Yes, that was football last night and the upset of the night Mount Vernon Fort Ville took down new pal. 35 to 22 with network Indiana sports. I'm Rod comic. Welcome back everybody and Bob level. This is Indiana sports talk. A lot of racing a lot of racing going on NASCAR in Richmond IndyCar at mid Ohio. Brad Hebrew. What's happening in the NASCAR race? Well, we've got about 30 laps to go in Richmond, the second race of the playoffs first round for the NASCAR Cup. Siri's and I've been following it NASCAR dot com leader board that looks like it's been Brad Keselowski has been Very, very dumb that I can't see my lapses lead, But every time I've looked, he's like he's currently got a 2.5 2nd lead Over. Martin Truex Jr. Georgia, Gondo Austin Dillon Chase Elliott, the top 5 29 to go They're in Richmond, Virginia. So, you know, it seems like it's been a common theme All year. Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski and Denny Hamlin. Kevin Harvick won the Southern 500 last week at Darlington Break has lost key today. You think it's going to one of those three guys toe be when it comes to Ah to the championship here this year. You know, you look at it, and it has been of for the most part, Keselowski and Harvick, Keselowski and horrifically end up one too. Coming in the playoffs, and here you are. Guess what, they're one, too, And there's a reason why I mean the consistency has been really something to watch. It has been and you know they've won several races this year and Team Penske number two car that Stewart Haas Racing number four car. You know, Consistency will win you championships, You know, not just racing but any sport and you know, we've seen it out of those guys and throw and any hammer. He's won a lot this year and, ah I say those air, certainly the three favorites to go at it for the championship. It looks like through two races in the playoffs. Keselowski and Harvick are gonna be the two when there so far and puncher tickets into the round of 12, which will start in Las Vegas in a couple weeks of final race in this first round, the cutoff race where they go from 16 to 12 on the Cups. I will be next week at another short track in Bristol, Tennessee. Eachother back to Bristol on and then you know the four stages and so you know it is. It's not surprising. We know when we've talked Adam Alexander on the weekends, hey has said Hey, look, you know Keselowski, Harvick, Harvick. Keselowski. It just seems like they're going back and forth. And you know what's amazing after the entire year. Here they are, at the end kind of doing it. All right. Mid Ohio tomorrow for NTT IndyCar. Today domination by willpower. It was a very dominant by willpower. He won his 60th career pole earlier today. They will qualify again tomorrow for tomorrow's race. But you want 1/60 career and Poland other than the two pit cycles. No willpower was dominant throughout the race. Today, you got his first win, and if you can believe it or not, this was race number 10 of the 2020 season and today it was well powers first when he had not found Victory Lane before today. That was his first ever win at mid Ohio as well. So, he said on the postrace interview on NBC, he was happy to. Ah, To check middle high off the list with all the history of that race track, But yeah, so he and Scott Dixon he was appointed leader. He finished 10th today. The guy trailing him in the points. Joseph Newgarden was second, so I cut the lead down the 75. Still, you know, not all that close but is doable with four races to go. And then tomorrow should tell a lot. Assed faras. We're the championship. Chase is going to go with three races to go with Indianapolis a doubleheader and then hopefully finishing the season that same P, But Yeah. So you should be very interesting tomorrow. It's a very physically demanding racetrack. Did 75 laps today have to do another 75 there tomorrow. Anybody in the wall? Do we have a crew working overtime to get cars ready tomorrow because of the short turn around anybody. Anybody have a problem will pick up that conversation with bread here just a few seconds. We're glad you're with us. For Indiana Sports dog now coming up next Friday, obviously. We're number five, the high school football season Adam Alexander from Fox Sports. One joins us, So we're racing brother. We are racing in Richmond. What's going on? He had 19 laps to go in the race, Bob and it's one that's been dominated by Brad Keselowski's lead over 170 laps. And unless he has a major problem of the caution comes out the drama and this one is pretty much over. And I don't think this is really that surprising. You know, Brad Keselowski Have been two distinct set up with the cars this year, and when they have run this short track package, it has really gone the way of his last year, he won the last timeout in dominating fashion. When we were under this configuration at New Hampshire last month, and he's showing that