"The other 31 owners are looking and going. We're not doing that because that's dumb. So we'll see. You know, I have no idea what What? How this is gonna play out. To be honest with you. I waffled back and forth on this. There's part of me that thinks that they're going to realize what John McClane said earlier. And they're just going to move on from the Shawn Watson. It's in the markets never going to be better than it is right now. You're never gonna have more suitors with better draft capital then you will right now with teams to three. 89 those air all teams that they would seemingly be not only in the mix for Watson, but Watson would want to go to those places. That's a big key as well. And then I think to myself what would be the thing that this version of the Texans would do? This version of the Texans they traded DeAndre Hopkins for nothing that traded you, Davian Clowney for nothing that traded everything for Laramie Tunsil. That made Bill O'Brien, the general manager. That made Jack Easter be in charge of everything basically made him God in the building. And those are just the high profile things. If you want me to bore you with several more I'd be happy to do. "Eight by 5 to 1 to four. CBS. If you want to get in, let's go. Speaking of Boise, let's go out to let's go out to Boise and talk to Robert Robert Europe on CBS Sports Radio. Hey, how you doing? Good. So, speaking of Brian Carson, the star the long term in Boise. No, he went clear back Tol being a quarterback and also being the offensive coordinator during that festival. And with Oklahoma. So you had a long stretch there and some good offensive plays. So be interesting to see how you can do and I environment with some bigger talent pool. Yeah, Yeah, no doubt. So on your your anniversary question. Do you want a technical viewpoint on that? I think it needs be celebrated on the first, because if you think about The reason for leap year is Every year where 1/4 of a day short and so on the fourth year they make it up by adding a day. So each year on the 28. On the first year your quarter day short of getting to the anniversary next year, a half day short of giving to anniversary So you really need to stretch it to the first every year to actually celebrate because 28 you haven't got there. Yep, That's you know what? Robert? I appreciate the phone call that when we sat down and had these all important talks, my wife and I We did recognize that that if we celebrated on the 28th, it's really only you know, really only 364 days into our first year. Like If it were Vegas and people were betting on my marriage. They would not be allowed to cash the ticket that I had made it to my first anniversary in this marriage until March, 1st, probably right. If you can't cash until Mark Then you shouldn't be able to celebrate until March. 1st. Now I'm all for fun. Things like the thing Denise proposed. In fact, I texted my wife just to run that buyer. And she's like, Well, we kind of did that. Because we way went out to dinner on Friday. We had a friend get married. Couple friends get married yesterday. Co host of mine here in sports radio. 16 Shadow Clint's Turner and his lovely wife, Lauren. Congrats to You guys are getting married yesterday, so we went to their wedding. And then we're gonna go out to you tomorrow night. So we kind of did the two night thing on the anniversary, and we even kind of got away for a night because we stayed at a hotel last night. So Um But that's you know what? I needed a technical opinion on it, Robert, So I appreciate you pointing out to me. That's celebrating on. The 28th is a little food, Daisy. It's a little phony. It's a little fake. Appreciate that. Let's go back to the phones and let's go to Korea. Who's right here in my backyard in Houston, Texas. What's going on, Cory? Mr Photographs. I'm gonna own elaborate morning with your last caller said, and oh, Otherwise, I'm anything but of African American male in Houston, and I'm saying with Shawn Watson You have in there is doing what he needs to do so you could tell. I'm not the most popular dude in my job. You don't train. Somebody just gave $162 million extension too, And we're counting our trading them. He had to give him some of the power's back to the owners, Because now everybody's trying to do like LeBron James, Stan, and I think it counts picked to is gonna see him and Nick a stereo. Don't trade him that the power is gonna go back to the owner. That's also one person isn't bigger than any team on one person Sure, isn't bigger than the NFL. Thanks. All right. Thanks, Cory. I appreciate it. I promise you this. The owners are rooting for the Texans on this one. There there rooting for the Texans on this 11. Because of what you just said. The dynamic that gets created the precedent that gets created. If to Sean Watson's able to force his way out now, the flip side of that and I think it's a fair argument to be made on the other side. Is that the Texans have done so many just outlandish, silly things over the last year and a half. They've done so many things that other NFL teams would never consider doing, most of which is blown up in their face. Bed. I could see where a lot of the owner's heir like. Yeah, You know what? This isn't a trend. This is just the Texans being the Texans. You know? So when it comes time for hot quarterback to do this And they go well to Shawn Watson got to do it in Houston. We're gonna go. Yeah. Huh? And that's the Texans. That's what happened with Laramie Tunsil's contract extension. Do you remember? Bill O'Brien traded two first round picks in a second round pick for Laramie, Tunsil proceeded to give him a contract that was like four million more per year than the next highest tackle. So when Ronnie Stanley's contract came up in Baltimore Who's Ronnie Stanley, who's more accomplished player than Laramie, Tunsil, by the way. Baltimore is like, Yeah, we're not giving you more than Laramie Tunsil because Bill O'Brien, the general manager. Conducted business like a moron. We're not gonna do that. And so maybe we're over blowing this thing. Where the owners are nervous that the Shawn Watson is going to get to do. This may be the owners with the other owners. The other 31 owners are looking and going. We're not doing that because that's dumb. So we'll see. You know, I have no idea what What? How this is gonna play out. To be honest with you. I waffled back and forth on this. There's part of me that thinks that they're going to realize what John McClane said earlier. And they're just going to move on from two Shawn Watson. What are the key factors in executing the digital marketing for tourism and hospitality

"For the last two episodes we have had a very vivid discussion about though wise. And what and today. of course it's going to be a little fun. Talk about the how part. I am with my guest on his head of eat. Tourism research at the university of eastern finland. So welcome you come again. High gripe to be here. This is the last episode. And i'm i'm really excited to get the opportunity to discuss these things about digital marketing with you again. It's it's been great so far. I'm really looking forward all of this episode. Well it's been a great learning experience for me. Also we are sort of. All of us are students because things are changing. If it's minute by minute but so quickly that we have to be able to be nimble and reactive on. What's happening around us. And i think that's where this how part of our feet series comes into the question so let's stocked with them. The point maybe the digital marketing tourism start from motto. Sora help us understand what are the first steps to consider. And and i think this episode bills quite nicely on top of the previous two episodes so we gone through how how the company mission the strategy actually should drive digital marketing. So all the decisions that you do in digital marketing should be. You should be able to connect them with your strategy and your mission and what you're doing bought it to say that it's also possible to do great business without that much thinking abou- strategies and missions. And if you are just able to provide a great customer experience and you are really good at sales and marketing you have all the possibilities to do fantastic basis and and being being able to be a successful With being really good at understanding your business model. But i think everything starts with the customer. So if you don't understand your customer and if you don't have this custom perspective on your own business Then it's it's getting really difficult to be to be successful. Doodoo business that that succeeds and think many times that that is a major issue with with businesses that they are so focused on what they have and how they can sail that while they have instead of looking at customers and understanding the customers one than what the customers need in. How else can be resold or hail wave. What will the company has a not just what we have at this moment but also thinking outside the box and looking at different ways to better serve the needs of of of a customer not alone and not relying just on what we have but also looking for new partnerships and new kind of marketing channels and and all different kinds of options. If you have this customer perspective on your business in are able to put yourself in in customers shoes. I think that's. That's the first. I've where wherever everything about marketing should should be built upon when when we are starting to think the channels and the messages and everything being able to put yourself in in the customer's shoes is fantastic skill to have and also is it so the two should be very specific about to your audiences and who you are. Who are you. Why are you servicing. I have noticed that people tend to get limit wide. They want to go all over the place rather than kind of laser focused on this. And then as you mentioned that the solving the problem i always is only interested in that. Solve the problem that they have not about your product right now so people are typically not interested about companies. People are interested in themselves and watson there for mia and businesses have to figure this out. That's how they tolkien communicate with customers. In last episode we talked about focusing on the benefits that the customer receives instead of the attributes of all we are a whole that will be our restaurant or or who we are as as a destination

