I told her i quit. My job is to go on this tour. She was all right cool. That's cool. How far like all right. then after. a while. Then more bookings in touring and then she was asked she would say i'm proud of you stay. I'm glad you listen to me. This has been great man It's really good to catch up with you before we get out of here. Is there anything else. We haven't talked about anything else. That's on your mind anything else. You wanna get out there Now i'm just put out some kinds of all kinds of crazy music though all kinds of collaboration as you probably wouldn't expect man. I'm going all over the place. Where aprons now man is going to be scan. Go i love a man. I'm stoked to hear everything you're working on and i'm gonna ask you one last question before we get out of here. It's the question. I asked the end at each one of these episodes. As kind of just like the first thing that pops in your head kind of question Just looking for a time in your life the memory a moment when it could be from any time in your life when in a single moment music really deeply affected. You really had a deep impact on you in that moment and that's meant to be super broad. There's no wrong answer. Honestly is there's a lot like i'm really the worst out on the spot moments but i guess one comes up to mind. Was i remember. Hearing a song. Verona on the radio the time all the time and are always. Remember the melody and this was back then. When there's obviously there's no the only on the radio that they played is if they said it was a new song by song so and that rarely happens. So i would hear the song of the time as like a maybe like i was a twelve years old thirteen. Maybe maybe even before maybe it was like a ten know whatever but anyway. They obviously didn't his song again and after years i was like i remember. I was in middle school. High schools like yo. What song is an remember hearing. The melody can know the melody. But how can i find a song from just as melody as our way demar research research didn't find anything. Confining thing because a melody i had. I had an old the lyrics right then i was like whatever manage kinda give up on it and then years later when i was in high school like a senior minion and maybe was in college. Actually computer and i came across the song and it was a week. This is the song crazy. Because i love this song confiding Lakewood eight years right so i was like man on the line. Listen to it a hundred times like in like one hundred fifty times a day after Founded and still bears on tuesday and is push the feeling on by Caller shit like what assigned. Mk mk dub. Obviously but that that song man no matter like where. Like every time i hear. It's never gets old samoan. Yeah yeah yeah. Yeah i love i mean that's such a classic and i'm sure last people have that kind of experience with that song but i love any kind of music where it can just instantly put you back in a memory or instantly put you back in a feeling within two seconds you know yes exactly like there's not even thought involved. Yeah that's the song that no matter. what mood. I'm in if any some of them out. And i hear it man. You could definitely see me. Change like instantly like our own must log like a burst of energy and not. Just be super happy and not songs do that. So yeah hundred percent. Those are the songs were chasing his producers. Right that's the impossible dream so timeless. Yeah man i love that. That's like yeah. Some of my favorite songs are exactly those kind of moments. But yeah there's been great man. It's good catching up with you. Great to talk to you know same man. Thanks for having me man take care. Liberties all right. That's the show is set out to eight drums. Thanks for coming through. It was great to have you on for everybody out there listening. Don't forget ape drums. These sound boy. Ep is our right now on mad. Decent he's one third of major lazer. They're going to be back on the road heavy. Once everything is fully kicked back into gear. You know how they do it. So go follow abe drums. Keep up today with everything. He's doing the link for that is in the description. You can follow me as well at willie joy or at back to back pot on all social media. Come join the back to back. Discord lincoln description as well and Yeah i that's about it. What else you guys need. You need a massaged. Need me to come over and rub your feet. I mean i can do it. But it's gonna cost extra you know what we'll we'll work that out off of the podcast you know. Just just hit me up in the dmz. We'll work that out yup. It's usually time for me to end the podcast. When i find myself Making arrangements to rub listeners. Feet privately Yeah it's time to turn off the recorder so for everybody out there. I hope you're doing well. I love you all. I'm sending you lots of support on anything. You're working on any goals you're trying to accomplish and that is about it. I will talk to you next week. Big things common. I'm excited. I hope you're excited to take care of yourself. Take care of the people around you. And i will talk to you next tuesday for back to back. This is willie joy peace..

