That's why we need someone in the White House that's working on behalf of the American people. You know, talk is cheap. You know, I've heard the Democrats talked for quite a while now. But I haven't seen any actions to bolster their opinions on day. In many ways, you're right in meant because of the process because of the way Washington D. C works. You are right. But there is I would submit there is a big difference between Republicans. Or should I say conservatives and Democrats a big difference? I think we've all seen that and we've seen it in the last four years. What did the Democrats do for four years? Did any of the Democrats work on behalf of their Democratic constituents know I mean, if you're a Democrat, voter on do you stand back from this? You tell me what you're elected leadership did for you in the last four years. They did absolutely nothing. They knew they couldn't win on the economy. They knew they couldn't win on tax breaks. And I'm sorry. I do see a big difference between Democrats and conservatives. When it comes to working on behalf of the American people. You look at what Trump did. In his first term. About his time 9 16 Yesterday, the White House Coronavirus Task Force held a briefing featuring Vice President Mike Pence and top health officials that have been sidelined for months then. Didn't stick around for questions with a look at that rather bizarre press conference and what's going on today in Washington, I'm joined by ABC said as delicate era in Washington and as vice president, Mike Pence was there, but the president remains holed up in the White House. Lee. Good morning. That's right. That President facing quite a bit of criticism for remaining largely absent here and staying silent on the 250,000 jets, he has been tweeting and we will hear from him today. He's going to be speaking at 2 30 to talk about lowering prescription drug prices for American so it seems likely that he will at least touch on everything that's going on with the vaccine and then pandemic dead. But we haven't heard from him in a while, so he is facing criticism. This was the first White House Our top course briefing we've had since July 8, So it's also been a while since we've heard from them. We did that was led by Vice President Mike Pence, You know familiar faces like Dr Anthony Fauci, Dr Deborah Birds, They took no questions. So they are also facing quite a bit of criticism for that. But the main message that really came out of this was Them kind of touting operation Warp speed and the fact that a vaccine seems imminent. At this point, doctor Anthony about you said also that a vaccine was safe that it wasn't rushed. So he tried to reassure the public there but the the other they kind of take away with them. You know, saying that the fact that the end is in sight Help is on the way, in the words of vice president Pence and urging Americans to kind of hang in there until then, and they also talked about how there would be no National lockdown under Trump of Peds talked about how they wouldn't be closing schools. Fauci echoed this idea that there wouldn't be a lockdown. But he is urging people to be careful, especially with the upcoming holidays, and he's actually urging people not to travel for Thanksgiving. Alright, and the president today is inserting himself directly into the state of Michigan's elections prior election process is, he invites some of those officials from that state to the White House. Yes. So that's gonna be another thing to keep an eye on. This is just a continuation of the president trying Tohno contest. The election results has been repeatedly claiming without evidence that there was voter fraud. His team has been finding a number of suits in a number of different states, so he will be meeting with these officials from Michigan. It'll be interesting to see what comes out of that, but he's bound to face more criticism. You know, for for continuing to go down this route when there is, you know the whole issue of vaccine distribution. That is kind of hanging in the balance. That's something we're hearing from Vice President elect Joe Biden. He's been really voicing frustration and haven't been able to have direct contact with the administration because he hasn't been recognized President elect S O. I think President Trump found to get some criticism for focusing on Michigan and not having those conversations with Joe Biden about the future of back this vaccine. He's getting increasing criticism from his own party. Now you mentioned Joe Biden. He's meeting today with the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. That's right there he is going to be meeting with Democratic leadership. This is just, you know, yet another example of Joe Biden as president elect, trying to forge ahead and get to work and get the transition process going even though again because President Trump in the General Services Administration have not recognized him as president. There's a lot that he can't do, but he is doing as much as possible. He's also you know, he's been speaking with governors, governors from both parties he has been, you know, talking to them to try and figure out how to get the pandemic under control. And he you know, told governors that they would have the support of his White House and in fighting the pandemic, But he is, you know, I think that the main message coming from the Biden team right now is their concerns about vaccine