Did Washington Do Enough to Push Dallas in the NFC?

"Did washington football teams teamers and the giants do enough to push dallas in the nfc. So i left philly out. I don't yeah. I just don't i am found anyone who really thinks they're going to be competitive. I mean let's wait and see got jalen whatever. But that's a team that they're not really fun to talk about. Because their free agency considered like stripping you know but i mean they did sign at harris for like nothing which is probably better sightings but what you have in jalen also you serianni. Yes hundred percent but washington in york both very active and did interesting. Things i think are worth discussing because dallas after the dak prescott deal was finally done. They've kind of made a few moves around the margins adding kia neil. Getting tied as kind of swing. Tackle still have question marks at adra sure and coroner but washington like i think they might have had my favorite free agency or at least the one that i'm most excited to see. I don't know payoff on the field. So just to recap. They signed the aforementioned ryan fitzpatrick one year. Ten million dollars. They tag branch eff. Who's there Pro bowler guard. They signed william jackson from the bengals. Cornerback three years. Forty two million dollars and then added panthers wide receiver. Curtis samuel for three years thirty four point five million dollars so just starting like let's start here. Do you agree with me like do you. Do you like what they did. And do you think it makes them an actual competitor in the division. A really like what. Washington did You know. I think among the guys among the quarterback that they could get because not only were they never in it for russell wilson or or wherever really going to be competitive for shawn watson You had to start looking okay. We'll what's realistic. And it's the ryan fitzpatrick coming off his best his career. It's an andy dalton and whereas that really gonna lead you I think that there was a lot of interest in marcus. Mariota he still is not able to sign with another team because the raiders are still holding him hostage But so. I like the quarterback. Move because you're essentially saying let's build up the team the and let's have the strongest team possible around the quarterback position where we don't sell out just because we have to for that position free agency. Maybe they make a move at the draft for a guy that they have their eye on. Or maybe they just say let's. Let's keep the boat floating this year and let's make our move Next free agency. So i thought that they probably overpaid by million or two on curtis samuel. But they wanted him And and ron rivera really likes them. Obviously william jackson an incredible deal You look around and you need another pass rusher and they can they can probably keep ryan kerrigan as a third down specialist if he comes down off his number end so you know he's he's still doing that. He's gonna get paid a whole lot of money. I'm not sure that that money is really out there especially at this point in free agency so they didn't want to mortgage their future for for quarterback right. Now they wanted to keep the boat afloat. I that and so. I like what they have done. Specially on evens. Then when you consider the the sort of offense and the pre-snap that they can have with all those offensive playmakers. Now that curtis annuals there with terry corn. I really like with done.

NFL cuts expected to be a ‘massacre,’ ‘bloodbath’ next week

"We are on the fringe. We're nearing free agency. Actually just read a very interesting to tweet about a nfl coach. Saying that next week was gonna be a bloodbath. with the cap situation Do the covid that it's going to be a very interesting year. A lot of people are going to be getting cut prior to free agency to free up room. So we'll see what happens In you know the free agents were talking about might not even be like the big guys you know we end up signing at the end of the day so one big name we have been talking about and you specifically talked about this guy. Quite a bit is joni From new england the patriots are not going to use the franchise on him again. They can't do it. They they're cap situation would allow forward. I believe but with what you end up making the second time around. It really doesn't make any sense to them. As i was listening to boston. Sports radio their day like they were talking about that. Very topic so loonies. He's a big name. being fans. Love is a big often. Attack was out there And they've got to think about bringing their own guys. Back to william jackson in kara lawson entering free agency. So that's a big big names in some big money right there. What what can really afford to do. So that you you hit the list You hit you hit the big players. They're they have of course two big guys. Internally that are scheduled to be free agents in jackson and lawson one of those may end up getting the franchise tag. Probably the non-exclusive. If i had a bad at this point i'd probably say it's carl lawson and and we don't know the exact figures yet but they'll come out soon what the values will be But it's based position and since deandre get paid a little bit more than corners. Speed deanne tag is going to be a little higher. But i think that's a cost of the bengals are willing to take just to avoid the risk of losing carl. Potentially at an already weakened spot you know masterpass russia's spin has been existent Especially last year And i think room on bengals dot com had a couple of comments today from an article today saying they're looking to shore up the pass rush and he didn't mention actually edge rusher cement of course interior pressure which was good to see liu mentioned and we can talk about some interior linemen. Who are going to be on the market that could provide some interior. Pass rush to collapse the pocket if you will but to your question about what. They can't afford i. There is a way for them to structure these contracts with the amount of space that they have available. Of course we don't know what official cap will be just like we don't know what the tag amounts are going to be. We don't really know the final numbers quite yet. We know the cap can't go below one eighty But let's assume it stays right at that floor. I been under the working on the assumption that it's going to creep up to one eighty five rather optimistically but who knows if it gets that high. Is you mentioned kobe. Kobe tope took all essentially all the local revenues that these teams generated and made it two zero for almost all of them. There are some teams based on the cities and state. They were in that allowed some attendance. That really you know. It was a small percentage of what a normal season would be. So they're sitting in a good spot. Relatively speaking in terms of current cap space. There are about thirty seven million once you account for the almost eleven million. They rolled over last year. So at that point if they just stay there. They're they're currently line to be seventh most in cap space and that's a lot to work with in terms just resigning those guys internally and then going out on the market for tuning type of player ariba some more mid tier guys in the bond bell mold last year. You know a more of a modest deal where you get a lot of value in that regard but if they ended up staying put without making cuts and being seventh and cap space that gives them a lot of flexibility. But i think to your earlier point. We are gonna start seeing a lot more cut. We started seeing some today. There were some report. I think gave jackson the right guard for the raiders is not. There's a report that they they're looking to trade their right tackle trent brown. If they can't find a trade partner they'll likely cut him too. So the market's going to be flooded. It's going to be starting to