"That I got a rough. I had a decent lie ahead nine iron and we knew that anything less dependent was was going to be a bogey and so we were kind of looking right center right edge of the green knowing that right was going to be fine to that Pinata. Easy up now but doable. So when I hit the shot I was leaning. It came out of hair right. I knew it was gonNA close. And because the Greens elevated we can't see and so you're relying on the crowd today where the ball is and the crowd. Kinda made this weird like mode of noise and I looked at fall. I'm like WHOA. What does that mean if they if they're like upset the crowd they'll let you know it probably wouldn't the bunker or the clap. It's only green but this this reaction we had no idea so we get up there and US. Open's they take all the sprinkler heads around the green. They cut out ASTROTURF and put it over it. Normally but this one was an old sprinkler head that just remained grass. They had removed. The plastic tried to get a ruling to to say. Hey because this is an old sprinkler had do I get relief and he said no so I had to play it And Chris this is actually funny. Nobody knows this unless you've played Olympic but when I go walk around the pin to look Kinda. Just assess my chip. I noticed that if I had this chip about ten feet too hard and less of the pin. There's this little area of fringe fairway. That will take the ball thirty to forty yards down the hill and so unlike holy cow so all that maybe do his aim a little further. Right is a right to left chip. The lie was funky. I didn't really know how to hit it asfaw. So what do you think I need to do here? He basically said just hinging unhinged really fast snowfall through just kind of chuck shot. And that's what I did. I was hoping for eight feet and it came out and it was just one of those it comes out and you know it's going to be pretty good and went down to about four feet and My mind wandered a little bit where it shouldn't have you know. I'm waiting for Nicholas Cole. Starts to put out but I kind of got control of my mind in the toll myself. Hey read this pot aim this. Putt started online. Just like you have been all week. Is this another four footer? And that really helped me. Kind of regained focus. It was left edge pot and when it went in it was a big sigh of relief. But I I knew I still had twenty minutes to wait for the guys behind me. you're looking back at those highlights. Your body type is a little different now than it was then what what happened like how did you. How did you what progress? Oh Man I yeah I was. I'm the same weight now but I think I look different in the house but that was my soft drink days. I used to drink a lot of soda like four or five day. No offense to the to the other soda manufacturers but that's that was the main contributor so yeah my face was a bit more round than and so you go That that I that win is going to help you get on the Ryder Cup team. Twenty twelve you guys come out and Medina you and Bob are paired up and those. I was their first couple of days man. That was just a clinic. I mean it was. You guys were killing it. It was so fun to watch do you. What what I meant to the twenty twelve Ryder Cup. Do you look back with fond memories of your first Ryder Cup and playing well or do you remember what happens on Sunday. Gosh I remember both. I mean it's a very of all. The team. Events outplayed is probably the most vivid team event. And you know it was eight years ago. Davis was an amazing captain. All Week we have Michael Jordan. Come in and give us a a Free Ryder Cup Bump speech which was amazing so we had a ten six a were feeling great. Were playing great. Our whole team is incredibly confident. when we go to bed. Saturday night and Davis. He did an amazing job even Saturday night. Short and sweet told us to keep doing what we're doing and you know he he sent out. I think he kinda frontloaded it in backloaded it and you know. He's Adam say before like he wishes he does stuff differently but I think he did as as best. He knew he could do in that moment and so it was humiliating. I think to lose a lead like that in my first Ryder Cup and honestly were justice sad after that. We didn't win for Davis as anything. Because he's a guy on tour that I think you could say this only about a few guys that everyone loves Davis and everyone's got huge respect for him his career. You name it and so that was hard but being my first Ryder Cup. I experienced things. I've never experienced the game of golf like the most nervous. You'll ever be as a golfer. I'm convinced isn't a Ryder Cup. But the most fun you'll ever have is a golfer. I think winning appointing the Ryder Cup. I mean it is so fun you winning it for your country and your team and worst cooled. Chris is like PJ tour players. Like everybody's got I don't WANNA say ego but everybody's got confidence like everybody walks rallies tournaments. They believe in themselves. That's probably why they made the Bj tour and that's great but these team events all that goes away in like you know everybody talks about you. Played routine play for your country play for each other. But it's Kinda cold experienced guys in the team environment because all that all the self accomplishments goes away for that few days of golf which is really fun to experience. That's interesting yeah. It's like yeah