distribution and feeling that, you know, took awhile. Tolo provide millions of covert It took eight months to provide covert tests. So Biden is concerned about just how much longer it could take to provide 330 million vaccinations. Leading the briefing today was Vice President Mike Pence. Mrs. The vice president. And even as we see help on the way vaccines being developed at a historic pace as I mentioned before us, we gather today we are seeing cases and positivity rising across the country. But we approach this moment with the confidence of experience. We know the American people know what to do. We have forged a partnership that is truly seamless with state and local health authorities. And as we'll describe you today, we've continued to work seven days a week, all Throughout this year and up to this very moment to make sure the American people have access to the health care that we want any member of our family to have as we meet this pandemic. "In an incredibly difficult moment in our state way are all overwhelmed with decisions of life and death and economic distress. The people of Illinois do not deserve a political circus. On top of that. I've maintained from the beginning that legislators have a right to make their own decisions about who leads them. And I continue to feel that way. These legislators alone hold the unique power to elect the Illinois speaker and I trust that they will think long and hard about the duties that they owe. The people that we all work for Governor Pritzker, with his strongest words yet for Speaker Madigan, saying that if the speaker doesn't come forward to reporters, and answer all their questions, then he should step down. We'll talk to Austin Bird from the Illinois Policy Institute. Okay. Great. Interesting. Hey. The White House Coronavirus Task Force, met today and had a briefing. I think it's the for Kim said in the news the first time since July. Wow, I and I was we were all looking for that, too, because it has been some time. But They were quick to remind the American people that they have been meeting for seven days a week working as a task force even though we haven't seen them publicly, this was You know, a briefing that came just as Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and the CDC today urged people not to travel. So that was a big topic. And, of course, the vaccine and help is on the way. That was the message from vice president Pence. Quote from him was America has never been more prepared to combat this virus than we are today. You know, we haven't heard from this group. And I think there's been growing criticism that we haven't heard from President Trump s. Oh, it's probably no coincidence that they came out and said, You know, we're still working on this. We you know, are still fighting it. Nice to see Deborah Berke. Cy. We haven't seen her in months and months. I think, right, you know, she's been doing more about targeted approach, talking with networks and even local media. Of across the country. She's been traveling, so we've had her on our air a couple of times in the last two months, but you're right. This. This was the first time that we've seen them all together. This was something that the vice president said that President Trump directed them to host the briefing today. Okay, well, we'll see where that goes. What's up with the census? There's some problem with the data. Yes, And we've done some reporting on this. This was the year, of course for the census and the time to complete. The census, though, was cut in half so because of the pandemic because of the pandemic pants in court fights to write, and it became somewhat political if you talk to some people They will tell you that And now we're seeing these anomalies in the data, which it has to be completed by the end of December. That was what President Trump wanted. This would be a Um, a big blow to his, um, his final. I guess. Few weeks in the White house at this point again. There are still, uh, lawsuits and him court battles going on. But this is Yeah. This is something that is brewing. We don't know exactly what those anomalies are, and this is not that unusual. This has happened before in the past. The only difference it feels like this time is they don't have much time to correct. The problems will follow that. The scariest story of the day, though, is that Texans might have a chance to vote for Matthew McConaughey for governor. That's right. I guess everybody's favorite Texan, depending on who you ask. The ladies might agree. He's talking about a potential run for governor. That was something he announced on a radio show this week coming up in our next segment, when we listen in on the news of the day, actually catch from news nation watching tonight at seven o'clock, nice to talk to you, actually. "Repair she's been radio programming from Monday WCS be accomplished we take you now to the White House rose garden for a press conference with president trump in the White House coronavirus task force we're here today to provide an update on the unprecedented testing capacity developed by the United States the most advanced and robust testing system anywhere in the world by far this afternoon I'll also announced new steps that we're taking to make tests even more widely available the battle of iris my administration marshaled every resource at our nation's disposal public private military economic scientific and industrial all at your