"Oh, it was. We were all just we couldn't we were beside ourselves. We were so excited for him. And we had been in the quarter horse show horse business and my husband had been hit by some kids that were running from the police. It was one of those things you see on 60 minutes and nearly killed and we said, you know what? We're not going to be able to ride these show horses anymore with all these broken bones. Let's just go see what Kentucky's all about. And we came here in 19 88, I guess it was and we went to the keeneland July sale. And picked out the ten top Phillies we like in Wayne Lucas bought 7 of them, so we looked at each other and said, you know what? I think our eye will transfer to this industry. If Wayne Lucas bought them, so the rest is history. We immediately got started and have had a wonderful time. You know, these thoroughbreds are so rewarding. Unlike a quarter horse where you kind of have to tell them what to do with the thoroughbreds, you talk to them and you say, come on, trust me, this is going to be okay. We can go this direction or that. You don't have to worry, and they want to Bond up with you. And I think I've been doing this since I was 12. And that's a lot of years from now. And I think these horses are just a joy to live and work around because they really want to trust you and they really want to perform for you. And there is no way that you're going to make a thoroughbred run fast. They only do it for the love of the sport and the challenge of beating their competitors and I wish I could talk horse. I just wonder what they're saying behind the starting gate when they're posturing with each other because I think they just have a great time. John, anything to add to that. It's been a joy for me growing up. It's been a great it was a great childhood and I enjoyed it so much and I've enjoyed growing up around the horses and going to the sales and pulling these horses and raising these horses. I was only intelligent enough for a year of law school. My mom's the brilliant one. She went to Vanderbilt. She went to law school and all that. I think I don't think I had many other talents. And this is the sport for me. And this is the business for me. And I've been very blessed to be in it all my life. And you've made the 100% right choice because things are working out brilliantly, and they have for many, many years, and congratulations to you, John, and Martha Jane to you on all your success and continued success over the next several weeks as we lead into breeders cup. Good luck today with and tell me no lies and K rock. Thank you so much. Thank you for having us. Thanks, John. Boy, what a delight. You know, I reached out to Martha Jane because you don't often get to hear from the people that are responsible for getting these horses started with their career. So often we talk to the trainers or to the owners and, you know, those people are, look, those are the people in the headlines, right? Those are the people that are making the call with those horses now. But you don't often get that perspective from the folks on the farm. And that is the backbone of this industry. I've said it for years, and so many of the major horse farms are sponsors of this show and have been for over 20 years now. And to see the hard work and dedication that all of those people put in from the folding stage, the breeding, the folding, raising the horses, sail prep, all the countless hours spent at the horse sales, the dedication that it takes to be on that side of the business. You don't often get to hear that side of it. So my thanks to Martha Jane and to John Henry mulholland for taking time to be with me here this morning and boy, are they on a roll, potentially three breeders cup horses that have come through their program. When I come back, I'll get you ready for a really, really busy second hour of the program, and I'll tell you what's ahead and hour number three. This is the equine forum on the horse racing radio network. Hi Tony. Hey, Matthew. There's a reason why Tony steaks and seafood is my favorite restaurant. It's because I want to feel part of the family. Isn't that right, Tony? That's right. There's a saying on the wall that I truly believe in. There's always room for one more at our table. "To learn about ownership with West Point thoroughbreds, the gold standard in racing partnerships, message and data rates may apply. Tim kick it off first. What is your West Point of the week? My West Point of the week is I am here at Kentucky downs. It's a fabulous fabulous venue. I'm glad I'm here. I'm working with publicity with Jenny Reese. And if anybody doesn't come down here, they're insane because it's great racing and the pulled chicken is just phenomenal. And actually so is the Mac and cheese. So if you come down here, make sure you grab some of that because it is great. Yeah, it really missing out on something if you have an opportunity to go and you don't tuck it down. So why was point a week is a Chad brown's leading trainer as a meat again, but the leading horseman of the meat at Saratoga this year in my opinion by far is 80 7 year old Wayne Lucas went in 7 races and doing it in style. Buying young horses at the sale and proved just keep on living. And bringing kids into the winner circle with him. Yes, he did. He does it all. He's a great man. The greatest greatest man in the game. Love it. Doing that for 30 years. Tim wilkin, this is I asked they answer guys, as always, we'll do it all over again next week as we begin season number two of this show. It's been a great first year. Thanks for everything guys. We'll talk again next week. Thanks, brother. All right, Dale Romans, Tim wilkin. I asked they answer presented by the university of Louisville equine industry program in the college of business. "The moonlight for Charlie appleby. Louis syes is going to replace William Buick in the saddle later today. That with the moonlight coming back on short rest, but coming back in the grade two Lake placid, just one of several big races on the program at Saratoga