Indianapolis Colts' T.Y. Hilton to Miss Start of Season

"T Y. Hilton expected to miss the start of the regular season after re aggravating a neck injury. At practice last week earlier on ESPN radio are Courtney Cronin in Shape Peppler. The Colts need to let go stage their locker room like they need to take a page out of the Baltimore Orioles and what they did there in breaking a 19 game losing streak because it just feels like injury after injury for them Now, next on the list is T Y Hilton, who's got a back problem. They don't know the diagnosis with That, But I know Courtney, you've got some more insight as to what the deal is with T Y Hilton in Indianapolis. Yeah, Apparently he was injured in practice on Wednesday. This didn't come from the preseason game that they just played on Friday. That happened early, and then he came back out and he was able to finish practice. But now we find out Shea that he has a back and a neck injury and he's out indefinitely and that comes on the heels. And, like 24 hours, they find out that and then Sam Ehlinger, the backup quarterback as a knee injuries out for 4 to 6 weeks. I think that this Indianapolis team for all the steps forward that they were able to take in the last few weeks, getting Carson Wentz back at practice, the good at least, you know, positive news that they got with Quentin Nelson, who had the same foot injury that Carson once has. That it's not going to be the end of his season, either, And then they're dealt this blow the big one here, though, as I look at all of these injuries and trying to figure out which is the worst one is probably Ehlinger because you don't know when Carson once is really going to be ready to play. Is it going to be weak? One? They haven't put that timetable on him. Yet. That is still two weeks away. Your backup quarterback right now is Jacob Eason like it was supposed to be Ehlinger. But now he's out 4 to 6 weeks. That's something that I don't think is a should give them any confidence. That's a Big below Hilton, Like many

Will Carson Wintz Be Ready for Week 1?

"Good news from indianapolis where quarterback carson wentz and guard quentin nelson will return to practice this week on a limited basis to nelson nelson both coming off foot surgery in early august holtz head coach. Frank reich had this to say about his quarterback last week in the perfect world. We have a really good idea after that third preseason game and carson would get to work two weeks going into the first game. That's the perfect world. The nets perfect world is the only gets the work of game week. I don't know if that's going to happen would be week to week. Three is still some mystery here regarding the timeline on carson wentz. What do we make of the recovery. Time line here. It seems to be going pretty well. Kimberly what are you hearing. In terms of carson wentz in the colts yeah it was somewhat surprising just because the initial time was five to twelve weeks and you know when i asked people around the league. Oh carson may be back in practice. Look at this. they're like. Oh is that an indictment on the other guys. I don't think that's the case. But i think india's a very delegates only because we've seen frank reich Gold took in my opinion go above and beyond in solidify this carson's team then and we. I love nick foles. But this is carson's team gotta hear this nicole stock and it just seemed a little extra and when you think about how carson has been described by people in league as far he needs to feel security needs to feel wanted. He needs to know that this is his team. The colts clearly are doing that. So this tie him being back at practice so soon you want you wanna make sure that he's not rushing himself back before he needs to be because this is a team that could go really far

"News is good from Colts camp. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reporting quarterback Carson Wentz. All Pro guard went Nelson are trending toward playing in the September 12th season opener, both recovering from foot surgeries. There's one main determining factor for when in his return. Notes more this is really about a pain management issue. And Carson here the high pain threshold and yesterday, walking around the entire practice. As I said, with no boots and hardly any limp, that was a good sign and reaffirmed to me more than once at this, you know they feel better about week one.

"Frank right says carson. Wentz will have surgery today on his injured foot and we'll be sideline but five and twelve weeks. This follows news from over the weekend. That once was going arrest his foot rather than have surgery right. Said second year quarterback jacob season will get first team reps with out problem in in tho- sell. How concerning is this breaking news for the colts very concerning if you're a coach fan part of the quotes organization. It couldn't be any worse. And i know some people. Yes it could. It could be outfit entire year. No i think that would actually be better than him. Missing twelve up to twelve weeks. We here right now. These reports let me tell you what this is worse than being out the entire year. If he was out the entire year he gets ranch. Yeah the entire year shoulders. Go from this man saying i was going to show them this year to show him again next year but this one is truly going to be damaging walk because it really is his body and his mind is going to be out of sync. Asamoah bows was talking about. Carson is actually live through that as well in terms of there's a calendar there's a schedule there are reps. they're going to be prescribed. They're going to be opportunities. And not gonna participate knows. Why does it matter the carson with because carson wentz is trying to get some good film out there carson. Wentz is trying to get his mojo back carson. Wentz is trying to get the doubt burs to fly away but the problem is when you now are off schedule and it's not a new system. Wouldn't know wish. Because it is frank reich on a different team when you're carson wentz. You wanted to snowball to start. You wanted to get the first good taste and then just keep them going to keep on growing. But now you're in a position where you can't even start that momentum. Now you fast forward this november i. Where's the team is a team in contention and we really don't need you. The team out of contention are struggling like come. Save the day greater expectations for god. Who's last time he was on. The football field wasn't looking good. All of this adds up to a horrible recipe for carson wentz to go back out there and now have to deal with another injury mind off his injury history and carson wentz screen time. Oh my man. I don't know what you did in your prior life brother but missed now treaty because you are living through it right now i was injury prone but this is next level concussion. Back injury aco. Llc rib rhys now you could throw into knicks. Here's the problem with him. How do you get all of that behind you. You know what i'll show. There's only one way to put something good in front of you. But right now he has to wait up to three months to get that good taste. And that's why. This is very concerned when i see that injury full screen. I just see toughness in brazilian. 'cause fans you have no reason to worry they have no reason to worry. The carson wentz his heart and it's because of this. The colts needed a quarterback to get them over the hump not to get them to the filming do without carson wentz. The coast is still going to get to to hunt and they just needed a quarterback to get them over the hump..

