Eric Metaxas on the Warning in His Book 'Letter to the American Church'

"The thesis of my book horrifying as it is, and I mean it with no exaggeration, whatever, is that the silence of the American church today on a host of issues is precisely similar to the silence of the German church in the 30s. It's exactly the same thing. I believe the lord led me to write my bahnhof for book, like really almost as a prophetic warning. I didn't know that when I wrote it, this is, you know, in 2008 came out in 2010. I just thought I'm telling an important story about a Christian hero, Dietrich bonhoeffer, and the story. And because my family grew up, my mother's from Germany lived through that period. I did. It was just very moving to me, but I realized in retrospect that the story of what happened to the German church, which many people are familiar with through my bahnhof her book is a warning to the American church and I look around and I see that the American church today to its deep shame is exactly silent in similar ways to the silence of the German church. And the thing is at the time in the German church, they didn't think they were doing wrong. They thought, well, we want to stay in our lane. We don't want to be political. We don't want to talk about that or that or that or that. You know, we just want to preach the gospel. They had all these kinds of theological excuses, which were totally wrong, and bahnhof recalls them out on it, tries to wake them up. He says these theological objections are only fear. And I see exactly the same thing. And again, with no exaggeration. Exactly the same thing happening today. People who have read my bahnhof her book, who would say like, oh, if I was alive, then I would have spoken, of course. It's so obvious. You got to speak against evil. Well, today they're not speaking against Steve. A lot of Christian leaders are being deadly silent on all kinds of issues and their excuses are all the same. Well, we don't want to be political. We don't want to be divisive. People who've read my book on William wilberforce, amazing grace. They read it and they go, oh, if I was alive in those days, I would have been right there with wilberforce. Well, I'm here to say that the people who got it wrong on the slave trade and on slavery. The Christians who got it wrong on those issues, the Christians who got it wrong on speaking against the Nazis. Christians are getting it wrong now in our generation and we are at an impossible inflection point on bearable I say because we only have a little period of time to get this right. In fact, we almost have no time. If we don't wake up and begin speaking now, it's like the German church in 1933, 34, 35.

Eric Is a Special Guest on the Becket Cook Show!

"Hey guys, welcome to the show. Today I have a very special guest. Eric metaxas. He's been on this show several times. And you probably know him from his book Bond hoffer, which is an amazing biography of Dietrich bonhoeffer. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it. He's written mini biographies, including amazing grace on William wilberforce. And Martin Luther and he's written a book called miracles, which we discussed on this show before. And we discussed his memoir, fish out of water on this show before. But today, and he's written many other many other books. So but today we're going to talk about his latest book, letter to the American church. And I'm excited to have him on to get into this. But first, a word from our sponsor. Welcome Eric metaxas. I believe that's me. How are you? That is you. It looks like you. It's good to see you. Good to see you. Because you're one of those people, you encourage me. Thanks for having me on. You encourage me as well. I'm glad you're on and this book is encouraging letter to the American church. It's not only encouraging, but it's quite eye opening. And quite urgent. So I want to, in the introduction of the book, the very first sentence of your introduction, you say why you've written this book. I've written this book because I'm convinced the American church is at an impossibly and almost unbearably important inflection point. What is this inflection point? It's pretty simple. Anybody who knows the story of what happened to the church in Germany in the 1930s, anybody who knows is familiar with my bahnhof her book and the story of von for trying to wake up the German church. Knows that the silence of the German church led to hell on earth. And we put that right at the foot of the German church, more than at anyone else, got appointed them to speak, they chose to be silent by the time they figured out what was going on, it was too late. And the thesis of my book horrifying as it is, and I mean it with no exaggeration, whatever, is that the silence of the American church today on a host of issues is precisely similar to the silence of the German church in the 30s. It's exactly the same thing.

Doug and Coach Chan Gailey Discuss the Heisman Trophy

"When are they just going to name the husband trophy, the best quarterback in the country? I mean, today I was here, I was listing over the last weekend. I saw, you know, Caleb Williams has got to be the best, the best athlete and no, he's not. You know, the best player. It's just become a quarterback battle. When did that, I mean, running back quarterback now, is it just understood that that's the way it's going to be? Well, what is happening is they have to have statistics to back up their decisions. It doesn't have anything to do with who the greatest athlete who has the most impact on their good team, it is who has the great statistics that they can throw out there. And a DB that intercepts ten passes 12 passes in the season, one again is still not going to get named because he doesn't have, they can't throw that statistic out there. And everybody goes, oh, that's amazing. No quarterback statistics. So they can throw those up there.

