China Sanctions Wilbur Ross and Others, Responding to Hong Kong Warnings
"Fresh sanctions on a handful of US individuals. It's retaliation for sanctions the bite and administration imposed on Chinese officials last week. Over Beijing's crackdown on democracy in Hong Kong. Its latest attack comes just days before a visit to China by Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman and US China ties are already tense, though, as NPR's John Ruit reports there is no sign China's sanctions will derail the visit. Sanctions are the first imposed by China under a new law passed in June, which facilitates retaliation for foreign sanctions. Among those it hits a former Commerce secretary Wilbur Ross, and the China director at Human Rights Watch Sophie Richardson. For years, Beijing's responded to US sanctions and tariffs with tit for tat measures in Beijing's calculation, it had to respond to the US Bonnie Lynn, a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, says doing so before Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman's trip makes sense would disappear better if it happened a couple days after Deputy Secretary Sherman's trip that she says might risk being interpreted as a signal that the meeting didn't go well. And Sherman will be the most senior U. S official to travel to China since President Biden took office. Relations are at their worst in decades. But there's speculation that the trip could start to lay the groundwork for a meeting sometime this year between Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping. There is a desire to be able to showcase that the two world leaders can work together and part of that is being able to meet and discuss issues they agree on as well as those where they have differences, and I really hope As we see more of these incidents is on either side that they won't derail progress towards the usual meeting because both sides, she says, have significant incentives for Biden and she to meet sooner rather than later. Trump Ally Tom Barrack Charged With Acting as UAE Agent
"Another. Close trump associate arrested and charged with crimes of corruption. And his name is tom. Barrack is a billionaire businessman. He is accused of illegally lobbying. Donald trump on behalf of the united arab emirates prosecutors in the eastern district york today. Unsealing a huge seven count. Forty six page. Indictment go through it. We've got a reporter. Who's reporting on this. But this is a very important development a bunch of reasons not the least of which because when we last met here at this desk last night we were talking about the fate of the rule of law in the air of donald trump and particularly in the period where the justice department changed hands from attorney general in bar and then the final days of the trump administration. The lackey jeff rosen to joe. Biden's new attorney. General merrick garland last night. Here on this program. We were critical of the fact that justice department had according to reporting declined to prosecute trump's secretary of commerce wilbur. Ross that was according to reporting from both the associated press and government executive. Now that decision not to prosecute a came after the commerce department's own inspector general found at loss had lied to congress about a citizenship question that he wanted to add to the twenty twenty cents. We have an important update to that story. The government executive have both issued corrections. Clarifying that in fact it was the trump justice department that made the decision not to prosecute. Ross not the biden administration which is of course a very very big difference

We said get out of here now. At that point there was like if you're going to have people they were from the same state there from our away. It was like they need to have a separate bathroom and we just like put them. They just stayed on that side of. You're a writer not a mathematician. Keep asking you how many things listen. "Says. Oh my god. And i'm like this. This is the book that got people into their next level of life that they returned to and it is just his basically his diary of gratitude for my father. I got this from him. Got like you know the strength of character to blah blah blah. From my mother. i was able to learn. How to blah blah blah like. This is so nice. But what are we getting. Out of this and I made the mistake of getting excited. I'm like i texted the khalili kids which is measor cc's and my two brothers and their wives and unlike hey guys i'm about to dive into meditations Anyone wanna do with me. We'll do it like a book club. Read it. I'll talk to you guys at the end of the month and we'll see what we think about it. Oh my god crickets galore creek. And and and michael and marisa named their second kid. Marcus because of. Marcus aurelius all right. Well thanks thanks. Read one of my boys books to you too. And he drew it and michael. My brother is sending me all these like shorter versions. Or why don't you listen to it or here. It is on youtube. And i'm like dude. We are going gonna do this. A lot of great people have read this book. And it's changer. let's do it. And zirk sees gets a copy because he likes reading it from regular books. I love the kindle and then a couple of weeks later mike rose. I think i was wrong Boring as fuck. And i'm thinking about putting it down so Zirk outside of the text goes. Hey i bought the book you know you can't just give you told everybody you're reading it like why don't you follow through and i go okay when you start reading. First of all crickets from one. i said. hey. I'm not doing this. Nobody was like me too or even like they got the book. Okay and then second. You have the book when you start reading. I will start reading it over so that we can talk about it again though far. No one's in so it could please explain to me this meditations. One of the things that sexy says was hey. It kind of is like meditation when i started. Seems like there's no purpose for it. There's no reason for it and then going. I don't think they meditation in the eastern sense. I think he's just like yeah. I thought about this for a long time. And then it's hard to go back and read it just like it's hard to read like. Ben franklin's aphorisms where a man who goes to bed early feeling pretty good and they're like thanks then like i think it's just because you're beyond it as a society but he saying maybe it's supposed to you're supposed to read it to get into a meditative state or how like just like how you get into a meditative state and unlike will try with that intention and then you fall asleep and you're like oh that was good. That was really good for my is down until i had to close well. Here's what i decided to do like an asshole. Like i'm gonna put this down until somebody else's reading it with me okay. Because i'm too hard. I decided to be combined ran another. You know author. That people are talking about and i started reading Atlas shrugged course. What is this fucking. Who's what is going to read about the fucking railroad system in the steel mills and the begin. Y do pick these subjects now after like. They're and they're pouring. Steel and the steel is drying. I'm like we watching wet paint next what is happening and i downloaded the the sample i'm fifty percent in. That's how big the book is. I've been reading for so long. nothing has happened. Anybody who picks the book over movie is deliberately being pretentious and deserves everything they get in. Who the book at this point. Anyone who picks the book over the wikipedia articles cook is trying to say. Because i think that people have very much discounted or discredited her world view. And i don't mean to. This is Anti intellectual statements. I know that. I wrote the book on being anti intellectual but i genuinely feel bad for saying it like i don't think she did a net good for the world as a writer so she convinced a lot of people that like. Doing charitable acts is bad. And you get to spend. I understand you're like or or the rest of your life. Being a libertarian or understand that her point of view is very controversial. I doubt that i'm going to be on her side. I'm not looking to take sides. I'm working to go like one of the greatest writers and has even the fact that like we're arguing over her where i don't even know if you read one of her books. Why are we arguing about this. So you didn't read it. I didn't we didn't. We're still talking about this author with the fuck itchy possibly writing and then i'm on to you i'm onto olive you. None of you ready it. None of you know one read it but a little bit of this thousand page book you would understand. It could be a bunk. It just tell you the sucking point what is all of this. I'm convinced in that same sense that none of my professors whoever cited don quixote had ever finished it because they would bring up like the first one hundred pages which is all. I got through when i was a kid. And they'd be like. Have you ever read don quixote back. I never finished it like well as you know. He went crazy because he read too much and stayed up all night with this romantic idea and i was like. That's just the first forty pages. I've never heard anyone site the like second half the chunks of it that mike unless you are a professor who teaches it. I don't think anyone's actually finished on quixote in the genia in academia. I just thought of another ticket to the saddest moment of quarantine which is that. I read a cicero book. Who's he's thirty five. You're right you're doing better than us. Look from the different aspects that we're bringing up like i was bored with this key was like that was a good wrestling match. So cicero wrote his own. Not meditations he wrote these dialogues about about what is funny in speech and so i was like well. You know. funny person studied classics. I'm ready. I started reading it and i was like wow. It's interesting but it's also wrong. I don't know what i expected like. I expected it to be politically correct. But he's like one of the statements is like look. We're all comfortable making fun of people with disabilities. More like yes. Yes thank you. The romans right yes. This is what we know that. If you take it too far people will turn. And i was like i of correct this is. He's got he's got it here. And the only reason that this was the lowest point of quarantine for me. Because i read it and i was like you know what the guy who translated. This probably never gets any questions. You can't teach person. I'm going to do a good thing and right to him about a couple of questions i have an. He answered me with a long email of other stuff. I could read. And clearly. I wrote the email at midnight. He got back to me at two thirty a. m. is just like we were both. I'm the only one who read it. Read it nobody cared. I'm pretty sure. It was the only email and i feel bad. But in all fairness going back zirk had read meditations it was just years ago and he also read the don quixote book As well so he gets the credit. But i don't know if i could do it and i'm onto the rest of you haven't read it now so i think that's true of a lot of books. People people do read some of this shit. It sounds like. I think you've seen you've seen these women saying you know. Don't don't sleep.