"Could choose playthrough pain. And this guy's got an injury history. Get surgery clean it up miss some weeks again. You're in a bad the vision a really. I think it's the worst division football. I know the nfc east would give it a run for its money but i think washington and dallas at least are exceptional on one side of the football. Washington's defense is amazing. They have they have the best young defensive line and football and the cowboys have all sorts of offensive weapons. They're receiving course great. This divisions mess outside of the colts offensive line. There's not a single unit in that division. that's really note worthy. I mean it's the colts all line and not much else. And so when decides let's get surge. And i think this is part of it. I think the colt realize he can miss eight weeks and they can go three and five. They're good enough coach. Good enough roster. They have really nice weapons. Jonathan taylor emerged as a star running back commingled three and five and hold on for dear life i think that's part of it and so carson wentz has decided let's just get surgery cleanness thing up to high school injury bla-bla-bla be ready. Some people are floating the idea. The chris ballard the. Gm should go out. Perfect time to get jimmy garoppolo but remember whence his history is one with injuries. Garoppolos history is one with injury. So you wouldn't be asking. Chris ballard one of the smart. Gm's i consider him a friend in the sport to say. Hey you know that injured guy. That's really expensive. Why don't you go out and get another injured guy. That's really expensive now. Lance has reportedly been excellent in camp in his. Battling jimmy garoppolo four the starting job so i do believe the niners..

"The i don't share jeff's concern. Here's the thing. not not. Very many people were coming in and thinking. Check me out to me jeff. Not very many people came in and said carson wentz is going to be the hero. He's going to be the savior. Not many people had the indianapolis colts winning a lot of those first five games. So it's not like we're saying oh carson wentz and all of a sudden the super bowl contender for these first five and now. They're not now if he's out for more than the first five six weeks. Then i'm concerned. But i will say this frank reich. Who coach me back in twenty twelve when i was with the arizona cardinals. He's even he's steady. he's so even killed. We started off that year. Four and we lost a lot of games towards the end of the season but he never faltered never failed. We all remember back in nineteen ninety one of the greatest comebacks. Nfl history so well from a coaching perspective. I don't have as many concerns. i do understand. This is a quarterback centric league. I get that and so if carson wentz is out for more than six weeks of the regular season i'm concerned but those first four or five weeks a lot of us weren't picking india to win those games anyways. Jeff let me jump in here jeff. Here's the other thing with carson wentz. Obviously he had a rough time in philadelphia so he gets traded to india. And there's this aspect of trying to rebuild him not just physically mentally also in his head with what was going on so in that perspective. What do you think of this injury. And how does that affect the rebuilding of carson wentz mentally into a possible franchise quarterback now. It's a big deal right. His his i. His career has been littered with injuries as well right so when you're talking about him of the availability is the greatest ability in the nfl. Your quarterback to be there weekend and week out for that consistency and listen. I share sam's Feelings about frank. I played for frank for a number of years. So i know my love as a coach. I love chris. Ballard the general manager. But here's the bottom line players win football games and as good a coaches you have you gotta have the players and they did bring carson wentz in with the mindset. He was going to be a savior for this franchise. They understood. he's got some issues. They would not have brought him in if they didn't think he was the guy they would have written with jacob in and said hey he's going to be our future they did not say that they brought him in so they could go win in the playoffs. They had a chance to win against buffalo. They didn't succeed. When philip rivers retired day did bring carson winston to be the guy that that whole idea of the first five games. Let me tell you something. They believe they can win. All five of those games with carson wentz. They do not believe the same with jacobson. Rest assure. Whatever they say. That's the truth in that building and keep in mind. They have the toughest schedule in the nfl over those five weeks so that is going to make it really tough adam. I'll give you the last word on this. What of the colts thinking about their chances. With carson wentz at this point. Well here's the thing ryan. This has been a super bowl contending team that is not gotten super bowl. Type play from the quarterback and it goes back to andrew luck retiring. This is a team that was built to win the super bowl andrew lock it was built to compete with carson wentz this year and this is the third significant injury of course. What's his nfl career. And that's problematic and you hope he can be back and they do think he'll be back at some point here but this is got to be a blow for a team that won't have the quarterback at the very least going through drills with new teammates getting used to each other this summer right and a quarterback that has to get that confidence back in order to play like a couple years back. We'll see all right. It's been a dramatic off season for aaron rodgers and the packers culminating in rogers surprised returned to training camp last week. So rogers backers agreed to a rework deal and over the weekend..

"Play the best game in the history. Philadelphia's or in the most important game in the city's history it's that simple you know moving on from falls at the time. It was a decision to see what we had him when she looked unbelievable. Point seventeen showed promise in two thousand sixteen But he you've just never the same. After the i'm reading you know gerda taking a lot of things we talked about over the years but it's the off season and it's relevant here and foles would have been the gotta keep going obviously hasn't really had any success. Elsewhere really hasn't ended in success elsewhere. Outside of no big stretching twenty-third scene and then four playoff games off your they won and a couple of big regular season games and couple of stingers really played really well in that giant's game in twenty seventeen. I believe that was the first game he started. Following wednesday's injury. I think he threw four touchdown passes and then one of the best games ever seen eagles iraq play threw for four hundred. Seventy one yard which i believe. That's the total his eagles record for a single game in week. Sixteen against the texans ailing financial field. One thirty two thirty on a jake elliott walk golf field. The false not in philadelphia is not a starting quarterback. I believe he's third the jet shot in chicago. Ima never start a quarter. He may never started game again. And the nfl. That doesn't mean he's not a philadelphia eagles. He will go down in history as one of the most important figures and they have not just sports philadelphia because of that's how big the eagles aren't felt and eventually whether people will want to mit or they don't like it or they think it's unfair to enough people. Were talking about doing this. What i'm gonna say. It was unfair to arsons mic. Foles number needs to give retired in philadelphia. And i think it will be handed out since and the eagles have a history of keeping numbers out of the rotation rain cunningham's numbers officially retired. But it hasn't been handed out since he left team stuff like that. So i think for big no see foles number out of the rotation but once he's officially retired it's gonna be once. He's officially retired as a player. It will eventually become officially retired for the eagles. I think it'd be insane not to have a great thing. Come in and you know. Celebrate the team. Maybe it's twenty twenty seven. Maybe fold retires next two three years and you do it for the tenth anniversary of the twenty seventeen sees maria do it for twenty thirty. Two for the fifty. Th anniversary of this season something like that and people were saying time. Well it wasn't fair to you can't retire foles number. What wentz Why not who cares. He didn't play the superbowl foles data and it was unbelievable but now that carson wentz has gone whence had a terrible injury. Injuries coddled up. Never really the same player after that injury. As as we've seen over the last couple years and it's not his fault. That nick foles became a god-like figure in philadelphia. But it happens tonight. Think it's easier for the team kind of celebrate those full specific moments a little bit more now that they don't have to worry about the carson affect and the way that the super bowl you know. He's a human being. I'm very critical of carson. I have been for the entirety of last season. This offseason was itching for trade to happen. Heart situation right. You were the king of the city. Your backup comes in and sweeps the city off. Its feet away. They could never expected has legendary performances and goes down and the history elsia and then kind of thing the next year on another improbable playoff from. They didn't make the super bowl. you saying. Now the carson's gone we can rightly. Put nick foles place in treasury. I wasn't sure what they were going to do. For the new banner. I thought brian dawkins would have been a good idea in the sense..

