Ah, some, You know, some more old friends and some of our older friends were going Tio visit with Dave Benzer and Jim Arman trout, who are A couple of our producers on the TV side, and we'll visit with Tom at length and, you know, we'll know a lot more about what's happening with Thea. The PGA Championship, which again you know, it's so melancholy and you know, watching these stories and, you know, hearing people talk about the golf course and And I think that you know, the players are showing a great respect is great to hear Tom say that you know, 100% that they're they're liking. What they're saying out there is sure is something to be said for Ah For the city, you know, rallying together to get it to this point. You know, just a couple of guys and I'm gonna be watching. You know, when I've got my feet up in a libation and he rubs sandwich, Justin Rose, whose might be one of the nicest guys ever out on tour? Nice. Nice man Shot four under On the first him said he had no idea how he did it because he drove it so badly and I always root for him and the guy I'm really looking at, John and bear me out on this Tommy Fleetwood. Tommy Fleetwood. Looks like one of those Harding Park is the John Fry talked about this guy. He's got the longest share. You know, the scruffy beard, you know, just kind of moseyed around on the golf course like that. This guy would sit in in any Any sort of a match that you wanted to have out of any any NASA or anything at Harding Park, Devaney. And he's got the button down Cardigan which had one of those back in the day. Still have one. Yeah, Yeah. Now now it's so tight that the buttons could be shrapnel if there were a pop That's all right. That's all right. Yeah. And, you know, talking to John Fry brought back a lot of great memories. And yet you know, something that I kind of reflected on was I think when Harding really had its downfall was 1976 there was a strike among city workers, and the golf course was shuttered shutdown, but people still played that they hopped the fence. They dug up the cups. They put sticks in the holes, and there was no maintenance done for I think was about six months. And that's when I think that the golf course never really recovered. And then it was. It was sad. But yet the Ah the parking issue in the 98 U. S Open. The Olympic club. They paid the Harding in the city a lot of money to do that, And that was some money that was supposed to go to kind of the beginning of the seed money to get the golf course back in shape. And one of the only reasons they agreed to park was it's like all right, well, we're going to start tearing this place up pretty soon anyway. So what the heck, Let's make some money off the parking and go from there. So I think sometimes that you know the parking issue gets a little bit overdone, but but so be it. I've always thought that too. I heard that story years ago that it made it sound like you know, the really rich guys came down and took the land from the really poor guys and used it for their really expensive cars. And, you know, it wasn't like that at all. It was exactly like you. You said it and I'm going to admit something on the arrogant now, John. I'm sitting in my bedroom and about 15 feet away from me is 150 yard marker White Post with the red letters that I took from hurting park on its last day. My son and I played on the slot on the last day and the 150 yard market was near some some debris that was marked to be taken away, and I thought Going to take this and it was right on the 15th hole right in about 150 yards, and it's it's in my garden right now. So I hope the police don't come knocking on the door. If Jean White hears this, please don't send the police. Well, it's not needed now, because the guys, we're driving it so far. They need more like 100 yard marker on that I was watching yesterday and somebody had 64 yards to the first green. Yeah. John, How do you do that? Well, yes, I remember. Yeah, I remember when we did this in the around 1999 just before the Harding was redone..

"Markets describing the scene there after police have now issued their first warning telling everyone that's there at Westlake park to disperse and telling them that they're violating the curfew that's been in effect for a little more than four hours here in the city of Seattle for the second night in a row as you heard Matt described by police are planning to issue a second warning at some point how to try to get those folks to disperse if they do not abide by those they were understanding is that they will start making some arrests down there but you heard with an earlier interview that's Matt had with David Lewis was one of the protest's organizers of this protester demonstration that you've been saying throughout the night here they're planning to come back again tomorrow at three o'clock in the afternoon after a message that they're saying that they are proving that they can be peaceful throughout their the actions that they've taken today yeah they said indeed that they had been peaceful on that they have proven that to the officers on the city of Seattle and because of that they've earned the right to come back and they want to March tomorrow and they expect to not be stopped by police I don't think that means that they have a permit and that typically is what has to happen but it has been an interesting couple days but they did at one point when police told him they wanted him to leave David Lewis told the crowd let's go home and a lot of them have laughed what you're looking at here now is a live shot that is I believe this is right at fourth and pine just around the corner from Westlake and you can see the line of officers on blocking the street and and this is sort of in the strategy that we seen all day long leading some of the protesters move about but keeping them corralled if you will it was sort of a similar strategy that we still.
