"During the pandemic where Andrew Cuomo became this like hero My wife and I were like pretty cynical about politicians and I remember her being like I just saw him on TV and he was just it was great And I was like are you serious This guy just likes to hear himself talk You know you say that and there's a line The next line says that Yeah This is something turn it up and you know so that that song was about this article that I read that was like four people die in hotel after being discharged from the hospital And I was just trying to picture this guy in the hotel room Watching TV and being so angry about these little hard politicians talking on TV like there's some great heroes you know Yeah We had talked about relationships and things like that I want to talk about your song I don't want our love to become routine I know you got a busy work schedule Sometimes you want to play but I get to kiss the bed and I swear to keep the hands clean but I don't want nothing to do with you A lot of people who have been in long-term relationships may be able to relate to those sentiments What made you want to write this song So that song actually started off as this idea of what happens in the bridge of the song where it says I don't want you to ever stop speaking your mind to me I don't ever want you to stop telling me when I'm being a jerk You know because then we're just going through the motions here We're just like co parenting for whatever Speaking of time But yeah and then that was that song was kind of I was trying to make like a kind of a country song You know something that's very direct Something that could picture Willie Nelson singing much better than me A lot of the.

"And he said, you know, you are no different in person than you are when you're on the microphone. And for me, that is like the best thing I ever want to hear as a podcaster. And I worry some time when I hear people get on the mic and look, I want you to be excited. I mean, I'm not always talking like this all the time, but I do hear people get into puke voice and they, hey, what's going on? All of a sudden you either sound like a sports announcer or you're that cracky weird weather man that I don't know what's going on. And that's not really how you are. You know who's really good at being you? You yeah, you know who's really bad at being you everybody else. And I realize that due to the way we were raised, many of us are going, look, the last person I want to be is me. I get that. I really totally get that. But I'm here to tell you that if you embrace who you are, being you comes to you naturally. But it resonates. It just, it just flows from you. And it's easy and consequently it's genuine. It's authentic and people can smell a phony a mile away. Right? I mean, I believe that. So I was kind of sniffing around the Internet, good old uncle Google. And I found two people that started one completely different direction. One is Willie Nelson. Willie Nelson, and I'll put links out in the show notes used to be completely clean shaven. He looked like an old baptist minister in a suit and his hair is all back and it's barely down to his collar. And he was actually really successful back then. He wrote a song crazy. Really was a really successful songwriter, not so much a song performer, although he did have some success, but he was really in the early days. I think a bit more for being a songwriter. And to make a long story short the late April 1972, which is back in the day, RCA, his record label requested that Nelson renew his contract ahead of schedule with the implication that RCA, they're not going to release your latest recordings if you didn't. Can you feel the.

Singing and playing and writing songs. And i've told all of them said you know this house you grew up in my success. It doesn't always happen that way. You know it's very very fortunate. I always in the right place at the right time with the right song and i can name you a bunch of really good songwriters who work twice as hard as your dad does and make you know less than half the money. They all have careers. If you're willing to work hard enough at it you can have a career in this business. It just depends on what kind it's gonna be and that's something i've thought about that. I wanted to ask you. How do you define artistic success. In the days of american idol and the competitiveness in the music industry and the ever insecure ness of the business of any of the arts. Because maybe your public is in your future after you die kind of like van gogh or you know eva cassidy. What do you call artistic success. I think you have to have to be about the work. Yeah me too about the work. It has to be about the songs you've written it has to be about the way that you communicate vocally and that's just as important really willie nelson always did other songs. "About my own peculiar way, it's nice to know about Willie Nelson. It was disastrous in 1960s. Virgin white was a conductor in the ranger. This became really his first video album, which he uses new classical guitar called Martin and 20 19 trigger most songs now since your album via William Nelson recent 1970. Was he daughter the new decade, Nelson had not achieved any commercial success at RCA that he'd hoped for? He gained a measure of fame writing songs over here for very young, hello walls. Billy walker fronting