Fresh update on "whoopi goldberg" discussed on Black Love Matters

"We get shows like this about black men. What black man has been doing in 8 30s? That's why I love love life so much. Yeah, 'cause it was a different slant on it. Yeah. Anyhoo. Megan good, making good that she acted. Auto woman was good. I did appreciate the LB GT perspective that they have at the forefront that wasn't so stereotypical, right? It has to do with typical moments. But it was nice just to see it front and center. Yeah, you know, remind me of hattie, if she growing up. Yeah, it reminds me of hattie when hattie get her shit together. I don't know how to get her shit together shout out to the 20s. She typed it. I wasn't doing that foot shit for a very long time. I'm trying to say, I'm trying not to give it away, but Whoopi Goldberg was in it? Yeah. She would be understand the fucking assignment. Why do Whoopi and I have one week on her face? One age nothing. Whoopi looks absolutely amazing. And it's continue to act our ass off. Jasmine Guy. Jasmine Guy over there playing a Jamaican whitley. Great. I don't know if I believe Jasmine Guy is boo boo kitty. My mama though. Y'all know boo boo kitty from empire. She on there. I don't know if I believe that. I can kind of believe it, but the Jamaican accent. How'd you make an accident? My God Jamaica? No. Actually, before I start lying on her, from my dad said, no. I'm about to go to this. That's my guy. I feel like she's from Cleveland. She's from bloom. She's acting with her absence just back. Yes, she just met, yeah. I don't think she's Jamaican. Hey Siri, is Jasmine God Jamaican? Just put it as a guy and find out her Wikipedia. Jasmine Guy was civil rights black. Maybe she might hit us with a Creole, but that's just stereotype because she later she's lighter. But no, but she's acting well. The accent isn't she's acting so well that you're able to overlook the AdSense. Put it that way. You don't believe it narrows. No. Oh, here you go. We'll say a Hollywood's worst Jamaican accent. It's like a top ten list of Hollywood's fake Jamaican accent. He is, she didn't have to speak with an accent. Like she could have just been like, she'd been away from Jamaica so long she did it. Or they could have just had her slip into the say if she got upset or happy. And then you wouldn't have been able to notice it so bad, but they had her in her bag on the ass in the whole show, where it's just like, no. It was like one two three. I was like what? They say, Jasmine, guys, a female lead sounds like a predictably sounds predictably like Whitney going undercover to make. But she acted well. She did, but horrible Jamaican accent. I could only imagine, you know, imagine in the cast and call and then be like, Jasmine. We didn't need you to play it. Jasmine. No character is a Jamaican one. Yes. But one, two three. What the fuck? I got a tree. Jasmine just American, right? I shouldn't say. She's amazing. She was born in Boston. That's odd to me. This just revenge for all the British people who be playing black. Would you say girl? Down to black Brits. The black bursts become Detroit. That's just revenge. Taking all our good jobs. Acting jobs. Good job. Yes, from all the black men. Got me thinking that I need to go ahead and start getting some acting lessons because ain't no damn, but you know there's only one big man on there. Look, so little real move over, nigga. Oh, you got all you about to take a real bag of being 40 year old daddy. That's blurred bad. This is bad. 40 year old husband daddy. Jasmine got from Boston. For fucking roxbury. Bobby Brown to do. Yeah. Playing fucking one two three. Come on, come on, we lose it. We lose it. Focus. We'll see from our fluent. There's Collier heights. Yeah, just with that come from munchies. Don't play with her now. Jack too. I like Jasmine Guy. I do too, but I did not like that Jamaican accent. I knew I knew that a mile away was gonna be bad. The black girl, the thicker girl who was pretended to be in Jamaican that he sounded better. Yes. For her to make an asset. Even boo boo kitty when she slipped into her Jamaican. Yeah. I said, so they could hire a speech coach. Jazz might have said fuck that. Y'all don't get this. What I learned on YouTube. And I know they can do it in motherfucking interest. Oh, but. Oh, we're playing. What was his name in the wire? Who was like? Damn. It was a string of bell. Drink a bell. Oh, no, that was what's his name who played Avon. Well, Avon barksdale. Yeah. So it is Elba. The other interest that play on snow flaws. That nigga really played with us. If motherfucking Lamar, being a man, and then we don't forget one teardrop. Oh yeah. Oh no. Daniel Kaluuya from fucking get out and play our civil rights blacks leaders. The bad plan for us. If all these motherfuckers can play all these American ass accents, Jasmine Guy. Can do a fucking Jamaican accent. God damn. It ain't taking all that fucking jobs. Neonatal. They are. If you don't get out there, there's other black Americans who want to play black and white. Yes. Guess what I'm listening to. Then let's just go on a shout out 'cause we're not doing it. We'll come back and talk about Harlem. The Portland got to us. We ain't doing no service. Y'all want to know a good book. Now difa put me on. You know Columbus short, he got an auto audiobook on audible. Shut up. Go listen to it. It's called a short stories. Shut up. By Columbus short. You got a favorite excerpt. Damn. Damn, I know you read like a thousand plus a year. Please go listen to this audible book. I love all of these. What are you talking about? One of my favorite scenes is when Columbus shirts was talking about how he thought he was about to get fired from scandal, but shonda put him in his office and was like, you know, someone started sleeping with your wife, right? And he was like, what? And then another scene we saw him, he was fucking Britney Spears. And he was like, allegedly allegedly. I don't give it away. It's a whole scene about Britney Spears. Go listen to it. Columbus short. And to put in perspective, y'all know Will Smith audible is about 20 hours. Obama was about 30. Cicely Tyson was like 28. When I read heavy, it was about 19. Guess how long Columbus short life story is? How long? What's your thing here? Two and a half hours. Three hours. So fuck it up. So it's a quick read. I literally read it when I had insomnia. Listen to when I had a Sonya one night. I read the title listed in terrible. And I was literally in a bit of crying laughing and I was like, are you okay? I said, I am a Columbus is not. I'm trying to do the math on how many words this is. If one, they say a hundred words is equivalent to a minute of speaking. This is something three hours. In full of juice. The entire three hours. Short story, Columbia shorts, go ahead and read it with me all. All right, come on let's do this shout out on a Monday. We're gonna catch up on Apple podcasts, emails, voicemails, that way we are just the same baseline as we were wrapping up the entire year. So some of these are from a while back, but you know what? You sent them in and we gonna read them. Don't read them. We gonna listen to them, we don't do what we gotta do. So we got some Apple podcasts. The first one says here near from sounds like terror. And it says here Neil let me go ahead.