disposal we launched the largest manufacturing ramp up since the second World War there's been nothing like it since at the center of this industrial and scientific mobilization was the development of our corona virus testing capabilities in the span of just a few short months we've developed a testing capacity on match and unrivalled anywhere in the world and it's not even close this is a core element of our plan to safely and gradually reopen America and we're opening and we're starting and there's a to Z. as in like I haven't seen in a long time every American should be proud of the amazing array of talent skill and enterprise our nation is brought to this challenge in three months the FDA has authorized more than ninety two different tests and over nine million have been performed here in the United States three weeks ago we were conducting roughly one hundred and fifty thousand tests per day now we're doing approximately three hundred thousand jobs per day a one hundred percent increase and it will go up substantially from that number this week the United States will pass ten million tests conducted nearly double the number of any other country we're testing more people per capita than South Korea the United Kingdom France Japan Sweden training Finland and many other countries and in some cases combined on Friday the FDA authorized corona virus antigen test and alternative testing technology that can be much more readily manufactured Quidel corporation which makes this newly authorized point of care test estimates that it will be able to manufacture one hundred and fifty thousand tests per day immediately increasing to three hundred thousand tests per day within just a few weeks to further expand our nation's testing capabilities this afternoon I am announcing that my administration is sin and it we've got this all approved it's all done is sending one billion dollars to America states territories and tribes so there's all been approved we've gotten it done completed the money's going out this major investment will ensure that America continues to conduct more tests than any country on earth by far I said from the beginning that the federal government would back up the stage and help them build their testing capability and capacities and that's exactly what's happened this partnership is truly for a florist we have really had a very good relationship with the states and the governors and other representatives within the states a relationship like I think I can honestly say has not been seen in this country for many many years the governors and us are working together very closely not only a testing but on ventilators where we have a capacity that's at this point virtually unlimited and we're sending ventilators as you probably heard from other countries were sending many many thousands of ventilators other countries because they're in tremendous need and I think building up a lot of goodwill but much more importantly than that we're saving a lot of lives most states are now doing a great job my administration located five thousand machines and seven hundred labs across all fifty states and governors of learn how to maximize these testing resources the federal government is also supporting states with vital supplies quick approvals of new tests and one on one coaching from the team here at the White House on how to increase capacity and increase very quickly in recent weeks we've held multiple conference calls with every state as well as with DC in Porto Rico we jointly developed testing projections and goals for each state for the month of may altogether totaling twelve point nine million tests think of that twelve point nine million tests today I am announcing that my administration will provide the collection supplies to help states meet their targets and meet them rapidly during the month of may FEMA and HHS will be delivering twelve point nine million swaps to stage nationwide we already have them the delivery will be very quick we're prepared to provide millions of additional swabs of any state is on a pace to surpass its goal and their goals are hi we set them very high we've told them to set a very high my administration will also provide approximately nine million transport media which are used to transfer swaps to the lab processing a complicated process but we've made it simple as a result of these actions every single state will be able to test more people per capita in may alone then South Korea has tested in four months since the outbreak began this major commitment is possible because of the massive mobilization of American industry including puritan medical products U. S. cotton Abbott labs at thermo Fisher some of these incredible companies produce and produce rapidly for us and their products are here with us this afternoon these are all different products that were literally just developed and if you can imagine that and these are the best machines in the best equipment anywhere in the world and other countries are calling us and we're trying to work as much as we can not only on ventilators but also with testing my administration also continues our tireless effort to expand testing in the most underserved communities through our partnership with the private sector leading pharmacies and retailers are now operating over two hundred and forty testing sites across the country and that's in addition to all of the other sites that we have work in.