tall Thompson this way. And Patsy clawing crazy and worrying or pretty paper. But most of us thought on the charts has been a single RCM being the biggest solid cover bringing sunshine which hit number 13 has producer arce had shed Atkins touch hard. There's purchased from a law of LP to the toxic constant fellow. What's the search remain elusive after the underwhelming performance of the album? Particular way of your past support over 1969, such as began from both sides now after that album comes laying my burdens down as 11 city all by only Nelson. We're leasing autumn of 1970. Blame our bird and someone was second RCA released in 1970 and 14 years, but the film we remain unchanged is producer shut akins and Fulton drivers continue upon international formula to Nelson's recordings. Watching instance singers better judgment those albums, birds and Willie Nelson and family were similar stories. Any kind of studio players could cover songs interesting complex and lousy cells. All musician workers agrees there are some nice things on here, but too many are buried under nostrils. And those seem to be able to stand on their own. Despite paltry cells, notes remain those RCA heads later stating, even though his vision, if I were different, I couldn't get mad at the man who believed so deeply my talent. Especially when I happened to be one of the best guitar players in the world. Yesterday is one is the 13th studio album. Also, I saw them on our list. It's a concept of Alibaba country singer Willie Nelson. No stopping recording for RCA Victor since the early 1960s. And I had no significant hits. But I was recording hemorrhage mid charge positions. Those awesome money from his songwriting world to his body financial and successful concert tours. Large nearly unprofitable in addition to problems with his music career, Nelson had promised his personal life. He had divorced his volatility and colleague in his Tennessee ranch. I've been destroyed by fire. After moving to new home in May nearer Texas, no someone's called by RCA, producer fault and Jarvis about the upcoming scheduled recording sessions at the time also not running any new material. He returned to dashboard where he wrote songs to use with his others for these new concepts, songs were recorded at the RCA studio national just two days. Consider one of the first concepts of all the country music yesterday is one is the story of imperfect man from the moment his words the day of his death arts the originally released, you see those yesterday's wine and me and Paul, the former pizza number 62 in billboard's heart country singles, the album felt to reach charge frustrated Nelson decided to temporary retire from under a contract to RCA Records layer his musical virtualized returns to music in 1973. The next time that we have one of those in the words don't fit the pictures of 14 studio album. Our country is one of the awesome part 1979 14 albums for RCA. Was not much to show for it. RCA has cycled to the formula with and don't seem to be able to stand on their own. Despite their paltry sells, those remain loads RCA, headaches later stating, even though his vision, if I were different, I can get by the man he believes to be playing about tonight. Especially when the man has been one of the best guitarists in the world. Thanks so this is William Nelson family, which is a 12th studio album country single one of the Nelson. Although Nelson continued to be frustrated with the question of poor sales of his albums at RCA, his live show continued to develop in the early 70s and he started acquiring the core members of his band. Bees spears on baseball English on drums and making Rafael and harmonica. And his sister Bobby on the piano of which he refers to his family. Those linear records, first playing with Raphael, immune to see how his usual occasional sit in, he can become part of the family a loose charm that means this is Robert's been as a warmer word that suggests genuine care and love. Those who had also discovered his bargain 20 cost of guitar known as trigger was part of the contributed to evolving ourselves by his almost he remained burdened saying national street documentary lost highway the singer explained I had a freaking following on the road, probably I was doing coming out in the record. And I'll follow you if we were to guard into this video with Ben. I did what we've been doing every night. We would have been better, had a better chance. Those who would get his opportunity to record with his band in 1933, when he recorded the LP chocolate only in New York's Atlantic studios with Gary walker, but will also fall the same production blueprint as his research RCA album. Nice way of yesterday is why she was 13 to the album and the Willie Nelson. No stop being recording for RCS early not his decision to have those hits. Financial Sony is recording to enrichment chart of course positions. Does the lost money from his song running world choose by VNA fee unsuccessful concert tours that were generally unprofitable that this problem had caused his personal life? He divorced his bars through the colony and as soon as he had been determined by a fire, affluence a new home had made their choices harbor our safe British public about the upcoming central recording sessions. At the time, most of the government returned now to where we were