"They sought his input. Because they wanted to make sure that he was satisfied with the situation here in that he wouldn't force his way out. James is also very intelligent, too like he's somebody who's input. I think the Russell Westbrook trade notwithstanding, he's somebody who I think I actually respect his basketball intellect. Nevertheless, back to the NFL. NFL owners are fearful that the new norm is going to become players when they become the least bit dissatisfied. That they're going to say I went out and I don't care that have a five year deal. You gave me a no trade clause. So find a trade partner that I like that I want to go to or I'm gonna make life miserable for you. I think some will be better at it than others. I don't know that to Shawn Watson is wired to make life miserable for the Texans. You know, showing up part way through this season or showing up in training camp, And just like James Harden showed up fat like it is to Shawn doesn't even have the physique to show up anywhere Fat. I don't know. That's what I thought you were going with it, Dennis. I disagree with the part about you know, just Hey, this is the new norm and flip your quarterback for a bunch of picks and then sign somebody in free agency. No, no, You don't want to do that. You You spend all these the time the energy the resource is to get it to Shawn Watson. There's a reason teams are willing to give up so much for him. So I disagree with that part. I think you I think you minimize the importance of a franchise quarterback. Now, as far as that Prescott goes, the Cowboys seem to agree with you right now. They seem to agree with you. They don't want to give him a five year deal. It would appear a long term deal with their pain and 40 year. At least that's not what they're Outwardly with their behavior would appear to be right now. Let's let's go back to the phones and let's go to two son, Denise Denise Europe on CBS Sports Radio. I'm John. Happy anniversary. Thank you. Thank you. Dennis stole my thunder. No, I've got friends that got married on the 29th, and he treats her on the 28. She treats him on the first. And I'm a 29. They go away for the night. Oh, that they do is take the day off the day after off. So they can still kind of lay around and Not have to report to work on the first after the 29th. Okay, so the 29th so they know that and Denise, that's kind of what we were. You know, we we obviously discussed this kind of stuff and we set our wedding date initially mostly just laughed about it. But But they were the ones where it's actually the 29th are going to get treated like a bigger deal. So I like I like where you're going to need. I really appreciate the advice. I like where you're going with that. For those who don't know what it is, Denise is calling in about it's this all important topic. Off my wedding anniversary. I got married a year ago on February 29th and obviously for three out of four years, February 29th doesn't exist. So I'm seeking your advice on how to do this Now, I probably should have done this. Maybe I would have done this last week. Except there was this little problem in Houston of the city, shutting down because the weather got below 32 degrees. Our entire city shut down and all the power and everything. So I was a little preoccupied last week, so I took last week off. This would have been a better question for last week. You know, now it's occurring. Like we're in it right now. Right? Right. Like when I'm going. Should I celebrate it on the 28th or on march? 1st? Well, guess what. Idiot. I'm talking to me. Not you guys. It's the 28th right now. I guess what you're doing. You're working. May I say I'm working? I'm I'm on the radio talking about sports that it's not real work. There's people doing like manual labor like this guy's working talking about the Shawn Watson. Um so yeah, that that's what I'm Denise. I like your idea. I like your idea. We we each get to be the king or queen of one of the days. The 28th or the first and then to the 29th is just a gigantic shebang. It's a huge deal. I like that. 855212 Four, CBS. You know what? I don't want to shortchange anybody. We're coming up on the top of the hour here. Suddenly don't want to shortchange anybody and not be able to react to what it is. You have to say. So if you're on hold, stay there. 855 to 1 to four CBS in the In the next hour In the four o'clock Eastern hour. We talked about the Shawn Watson this hour. The other quarterback where there's a moderate amount of drama surrounding him right now is Russell Wilson. Significantly less drama. Then to Sean. And justifiably so, like the stuff that Russell Wilson is dealing with to me. Just seems kind of like just little Picayune, NFL normal stuff. He just doesn't like that. He says he's having to deal with it. You know, his name is getting Mixed into trade rumors a couple of years ago who the team was scouting other quarterback so He doesn't like that They call a bunch of run place. That's my impression. At least I say all that to say that this hour we will talk to somebody from Seattle. To find out if I'm off base on that should I be saying that Russell Wilson comes across a little whiny in that athletic article? We'll talk about that with Matt Nicholas. Who is the host on 9 50. K. J. R. In Seattle. And we'll find out what the people think of Russell Wilson and kind of us think that he's making Significa significantly less pungent stink than to Shawn Watson is making because Russell Wilson has not asked for a trade. Mm hmm. He's done. What feels like this is why I can't wait to talk to someone who covers Russell Wilson because I feel like if I had to pick a quarterback. Who's Whose dissatisfaction is summed up by him still wanting to be with the team. But if you were to trade me these are the four teams that I would go to It would be Russell Wilson. That's my feel on it. Like this softest soft trade demand of all time. No, no, no. I want to be a Seahawk unless you've you know, want to trade me to the Cowboys or the Saints or the Raiders repairs. Those four teams..

"John. Do you think teams might be motivated to see the beginning of free agency as a time to really make the Godfather offer for to Shawn so that they can head into free agency with a clear pictures to what their team in there? Tap are gonna look like? No, I think there's going to come to the right before the draft. And teams don't know what the salary caps gonna be yet hopefully that they had to know, of course, by the start of the league here on March, 17th, But now I think something like this involving draft picks. Is going to go in April. John McClane. Joining me on the show. John J. J. Watt. What's What's your sense on JJ Watt and his timeframe for getting something done. Gil wanted side once teams know the salary cap that'll make it easier to make a deal with him because there are some teams. Had wanted that have salary cap issues. They don't know right now what the cab's gonna be, Um, I still think my favorites are Tennessee and Green Bay at the top. I don't think he's going to Pittsburgh Day. No need in. Plus, they don't need defense. They need our friends. They need a running game and they got big time cap issues, said Tennessee had cleared you know where there's a will. There's a way he would be a better fit there than anywhere in the league. They had 19 sacks last year, and they were still 11 and 51 division is not important to him that he plays against the Texans twice again, but that wouldn't hurt what is shine? No. No, I absolutely think you like playing against his brother's a couple times a year. Two of you were to go to Baltimore, Cleveland or a team like that, John for sure. Hey, John. What do you make? There was a report that there was a team offering. JJ Watt 15 to $16 million. Are you buying that? No, I don't buy that because number one salary cap had been set. If any team offering that kind of money, it's got to be a really bad one with a lot of money unless it's Indianapolis and I have no idea what Chris Ballard wants to do. That had been his M O to give out big free agent contracts, especially after they made the great trade last year for deport. Butner, and I don't think that Waddle end up with a bad team a lot of camp money and make this decision based on finances. I think it's about having fun and having a chance to go to the Super Bowl, which he would not have had. With the Texans. I agree with all of that. John McClane, the Hall of Famer, the great John McClane joining me on CBS Sports Radio. IBM's Watson Illustrates Why Applying A.I. to Healthcare Is So Hard

"About a decade ago. Ibm rolled out watson. One of the earliest artificial intelligence systems out. There watson was a big deal for ibm. You might remember that even went on and absolutely crushed the human competition it was a milestone in how we think about our relationship to computers and ibm wanted to take that technology and apply it to helping doctors diagnosed and cure cancer. But things didn't exactly happen that way and last week we reported that ibm was exploring a sale of its watson health unit. So what happened. And what does this tell us about the challenges of applying ai to healthcare for answers we turn to our digital science editor daniella hernandez hate mail. Thanks for joining me. Thanks for having me. So whereas watson now and what happened well i mean the struggles at ibm with watson. Been around for a little while. We reported in two thousand eighteen that the technology was really not getting the market share and adoption that it needed to make good on all the investments in all the acquisitions that ibm made in order to make watson a leader in the ai in healthcare field and so three years or so later it signals that you know the technology maybe wasn't working as well as they would have hoped. I think more. Broadly points to the fact that you know just having data or collaborations with leading scientists around the country. That just isn't enough and the reason is you know. Healthcare is complicated. So there's a lot of human issues at stake here. You know people do things differently. Like depending on which hospital you're at louisville depending on which doctor you're you're you're seeing but also the data in healthcare is messy for some of those same reasons you know you might input into a medical chart differently than me and for an i i might as well be two completely different things and so just that standardization of the information is really critical but also really hard and so when ibm started making these huge investments in watson they started buying up all these companies that had a lot of seemingly great data and the data might have been perfect but those data were basically styles from each other. They couldn't talk to each other and they never quite figured out how to meld them together. So they were cohesive data set of product. That really could make good on the promise that they that they saw. Fortunately has never materialized. And of course we should note here. That ibm says that watson has had some successes and that they're still believers in that technology we've been talking about. Ibm's new ceo. Arvind krishna on the show and following. He's been trying to of revitalize this legacy company how the sale of watson health fit into his efforts. Well i think one huge thing that has changed since the birth of watson. If you will is that you've had these other huge not legacy players come into the field. You've got google facebook amazon even microsoft right which you might consider a legacy company but they really rebranded themselves to. They weren't as big when watson. I came on the scene. And so now you've got this against storied legacy company competing with these new players. Who when they started making investments in. Ai were a lot more nimble and so they made investments in what at the time seemed like really experimental ai technology and now looking back like deep mind. Google investing hundreds of millions of dollars in that that technology just basically took over the world and ibm didn't really invest in that technology at the time and now is behind because all the talent is has been sucked into google facebook amazon apple And so they're they're behind.