"Pourtant thanks Mike Dr Fauci hundred sections disease expert and member of the White House coronavirus task force has tested negative for the virus but will be tested on a regular basis he will stay at home and telework but will go to the White House if called White House officials and congressional leaders are in talks about what to include in another round of coronavirus relief legislation treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin is among those holding discussions with lawmakers on issues including potential aid to states whose finances have been devastated by the pandemic one is the president decide if we need to spend more money to protect the American worker and the American public will absolutely do that but now having spent three trillion dollars we're gonna take a few weeks see how this is working and be considering another White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett said future legislation could include food aid to help Americans struggling with hunger amid widespread job losses it could also include broadband access for those who lack it Democrats are pushing for another massive relief bill that would include more money for state and local governments corona virus testing and the US postal service house Democrats by the way could introduce new legislation this week the jobs report was as bad as most experts believed the April unemployment rate rose to a record fourteen point seven percent and payrolls dropped by an unprecedented twenty point six million as the corona virus pandemic hit the economy but what's less evident in the latest data we're joined now by miles upland anchor at Yahoo finance mile set this up so if you look at the way that the BLS does this number is internet number how many people lost jobs versus change jobs so last month twenty point six million people lost their job eighteen million of those believe they're on a temporary layoff so that gives you that you have many people who are out of work and of those half million think they're never gonna get this job back which again that's a terrible number right but all things considered I think the way that certainly the administration want to spend it but I think the way a lot of economists are looking at it is the thesis of there will be jobs to go back to when the economy re opened in July and August depending on where you are in the country that defense remains intact I think there's a lot of challenges between here and there what happens with unemployment benefits payroll protection program extension so on and so forth but right now I think that a half million people believing they've lost their job forever is in a morbid kind of way actually good news considering the situation okay you had written a story too in which you quoted somebody who said the jobs data right now does not hold a lot of value was a sort of like corporate earnings how come well I think he got a look at that kind of commentary from very specific investor point of view obviously people were losing their jobs that's that's important to them and that is a tragedy there but jobs that we've lost but I think what we've seen in the stock market is you know dealer like weekly jobless claims manufacturing surveys we've been hearing for six weeks how bad this was going to be Friday at number it's kind of just the cherry on top that codified what everyone had been cheating already and so what the market has been looking at is really good fact that temporary number we're talking about the market is betting that tens of millions of people will get their job back in some kind of time frame and that when we get to September and into the fall into the holidays we will be looking at economy that's not great shape but not the kind of catastrophic shape we're in right now whether that you know comes to pass remains to be seen but right now that is what I think a lot of investors and the market is looking out and so the idea that you need to look past it as a professional investor you should not be surprised by anything you've heard today the public is obviously going to be shocked by it but folks paying attention should have already known that this kind of stuff is out there we speak with miles of Lynsey's an anchor at Yahoo finance can argument be made that because the economy was doing so well B. for the pandemic it enabled the US to absorb it better is that even possible yeah I I've done I've seen varieties of the documents he actually kind of try to make this argument on Friday I've I've written about this before I think in my view there's a if you really want to talk to the numbers I think you can get there but whether we had six percent unemployment for half three and a half nine percent unemployment the way that we have forced to to stop in the economy was always going to be kind of a catastrophic shock right we've never seen millions of businesses closed overnight we've never seen tens of millions of people lose their job in the span of a month and so look at it in some ways maybe it softens the blow J. Powell has talked about how well the economy was doing in January in February but that's kind of that's cold comfort that doesn't really change what's happening right now but it made me think so when I saw that boy what if this were two thousand eight or two thousand nine and this pandemic hit yeah I mean the mind sort of shutters at that point but I would have looked like fortunately didn't I mean I think the hard part about all of this your point about trying to compare to eight or nine the challenge we had you know in the investing world and try to cover business did you sell it no this is like there is no comparison so everyone you talk to they try to make a parallel but ultimately we're totally unchartered waters and I think people get people get anxious when there's nothing that they can say oh this is like that because there's no parallel lines miles miles old winds anchor at Yahoo finance fourteen minutes now after the hour on this morning America's first news coming up next the Illinois plan to re open great dot com mark your take going to be a remarkably downbeat report perhaps unprecedented in its negativity and so there's a case is that we got a pop of the unemployment rate to fifteen percent or above well we won't lost twenty million jobs in a single month