at new songs to use other. Sounds were recorded at RCC and national industrial days. Consider one of the first albums in country music. Yesterday is one is the story of an imperfect man for the moment. And i think that gets to kinda dichotomy of this era is that you have artists like willie waylon who are crossing over. While being more trudeau hardcore honky tonk spirit than nashville had allowed anybody to be in a long time. When you had people like bandy and and johnny paycheck early days that were kind of underground that were doing that stuff but nobody. That big was annette hardcore. And then he'd got emmylou harris whose crossing over kind of in the other direction. But being accepted by nashville. It's funny 'cause you know. Wayland is still frequently regularly. Dissed by the country music establishment. I mean if you look in the hall of fame. Awards seem presentations. They're still holding grudges against wave and willie they. It seems like they just gave out Surrendered everybody loves willy. You know but then you've got dolly parton. Who makes this clear. Break with nashville. She goes to l. a. Hollywood does nine to five which is a massive hit movie which was a huge cultural milestone. And she has this. Massive pop hit with nine to five also went to the top of the country charts but it was a pop song and shudder shudder being fielded at studio fifty four so she just by being dolly was able to cross over and still maintain the loyalty and love of country audience in a way that like kenny rogers in the same period. "That was emmylou harris's version sweet sweetjames which was sweet at the cash box. What's number one. If i remember correctly. And yes she. She's bringing the california energy and functioning out of california los angeles music industry. She's not a creature nashville. Never had to deal with the whole National system which dolly parton was a prisoners. A strong word but she was a creature of the national system and was definitely under the thumb of puerto wagner which is a double edged sword because he produced an incredible body of work on dolly. Like the thing about dolly parton. When i was growing up was you couldn't find any of her early albums. Everything in the record store was post. Seventy eight post crossover those albums she did go to you. Cover getting era. Yeah yeah and i mean. They had the great greatest hits from her early stuff. But it wasn't a couple of streaming era when you could suddenly get her whole your hands on her whole catalog relatively painlessly that you realize. Wow this is incredible book of stone. Classic country work but her solo album xanadu at album. She did with puerto wagner. I'm not saying every one of them is you know Red headed stranger level. But i'm saying it is solid every otms going to have a song or two that you've never heard before that is just pure gold and and a few hoots and holler you know and and i thought they did a pretty good job. Tell the story of how dolly broke away with puerto wagner by right in the song i will always love you. Which of course goes onto a big hit for her. And they covered by whitney houston Total american pop classics. So i felt like they did a good job with both emmy lou and dolly. Let's get to the next coupling that they go to the and so then the next coupling is obviously the outlaws. They they talk about. What james nelson willy. They've been covering. And i don't mention the manager willie nelson and waylon Common blanket the name but they would be arrested. "So any mccarthy. Welcome to the hugh hewitt show pleasure to have you here. Let's talk some cuomo. I how are you doing this morning. I'm doing great markham. Delighted to hear willie nelson but not stone. So exactly right. it's a well. Listen you've got to call them now on cuomo. And you describe the attrition. James report as a thorough going disaster for cuomo. Will he survive. I don't think so mark. And i you know. I'm really surprised if i had said that Six months ago. I think i would've Had to check myself in for analysis but Just like you feel you have to bring a little texas to To the nation. I think i need to bring a little new york to the nation because we're used to looking at everything through the prism of republican democrat politics and the dynamic in new york is very different. The you know. The republican party as an institution is negligible here and the politics are all this divide between the woke left and what passes for the democratic establishment and the woke left wants cuomo out. They've wanted him out for a long time. And that dynamic is very interesting in the way politics gets reported because the media is when we're looking at national issues. The media's one hundred percent that seems with the democrats when it's the woke left versus the establishment democrats. It's very different And they're very divided so cuomo doesn't have it. It looks to me like the you know. The president saw the limb out from behind him yesterday. And the interesting weathervane. Here is carl casey. Who was the head of the new york state assembly a cuomo ally and has been protecting him on all this impeachment stuff. They've had this meandering investigation for months. He did a one eighty yesterday in basically said cuomo was unfit. Needs to go seems to be if that's where he's coming from. That's bad bad. News for cuomo.

