"Right outside of Westerville and before these protests were going on we were gonna drive by shootings drug dealers everything like this constantly ended up since this has happened and I've contacted everybody from my leasing office to the police department to the narcotics unit to city council who my representative we went and nothing's been done about it nothing so I know there's the other side of the coin there were some people don't want this policing but then there's other neighbors that neighborhoods that need to be policed more and it's just not being done our community patrol officer told me at one point when we had a negligent discharge of a firearm three doors down from me he said look you can defend yourself and in the long run I'm not here to babysit you and I want to get home to my family and I will be away of the veteran because I couldn't say you know what Sir today I'm not going to war I couldn't do that making eighteen thousand dollars a year but make it sixty seventy thousand dollars a year early so if you can just briefly describe some of those processes that you've been through in trying to alert people and and get attention and get your problem solved is it and I'm not trying to minimize it is I mean it is it as simple as making a phone call and leaving a message is it a quick email did you have any sort of meaningful dialogue with anybody just kind of describe I've had a lot of lip service is what it seems like when I got in touch with my representative he was very kind caring you know and I was a politician I see you have to do that to your constituency yeah and he helped me get directed in the right direction which was towards city council the main thing I brought this up is our street lights have been out for the most part for the last month which makes it hard to identify criminals that are doing these things I have a list of the street lights turn on first you haven't been on they haven't been on and this was about three weeks ago I contacted up to speed on occasionally sporadic way but not for any soda not contact the city council they pretty much gave me a lot of lip service to very nice people and I'm sure they're nice people but again it was more like service where they said they want well don't get touch with people it just hasn't happened I got the call the B. division of street lighting every single night for the past three I had to get my friends there and they don't even live in the neighborhood I was just gonna ask Ryan in again I I admire your tenacity and in trying to do this especially if you're making calls night after night and let me just say this you know our other people you kind of alluded to diluted toward toward the end there are other people helping your costs because if they think it's gods that Ryan guy calling again they know by now you're the only guy they they probably just think others guys he's got nothing better to do it again I'm not trying to minimize it but unless other people are actively doing the same thing I'm I'm guessing that you don't get to prioritize ation as her technician is there but I think there's just so much red tape and bureaucracy at this point the order just floating around all these programs that there's nothing set in stone it really is getting these people to do their job and I think that's what will now do my neighbor last weekend had an entire magazine of nine millimeter bullets dumped into the back of our house lord yes and they have not of the patrols I see a patrol so while the drive thru but they're in and out once there they wrote it right out the other part of Westerville as you say I don't want you to give your address we can can can can you can you can you can you fine tune it a little bit as to that that location Knowing Our Limits

"This week knowing our limits act to try and do as much as I can myself? Sometimes I'm not always GONNA ask him for help if I think I can do it. Figured out but there are certain things I have to ask for help from others so I had a bright idea to change out an recently and we get the outlet changed out. Everything's fine except it's not turning on a tried the circuit breaker. I try and make sure everything's all fine at the outlet turned off and I was so. Don't worry I wasn't trying to keep myself but I've got to a point where I realized I needed to call and electricity to figure it out. I can learn electrical work for one day but sometimes I know it's best to ask for the help of others until I'm more adequately learned electrical wire and I may never learn it in the past. I have fried the board of electrical plants because I use the wrong polarity of electricity. I regret doing that. I'm a lot more careful with polarities. Then we call it the electrician. It was handyman connection of Westerville Savannah Columbus area. They do an amazing job in the prices are great and they came out had to switch out and working within thirty minutes dated a better job than if I had done it myself. With my lack of knowledge my dad just released an article for our companies memo as we move forward on asking for help and in the article about how asking for help and giving help. Both of those actions validate the role of those who have the ability to assist says the experience or the know. How do things when you ask for help? Your validating what that person capable of and when you give help you vowed another person by offering assistance and using a skill that you've built up I have learned so much listening to others from their experiences and learning from others. I can't do it all myself though things that I'm going to get better at like I've gotten better podcasting audio and streaming. They're doing but along the way I have asked people for help. I've gotten advice. That has not just been me blindly going in without people's guidance so this week let's think through what are limits are no that the limits aren't things that we can never attain but sometimes until we get to the ability that we can go over those limits. We need the help others to help us eventually. Move