Philadelphia Eagles trade QB Carson Wentz to Indianapolis Colts for two draft picks

"Story of the day. The Eagles have traded quarterback Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts and oh my goodness. It made me very happy. I was so excited. There's a lot to unpack. I want to start though by mentioning a weird thing first. In the 2016 NFL draft the number and overall pick was Jared Goff. The number two overall pick was Carson Wentz. And both have been traded away from the teams. They were drafted by 19 days apart. Just a weird quick doesn't happen very often the guy a number and overall pick a number 2 overall pick gets traded away. Especially not the quarterback position. Let alone almost in just over two weeks apart from each other. That's crazy. Pretty wild now after the trade the Eagles have a 33.8 Million Dead money. Salary cap charge for the 2021 NFL season what that means I will get into that in a minute. First of all, that's actually by the way the most ever to have dead money cap. I guess charge or penalties by an NFL team. It's so much that I actually thought that might keep the Eagles from trading cars and stuff like that might be so much of a penalty. They're not even getting rid of the guy sounds like they did. I thought it's good for everybody Carson Wentz wanted out they I think we're you know, we'll talk about Jalen hurts in a minute, but I thought it was good to get Carson out of there. It is also kind of weird and interesting I talked about Jared Goff previously very briefly the other the the record for the most amount of dead money against the salary cap was Jared Goff. The Rams amount is 22.2 million dollars off. Beat 19 days later by the Carson Wentz trade what is dead money? You may ask it's basically all the guaranteed money the Eagles still owe Carson Wentz after the trade. So even though Carson is no longer on their team. He still creates a thirty three point eight million dollar cap hit for next year. So over thirty-three million dollars off of the salary cap has taken up for Philadelphia. They cannot use that money for other players. It's weird. It's interesting. It's never that's again the most ever pretty interesting. I was surprised that you know, they still trade off a given that but in the trade the Colts got Carson Wentz so the cold they get their quarterback that the replacement Philip Rivers the replacement for Andrew Luck. I'm happy for the Colts man. They've they've Way to make it work. They lost in Turlock. They had to scramble the Mage Jacoby Brissett work for a year. They made Philip Rivers work for a year. Now. They've got what they believe is their franchise guide Carson Wentz good for them. The Eagles got a 2001 third-round pick for the upcoming NFL draft and a conditional 2022 second-round pick and here's what's really cool. The condition. Is that if Carson Wentz plays 75% off Kohls offensive snaps for next year if it stays healthy place the whole year or you know, it's good enough to be the starter all years and get benched. Then that draft pick goes from a second round pick in 2022 to a first-round picks. Oh, wow. I like about that. People are saying the Eagles got a horrible trade. They got fleeced. It's terrible. Oh my goodness. You gotta realize this is probably the best trade they could possibly find the Eagles traded away Carson Wentz a guy who has an injury history has been injured repeatedly over the years. He's coming off of a horrible season where he was so bad the dude got benched for Jalen hurts a rookie quarterback Club. So the fact that Philadelphia made a trade where they have an opportunity to get a first-round pick that's impressive to me. I think people realize that's the best they were going to get so anybody criticizing Philadelphia you did not realize how I think how little value Carson Wentz really had on the market people like nobody really wants him. I think JJ Watts getting a ton of attention Carson Wentz people are very wary. And I think it's really what's really disappointed me. Is that the Bears didn't get him. What did the Bears did the Bears not want him? I don't understand. Maybe they're trying to John Watson feel like the Bears really lost here. They still got home key who Carson Wentz has problems I think is way better than Mitchell trubisky. So debate that all you want. I don't know how you go. Like. Oh the Bears they got a great quarterback still trubisky. I like it. I think another thing people got realize is that I love the trade for Carson Wentz. He's going to a way better team he gets to play for his former offensive coordinator Frank back in 2017 the best year Carson Wentz ever had in the NFL. He was a before he got hurt. He was an MVP candidate playing under Frank Reich. He's reuniting with that guy that's going to be awesome to got a great relationship and EM the Colts have a great offensive line. They've got to get running game. They've got a great defense Carson Wentz is being put into a great situation. If he does not do well then there's no excuse. You can make he's got great great team around him good support good people. He's getting helped.

Philadelphia Eagles agree to trade QB Carson Wentz to Indianapolis Colts

"So carson wentz traded to the colts again. We knew the colts were looking for a vet. We knew that the eagles were looking to move carson wentz. Whether you know you think that's wednesdays fall and the eagles thinking he's just not good whether you think has jalen hurts and the fact that they feel like he's promising young rookie who who pushed the vet out or whether you feel like. They're going to draft another rookie early. You know it doesn't really matter what matters is that will and we'll discuss that. Like i said another episode but what does matter this episode is carson wentz and the colts less. What will happen i. The eagles traded wentz for a twenty twenty one third round pick and a conditional twenty twenty two second rounder. Which if he plays seventy five percent of the snaps and twenty twenty one or seventy percent and the clothes made the playoffs then it becomes a first round selection in two thousand twenty two. I mean that's really not a lot. Not a lot honestly is really not. I mean if he is the franchise quarterback that the colts expect him to be since they made this trade even if it turns into a first round pick a third round pick. It's really not a lot. It's a lot free. Starting franchise quarterback. I mean. We just seen what staffer forgot. We hear what the texts wofford shawn. Watson it's this is really a lot no matter how you look at it however so from an ego standpoint like i said i don't wanna talk too much about the eagles on this episode but for an eagle standpoint. I don't feel like they got a lot But maybe this was the most they can get. They wanted to get rid of his salary. They wanted to move on so they do understandable understand. That's what you wanna do. You wanna do what you wanna do. Go for but i'm not a fan of giving them up for that for that for that price tag out at least a guarantee i. I can't be doing this whole conditional. I need a guarantee i number one number two round pick makomo give us some second round picks for picks to i get a player involved in their something so yeah from the eagles now point if i'm an eagles fan i'm a little annoyed. I'm pissed off. It'd be honest. He traded a quarterback who some of you believe instill and you didn't get a whole back and we know how hard it is to find. Quarterbacks like real quarterbacks legit quarterbacks so not happy from the from the standpoint of that but for the colts that is a win if wentz is who they think he is. That's a win. That's straight up win as all there is to it. So great job by the colts just for the price tag that it took to get him whence so far in his career. It's been pretty up and down right. I mean he's dealt with injuries. He's dealt with a bad team up. You know at times. That wasn't the greatest they didn't have the best of performances overall you know but carson wentz. I mean if you if you if you look at his career. He's been in the league for five years. I guess last year though some injuries doesn't eighteen he injuries and seventeen. I believe he has some injuries. So he's he's only had two full years. I believe he played every game but Regardless i mean he's had a really good seasons and then he's asked like not so great like last year was pretty bad. You know minus effectively play twelve games. Names a did play. It was bad it was his worst season.

"Gardner. Great answer rapist. Tremendous answer right there. I mean, John, this idea of drafting a quarterback. I know you kind of push back at me sometimes on it, But isn't it something? If the Eagles Have to at least consider They have to know what you think. I don't consider it that that Jalen hurts from now until 2030 is going to be a top 10 quarterback, and we know that Yeah, I guess. Uh, I hate the idea. I think we are, man. The optics look weird. I mean, they, d O I I recognize that horrendous optics and also I don't think you've got enough to go on with with Jalen hurts, and I think you'll continue to grow. He is. He's got the right mentality to grow into this position. Give him a chance. Give him a year. I If you're going to draft a quarterback don't do it in the first round, you know, maybe I would like to see them bring in an old head veteran and maybe a late round rookie. If you're going to go that route, but Wasting a topic just because you're at number six. Well, you don't know it's late, but you don't know what's wasted. I mean, the guy could be really good. I mean, that's the idea, checking some one of the top 10. Sure, but I don't trust them to evaluate that properly. I say. With the way we draft trade back is often as humanly possible to get as many pixels you can because we need to build with rookie deals across the board with our money problems, and with Our age problems are personnel problems. We have more holes than then you can fill in a draft. That's for sure. And we don't have any money to spend on free agency. You have to trade back. Don't even think about going the quarterback route. They're not going to be evaluated properly this year, and I'm not completely thrilled about the crop. So now I could be way off base there. There are a lot of people who didn't foresee the Patrick Mahomes just chair beauty of his game. When he was coming out. The Eagles were one of them. And this was brought up yesterday, Howie Roseman said Back in 2016 the reason he traded up to draft Carson Wentz is because he had foreseen that there was no talent on the horizon in the next year or two in the quarterback crop. Well, Did. Shawn Watson and Patrick Mahomes were in the next quarter. I don't know. They said. No talent. I don't really remember. But I assume he would have indicated. I remember him saying something along the lines was of Carson Wentz is the best thing coming along this highway for quite some time enough. I I se you stick and try to develop what you've got. Get it, Get a veteran backup trade back Get lineman linemen and some skilled scums skill. Guys on the defense is one other thing in all this. I would strongly encourage everybody to consider. Which is how it's smart for the Eagles to at least floats. Two teams in the NFL. The concept that they might draft a quarterback is it can increase the Eagles leverage if they want to trade down. So just just recognize that chatter about the Eagles. Taking a quarterback doesn't necessarily mean they're even considering it. It could be a ploy to try to get a team to jump from

What they're saying: Philadelphia Eagles, Wentz or other teams — who has the leverage?