"Mick jagger's singing waylon jennings famous and tossed bob world is still the king. I mean that was some moment. I think as an austin i'd say saying the rolling stones come to town and cover one of our favorite songs that that to me was kinda apex of austin as the mass media happening Yeah the the thing is is to do Bob wills song sounds have always had a soft place in the heart for country. Easy and i think of far away is or a Wild horses could grabbed me way and that's always been forever this so for them to do cloud that song. No one would have expected. And i'll be honest with you. Probably i'd say get check. The crowd d. had no idea That that was the wayland saw much. Bob wills if it was true but maybe they went home and google there. Maybe even googled it on their phones right there that icl but he had acl blow up but also you still had some acts coming out of the austin scene in the nineties and two thousands that made the mark. I'm thinking in particular of ball and spin. Yeah there was an old night. I'm i'm gonna call you. You're gonna have to do some attitude here. But i need to point out. It's the rolling stones not play. They played tzilker park rolling. Stones did not play a field. This all right can i. Can i can so. What that correction and the nineties and enter the there was a whole nother way of rock music. Kind of popped up out of austin. And i think holly most famously is demand spin who i love the fact that brit daniel jimmy no From spin both came out technology Brigada worked at motorola. I'm trying to remember where Jimmy works but you know. These guys came to austin Because of the technology but there are music cats and so they use technology is kind of their. You know the pay the bills so they can start this ban spin. It became probably the most iconic austin rock band the nineties into the into the twenty teams The most Another band s ball was the came. You know establish some kind of notoriety mainland because they had a hit single and it was a great single called the way which was based on a newspaper clipping about a couple that had alzheimer's and were lost In they couldn't find a way home and he took that in basically toured the world with i mean and a couple of other singles that were mildly successful. They're out and sales. were never fastball. Did have you know punch through with with some pop. Hits much side Shawn colvin. Did jon call and had pop hits that were you know charged singles and never been much of a singles tents even going back to the eighties and seventies is probably one of the most successful x out of austin cover band. That played you know. Covers popular song. called christopher cross and you know had a big huge hit with sailing and riot ride like the wind that had glue austin it was. It was a bunch of technical musicians that put together a pop song And basically made a big out in la do not informed by austin's seen or at the core of the music can be other than the fact that they christopher cross small spoon all how chops in the clubs. That's where they learn how to play and also does it might take a little retroactive credit for the yacht rat yacht rock shine. That's a come to crew to christopher cross. In retrospect although at the time he was an absolute critical pariah. Well you know chris. Christie gifford is actually a pretty nice guy but yeah you know when you're just saying this is the one of the headstone of revival yacht. Rock all i can say nest said this is like you know. Emai- top biesecker people that wear top siders just off. I mean not to say people have sailboats. Do things like that. But that's so do joie. And so now i'm routes rocky and nothing to do an american abuse and in a way you can make. That argument. fastball. Came out of the clubs. And we're kind of like a residual Banned from new sincerity movement and spoon to me. Were completely you know. They were more original but it's also important to note that as soon blows up their lead singer daniel lease often and he's most of the past twenty years import. I don't know what you say. The other off to jimmy. You know is a great producer. Pretty a lot of austin next Is at austin. I don't know. I get argument with Michael corcoran visa credit tuesday. Big champion of spoon about that and you know to me. The significance is more like you know as far as local is an That ended with the butthole surfers but it persists today with bands like shiny ribs to me is like so totally. Austin kind of is a continual sir douglas legacy You've got all kinds of you. Know the director country and roots music that at the wide wars and the bands. That have come out of there have been significant. The scoot in which was a totally crashed out. You know it was a wine drunks follow down. Joint back in the seventies were digi. Borough and maggie. Lee played country music in front of black five. You know day drinkers dow skewed in. And and now it's shiny club with touring acts. Go figure. I don't know but all all i know is the scene has managed to persist. It's still here. I think it's it's it's it's now i mean we're coming of age and inclination in history. I love the fact that he joint sands town point. Which is in an old house in kind of a suburban neighborhood and far south austin and it's gotten same bind so quick saluted the nineteen when you walk in and you feel like you're part of a club and you've got you know ramsay midwood. We owner is great. You know singer songwriter. Very wiler assist you. Know he has all kinds of cool vanden. Jessie j who's cajun accordion. This eat hanging around there with with. There's another cajun. According to austin charles right kipah does from from beaumont down south east texas. He's band plays some of those authentic cajun music. You're you're anywhere including in lafayette. New iberia opposites louisiana and he happens to live in austin austin today. Robert plant moving here for a few years because he's dating patty griffin their living together. And it's you know it's a kind of town he can live in I'm thinking of a.