"Wary are you in? ? Sydney. . <hes> in Sydney. Yes. . . So I live in <hes> Sidney Australia <hes> is camera everything's Okay you look great. . Ula Great. . Yeah. . Yeah. . Sweet <hes> Yeah in Sydney in my studio. . I, , live in the northern beaches, , which is <hes> basically like <hes> I'm right next to manly beach <hes> and so I the Hassi with my wife and baby boy and I built a studio in one of the kids rooms and it's like a room within a room. . So we kinda built it up over a COUPLA months? ? And when I close it all you can't hear anything. . So at some I, , get to let him using whatever. . That's really nice man and yeah. . especially with a kid to it's it's nice to be close to home but still have your own space I can come in here and cry can unknown me. . It's great. . Right, , you can go be the baby. . That's so funny man how's your quarantine? ? How are you guys doing out there? ? Honestly like okay it's <hes> it depending where you live in Australia I think the answer will be very different Yep in Sydney. . It's been. . Orion. . It's we haven't had a huge amount of cases. . I think yesterday we had like one case in New South Wales in. . Sydney <hes> and <hes>. . You know Melbourne's a different story in complete lockdown I was speaking to a friend that lost not. . So it's very different via bit <hes>. . Personally it's been it's been quite nice being off the road and hanging out with family <hes> being in the studio and making music of made more music than I ever have in my whole Korea basically because I'm just sat in this room, , you know so. . I'm just I guess making the best of a bad situation and just <hes> in doing everything I can. . So when we get back out there one day <hes>, , we can keep going yeah. . One hundred percent men I mean, , are you do you enjoy long studio periods like this not necessarily because of these circumstances but like are you a studio guy? ? <hes> I am but actually never had this amount of time in his life in one studio. . It's always been a laptop on the road. . So it's it's a new focus that I have <hes>. . It feels really good and I'd like board new cables and stuff and new since and <hes> and kind of noting out of it more I'm loving people doing their live streams like especially like the. . Disclosure, , ones and those are crazy. . It's just so amazing I. . so even people like <hes> coming up and and and learning how to produce. . It's so valuable <hes> by so that give back mentality I think is is Sonia. . That's that's been really cool. . Yeah. . Disclosure one is crazy and I also like a lot of people are doing you know sort of <hes> demos submission listening feedback kinda streams. . Where's Oh? ? Yeah. . Yeah. . Where people just send in things that working on our songs and they listen to it, , you know live and give feedback and <hes>. . So the people. . So it's like upset one in I'm not sure if they're gonNA listen to mind and go from there. . I mean I think everyone has a different submission process, , but I know like <hes>. . Actually, the , way I found out about the disclosure stream was I was watching I don't know if you know Kenny beats he does like rap production stuff yet. . Yeah. . He does <hes> like a beat battle kind of thing where he'll put he'll give everyone a sample and then you have a few hours to make a beat and then he kinda ranks those and he'll have guest judges. So . disclosure came on to judge that and that's yeah, people , do. . Stuff there's so many different things happening that. . Never would have stayed out. . So you look at it that way just like you gotTa, , you gotTa make lemonade you know <hes>. . A friend of mine <hes> Lyndon J whose in a band called Faw I'm FA double I. . Came, , out with a song colds <hes> hush. . Forget the song name but the point is <hes>. . He gave the instrumental out to everyone and everyone kind of had their own vibe on and like they were the singers instrumentalists and you got like two hundred submissions of people doing their own thing on this one bait Moore is really cool. . I found. . So it's yeah, , it's a nice. . It's it's a really crazy time and really sad because obviously it's tragic and people. . In their lives and their jobs and all that kind of stuff. . But I feel very fortunate to be in a position where it's like I can take this time to <hes> you know figure out what my next step is.

"Massive stuck spe has behind me. . I did a livestream. . An okay. . Yeah it was up. . It's been a long time. . I did it's been forever and I don't know I mean have you. . Ever actually like talked on the phone or anything, , no member we used to we used to chat online when I lived in La Yeah in two thousand twelve. . Both doing crazy fast. . sped moment on tall things. . Like. . That's absolutely right. . Bad. Yeah. . . That's it's such. . A funny period like doesn't that just seems like another lifetime now Eight dollars an. . Hour for. . In the music was fun at the time but. . I really believe what I do now is a bit more time less like I wouldn't go back and listen to. . Think, , high's music is a is a lot more a lot longer life span on. . Glad I ended up. . Doing nine basically. . Well Yeah we'll. . We'll talk about all of that for sure I mean I was just stoked to have you odd man. . Thank for doing this in the first place not someone. . Oh. . My God Tel Aviv and I mean, , how? ? How has your year been because I mean for you? ? You know I mean you just released the boiling point album, , which is I mean that's a big deal for any artist I. . Think for for what you've been doing. . That's kind of like a benchmark moment but then we're in this weird time in the world right? ? It was meant to be probably the best year and We had to cancel half the album to album was coming out at the end of March. . So we we come soda and but it's a funny one because it's a bit like it's a great time to release music as well as being a bad song because you can't really benefit off. . Getting, loads , of bookings off the back of your album when his notebook ins. . Much doing I'm actually