"All about away. Bought away by the way. The miami dolphins got their guy. I just meant they got us. That dude is they got a guy young guy so let's put some. what are we talking about. Let's put the question. Then this way. And by the way i would say this right now to are coordinating producer. Pete mcconville and our producer. Allie grenade. i don't understand how we do not yet have a feature called jeff saturday. Who's high this week. I mean every week jeff. Hester name that's got to become a tuesday stable. Is this week. We make a segment out of everything on this show but markets very quickly. If the dolphins get forgetting about guam if the dolphins get to shawn watson are they the biggest threat to kansas city in the afc next year. Yeah they are. And i know i say that because i saw were buffalo did. But i'm taking the sean before. I take josh allen and their defense. I'm taking miami. Defense with the sean. Look the inspire football. You play when you have a guy at that position that you know you can't win wit. It takes it to a different level. I love how floor is coaching. But i do think that sometimes going in and out with fits magic and into mayor. Put this team in kabul unknown territory. About what their identity was offensively and the defense never had a question. About what their identity. Would you bring this on. You answer that question. That's our quarterback. Raise the level of play of everybody around you. Oh and yeah let me tell you why. Because he threw for the most yards went out of number one receive on team this year. That's how good he is. Listen this is a no brainer. I would love to see desha watson and josh allen go toe-to-toe for years to come in that division and see who can make it out and then get the kansas city potentially in the afc championship bottom line in miami. They've been trying to find the next dan marino for twenty years. They thought maybe you're still may have him into a tunga vilo but shawn watson is as much more. A known commodity will see if that plays out. Meanwhile quarterback rumors are everywhere including these that the eagles wanna move carson wentz. We know that. What kind of market are they. Finding darlington has the very latest. It could be very interesting. Plus lebron james having another mvp caliber season. You'll hear why jay williams thinks he should win the academy award as well. That's on the way this is get up on. Espn do you own. Read your home share. You and i bet it can be hard work. You know it's easy bundling policies with geico geico makes it easy to bundle your homeowner's or renter's insurance along with your auto policy. It's a good thing too because you already have so much to do around your home. Go to geico dot com. Get a quote and see how much you could save. Its gyco easy visit. Geico dot com. Today that's geico dot com on. We go get up. And another of the quarterback trade sagas continues this one involving that main carson wentz whom league sources believe is on the way out of philadelphia and the eagles may also explore options with his longtime tight. Ends zach ertz. Perhaps philly could include ertz in a wentz package to maximize trade value. Words has one year and eight point. Two five million dollars left on his contract it look. There's a whole lot of speculation in jeff darlington insider here. I'll start with you as to why no deal has been worked out with wentz yet and one of the ways that i look at it from afar is maybe eagles. Just overestimate what it is. People might be willing to give up for wentz at this point when you consider the contract that he has. It's essentially the same circumstance as jared goff in los angeles and the rams had to pay a team to take him off their hands. So is that how similar or those situations and could that be. What's holding this thing up. Well very possible. Greedy speaking with a source with the eagles who certainly understand everything. That's going on with this deal. And you know the one thing that he said. I said what's the holdup here in his answers february sixteenth. Today lear doesn't even start for another month by a bunch of exclamation points and there is something certainly to that. March nineteenth is the date that they'd have to decide on paying him. That ten million dollar rostov on this. This is the runway that they're working with now. Of course you do want to make sure that you make the most of your leverage multiple teams involved. You don't wanna lose one of those teams and then Maybe cost yourself some compensation from that other team but we can point out here that This this source also told me that there is no no trade clause in carson wentz deal so it doesn't really matter say he wants to go to the colts but they're getting more compensation from the bears. They could just send him to the bears. It wouldn't be a problem

Will Cam Newton return to Patriots?

"Now. We're having a conversation about Cam Newton. It's February. Yes. But it's been in the media It's been reported via reporters. Former players former teammates active teammates is recently is this past season. Folks have said that you know, they wouldn't mind if Cam Newton returned to the Patriots. Devin McCourty said that trade Turner's former teammate blocker for the Carolina Panthers says he has a lot left in the tank. It's not out of the realm of possibility for him to return. Obviously, the New England Patriots, a woman can have some options if they should try and pursue a trade. I don't know. If it is they have Ah, great selection of people to choose from when it comes down to drafting. But at number 15. We'll see who might be available. Stood him obviously, isn't the answer. I'm looking at one of my tweets right now, Cleveland at Heart says, and you could sweep me too. At J. R Sport brief, he says. I think Cam could end up back in New England, but I'm certainly checking in on a few guys first. Wants in Garoppolo a. Maybe even checking in on guys like Wentz and Winston. Um, you know about that. Jimmy Garoppolo. Damn it. We got to see if he's healthy. It's been reported that the 40 Niners are okay with bringing him back. If they don't get their hands on Watson Jamis Winston. I think he'd be best sir, sticking to where he's at where he's had one year to sit behind Drew Brees and a system I think that would be his best option. I saw? Yeah. Is Cam Newton a number one option? I don't believe so. But I think on a second go around a specially if the Patriots can return or actually bring in some weapons. I think the results might be different. Around his Cam Newton the same player. No, I don't think so. At the same time, I think it was more so with what about what the Patriots had or did not have last year. And the circumstances of him being added to the team than it was about Cam just being cooked.

Detroit Pistons will sit Blake Griffin while team considers trade, buyout

"Watson routes give espn dot com has reported that not only. Is andre drummond. Kind of getting shut down for this whole trade talk discussion but also his former detroit. Pistons teammate blake griffin. It sounds like we'll be held out of the lineup. Until they can sort of figure out what his next move is is there a trade available for blake griffin or does this have to be a very extensive buyout situation where you know blazing to give some money out to get his freedom to go play for a good team. How do you resolve. This blake griffin situation. And why are they going to shut him down. I mean he's been very rough. So far this season i think a lot of people have noticed that he hasn't had a single dunk all year. Which just seems incomprehensible for the player. He was earlier in his career. He's basically a three point line. Two three point line Shooter at this point if you wanna put it that way in terms of his impact Is there a way out for detroit. Here or what are they doing man the blake griffin situation is is pretty rough Yeah he just hasn't had a very good season not moving. While he's only thirty one which is like hard to believe. Honestly i you just look at them and you think that. He's like in his late thirties. Ve how long he's been in our like our collective conscience and how great he used to be You would like to think that he could have an impact a positive impact on a championship contender. I don't know if that's possible anymore. Especially when he's not hitting the three ball and he's not hitting the three ball even though he takes a bunch of them so i don't know man like it will be. It'll be really interesting if they do. Waive him even though like. I don't have the limit. I'm trying to find the contract numbers. I know he's still oh quite a bit of money. So that's gonna be really interested this year. It's thirty six point five next year. He's got a player option for thirty eight point nine. Oh so you're not gonna get anything close to that this summer. So the buyouts to have to kind of reflect that if they did kind of pursue that direction mean maybe. They're just trying to hope that they can construct a trade to dump him onto someone else's someone else eats that money next year. I don't know how you really get out of that. I mean it could be a situation where they've just decided look man like your body's not they're just take some time and hope that you can kind of get into a better spot but mean it does kind of look unsalvageable for him at this point you know and i hate to say that because there were times for derrick rose where looked unsalvageable to and he's come back to make himself like a valuable role player in certain situation You know is there. A role for a blake griffin lake career bench renaissance where he follows the carmelo anthony model right and he's only play in like sixteen minutes a game and he gives you good sixteen eighteen minutes and that's it Could that be like a second chapter for him. I don't know. But i think this idea of him as fulltime starter. Impact guy or major contributor is is basically done.