Sitting up there in borger texas seeing somebody not only plan authentic blues replan hendrix style rock and roll about in seventh grade at the time. And you know just discovering the doors and jimi hendrix sixties rock and and was the real thing and totally just blew away and by the time i give a year. Yeah can you hear me tony. Yeah now does night. You're right the but that was actually kind of liability in the seventies with cantons now bluefin. Ub out black. And you get and steamy young jimmy. His older brother was his master of economy. It was like the space between the notes and he played very even a minimal of almost darts his younger brothers every time he got a chance to play. Wanted show you everything he needs. And a lot of confidence that include the hendrickson he could do hendrix. Better than robin for our. You know Frank marino both of which racks with play the armadillo open and just mark away but among the blues towns you know it was like oh that rift shifts so it really just getting out of austin. He really appreciated for all his talents and his troops no one by hendrix with same kind of passion and proceeded as we did And no one has since and no one is played elected taller with the power and passion. That stevie did since i mean he's kind of the last of the greek There have been made following. Switch tips you know. No one got that direct cranston issue. And and i think that's it shows now. Of course you know the elder this weird is we've all become kind of if you live long enough to become your story and then you turn into history. It's coming for everybody. Nick to wrap up our first hour here and i hope to get you back on to talk about the birth year austin chronicle south by southwest and the on into the nineties. Acl festival my whole thing. Where it is today joe. Nick thanks so much for coming on. And that's it for this half of let it roll. Welcome back we're continuing our conversation with Petoskey about his book austin to eighty x the hippies pickers slackers geeks who transformed the capital of texas genetic. Welcome back thanks. Grammy back nate. It's a pleasure and we left off. We were talking about The rise of of clifford antone blues empire and the and the blue survival. That happened in austin with stevie ray vaughan and his brother a jimmy and his band the fabulous thunderbirds. But something else that was going around on around the same time was the end of the armadillo world headquarters. Yup the armadillo world headquarters closing new year's eve. Nine thousand nine hundred eighty one out of the end of of a fantastic decade musically. Speaking austin became this you know a music capital and their every music pride that there is was represented in austin by nineteen eighty and the armadillo which had been struggling since the very beginning was actually making money they re returning profit and really the breadth of music they were bringing in. You know my first exposure to the ramones. So the clashed elvis costello To so many talking heads so many different bands and then you know mainstream bands and then the weird stuff that they did like roy. Buchanan the guitar Virtuoso or carrying old and new dreams. The band played with The revolutionary jazz can't orange called the all eastern. Grab it armadillos. Every music cried in austin food. Go see a touring act. The kind of music they liked the armadillo feature so it's demise was very disappointing that the people running it and got it their acts together. Unfortunately real estate and become such an animal was grading such instant wealth people flipping land Doing deals where they just like. You know karma piece of property over in thirty days well. The owner of the land of the mta decided to pull the plug. And so i'm more opportunity erecting Twelve story office tower were the armadillo was unfortunately that led to big hole. Culturally in austin because the dell was is this cultural center. It was a gathering point. It was a community center. And not just for austin for them to southwest. If you are different you make your your pilgrimage. The armadillo such demise was very disappointing. That agit closed There were all these things going on. It wasn't just the blue scene. There was a very healthy. Seeing that started while rules that worked over into new wave music that was featured at cochin the original bokan gas company downtown. It clubbed foot downtown so it was really good. The scene Win the yellow closed was more diverse and more buried they never before. But it lost its touchdown and one thing i think is important. Point out about the middle that was lost. Was i remember when the clash played. Joe ely opened up for the clash and that sort of was the beginning of a pretty public. Love affair between the clash in the end. The austin I don't exactly know how to describe. What saint joe ely would be. Sort of a new wave friendly country movement. Coming out of lubbock would be the closest thing. I could describe the by that joe ely had gone on in nineteen eighty but i know that was a big boost for joe elise credibility not as in texas but nationally and internationally as well. Joe joe's the ban that started in lubbock with lloyd maine's jesse tyler. Ponty bone All those good players Was a country dance. Ban just happened to be super fueled and charged up. They rocked a country in in such a way. They did not succeed in their albums. They recorded in nashville for m. c. records. They weren't hits. But it's alive and dip probably wasn't a better band. They were like a roadhouse band and dave they they could have been the best band in texas that don so when they pop up and they toured london and play a few days. The clash. They quick ride in the clashes is making this kinda revolutionary taking roots music and punk rock and reinventing music. And they saw nearly doing. The same thing is really a case of both bands looking at the other. Wanting what the other hand in the crash were definitely you know romanticize the american mythic west and when they came to texas came and hung out with yellow east austin opened up Shared bills with and austin and in lubbock as well They were kind of like a fantasy realizing the green. And so it was like. I'm not sure who got more avoca proposition that it's very telling me. Joe ely opening up for the clash is no different than A few years earlier anti-obama greasy wheels. Yeah okay your house fan. But to have alan alan's valley boys open up for bruce springsteen on bruce springsteen's first appearance in texas and scaring the waddell out of greece springsteen 'cause he'd never heard a western swing band that could rock and they were intimidated so.