Scott Powell and Eric Reflect on the Pilgrim-Wampanoag Peace Treaty

"Whenever we talk about the Indians, of course, it's complicated because there's no such thing as the Indians. You have all of these Native American tribes, many of whom were, you know, genuinely bloodthirsty savages, and many of whom were absolutely wonderful and kind and gentle. So when we're talking about the wampanoags and it is interesting to me that it so happened that it was possible for them to have this wonderful beginning. Tell us a little bit more about that. But it is really, it's just astonishing when you talk about 50 50 year treaty with massasoit that was that squanto helped to broker, obviously they never would have been able to get a foothold these pilgrims and these English souls on American soil if it hadn't been for that. That's very true. It's true. You know, the hardship that they endured, the backstory of the pilgrims is equally fascinating. I mean, they were on ships that almost sank twice. First of all, they fled Great Britain because they were persecuted. You know, the leaders of the pilgrims went to jail for their beliefs. And anyway, they were released, and they made a second attempt to escape England to go to Holland, which was more tolerant, more religiously tolerant. They lived there for ten years, meanwhile, the Jamestown colony was successful, and they heard about that. And they realized that we would be better off going to the new world. And they viewed the new world in her brave terms. This is what's so remarkable about the pilgrims. William Bradford wrote the first 20 pages of his narrative of pilgrim's progress in Hebrew. He was a Christian, and yet he could write in Hebrew, and so he did.

Bill Federer Shares the Story of Squanto

"One of the stories that we have to include is squanto. And if I have a few minutes, I'd be happy to share that. Continue. So the pilgrims were religious, but there were other groups that weren't and they were pirates. So Spain had a monopoly on the new world for at least a century, and they had gold from Inca Peru and portobello Panama and they take it to Cuba and ship it and these Dutch and French and English pirates would raid the gold, but they would also sail up the coast of North America. Lure unsuspecting Indians on board, lock them below deck, take them over to malaga, Spain and sell them into slavery. So one of the Indians that was captured was squanto and the story is he was purchased by some monks in Spain who gave him his freedom. He hitchhikes his way across Europe, gets to England. He's there for a dozen years working, learning the language and the family finds some business that takes him to Newfoundland, right? A fishing type outfit. And then he gets the boat to drop him off at Plymouth, Massachusetts, only to find his whole tribe is dead. They were wiped out by a plague, William Bradford writes that three years earlier, a French ship was shipwrecked off the case, the coast of Cape Cod. Sailors got ashore, Indians never left watching them and bogging them, till they got the advantage killed them all, but three or four maybe sport with them worse than slaves. Anyway, one of those French men must have had an illness and the Indians didn't have immunity and it wipes out the tribe. So sort of in a reverse sense had squanto not been captured in kidnapped. He most certainly would have died. But squanto is living with the neighboring wampanoag tribe and then that fall is when the pilgrims show up. Half of the pilgrims die the first winner. They wouldn't have survived another year. Spring of 1621, walking into their camp is squanto. And you can just picture the conversation. I mean, he's in his loincloth and he goes up and he goes, oh yeah, you guys from London, I used to live there. You know, oh yeah, the pump down on war street or St. Paul's chapel. He goes, oh, yeah, yeah, I know that place. And then he says, oh, this place here, I grew up here. I know this place like the back of my hand over that hill is a spring. And William Bradford says he taught him how to catch fish. He said, you know, that they weren't successful, but he says, don't use salmon. They spawn this river. It's going to be packed. And then he taught him how to plant corn. They said, we tried it. He goes, no, you got to dig a hole, put some fish in, then put the kernel of corn and cover it up. The fish decompose fertilizes the soil. You have a nice harvest. Bottom how to take the corn and put it in a pot, shake it and make popcorn, right? And then he taught him how to go down to the riverbank squeegee in the mud and catch eels and clams and lobsters and then how to catch beaver skins. It took 40 years worth of beaver skins to pay off their debt for the boat ride,

There's Things That We Have to Be Thankful For...

