Trump declares victory following acquittal in impeachment trial
"We begin tonight with the conclusion of president trump's impeachment trial in the Senate on Wednesday the Senate voted to acquit president trump of obstruction of Congress and abuse of power met rami was the lone GOP lawmaker to join Democrats in finding him guilty of abuse of power the next day president trump appeared at the White House to celebrate his acquittal and denounced Democrats and the investigations that have dogged his presidency president trump also deliver his third state of the union address on Tuesday night he claimed credit for the stronger economy and vowed to quote never let socialism destroyed American health care the issue has taken center stage in the twenty twenty presidential race here to discuss this politico senior writer Carl Ameren Nucci and NPR senior editor and correspondent Ron Elving he joins us by Skype from the nation's capital welcome to you both Ron let's start with you we are hearing today that lieutenant colonel Alexander vin men who and his twin brother are being fired and removed from the White House he was one of the witnesses called during the impeachment investigation he provided very damaging testimony against the president what is this firing tell us about how trump gonna act moving forward and could there be any repercussions for the president or his administration you know there were two theories on the part of the senators who were voting on impeachment one was that the president was going to have learned his lesson and that he was going to moderate his behavior that does that does not seem to have been borne out by his behavior thus far at the prayer breakfast on Thursday or at his victory lap speech in the east room or now today as he has begun and we don't think he's finished cleaning out some of the people that he thinks betrayed him and the impeachment proceedings including a lieutenant colonel Benjamin and his brother who was actually on staff over in the Senate for some other people but seems to have lost his job in the same hour I mean it's not just the president that could potentially suffer repercussions we have senators like Susan Collins from Maine who it said she hoped the president would learn lessons she is one of a handful of senators that Democrats hope to defeat in November what do you think this means for them look I think it's gonna fire of the Democrats they are already donating in record amounts to the on the opposition in all of those cases when you talk about college attack on more than like Sally this is this is but it's going to keep the Republicans fired up as well this whole week is an example of of the kind of I mean a rancor and hostility we seen between the parties it is not going away anytime soon it is going to extend probably on the next election I think we've we've gone the other residents a suite yeah it definitely feels like we are already in the selection run I wanna bring you back in here the impeachment vote was on Wednesday the only person who you could say maybe didn't act in a partisan manner was Utah senator Mitt Romney he was the sole Republican vote on that first article of impeachment on abuse of power do you think that in anyway rob's trump of this talking point that this is a purely partisan witch hunt it doesn't seem to have deterred him from using exactly that language what it does add a note an asterisk if you will Mitt Romney was the first person to vote to remove from office a president of his own party we've had party lines stepped over in the past in previous impeachments but always to defend someone not to remove them so he does become a unique voice in all the history of impeachment that's not something we're going to hear from the White House White House is in some sense is trying to ignore him but is also made some rather direct shots at him hiding behind his religion or using religion as a crutch because he mentioned his Mormon faith when he gave the speech on the floor and was quite an emotional speech about why he felt he had to follow the facts that had been presented to the Senate and vote for the president's removal from office Carlos you think there could be any political repercussions for Ronnie I mean obviously he has a target on his back when it comes to the White House look his own newspapers in Utah have stood up for him but there's no question about it there's going to be political repercussions for him and for his state and that's I think going to be of concern to hand the president has already mentioned is such an antibody I think that he's getting support from Democrats it's interesting to watch but it was also interesting to watch the silence the came out of the Senate people that have known him for years people have respected him for years have not come forward to to to the firm for him in any way so I think we're going to see how this plays out he but he's willing to take the heat he made
Navy Secretary forced out after Trump's war crimes intervention causes division and chaos in military
