"And the unemployment number went up, 3 .5 to 3 .8, which means people are coming back into the labor force. Why is that good? It's going to keep wage growth down if more people get off the sidelines. Also, of course, there was 110 ,000 jobs revised down. And you can hear more of that conversation on the Bloomberg Businessweek podcast. You can download it wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to our two of Bloomberg sound on, we're live from Washington where there's not a lot of people left. But very high anticipation about what might happen next. Kaylee lines is with us. I have to admit, drive it in this morning. I thought it was Sunday, as I mentioned earlier to congressman Brian steil, who was with us, everybody's kind of gone here. Capitol Hill is a ghost town. The only people left are the ones who matter. It's eerily quiet, Joe. I just wonder if this is the calm before a storm or calm leading to sunshine in the form of a debt ceiling deal. When all the fish go away, the fish suddenly disappear and know the sharks are coming. I don't know. Look, we're getting some pretty good headlines here. We're trying to be very careful. Senator John ossoff was really slowing me down on the optimism talk because really people do not know what's going on inside that room. We do want to acknowledge that. But the headlines we do have would suggest we might be on the verge of something and it looks like one of the chief negotiators in the Republican side just gave us an update. Yeah, congressman Garrett graves who, of course, along with the House financial services chair Patrick mchenry have really been running point for speaker McCarthy in the talks. I don't know that I would say that these are overly positive, graves is saying that we've made progress, but major issues remain, and he says work requirements are among the outstanding issues, and we know that that has really been a sticking point for Democrats, Joe. They do not want work requirements, stricter work requirements attached to anything, even though President Biden has indicated he would be open to it maybe, just not when it comes to Medicaid and any health related benefits. And this is where it becomes, you know, depending on the fine tuning and the actual contents of this deal, where it becomes difficult to figure out the math of actually working it through the house. Absolutely. So that's been a real sticking point. And we've heard this over the course of the week with a number of progressive lawmakers who have joined us Kayleigh. Just not going to go there when it comes to additional work requirements. We've spoken to them here on sound on and on balance of power. Bloomberg TV. On the other side of this, it's looking like the freedom caucus will not get the budget cuts that they wanted and chip Roy was near meltdown on the House floor over this yesterday. All right, Charlie, thank you so much. Do you want to get to today's Bloomberg big take? It starts this way. The high Arctic is an internationally neutral zone that has long kept away from geopolitics, but climate change has precipitated an unusual level of activity in the remote polar region as colliding strategic interests and melting ice Stan to reshape it profoundly. Hence, why Russia's next standoff with the west may just be in the resource rich terrain of the Arctic. Add this folks to your list of concerns. For more on this story, it's a most read on the Bloomberg as well as the Bluebird big take, which I recommend you to check out online because of its there's some great geographical or graphical components to it that go with it. Here to tell us about the story, we head to Bloomberg news Toronto bureau chief Danielle beaucoup. She is with us via Zoom in our Toronto bureau. Danielle, it is an incredible story. As I said among the most read, tell us, first of all, about this region and what's the hair and what everybody wants to go after. Yeah, I mean, there's a lot of layers to what's going on in the Arctic right now, Carol, but this particular story started with a question, which was who owns the North Pole. And the answer is kind of that it belongs to everybody and it belongs to no one. And there is good in that, and there's bad. It's good in a way because the fact that it doesn't belong to anyone offers some protection from exploitation from people going out and just kind of exploiting it for oil and gas and things like that that could have pretty big climate ramifications potentially. But it also means that all of the countries that share stewardship of it have to get along. They have to be able to collaborate. And since the Cold War, that hasn't really been a problem. But things that have been becoming much more tense since the annexation of the Crimea by Russia and obviously since the war in Ukraine. So now you've got this situation where you've got Russia the largest Arctic country and 7 others. And there's just a lot of questions about what that's going to mean for the future of the Arctic going forward. Walk us through then how this is now coming to a head when it comes to this standoff with Russia and how this affects what you're talking about. It's a very slow standoff. I have to say. Under international law. So it could take a while to resolve. But under the international law of the countries have economic rights to the seabed floor. And those rights can be extended out under the ocean for quite a ways depending where their continental shelves lie. And depending on the depth of the shelf, there's a bunch of legal criteria. But basically, Canada, Denmark and Russia all have their own opinions as to where their continental shelves lie. They all say they stretch to