For now, he said There were a number of hypotheses about the origins of the virus, the most likely that it moved from one animal to an intermediate animal host and from there to humans, But the theory that it originated in a laboratory or escaped from one has not been ruled out. Neither has the possibility that frozen meat Could have played a role in transmitting the virus to humans. China responded today, saying the U. S. "One of the top five quarterbacks in the league. it's just not. I did this on radio today. And basically i said who would be an untouchable in a trade for stafford. And i said there's one untouchable in a trade for stafford in its shakes young and for me. The reasoning is is the thirty three years of age and the truth is stafford. Isn't isn't to shawn watson. However i agreed to different deals however for deshaun watson and i tried to explain to callers who disagreed with me vehemently and and it's fine because i do think that there is first of all the debate. If you wouldn't trade chase young for shawn watson is that you don't think too shawn watson is a top five quarterback. You don't think he's truly one of the elite quarterbacks and if you don't think that then that is a fair conclusion. I happen to think he is in that. He's going to get better And so if you do believe. He's an elite quarterback. Like one of the top three to five quarterbacks in maybe he even climbs on that list you know as he starts to enter as prime which by the way. He's still a couple of years away from You you do it so quickly that i it's it's it's such. It's such a no brainer in. I put it in these terms. Tommy if shawn watson had been on the team this year and chase young weren't on the team. I think they would have won ten games nine or ten and there would have been a chance that they'd still be playing now. I think they probably would have lost to you. Know green bay or maybe even tampa bay and they would've played tampa in the first round. But let's just say that they ended up having a they would have been a team that would have been two to three games better and would have had a chance to win. Playoff games this year and by the way would have been a future next year year after super bowl. Pick for a lot of people now. I agree with all that chase young. All they won seven games now. He missed some games and by the way he was a rookie and he got better and better and better. And i'd hate to trade him by the. I wanna make sure i'm really clear on this. He was my favourite player on the team. Even though i was very critical of his game against tampa. I did not think he played well against tampa. I think the defense has a whole basically post against tampa and that's why they didn't have as good of a chance to win that game despite the magic of taylor heineke and now all the pedals being thrown at his feet But i i absolutely think that chase young is a player that has a chance to be the best player at his position in the nfl. And that's the first player on this team. That i could say that. About since sean taylor. Trent williams was never the best player at left tackle in the league. He's never never the best left tackle me. He was a top three to five guy. Never the best chase young within a year or two could be the best four three defense event pass rusher you know in the nfl. It would kill me to trade him but for a top three to five quarterback no brainer no-brainer now. What else would they in that deal. to me chase young is a first round pick in a high first round. Pick going into his second year. And if they're requiring three. I what it would be. It would be number nineteen this year. It would be your first next year and it would be chase young and and you and people are like. What are you talking about chase young end to i Maybe it's chase young. I and a third or i in a second. But you're not getting away for chase young for shawn watson straight up which should tell you automatically that if you don't think you should trade that you should throw in Chase young as part of a deal for watson. There's an anybody in the league. That wouldn't do that straight up. Unless they had watson evaluated as not as high as most people do. If you don't think watching the top you know an elite quarterback. Well then you don't do that. Obviously but if you think. He's an elite quarterback. Paul you go for it. This is just the football part of it. I mean you're not going to have to convince the owner who may love chase young for all. I know being the local star. You know you're not going to have to convince the owner that you know. He should trae chase young for shawn watson. The star power difference between chase young in washington shawn in washington are two drastically different things. I mean if your quarterback is the showing washington in the nation's capital right. Now let's say for the next five to seven years. I mean you know. I mean there there there. There's your marketing tool right. They're they're they're here. They're both what you thought you had with robert griffin the third Look the bottom line is. That's a major hypothetical and chase. Young may not be something that houston would require back anyway. They might just say we need this year's first your twenty twenty two i. You're twenty twenty. Three i and we also need you know a third rounder from this year and it may be all draft capital in washington doesn't have the same level of draft capital that say The jets or the dolphins have an example Anyway or or by the way even new england has because then the new england patriots have a higher pick then washington for the first time in twenty years So you've got you've got teams with a higher pick held the forty niners have a higher pick But the jets and dolphins each. Have two first round picks. You know the jets have the second and the twenty third overall and so they could deal those to end their first rounder next year because the first rounders so high this year. That might do it. Three i for watson straight up. The dolphins could could do that as well Look my position has been as it relates to stafford and watson I would I would make no players Untouchable in deal for watson. I would make chase young untouchable in a deal for For matt stafford And i know some of you th think that you should make. Terry maclaurin untouchable to terry. Mclaren's nowhere near the level of chase. Young terry mma not going to be the best player at his position in the league. I think he could be a top ten receiver. Some of you think he is already. I don't know if he's that he's clearly a top half of the league number one wideout with great potential and by the way great culture guy to you talked about yesterday or the day before. How much. Ron rivera loves jon allen. Which is why. I would bet on a contract extension for jon allen. Not him being part of a trade. If i was forced about one way or the other Chase young would be my only untouchable in the deal for stafford I wouldn't have. Anybody untouchable in the deal for watson but the bottom line tommy is. I don't think washington is going to end up with either one of those two players I think they're going to be a better options for the two teams trading those players. I don't even know if washington will be you know reach out..

jon allen robert griffin sean taylor Trent williams Terry maclaurin taylor heineke Ron rivera deshaun watson Tommy Mclaren next year year seven games yesterday two Paul two players shawn watson ten thirty three years ten games

"Him. They went to him and asked his advice and guidance on the direction that he taught they should go for a new head coach and general manager. It went so far as him going out to dinner with mcnair the team's owner and then the texans hire a search firm one ferry that they pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to and in the end. Fire that firm and turnaround and leeann jack easterby to make a decision. That doesn't take into consideration. Anything that show watson said so. They went to him for advice and then didn't use it in the decision to hire nicosia. Reo from the new england patriots. Nicosia who's waited an awful long time for general manager. Job takes this job and steps into a situation where he has no idea that his quarterback is about to ask for trade which he does. And so. Let me say this. Also what does shawn watson feels is not exclusive to him in that organization. I can tell you. Having spoken to many people in that organization there are similar gripes. similar unhappiness nicotera when he stepped in there. I think it's fair to say stepped into a burning building and that building has caught fire even more. And when you've got the face your franchise one of the transcendent talents. Not just in football but in all of sports refusing to play for that team anymore and wanting to be traded. That tells you what a problem there is. adam. I think most people would agree. That given to sean watson's reputation. If there's a problem with the shawn watson people aren't looking at him they're looking at the organization and generally this stuff comes out of dysfunction so i understand the answer is really both but if i had to ask you is it more. What would you answer. Is it more the idea that he was disrespected. And the way this was handled was distasteful to him or was it more competitive interest in other words. The texans had a very bad record after making a very stupid trade. What do you think is motivating the behavior more between the two combination of everything. Max i think that he watches the way that his career is gone. Didn't one of the cameras capture. Jj watt going over to the shawn watson into the season and apologizing for wasting his talents and wasting his season. And i think that that's a mood. I can tell you. There are texans pleasure former texas players on other teams who have reached out who have scoffed at some of the things that they experienced poor noticed or saw in that organization. And i think that callum mcnair has allow things to happen year. That shouldn't happen. In the opinion of players and people in that organization and it is basically filtered down to his quarterback who feels the same way that many people do and so. There's a cleansing that needs to take place here and unfortunately for the texans. It's going to be too late to do that with the shawn watson. Is your quarterback in my opinion. Because let's play this out. Let's say the houston. Texans say we know you want to trade. We're not going to trade you will. Then he doesn't show up. And are they going to go draft another quarterback or they going to go sign another quarterback they have did make some sort of planet quarterback but at the shaw watson's dug in and refuses to report. They're stuck and it certainly sounds like at the spot that he is now they can call chicken and challenge him and say we're not gonna treat your good. Where's that can go. What's going to happen. Then and so again. I come back this. I think of this all the time. You're nicosia radio. The new england patriots. You've been requested to injury for any number of general manager jobs and you just took the one. That was the booby price. You just took the one with the house on fire. You just took the one where you're stepping into a situation. I don't think you had any idea that you were stepping into adam schefter. I'm looking at the. I'm looking at the new york jets. They've got the number two overall pick and the twenty third overall pick in the nfl draft. Plus they've got. I think number thirty four and around two. Or what have you just using them. As an example if a team out the assuming because there's going to be a lot of sudas deshaun watson services obviously what teams do you believe are in the best position to make a deal with the houston texas in order to acquire somebody to caliber of addition watson. Well here's stephen. To shawn watson as a no trade clause and again. That's something looking back at the houston. Texans probably should not have given him but they did and they empowered him and now that he's got the power he can help influence where he goes. Now i think show watson is smart enough to realize that if hypothetically the dallas cowboys offering one first round draft pick and the miami dolphins were offering three first round draft picks he can't dictate entirely where he goes because he could always say i'm not taking you trade here or there but i think the biggest point is the sean watching this open to going to a lot of places he would go to a lot of different places he doesn't want to be in houston anymore. He's done with the texans so the question is where does he go. What would you accept. Who would he turn down. There are certain teams. I think that obviously the miami dolphins have a tone of draft ammunition capital and they play for coach. I think the sean watching would be really happy about playing for the change. Another team need a quarterback. You blow it with houston. Texans photo max. Hold on max. I gotta ask this other question too because again considering what adam just described houston texas situation the be should we stop at the shawn watson or their we say. Should we expect something very very similar in regards to j. J. watt who walked over to george watson and apologized for wasting his talents this season. What can you tell us about. Jj watt and houston. Well you'd have to ask. Jj what i'm going to surmise. That many players feel the same way. That watson does many players okay. i can't speak for any one of them specifically but you think that they wouldn't feel that way would be naive. Okay this is not just a situation. That's unique to shawn watson. there's cancer let me ask you. This atom the texans organization concerned about their dirty laundry being aired out here in more of these details. You know listen. I don't know how they feel about that. They've been busy running a coaching search. They've been doing that sort of thing. I can't be pleased about it..