There's no one clear elite guy in the class. And whether it's you know a russo or jalen phillips or og. Larry couple of other guys is basically pick your flavor. Whatever type of player. "Meanwhile the eagles bill their quarterback situation felt even more unsettled than miami's. Who's getting of confidence there. It's jalen hurts right. I mean their own second year quarterback is really entrenched now as the starter in twenty twenty one and there presumably not going to go after a quarterback at twelve so hurts will get the twenty twenty one season to prove his mettle as starter while the eagles will many as three first round picks and twenty twenty two depending on. "Philly eagles and seahawks and birds and other birds only one type heading south carson wentz again trying to prove a starter status again coming up short another interception adding to his league-leading totally was also six. Times is back backup. Jalen hurts saw just to blaze last night. We'll have much more on him in just a second but first eagles get the win. Here's carson winston after last night's loss to seattle. There's been a lot of talk and speculation. You possibly getting benched or something like that. I mean does that way on you at all. Do you think about that at all. And that occurred during the game. Any of that. Come up. i mean. I said that last week you know this is what you sign up for as a quarterback <hes> member. Since you're a kid you know you're prepared for for any of those nothing's ever guaranteed and so for me i. I don't think about that though. I just try and go out and be the best player. I can be in practice. Prepare my tail off. Compete my tail off and <hes>. You know hopefully we can get this thing turned around but <hes>. I think about those things. I might give it everything i got every time i step on the field. I think i said the eagles went. Obviously the seahawks won there and carson wentz with the barrage of questions about his plane time plane status plane brandon start with you did carson wentz play well enough to keep his starting job moving forward. Well i mean i hell. Mary was nice. i mean how. How often do we see that at all. He but outside of that. Mary no he. He didn't play well. The coaches the coach. Well defense didn't play well enough. This is one of those years. Nick where everybody needs to be on notice when you play like this and miss division everyone should be on notice and then you can go back to last couple years outside of their super bowl. Run it's always been a struggle for this organization. If i'm the owner. I am looking at everything. I'm looking at the general managers there's other gaps. There's other holes on this team is not just carson wentz. it's also the linebacking core and it's not that the linebacking core isn't playing. Well they're just not very good they don't have any debt so with that mind like you gotta talk about. Who's making those decisions. And you got to hold them accountable. So this entire organization. Mic should be on notice at listen. I think might garafolo is the one who reported this morning that he can no longer report. That doug peterson is totally save. Despite being just three years removed from actually winning a super bowl something carson wentz is not able to say. He did what that means for our rose. One of the front office will see. And you're right brandon. This is a team that has a multitude of issues but their biggest issue is this in twenty twenty the worst starting quarterback in football now. That's not a statement of opinion. That's just if according to the numbers we can show them. The worst fulltime starting quarterback in the nfl is carson wentz and the spat back that up one hundred percent. He's thirty fifth worse in everything. And there's only thirty two teams folks and he is a turnover machine he runs into sacks he doesn't make the big throws anymore. There's been one game all year long that he didn't turn the ball over and in that game. He fumbled twice. They just happened to recover them so it does feel however wildlife carson wentz might be the one with the most job security because of the contract. He's been signed to based on performance. You have a twenty eight a guy that's going to be twenty eight this month. He's in year five and he's playing the worst football of his career. That is more than a sign for his future. But do you think that's all of his fault nick. Because morning i wake up. And i make a little menu and i called my my kitchen. Where do my work hot take cafe and on today's menu. Here's what we had. You can make your choice. Everyone you can have bad coaching with a side of bad. Play design you can have bad decision. Making with a side of bad throws you could have bad wide receivers and bad protection. Those your options at the take cafe for me. I want went bad protection. I went with the six acts. We're not his fault. The league leading forty six x also. Not his fault he also had some throwaways there and i was watching the game last night neck and i was like oh the one when he was chased out of the pocket to avoid an intentional grounding. He threw it to the first down. Even though it came up short i was like. Oh that's a. That's a good play. That's a quarterback you can build around. I'm like what what is happening. I'm calling a throw to save even intentional grounding a good play and he could say like. I don't put it on the offensive line. Louis riddick mentioned it last night when they went to the super bowl best offensive line surprise surprise. Takeout carson wentz put. Nick foles doesn't matter to me. It starts with the offensive line. I know there's a lot of side dishes but it's an offensive line thing for me.