"So this is right now. Probably the the world's most famous talk yesterday. President trump congratulated America's favorite member of the Armed Services Code Him. The dog help take out the leader of Isis. And we just gave Conan a metal plaque. And it's really uh and I actually think exactly what was going on the mall. That was all smiles. That is not the mood at the Pentagon right now because while Conan might have a job former Navy secretary Richard Spencer does not to wash now where the navy sector has been forced to resign resigned at odds with President trump and his Pentagon secretary over the handling of navy seal warcrimes case as we reported yesterday so I went back to president. Trump's defense of navy seal convicted deposing with the corpse of a prisoner a teenager. Spencer's boss defense. Secretary Mark S. Burt originally said this was all about not respecting the chain of command but yesterday we started hear from the president himself and exactly how this forced resignation went down. ABC's chief global affairs correspondent. Martha Raddatz is with us. So Martha I mean what have we learned over the last twenty four hours. Well the president clearly is the one who ordered the Pentagon to let Eddie Gallagher keep his seal Triton Pin with any gallagher. Did you know that story Mary. Well they wanted to take away and I said No. You're not gonNA take it away. He was a fighter. He was one of the ultimate fighters tough guy and secretary criterion Esperer. The defense secretary said okay. Basically I give up. We're not gonNA have this review where it was possible that he could have lost that Trident. Pin meaning his signifies. He's a seal but more than that his rank which provides benefits as well and I was going to confuse Martha because originally Mark Asper that defense secretary saying. Hey Guy Brand under me Richard Spencer Kinda went behind my back and talk to the White House about this deal but the deal was let gallagher. Keep us pain. which would from the words of Richard Spencer it really sounded like he is not on board with US Navy seal or what the White White House is doing it? It's all very confusing and secretary. Asper made clear that he and Mark Milley the chairman of the Joint Chiefs wanted. The process has to go forward. Wanted to allow the Navy to review gallagher and whether he deserved to keep that tried to pin and his rank doc and benefits defense secretary. espy says he fired Spencer for going around him. In dealing with the gallagher issue what happened according to Esber. Is that Secretary Spencer. The Navy Spencer who is a trump appointee was talking to someone at the White House White House folks and saying look just let the review go forward But in the end he'll keep his Trident Pin Navy Secretary Richard Spencer just issued a statement saying he quote cannot in good conscience obey in order he believes violates his sacred oath. What does this whole controversy mean for president trump then and his role as commander in chief? I listened closely to the President from the Oval Office US on Monday. I think what I'm doing sticking up for our armed forces and there's never been a president that's going to stick up for them and has like like I have including for him to say look. They wanted to take his pin away. And I said you're not going to take it away. He was great fighter. And then you have a system where these warriors with him get put in jail for twenty five years. I'm going to stick for our warrior. I will stick up for the warriors. Okay thank you very much. Everybody those I people in Special Warfare Community who are totally against gallagher keeping that trident say that is not what their culture promotes their culture promotes order and discipline that when the fighting gets tough no matter how mad you are and how angry at that Isis fighter in what all those horrible people stand for. You're a better person and I've been asked him. I mean you know people in the military how I mean. Did you have a ballpark idea of how many of them agree with the president. That guys like gallagher kind of get a bad rap and that our soldiers need more leeway in the fog of war with prisoners of war. I mean are there are a lot of voices like that. I have not really talked to anyone. No one is reached out. In any way saying gallagher was a great guy we are back with Fox News alert update in the case of Navy Seal Eddie Gallagher and he certainly says he has his supporters and we have seen them. I'm trying to encourage people to join the most elite forces. This is a perfect example of how you can destroy that recruitment but I I was in touch with someone I vastly vastly respect. WHO's been in the navy seals for decades and he said the leaders of the special warfare community will feel like they've been chopped off at the knees he's by having the president's Stop Dish Review the jury acquitted gallagher on the most serious charges but convicted him proposing an picture next the body of a teen Isis fighter? They've already taken away about a hundred and Fifty Trident since twenty eleven for lesser offenses. And this this community is so proud of how they got there what they do and what they stand for and there are many of them who do not believe leave that Eddie Gallagher stands for that anymore. The plan is for him to retire soon but he will retire with that pin on his

