Paul George's Missed Free Throws Could Haunt Him and the Clippers

"Go back to the The clippers and last night's loss so hard for the sons. And i'm trying not to be too hard on him because i'm sure if you're a clippers fan Both of you are really upset to dan. Upset you and you know. We got to respect what they've done. I'm just not pulling formula win. Paul george and those two free throws if he makes those two free throws the alleyoop to andrei deondraye eight and means nothing. If you'd have made those two three throws then an island would have been like. Do not let him shoot a three here right. Exactly just guard against the three an easy yup or follow. Follow put on the line. Don't let devon booker or wanted s you to suit a three if they were up three with twelve seconds to go now. We actually have paul george talking. After last night's game about missing those two free throws put me position to extend league Always commented at the free throw line. i've always been very successful in question moments at the free. Throw line Tonight successful what can you say opposite of to the greatest of them say but it but in a critical playoff game in the western conference finals is different from a regular season game where you brick too.

Shannon Sharpe reacts to Lakers GM 3 loss to Nuggets in Western Conference Finals

"III LOVES SIGHT THAT LOSS. From the Lakers and how about we break it down right now guys Lebron. What is third triple-double this postseason, but it wasn't enough against the nuggets. Last Night Denver led by twenty as late as the fourth quarter Lebron Ford in thirteen points in a last-ditch comeback at. Albury, finished with a team I twenty, eight, ten of which came in the fourth defend off Lebron the Lakers and hold on for the one fourteen to one. Oh, six Windsor Shannon. What is the biggest reason? The Lakers lost this one. They came out they came out and look like a team was to oh, and they just thought you know we don't come on here and do what we do and and not play hard and you could tell early on the nuggets were getting whatever they want. They drive laid up in the paint they you'll get to his dominant hand his right hand. Kiva phenomenal player. He's GonNa make shot skip that shot that he hit with the clock winding down on the right foot. I note most guys right handed shoot that shot Dirk Nowitzki made famous what he shot off his left leg I've never seen right hand guy shoot that shot up the up the wrong foot. I mean, 'cause we shoes tonight expected to go in everybody that's a bad shot clock winding up I expected to go in but I did not expect the Lakers to look this flat. We've haven't seen them even even against a Portland skip the first game even against the rockets the first game they didn't look this flat they I'm like broad do realize the western conference finals. you mentioned it a D. Two rebounds and they came in the last five minutes of the Game Hey deeply forty-three minutes. Avail one rebound white one rebuilt. If you tell me skill that the nuggets will out rebounded again by nineteen. If you tell me, they're going to turn the ball over the Lakers. I'm going to say the nuggets going to win the series, but I don't believe that I believe Lebron ad will play better I. Believe Lebron will be more aggressive because I thought the second the second in the third quarter. Eighty go it and it seemed like Lebron was designed to say you know what you gotta go hey, we're gonNA keep going. But skipped ahead, given up so much ground they had dug themselves. So much of a whole maybe if they don't allow get a eighteen twenty, maybe ten twelve now they can complete the comeback but I thought the Lakers played like a team that was looked. Like they didn't have they had a away game and if through this game away but what are the process what you've done if that you giving these guys confidence because now they think they can beat you they do they feel like Murray for sure thinks he can be yes and he's talking like He. SHOULD BE UP TWO GAMES TO ONE IS I've seen story before the thing is with this guy when he gets hot and. Those lash those last second shot because I saw him in game seven you remember the clock out of both have and he throwing up three's from twenty five from thirty feet and he switching. So he has confidence in their gaining companies but the problem that also has get, you can't have every guy that played for the nuggets with the exception of to a temp equal to or more free throws they Lebron James that tells. Me He's not getting he's not driving the ball. He's not aggressive enough or they're not calling it. So for me, that was the different. They just lacked intensity. They came out like a team that was too low and had the game to throw away I. Expect I know for certain and I'm going I, don't care I. don't care what the line he'll. I won't do on it right now you do I won't do right now.

"Well like you know I don't know if he's Grown like since the Lakers as and whatever. But like a definitely a guy like you know he kind of I think firing him after six Games was obviously probably embarrassing thing for him and probably like they should've just fire him or hand if they were going to short of leash but like did not do himself. Any favors with that Lakers team and you know maybe the Pacers are A. Little different, there are little less like established star veteran heavy and sell like maybe that's a team that can kinda grow with him a little bit better but definitely was I think the wrong call for the Lakers at the point where they were at. Yeah. Definitely. Actually really crazy too because he went remember he got hired by the cavs again the next year and fired after you're like Dan Gilbert. Never mind. This was a mistake. If if if the cavs hadn't won the title in in Twenty fifteen or sixteen, I showed remember anything from Yeah Twenty. Sixteen. I'm that's not a cast fan but. You. Know I think Dan Gilbert might be the worst owner in basketball other than tillman for data but. That's a hot take, but it's like a Dan Gilbert. You the the one thing you can give him credit for us. He will spend when like it's time to like build a winner likes. Lebron will on seniors and Cleveland. They didn't always make the best move, but they were willing to spend, which is one of the most valuable traits I think you can have especially in market owner but like yeah, I mean in terms of being hands on and being a yeah. Yeah. If Lebron had not been born in Akron Ohio like I wonder if there would be riots in the street right now. At this point. Oh, most definitely well, Harrison. This was a lot of fun man I. Always appreciate to talk to you. Thank you for coming on. What do you want people know that you're working about working?.

"Welcome to another edition the. PODCAST, I'm your host. Mark Schindler Today Is September Twenty First Twenty twenty where coming at you after game two of the Western Conference finals and I am proud and happy to be joined by the editor in chief of espionage in Lakers. So silver screen role if you're not aware Harrison Vagrant Arison, how're you doing today man? It last night I'm doing pretty well last night that was a fun game that was a fun ending a stressful ending if you're like actually trying to cut Brit but like a fun ending and you know obviously like all of the stuff that came out of it, you know from what the players were saying afterwards to like you know all the means on twitter and like people reacting and stuff, and then some of the. Trash talk that's come out this morning like You know it was honestly like those are my favorite kind of basketball games to like cover in the after like after I'm actually done with the coverage it's like some of my favorites thus but you know in the moment, it can be pretty stressful. But you know like thankfully was an early game out still able to get bed like a decent time and you know like. A lot of involvement down was a lot of fun. Man It was a I'll be honest I. AM point for the nuggets in this one. Just because I know a lot. Just, another just another like another notch on the belly hundred. Ugly. Even them it's OK. Leave Lakers will process. Yeah. Hey I'm just a small medium member so it doesn't it doesn't count as much right but. I know it's so it's actually really forty one of the first things I wanted to talk about. You know obviously the clippers ousted by the Stanford team and I think the first thing I say, two because I'm tired of like everybody's talking about the Lakers I mean the clippers see there I go again I'm just tired of everyone talking about the clippers team that I mean yeah. They didn't live up to their potential, but I mean the nuggets beat them fairly squarely. So I think that's that's always WANNA put out right on the bat but. Look, at the clippers remembered the other day because of Lakers twitter in means of course, of the ad campaign that the clippers released before the season Oh. Yeah. I. Know that you remember exact ad campaign. Oh No, I don't just remember the ad campaign. I.