you you you can dominate each other. You know we can week out but now you owe it to the rest of the team to play what play golf this week. Kind of just humbles you at least a little bit does yeah you forget about yourself will on on a different topic here. I wanted to make sure we got to this because I know there's a lot to cover with it. But the the progress. The timeline of the of the anchorman and I WanNa know when you first heard rumblings when you what your reaction was when the ruling came out I personally. It's like the ball's going very very far in on this did not feel like a huge priority item Did you guys feel that there was a target on the back of guys that were anchoring or using a long putter and did you feel it was necessary kind of what was your initial reaction to it? Yeah I say goes that I felt like it was targeted because you get Keegan. Bradley winning the PGA Championship. And then I win the US Open. Ernie Els British open in out of Scotland's masters. Always those style plotters so I think we did feel like it was targeted. And we didn't tell you the evidence was there to support aband- because I think evidence would say if you look at the top thirty putters the PGA tour. How many guys whose potter and I don't even know if any of us were in the top thirty at the time. I don't know how it happened. My guests is the governing bodies. Got Together maybe. They didn't like that. These these types of putters. The house reason winning their terminus. Maybe they didn't like that you know we have seen that. I think that they can sometimes be old school in their thinking. Wanting the game to be the way it was twenty forty fifty years ago when the games evolving. I mean Jack Nicklaus. Nobody talks about this disappointed. Jack Nicklaus would have flown Ben Hogan by thirty arts And so Jack. Nicklaus's technology was a lot better than Ben Hogan's but I don't remember hearing problems then when he was playing dominating and so I just my whole think with these governing bodies is I want there to be more emphasis from PGA tour players enrolls officials when these decisions are being made. I really do. And I don't feel like our opinions have been validated by these governing. Bodies and our rules officials are seeing. Pga Tour tournaments forty five weeks a year and so they know better than anybody. What needs to be happening? And I don't feel like their voices loud enough to be honest. When did you start with the belly? Putter what what is it do for you I got? I've tried it. It does nothing for me but what it clearly does things for You know some some people and they they love it. What did it do for you? And how long did you use it? So I went to wake in. Four WORKFORCE FRESHMAN YEAR AND. I go to Pinehurst for Thanksgiving break. And I'm going out with my dad and at the time like I've grown up in great putter but I become a very streaky. Her and in the pro shop their country club in North Carolina Pine Her state of the team belly putter and putted. It's one of those little things that spits the ball back and unlike minister feels amazing. It feels awkward but like I like it and so I asked the guys at the shop said. Hey can I take this out for nine holes? They said sure why. Go out for nine holes and I I made everything and I ended up buying it and I went back to wake and honestly like my teammates. Kind of fun to me like. Why are you using a belly putter like it? Wasn't that common in. Oh four but I started putting a lot more consistently you know. I don't know how different it made my stroke. But for no other reason than became more confident I switched for good and then I use that same putter that I bought that pro shop for eleven years until it was banned. And you know I had anxiety in the past. I've struggled with that with putting and then when I switched the short putter. Which was I switched into fourteen so Ryder Cup. Twenty fourteen at Gleneagles were packing up our locker after we lost polly says. Hey we'RE GOING TO DUNLOP PHOENIX IN. A couple of weeks or whatever a couple of months in November. Why don't we go ahead and switch the short putter get a year under our belt? That way. We're not the focus. Come January warn twenty sixteen when it's GonNa become illegal and we just go ahead and start working with it not so great so done. Phoenix twenty fourteen with my first professional tournament. The short putter am I tournament. Short putter in like twelve years and so it was a struggle. I mean those first few months were pretty good but then it got bad and then I was one of the worst potters all the PGA tour for two years. Well what is the stroke? What's the struggle I mean? Are you just face path is it? Is it just a pure confidence issue? What does it what changes in you from the short butter? Well I think my stroke with a belly putter was naturally better whatever reason mechanically it just was better and so when I went to the short putter and putting got really bad. I realize okay. I don't know anything about putting like nothing about putting I'm going to become a student of putting shaw started talking to guys who putters Brandt badly Greg chalmers and I started trying to figure out what they do. Well and why do they do it because they I mean branch stroke looks a lot different batteries but they must do some things very similarly so I started learning..