"There's things that we have to be thankful for. Do not forget to count your blessings. Don't let stress in the perception of depression to make you forget all of the wonderful things that God has done in your life, all of your great accomplishments, you've got to look at the good with the bad. But be thankful. This is your opportunity to be thankful. And I just want to give some context to Thanksgiving. I know a lot of people may not understand the true history of it. People may only think that Thanksgiving is about neck bones, collard greens, chitlins, at least that's what I remember Thanksgiving to be. However, my wife refused to cook me chitlins. But I understand they smell like crap. So she don't want to cook them. But anybody out there that know how good chitlins is when you put some hot sauce on it, especially y'all people from the south, you know what I'm talking about. I'll miss those chipmunk. But let me just read this to you. And I think this is very well laid out. My producer sent it to me and I think that it was pretty good. It says, let us let all give thanks to what we are thankful for. In autumn of 1621, Plymouth colony governor William Bradford urged his brethren to observe a Thanksgiving Day observations observance, I'm sorry, for God's harvest, blessings with pilgrims and Native Americans who helped him. In 1777, after the Revolutionary War, victory over the British at the Sarah Saratoga, the second Continental Congress declared that there should be a day of Thanksgiving.

The Pilgrims Found Out Early That Socialism Did Not Work

"Rush said, long before Karl Marx was even born, long before Karl Marx was a sperm cell in his father's dreams, the pilgrims had discovered an experimented with what could only be described. As socialism, and they found it didn't work. Now it wasn't called that then, but that's exactly what it was. Everybody given an equal share. You know what happened? Nobody did anything. There was no incentive, nothing worked nothing happened. And so William Bradford, after putting everybody in a common store, they wanted to be fair, they wanted everybody to at least have a shot at survival, but it did not work. There was no prosperity. There was no creativity. And again, because there was no incentive to be creative. And that's why they came up with this idea of letting every man be a zone man. To live in those early days, the American Dream. And that's really what they were celebrating on that first Thanksgiving. Because they were able to pay off their debts. Soon people in the old world were beginning to hear about the prosperity that was happening. In the new world. And they came here. And it was that early beginning where we almost lost what would have been America because of socialism that the pilgrims embraced capitalism, and as a result, they were able to flourish.

Paul Kengor and Eric Discuss the Intersection of Communism and Faith

"Extraordinary to me because in my research on the Nazis for my bahnhof for book, to watch how they are not always overt about the God thing. In other words, if they don't really want to make trouble, they'll try to suck you in. But as you, if you join the SS for example, eventually through the 30s, it became more and more impossible, frankly, to be any kind of a Christian. They made it very, very clear if you wanted to advance in the SS. And again, this is the Nazis, not the communists, but it's a dramatically similar situation where when you have state power, inevitably it is God and those who love God that are the enemy. And so it's fascinating how they don't lead with that necessarily because they don't want to scare people away. But eventually you discover what's at the heart of where they're coming from. Well, and I quote in the book, herb philbrick, who also testified before Congress and it infiltrated the party. And he said, he was told that literally put your hand on a stack of bibles and say, I don't believe in God or say, I believe in God. If that's what it takes. You know, which for them, it wasn't hard to lie in a stack of lios stack of bibles. They didn't flat out believe in God. But that's where they were told and also William Z foster testified before Congress. I think 1932 it was. And they were told they asked him, they said, mister foster, can somebody be a Christian or a believer? And belong to the Communist Party. And he's kind of visibly scratching his head Eric. He's saying, well, I don't know why you'd want to be a communist and be a member of the party and believe in God. But if you joined and you still had some religious scruples, yeah, you would need to you would need to be in the process of liquidating those in order to be a good member of the party.

