"At the beginning. Because you just come off the incredible ramps game. And then I just ran out of gas. What we were also on one topic show, and they made us go to three forty five. Yes, we did have some extra time. And then there was that whole Sodano our which was like pert purgatory the middle day, we admit show purgatory separation, then everything just went downhill from there. Sounds like your producer really let you down. There is a lot of Greg. There was a lot of Greg talking about how he likes defense. Those guys talking to me about that. And putting me in a tiny little dog. Grinch. I don't like where football is going the future of the game is dark and bleak. Yeah. That's like your thing. You know? I was listening to. I was watching the get up show today, which I think is is really. And I like to get up show. Do you watch it? I've never up that early. You're never say I'd DVR. That's first Good morning. morning. I am up till four in the morning every day based on the look on your face. Not watched every show. I saw a few times when Beato was on. But mostly when they tweet at the cliffs. Yeah. Well, it's not the same since Beatles scam. I mean being show. So but the wanting Greenberg said today, which was smart he said, basically, you know, the NFL has take is trying to take the violence out of the leak now. This year backs. You're not even allowed to fall on a quarterback. Right. You're not allowed to land. With your full way. Guys are actually there's one guy. I think it was William Hayes who's a former ram got hurt trying to not fall on a quarterback the more. You do this the more you protect quarterbacks the more. Strict you are with pass interference like at the beginning of the game Monday night. They were flagging everything that was the all star team of reps. And they basically didn't really didn't work I thought. Well, no it worked enough it worked enough to to allow for a fifty fifty four vet see one game. Well, I mean, it's hard to say they just wanted me. That's what I think. It's the twelfth. Pass interference penalty that Brandin cooks is drawn this year. Like, so many it's not unusual for cooks to get down the field, right drawing penalties. That's what he does know. It is like the third leading receiver in the NFL be caught like half of those. No, he's he's impossible to contain. But the same thing. I mean ran forgotten flagged for for tyreek. But this is this is an interesting conversation. Because like when you talk about the Rams defense is trashed the chiefs defense is trash whatever it is not really because there's a lot of stuff they're doing. Yeah. You have to kind of figure out in the new NFL. Let's talk about that next. Mason in Ireland Momo's here. Bryant Chemnitz ski serious bene- lake. Yeah. The defense you're talking about Branko ski sheer Momo's here day before thanksgiving. We're the only ones here, although Christopher Ellison is here. I heard him on the morning show. He did a heck of a great morning show. You know, what they do a great morning show. Fifty two weeks a year. You know, I leave the host, but the production the reduction the bits. Yes. The best. I think Roz does the morale. Really? Oh, yeah. Take credit Morales. You're you arise. You you. Do the bitch. He's the pit guy. I thought rise is the bid of the day. Back when he used to do that other show the Roz used to the other show. Other show. Everybody's birthday trust me. Morales does the bids. Yeah. It's more that Ron apparently have you credit our morning show. Crisper alice. Actually do here. Thanks to Crystal Palace. The Chris last hour quite a bit. 'cause that's what I'm driving. I hear the seven to nine section of the cargo inside here. Todd cast. Wow. You listen to podcasts that our podcast. Wow. They're fun in the morning morning show guy. Yeah. I used to do a call in. But then it got to be too early. Are we boring you really just want Morales to come on the show? No, no. No. No. No. So you're talking about defense. Everybody's like..