How you doing dan i. I'm doing great. Thanks for having me. Good the see siding. I- your standards. Very funny i want story. That's pop it in my head is when you you're in ohio in move into the From the suburbs. To the main city of cleveland and the ver- very how old were you when you guys most when you're thirteen thirteenth thirteen. Somebody tried to break into your back door the very first day they go out there because you know they don't know any better. Let's see what's going on out here. They see somebody with it sounded like a crowbar trying to break in. And what is the Guy do when he sees your face he. He pretended while he reaches into his pocket. Which is very scary right. You know i. I set up the suspense very well. I mean you did a great job setting up the story. you're in cleveland. There's a guy i'm not. No this is great i. He reaches into his pocket. My dad and i are like what's about to happen any why. Why are you standing there watching edits as if the popcorn in your hand. This makes horror movies true for white people that's terrifying terrifying sound and there's blood losing out of our walls. Let's go check it out. Yeah that's exactly what we did. And i think what what they get right and movies. Is that what you actually think is that well. Nothing bad's going to happen if i go and insert myself into the situation and calm everything down. I'll be the hero. I'll walk in there and reason with this ghost until they disappear even though i don't know anything about that's what you're talking about like a horror movie right less. Yes so my dad. And i not used to. The city just walked out the front door and walked around to the back door to sneak up on him to. Also you know. We don't need to call the police and we don't need to get the authorities involved. The door was locked first of all so we. That's one point in our favor. We didn't just leave the door for giving points for now. Okay clark i point. Hey this is great. Yeah i'm just saying you know. I feel like in the imagination. Ohio is is a safe place with the unlock doors. So so guy cleveland. What's this guy. Put his hand into puts his hand into his jacket and he pulls out his hands as if pretending to have a cell phone doing like the little thumb up ping all now i'm and pinkie out fully. Because because what year is this. He's doing an old school phoned old school phone. Yeah i'm suddenly. He's miming that he's tied into the cord. Like this is yes and in fact. Anybody who's taken any improv class knows that you're not supposed to do that. You're supposed to pick it up like you're holding the phone. He would just be your fist. You laugh at it. Like what. Is that a cell phone i said you know. Where did you do your object work sir. What summer stock have you done. And then i asked for his resume. I was very very. I was in the in the hollywood scene already in. Cleveland does a thirteen year old boy and he pretended to have he pretended to have a cell phone and he said dude. I think i'm at the wrong house. hand he had some. You know you had a sticker. So i mean wasn't like i don't think he thought this through. He was like jiggling the handle. He was trying to. Brian open with something that he found. He told me to break into your house. But i think at the wrong exactly and and so yes and then the joke is that i you know. Where is that that crime movie. Where's that episode of the wire where they're like someone catches you breaking into a house. Just grab a rope sliding no sense on. Radio and mime. Mime your way out. Did you guys standing. Let him work. Did you think about pulling a fake guns. I thought about it. I thought about saying freeze buddy and then fake. Yeah yeah and then if any trouble started just blow up a balloon and you know and then magically has helium in it and you float away in case of danger. These are things that mimes would do in case. You're listening to this and you're like why doesn't this make any sense. What time goes by comeback. Because you come back with an idea much later but yeah those were the good ideas what what actually did happen did did he acknowledge you. All my dad died. He did for that. A real gun shop. I can't believe i buried the lead. I i wanna tell everyone a story. Nothing bad happens. That's where i wanna start What happened was. I don't know if this is in the clip is. He tried to break into our neighbors house. So it's actually really funny is that we didn't call the police we just said. Hey buddy hit the bricks you know. Why don't you scandal. Did you say hey buddy. Hit the bricks. I didn't because i'm not. Who said what happened. Legit from what i remember. 'cause i ran the story about my dad because my wife asked me if it was true and and then we did I did the whole act out in front of my dad and he was like. This is exactly what happened. I said i think he just said hey. You are in the wrong you know. He got the dad voice out he was like. Yeah you betcha you are in the wrong. This is the wrong house..
What Separates Humans From Other Animals?
"Animals. I mean my dog has a 401k. Also why do we pace. When we're stressed or anxious like in the bugs bunny cartoons. Somebody's waiting outside the delivery for so andrew came across a paper in the journal. Frontiers in psychology which. I was so charmed by that. You've read as we can talk about it. It's called acquisition of a joystick operated video task by pigs. How could i forget for the listener. I'll just explain. These experiments were carried out at penn state university. There were four pigs. A pair of yorkshire pigs named hamlet an omelette and a pair of panna pinto micro pigs named ebony and ivory. I guess after stevie wonder and paul mccartney or the song of that name or after piano keys and the paper describes what the pigs were and were not able to learn in these experiments manipulating video game joystick with their snouts. And what i really want to know is tell us how it changes your thinking as a psychologist if it all about non human animals their capabilities. The way we should think about them perhaps differently about ourselves differently. Well thank you for broadening. My academic horizons. I would not have read this paper on video games and makes were it not for our friendship so i i will just say that when i read this line i literally laughed out loud after twelve weeks of training. Hamlet and omelette were terminated from the experiment because they had grown too large no fit within the constraints of the test pen. Academic research is tough. You lose fifty percent of your research pool just like that so anyway now down to two test subjects by the way. So one of my intuitions is that one ought not an. I understand that this research is hard. But maybe not generalize to olive pig them based on this very small number of pigs because look at wilbur wright some pig yeah so maybe ebony or ivory were some one of them was much better than the other in the research so there's various across pigs even yes. It is

"Richard. Tim james here with my co host carter wilcox and today and house. We've got the ceo and founder of utech. The guy himself wilbur. You will thanks for being on with us today. now we wanna do is Your backstories pretty cool Started from an idea. Hit some passion some enthusiasm and you had a skill set and you started making people's problems go away in the universe rewarded you with a with a thriving business so I'm really excited to continue this talk with you now what i want you to do you mind is get into utech like what is it that you're doing for the advisors. I know you're like working with csi financial now. They use you to bring a ton of value to the adviser. So what is it that utech does so well for the advisers that are working with csi financial. Why think biggest thing is we. You know when when advisors come in they. They're typically the you know they're older. They don't understand the whole digital side of it and they need help kind of bridging that gap So it's it's the same for anything that the when you go out and you buy something if you don't understand that you just typically don't buy it or you just ignore it and you in. There's there's a lot of flaws to that. So what we do. And i obviously partnered up with carter in it is You know he basically had us design. How a specific you know website in all the tools that are needed for a men were able to scale from there to offer those websites at a much much lower cost to they advisors so that advisors instead of spending fifteen or twenty thousand dollars for a website with a reputable firm. They can spend five hundred thousand dollars to get everything kinda situated and not only that is we truly believe with the website. It's your first impression in it's going to be your hardest sales person so You know these advisers should have been looking websites in in websites that work for them. Because you know there's the website doesn't sleep it doesn't eat it doesn't drink. It doesn't get sick. it is working for you. Twenty four seven in. It is your first impression in you. Never get a second chance. I know first impression. So that's the idea behind it In obviously the marketing side. That comes with it afterwards Just because you have a great website. Good-looking must it doesn't mean that people are actually seeing that website. You know we drive people to your website and the in the day of the yellow pages are dead. I remember. I talked to a lot of of companies in advisors in all of them in there. You know they were like you know back day. We just put our name in the yellow pages or in order to get to the top of the yellow pages. You'll changed their name so it starts with a so that the they're the first ones are seen in the yellow pages in all of that but in today's world yellow pages are dead. And what did they do. They go on google type in you know financial advisor near me or estate planning near me or something like that..

