"I mean, I remember at the trade deadline last year, we were in San Diego. And the Padres, you know, it just got in Han Soto and Josh Bowen. Every other big name you can think of at the time and they were already talking about all the players they were going to be sign and all the money they were going to spend. And I remember asking Bill Schmidt's rockies GM, are you see the way your competition is building your teams? Does it make you kind of rethink the way you're doing it? To be competitive earlier and to be able to compete with this really tough decision. And his exact quote was something along the lines of like, we can't keep up with the Joneses. So we're just going to keep doing what we can do. So they think it's what they do well. It's not that they don't spend money. It's a thing though. I mean, they're paywall is pretty high. But they just don't spend it wisely. And they just think that the tractor on if they can, you know, sign one big name by Chris Bryant and then their prospects come up that NATO all work out, but the thing with prospects is they're not proven players and a lot of times they don't work out and that's exactly how they found himself in a situation where they don't have that starting pitching depth right now because an entire generation of starting pictures just did not work out for them. And they didn't sign anybody to kind of fill that hole. Yeah, we had a listener email a while back and the listener was just suggesting maybe we're thinking about the rockies all wrong. We're just evaluating them in terms of are they going to win and are they doing the things that other teams are doing? And maybe they're just sort of playing an entirely different game. Maybe they just kind of want to have fun and keep their guys around that they like. Gilbert will keep data part around. We're not going to trade Daniel party. It's just maybe it's like a completely different objective, except it certainly seems like they would like to win like they would maybe like to win the division for once in their existence. So I don't know that they're just there to kind of like be a good hang even if that is kind of the case for a lot of the fans who are coming out to see them. I think that they think that they are competitive. So I think that goes back to the whole thing where they think that they are better than they are. And maybe they need that outside voice to come out and be really realistic with them and be like no you are not. Or it's okay. Like let's just the brackets can just bop around at the bottom of the leak for their entire existence because that's kind of what they've been doing anyways. Well, we always end these previews by asking one last question, which is basically what would constitute a successful season for this team or how do we gauge at the end of it, whether it went well relative to expectations, I suppose. So other than, well, if the rockies get their wish and this is a 500 team, which if that's the highest you can aim, I guess that's kind of depressing although we would make fun of them if they said they were aiming any higher. So at least they have practice of restraint when it came to their own predictions. But for you or for Iraqi's fans, how should they evaluate whether this season represents progress? I think I'm looking at a couple of things. I'm looking at the Marquess, get back on track and does he have a few more good years left in him. I'm looking at some of these younger cross box. Is equal to our exact mean. Are they as good as the rockies have been saying they are or are they kind of just middle of the pack players? I'm looking to see do they actually trade people and commit to letting these prospects play maybe we building a little bit more for their future? I think the thing with this team is they haven't direction and I think a successful season would be them kind of figuring out what direction they are going and is it going to be the prospect? Are they going to stick with its older crew? Or are they just going to kind of stick around and be a bad baseball team? Well, on that exciting note, you can follow Daniel's coverage of the rockies at the gazette and on Twitter at D Allen tuck and whether the baseball is entertaining or not. It's always entertaining on some level to try to think along with the rockies, even if it's difficult because they do seem to think differently than every other team. So I wish you well in that endeavor and also in weathering the altitude. Thank you, Danielle. Thank you. Well, we did it. Preview series complete for yet another year. Hope you all enjoyed it. We have fulfilled our mission, and we did it in time. I hope those of you who found the podcast during this preview series will come along for the ride and the regular season. And now we will give you a pass blast, which comes from the year 1986, a excellent year, a fine year, I would say, the year that we both came from, we are both task blast from 1986. So quite fun of this year. And here's a password from David Lewis, who is an architectural historian and baseball researcher based in Boston, and he writes thrift overhauls the pirates brings baseball training into the future. Call it 2001, a baseball Odyssey wrote bob herzl of the Pittsburgh press in a January 1986 article. Herzl's article told the story of the Pittsburgh pirates welcoming technological advances in order to improve team success, herzl wrote, once they talked about hitting, throwing, catching, and running, forget it, went out with the St. Louis browns, come spring training, the pirates are going to be into visualization, kinetic training, financial planning, and public speaking. The pirates had recently hired Sid thrift, a baseball lifer who ran the Kansas City Royals baseball academy in the 1970s, as general manager, thrift championed the idea of visualization in which the team hoped to eliminate the inaccuracies in what the human eye sees and increase concentration in order to do so thrift and the pirates enlisted the help of an optometrist named doctor William Harrison, who was working individually with a few players to improve their concentration and thus their hitting, other innovations thrift attempted to bring to pirates camp included developing a new conditioning program which sought to improve quickness among other things, thrift rationalize this change saying what I found is that players work diligently on conditioning to get to the major leagues, then when they reach that plateau, they stop doing what got them here. They start pacing themselves. Further changes initiated by thrift included public relations training for players, as well as financial planning classes and help with their taxes. That's nice. I could have used that. Thrifts experiments sparked team success as