doing a few things lately outdoor things. . Yeah it's not the same bombing still Scott veto and it's better than nothing. . Yeah. . Well, , when you say you've been doing stuff have you been late are outdoors shows that are happening over in the UK? ? Yes. . Lhasa idea to and you capacity car park and everyone was. . Set in these little metal so a cages. . Saddam Dune a bigger one with Jonas blue, , which which is more in the country. . saw it up. . North. . It looks really Nice Scott Stream flowing through it like <hes> between the DJ in the crowd and. . So that's good. . That's great. . For Dj's you don't want to interact with anyone because there's a river separating. . So. . We lose call I'll say everyone sat on tables and then. . The Saturday after similar one down Saif. . Paperless starting to do stuff but the winter's come inside don't know what that means. . Really. . Yeah. . I mean there's been some of those. . I'm in Washington DC I. . Know I should have you been there for that where you were back in the day no I've Kinda bounced all over I've been in DC now for about a year and a half before that I was in <hes> San Diego and I back when you and I were talking, , I was probably still living in Chicago back then so I bounced around a little bit. . Think. You're . American. . Oh really. . Where did you think I was from? ? The French. . French awesome in. . All right. . Yeah thought you'd moved from somewhere to America? ? Now I'll take it man. . I'll lean into that. That's . great. . He's probably all that Jack Daniels or used to drink. . Fish. . Are you are you off project Daniels now hostility during but not not a lot but I don't J. Daniels and I remember back in the day there was some there was some. . Times at Avalon in Hollywood and stuff fly that it was. . Fun. . Miss some. . Signs a bit of a mess right now. . Yeah. . I mean here in America we've got kind of a perfect storm of the pandemic mixed with with trump, , which is its own nightmare and you know it's you're kind of seeing like the decline of the American Empire Right now so it's it's just a bunch of shit happening all at once you know people are becoming much more aware of like the racism in this country and it's all happening at the same time. . So it's with all of it on top of each other I mean, , how has it been in the UK what's the? ? What's the mood over there? ? I'll think. . Think paper a little depressed really because. . It's just so dragged on iron. . Eight. . So my slyke nothing's changing fast. . It's am I it's nor it's gay normal Iran, , and even when paper during these events allow vape lawyer that's rubbish in ice of a guide and it's sad because right now, , I can't see them letting clubs, , I've paypal sweats and all ivory. . Anytime say Moi worries for next year because if next year suffers hits a bit like these big companies that do all these big festivals, , they gonNA thing. . Let's do something else. . You no longer pay for going to hang around to make no money I'm hoping next year things Greenfield's of their line up for next summer Kazakh Wisconsin obviously this summer so that people are not like they are expecting to do things but The job is to think of the government don't care about. . They saw this Paul Life Really. . Yeah. . I mean I should cause always say it makes a lot neighbor hates obviously not their priorities it for young people to have fun. . Yeah.

"Are you out in Dallas as Iran, , Yemen The Dallas area technically in Richardson right now I go to school at the University of Texas at Dallas and Richardson, , and I met my apartment which is like right next to the school. . It's not technically an on campus apartment, , but it's like very heavily marketed towards UTD students, , right? ? Yeah. Yeah. . . What what's I mean? ? What's going to college allegra now? ? Are you? ? Guys are there in person classes like what is even happening? ? So UCD did a really interesting thing. . They made it where the professors could decide whether or not they wanted to do their classes in person or online, , and almost all of them opted to do online classes, , which makes sense because of like health stuff, , and so all of my classes I'm taking our online this semester it's Kinda weird 'cause like. . I never realized how much time that will spend inside if I'm not like forced to go outside and I even like being outside. . So strange that like I've spent so much time in my room and I'm like I need to be intentional about like getting out and doing things in not larum. . Yeah man I mean the the out from screens is very real, , right? ? Yeah. . I mean especially for what we do you already spending your free time in front of a screen. . Exactly. . Yeah, , and so getting outside I find that I think. . Way Better when I'm outside just walking around, , it's also a chance to kind of unplug because like it's less of like an is drained thing for me than it is just like being constantly connected and feeling like I'm always like my attention being drawn to something when I'm inside with my phone with my computer and stuff, , it's like I could be doing anything like even when I'm working on music I could be working on music I get a notification open it up I'm texting friends since I'm already on my phone I'm, , GonNa check twitter. . All my time has gone. . It's gotta be such a weird experience. . What Year in school are you? ? A senior kind of Weird L. explain a little bit behind that. . So this is my Fourth Year Utd, , but my first semester of this year and I'll be done after the semester. . Was I was ahead of my degree plan because I had taken like AP classes in high school and was kind of a head, , and so I was like I'm GonNa fill in an also got a pretty good scholarship and so I wanted to make full use of that As far as getting the whole four years worth <unk> to add a psychology minor to my degree plan as I did that last year and was taking a computer science, , major psychology, , minor classes, , and then this semester I signed up for fifteen hours of classes and I just saw the workload