"william outside" Discussed on NFL Live

"Well back here on NFL live, and Marcus, what was your favorite pick last night? Oh, y'all know what the hell my favorite pick was. It was Jermaine Johnson going to the jets. The jets got away like a fat cat last night. With this dude falling this for you able to address not only past rush, a guy that I believe is the purest pass rush in this draft, he defends the run very stoutly, and now you get him with a chip on his shoulder because he watched all of those other guys who I know he thought he was in the same tier or as good, go ahead of him. They greased it last night. Yes, sir. I think the saints getting Chris olave is the pick of the first round that I love the most. Not only are Michael Thomas, who's coming back and Chris olave, two of the best route runners, they're two of the smartest and pairing them together this phenomenal. Jameis Winston coming back, that offensive line still being a good unit this passing game is not going to skip a beat. I love the fact that they brought the burner olave in. Listen, I was very excited about the Jameson Williams pick for the Detroit Lions. They big down on the mouthpiece and they said, you know what? This is the dude we want. This is the most explosive wide receiver in this draft. Bump the ACL injury. We're not going to worry about that. We are building a team. We want good players and now you have. I'm on ra saint Brown in the slot. You have jamison Williams outside and you are giving your chance yourself a chance to be explosive offensively. The judge finally got a real receiving car. We got burials. You got you got Denzel mims. You also now have more. You got Wilson now. Wilson now, I mean, when you think about it, they finally and Davis, Corey Davis, they finally got a real receiving core to pair with Zach Wilson at the quarterback spot. All these guys are young and they can grow together. Watch out AFC east in the future. All right, too many skilled players. I'm gonna give love to one of the big guys. And that is Evan Neal going to the Giants at 5 just a flawless fit, Andrew Thomas is cemented as their left tackle. We know Evan Neal can play right tackle because he did in college. He actually played all across the line, so it gives him some versatility there. Brian debo is going to bring his spread offense to New York, Evan Neal can move and execute that. I think it's perfect fit for that team. All right, Mina and I go with the big men as our favorite picks in the first round, because of course we do. Let's go. I get it. People may say that Jordan Davis wasn't exactly the need to be filled there for the eagles, but I absolutely loved the pick and I think Philadelphia is going to love him. He's a guy that has a lot to prove despite how well he played people say he's somewhat limited. I think he's going to be a lot more versatile on that defense than people realize and he's ready for it. Let's get to the packers though because they were a big part of last night. They went defense, but they lost their top two receivers from last year. So naturally, they picked defensive guys again and on both the first round fix. The Georgia the Green Bay pipeline continued with linebacker clay walker at 22 defensive tackle devonte Wyatt at 28 Green Bay has used 11 of its last 12 first rounders on defense, backup quarterback Jordan love. The only offensive player they've taken in that stretch and RC earlier we heard from Aaron Rodgers, he said all the right things, he said, yeah, you don't necessarily see these first round talents always pan out at wide receiver, but let's focus on the defensive side, because this was a good defense. What do you think the packers were thinking here? The packers are thinking this is how you build your football team and the packers are thinking that we are going to dress based on the foundational pieces we think help us be good for the next decade. And when you look at the two guys from Georgia, they can understand how to run, hit and be physical. And that's the type of defense that you want to be. You saw rashawn Gary come along last year, Jaya Alexander is a star on the outside. These are all these pieces that are putting together to win in the future. And I get that, but you still have to do something to help your offense when you lose your top two class cases. Yeah, RSV, you talking, and this is what I think because they drafted two hell of a player. The Los Angeles realms got Cooper Cup and Allen Robinson. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got Chris Godwin coming back in Mike Evans. The New Orleans Saints got crystal lava and Michael Thomas returning. Green Bay. We talking Super Bowl only for this team. I don't want to hear nobody tell me about Green Bay in the next two or three years. They got good players that's going to help them win games. That is not where they want to be. Three years, a $150 million. All year y'all gonna hit me talk about it. They better figure out a way to get explosive offensively, 'cause they ain't beating them three teens that I just mentioned when they see them in the playoffs. It's a lot of receivers left in this draft, though. It's speed to burn in this draft. I like the fact that they did what they did on defense, man. You make that T two key. You make that defense stronger because you know