"Year. But one hundred percent covid-19. The basic fundamentals of football and that's why the Cowboys defense has been so so bad against the Run. Now so the Eagles beat the Cowboys and it wasn't really pretty they're actually losing 9 to 7 and half time. But against Dallas Carson Wentz had four turnovers two fumbles and two And a lot of lessons can be learned from Carson Wentz failures. The biggest lesson in my opinion is basically that Carson Wentz is trying to do way too much. He's trying to be Superman song and the Eagles have been hit by a ton of injuries. You know, I think Carson Wentz is trying to compensate to make up for it. You know, okay, we may not have the guy we need there and there and there but I'm going to put the trash my back and carry us to compensate for all the losses. He's holding onto the ball way too long. He's making risky throws. He's forcing throws into coverage and I often relate playing quarterback to being a race car driver do that all the time. And you know the offense and the system the play-calling I call that the race car and therefore the quarterback is the driver. And the problem is right. Now the Eagles offense is not a sports car. They're more like an old beat-up junker car so you can have a race car driver, but he's driving a horrible car. That's not actually a race cars. And Carson Wentz hates losing his very very competitive and his fear is that if I just do my job and do it. Normally I'm not going to able to help my team enough to win football games. And so Carson's competitive nature is part of the problem right now in Philadelphia, but Carson needs to realize you can't add two and be part of the Eagles problems on offense. Okay, you're missing a guy you're he ran the route. He this he did that seat of that. You can't compound a mistake with your own mistake and add to the problem. So Carson Wentz just needs to execute and do his job. Do your job execute the offense. I would say drive the car down the road your job as a quarterback. You're you're in charge of this really you're driving this incredible nice sports car club drive the car down the road do the little things execute. But the problem is Carson doesn't trust anybody around him and he doesn't trust the system run doesn't trust the play-calling and so of course and whence ever gets benched two things will have happened. Number one..

"But they are class a all the way they really are. And if they asked you to see identification, they had a good reason to. So I just wanna put that out there. Not to indict Masai any further than he's already been implicated or anything like that. But it's just a point out that these guys in Oakland, they usually don't have any trouble. They really don't. They usually don't have any trouble. They do a great job. You really do. Let me get to another subject before I get to the calls because I got into a discussion today and somewhat of a beef with my buddy markets, be is on the situation evolve in Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott contract can I say this? The regulators are gentlemen, this notion about costs and Winston serving to be paid more than that Prescott 'cause Dak Prescott doesn't have a new contract yet, but somehow someway costing wins gets a hundred seven million guaranteed. Oh, by the way, it was two months after Russell Wilson. Got a four year one hundred and forty million dollar guarantee contract with one hundred seven million guaranteed. But Carson Wentz you're talking about Russell Wilson. Now's the two time SuperBowl wants to Super Bowls. And as an. Super Bowl champion want. One Super Bowl title went to back to back Super Bowls. And has been a model of professionalism and class and has religiously been one of the top five quarterbacks as far as I'm concerned in the National Football League for the most part over the last several years, he gets a four year one hundred forty million dollar deal with one hundred seven million guaranteed. But then here comes costed wits who can bowl, by the way, who can really play and I like costume wins. But you give him the same amount and guaranteed dollars and a man of even played in a playoff game. I don't know about job. But I find that more to be than subliminal with that message. Same exact hours guaranteed as Russell Wilson. Nobody got a problem with that. Nobody has brought couldn't even be one hundred six John couldn't even guarantee cost one hundred six million hundred five oh no it had to be the exact same amount. As what's the Wilson. Million to two resumes. But it had to be the same exact amount. I wonder why that is. I wonder why that is. I go say it. I'm not gonna say leave it to y'all of figure that exact same amount of guarantee dollars. I know cost upside is great, if you could stay healthy. I know costume Winston ball. I know he's no scrub and are to have been on the record saying the Philadelphia Eagles absolutely, positively should going, Nick foles and place your faith that cost and west because you couldn't keep both quarterbacks. Not as competitive, they are monetarily. You could have made it work potentially, but you couldn't keep both from a competitive perspective. Now with Nick star shining, Nick foles star shining. He won a Super Bowl championship, then he came back to very next year. When Carson and Wentz Carson Wentz was five and six and his thoughts and Nick foles wanna last four games. Got him to play a victory over this cargo babes with Khalil Mack and the crew. I understand you could've keep both. I understand you it costs in with a new contract. You didn't have to you. Did it early? You can awaited of the year. Hey, wait a longer than that. But that's not even my faith. My beef is you had to make sure you gave him the same amount as Russell Wilson. You could've give them a penny less a dollar less. A million a million less. You couldn't do that. You had to sit there and give them the same amount as Russell. What's what you're trying to say which are trying to say NFL culture, which you're trying to say? Russell Wilson with all he's done and two months after he deals..