today, leading up to the grade one Alabama. We'll see nest taking on a talented field, including that rematch with secret oath and to tell us more about the Alabama and the Lake placid and all that stakes action up at Saratoga today. I welcome in naira analyst Maggie wolfendale Morley. Maggie, good morning. Well, thank you for having me, Mike. It's looking forward to a really nice day at the track. Yeah, so okay, let's start with the weather. What do things look like up there this afternoon? A little hot. But sunny skies and so we're definitely firm on the turf. So I threw out a poll question this morning. And it's kind of a prop bet that I created. If you were to bet nest or the field in today's Alabama, which one are you going to take? And so far, HR and nation is citing with the heavy favorite nest, 68% saying they're going with her. How about for you? Is it nasty or do we see a bit of a Saratoga upset in there later today? It's hard to bet against her, but that, I mean, I would probably go with the majority and take her against the field, but I mean, there's certainly a case we made for a horse that's gerrymander. I mean, what is she done wrong? And then I don't know, secret oh, maybe we've just, she's just kind of hit or peak and is on her way back down. Maybe, but Wayne Lucas has said that he wasn't that hard on her going into the CCA oaks and she was coming off a bit of a freshening and maybe he has her tighter, but she's a lightly framed Billy, so I don't know how much harder you can be on secret oath to get her as he would view it, make up the 12 and a quarter lengths that she has to to beat next. Yeah, it's not like, I mean, she was second to nest in the coaching club American oaks, but it's not like she was a close second. She has a lot of work to do to turn the tables. Do you think the pace scenario is a little different in the Alabama than what we saw in the coaching club American oaks? I mean,

"You can always listen live or back go back and listen to the replays of any one of our shows. All right, so let's talk a little bit about some of the great races coming up this weekend. And the Alabama is certainly one of the marquee events. I don't know what you could say is the biggest race. We've got two grade one races and the Alabama and the delmar oaks. And then we've got the biggest race in Canada. The queen's plate, which is not a great race, but it's the biggest race in Canada. That goes on Sunday. I don't want to disparage any one of the three. They are all fantastic races. And unbelievable histories. And we're talking about some of these Phillies who have won the Alabama over the years and thanks to lead el peto for coming up with these great replays and going down memory lane, listening to some of these great stretch calls over the years of Philly's like songbird and royal delta and Versailles treaty, but even some of the other ones in the 80s and the 90s, whether it's silver bullet day or sky beauty or November snow or the great go for wand who unfortunately had her racing career cut way too short open mind and life's magic for the team of Wayne Lucas and gene Klein, just fantastic Phillies over the years. This year's edition, I don't want to give too much away as far as a selection because it's going to be right back 8 minutes from now starting the weekend takes preview with Dave Freeman and I'm sure he's going to have some great opinions as he always does. I wonder what we expect from nest. In the Alabama. Because in my mind, it certainly looks like her best races make her clearly the one to beat and morning line maker David aragona, who does a good job most of the time. He is right on. He has later is the one to two favorites. So whether he likes her to win or not, he believes that the betting public is going to make nest a heavy favorite and I happen to agree with him. It's funny because, you know, we kind of joke around and say, well, you know, you usually see you'd see like nested 8 to 5 on the morning line and secret oath that 5 to two or something like that. But David aragona is making no bones about it. He made nest one to two on the morning line. He is being as honest as can be. Instead of laying her 8 to 5 and knowing that she's definitely going to be less than 8 to 5. He's Langer one to two. Now, the good and the bad of doing that is this. The good is he is being more honest than most morning line makers out there. He is willing to make a short price a horse or an entry that he thinks will be a short priced favorite. A short price favored. He laid a maiden entry today at Saratoga one to 5 on the morning line. You know what price they went off at? One to 5. And by the way, they were finished first and second. He could have easily laid it four to 5 on the morning line, 6 to 5 on the morning line. And given people hope who maybe wanted to bet that entry say, hey, I would take three or four to 5, if that's what they end up going down. Now, he just basically said, listen, the sentry's going to be one to 5. I'm laying the entry one to 5. He laid nest one to two tomorrow in the Alabama. So the bad part of it is, people who were interested in betting nest are getting an early wake-up call, looking at the morning line and saying, listen, if you have any delusions of getting close to even money on nest, just leave those at the now leave those at the door. Now, not to say that morning line makers are always right. I happen to think he is right in this spot. He is being very honest in ling nest as the one to two favorite. She was awesome in the coaching club American oaks. She won by 12 lengths. She left secret oath and everyone else in her wake that day. She's got gerrymandered that she's facing tomorrow. She's faced gerrymander in the past. It was a long time ago. When neither of them are as good, to be honest, as they are now. And they both improved a lot. Nest is a little bit more proven than cherry mander. Doesn't mean gerrymander can't prove it tomorrow. In the Alabama. You're going to get a much better price on gerrymander if you like her than you will on nest.

