"Balance of power with the world of politics makes the world of business I'm David Westin where start the program today with a market check as equity markets are up on some news that perhaps perhaps the coronavirus crisis is easing a bit and for a full report we're going out to Abigail Doolittle well David we do have stocks higher on this Tuesday the S. and P. five hundred right now up about two percent off its highs at the highs up about three percent and as you were mentioning this probably does have to do with folks out there thinking that there are signs of the corona virus the spread is easing but what makes this so interesting just yesterday David you and I were talking about how the big a driver for stocks this week could be bank earnings quite frankly they're pretty miserable JP Morgan's up profits plunged to the lowest since twenty thirteen Wells Fargo withdrew their net interest income outlook so you can see banks sharply down the KBW bank index down about two point eight percent real divergence there and as a result there is another divergence we may have risk stocks higher David but we also have a haven bonds and the yen higher the haven yen that Japanese yen now up for fourth in a row so it tells you not everybody is believing not just the rally today but the rally that we've had in recent weeks yeah I'm gonna finish can't blame investors they don't know exactly which way this is going because I don't think anyone does she have the banks have started up a bit and then they came down as you said at the same time I think some of the stocks that had been beaten down pretty badly have sort of come back every day that is a big piece of the rally over the last couple of weeks and one reason that some strategists and traders out there don't like it in terms of the companies that had been hit so hard by the virus back in January February and March such as the leisure companies the airlines there has been a bit of a bounce back over the last couple of weeks of summer saying that the rally that we've had off of the lows from March that there are holes and if you take a look at the year to date chart of the S. and P. five hundred it's really pretty incredible because there's a huge move down thirty five percent from the peak to the trough now we're about halfway up back up it's very hard to know which side of where the greater risk is it to the upside don't fight the tape and the fed or is it to the downside that we don't know how bad the economic repercussions of this virus cry crisis will be some are saying that we really need to see not the numbers for the first quarter we already know that's horrible in most quarters a companies have pulled their guidance but it'll be the second quarter when it's a full quarter of the economic toll not just Mar so lots of uncertainty out there year to date you can see down about twelve percent but today we do have stock higher David great thank you so much to Abigail do little for that report on the market in the meantime because there is some reports that perhaps the court of ours is using a bat we're starting to think about how to return the economy to full steam and there's a tug of war that's developed between the president states Donald Trump won hands on the governor's crime across the country yes that was Donald Trump saying he got to decide we started some governors saying they have their own plans for report which turned out to our White House corps of correspondent he is Josh Wingrove just welcome to what is going on between the White House in one and some of our nation's governors well I think it's the sort of hot potato back and forth in a way where would the president is saying he has the absolute priority now it's a little unclear is complex he based that on the vice president in the think that these are emergency powers as opposed to overarching blanket authority but the president dean if they make it with the latter into we've had New York governor and others pushing back to get that thing the company setting up a constitutional crisis if he were to order a state like New York to open ahead of when the governor says do you know the right time to do it so that the kind of jockeying that we're having right now Cuomo saying we we we don't want to king trump we want president trump I was curious would you cover president trump regular pastors what your take was because although he did say I have the authority to do this I also heard him say you know the governors who resist me will have a political price to pay didn't sound like he was saying it was legal as he basically setting them up basically the blame them if things go wrong yeah I think I think that that's true out of yesterday's press conference was to do the Popeye any measure I know they're not often boring or preachy there is but the president I think you know I think that he's clearly trying to put himself in the driver's seat of this you know if you've been you've been playing nice for a while with the governor that sort of ease off a little bit now were you sort of a turning to them he today referred to them as mutineers in one tweet and so we'll see if for instance the next few days Larry Kudlow credit you moments ago the president announces guidelines for states to begin taking steps and it's it's a voluntary thing man it's you know not going to be a huge quite but if trump gets up to the podium and says everyone should go back to work no matter where government says that we're gonna have a different ball game what does remarks Mr Kudlow suggested the presence again a rolling re entry it's not gonna be like flipping a white Lexus why wonder if there's a really big difference but I do know Josh that I don't think the president set national guidelines for we shut it down once you think you should be set the guidelines for opening it back up good I think he's really anxious to get things back to work before he was running you know two months ago he's running on for reelection on the economy pretty much squarely we wrote overnight though that list and you know put a big step that being need to re open thing is testing we just simply do not have enough testing we don't have enough testing to test people with symptoms let alone turning contract rates all the people those people have met let alone just do random testing to catch a break before they pop up and we don't even have a full anybody that's really something that's widely available so we don't know who's had it we don't know who's recovered and we don't know that if you were covered you have immunity institute for how long so there are just so many unknowns right now testing will really be the key to solving that the Matilda really ramps up and we're talking you know multiple times what we are able to do right now you know eighty eight times or so by one estimate band really a full re opening to sit in the car that's the one thing everyone seems to agree and we need a lot more testing to reopen the car thank you so much Josh Wingrove reports the White House for Bloomberg and now it is time for Wilberforce were news serving for that we go to mark Crumpton David thank you former president Barack Obama has endorsed Joe Biden for president in a video message Obama said as former vice president has called the character and the experience to guide us through one of our darkest times.