"And the two ones against clay Matthews were really, really awful. And then there was that there was that secondary effect of guys like bruiser and Bruins speaks letting up on quarterbacks and either hurting. Or giving up some sort of touchdown because they were terrified of having that flag go against them. What was the one that against like Oz wiler? That was basically like as the guy went running by tapped his arm, and that was a when you're protecting. Ause that's like. Stars in this league. Brock Osweiler sells tickets tend to watch TV every week. I sure did. Last week said one is passive, like someone passed a very mean note the dolphins like William Hayes tours, ACL China to land on Derek Carr. Yup, that's bad like that should be avoided all costs like that's a pretty sure sign that the rule is not working. Yeah. Yeah. Even Jon Gruden was disappointed because he will. He wanted to destroy car, barely hates all his players and what's got mucking twig with one hundred percent. Gruden grinders. Luckily draft is full of grinders, great guides, people named Logan. Lot of linebackers named Logan. We're gonna get some linebacker's name Logan in here, people with the same first and last name like Lloyd Lloyd yet. That's gotta. That's where you start, right? That's your foundation and then we'll absolutely. Yeah, he's absolutely a trade two first round picks for Christian McCaffrey, starting quarterback. Like this run. From the wing t get back to basics till you what elect this guy's grip. Let's let's say quick break. We'll come back with more of our three of season report. "He was active against victory. So that was really obvious to me. As much as Fitzpatrick who had his first interception in this game, they need him and I think the secondary should bounce back, although we'll talk about in a second, the Bengals offense LA's looked really good to me, but you know, losing William Hayes. Another guy that I thought could hurt them a lot, and I think it clearly did auto branch was hurt in. Yeah, I just think this was a team where a lot of their early season success was unsustainable when you start breaking it down. Right? Like they, I think they led the league interceptions. Okay. For example, things like that. Like the things that are not are likely to regress or not likely to continue the rollout of little metrics like that with this dolphin team that said, I don't think they're terrible, right. As bad as tannahill looked and he was extremely inaccurate. He was getting hassled by a patriots passers. We'll talk about later that was set only hyper affective. I don't think that's the what we saw on Sunday. Ten has been better than that all season against not horrible defenses in. I don't think he's that bad, but I don't think like you look at the team from top to bottom in every unit, and you don't see stars. You don't see something that might be greater than the sum of parts without him gays, but I don't. I don't see many difference makers, I guess, maybe as a way to put it. I'm speaking of cliches here, but so I tend to agree with you might that they're closer? I don't think they're as bad as a team that we saw it destroyed by the patriots, but I certainly don't think there is good. They might be one of the worst three teams in recent history. And I think they're worse than the Bengals who win this game. If I had to choose one of these teams of u. contender playoff contender, and they have see, I would definitely go with Cincinnati right now because they do have a lot of stars. In this offense, which they did lose Tyler. I for it. And when he went out, I felt not only deep sadness for him and everything has gone through injury wise like poor poor guy, right. And you saw that in his face. It was absolutely brutal, but for the next two drives, you saw this Bengals offense suddenly return to the Bengals offense of the last two years. And it made me realize the ways in which Tyler I for really, really opened things up for any doll and who. He is an outlet for him. He draws attention away from degreen hasn't been anyone else. We can do that over the last couple of years at times. So I was concerned. Then they have this game winning drive. In the fourth quarter, you saw Tyler Boyd and Tyler to emerge as that guy and gave me hope that, hey, maybe this Bengals offense, which is look phenomenal for the first week, and a lot of that has to do with Bill laser. A lot of that has to do with an improved offense of line, which I'm sure you have been following closely at. It looks a little bit closer to twenty fifteen line that twenty fifteen with Superstock, but maybe this Bengals offense can continue to perform at this high level. Do you think that's possible without I for, I think so. Tyler Boyd via interesting. One like it's so funny to watch him. Now, finally start to feel comfortable in that role because he was always going to be that sort of do it all guy in the middle. We've seen in the past lineup in the backfield they move them around all over the place. He was a kid went to pit and I remember my my rookie off season training camp Ston with the Steelers..

"We gotta keep seeing sim back and watching the seeing how it plays out because we know we will have a clue right now. We're just trying to follow the rules and go along and keep playing a game. Right, right. I, I want this. I want your take as offensive player. I think this is interesting. We just saw William Hayes, tears, ACL this week, trying to avoid a flag on a sack from hitting a quarterback. Do you think it's fair to say the NFL seems to be placing more priority on quarterback health and the health of other positions? Oh. There are there. I think they are making more emphasis on every physician, particularly, you know, sometimes as a quarterback, he was sitting back there. Why guys running that him run them full speed. You know what I'm saying? So yeah, but then at the end of the day, I mean, you can't take take take that away from football. I mean, they got to play quarterback. I, it's, it's, it's, it's twenty twenty one other positions on the field. But he chose to play quarterback. So he knew the risks and just like we, we know the risks in tackling. Like injuries can happen. Things happen, you know, say. We were learning how to the proper way to tackle. But like I say, I got any game in this bullets flying, and and then all of a sudden you just got to go full speed and make a tackle in the split second. I mean, you gotta go for what you know. And I'm pretty sure that they're going to. They're gonna keep. They gonna keep finding ways to help make the game safer and just got a just go with the punches. So let's get back to you. Like I said on the i. r. right now, have you had a chance to talk with the team at all about plants moving forward for you? The season. No, I haven't. I've just been taking one day at a time. Whatever happens happens on this is going to go with the plants. So do you have any idea if it's going to be Colin or Rashawn filling in while you're out. I have no clue being meeting some, but other than trying to, you know, make sure I'm healthy. Any other situations come up? I just do with it as they come. But as far as like any other thing, I'm just trying to focus get healthy. Fair enough. Let's let's talk about Rashawn a little bit. What have you seen from them? Fairly high, pick this year house? He's looked. I pretty good. He's gotta get more. I think. As more of the season goes on, he'd get more confident in yourself. Saint thing we would not say Johnson was allowed to play so fast. So before a good performer right now is the fact that he doesn't have to worry about two minutes. He's out there. He knows he's out there with a whole bunch of it so he doesn't have to do is name really. But his, you know, saying, he doesn't have to do his job and trying to figure out what does man next to them door. He's you'll scientists positions just focus on on Bank because there's a lot of a lot of the guys played as a rookie Salau gas plate now about what you're you're in in the field. But especially for rookie TIMMY said they get acclimated Justice. So it mean and what was shot. And he's sitting beside like older guys as far as like me and Mike Adams around college. So he's learning, he's going and he's gonna go out there and just play to the best is Billy. I have all the faith of faith in them as well as the coaches entertain by the west. They wouldn't have brought up here. So I believe go out there and he said something interesting..