as soon as the first week of school started like this is not going to be fun if I have a music career that I have to keep up as well as. . and. . So I was like Kinda Weird, , I was talking to my girlfriend about it for a while I was like, , I, , have no idea what I'm going to do because like I wanted to take on the challenge of having that much work legs I would like for me to push myself learn how to balance things, , which is a skill that I feel like I need to grow in weren't to have later in life but I was like this just doesn't seem right I knew. . I felt like if I <hes> continued what I was going to be doing that semester with how many classes I was taking I just didn't feel passionate about lot of it. . Like I chose psychology minor because it was interesting to me, , it's something I like to look up in my free time but I had to sit back and be like do I really want to spend thirty hours a week on this? ? I. . I was just talking to a friend about how sometimes you know we all we all have our interests and like when I I'll give you an example when I was in high school I did a ton of theater like I just tons and tons of theater and so when I went to college, , I just sort of assumed I was like I like doing theater. . Of course, , I'll keep doing it in college and you know maybe this'll be a thing for me because I I was always pretty good at it in high school and it was always fun and then I got there and I saw the people who are really serious about theater. . Really. We're . going to go on to be the pros and you know immediately it's like, , Oh, , well, , obviously, , this is not for me. . I had that kind of realization when I was an insurer neuroscience class hours. . Yeah. . First Week and I was like, , yeah. . I like learning about the brain neurotransmitters and things like dopamine and how they affect award system and that kind of thing but I don't want to memorize all these terms. . So. . I dropped my psychology minor after the first week and at the time of that worked out perfectly. . The deadline to add new classes to my schedule was the Monday of the week after and I'd like just talked about this with my girlfriend and I went back home to my parents house. . That's not too far from you like twenty five minutes away. . I'M GONNA get my mom's opinion on this before I dislike drop it just to see what she thinks. . She was like yeah. . If it's something you don't feel passionate about go for it. . Cool and then as I was doing that process I realized that I only had just a couple CS classes left in May like major <hes>, , and so I was like if i. . Pull this off but I do is take all the psychology stuff off of my. . Semester semester because they don't have to fill that space up anymore, , I could just graduate after this one as I like, , put all the classes that I needed into this semester and then had to like catch up on the first week of stuff but that's not usually that bad. . But now on track to graduate after this semester. . Man Yeah.

I don't think I'll ever get used to it. . So see my name. . In with all all the people that you aspire to be as big as good as <hes> i. . certainly don't think I'll ever get used to it so. . Good though man I think if you ever do start to get used her, , that's maybe awarding side. . I think. . So I think so and I think that my my opinion on the always will I do genuinely believe it will stay. . The same as were the finish line right from the start and not just we do this for the logo passion. . So nothing should change on along the road rarely should shouldn't. . Yes. . No, , you're absolutely right I mean I think that's a great attitude to have from the outset of it. . I mean it's interesting hearing you talk about the the BBC <hes> weekend and all that because I think you know here in America that's like that's a reference. . I think a lot of Americans, , don't really have because we don't have an entity like BBC radio Y. Yeah Yeah especially for for what we do for dance music you know yeah and did you did you grow up listening to radio? ? One? ? Absolutely an Adams. . Things have happened this year like I was. . Really just locked into animal <hes> and eight. . Song. . I mean now, , Daddy Howard EMESA. . Jaren. . Everyone bought. . Impede Song you know he is a house music royalty isn't a you now the name goes back as far as you can kinda remember I've even got my cousin is easy. . Even sent me that just this week actually. . So all tape recordings of Pete Pete Tong sets I think from around ninety three, , ninety goal which I'm gonNA check our on a cassette player <hes> next week I'm GonNa never really saw dig insulin see see what we daily. . I mean, , I was two years old then. . <hes> bought you know certain things I add certain aspirations and dreams and goals when South is. . This journey and A site. . Initially, , it was just a guess on played by somewhere addy Michael and nine this year I've been Pete, , Songs Future Star and managed the anti nights always record in the world and and he's shooting of the week and. . I don't know you. . Now you're a producer and DJ cell. . He try and comprehend you kind of call. . It just doesn't sink any. . He's a great feeling. . Yeah. . It's really really strange when people you've kind of looked up to as almost like it's almost like they're not even human, , right? ? It's like these sort of icons and then when you sort of end up equalizing with them or getting in contact with them or even just them noticing what you're doing it is a really strange moment is is just said, no, , , you name and so of acknowledged aries and crazy feelin and then. . I feel like for you you're probably getting to the point now where people are starting to look at you that way have you had. . I wasn't gonNA say now you. . Hike. . Things happen now. . Certain things that they say that don't even realize the saying it makes you wounded what sort of experiences that may have had over people that are in your position because i. . What you so nice you. . Know why? ? Yeah. . Why would it be any different? ? You. .