be flooded. It's going to be even more so and on the bengals and they're likely to make some calm cap cuts. They don't need to make them because they have plenty of room. But just the value is not there to keep some of these guys on the books. You know the names. Bobby heart which will save just under five point nine million. Bj phinney will save three and a quarter million with no dead money and then of course geno atkins. We've talked about the gino situation Pretty at length and the question will be whether they released him. Post june one or or designated or releasing prior to june one or designate him or our releasing post you one which adds a little bit more savings to it but if you cut those three guys even if you don't cut gino with a post june one designation that adds about nine million in addition In additional cap space. So if you had that. Nineteen to thirty seven. Obviously naira almost sixty million and fifty six million give or take And that would baltim- in the top five of capital so they have a lot of flexibility to enter the long-term extensions with both their internal free and to go out on the market and signs of sizeable Upgrades hopefully on the offense line and positions that they they really need to

"If if they let William Jackson get away that they're gonna have to start looking at bit finding another starting corner, a slot corner is definitely On the shopping list and free agency, and then you just start doing in pieces. I don't I'm gonna take a third wide receiver would be out of the question. That guy like Josh Reynolds, who played for Zach in L. A Could be an affordable guy that they could go after they've got money toe to do some things in free agency. I don't think it's going to be a typical year for the Bangles where we just see them sitting on a ticking over leftovers on the third wave of free agency J. Morrison with us from the athletic Once again, you can follow J at J. Morrison a th A. J. If they stay at number five. Overall, they're going to get a great player and I've had discussions with other beat writers about this. I like offense. Other people like defense Man, Do you have a feel for what you think or under an opinion on where they might go in five? Um, I don't. I don't think they know yet because they are so they're still trying to, you know, get caught up from last year and then they were getting to know all the senior Bowl players. Once I got back in the Senior Bowl, they really do have been the free agency. Um, it's it is literally Paul options on the table except for quarterback, But I did a mock draft this week. I've got him taking Jamaar Chase that they stay. Put it five today. Sewell was off off the board on my mock draft. So I had him going with Chase the wide receiver. Um I could see a trade back being in the in the works there to go back. Your You gonna have a lot of teams eager to move up and get a quarterback? And if the Bengals could drop back 34 spots pick up an extra second round pick, and then maybe they could take were Sean Slater, the tackle from Northwestern. I think that's an option. I don't think defense is on the table for the fifth overall pick that if they move back, maybe maybe they grab a starting corner there if they lose, Will Jackson? Yeah, that's some good stuff and definitely agree there because there are a handful of tackles that you can get just a little bit later on, man that'll Wow. Which Amar Chase make, uh job, Earl. Happy. Wow. Yeah. I mean, what was the one hole in his game? This shit the deep ball, and he threw 20 touchdown passes. Jamaar Chase and 2019. Those two had an incredible connection on deep balls. I just Wide receiver may not be their biggest Neary of need right now. But if you could bring that guy in and hooked him up with Joe Burrow, and they re establish that connection and get the deep ball going and you got Tyler Boyd in the slot and got T hurt Higgins Urging is the number one job makes him comes back. This offense could really be something special. Yeah, and to get some guys healthy on defense, you're Yeah, And that's one thing that Marvin Lewis always talked about. Didn't he? Fear of the deep ball man that would have a defensive coordinator up nights worried about that? Yeah, and we've seen the Bangles get burned. On that day they give these He's had some miscommunications in that secondary. They'll be plugging along doing really well, then, all sudden, 40 50 yard ball over the top, and it just it changes everything. You can. You can move the ball. That's one thing. But if you can, if you can have that deep threat, or you can score immediately that just totally changes the game plan for any office and J When Frank Polich got hired back, is the offensive line coach with also the title of run game coordinator. Gosh Joe Mixon, when absolutely not sauna on Twitter loving it. Yeah. I mean, speaking from experience, he worked with Frank and 2018. A Billy Price was thrilled when they branded prank. Polic is a big reason. Billy prices here and I know being with fans aren't aren't Super thrilled with what Billy Price has become, but this is a chance for it's gonna chance for him to kind of rejuvenate his career. And that they all were really excited. Trey Hopkins to all the guys that were here that have experience working under Frank Polich love this higher. And you just have to be. Oh, you have to trust them on this. They worked with the guy day in and day out for a year, and I think they were ready for a change. I think Jim Turner. His military style worn a little thin with with this group, and I think the business is going to be a really good fresh start, not just for the offensive line because it further run game as a whole. "Zac's answer was and you can understand him taking this approach wanted. Unlike making predictions, he said. We certainly have to get a lot better in a lot of areas in Windsor number one. I'm really excited about this off season in the work we're going to put in to make sure our team improves and put all these pieces together. To have a great year. That's our expectation. We had those expectations this year and we had opportunities, so it's on us to make sure we make the most of those opportunities this year. What has to happen in 2021 to view the season as its success? Well, in no particular order? Well, I'll start with the most important job. Burroughs got to be healthy. And then Joe Burrows. Gotta be kept healthy. He's gonna be kept standing up, clean protected, protect the investment. They're gonna have to figure out a way to pressure the quarterback get pressure on the quarterback in some way, shape or form they're going to have to if I can backtrack one. If they're going to do that, with Joe, That's obviously going to be what everybody is viewing the most important factor in the offseason addressing the offensive line in the draft in free agency, perhaps both they're gonna have to take some swings and they can't be swings and misses and free agency. They have to be swings and they have to be extra base hits in free agency. I'm not so sure it doesn't have to. The first one doesn't have to be a home run in free agency, and they're gonna have to take some swings and deliver extra base hits in the draft again. His team won two games two years ago. Four games this year in answering the question what has to happen in 2021? For exact view? The season is a success. If all of those air done all of those must be done, and then success will be a winning season as the first step beyond that, If it's nine or 10 wins, the rest is out of your control in terms of Whether you're gonna make the playoffs or not, But there's a lot of interesting questions inside of all of that, and I hit on someone with J, including William Jackson, third or Carl Lawson. Everybody wants the Bangles to go big and go bold and free agency and they did a year ago for $150 million in