I don't think that every aggressive couldn't get it that way. They couldn't get let in florida they couldn't get elected. Strong, Black, and Hot Enough To Give You Second Degree Burns

"Lack women oprah beyond saying and all your favorite reaction means. I've heard people say they like their women like they like their coffee. Strong black hot enough to give you second degree burns. Careful what you wish for darius but the thing is not all black women are strong and even the ones that are strong aren't just that we doors open for us to especially with someone with biceps like michael jordan. Ads like michael jordan. Hare like michael b jordan but unfortunately a strong black woman stereotype is rained in american culture. It has a long history. About as old as morgan freeman and batty white combined now you may be wondering what is a strong black woman is the idea that black women are emotionally resilient naturally selfless to browns ask for help and can succeed with no resources so basically every care to play by viola davis. The irony is the strong black woman. Stereotype was started by black women to combat all the negative ones the in the aftermath of slavery there were really only to stereotypes of black women. You were either from sex temperatures jacksonville or a man who was just there to smother people in booze in response black suffragette mary. Church terrell point strong black woman motto listing as we climb and i get what she was going for butt lift as we climb even bodybuilders. Don't do both at the same time. You expect a black woman to do more than swertz nigger in his prime but overtime society shrank of black woman down to just her strikes and the popular conception now is that black women can bear and overcome any birth. We see all over our culture in movies like the color purple who my life. And how can we forget ghost. We're whoopi goldberg literally has to let a white man. U's her body to rub foreheads with his fiancee. Even when black women only have one line strong as hell move you will be moved. Damn at least let her say hello. Let's all say what's wrong with being perceived as strong. Isn't it a good thing. No not if black women destroy their mental and physical health trying to live up to it and not people think black women are so strong they make them do all the work on their own. Look stacey abrams. She helped democrats win georgia and before you knew it. Using active vaccine distribution the new york. Subway and kim and guy is marriage. The stereotype even reaches the doctor's office. Black women are less likely to be properly diagnosed. They have a much higher maternal mortality rate. And they're less likely to be believed about their symptoms and pay so a black woman basically has to be a doctor to know everything that's going on with her body and then convinced another doctor that that's what's happening. I was in. a car. Accident lacerations and internal bleeding a morphine drip and prep surgery stack. We'll get you a couple of bandaids. you'll be fine. What's so the next time you see a black woman struggling at work or trying to lift the box help her. Don't just stand there like you're about to see wonder woman in action in fact if you're in the new york area moving this week and i could use some help moving my couch because i'll be damned if i'm going to back lifting my own couch.

Diversity at the Oscars: The 2020 Race Isn’t Looking Any Better Than Last Time

"I feel like hell for the law and Michael to Michael for lying and get contraction I saw this French film of course later on so I was very excellent and might just make it to be honest it would not Maxis the prices for me you know at the very beginning of awards season three kicks off with three phone fast fan is Toronto in telluride at the end of the summer the beginning the full and then bounced off you start hearing people's reaction and this is the red slacks a waiting van and you're looking at pictures saying well they're all satin and a prominent films with African Americans the soon so would directed by women I didn't know if they were going to cross over the queue for that group of voters in a few years ago actually when when a post all the adults because so white we could get at round tables with the active the directors the writers and when we were putting together the actress round table there were absolutely no women of color who seems like they would even like to to get nominated and I remember and and we got pretty massively criticized rightly I take the blame for this to have an all white women's round table and and we changed direction after that but it was evident that the industry walking creating those films and I think it's easy to say if the cat in the for XP industry see both you and you have to tackle things in multiple directions I think the academy's has done a great deal to do that what we have is talking about this the other things the academy dot for instance mentorship program financing for education there are multiple patrols here that lead to this problem and she also looking at the ferry downstream and the cat in the wrong but you call take in isolation April Stephen has a great point we tend to look at the academy not that the academy shouldn't be accountable they should they're sort of the tip of the iceberg in many many ways what's your view of the academy that you focus so much attention on verses the industry I absolutely agree with Steve and that it's not just the economy it's not just the golden globes is not just a Baptist we need to go all the way back to the very beginning to the screenwriter stage and figure out again whose stories are being told and who is telling those stories when someone is sitting down with a blank page and findings front of them hoping that they have written about to write the next best picture you know what is the protagonist look like is it a tall leggy blonde from the Midwest because if so by the time we get the casting months the maybe years later then the only person you're thinking about is Scarlett Johannson or Jennifer Lawrence but then one has to ask what is their hair color have to do with how well they perform in that film right because that means then then Daya and Gina Rodriguez and other people won't even get an opportunity to audition just because of what's that in the mind set I absolutely agree that the economy is the very end of the line so we really need to start back at the beginning and find out what opportunities are being given to traditionally under represented communities not just with respect to race but also sexual orientation gender identity disability to get those films made from the very beginning and at the same time April you have written about the types of roles that black actors and actresses do get nominated for once they are cast once they are in that pipeline you wrote a piece in variety you talk about how the only black woman to be nominated for Best Actress was Cynthia Revo who plays Harriet Tubman in the film Harriet