"In the Derby, from that inside post position? Yeah, Barbara wrote, you have creative minister Skippy longstocking, who we just saw finished 5th in the Preakness. The Philly nest, the Ashland winner, who was runner up in the Kentucky oaks behind secret oath, Todd pletcher may indeed run her against the boys. Ethereal road from the coach D Wayne Lucas, we the people, huge winner of the Peter Pan, golden glider, and kuchar. Those are the probables for the Belmont stakes in two weeks. Who's going to be the favorite? I still don't think it's rich strike. I think it'll probably end up being mode donegal. Who will end up being the favorite? But rich strike, he has to be in the top three, right? I think we the people will take some play off of his big win in the Peter Pan. The Philly might take a little play. Is she runs? Am I rich Drake? He's got to be in the top three. If not the top two. He won't be anywhere near 80 to one in the Belmont. But I do think he's getting disrespected in the poll. I think being behind the horses he beat on the biggest stage three weeks ago just doesn't make sense. The other question I'm going to have for Romans and wilkin later today during I asked they answer is also my poll question for you. I'm going to ask you the very same question. Today is national hamburger day and national brisket day. So which one you got? Hamburger or brisket. I want to see who wins this poll. I think I have to side with brisket. Especially if you've ever had the brisket that my brother smokes. It's unbelievable. But if you do brisket right, there's nothing better than a good smoked brisket. And I love hamburgers. Don't get me wrong. I'm a huge hamburger. I have bacon cheeseburger. I mean, look at me, I'm half baking cheeseburgers. But to me, a good brisket, that's tough to beat. So today is national hamburger day and national brisket day. Which one you got? Let's have a little fun with this one today, HR and nation. You can go to HR in on Twitter, horse racing radio network on Facebook to let me know your thoughts. And if you're not a social media person, that's cool..

"You also love Louis Hayes and he said, I do and I said, and you love me. So let's make a new chapter in your book. We can supplement the book and this would be a great ending at a great day for all of us. And so it was great just to talk every day. Yeah, very, very special. And one more comment about Wayne Lucas before we move on to charge it who you'll be aboard in the early will be aboard in The Kentucky Derby later today for Todd pletcher. When Dale Romans and Tim wilkin join me every week for the final segment of the show, which is called I ask they answer, oftentimes they'll refer to date to Dwayne Lucas as the greatest of all time. And I know Dale certainly feels that way. He is currently 9th on the all time wins list. So there are some great ones ahead of him, including Todd pletcher, Steve asim, Jack van Berg is ahead of him. Dale Barrett, of course, is number two on the list there, Bill Mott. But do you look at Wayne Lucas Kieran as maybe the greatest horse trainer of all time? Yes, for sure. He has a great article horse he bought so many of his horses and made them champions and he just was a workaholic and a great person to work with and had to deal with everything in the industry and to Jeff Jeff was very important during those years that we were there with him and but he is definitely that greatest train or horse trainer of all time. Kieran McLaughlin when we hear on the horse racing radio network longtime trainer now a jockey's agent and he is the agent for jockey Louis sieze, the winner of the Kentucky oaks yesterday and looking to pull off the oaks Derby double. And Kieran the horse he's going to get a leg up on later today from your good friend Todd pletcher charge it is a horse that's been kind of a buzz horse at Churchill in the mornings. He has looked spectacular each and every day he's been out. Yes, Louise loves into the first time he worked and he doesn't say too much to me about we work off and for Todd and the first time he got on and he called me and said, charge it very nice horse. Please make sure we ride in. So it was he loves the horse. He's been training well. He never gets tired and is racist. And he was a little green last time. Going on a quarter should be a plus for him being by tap it and out of a great mayor and not getting tired. The key is that trip and hopefully we have a clean trip, but he will be probably more forwardly placed today going on a quarter if we break well. And I'm not sure that track condition, but hopefully he'll be forwardly placed. It seems like since Churchill down switched to the points system to qualify for The Kentucky Derby that we don't see the fast fractions early on that we used to see when we were going by greatest stakes earnings and you had sprinters that were entered in there taking a shot trying to stretch out and go mile in a quarter that ensured a fast pace. Do you see this Derby as having a little more early pace than what we've seen over the past few years, Karen? Yes, I agree with what you said about the point system. But this year, it seems like that there's three or four of them that would like to be out there up there. So the California horses at the center and we hopefully will be there close. So there's going to be an honest pace for sure and it's just you need a clean trip. A lot is being made about the fact that Santa need a Derby winner taba only has two lifetime starts, although he's one of both, both impressively, but he only has two starts coming into the Derby. Very difficult. The only one horse in the history of the Derby is one with two starts and you have to go back to the 1800s. Charge it only has three lifetime starts is that one additional