same dominance here this evening in Richmond, and and this is a good thing because five of the 10 playoff races or run With this set up, including the championship race in Phoenix. So I think right now, a lot of momentum on the side of bride his Laskin and starting to look like maybe that third driver they could join the conversation. Kevin Harvick and getting Hamlin who've been good all season long. Yeah, I mean, it's just interesting to see how it's gotten to this point, and, ah, you make a good point. You know the package and how Keselowski has done on short tracks. Obviously you do this and know where what it's about. But the way these things kind of work their way out in terms of venues for the remaining races, kind of stacks it up for him. It really does. And I think probably the most surprising thing about what we've seen deny is the fact that Joe Gibbs Racing has been so dominant it Richmond coming in 814 in a row. Seven of the last nine They have not been as good tonight Marks, which junior who swept the races. They're last year's second right now, but really has not been in, you know, in the neighborhood of wrecked his Lasky when you look at the balance of their night. Kyle Busch has had a really good run six wins all time at Richmond swept the races here in 2018. He's in the top 10 after starting in the back, but has never been a real threat to win. And Denny Hamlin. This is his home track. He's had a lot of success here, winning three times. But he had a penalty for speeding on pit road and really after that has never been able to find his way back to the front and right now running outside the top 10, so I don't know what's more impressive. The fact that Brad is is doing this with this package, or the fact that he's gone to Richmond attract the joke is raising his own. And and really, it's not been close. She's been able to pull away from them and the rest of the competition. All right, darling to next week Ah, race three. Excuse me Bristol next week. For a week. Three who races well, historically, there of the guys were talking about how they performed there. Well. Brad Kozlowski did win the race there earlier this season. But that was a little bit surprising. He didn't have the best car Chase Elliott, Joey Logano Day They got together late and that open the door for Brad to steal one at Bristol. But Brad will be good. He's won. They're multiple times in his career. I think Lagana was someone to watch. Joe has been really good tonight. Running inside the top five all evening long. You know, Austin Dillon is someone who's really turn heads in these playoffs and top five last week, Darlington second nearly got Kevin.

"Patrol west Lafayette has the football and a one point advantage. Here's the play action pass down the sideline it has caught wide. Open four west Lafayette down the sidelines and touchdown west Lafayette. The big cats thereby Harrison true it goes eighty eight yards for another big touchdown and ice pitching. Catch. Their starting with Kyle Adams all-stars but play action you talked about it earlier. Tony great point here. The big six five Harrison it what the what the huge play for the Red Devils and just like that they take over at the twelve yard line play action over the top Truitt halls it in and goes eighty eight yards. So right now Carl Adams with touchdown passes of eighty one ninety two and eighty eight yards one. Eight yards took eleven seconds. And just like that it's thirty three to twenty six with the extra point pending. It's down up, and it is good. So just like that on a one quick play fourteen on answer points by west Lafayette. They have the advantage now thirty four to twenty six. Tell you what the biggest thing that value. Get there is again, we're trying to do some double coverage. But what happens just because you're random ball? So well this series before the safety is peaky inside by the time. He realizes what's going on heresy. True. It's passed. Amir great job of just giving. I'm Harrington a casual ball Baikal. He is really played well day again, not the microlender our hazard because he has as well. But college Adams is matching Linda our throw fourth row right now Harrison Truitt with that catch his ninth. Touchdown pass catch of the season. He's got three catches for one hundred and eleven yards and that touchdown of eighty eighty s averaging thirty seven per and he has three catches on three targets and very impressive to come out. And just take a shot. Deep it paid off Kyle Adams now twenty one of twenty eight for four hundred and sixteen yards and his fourth touchdown pass of the afternoon. So happy for Kyle apps. Kid works hard, the young, man. A great student of the game. His his dad is one of the coaches on on the staff. He's waited hit his term. You heard Shane he almost won the job as a sophomore played a little bit last year, but really has embraced his role this year and really done a great.