similarly Lupita nyong'o won an Oscar for her role in twelve years a slave but this year she was overlooked for the to care after she played in Jordan peels hit movie us talk about what you see is the pattern for how black actors and actresses get promoted and celebrated when they are in films it's a real problem and I think that Stephen touched on this a bit you know that that in their minds that even when they were sending up those round tables they didn't think that those you know particular performances were even going to cross over for women of color and so they were included in the panel and one must ask what kind of troops palatable to the economy to voters to film critics because the vast majority of winners especially for women of color and black women in film have all come from a place where the characters are experiencing significant trauma so inflamed women women living in abject poverty even Whoopi Goldberg who played the cookie skit side kick in ghosts and when the best supporting actress you know they were there were questions about whether she had mental health issues right the only black woman who's ever won for Best Actress is Halle berry in monster's ball and clearly she with the troubled character and so one has to say well are there only thing is that the economy fees you know that only a slave narrative that is palatable to again a majority white male voter membership and that's the movies that we see time and time again you know why is it that my pain the pain of my ancestors is entertaining for you that that is what you will award but when someone like Peter in young girl has to fully fleshed out characters in us she is snubbed for that role because we actually the very first of may off to be on the actress roundtable if you will be pizza it was a wonderful performance so it isn't shown true of actresses of color you know for the rack access to the email you'll you'll you'll call the mansion on college and terrific performance by Adam Sandler but is deceived official in the movie Sean movies don't tend to do well they lost to until movie was was one of the very few exceptions and this applies just as much to active in that applies just as much the film that win the Oscar for Best Picture DOT flight in the whole history of the office you call he had any comment is that where you thought I called think of a single is shown a picture of that as well on the other hand Schindler's list winter so this isn't shocked a criterion for the place to women of color let's talk about some more films that could have been nominated that didn't get nominated we've already mentioned Stephen you mentioned hustlers one of many movies with a cast of mostly women directed by a woman they got zero nominations this year fair fail to to cross over is you say let's get people to hang on I want to I want to give people a little bit of a listen to hustlers here we go Wall Street guys it's in this country stole from everybody working people lost everything one of these things back to jail the game is rigged and it does not reward people who play by the rules like robbing a bank except get the keys hunter Harrison vulture some people have suggested that Jennifer Lopez campaigning for the nomination too much might have played into her not getting an Oscar nomination for her role in hustlers what what are your thoughts on this film and on the reason why J. lo was overlooked I mean how search has a very special place in my heart because it is based on and your magazine story but outside of that I just enjoyed it I think it has a lot of momentum it's a lot of fine and I mean my favorite teen hustlers as winter for Lawrence's teaching Constance Wu how to strip essentially and it's just such a loving scene between two women who were just you know being friends with one another but at the same time I think the thing with jail is that I think when you're voting for and someone when an Oscar part of the sort of metric is that you have to know that how much they wanted and away and that they need it and with Jello she's already like an icon she is such a form I mean we also heard the Superbowl last week and so I think it actually might have been the opposite that maybe she did and maybe that there's been that shouldn't wanted I'm not for need it to be to sort of solidify her status in Hollywood or or in the world really but it I was really surprised by Jill rocketing nomination because she had gotten a lot of the precursors and her biggest competition is obviously Laura Dern who is the favorite to win for playing a lawyer in marriage story but for a lot of the season especially after hosters career in Toronto they were pretty head like neck and neck but I think the jail thing is that did that character of like a mama bear stripper was not really you know super palatable to a lot of people she dealt drugs and you know sort of engaged or Shoup's worked as sort of a pen been engaged in sex work but at the same time like that's not really a role that we see women especially winning Oscars for I think I wanna push back in Stevens point earlier that that you know the problem about the roles women when the colors spit specifically play in movies is that extends to everyone I don't really think that's true anything Custer's is in some ways an example of that that this was sort of a prickly story about women who are doing bad things and getting caught doing them and that's just not a movie that people see as an Oscar movie I think that's everyone's detriment what we got this voice mail from a listener sharing his opinion about the role that race and gender should or shouldn't play when it comes to Oscar nominations we got several responses along this theme listen IBM injury Oscar is I don't mind or don't care who the with gender of the person is or what color the person is I care about quality in the movie that's being produced I don't care what color they are what gender they are I don't think it matters Linda tweeted this is it just possible that there were no good movies made by people of color or women this year when will the best just be the best without conditions attached Stephen you go first and then April what's your response okay I just briefly want to respond to sing about Jennifer Lopez I we saw she did get nominated the best supporting actress before it could be a thirty two fax one is that movie is very unsentimental about her role and it had a different ending in the retention people would have like that for the cliche narrative the very strength of the film is resistant to that meeting as you said less palatable the second thing is when conformist so let you see the acting when he seems so real that you think this is just what they like the performances of look she made it so real the people football if you'd just what she's like it's one of the reasons Tom Hanks has been so rarely nominate a you got nominated this year but not for many many years he makes it look so easy well certainly we're seeing the film let's let's put J.