"Well, and you know, he wants to get a lead for this defense so that they can do what they do well, which is pass rush and you know, he's done that and he's, you know, his attitude and you can tell he's, he missed it. You know, being gone for that year. He he loves being out there. He competes shrink heart and games. He's he's fearless in the pocket, and sometimes to fearless will on the move. But you know, that's that's my biggest complaint. I can live with that one. Adam gays dolphins, head coach here on the rich Eisen show and you've worked with quarterbacks. Absolutely. Everywhere you've been and you just gave voice to the value of Ryan tannehill the value that this franchise places isn't him. So it's interesting that when this day and age where we're seeing more and more roughing, the passer calls than ever before based on the new emphasis on a rule about placing bodyweight onto a quarterback that it appears. You are the first head coach in the NFL to have a player blow out his knee attempting to not put a body weight on top of a coach and William Hayes. I wonder. What goes through your mind when you see that coach? I didn't know it at the time we, we really didn't know it was. It was very odd way that he came down and at first I I don't think anybody thought was thinking ACL and you know, when we finally got them are I and all that stuff back and found out about it, that was that was that was heartbreaking for us. 'cause he's one of our leaders. He's he's one of those guys that does all the dirty work and does look for the any kind of glory or appraise he just he does he quietly and guys respect him and he, he was really one, you know, probably our main, you know, run stopper and he has been since he's been here and he brings it brought an element to to our defense that you know, we'll miss and you know, we're gonna have to have the next man up and tally which everybody knows. But still it's still hard to hard to swallow losing, go like that. Well, in the manner in. Which you lost him though. Do you think this rule is needs to be changed on the spot? It seems like everybody's gonna start getting together in the competition committee to discuss it. Would you be up for this rule being changed, at least in terms of the emphasis. It hard for. It's hard for me to say one way or the other rich. 'cause I don't wanna I don't. I don't know all the everything that's happened. You know, when you when you're in the most season, you don't really. You don't see everything and you don't hear everything. 'cause you're kind of kinda in the bomb shelter almost, you know. So you know, I just I know it's unfortunate. What happened? Our guy really, really staying didn't really realize what he was trying to do happen when when I found out afterwards, that was that was frustrating for me to hear. I appreciate that he was trying to do the right thing and in, you know, play by the rules and I just hate moving a guy like that over something that you know probably could have been aborted. What if I paid, you're fine coach, what if I paid your fun? Nam. Good. I don't need to. I don't know. I don't know. I'm not looking to anger. Anybody frustrating that that happened when it's when the guy that's that's key. Your defense. You know, and we lost the guys that they're not game. So that was it's just it's tough one, two regional, glad you didn't accept it. I really wasn't willing to do that to understand. You You know. know, just throwing that out there before I let you go Frank gore, what? What? What in the world is he brought here? He is unbelievable. This guy to me deserves jacket one day. That's gold. I think he is going to get it. You've got a, you've got a dynamic kid in Kenyan Drake, but it seems that Franks getting the ball a lot so far coach, what does he brought to your team. I've always been a fan of using multiple running backs and it's a long season. And the way that we use Kenyon is is a little different than a lot of teams are able to use running backs because he is he's unique and you know if it was up to him, he'd be playing special teams to, and we obviously can't afford that because of the value that he brings with with our offense..