Warren edges ahead of Biden in pre-debate poll

"Will the democratic presidential candidates will debate tonight in Westerville Ohio for a race that seems static for a long time suddenly there is a lot going on here's NPR national political correspondent Mara license for the first time since he entered the race Joe Biden has lost his clear front runner position Elizabeth Warren is on the rise and Bernie Sanders just had a heart attack so you wouldn't blame Democrats of their heads are spinning if you look at the democratic race now you'd have to say that Elizabeth Warren is the stock that you would buy five may be stock that you hold on to for a while longer but you're getting nervous that's David Axelrod who is Barack Obama's top strategist Democrats are nervous because Biden is being pummeled by millions of dollars of trump attack ads pushing a false narrative that Biden and his son did something illegal in Ukraine when Biden was the vice president that says axle rod is the eight hundred pound gorilla that will certainly come up in Ohio tonight most of what the president has said has been widely debunked but there is this question of you know why his son was on the role of this Ukrainian company while he was vice president I don't know that he can get away with swatting that question aside as he has Democrats are worried that even though the trump charges are false the president will get a kind of liars dividend his multi million dollars worth of attack ads on TV and social media amplify the charges and so doubt among Democrats not that Biden is guilty but that he'll be weakened as a candidate still the attacks or an opportunity for Biden says terra McAllen the founder of acronym and democratic digital advocacy organization I think that this provides biting potentially the best opportunity they're ever going to get to that after this real fight between him and frowned and demonstrate his strength and electability against trump in the general election after wrestling with how best to handle trump's attacks last week Biden decided to get more aggressive we all laughed when he said he could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoots someone and get away with it it's no joke the shooting holes in the constitution and we can not let him get away with it well my name has been figuring out how to handle trump Elizabeth Warren has continued her steady rise and not just because she's run a really good primary campaign with money organization and grassroots enthusiasm but also says democratic pollster Stan Greenberg because she tapped into a pent up desire among Democrats for government action to solve big problems like corporate corruption income inequality and climate change he is constantly talking about things government can do Democrats want an activist government and they're looking for after being suppressed by a decade of tea party dominance and now trump dominance Warren stands to benefit if Biden can't jujitsu trump's attacks to strengthen his own position she also stands to benefit of Sanders heart condition keeps him on the sidelines but with warns rise comes scrutiny which she has not had to face so far as one centrist Democrat quipped Warren has a plan for everything except how she'll be Donald Trump and that's another thing Democrats are worried about says terra McAllen how she is going to get the most voters including independence and swing voters who who don't want to see another four years of trump but maybe aren't as excited about the more progressive policies that she champions that really is is the challenge worries among Democrats that Warren is too far left to win a general election spiked last week when Warren gave this flip response on CNN when asked by an L. G. B. T. Q. activist what she would say to someone who believes marriage is between one man and one woman I don't wanna say than just merry one one she waited a bit and then headed this snarky comment you can find one sounds like he was saying anyone with those beliefs is a loser or maybe just deplorable in addition to worries about warrants electability and Biden's ability to perform Democrats are also watching an intramural primary going on you could call it the Biden understudy battle that's where Peter the judges the candidate to watch says David Axelrod but the judges still pulling in the single digits but he came in third in last quarter's fundraising behind Warren and Sanders but ahead of Biden if Biden were to stumble who could take up that late people to church is clearly now angling for that now he is more moderate in temperament and in policy then certainly than Warren or Sanders and he's been more pronounced about his differences with them lately so tonight's debate takes place against a backdrop of a lot of churn in the democratic race with three and a half months before any Democrat votes or caucuses a lot can still change Mar Eliason NPR news Washington