"He needs to step up now and he needs to take on mile a quarter horse. Let's go a little bit further. And let's see what he's really made of. I mean, real world just never get a narrative. It was a comfortable winner. I was looking forward to watching him Gallup out after the line just to get an indication of whether he truly will get a mile of course the next time, but Jim Crowley just seemed to go through one in easily and let me enjoy his race and not push too hard. But no, terrific when he looked fantastic. But I'd really love the same in the eclipse next time. Yeah, I would quite like to see him there as well. I'm not entirely certain what they're going to do. I suppose there is the fascinating William haggis joked after the race. Oh, you know, he'd be more interesting in the July cup. Pull the pin on the grenade there, William and throw it in there. That's terrific. The Sussex stakes would look to be a pretty obvious target for him. And we look good in the CV if he manages to pass it. And we're going to come to the myelin division for the three year olds in a second, but I wouldn't be overly scared of anything that's currently in the three year old division. Unless you're about to hit me with, well, I'm not so sure. But I think it probably makes sense to go to Goodwood and then head for something like the Judd Mont. Yeah, I think we've got it. I'd like to see how many clips really to be honest with you. But I think if they stay a mile to stay, it's the obvious. I mean, what really can beat him for me, I suppose the matchup would be grievous. Who won on the next race after him. But I'd like to see him step up a little bit in distance and see what is really made of. I think we could see more from it over a mile of water. So I guess it's up to William haggins and William Harrison connections where they go. But I suppose if he does go to the Sussex for me, it's where the creators take someone. There was a suggestion that they might actually skip Goodwood. Which is intriguing. Do you like writing Goodwood? Let me ask him. I love Goodwood. I love goodwill of epsilon notes, and everyone's track, but I've had a lot of success on both courses. And they are unique courses. Up and down and it takes some getting to grips with and some horses don't enjoy those tracks on jockeys. But I've always been quite successful in looking at those two tracks. Yeah, I've been there when you've won and you do seem to enjoy it, but I wanted to ask you, because I've said it to a few jockeys in the past, and they've openly said, oh, God, I hate that place. And the best example of that was Haley Turner when I did a feature with her about the track, the ITV used. And she just opened it, oh, I hate good old. I hate writing it. And it were going back over one of her wins, which was this remarkable win where she weaves through horses. Richard Houston, but I think it's that I think it's the undulations that they've decided not to go for Goodwood. Things can change. We'll see. But I'm with you, I'd love to see them over ten for a long time. There's no reason why you can't get it being able to see the stars and the brother to help them. We've opened the door in Korea, so we may as well go from. He was expected to win the Saint James's power stakes. He drifted in the bedding quite considerably, he was two to 5 with coluche ends up going off ten to 11 and the sale. And my prospero, as well as Mel doom, basically everything got quite close to him, maybe Ulysses race two. It's terrific, what Charlie appleby has done. He's won the guineas, the French 2000 guineas, the Irish 2000 guineas and the Saint James's palace stakes, four races with three different horses. He's done the double for me, he would be their leading miler, but wouldn't be terrified of him. Connections, but by the sounds of things, he's not going to be there in the Sussex stakes. What was your overall view on Cory bus and what happens next with him? Well, I think the trade was the race. It was the best it was the highest rated host on Instagram. He looked at it looked like he should win it on paper. And it's really obliged and the only one I had he beat the same who's 8 pounds loud and him. So on paper, it doesn't look like a great victory, but a good horse can everything go wrong, and they still win not to sign a good horse. And that's indeed what happened to me. I said it before the race. I thought it was a massive risk, not putting a pacemaker in a mile on that round track ascot is tricky because you know you're getting a suggestion and then they absolutely walk around in frontier. They stack them open. William found himself in behind the pace. It looked for a minute like it was never going to get out. And it was a messy race. And everything was quickly into the line. Because they're all horses well over a hundred royalties and hosts in their own right are all clicking in the last two and a half furlongs. Creators did really well to get out, get the gap and get his head in front and win. And I thought it was a good performance considering how it was run. I felt if they had to put a pacemaker in with Adam and Eve and gallop, he'd have won going away. The one 5 lens comfortable. That's my personal opinion. I know kiernan Fallon Jungkook and pulled up with his head in his hands and thought he was an unlucky loser. He won Jeremy guineas. He was a good horse his own right, but I don't think he'd have got anywhere in their career, but if it had been a true run race so I think he was a good winner and I think if he goes to Goodwood, I think he has a three year old infrastructure 6 are rarely think we want to follow in next time. Yeah, and the market doesn't seem to have reacted to this news that by each is likely to skip good. Creepy is 11 to four by 8 is two zone with kaluki, so punish them. Punish them because I was to say to you who is the biggest thing is your degree is going to Goodwood..