"So let me try to not land on him. I think until they. Change. The rule coaches need to be teaching these guys and they need to be running drills where you know you've got that that tackling dummy that's robotic and it and it rolls around and you can. You know you can make it move. I think they need to get these guys to to learn how to hit a quarterback, kind of from the side and get him down that way instead of smashing them, that's what the NFL. And I think even if they changed the rules, they're not going to change that aspect of a body weight because that's how you you enhance the risk of injury. So yeah, and between Barrett car, getting injured and William Hayes, getting injured the NFL is gonna take a William Hayes, getting injured one hundred out of all hundred times. Hey, Mike, how does it work logistically if they do want to tell officials not to do it. Dan hinted at maybe the officials in the league weren't totally on the same page with this rule in the officials, recalling a little tighter than the league may wanted, does Al river on just sort of make a phone call and said videos and the officials act on it, or is there more to it? But I mean, here's what happened in McCauley who's now the Sunday night football who'll say less people. Doing NFL referee back in may when they together and they played the video and they told them how they want these. These roughing, the passer calls to be made, and he got the impression that the referees, we're gonna, have a lot of discretion to either call it or not call it. And you know what happens is when there's a call like the one we saw last week claim that you sit hit on Kirk cousins that allowed the Vikings to force overtime. I don't think the NFL really believed in that one as much as the NFL believed in the claim Matthews foul this past week when he landed on top of Alex Smith. You know, I think I think that that they're not going to publicly criticize referee for Pauling roughing the passer, but I think that they're going to defer to their discretion if they call it and that's gonna be the challenge because the imperial time without the benefit of replay and you, you may have bodies in the way between the referee and the quarterback and the guy who's sitting quarterback, how do you, how do you have a clear bright line? This is roughing the passer. This isn't roughing the passer, and I think that's always it'd be my floor of purple talking NBC sports during us. Now not what you think is going to happen, but if you were cutter the coach of the buccaneers, how would you handle the quarterback situation in the current time? Like right now and going forward. Without question, you have to go with Ryan Fitzpatrick this weekend against the Chicago Bears Jameis. Winston just returned yesterday from a three game suspension and in those three games and I still can't like my brain wants to reject this like a body rejecting transplanted organ that Ryan with is the first player in NFL history to have three straight four hundred yard passing games. Like, wait a minute. Surely Dan Marino did this Shirley. Dan Fouts to destroy early drew. Brees is done this five times, but no, Ryan Fitzpatrick is the first guy to do it. You can't put him on the bench. The way he's been playing. The real question comes after the Chicago game, they have a by. Then they play the falcons. How does Fitspatrick play on Sunday? When do you flip from Patrick back to Winston, and that's gonna be the challenge because you know if it's Patrick has a rough game like he had that rough first-half on Monday night. When do you say it's Winston? It reminds me a lot of last year when the Vikings were holding teddy Bridgewater case keenum for the second half of the season, and it just felt like. He was one mistake away from Bridgewater coming in. When do you do that? Because once you do it and you're kinda stuck, right, you can't flip back. So I, I think it's going to be a real challenge for cutter to figure out the right time to make a change. One of the stores I don't think.

"I didn't like it, but I kinda got it just because the ball is away and it just it's claim that he should. He should've known not to hold up their hold up. Yeah, and I think that he almost admitted after the game like that was not great. Luckily they want, so it didn't matter as much the next two. And specifically the third one was just absurd like, yeah, perfect tackle. I mean, it's literally a perfect tackle. I I really don't see at all what the call was. I know that they call the body weight thing, but you know, there's no way physics wise for him to make that hit and not, you know, not tackle them, and then we saw the injury that resulted in tornado yell. Yeah, William Hayes. Thank you. Yeah. And so you know, that's really what it would have taken for Matthews did not make that play. So I that call to me, I think is gonna end up being the tipping point. This whole thing is that that was as. -olutely absurd. Yeah, I think it was, I think, will Blackmon said on Twitter that it seems like the NFL is much more concerned with the health of the quarterbacks than any other position. Oh, yeah. I mean, that's definitely the case. I, you know, they call it the Rogers rule because of the the hit that he took from Anthony Barr last year. But these are nothing like that. I mean, they are. They're extrapolating, those hits are like just any hit the quarterback from that, and I just don't get it like I really, I don't wanna go down this road too much. 