"And then late in the season. You fracture your back. Somehow, I think people just want people to take all of that into consideration. When they think about Carson Wentz. Also, you know, he's dealing with his back injury. Isn't that a possible that that's affecting his mood? I mean he's back fracture. And you know, he's coming off this long season of rehab. I would in addition to all the stuff we talked about with falls know that like maybe he just physically wasn't feeling good which is impacting how he fell emotionally and kinda maybe made him were Callus or controlling or whatever to the come off that way in the locker room and around the team. So I think that's something to consider as well. And yeah, I mean, I I just really believe there's every reason to believe that the aero still very much pointing up on Carson Wentz in his career in having this full off-season of being able to get healthy. And by the way, that's kind of a big report that haven't really been talking about as much that Adam Schefter over the weekend. So that arson wins is going to be ready for the spring workouts, which great surprising me in. That follows the time line because Doug had said, you know, the back injury should take about three months to recover from that was back in December. So and able the workouts beginning April, so it's not surprising. But still good to hear on the less. You know, there's no kind of setback. Everything's going as planned. It's good to hear. And to me that's exciting because arsons gonna get in. There is going to be able to work on his game. Or while you're not working on the field right away in those workout you're at working out in the locker room. He's going to be able to strength train and to Djilas and all that and eventually ramp his way up as you said about, you know, with your new cycle there. He's going to be able to ramp his way up into the season. And that'll be really nice. I think to have and to not have to deal the whole off-season of being asked about his rehab or a whole offseason of being asked about what's like the dynamic with you. And Nick foles like it's all just focusing on to us nineteen which is a huge season for him. Like, he can just spend all the time focusing on that now, and I think that will be very good for him. No doubt about it lasting about the quarterback situation. When we're talking about Nick foles saw report this week Beal g that there's a potential scenario in which the eagles might be able to trade Nick foles without having to give him the franchise tag. Can you unpack that I think we've kinda hinted at this to just it all hinges on foles eagles working together, which I don't think it's impossible because I think it's foles doesn't necessarily the eagles anything. But I mean, the the the ultimate drafted him. The took another chance on him. You know, there might be some kind of loyalty there in some respect. And you know, they they didn't have to adjust his contract last last season, by the way. No one was making them. You know, they they were not obligated to do that. They just give him a million dollars for even just short of an incentive. So I mean, you know, there's some reason to believe that now in general, I think, you know, he doesn't know the team anything bum to saying there's some reason to believe that could be possible where the team in him basically worked together, and it's complicated. So I don't think it's the likely option because you have to it's always complicated when you're trying to to kind of do that thing where you get the player involved because then you know, it's them having to be okay with the destination. And then both teams need to agree to trade compensation than that player..

"Because I tweeted out how I thought the shrine was ridiculous. And how I was Carson Wentz. I would've rubbed me the wrong way. And I did hear from I did hear from a couple of people who are who know Carson Wentz a little bit. You're familiar with the people around the league who people would know who were telling me, I wasn't wrong, you know. And Chris longed tweeted out a response of the of the the white guy would doing the slow. Blink got a million likes. And I basically had to jump off Twitter for about twelve hours. But I think that there was something to that. That's why that's why it rubbed me the wrong way. Because if I was Carson Wentz for exactly the reasons that you just mentioned, it's it would have made me, it would've rubbed me the wrong way. Because this last year was supposed to be Carson's year to do it, and it really not through because it's Nick foles, but it got taken away from. Yeah. And just think about how much easier Nick foles has it than Carson Wentz in the sense of. Of like, Nick, foles fails. There's it's like, okay. So what he's the backup? You know? What I mean, there's no expectation. Oh, these columns he follows a total failure. I know. I guess that's not like that's part of what being the backup quarterback. Like is the luxury that comes with that? It's always, you know, the cliche is that they're the most popular like play on the team or whatever, you know, because there's no pressure with them. And with Carson. It's the exact opposite traded up a lot of draft capital gets number to get this guy from the jump. There have always been expectations on the sky like, well, he better be worth it. You know what I mean? So that that pressure is always been on him. And now, it's even more because in the end even admitted to it he admitted to it in the locker room after the season about how Nick foles having the success. He did kinda puts more pressure on Carson. And it's because now he has to emerge from that shadow of Nick foles, Indiana, you know, separate himself and. I just think that's tough. And maybe some of what was in that story. And by the way, as I said on the Monday podcast. I know Joe he's not making that stuff up. I I would hope that people can realize just because it's anonymous sources, and I think people don't really understand how that works. And maybe that's just because you know, they're not now saying, I'm some journalism expert. I'm not I didn't go to school for that. That's not my I'm not trying to say Saint up here on the platform and say, I know more than you buy to sing when you're when people are saying that like anonymous sources are just like fake or they're not legit. Like, that's not how it works. It's the I see a lot of people who are like name your sources, it doesn't work that way guys. Like, no one's ever going to say anything if that's going to be the process. So listen, I have a degree in journalism. You know, my fulltime you buy fulltime job as a journalist. So you're one hundred percent, correct. Come on. That's not. That's not what we need to be worrying about here. So it's it's not fake. It's not. I'm sorry. It's not Joe did not make stuff up. He didn't. Now, you can talk about framing and perspective. And I as I said on the Monday podcast. I think there were some issues in that regard in the framing and the and just the overall perspective on this. And that brings me to my point here. John, and I kind of want to ask you, the unskilled one to ten how much do you think the story actually matters with ten being the most important and one not at all? I wanna hear your opinion on it. At this point. It's it's a three for me. Okay. Good. I just feel like it could feel like could grow into a bigger story. If if it if there aren't chain Carson Wentz doesn't hear some of this stuff..

"Brandon league out. And Beal g hey, film, buddy. John doing? Okay. Do I have a lot of stinking juice? I don't know if I would say that. Stink in juice every week, my friend. Thank you, buddy. So let's do it. Yeah. Let's get into the stink and Jews, and we're going to get into some some some we're going to basically ridicule. The saints fans for good portion of the podcast here today, which I think everybody is on board with we'll talk about some early thoughts about the Super Bowl and about last week's games and in the conference championship games a little bit. We'll take a look at what the eagles could do at running back coming up here in two thousand nineteen but we're going to start off the show talking about the quarterback situation. And of course, we're not gonna dig deep into the into the Philly voice. Carson Wentz story because brand new really detailed. I think all the finer points of that story on Monday with our emergency podcast. But obviously a few days have gone since since you recorded that episode. I think we've seen some more teammates chime in in support of Carson Wentz. I do find it interesting. We haven't heard from Nick foles at all yet. But I don't. Remote reading into anything there. You know? It's just possible. He doesn't feel comfortable commenting on something like this. But it is interesting as you mentioned who has chimed in and who who has not chimed in so far. I don't know that it means anything, but I think universally what we're seeing here is that the story in the Philly voice may have been a framed in a certain way that may have been anti Carson Wentz. But from where I sit anyway Beal g there are some slivers shades of truth in the story. And I think those are the things that we we really shouldn't gloss over. But one of the one of the people that had something to say was last year's offensive coordinator Frank Reich, and you mentioned the quote that he said earlier today this guy talking about Carson Wentz has so much stinking juice, which is just Jew, which is the best quote. We've heard about Carson Wentz so far. But just now that if you days have gone by any additional thoughts on on the Philly voice article. And Carson Wentz do actually just thinking about things. More starting with that Frank Reich, quote, I think one thing that might be important to note here is that. Reading the story in kind of processing it more in talking to people more. It sounds like Carson was almost a little bit different last year this past season two thousand eighteen so, you know, I don't know even if Frank Reich necessarily has the best evaluation. No of what happened this past year. Now that I'm saying anything he said is false. I'm descending. I think that might be something we we might be overlooking just how hard it was on Carson in two thousand eighteen to you know, have the amazing season in two thousand in seventeen be like the MVP of the league. And all the sudden you're like chopped liver because everyone loves make false, and you're kind of an afterthought, and I guess for us on the outside looking in. It's really easy to kinda despite pass that and be like, oh that doesn't really matter. Not a factor. Then another whole thing to to be Carson Wentz into feel that and I think we'll be g can I'm sorry. I to go in. That's why I made. That's why made such a big stink. About the shrine the whole shrine, and I got I got some heat online about that..