that Aaron Rodgers has done more with less at the receiver position outside of devonta Adams. He said it himself. They've done well in the later rounds with receivers. He's made guys money. Okay? So I'm not really worried about it with 12 is there. All I can do is say they win games. You guys saw Aaron Rodgers earlier. You think he really feels that way or you think he really wanted him to get aggressive and get a receiver. It seems like Aaron Rodgers is not going to say things that he doesn't feel. He seems like he's reached that point and so I think he believes that like keyshawn says he knows who he is and who he has been with those guys, but you can't tell me when you said you want to see the table when they give you a 150 for the next three that you don't feel the pressure of producer. Well, he's going to feel the pressure. Him personally is going to feel the pressure. But if you look at the list that he rattled off, there's one guy javon walker outside of that he dealt with guys that was middle of the road, draft picks and they won a lot of games. But it's only Super Bowl conversation. I'm sorry. That's it. No. In to that point, Dan and Mina, we're talking about Super Bowl here. So the packers have three picks tonight. Who can they go and grab Dan that's going to potentially help him win a Super Bowl? Well, they got to find an anquan Bolden for a Michael Thomas or an AJ Brown because those are the only three receivers in the last 25 years that were second round picks that were thousand yard receivers their rookie year. I agree with our CEO Marcus of the urgency of this football team and the need for it. So do they think that George pickens is that guy? That's the one. But you've got a nail this because we talked about it before. There's teams drafting ahead of you that need them. Now I think George pickens is AJ green talent level. You better make sure he's buttoned up off the field. Sky Moore is a nice player. I don't know if he's gonna come in and be a thousand yard receiver in his rookie season. Yeah, I agree with everything you just said, especially the receivers you identified. I'm throwing Christian Watson as another possibility for them, but I want to say something about Aaron Rodgers comments. He might say he's okay with it now. But I've watched this guy a lot and I have seen the visible frustration is not named devonte Adams on the wrong road or mistimed things or drop balls. We will see that if they don't find a guy, can we also remind everybody this is not just a replacing devonta Adams. Yes. They lost their number one, their number three, and their number four receiver and Mark wise Valdez scantling in equanimity of saint Brown. Robert Tonya and they're starting to come in off of ACL injury. They got massive holes at wide receiver, just not a single one. It makes me really excited to see what they do tonight. Man, keep put on his shades. When we just explain to everybody that this has been so much fun, but we could not do it without our great crew and the production truck back in Bristol, as well as all of you right here. We're so thankful for all of that and thanks for tuning in. The coverage continues tonight. Two and three on ABC, ESPN. As well as NFL network, don't miss it. I guess I gotta stand up. "Eye with 50 seconds to go in take the lead Aaron Andy for Bella with a drive gets a pick from coburn Looks for help For Bello bounce pass inside a Kofi outside Williams outside Carmelo Shot clock in 12 timeout Illinois Good time out by coach 62 61 Indiana With 41.8 to go Good time out Now you get to go over to the Benz They're all something up where you can get a shot Because right now some of our three point shooters seem to be stressful Stressing a little bit with confidence meaning plumber They had that wide open one didn't tell you He was on the bench this time But now you get to get the shooters back in the game Draw up with play where you can get the ball inside to Kofi or you get a better looking shot than what we would have had just now Indiana 62 Illinois 61 A lot I don't feel goals the last four 23 Indiana has been scored in two minutes and 14 seconds One point Indiana lead in the first game of the Big Ten quarterfinals 6 fouls on Illinois ten on Indiana Yelena will actually have 13 to shoot now Hawkins Frazier coburn plumber Bello on the floor Carmelo and Galloway talking to each other The mid court Hawkins the trigger the inbound Hawkins in the backcourt for bellow 62 61 Indiana For Bello 9 to shoot Look at inside for Kofi lob Kofi with a catch and he's fouled Nick Xavier Johnson got him nope Give it to somebody else Race Jackson Davis Anybody 33 seconds to go in the game Shot block of course will still be in play Kofi coburn who at the line today is 5 out of 6 62 61 Indiana The noise will rise As Kofi with two shots He hit too earlier First one up got it Buys the game at 62 Williams in 62 all Illinois and Indiana with 33 seconds to go Kofi with a second Of two Takes a deep breath Bounces it once twice blings it up Got it Kofi coburn with two free throws Illinois back in front 63 62 Mike Woods that does have a timeout left Dribble it on top with it 26 seconds to go and one Foul Yes Kofi 15 feet away from the basket Not necessary Foul on Kofi cover what was he doing Trying to steal the ball Grace Jackson Davis to