"McCormick we want to know because we don't want to work with those people I'm paraphrasing. well this is obviously the new Hollywood blacklist check a look at the old black list in case you forgot. after World War two well there was a communist scare in the USA as America and the Soviet Union were involved in a Cold War. nineteen forty seven the house committee on unamerican activities that doesn't exist anymore begin to interrogate Hollywood entertainment people on the suspicion that their work was communist inspired or funded by the Soviet Union. that moving gained media attention and writers and directors were held in contempt of Congress for refusing to testify before the H. Ronald Reagan was the president of the Screen Actors Guild at the time I write about this extensively in my book killing Reagan he was involved here in nineteen fifty two the Screen Actors Guild Reagan's union instructed studios to quote omit from the screen the names of writers and actors suspected of being communists at its height that lists grew to about three hundred people director Alfred Hitchcock defied the list hiring an associate producer to work on his TV show well the blacklist largely ended by ninety sixty but lives were ruined it was awful it should never happen in America prominent entertainers I got hurt Leonard Bernstein Orson Welles Charlie Chaplin Humphrey Bogart was even involved. so now McCormick in messing want to bring back a black list if you donate or support Donald Trump they don't want to work with you in Hollywood no you can't get a job well yesterday Whoopi Goldberg on her program the view scorch Debra messing saying Hey lady you better knock it off because you could wind up on a blacklist some day and that is very true black lists are on American and willing Gration note. coming up my message of the day. a young lady was looking to buy her first home in Texas the market.

I'm telling you before this character. There is no representation of a person of color in the future. He says I can't believe that. And so we have more conversation. We have more talking and about a week later, again, a call that says can you come in and talk to me. So I say, yeah. So I go in and Jean says, you know, what I thought you were kidding. He said, but you're absolutely right. So I had no he's I had no idea that that was I said, yeah. Because you know, he might be sensitive daisy. Yeah. Yes. I say, okay. I'm not gonna do it. And so I do everything I was doing and they say more. As a well. They said, okay. And my brother was funny and her cousin. So these these two women would speak in all kinds of dialects. Right. And just, you know, talk about what was happening in the world. And they'd it was just great. And then my brother would say. Something and then we'd all fall on the floor. Really? So. Yeah. So I didn't I never. Felt that I was funny per se, but I knew that I could be different personas. So it was very clear to them that there was an actor here. Okay. You know? And so we would watch the, you know, the Academy Awards, and I make my speech here. And we would my mother would take me to the movies. And so, you know, you'd go see Viva Las Vegas with, you know, Elvis Presley and then in the heat of the night, you know. And so. Everything that I was exposed to made me understand what I thought my path would be not to be famous, but just to be an actor. And then I moved to California because I'd never been to California had seen it on television. Yeah. Yeah. Quite young UN there. Right. Twenty one. Okay. Yeah. Twenty one twenty two and really sort of honed a lot of my chops working for different people. You know, the. The San Diego rap. Okay. I got got to play with them for a long time into lots of different stuff with them..

"Anyway. Honky gays. Christians who do like mega mega hands. I guess they like black Jews, and then a whole lot of them. I would think would you. I wouldn't. In fact, I'm trying to think if I've ever met one we'll be Goldberg. She's not actually stolen Jewish name. Yes. They're by. No this story laying on him. Okay. Won't be was going around. I don't even know what her real name is. It ain't Whoopi Goldberg. She's going around auditioning for parts, and so maybe sh she may have gone by Whoopi. But I don't think that's her given name our van stamps on that right now. So she's going to auditions right? And so her mother says you need to change your name to Goldberg and she says why she says because everybody this run in Hollywood is Jewish and so you'll just you'll fit in. Boy, I wouldn't think this Karen lane Johnson Charon, Elaine. Joe you can't you can't get more bland than that. I mean nothing wrong with you for. But I'm just talking about milk. Does doesn't sound like a black woman? Now, I really doesn't. Is that racist? Phil. What does it sounds like it sounds like white women? I'm going to school with I went to school with the Karen Johnson. Yeah. Karen johnson. Sounds like yeah. Some girl you'd go to school with or some soccer mom in Brentwood. Now Whoopi Goldberg her name is Karen Johnson is yes, carry the lane. John. Karen, Elaine Johnson. Yes. Boy, that's so white really. I never knew the name. I have no idea. But her mother says you got to change your name to something that'll be appealing to the Jews because they run Hollywood. So she came up with Whoopi Goldberg and the rest is history as they say some looking at some more this it's coming down to pike. I had a friend used to call it coming down to pipe. I didn't want to correct them. Anyway. So we got this who is as good Daniel p Horan. He is a father. I'm Catholic type with the robe and whole nine yards. And he's condemning. This so-called March for life often repulsive and futile. He calls it. It's basically a gathering for many right wing antiabortion hardliners, not consistent ethic of life. I e troop pro-lifers and teens to get a free trip to goof off at best in DC. I'm so deeply appalled. He writes on Twitter and disgusted by the racist. Shameful disrespectful behavior of the Catholic high school students, wearing mega hats and harassing a native American elder in Vietnam vet, none of that's true. Except the dudes of an a native American elder. Is not a Vietnam vet they weren't harassing him. He was harassing them. He says I'm so angry and yet not at all surprised that pervasive white supremacy exhibited. What is this about Trump? And what what about Trump is white supremacists? The dude has a daughter who's Jewish a son-in-law who's Jewish another daughter-in-law who's Jewish and a bunch of Jewish grandchildren. And he's supposed to be some white supremacists. Or are they going to be the first ones in the in the in the showers. And the final solution from Shaab. Hey, hey, little kids. Take him over here. Zhaodi come on FOX be real. This guy is not anywhere close to being white supremacists were racist. And then they say, well, he's anti gay and he's not anti gay either. The gay folks used to love him before he had an are after his name running for president. And so we have this. And you said, well, this is gonna this is gonna this is this is the proof. Spreme court