free agency, and the results were mixed bag, but they've got to. They've got to figure out how they're going to approach. William Jackson, the third and Carl Lawson. It is a passing league. If it's a passing league to defend that you're gonna have to get pressure on the quarterback and be able to cover and the less pressure on the quarterback. The longer you have to cover. Good luck. If they can't figure out a way. Keep Carl Lawson, you are down to Sam Hubbard. Yikes on a team that already had trouble getting to the quarterback. If you can't keep William Jackson the third you've got Trae Waynes, who? A year ago, They invested three years $42 million in. Unfortunately, he never took a snap because he toward the pectoral pectoral muscle. But you've also got a Darius Phillips and a couple other lesser options. But if it's what are the other and I don't know, Maybe it's Maybe it's one gets signed an extension one gets tagged. I don't know how likely that is because the tag is such a big number with what they're gonna have to get done this offseason, But if you make it one of the other Want Carl Lawson over William Jackson, the third I'll take the guy who can be disruptive. Now. You could argue that Carl Lawson, the switch has to stay flipped and on more often, there will be burst and flashes. And there will be moments where you think he looks so good. You think they'll never be able to afford him in free agency. The guy's a monster. And then there's stretches. Where you say, Where did Carl Lawson go? And yet he's still young. What 25 years old Andre Asses? Muchas it is a cover league. William Jackson the third to me. In his first year you were like, Oh, yeah, Man, The graph the church for this guy. This guy's got a trend up and up it up and just get better. And there were moments in the past couple of years where William Jackson just if he wasn't hurt. He was just kind of He was just there. And you can't just be there you get you gotta make plays. I mean, he's a reputation in Houston was he got his hands on the ball. He batted out a lot of passes. He picked off a lot of passes. He was a playmaker, and he just he hasn't made Don't think he's made the place that you would have thought a first round corner would have made to this point. So if it's one of the other, it's Carl Lawson. You know what else has to take place in order for this season to be successful? Their best players have to play their best. But I go back to what just happened this past season And if you look simply from a Monetary standpoint, a cap standpoint of what they spent. The chunk of the cap it took up. And what they got in return. The classic return on investment mean AJ Green $18 million What did they get out of a J. Green? I think there were four weeks he did not have a catch during the season. Gino Atkins. Next at 14.2 Million. What do they get out of Gino Atkins? Zip zilch. Nata, limited snaps and one pressure. I think one tackle the entire season. DJ reader got hurt the big offseason investment. He'll be back had the thigh injury, but that was 10 Million. They spent Trae Waynes 10 million counted this year. Those air six guys those of the six biggest cap hits and what what production did they get combined out of Green Atkins Reader, Wayne's Heart and Dunlap and you can't win in the NFL. If your best players don't perform their best. Release your highest paid players in theory, your best players because you're devoting that kind of money to him. But you had. You know, Sean Williams didn't play much. His cap. It was around five. You know, John Ross around five million. See Jay Oussama got hurt. He was closer to six million. Joe mixing got hurt, and we didn't hear from him. For what? The final how many games of the season and that was about four million on the cap. Jonah Williams got hurt. I don't want to say again, but but he got hurt, So that's a big stack of talent..

"Curl. Lawson. Stats day. I think he has, too. Yeah. William Jackson. The third go Yeah. Either way, if he stays fine, And if not, I mean, you've invested what 42 million you play NFL money and Trey Wayne. I mean, how can you locate Trae Waynes to be a top 10 corner? William Jackson's gonna want more than trade. Wayne's based on production. Carl Lawson in the NFL Pittsburgh Steeler 71 straight games with at least one or one of your sack. You gotta get after the quarterback. The Bangles haven't done it all year. One would argue. Where's Carl Lawson been the whole season. If that's Carl Lawson against the Pittsburgh Steelers, you gotta have him. William Jackson's on your team. Fine. If William Jackson's on your team being overpaid, I'm not sure that works. They're going to have to cross fingers on somebody like Darius Phillips and others. Opposite of Trae. Waynes has speaking of staying go There will be job offers. They come in all likelihood for Luke fickle and, um Coach Freeman Is there to this point? I don't see anything that would entice enough to jump from this situation. Agree disagree, couldn't agree more. But why? Why would with what you build and what you have coming back and what you have an opportunity for the Peach Bowl. Luke Fickell doesn't have to stress about man. I gotta strike while they aren't talking. We're gonna win five games next year. We're gonna win double digit games. They're gonna be just fine weather out and in a year like this outside of Auburn When you're cutting positions in athletic departments, you're cutting jobs. You're cutting programs in sports teams are gonna want to Auburn him and pay Gus Malzahn $21 million to walk. I think this is a safe year for Luke Fickell in Marcus found. I think that I think Marcus Freeman's the fascinating case here because could he effectively leapfrog his coach? You know, the Illinois gig was out there, and I thought that might make sense. You go from G five coordinator to P five coach Now he's not going to go to Illinois because they hired reputable, but that's the fascinating part because to me, there's a there's a wider array of jobs that I think would make sense for him. Does he take them? And could you see Bring back I mean, think about that. Three straight double digit win seasons. I'm gonna call this season, a double digit win season. I only played nine games, same head coach possibly same defensive coordinator. We'll see what happens with my den Brock. The amount of continuity for this program could be remarkable going into next year. Got about a minute left. Think of what it would mean for you Seize program for perception. The college football playoff. If you see beats Georgia in the Peach Bowl very simple. You beat in SEC team Not only for this year, Look ahead to next year. You're on the road at Indiana. You're on the road at Notre Dame. Be Georgia show that you belong. Bring back much of that same roster. Ah, high rank recruiting class beat Indiana beat Notre Dame. Run that run the table on your conference. You're in the college football player. Yeah. Next year, there's the opportunity. You know. This year they didn't get a chance to play somebody outside of the league. You're going to get a shot to play a team on the road That's in the college football playoff. This year. We'll see what Indiana is next season. But that's a big 10 school. And then the committee will say, Well, you played Miami. Sorry you're on the outside looking in. It's a golden opportunity for for the bear Cats on New Year's Day, I think they have more than a puncher's chance. Um But with the pushback will be well, that game didn't matter. But if you lose the Georgia the pushback, you see the head it right, right. You don't belong in terms of the perception they can. They can take things a long way by by winning that game on New Year's Day, Gentlemen, this is always fun. Have a happy safe. Merry Christmas. Happy holidays and I look at it this way. 2021 could only go up after after what?.