"Services the state health director Dr Nicole Alexander Scott said the continuing increase was to be expected as the Tories have been able to rapidly expand the testing capabilities across the state in recent days so with the eight new for talent is reported yesterday the state's coronavirus death toll on Thursday night stood and forty three the new deaths were of people who ranged in age from their twenties to the nineties the person in their twenties had an underlying illness and lived in a group formed by the way now one of the others was a resident of Oak Hill center in Pawtucket that's one of two nursing homes in the state that have really been devastated by this virus about sixty of the one hundred and seventeen residents and twenty employees at Oak Hill have tested positive for the virus now none of the most recent deaths came from golden crest nursing center in north Providence that's where seventy five residents and twenty five staff members have been tested positive so together killing golden crest they account for nearly half of the virus related deaths in Rhode Island number of covert nineteen cases in hospitals rose from a hundred and forty three to one sixty forty five of those patients being treated in intensive care units hospitals are not at capacity according to Alexander Scott that's what she said in a conference call with reporters after yesterday's briefing but the daily number of covert nineteen patients projected to increase governor Rolando yesterday saying that a state model estimating future impacts of the illness project a surgeon numbers to come sometime in April or Pratt possibly into may and she had previously resisted requests to release those specifics from the model which is being worked on she said testing is a key component of what's going to allow us to get back to work which is why I've been so aggressive and why I've been so focused on it the governor said that means that we're getting closer to some semblance of normalcy but the makeshift nature of the system was evident on Thursday because the testing stations are housed outside under tents so they were forced to close down of course yesterday because of the threat of lightning and all that heavy rain that was coming down it's five oh seven now state government will have the ability by the way to find people who violate orders to quarantine or isolate themselves under an executive order that was signed by the governor yesterday and that aims to control the spread of the coronavirus the governor announcing the new enforcement authority for the department of health and came at a daily remote news briefing on Thursday as she revealed the eight more people who have died from the virus since Wednesday two seventy seven as we mentioned two hundred and seventy seven new cases to have been identified the other people on the front lines of all of this the nurses the doctors you know they are just absolutely exhausted one to run the hospital nurse spoke to NBC tends Amanda Hoskins saying whatever needs to get done we're going to do it and that's what we do for a living so whatever needs to be done we'll do save in the confines of his home Frank Sims an ER nurse at Rhode Island hospital and president of you nap local five zero nine eight shares his experiences inside one of the state's top hospitals the uncertainty makes us all a little uneasy five you know this is all brand new and none of us have seen it before he says right now nurses are essentially cross training sharpening on old skills in different units nurses are reviewing things preparing to work in areas that are common to them is that they may need to be if the search comes out he says P. P. E. remains the utmost concern to the degree that you should be the mass that we're using for now forty eight hours previous to that where a couple of three weeks those are single use masks are so they're being adapted to I do something they weren't originally designed for so there's definitely concerns when it comes to that he says he's thankful for each nurse working alongside him coming in each day I'm concerned that you know we may take this home to our families and our loved ones but we're just focused on on making sure that we're prepared in the event that we have a search a lot of the public has been asking what can we do to help these are front line workers and I asked him that he tells me that really people can just stay home and listen to this social distancing guidelines Amanda Hoskins from NBC ten Boris Johnson was moved out of intensive care on Thursday the British prime minister's office saying that he remained hospitalized in quote will receive close monitoring during the early phase of his recovery Johnson was in intensive care for three days after his corona virus symptoms worsened Utah's governor Gary Herbert issued an executive order yesterday requiring adults entering the state to disclose their travel plans it applies no matter how they enter the state the governor's office and visitors will get instructions on how to register their travels in their plans via an automatic text when they arrived in the state about that data released by the federal government yesterday showed that six point six million people applied for unemployment benefits last week for a total of a staggering sixteen point eight million people over three weeks amid the corona virus pandemic I mean these are numbers we haven't seen since the Great Depression that sixteen point eight million amounts to about ten percent