American troops are being moved close to Sudan and the growing speculation they could be involved in some sort of evacuation or rescue of American nationals trapped in the country by the outbreak of violence that is now nearly a week old. However, a U.S. source has indicated that these troops might only be deployed to facilitate the departure of U.S. embassy personnel and warned that due to the uncertainty of the security situation in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, that other Americans in the country, some 16,000 should not expect a wider U.S. government coordinated evacuation at this time.