"Time to slow down a little your. . Time now. . More, , than pursue it was it was much I. . It's still nice but I'm definitely. . At a point now where? ? Be going, , to bed. . At like. . I'm in like some. . Like nine thirty. . Every night I've only going to bed. . So early every night so very well rested the first time in a long time. . So now I'm like h Tina. . Traveling, , place I'm I'm ready but. . All the time. . Yeah. . Yeah. . Absolutely. . Man I mean maybe as a way to get into it, , I wanted to ask you about this because you're one of the few people I've talked to WHO's actually had this experience you did at least one of those drive in shows, , right? ? Yeah I did one in. . It's not technically Charlotte but it's called the fountain. . Outside a Shar like. . Forty five minutes as a shirt. . That I mean walk me through that experience because I'm I'm so curious what it actually felt like to play one of those shows, , right? ? Well, , you know it's interesting because. . I feel like. . Every. . Time. . They're still I guess every week or so. . The climate surrounding. . Coronavirus or country or if you wanna Mike. . Rugged down to what we do in music. . History. . Shows and safety every week or every couple of waste seems like there's a different. . Tone to. . The overall consensus of. . Or what's not or what's what's what's considered okay, , and what's not considered okay. . So at the time of Accepting the drive in at the very beginning of the pandemic but that's Close closer to beginnings. . He's ideas started coming on board around and I was like well only if it's safe and. . assured was assured it was going to be running with all the precautions. . needed. . Sauza guy let's do it <hes>. . At least could say I did warn in my lifetime looking back on this and. . The entire experience break down it was so. . So. . Interesting. . But it was also really great on the road team. . Have that one little sense of normalcy for the back with that family right? ? Because that's family were disconnected from right now. . Yeah. . Dude I. . I feel like normally I spend majority of my year with these guys in the it's the first time I've seen him since probably February which was pretty wild. . You're the show was <hes>. . It was it was interesting was very I know there's been a lot of mixture of us in a lot of controversy and a lot of different viewpoints on the drive in but my experience I can only speak it test mice during read. . The people that were vice show of. . It was. . It was extremely safe <hes> I got there and <hes>. . Obviously it's. . It's a it's an interesting way out stage is not normal stage, , but you look out there near. . Plot of land. . It's massive view. . It's actually in a beautiful area north. . Carolina was palm land in your ads they will drive in the middle of nowhere. . You know when he started when we got there for the show <hes>. . We had a little green room of whatever you WANNA, , call it like the bandages office. . Entire thing I'm looking at this? ? This is insane like hundreds and hundreds of cars, , but all all within their confined space. . And I was like nervous. . We'll see our kids gonNA like. . Kids. . Tend to break rules Orlean at our bend the rules. . Like a follow them until they get into an arcade <unk>, , screw, , we're going to go your own thing. . What I notice was everyone was actually like. . Inner areas tailgating in their own area so We weren't like. . Johnny not allowed to drive a students staged way to walk to the stage, , which is totally GUAC panacea at all but I walk through these cars everyone like in their own spot hanging out with a small group of people everyone had their masks which I was nervous as. . I. . Don't want to be one of those things where. . Everyone's in their mask and everyone's raging I'm like, , please please please everyone is saw. . A FROM MY CO engine stage wearing their masks <unk> surprisingly a lot of people were. . Staying in their cars with all the tour shut listening to the music raging. . That's interesting. . That's kind of why were they was it on like a like an FM. . Station people to so this was this was this was one of those ones amodio station June into classic drive in situation and A. . was kind of interesting about the layout was we had a stage in its smaller stage. . It wasn't a big festival Susan that. . Was Cool. . Is Right next to the right of. . The movie was the wall movie projector. . Only thing is like hundred tall was thing is. . The biggest movie screen of. . The had alive live streaming camera angle couple of angles of the media Jank from booth cameras hooked up there were projecting like live casting off the big screen and they had that makes in with I brought my vj. . So he was able to to <hes> display my content. . On this really cool large movie screen mixed into my live cam feed and. . It was really cool. . It was like I've never seen anything like that for a show like scream out large. . That pretty interesting show itself. . <hes> it's it's weird because we had my own borders. . So they were like festivals don't monitor so loud for me on like a normal joe for me, ,

