"It was really feeling like I interested the inner dialog of this journey without it being a surprise to discover. You felt like you were going along in that decision making. Yeah. I love the movie. It's a beautiful movie. You said it was really hard to raise the money for this film. Why? You know, I don't know. I don't know. I mean, I think there's no question I'm a female director. And even though I was nominated for a DJ award with story of a girl, you know, it's not like it made a lot of money for people. It was a respected movie on lifetime, you know, which is not going to, you know, when you a lot of financial support for your next gig. I think it was it's a sweet movie, you know, which I think that in the world where it's just so hard to get people to go to a movie, often they want it to be possibly about a true story or a horror movie or something that you look at it and go, I know what that's going to be. And I think this movie demands more of you than that. And I do think that there's something weird about like sweet tales, even though I feel like what we need so much is sweetness in the world right now. I mean, not saccharine, like we're going to take you on a ride and we're going to give you some pain because there's definitely some pain in this movie, but like ultimately it's going to be hopeful and you're going to feel good about life afterwards. I think that's something that we're having trouble selling, even though I think it's what people brave. And I also think that what I heard a lot is execution dependent, which just means we don't know if you can do it. We don't know if you can cast it. You know, we don't know if you can do it. And I find that so shocking because I think everything is execution dependent, but I think it means something else in Hollywood that I didn't know at the time. But you know, we have 15 executive producers and we made the movie, you know? And I trust that it will find it's people, you know what I mean? Which is the good thing about, yeah, it was only in the theater for a week because that was the only that was the deal. It was only going to be that, but the fact that, you know, it's going to have a long life on streaming and that that feels good about what's happening in the world right now in movies. But even though it's kind of painful that we're not all together having an experience in the movie theater. Well, in this particular movie, I think it's a very intimate movie. You know, I don't necessarily want to be listening to somebody eating their popcorn next to me while I'm sort of feeling the feelings. But the third female director I've interviewed this season, Sean heder, who directed coda, Sarah Pauly, who directed women talking and it's so incredibly disheartening to hear the same thing over and over about women directors in this business. And I really hope that that changes a lot sooner than it's changing. Me too. Because these movies manner. Much of the movie is set on a flower farm. How did you find this flower farm? Where can we go see this flower farm in real life? Yeah, this flower farm exists. It is a working flower farm in Saunders town, Rhode Island. I think that's it. I might be wrong, but I know the town of wickford is where we shot the movie. And they were close by wickford, and it's called Robin hollow farm, and it is a family owned farm, a husband and wife, Mike Hutchinson, and Polly. And it is a stunning flower farm, and I was in Los Angeles in February of 2021. And I was desperate to find a flower farm. I knew I wanted to shoot in wickford, Rhode Island, because I love the town, and it was perfect, and I needed to find a flower farm, and I went online and I looked up a bunch of flower farms in Rhode Island, and this one really stood out at me in every way. And I called them, I cold called the farm on the day before Valentine's Day. And I called and busy of the year. I know, and Polly picked up the phone and I immediately launched into, I am curious, I can, I've got this movie that I want to shoot this summer and more island and I saw your flower farm online and it's so beautiful and might you consider letting me shoot there and she said she took a pause and she goes, well, you know, I'm gonna have my husband call you back because he's a little more knowledgeable about the film world than I am, but I did want to remind you that you are calling a flower farm the day before Valentine's Day. And I was like, oh, I got him so sorry. I hate Valentine's Day. I mean, I mean, I mean, I love Valentine's Day. I mean, and I was like, it was like, I was talking to some rockstar. But yeah, we met with them. That spring and they went for it. I mean, they let her shoot there in the summer of 20.