'cause I just think it's so frustrating and no one knew anything about it, but it's really been a huge, you know, black eye on this season, I think, yeah, we're getting dangerously close to playing two hand touch for the quarterback, but only for the quarterback, but don't quarterback exactly and only only in certain situations when he's inside the pocket and and with the ability to throw the football, you know? Yeah, she's such so dumb. The. Yeah, I agree. I thought my Florio's Mike Florio very interesting thought which was to treat quarterbacks like prompters literally. So I mean, one of my friends actually brought up the interesting idea of like, what, what do you do about pump fakes on. But other than that, like it really is like a punter just treat 'em Lega punter to second. He gets rid of the ball. You know he's gotta be basically untouched because you deem to be too vulnerable after the throwing motion. But again, what do you do pump fakes and we'll see that man. Can they because that's seems like a fundamental flaw in this. Right? Right. And honestly, that Matthews it, he's still, you know, he's still got the ball on that plan on how that goes. So and even Alex Smith after they gained by the way goes, yeah, that's just a football play. So I don't know. It's it's a such a just an awful awful thing to have cloud. What's been a really fun start to the season? I think it's interesting when the quarterback. Are the guys saying it's bad call? Yeah, exactly. Rothlisberger said the same thing this week. You're not playing football anymore, and it's it's kind of a masculine to the quarterbacks to, oh, absolutely. No longer real football players. You're a demure little fella and you need to be protected. Yeah. And now it's, that's well that it is. It's like you are now, you know, punters and kickers obviously get made fun of as we saw with Greg Williams in hard knocks. But part of that is is because of these hips that they're not allowed to take. They're not real football players in the minds of coaches and players are other players. And so you know, when you get to that point where you're making those calls on the quarterback, that's where we're at. Agreed. It's, it's an unfortunate situation. It's just you're right. We're headed down such a dangerous path and the NFL and I don't think anybody really knows how to deal with it, but we're going to move on..

"Then you heard on TV because everybody is so tired of the flags. I forget which player was, but on the bucks who came by was reaching for Ross burger and hit him on the head, and that's cut and dry. Able to do that in years. Rothlisberger was like, oh, yeah, no, you can't do that. And he's like, it doesn't look like much on TV, but these guys are so strong when you slap somebody across the top of the head that can give him a concussion, like they've been trying to get that out for years. And then you look at the the next ones. It's the one where you did he roll over on them. Did he put his weight on him? He's supposed to pull back. What do you do? Here's the Jerry Jones was on one, oh five, three, the fan in Dallas a fan everywhere. There is every town has a fan. He says, the way I see our future is I see a real serious emphasis on youth football, amateur, football. I see it reflected the high school level. I see a collegiate game that certainly has a lot of finesse in it, but is great game and makes these kinds of adjustments were talking about, but when it comes to pro football to use a boxing term, that's when you put the six ounce gloves on. That's when you don't wanna fight with those ten ounce gloves. You don't wanna fight with that headgear. You're. A lot of money to go out and incur these type of situations that have more risks in them Jerry's basically saying, look, I understand player safety in highschool youth ball collegiate, but this is big boy, football, and this isn't the paying these people a lot of money so they can beat each other up and you know, engage in all the violence. Yep. It's just all under the context of the head trauma though that in. So it's it's hard for me to go to hard on any rule when that is the bigger purpose goal. It's not perfect, but it's also to it's messy. What makes a lot of this frustrating is there's so much that gets discussed with all this that you know gets presented as player safety, but the league has so many different contradictory things like Thursday night football that make it clear. They don't care about here on the optics or in this case with protecting quarterbacks, it's because they are an offense driven product, right? And they know the quarterback's drive that offense and there's there are very few people on this planet who can be a good NFL quarterback. So there's a hierarchy in terms of the people there protecting with player safety. And if you look at William Hayes of the dolphins, he tried to bring down a quarterback. I'm trying to cool the dolphins plan on Sunday. He tried to bring down the quarterback and appeared patriots took a half step to try to brace. Self. He's trying to slide off the body essentially of the quarterback. So he wouldn't look like he was driving a mini tours AC tours ACL. So they care about the safety of quarterbacks. Nobody necessarily cares about the William Hayes is of the world. It's really just protecting the quarterback, who is the face of the French offense of defensive lineman do is give each other concussions, banging heads. I mean all the time. All right. I'm gonna leave. You guys pick up the ball and run with it. This is not show canvas up. You guys take it out ESPN LA. Yeah. So Donald show, cabinets, brothers, and might Trudell in for George who still with his family after the birth of your little Keyshawn we call him. Yes. It was. It was it went down to the wire too. "They're completely they can do anything. It doesn't matter. But I think you got. To give people the game they want, and the game is violent, and that's the game that people wanna see yet give the people what they want get, even though they're not doing that right now, you'll be you'll be amongst the first in line to walk into the Coliseum on Thursday. Yeah, I'm a season ticket holder, correct? That doesn't matter. I mean, that doesn't change my view of the Rams. I love the rain there to root for him. Correct. So it doesn't matter what they do. Well, no, this is I think this is more likely to affect TV