"And how could you sustain that for a season? Right. I mean, nobody is exactly the same every week. There's challenges you know when when you have to get your team to squeeze everything, it's got into a game and and coaches that are great, like he is you rise to that moment, but grind every minute every day. Like I said, the season got off to a very bad start with the three game suspension than I. I think he feels like this is just not his kinda team. It's just his kinda team right now, some of the intangibles in the way they're playing offense without the ability to run the ball with office. It's not physical sent doing its job with the defense out a position too often doesn't have that at stud leadership. So I mean, I think it's he's not comfortable with the way they're playing. I think he knew that it was going to come home at some point in did an all places west Lafayette. Chris, we wrap up, let's broaden this conversation a little bit. Everyone knows the calendar where we away from the first college football, playoff in things are starting to to settle in. You've seen a lot of these teams already. Certainly, it looks like the usual suspects other than Michigan trying to join the party, they they were pretty serious threat a couple years ago. What are your thoughts? I mean, we know Alabama, but, but you, but you see the rest of them as well, including Clemson. Yeah, Alabama's gotta lose to the not get in. That's very likely. So I think you put them in as their phantom expected. The very intrigued watch given Baton Rouge standpoint of two versus that defense because he's otherworldly to freakish plan this year. He's having the numbers. The analytics, and it's off the charts, crazy good. But this is that was playing good defense that's ultimately challenge for for a opposing offense, environment, environments. I'm looking forward to that business tricky play out teams, the fresh blood PU, try to comb because can anyone rape and get into this play. That hasn't been there, which I think needs to happen to to maximize the national interest in the bracket, whether it's Notre Dame or Michigan, which controls their destiny. You know something you might laugh. We have Texas since we on the road at upstate, but long wants to that that close loss to Maryland early every lap sits wins. And and you know, now they have a chance that he can if they can win it out, perhaps beat Oklahoma or West Virginia. Again, the twelve, I think they'd be a playoff team. They would be a contender for that fresh blood thing. I think that tax out of business, but that what's LSU I'm to see is strong contender to busted for the. First time, I've just curious to see how many breakthrough teams will have any Clinton. You're very strong for the state doesn't even as a major challenge. You never know, but in Tallahassee that that's their next obstacle, but I don't. I don't think anyone's going to be. Great stuff at amazing thing of of Clemson, Florida state game has is not Nepal's premium game of the weekend. We had that circle beginning of the year, like way. Clemson, Florida state. We have rerouted, but thanks, someone. Let's does. It worked out last week for you, Chris. Thanks so much. Always great to talk. Always a pleasure talking to you about one of our favorite guests, Chris. Fowler joining us and we. Yeah, pre I got go to Purdue. I'm sure he had Kirk looked at each other turned out to be one of the most emotional and significant memorable moments of the listening to Paul finebaum show podcast. We're talking about South Carolina hosting Tennessee. This weekend, you'll be doing the game. In terms of importance, Tennessee wants to get better, but South Carolina needs to win yet. Absolutely do what they said that three and three right now they've had ups and downs compete on the road against Texas AM. You have drops all over the place. You have a quarterback and Jake Bentley who's been up and down backup quarterback in score Nekia who had one game and everybody was calling for him. You've had the fans thinking that Bentley's not the guy for the job, and boo, it's been everything you don't want to happen during the season. Not not to mention that you're now sitting halfway through and you really not playing for a ton other than pride and obviously a bowl game..

"Seven thirty. On ABC six going to be at Ross ADE stadium in west Lafayette, the buckeyes on the road this week. The point spread is actually went down the buckeyes at the beginning of the week. They were thirteen and a half point favorites. And now they are thirteen point favorites. And so Anita check back in with Josh to find out. What exactly if you're thinking of betting on this? And you're, you know, taking Josh's advice. What exactly you should be doing on this game? I know you don't like this game at all you were saying because you feel like it's a I don't know a trap game. I know anything it's a trap game. I think they for group Purdue telegraphs what they're going to do. They're going to throw the ball over the field. They have some outstanding skill position players. I will argue that they have better skill position players, especially at the white Penn State does and we saw what that was like it's going to be west Lafayette. It's at night. They were the number two team in the country. Be the biggest win twenty some years for produce. Since drew Brees came in and upset Ohio State when they were like fourth or fifth in the country, my freshman year at Ohio State. I mean, it's just it's insane. To think about. You know, I I'm scared. I'm I'm legitimately nervous. So if they win I do not think you're going to be looking at a blonde. So don't touch this. I would not I would not touch Ohio State to cover the thirteen thirteen and a half. That means they're probably gonna win by thirty hope. So you know, what I would rather be wrong and sound like a moron on the radio then to have Ohio state's national title hopes derailed by Purdue of all teams. Do you know Purdue as a winning record in the last thirteen meetings against Ohio State? I didn't know that. Yeah. I wonder why thirteen because that's where they had to stop. Okay. Did you see what happened at that that last call Ohio liquor control store supposed to go? What's going on, man? It opened at nine AM. It's going to be gone by the time. We get off the air. Well, it's at this giant eagle in Victorian village story about it. People are coming to stock up for holiday stuff, even get this. They were even loading up baby strollers, it says they were loading baby strollers with down bourbons vodkas Rumson scotch this kind of something kinda wrong about that. Anyway, seventy five people were in line at the the discount liquor store. Which is again, we said last call there was a guy there named LARs. And it's he's talking about how you get anytime. You get in boos for half price. It's a good time. This guy carried out a box of bottles to his car. He goes, I got lots of good stuff like tequila in rum and scotch in there. And I and another guy was talking about how he spent three hundred and eighty bucks. He probably would have spent like six hundred technically. But he goes, I got it all for like three hundred and eighty bucks. So and it was part yard sale park. Cocktail party is the way you described it. So there it is if you were thinking of going over there, but they're saying they're going to restock this tonight after people kinda run through and kind of pillage if you will. And everything's spread out everywhere. There's no groups of whatever. And yeah, I it caught my attention because Josh started with all manner. You kidding me? I'm like what I just I was just I didn't realize how many I thought it was a secret. See we I knew we shouldn't have gone on here last week and talked about secret. No one's listening to us. And we talked about it for five minutes. Exactly. I did it too. I I shouldn't have print in the story. I.