"A lotta great stuff from that, but it's a long clip. I mean, I love Murray today to. Put them respect on our last night. Talking to TNT ESPN the crew. Here's the other thing man it drives me crazy. The national media's giving joker his do. That's right. I. Did hear Reggie Miller. He was the best player in the series absolutely was. But it still feels like they're. Like Oh, he's. He's so goofy. How did he make that? Somehow he does. Jokers damn. Good folks. It's not goofy. It's not strange. He's just good I. Don't know they have an idea of who should be the best player in the NBA it joker doesn't fit the mold. Murray does. Murray's. Scores the way you see irregular score. Luca's James. Harden does joker doesn't. Yeti is going on. Man. The. Nuggets Okay Aba they've been to the finals a few times twice I think, right? Once or twice I I don't really count that sorry I. Don't NBA. The nuggets this is their third trip to the Western Conference Colfax Western. Conference finals. and. First Time was in Nineteen eighty-four, Alex English and company. They lost the conference finals to the Lakers four to one. They didn't get back in for. Very. Long. Time. Until two, thousand, eight, two, thousand, nine, Carmelo. Anthony's Lakers ERC. Lakers, nuggets they lost to the Lakers again four to two, and here we are Colfax the third trip to the Western Conference finals and it's against the Lakers again magic Johnson stood in their way Kobe Bryant stood in their way and now Lebron James stands in their way how we feel about this one Power to play sports poll question of the day. House this series GonNa end up. I Want I want to hear your thoughts on this one is Lakers. Got It nuggets. Got It. Lakers four nothing for one, four, four, three or nuggets for nothing four, one, four, two, four, three. I got the nuggets in six. I don't think it goes came seventy even though Mike Malone's crazy about games. Evans. I. Don't think it goes there. I think the nuggets I'd clippers are a better team than the Lakers are boy Chris Dempsey, told us as much. Right. He throughout the season he said, no, that's the better team. Tw-. Whole agains the highest percentage of votes twenty four percents pretty spread out. Today twenty four percent again go vote at the whole show dot com twenty, four percent say Lakers win in game seven so it goes seven. But you got the Lakers twenty four percent. Eighteen percent say nuggets win in game seven. Twenty one percent of the whole against thank that the Lakers are going to sweep the nuggets. That is just. That's wrong. It's false. Yet you home I just went up. Wow. Go to the whole show dot com chains this narrative for me please. Let twenty-three percent now tied Lakers in four or Lakers and seven. Those are the two leading tab votes right there Dixon thrown in his text Mike Goodness Dixon. All right I'll read these. Six Brady figure get my six takes in early number one might have been the most fun I've had watching a game ever wasn't that awesome. I mean I. I was not holding my breath Colefax. I was like I don't know. I don't know if it's happening. And then around the like three minute mark. Started to think and Murray hits that ridiculous shot from space. Somehow, it goes in and I thought their done co is done. Paul's done. Doc Rivers is done. And the nuggets found a way. Fixed says, nuggets could have folded their tent so many times and just said, wait till next year. But didn't Joker Murray are unbelievable Murray. Refuses to lose attitude that kind of score you need. Listen this series? gave us everything the last two series give us everything about the nuggets. They're inconsistent at times. Jamal is not always a great star. Nicola Yokich he he might fill the stat sheet, but sometimes, you can see a game where it's like, did he really impact at that? Much? Gary Harris played good defense, but he can't shoot as offensive liability Michael Porter's the reverse of that he can shoot, but he's a defensive liability. Paul millsaps old sometimes he's good. Most of the time he's not. But they overcame all of that and this is why what we're seeing is so rare in the NBA. Now, Joker Murray are stars. They are joker is a super superstar. But. They're still they're not conventional. They're not built like Paul George Leonard they're not built like Lebron. James and Anthony Davis. They're fun group man. This is great for the NBA I. Hope Nationally, I don't know nationally they wanted this they one of the teams. Love. Mike. Malone said, hey, everybody wants this Lakers clippers western conference finals but there's that little teen tiny team town in Colorado called Denver. It has something to say about it how about Doc rivers after the game Saying they lost essentially because well, the nuggets have been together. They've been together. You saw that it was evident. In game five, six and seven. Okay. Then what was the excuse when you're up three to one? Sorry, doesn't Work Kawai Leonard. One year to Toronto One and WANNA title Nick Nurse got it. Nick nurse was able to do it and you had Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. No doesn't work. What's the Lakers excuse going to be when the nuggets win and game six? There together Oh. We wanted out of the bubble. Anyway. That's probably what they're GONNA? Say you know what I don't care. because. This is GONNA be a regular occurrence folks. I asked the question. When the nuggets were down three two one is Mike. Malone the guy that can get this team out of it can get them to go to the next level. Question answered. There's no crime and asking the questions when times are tough, it's what we do. I'm not going to be a cheerleader. I am going to ask tough questions about this team. Can you be inconsistent or consistent? Jamal. Can you be that superstar? The nuggets need in game seven when they needed a score, you provided it guess what the Nuggets answered the question in Game Seven..