"Like make remain when they design the look. I designed the luck but this person executed. You know what i need. So it's it's awesome to hear how genuine generously you're sharing this haircut. No i it's so funny because like i think the the longer been doing this maury realize i guess so because the social media the importance of giving somebody the credit for what lie aides. So don't sometimes i think before social media just didn't think it was just like okay. This is a work that i did. Yeah without really realizing okay. Have to make sure i tag the color own because it's so not entirely on my part. It definitely is an intentionally. Something was ever missed in my black exactly. Like i have to make sure somebody had asked me about a look for lucy. And i'm like no. No no i had given her that haircut but somebody else that appearance because you know i would never wanna get on. Somebody's bad side. It's like i would never want to take credit for something i didn't do. You certainly get and you because because because you deserve credit for what you did do you know and you wanna like claim it and you know. It's it's an awkward thing you know. It's for artists. Always so difficult to claim what you own and what you've created. Yeah yeah yeah yeah. Yeah especially when. It's like a collaboration. Because i feel like for me as a department head. I love having a team where we can. I love having a team where we all have different strains so that we know when something comes up you're able to pull for each be like what do you think about whatever it is whether it's a period thing whether it's a wig thing whatever it is but you're able to work together yeah so then at that point when somebody's asking who did this and like well we own did. Yeah yeah yeah. It's true and that's why it's so when when you're nominated for the emmy. Do you submit one episode. Yes of course yes they one episode and you have or the progress of the department head as a department head which episode you would like to Submit to be considered over. Which was this one nominated. Which so this is episode six. Which i believe is titled what is in the box and the funny thing is even the were nominated for contemporary art showing. We actually had like three or four different flashbacks of lakes periods. So that was you know it was kind of cool. This show a little bit variety even though it is contemporary. You know. I think that's obviously are strain that Yeah well speaking of contemporary. Let's talk about judith. Light who is the ultimate on my son. I have been watching. Who's the boss. We watched two episodes every day. I know it was so funny. When i had to had to binge the politician i was like my son walked by and he was like what she's we wasn't. Who's the marketing eight. And i'm like. Yeah he's like sh that's her and i'm like oh she's good. She looks amazing. So can we said. I mean i've never heard a bad thing about judith. Light and i. She is a force her. Jean smart could take over the world. I feel like right. why can't the president's. Yeah absolutely i would take on. Next twelve years of their presidency would love it. She's the best so what was working you like that. It was great it was it was really funny because when we first started striking hear an alarm going i can't y- okay great. I regret of so when we first started just finished west side story and started the politician in on west side story Oh who was an actress at worked closely with judah flights somehow shared he heard about. I think tim nye said when we first met her. And she's like we've heard great things about you guys. Let's get started and reggie to slight had heard about from the west side story actor yes only got nominated who techs judith light. I'm like okay that alone that's awesome. She's so classy she is she really really is but so when we got talking to her we understood gave us a little bit of where her character is going. We knew about the threatful we. We didn't know everything else that was that was gonna come along with it so it's a matter of like trying to figure out what's like a classic look for you know politician for politician but also you would. Who's also sexy. They wanna get busy way. Yeah yeah we so so we you know so we. We ended up getting a wickford just because she was going to be so much. We like to keep as much time. So they're not sitting in our chair for so long rights and we. We decided on the length. I gave the the wig haircut and between. Tim normally did her every day of what between the three of us. We decided you know what tim tim's last name. Tim harvey party. Sorry sorry yeah you need to beat him. Okay hose politician. He's been on so many things here on sex and the city with us. As well the reboot sex in the city as well but he's such a great you such a great person. It's not just here but it's like his soul is beautiful any so much fun but But is so. He was a key on the politician. Okay in heaven judith. Got along so great. It was like they were the funniest things to in the trailer everyday together. Oh my gosh. It was so funny even if it was two. Am or midnight labs. Energy is just unless how does she know. She. they're great but Yeah so between the three of us. We kinda just figured out. We didn't want anything to stiff. It had to move around so she can play with it. Yeah and i think we're able to figure that out. We changed it a little bit throughout the season. You know just so because they think also maybe some actors love actors but you know you can get bored doing the same of course every day for Six and the character allowed us to be able to kind of change it a little bit so sometimes a little bit more textured a little bit more toss old In other times a bit more you know more controlled but for the most part it was just trying to find like kind of i. Guess a love for her. Yeah yes and it just always fell back in place. It was perfect. Were they're extensions. Or is that all her hair or did you put actually living awake. Okay got it moves like natural hair. It was flea rack. Yeah very well made wig wig associate shared here in new york and In la week associated greet beautiful relenting and then bet has a personal. Yeah yup hey matt miller okay. Okay wilson does her okay and then she had the bangs. The john hard baby not a joke. Banks are not a joke. Though the banks that i dream about. It's so funny. Because she had a very look. You know i think. Matt i did ask a couple of questions about her. Look in order to submit the episode and he said that he did do a transition because she becomes you know she starts her relationship with a bright characters name but the ripple the third character in bed with judith light character guess out a little bit and goes to bed midland scarcer here actually kind of loosens up and she becomes a little. Were sexy hair midway there. That's great thank god. They've got it. It's amazing and so so now you're on sex and the city you're on and just like that that's where you are right now. Okay and are you working with serge and stuff there or how yes he. So he's the one. That's very busy today. So sarah jessica. Parker has the first half of the day. She has a lot of things on our old surgeons businesses five in the morning today which surgeon nor mont for our listeners. Don't kief close legendary..