of U. S. workers and the numbers are expected to go still higher in its latest unprecedented move to try to support the stunned economy the U. S. federal reserve announced that it's going to provide up to two point three trillion in loans to households local governments and businesses in the meantime the head of the International Monetary Fund warned the global economy is headed for the worst recession since the Great Depression Dow Jones industrials did finish up yesterday though about two hundred and eighty five points no trading today because it is Good Friday so at Thursday's White House corps a coronavirus task force briefing some insight was given to testing and the trends those numbers show his boxes Grinnell Scott coronavirus response coordinator Dr Deborah Berke Salford a breakdown of women versus men in testing fifty six percent of the people who are tested are female sixteen percent positive forty four percent male twenty three percent positive evidence that men will often get tested until they see symptoms infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci adds high death rates are still present bye at the same time as we're seeing the increase in deaths we're seeing rather dramatic decrease in the need for hospitalizations he says that's a step in the right direction colonel Scott fox news president trump says over two million coronavirus tests have been completed any maintains America has done more tests than any other country called the tests highly sophisticated and highly accurate too meantime according to reports the president's expected to unveil the second coronavirus task force one that will be primarily focused on the economy a senior trump administrative official says the task force will be a mix of private sector and top administration officials including the chief of staff mark meadows treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin and White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow unlike the current force the second group is not expected to meet each and every day so where does the US stand when it comes to cope at nineteen we check Rhode island's numbers in our last segment let's take a look at where the country stands at last check there are more than four hundred and sixty six thousand cases across the United States with nearly seventeen thousand patients succumbing to the illness though nearly twenty six thousand have globally the number stands at just over one point six people infected by the virus with more than ninety five thousand dead on the plus side nearly three hundred and fifty five thousand have recovered that's a jump of more than twenty five thousand by the way in just one single day but also you got to remember that the raw numbers don't tell the complete tale remember that for more than the eighty one percent of people diagnosed symptoms are considered mild if you're a Beatles fan here's your chance to own something from the fab four they got shin gonna happen here's fox's Michelle Paulino.

"The editor's desk coming up president trump talks about his latest coronavirus test and his treasury secretary sets the schedule for stimulus checks we've got the latest in a special report globally speaking the number of cases passes a new and disturbing mark the CDC appears to get closer to issuing another guideline to protect ourselves during the outbreak a new congressional effort to make sure the two trillion dollar aid plan gets money where it's needed on Capitol Hill I'm Mitchell Miller we're gonna talk about all of these stories with CBS news chief Washington correspondent major Garrett coming up in about nine minutes Tokyo stocks are higher after we had two percent gains on Wall Street ten thirty one CBS news update unemployment numbers continue to soar new one show six point six million Americans signed up for jobless benefits last week double the number the week before CBS news business analyst Jill Slazenger this is like a flood and the waters are still rising and it is going to some seem like these numbers are horrible for weeks on end but soon we hope that the flood waters will recede we just don't know when a lot of people will be getting some extra money from the government to help offset losses CBS's Stephen Portnoy the administration is ramping up its processing of cash payments to most Americans with the disbursements of up to twelve hundred dollars going directly into qualifying Americans checking accounts within the next two weeks for those who receive paper checks from the IRS or from social security the process could take longer but the treasury secretary vows it'll be weeks not months CBS news update I'm Deborah Rodriguez ten thirty two the number of coronavirus infections worldwide has now hit one million with more than fifty thousand deaths that comes from a running tally maintained by Johns Hopkins University it's yet another sobering milestone on the path pandemic rather which has led to stay at home orders and of course millions upon millions of Americans out of work the actual numbers of deaths and infections are believed to be higher in part because of differences in counting practices on reported cases testing shortages and suspicions of a cover up in some nations the White House is expected to announce a new policy based on guidance from the CDC that would urge you to wear cloth masks in an effort to prevent corona virus spread we're supposed to reserve the higher grade protective equipment like N. ninety five masks for people who