"And to me. This is all the benefits of having a mobile quarterback without the things that i think kyle shanahan does not want. I think the number one thing how shanahan does not want is for a mobile quarterback to drop back check as i read too quickly and then run out of the pocket or try and scramble before his play has a chance to work like that would drive him nuts but to shawn watson is not that guy. He's not going to run out of clean pockets. He's not going to do that stuff. So you get the benefit of him being able to make. Mike mcglinchey is pass rusher miss but also being able to not get out of things too early. I'm surprised that it took this long for you to take a shot at mcglinchey honestly but yeah no. That's a good point. Just because if anything watson is ignorant or obnoxious to holding onto the bar going through to make progressions instead of running like hey man run for eight yards and get the first down. But i think that's just because everything will be a pocket passer but again just as far as what shanahan would ask for what he wants healthy quarterback number one very very very talented quarterback. So if you just take away from his athletic skills talk about throwing the ball in tight windows. Accuracy velocity arm strength. Everything that you want from a quarterback he has man and I'd i would love to get i. I'm probably going to get into arguments all offseason. If he's even if he's not with forty-nine is that he is the second best quarterback but he's he was out of this world in twenty twenty he just checks every single possible box. I've met him. I've talked to him a little. He seems like a. He doesn't seem like this premadonna type guy which you might think. Because he's unhappy with the team. He never strikes me as that kind of guy. He strikes me as a good team. Guy a solid person who's just being mistreated by his company. You kinda see that in the videos were. Jj watch talking about him or jj watch walking with him. His teammates genuinely feel like disappointed. They let him down. I think that kind of tells you about the person. He is more than any sort of charities or whatever that we can see him posing and pictures would prove. That is a good point and that's what they always talk about. What garoppolo right like how. Much the teammates like him. Imagine having a guy that teammates like and exactly good. That can be one or the other we have to choose. No that's a fair point. But again i just this pipedream now now. Hopefully maybe we should. Just do a podcast. Every week about shawn watson until it comes through. Let's just do that. I'm sure to shawn's agent knows that. Kyle shanahan needs a quarterback. I'm sure his agent knows. Hey look this dude wins. Mvp's for people in his system. Like if the sean says i'm done get me outta here. The niners would be on the shortlist. Yeah florio mike. Mike florio pro football talk and obviously everybody knows how he feels about the forty niners but he said in that article he wrote that the forty niners are the most obvious fit. And i feel like the further. We get into this if this continues to be a thing. That watson is unhappy. We probably start to hear more and more rumors how the forty niners are interested in. So let's keep this thing. Let's keep this thing rolling baby and let me tell you. I worked with mike florio every day for five years. He's not putting that thing in there about the forty niners by accident. He's putting it in there because he hears things and he knows thing like i can tell you. I know how mike operates. So that was another reason why. I was so pumped up when i saw it. Oh god we haven't even gotten to the offseason yet and it's already crazy. We're already talking about this. John freaking watson. the season ended. What four days or just not even a week ago. And we're talking about fantasy. Land like john watson and we talked about trading for justin field. Talking about zack wilson We talk about stafford. We haven't even gotten to trading for other positions or free agents who first week of january baby. Welcome to the offseason by the way before we go really quickly. I saw these odds from novado. About where matt stafford will play week. One or two thousand twenty one. Did you see these. no. I didn't but i won. I imagine that the forty niners are not low on that list. So detroit's favorite their minus two fifteen right now. The number two favorite and this surprise me. Indianapolis was plus three fifty interesting. And then you get to washington and chicago. Six to one plus six hundred and then san francisco at seventy one. Wow that's lower than. I would think i actually to. I wouldn't have guessed the colts and not just an obviously philip rivers is. I think he's on a one year deal and he's probably on his way out but you just wouldn't use win. You haven't heard much about the colts really and stafford. So i don't know may be usually knows these things but then again you know we now. That could just be all different than we have the see. You're willing to combine. I'd imagine i'd wanna see those odds after the combine. Because that's where we're really going to find out about what's going on the nfl. That's when people start to talk and have discussions so keep a february fifteenth and whenever the combine is. That's when we'll start to get into it. I totally agree. There's there's so much tampering that goes on a by the way i think the culture going after carson wentz. That's just my frank reich. Is there he had once. They could probably get him for not very much because the eagles wanna get rid of them. That's just my early super bowl offseason prediction but anyway say tune. We who knows what's gonna happen. It's fun to dream about. It probably won't happen. But i appreciate the time. Kyle thank you for hopping on with mean indulging my crazy quarterback fantasies my pleasure. I just wanna shout out deforest buckner as well first team all pro so go you. You deserve it congrats. And by the way grant colin the forty niners did not trade deforest buckner because they thought he stunk. am in a structure that he wanted to knock it off. You know what you're doing. knock it off. "I think that's gonna be how they look at it more of not if he needs to shawn watson because i mean in his mind he's probably thinking about the the crazy things he can do just with watson's athleticism alone but as far as what was the scheme question again while scheme question. I'm going to get to that in a second. 'cause you said something that makes me think you can't hope is not a plan kyle. You can't go into the season. Just hoping that jimmy garoppolo comes back and play sixteen games whether they get watson or not. You just can't go into this season saying well. Hopefully jimmy will be healthy for sixteen more games and do nothing else. A quarterback do not disagree with one word. You just said. I would imagine there would be some type of backup added if that was the case but again kyle also said. We're not going to invest in multiple court like multiple quarterbacks that position because he just need to start her so that argument is fair and that argument is also going to be the reason i imagine if they do move on from jimmy that that happens because we have evidence of him not being able to stay on the field so if you cannot sound field and you are being paid. Twenty seven million. It doesn't matter who you're backup quarterback is. You're hurting the team. Because you're not on the field so whether it's course no injuries of the players fault but they have to look at it from a team building standpoint and if their team is not the best they're going to need jimmy just jimmy. Jimmy has sailed. That's what has happened. There's no reason for this level of loyalty. It's not like when he's healthy. His play is incredible. And so you were willing to stick it out. Like ben rothlisberger used to be back in the day. You'll get banged up and miss some games. But he was so freaking. Good that you're going to stick with it. That has not been jimmy garoppolo. You earn passed up tom. Brady for jimmy. Garoppolo and brady threw forty touchdowns this year which not many people do in the history of the nfl time. It's ever happened something like that. So you've already passed up brady one upgrade for him. Now you're gonna potentially pass up. I don't wanna say to shawn watson. 'cause it's not likely but anything else that they would do and keep jimmy again. Like how many years can you afford to do this. it is. it's all hope because again it goes back to what we know. What he's we know what he is as a quarterback and if he's going to start in two thousand twenty one it's because there is hope and they're they're just looking at this as a result space and they're not going through the process because if we do the process when we're showing these were watching the gang's back on tuesday whether it's this year whether it's last year people forget there were plenty of turnovers and bad plays at jimmy made in the game so they would win these games but that should not distract us from the process of what actually happened in those gains. And that's not just the playoffs where they took the ball out of his hands. That's in the regular season. Yes he came back and had good numbers after he turned the ball over. But you you'd want a quarterback that doesn't have to get there and there's there's so many there's that one stat wear jimmy's numbers through after an interception. Okay that's why are we. Why are we rewarding him for a mistake. That's not how it works. So i think that's why lean you know whether it stafford whether it's a quarterback because you can get his production for cheaper and if you're going to pay quarterback that much the production needs to be better and doesn't need we. Don't we're looking at box scores and bottom lines instead of the process. And that's that's why we're having the same discourse over and over so when it comes to watson let's say that the planets aligned and you know the clouds parted and somehow john lynch and caution and pull off the deal and they get to shawn watson. How well does he fit in. Kyle system quarterback in the nfl to fit cal. Shanahan system shawn watson going to be probably number one or number two so you want a guy that can move the safety with his eyes move. Linebackers his is. I think this year. More than more than i've ever seen him. Because i as i mentioned. He's one of my favorite player. So i go out of my way to watch the shawn watson this year more than ever. I've seen him be able to manipulate. What defense is due. And you hear people talk about reference their office of line. He makes their offense of live better than it is. And it's already not a very good office line so without him he he runs out of pressures. He avoids sacks one of the biggest things. This year is unblocked defenders. Because the fences are doing whether simulated pressures whether it's sending six when you have five you have to have a quarterback that can either get rid of the ball hot or avoid an unblocked defender and watson is like video game winner. There's an unblocked because he's just going to make the miss also this year. I think there was four times more rushing touchdowns by quarterbacks than any other year in the nfl. have shawn watson. now you have your goal line. You're short yard situation. So you in high leverage situations you now have an eleven th man that the defense has to account for so when you factor in what shanahan can add to his offense and that goes without his depot accuracy or being able to even attempt or give guys chance that man. I would say that this shawn watson the odds of him being the mvp within the next two years with college shannon. I mean those are bets. You make because it's going to happen so ceiling everything you make your defense better you make. You're running game better because now Teams can't sit in to high safeties. They have to bring in one because after just respect everything that.