"Your Golf Swing. It looks a little different than a lot of swings on tour. Your game is different onto. Is it self taught? I mean what what how did you? How did you learn the golf swing so I grew up having like not a lot of technical instruction in my golf swing like I had a longtime coach from my home club? Ted Kiko who was an amazing head pro. Great Teacher But I loved short game. I love to play so anytime I was practicing house short area like I just love shipping and so I think I developed like a lot of hands in my game. So that's why I think I've always been a really good chipper pitcher and Wedge Player I use a lot of hands but it's also hurt me when it's come to having a technically sound golf swing and so. I think like the funny finishes the Helicopter Fall. Throughs that comes from being such a field player that It starts influencing the way it looks and you know I tell people quite a lot like not many curved anymore I think Obviously is kind of in a category of its own. He curves the ball as hard curve. It now if the technology the golf ball and the driver and even our grooves now they're you know they're not square groove so but all that to say I still see shots like I'm hitting tour out in the ninety s still C- curves rights left or right depending on where the pin is and so when you see kind of a funny finish. It's probably me trying to curb it or try to help the ball. So yeah it's Kinda it's unique. It doesn't look pretty but it's kind of have always been. Yeah it's I. It's interesting that you know. The finishes are are related to the ball side. I'm curious as there are now. I'm trying to think back at it. Is there one that looks like a drawl and one? That looks like a faith. Do you feel like it. But do you feel like it. Were I just trying to piece together? Yes so you'll probably never see it much with my cut swings but it's more of a draw because as a through impact my right hand is turning over. I'm trying to shut the face as I go through impact and if I have a funny finish it's either because I turned it over too much or not enough and I'm saving it trying to correct it after the ball exits. And so yeah. I don't know I was saying my best. The best ball striking have the. You'll see less of those funny finishes because I you know I just feel like a lot of times. It's me saving something that went technically wrong in the downsizing and so when when I'm swinging well you'll see less of it. I want to be very clear here that you're talking to a guy who lives extremely close to the hustle and hits a a disproportionate amount of shanks for ability. Should would you say your swigging anyway contributes to potentially hitting more shanks than some other tour players? That's a great question actually. Don't know the answer. Polly would polly's like the swing guru for me is funny the shanks hits so I'm probably the PGA tour shanks for my career but Paulie reminds me that when when I do hit a shank that usually comes in a really good ball striking face right. That's your own TV when you do it. Usually yeah like masters I had one. I was hitting a great around that time. Twenty twelve was like the fall is one of my better ball striking times that I had a Shank it the at cog hill the BMW. I shot sixty five. The first round shunted on eighteen. May Par cold shank like in the grandstands Shank and then shanked had a few weeks later the Ryder Cup against impulse so my most embarassing moment for Shirl tour have been following a Shank. We'll do I still don't understand what it like how it happens you know. I feel like I'll make gone. Looks at felt totally? How the hell did I hit the Hazel. I know why mine happens. Like mine happens because I have a lot of face rotation going back and so if you look if you freeze my backswing halfway back face will be a little more open than the average tour player and so at that mixed in with my being Hansie player. I'm GONNA come into the ball. He'll leaving a lot because I'm a drawer. And so it's that face gets to open and my backswing doesn't complete than. I'm going to start healing the ball but I got a great drill for you. All right so you need to set up like you normally GonNa hit it. Put a golf ball like one inch or maybe half an inch from the toe of your club and just hit like ten fifteen shots. You'll start in closer to the center of the fakes. That's what I do when I'm healing in works. I've got a wear pattern on the hustle. My nine iron at this point so I'll try I WANNA go ahead from To Twenty twelve Us Open of course your first title. The most important question I can ask about that though is of course the Birdman. Yeah have you had any contact with the Birdman sets the The ceremony no show Birdman. I loved it like I think he thought I was upset. But I wasn't I thought it was a great story. Everybody wanted to ask me about it. So people think twenty twelve yourself and Olympic. I think they think a Berman before anything So he he like. He didn't official apology on Youtube. That semi sent me but he didn't need to because I. I rather enjoyed it but no I haven't haven't seen love to see him come out. I mean especially if I was able to win another. Us Open our expect for him to be there. We we've tried to get on the podcasts. He cut flakes out. I I think the redeeming quality of that was that it was for a a cause that he believed in it but he was a drunken hooligan but Yeah I got to admit I have very few memories of that week and I don't know if it's