work in hospitals and other health care workers that is just too precious the experts say for the rest of us to be walking around with those they need to be used by the medical problems the order hasn't come in yet but president trump was asked about it in a briefing this evening people wanted to wear them they can if people wanted to use scarves which they have many people have them they can in many cases the scarf is better sticker I mean you can if you have depending on the material that sticker but they could do that if they want however White House corps of coronavirus task force coordinator Deborah Berke says people still need to practice social distancing the most important thing is the social distancing and washing your hands and we don't want people to get an artificial sense of protection because they're behind a mask because of their touching things remember your eyes are not in the mass so if you're touching things and then touching your eyes you're exposing yourself in the same way vice president Mike pence as the guidance on masks or face coverings will be issued in the days ahead the navy has relieved a captain from his command of an aircraft carrier after he warned his superiors about a corona virus outbreak aboard that ship captain Brad crozier was skipper of the USS teddy Roosevelt which is currently docked in Guam more from WTOP national security correspondent JJ green this is a very serious situation and it's also curious because one day after acting navy secretary Thomas modeli essentially said that captain crozier did the right thing by alerting his superiors to the situation he's been relieved of duty essentially because of concerns over how this memo that he wrote and sent to his superiors made its way into the media and apparently it seems as though he may be getting the blame for that WTOP national security correspondent JJ green the navy secretary says crozier demonstrated extremely poor judgment when he notified to many people in the memo which eventually got into the hands of a California paper about a hundred sailors have tested positive aboard the Roosevelt the navy says it's taking up to three thousand personnel off the vessel placing them into quarantine by tomorrow here's where we stand on the number of coronavirus cases locally we have almost ninety deaths and at last count more than forty six hundred people tested positive for the virus in DC Maryland and Virginia house speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced a new congressional oversight committee to examine the response and to monitor how federal dollars are spent WTOP's Mitchell Miller on Capitol Hill house speaker Pelosi says the panel will scrutinize spending from the two trillion dollar aid package recently approved by Congress the panel will root out waste fraud and abuse it will protect against price gouging profiteering and political favoritism hello she says the committee will seek accountability and will be led by majority whip Jim Clyburn but the house's top Republican Kevin McCarthy told reporters on a conference call he thinks the panel will be redundant I'm not sure what this is supposed to do I'm not sure what she thinks let us thank Connecticut's felt this should not trust her new chair Republicans and Democrats are also at odds over whether a fourth aid package will soon be needed with GOP lawmakers saying the latest legislation needs more time to enter the economy on Capitol Hill Mitchell Miller WTOP news in the minutes ahead how safe is it to use shared bikes and scooters during the corona virus outbreak stay with us at ten thirty six balance of "So a member of the White House correspondents association has in fact a suspected case of corona virus that announced by the White House corps president Jonathan Karl who by the way Jonathan Karl was in that pressure with trump as she sits right up front he missed like two long hairs on his face while he was shaving it was the solenoid every time he asked a question yesterday I've done that before rate is just floating around yeah I like to just like another by my nose it looks stupid and all anyone could drive into work and I'm like god dammit yeah I'm not trained for that had less leverage over you could see it but it bothers me I think Carl the L. so anyway you can then there was only like ten members of the media and there they were all set and well apart the unnamed journalists I was at the White House four times over the past two weeks yada yada all members had previously been instructed notify the board if they sought a covert nineteen test or had a a positive diagnosis so I I'm not sure which of the two triggered that but ultimately that's that's the gist of it I I guess I don't I don't know how do you handle it from there maybe take him outside and you do this thing outside because they there was a marked reduction in the number there although there's also this weird thing going on where there do you have people like Joe Scarborough The Washington Post Peggy Noonan others who were sitting there and demanding that they stop showing the president's press conferences I coronavirus after they just spent a year and a half whining because the president wasn't having are they weren't having the media briefings so that they could we have all the cameras around them so I frankly I don't know what they want do you know bunch of been Eric yesterday or cut out after the first initial little park there M. S. N. B. C. CNN I believe NBC ABC didn't air it even fox carried