She loves wickford Ron mckellen not not even not even mick saying that his his mic last name different than mcdonald's. Joke ron mckellen. That's his name. Some interesting facts about mcdonald's mcflurry okay. Do you know why this is so weird. Because it fits to the machine. They use a disturbing one hundred percent. I'm glad you know that. My wife worked at mcdonalds. Oh mayo or is it teenager. That i currently make now really vancouver. Bc mcdon- twenty. Four hour on. I've been driving hoover mcdonalds. Have you really launched one on my hotel so that one. So that one the one by the rats so i don't know if you guys know but apparently they have different flavors internationally. Did you guys know really. Yeah so i choose. There's my dad text me and said wrong. Hot coffee is a crap lawsuit listening as popping. He thinks deeds various. That'd be delirious. Detail pop legit lawsuit pickle lawsuit not so much. This lady got the pick lawsuit. Hot pickle fell burger burner ladies lip. She sued okay. That you want one. I believe food cold richer. My dad told me about that lawsuit in ninety seven. I'm curious just after the mcflurry is now. Here's papa deeds. Refutable is behind the coffee. I'm pretty sure it's my dad like anything that he's economies rude as a silly lawsuit which i don't disagree with them on. I think i think but i was. I recently listen to a podcast about the hot coffee lawsuit and all the details kind of change. My mind third degree sits on this lady's face. He's gone mike. Why in the world is as coffee. Need to be. Why her face I don't think she went over a bump in like. Oh okay. Yeah okay but she likes severely destroyed face and i just feel bad that she got so much hate versus this like billion dollar corporation. That sucks everyone recognizes. It's because it's like a common sense thing like he's hot. Yeah no crap. you're supposed to be. I was gonna say that's kind of what i was like. Well do you accept the risks as soon as you reach your hand out the window every my next crap lawsuit hot all caps coffee and hot pickle crap crap crap wrong. I like yours as research. He's like stupid like some feedback. Like this i get where he's coming from point. Yeah we've until. I heard the details. That's the funniest text i've ever got so there's a couple other things other than the spoon being able to fit okay shoulders more. Yeah it's sturdy spoon to pretty scientifically designed this spoon. I don't know if he's not so according to this interview that they had there are a few different reasons for the design. They start with the fact that it's not just a spoon but it's actually dister all the chunky goodness together with us. They also say that adding to their solutions. It's hollow because it says plastic and compromises and doesn't compromise on strength fits well she verse around. Basically it also insulates. I'm just here. Say it's a roy. Here's the best marketing. It insulates your hand. Waco atallah because that is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. Life is insulate us really because cutlery usually when when i screamed my hands as a bonus got one more as a bonus. The square shape is also easier to pack and ship so case he believes like your hand to the one that makes marketing. That's why you've had marketing for my for what. That's why that's why. I use a straw to pick up things coca. No that's stupid dumb ray. Ever yeah all right. Here's going to be a true and false that i feel like this guys. I'm i'm so as you don't even ask we're false. The us version of mcflurry is better for you false. My heart wants to say false because you hear all the time that like the european brands like. We have seared ahi tuna at our mcdonald's in japan some fancy but because i think this is like i'm gonna say true to say it's better for you. It's actually false very good. thank you the. Us version is pretty bad. So it's packed with five hundred and ten calories versus basically melted garbage. Melted airlink frozen. Five hundred mcflurry. Five hundred and ten calories seventeen grams of fat and opping sixty four grams of sugar. I'm not mad at the fat thing versus like a uk. One is what they're going up against. Two hundred sixty seven calories nine point one grams of fat and thirty four grand but does it taste as good so pretty much like half of everything how. How why because they had wanted ice cream because the ice cream because ice cream because they use sure bay. I don't know all right. So last one here i have a. Here's why the machines are down. This is one that i thought was interesting. This was on match dot com dot com mash potato mash very reputable journalistic in match dotcom great journalistic integrity and you've heard of their like super. Oh so great actually have. Apparently one problem. Is that the ice ice cream. Machines are really really hard to clean have you. Every night they go through. An automated cleaning program takes four hours to complete. And that's a lot of downtime. Maybe your your wife can need. Shoot me a text. Yeah on the cleaning practices of ice cream issues four hours because it seems like a lot cleaner probably putting the. She's probably not even more than that. It takes eleven step process just to get the machine prepped for the cleaning cycle and that takes a lotta dissembling soaking cleaning which means that some teenagers are. Correct the cleaning because they started doing like no. We're not not and you're getting moldy milk. I gary i. I would do that at least hardly clean. Nestle notes down so according to employees if it were at any stage Even in the beginning of the process they were just tell customers at the machine was down and if it was just cleaning does it would just be quote down But you know at twenty four hour. Wait my wife. Said and is why i married her. I'm.