One of our key strategic partners that is all about helping elevates decline experience. Now when i talk about client experience. Typically i'm talking about the advisers clients. But here i'm talking about the advisers that we work with As we are advisers advisers learn Through the last fourteen. Fifteen months of what's been happening in the in the world is that most advisors really aren't sure how to have a online presence. But what in wilbur. I'm sure we're going to call on you here and for your expertise but most advisors have really been forced into being comfortable online much like their clientele has been forced to be comfortable online. And as our typical demographic most of our advisers are older. Right very fifties and sixties. They're not technologically savvy right. They don't understand what being google proof really means everything. But we'll you talk a little bit about you know sort of back in the day. You're a Fish... Get Over It!
"Today i want to talk to you about fish and i think this whole thing is kind of stemmed from a youtube comments so just read that first and we'll go from there that work for you. It sounds good all right. So here's a comment. Don't you think it's discriminating to call inexperienced players or players. In general who do make mistakes fish. I learned poker about a month ago. And i still make many mistakes but i think it's disrespectful to call me a fish after all. Everyone is doing the best they can. So any first thoughts on this and were is kind of jump off and go from there. Yeah i think from my perspective I definitely understand that not. Everyone's going to be sophisticated in poker and all aspects of life. And i think Wilbur looking for when we say something fish like we need to delineate. Who is the fisticuffs. Who is in. How that impacts you know our games. Yeah that's totally fair. So when i think about fishing fish means something fairly derogatory in the poker sense. But i think just in general really to classify what it means to give it a pure definition. I kind of think about someone who is like the bottom ten percent at something. So would you agree with that or would you say maybe it's five percent twenty percent doesn't really matter to you. Yeah ten percent. It's the player in the game. The like happy to have him game right. The one out of nine one hundred ten

Obiang gema said the explosion had been caused by the negligence of the team in charge of storing dynamite inside the military base that put an end to hours of speculation over what exactly had happened. Fanne Foxe, ‘Argentine Firecracker’ at center of Washington, D.C. sex scandal, dies at 84
"Age, the name Fanny Fox means something. The one time stripper gained insane notoriety after she jumped into the tidal basin on an October night in 1974. She was in a gown the car she'd been in Had been pulled over by police and the man she was with made the story even bigger. He was Congressman Wilbur Mills, a Bible Belt politician who also led the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. That night, assured Fanny Fox his place in the annals of political scandals. And we've just learned today that Fox died recently at the age of 84. Let's learn more about her role in D. C History with Washington Post obituary editor Adam Bernstein. Hey, Adam, Thanks so much for being with us. And at this point, most people in Washington probably don't know anything about Fanny Fox, who was she It's a good question. Thank you so much for having me on well. The reason she was such a big name here is because of her involvement. As you said with Wilber Mills. He was the some have said the second most powerful man in Washington on Lee. We superseded by the president sort of it in the early 19 seventies, Wilbur Mills was chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, which controls a lot of money, and he had been in Congress for many decades. By that point, so he had this reputation of Um, accumulated reputation for food for power. And he also was from Arkansas, the Bible belt, and he had also cultivated this reputation as a as a workaholic. A grind. Um, a man of utter rectitude. And so what happened was, uh, you know, nothing would have been revealed of this affair, at least publicly. Except for this bizarre episode is you mentioned at the Washington the title based Mackenzie's senior The Jefferson Memorial. And on October 7 1950 74 He who? Wilbur Mills, who had been seeing Fanny Fox at her burlesque, Cole, You're in D. C. I was with her one night two in the morning and they get into this weird accident near the at the Tidal Basin. Basically, they're in a car without lights on the police. See them, They stopped him. And Fanny Fox. Or, you know, on impulse jumps out of the car and into the title base, And she starts you know, wrestling with the policeman who goes in after her. It's discovered that her face is all batter that Mills who were these Coke bottle glasses, His glasses are smashed. And is reeking of alcohol, and the TV crew happened to be nearby as well. So it's just perfect storm of of of politics and media, and this is right at the time of Watergate as well. So everybody was looking for the next scandal. So what ultimately happened to Wilbur Mills? Then what was the code on Fanny Fox? Good question. So Wilbur Mills survives. Oddly enough, the next election he goes, He goes back to Arkansas and sort of in this folksy manner tries to play it off. You know, his famous quote at the time is One should never drink champagne with a foreigner that that's the lesson he took away from him. And and you know, weirdly enough. He survived with his wife. She seems to back in publicly. But you know, right after winning the election and seemingly surviving by by a thread appears on her, appears with Fanny Fox again on stage in Boston, Fanny Fox and parlayed all the publicity into this lucrative career on the burlesque circuit. And he goes on stage. It's It's just terrible embarrassment captured on TV of all places again, and his career is them finished. He I think he resigns. He spends it goes into recovery. Disgraced from public office, but then spend the rest of his life. He lived a to least another 15 20 years, basically helping other recovering addicts like himself. Fanny Fox have Ah Less of Ah, a much harder time of it. She Prospers for a couple years winds up down in Florida. I couldn't find out that much about the family didn't want to cooperate, but I was able to look up various records. She she got a couple of all things degrees. Including one you know, in marine science of all. Wow. And but I couldn't figure out I couldn't figure out what she did with her time. Her lawyer didn't say your family wouldn't talk. Um I don't know. She had jobs or just How she struggled by and we will just have to live that mystery. Continue, Adam, because our time is up, though, clearly we could talk about this for a very long time. Thanks So much for being with us. Thanks. That's
What a cactus taught me about prickly emotions
"So i'm a sports and performance psychologist which means i get to work with a lot of people like athletes military professionals in top government agencies. His career in safety depend on peak performance. And all never forget this one story. A soldier told me about his time serving in iraq. It was around early. Two thousands when the united states had military operations in both iraq and afghanistan. Enduring this time. Many locals were encouraged to come forward and share information about potential threats. So one day. This iraqi man approaches the game of the us outpost to share intelligence about a possible threat but instead of being treated like an ally he was met with hostility by the soldier. Who's debriefing him. But that's likely because just days earlier soldiers from another unit were killed in a surprise attack and so as the interview continued so did the soldiers irritation and as a result. The iraqi became frustrated in the end. Tempers were flaring so high that the interview was cut short in the following day. Two separate units were hit by roadside bombs. we'll never know for sure. The attacks could have been stopped. Heavy interview gone differently. But the reason why. I'm telling you this story is because it's an excellent example of a super common problem that keeps so many of us from performing at our best. It's how wilbur regulate emotions which is one of the most common drivers of a good and bad performance and it turns out how well you're able to regulate your emotions depends on how susceptible you are to a principle called emotional contagion. It's just like it sounds. It's how quickly you can catch the emotions of other people and then take them on your own. The problem is though most of us are highly susceptible to other people's emotions which means even the smallest factor can impact how we perform at work on the field and even at home but lucky for us. We can learn how to avoid other people's emotions by becoming better at regulating our own. So here's how i like to think about this. I remember seeing a giant teddy bear looking trump for the very first time hiking in arizona in because it looks soft i reached out to touch it but by the time my hand was close. Enough the spines on the branches jumped in print me literally. My hand was covered in every time. I tried to remove one little sucker would break off in a burrow deeper into my skin in this plant. It has the perfect name. It's called the jumping choya and it left a lasting impression figuratively literally so much so that when i teach people how to regulate their emotions and avoid cashing the emotions of other people i refer to the jumping choi effect and over the years. I have concluded that the jumping toya's are just like people they can be pricks in. If you're not careful they can deepen to your skin so to understand how this happens in real life. I think