"A bombshell report came out this week calling future of the franchise Carson Wentz both egotistical and selfish cited anonymous players a number of his teammates have since come out and defending. Their quarterback yesterday. It was Jason Kelsey spoke out ripped the report saying I go to war any day of the week and twice on Sunday. With guys like Carson Wentz Markle was your reaction to this Maria should somebody. You know, there's somebody within the organization that's disgruntled. It's kind of like you talked about Colby's Lee. You know, it's always somebody else's fault. Corson wants having met with the eagles having met with Carson once and just watched those guys rally around him a year ago. I did eagles game with Carson once they absolutely love that guy for the majority of that team. They love that guy. And that guy's an unselfish football player that puts the team first. So I don't know what you would like I heard talking about this yesterday. And you know, it's a disgruntled wide receiver. That's not getting his shine that he thinks he should get or because Nick foles comes in and distributes the ball little bit differently than Carson Wentz. Does your mad about that? But the bottom line is. I think the guys who have stood up guys who come to the fore for. The guys who aren't cowards that leave things in ass-. You know, the guys who have come to rally round Carson Wentz. Those guys that I would put more Meriden those guys trust more. There's a number of things coming out of this report that I don't like does the reporter have plenty of time to build ask questions. He could've went to all the press conference. He could a question Carson Wentz. There's a number things he could have done to validate. This report that he decided not to do. So I know my I don't have a school named after me as far as broadcasting journalism, but just some of the basics as far as following a getting someone to be able to go on the record those things would have helped his credibility. Now. I am a person that will have X teammate say some of the same thing. They said about Carson Wentz. Oh, he's selfish. You damn right. I'm you'd better be selfish to be a good football player. You have to be selfish. You can be selfish within the team concept. But you've got gotta get yourself ready. No one else is getting you ready. So I do believe there's a great deal. Of selfishness that you have to take into being a great team was it about ego. No, it wasn't about ego. But anytime, you're good at something. And you have confidence, you know, what people say, oh, he's got an ego. Well, tell me who you know, does not have an ego. So I'm not necessarily believing in the reports anonymously players and everything I believe there was one right? We why receiver that might have a problem with it are two that's the way they go. I believe the eagles. Biggest problems their offense coordinator, I believe that might grow. We don't know if he is cut out for this. So even guys can plane is basically the backlash of losing your quarterback coach Frank, right, and John D Felipo you lost both him. And then you bring in someone who's never called plays in in a fail. They're always typically been problems. And I think that's more of the problem in Philadelphia now than Carson and one of the other things in this report was that once def- elite bow and Reich went out the building Carson was able to kind of run. On over might grow. Which speaks to seize point. I I think this actually can be a positive moment for the eagles. Because there's so much noise surrounding foles and Wentz foles is going to almost surely be on a different team here. Now, they have a rallying point around their quarterback. You have the leaders of the team Fletcher, Cox lane Johnson gyp, Jason Kelsey, some of those prominent most established most respected guys on the team going on the record saying, this is our guy, and the other reason I think it can be a positive is even in criticism that you think is unfair even in anonymous criticism. I think you can have a moment of introspection saying how much of that is true the person that's that. I carry myself like I've won multiple Super Bowls, and I wanna playoff game, even if it's mostly unfair. But how I carry myself this report, wait a second way..

"On Monday. January twenty first we still haven't heard from al-sham Jeffrey or Nelson, Azure, or really any of the current receivers on the team or any of the running backs on the team. So is that meaningful is not. I don't know. But I think that's something to maybe consider when you're looking at where this report could be coming from who's unhappy with Carson wins. And again, just something to think about so what does this all mean? Ultimately, is it a good thing? I think if you want to spend it that way could be could be that Carson Wentz sees this criticism from his teammates he realizes he could be doing something better. So that this kind of situation doesn't happen on the flip side it could just anger Carson Wentz. And he could feel like he doesn't trust his teammates. And then create some kind of riff from the locker rooms that would certainly not be a good thing. But in Joe's reporting on the Philly voice, it even said that some players, you know, again did want this to kinda get out in a way where I think maybe they felt like they couldn't talk to Carson Wentz directly, which is kind of sad and annoying. But maybe they were kind of afraid of the repercussions of it that if they did talk to him they would kind of see even less playing time or they would get cut or something. So that's not a good thing. But ultimately again, if you're being the optimist if. You're being hopeful about this. And and hoping for the best for both Carson Wentz. And the team in those two things certainly seem to be connected that Carson Wentz can learn from this criticism that's out there and hopefully apply it to the future. And again when I'm talking about that maturity and the composure and just you know, how he is perceived. I think maybe there is some kind of learning listen to be had here. If this information is true or not I think it kind of gives Carson an opportunity to self reflect and ask himself like is he doing the best he can to kind of, you know, be the best teammate and be the best quarterback and do everything he can does he need to yield some of his control in some certain certain situations. That's not to say, you should never be aggressive and to never speak up, and basically like Jared Goff and just have your coach, you know, call all the plays for you. And your kind of just through dummy nothing has to be to that extreme. But I think it can be where you know, there could be some better communication on both sides about what players, and what the coaches want, and what's expected and just more open, honest dialogue where both sides can kind of rectify things. And it doesn't have to come to a boiling point where it comes out in the media like you has clearly to this point. So that's the hope that's what you're hoping for in the situation. And maybe that's unrealistic. Because maybe Carson Lynch, you know, I think it's fair to say, we all know he is a strong personality. I don't know. It's completely fair to to use the words and kind of paint it out as wasn't this report. But it was so some people some sources clearly feel that way. And that's. How it is. So now, what does this mean for the eagles? What does this mean for the future? I think that's kind of what where my mind always goes to the what's the what's the bottom line here. What does this really impact? And to me, it doesn't take much because what changes all of a sudden like are the moving on from Carson Wentz where he talked about it. No, they're not does it make them hesitant to give him a contract extension this off season..