I think it's about like the desperation surf you know you've got one more after this one and you've got no means on next week when the objection comes in you don't handle it well because your mindset is wrong you don't think straight you think about making a sale instead of making a decision so you start trying to push them down the path that you want them to go down instead of helping them to make the decision and i think it just helps you like just helps you with the mindset of of how you handle a conversation. Talk to me about how you're analyzing the performance of each marketer using the same kpi's for each campaign are you evaluating the performance of market the same way. That's she's actually one of the things. I think he's ready to gordon. You can with some platform. Say particularly as i say social platforms. You can absolutely build campaign centrally but two then expects the same. Kpi's and particularly the campaign. The same metrics isn't going to happen from country to country so if you look european countries the response rates lower than states A lot of marketing activities. I'm that's partly due to sort of this european restaurants to shed either so lead generation can actually be quite difficult and we see all the clients for example running email marketing campaigns where they'll get very different results from country to country not because the campaigns federal were h. country but primarily because individual engineers in different countries a more willing less willing to share that data interesting so at the end of the day when you're evaluating what countries you should be expanding into. How do you know what are the countries where you're going to see positive performance. And how do you vet the efficacy of your marketing. It seems like that's a big risk of saying. Hey we're going to go into france and spain because there is a cluster of marketing executives with the example that we used before but as it turns out. The conversion rates are terrible that market. How do you validate those conversion rates before you spend all the time to international as your product but you discount. It's not always possible to know how successful any product will be anyone different country so i think you've got to all the research you've got to lay the plans you've got to understand what customer acquisition costs. For example in your business you could afford to remain profitable and accept the actually that will vary from country to country on some countries may be more profitable than others but the key is to make sure you start because your efforts on the countries where you can make more money and i think interestingly what i have more from my european pods is that america is the toughest market to crack rather than being a market where the language is different. Or the coaches right different. Actually it seems like it's not just your big different from america but also europeans find america. Pretty tough to yeah. I'm sure it works. Both ways shirt works multiple different ways. It's not just a binary. Us and the rest of the world but think about entering the chinese market obviously going to be incredibly challenging multiple different languages currencies culture. Is there a way to mitigate some of the risk when you're thinking about launching into a new market do you test your marketing channels without the product. Actually being there to understand what your response rates are can you do. A soft version of translation and mitigate some of the cost. What are some of the ways. Understand whether you're new market is going to be successful before you invest time capital and resources into international. Is it yeah absolutely. I think that's a really good approaches to think about minimizing the investment required to actually guns do the initial tests so in your example of the sas company. Absolutely you know some of the things. I would probably be thinking about is. Can we do a test launch without any translation so the executives that we'd be targeting that percents those would be happy to interact with the platform in english. Is that enough to give us useful test results. So it's finding those ways. Co launch cost is very important. Typically when you've got a physical products people enter market using distributors resellers. And that's a very classic way to minimize the cost because you can then stop building. Customer base with minimal investment and that will allow you to then gain the momentum that will then fund out me a much bigger pushing that market. So i think there's lots of ways you can actually reduce the risk by going in slow conducting trials and then once she say the things are working starting to scale out and sunday digital marketing. Makes it very easy to do. I think that's an important part to understand that there are potentially established companies in other markets. That you can partner with and it's not just about extending your existing product and having to rebuild everything and remark and understand the culture but there are firms and services that are specialized in international marketing. Like the napier group for example in the bbc tech center and there's also other companies that you can partner with to try to use your services as a product extension of their existing brand at the end of the day internationalization. "Employees that got fired a media store. They sell physical media. They have a just pulled up the wikipedia on it. They've been around. Since one thousand nine hundred nine they were founded by brett wickford. Ricard arena pronounce that. They're headquartered in portland maine and they have eleven location. So there are small. New england north new england. I think may maine new hampshire right. So they're eleven. Locations is a small chain. But it's still a chain on. The less. The way that i the way that i read this and i've i've looked up a couple of different articles. Try to get some different angles and the employees think that they were fired because they were questioning the new mask policy that went into effect yesterday or would have gone into effect If the store hadn't closed on friday do we does. The article