it's helpful to know what emotions actually are. And there's two popular theories about where emotions come from. The first theory is called cognitive appraisal which basically says that the experience of emotion is actually you evaluating if your current situation aligns with your goals are expectations. So let's say you're on your way home to share some exciting news with your significant other. You walk through the door you find them sitting on the couch but instead of a hello or how was your day. They leave the room without saying a word now. That's not how you expected your to go. Which could lead to the emotion of feeling annoyed. Does that make sense. The other series called physiological perception. Which is all about the emotions be subconsciously. Assigned to the physical changes in our body. Public speaking is a great way to understand this. How perfect right. Usually right. Before i speak. I get butterflies in my stomach now. If i had seen physical feeling. The last time. I spoke in public in a speech went well. I may interpret that situation or that sensation as the emotion of excitement. But let's just say. I bombed my last speech. I may now interpret that butterfly feeling as nervousness or fear basically we overlay our physiological perception from our past experiences onto our current situation. And what's interesting. Is that both of these. Theories also play into how we assess the emotions of other people because the part of the brain processes emotion and memory. The limbic system is considered to be an open loop system. It influenced by any external factor. Think about it. Have you ever passed by someone and without saying a word you can feel how annoyed how excited they are and then maybe you felt annoyed or excited to. It's an interesting concept to think about because our brains are hard-wired to pick up. These settled jews in our environment. Which makes it possible for the other person's emotions to jump in attached to you but what many people don't realize is that every human being is affected by our open loop system. Many people at work or many people on the same team inevitably catch feelings for one another sharing everything from jealousy to envy and worry to joy.
JRPG Report Episode 144 - The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Black First Details - burst 02
"Hello friends welcome back to the show. This is the g. rpg. Report episode one hundred and forty five little bit weird this week and we knew it was going to be with christmas eve falling on our normal release date and of course christmas the next day and there must situation My little girl's birthday being the day after christmas so yeah we get a bang bang. Bang three a craziness there. Obviously just mitt that there was really no time to reporter Record a podcast. Even before christmas was just too hectic so We're recording this on saturday. The twenty seventh just a couple days left in twenty twenty. Goodbye rents But we've got a lot of cool things to talk about today. I kinda wanna wrap up all the stuff that we've missed as it's been nine days since our last pockets. No i'm sorry that's not even right. That is fuzzy. Math is been eleven days since our last podcast. So we've got a few things to go over That have popped off. Since then. And i wanna kinda look look forward to sometime this week. Mean jordan are going to get together and kind of talk about What games we really loud from. Twenty twenty maybe even discussed some Game of the year options and then look forward to twenty twenty one as Right off the bat. We got a bunch of games coming out in the beginning of the first the new year. We got to tell you rods two. You've got bravely default to you've got he's nine And the newly Confirmed for some of five strikers. Just a name The the big big ones I'm sure there'll be others. That will be unfortunately lost in the in the way. So we're going to record that sometime this week and In lieu of any news breaking. I may just make that part of the normal podcast unsure on that. But let's get into it. I hope you guys had a wonderful christmas holiday I didn't have any games that i particularly wanted that. We're already out. So i just kind of asked Asked the parents for Email confirmation that beginning Today risa to when it comes out on january twenty six that was cool and i did end up much too. Many of your delight. Hopefully i'm finally going to take a dive into these series. I picked up. Yee's eight for only twenty dollars on the ps story. I could not refuse as the physical version just refuses to ever go down in price so i figured this was by far the best opportunity. Get in on. What many consider to be a very very good. Jr pg and at some point. I'll be playing. It don't really know when that's going to be but that's enough rambling We did have fell. Calm day Twenty twenty winter addition and we got a few tidbits of information about the new legend of heroes. Toddle kiro no koseki if you notice the thumbnail for this Podcast are the two newest main characters is a third as well but these They dig use some high-rise resolution images of the to unsure why the third one was kind of like ashaari pow We'll get you later but still no names for these two characters but we do have a bit of information stuff. You see that image. There's a couple other on our facebook and twitter feed of those two characters while they are. I say have that trails feel to them. I do kind of agree with what president condo said last time that at mediate Glance they don't appear to be trails characters. And i believe that lies in the fact that they are from calvert So they're going to look a little bit different and we'll talk about that in just a little bit. These illustrations were drawn by katsumi. Nama and the other characters are from alcom. Like i said the character's names were not announced to this game is coming out sometime in twenty twenty one in japan so those were the images. There were some other ones as well. If you'd like to see all those. I did put up a slide show video on our youtube channel. So you can check those out if you don't feel like clicking through pictures of via the website here is what we do know and i will just read this to you as this is the about for the new age of heroes karoo new koseki beyond the blue sky ahead of flashing light a land. A dawning resides cuba. There's no spoilers going on in here. This is all preliminary stuff in the news story arc. So we don't have to worry about that type of stuff the ladder this latter half of the trails. There is about to begin. The setting moved to the calvert republic in two thousand and twenty one foul calm release. Legend heroes kernigan the latest entering the trail serious as its fortieth anniversary rumors of work. The calvert nation is a multi ethnic nation experiencing unprecedented economic growth. Brought about by post war reparations. In a corner of the capital of a huge nation were immigration issues bringing about political instability. Okay well maybe. There are some spoilers in here okay. let's just get to the best. I'm sorry i read that. And i didn't think about it until just now okay. The command style action time bow system. You didn't previous trails. Titles has been revamped and that's going to set up an from a couple people. Let's just see what they said. Seamlessly transitioned from action oriented field battles to turn based commands battle to turn based command battle systems while making use of the unique elements the sixth generation combat or meant would try to pronounce his last time. I'm not sure how it is x. I f. r. x. i. p. h. a. z. Feel in a ballots to evolve from the previous trails titles. Okay so what does that mean. I don't. I don't know i really don't know how to had say seamlessly transition from action oriented field battles to turn based command battle systems I i mean obviously there's a bit of an extra element when you strike the enemies on the field in order to go into the turn based battle i. I need to see this in action to really know what they're even beginning to talk about would just have to wait and see You will feature many elements you laws. It's setting including a topics system which enabled together until such topics by communicating with. Mpc's out towns tra- gate situations in your favor when you act as a spray gun and that is the The character it's basically a detective. But they're calling them spring and alignment flame system. In which characters three alignments great and chaotic fluctuate depending on your own style influencing various status allies and adversaries and even scenario developments please look forward to allege heroes lowest entrance toasters depicted enrich expression by thumbs new original ingen. So that's that's pretty cool Here's what how they set up the situation and I get. I don't wanna get too much into this. The to emit the two people that you see in the image the one is the one call the speaker those are they say sometimes detective somedays negotiators and other days as bounty hunters. They're up for any job from any client. That's pretty cool And then the other one is Say to be a school girl wearing uniform. Prestigious school visits a rundown building located in old town in cowards capital. So that's the setting that's beginning of it. You can check out those images. Like i said there's a third character in the images as well with the two swords on his back and some long hair but we don't have any details. There is a battle scene that shows what looks like to be a craft or an art powering up but that from that snippet it does look to be turn based. So don't i'm so confused as to what to make. But i'm certainly excited about this one. But the lack of details and the promise of something new is leading to some question marks popping up. And i don't necessarily love that idea but it is what it is and until we learn a little bit