race Kieran, does it mean that much in terms of the seasoning of a young horse like this? Well, hopefully it does. And we're able to the key was that he got darkness phase. And he was laid off the pace. So he did get a good schooling that day. So that was important because if you just break and go to the lead and when you're two races and never get bumped around or get any dirt in your face it's tough. So he did learn from it and he's very talented and every year I feel like we've talked about the California horses coming into the Derby and they've been only racing against four or 5, 6 other horses. They seem to come in there and do very well. A couple of one triple crowns that were run in small fields. So it's all about the horse and how talented they are. If charge it is going to be more forwardly placed, assuming he breaks well. What other horses do you expect to be up on or near the lead with him? Yeah, that's a good question from the UAE that the horse that has shown speed there, but I think that he will not be as forwardly placed as us and I would say epicenter is going to break from the three hole and have to be there. So and then I'm not sure about who else who just have to see who breaks well and how it goes..

"He might not be as good as he once was. But yesterday at Churchill downs, Darnell Wayne Lucas was as good as he ever was. What we witnessed yesterday may end up being the moment of the year in thoroughbred racing. And let's face it, the coach doesn't win all that much anymore. Certainly not at the rate he was winning in his heyday. When he was dominating the sport. But Wayne has always placed additional emphasis on the big days. Win when the whole world is watching. And yesterday, when secret oath and Louis sayas crossed the finish line, to win the Kentucky oaks. Wayne did it again. He once again turned back the hands of time. Recording his 5th win in that prestigious race. And it comes 32 years after his most recent, and 40 years. After he first won the oaks in 1982, with blush would pride. It is such a great story. And it's going to take one hell of a moment to top what we saw yesterday at Churchill downs. Throughout the rest of the year, that, in my opinion, I'm voting for it right now. That is the moment of the year in thoroughbred racing. Up until yesterday, Wayne would have had an opportunity to pull off the oak Derby double, which can you imagine if that were the case, but it's not going to happen now. Ethereal road scratched from The Kentucky Derby, which means that rich strike who was on the also eligible list is going to draw in to that 20th position. So still 23 year olds set to go later today. I'm going to talk more about that storyline that unfolded yesterday beneath the twin spires when I welcome Kira mclachlan to the program at 9 o'clock eastern Kieran, began his career working with Wayne Lucas. And now that Kieran has concluded his training career moved on to being a jockey's agent for Luis saez, yesterday was a special day for Kieran, and for his family, considering everything that Wayne Lucas did for Kieran to get him started back in the day. You saw Todd pletcher yesterday. For those of you watching the television coverage, you saw Todd pletcher waiting for Wayne to come back from the winner's circle after the trophy presentation. Back to the tunnel going toward the paddock and Todd was there and he waited for Wayne. Of course Todd had nest in that race, the favorite. But Todd waited, Todd's a former trainer, a former disciple of Wayne Lucas. He's part of that fantastic training tree. And I tell you all the time when Todd pletcher comes on the show with me that he is one of the classiest trainers in the sport. We saw it yesterday at Churchill. Waiting for his mentor to come back after beating him. In the Kentucky oaks, but that story of Wayne Lucas. At 86 years old, winning his 5th Kentucky oaks 40 years after his first. Undoubtedly, that is the story of the year. In thoroughbred racing, it will take one heck of a story to top it. Well, the road to The Kentucky Derby, which officially began 227 days ago with the first of 48 qualifying points races, of course, for those of you who work in the falling bars on horse farms all over the world. You know that that road to the Derby started. The minute those babies hit the ground. But the road at least in terms of the points races began where it's going to end later today. Beneath the iconic twin spires of Churchill downs. That was the Iroquois stakes on September 18th of last year. You had ten juveniles that were entered in the starting gate that day. All of them hoping their journey would lead them back to Churchill downs on this first Saturday and may. None of those ten that were in the Iroquois. Are among this year's Derby field. Although the winner of that Iroquois stakes major general is going to be an action in the grade two pat day mile on the undercard. But that is yet another indication of just how challenging it is to earn a spot in the world's most famous race. The 20 horses, who are going to line up for the run for the roses later today, are led by bluegrass stakes winner zanden and Louisiana Derby winner epicenter. Zan and of course, the morning line favorite in this year's Derby. He hadn't even been think about this. Zanden hadn't even made his first start when the Iroquois kicked off the road to The Kentucky Derby points races. He didn't start till October of last year. An epicenter had literally just gotten his career started. In a maiden race, on the undercard that day at Churchill. And by the way, he finished 6th at 13 to one. race. And he is the only one from that ten horse maiden race to make it to The Kentucky Derby, and I got news for you. He ain't going to be 13 to one today. Although, as of this moment,.