"Is this your studio in Detroit is this like a complex you live in? ? Do you have a separate studio? ? Built a a built room in the backyard. . So onto the back of the house, , I had the guy who <hes> whose company who originally designed Electric Lady Land Studio else I'll add <hes> his firm did the did the <hes> design? ? Architecture so they did the whole. . The whole space. . So it's almost like another building mess right on the back of the House so We, , we call it an extension, , but as you know, , it would be like A. . Size of of maybe a small party store or something you know candy shop if it was in the building by itself nearby, right? , ? Yeah one it's I think it's good to have a separate space mentally. . Just do something that doesn't feel like you're working out of your house just a separate. . You know that work life balance yes. . Go is good for me because. . I had a building. . <hes> kind of a kind of a not you allowed like a big Detroit building, , but it was you know a spacious building on its own. . and. . Not, , definitely. . Not In walking distance from from either where I was living when I when I got it or where where we live now. . But. . In in the sense of of <hes>, , you know a bigger city like New York <hes>. . It will probably take about forty minutes to get there. . But in Detroit time, , it takes about fifteen herreid. . So so relatively close in comparison to. . Other cities stuff and. . That one was like. . It was like running a boat. . Because you can be in one side of the building and it's raining and you don't even know that is coming through the other side of building and we had that on on many occasions where it would just you know it would just pour through. . We had damaged records. . We had <hes> kinds of things and and <hes> you know the the the Detroit. . I think is always to you know own a big building because. . The cheap in Detroit rather still chee even though the <hes> the cost of them went up there still still very cheap. . and. . You get into owning a building has five floors. . Floors and you can't even use a quarter of it. . But you know you have this big as building. . So it's like <hes> you know buying a Rolls, , Royce? ? And maintain it right exactly, , and then having to maintain it. . You know. So . you're. . You're <hes> rolling around town in this big ass. . Rolls Royce is not really necessary good roll around in a you know a a a s quarter. . Something smaller. . Yeah. . I mean it's interesting that we're talking about spaces and creative spaces. . Because I was actually just reading that your <hes>, , your art installation just reopened now in New York and I was reading up about you know the space that that's in for the people who don't know united in. . A converted Warehouse Space and Yeah I was just thinking about like. . repurposing spaces in how how reuse spaces and how that's tied into your music and Techno Music in general I think techno is a lot about Rican text to allies, ing , sounds and spaces, , and maybe just to start off or anybody who doesn't know what is the party after Party installation exhibit that you did. . A project. . which is a beacon which is. . CONSIDERED UPSTATE NEW YORK In some way but I think it's called Hudson. Valley . is is what it sounds so so <hes>, , they have this big. . <hes> former box factory, , and I think they used to make boxes of packaging Nabisco or or something like that so you know it's it's A. . Really a gigantic again space. . <hes> with multiple. . Rooms. . My favorite room is <hes> the Warhol Room that's got a a beautiful. . <hes>. . A series one series of Warhol, , goes all the way around the whole room though <hes> world ms probably five thousand square feet or maybe even more you know so. . My piece is not directly below it but. . <hes> but below it in in what's considered a basement and they usually have like Dan Flavin pieces down there light the light installations from Dan Flavin and in another part of of the basement, , there is a big flavin wall this that's down there and glows neon. . And <hes>. . My Room is A. . Mighty. . Twenty thousand. . Square feet maybe and a lot of columns. . And <hes> a lot of windows and <hes> when I first saw of course there were all these these ideas that that will come into mind you know it definitely is going to you know rave back in the nineties

"We can Kinda just hop into it and I wanted to. . Yeah I WANNA talk about the new album all of that. . But you know talking about sort of staying close to home and being I think it's rare for somebody who does what you do to to not be in L.. . A.. . Or to not be in New York and <hes> it's just interesting. . Do you do you find you know working on music? ? Does the place you are? ? Does that affect your thought process you're writing process? ? Does it affect your output? ? It's such a terrific question. . So I think that where we live in, , it's one of those funny things i. . full disclosure I was raised by a psychiatrist so. . My mom is a brilliant doctor, , and so I use a lot of what's called I think in. . Seki I trick vernacular psycho babble would say official term. . Fair warning <hes> but I do think there's an interesting. . It's an interesting thought threatened insofar as. . You know it's one of those things that people say, , Oh, , it's not where you are what kind of your internal locus, , what's going on inside you and of course, , there's there's truth in that but it's sort of a a both hand I think in that it really does affect especially for. . That are are artists and our job is to kind of absorb our environment and sort of. . Purge that through whatever are medium artistic medium is and so I think it does have a pretty profound impact on you where you live if you're artistically inclined and so interestingly, , we we split our time between the Eastern and the West Coast we have a place in <hes> in l. a., , and then we have a place. . Here On the East Coast as well too, , and so because I do a lot of film stuff I'm probably there about a week month, , and so we've got a lot of close friends and I mean close to. . Family they're actually in Los Angeles as well too and so. . I miss it when we're when we're not there and I lived full-time in Los Angeles for ten twelve years and. . I started to get. . I didn't like living there full-time if I'm being totally honest about it. . It's really really difficult place to live. . A lot