"I thought you guys said, the Nuggets Clippers series was over I. Know I did. I said the nuggets we're packing to get on the bubble. What happened Yeah I. Tony this elephant series I mean they seem to be in the clippers heads now and the question is, can they lived there for one more game? A game seven tomorrow night to go to the Western Conference final win expects from the clippers. I mean when you when you were the clippers and you have Leonard and you have Paul George, who were not, they were great. They were barely good yesterday and you've got Yo could shoot shots off one foot with these. I mean it's UNBELIEVA I eat PICCI's throwing off one foot and his all Neta. Cup. Several Times I differs in this I don't know expect expected the game tomorrow night I have no idea who's going to win game seven. I'm going to pick the clippers because I think that they are the better team but as much as I like Doc rivers and as much as you love dot. Smith Guy, he has the only coach in NBA. Whiteside, lose a series where he was already worry one. This could be three You often say that Denver's very young team and you can't expect much of them but they've been together longer than the clippers the clippers this is all on Kuwa- and your boy playoff Pete because they were brought here one games like like this. So you still you're still look I think the clippers can win but Tony at this point I think mistakes that I keep waiting for Denver to make the kill them, they make them and a mistake still don't kill him. "Before the nights in connects played to even get them to this point is on the fourth line with a hints who is not a necessarily bad player either. So bonus know doesn't have a supercharge top line right now he's. Chosen to create. Basically, you know not for necessarily even lines but. You know four lines that are basically all a half step maybe down from each other and it's much different. Than what the Knights of seen throughout the playoffs so far where you know the blackhawks, it was a good top line a pretty good second line. Not so much in the bottom six and I think the disparity was even greater in the next series just in terms of the. Top two lines when they got healthy with Tyler Toffoli in there are really really good lines but the bottom six I believe literally, you know led to one goal in seven games against the nights. So the depth edge has been so so crucial for the Nice. We've seen that with how often Alex talk has been involved in the scoring. Based on how Dallas is lining up I think it's GonNa be a lot harder for the nights to have that kind of obvious edge down there LINEAPP hundred percent. So like one guy that you didn't mention is Dennis on off. Who At least tonight lineup the fourth line to begin with and he was leading score goal score. He was the only guy that hit twenty goals for them. So their fourth lying guy was their leading goal score. You Know How many teams present that issue and if you're going to match up and you're GonNa say oh I want my fourth line out there against. Their fourth line will that means raising carry a and whoever their center is is going again to essentially their leading goalscorer that's major responsibility for them. That's not just going up against you know other guys who are out there to kind of grind where team down in play the way the you know the nights fourth line does that's a major major defensive assignment so it puts. It puts different sort of pressure on you. You know when you go on the ice, your mind is different because you have to be aware that if I turn over the puck this thing. You know it's GonNa end up in the back of the net whereas maybe another fourth line. You know maybe you can get away with it. So you know the the mental I guess You know concentration that you have to have in. That's you know. Talked about that a little bit tonight of you get to this point in your down to the final four in you have to be good in takes. A different level of game. So we'll see it'll be interesting to see kind of the chess match, and if he deboer adjusts is lines to kind of combat that at all or if he just kind of. It says Hey third-line. Hey fourth line. This is your responsibility. You have to be accountable and you have to shut them down in if they can't. You know the maybe that's GonNa be an issue for the nights going forward. Yeah. No I. I definitely agree with you that the chess match could get fascinating because of course, you know while we're talking about how how the stars are deploying their lines might. Make it a little easier for them to gain a depth edge obviously vulnerable because they don't have that necessarily top end line that could maybe match up with the nights when their top six is rolling. But of course, the nights do not have their top six rulings night and that's part of what the stars do so well is that you know they play that really strong defensive game that can frustrate opponents anez actually the last thing I wanNA touch on is the stars did such a good job once they got that lead tonight Shutting things down, they were especially good in the neutral zone. They really made it hard for the nights to you know transition the puck with of any sort they were so physical kind of muck things up as well. But we've seen all throughout the postseason. The SARS can win shoot outs. That's something they didn't necessarily show in the regular season, but that's how they were able to be such a high powered offense of team in Colorado is outscored them a lot of the times in the game seven they won, which is I mentioned. Curie Givi Rhonda scored a hat trick in a five four game in overtime. So this stars team much like the night's. have shown us as post-season can win in different ways ending that's another kind of thing that shows us. That The Dallas team is just on a different level than what the night's have experienced before is because they can kind of adjust their game and still find a way to win and it'll be interesting to see. How they decide to end up attacking the nights because I thought today Dallas started out pushing the temple allot and then as the game progressed and the clock gut kind of you know lower and lower, they shifted back in a regular season mode and were able to kind of really assert themselves in protect the lead. Yeah. I would agree with that. It's GonNa be interesting like he pointed out to see how they attack this series on what they WanNa do I wonder how much of their I guess offense the output and breakout an explosion was Colorado's goaltending I don't know and I. The one thing I'll say is that Just fact however, the nights put a net is going to be better than Michael Hutchinson and probably better than Pavel Fransuz was playing adopt point in the series before he got hurt to be quite honest. So maybe that's adjustment that the stars just make right off the bat they figure look or they're gonNA face better goaltending from the nights they themselves are GonNa have to play the tighter style close to the vest style, and maybe that means it's a cagey series maybe a dozen. That gets wide open all that being said. I think at this point, what the nights needs to do is figure out a way to score because right now it's just not happening I mean Mark Stone Way. In Carlson, have one goal each in the past seven games Riley Smith Jonathan March. So Zilch in the past seven games patch readies nothing in the past four. So they're the the night's top six, they need to find a way to put the puck in the back of the net. You know I guess break the seal whatever you WanNa say and figure out a way to kind of let get contagious throughout the lineup. 'cause right now you know it's kind of working the other way and I think you know the sticks started to get grip tight you start to think a little bit i. mean a patron even made a comment kind of before. Game One about how they thought it points in that series against Vancouver was going to be impossible and. They didn't think they're gonNA score and all these sorts of things. So you know it was in their head. And and right now, the longer this goes the more we ask them questions and they have to hear it start talking about it amongst themselves. You know then it becomes an issue I think until those guys those guys figure out a way to break through. You know. Then we're going to be talking about you know maybe a short series for the nights I don't know. Yeah I. Guess we'll see how the night's offense is able to bounce back in game two of the series that will be at five pm Tuesday on NBC sports. Net or for those of you that want to watch on TV you can also listen on Fox sports.

"Speaking goaltender that's where I wanNA go next Dave. So Leonard. Started back to back in game six and seven than it's played their last two games that connects series on consecutive days in winter started them both he got the shutout in game seven and then bore went back to Marc Andre Fleury for the first time in about a week tonight in a game one. Credit to the board I think this is definitely not the way. A lot of fans saw this goaltending situation play out. It's not even how I necessarily thought. He would use his goal tender's but despite the fact that the knights lost tonight a, the goaltending tandem has been really really effective like I said Leonard got that on game seven and Mark conjul flurry gave up a goal on the first shot. He sought tonight in Game One. But then he made a twenty four straight saves and Defenseman H had a lot of praised for flurries tonight before we discuss kind of the Golden Knights let's listen in to nature. I think it took us a while ago we didn't come into to play from the start of the game. For the first thirty, five minutes of the game we were back on our toes and they were all of us in the work place be made for us as we weren't. There supporting each other and getting our feet moving. In. The last twenty minutes we we started to play a little bit better because he started to get our our D. moving. Finally, we started getting close to each other to make some place in. That game is much more to reach if it's not flower for stupid we didn't play well in. In that game hours the one nothing that. So there's Schmidt with a lot of praise for Hitler, goaltenders Mark. Audrey flurry now, there are no backs backs in the western conference. Final lender. Now will have a four days of rest before game two if he gets the nod their So Dave. What are your thoughts? How goaltending situation sets up? Now, how divorce has handled it to this point and I? We talked about last podcast that we thought you know flurry might not get a game in the rest of this postseason will now the fact that he's basically played really well, his last three starts taking out his first postseason start against the Saint Louis Blues. Is there. Any chance that the door is open for him to still keep getting games here I. think potentially. I mean it's hard to say in. Part of this is because he? I'm with you and obviously I was on record like I said I. Didn't think we would see Marc. Andre Fleury, play another game in its uniform after that game I didn't see it because I kind of foresaw. Schedule, or a situation like this where there weren't back to backs and Robin Lehner you know is a big strong guy and you figure he's a workhorse and every other game is is not anything that's out of the question for a goaltender and then you know I think about it more and more today in than it makes total sense to be able to start Marc Andre Fleury in game one robin. Leonard Played Three Games in four days and yeah, he had an extra day of. Arrests in there between you know what would have been gained one but that's the luxury you have. You're not going to you know I mean if you're Dallas, just say this isn't going to jake hottinger or something like that because you know who opened needs a break in, you're just going to say, okay, we'll. We'll just you know kind of roll the dice on game one in whatever happens you know maybe we get it maybe we. Will figure it out there. You're you're throwing Marc Andre Fleury out there. So that's luxury pizza bores talked about this whole time. You know what? I mean. I. Don't WanNa like be the sarcastic smart Aleck here but. He's kept to his word like he's said, we're GONNA need them both and we're gonNA use them both, and maybe he hasn't used them the way he did in the regular season or their alternating, but he's looked at this and. And utilize depth. He said that with the forwards and defensemen and whatever he's looked at the goaltending in the same way that these guys need a break in need arrest in, we can't just get like a normal playoff and for him to. Get a performance like he got out of Marc Andre Fleury, like you said, it would if they scored tools, they scored a goal, they even any sort of run support. You know pizza looks like a genius again. So I guess tip your hat going forward. I would expect to see Robin Lehner in the in the crease though unless something happens unless he struggles unless you feel like we need. A A spark if they're behind in the series or something like that because right now at least you know if you've got flurry in your back pocket that he's playing while you're not just going guy who's cold and you don't know what you're getting he's actually playing well so it gives them another option. More options a better I guess, right? No.