There's a big venue and it's not just local accident plan there but national acts that he came less than three months after the vulcan gas company shuts down. Because in las leaks noah showing up and club have been sold and resells any wilson Is beer lobbyist for a beer obvious. Big alexa marine decided. He's going to manage house van the broken gas company bands and all of a sudden his band that he was managing lost her gig so we need to find a place and when i was taking a leak outside of requirements house and he happened to spot this building. The investigate it was empty. Armory and you know anywhere took initiative to go find out own the building You know and it was. It had been empty and basically about twenty five hundred years and very little money. I think he got a thousand dollars from spencer. Perkin of shingles headband. Because i just signed a deal with apple records in bed shrike. The rider who just moved to austin by choice. He was writing for sports illustrated. Time gave eighty thousand dollars and and these friends and and any basically opened a concert hall. The armadillo world headquarters in august of nineteen sandy and there was no business plan. There was no money. There was no real vision. Then wouldn't it be cool to start a place. It's basically a place per music and what the armadillo became in a very short amount of time was the community center for hippies in texas there was an adjacent beer garden or hippies could hang out all the time in great cheap beer north. Live music there. There were house bands inside armadillo. Which by the way was air and it was pretty crashed out. It was an empty Own national guard armor. But what did that. No one else is doing is bringing music and wasn't just local. Bands but touring acts. And i noticed than the one thousand nine hundred seventy one disc jockey. I've been working a freeform radio station gal fort worth and i started noticing that you know bands that were playing dallas and fort worth or eastern for play austin in pans it. I like the burrito brothers can be parties magic band. Raccoon always cool these cakes. We're going to austin so. I go down and investigate met jim. Franklin and eighty wilson and early nineteen seventy-one saw what they were doing and moved to austin two years later in nineteen seventy three. But i gotta say that When i look at that army all lasted until nineteen eighty. That's where i got my music. Education was college. It was better than college. It was fun and it was a huge venue. And you know your miguel stood out. It can take a capacity of about fifteen hundred people can sit on the floor festivals. Five styles but again. They've got an axe early on that no one else bringing in its early years. It was called acid pretty kengo pretty cameras xs blues man blues cars and he was playing on circuit clubs with planning for why folks much and for some reason austin yarnell freddie king became you know best friends in in and he was one of the first acts to regularly play the joy impact out in nineteen seventy-two nelson famous blue played yarn delo and the hippies lie down with the rednecks discovered a common grew. They love music and love beer in the red next we and and really kind of like a now formalize this simpler system country rock and roll folk all these different sounds together and of course with doug sahm present without moved to austin because now he was the arm deal ended up playing with the eastbound. Actually his own base resnais smaller. Kicker version of the armadillos out west of town called so quick. Saloon and and that was a place where rhode x. Reply roadhouse angst. I mean it wasn't just done. Which was doug club. Because doug ed in his house like listen to a hundred yards away and he could play show creek any time in any kind of music so he can play with freedom. The fire dogs inside stone country music. We can up his his horn. France for san antonio and flights Chicago rhythm and blues at the eib brought in pretty fender out of retirement to show folks. What tex-mex music was all about You know often in the world diplock in tennessee. Douglas basically creating what we now call americana music. English is very multi. Talented guy sat on the hank. Williams growing up in san antonio watched t bone walker play electric blues qatar. He got direct clients mission and all of a sudden all kind of roots music. First Aid Kit Share Cover of Willie Nelson’s ‘On the Road Again’