more. It's just going to be speculation Unfortunately though that wasn't the only bit of information. And i'm sure we'll have a bunch more but Foul calm day twenty twenty winter. Also let us know about and this is not really affecting us as much. But they did. Say that a hatch marco koseki which is the one before this one and after cold steel four Clouded leopard entertainment will release a switch. Pc esteemed version of the game Sometime in summer. Twenty twenty one in japan in asia. I'm nearly positive. That's the same company that handled The transition for coastal three and four to the top of my head. So i came out for. Ps four in japan on august twenty seventh. So you know nearly a year later. They're talking summer to get that Switch pc version now. It handles the asian side of this and i s america handles the translation available. At least they have for the past two games In the cold still series in the west still no confirmation that that translation is ongoing. That have to assume that it is unless it's being handled by other parties I mean exceed did do the first two trills of cold steel games but at imagine that they are going to do this hedge amari as well and as soon as i hear something about that it will happen. It's certainly a good thing that this is happening and It could lead to a speedier at least for these games in the west. But like i said still no information on unfortunately. The last thing that they talked about was not briefly. Mentioned this last time the natto. noca- seki game. That is coming out in japan for For playstation four. This was the old Two thousand twelve least. Psp action rpg though some new details and images kinda showing the ps p version versus the Ps four version of it They're sent opposites gonna run at sixty frames per second on. Ps four with more vibrant graphics. Not being obviously these are things that you'd want to have updated from an old old system user interface options One thing that i thought was very interesting. And i'm not to say what they say. This game is not connected to the trails game. However the main character's name is now utah herschel now you trails players especially cold. Steel will know towa. Her last name is hershal So what they're they say there's no connection but then there's a connection is the protagonist and a boy from that island who attends and academy in saint elise. Those aren't you know aren't names that i recognized the from the trails series so it is very very interesting and i would be would like to know what that connection is at kind of read through it. You can read through the tales. Like i said before i am lower on the percentage scale To say of this game was actually going to make it over here or not. I if i if you say your day is gonna come today out outs. Action say no but would just have to wait and see. The original game did not look super impressive. So this isn't a game that i'm all that excited about to begin with but we'll have to. We'll just have to wait and see if that indeed happens for a lot of switch owners the next. Gop g they will more than likely be picking up is going to be bravely default to gain closer and closer to that february twenty. Sixth rolled wide release date friend square annex released new trailer for it albeit in japanese and have still not seen an english version of this yet so it talks all well. Supposedly it talks about wiz walt. The country established by those mejia's. They did it themselves to studies. The magic research institute But the the real kicker with this one and you can see it. Is this places overgrown. It looks like it was built kind of in the middle of it are on top of a giant tree. And there's just this tree just going right up through entire town is really cool again Trailer is how long was trailer of about three and a half minutes. Like i said in japanese so you can't really tell what's going on but it is kind of cool to see some of the visuals in action Four it but if you're elected shake those game out for yourself you can check out the demo for it It is now live on the east shop and One who feels the demo before its release will even pick up one hundred mine. Intendo platinum points here is the Short official description of the demo experienced the games at risk and reward system character strategy and stunning visuals in the latest braley default to final demo in this demo. The games four men characters are already other journey with jobson abilities at their disposal. I downloaded this. The other night. as if getting the switch away from my kid was hard enough with minecraft previously The kid did pretty good for Christmas and her birthday. And i now had to contend with her own copy of animal crossing so she and my wife can play two switches and who copies of animal crossing so they can will each other's islands. I know she also got the Spyro trilogy which. I really enjoyed those games growing up. So i can't wait to play those with her and relive those moments and she picked up mario maker to so. I'm not seeing that switch for a while. Maybe once she goes to sleep. If i don't have anything to play eck fired that demo. I would like to see how it is shaping up as will If you've got some free time and you're looking for d'you monster hunter rise. There are to say ten videos in total. Let's do a little no here. One two three four seven eight nine ten eleven twelve. There's twelve total. So i check. They were they were released in two packs. I take them all and made them into six long. Because it only about a minute minute long. So if you're one to check out some of the different weapons they go into monster hunter rise. You can do that going from Things like the switch axe gun lance hammer sorted shield heavy light bogue gun. Land is long swords and even the hunting horn. Over is from publisher. D three Developer felicia quite heard of them before. But still no word on it. I really hope they bring this over because it does pretty fun but yeah nothing Nothing quite yet. i'll go over some of these ones. That are just videos. There's a fifteen minutes of new footage from christ tales. This is previewing the present and future game play of it Remember this game got pushed back to early. Twenty twenty one. That's just the winner that don't into it's been Hit with a couple delays here lately. Not sure how much. Everything's pandemic related at this point but how much they just wanna fine tune things in. How much is really needed to make this work. Obviously you're doing with a system of past present and future while stuff can go wrong and working Just the way that you would like it to work New genesis the fantasy star online. To almost say reboot but definitely the new version of there is the opening movie for it and you should probably check this out. If we're looking at over fifty minutes of new footage as well mostly the character creation for its but this opening movie You know typically when you see these opening movies. They're using a pre rendered scenes. This was actually created using parts of the in game graphics. Engine which looks amazing Definitely if you're looking forward to this you should check it out sometime in twenty twenty. One is the release date Four it but again. This is one of those. Well not one of those but this is the faa gain. That i'm kind of just don't understand why it's not on playstation four. In the west it is in japan. But you've got to either play on xbox or on pc here in the west doesn't make a ton of sense but there's just things like that in this world that we gotta kinda get used to them. I guess we got three bits of sky news this week. i is. You can check out the fourth official trailer for six defiance of destiny I believe there's an english. There's an english version for this out. Now you can check it out. There was originally came out. There was just a japanese version but the english version shows off of really cool voices that they've got for the game. They got some good voice. Talent in this one in Very fitting for the series especially the little reincarnated pug services is awesome It's about seven or review of the game If you are curious about what's going on in this one changes that they've made this series. You will definitely want to check it out. Of course it doesn't come out in the west until summer. Twenty twenty one. Japan is going to get it in right about a month on january. The twenty eighth The other day actually. This was on christmas eve that this news broke New punchy released some new information screenshots for the game featuring and i hope i get these names right la haro aetna and flown Those were the original characters from the original the sky and they are saying that Basically once you beat the game you can Play a scenario with these original characters in it so kind of a you know. They're not in the main game this something post post content but the fact that they're in their would open the door to other characters popping up from other games as well. So that's a cool thing The world inside of an item. I m worlds have mended. Detailed in this article on worlds are divided into several fours slash layers and the items level increases with every four. That you clear says weapons become stronger as they level up. You can clear there either. Worlds to power them up once. An item is leveled up. You can get the same item at the same level from then on pretty cool feature of the sky series all these images i took input into a slide show. You can check that out on our youtube channel so you can dispatch companions into item worlds to research them. There's a new team attack system with up to ten characters in it. That's a pretty cool feature. New enemies were detailed There's a new horsemen. That's pretty crazy. So here's the Previous protagonist Oh here we go says not only will hear from. Our doctors appear the protagonist in heroines of the sky. Two three four and five will also appear in three d. The protagonist and heroines wilburs as downloadable content sometime after the launch of disguise six. So there's a from the sky to or i don't know in timika these pronunciations. I'm at risk of offending people. I understand how they're supposed to be pronounced So yeah they're gonna add them in there as as post content deal see. That's the type of thing. Like i would think you'd be okay with paying for because that's obviously not a part of disguise six. They are previous games characters in new content. So take how you feel about. Dlc that is that's one thing i think is is no k To do speaking of all those previous disguised characters they are all assembled in the rpg. First Flight With Mike Manseca