"Now. They were exactly what we expected to be. A. One or two in the lead in all the defensive analytics year. And? Play. Hard every gang and they make you work career offense and if you're not willing to. To. Work. For offense and support offensively than. You know they're not going to hand it to you acting that was. The case tonight. So there are some of devore's initial thoughts after game one of the series, which of course represents the final four in the NHL. So you now to kind of tie in the end of the Vancouver series here. Day of the nights have been shut out in two of their last three games two of their goals in game seven, they scored empty-netter. So in the last three games, they have one goal against a goaltender and it was by defense. Menteith Theodore, who of course is advancement that has been really really good. But you would think a lot of the nights highly paid forwards would be able to step up as well. So how much I guess he'll blame for lack of better word to put the knights lack of offensive production on them not finding ways to get more pucks in it versus you know how l. either defensively are just straight up how goaltenders are playing against them right now. Well. So, tonight I feel like he's a little bit of an aberration I feel like I wanna give them a pass on the down the game seven, just the emotions and not being able to get up for it in in the turn it on in the third period, it was similar to what they tried to do or what they're able to do. Excuse me against Dallas in the round robin and kind of win third period this time they couldn't crack. Khudobin. So I mean if they're gonNA stick to that formula going forward I don't think that's GonNa work. But I do think there was some some moments where it felt like it was a little bit of potluck where like you know they got some bounces and there was some loose pox, some rebounds and they they just weren't able to get it but it also feels like at times I don't know how much of this is maybe the ice surface but that they're just not kind of creating off the rush on they're not creating. These really good chances they're not forcing outstanding says I can think of one or to the DEM Komai but I can't really think of any tonight where they had an odd man rush and you get a pass across the ice enforce the goalie to come across his crease or you know you create a good chance you know from a pass on the net for you know you know shot from the slaughter even more. So just something on the powerplay. Powerfully was huge tonight I mean they got chances in the ruined them within like thirty seconds on two of them, and then they had a power play to start the third period in fresh ice just. Basically. Stepped on their leg. Trying to be nice I can't use it to phrase that I really WANNA use. You know but those are little areas where if you're trying to generate offense, you know you score power play goal or two and all of a sudden you know it looks a lot better on the scoresheet at the end. So I do think you know part of it is on them and I do think part of it is on teams playing well. Defensively, I thought Vancouver especially, you know kind of quietly did a great job guarding the packing it in, and they seem to get every loose puck every rebound in front of the net nights or laying down on the ice bowling pins that had been knocked over seemingly every time you know after dem co at me that I saved. So some of that's The onus on them to get to those loose pucks in score that way. Get deflections, and in score the way the teams are scoring against them in not try to you know necessarily skate the puck into the net every time. Yeah. Interesting by the end of that Vancouver series of the connects were literally just packing around the pain as you said, and I don't mean than just kind of dropped an extra guy or to there I mean there were times where literally all five skaters were right around the pain trying to tie up sticks, grab loose pucks and just kind of concede the fact that we're not gonNA try real hard to. Generate, a bunch the other way we're just GONNA limit. You hope you get frustrated help. You make mistake in kind of count on our top end skill guys two pounds on a turnover if when it comes. That formula. As. We already touched on almost worked a except Robin. Leonard made ages absolutely fantastic. Save on Blockbuster. Otherwise we could be doing kind of night season autopsy right now rather than talking about you know the Western Conference final.

"Stars on Sunday were according this about two hours ish after the game has ended. So or kind of come into guys with are pretty raw thoughts and kind of analysis from this game. I think the big takeaway from this game for me day the May we start on before jumping into kind of some of those other topics we we talked about or touched on already is I think it's fair to say this is the first time since the postseason proper. So Post Round Robin got started the nights for really truly thoroughly outplayed to me. I think for the most part they lost just once the blackhawks that was because Corey Crawford. Kinda, played out of his mind tunas. This had to their three loss of the conducts that we kind of just briefly touched on their came down to Thatcher Denko just being outstanding standing on his head. They did make a lot of defensive mistakes in game two against Vancouver and somebody could bring back game as an example as one the nights maybe you got outplayed in but even still, I feel like this game fell different and I don't mean different is in like Oh man the. Have an opponent today you can't handle necessarily because I. Think we even saw Vancouver series. The nights blew out that connects in game one and Vancouver came storming right back to force game. So, it's not like the nights I think are in deep trouble already here but I think it does feel like this is the first time that they're punching against someone that is for sure in their same way class. Do you get that same feeling? Yeah. For sure I mean we think I mean okay. Let's take out the round robin I mean. We'll. We'll actually no because I think. You know the the first period Colorado I thought they were pretty well played. I would agree with you though and I think part of that's because Dallas teaming than Chicago in a better team than Vancouver I, mean you look at the record from the regular season you look at the stats in terms of Dallas being team that was second in the league in goals against per game a deeper they're stronger better. They've got an elite defencemen. In they've got a lineup that especially with what they throughout tonight in game one I thought it was interesting the way that Rick bowness kind of spread his guys out and and really kind of rolled his four lines in presented. A problem on every line for the nights in terms of somebody that could score It's a different kind of matchup. It's it's a different kind of top six that you're seeing. It's guys Sagan and and PA-. Ski Guys Go to the net as opposed to kind of pure I guess skill element you know like a Patterson Things that not to say that Sagan's not you know mentally talented that Jamie Benzon immensely talented they're just different players. They're bigger stronger physical heavy style that. Has. been sort of the topic of conversation going into the series. So yeah all those things factor into it in in pizza bar. said it tonight after the game it's GonNa be a different series. This is not. Teams that kind of a running gun in. As. Much as Dallas has relied, may be on offense a little bit in the season more than doing the regular season. I think a lot of ads just a successful power play in they're still they still are who they are I guess and they showed that tonight and that's GonNa be tough. Not to go too far back but you know all the things that we talked about. You know when the nights potentially could played Arizona, you know all the threat that Arizona presented as. A team that's really good defensively in you're getting into. Nothing. Long zero zero type stretches of games that's dangerous in Dallas is even better at it than Arizona. So it's absolutely going to be a threat. They're absolutely the best team that they've played so far in and you figure that's going to be reflected over the next handful of games. Lets you mentioned you know Pete to bore and some of his thoughts post game winless actually hear from the Golden Knights coach right.