"Mine that bird, he ran forth in the sunland Derby. And giacomo finished fourth in his prior race before The Kentucky Derby. So I mean, that's probably the sentiment you're going to have if classic causeway comes up and wins June. I have to use him now. I have to put him on my ticket somewhere because I've been beating that drum all spraying. And then that clunker in Florida, I still have to I still have to throw him in there somewhere. I'm never going to try to talk people off long shots. I just deciding not to use him myself. Speaking of long shots, tis the bomb is a horse I think can make some noise. If you're looking for a trifecta horse, a super effective horse, I just have this sneaky feeling about tis the bomb. He's a tough read because even his trainer Kenny mcpeek says he's best on turf. When's the last time a horse that everyone knows is best on a different surface wins The Kentucky Derby. Yeah, it's been great on turf. He's been great on synthetic. He hasn't been great on conventional dirt yet. But his speed figures say that he would have a chance. Yeah, he broke his maiden on conventional dirt at Ellis park by 14 lengths. It was just by the way. There's no such thing as conventional dirt. It's just dirt. It's dirt. Not synthetic dirt. Yeah. We broke his maiden on dirt by 14 lengths at Ellis park last year. So he handled that, although it was an off the turf race, the competition, not what he's going to face on Saturday, certainly, but yeah, I just had this sneaky feeling about being a long shot for the tries in the supers. And how do you know speed figure wise like from synthetic turf to dirt? I mean, you don't. How do they correlate? We've seen horses like animal kingdom. Come off those races and surprise everybody in The Kentucky Derby. Maybe this is the next animal kingdom. It could be. I mentioned why the barrio and his trainer saffy Joseph junior, the native of Barbados, who is going to be with us on this program tomorrow, white a barrio is four for 5 lifetime, his only time he did not win was here at Churchill downs last November that was in the Kentucky jockey club when he finished third behind smile happy and classic causeway. So we'll see how that plays out for him. Hopefully he handles it better on Saturday and he did that day. That's roundly considered the best of the two year old races we saw last year. Even better than the breeders cut juvenile because all of those horses got tremendous speed figures and they all came back and have done at least something as three year old smile happy classic causeway white a barrio. So it's a wide open Wayne Lucas was saying what a wide open at oaks. This is here. It's a.

"Your way this week to get you ready for the 148th run for the roses. Mike penna Jude feld and Bobby Newman with you here this morning. That was Dave Johnson with the call of the 1999 run for the roses. The last of four victories in The Kentucky Derby for the great Hall of Famer D Wayne Lucas, who is kind enough to spend a little time with us on this show this morning, he is at his barn, so he joins us by phone, Wayne, good morning, happy Derby week, my friend. The hell of a call by Dave, you know, I met charismatic race. That was great. I liked the part where it was one, two, and then all of a sudden got to be one three, but it was still a great call. Wayne, you've always said that you have to be in it to win it, and nobody is better in these big spots than Wayne Lucas. Ethereal road is now in. You got to shop my friend. Well, you know I was saying some of your colleagues earlier today. The thing about it is it's an achievement to get in it. You try to get this clientele, but you represent in give them this opportunity. It's so important to so many of them. When they get in the third race and they really want to then say, try to get into one of these classic races, especially The Kentucky Derby. So I think it's an achievement to get in it. The other thing that you can't overlook is that if you run third and that you get 300,000, if you run forth and that you get a 150,000, so you get 600,000 runs second. It's quite a lucrative economic decision also. One of the things that you've been noted for your whole career is having horses in these big races and you're one of the guys that can get you to The Kentucky Derby, isn't that kind of how you've acquired a lot of clients. They know that you can do this and they want to be in the Derby. So they get Wayne Lucas to train for them. Well, I.