"I mean, how could it be anything other than that? How could you the funny thing is as a family like that probably boasts that they have this great morality that goes along with having this many children. Doesn't it seem like I don't know. Anyway, what do you got? Okay, so I'm going to talk to you a little bit about the subject of religious charities. And how they can kind of get away with pretty much anything. It seems like, but the good news out of the UK this week is that they finally dissolved this really radical Islamic charity. It was called the Islamic Islamic research foundation international, and it had been registered for a long time in the UK since 2007. One of the ironies is that from this charity, they started a thing called peace TV, PEA, CE. Yeah. And we're basically doing the opposite of that. So they get all these charitable donations. They start this TV channel, which is basically just spewing hatred. So it's like these terrible sermons that are being broadcast by this guy, I think his name is Nate. Doctors. And it's like, it's just hatred. Yeah. Just pure hatred. But you get away with these sort of things because you're calling yourself a religious organization. Right. And everybody's terrified of calling out, especially Islamic hatred. Right. Because those guys don't. Don't mess around. A lot of the time. But here's the trick, everybody. Little helpful hint from TGI over here. Where you have religious fundamentalism you got bad things happening. It doesn't even matter. It doesn't matter which kind it is. It can be, it can be Christianity, it can be Islam, it can be Judaism. It can be Buddhism. It can be Hinduism, whatever your ism just pick one of the isms and there's probably some bad stuff here. And boy, you got some people saying some nasty shit in the name of that ism. But luckily, so the charity commission for England and Wales and then also went in Canada, just very recently are starting to kind of put the hammer down on some of these charities and have begun to be very suspicious, especially like if they're cloaked under basically the advancement of religion. Like if that's kind of like what they say that their charity is, they're really looking into that. They're starting to actually kind of get a clue. I mean, the whole point of a charity is to do service and good for society at large. And guess what? Preaching hatred and getting people to be awful to write. Part of society? Probably not benefiting society in great ways. Maybe you have to pay your taxes now. I think that that's very true. Do you guys have a charity? Could you have, oh, I guess, I mean, atheism is a religion so you can't have a charity. I can have whatever charity I want. Fuck you. You are a charity case. Look, people. If we had a charity, then we'd have to be accountable for what we do with the money that people give us. That's a good point. But in Canada too, not I'm going to go get back on track with the story. They're also kind of getting a clue when it comes to kind of the inequity between regular charities and religious charities. And they're like, maybe since we claim to be separated or religion from state, we shouldn't subsidize billions of dollars worth of our taxpayers money to pay for religious activities. I just think it's so funny. Religions often do some charity work. The Mormon church that I was raised in does some charity work. 30 to a $100 million worth of charity work. If which sounds like a lot. Sounds like a lot. Until you tell you pan out. Yeah. And you see what part what chunk of the mountain of money that they have, that actually represents. And then you think to yourself, um, maybe you don't get to call yourself a charity. Right? Maybe you are a business. You're a club. Right. Oh, a club. And you know, people pay their dues. Their membership dues, which you charge a lot, would 10% of the income is that's a high do. That's a lot of money to be a part of that club. But maybe they don't get to write off that money. As a charitable donation. And unless you actually use it for charity. Maybe you don't get to be nonprofit. Right? Unless you're actually doing charitable work. Commensurate with what money is coming in. There is no oversight to that is baffling to me. Yeah, well, that's the society. Another great thing about our country. You want to know, here's how insidious the people are. Okay. The religious folks are. I mean, I know, but you can go on. I mean, sorry, what I'm meant to say is, here's another example. There you go. Let's just do another one. This one is apparently a fellow named William Harrison, just got his PhD, congratulations to him. This is his PhD is in missiology. How do you spell that?.