I watch on C. span I prefer to watch stuff on C. span just as the tend to stick with stuff for the totality of it it was interesting because they had Justin Trudeau's pressure on right before trump's pressure they showed it on C. span and rather than putting a translator there or putting subtitles when treat if you ever if you never watch it uncut press conference he does everything in English and then everything in French as she got to sit there the whole time is to say in the the same stuff in the French Canadian have a name for it but I and yet in a just spoke of the efficiency there but he got downright like despot band he's threatening he's threatening like if we see doing so we don't like well you know we're we're come to your home he was that was much more aggressive language I then actually would've expected there so but there is a lot of mirroring of activities things going on so I guess that's good to see Dick pound has pulled out I don't know if you saw this yesterday the following are you following all of this if I Dick pound yeah I have to yes you know nationally with Dick pound said that they were going to pull out the bunch of people from Japan came said Dick pound didn't know was head from the whole you know and and and now looks like Dick pound is correct the longest serving member of the international Olympic committee apparently is accurate as it looks like the Olympics are still going to go forward but in a year so rather than this year they're planning for next year you had multiple different country say that they were going to pull out of there show you would have had a a mitigated now I guess my question is so if you've qualified for the Olympic team you gonna have to re qualify you ever known anybody who is you got to go the Olympics or was an alternate or what I went through that process I actually I did I did I did know some people now to be fair was the winter Olympics and it was curly but he found love curling right cell of the sport yeah yeah yeah so in that first cut because that was a thing in Minnesota and was got you know that was a thing that happened after that was and so what was interesting is if you look at the first curling teams it's basically a bunch of guys who do that instead of bowling league yeah I know but the guy said that in Salt Lake is amazing yeah absolutely Bailey's great flipping through the channels last Olympics believe we won right but just give me a game I don't know if we were the last of it gave me so much hope you can hear both looked into right because you're flipping through and it looks like one of the FAQ eyes from the bears yeah yeah I was like what's his big idea looks like it's from Detroit to Chicago in sausage before it gets on the you may be using yeah I had a casserole casserole that could be us all is not to yeah I would do a deal with what is track and field I'm like nope nope nope nope nope I'm not good at all currently guys look at this that's right because the did the team I think a certain Norway or Sweden one of those you know yeah they were lately like they could actually be athletes yeah they had to be looking at our curling team like what the hell's going on here physical condition well let's see do I want to flip a snow bird in the air in my life when you have this guy from Chicago or whatever it's like I want to do that yeah was robbed it was amazing S. son but I remember having those guys on it it was just it was really interesting talking to them and because I thought I just assume that they went through other like they figured out the you know what whichever of musky league champs you know we're out there and they they brought me in but it was that it was a whole thing going through all of that and then talking about the process for they have to go out and they have to actually get sponsors did you know this these Olympians have to go out and get people or they can self fund but they have to basically the trip is funded by stem it would take our Olympic committee would pick this up you are wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong and and so there's a there's a part of it they do but the the element of it he has a big element of it is having to go out and essentially get people to sponsor you to go there even after he qualified to crazy so there's a lot that goes into the whole going to the Olympics or or potentially going to the Olympics so I don't know does that reset how exactly that works they need more sports and even watching ESPN the Ocho they went they went Ocho so they're showing all the stuff that normally you would consider a sport like rock skip in what do they have the other day wow it was amazing they have elektrische one that's what it was have they run into sports stare from a previous yes well no they wanted this feeling new stuff going on they had a lecture shouldn't okay so new stuff why don't they just show like old classic stuff well it's and but because the social thing is a joke it's on ESPN two but the you know it's it goes back to what was a Dodge ball or the Dodge ball where they made the joke that's how we got this it literally was a movie reference and it refers dodgeball or basketball I think it was dodgeball and so they were doing this thing over the weekend and I watched an electricians competition to win a new Dodge ram S. basically had all these electric ships around the world competing to do electricians stuff and I was mesmerized I wish I could kill myself did you see the viral video of the guy.