"I think all I did a good job of kind of breaking down the running different offense who had Nick foles. And I think that's something that gets talked about in this Philly voice report, how it was a different offense and some players some sources felt like I don't know if they're players, but some sources felt like offense was being run with through Nick foles as opposed to you know, Nichols. Having all this control over it. Like Carson Wentz had wanted to have control over it. Now, one of the things in that report that I thought was kind of unfair was about how it said every time Carson Wentz would have input there'd be an interception or a sack and every time. He just followed. What the coaches do it always worked out? I mean, that's kind of just that's a little pretty unfair to me that to say into suggest that like Carson Wentz was just the the bad guy, and the coaches were fine. And I don't know does that. Kind of give you. Perspective or information on who the sources could be. If it's saying the coaches, we're never to blame. I don't know just kind of thinking out loud here. It's a lot of this podcast is about just giving you some my thoughts on the situation. But obviously we've heard some rebuttal on this Carson Wentz. Scathing report that came out from some of his teammates, we saw Fletcher Cox immediately jump out to his defense. Now, I think it's a little interesting or it's no it's worth noting Frederick is in those offense of meetings. Sees he's a defensive captain. And he's a clearly one of the best players on the team. So I'm not saying is word means nothing here. I'm just saying you have to consider that. But then Bernie Brookes who is on the side of the ball, certainly came out and support, of course, when sodas Zakar it's so did lane Johnson so to Torrey Smith who's no longer on the team, but certainly in the wide receiver room last year sort of Nate Sud Velde who works in the same quarterback room. With Carson Wentz and shoot. Obviously have a good feel for him given the amount of time. They spend together and decent. Kelsey also gave a lengthy statement. Those are all up on bleeding greenish dot com. If you want to read them, so we're seeing players support. Carson Winston, look, it's obviously not like they're going to come out and say, you know, all the report is true in rip him like death never going to happen. So what makes it interesting to me? Then is an might be more telling is who hasn't spoken out and favor of Carson Wentz. And as I am recording this on three oh two pm.

"Up the put up a hard fight against the saints. But ultimately, they fell short, and we all know the restrictions along the way in the two thousand eighteen season. So it's only natural that these kind of things are going to come out. I think that's something you have to consider. I don't think it's like, you know, the eagles are the only dysfunctional team in the NFL if you're framing it that way. It's just not the case also think that arson wins certainly isn't Hilmi quarterback in the NFL who's ever had a story. Like this written about them. I'm sure you can find already mentioned the Tom Brady thing. I'm sure you can find ones for Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers and number of quarterbacks in this league. I think you can always spin certain qualities as positive or negative. You could say Carson Wentz is a control freak he wants to control everything or you could say Carson Wentz. You know, has a strong ideas about what he wants to do and he wants to be involved. So it's all about how you frame things. And how you spin it as well. So I think it's always the point being there. Why I'm saying this is it's important to consider biases in perspective on both sides on all sides into knowledge. Those and to kinda, you know, just so we're we're being fair inaccurate all around so. Another thing. I wanna say coming out of all this is that none of this changes. Carson Wentz is standing in my opinion with the franchise. I mean Doug Peterson said it last week that he is the team's franchise quarterback. Just because report this comes out does not mean all of a sudden the user keeping Nick foles and getting ready Carson Wentz. That is not what's going to happen here. It's just not the if these issues in the story did exist do exist. I'm sure that you have to have some level of awareness about them. And I think they would know that before they would come out and say Carson Wentz is their franchise quarterback. So just wanted to say it, I don't think really anyone is doubting that. But in case, you are it doesn't really change anything in that perspective that arsons is this team funk term enter now. Because that very fact is true. I also think it's important to note that Carson Wentz not some bum. I I don't know why. I mean, I guess I do know why? And it's because. Nick foles has success. And Carson Wentz had some struggles. All the sudden Carson Wentz sucks. But I think people have been way too hard on Carson as a player. Let's leave the off the field stuff aside. Just for a second talking about Carson Wentz the player, and this is something I had talked about in BGN radio episode thirty two John Stolnis that I just feel like Carson went to gain too much hate, you know, you look at how he had a better passer rating then Jared Goff Tom Brady, both those bags are in the Super Bowl this year, by the way, Andrew luck Dak Prescott Aaron Rodgers two thousand eighteen among other players. And I'm not saying passer rating is the perfect stat. I think a big issue with it. In fact, wins is it doesn't account for fumbles which have been an issue for him. But the point is that you can't have a better passer rating than all those guys and be a complete bum. You just not how it works. I know Carson was not perfect in two thousand eighteen and you have to consider by the way, not only did he have. A better pass ratings than all those guys. But he was also doing it with a fracture in his back and coming off two major injuries in his knee with a tornado CEO and a tour Elsie. Oh, so I think it's just important to put all the context and now to be fair to Joe and his story from Philly voice. They knowledge all that. So they included that in there. But I just felt the need to reiterate it because I think people are a little bit two months down on Carson Wentz. And that's part of why the story from the Phillies is frustrating as an eagles fan as a went Carson Wentz supporter because it just feels like it's more ammo for the people who are kind of being a little bit unfair to him..