Because within each way who you've really got to think that it has a genuine chance of winning but there are some way you think now it probably won't win a but i do think it's a very good chance of being second one in this case. Say third. Because i think that's probably only can hype for But i certainly wouldn't put you off him as a as a horse to get into the first three because it just seems to me no matter what company runs in. He's always got the potential to finish third so good old juke of has we love. Don't wait probably finished third. In whatever race he ran in you could run him unika dropping several grades and he's still be third. You drove into a class. Five at lingfield thursday and he's still be third. Yeah not not a bother So i think peralta was still my main selection but i i would give to hazard some consideration as well. I hope that mark strolling and karen following can bring about the necessary improvement with them at this springs to beverley my man and An old favourite the final furlong. Podcasts heads the market at judicial. Who of course loves this race. So this is the william hill. Beverly bullet sprint stakes. The listed race for the speedsters and It's going to be fascinating renewal. Judicial has The market colored. He's won this race back in two thousand nineteen I think he ran a fine it last year as well if my memory serves correctly. Maybe it's failing me. I'm not entirely certain. But he is one of beverly already. This season finishing third. Back in the fifteenth of june and last time at was back in the winner's enclosure at chester com. Rodriguez for judy camacho. Four to one dakota. Gold is five's hurricane. Ivor another bit of favourite on the puck. Podcast for william harrison till marquand thirteen to two and tis marvelous for clive. Cox and paul hannigan is sevens. So three year olds are not from fourteen in the in the beverly bullet. So he can knock out any three-year-old significantly. You're gone and and any others there's dandala by show yourself bye-bye but what about the mckenzie Who have you picked you know. A thing about statistics is that they're always there to be broken in the and i wonder whether significant might be the host to do this back. Well east all three are like a horse on the curve. It beverly near the inside and the fattening. He's a front runner means he'll stay trouble because you're not beverly because that is curved. All the way isn't it. And i think this is going to be potentially issue dakota gold who. I think really is probably taking everything into account. Learn the best horse in the race. Your very wide Significantly up in front as trouble dakota goal will either have to rigorous ways with a pack will stay wide the way she's not helping a sprint race but there's often congestion at beverly isn't it. Because of that curve and horses get behind. And then they try to switch out or try to maneuver in behind the other horses in front of them and i think significantly from me. He's he's got pole position here and he's he's not far fi inside ralph. So i'm gonna. I'm gonna stick my neck and say that that sequence could be broken in this beverly bullet and significantly. I think he's a decent price for me. And i just think there's some of the other horses in their job that good judicial. You mentioned the coach. Maybe an issue withdraw his marvelous think. He'll run his race hurricane either. He's very wide. I think there are a potential issues about all the others But of course we'd i wanna find federal sprint. Even listed what rousing the sprint handicap is. It's going to depend on. Who gets the brakes. But i think significantly. I need those. Because he'll be up front and And hopefully. We'll see another horse at any state during the rice. I have to ask you then about a another final furlan podcast favourite which is just another bottle. So this horse was. i'm trying to think. Was he fifties. When rory put him up and he became a another final furlan. Podcast monstrous gamble The idea that rory had with this worse was that if they applied Blink if the first time application of blinkers worked for him. He was his specific instructions. Were this is not an each way. Bet he is a win. Bet only because he's he's either going to win this or he's going to bomb entirely and he just burst out of the souls made all and nothing got near him as coming out of stole one and kevin could basically repeat those tactics here in a field size of twelve. He's on good to firm which was good ground Rippin and he's twelve is yours that you trust to backup that form. And possibly just given the fact that he's coming out of stow along. Could he burst out and make all and just be a little bit too hard to to peg back. He certainly got. The draw has an end and of course having mentioned significantly this the possibility they might end up running one another into the grand. I the way just another one at so rip. It was ridiculous we'll stay competitive handicap sprint so the season and nothing looked like overhaul ian from from start to finish and yet the kazeem transform classier opponents because these just a little step up from those typical saturday afternoon handicap. Is you know the grapes of wolford is a cracking race every year. And if he goes off in front as far as he did there It's quite possible. Not nothing will get near him. i and also that might selection significantly. I said i hoped he never see another horse from start to finish. He might actually see another horses rear end and it could be just another bottles disappearing over the horizon a significantly takes motorable second place But yeah every reason. I don't think there's any problem to in sprinting. With horses bridging that gap between good handicaps and going up a little step up the ladder. I mean this is a listed race but even so threes in groups. We've seen seahorses haven't we Sprinters during that time and time again is is harder for the horses over longer distances. So yes he he could do it. It is a case of whether the blinkers will work again but So that the price eventually say eleven to one twelve. You know if you if you're on riven it's a. It's a gamble at that price that you might be prepared to take because until you seen house gotta run a at bedrick we. We just don't know if he does it again. You'd be kicking yourself. Yes if you back. Senate rippin lost on the point you make about the difference between handicap enlisted even group three company and sprinters sprinters at group one level. Keep beating one another There's very little difference between the class of a sprinter at high-class handicap level. Where you're on a raiding ninety-six six and listed in groups free company and there's no reason why you can't back it up. I don't think they would put him in here on the back of two weeks unless they thought he was capable of running a massive race. He's always been incredibly frustrating. In the past and it's entirely possibly sulks. It's entirely possible. He just goes. Nah i've done it and And your horse significantly doesn't see another rival because just the bottle just can't be bothered today. But judicial is probably my selection and in fact he is nell down. i'll go judicial To win this race for the second time and it's significantly for For lee mckenzie. We've one more race to come on the final from podcast Before we do we should tell you that there is live streaming available without even having to.