"Hear podcast. Hello, pat. Hello, glen. So you are you're unleashed about. Well, I was kinda interested in the fact that Lou Dobbs is calling out Republicans for being traders because they're not supporting Donald Trump's tariffs. Sis? When are Republicans traders for being free trade, people that monologue happened? They're cowards. And traitors, and they are committing suicide and bringing down the country with them. Well, I mean I will say that Lou Dobbs has always been a tariff guy from back in the day. I mean, he was never been a conservative, but he's always been a big terrify going back to his years at CNN fact that Republicans have not been terrified, of course, at least include that in the analysis. I mean, he doesn't he doesn't he doesn't bake that into anything. It's been exact opposite position of every one of these people that's been elected for the past fifty years. And of course, obviously, the pro union left has been the ones asking tariffs all this time. So they're talking, they say the, the tariffs as as requested by Trump. If implemented again, we hope this is which one's the Mexican the Mexican the Mexican ones if implemented and we hope it's negotiation, we know how stuff works because Trump threatens these things, and hopefully they don't come to pass. But if they do it would be the largest tax increase in thirty five years. Wow, really big number. Of course of other tariffs. In addition, it's top of a big tax cut. Right. So it's it doesn't mean that we when he started to when we would be here would be the biggest tax increase, but from where we are right now to the end of these Mexican tariffs, will be the biggest tax increase in thirty five years. And I just I don't know why again, this is I know something he believes in something that concerns us have disagreed with the entire time. I've been alive. But until now until now that they have all fallen apart. They I mean, the arguments have completely fallen apart. We won that one. We won that one even the Democrats were against tariffs. You know, I mean it was it was not some, it was old think, and, and, you know, I'm I'm, I'm happy to see first of all aren't tariff something that the president needs the Senate for. No tariffs. So he's going to do the way he's going to do. This is interesting. And one another reason why it's gonna be a problem. He's basically going to have to do another emergency declaration to get the tariffs through. Now, we know we had an issue with the last one and a lot of our listeners did, as well in that, like, we really think the borders, big deal, we really want the wall. But like is this the right way to do it? If you remember a bunch of Republicans voted against him on that. Just not enough to get to override the video veto here, you have a serious issue, where apparently in the meeting, there were no p no senators on Trump's side in the meeting when it comes to when it came to the tariffs, and this is something that should go through congress. But he's trying to circumvent that process again. Well, I mean, sort of. Yeah. Because again, like trade thirty in the constitutionists congress. Yes, opposed to be through congress gave a lot of this is thirty to the president. However, the president has to justify it. So to justify his his approach. Here is going to likely be, and we don't know for sure he isn't released certainty. But this is what the White House White House sources are saying that he would go through another emergency declaration, which would either be amending the one that are exists or creating a brand new emergency declaration. So, again, the congress have a chance to override it. There is no evidence that Republicans would stand up to him to the numbers to, to get to sixty seven votes. That also includes the house would have to also get two-thirds. There's no evidence on any issue. They, they stayed. So I mean most of this is them just talking big game. They wanna say they're trying to hopefully, influence Trump before these things go into effect. Maybe they can move. Maybe they can delay them. These are the games that they play in reality is the Republican congress to over overturn veto from Donald Trump on anything. No, I don't especially they all talk a big game but they're not going to do that. And like, you know, a lot of the stuff they shouldn't be overturning Trump's that a lot of really good things. This one in particular, though, against the philosophy of the party for at least fifty years. So the problem is, is that you, you, Donald Trump is under such attack right now and has been the whole time that anything that even sounds like you're against him. Your mmediately tossed to the side. Yeah, that's true. I came out for the Justin Amash just just to say, I think he's a good guy. And I think he believes in the constitution. I'm against impeachment, and what he said about impeachment against him running in twenty twenty that doesn't seem to matter to Breitbart or anybody else. They're just saying Glenn back once impeachment. No a Truck Trader and are not long. Maybe I'm not on anybody's train moody. Straight is a solid conservative. He's service has his problems. He has some things that I disagree with, you know, when it comes to Israel etcetera, etcetera, I disagree with those things, but I'm fine with that we should disagree with things having we can't you'll never be in lockstep with everybody, but it doesn't mean one hundred percent rating for freedom. Yeah. They're saying, I know I know. Yeah. So to, to throw, we can't throw people away like this. We can't throw people away. We're eating our own. And we're seeing this happened. Now, you see how they are just coming after Joe Biden. Today. About it. Lying about the civil rights Marci is all of the aditorial that came out about how you know, we need a JFK. We need a younger guy with vision. This is we don't need another Hillary Clinton. I mean, coming after him dug up when he was twenty nine years old and running, and that he used all these attacks of how old he was like, you know, like my opponent was fighting polio..