"Tell us about how you started. First flight dot org because this is really obviously. You've you've been to kitty hawk. Many times Tell us what your first time going there. Well my first time was. I couldn't even tell you how old it was as a kid and it actually was with my dad the outer banks always ended up being a place we would go for vacations. I like for instance when i graduated from high school. Joe double hills is where we went for our Graduation party week. Whatever you wanna call it But i've been there before and my family. And i now go actually. I live in richmond. Virginia right now uh-huh even though i'm the head of an organization is down in kitty hawk north carolina but For probably about the last twenty years. We've gone every august for for summer vacation. 'cause we discovered as vacation place all those years ago and we just love. It can't think of a better place to go on vacation so we still do it now when you were a kid and you went there did the significance of the location of the you realize the significance of the location or was it just a a neat place to go for vacation. No no i completely did and much chagrin the rest of my family. They didn't look at me. Like how many times can you go to the same place you know what changes nothing changes. But i. i don't care. It's like a pilgrimage to go to the wright brothers national memorial to go to the park to see where that first powered flight happened and i'm a fanatic about it since i was a kid and when two thousand and three came around and i knew it was going to be one hundredth anniversary of flight trying to figure out. How am i going to get. I'm gonna get down there. Because i had a job. It's in december and then as it turns out my wife said. Hey i put for your birthday put together a trip for you and your dad to go down and spend a couple of days at kitty hawk and be there on the seventeenth and she'd actually only set up for a couple of days and my dad said well. This is wonderful but if we're going to go we might as well go for the whole time. And i think it was a five day celebration so worked it all out. I begged my boss to please have a couple of extra days off and We were there for all the days of celebration. And i have to tell you there was nothing never been anything like it. I don't know if i don't know if you've ever been to any of the celebrations but that one and of course was worldwide as far as the publicity for it but i can't remember how many people they said were there but the thing about it is i saw every kind of playing you can think of especially military plane fly over during those days. 'cause there was an air show every day and let's see also saw a lot of famous aviation people so the great thing was being able to see. Neil armstrong john glenn bob who hoover patty wag staff any number of people who were being honored that week And then on the actual seventeenth john travolta introduce president george w bush and he made a speech on the seventeenth of course out of all those days. Which day was the ugly rainy day. Yes it was the seventeenth. It was cold. It was rainy The attempt to do the flight at ten thirty five did not go off like it was supposed to. But i was so glad that i was there so now. I'm just curious. And i don't know the answer to this question. The wright brothers choose that location because they were building the airplane in dayton. Is that correct. That is correct. Actually wilbur wrote to the national weather service. And said hey. We're looking for replace. That has a lot of wind and his isolated and they could do their experiments in in private. Kitty hawk was a bonus because all the sand dunes. Which makes it a lot easier if you have an accident while you're trying to fly instead of trying to land on hard ground Which is essentially what they had in ohio flat hard ground right so they had gotten a number of different places they could try and they went ahead and wrote to the postmaster down in kittyhawk in he basically said hey. If you come down here. We'll do everything we can to help you find a pleasant group of people and we look forward to it so they basically took them up on that offer. So now when did you. Did you start the first flight organization. No no no under current president but the first flight organization or now you got me saying it's the first flight society actually started in nineteen twenty seven as the kill devil hills memorial creation. I hope i said that right. It's changed names a few times but yes Nine thousand twenty seven kill devil hills memorial association basically what it was was a group of about forty six businessmen put together by a newspaper publisher named W sunders who said hey. Let's let's this an important place. Let's get a memorial built. You know and this is something that would be seeing nationwide and would also you know side benefit is would be reason for people to come and visit each daughter bax back. At that time there was no bridge over to the outer banks from the mainland. You had to take a boat a really. Oh yeah you know. And that was the same. As in the time of the wright brothers. They had to take boats with crates of all their parts for their their planes and it was quite the trip and and even the first when they were building the memorial and people were coming down and they were dedicating. It was a heck of a trip train rides boat rides. You know wasn't like let's just get on a plane. Fly there because even at that time it was pretty it was just. There wasn't a lot of people just going to go up and

New development in US, Russia uranium deal
"Pending between United States and Russia for some years now has been the importation into the U. S of Russian uranium is the subject of an ongoing anti dumping case. We welcome now the secretary of the U. S. Department commerce, He's Wilbur Ross with an important development. In the case of Mr Secretary. Thank you so much for being here. There's a development today. What is it? Well, the development is we have re negotiated with the Russians, atomic people. The energy contract for uranium coming into the US over the next 20 years. The original agreement, the old agreement had been scheduled to expire very shortly. So that no one replaces. That reduces annually the percentage of uranium that the Russians can supply to the U. S. And changes some technical features. So that now reprocessed two little uranium coming in accounts in the quota. So the net effect of this Will be to strengthen the US uranium producing industry and US uranium refining, but to do it in a very gradual way. It does not have any material impact on electric utility rates for those utilities that I use in uranium. So Mr Second give us a sense from two points of view. One is the industry in the United States that is uranium production industry what it does for them, but then also longer term strategically for the United States and its energy policy. What does it do for United States? Energy policy has several important components. One his national security, There's obviously a national security risk. To the degree that our electric power industry depends upon Russia as a source of throwing material. This is an even more direct national security risk, as our navy depends on foreign sources, such as Russia for the nuclear submarines that we have Going about in the ocean, so the way to deal with all that there's tohave, a healthier domestic industry. Do we have the wherewithal to supply the amounts of uranium? The other was we lost. That is say, I guess a different way of putting it is the price going to go up? You said it's going to be brought in gradually over time. But you expect this will actually support the price of uranium to the utilities. Well, what we're doing is reducing the Russian content from about 20% to about 17% directly, and then we're making the other technical changes. And that change occurs over a period of years. So you're talking a very small portion of the utilities, input and uranium. For nuclear power is only a small portion. They could throw around 20% of the total power so it will not be noticeable. Especially since there's such volatility in the prices of the other sources of power, namely oil, not true gas and coal. So this will get not noticeable to the consumer, but it would be very noticeable to the US producers. So I understand Mr Secretary. Why this would be helpful to us producers and I understand your point about strategic strategic significance for United States. What was in it for Russian? Put it directly. What did they get out of this deal? Well, what they get out of the deal was assurance of a stable relationship here for many years to come the alternative to this suspension agreement. Would have been for us to bring a 2 32 proceeding and potentially imposed tariffs, quotas or other remedial measures. So what it gives everybody on both sides is assurance about what are the rules of the game. How much material will come in from Russia? How much material will not come in from Russia? And therefore it should stabilize things, both from the U. S point of view and the Russian point of view. Let's turn from Russia.