today announced that it will allow the president. It's rarely enforced restrictions on transgender individuals serving in the Middle East. See what have to be doing a gay? Transgenders are not gay are they that's the whole point. You got a guy dressed up like a woman. But he's still a guy. Now my question is and this is where it gets. Conjugate my verbs. Like this guy in the game. Stop from last week. Remember that gun obviously, a dude. I mean, not even close to being a woman. I mean, the irony was that he tells the guy behind the counter because they called him, sir. Let's take this outside. Now kick your button show, you, sir. And I'm going well that sounds just like a lady doesn't it? And I often get threatened have my butt kicked by lady. What is this? So the guy's obviously a dude in a dress with a person some makeup on. And he's hacked off that somebody recognizes that she's a man man, and they call him, sir. But my question is though if he's dressed up as a woman does he still does he date women? And if he does that make him a lesbian or would it make him a translator Bian? Is that what it is? Okay. I I think I may have come upon a new term we can use ladies and gentlemen, a translates Byan. So if you've got a guy who's technically and genetically and plumbing wise guy dresses up like a woman, but then still wants to go out with women. He's a translator. I like. Okay. We'll get that. We'll get merriam Webster on that for next year data to the lexicon of a trans lesbian. And so it's very confusing to me 'cause used to be in the olden days when things were simple you had guys growing up. His guys you had women growing up as women, and then some of them would get together, and they would have children as as it's designed now again, that's not to say that if you want to be gay or you want to dress up in a dress or whatever it is. You wanna do that? I'm going to try to stop you not in the least I think to each his own. But don't expect me to stop being me. You say you want to be you? And that's great. But don't expect me to stop being me. If I come into contact or having an encounter with some guy who's six to some burly guy with Harry arms who's dressed in a dress and carrying a purse and got a lipstick. I'm gonna think it's a little odd. Is that? Okay. No. It's not. Okay. You should just accept that. Well, I will accept. I mean from what do you mean by accept? See this is the difference because the left wants to take you from tolerance. To acceptance. I'm good with tolerance. I'm as tolerant. As is the day is long. There are a lot of things in society. I tolerate. I.

"A robot at travels from Minneapolis to Roseville for super slow. It gets there in two weeks. Six six thirty five. Well, it seems you know, we let you listen to it yesterday. And I'm sure you saw the headlines Kevin Hart had kind of prickly interview with Michael straight hand on good Morning America had a less contentious one with Andy Cohen a couple of hours later that Andy seemed right with with what Gavin said, and I don't want to I want to go back through the Kevin Hart thing again. However, it leads us to the fact that the headlines coming out of righty a deadline Hollywood, all the big trades are the Oscars are almost officially moving on without a host. Yes. Lex you've been saying this since the beginning of the Kevin Hart scandal, you still all right with us. Good with this. I'm okay with this. Even though a Whoopie Goldberg actually said, you know, I'm game. They want me. I'm game Aquafina said the same thing crazy. Seriously, that might be kind of fun. Yeah. Yeah. But now, I'm for no host. I think we'll move the show along, and they don't even have the voice of God come down and say, all right. Here's your presenters. So and so and so and so and then roll right into it. Dawn. I really agree. I think that people are going to like this. They're going to see how much quicker the show is going to be and where you won't want to go back to having a host, really. Yeah. I don't know. I'm very old fashioned with this. I'm I'm still on the fence still don't quite know. I don't think that's the produce bits. They can still do have a producer have some fun with that. With has your have the stars tape different things, you know, but otherwise some of that stuff. On the fly volt. I retweeted this earlier Fogo one of the entertainment writers for the magazine wrote an article about how she's been covering entertainment for a while. And she loves award shows, she loves Oscars Grammys, but she said all of these award shows are need to change or they're gonna they're gonna go. I said this the way of inflatable furniture in the nineties, and it's true. I don't know what you do. But you do need to kind of re it does seem a little antiquated. These award shows the the structure is a little wooden. So maybe this is the first step. I don't know. I just I agreed Whoopi Whoopi Goldberg said she kind of feels like you need someone to kind of move things around or kind of move things along. Maybe I don't know. Maybe I'll be proven wrong, they if they do do this. Maybe I won't like it. Maybe if they have maybe if they have like three sets of big a listers that take chunks of the show. Oh, you know what? I mean a couple teams present multiple award. Yes. That I would actually like there. There's so much time wasted with getting the presenters up there. Clapping. And then you don't realize collectively how long all of that stuff adds up, and how long it adds to the broadcast. So maybe if they kind of streamlined behavior, and they just had a couple sets of people that read the awards and more stars would probably be open to doing that. Because it's less pressure of being the host. Now, I'm going to be giving out four words. This is great stand up on the side there for a little bit step up announcing nominations. Because think about it. So that's that's yeah. I liked that a lot. I was a producer. I mean, if you think about it. Okay. So you do. The announcement comes on, ladies and gentlemen, the present our next award. Matthew, mcconaughey and Halle Berry? Literally the introduction plus the clapping plus Matthew and Haley Halle Berry coming on. That's a minute right there. That's a minute. Each one of think about all of the introductions all night, add up all of those minutes, if you could streamline and just have sets of people that just do one ward after another. Yeah. Introduction, and they'd just standard aside and back in makeup costume do groups of awards, and then take a break and then come back with a funny little montage 'cause you still want some glamour you still want. You do want it to have an air of celebration of Hollywood all the Hollywood new Hollywood people always want to host might be your moral to it. And Julia Louis Dreyfus, she might do it. Then we all would love to see her host. Yeah. Maybe she'll be more open to doing this, Tom Hanks same thing, Denzel will you know, what would be fun for me if I was a producer. And I in the stars were all very agreeable with me. I would I would reunite classic casts. Classic pairs like I would have Richard Gere. And Julia Roberts..