"To good. Cut on a throwback thursday with heavy t. heavy mfn t and mc here stops radio sports. Talk seven ninety. William harrison who. I just read a treat fronts. That i took a break from the air force between one thousand nine hundred. Ninety five. was the police dispatcher. Missouri city then the dispatcher. Who took mrs sherman's call was atrocious. Yeah that's why i would have. After the three minutes from a distance me listening. Made me feel like that ashley. Sherman wouldn't any more comfortable getting off the call is she did get on. I i would. I would have thought that she felt a sense of security. Getting off at like. I said i don't know the nine one one dispatchers name that's not important and nor is that the biggest part of the story but moving forward a little compassion and understanding what seemed to be would would serve better but combative doesn't seem to work because it almost felt to me that ashley shurmur the stress was added to this over this. Call that being said. We continue to push the talks forward on. What's next for richard sherman. And what's going on his friends and We all have friends that go through difficult situations and times and maybe you as an individual has been through or your family and not to speculate on. What's going on rich sherman's life. But when she had mentioned the talking about suicide texas people that he was gonna kill himself. That's the those those signs their danger and this situation and friends and whatever help. Richard sherman needs to get Let's hope it happens because once again. We looked at richard sherman. I did and said he doesn't. This doesn't seem part of his character and how he the i've always looked at him has been any. I don't look at him any different other than this was a bad situation. I'm glad nobody got hurt. And boos as a bad thing in these stressors. But i look even deeper because having friends that have done it now that every nobody got hurt now. Obviously their scars from non-physical scars. Going through this because it can be. I'm sure quite traumatic for his wife and depending on where the kids were in his uncle but moving forward. Somebody's going through something all the time. And we don't know the level of it and we never know if you look at richard sherman's life say he's not going through any trouble right looking for a new team but man look at his career and the he's made the sometimes that doesn't matter so you know i'm hoping in pull for guys to get right and whatever it is that they need in their family. I hope it's okay for richard sherman's family and that whatever help he needs. He gets because that's not. That was a hard. Listen not only from the dispatcher. But from ashley sherman explaining what was going on in that three minute call guys. Let me back to this. nba thing. We're we're mc. If i were to ask you just simply and trying to get you were in the nba offices. And i said what what's Where's the state of the game with the nba. Two in the finals. How would you describe it to me. If i had no idea. The state of the game like as a hill overall a rounds our performance. i think. tv ratings. how we're doing it rules all of it. How would you state it to me through the commissioner answering a question for me and i didn't know i think that the game is a great place. Played at one of the highest levels as ever been played at viewership. Is you know a cia always evolving game. Who knows exactly what the science is behind figuring it out. But i feel like the game is in a place where it's actually being watched a lot by a lot of people. It's it's grown in the last ten years and it's set up for generation of great superstar talent because a lot more so young that are gonna be around carry the sport for a long time. Okay now you sold me that as a commissioner as a fan. Do you feel the same way you know. I do like the on the court product. I think is fantastic. There's there's not a lot. There's a lot of storylines and dump stuff that gets me hot and bothered whether it's superstar teams and guys jumping all over the place player and all that junk. The core of the game. The game the way the game is played. I think is highly enjoyable for me. It's fast it's involves a great shooting. Like i enjoy the game of basketball. There's other stuff that gets in the way of it sometimes for me but i know that i'm not the cat. I like the catholic. The casual personal always looks at so differently and you know is it so in inside the sport as we are at times tyler. Agree or disagree agree to a point. The executive point completely agree with. I think the game is that a great state. And it's i mean. The gabe is breached global. Talking about each. Yeah that's awesome as a fan goes. There's some problems. The player empowerment is bad. Super teams are bad. Small-market teams don't matter enough and the officiating has got awful like for example. The officiating during last night's game was awful. I yeah devon booker at five fouls wrapped up drew holiday on his way to the basket and somehow didn't get called for. I have no idea how that happened. Desert liver favreau. Devon booker may have had like nine fouls last night right. They just couldn't get to try to get into a six thousand craze and some of them were blade. And it's not. I'm not just this situation. We talk about refs salat and what you guys are talking about. The state of the nba agree the product on the court. We got some great players. it's a phenomenal. Watch when you just look at the talent but some of the things that you guys have mentioned surrounding the game and they'd go within the game. And i just wonder does bad officiating when it's horrendous and it's a hard job to i would want no part of that gig either but it does come into play do you. Would you decide whether to watch not watch a game. Based on the scott foster talk