"I mean, I don't know how you gauge those races. How good are they? It's like cyber knife. He won an allowance race at fairgrounds. He got killed in the lecomte to call me midnight. You know, how good is he? We the people. He broke his maiden at Oak Lawn in a maiden special weight race, came back and won an allowance race easily. I mean, he hasn't proven that he's a bomb, but he hasn't proven that he's all world. And his speech figures are way lighter than the rest of the field. So I just really don't know how much qualities in this race. I think Wayne Lucas picked a good spot for secret oath in that it's a very weak Arkansas Derby. Very, very weak. One of the weakest Arkansas derbies we've had many years. So I think it's a good spot to take a shot. It's a grade one. Forget the oaks, forget the Derby, forget anything. If this Philly wins a grade one, she's worth millions, right? A daughter of irrigate who won a grade one? You know, pick any number. The Japanese will be lining up to bid on her. So I think it's an important race for secret oath to win, but would I bet on her? Probably not. All right, well, we will find out tomorrow the Arkansas Derby and all those other great stakes at Oak Lawn park. We're going to take another break. When we come back, we'll head to Gulfstream park. They've got 6 graded stakes on their car tomorrow..

"A couple of fields in Oak Lawn park around two turns to start his career. Now he saddled with an outside post and obviously must tougher competition. But to be perfectly honest, I think a repeat of his last race that allowance win is good enough to contend, if not beat this field. So I'm going to put we the people on top. I'm going to use cyber knife as well. Both of us taking a shot against the Wayne Lucas Philly number 6 secret oath, who figures to be the favorite now. Jude, you're a former trainer, obviously you're a fan of the game. You've been a fan of the game for a long time. And you mentioned some of the other Phillies that Wayne Lucas is known for in running against the boys and beating the boys. You know, you mentioned althea, you mentioned winning colors. What is it about you're saying that she's very feminine secret oath and that she doesn't have quite the stature of somebody like winning colors, is that a very big deal when taking on the boys? I don't really know. I mean, there's been little Phillies that can do anything. When you see the two on the track together, doppelganger is going to completely cover up secret oath. I like that horse because he's strong. He looks like a beast. And he's going to be pretty tough, I think, especially with Johnny V on him. It's going to make a big difference. And I'm a huge flavian Pratt fan, but I'm also a huge Johnny V fan. I just think he's just maybe a little bit better. I don't know. I don't know how to gauge the competition that secret oath has been facing. I know Wayne's really high on her and when he gets high on a horse, it's a double edged sword. Sometimes he believes his own press notices in other times, you know, 100% correct. So it's a tough call. I just have always liked doppelganger and when I saw he was getting a writer switch, taking the blinkers off, I think it's going to make a big difference to him. Oh, I completely agree with Wayne Lucas that they need to take a shot against the boys in the Arkansas Derby with secret oath. I think that's the right move because, you know, why not see what you got? And if she runs really well and wins the race or narrowly misses, she'll have enough points to run in The Kentucky Derby, and then they're thinking, look, if she's good enough to do it here, then we got to try her there. I think they pretty much already know that she's good enough to contend at least in the Kentucky yolks. Whether you think that she can beat echo Zulu and hidden connection in some of the other big name Phillies from around the country. That's another story. But I think they think already that they've got that in their back pocket. Let's see what we got. They'll try her in the Arkansas Derby. And let's face it. She ran her last race in the honey bee, the same day that they ran the rebel. And the rebel universally this year is regarded as not that strong of an event. It didn't come up with the strongest field. The horses who were expected to do well did not run well and the ones who ended up ended up coming in are ones that are not going to scare anybody away. And it sounds like you think the same thing because nobody's picking and uno Ho or any of the horses who ran behind him in the rebel. Everyone thinks it's either the Philly or one of the three quote unquote new shooters doppelganger cyber knife and we the people. Yeah, well, you know, the thing for me as a handicapper, you know, secret oath beat ice orchid. You know? I mean, I don't know who that is. I mean, you know, just the horse..