but some parts about it but we know the circumstances are unlike anything with coming into the close to three hundred thousand new claims for unemployment benefits in our country and now are you only get three point two million in the latest week and a total of more than thirty million accumulated that the crisis began so you know that's quite a remarkable situation boy when you talk about being in the range of fifteen percent unemployment all of a sudden I'm it does even roll off the tongue well let's think about the fact that the economy was brought to a virtual all stopped as people went home and those who could stay home anyway to try to avoid obviously the virus and so but the toll of that obviously have become politicized to some degree and to some degree either popular or unpopular depending on all the way to one views that but there's no downplaying the enormity of the economic devastation well destruction as some like to say a meeting or a sample simply the fact that certain economic activity business activity consumer spending etcetera as we brought to a halt and some of that will not be recovered and that's why the expectation is that it could be a year and a half or we see output in our country get back to where it was coming into this crisis you said there will be no shortage of complications waiting through the reported numbers howsell well I think first of all Gordon that try to capture the tone of the job market during the best of times it is a challenging it not impossible but challenging and part of that is of the fact that one of things we measure is the workforce the workforce for the purposes of this report is to find that out either working or looking for work and so we will have people who are essentially currently outside older recently I told furloughed if you will and that will be something that will weigh on the report to the extent that they would not be considered unemployed per se bought the reality is that technically away they are and and they're among the people who might have filed for unemployment benefits so that will have the statistical relevance and the fact of limiting the unemployment rate growth meaning that if we were to truly count them that a plumber it would even be higher than that matic's sex Haitian affecting percent that we talked about before we speak with mark Hamrick senior economic analyst at Bankrate dot com talk about the April jobs report why are we watching hours and wages well for one we measure hours work simply as a function of people simply being on the job one hours worked are reduced jocularly than income all from that and then measuring the wage component this report and and a portion of it so we refer to as average hourly earnings about is going to be I thank the lord the meeting was having watched in the past for signs of long overdue wage growth during the economic expansion that took a long time to arrive and to some degree that particular in this case we will have a limited some of the lower paid jobs as a big part of that burgeoning unemployment rate this portion of the program is brought to you by Harry said that you thought Hey why not try and grow that beard now as long as I'm working for home why not well did it remind you of why you didn't grow a beard in the first place yes I can relate so if like me you realize that the just let it grow look is not.

"Cable BJ university of Texas has released a new study this is projecting the covert nineteen mortality rate this is for all fifty states getting this from CBS Austin today and a study shows it's going to be another several weeks before we'll see the peak mortality rates in most states the study says about eighty percent chance that the peak here in the United States will come around may seventh now this study differs from conclusions that have been issued from university of Washington's I H. M. E. models those are the ones of so much in use by the White House these days the I H. M. A. model says United States has already seen the peak mortality rate this is a team of UT researchers is providing their new model to the CDC and the White House coronavirus task force and as I mentioned a moment ago we're gonna be talking with one of the mathematical biologist who's involved in all this at U. T. coming up probably right after the three thirty news today right here on A. L. D. J. five one two eight three six zero five nine if you'd like to join us our our goal today is to give you as much new information about what's going on with the covert nineteen pandemic as possible given you all the factual information and of course some of the political parts of this as well of which there are many plenty of politics to go around on this topic today from the testing issues on the controversy around that too to the protesters not only here in Austin yesterday but all around the country protest in the the lack of of re opening in some states protesting the restrictions that have been put in place for businesses and individuals and as I mentioned house speaker Nancy Pelosi I said that those protesters are just the distraction here in this clip she serve not only slamming president trump but the kind of schooling the protesters on on what they should be doing as well to proceed with policies which were not science space which is not evidence based and to blame others name anybody buying the governor's blame me blame the world health organization's leaders leaders take responsibility so I said is a week later it doesn't take responsibility he places blames blame on others what we have to do is is is shelter in place that is really the answer testing tracing treatment shelter in place and I do think that it's unfortunate but you know people will do what they do people will do what they do speaker here in Texas there were several hundred people on the steps of the state capital yesterday many of them looking for an immediate lifting of the restrictions that have been put in place for these many weeks the crowds are reportedly included anti vaccine activist and at least according to this report really wasn't any larger than a typical week day rally over issues like guns or teacher pay when the legislature is in session but there they were at the Texas state capitol yesterday and as I mentioned this was just one of the chants that were heard.