"You think you point out in instance after instance where the protesters and rioters and looters have protested actual historical figures who fought for the cause that supposedly they're championing now highlight a couple of those and then they give me your theory on why those people became targets by that mob yes so I live in Colorado springs moved out here from the east coast twelve years ago and the founder of our great city general William Jackson Palmer at the statue built in his honor downtown he was in general not general he was a Baker who opposed slavery because he thought as a form of organized violence and after he moved here made a huge fortune in the railroad industry he spent untold amounts of money sending it back to Virginia to help fund the establishment of a historically black college Hampton university doesn't matter the statue was defaced with B. L. M. all over it in downtown Denver at the capitol where I was last weekend there's another union soldier memorial that was built in nineteen oh nine and it was defaced and desecrated with swastikas and anti peace slogans you know at night during which we've seen all over the cities across America now this foul folder language and this is happening not just in the United States but also the U. K. there's a former prime minister Earl grey the same girl great at the tea is named after who has a statute that was desecrated presided over the outlawing of slavery in Britain but again it doesn't matter to you that the people who supposedly are standing for black lives matter don't care about black lives in another example that happened after I filed my column there is a tribute to black union soldiers there with a regiment in Boston the fifty fourth regiment statue there again that was desecrated with these anti police racist slogans circle it's not about it's not about standing up for injustices about erasing every vestige of historic America where there it is I think that we should be proud or things that would be we should be ashamed of if you start the radic hating our history how on earth are you supposed to confront we're dealing also with another reality Michelle then I feel like the media has been as big of a an accessory to this crime as the politicians themselves in that I think to date.

Kid-Friendly TV Show Recommendations

"I think it's important to clarify. We're doing these recommendations are for very little kids and everything that we are talking about all of the recommendations on this episode our TV and I think there are parents of very young children and people who give advice to parents have very young children who tend to obsess over screen time and how much screen time a toddler should have look. These are unusual times and the first thing that I want to say before I even start doling out recommendations is just to remember that you're doing the best you can. You're doing fine if you need to put your toddler in front of a TV or a tablet and that is what needs to happen for you to stay sane for you to get your work done then so be it. Your kid is going to be fine. Your kid has you. That's what's important wanted to get that out there. I will also go so far. As to say as a person who obsessed about this didn't obsess about it goes back and forth the important part of the best you can is the you can part so if you are stuck on the fact well. The best is only two hours. It's the best that you can do. Given your circumstances your doing great exactly so. My first recommendation is something that my parents put in front of me. When I was very small child back in the seventies which has been fairly recently rebooted for new generations the electric company. The Electric Company is a educational children's program in the seventies it featured such wonderful luminaries as Rita Moreno. It has an extraordinarily charming kids show. That is really focused on education. But does it in such a warm and inviting and pleasant way so the original seventies electric company you can stream it via Amazon? It does cost money. You can find pretty lengthy excerpts of it on Youtube floating around and you know a lot of us who grew up in the seventies. We'll have you know like individual favorite moments from the electric company. I just remember that that was something that my parents really love to have on and around because though it was geared very very much too little kids and they say online. They say that it's geared toward five to nine but I think you can really go younger than that. My parents didn't go nuts watching it now. They recently rebooted the electric company from two thousand nine to twenty eleven. Those three seasons you can stream for free at PBS DOT ORG and As an incentive for parents who listen to this show and have not checked out the rebooted electric company one of the CAST members is William Jackson Harper. Who Played Chidi on the good place incentive to watch the new electric company Occasional guest spots and occasional music composition from one Lin. Manuel Miranda. I'LL AL. Obviously we could go back and forth. Comparing the quality of the two there is no way to compare something. You were nostalgic for as a child with something that is trying to duplicate that magic but that is a marvelous piece of educational programming. That is still entertaining. And that is right up there with stuff like Mister Rogers neighborhood and sesame street and all sorts of wonderful stuff that you can find on PBS kids. Electric Company is just a gorgeous piece of that puzzle. And I don't think it gets as much recognition as it should get especially compared to some of those other classic pieces of programming love it. Excellent Pack Loved Electric Company Berry. What is your first recommendation? We in our family when my oldest was younger and I was pregnant with my second son. It was really imperative for me to be sitting down lying down pretending that I didn't have a child for like two or three hours a day but I also had already watched so much Daniel Tiger which is wonderful and other. Pbs Kids thing. That probably taught me a lot about parenting but I wanted something that I also really liked from the creators of Wallace and GROMIT. Shaun the sheep which I have so many I mean I literally have photographs of both my husband and my then three year old watching. Shaun the sheep and both laughing at exactly the same amount because it is genuinely funny. It is the first thing that I think our family all liked the same amount where we really all were engaged in it in the same way. I you know you're not pretending to love you know Mom Tiger or whatever you're not pretending to be like Mom Tiger. I'm really actually mom. Tigers really haunted me over the years but I will say that Shaun. The sheep is both adorable in terms of its slapsticky laps. But it also looks gorgeous. So if you're not familiar with Wallace and gromit they created these these beautiful claymation sort of handmade aesthetic from our animations and Wallace and gromit. I also highly recommend but it's more of a sophisticated storyline. What's Great About Shaun? The sheep is that they are sort of snack. -able basically it is a brilliant sheep named Sean and the adventures of him and his farmer and his friends and it is genuinely funny. They're all of these little references. That are incredibly sophisticated without going over the head of your little ones. There's a kind of buster Keaton ask quality to it and I can watch them all the time. I really truly do not get sick of Shaun the sheep and my kids who are now as we said six nine still really love them. It's about that and maybe the British bake off are the only things that the entire family can agree on. If you've missed out on it please go back and watch it and you may find yourself watching it even without your children and where we find it. You can find it in a myriad of places. It is on Amazon prime. It is on Netflix. The Shaun the sheep extended universe of both movies and also the Wallace and gromit from the same animation studio are in many streaming places so if you just search Shaun the sheep you will find a gorgeous claymation that will make you. Giggle is a great pick and man. My kids now are nine thousand nine hundred sixteen and at no point in their lives. Has there been more than like a small handful of things that everyone in the family can