viewing. It's bad football. I still watch soft gap still going to watch. Yeah, I think you're still going to watch and I think you're still going to go to the games. I don't think any bitch about him because they're not well officiated. Right. I think that's what they want. I think they weren't. They want people complaining about 'bout safety. That safety shoes they want are because the number one thing that they wake up in the morning is, are we doing enough to keep the player safe? So if your complaining that they're soft and they're being overly protective, that's what they wanna hear. Yeah, I'm, I'm gonna now that they're hearing it. I think they're going to spend it back the other way. I'm gonna re tweet right now. The William Hayes play. You can take a look at it. I think they care this. This Cameron Woolf this reporter, here's a video William Hayes, tearing his ACL. If you look at his last two steps at does look like he shortens his last rites slam Hayes by the way, former ram and tries to rollover car instead of landing firmly on him. And that is the play where he tours ACL in the end. They don't care about the William Hayes is the world they care about the Aaron Rodgers of the world, correct. And so how much are do they really care about safety? What you're talking about? They care about the safety of quarterbacks. I don't care about anybody else's saying quarterbacks most highest paid player in the field, right? So don't say it's about player safety. It's about money period. You could make that argument, but they, they're, they're going to say, when people come at them, look, you're not doing everything you can to make the game safe. They'll say, what are you talking about in his teammates in Los Angeles? He says, we're soft. They can't make the game safe. It's not. It's not. You can't childproof this game, right? It's a tough violent game. Yeah, but they're going to tell you that they can. They're not gonna buy your premise. I have not bought any of their premises for the last five years. And yet you watch every week Ray rice on. I've not bought their premises and you're in the ratings go down, but your giant NFL fan you down to watch, but that doesn't make me happy. Rice doesn't make me happy. This doesn't make a lot of places happy. Right. Rothlisburger last night said that one was not really writing the quarterback they get when they'll get worried is when you say you won't watch. When you can just watch the ratings drift? Yeah, that's when they get the ratings are down seventeen percent over two years. That's not an accident. I s PIN Mesa in Ireland. So the dodgers come up with a victory last night, seven, four in Arizona. The Rockies win as well, which means the lead is still a game and a half in the National League West. It looks like both teams are going to make the playoffs. It looks like the Rockies because the cardinals finished with the cubs and the brewers, and they're paying plan for everything. It looks like the cardinals will be the odd team out, and I think the Rockies are going to make it as the wildcard. Let me ask you something because we were talking about this off the air, but then I noticed Jon Weisman, from dodger thoughts wrote a whole column on it. Okay. Brian dosier. His most recent homerun was four weeks ago, August twenty. Eighth..

"They they're inoculate inoculated. No, what's the word I'm looking for inoculated against any future litigation because it's well advertised. Football basically comes with a warning leap. I don't think it's litigation they're worried about. I think I went to a high school game last Friday night. They're not getting kids come out for football anymore. They're all the the parents aren't letting them play. So the NFL has to at least give the appearance of doing everything they can to make the game safe. Part of the NFL will never run out of players. There will always be players probably probably. Probably in some parts of the country you're saying, did nobody show up at the practice video turn into turn out their way down for football across the board, particularly on the freshman and sophomore teams in which you. So what you have now is a lot of talented, freshmen and sophomores, who would have spent their years working their way up or being put in the varsity because they need the bodies. And I, I just think that that football has to say, look, we're doing everything we can to make the game safer. All these calls, I think, secretly on Park Avenue every time. One of these like a guy like you goes off like you just didn't says it's ruining the game. It's an his, they smile. They think this is the reaction we want. Why do they want that? Why do they they want? They went bad football. They want to debate what are they doing everything to keep the game safe. That's no, what are they doing? Everything to keep the quarterback safe, right? Because I saw William Hayes attempt to. Make the correct trying to figure out how to bring a guy down. I forget who the quarterback was William Hayes of the dolphins and he tore his ACL because he was trying to figure out how to tackle the question. There's a chief sky that that is saying Jimmy Garoppolo only himself to blame for blowing out his ACL because he didn't run out of bounds. I'm not so sure. Garoppolo tors ACL on that push when he got pushed. Most people are now saying that was a non cont non. Have you seen the video, the chiefs guy? Yeah. Yeah. I saw him give him a shot, but have you seen the video the cheesecake after the game who said, oh yes, the rock blues fall that guy's just lost. Yeah, that guy just doesn't know what he's trying. But the William Hayes one I think is definitely real. I think William Hayes. I think William Hayes does not tear his ACL if the normal football generally agreed upon football rules exist. I just I, the NFL gets everything wrong. They get everything wrong except the bottom line. See the most popular sport in the world popular most..