"Talk tomorrow at noon on six ten WTVN. Welcome back to what matters with Mindy and Michaela on a beautiful cold cold but beautiful Sunday, and we are about to talk to one of our favorite public officials. You know, not every day. You get a police chief to call you up and talk to you. But this is not the ordinary police chief, in fact, he's not even a police chief anymore. Joe morbid sir has been with the Westerville city police department for more than thirty two years, and he joins us now live on the phone high gel. Can you believe it's over? No, I can't many thanks for having me on all. We're so glad to have you on Joe. And you know, I didn't get a chance to work with you as much as my husband. Did he really enjoyed working with you? And I kind of followed you from far in what a great choice by attorney general ios to help lead BCI into the next years. And so we're we're so glad to talk with you today. We're very fortunate leaving an outstanding organization, and I have the good fortune to go to another outstanding organization, which not many people get that opportunity. Some very blessed and fortunate you I want to start at the beginning with you being a police officer first of all these days, it's not an easy thing to do. So from the bottom of my heart. I just want to thank you. Because I've lived in Westerville about all my life. My kids are they're my family. Everybody's there. And I want to just thank you for everything you have done keeping that city safe and just being an officer of the law because you see so much these days that you just very undeserved treatment of officers anymore these days, but we're very fortunate Westerville devout outstanding employees, and that comes through very planned in strategic recruiting process to get the right people into the police department, and you've led that Joe I mean is it was it a tough decision to make you're going from one amazing organization to another. But I saw that dispatch headlines. Eight of Ohio's gain. I mean, truly how was it tough to make the decision. Oh, absolutely. You know, I look at again, a department of our size in Westerville is more family than work because we see each other every day. And when you think about it, most of the employee's spend more time with anybody more time with him with each other than they do with anybody else. So it's truly a family, and it's hard to leave family when you first got interested in becoming a police officer years ago. What was it that made you want to be a police officer, even as a little boy did you want to do that? Well, maybe you didn't have to say years. It just a couple of years ago. We actually had a a neighborhood police officer, and we would play football and baseball on the streets and the neighbors would call to get us out of the street. Well, rather than than the show us off. He would take us around to a side street. Take off his belt put it in the truck and he played with us. You know, play football and baseball with us. I thought that was the greatest thing I'd love to do that. And that's what started my influence in law enforcement. That's awesome. I never knew that story. Joe? That's wonderful. Well, and it just shows you when you do have contact and build relationships what it can do you know in the neighborhood. I grew up in was pretty rough neighborhood and not a lot of people got opportunities. So when you have an impact like that. That officer probably saved a number of kids will in the wrong direction. When did you start to know as you became an officer? Joe that you were having that kind of impact what what was a moment or an experience. You had that let you know. Wow. I chose to do the right thing. Oh, gosh. Dealing with kids. I mean, when you see kids that I gotta go to cops and kids day. And when you see kids in the smiles on their face when they're talking to public safety officials that pays based evidence greatly. Oh my gosh. I bet when you look back at your career Westerville other than being with the kids all the time. What are some of your other favorite memories? Well, relationships in general, we have tried extremely hard in Westerville. And especially in the police department to diversify the the city staff in our organization, the police department we've been very successful in that. And then just looking at bringing department into a higher level of technology by leaps and bounds. We've changed over when I started. Diversity and inclusion is such a big topic from police departments to large corporations to the fact that you all put really an emphasis on that means so much. It's really kind of being in a leading position for police departments here across Ohio and across the country. Well, and I also look at things like community culture day in Westerville neighborhood bridges neighbor to neighbor, our community is very welcoming. It's very inclusive very accepting. And we're very fortunate to live in a city that has that byu. You know, it'll be a couple of weeks. It'll be a year in a couple of weeks that you lost officers during an officer to Morelli and man that had to be by far in your personal life in your professional life. The most difficult thing you've had to face it. Absolutely. Was. You know, everybody talks about a new normal or or getting back to normal. And that will never happen. You do have to tape. It take a different direction and move forward. But it's never going to be an shouldn't be back to normal because there is no normal. Now, what we have to look at is the legacy, Tony, and Eric both left us, and that those are big shoes to fill because both of those guys were not just outstanding cops they were just really good hearted people given that what do you think, you know, as you're getting ready to take this new post in it's been a tumultuous past year? Joe, what do you think you've learned about yourself? Maybe that you didn't know as you're moving onto this next position. Given all the tappan. Well, not so much about myself. But you learn about how you gain strength from others. And you look at other people and. You're at how strong they are. I looked to the families of Tony Eric had how strong they were. Through this whole situation, and you came strength from that because they are fantastic people and just. You know, you you