"Get a couple of things done on bleeding nation dot com. But no that was not the case. Instead, we all woke up to the bombshell of report that came out from Philly voice by Joe Santa Quito about how Carson Wentz is quote unquote, selfish uncompromising playing for Ritz. Among other unpleasant kind of adjectives described his way. And there's a lot to talk about. I know some people might not even want us to address this report. But when it's being talked about as much as it is. And it involves the team's franchise quarterback. I mean, we have to it's a really big story. It's a really big topic. Whether you want to believe it or not we can get into that more on this episode. It's a big deal, and I wanna start off here by saying that I know the author of the story I know Joseph into liquid. Oh, he is credentialed. Eagles media member. I've known him for several years now, I think about five or six so I've known him for quite a bit. Have we could idea of who Joe is and based on his track record base my experiences with him. And again, I sit next to him in the press box at Lincoln financial field. So I do interact with Joe is that he's not make. The story up. If you're out there thinking that all this is just complete fiction the media's making things up. It's all fabricated. None of it's true. I think you're mistaken. I I don't think you can easily write it off like that and say there is zero truth to what is being reported here in the Philly voice report. Now with that said that does not mean I'm saying that everything there is true. I think while I respect this report by Joe, I think some things might lack context. And I think there, you know, I think there could be a better way. Maybe presenting all the information from all sides in the story that otherwise kinda makes things a little bit harsh on Carson. But look ultimately Joe heard what he heard from his sources, which I believed to be very legitimate. And he pub he published what he heard in what he had. The information. He had gathered over time from talking to both sources on the team eagles players. I'm sure or or whoever his sources were inside the organization, I don't know and some sources from the NFL who were described as NFL sources, I'm assuming maybe not on the team. I don't know again. I'm just going off of what's in the story here. So we have a lot to talk about because this report is a big deal again. Even if you think it's nothing thing it's about Carson Wentz. We at least have to talk about it and give our thoughts on it. So I'm here to do that. And with the whole thing about, you know, knowing Joe at of the way, I think it's important to consider in. This report any reporting really sources are always going to have jenness. So when you hear a source say something about someone, and it's not always flattering, you know, they might have an extra grind. And that's understandable. When teams. In players are in situations where not everyone is having the most success. And there are some struggles you're going to see some cracks. It's just kind of inevitable. I mean, even teams that win a lot. They have struggles to with this. I mean, we just saw the New England Patriots. Last year have story written about them on ESPN one month before they played in the Super Bowl about how there was a lot of dysfunction in that organization and how Tom Brady and Bill Belichick weren't getting along. And there was arguing over who gets credit for what I mean. This is a high pressure business there high stakes. I know it's kind of silly. It's only sports, right? But you know, there's a lot of money, and there's a lot of pride and ego and all that stuff on the line here. So you're going to see these reports come out whenever there are struggles. And look the eagles struggled in two thousand eighteen they obviously they didn't win the Super Bowl. The they finished the season strong. They made it to the divisional round. And they give..

"We have a chance at getting back. We had the we have to take advantage of. So here's thing. We know Carson Wentz is implying this week. We know that the only way there's another game is if they go to Chicago and beat the best defense. In the NFL certainly the best defense in the NFC in the bears a tough row in a row environment biggest underdogs of the weekend. So of course, you're not. Then if they do have another game binging Nick foles would've been won four in a row would have been won seven consecutive elimination games. Dating back to last season. What I want to ask you is this though, how many health are does foles have to take this to change the conversation. But who the future is like what does Nichols need to do? Is there anything he can do? And what is this postseason to where this off season when they're starring a twenty million dollar Nichols option that instead of declining that option letting him go elsewhere, they pick up the option, and they feel phone calls on Carson Wentz, am I paying I still think Carson is a future. No matter how well new polls plays. But if Mick pose goes out and wins another Super Bowl, then the conversation changes. So it has to be winning one of the gets you to get you to the chat thing ship game. I think that may be the point as well. It makes you get them to to that Super Bowl. Game. Then that conversation changes in it may be that you trade Carson, even if you trade sign and trade nickel lot of different things going on there. But you have to have that conversation. If he gets you to that game. I think it's I really think for eagles fans. This is simple. And for Carson Wentz. By the way. I would not wanna get put back in this lineup because you are going to be a six point underdog this week. If you win this week, you're going to be an even bigger under the following week. What you think they are going to lose this week or the next week into the saints? I think those are better teams they're up against and it's on the road. I don't think this eagles would have gone to the super last year as the six seed having to play road playoff games. I think if you're Carson went to the worst thing that can happen to you is Nick foles beats the bears. And then you get your job back. You get your head kicked him by the saints. And everyone's blaming you you need for the city and the fans to see Nichols lose a playoff game. I think if Nick foles kits to the Super Bowl, then you have to have a real conversation. Anything? Short of that, you're going to go with the bigger stronger faster more talented number two overall pick who's also, by the way cheaper. He has that going for him as well because someone's rookie. That's the reason why I don't think if you win this football game against bears and then have to go to New Orleans. That's the reason why you can't go back to Carson. You don't want to put that type of pressure on this young, man. That's also the same reason why you can't bring Nick foles back next year. You don't want that guy sitting on the bench when things go wrong for Carson fans cheering Nick foles? Nick foles getting back in the game. You don't want that type of pressure for your young future of your franchise type of quarterback right now saying it's got to be Carson Wentz. I think everyone agrees that that Nick foles should play this Chicago game. I think everyone agrees play the hot hand right now because they saw what plane the hot handed last year..