The aftermath: Cleanup begins after rioters loot, destroy downtown Seattle businesses
"You can believe what we've got quite a clean up in our city damage yesterday after some events that we came from what was to be a calm protest at Westlake center but some other people have other intentions contentimage hospital the first of call reporters back among all the garbage in the damage along Fifth Avenue early this morning just taking a closer look at this damage out here is really heartbreaking and astounding you're right I'm outside of urban outfitters in the windows right here are completely shattered windows that are broken out glass shattered everywhere also graffiti up here it looks like writers used something to smash into the store and get inside and something was obviously used right here to Pierce this window and then looking inside the story it was completely looted people went inside to whatever they wanted at last check Seattle police telling us at least twenty seven people have been arrested for some kind of arson assault looting the National Guard I came here to help them and get a handle of the situation we've seen lots of people out here trying to start cleaning up the process the priority said Seattle police are saying is to save lives and to try and start getting this cleanup started
Seattle protest turns violent with looting and fires downtown
"What were planned to be peaceful protest eventually turn to chaotic scenes on the downtown streets of Seattle yesterday protesters gathered to express their outrage and sadness over the police killing of George George Floyd demonstrations started out peaceful but police clash with protesters in the late afternoon Cairo radios Hannah Scott says many of the demonstrators spoke out against the violence and looting that occurred but she says this may not be the end of the protests it was the sound as writers took over the city torching Seattle police SUVs and other vehicles stealing rifles and smashing in windows and looting dozens of shops near Westlake center the looting seem to be an almost organized effort and many in the crowd were not happy about it
Violence, destruction mar Seattle protests over the death of George Floyd
"Protest over the death of George Floyd turned violent in downtown Seattle starting this afternoon around four o'clock people said several police cars on fire on pine street com was Nick problem was there it is in fact a police car that is on fire it's a police vehicle that's on fire off in fifth and finally saw the flames just about ten to fifteen minutes ago give or take off into the distance near the Nordstrom and that's the car apparently that is on fire and you could see the smoke continued to billow up it's becoming less clear to see down pine street which is going toward a high five we know the demonstrators have sort of lined this entire story apparently we're getting word that there is also another car on fire that'd be within this general area so again you can see that a lot of a lot of ocean taking place here on pine street we can see both those cars on fire because these demonstrators continue to show some unrest here at fifth and pine and again these fires are going ask there's a peaceful protest happening at Westlake park so as we've mentioned two different types of mentalities and energies taking place here in downtown Seattle we have some peaceful protests happening over at Wesley Clark and then of course these fires and smoke and apparently more cars on fire como's Nick problem
Looting and fires continue in downtown Seattle as protests turn violent
"Nick tell us where you are and what you can see well it since about three this afternoon we've been here in the west like pause over near Westlake park and behind us you can see still demonstrators that have been we're essentially the epicenter of this entire day going to began with all this frustration at being pent up against law enforcement over at fifth and behind those car fires obviously been put out but Kane county sheriffs and tactical gear made their way through the area just I'd say about ten minutes ago but right now it seems that a lot of people just been standing around and have just been continuing to demonstrate despite many people moving on to different locations all we've seen a couple different businesses being broken into the doc martens on fourth Avenue we saw people running in there about five or six people but aside from that and the gap store over at the corner of fifth and pine demonstrators continue to just stand down and protest and show their frustration over what's happened with what happened in Minneapolis and several other different locations obviously a lot of frustration continues to grow and people continuing to want to demonstrate that whether it's on TV or whether it's here on the streets of Seattle on but either way and this is been the scene that we've been seeing for I'd say the last ten fifteen minutes with only a couple walking away you could see people walking away with a mannequin pieces of mannequins and also came from stores it's it's it's been quite a scene in the last twenty to thirty minutes you're located at Westlake center that's where the rally he organized a rally was held it was supposed to be peaceful there are pastors people speaking on the stage so from where you are right now from the vantage point where you are at any sort of organized assembly it's over now correct yeah there there is no organized assembly that that ship sailed a while ago in this area they have that organized protests that happened from at Westlake park but as soon as that March when all they had made their way away from this area and I was to ride out where that fire had taken place spent lining up all right up against those demonstrators who are still here over at fifteen point Nick thank you very much I'm gonna ask your camera man if I can to zoom in back over to the right Justin this down being saying we just saw moments ago a group of people walking through downtown Seattle with legs and arms of mannequins that they've stolen from looting in the store there's an obscene gesture Fauria but really an astounding and just incredibly sad thing to see that is happening in downtown Seattle tonight you mentioned the doc martens store looted the north face store looted the Old Navy store was looted earlier tonight the poly clinic set on fire police vehicles burned and it we've talked most of the night about these two separate groups there was the peaceful protest the peaceful demonstration speeches made our prayers prayed that's all said and done what's happening now from here on out the people that are downtown now or are there I'm guessing for reasons of raging of violence of looting and pillaging the downtown core of Seattle and this is going to be interesting to see if and when the National Guard gets here how they're going to put a stop to that the mayor said the National Guard should be in place sometime tonight and this is an unarmed National Guard coming in possibly if necessary to protect citizens it's also interesting to note that earlier when protesters and demonstrators and riders were marching towards the police precinct there was a line of police officers protecting that building just an hour ago mayor Jenny Durkan addressing the city she said quote we will take