"And obviously the texans were asked about the situation the press conference. It was the first thing they were asked now. Nick zero said to shawn watson is our quarterback then he was followed up with. Does that mean that the shawn watson is not going to be traded and he said that it is important for us to take some time and they will have discussions with shawn watson at the appropriate time. Kyle and i've said it before. There are some questions when there is only one answer that you can give and if you say anything else other than that answer we know what you really mean if they say does this mean he won't be traded and you say you don't say anything other than no he won't be traded. He could get moved very simple. Just close the book right there. Will he be traded nope. He's our franchise quarterback we love him. We signed him to an extension. This year you will be with a franchise for the next five whatever how ever many years he signed through but he just gave another answer. So that's why all the talking heads are going to continue to come up with these hypotheticals about the shawn watson being traded and it's fair because gm did not close the door on that. If i ask you if you want to marry me and the the next word out of your mouth is not yes or some form of that. You don't wanna marry me like it is very very simple and you nailed it. He's twenty five years old. He's an absolute stud. His contract is not untradable even though he just signed there would be about a twenty. What is it twenty. One point six million dollars cap it. I think something in that ballpark like this is possible. I'm not saying it's you know he's definitely going to the forty niners but it's definitely possible. He gets traded absolutely and as you mentioned his contract. You factor in the money that houston save as well and again new. Gm they're starting over so for all we know watson's not his guy even though he's one of the best quarterbacks nfl you should claim him but he could very well want to recoup draft picks. Get up because if you do trade watson you're going to be able to get whatever you want you can say. Three first round picks three second round picks. And somebody's going to be like yeah. I'll do that for watson. Because why wouldn't you so if that's how chooses to go then i don't know there's just so many different rows today can go and again just say no like he could have easily stopped this right now. That's the most telling thing you could have stopped this and you chose not to. It wasn't a mistake like you. They chose their words carefully. And so this is where we are and you know there was a report out of houston that they're not gonna trade him and all that but dis- shaun's got a little a little muscle that he can flex here because first of all he has a no trade clause so he's not going to go anywhere he doesn't want go but also you know he could boycott offseason workouts. Those are voluntary. He does not have to show up for those. You know it's instead of being the guy that comes early and stays late. You're the guy that comes late and leaves early like there's a minimum amount of stuff. You can do all within the rules of without violating your contract. That creates a problem for your team. Yeah they're asking for it because they don't have as much leverage and then what did we talk about this. You see people respond to well. The players are on the team. They signed the contract just shot. No that's not how this works man. And you wouldn't do that for your job. So don't act like athletes should do that for. There's it is very simple as they are in control if they are not happy with. What's going on. There's no reason that they to their job. We would not do the same thing so yeah. That's a good point just as far as the offseason things that he can skip out on. He's not going to lose any money if he does so so he has no real reason to go there. He yields a lot more power than i think. People understand so if he wants out he can really get out. And i say this as a fan of a team that has at sometimes been a complete laughing stock of an organization and at sometimes like right now i feel like is one of the best run organizations in all of football reputation matters. Culture matters it matters when you're an organization who used to have an owner that we can't have the inmates running the prison. That stuff matters. And then when you when you combine that with how they're mismanaging their relationship with him and basically slapping him in the face by making them think he's going to be part of the the searches for coaches and gm and then doing the complete opposite. This is what happens. All that stuff adds up. There's no trust there. There can't be any and he wouldn't be acting like that if there was trust. If there was trust they probably would have involved him if there was trust he wouldn't be ignoring them. I said since. Monday or tuesday or whenever this whenever the higher happened it. There's too many things here for us to ignore not and not explore. You know a watson being traded it just. It just doesn't make sense okay. So this is the niners podcast. Let's have a little fun kyle. You sort of talked about it earlier. What does it take to get. The shawn watson went basically everybody in the league separate like three teams is going to be interested in them absolutely. And that's another thing you're going to have. You're going to have to outbid a lot of other teams as well. But i wonder if and i'm not sure if watching a no trade clause or anything but if if you could die okay so if you could control his destiny than you do hold more cards than obviously another team that that doesn't have a as strong of a roster as you. So i'm going to go to the texans. I'm going to show them my roster. So they don't have a first or second round pick this year so that's theirs and we already know that i'm going to give them that. I'm gonna probably give them next year's first as well with which you're gonna have to anyway and probably next year second and hey you can have anybody. But i am boza. Take your pick and if that gets done then. That's what i'm going to do. I know a lot of people would probably not want to trade. George kittle going to trade tight end for a quarterback and i know how how good of a player. George kittle is i now dominate. He is he is the best tight end in the nfl. He's not as valuable as the shawn watson and we have to think of it in those types of terms. So that's why me no bosa best. He's going to be the best player in the nfl or going to be the best defense in the nfl for years to come and i it's not that he's not tradeable. I just would rather have watson have a guy to have that type of player to throw too because you know you don't want to set him back so that's probably what i'm doing. I'm going to give them essentially whatever they want. How about you well. You didn't mention fred warner when you mentioned the two guys that are on tradeable would you. Would you put warner in a deal. That's that's a tough question. Because i mean he's right he probably be the next or one of the top. He's one of the top five. But if that's what. It took for me to get a quarterback like not just a quarterback deshaun watson who i know is going to be a dominant player one of the best quarterbacks in the nfl for the next ten years. Yeah i'd be willing to unload linebacker and in that sense. And obviously fred warner is covers like a safety but we have to talk about it in terms of positioning when fred warner was off the field i imagine the forty niners drop is not that steep compared to what a quarterback compared to deshaun.

"Were the niners give out. Yes it's cool they I believe who else was in the top is juice was up there and i think mcglinchey was up there. I think those were the top three. I've voted my honorable. Mentioned was for john and nobody else monterey as well just because and they might not let me go next year because of that but just because his one word three word answers safe so much and he you could just tell he's not bear for the bso. I loved him this year. Absolutely i totally agree with you. Like you don't have to say a lot of words to say a lot. And his median sessions literally. I download the files every week. They're about like ninety seconds to three minutes. But i almost always use one of his answers in like stats and eggs or something. Because it was good. Yeah i don't think. I really don't think he had anything longer than two and a half minutes. But you got so much out of that. Because he's just it almost sounds like he hates watching himself. Play leading the way you describe it. It's like man. I just have to be better. It's not enough one that's it. That's all i loved it. Great he is awesome. And speaking of awesome deshaun watson just before i lay out all the crap that's going on in houston can we to explain to people how good he is the year after he loses. Deandre hopkins to the cardinals. He leaves the league in passing yardage. Like this guy is incredibly set career highs in passing yardage passing touchdowns Completion percentage. I think he had a career low and interceptions this season. Also only through seven picks. Can you imagine it. The forty niners quarterbacks only through seven picks this year they being the damn super bowl and he was throwing to nobody like he had no receivers outside of brandin cooks. Who you probably don't want being your top receiver. Who i think it was. Chad hansen like a california receiver. Actually from a few years back. That was one of his main targets. The last few weeks and he's still near the top in every statistical category without an want obviously get into like scheme. Talk here but they don't have any sort of check down option. He's doing everything by himself and he's always running for his life at is the most difficult offense to plan. And he's still in my heart in my opinion. He's the second best quarterback in the nfl. But i don't think anybody would argue that. He's outside the top five so for him to be able to do what he did this year forever. You factor in all his surroundings superstar. Just he should get an mvp boat seriously and if there was one person you would think that the houston texans would want to keep happy in their entire organization. It would be the shawn watson but instead they're doing the complete opposite. So here's what happened if you don't understand. The texans need a head coach and they needed a gm and does shawn watson went to them and said hey. I want to be part of this process. I want you know. I've got ideas for who we should interview for head coach ideas about the general manager. I wanna know what you're thinking. I want to be part of the process and houston texans. Said okay sounds great. And then like two days later. They hired nick caserio from the patriots. Who by the way wasn't even on the list of finalists from the search firm that the houston texans themselves hired to find a gm head coach so they told their franchise quarterback he could be part of this and then completely gave him the middle finger and now he has basically ghosted the texans. I'm pretty sure they didn't interview enemy either. I think that's one of the only teams that didn't interview any so watson. Adam schefter reported this on thursday watson went to the houston ownership. He said patrick mahomes. You know the guy who just want super bowl gave me some really did info about arab enemy. Let's interview him because he could help our franchise and they probably did the same thing. Yeah sure that sounds great. We're going to do it. And as soon as he shuts the door. They're probably laughing at his face. Like i don't know what made him think that he's he's this level. But we're not going to trust him. It's just completely disrespectful. Knowing that everything that's happened in the franchise's last year after they just slapped him in the face by not telling them. They traded for andre hopkins. They're going to do the same thing again. So that night did shawn watson tweeted. Some things never change deleted it and then you just saw what his agent what. It is. Just put up on friday. So his agent is david mugabe and he tweeted nepotism at an all time high. Shout out to those of us who got it out the mutt now. I just want to point out. He tweeted this at the exact moment. That texans owner callum mcnair started speaking at the press conference to introduce nick caserio. So that tells you his level of animosity with the texans. Now i want to be fair and point out that he deleted the tweet and later tweeted haha actually a reference to politics this time. Everything isn't about football guys. But hey whatever gets clicks. I guess which is a low to bulk mail. I'm sure he was watching the news at ten o'clock in the morning. Just focusing on the rioters from the white house. That's what. He was focused on not football. Where the texans where he has the press sheet knowing exactly what time they're going to take the podium come on man if there's no reason to delete it if that was the case so we're gonna call bs on. That and watson is not answering the calls. He's he's totally ghosting them..