"From NPR music, it's all songs considered. I'm Bob. Boylan. The last time I went to see a show was march twelfth. The band was the donning Irish group called Lincoln. I think a lot about how we're all missing shows about music venues and their ability to survive in this crisis search online. There are ways for you to help. And I'm reminded of all this because I just got a cover of Willie Nelson's on the road. Again, it's from the Swedish do first aid kit and began to think listening to the words that despite the grueling nature of touring the musicians deeply missed the club's the crowds, the fan, the interaction I'll let Clara from first aid kit, take it from here. We recorded our cover of Willie Nelson's classic song on the road again a few years ago but never released it when the reality of covid and no touring this year said. In, we decided it was a good time to share the song. We miss the joy of live music and hope that soon, we will be able to tour again, the proceeds from the streaming of the song will go to crew nation who are supporting the live music community. During this unprecedented time, the video is cold from our tour footage throughout the years Joanna Amazingly edited the entire thing and it makes us really nostalgic. We hope you enjoy the song and we can't wait to get on the road again,

Grammy Awards: Performances, winners, highlights

"I will say this about the about the about the Grammys. It was long. I mean long it started at seven. And it ended at a quarter to eleven. Oh, yeah. That's yeah. That's really long. Yeah. And you the know you had your e. Red carpet, which I think started around noon. The get gets Seacrest out there. And there's you know, they're they're out there for three hours before the before the show so long. It was a long long night for all the people who were there. The overall. I mean, like I said earlier the Grammy's really is. Not like other award shows in that they're mostly concerned with the performances not so much, you know, the awards themselves. They only hand out a few awards during during the Grammy's mostly it's about. It's about the performances and there were there was a ton of performances on the on the show. Some were good some weren't. Like, I said for me the best performance of the night. With brandy Carlisle. Who I really like a lot. And I thought her I thought she gave the best performance. And and of course, you had you had your tributes there. Diana Ross turned seventy five and she did she did your basic Diana Ross over the top performance. And. Herger grants her grandson introduced her and he's nine and he's got like an incredible head of hair. He was he was real. He was really he was really very very funny this kid, and then there was a tribute to Dolly Parton, which was great because Dolly Parton. That's that's the one that. I I really wanna go back and watch. Yeah. It's it's you definitely should because. Between her and Cyrus working together. And then. Her singing the song called red shoes? I just you know, I mean, I love I love Dolly Parton. She's she's phenomenal. So but overall, I I mean, I did think it was way too long. And you know, they were cutting their speeches. Who people would get up there? And when they're when they're award, and then they were just like really blasting the music and cutting the speeches. Which at that point. It's like at this point man, the show is like four and a half hours long. But are we? What are you? What are you worried about the speeches for so? But yeah, I mean here are some of the winters are, you know, some of these winners are were surprising. I think. So like, for instance, record of the year went to this is America by childish Gambino, which I'm thrilled about because I love childish Gambino. But Donald Glover wasn't there. That was the that was the disappointing thing. It was like, you know, they want some major awards. One record of the year and run one song of the year. So those are two major major awards Donald Glover wasn't there. So this is America one song of the year at one record of the year album of the year went to golden hour by Casey muss graves. Who I was not very familiar with. But she's good. Best new artist went to do a leaper best solo pop solo performance went to JoAnne. Where do you think you're going by lady Gaga? Best pop duo or group performance went to shallow by lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, by the way, lady Gaga's performance was weird. I mean, she's she is a bit of a weird. Performer in general. But. It was very intense and crazy. She was wearing a weird civil know like a glittery jumpsuit and making all kinds of weird faces and stuff, and I just was I was the little I was a little confounded by her by your performance. And I really liked the song. I mean, obviously shallows a terrific song. And it's probably going to win an Oscar and a couple of weeks for her. But yeah, she and Bradley Cooper got the got the award for best pop duo or group performance. Best pop album went to sweetener by our 'Grande, Ariana GRANDE day, best rock performance with when bad. Does goodbye. Chris cornell. Chris cornell. How did