"All right. So the White House and the IRS saying that if the government shutdown continues tax refunds. Lil the issue so tax refunds will be paid. The question is will the government shutdown last into the time where the tax filing opens up, which is later this month. So what is it? I'm trying to remember what the date is. It's it's twenty end the January where I believe you can still the January twentieth. Somewhere around there. Can you look that up for me? Just I'm sure we have some folks I'm curious some simpliciter probably the first day, you can actually file your IRS return later this month. But I don't know the exact day. But if the government shutdown continues, the word is is that refunds will continue to be paid. However. Is the shutdown going to last much longer? That was the Wall Street Journal report. And there is a second Wall Street Journal report. That is claiming that the president has asked his staff to try to find a way. To end the government shutdown without Trump looking like, he caved. Now, again, Wall Street Journal reporting that Trump is working with his staff to try to figure out how to get out of the government shutdown to put the government workers back to work open the government backup with the partial shutdown without making him look weak. So again, I'm looking at the Wall Street Journal report right here that the president has asked his trusted aides to come up with a plan. So that the government can reopen, but without making Trump look weak and like he caved in to democratic demands. From the Wall Street Journal during a private meeting with aids at Camp David on Sunday. Mr. Trump said he wanted them to come up with a resolution. To the shutdown fight that would reopen the government without him appearing to have capitulated to Democrats. A person familiar with the meeting said. Oh refunds, and it's it's at the end of the January twenty nine twenty eight it's toward the end of the month that you can the first day to file on here. We have to worry about government shutdown much longer. If Trump's looking for a way to end the shutdown, but making sure that it doesn't look like Nancy Pelosi and truck Schumer stopped on his face with golf cleats. What we'll say, well, we'll watch way just observers here. Eight hundred eight zero one eighty nine ninety nine nationwide number here on Schnitt. Eight hundred eight zero one eighty nine ninety nine I mentioned these two freshmen these two brand new house of representatives members that are getting all this attention into new toy. It's a sparkly shiny new object. Oh, gotta talk about. Yeah. The media's been going Gaga. Over this Alexandria, ocasio Cortez. And she did a sixty minutes interview, which aired with Anderson Cooper on sixty minutes on CBS last night. Listen, I've said this numerous times again today. That she's making a lot of noise. She's making headlines. She's good fodder for talk radio. You know, the fact that she's looking for a seventy percent top marginal tax rate in some conditions. It's ludicrous. It's ridiculous. Then bringing back some of the top marginal tax rates back in the sixties. You know, she she's just uneducated. She doesn't always talking the issue is. And when you hear people that tell you about the top marginal tax. This is important. This is very very important. When you hear people talking about all back in the sixties ninety percent top marginal tax rate. Nobody paid ninety percent. The difference was that you might have high marginal tax rates, but there were so many deductions back then many to MARTINI launch the this. The so many over the years not just recently with Trump's new tax plan. But over the decades a lot of the deductions have disappeared. Those that might the well off. Making a tunnel money Schnitt boat full of money. And let's say they were in that in the early sixties in that ninety percent tax with all of the deductions. They were able to get their their effective tax rate to lower than the where we are. Now at thirty seven percent is the top marginal tax rate prior to this one was thirty nine point six, but a thirty seven percent, the average, and this is my counting told me my accountant did some extensive reach search. I can I ask years ago because I was sick and tired of hearing. Oh, but back in the sixties the top marginal tax rate ninety percent the deductions. Most most in in the in the wealthy parabas, those that were loaded that would fall into these high tax. They would end up paying an effective tax rate in the twenties in a twenty percent range twenty to twenty eight percent, whatever the number was. So they don't be fooled by nine and the justification, oh, there was a much higher tax deductions were much more lenient and liberal back then and the tax rates were much lower. So listen ocasio Cortez. Trying to bring them always seventy percent suggestion for tax rate than she just doesn't understand on the facts again, she's just as the hot new, shiny toy. And she's going to be a flash in the pan. Trust me. Even Whoopi Goldberg. And like, I promised you earlier. That I was not going to Bagi Dow with any ocasio Cortez soundbites from sixty minutes, but I wanted to play a little bit of Whoopi Goldberg. So what be Goldberg on the view was calling out all Casio Cortez. So here we got liberal Whoopi Goldberg giving all Cossio Cortez. Just a little bit of advice. You're listening to this. "This is the drive with Leigh Matthews and a good evening to you on NewsRadio one thousand K T L K resetting the scene about what we're talking about. We have a new state CEO. But what does that mean a chief operating? Officer sounds to me like governor elect steps wants to have somebody overseeing whether or not agencies are doing what they should be doing with their money, which is what a COO does have you personally been affected by the government shutdown. I'd like to hear the story four thousand star one thousand Leigh Matthews, Katie, okay dot com, and I'm up on Twitter and Facebook as well this half hour of the program brought to you by new castle casino where real gamers come to play. And