you know the the highlights are scarce online The story lines were kind of G. Mackin furic and you. You kinda snuck up one it from a television presentation perspective. Yeah but when you at what point? Are you thinking about winning that Golf Tournament? I I imagine it's probably not after thirty six holes but yet it's such a great weekend and kind of take us through that. Yes so on Saturday when I went out. Shot to wonder and I went from twenty nine to eighth place I think and so I got done and I was just excited about the round. I didn't care what place house in. I just remember thinking. Man I played really solid smart off today and when I realized I was in eighth place in Wa moved a lot more than I thought and that was kind of the first time. The light bulb went off like advocates win. I'm still four back but as we all know anything can happen at A. US Open. And I still wasn't really thinking like man I've like on Sunday morning wasn't really like I got a great chance to win. It was just Mesmeh first time having a chance to win a major like I want to go out capitalize strong day. We'll see what happens and I was over through five and six is another really hard hole but I I was able to make Birdie on six seven the short hole and then ate the par-three and when I made the turn I'm like okay. I normally a couple back probably no matter what they're doing back there. Then when Bernie ten I made like two footer. For birdie in the crowd really cheered like louder than they should have for two footer and I realized at that point okay. I'm probably right there and that's when I started really having fun 'cause I'm like man and to your question. Are they about twenty eleven in kind of not wanting to be in those moments in a way almost being too nervous twenty twelve? I felt like I've won twice. I had a great year like I noticed a major notices new but I really embraced it and I really enjoyed it. Yeah I mean it's just a the I think it's something that only comes from experience. Yeah what what do you when you think back to that week as to what you did better than everyone else what what contributes to your win was your game. Was that the best you've ever played in a major up until that point. Yes you know. What's funny is I go to memorial two weeks prior and a shoe are missing. Cut By eight shots. I think it was six shots. H It was terrible. I gotTA use open. I had a terrible Monday Tuesday Wednesday morning. Like hitting it everywhere we go to. The range wins afternoon. The far right side at Olympic all by ourselves people are gone. Reps are gone. No one's incite is just me and Paul and I remember hit balls for about an hour and a half and Paul something early in that session and I started flushing it and you know I go out and I don't have a great first. Today's I'm just like I said I'm in like twenty eight nine but I think what I did on the weekend is I played the US Open Golf course How you're supposed to play it. Avoided big numbers. I made the eight to ten footers when I needed to keep momentum and I just kind of kept plotting i. I really didn't do anything special but you know I. It was just kind of what I needed to do and I need a little help. From feerick McDowell. Whoever else on Sunday and they did the They helped me out a little bit. If they go out and shot a couple of under it was ballgame over and so the why Tigers Record Jackson record is so impressive and even brooks this early in his career. Is that for us to play? Only four. These majors a year to win. Unless you blow a field away like you got a lot of things have to happen in your favor like you gotta go out and play well and play solid but any given round as you know because you're in golf so Mike Shoot six seven eight hundred even in a major and I tell people all the time. I have a three-shot lead at Augusta. Go out play a great final round of three under and around that golf course. Somebody gets hot shoe. Seven eight hundred. I'll lose. Nobody ever remembers that. I finished second but yet I play great and so. That's why I win. These guys winning majors. Multiple Times is even more impressive to me. That's why that I think about Phil at Twenty. Sixteen at Troon all the time. He was eleven shots. Clear of third place in didn't win. It's got to be absolutely absolutely manning so take me through that eighteenth so like for example. How take me through your second shot into eighteen where that ball ends up because I mean that? See if that goes if if it goes a foot further left you're on you're on the green in great shape if it goes a couple of feet further right year may not able to get up and down so kind of what are some of the things they went your way on that day that that Birdie stretch in the middle of around us six seven eight and ten were kind of that was kind of the main birdie-burst that got me the US Open. Think and then the rest of the round. There's really solid a hit. I might hit every fairway and every green coming in excepts eighteen so eighteen for for people who haven't played Olympic. The fairway is kind of is really tied. The holes only like three fifty. But when you lay up if you lay down the right. It kicked ready to lay down. The left kicks left. So I hit five off the tee left-center kicks left goes in the kind of I cut a rough and my day. This is the one responsible for this graduate. A rough so when the ball goes in the rough three yards. You're can have a better live than if you're in the rough eight yards..