but officiating crews are are they ruined the game or overall is is are they doing a pretty good job or are they a problem with people's interest in the game because last night while good basketball was played the referee's got in the way and you get people question like is this thing rigged. Will they not let booker. You get that talk and that becomes talk is it is kind of hyperbolic and really if you're a basketball fan. Are you do the rest. Get in the way of your thought process on whether you like watching it or not. I mean you know make for a miserable experience of you know about that stuff. I think i think it's like baseball umpires like we'll do the angel hernandez or the Cb buckner stuff like when when it's so bad and it's so out there you you know of the guys that are out there. I think for the large majority of it. It's done right. I get the the fans standpoint sometimes when you watch these games like what are they doing site where they given a directive on how to call stuff because one night right. Everything's a foul and then the next night's nothing's too where at least in baseball there's a dead set what's supposed to be a dead set strike zone and it shouldn't change overnight. Some guys have a little bit of a worst strike zone than others. Obviously but it's like one night a guy can smack a guy across the arm going to the basket consider can wrap up or check or whatever and it's not a foul and the next night. It is a foul. That's the thing that i can get where bugs people. But i don't think it's like changing the experience of the viewership right and so basically you're saying that like for instance second. It's the frustration within that very game but it wouldn't prevent you from watching game five no because so much. Yes scott foster officiating games against the rockets and they're playing the warriors in the in the western conference finals and stuff. I was livid going in. Because i knew of the tracker of scott foster. And how you handle. The rockets official isn't official specifically their stars and chris. Paul and james harden irritated the hell out of me going in. It was never going to keep me from watching those games. Like scott foster officiating. The next game. I'll still watch some of it. It's not gonna change my thought. But i also go in with the mindset of okay. I know he's going to make horrific calls where he's going to miss a bunch of stuff and it's i'm gonna question if it's on purpose.

"All right. Sportstalk seven nine william perils harrison who listens in Key is a william is a retired. Us air force master sergeant and he says it should have been handled different than our last caller said as well. He said the retired officer. And i doubt he had ever been at at l. e. Was wrong and he even admitted though that he wasn't a dispatcher. Nine eleven call takers while trained to be a calming presence and before read the rest. That's my whole thing with this. I don't know what protocol is how to handle it other. Listen to people that are above my pay grade talk about it is it. Seemed as if there would be less combative. And they gotta take control and know that they're they've got the situation but calming presence would seem and i don't know what the fine line is will between calm and let's get to this quit talking just living. Just answer my questions but she was. It just seems to me that she lacked a little bit of the she was she was trying to. The woman was talking right in william harrison. Says this nine. Eleven call takers trained to be a comic presence are trained not to impart a false sense of safety to a caller and panic if a caller is in peril. They mustn't let their guard down. And i i don't. I don't think our previous call john was was john was saying any different. I just to assure that the person safe without letting them let their guard down. I i understand. Williams and john's approach like i said i don't know. I wish we had somebody who was nine. One one dispatcher. Out there or a family member that you could you have an answer. That kind of tells us what the exact protocols. Because i wouldn't have a clue i would think that if i was on the on the end of making the call that i would want somebody who won was incomplete confidence and in charge to made me feel like everything. I said that they were soaking. Would were taken in with urgency and three that they were getting that we weren't going to have to wait and the when they got here. Everything was going to be okay. While on the other end it appeared that ashley. Sherman was assuring her that everybody was okay that he had been physical that he didn't have a weapon and to. Please take that in. Mind when you get your so further damage wasn't done. I like i said i don't know how to handle it if i if i'm the nine nine eleven operator but it sure did seem from listening to it. I don't know. Do you guys think anything different that did it could have been handled a little better now. Whatever that better is. I guess from a distance because i wasn't in the stressor situation that i felt like ashley. Sherman had to struggle to talk over the nine eleven operator. And maybe i'm wrong not feel like a man. That's the only thing that i'm listening to like. I can get that. You had to be stern and you know not giving the like that part. There were elements of the just felt over the top. Sure i felt like she was too abrasive. Yeah yeah so it's like. I'm handling this. I'm handling this. It's like like like john set. When you're nine one one operator and i know this because a family friend of ours is one. You're supposed to be very calm. You're supposed to be a sound. You're supposed to the other person feel calm. She's not doing that in the situation. She's she's talking over her. I'm just trying to find the best way to describe it because honestly makes me mad but like she's