"A call like this might affect a win loss like it did in week two between the Vikings and the Packers or in the case of William Hayes. I've got Adam gates on tomorrow show where a player gets hurt, trying to avoid putting body weight on a quarterback. At this moment that they are willing to wait for next week, don't forget. There's also internal communication among the officials with the officiating office so they can do something informal without making a formal public statement. And you know, I'm sure those conversations go on constantly. But as of right now this afternoon, it seems like they are willing to wait. But look, it's early in an NFL week Tuesday afternoon early in an NFL week. So certainly stuff can happen between now and Sunday, Judy. Thanks Dench the call chat soon. My pleasure. That's Judy Batiste of the NFL network NFL media group. Okay. That's the latest on on the red hot button, subject of of the roughing, the passer call in the NFL. What else do you have over there? A couple of coaching nuggets. Jerry Jones said Jason Garrett will not take over play calling duties from offense of coordinators, Scott Lenihan, of course, Cowboys fans kinda up in arms with there. What their situation as an offense, their thirtieth and total yards per game right now to seventy eight and second to last thirty first and total points. They've only scored forty one in three games, but no move as of yet management manner reporting that Todd Bowles is making a significant change after last week's loss to the Browns. He is going to take back some of the play calling duties on defense from defensive coordinator. Casey Rogers, some of the play calling to some of the pike. I don't know if that's first and second down third down. Well, how about this? When when a rookie rookie quarterback makes his first appearance in an NFL game just or do better. Don't just don't just play the role of Washington generals in narrative. The whole country is watching play out for globetrotter like Baker Mayfield couple of Vikings stories. They play, of course, Thursday night out here in Los Angeles. Mike Zimmer said, possibility. The Dow and cook will play, but he looks if he with a hamstring injury and a weird situation going on with Everson Griffen he is dealing with mental health issues. Interesting. Team said glimmer, it's about him getting better quote in the five years I've been here, I've always loved him. Looks like Griffin is poised to miss a few games as he's dealing with, and we personal always talk about mental health issues on this show. And for good reason, these are no joke, just because you don't. You have something keeping you out of a game that doesn't involve a cast in MRI doesn't make it any less serious while I hope whatever Everson Griffen is going through right now. Gets he gets through it. Splitter. Wow. Some more from NBA media day out here in Los Angeles. We attended Lakers media day will Brown. James met the media for the first time in his purple and gold. And I was asked, obviously a bevy of questions. Couple of sound bites. We're going to play here basketball and business. Why did he come to us Angeles? How much your decision was based on the Lakers in how much the business opportunities, Los Angeles in how do you balance those two. Montezuma was based solely on my family in the Lakers. So you know, as far as my biz those names have been taking care of herself away before I even came here. So to be a part of the Lakers franchise. "Made made made made. Oh, right. And welcome back to the GMC football podcast. So far today, Jeff, and I have recapped that Sunday night game spent a lot of it talking about the patriots spent that second third segment talking about the other games from Sunday also got Tim tebow in here, didn't think we'd be talking Tibo, but nonetheless weeded. And then for this fourth segment, we will be proving the Monday night game along with talking about, I guess, the softness of the NFL. I think that's more headed. Absolutely the softness. So I'm assuming when you brought it up, start to show you saw clay Matthews house. That was that was the cleanest tackle you would ever see it's bad when you have Alex Smith, who is saying the man who got hit? Yeah, now was nothing wrong with that. Hit the football play football. You have to hit them. It's I'm not going to touch football after this season. I don't really don't feel bad for players. That's one where I feel bad for claim out. If you tell you could tell he was trying to have a right way most classic tackle. That's like we learn pee-wee's. Yeah, literally trying to do it the right way. I mean when he's bringing him down, his hands are in the air like, look, I'm not letting my body white. I'm not doing anything. I'm just trying to do it the right way. And then you see the throw. Decision, and if he doesn't make the right one, which is laid back on those roughing passer penalties, then there's going to be huge. I think there might be a strike and that's and I don't know if it's also about pay, but a big part of it. It's going to be this kind of these unnecessary roughness roles that are absolutely ridiculous other, we will get a strike, but that'll be in a couple of years as done. Richard Sherman talked about a strike, and I think that's going to happen. So we'll get a nice little lockout be ready for that. I to the dose of loses job, but whatever. I mean. They're not going to change the rule because quarterbacks are their bread and butter. I'd say end you don't sorry to interrupt, but they don't give. They don't give anything about their other players like the other team. And because I guy in dolphins