"Because it was only the second game seven in golden history. Fans, probably don't need to be reminded how the first one went against the stain Jose Sharks last postseason, the game that, of course, the controversial major penalty call on cody eakin that the NHL basically later had to apologize to the knights of the led to the sharks coming back from a three zero deficit to win five four in overtime in the Golden Knights season. But what were some of your kind of key takeaways from? Hal at Second Round series from the connects you actually wrapped up because I don't think either of us were expecting. That's necessarily go seven games we last talked in certainly I wasn't expecting it to be tidied in a game seven for basically fifty four men Let me. Let me actually start on the other side because I think it's fascinating if you're Vancouver canucks San Right now because you basically had a rookie backup goaltender who is highly thought of in was a high draft pick clay out of his mind for three games and it might completely change direction about franchise in in determining whether Jacob marks from comes back mean I think you may have price himself out anyway in terms of what he wanted versus what the connected budgeted, but just the emergence of Thatcher Denko I mean he's GonNa end up depending on what happens with his career he's GonNa be like his colt hero in Vancouver now. Twenty twenty five years from now people are going to talk about the Thatcher Co series and things, and we'll see what he turns into. But I that that's really what the story was in in the nights. All sudden getting frustrated and crippen the steak and not being able to you know solve the kid who was playing really well five. You know maybe different from what they felt like I don't know but I felt like he gained five. There were a lot of shots that were in his chest and they were making it easy on not I. Don't I don't know so much about the traffic and things like that. I think that's an easy excuse for the coach to fall back on after a game when you throw a bunch of shots on a guy. And you don't score all. We need to get more traffic. I think a lot of those shots were just from the perimeter easy stops you know and and when they were tough shots, high danger areas, great chances those were the shots at the night seems to be either one missing the net or to putting it right into dem crest in so I don't think. They were doing themselves. Any favors in you know in a series that starts to grow in the psychological impact impact starts to take hold in you know credit to the nights that they fought through it and it was zero zero Game Robin. Lehner makes the save of the series Probably you know a save that will be talking about depending on what happens here. Going forward for you know potentially a whole lot of years I mean that was a was a major point in that game to keep zero zero and they found a way and that's what good teams do when maybe you're not playing you're best you still find a way Alec our Tina's mentioned that and I've seen that not sports. We've we've talked about that before you know maybe that's the the best sign I guess you could save for the nights going forward is that they've found a way They need to figure out how to score some goals because right now audits astrid up. The Aso. We can talk about that moving forward here because then we can move onto. Game One of the Western Conference final because I want to you know put the offense of struggles that we saw down the stretch and the main hoover series for the goaltending that you brought up with Robin. Leonard is just spectacular robbery. Brock Besser into the game one discussion been as well. So. One. The nights are now Owen to in game one of the Western Conference final in their history because they lost one nothing to the. Dallas.