Why this pardon is so lawless why this pardon is so tremendously inappropriate. Now, the headlines will read something like Trump pardons. Army soldier? That's the headline. Right. But what it should say is Trump pardons? Convicted murderer. That's true headline is well, that's the headline. You won't see see this is the massaging of the media. I try to get people to actually pay attention to Trump pardons for me army soldier thin tensed for killing a rocky prisoner. That is such a massage what really happened. So let me explain to you. So what happened while they caught up with a league Manzoor Ali Mansour wasn't Tara gated. But free the military did not have conclusive evidence to try him for the explosion. "There's a developing consensus that the only appropriate response to the fact that some consumers cannot afford groceries is to impose a single government controlled food system on all citizens. Everybody can agree that this is sure to provide the same consistently. Performance that we see in public schools. We all recognize that all public schools perform at the same level because they're all government institutions. Now, reportedly the clincher for those proposing grocery nationalization was stated recently by the White House White House pointed out that the great thing about these government commissary proposals is that if we can somehow get this to work for groceries. We could apply the same idea to healthcare. Spoke do-gooders wanna do do-gooders want government? Stop and think about it. If there's an obesity epidemic, and if a conservative or liberal, I don't I just don't care. But if anybody tells you that they're worried about the obesity epidemic, and that they want to do something about it. Here's the answer. You can give them. If healthcare is a right. This. This story is like I said ten plus years old now. And so now we've gone actually full circle. That's the sad part where we are hearing that healthcare is a right. I I don't understand where that comes from. It doesn't come from natural law. It doesn't come from anywhere. The I've ever studied or read that we are entitled to healthcare healthcare is something that people don't get me wrong. Do I feel sorry for people that can't afford good, healthcare, certainly? But also recognize the people who can't afford good healthcare. Nonetheless, get healthcare. They just don't get as good a health care as I do. And there are people that get a hell of a lot better health care than I did. But that's why. Going back to Mike ward spots. That's why I drive an INFINITI. Q. Fifty. I don't drive a McLaren Mike ward cells McLaren's, why shouldn't Mike ward sell only McLaren's to all of us. I mean after all. Isn't transportation or right? I have to be able to get to work. I I've got to be able to get to school. I've got to get to church or synagogue. I gotta get I gotta get to business meetings. So I must have transportation. And if the government can't provide the last mile all the government can do is get me kind of within the most instances in Colorado, maybe make well, not even in Colorado. Let's just use the front range. The most government can do is get you within if you're lucky maybe five or six miles of your final destination. Didn't you gotta take a bus? If a bus available bus not available. You gotta take cab. You gotta walk. Get ready by Newburgh. Government can't even provide transportation is right to get to my last mile. But think about transportation. Why shouldn't transportation beer, right? Michael. That's just ridiculous. We'll tell you more ridiculous than making the claim that healthcare is a right. Healthcare's right, stick with me. If healthcare.

"Florida's two us senators have introduced a national red flag bill senator marco rubio says the bill creates an incentive for the rest of the states to do what florida and five other states have already done and that is put in place strong extreme protection risk orders so that law enforcement and family members have a tool that they can use to go to court convince the judge to this person is dangerous and take away their guns before they can take away anyone's lives senator rubio together with senator bill nelson say the bill also prevents those people from buying more guns deville was introduced following the school shootings in parkland florida that killed seventeen students and teachers linda kenyon washington white house is claiming it's not concerned about a wave of republican departures from congress more than three dozen gop lawmakers are leaving the house of representatives at the end of the year ahead of the midterm elections the wave of departures is putting at risk gop control on capitol hill however white house press secretary sarah sanders isn't worried we're not concerned right now we think we've got a great story to tell after the first year of being an office she says the white house looks forward to touting the president's accomplishments and pushing his agenda greg clugston the white house white house chief of staff reince priebus is telling conservatives to ignore stories of chaos and the trump white house in publishing the results conservative or a republican or maybe even someone close to the line or in the middle on the decisions you cannot possibly be happier so i say forget about the process look at the decision previously served as president trump's chief of staff or six months was interviewed on the salem radio network this is townhall dot com hello beautiful i'm any eric founder of madison reed i hair color company i named after my daughter when i named this company after madison it was a vow on my part to create a company.

"Senator i i would go that far look i i think he present wants to be an effective leader and and ed and be able to to get things that he promised the american people done and i think he's fresh means obviously frustrated by the way things happen around here and he likes the fact that he can actually issue executive orders and get things done in and do the regulatory changes he's made an and and he's been very effective he's been widely praised by by by people who supported him following through and he doesn't like the fact that we have a congress and we have a we have a media that's been little tough on it and since the difference so that was the president in florida but back at home an avalanche of news out of the white house as we take a look at some of the headlines kushner's security clearance downgraded sessions pushes back on trump after disgraceful insult whole picks is resigning from the white house white house meltdown on full display ben carson says he wants to cancel thirty one thousand dining room furniture order defiant john kelly the chief of staff continues to ms represent his handling of rob porter scandal it was a particularly chaotic week it was and having worked in and out of a white house for eight years with you have one of these things happening over the course of a couple of months it creates a lot of chaos internally and externally because it's hard to focus on the job that you're supposed to do not just for the president but for the senior staff and now they're all speculating will the national security advisor still be her won't he will the we'll gary cohn stay here want he out over these tariffs what's happening after who picks they're all talking about internal staff struggles which means they're not talking about their agenda and what they should be doing over the next several months although there all i have to say they're all there has also been a chaotic policy components of this in terms of where the president is on guns it's unclear the tariff announcement clock and a lot of people in the white house in the trump administration by surprise or not only that but this is not new for the president we expect that that.