toys, ACL try not to get an unnecessary roughness penalty. So he's putting other players I risk. Yeah. I mean, you're right. It's all on Roger Goodell that injuries all in Roger Goodell and Jeb Tanti William Hayes injury. I mean, yeah, we'll Hayes or not. He said, but Adam gates, the head coach and some of the players. So yeah, it was just trying to avoid putting his body weight. We blew his knee up and I get what you're saying. Everything you're saying is right. But Roger Goodell the NFL Roger Goodell knows the NFL. First and foremost is a business, and that's how it's going to be ran quarterbacks, bring the money in. It's not right. But like I said, I don't think I think that's why nice necessarily true. I think characters bring the money in like guys with charisma. Like, okay. Thirds going to bring the money in. That you're right about, but Manning's not gonna, bring the money in. I don't care what anyone says. Yeah, you're right. Paint being many was great and also funny in also like charismatic. And that's why he's still in commercials to this day. And Tom in Aaron Rodgers has like he has that nice personality as well. You know what you're right. I'm not gonna argue. I think it's just from a Roger Goodell from his standpoint, what he thinks they believe he is wrong, but I do too. Yeah, he's I'm not a big Roger Goodell fine either. No one is. Yeah. I'm so happy when he gets booed at the NFL draft. It's like it's like you. They're not doing just because you the Commissioner there blame because you've made decisions..

"So I feel like you're simplifying a little bit more that I'm willing to go to fits because you're correct that quarterbacks need to be protected adequately because they do move the needle more than any other position in sports. We saw what happened with Jimmy Garoppolo in San Francisco yesterday, and it feels like a season has gone by the wayside for the forty Niners however, doesn't it feel like there is a spot somewhere between quarterbacks need to be protected adequately and quarterbacks need to be protected more than a breathing on them is a penalty call, right? I mean, it just feels like we have gone from one side of the spectrum or maybe not even one side of the spectrum, but we have eliminated the middle area, the middle ground where quarterbacks and be protected while players can still. Concede is a violent football game. Okay. And that's a fair point. I understand that realistically we want we want players to be able to go out and play. We want clay Matthews to be able to go out and just to clear out these does, and I understand the frustration in seeing these calls. I mean, when you're watching the game and you watch guy land on the number one answer, is will what's he supposed to do off of him? In realistically, the green example of that is yesterday William Hayes for the dolphins rolls off of their car as he sacking him and alternately tears his knee up. So he's going to be gone for the season. And there's this perception that that the league is so worried about quarterbacks that they're willing to put other guys health at risk. But realistically, how many dolphins fans today are going to step up and say, hey, our seasons completely over just because William Hayes has gone versus I dunno hill being gone realistically to the point of what matters to the NFL. If you lose your your starting quarterback, what you've lost in this process is foremost teams the hope for the season. You've also lost the guy that's on the billboard. You've lost the guy. That gets the most money, the guy that sells the most jerseys, the guy that puts butts in the seats, the guy that sells cotton candy to little kids that come to the stadium. I mean, that's the power of the brand of a quarterback. And realistically we put so much emphasis on either you have that brand or you don't have that brand every year draft time because we understand the importance there is more importance to the brand of a quarterback than there will ever be to the brand of defensive tackle or defensive end, so they will be valued more. That's just the way the world works. You like an NFL owner right now talking about the bottom line so much like doesn't there have to be some other considerations here, right? I mean, we'll we'll but field. If the other consideration is safety, you're actually trying to make the game safer for your quarterback while you're slaves. Don't you do you feel truly is if the NFL has not gone too far with these quarterback rules like you are okay with the penalty that was called with Klay Matthew bike on clay Matthews yesterday and heck the one before that as well. You're okay with it? No, I don't love it. Look, you gotta make arguments somewhere between. I think we both agree there is an in-between area, and I understand that all NFL rules are difficult to legislate. I'm not naive to that fact. I just feel as though the NFL has taken this so far so far that all of a sudden the game feels like it's being it's going to have to be played differently for NFL players. And the result might be that a guy like William Hayes, tears ACO's over the year, I get it these not Ryan tannehill for the dolphins, but he's an important defensive lineman. They traded for this off season. He's a guy that has been in the NFL for awhile. He's important. He's played a part in their three, no start well, and obviously he's an important piece, but he's, he's just not. He's not a quarterback can look at the Texans. They can lose JJ watt at his peak and they can still be. Additive. If they lose their starting quarterback, they lose to Shawn Watson, what? What's their season? Can it be?.