enjoy at the same level at the exact same time so when you find one of those the love that you experience as a parent for that piece of entertainment is intense. I feel you on this one in a big way. Very very nice excellent. Pick Berry Hartman Steven. You'RE GONNA give us your second pick and This is not surprise. Me Buddy well. This one is specific to one of my kids particularly my older kid my son. Jona when he was little he obsessed over a cartoon that I watched as a kid called the wacky races and the wacky races were a very short lived. Hanna barbera cartoon aired in late. Nineteen sixty eight and a little bit in early sixty nine and then has kind of lived on in reruns. There's a DVD set that has like the complete collection of the wacky races. Hanna barbera cartoons are pretty primitive. You're talking about children's TV in the late sixties. You have some kind of squeaky gender stuff. There's like one female racer penelope pitstop. Who's like more concerned with her makeup than with racing? It has that name is amazing. Insert pitstop into my middle name. Very pitstop hardiman stuff hardiman The thing is though there's something about the way. This particular cartoon was structured where each episode of the show all of these goofy characters. They were the same characters. The plot couldn't be simpler. They're racing and at the end of each episode. One of the racers wins. There's a bad guy racer named Dick Dastardly. And his side kick Mutley. Who has that famous? Little wheezy laugh and my son who was obsessed with numbers kind of obsessed a certain amount of scorekeeping managed to latch into it. Not only as a piece of like fun cartoony entertainment but kind of latched onto it as like a statistician almost and really got obsessed with it. Even though there were only seventeen episodes he just watched them over and over and over again. Now the wacky races have existed in a couple of different forms. There's a wacky racist game for the we. The kids also played. This is also like electric company is one that got rebooted and it got rebooted a few years ago and once again if you're obsessed with the nineteen sixty eight version you're gonNA watch the version from twenty seventeen or two thousand eighteen and roll your eyes because it's not the exact entertainment that you grew up with but you look at the voice cast on this rebooted wacky races. It's Tom Kenny WHO's TV. Spongebob Jill Talley who's also voiced from. Spongebob she's also from Mister. Show like Tom. Kenny and Billy West. Who was stimpy. He was fry in Futurama. You have some really lovable voice. Cast working with this show. So lucky races isn't necessarily the top of very many people's list as far as like high quality children's programming but it was really important in my house and really had this nice kind of cross generational appeal where I got to feel nostalgia watching it and my kids hooked into it in ways that even I never did

Electric Company Shaun Wallace Amazon Loved Electric Company Berry Tom Kenny Hanna Barbera Mister Rogers Cast Youtube Rita Moreno Buster Keaton Daniel Tiger Netflix Jill Talley Manuel Miranda LIN Berry Hartman Hardiman William Jackson Harper

"To someone there they're alive plus director he green joins us still the system and after William Jackson harbor stars as she the critically acclaimed good place to talk about this analysis to work for all of it weekdays at noon on WNYC this is special coverage of the Senate impeachment trial from NPR news I'm robin young with Ron Elving here in the NPR studios to mac is on Capitol Hill we'll be with him in just a moment run it just your your sense of where we are here we've been hearing hours and hours of the democratic house managers laying their case that the president obstructed Congress few more hours left in the allotted time do you think they will take it all they've been they've been complaints that it's gets a little repetitive what's your sense of what's left there's no indication that they plan to quit a shy of eight full hours today and we don't count the break time so that would pushes into the nine o'clock hour surely and maybe a little bit past the Republicans might get a certain number of popularity points by saying they're only going to take two to three hours tomorrow on their first day of the then of course carry their time over to Monday and Tuesday when they can present the president's case when theoretically more people may be paying attention and would do so on a Saturday and that would make sense as well the Democrats at this juncture have probably said all the substantive things they want to say they have seven managers and they try to divvy up the good moments in the good video and that was a good argument and try to get those people are all a chance to score their point so there may be some more coming tonight I doubt we'll get any bombshells tonight but on the other hand it wouldn't be a bad idea to save a few from prime time well as you say though the Republicans begin their defense tomorrow we're hearing that they may only do about three hours tomorrow and you know so sort of save some of their fire but it seems as if the Democrats are anticipating the directing a much of what they said today to what that defense might be let's listen to a little of representative Jason crow the Democrat from Colorado one defense you may hear is that the aid was held up to allow for a policy review this is what the administration told the GAO at one point but the evidence shows the opposite the evidence shows that the administration didn't conduct a review at any time after the president ordered the whole that run your thoughts on that slap back of what's anticipated it's difficult to do an effective pre bottle because you don't know exactly what is going to be brought as evidence when the president's defense brings up some of these arguments and you don't know how much people are going to remember what you said in pre bottle after they've heard but the president's lawyers say but look you have to let the other team have their innings you have to have the other team bath and give them their chance to score you can't really prevent that before they come up to that so it's it's a it's a tactic it's a way to show that you anticipate what the president's lawyers are going to say and it's a way to show that you're using every bit of your time every way you can as I mentioned to mac is on Capitol Hill I think we just wanna go to you Tim for a second I'm reminded that representative Jim Jordan I mean we do know what some of the threads of the defense are and representative Jim Jordan hammered one out the inquiry which is that speaking of military aid what does it matter because it ultimately went to Ukraine I mean it did went to him so why why is that a problem it went to the country it was not held up of course the Democrats would say it went ultimately to Ukraine because the president was caught with holding it but that reminds me Tim Jim Jordan and others from the house are sort of part of the president's team though not the legal team are you seeing a sense of what they are doing well it's interesting we have heard it parts of the president's defense throughout this entire process with its from Jim Jordan or from the president's lawyers like Jay secolo and they have largely argued the president did nothing wrong that he was not wrong to stop or pause this military aid that he was not wrong to ask for a pro for investigation into the bidens that he was not wrong to condition one for the other and also they're saying that the Ukrainians didn't know about the pause in military aid to begin with I mean that's one major portion of the defense they've got other threads of course but you know the big the bulk of the defense will be on this issue will will be on the narrative the president did nothing wrong and that there was no misconduct here at all to point to well let's listen to a representative call again because he did anticipate that notion that will be a finally went so what's the problem let's listen you see it doesn't matter of extortion last two weeks or two months it's still extortion and Ukraine certainly felt the pressure and run Ellie another thing that we've been hearing from Majority Leader is right actually does go back because the Senate is back in session and his name that look like.