of people you know you put in your time you're there for you know sort of crucial number of years, , and then a lot of people end up getting out again man you're you're you're absolutely right about that I. Mean . I can't even tell you how right you are about that I have so many friends that have done their time there they kind of establish their career in a way that they're happy and proud of in his sustainable and then they're like on thanks but no thanks with all the you know home robberies and traffic and no. . Thank you. . You know so. . It's A. . It's a tough place loon especially with what's going on now. . Is like a safety issue in Los Angeles and P something did he pulled don't like talking about but in everywhere in Los Angeles there it's it's. . Safety issues honestly I mean most major cities man yet. . So it's a little hairy. . I mean even for me living in the heart of DC in DC by the numbers is not as bad as a lot of places but. . It feels a bit weird to be so close to so many people right now. . Yeah absolutely. . I. . Totally. Hear . you. . I really do so. . So you know and I love I love California I. . Love I. . Love being there but I did my I did my full time time there and so. . It's it's really nice if we live in a place that is just very peaceful in us I, , mean we're so thankful during this time in particular the you know <hes> our family were able to just walk outside in our neighbors have cows and horses and stuff, , and so <hes>. . That's great. . You know we get our eggs from an amish farm. . You know a couple miles from here in our vegetables and fruits from. . Local co OPS. . Man Yeah. . Great, , did

"And like, and then the hip hop community was kind of trying to take a hold of it too. So we played this festival in outside of DC. Right. What was the name of it? Was that true electro? Yes. It was early right? Which was which is such a cool concept. It was probably one of the only few hip hop EDM and shout out to electro shout to DC to BC and all those like because I ended up hanging with those guys for years afterwards and electoral became a big thing for years. They've moved on to do other events. They're all doing big shit. But yeah, that was a very forward thinking was and they would they would combine. Yeah. An with a hip hop act and things like that. But in this case, the combined me with with Dougie fresh. Rush who was opening for us and emceeing the whole fan. Yeah. I mean, we came in kinda toward them. Maybe he was doing it the whole time. But he definitely did his performance right before us. It was supposed to be like a ten fifteen minute performance is supposed to do like, I don't even know beat box and like bebop over like Mona Lisa slick, Rick or something he did. He did this little quick set. But he was opposed to introduce us. But he didn't know how to say our name. He didn't know who we were. And so he's trying to remember it you could feel like he was really struggling to like intro, and he was kind of like it's almost like a comedian like you're sort of buying tie. And he starts like he had his DJ run the beat back like six different times on like. Yeah. Like some slick Rick instrumental and he's starting to shout his restaurant in New York. And he's like you like chanted. He like had the crowd like do a call and response Chan of the phone numbers address. He's like he's like thirty five thirty seventeen seventeen Wes west magnolia boulevard. Even. We're not making this realist. And so he's just like eating up into our set. So the now are getting shorter and shorter and shorter. And like, it's pushing the curfew back. Everything's getting all weird. He's like eating this time. Finally, someone says to I don't know what somehow he ended, but you could just tell you milking it and trying to figure out how to interest and finally he did. And we get on and curfew is probably like ten minutes into our set or something like that. So we're super bass heavy ADM AC so the first few songs are just getting lit the basis going. It's going crazy and then curfew hits like midnight, and they just cut off all the subs. And so just the sun. Just the suds. So there's no base for the last whatever forty five minutes. And so it just was like it went from lit to shit, and like no time, and what you know, what this is. Actually, I think this is the perfect note to end it on because even though the subs were gone. I still remember the crowd didn't stop going through. It's like that moment when the lights come on the club. And nobody wants to leave you like the crowd just kept going crazy because it was putting nation. It was like your people, you know. So it almost didn't even matter. And I do remember that feeling really special to and I think that's something you've been able to carry like from that stupid moment. All the way through like, that's that's the vibe. I always associate you with man. And I think that's why I'm stoked you're still here doing it, man. Thank you, man. Yeah. Yeah. And I'm going to continue to try to do this, man. I love I love what I do. So I'm going to keep doing this until I can't anymore under percent. And well, there's been great. I think we're done. Yeah. Yeah. Shadow Surata Joe shots for real. I have done a lot of them at this point with a lot of your favorite artists. Some amazing conversations that I just really want. Everybody to hear one of the early ones that comes to mind is talking to Paul Devo. Who's the creative director over at mad decent? I've known Paul for years that was that episode was so fun, man. We sat in this tiny little cramped room in the back of the mad decent office. It was so hot that. We took our search off at a certain point Paul's brain works like nobody else's definitely go. Check out the Paul Devereaux episode. Once