"Well the relationship between the dean and his brother Is is a very interesting dynamic in the whole story chat a little bit about that. So people are clued into paying attention to that relationship. Sure When i started that the novel i thought that it was going to be a story that featured the twins dean and roy lindemann about twin brothers both in love with the same woman and although that that remained in the novel it's not primarily about the brothers. It's about eighty. I mean she just was such a compelling interesting character and with such jets to her that she just sort of came to the front of the stage so to speak The brothers sort of compete for her She is a in the opening section. She's married to gain lender mun but dean oddly has somehow lost interest in her and i think it has something to do with his relationship with his brother was a a womanizer and who has been pursuing easy for years whether she's married to his brother or not and So you have some strange things happening with their roles They compete there. They Remain on good terms all of them. Do ed. At some point feels as though to save her marriage. She needs to get her husband away from his twin brother who casts a shadow over both of them. She doesn't she doesn't succeed. Yeah well i mean you also point out that dean being a kinder person also a little less strident strong as a character. He had this idea that he wasn't supposed to feel jealous so he really didn't know what to do with the feel Towards his brother like because they were both innocence competing for the attention and affection of easy though he had married her so that whole role of jealousy played out differently between dean and her second husband. Gary yes exactly. And when dean says he feels he has felt jealousy but he he hasn't expressed it. That's what he he he had difficulty with. And so i think it happens that sometimes eighty percent has perceived that as a lack of interest.

"I want to start our conversation with a moment from your interview with the Shawn Watson for your latest ESPN cover story because you talked to him in July over zoom from your home in northern California where you are now and he was two thousand miles away in Houston and you ask them this very pointed question you asked what? ? Mean, , challenges does a lack quarterback face when decided to speak up on social issues. . How did this Shawn Watson answer that question? ? Pablo he answered it in two different ways and to very illustrative ways I would say. . He started by saying I. Think . you have to watch what you say sometimes. . See I think I think you have to watch what you say sometimes. . That was the the standard answer. . And then he stopped he looked down is if almost to chastise himself, , he slapped his hands on his knees and he said, , honestly I'm GonNa take that back I felt like. . I felt like. . Whenever. . Black. . quarterback especially speaks up dowse world sometimes on their educated enough to know what's going on. . So in reality they like, , Hey, , all. . Black QUARTERBACK S. . Shut up I know talking about. . That switch that he made taking it from what the outside world would think of him to what he thinks of that I thought was was really indicative of this change that he's made personally in the last say six months. . It was like he's still a work in progress. . He's twenty four years old. . He's a young man and he's still sort of has to remind himself that he's no longer straddling this corporate line that he's had to to straddle for three years as an NFL quarterback. . Let's trace that trajectory then because in profiling Watson, , you traveled to his hometown. . Of GAINESVILLE. . Georgia what did you learn about his thing? ? He started out in a public housing project pulled Harrison Square, , and if you watch to Sean play, , you'll see the wristbands that have eight, one, , , five on them, , and that is as a Al-Majd to eight one, , five Harrison Square where he started out with his mom and three siblings. . Everyone says to Sean was was just this facilitator. . He was everyone's and. . He had this charisma about him where he would bring other people along just because he was confident in how good he was. . He had been developing as a phenomenal athlete, , not just a football player, , but he was a great basketball player. . and to Sean was just had this ability, , he could do whatever he wanted even at that age. . He would always pass the ball. . He would always pick the kid at the end of line and bring him on his team. He . just had that welcoming personality and he was not boastful he was quietly confident. . And he became the star of Gainesville. . "Get this close to thanksgiving. I was remember talking to rob Watson over Watson insurance. About a story this this is talk about having the right insurance for your specific situation. And that's what Watson does whether it's a business or whether you're individual house, auto, whatever the case may be. They get to know you. They get to know your business. They get to know your circumstances. They make sure you have the right insurance for your particular set of circumstances that two years ago right before thanksgiving Roberts told me a story about a family that experience their worst nightmare for AM in the morning. They wake up houses on fire. Everybody gets out safe even the dog, but the house is almost a total loss. And eventually they figured out. They had an electrical issue. They had insurance with Watson insurance. Rob Watson was out of town that day. But he gets the call. He gets his team to work for the family right away. And they're on the scene at eight A M, four hours after that fire started eight AM in the morning Watson is there helping that family, and that's the Watson way. And that's not only having the right insurance for your particular circumstances. But that's how they take care of their customers. If you have an eight hundred number to get anything, insurance wise or information that eight hundred number is not going to be standing in your front yard at eight o'clock in the morning. So here's what that homeowner had to say about their experience with Watson Watson was with me. Every step of the way seemed like my claim was their only claim they cared about us getting our house rebuilt, but they really cared about me and my family, and we think that this will never happen to us. But when it does it's nice to have Watson, go above and beyond. I'm so glad that we had him on our side Watson insurance. Three offices in North Carolina. One office in South Carolina column. Local call somebody will pick up one eight hundred the number to go Watson..

"IBM reported earnings Wednesday. The company has been on a long turnaround path and did report third straight positive quarter. Most of that came from cloud services, security and data analytics, less impressive though was the cognitive solutions department, which includes artificial intelligence, mostly represented by the jeopardy. Winning supercomputer Watson. There are of course lots of companies working on artificial intelligence these days. Brandon pursell is an analyst with Forrester. He said, IBM sells AI as a service and a PI or application programming interface that lets companies licensed the power of Watson and build their own tools on top of it, like digital assistants or in house analysis tools. I asked him how that business works at the core of watching is used dozen or so API's that do different types of of AI. So like computer vision or natural language, understanding which you would use to build a chat bot those are strong capabilities, but still. Acquire very technical resources on the part of the enterprise to use them together as components for an artificially intelligent solution. One of the issues as well with Watson is that IBM has taken that term Watson and kind of labeled all of their products Watson this and Watson that into a certain degree. That's diluted the essence of what watching is. You're saying, if the, if the analogies, the gold rush, there's AI to make your product better which you would. You know, if you're Google or Facebook, you're gonna use it to make your product better and that's like the gold. And then there's a I, that you could sell to companies to make their products better like shovels, so which is that a fair characterization and then which side is the better business? That's definitely a fair assessment and gold rushes a good is a good term. The real value in a I is in the data, the EU's to train it, the size of that data. And also how relevant that data is to the use case that you're interested in, you know, conversational interfaces in a way they're still in their infancy, but I can easily see a world where you know Google Amazon IBM have all nailed conversation for computers. And what differentiates for the brands using this is actually the intelligence that goes into what the interfaces are saying. So they understand English, but. Are they actually saying the right thing to customers? Are they actually understanding the context of that customer experience deliver the right response? That's where the big bucks are going to be so far Google and Facebook trying to license their artificial intelligence technology today in the same way that IBM parts of it, they are certainly.