he have a backlog of of new material is that what the deal is? That's that's got to be. Yeah. What happened there? Yeah. Well deserved. Well. Yeah. Mean he was the best deserved. Best rock song went to miss education. By Saint Vincent. Best rock album from the fires by Greta van fleet. Best alternative music album was colors by Beck. Best R&_B performance best part by her. Best urban contemporary album. Everything is loved by the Carter's best Rb album her by her. Best rap performance. Kings, dead Kendrick Lamar. And bubbling, by Anderson pock, or pack Anderson pack. Best rap song to God's plan by Drake. Best rap album went to invasion of privacy by Cardi B. So I have a question for you. Would you truly consider Drake a rapper? Yeah. I just feel like he just talks over. Yeah. No. He's a rapper. He's a rapper has never. I just never hear wrapping when I compared to like, I get he's different in an hands down mad respect to him for being different standing out everything. I just compared to everything else that's out there. I just never think. It's. And he's Canadian. Oh, wow. So best music video went to this is America, childish Gambino, man. Donald Glover, man. Yeah. When in some serious stuff that video rules. It was awesome. Yeah. Or the song is amazing to chose Gambino. Hey, you know, weird Al yankovic wanna wanna Grammy? That's that's too now for squeeze box the complete works of weird Al yankovic, which is best boxed or special limited edition package. So at one for the packaging. Yeah. I like that. Yankovic? What was it was it last year was the first time you want one? Two years who years ago, but it, but it took that long. Yeah. How did how did weird Al not? How did he not have a granny? I have no idea. How does he have a room full of Grammy's? So I don't know. You know, you know, they get so many weird categories. This is the thing about the Grammys is that there's like seven thousand awards they only hand out about six of them on the show, but there's like a million awards here. Best compilation soundtrack for visual media. What that went to the greatest showman. Best soundtrack for visual media, Black Panther. That one has my vote, but I'm a marvel fan. Yeah. You know, the music the music for Black Panthers. Great. I think you know, what for all those marvel movies? The scores have been awesome. Yeah. Just really outstanding. Let's see best country song went to space cowboy Casey muss graves. I'm assuming that's not the. It's not the Steve Miller song. I would I would imagine. Best traditional pop vocal album. My way by Willie Nelson. Best country duo group performance. Dan shea with tequila. So the the those guys performed those guys performed last night. Did they? Yeah. And I don't even know. I like, here's here's another thing. Whenever I watched the Grammys or or like music awards and stuff, especially the MTV, which I don't even try to watch anymore. The MTV video music awards because I feel like I'm one hundred and six years old. I have no idea who anybody is. Like when I was watching. I was watching the Grammy's last night. I'm like, I have no idea that is I've never heard this song before in my life. Deli part partner, Diana Ross word Sam smokey Robinson. I knew that. But yeah, you know, a lot of a lot of the stuff. That's like, you know, younger. I don't I dunno. Shawn Mendez guy. He was okay. He performed I believe he performed again. I think that was also with Miley Cyrus. Yeah. It was that was what Miley Cyrus to. She was all over the place last night. I try to be as open minded as possible. But I just do. I just like for the most part. I just kind of sit on my couch, and I don't I don't recognize anybody. I don't know who these people are so three one two nine eight one seven two hundred is the phone number if you'd like to to join us. If you watched what did you think what did you guys think of the the ceremony? What did you guys think of? Of the performances because there were a lot of performances. Let's see best is ain't got bluegrass. You've got traditional blues guy won the blues is alive. And well. Best spoken word album. Jimmy Carter Jimmy Carter got himself a Grammy. Best music film. How is that? When did that become a category? I don't know. But I like it best music film. And I don't see. Wait a minute. I feel like Bowie's Quincy. From Quincy jumps before before. I heard that. I just would have gone with bohemian rhapsody. But yeah. Say. So. Yeah. And then also last night were the Bastas. Those are the British film awards. They were handed out as well at the same time. But I ended up watching the Grammys ex. I basically forgotten that the Baptist were. We're we're being handed out. That's why Bradley Cooper wasn't at the Grammys. Someone lady Gaga got up to to accept their award for their group or