"Game one tonight online checkout, and of course, we will have multiple stories up every single day basically until the nights postseason run ends also reminder to rave reviews subscribe. Whatever you podcast, we do to this one We hope you guys like what we do and we have some hopefully exciting news for you guys about what we're GonNa try to do the rest of the post season as well. What we're actually trying to do is we're GONNA try to do these podcast after every game from now on we'll probably keep a little bit shorter. We're going GONNA try to recap a these games really quickly guys because obviously these are the most important games of the Golden Knights season and whether they play three more games or thirteen, we WANNA make sure that we give you guys some pretty quick analysis on all of them. So you know make sure. You're checking your podcast feed every night after the Golden Knights wrap up because hopefully by the time we're done of the editing and turning our stories you guys will have fresh audio content to listen to So we're going to spend a lot of the time on this episode recapping Game One of that star series and kind of breaking down the stars to since we haven't had time to do kind of a preview podcast for you guys. But I WANNA wrap up the Vancouver series a day. The last time we chatted on this podcast basically neither said, we were that worried after the Golden Knights last game five and it's hers out there actually was a reason to be worried and. was. Fatter Denko the connects rookie goaltender was just incredible down the stretch. He made ninety eight consecutive saved. One point he shut out the night's game six he shut them out Romo's fifty, four minutes in a really tight really tense game seven. The Dominated on the shot clock in shot attempts scoring chances in basically anything. That can be tracked in a hockey game. The Knights had a commanding lead in except the scoreboard. For most of those last two games We're GONNA talk about a lot of storylines that emerge from game six in game seven because they can relate to what we saw in game. One of the Western, conference. final. Against The Dallas Stars. But first day of I. WanNa Start With this House surprised impressed whatever you WANNA put on. It were you that the unites had a match penalty in game seven against economics and actually killed it off we'll all say this they go on to win the Stanley Cup. That will be the most twenty twenty. You know laughing your face hockey gods moment of So fitting, you know of all things if EP used the term, each team hazards adversity if that's the university in the Hump that they had to get over once it was presented. To them and they go on to win this thing. I. Wouldn't it? So fitting wouldn't it be? It would be absolutely in incredibly a fitting I mean overall Wool was like from your vantage point watching. "On the Western Conference finals. But want to welcome in ESPN MB analyst him Legler, who joins us here inside our Grainger studios likes is going to be with this a lot throughout this hour. I saw you last night. Tim on the Eastern Conference finals after game lead really breaking down brook. Lopez was able to do in Milwaukee, that question is, what are the raptors due to counter that well, I guess, okay so couple of options here. One is you, you know, make Janas be a little bit more aggressive in trying to beat you as a score, which means some of those possessions rather than drift into the lane. If you're Marcus salary, Baca when he was guarding them. You stay a little bit more firmly planted at the three point line. So you can get back to him, and see if Janas could beat you early enough, you start cutting you and he's at the rim and he's getting in foul trouble. And you have to send that guy option two is rotate a wing or a guard to Lopez because you're asking Marcus saw the impossible for. A guy that big to pursue the ball into the lane and then get out to not just if he point line. You're trying to get out twenty seven twenty eight feet. We're Lopez lines up. So you, you're just asking something that's not gonna happen. And those are going to be clean looks and Lopez. A good enough shooter. He's going to continue to hurt you. What's the difference between gazelle guarding Embiid because a lot of the numbers and last series were Ingersoll favor against guarding? Joel two this time guarding Lopez. Here's the difference. The thought process with Joel Embiid. Is every single time he raises up to shoot a three there's a collective groan in the building and amongst his teammates? So it plants the seat of doubt and Marcus knows he's not going to beat me from out there. So when you when you would help on a Simmons or a Butler, and you would close out on a bead you could stop at fifteen feet because he's gonna come back to you. This is a different story. Brooke Lopez's looking for one thing, he's looking to unload that three so you the grounds you have to cover to get out there and actually give it contest. And I did a touchscreen this morning on it. The three or four those, it looks like it's a contest, but it's not there's five feet of space by the time he releases the ball for a good shooter. That's in rhythm. That's hot. That's very easy shot. So this is a little bit of a different situation for Nick nurse. Boxer up one game to none. How scary is it for Toronto? And you reference Janas that Yoenis was kind of quiet last night. Yeah, you don't want any still had a pretty good stat line. I think what's scarier for the raptors. Is that the Milwaukee Bucks? Ms thirty three three point shots. And I'd say fifteen of those were really open looks, they're not gonna shoot that poorly. Again, that's more of a concern if I'm Nick nurse than the fact that we lost, despite the fact that you had twenty four fourteen that's still pretty good night. ESPN MBA LS, Tim leg will stick around. You're going to have more throughout this entire conference finals tonight here in NBA countdown. "Team. And you know. Lillard? Also, let's not forget Lillard is there's he's the only other player in the league outside of Steph curry who were teen Lee hits thirty footers. He obviously hit thirty seven footer to win the to seal the first round, I'm going to enjoy just watching thirty footer after thirty footer that'd be fun. I it's amazing. When you stand behind the three point arc at the top of the key. You realize that you got a launch that thing. And now this is another five eight sometimes ten feet behind that. And it looks effortless for both curry and Damian Lillard, and I think we saw that throughout the Portland Denver series that when they would play that too man game. It was really hard for Yokich to get out far enough on Lillard because he'll pull up from from thirty routinely. So that'll be really interesting to watch in the warriors series two is is what big guy is going to be involved in that too man action. And can they get out far enough to him? Yeah. And you know that the warriors are going to try to exploit in his cantor who. Who is historically bad defensively? And you know that they're going to try to get him and a bunch of switch situations and try to ISO him. I'm sure Portland is gonna game plan against that. But that'll be something interesting to watch. And then you you alluded earlier to Seth curry seven set a really nice year. I think he finished like third league in three point percentage. You know, it which is he provides Portland's of they've really needed the last couple years, which is shooter off the bench. That's that's something. They've they've struggled in as they haven't had shooters space the floor other than Lillard McCollum, and he provides that, and it'd be cool to see, you know, them going at it on the plastic. I don't think they've ever faced each other in the playoffs. Sess only been a rotation guy a league for like three years now. So it'll be interesting, and I think we all think of Seth curry as a shoe. Shooter. And that's that's what he is. But he's not bad defensively. And he's really smart player at the end of the game. One of the hardest things in the world is to intentionally foul at the end of the game. Right. You're up by three years Falome. It's one of the hardest thing. So sometimes coaches won't even do it. But they put Seth Korean specifically to do that today. He fails Neil coach and does a great job. And so I think it's interesting to see what they do with him, and you mentioned in his cancer because you're exactly right. The warriors have to go at him. Any team would go at him. But Portland's interesting that they have so many defenders around when you think of heartless and amino Evan Turner that they find ways to kinda help him out. I wasn't sure he was going to be able to play in the Denver series. But he actually looked okay. Because there was always somebody that help he he wants he looked solid. Honestly, I mean, maybe that's an overstatement, but he looked not horrible. And what a what an ice addition. That has been one thing. I've been impressed by with the blazers is that a couple of really key roster moves additions during the season that have gotten. Them to this point Kanner off the off the trashy was was waived by the Knicks, and I don't think a lot of people thought much of that pickup. But with in the wake of the nurture injury that has been huge. They just needed someone who could score in the low post who could grab rebounds who could provide that physicality, and he's he's stepped in admirably, especially offensively. And then Rodney hood, Rodney hood who wears fans. Remember from all the talk about him not playing in the NBA finals last June. He was picked up midseason by the blazers in has has provided them. Nice scoring punch off the bench had a couple of really big games in the conference finals hitting really big shots late in games. And you know, the warriors the blazers need that. Because for a while. It's just felt like it's the Lillard McCollum show. And they just haven't had anyone else that you have to game. In for. And I'm not saying riding hood is an all star caliber player, but he's someone who can hit shots in big moments and can take some of the pressure off of McCall. It's interesting because we start out the conversation by saying this will be a five game series. Maybe six but Portland as we talked about it has some pieces, right? They have to stars. And they have some pieces. They have a guy like hood who can care your offense for a quarter easily. Right. There's been times as your with the warriors was they had somebody like that off the bench, and they have some defensive players who can switch and guard multiple positions. So there are some pieces there all of these conversations end up with the warriors have five all stars by future all favors, so so forth. But but Portland has some pieces it'll it'll be an interesting series. I mean, you have to be pretty good to make the carts rouse. I mean, that's just the reality. The situation they they're in the car is finals. So they're hope hopefully, they have some pieces and Denver's guitar and they beat Denver. I think in yoga just playing. MVP level. And that was that was a impressive win by the blazers that in Denver and Denver. I think the odds the statistical odds of them winning the series. When I went down three two was was like eighty percent against them. Twenty percent chance of winning. So they beat the odds and one thing it'll be interesting to watch in game. One is how deep Steve Kerr digs into the digs into the bench again because the bench was awful until in the in the conference semi-finals until game six and count about sesame. Steve some guys play Quinn. Cooked meaningful minutes, just Repco Shaun Livingston Colonia, obviously, and and Jordan bell who I honestly told people before the game. I did not think he was gonna plan amend the place. And then I look like an idiot because he has his best game in a very long time in game six. Largely because he had to because Draymond green was fouled. Treble mom was foul. Trouble. And obviously drafts out cousins is out Damian John's out so they just needed bodies. And you know, it'll be interesting to see if those that was just kind of an aberration. Or if those guys can make a real impact going forward because I think like we said, they're they're going to be Portland, but for them to be a Milwaukee or Toronto, I think they need ro- contributions from the bench from the from those guys, I think of honest proven that he can do that. But they need, you know, they need the occasional night from John Livingston who was kind of a non factor until game six they need those types of contribution. Now when you first talking about the bench, I thought well, none of it matters until we know for sure when Durant cousins gonna come back right because that eats up so many minutes, but as you kept going I started. Agreeing with you that they need to be thinking about the next series. And they're gonna need something from those guys at some point. So why not start the manning it from now, you know, even if you have Durant back by game two in cousins back by game. Three maybe you continue to play those guys in six eight minutes stretches and try to build some confidence in them and vice versa. So that coach Kerr has confidence in them knows what to expect from them knows if he can play them also just kinda ease the workload of the star guys. 'cause you know, the Durant's of the world the Seth Kerr's the world they've played forty plus minutes night throughout the play offs. And that takes toll especially when you have instead of two-three nights between games you have one night between a game. And you know, obviously Durant coming back from an injury. You need you want those guys be fresh come NBA finals. And so it's going to be key just to just in terms of just in terms of preservation. Shen of for those guys. It's going to be interesting. I'm personally just happy that I get to go home sees the family little bit catch up with some old buddies got a bunch of tax after Portland one say, hey when you get down. So that's always great. But I'm also excited because like we said there's a bunch of good storylines. I think we'll have a bunch of good content on chronicle dot com. I can I tell you. We're going to have some good features in the works here. So stay locked and loaded there and rusty will be joining me. I don't think in Portland, but he will be joining us at all the home games and continuing to provide great coverage. So I really appreciate if you don't invite me to Portland for the games on at least gonna go and deliver flowers to your mother in person says you try to do it with one eight hundred. Yeah. And I actually found out I had earlier when I said the flowers are in front of my mom, it's actually not coming till tomorrow. So they they I called my mom. I was like mom, I guess coming tomorrow. Oh, sorry. The no. So I think you converted me to pro flowers. Anyone listen to this? If you worked for plo- pro flowers were open to you know, sponsorship. Let's let's make that.