Haunted Places: Ghost Stories
"My name is Johnson and the story I'm about to tell you recounts the worst evening of my twenty six years. Ironically the few friends I have discussed it with maintain that nothing happened that night say for luggage mishap. I hope to convince you otherwise. Not Guilty. That was how it began with the verdict read aloud to the crowded courtroom on a dark after noon in December. I sprang to my feet already grinning with relief. I was very to hear it though not for the same reason as my client the accused man such a short distance down the table wearing an inscrutable expression he had pale alabaster skin caused black has great across a high forehead and dark is set to deep into his skull but far worse than the. Face of John Turk was the crimes he was accused of as the private secretary for the defense. I had been in the courtroom for every day of the proceedings I had listened for ten days as the gentlemen for the prosecution described his crimes in detail how he dismembered his poor victim with no sign of remorse and then cramped her with line into. Ironically John Turks wickedness made our jobs that much easier. It was clear to everyone that he was guilty. Is only chance of escaping the gallows was a plea of insanity. Personally I would have been happy to see him hang even though my firm was representing him. But I was far less interested in the verdict than the next words out of the chief justice's mouth. Court adjourned. In no time at all, I was hurrying across the thoroughfare toward the offices of my employer to deliver the news. There was a chill in the air and a soft snow had begun to fall. This only served to brighter my spirit's further reminding me of the holiday that awaited. This time tomorrow I would be gliding through the Alps with a set of skis beneath my feet. My employer. Mr. Wilbur was seated behind his giant barristers desk perusing the file fron next case. He didn't look up as I entered and received the verdict with little more than a nod. Under different circumstances I would have been put out by his lack of interest considering that I had just devoted many sleepless nights to his case but I attributed his lack of enthusiasm to the fact that like the rest of us he would've enjoyed seeing his clients hang. Wraps the thing up just-in-time will brim said finally putting down his quill your getting away for Christmas on through the Alps. Was it. That's right I. told him. There is one thing I wanted to ask you would you mind lending me one of your kitbags? I. Didn't have time to pick one up and I leave before the shops open doll have Henry send one over tonight he said before I could finish. Then now get out of here before I find more work for you to do. I had a quick dinner at the club and the underground bloomsbury. I been renting a floor in an old house there rather cheerless place with big drafty rooms. When I arrived, there were only a few lights on in the windows and they stead at me like is set in deep dark sockets. My Landlady Mrs Monks was waiting for me in the hallway. She was shielding candle with one hand and had clearly been enjoying nightcap. This come by a man from Mr Wilburn. Sir She said and pointed to the kit bag on the landing. It was one of those large canvas duffle bags with the brass handle and padlock I was a bit surprised at the sight of it for it was quite lumpy in threadbare for the luggage of a London barrister but it was exceptionally large and looked I would suit my purposes quite nicely. I took the bag and continued up with the floor directly beneath mine was vacant, which was nice as it allowed me to work late into the night without fear of waking any neighbors. As I passed it on the stairwell my eyes glided down the hallway. It was fair say for the shadows and a few wires for picture frames still protruding from the wall. At lost I, reached my own flaw, the landing lead directly into a short hallway with the door to my bedroom at one end and an open sitting area at the other further on there was a very small kitchen with little more than a sink and stove. "One thing. You can hang your hat on you bunting, you'd take to the Bank the end of the shutdown. Doesn't mean the beginning of the shut up. There's going to be more yacking about all of this the yacking that I think gathered. Deserved amount of attention. This past week was when Wilbur Ross US commerce secretary secretary of commerce, and a multimillionaire industrialist was asked what was his opinion about federal workers who during the shutdown were being forced to two times resort to food banks and other ways of supporting them selves and their families. A no they are in. I don't really quite understand why because as I mentioned before the obligations that they would undertake Sayeh borrowing from the Bank or credit union are in effect. Federally guaranteed. So the thirty days of pay that some people will be out. There's no real reason why they shouldn't be able to get a loan against it. There was a lot of criticism of Wilbur Ross for saying that. But maybe he had a good reason. Are you a federal employee hurt by the government shutdown? Have you endured the humiliation visiting food Bank? But being threatened with eviction. Well, he's good news. Hi, I'm Wilbur Ross. And if you're afraid of loan from banker credit union will take too long, you're right. But you want to hear.

And he said he didn't understand why the federal workers are all going to food pantries to get food for their families when they get just down alone. Great to get food. I don't really quite understand why. Because as I mentioned before the obligations that they would undertake Sayeh borrowing from the Bank or credit union or in effect. Federally guaranteed. Okay. So you're saying go get a loan you if you don't have getting paid. You are guaranteed that you will be paid by the federal government. So they go to the Bank and you get along. Wait in line for food. Does it take you to get a loan done alone? Right. Oh, I haven't even gotten to that part yet holda. I've just saying you can go to the food pantry Wilbert. I never been to if we pantry. First of all, you go to get the food you go home. You eat the food. You go to the Bank you fill out paperwork, and then they do a credit report. And then they do all this other stuff with you. And then they find out you're not getting paychecks it, right? And then they go your kids federal guaranteed. You'll eventually get a paycheck. But we'll get you your loan in six weeks. Meanwhile, the food pantry gave you your apples to date. Then you get to eat. I mean, this is so simple. This has gotten. I cannot believe how completely out of touch is so much. At this point, Mike, we are joined by a gentleman who has been here before he's become a good friend of this program and a noted historian round the country, Mr. William Hazel, grove and Williams. Good to have you back with us against her. Thank you for having me. Well, the occasion of this. Visit is your brand new book from Prometheus books. Right. Brothers wrong story. How Wilbur solve the problem of man flight Wilbur, right? Well, I it's a. It is a I opening tail here told most of us grew up thinking, Wilbur and Orville did this whole thing together. And they were all buddy-buddies this marvelous family, and this book was to great lengths to disprove all that. But I the first question out of the box tweet. I think has to be why how did you? Discover what made you put this book together. You know, I read David McCullough's book guy, and I love David McCullough seventeen seventy six Samuel Adams. I read the book and the Wright brothers and left me cold. I'm from Regina. I used to go to Kitty Hawk as a kid. We vacation North Carolina a lot and finding the right memorial. Many. Parents was very familiar with the story. I felt like I was reading a child's, but goes just the same old story. So my motivation was you know, what let's find out. These guys really were. So I got the papers of Wilburn oval right there about two feet tall bound started going through it. And I didn't start out to say Wilbur Wright, invented the plane. I didn't start out what I started out with just to see what their personal like what? But what I quickly realized. In fact, Wilbur was the man who has van just plain. So I mean, this is this a pretty controversial premise, or there are a lot of people out there that disagree with someone your takes on this book. Well, I get a lot more pushback Sonian institute had me write a two page article for the Smithsonian magazine came out in December, which is amazing to me because as you know, there's a huge dispute with the Smithsonian with the Wright brothers that had oral sending the plane over to Britain for twenty years, which is a whole story unto itself. So so they fell in behind the book, and then the the reviews from the big trade, publishers weekly Qurqus, booklets, they were all very supportive of the book and then aviation heavyweights seen some of them. Thank god. Somebody finally said the way it really was. Well, part of the deal is and I must honestly say to you. I wasn't really aware of this. Many