"So you don't have to commute anymore the cheapest. We could find what the thousand dollars that's not true. Well, the so the in west Lafayette, they don't charge per bedroom or anything. They charge per person and the cheapest rent that I've seen as five hundred. They kind of gauge the college students because they know that they're going to get our people that rent houses there that don't run the college students. The entire town is not college students. So do you believe that statement? What was that? Do you believe that statement the entire town is not college students? No. Entire town is not. So there are some people that rent there that aren't college students in that don't pay that type of rent. Yes, how this most all this college student. So go rent you a house for six hundred bucks, seven hundred bucks near there and move, and you do not buy a house until you're out of debt, and you need to get this car loan paid off and an emergency fund saved before you talk about buying a house. Okay. We do have our emergency fund good. How much is in the emergency fund? Three thousand dollars. Okay. Give mama two thousand of it. Take it two thousand and let's get this car paid off as soon as possible. Okay. What is your household income. Well, when I graduate in December or household income will be about twenty thousand air. You're getting a college degree to make twenty thousand dollars. For now, that's what is your career in animal science. Okay. So what are you going to be doing? Take twenty thousand take home. I should say, yeah. But I mean, you went four years of school. That's. It's a horrible income for four years of school dude. So we need to rethink what we're doing with the direction of that as well. But you need to get the car paid off. You've been to build an emergency fund of three to six months of expenses. You do not have that and then you start saving for a house and it sounds like probably both yell out of Bill school before you start talking about a house because you're way too broke to buy a house right now. You got no money. You got no money at all, and I would move over there close to the, you know, but don't don't make statements like all the houses are rented dot dot dot because there's no such thing as all. There's just not. That's a fatalistic statement. It's not true someone somewhere does something different. You can't rent an apartment without a credit score. Not true. You can't rent some apartments without a credit score. True. You can't rent an apartment unless they charge all in, let's say, charge per person what you said. Not true. You can't rent some of the apartments that in the media area of the college, but back off a few miles from the college, but not as many miles as your war now where you don't have a one hour commute and but that's what I would do. I don't think buying a home is going to be a blessing to you right now. I think it's going to be a curse because you guys are so title money. It's gonna put you in a real pinch. Thanks for the call, open phones at triple eight, eight to five, five, two, two, five.

"Time right now seven forty seven Tony Facebook Tony cats. Radio west, Lafayette Moving, down, the, line, of, gun, control An article that appeared in journal and Currier written by Chris ca- Paki who is the state director of the National Rifle Association the institute for legislative action writing that the recent past resolution promoting a failed gun control agenda in west Lafayette is another example of how gun control extremists. Are attempting to take away our. Freedoms let. Me bring in right now Chris capacity talk to, me, about what happened in west Lafayette a what is it that they passed Good morning Tony In west Lafayette we've seen some other places here Indiana's well recently where they're passing these messaging bills or. Resolutions non non-binding they absolutely have no enforcement. Of any law they don't create policies or they're trying to get the general semblance, to an act stricter. Gun, control laws specifically this one is looking at trying to do more, with background checks trying to impose background checks on private citizens when they're potentially transferring firearms to family. Friends and, others So, we we've we've seen this before certainly Indianapolis has tried to go, down this road they they recently passed a? Resolution referring to gun violence as a public health issue which. Of course is less about public health and more about moving down the road of trying to get people. Into the idea that guns are the enemy. As opposed to cultural aspects being the enemy but when there's a conversation about background, checks what is the. The, the the the real issue when when mayor John Dennis want stricter, background checks what is the position that opposes background checks because they already exist in the Knicks system That's correct anybody that goes. Into a gun store a federally licensed dealer they have to have a background check or Knicks check conducted before they can walk, out of the store. With that firearm if the transaction is not approved legally they can't do that now some people, say there's these loopholes that allow transactions to occur outside of these. Gun stores, but, that's a private party. Transaction, that's two people likely that know each other. Have, dealt with each other could be family friends it could be a neighbor it, could be you know individuals that are collectors they're not required to do a background check but they cannot sell to somebody this alma can't saw somebody that they know has mental problems person and they're. Liable essentially for that if they make those, sales those transactions go, through so, the laws are tight enough as it is as far as firearms? Legally come into circulation they have to go? Through SSL and you have to have a A background check done those situations talking to you Chris capacity he is the, state director for the National Rifle. Association the institute for legislative action one of the things you. Mentioned is you talk about studies. By the center for