"His best quarter ever. I don't know there were so many in the two thousand thirteen playoffs against Denver where George Karl was doing everything that he possibly could to get the ball out of Curry's hands and still he was it felt like scoring thirty points every third quarter. That was when he was having those crazy third quarters. I think of the I'm back game where he goes crazy and overtime at Portland. Right. I mean there there some huge ones. And it's kind of what you come to expect. Like, I remember we're having this conversation in the office on slack going back and forth when courage shut out in the first half. And I go, well, we're gonna write that story or the Steph curry goes nuts in the second half. Because you know, it's about to happen. I don't think any was predicted thirty three in the second half and twenty three in the fourth quarter. But you knew it was coming. Yeah. The one of the games earlier in the series were on Craig check was doing a sidebar in the game. He came up to a half time because Steph had bad for south, and he said Shantou aside barn Steph. And my thing was well, I don't feel comfortable pointing unit direction because I'm. I'm not either he's eight it's very possible. He's going to go off and second half. And that either becomes the game story or that becomes a really hard deadline right for you. Because the entire angle of your sidebar has changed on its head which is not easy to do. Especially with a sidebar where you have to have a lot more context and stuff like that than a game story where you have a lot of actual details from the game. So yeah, no. It was a lot of people have called it. His best performance ever. I think you can make that argument obviously is a career high in the fourth quarter for him. I think career at any quarter will people may not realize is the most important player to the warriors. But he's not as combustibles Thompson. Right. Klay. Thompson is known for the big quarter. Steph has had some good quarters here and there, but he's not. You know, if he scores forty in a game. It's usually, you know, around ten each quarter, or you know, one fifteen seventeen point quarter. He's not like Klay where he's going off for thirty points to quarterbacks right at. Yeah. And Klay even talks about that all the time that one of the few things that he thinks he's better than Steph. Curry is what he calls his spurt ability. And I think we've seen that from a lot. Now, I would say for the people who are arguing that was Curry's best game. When you put into context, he's got a broken finger. He's playing without located is located figure playing without Kevin Durant whose dominated the playoffs. And the fact that like you mentioned we've just watched the Western Conference finals, it just wasn't called that. So he's playing a big game against the second best team in a league. I you put all that into it. I can understand why there is an argument that it was his best game. One of the one of the crazy things that happen after that game. You know, we're all writing on deadline and everything and then Mark Stein comes out. Out reports that the market's cousins is on track to come back in the conference finals. I was able to confirm that the person I talked to said that he could come back, you know, probably not at the beginning of the series. But he could come back for the first road trip potentially to Portland. I guess in this case so game three which is way ahead of the time. I thought and I think surprises a lot of people. But in a lot of ways, it feels ideal for the warriors because you have the words and says it unique situation that they kind of know they're gonna make them be final special that they've survived Houston. So you can have you can treat the conference finals as a warm up and and kinda ease him into rotation minutes. And then hopefully by the NBA finals, he's playing a normal workload, which whoever they faced in the conference finals is gonna have, you know, legit big. Man, whether or not it's brook Lopez or Marcus or Joel Embiid, it's going to be huge asset. I think having cousins back. Absolutely. And I would love to be in the conversation where the warriors who love to be super cautious with injuries are telling DeMarcus cousins, let's hold off with wait for the NBA finals verse DeMarcus cousins who's been says the league for ten years and played one playoff game in four minutes. I you know, I wanna play right now. And you're probably right that the way to do it is to give him a lesser role at some point during the conference finals and kind of build him up for for the finals. But but that's going to be some interesting back and forth between the team and DeMarcus. Yeah, it also be interesting to see when Durant comes back. We know he's he's probably gonna come back in the conference finals as well. As he come back for game one. I think he conceivably could it's considered a mild calf strain. He's had mild Castro in the past where he's only missed a week. So. I think it's beyond. Plaza building that he could be back for game one. But I would guess they're cautious neighboring back, you know, maybe closer to game to game three range. The reality is everything. As is often. The case seems to be trending in the warriors favor. They got they survived a great Houston team on the road without DeMarcus and Durant. And now, they're place. They're going to play an fear Portland team and get all those guys back when it really matters. Because if in win the warriors make the NBA finals, they're going to be really tested. I think Milwaukee's legit. I think Toronto's legit. I think Philly's legit. I really I really like walkie. I think yeah, I've been really high on Toronto all season thinking Toronto was going to make them be a finals the way Milwaukee's playing right now the way the played in that Boston series. They could really, you know, if they make the finals, they could make it really the worst trouble. I hesitate to say that I think Toronto's the best team in the east because they're playing right now might not even has passed this round. But to me that that's the team that stood out to me all year. And you're right. I mean, Milwaukee's talented, and what coach bud is doing there with that group is is fun to watch. If I'm a warriors fan to me. I still don't wanna see Toronto that that seems to be the team to me. That's the most well rounded, I think they caused the most challenges for the warriors. But either way goes, even if it's Philly, I believe that the warriors will have a challenge that the NBA finals. We'll be fun. Definitely for sure. And the as reporters, right? The only thing we root for is not teams, but storylines, and even though I don't think this is going to be a super competitive series. I do feel like there's gonna be some fun stuff to write. What are what are some of the storylines tracking in this conference finals? Yeah, this is the this is the easiest one I ever as far as storylines, right? We continue. The curry family reunion, obviously gets to play against his brother. Andrea dahlan. Evan Turner or best friends that we're in each other's weddings, would be fun too fun to watch them go at it. Why why is that they were in Philly together right at the beginning and stayed really closed about really cerebral players. You know, the way Evan Turner plays very similar to a dollar that he's a point guard who doesn't wanna shoot and great defensive player versus in each other's way. Yeah. Yeah. Has friends that's the one. That's just kidding. I'm just kidding. So that's that's what makes it interesting. Right. And and this is also I think there've been some really fun matchups over the years between the warriors and Portland. I'm not sure that the warriors loves that Colin. So there's there's some fun story is there that you can play with and then obviously Lillard with you know, Oakland made of it's been well chronicled what he means to Oakland. But Okla means to him grew up. Just a stone's throw away from work arena in the. Going to the something village. Brooke? I believe I smoke Linders are gonna give out of me for not remembering the his neighborhood, but the neighborhood right next east Oakland right next to or Corinna thing scores forty in the first game. I'm going to say it was your fault for not remember in his neighborhood. Yeah. No. And the sad thing is I used to live in east Oakland sized really know that. But he he he's been so great. He didn't have phenomenal conference final series. But obviously that shot he hit for them to make the there's conference of that shoddy hit the into the first round. He's he's he's just a true leader. And I grew up in Portland. I albeit I'll be completely candid on the podcast. I grew up a blazers fan had season tickets the blazers I am not a blizzard fan anymore. I do not offend any team than being this is my job. But I do have understanding polls on what that team means that city and specifically. Dame, Lillard means that city Portland's a place where when I was twelve years old. I remember talking my friends about you know, we all knew like the blazers that lived in Portland year round. You know, we we cared about it on that level. And and when they're when a player live there year round and actually embrace the city as home the fan base cared a lot about that. And and track that and Dame has done that. And I think the fact that Portland as overachieved the basketball years. Yes, they got swept in the first round last year. But the fact that they were even they were three or they're forced it. There are three see last year that team was that good and they were three seat. And I on this team is I don't want to say, they're not that good. But they're not as loaded as a typical conference finals team. And I think the reason they've got your dotting here is largely just not not just his play. But. His leadership. He he just has such a great way of getting the best out of his teammates. And you got to respect that. No. I think you're exactly right. And they're backward. Reminds me a little bit of the warriors. And they seem to have this complementary elements who owned that Lillard had a terrible first quarter today and CJ McCollum automatically starts picking up his game. And you see that allow with the warriors very rare that Steph curry anklets awesome. Both have a bad game in the same game. So and Portland like you're talking about that. They're the only sport in town in Portland, right? When guys stay there means something to the community. And I think the warriors have a little bit of that element to that. There's Oakland teams in San Francisco teams, and Oakland the warriors are the one that kind of brings the bay together around around one thing. So I think there's a lot of a lot of build up from fans on both sides of this. And and also we can always do the Jim Barnett story rips it. Yeah. I actually just had a media dinner the night in Houston with. With Jim Burnett. He was talking about you know, how he was an original trailblazer. I don't know how familiar fans are. But basically, he he was he was he's the reason Rupe city is called rip city because he hit a shot and the the play by play announcer. Bill, Sean Lee at the time for the blazers yell rip city, it just kinda stuck. And so if anyone wonders why they're called rip city, they can they can think Jim Barnett. And you know, so in Portland is obviously I'm from Portland's on my below bias. But Portland is just a great MBA city. And I think they're going to be really happy just to be there. I mean, I don't think anyone Portland expects blazers to be warriors. But they're just except for the who has openly said that he would not be honest team.