talking over the whole time. She's not letting her speak. She's an oh slowdown. Like i can't hear you. And then when i i'm assuming as oracle because she said that richard fighting with an ankle when he tries to get on the line at the other she basically tells them like get off the call like that. She's a horrible operate inch should probably be fired. Yeah i don't and i know listen. I'm not comparing real life to movies. I don't know if you guys saw the call with I think the name of the movie. The call with Halle berry where she's a nine eleven operator and a girl gets kidnapped and trunk of. She's walking through how to handle it. Now listen i know. It's the movies. But i kind of the point i'm making is the way she was calm. But firm and it was was had trying to get the girl to relax so she could communicate right and didn't panic. I almost feel like okay. Now i can understand. She felt like she was in control to me. If i was on the other end listening to that call. If i was at that gallon the i would have said ok. She's gonna she's getting somebody here and walk with their so. There was security along with felt secure but also made her feel like we're going to get this handled quickly but like i said it's movies i don't know if that's even real or somebody studied that been in that role said dole. Listen to the nine eleven calls. Here's how you're supposed to handle it. That's and i've never had to make one of those calls. And god forbid you ever have to so. I don't know if there is a nine eleven operator out there. We've heard from two different folks and at two. Different opinions. The similar but the compassion. It just it. Just didn't sound good and i go through. It didn't sound good to me and sound like the situation. I felt that. If is ashley sherman at one thing. I didn't as i said earlier. I would have loved the nine eleven operator. Tell me they are on their way. And they'll be there at one point. she said. yeah it's going straight through to dispatch. But i never heard her say and maybe she's not supposed to. They will be there shortly on their way. Everything's gonna be. Okay stay calm. Let me continue to get the information. I never heard that so. I would still be wondering. Are they two minutes away or they fifteen minutes away. how close are they. Have you talked to him. 'cause my thought in that situation if i was ashley sherwood will i'm talking and she's interrupting me or we're going back and forth has she. Does she typing away dispatch it as she talked to somebody but she's talking to me. How do they know the situations urgent. I guess you're typing. It shows up on the officers computer screen in their vehicle and know however they handle the call with their the code of you know we gotta to eleven progress or whatever the the numbers are they used to say domestic situation and unarmed as she's type in that as it goes but i never felt like she assured ashley sherman that somebody was on their way like until the very end and she's dealing with her uncle got richard sherman. And you gotta be careful. You're kids all those things. So i don't know like i said i'm not. I don't know the nine eleven operators name and it's not really about her but moving forward. You would think that maybe that there's probably could have been handled a little bit better. It's sports talk seven ninety very difficult situation and if you guys are privy to information on how to handle that i really would be interested because there may be somebody listening to the down. The road has 'cause somebody's injured. Or god forbid anybody ever has to make those calls but they do exist and that they would know how to handle it because i quite frankly don't know how nine eleven operator is supposed to handle it. We just hear the audio when people play it in situations like this and we kind of put our minds how we'd handle it but stressor situations can be tough especially when it's a domestic situation sportstalk seven ninety nba officials and last night's game. I want to ask you to a question in our listeners. A question of Just about the nba. Where it's headed and where we are sports. Talk seven ninety. Rolls on sean salisbury. Show listen houston safe and lock houston safe and lock dot net and speaking of nine eleven calls and situations that happen but like a burglary at your house that most of us think. Nobody's coming to my house. Why would i care about the locks doors. Long as i got a deadbolt. If their fury be not prevented such a one was the dog of nicomedes king. I had one myself once which would not suffer any man to bring in his weapon further than my gate. Neither those that were of my house to be touched in his presence. Or if i had beaten any of my children he would gently have essay to catch the rod in his teeth. And take it out of my hand or else plucked down their clothes to save them from the stripes which in my opinion is not unworthy to be noted. The last sort of dogs consisted of the courage kind meat for many toys of which the wep it or procured kerr is one. Some men call them warner's because they are good for nothing else but to bark and give warning when anybody dumpster or lie in wait about the house in the night season surtees. It is impossible to describe these kerr's in any order because they have no one kind proper unto themselves but are confused company mixed of all the rest the second sort of them are called targets. "That's seven pm to ten pm. Est it's mark with you is the first supreme pontiff the church of the invisible hand. That's right to been upgraded to the secondary pope. Also the interim pope interim pope at the church of the invisible. Hand your kids now. What he said pope in an easy opening opening hard. So let's get right into the show. Prep i've got here. Turns out people care what some kooky octogenarian is going to do for the summer. Oh