"It's just great. I love ice. That's the dog's name just a great companion ice. Yeah. So that it's because he loves ice and snow and he rolls around in it. And it's just this like sweet Italian family in this tiny tiny town of like fifty people and his dog just comes with him on his fisherman's boat every day, and it's real sweet. So of all the episodes. I've watched so far only two probably won't watch any others. That episode was great. So I watched that. But you know, shits creek is coming back so excited, and I watched the Christmas special, but she watched it too, right? Yes. And yeah, that's what I've been doing a split been watching. What are you watching? I am still watching drag race. I started re watching it. So I'm I'm binging all of that. I also watched bird box watch. No. And I never will. I'm not a scary movie scary. Okay. It's not I you know, me I'm startled by everything around me. And I'm scared all the time. I don't think I did not find it scary. Although I only really paid attention to like the first half. And then I was on my phone for the second hand. But I still got it. It's not it's not scary. It's also not like, I don't know the greatest film in the world's. But you get all the memes. The people are chatting about cool. So that's what I've been watching trying to trying to watch more movies and twenty nineteen. What's your chaser this week? My chaser this week is karaoke because you and I went out with some of my friends from from growing. Up when we were both home in the Chicago land area for Christmas. And I feel like I finally get it. I get how to carry Okie. You were the wise one who said you either sing a song that you know, you're going to like really perform or you sing a song that everyone else is gonna love to sing along with. I always thought that karaoke was just singing the songs, you know, all the words, and that's why I did was not good at it and didn't have fun with it. But now, I feel like I get it. And it's so fun, and I really loved it twenty nineteen I want to go to more karaoke. Great to hear you should go right now. Okay. Great another round of puff the magic dragon. 'cause yeah, I sing that. I mean. Yeah, I'm glad to hear that. Because obviously, I love it. My chaser chaser about the same night. But it's your lovely. Parents got me over you're just doing this for Leon. And your mom who I jokingly called a dead animal. Carcass on the podcasts at one point never forgive. You. There was wine a worse things. I where some the steering Harry monster showed up on a beach somewhere turns out, it was probably just like a severed wail part. But I made some joke about how like the beasts did not respond to calls of berries. Mom. I thought that was safe like your mama joke to make turns out your dad ratted on me, your mom who will never forgive me. So I went over for dinner, and that was was brought up dinner. "Payment for Honda accent in like ninety five a ha-. You know, like that bothers me, you know, like the fact that it would have been like the car that it would have had in high school. Yeah. But it's just a train the doesn't work a lot, you know. And I had a brand new car for the cost of a brand new car in high school. I get a she train. Yeah. You know, and that. Yeah. That's infuriating yet before we have you go. I will ask you one last thing it, which is only for Barry. Producer Barry because you to both go to the same dog park. So I do want to officially ask about your dog, Chico. And what the worst part about being a dog owner is oh, man. Honestly. Okay. I mean, look picking up towards is not a picnic like nobody likes that. But honestly with Chico. He had a severe sort of separation anxiety thing. And that was awful. I it took some months to get through. We basically would just have to like leave the house for like five seconds and comeback yen leave the house for five seconds and come back like ten times and keep doubling the time until he get like an hour. And then, you know, have to two hours, but he would just like scream and cry in, you know, and it was just it was that was truly terrible. That's just now or sad. I'm sorry. Like with a kid. It's like whatever you'll grow up to hate me one day. You know, like, I I can leave you and be fine. But a dog will always love you. Yeah. So it does make the separation harder. Yeah. Yeah. We'd just got known in. You know, I I had to go out for work. And you know, he was just not not having back into it. It reminds me of when I was home in Chicago, my mom, we were leaving the house, and she we were outside. And she said, oh, I forgot to tell the dog. We'll be back and she went back in the house. So she could tell the dog will be back. And I was I was like that seems like a bit much. You know, what's tough, though, we were told we shouldn't do that. We were told that actually like sort of like any sort of contact right before you leave the dog is like, oh, yeah. You're you're showing me with attention. And then you leave. They're like, no, this is abrupt why are you leaving now? And so we're told to like sort of not make eye contact for a little while and just leave in the dog will sort of be like, oh, you know, you know, that, you know, they're not here anymore. And that's okay. Right. You know? Wow. But. It's so tough. Do you know because they look you in the eye. Well, good. I'm glad I've almost ended on a sad note. But we ended on a note that my mother is wrong. And that's how I like it where can people find you on the internet? They can find me at William Jackson harbor on Instagram and on Twitter at at dub, Jack Harper got it. And then maybe they'll even see you at teaching Ted Danson how to flaw. They might see. Offer the best by judge for yourself. Yeah. I you know, he's trying. He's learning. We can follow the journey. Yeah. All right. Well, William tax at Harper. Thank you so much. I'll see you next time. You're almost there. We're almost at the end of the show. But I chase there's chasers. Or the good stuff that helps all the bad stuff. Go down. Barry, let's start off with the TV. We've been watching what you've been watching her. What you've been watching? So I had a pretty ridiculous New Year's Eve not like going out crazy on the town ridiculous. But like, Alex, and I were just at his parents house and sat with putty in between us on the couch while we drank a whole bottle of champagne and watch. Netflix is dogs. Yeah. It was fine. Have you heard it sad? Well, we only watched two episodes, and I like tried to pick the two that wouldn't be sad. So we watched a Costa Rica shelter one which kind of sad and also didn't really have a story. And then we watched one about an Italian, man. Who's a fisherman and owns a family restaurant and his labrador retriever that episode was fire highly recommend that episode..