mentioned what the old policy was and then the new policy. What no it doesn't. But i i'm assuming it's like every other store where customers and employees all have to be masked up and Practice social distancing if possible. Right now the the two individuals that i saw on wpro last night That's that was their Idea the reasonings behind their firing was because they were questioning and the boat throwing a temper tantrum throwing a little tantrum. And i'll can i if someone comes without a mask can i. Can i push him off to the next Cashier and well and it seems that they were that. Seems that they have a company email Group chat kind of thing. And i i haven't experienced. I don't know if you guys have been in a company big enough where they actually had these huge company-wide group emails get in there and they start throwing things around. They start complaining about some awful. They start complaining about Freaky friday dress up day or something like that because it's racist for some reason because everything is racist these days. I haven't experienced them. So i don't know what's going. Obviously they've had they have one of these and i'm thinking i'm thinking management got a good idea. What was what was going to take place from all of these angry texts and emails back and forth in group because Because they because they swear up and down the twitter on the on their on their on their twitter posts that it wasn't about the masks. So what was it about. Why did he fire twenty employees to close the store way. Maybe we'll talk about my ideas and what really happened here. We will but first. Let's go to the phones. We've got ingrid calling from i forget ingrid. Where are you calling from maryland maryland. Thank you and what's on your mind tonight and good Court loosen are on. I wanted to tell you that. Since i know that you're black from the internet So i was looking at court. Lesson our Since you know. I'm involved with their christopher campbell. Okay and when you were named as an issue party for his case then the next i i found out about it and posted about it on facebook and then the next day that's when you're busted by the fbi. But i don't think it's anything involved with that when you say was known by the as an interested party. What is that referring to. I'm not sure what that means that you got like a natural interesting camel stuff. I don't. I don't even know what that means. It even mean fat. I don't know. I i just post about. I hold on just a follow. What you're saying here. This is news to me ingrid. You're saying that. After christopher cantwell a former co host here who we actually had to fire because became a racist years ago and That's you know without recapping. All of the the history but Chris campbell who was sentenced to several years in prison for having a telegram chat with another racist online. A ridiculous case. He was definitely a political prisoner. I mean i don't support what he said. But i you know. I don't think he should have been put in prison over it Are you saying that after he was sentenced in january of this year that they then subsequently named me as some sort of interested financial interest. Yes they named her. The party i posted on facebook and the next day. That's when the crypto sex by the fbi. Lie 'cause melanin. And hope. I maybe one other person common to this ride. 'cause i was just joking at the time about the tamang coins. I have no idea what that could even mean note. is currently in mississippi. So he's very happy that you got out ends so cool all right. Take care of sending my best thank you. I have no idea what the financial interest in christopher catalog does. That mean that i had his wallet here at the house because you did help clean his house out house out. Yeah and that you know cost me four days of my life. So no good deed goes unpunished. Yeah the prophecy fulfils itself. I don't know what that has opposed. He i mean he didn't have any finance right. Yeah i mean he. He owed his attorney money He had a civil case and he couldn't afford to pay pay his attorney for that. He i you know i went and help clean his house out and we ship some of the stuff down to ingrid. That's his girlfriend We're was or whatever their current status but I don't get it that's weird. Yeah i don't like she's trying to tie that to somehow the day of the raid and i don't know my status with each other with chris. Sale is that i care about him. I think he's a tortured soul. Who i love him. You know as a as a as a minister of of peace. And i want to express that compassion towards him. that's my relationship with with christopher campbell. It sounds dangerously like me living in a cave harassing women. Let's in this next part is like you. He accomplished this by pulling open his red coat to reveal his nude body while waving around and pistol to scare off anyone who might want to stop him that you know no no that your pistol or you're happy to see me. Oh it's both okay exactly. Luckily that seems to be all. He did before fleeing back to his cave. in eighteen. Ninety two a sawmill worker andrew mcdowell drunkenly bludgeoned a coworker death with iraq. After he heard voices telling him to attack he was committed to an asylum but managed to escape vanish only five years after that murder. Another strange one followed nearby. John harbor was a prominent woodford citizen. Who went into wickford hollow. Just south of glastonbury hunt. He was shot by persons unknown but was found with his fully loaded gun just next to him and seemed to have in dragged several yards. Those who investigate his death were left wondering why he was so easily shot with a loaded gun and why his assailant would bother to put his gun next to him. After dragging him this murder has gone unsolved in will likely stay that way We're weird stuff. I'm liking it okay. So now let's get into the long trail disappearances now. The triangle has a history of thirty to forty disappearances over the years but five disappearances which took place between nineteen forty five in nineteen fifty fast people more than any others while some people suspect a serial killer others point the finger at paranormal activity.
