Hurricane Iota upgraded to Category 5 storm as it nears Central America

"Not looking good Hurricane I owe to now a dangerous Category five storm swirling and likely to bring catastrophic damage to the same part of Central America already pummeled earlier this month iota rapidly intensifying overnight into a mighty storm. This is a system over the western Caribbean. It's headed toward Nicaragua and Honduras and the region again is bracing for impact. The U. S National Hurricane Center says Air force Hurricane hunters flew into the core. They measured maximum sustained winds. This is sustained winds of 160 miles an hour, so obviously the gusts are stronger than that. And that is very powerful. That's scary stuff. So evacuations began over the weekend to move people out of low lying areas in both Nicaragua and Honduras, right near their shared border. And the storm is expected to make landfall later today.

Well, let's first talk about what it is doing right now is a very poorly organized area of low pressure. Ahh, Tropical depression, not yet a store likely to strengthen into a storm. It's over the Caribbean just off the coast of Belize, so it's in the western Caribbean and it's over open water, so it's likely to strengthen back into a tropical storm. And currently, and this is the part of the forecast that were fairly comfortable with. In terms of we've got a good handle on it. It'll begin to move east Northeast. Tropical Storm Zeta expected to strengthen into hurricane

"Tropical Storm Zeta has stalled in the western Caribbean. But the National Hurricane Center says the storm is strengthening and is likely to become a hurricane by the time it nears Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and the U. S Gulf Coast, where it's expected to drop heavy rain along with those strong winds. The storm system is a very large one, and it could make landfall anywhere from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle. Louisiana's governor John Bell, Edwards, is urging residents to monitor the storm.

"Coast windows dot com. 24 hour Traffic Center from AA. Keep cool with a 24 hour weather center. You've got nothingto good news about our weekend weather on here, Terry Smith. But do you know I gotta, you know, Put a little harsh on your buzz. Bring me up to date on those two tropical systems that have any sort of not a great chance, maybe of bothering us, but at least have some sort of chance of forming into an actual store. Yeah, The one that's most likely to become a tropical depression or tropical storm is the one we've been talking about the last couple of days in the western Caribbean, not just off the Yucatan Peninsula. A National Hurricane center says it's got an 80% chance of being a depression or storm. Ah, today or tomorrow, but it's not moving very fast. It's gonna linger down there. It looks like through the weekend, maybe even into early next week, so we have plenty of time to watch that particular one. The other week wave made its way through the Lesser Antilles yesterday, now in the eastern Caribbean. Only about a 30% chance of some sort of better organization with that one. So that's not a concern as well. We've had so much dry air. And cooler air out of Canada make its way not just into Texas. It's moved into parts of Florida, too. So that's kind of cleaned out the possibility of anything really heading our way. With that that cold front stalled across parts of the Gulf Coast. It's kind of like a barrier to these systems. At least for the next several days. So sunshine and comfortable weather and no right right now through Tuesday were in the upper seventies, too low eighties today and tomorrow and loaded mid eighties on Sunday. "7 34 Alabama's morning news. I'm J t. Alright, listen Mad. Daniel is standing by to get an update on what's happening with the storm. Tropical depression potential Hurricane. We got some activity in the Gulf of Mexico. Matt over Fox six. What? What is going on down there? Yeah. J T. We got a lot of watch. We've got tropical depression 13 that's getting closer and closer to Puerto Rico and eventually to the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and right now it's fairly weak, but it is forecast to gradually strengthened as it gets closer and closer, the Bahamas and for that, I think 13 will be the system. Tau Watch for us here locally because the forecast has it maybe moving south of Florida and then into the Gulf of Mexico early next week and perhaps strengthening into hurricane And making landfall, maybe towards the Florida Panhandle, the Alabama coast or even as far west into Louisiana. So there's a lot of uncertainty. It could be, um, a lot weaker than they're forecasting. But we will watch it and it will likely produce some heavy rain along the Gulf Coast and maybe even into central Alabama going into maybe next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We're also watching Tropical depression 14. That's in the western Caribbean. That's forecast to maybe move into the Southern Gulf of Mexico by this weekend, and maybe gradually strengthened and that could also hit possibly near Houston, Texas, going early next week so we could literally have to tropical systems in the Gulf of Mexico at the same time, and that is really unusual. I think we've only seen that happened twice. On record or two or three times we've never actually seen to hurricane in the gulf. At the same time, it will be interesting to see if we will a CZ. We go into Monday into Tuesday, so a lot to watch it a lot too. Ah, lot of changes are possible. Wow, keeping an eye on that. Thank you. Mad Daniel Fox six with the update on what's happening in our Gulf of Mexico. And once again, I don't think we're going to see anything really getting close to. You know, the mobile area looks like that's the track for it until you know in next week sometime.

"Most likely still as a tropical storm nee sustain windsor and forty miles per hour it only takes thirty nine to get to a tropical storm status so i don't think there's enough time in space it gets a hurricane strength but still this is a deadly storm already at storm status then overnight tomorrow night it moves into the gulf of mexico and right now if you notice the track the cone of a we call it is not very wide it's always easier to sometimes forecast attract than it is the intensity this would be sunday morning between maybe four six in the morning a landfall paris's a louisiana possible anyone from lafayette over really tour doug pensacola should keep an eye on this and maybe sit down with the family to start to discuss where we have to leave we're thinking a category want a strong category one but most likely it could be a to as well i wouldn't even knock out the possibility that this could rapidly intensify that's what we have seen with all of these storms one thing in common it's it's just been a hyper active year the water is warmer in the western caribbean that it is in this southern gulf but let remind you hurricane harvey you just twelve hours went from a category one your category three and then made landfall as a categoryfour so it's very possible that we could see intensification not so much with the yucatan but notice the spaghetti plots we've come to know these so well here they are for morale lafayette over tour looks like mobile gulf port year involved in all of this area as well as it picks up it could still if it makes landfalls the strong category one or two have enough strength the knockout powers you get up toward maybe birmingham central areas of tennessee could we see the winds hold together up in new york.

"Thousand lives in the western caribbean the galveston hurricane is from five thousand six thousand maybe up to twelve thousand best estimated eight thousand people dead there are just no warning systems back then so that people don't know it's coming this is a great thing about the weather channel and everyone else more or less getting everyone agitated about this hurricane or ma because it's a good thing to be agitated because people will get the hell out of the way they they don't get out of the way in miami which is a much smaller city then and you get three hundred seventy two people dying forty three thousand left homeless in a city which is probably not even than one hundred thousand laws so things things are bad there and and that's followed up the next year by a run on local banks the banks dolts start to get bad in the depression they they are a lot of runs on banks in the 1920s a large large amount but most of them occur in rural areas their small banks and so the economic structure of florida and mississippi valley there's really crazy bad weather in the united states in that will in that second calvin coolidge term the hurricane of 1926 the miami is followed by a great mississippi flawed of april 1927 where you've got the my the mississippi get sixty miles wide at one point there are again two hundred fifty dead there are a million people affected it is it is a great mess in all of this is going to soften the economy me as is also the overspending by farmers during world war one because they're producing foodstuffs for europe and the rest of the world and they over plant than they overborrow and so that sector of the economy is weak and that more than the hurricanes or or the natural disaster is going to create conditions leading to the great depression in 1929 but then you get into the situation of um 1928 which is the killer the absolute killer that you were alluding to before that and the storm like all the others starts out there in the atlantic ocean pounds a uh an island called guadeloupe twelve hundred people die on his twice small island the significant thing in terms of warning for the um uh this hurricane and these hurricanes don't have names until 1950 three is for the.