another thing that has been going on, and you and I haven't had a chance to talk about it. Because it's you know, everybody's been doing the holiday thing. And it seems like this is. The week when everybody gets back into the grind of things. But we had to congresswoman sworn in last week. That have been making a lot of noise since then one of them is. We've talked about it before Alexandra a Cossio Cortes. She represents the Bronx. I think New York inner city, New York, I believe Bronx and Brooklyn. Yeah. Along the river, and then and that's Mike and the love cannon who's back from vacation as well. By the way, so good to have you back, then there's Representative Rashida Thai Thai Heeb, she is from Michigan. And she's the one who right after she was sworn in said, we're gonna impeach that mother bleep. And it was at a party after her swearing in hosted by liberal activist group move on. According to events on Twitter, and then a Cossio Cortez appeared on sixty minutes. You may have seen the interview yesterday. Of course, they released a lot of clips from the interview going into the weekend. And she wants to see a seventy percent tax. You can't quite explain why she wants to seventy percent tax on rich people know she did. It's the green new deal. I know it's the she wants to fund the green, but she wants to charge seventy percent tax rates to people who are what she considers to be rich. Now what she considers to be. She kept talking about progressive tax rates and going back to the nineteen sixties. And if if this economists as she is supposed to be understood that the inflation rate in the nineteen sixties and now are quite different. Anyway, I don't want to get into it because she doesn't know what she's talking about. And it's quite clear at any rate. All this noise coming out of these new con- congresswoman has their own party concerned. If you remember I said this last week. I sent a Qazi oh Cortez. Can talk about whatever. Tax Bill Bill. She wants to try to pass, and they can talk about repealing the electoral college, all they want. It ain't gonna happen. Even if they had huge support in their own party, which they don't for these measures, by the way. They're not going to pass the Senate. So they can talk about what they wanna do all they want whether or not it's going to happen is is not going to just not gonna happen at least right now. But here's the interesting thing. Members of their own parties are saying things. For instance, House Judiciary committee, chairman Jerrold Nadler, a democrat from New York said I disagree with what Representative tally said. She's the one that said we're gonna impeach that. Beep. He said it's too early to talk about that intelligently. We have to follow the facts. Representative Jan Schakowsky of Illinois. Also, Democrats said I think some of our new members probably don't realize that you're always on and that when you're a member of congress, there's always someone listening. She said she hopes that tally. Abs remarks aren't news for long. With a tight smile. Nancy Pelosi rejected Talib's profanity in her impeachment Val. Saying that's not the position the House Democrat caucus of the House Democratic caucus. She said, and then said, I don't think we should be making a big deal of it Representative Jerry Conley. A democrat of Virginia said she's a freshman. It's her first day. She went in front of an enthusiastic crowd of her supporters, and it was red meat for them. So she yielded to that temptation, which she did. And then he went on to say, I'm sure upon reflection. She might choose other words to describe her feelings. Even Whoopi Goldberg had a criticism of Alexandria, Cossio Cortez, saying on the view. You just got in there. And I know you got a lot of good ideas. But I would encourage you to sit still for a minute and learn the job, and just you know, there are people in that party who've been working their tails off for this country for a long time. In other words, what be Goldberg was acknowledging that a Cossio Cortez is a twit. I don't have a problem with anybody running for congress and getting elected, and there's a lot of representatives who say dumb things who is the guy. That's put too many warships in the area of warm on a tip over as an Iowan. And then another one anyway. It goes it goes on and on. And they're always saying something dumb. My my accusation of a Cossio Cortez is that she supposed to be so brilliant. But I mean, she's she clearly isn't sit down and shut up rookie. Yeah. She is. And she's she's she is a twitch. She thinks she knows everything or she knows. She thinks she knows more than she really does and the same with tally by think. Eight four hundred thousand star one thousand on NewsRadio one thousand K T O K R L on NewsRadio one thousand KT. Okay. Hi, good evening. I just wanted to defend see a little bit. You know, the seventy percent taxes. You proposes is. After you make your first ten million dollars. Okay. So actually put four dollars for that. And I think back in the fifties. It was like ninety three percent was a top tax is is the thing, you know, the climate changes subtle size, and we're going to have to do something. And it will take something like that. So you know, it may not happen. But it has to be a bold person to step out and get started. And so I'm proud she did it, and then the second thing, and I hate to do. Yeah. But what about you know, I hate when people do that to me. But the lady that made the profanity was not quite as direct is what Cheney said delay he on the Senate floor and not in such a sacred place. I mean, she she said it in the bar. But do you recall that? Yeah, I did. If you. Yeah. I believe me they say worse things to them sit to each other on on the floor. Then that that's not true. The Senate is pretty you know, they try to be polite. They tried to be polite, but they say things to each other walking through the halls. I think that was still very unusual. I I agree. It was very unusual are L. But what I'm saying is these I mean, these these two are freshmen, and we know they're freshman. My point