Tiger is going to have to come up with something that nine switch over just to the right of that fairway at night because we're tiger was we find the eighteenth and Webb Simpson. Standing in the middle of the fairway co leader at nine under-. Eight under for the day. Simpson's got to to to this new back right whole location. He's pull the six iron. And he's going to get all of this. Because this is an uphill approach. Came out and go a little soft that probably won't be enough in it, isn't it's up into the middle of the green. This is a three tiered green here. Eighteen in that has caught one of the tears in. It's going to funnel back toward the middle. And it's getting farther away. It's going to be about forty feet, but Webb Simpson is on the green and has that putt for sixty three on Saturday. Augusta already tied for the lead. Very good round of golf get quarrel with that at all. Behind the green at thirteen. Rickie Fowler playing his third shot rolling down. In a little pitch and run for Rickie Fowler any holes it for eagle. Rickie fowler. Now four under on the day seven hundred for the week, and he's just two shots back so Webb Simpson and Tony fee now lead at nine under par tiger among those one back everybody chomping at their heels..

"Children coming up. I believe it's the first week in November. But at the end of October, it's when the tournament starts, so let's talk a little bit about that. Let's talk about something positive got some pretty good players playing in the Shriners. I know there's going to be an announcement for some more players coming this week. But let's start with the Ricky Fowler. Rickie Fowler announcing that he will be here in the Shriners. We've got a couple of other solid players talk a little bit about the field, thus far where we got Rickie Fowler going to generate some excitement, obviously, you know, he used to live here in Las Vegas before. He moved to Florida. It's always good to have him. There. Hope that he's gonna bring out some people. We've got Webb Simpson. I. Understand who's you know, had getting second life and became the coffee. He's playing absolutely terrific. Jim furic who made this tournament an annuity? You know, years back is supposed to be supposed to become an ear to play the interesting Brian to see if Jim gets hammered by a few people as far as the parents, you know, for the Ryder Cup what he's here. That's actually, very interesting. I forgot Jim furic is going to be here. You think he's going to take a little bit of heat? Might take a little bit heat. You think so? Yeah. But he's, but there's gonna be some other announcements made like you say later this week and they're going to get some rumors. You know, I don't want to throw names out if you know, if I can't confirm, but. You know, they're trying their damndest to make this obviously, you know, a successful event and get people out, but they just got a lot of blockades in their way. Like they've had for many years. It will be interesting Brian out that the PGA tour is revamping the schedule, you know. So everybody figure, you know, finishes up before the NFL exactly where this tournament next year will fall interesting. Yeah. The I think the timing is really bad. We all agree on that. I think if they change if they can do anything to change the timing of this event. I think there you get a lot more players. It's not like many of these guys don't like coming to Vegas. They do. Let's be honest. I it's it's bad timing. I it's it's a bad time to think if it was like a week before a major or week after a major it would be perfect. But as we know in the hot summer months here, nobody wants to play golf. Now, that's interesting rumor that's going around Brad. This'll kind of shock you. There's a lot of people that want to come to Vegas to play. This thing the Shriners want more people that come to play the state because it's more money for them. They have it's on the table and has been for a little while that they are considering using PPC Las Vegas as another golf course to give bigger field and then make their cut. That's interesting. Interesting. I did not know that very interesting. You know, what we played golf in? What was the July early August? And I almost died. Honestly, it was it was it was a hundred and fifteen degrees hundred th. I mean, honestly, the weather in Vegas is the best in October November and without a doubt. Yeah. So it should be probably earlier mid October. That would be the ideal as far as I'm concerned. Yeah. I agree. Mr. guru Dennis silvers. Always appreciate it. When you come on. And join us. Thank you so much. We'll have again soon and hopefully next time in studio. You miss George Michael today. Dennis dart at any one of my favorite. He was outstanding. Outstanding was so good. Joining us talking about PGA tour drama, and there's a lot of it happening right now that Ryder rider couples an absolute mess. Well, my interest is piqued. Yes. Yeah..