"But I am, of course, familiar with one particular scene that has become sort of infamous. Yeah, you might know the talking about I think the good place writers have talked about like using the actors talents like Manny, just into he's a break dancer in real life. And they wrote that into the show when did they find out that you are secretly super buff? The the I don't know it was like written in like in the first season. And I was I was like all that's why. And and so like, honestly when I read that episode I was like off. A lot of dudes have that same thought when whenever they read this shirtlessly income in God. And so so, yeah, I don't I don't know where that came from. I mean, I work out. Yeah. Like as a as a dude shirt works out. But I mean, like, I I'm certainly not I never thought of myself as like that jab being my like thing, right? The scene, obviously as shirtless Chidi that has become a thing you've been described as swollen which is the term that. I've apparently you are not you're confused by I'm confused by also. Yeah, I I heard that in in high school, and I'm surprised that it's it's like made it this long. You know, the people used to say swollen up art had us all swollen up. And it was like, you know, everyone just laughed at it. Whenever someone did say in the ha somehow twenty years later is caught on. Yeah. Yeah. But I'm wildly uncomfortable with that term implies it's deeply wrong with me. Yeah. It doesn't it doesn't sound. Like, you're describing like normally shaped human being. No, no it. It sounds like. Someone that caught a disease that means a shot for like several shots. Obviously. There was like a whole lot of write ups about it. A few quotes a few choice quotes, I'll read to your face. This was from vulture he has achieved a level of swollen this that and philosophy circles, you could describe as transcending the classical problem of fitness. I don't even really understand what you want. Transcending. The classical problem of fitness. They were getting into you know, Chidi esque philosophizing that doesn't make any sense at all, you know. I actually have a professor friend who is very soul. Yeah. Super swell. I mean, I remember like we were hanging out, and I will not name them because he's asked me not to do assessment through that. But he is one of those dudes that anytime in season with the shirt off, they audibly gasp. Yeah. As I'd I did I was just like he took his shirt off, and like, you know, came outside. We're all like sitting out by this lake and it was like y'all come on. Stop kidding. That's whenever I'm watching some trashy show, like the bachelor or something, and they're, you know, there's like twenty-five swollen goods in one of them is like, I'm a professor, I'm like, no, you're not a professor of what is of Caen theology of your own body. But hey, I mean more power to them. You don't have to name this person. But you can give me like their Instagram handle after. Now. I'll judge from just like, yeah. You'll just like secretly stalking in. Yeah. Yeah. So I guess where people who who might not watch the good place. Why don't you like let's take a step back and just like who is treaty. Less the rundown. Yeah. GD is a professor of ethics immoral philosophy who died while trying to pick a bar to go to his buddy. He was killed by an air conditioner falling on his head. And he's this wildly indecisive. Morally obsessed sweater vest wearing nerd who who's tasked with drying to rehabilitate Eleanor. "Okay. You agreed to be a better person. Not meet bitch. I could get to continue living my life of depravity. You keep yourself improvement to your goddamn self. Except for me. I will force everybody to be witnessed to my ascension to sainthood. And finally people who just like their resolution is to get a hobby. Why what does that mean? Also, why our hobbies I don't have an explanation of that. Watching TV is our hobby. I would agree. I think that is a hobby, but I don't understand like any hobby. That's not serial killer behavior. Nobody has ever said. Like, here's my hobby. And I haven't been like, oh, so you murder people were living. Like, what are what are name a hobby like woodworking? That's not a hobby having your training to kill someone. Well, it Hoppy. Hobby collecting clocks, let's not a hobby your dad's hobby. Yeah. He's a serial killer. Every fifteen minutes, and my childhood home is just like an orchestra bings and Bong. So this twenty nineteen don't fuck it up by making dumb ass resolutions. Be specific bad pick your goals bench. Take it one month at a time bench. Don't fuck judge people for trying to be better with their lives. Just because you're a piece of shit. That's for this. Steep dive. "Everything that people say without cause I do hate when I talked to either strangers or friends or family, and like they'll say something to me. And immediately be like you're gonna talk about this like on a pod or something where I'm like. I don't want you to think like, I've just immediately judging you. Yeah. I want you to think that like I'm stewing about it. And that I might have Benchley judge you. I also love that you started by saying this year, I'm going to be positive because I hate when people. Hey, baby steps were getting there. I think I'm trying to emphasize the philosophy behind unhappy our more which I to articulate before. But when we talk about like being complaining and like negatively on happy hour. It's always like, no, I I don't hate stuff. Just to be a dick about it. I hate stuff in order to be a positive person. I'm trying to be more positive and more supportive of people. Like when people I know or people, I don't know but follow and like good stuff happens to them. Not immediately jealous. But like celebrate them be cheerleader for other people. Hey, that's great. Except for you. Shut up. So this was a rare positive Ernest start to a deep dive. But this is unhappy our, and we can't be too positive. So let's talk about some of the shit that I hate about resolution season fresh stop people who shame people who show up to the gym and the first couple of weeks of January lock yourselves, you I hate this. John RA of like people being just complete assholes. It's like oh here comes the new year. New me crowd working on themselves on the treadmill? Fuck them, right. Fuck everybody who wants to be a better person, right? They're doing the same exact thing that you are just like at a different time. Like who? What did you come out of the womb with ABS, Chad? No. That'd be scary. New started somewhere dumb. Fuck. That's like all like there are some paintings where Jesus has like an eight pack. Washboard fully infants that's how Mary did her laundry. Yeah. When you're born in a barn. You have to make do you make your baby to sit up until you can wash her shitty sheet underwear on? Next. Here's one we're all shit on anybody who's resolution is this anybody who's resolution is to become YouTube famous. First of all that was mine. That is like the number one goal for everybody under the age of twenty five. Don't don't. Don't first of all I don't need the goddamn competition. Second of all it's not healthy next people who try to change too much. It's like, okay, listen, girl. We all know you woke up on January first in a pile of garbage or like in a dog sped. Don't quit stuff cold Turkey. Either. You know, where cold Turkey comes from the phrase, it's because when Addicks are deprived of whatever they're addicted to they get goosebumps and their skin looks like when you pluck a Turkey out of the refrigerator. That's literally comes around. I didn't just make that up. Wikipedia did earlier fascinating. You know, what I didn't even give them any money. Even though they begged for it. And I never do. And I don't know. Dr font. But yeah, people it's like don't you want to quit coffee. Don't fucking cold Turkey quitting coffee, and then you come into the office acting like a raging asshole. I did do that. But to be fair it was before New Year's unless your heart is on the verge of exploding because of the amount of caffeine you consume don't fucking go cold Turkey, and then be an asshole to everybody. Yeah. That's my biggest complaint about resolutions. It's like don't make it about me..