the line Trace Jackson Davis first free throw of the day For the year 67% Now what plumber is going to come in 63 62 Illinois over Indiana 26 seconds to go Plummer is in Williams out 7 on Illinois one and one Trey strikes the Davis You got a box out Free throw up and he got it Ties the game at 63 This one for the lead 26 seconds to go The line I do have a timeout left Second one is up and got it 64 63 Indiana by one for Bello with a drive to the right corner 19 seconds nearly lost the handle saves it gets it to Kofi and Brad Underwood wants to time out because that was going nowhere Kofi was having trouble 15 seconds left And Indianapolis Indiana with two free throws on a foul by Kofi at the free throw line Line I are down to points Z Indiana Indiana wins Most likely they'll put them in the tournament NCAA tournament And Illinois if they were to lose could it hurt their seating was a big dance we'll see But let's think about a win here Exactly What do we need to draw up I mean again the ball is going inside the cold I mean he shoot his free throws well tonight I've coached solos once before he has confidence in him at the end of the game to make them So you definitely going to run something about the pick and roll with he and Cabello with scooters in the corner but your main objective is to get the ball inside to the big building Over there is 23 points and ten rebounds another double double 41 straight games with double figures 44th career double double first at Illinois 11 points for Frazier with 6 assists Carmelo 5 points 9 rebounds and four assists 18 for Hawkins He's at four threes Jackson Davis with 20 for Indiana ten for Thompson 13 for Xavier Johnson 15.3 on the clock Illinois is out of timeouts Indiana with a lead by one 64 63 Everybody standing As we watch it here and in Indianapolis Illinois missed 8 free throws today Hawkins plumber cover and Frasier on the floor Frazier has won a couple of games for us Late Indiana looking to defend What is Mike Wilson He's talking to the official here All right Indiana 64 Illinois 63 Here we go 14 seconds for the game Frazier Frazier on trying to throw it to Hawkins and he throw it out of bounds Frazier went one way Hawkins went the other and they missed fired They threw it out of bounds Miller top comes in The align iron down a point they never got a shot Warren Frazier was going to throw it to Hawkins He drove in Hawkins went one way and the ball went out of bounds Left now Indiana's got it 64 63 Indiana inbound a Miller comedy foul with ten seconds But why You're at enough time That's all fits We gotta look here What do you think I don't know if they just didn't communicate or A lot I are down to points 64 63 The Indiana here comes Kofi back in the game And Williams is going to sit down At the line is Miller cop He has not shot a free throw today It's 30 of 34 for the year Indiana's up one with ten and a half seconds to go Illinois is out of timeouts With a one and one Free throw Rebound for Bella lilana can win the game With 9 with 6 grab a to the rim layup missed it Fought for the rebound Indiana's got it They're gonna dribble it out And a foul with 1.7 For bellow and a layup it wouldn't go down Now the Fulton ran or celebrating They're up by one 64 63 for Bello had a shot but it wouldn't go in This is why you don't allow people confidence You let them hang around and hang around and at the end of the game they can nip you And then this is what happens tonight Brian but you're right You got all the way to the basket and unpair it with a simple layup for him At the line trace Jackson Davis the Indiana who's release lead is one 64 63 with 1.7 left So one and one 9 foul on Illinois with the line I would have to get it go the length of the corner at 1.7 Three throw up and good For Jackson Davis now it's a two point Indiana lead 65 63 And Jackson Davis with a chance to put Indiana up three with 1.7 to go Everybody drops back except for race Thompson Indiana up to 1.7 to go the next one is short on the floor Indiana is going to win the game The align I will get ready for the NCAA tournament They are out of the Big Ten tournament And Indiana may have just put themselves in 65 63 Indiana for the Big Ten semifinals Left it short on purpose Never got a shot in the final 20 seconds So here scratch if it goes for Bello had the layup itself I mean the last almost 5 minutes couldn't find a basket And I don't know if you attribute that to Indiana because Indiana did a good job defensively Don't get me wrong don't want to take anything away from them But it seems like we could never find a rhythm today Or I don't know if that was the time off in between all of the emotions of winning the Big Ten I don't know But it's just wow tough And the Indiana fans are jumping around for joy as well they should I or one and done here at the big center 65 63 Indiana Neither Dave got a big lead Largest lead was 5 for Illinois 6 for Indiana What that last layup attempt by curvelo he got to the lane He had a roll off the rim A lot I did not have a field goal the last 5 minutes Indiana didn't have a field goal the last nearly three minutes And Indiana the 9 seat is through to the Big Ten semifinals with a two point win over the top seat at fighting a line on Well that one sticks That does 65 63 will have postgame commentary.

