sort of those conversations so there is an aspect of how much he doesn't like the distraction and then that part certainly you know he could have had any input on but I I agree with you. This isn't you know the mets founded selves in an island. Having to make a decision and they got swayed by Jim Crane did and obviously you know what the Boston Red Sox decided to do. After the imposition of a penalty suspension to Alex Score. So let's breakdown go by the way. Yeah exactly breakout some other elements of this What do you think the mets miss out on? Not Having Carlos Beltran altron their manager. Carlos Beltran is an excellent leader. And I think that's one of those things that has been a little bit missing the New York Mets Organization. He drives arrives you. He's one of those guys that inspires others other players and he also galvanizes clubhouses right. He he was the player for the day when he was with the Yankees. Hanky along with Andrew Miller he always has always been so well spoken and he crosses that kind of you know barrier quote Unquote Latino players. And you know the players that are not Latino and I felt that he could galvanize that clubhouse very very well and I think that's the number one thing that the mets are going to miss out on and this is a man who obviously has left the game for a long time doesn't need the money this isn't right and it was honestly doing this job because he truly wanted to make an impact in organization that really has lost their way a little bit in the last couple of years so I think it's a huge loss. So they mess. We're GONNA do not have Carlos Beltran but I do understand the decision. In terms of the whole quote in quote distractions off the field now. I'm not as close to him as you are if I was I think and he asked me my advice in this situation. Now that he's lost the job of the mets would. I think I would tell them was Carlos you need to hold a press conference in New York have rent out a room at a hotel or restaurant invite all the reporters to come and basically say I'm here to answer all your questions about what went on with Houston with me back in two thousand seventeen eighteen. Because I think that's the only way he's going to be able to manage at some point down the road and all I heard for the last decade is this is someone who absolutely terrific manager in the future future. He has to be great at this job but I think that would allow him to and let's face he's never going to move past this. It's already cost him his job but at least to get past those questions would be to tell the writers. I'm here to answer every question you people have about what take place and I'll tell you exactly really what happened. What do you think about that? I don't know that I mean I. I would love for that to happen. Let's be very clear. I don't know that the benefit for for Carlos it's worth it If if one of the drugs and he said this in an introductory press conference specifically said I didn't want any job I don't need need a job. I wanted to stay in New York. Carl has very very young children. They're all right like very yes. Three kids are all very young during school in your this is where they reside the kids go to school will. So there's only two baseball jobs that he would apply for the New York Yankees and the New York mets and he's not gonna get either one of those jobs so I just don't think that at this point point it benefits the family anyway and I do think that Carlos will do what's best for his family especially having young children Buster and I know you know that you had young children at one time. It's the point that these kids have to see the paper tomorrow. They're going to be in school. They're old enough. You know and I feel like it would rehash a lot of topics. Is that right now. Maybe people are going to move on you know and and just gone from that now if he later on when the kids are a little bit older he wants to do something else. Maybe at that point but but at this point I just don't see the benefit.