look at that. In your your troubles are not troubles anymore. That's right. You realize that other people have much bigger much bigger things going on their life than than Mike, trivial issues. You know, what you talking about? Why you even got interested in becoming a law enforcement officer when you were a little boy little voice should still always feel that way. But are you looking at what officers face every day anymore and so much backlash? Do you feel like people still want to become police officers these days? Absolutely. When we give a test where we test station wide, and we get people from all over the country looking at our our department, and it's not just police officers. But in all levels of our organization in Westerville our last it crime analysts that we recruited was out of Miami, Miami, Florida, and she chose our department, and we were extremely lucky to get such good quality people as we we did with her. So you are finding people are applying wanting to be officers. There's not a big change in that. The numbers are down across across the board. One of the reasons the numbers are down as the retirement system. A lot of people retiring so everybody in Ohio are of in competition for the same Ohio residents. And that's also one reason we test nationally is to get other candidates and increase our recruit pool. So you're going to be the new superintendent you are the new superintendent of the bureau of criminal investigation. He is he's the guy. Now, the guy VCI like that. Joe? There you go. Joe Mindy Michaela just gave you your new title officially I'm officially unemployed today. What else start, but I'm officially among the ranks of the unemployed today field. Joe, it's it's odd. Today than I am it's going to be an odd thing not going into the office tomorrow. So much good at C. I and from what you know, so far what are some of the priorities for you and AG Joost. Is you take that position? Well, I was very fortunate humble and to be asked by the attorney general to to serve in that capacity. But I look at what they do BCI last year, they investigated four hundred twelve homicides are unusual deaths. They processed over three hundred thousand pieces of evidence. So when you look at that, they're highly efficient effective organization with some outstanding people, and you've got to realize that they operate throughout the state, and they process evidence and crime seems for police departments all across our say. Well, we can't thank you enough for calling in today. And we really appreciate it. You're always always in our corner. And we're always in your corner. And I know that people Westerville love you dearly. And seriously, thanks for everything. You've done about ten seconds. Anything you want to say to the people of Westerville. Thank you for an outstanding ride. It's been wonderful, and we've done outstanding things together, and the people that you have there the public safety official. Tells you should be thankful for the people you have because they all know how to lease from the heart. Thanks so much for coming in. We appreciate it. And we're thinking of us you start the job tomorrow. Thank you. You guys be safe? You U2. coming up next is dental floss toxic. Actually, we're going to have to put that on hold because I just got a text from from Dr Runyon, he's stuck in traffic. So we're going to talk about something else when we come back. All right. "And how far would you go to get your insurance cheaper? I'm in the process right now of. A certain company has is screwing me and my wife boy because they're getting rid of our accident forgiveness because of an accident that I was not at fault for so in essence, you're not getting forgiveness for it. No. Inches away. And it's bump us up thirty dollars a month and car insurance. So like I'm out of here, I'm done. So if my Westerville math Westerville north math is correct that's three hundred and sixty dollars a year. You know, it's more than that. Yeah. No. That's right. That's thirty dollars a month. Right. So that's three hundred sixty dollars a year. More of. Yeah. That's a little little. Yeah. Three hundred and twenty dollars or somewhere near yet. 'cause we think about twelve times thirty up. Yeah. Three hundred and sixty right, right. Yeah. I knew my to my Westerville north math paid off. Yeah. No. So when it goes up that much, and it's over one accident one accident that I was ruled not at fault for not cited we it was the semi truck that cut me off the cosmic and have to slam on my brakes. And so you had a claim that you didn't even but because they pay because the semi took off. So they couldn't get the uninsured. Right. They they paid out nineteen thousand dollars to the other two cars. I hit because when I when I had the same on the brakes and lost control. Well, this guy out of Canada. I mean, he wanted to buy this Chevy Cruz, and I guess out of Al Bernard Canada, the guy could not afford the insurance. And I can't imagine why he wants to remain anonymous during the story, but he does he legally changed his gender to get a cheaper auto insurance rate. So he could actually by the vehicle. And he he's in his early twenties. He learned that after an earlier collision and some traffic tickets. His insurance rate would be around forty five hundred dollars a year, which is about thirty four hundred dollars US because he is in Alberta Canada. Well, the man learned that the rate for a woman would be about a thousand dollars cheaper. So what's the normal thought process there, of course, change your gender? He legally changed his gender from male to female on his birth certificate and driver's license by first getting a note from his doctor saying that he identified as a woman. So the the, yeah, I.