"The daily racing form, it'll take you right to that page. You mentioned epicenter and the likely favorite in the Arkansas Derby. Going to face off with the Philly, who is going to get a lot of attention, secret oath from Wayne Lucas Barnes. But that is shaping up to be a pretty de brace too. Let's take a look at the horses that are based in Arkansas. What are you seeing from those horses, Marty and what's catching your attention? Well, you had a 16 seed when the rebel. I kind of threw everything at the chaos there and that's one of the reasons I think that trainer D Wayne Lucas wants to go ahead and run the Philly back in the Arkansas Derby. The horse named un ojo, the one eyed New York bread. He was a 75 to one winner for a trainer named Ricky corville. And so Wayne Lucas was second in that race with another long shot ethereal road. He's not going to run in the Arkansas. There are he's going to run the bluegrass. So there's a horse that wind stars involved in, trained by Rudy percent named we the people. I think that it's going to be the Philly secret oath and we the people and probable favors. Arkansas, you've got epicenter running back for Steve asked me said in a bird Derby, which is next Saturday at a mile three 16s, by the way, which they lengthen that distance. I think it was two years ago. And that's one of the reasons Kenny is running rental and ruin there is because of that extra business. So a lot of these guys, especially Todd, who has four or 5 of them to keep separate, I think you might end up seeing a pleasure horse over there in Arkansas too. Talking to Marty McGee from the daily racing form, Marty, when Dale Romans and Tim wilkin join me at the end of the program during our I ask, they answer segment. One question I'm going to post to them is the same question I asked them 8 weeks ago, which region of the country appears to have the strongest Derby contenders at this point in the game. I'm curious to see what their answers are going to be compared to what they were 8 weeks ago. How about for you if you were to take Florida Arkansas Louisiana and just focus on those three states? I know they're not individual regions, but those three states, which of those three appears to have the strongest contingent of Derby prospects at this point. Oh gosh. I think Florida, for sure. I mean, you've got Todd's four or 5 as I've mentioned, you've got tennis too. And you have Chad with both zan Don, of course, he has early voting up in New York. But I think as a whole and of course, classic causeways is not to be overlooked by any means. And so I think it would have to be here. I mean, Steve asked me to stand in Louisiana and you have a couple of sleepers, like I mentioned, we the people in Arkansas that I think as a whole definitely have the horses here floor and I have them now. Yeah, it's certainly a deep group. And you know, it's always, I always hate trying to assess The Kentucky Derby or the three year old crop at this point in the season because you really have to wait until maybe even into their four year old season to see how they perform and say, okay, that was a good three year old crop. But it certainly appears like there's some talent out there, no big standout, but there's a lot of parody and a lot of talented runners. Absolutely. I mean, I think you've got to view it through the present of history. Really, Mike, I mean, if you go back and look at, say, for instance, justify 2018 and you look at some of the horses he ran in the therapy, the Preakness and the Belmont and beyond, that was a pretty weak crop. And so we don't really know until, you know, two, three, four years down the road and you can really say, well, this is the way it was with this particular group of horses. Going to be joined by Dave groning coming up in a few minutes at 9 eastern to take a look at the horses based in the northeast. In particular, in New York and we're starting to see some horses emerge there that could make some noise over the next 59 days getting to Louisville. One thing I said earlier in the program, Marty, was that if you look at the top 5 horses currently in the point standings, classic causeway epicenter uno Ho simplification and forbidden kingdom, the one horse that has the look of being a pretender in out of contender is uno Ho, but he's talented. He's run good races, including that win in the risen star. Is he a horse am I wrong in saying that? Or do you view him as more of a pretender or a contender at this point? Oh, he's going to have to show us all again. When the horse is one of 75 to one, you're liable to go back to the funeral. I mean, he might be 6 or 8, something to one in the Arkansas. Derby coming. And by the way, Mary Ann pollini got Ricky here on our page. We had either running back in the Arkansas area over the bluegrass that he is definitely going to run in the bluegrass. So excuse me, in the Arkansas therapy. But he's the type of horse I think somebody candidate and the jockey Ramon Vasquez whipped, who knows 17 or 18 times on a stretch he had any in a perfect rail run as a theory of road and a couple others just gave way, namely new grains he was on its own in the rebel. I'm talking about. And so he's he's the type of horse where if he doesn't get a clear rail run and the others don't fall apart, he might be in trouble facing especially. The likes of secret oath and we the people and maybe a couple others in there. All right, I'm going to put you on the spot, Marty before I let you go. I'm going to ask you to weigh in on the question of the day, which is posted on our social media pages. And I asked if The Kentucky Derby were run today. Who are you betting? Who's the horse you're looking at? I'd bet on classic causeway today, but I really think it's a small happy once you get to know the race and the bluegrass.