you're done here. This new thing I'm doing recommending these older episodes. I think I'm gonna keep doing it. You know, even just reminds me some of the fun times I've had in the past. And I really think it is well worth your time to SCR. Bag a little bit. And just see who else is bouncing around in there. I'm updating every single week is kind of a companion piece to this podcast with new music from the guests. I talked to music for myself. You know, stuff that we bring up in these conversations. "And speaking of men, I mean, we're getting into this almost episode ninety. I think if it's not already there's a lot of good episodes out there that have already aired over the last year and a half. If you're a new listener if you came in only halfway through I highly recommend going back through go through some of the old episodes scroll back in the feed. I guarantee that I've talked to some artists that you know, and love right now, I'm thinking about a couple of different episodes one I recorded with twelve planet man that was like a roller coaster ride that dude is a force of nature a legend in the dub step game. The things he's seen the stories in that episode. Definitely go check that one out. That's episode number thirty three and ten after that episode forty three I recorded with nightmare. That was great too, man. It was so good to connect with him. He's a guy don't get to see much. We had a lot to talk about you know, he's had such a big success in the last couple of years, and I felt like in that conversation. He got to really stretch out and speak his mind. And I felt like maybe he just didn't get a lot of opportunities to do that reasonably we got kind of deep. It was a good one, man. So go check both of those out a bunch of other great episodes back in the feed. And once you're done with that, you can also go. Check out the back to bangers Spotify playlist if you're on Spotify. I do a playlist every single week as kind of a companion piece to this show. I updated with new music from my guests for myself. I try to throw in some music that we mentioned on the show, you know, stuff that comes up in conversation and just other related songs. Other new music. "Hit me up on all social media at Willie joy or at back to back pod. Some of your questions your comments your concerns? Let me know what you're up to how you doing send me some new music, and I love talking to everybody out there. So for this conversation with ghastly. Like, I said the beginning we've been trying to set this up for forever. And finally, we both had a little time off right before the new year. I went over to his place in LA. I was stoked for that. I'd actually never been over to his place before and if you know anything about ghastly, you might know that he's pretty well known for owning some big snakes. Owning some weird reptiles. I went over found a giant snake in his bathroom fed a worm to his Geico you'll hear me kind of joking about it at the start. And we were just off to the races man face from the time. I hit record even before I hit record. We were laughing joking easy conversation all over the map. He's such an entertaining guy. And he just has the craziest story from growing up on a farm being homeless living out of a van for a while sort of burning out of the music industry has first time around making a second attempt. Coming back, strong and building on everything he learned into the ghastly project, as we know it now, it's an impressive story through it. All he's kind of been able to maintain this super positive attitude, and you'll hear me asking him all about that. I'm always curious about how his brain works. And after this. I think you'll have a better idea of how it works too. I mean from super super serious to, you know, just really ridiculous. Yeah. This was a fun one. And like I said before ghastly just dropped a new track with G Rex called heretic. It's off of an upcoming EP that he's putting together the link to where you can go get all of his tour dates all of his music, all of that is in the description of this episode last thing before I start this conversation off if you get to the end of this episode, and you like what you heard if you're enjoying this show. I get asked the question a lot. How can I support this? How can I help out? And I'm here to let you know, the best way you can support this show is. Just by telling a friend about back to back. We're community based show. I don't really pay for advertising. So the way this show grows is really word of mouth and every time we do grow. That means we get more resources to make the show better for all of you. We can get better guests bigger names everybody you wanna hear from. So if you want to support me just Tele friend that, you know, loves music about this show or you could put up a post about us. Let people know you're enjoying the show. You re tweet something that I put up whatever you wanna do. It does all help. I do see everyone's post. It makes me super stoked super excited to start working on the next week's episode. I'm always thankful for the support out there. So with that being said, it's time to get into today's episode. I hope everybody's ready. This one is a wild ride. And if you wanna talk about somebody who's just on fire somebody who just can't do anything wrong right now. You gotta look at Valentino. He's one of my favorite producers in the game. And I think at the time when he came on this show. It was really the first time he had gotten to open up about his whole career. Just the way he thinks about music. We both really enjoyed it. I still get people talking to me about. About it to this day. Definitely go check that one out and find some of your other favorites in there as well. It's well worth your time in that spirit.