you don't talk about anthony fauci. Yeah so anthony. Fauci reveals which activities. He will and won't do now that he's vaccinated and indoor restaurants are still a now so he's not going to restaurants this summer even though he's vaccinated so i have this theory that eventually he will put on so many masks that we can't hear him anymore and that's when this will all be over so crazy so weird. We're just thinking about this article. I read it. I saw that he started his job that he has whatever the medical professional job as it has nineteen eighty-four will that make sense from not only is it a long time ago but it's also a very auspicious year. Yes not that. Nine hundred eighty four was really much different than nineteen thousand. Three hundred thousand nine hundred. Eighty five disagree. Wasn't there but the book that was an important book so for most of two thousand twenty. The little socializing anthony fauci did involve the neighbors right. Next door felt. She had lived in the same neighborhood. In northwest washington dc for more than forty years in the combination of his busy schedule and pandemic safety concerns can find social. Pardon me social life to a small radius and you can see why he pissy. Everybody seems to want to know what this guy's going to do. I haven't gotten a day off in a year and three months out. She told me recently when he told his wife and his wife did gather with neighbors. They took no chances household states socially distance now doors even in the fall and winter when whether gut chile. you imagine. It's ridiculous standing outside and it's good for your health to stand in the cold clearly. Yeah good idea killed. John's was it. Which which was the president that stick to the outside and talked in the cold. Rain and guy harrison william harrison. My favorite i really. I wish all presidents would follow his good example. Whenever we would get together we would do it outside freezing our butts off wearing a mask having dinner having a drink outside on my deck. He said isn't he now. Is people supposed to be fun like why even do at that. Point isn't drinking risky. I mean unless he's found a way to do it through the mask right. I mean he filter it right through the mask. Maybe the nose mask when he drinks. And now i can't help but think of the scene from space balls with the dark helmet slowly filtering. The coffee through the that little hole and his with the little trickle trickle trickle. Yeah so. I mean look. I'm not here to go after drinkers right now. But i mean alcohol is a poison right. It's called an intoxicant. And i'm not saying that. It's you humanities. Probably here in civilization because of alcohol and there's all kinds of things you can say that are good about it or whatever that's what you wanna do but if you're sitting outside and your deck with a mask on that you just lift to sip poison. Maybe the problem isn't the covid virus. I mean you know. It's a cohen any outside. Like the idea of people wearing masks outside is just baffled me. Well as long as you do this before ten o'clock i think it is. It's a very superstitious virus. It only attacks after dark and it only attacks Very politically unmotivated things. Yeah or with the wrong politics It's it's a very strange virus all well. I'm recovering from it. Right now and i can tell you. I got it indoors. You know. I mean as long as i'm having a black lives matter protest indoors. I'm safe from the from the virus. I suspect not whenever we get together we would. Let's see yeah then found she who was As served as director of the national institute for allergy and infectious diseases since nineteen four got vaccinated in a much photographed moment. He got his first moderna shot and december the twenty second in the months that followed others his age. Brackets followed suit being fully vaccinated. Found she said he's Said he had changed his behavior but only slightly. The big shift is that he and his neighbors have finally moved the party indoors. We feel very comfortable in the house with no masks and we have physical contact and things like that he said and but for now we still won't eat indoors at a restaurant or go to a movie theater now. I mean quick quick question so it mentions his first shot. Does that mean. He hasn't had the second one now. i'm sure he's at a second. I mean it was december. Twenty second he had gotten it again. I mean presumably but then give it to him because they don't want i don't know they want to show that they gave it to them. Who knows if he actually got it. But now i'm sure they. I'm sure he's gotten the shot i mean. It's i'm sure he's officially gotten a shot. I don't know that second one seems to be the one that causes the problems. The second one does seem to make some people Feel elvis died. How many are people are dying from it. I don't know do more people dying from cova than from that shot. I would suspect but you know either way. Get the shot if you wanna get the shot. Don't get the shock if you don't wanna get shot. I don't care. I don't think i would Even if i suggesting that people get to choose what goes into their body. That's what i'm suggesting. Clearly you're a fascist fell. She says i don't think i would. Even if i'm vaccinated go into an indoor crowded place where people are not wearing masks. So i guess he's scared as any if not more. You've got the vaccine. It's we're you know pretty much depth. Serve have now creeped back below normal levels and people are like. I'm not going anywhere where i've got a knocking. People aren't gonna be wearing masks. I'm beginning to suspect that this men's never been to school. So the idea of a vaccine is that now you don't get the thing you got vaccinated for. That's the idaho. If someone's not wearing a mask it really doesn't matter to you because you can't get the thing that you got.