"All right, Dell Romans, Tim wilkin are both here as always and guys, we're going to kick it off with the coach Dwayne Lucas because during his keynote speech at the national hbp conference this week, the Hall of Famer proposed the following, which he said can help clean up the sport. He said that they, meaning the owners should talk with trainers and be comfortable that he or she is going to be honest, that the trainer they hire will be honest and not put in a bad spot. Pick a trainer, you know, is going to do it on this job and not get you in trouble. He also proposed the owners to be held accountable just like trainers when a medication violation occurs with one of their horses. So guys I'm going to ask you and Dale as a trainer, I'll start with you with these actions help in cleaning up the score. Well, I'm sure they would wouldn't have talked about it before last August. We had a little we were on a panel together and he brought up these issues, but if an owner knows that he could be held responsible for the actions of his employees like most corporate officials can be, I think they would make sure and stay involved and make sure that their trainers were doing things above board because usually this is their hobby and they've got a lot more important things on their plate, but they keep up with what's going on. And they all know what's going on with their horses. Do you like the idea of an owner interviewing a trainer or is that already taking place? Well, there's all kinds of ways to the owner trainer get together. There are some that have had to interviews. But the biggest thing is people getting game this bit of millions of dollars. They know who the players are. And, you know, it's just a matter of if it all starts and stops, follow the money. It all starts and stops with the owners. They can stop it if they want to. I think that none of them are so naive that if they're getting a little extra benefit, they don't know it. Timmy, I'm going to come to you here because, you know, I think 98, 99% of the connections in this game are playing the game in the right way. We don't hear about those. We hear about the one or 2% that get the sport in trouble. What do you think? Do you like Wayne's comments? Do you think that would help? Yeah. Who is it for me to say that Wayne Lucas is wrong, right? I mean, Wayne Lucas is as a guy that everyone should listen to what he has to say because he's been around. He's seen everything. And as far as, you know, I've been on back stretches for 40 years. And now it might be hard to believe by some, especially a lot of these people that sit on their cans and on social media and just anticipate on things they don't know about, but I believe really, you know, most trainers are honest. I mean, you're not, you're not seeing these guys day in and day out trying to do bad things. I know that. Because I've seen it. I've seen the way these guys treat their horses. I've seen how they go about their business and their professional manner. And as far as the owners, I mean, I think that the owners, you know, like Dale said, they're just, they do have other things on their plates. And they do other things, but I think it would be hard to make the owners accountable because they're really not around that much except that the meats like Saratoga and Keenan, del mar, you know, they go buy phone calls. And they trust their trainers. I would hope. And but as far as Wayne says, you got to listen to everything he says. Let's be clear. I'm talking about also people who are doing things that are detrimental to the game. I'm not talking about over just on medications that we can use. Things can happen. We're talking about serious medications that don't have any business being in the animal horse. Yeah. Yeah, there's a distinct difference there too. There's a big difference. An illegal medication that is allowed to be used is different than using something and trying to sneak something through to enhance performance that is banned from racing. As labeled not to be in the game, you're right. There's a huge difference and people get that so confused. That you can have picogram overages, which is actually what bob's going through. And you're not doing something illegal. You just got too close with the horse with the medication. Yep. According to metabolize different, one of them has a slower metabolism. But those things can happen to anybody. But the EPO is in the bronchial dilators and things that are, if you ever caught somebody doing something like that, then I think it would be known as highest level. All right, let's move on to topic number two. And this one involves two recent Hall of Fame finalists. That's beholder and tepin. They both appear on the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time in their first year of eligibility. They may both get in, but assuming that only one of them receives the required 50% plus one vote required for entry, which is most likely to get into the Hall of Fame this year. Beholder or tepin. Timmy? Well, you know, I'm one of the 150 people or so that gets to vote. And it's an honor to vote for the Hall of Fame, believe me. You know, beholder and tepid, I do believe both will get in, but if only one, I think that beholder's probably the slam dunk on the ballot. I mean, she's a four time eclipse award winner, three time winner of the breeders cup. One, she won grade ones just about every year she ran. I think ages two through 6. I'd be shocked if she doesn't get into 11 grade ones, beat the boys at the Pacific classic in 2015. And who can forget that race with her and songbird in the distaff a couple of years back her last race and she's just a horse that she smells of national racing museum of all the fame..

We're a little behind schedule but we really at the time there you just the progression of those races you just if you didn't you know we didn't wanna miss the hutchinson yet. We're a little. We're a little lacking there and ben. Perkins's horse beets us. That was fun but we gray were a second and we move forward on that. But then we motor fountain you.