disease. Control and the, National Academy, of sciences discussing gun, control and reductions in violence I make this, this arguments constantly that we can. Have all the laws we want about laws are not followed by people who don't want to follow the law what is the, response that you get. From mayor Dennis or from others when you engage these kinds of conversations that there is no, correlation there is no proof of gun control laws reducing violence anywhere Yeah obviously, with you know in my capacity with legislators and policy-makers quite regularly and if you look at is if you will the mainstream media talking points really quick they're like, okay, yeah background checks for everybody. But we start to sit down. And say hey we'll look at this kind of you know rationally, one, would you wanna prevent you know a father from passing, on his firearm to his son and. Do you think they should get government permission and pay fee for that they're like, no well. What about your neighbor that you've grown up with you've known for twenty years you've. Gone hunting with no him for for decades and you needed to borrow your shock that she you have to go get permission before you can make that transfer to. Him to be able to go to the shooting range or whatever may be most of. My no that's actually kind of silly we don't need to do that. And he started talking about the resources districts are actually talking about well how do criminals get possession of firearms and you look they get. It from the black market they steal them, or they get People to do straw purchases which. Is getting, somebody, that's, not prohibited person to, go into an f. f. l. pass the, background, check and then illegally transfer the, firearm to, them knowing that there is a, little fence, it's a felony a very serious crime and he started. Talking about well what about the gun shows you start looking at some of? The research, where. They've, actually gone in and talk to his felons that? Use firearms and you find. A word of getting them from against the street is the black markets straw purchase we talk about, that less than one percent that's point eight percent ever said they want to a gun show to get a firearm so we're really not a problem there is a, very, small number and again it's. Doing more background checks more background. Checks increasing the burden does nothing to increase public safety Chris capacity, he, is the.

"It is sort of know to be fair west lafayette is the start lottery that's my worst you're talking worse college towns in each conference and let me just say penrico created a holiday what what does that do it was called st patty's day and the purpose of it was the administration kept making spring break over saint patrick's day so that we wouldn't have this drinking holiday so the students got together and created their own holiday called st patty's day where the the population would almost double because people would come in to penn state he realized away the federal government does not recognize state patty's day right you realize that's not a real holiday i understand it on a real holly we're talking college towns here what other college towns created a drinking holiday ohio halloween that's not how is a holiday st patrick's day it was celebrated two weeks earlier with green beer day at bureau green beer day yeah green beer these are not holidays let's go over saint worse town in each conference if you say penn state i swear i'm cutting all your mics drew and i have been to almost every college town in our travels over the years we say start willing the sec what's the worst in the big ten i will say is bad as as happy valley is i will say that west lafayette's worse our time do was the worst weekend of my life you called it per dude yes there's guys everywhere i don't know how people find love in college at purdue we have a michigan state grad on the shows well okay he's land fan we had fun in east lansing i'm let me say so we're going to put west lafayette i'm gonna go ahead and tell you the worst college campus i've ever been on by far i we'll see if you agree with me marquette yes now that which is otherwise i find town but i would say market right worst in the acc jared what's the worst acc town.

"I think i'm doing exactly what i want to be doing oddly enough which is rare that you'd be able to you're able to say that but i i'm kind of doing everything i want to be doing and i'm that's a nice feeling yet congrats thank you what about your your day job i want to talk a little bit about that no terrible getaway now what is your day job i teach at purdue university yeah i've been to have you because i'm from chicago original so it's like real close it's very close which is a saving grace for west lafayette yes so i teach at purdue though starting last academic year i moved to teaching one class a year because i can't keep up a full teaching load where we teach to to load there i mean thanks for telling me that because i have literally just been like a how how is this happening i don't know how i managed it for as long as i did my first job was three three where i was teaching three courses a semester and it was insane and she's actually a good teachers week is that you know it depends it's about ten or eleven in class hours and then forty hours of prep and then you're all like writing a book yes i did right that's extremely challenging time well yeah it was challenging and at purdue i was teaching two courses of semester which is a dream load for anyone because so many people are now teaching four or five courses semester which is so untenable for so many people but it was still too much in addition to all the work and the travel and the writing and so i just told the university you know i love teaching and i would like to continue teaching but i can't keep up this pace and be good at teaching which is something that's important to me and so starting last year i got to teach one class a year which allows me to be present for that class and cheech it well and also be able to do other things so it's nice.