Mike Woods Mike Wilson Frasier Hawkins Dave Brad Underwood Aaron Andy Brian Frazier 23 points 44th 33 seconds 50 seconds Xavier Johnson Bello Davis 15 feet ten and a half seconds Cabello today

She's a queuing people in different rooms and three one to switch. And we're gonna go to thank you. I can tell you. My grandma would have been very jealous of that. 'cause he was obsessed with the royal family. Oh yeah you probably only got it through a one measly channel. That's not sure i bet it was. I bet it was shown. Live on like a bunch of the news channels probably. Yeah because you do that with big news events in the us. The inauguration is always on every you could. We watch the inauguration on probably seven different news channels simultaneously for you had enough. If you had enough video or quotas you could have really. You could already filled up bookshelf winner. You i mean obviously only one of those is gonna be your favorite coverage. I guess like winter. You're watching the ones. I that's definite like comes from my mum's instinct of just we cannot lose like this has to be preserved to do animal planet. I was much animal planet. Footage of the inauguration. It's like the way they have the puppy. Both the diana funeral insane i when i was in london During kate in williams wedding. And so i got my grandma these tea biscuits from will. Oh harrods from harrods rate which you know like i got like this commemorative play fine and these tea biscuits input the biscuits. Were like beautiful. But i was like. Please eat them in. She was like i. Can't there too pretty. And so she just put them on a shell and then she passed away at the end of two thousand nineteen. When i was home in the summer i stopped by my grandma's house and my aunt gave them back to me and she's like well. You know you gave these to your grandma's you can have them and i'm like what them directly away. What is going on. Not why did you guys skits on the fucking shelf for years. Yeah granddaughter bob this milk in two thousand and meant a lot to me. It was the baby jessica milk. He was missing. This is commemorative milk. And then i thought well. Maybe i'll try one 'cause like their biscuits. How bad could they have gone bad. That's the thanks communist miscast as well our than cookies. I appreciate the translation. It's great that you said that like that's normal and everyone's going to go along with it you're like and then of course i tried one. Obviously like you would when you get biscuits back site or you're going to try one. Everybody gets that well. The thing is they were lake because they're so harrods this big department store that they're apparently the you correct me if i'm wrong map but from my understanding they're they're the only place that is allowed to do like official commemorative stuff for like the royals and i don't know about that but they they are like the sort of rich right but but also widdly. Now they have a way to connection to the royal family because harris was bought by mohamed. Al fayed whose son nonni. Princess diana's boyfriend partner the ended the call with him at the time of the death. Actually that makes me wonder if. I'm sure that there's a big enough like merch. Industry outside of a keeton. Which was it. I forgot william no who kate mary. She married william outside the william and kate wedding or outside of the princess. Di funeral there must have been like bootleggers like i with tons of bootleg grow family stuff. I've got congrats. Kate and billy and it's it's horrible there isn't there isn't really emf I i don't know if you can. I don't know if they have their faces copyrighted trademarked. But even if there's nothing to stop some selling plates with like charles charles and diana mug in my in my parents house and there's no way that that didn't that from the official buckingham palace store whatever. Is someone selling that mug. that's funny. They apparently had the street party. Which was i. I was a life. Oh but i don't remember it. My grandma had in cardboard cutout like a life-size cardboard cutout princess diana and it was on the landing of her steps. Like when you first come in the house and it was like to give it context. This is like my grandma had this beautiful entryway with a chandelier and shit in cardboard cutout of princess diana and then also in her living room was like next to a grand piano is a cardboard cutout of the pope. So it's like. I don't know if she has friends who were. Maybe losing their eyesight just to sort of trick them in one guy so well. I lucky you came around today because we have. We have some other guests ridiculous. Truly we are on today. Which was it I think the the home dude. That's there now. I don't i don't know they're all named Paul and john right. I mean i don't know who i think is is the first insys. Oh so then it must have been the last guy. i think it was polera. John is the last one still alive. The one that like quit. Yes yes it was. John paul died was john. Paul yeah john. And then it was Benedict who was like the really who is like those of emperor from style was looking guy. Yeah but then he quit rates. Yeah he's like. I'm sick pope. And so he stills yeah. I think he's still looking around. I'm pretty i would've. They would announced it if he died. You'd think that's a big thing. Maybe i don't know or do. They just launched their bodies into the atmosphere. Everything around the pope is so weird and spooky and they're such strange rituals on like i do. They still going on. "Hinds so they didn't lose him either so they only lost two players in totality last week this week because of the four players that are on the covert list. They didn't have to move on from five players and they only move on from the rim haruna hula who No big deal -gratulations toenail nap plot. Yeah who had only been on the team for a week so like they have truly only said goodbye to three players. One of whom has only been on the team for a week so there really haven't been there. Hasn't been an emotional. You goodbye type sort of situation. You know what i