is is that their own party is even saying, hey, back off their own party saying it, so I that's why I'm I'm not defending the party. I'm saying, look, my my my analysis of them. As candidates is coming true. They are twits. My love cannon. You're not at twit. Just enter evidence of cursing in the sacred hall of the Senate, John McCain John McCain, did it all the time. Yeah. So it isn't someplace where new walk in into the door. You forget your cuss words. So. Really now, here's what I wanted to. I wanted to get into a Cossio Cortez and. Well, I'll get to that in just a minute here. Let's go to Monica on NewsRadio one thousand Katie. Okay. Hi. Thank you for hanging on. Yes. Oh my God. That. Have to kind of broke somewhere in the middle of it. Yeah. Yeah. Process to be more intelligent than most people. Ideal. That's what concerns me Monica. I'm not gonna say it worries. I'm not gonna say it it it it. What is this? The kind of degrees that are major universities are cranking out. Someone who doesn't evidently knows nothing about how the process works. Carried all the people in her. Well. I don't think I don't think any of them were dead Monica. I'll tell you I'll tell you why. And I'm going to risk sounding sexist. I'm gonna risk sounding sexist right now. She's cute. She's attractive. She is an attractive woman and. Well, but she, but I tell you the male voters went into that office into that voting booth and voting for the chick, you better believe it. Yeah..

"Is the part about Whoopi that I love Whoopi Goldberg is sitting there going listen. I just gotta say this you need to sit there and you need to do the job. She and Gobert says like, she's opinionated. Like me. You know, I we we like opinionated women clearly talking about the view. But she she says this is nothing. And she says, you know. Mean Gobert Dianne Feinstein was wasn't sitting still there are a whole bunch of people in Democratic Party who've been busting their asses to make sure that women get what they need people get what they need children get what they need. So you just gotta get in there. And I know got lots of good ideas. But I encourage you to sit still for a minute and learn the job. And and here's the thing. The reason why Whoopi Goldberg saying this as a liberal. She knows Cortez is actually now doing more harm than good for the Democratic Party. She knows. She knows it. She knows that she's doing more harm than good. And again, this can we play one more time Cortez. And what she said when when when Anderson Cooper asked her about this. Listen to her just Anderson Cooper was incredibly kinda way more kind than I ever would have been about her fuzzy math seventy percent tax bracket and banning all cards have gasoline engines in them with no plan on how you're gonna pay for people to get all these these electric cars or to keep the roads up with collecting no gas tax here. "Can be heard cheering on the comedian. But on the outside some outraged director and comedian Judd appetite voicing his concern on Twitter saying why is it so hard to make amends? Instead he sought new victims. It's super messed up and deserves discussion and a father of one of the parkland shooting victims Fred Gutenberg, tweeting my daughter was killed in the parkland shooting. Why don't you come to my house and try out your new pathetic jokes as fans and critics wonder what's next for the comedian another celebrity tainted during the metoo movement gets ready for his public appearance in court. Kevin Spacey has been ordered by a judge to appear in court on Monday for a hearing on a sexual assault charge. Stacey resurfacing after nearly a year out of the public is both CK. Am Spacey are seemingly trying to make comebacks for the new year. But experts say these attempts might have fallen short if you showed contrition. People have the potential to forgive you. I don't think either of these guys in this case or at that stage for sure yeah. And that is true. And it was interesting hearing the ladies on the view talk about this because Jerry Bayer's comedian Whoopi Goldberg, and and Ricky Jay said chimed in and he's like comedians can joke, but whatever the hell they want, you know, which is totally true joys point about. She said comedy right now, there's there's many riches, and she said in the lazy way of a comic is to punch down. Right. Yep. And she said there's so much great stuff to punch up at oh interesting where you can take something. And if you wanna really put all your outrage and disdain she said, the easiest punching bag in comic foil is punching down. She said, that's common types and different. It'd be it would show more contrition to develop something completely. And instead of being like the old, man. Get off my lawn, right? Kind of a thing. And you know, it was I listened to the whole thing. I mean, actually, he said, you know, far worse things. I mean, he was worse than the headline. Yeah. Yeah. And I thought if he listens to joy Behar because you know, you kind of remember Louis C K jerked off in front of who knows how many it was a part of a thing if you were on a comedy show with him. In the green room. It's gross. Gross. Yeah. Completely ridiculous. To have comebacks and everything worse. But I am with joy. Why don't you punch up? There are lots of punching bags that you could make fun of or things that you could make be topical whatever. Instead of being the old, man. Get off my lawn yelling at kids who are trying to make a difference. So you know, what I mean, it just seems? So he's still getting bookings. That's the thing. We talked about this on Monday when you guys were gone, the owner of this club. He thought it was an honor and a privilege this comic genius. Well, he did his said about how he hates the New York City now because he lost thirty five million dollars. Oh, boo. Hoo rain. Yeah. Yeah. All we, you know, nobody feels. Imagine trying what he did. And not understanding it. Yeah. I wonder where the two million unblocks DVD's if I love you. Daddy are where they're getting. We're there. That's the movie head coming out on all of this broke.