of us grew up accepting the fact that will burn Orville. No their age differences. But it was almost like they report trade as twin brothers. You know that always happy and harmony and what exactly it's called the right and miss basically. It's at least that's what I call it where you know, these guys were joined at the hit they did everything together. Now, the first problem that is everything that happens with humans any great breakthrough is largely the result of one person. Okay. Wilbur wright. He has a three-year depression where he comes out of it absorbed with the idea of trying to fly. He then contacts Saudi an institute to get all the known data. He then current tax. The weather bureau finds out that Kitty Hawk North Carolina has wins that are constant breaking Goto. And then he does something else. Here's the smoking gun. He knew she was the aeronautical scientist of his time. He gets a letter from this bike mechanic. Okay. That's all you know, Wilbur Wright is at this point. And he responds to him. He sees something there. This becomes a five hundred letter correspondence where they work out the head cracking physics of flight now, normal Wilbur and active Chinook, and then this is probably be of interest to your listeners Wilburton, build a plane, a glider and he goes down to Kitty Hawk alone. So when did his brother's start getting involved in this process? Okay. Great question. So what happened is Wilbur goes down to Kitty Hawk gets all setup or hold joins them there now or is a gifted mechanic. He Keith does have the ability to inventing, but he doesn't have this genius. That Wilbur has this sort of God-given engineering genius. So he joins them down there. But you know, or will not fly until nineteen o two. What will make hundreds of flights before that go gliding flights down and Kitty Hawk? So he does join him eventually, but it's always wilburs mission. Wilbur is the man who's pushing this ahead and making the breakthroughs and. A handle here just a little bit. But when they are finally together there at Kitty Hawk they're trading off and taking the exploratory flights and whatnot. And almost is quite by accident. That Orville is the guy in the plane when they get the first successful little flight, and there's a picture taken. Right. Exactly. On December seventeenth nineteen hundred three. It's about twenty five degrees. Twenty mile an hour wind. Okay. What happened on December fourteenth? They coin and Wilbur flies. I okay. So he goes up the plane goes up and down. All right. So it doesn't work out. So it's Oracle's turns on December seventeenth as you rightly said he's in the plane. It goes up for twelve seconds incomes down. Now that would have been as far as over concerned. But what happened John was there with a big camera? He he takes a picture now because of technology, they don't even know this picture exists. All right. So then a rather Wilbur flies for a four minute. Now, that's the first full minutes. Oh controlled flight. And by the way, when we talk about who invented the plane, we're talking about who invented the controls wilburs patent is for the control of airplane out there playing. All right. So they go back to Dayton, Ohio, and they developed this picture founded this picture comes through and it shows the plane flying Orville, well that goes around the world and everybody automatically since Orval invented the plane because of this picture from December seventeenth nineteen zero three I to back up just a little bit. Because earlier you said Wilbur had been in a deep depression, and then he came out of there wanting to pursue flying. What I mean? What was his motivating factor? Where did it come from? Where he all sudden wanted to fly. Great question. Okay. There's a man named Oliver crook hall. And he was the town bully Wilbur is seventeen. He's headed for Yale. He's a really smart student the planet hockey all recall, who by the way will be eventually electrocuted as a mass murderer. He smashes wilburs jaw with a hockey. Stick Wilbur has offered to complications his mother's dying. He goes in the house for three years and goes into this dark night assault. Okay. During this time man, named Adeline fall in Germany. He's flying. Yes. Knickers? He puts on wings on his back and jumps off cliffs. He called the Byrd, man. And all the Chicago papers, all the papers all over the country. Cover him. We'll reach skinny enthralled the flight Lowenthal kills himself. But he says one thing somebody must carry this on Wilbur at that point. He becomes his raison d'etre why? Because he's really a guy. He's almost like an artist without a calling. He wrote a letter saying, you know, I don't like business like the life of the mind, but I don't know what I want to do. So this this grabs onto as his life mission. And so this is where he starts reading all the books in Bishop Milton his father's library, which actually include a lot of books on animals and birds because Wilbur has the theory that if he studied birds and how they fi- then that can be the key demand flight, and again, we're back up for just a moment in that grass, but the family life that is portrayed than we are aware of you mentioned the Bishop away from home a lot, but a very far -tarian guy. And this this too has rather falsely been portrayed to us. As this this one being of happy people, right? We started happy these life sort of family, but it's simply accurate Bishop Milton was as you say in ever overbearing, man, he wanted his two sons and his daughter Catherine home for him when he came home from traveling. You also told him he said the world is evil the world is evil. So we must present a United front to the world trust, no one outside the family. Well, this begins whole sorta whitewash history where everybody's equal. And you don't nobody's more than anybody else? And you know, the poor sister, Catherine she gets stuck really being brought back as his dead wife having to look after Donnelly Wilburn ov- on by the way, all three kids drop out of high school. And nobody moves out the house. I mean today you this is a very strange family. Okay. But but they're very insular, very secretive. So Bishop Milton ensures, but we should know Mossel let's play for hand. When he writes a letter to Wilbur saying, you know, what you have to be careful because without you. Or will is nothing. I mean, it's a very brutal letter. Same letter to Catherine saying that Wilbur is everything. So he knows Wilbert has this incredible genius. The he's one in a million person is actually going to solve flight, and that you know, Orval essentially as along for the ride. I have to ask were you surprised when you were looking into some of this, and realizing how much was kinda hit in in that Wilbur was the one responsible was I was in, you know, it's funny because it's all in the list. Now, let's talk about why. This miss started man named Fred Kelly. Okay. Wilbur dies went in nineteen twelve from typhoid fever. Or will listen nineteen forty eight in nineteen forty two though, there's a guy named Fred Kelly who is working on your biography. Hired by oracle who says to him I have to approve every single page. Okay. So Kelly knows that he's got a paint a picture of. They were totally equal that everything on the flight was equal. We've been dead for thirty years at this point. And so finally when this Fred Kelly biography is published it becomes the bible of the Wright brothers. But he's totally skewed. It's called also the biography. The white brothers authorized by overwrite and Orville Wright's name appears six hundred times wilburs name appears three hundred and this is where the right mess really began with this sort of skewed by graffiti, and subsequent historians apparently have pretty much bought into that. Until you have come along here with the rent brothers wrong story. Yeah. I'm amazed. I read all the biographies, I could get my hands on. And there are some good buying if you got there. But nobody nobody went after that said, you know, what the how did this happen? How did this by our if you get produced by this man, who you know, who say I have to approve it. You know, it didn't come out for a long time. You Charles Lindbergh got involved with hormone said lucky. You gotta have a biography out there. And and oracle was, you know, very reluctant to do it. And he finally with Fred Kelly. He Campbell with a bunch of times with Kelly. I'm not sure about this. And you know, it finally gets out there. But it again, it's skewed view of what happened because of a one time fifty percent credit and his brother has been dead since nineteen twelve and it's very difficult to respond from the grave that is researching absolutely chatting with William Hazel grove. He is the author of Wright brothers wrong story. How Wilbur Wright solve the problem of manned flight from our friends have premiered Theus books. It is available at all fine bookstores around for places like Amazon dotcom story of two missing tropic brothers who never left home high school dropouts made their living as bicycle mechanics, and they figured out the secret of manned flight..