"Next two identical twin sisters from Australia who claim to be the world's most identical twins, which is not a real thing thing. Basically, they're both currently sharing a boyfriend and they plan to marry him one day. But on a recent Australian morning show program. They announced that their biggest goal is to get impregnated by him at the same time. Please play this scene out for us. So I don't know if their goal is to quite get literally impregnated at the same time or if it's just to become pregnant like an hour after one another right, right? And then if they succeed their children would be both half siblings and cousins who seems like an unnecessary new famille situation. Would they have like the dude twins have the same DNA? Right. I think so the kids would have the same DNA, I guess they wouldn't be. But would they be twins? No. Well, it's also not a guarantee that they'll have twins. Oh, I see what you mean. No. They wouldn't be twins would. Would they guess not because it would be two separate egg? Yeah. This has been science with man. I guess I though they have to get through the hurdle of getting married which was a problem because a stray Elia does not allow polygamy which this would be moving on. A Primatology from Dartmouth was conducting field work in the highlands of Ethiopia. What a beginning. I don't know where this is going when he noticed that July does which is a type of babboons in not an Italian ice cream. Thank you had been leading Ethiopian wolves wander right into the middle of their herds. And rather than eating the delicious, baby. Jellabas the wolves used the protection of the monkeys to high rodents are you with me barely hanging on. Okay. So there's monkeys got it in Ethiopia, and they're letting wolves come that. Would normally eat them. Yeah. Come into their heard and letting them hunt in exchange for not eating them being around the monkeys. Let's the wolves hunt the rats easier 'cause they can sneak up on rat easier. That's the part. I didn't understand things. Yeah. And basically the Primatology are like this was like how primates started domesticating right dogs. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Or this is how the monkey is start to take is what I'm getting why I've including the store. This is some fact up planet of the apes shift. These wolves monkeys are forming alliances and this fucking Primatology. Just is letting it happen. He just watching it with his fucking science. Boehner writing down in his fucking notebook while these monkeys are plotting his murder first step their friends and everyone's eating mice together. And the next stop is mug is are riding wolves right into your fucking house with a gun sign me up. And finally while we were away RIP to Eddie the sea otter did you see this local hero national hero, really international. Global or universal hero. Eddie the Seattle. He was a twenty year old CR from the Oregon zoo. Best known for slam dunking and masturbating. According to a press release at nearly twenty one Eddie was considered one of the oldest and most talented Seattle is on the planet a few years ago. Bay taught him how to slam dunk a basketball as therapy for his arthritic. Elbow joints turns out they just enabled his dexterity even further so he could perform amazing feats of auto Felicia. There's a video you can look this up any the sea otter just deep throat ding his own dish. But I I I thought this headline I saw screen shot of this headline all over Twitter, and it makes it sound like use just jerking it. Right. Yeah. But then I clicked on the story and video of him just like fully throat banging himself like he goes in. This really is worse things. I. Yeah. All right piece. We'd be be angel. The zoo has a bunch of other authors. But I guess a spokesperson confirmed after a video of him surface the theater, not the spokesperson. Yes. That was Eddie who displayed so much confidence in front of zoo. Guess. You could do that show it off so rest in peace legend icon, any the theater may you suck your own dick and heaven Inciarte or heaven floating down the river of eternity and the arms of the angels. And that's it or worse things. I know. That's my New Year's resolution is to burn of your New Year's resolutions. The route. In this week, speak dive. Deep dive, deep dive, deep dive tie. Deep dive, deep dive tidy tidy. All right. Well, it's January twenty nineteen which means it.

"All right worse things. I the worst news other week. A woman in Wisconsin woke up at five AM on New Year's day. And she sees her dog who is a one hundred and thirty pounds, South African mastiff love mass named Benton sleeping softly in bed. For some reason he sleeps in a twin size bed that they keep in their living room. I remember how he was. That's why he has his own twin size bed. I guess it's cheaper than buying a dog bed. Please tell your mom does. I hope your mom listens. To this episode that maybe you can get a larger than at twin size bed at your house. I know I have to sleep at a twin bed. When I go go much like this mastiff. So this massive Benton was sleeping in his bed. This woman wakes up sees him sleeping in his bed next to a whole grown asked, man. And at first she's like, wait is this my son visiting me from out of town unexpectedly. No, then she has a guest of hers who had stayed the night if she knew this person, and she was like, Nope. So there's just a strange man sleeping with her dog. And her dog sped. That's the kind of burglar I want to be. Yeah. Breaking and entering and snuggling. I love this. Because the story that I'm calling from just says so both the women grabbed a knife from the kitchen and called nine one one is a poll ass fucking strange as man was sleeping dogs bed out cold. He didn't even wake up when she took the dog out. She was like Benton get out of Bethany and the man didn't even stir. Eventually they call nine one one the guy woke up he he asked for his glasses. And when he put on his glasses. He looked around and said, oh, yeah. This is not my hat. Do you think the dog was I don't know? What child I guess turns out? Why gotta be straight. Okay. Maybe it wasn't his wife. Maybe it was Harry husband. Ben what? Now it turns out. It was a twenty one year old guy who lived with his mom two doors down and just got the house wrong. I guess was wasted on New Year's Eve. I guess the woman who owned the house said her and her like girlfriend came home. They watched Grey's anatomy until one thirty went to bed. She woke up at five found this guy who had somehow gotten into their house, presumably through like an unlocked patio door. And he was like, I don't know how I guy. The best part is well the woman she didn't press charges. She was like, whatever it happens to all of us. But the best part is she was like, I got the son of a bitch bent in three years ago to protect me. And he didn't make any noise you just let him get into bed. And that's why I respect Benton because he knows when a twenty one year old man wants to get into your bed. You let him gay con bent in the dock. Next a man in Desmond's Iowa. Yeah. Does mind you say it Moina's was arrested on New Year's day after allegedly attacking convenience store clerk with a banana the best weapon that you can use a convenience store is what potassium around three A M on the morning of January first store clerk stepped in. Because there was a domestic disturbance occurring between this man and someone else the new story doesn't elaborate, and then the man turned on the clerk and started chasing him around with a banana hurling merchandise at him who got and then he was eventually arrested and charged because he allegedly caused more than one thousand dollars in damage. That's like the entire convenience store..