all steps necessary to protect residents and property in the city but Eric as you mentioned we have seen live images of people actively looting vandalizing stealing from the downtown shopping corridor and this live look right here right now so bold maybe this is where Nordstrom is near right near Pacific place a couple blocks away from pike place market we have yet to see police activity protecting the stores or standing guard to protect the property in the downtown area on those police are stretched so thin because these groups have splintered off into several different areas and of course they have they have set up a line around police headquarters are trying to protect that they are trying to protect the stores and and the citizens but they are stretched so thin at this point but it's almost impossible without some more help and again I'm worried about when darkness comes here in another hour hour and a half what's going to happen under the cover of darkness as as this chaos continues in downtown Seattle again the speeches have been spoken in the prayers have been prayed in the protests have been protested now this is ugliness in our city this is sheer "My special guest Aaron poll, my favorite estate agent is here with me from Coldwell Banker in Westlake village. And Erin, I asked you right before the break us that we were going to mention this. And we're going to go to the phones. When it comes to actually ROI return on investment of people who are nervous, and they feel like, you know, I've got to spend money on my house before in order to get it ready to sell. That's that's a reality. For a lot of people. We were looking at the nationals realtor association is at association of relocation, and they had put out a report saying, basically, and I'm gonna ask you if this is your experience as well. They put out a report, basically, saying a smaller investments almost always have a great ROI on return. So whether we're fixing something outside exterior paint the cost of doing that recoup in the cost of the house. And even when it comes to kitchens and bathrooms. What they specifically said were small-scale kitchen remodels, not full blown. So this is getting back to what you were talking about before earlier when instead of full on cabinet replay gutting the kitchen, even if your kitchen is dated that's gonna run you forty fifty sixty thousand. I mean, it could just go go go, you can drop forty thousand on a kitchen in a heartbe right? Yeah. But remodels like in the fifteen thousand dollars or less category in which we're just changing some elements may changing the cabinet doors may be just the hardware. Maybe we're painting the cabinet something or or the countertop alone. Those according to this report, a seemed to be recouping at least one hundred percent of their value. Is that what you're finding is. Well, absolutely, it makes perfect sense. Because if people wanna watch. Walk in and see themselves living in a house. And if you know if the if the cabinet doors are skew or their or their. That was that thing that these like antique all the cabinets. Everything was antique, right? If they're dated really really dated. It's really pretty simple to update a kitchen without having to spend fifty sixty seventy thousand dollars just on the surface. And and paint, the cabinets and do the hardware. You could do Jessica countertop. If the cabinets are in good shape. There's all sorts of things if you're if you're sink looks like, you know. Black lagoon. Race it. Well, put you know. Yeah. But that's just the sink. Exactly as opposed everything else. Exactly. Makes perfect sense. All right. We're gonna talk more about it. In fact, let's talk to Alex, Alex. Welcome home. Good morning. Thank you. You've kind of touched on my subject guy. I'm going to be selling my mother's home on the Westside of Los Angeles. And it seems like all the homes botanist area are torn down or drastically remodeled. I just wanna know how much effort put in. Getting his house ready. If it's going to be torn down effort wasted. Well, how bad a shape is it in right now. It's bedroom. House built in the early sixties. It's in pretty good shape. It has hardwood floors underneath the carpeting it probably need. But I think it's only two bedroom. So but the area is the location near marina del Rey. And so it would. Like, I said everything's being torn down. It's sold in this area. How many bathrooms Alex? One and a half one and a half. Now, here's an important question. How you know with all the other remodels are going on around you, do, you know in the neighborhood, how many bathrooms are ending up in most of the houses in your neighborhood like the cop for for how many bathrooms? Wade seems the more the better. But no, I don't have a number on that. Okay. So that may be something you want to look into. I'm not going to suggest that you expand the envelope of the house, but as opposed to like remodeling the bathrooms that you've got if you find yourself in a house that has one one and a half bathrooms in the neighborhood that now is typically three bathrooms, right? Probably have a better return on investment by seeing if you could add a second bathroom inside the house as opposed to going over a big remodel of everything else. But let me throw that to Aaron and just ask her. What do you think about Alex? Hi, Alex, good morning. Good morning. So on the west side. Where everything sells so quickly. And it sounds like you're going to be in a price range that'll sell before it's even hit the market. So you don't think he has anything to worry about? I don't think you have anything to worry about. I would say, you know, if you wanted to pull the carpet up if the wood floors underneath are in good shape. And and you know, you could paint if it's you know, if if if that's going to the four you do that look and see who in your neighborhood is the local expert column have him come over and give you give you an assessment. Get local realtor who does a lot of business in that neighborhood who has a good reputation and have them over and having to take a look, and they'll tell you exactly to buy point of why you are sitting here with me today because I get these questions all the time. And I almost always invariably say, hey, I'm gonna give you some advice on the air. I'm gonna give you some advice in your Email response. But call a local realtor, they're going to tell you. They've got their finger on the pulse of what is going on in your neighborhood. And what would be the best scenario for what you need to do to the house. But generally speaking, unless something is like, we've said already the good news is for everybody and less things are just falling apart around, you you have to do far less to your house to get it ready to sell than you think in some ways in terms of money, but maybe a little bit more effort than you expected in terms of getting it cleaned up and get. Looking speaking span. Thank you very much. Thanks, alex. Really? Appreciate it. Okay. Well, we're going to talk more and more about this. As we go along on some of our earliest, colonial homes in America. Regardless of the color of the rest of the house. You will find a Red Front door? Why was it Arctic expression? Or was it something else? Here's a hint. It's a real estate answer, which I shall reveal to you..