"Welcome to the sixty third episode of warriors off the San Francisco Chronicle's NBA podcast. I'm your house warriors beat writer, Connie Laterna and a damn joined by sports writer, rusty Simmons. Shortly after Portland beat Denver in game seven of the Western Conference semi-final Sunday rest. Unite sat down to recap the warriors series clinching win over the rockets and game six preview the conference finals and discussed the possibility of Kevin Durant and the markets cousins both playing against the blazers at some point. We'll have our conversation right after the break. Hi, I'm Susan lesser Oakland A's beat writer for the chronicle. And I'd love it. If you've listened to my podcast as plus attack. The players coaches executives and others around the team every week. You'll get on field analysis and off the field insight. Do you know, which as players twenty pounds on a diet of donuts? You would if you've been listening to as plus join me every week wherever you get your podcast as plus. Around four pm Sunday, rusty Simmons, and I chatted at my apartment in Alameda. Resi thanks for joining me on mother's day. All the other dutiful sons out there hanging out with their moms. But our moms do not live in state. So we are here at my apartment on a Sunday afternoon talking worse, we both did our duty as sons we sent flowers I'm running out of options. And so this year, my mother got a thing that looks kind of like an elephant with a flower coming out of it. And you're you're pro flowers guy, grow flowers. That's the way to go. Yeah. Maybe we can get some sponsorship on this. That'd be great. I'm one eight hundred flowers guy. I can switch. Yeah. I mean, I it's just what I know. You know, they have delivered to the wrong place multiple times. Pro flowers. That's the good side. Yeah. Yeah. But you know, we did our jobs. Our moms have flowers at their door. My sister, who's a mom also has flowers at her door. So I feel like I'm not a horrible person. The more more pressingly. The warriors are playing the Portland trailblazers in the conference finals and Portland. Just got by Denver in Denver in game seven of that series. Great game. I I know you watched the whole thing I had some issues with my Uber side, not watch thing. But I listed on the radio and pleasures came back from down seventeen in the first half gray game from CJ McCollum. I guess the first question just is Portland chance. I mean, they have a chance to win a game. I think we've all seen Lillard come into Oakland at times and kind of take over game. And I wouldn't be surprised at all. If he has one of those games but four or five game series is about what I'm guessing. Yeah. I I agree with that thing five games, maybe six, and if it goes six, I would think it's just a it's kinda like the clippers series where the warriors just land Egger too because they're not taking Portland. Seriously. The reality is we just witnessed the conference finals it just happened to be called the conference semifinals. I think Houston is in a different league in Portland. And I don't mean to belittle Portland. I think what they've accomplished this year is very impressive. They have one of the best backwards in the league. I think I think Dame Lillard is a top ten player in the league. But they have Nurkic injured. They they don't have ton of depth. I just don't I don't see this has to be one of the most lopsided conference finals matchups. Probably be history. I was just trying to think about that on the way over here thought. Now now with the warriors, you gotta figure out what's available to Kevin Durant was availability of DeMarcus cousins, and then I thought to myself, no actually doesn't really matter like. You talk about Portland's fantastic backward. But I would assume you would take Steph curry over Dame Lillard assume you would take Klay Thompson oversee J McCollum so with or without two of their five all-star hall of fame starters. The warriors are still heavily favored in the series. I would think so let's go back a little bit because we haven't had a podcast since game six of the conference semifinals and a lot has happened. That that game six was one of the crazier games. I think I've ever covered Steph scoreless in the first half goes off for thirty three points in the second half. Twenty three of the war of the warriors final thirty three points. You've followed death lot longer than I have was that his

"He's the pony express. Here's Andrew Phillip pony. Loxton Celtics are underway. Golden State in Houston later on. And I've confessed I'm not into these MBA playoffs yet. I watched the second half of Spurs nuggets. And I've watched very little else in these MBA playoffs. The routine of on a week night. Watching to MBA playoff games. I'm done with that. I haven't been engaged in these playoffs whatsoever. The second round matchups three out of the four looked pretty good on paper. Milwaukee Boston Philly Toronto, Golden State Houston. I could take or leave Denver Portland. But I don't even know how much of this round. I'll watch I just assumed now with the NBA that chalk will reign supreme that we won't get any surprises. And I expect Milwaukee Toronto to meet in Eastern Conference finals and Golden State Denver to play in the Western Conference finals, It's going to take something out of the ordinary. Something extraordinary something different for me to get back into the NBA finals or back into the NBA playoffs. I need to see Golden State get down in the series. Even though the clippers played them close. It had some huge comebacks the series was never in doubt. We knew that they were going to win. And. And then the other thing that would probably get me into it would be if we had a Boston Philly Eastern Conference finals because that would at least bring back some memories, you'd have some Stahl job, and there's some bad blood between those two teams. But I think they're both going down. So. I don't know when I'm gonna get into it fully, I think Golden State even with the injuries in the back core. I don't think they'll have any problem with Houston. I think that they will pretty much roll through to an NBA finals. And then once they're there, maybe Milwaukee can give them a series. But I would highly doubt that too. Because with Milwaukee you trust the greatness of Jaanus, but who else on that team? Do you think is going to deliver championship caliber moments when it counts who you gonna trust in those situations brook Lopez? Chris middleton. This is a team that just what its first playoff series with this nucleus. I don't think they're ready to knock off the warriors in an NBA finals. I don't in Toronto's playoff history stinks. Philadelphia's disaster in Boston's underachieved all year. We're talking about Gregg Popovich. And I think he's getting a free pass for the way his team gave up at the end of last night's game. San Antonio didn't foul down four with thirty seconds left. They say it's because it was too loud inside the Pepsi center. I think Popovich is covering for his players with that excuse. I also think he's trying to cover his own tracks. They conceded that game. We're talking about world class NBA players. They don't all collectively have a brain fart. They didn't feel like fouling because they didn't think they could come back and win the game. And that's inexcusable in game seven of the NBA playoffs. Eight five five two one two four two eight five five two one two four two two seven is the number..