mean. yeah. I've noticed that that they haven't talked about the people who are gone at all and they kind of talked about the cuts briefly and then never came back to it. And i guess it's because like you said they're they're just haven't been any you know it's it's it's just been the most fringe of fringes You know maybe when the big cutdown comes will just flooded with a lot of that stuff but yeah as is this like wins. That story gonna show up. It's in that always a traditionally big part hard knocks so we are in a different space because every nfl is playing three preseason games but the cowboys are obviously playing four because of the profit hall of fame we also have the by after this week's worth of preseason games before the regular season starts however there is an episode of hard knocks as a result of the baht so we will get a new episode next week. Which is the day that every team has to get down to fifty three players. But i don't know if they're gonna. They normally do include those on the final episode because they have to. But i kind of feel like meg next week like a week from now. We're going be talking about all the footage they show from the jacksonville game. Even though hours before the episode airs the cowboys are going to have cut down their roster and then we might get all of those conversations a full week later that make sense to you in reality. Tv scripting method. Yeah they seem to be showing a at least the beginning of the episode to like just drive in but they seem to be showing like prior weeks drying in like a week behind by the real life. Yeah so. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened. If you like that those kind of against the normal heart hard knocks or maybe were just more focused on it because we've all the team but yeah i'll see. I dunno ooh. This is a great question from cuts back everybody okay. I'm back that was terrifying. I was terrified. Bill says i'm really interested to see how dallas handles the if mike mccarthy talks to all of them who was present when mike mccarthy talks etc this is. This is different for every team last year. We saw. Sean mcveigh handled. Obviously for the rams in vance joseph handle it for the chargers tony. Do you think you'll be mike mccarthy or do you i mean we know that he will cut into nucci It'll be an intimate moment Five the i. I mean it's like hey emotional. You know what. I mean like these. These guys have been through war together. Five why i don't think the niches from pittsburgh is. He's from like that area. That neck of the woods. I i mean if you're from dallas guy. Okay gotcha gotcha tony. Who else could be in the room. When mike mccarthy's cutting people man you know you think mike mccarthy just based on the personality in the coach he is. He's going to have that you know he's going to have that brief. Know that same type of holiday rap apar- knocks like this is what you gotta do. I appreciate your heart like you're working hard in some word for you. Whenever i write smoke we have not seen again by the way like i would have thought that that was going to be a thing for whatever i mean. You've read on the. I think mike mccarthy i think we're going to get the classic turk type. Feel like bring your playbook coach wants to see you. You're going to see that hall. And but i think mike mccarthy who he is a coach he's gonna give everybody that personal touch like ben ghanouchi might get a few more minutes than everybody else. But you know at the end of the day. I think i'm interesting that i mean. I don't like to see that kind of stuff. But i'm always fascinated kinda see how each coach needs kind of organization. Handles those type of things. Roy do you think jerry. We'll be part of any cuts. No no jerry. I mean i will maclay. Who's more likely to be in the room with mike. Mccarthy will mcclay. I think is more likely to be in there There is a possibility that i suppose he could be in there helping with that conversation. But you know for the most part. That's usually something i would. I would leave to the head coach for the most part in. And i think mike mccarthy is well suited to do that i believe he did that in green bay but i i guess i'm not one hundred percent stir on that But i would think he would be suitable for it and if not him then maybe like the positional coaches. That would have a conversation with them because those all seem to be very close knit and have a good work in communicative relationship. So perhaps that's the way they go. But my bets on mccarthy. I have one more for each of you. You're all going to have to answer this. We're going to go counterclockwise. Starting with tahu think there. Let's a lot to me. I think the positional coaches is a good call. I could kind of see. I mean because mike mccarthy has spoken a lot about the leadership council which is something. The cowboys have had gone on forever because jason love him some leaders But i could see like like a demarcus lawrence being in there or maybe not being in the room being like wait like waiting outside the room. You know what. I mean for the bro hug. You know what. I'm saying like you know kim in come on in you know. Don't worry you know. There's a lot of opportunities in the nfl type thing like you know the i love in. You're like i. I'm actually thinking more like a fraternity initiation where the standing with the robes. And they're like. I'm sorry you're not. Worthy lights is back on netflix. On my brain is back in that space. Like i could see him kind of being like a smash williams outside. You know what. I mean like i got you. Don't worry we're gonna go on to win the super bowl but like we'll know down the road Sort of thing but anyway So my last question for everybody. And we're going counterclockwise. Starting with tom because he loves to go first tom. What is one thing you have to see in next week's episode or you will throw a fit..

mike mccarthy cowboys Sean mcveigh vance joseph nucci Hinds dallas ben ghanouchi nfl meg mcclay jacksonville rams jerry chargers maclay pittsburgh tahu Bill demarcus lawrence