Carol master, along with Jess met and live in our Bloomberg interactive broker studio streaming on YouTube and Bloomberg originals. Well, earlier this month, our next guest opened her latest outpost right here in New York City up in Harlem, and in doing so, it was a bit of a homecoming of sorts for her. Her slutty vegan restaurants are said to be valued at a $100 million as she continues to expand and include restaurant tour Danny Myers enlightened hospitality investments and essence ventures, CEO rich Dennis new voice fund among its investors. So let's head to Atlanta where her company is based, pinky Cole is the founder and owner of slutty vegan restaurants. She joins us via Zoom. So nice to have you here with us. I was looking forward to this conversation. Tell us about your company. Thank you. Well, good. Great to have you here. Tell us about your company, the food that's on your menu. And what demand from your customers and from the growth of your business tells you about the vegan food world. I started this crazy. Uh, we got a little bit of frozen. In terms of zooms. So we're hoping we can work that out technically and get back to her. But the vegan business, the food business, the protein, plant based food business, is something we talk about a lot here. And so curious to get her perspective on it, could we certainly have seen a lot of investment dollars? Definitely to it. And certainly seen the public side, there are publicly held companies. There are private companies. They struggle a bit, though, since the industry, which is about a decade old. They have definitely and especially being us being here in New York. I feel like there's so many different options on the vegan side of things, but me being from Texas, I've definitely seen it expand in that state, especially in Austin and other areas, which has been interesting to see over the past decade as far as these different restaurants and just looking at their menu right now as far as the different burgers seek some of the names that dancehall Queen and some of these other ones. And it's really fun. And we'll ask her about it. I did a little bit of Googling before we finish. Do we have her yet? Not quite yet. But did some Googling into terms of her name and how it came to be. And hopefully we can get to her in just a moment to have her explain it. In the meantime, let's just remind you how we closed on this Monday. We did see stacks bouncing around a little bit, volatility, but what was really key is that it certainly felt like some calmness came back to the financial markets and certainly with the bank sector, which rallied, whether it was regionals, whether it was the big banks, they finished off their highs, but nonetheless, that provided support for the overall market. That to your note, yield popping above 4% right now we're looking at a two year that finished or trading at about 3.99. So just below it, but move up from what we saw last week. Right, and especially coming into today, getting some promising news with first citizens, SVB looking at what's happening as far as it purchasing all of those loans that are there. I know a lot of people were concerned as far as trying to figure out what parts of SVB or certain banks potentially going to try to buy, but then you came into this week, and then obviously the good news was for citizens. If you're looking to be more broadly though, the S&P 500 energy was the biggest gainer today up more than 2% of fortunately, if you're thinking more of the technology and growth side, tack down close to 1% communication services on that side too down about 1%. But obviously that having to tie into yields. All right, we do have our guests back with us. Let's get back to pinky Cole founder and owner of study vegan restaurants, pinky Sari. We're living in this technology world that most of the time works, but doesn't always. So tell me. Tell us about your company and the demand that you're seeing from your customer and your growth, what it tells you about the vegan food world. So I started this company in 2019. And I had no idea that I was building a $100 million brand. It went from a ghost kitchen to a food truck to now having almost ten locations in Atlanta, Birmingham, and now New York City. And what I realized is there was a market to help people to reimagine food in a way that they haven't seen it before. So of course we've had beyond meat, you know, disrupt the industry and possible foods to disrupt the industry, but now flooding vegan into the conversation has started to disrupt because there were so many people that were looking for plant based alternatives and wanted it in a way where it tasted good and you didn't have to compromise the things

I've seen as fifty seven percent and now in recent days in an effort to curb that spike in oil prices. The opec plus group began discussions just last week to raise production by four hundred thousand barrels a month from august through december that would raise production by two million barrels.
