The first of a one to financial punch for beleaguered commuters takes effect Sunday, when tolls on the Turnpike Parkway and a C Expressway jumped by up to 40% step to 18. "About schools in New Jersey. Should they be open? I don't think they're going to make it past six weeks if they do so that being the case, what is the point of reopening? I've got a Twitter poll up, eh? So far, we've got a couple of 100 people taking the poem and 54.8% they do not open schools, 45.2% Say open that schools What do you think? Johnson Watchung, New Jersey 1/1 0.5 I, John. The lawyer, Steve, Um, You think the school's gonna close because the teachers union have too much power. And what's going to change that is once the people who can't afford You know to, uh, they don't have anybody watching the kids and they're standing here for the taxes are going toe. Revenue is going to drop. Teachers are gonna lose their job and then they're going to go backto work. Then they realised they were losing positions here, So that's what's going to change it. But I agree with you, but for a different reason, because the teachers union have way too much power. I don't think it is the teachers union. Your teachers got to go to school anyway, right? If whether the virtual whether they're online or not online, they still have to go to work on my right. If they just had a protest down by the wake Your watcher. These teachers don't want kids in their classroom. No, I get that. But you're saying they're not going to go to work? I mean, you know they're they're not going to lose their jobs as Faras. The kids in the classrooms go. It's It's for a number of reasons, and it's not only the teachers You have parents were paranoid about it. If they opened up the school and there's an outbreak. They're going to close the school. They can't get baseball off the ground. I mean, they've already canceled all the sports. They've cancelled colleges. Great, John, What do you got? You did stay. Don't What happens if the guy if you call us back over, hire a college kid? Watch your to watch your kids. What about the people who can't afford to do that? But that's not the reason to keep you but that's not the reason is saying your kid That was a risky situation, John. Come on, Steve about it. I'm gonna ask you with no questions asked me. People are working. The tax revenue goes down. We'll be able to hold all these features down the road. I'm not talking about tomorrow. Talking about next year, John, I'm gonna tell you this. If I didn't feel comfortable sending my son to school, my son's whether or not I had a job. I ain't gonna do it. I'm not gonna let my my employment status dictate how I feel about the lives of my Children. That's to me is just absurd. That's not even a question. I'll find a way. Judge only be putting food on this. I will find the way John You will or I will hold you must I do have all the answers? That's how I got the job. See, when you don't have the answers, we will get the job the way it works. I'm sorry, son, that he's got to Goto work your luck. It is a nice we got your nice mask. Uh, data is important town in New Jersey, 1/1 0.5. Jenny, How are you? Good. You good? I'm good. Um, I think wanted to put my input on the question. I actually did online private school for like my last two years of high school, and I ended up being able to graduate early from it. Ah, look at you. Yeah, it was really helpful. I was easier like a lot easier for me to, you know, have teachers one on one You could always like. Talk to your teachers have like You know, have them like one on one through like a Skype car or emails or what you do that way, And there was a lot easier. Also not having to worry about like time between classes, or, you know, having to worry about like bringing in papers forgetting things at home like that, not having a lot of kids around you being able to think in your own pee in your own time. And honestly, if you're gonna problem kids doing on my school and to public schools, a lot of kids were Write about like, you know, all the extracurriculars, but it ended up If you're going to go back to school this year, A lot of them would be cancelled anyway. So you're not going over to your sports? Do you like student council all those things without being canceling it? Really would just be making it more difficult for you to have to go all those hours of the day and you're not even going to get all those extracurriculars that you basically a lot of kids like my age would want to go to school for Saito. What school do you go? I went to. I already graduated, but I went Tio Foreign Sound Regional high School. That's where I went to public school. For my 1st 2 years of my last two years, I did online Keystone Academy. And if it's literally just like a lot of the kids, I have friends and they did their last couple years of this, like Corona time online, and there's just like mine, so I was actually helping a lot of like my siblings with how they were like setting things up. Getting used to it, and it made a lot easier for them. Honestly, that is gonna save you mind. I'm gonna put you on hold. I want her. I want to put this on our website. So Sands, my producer. He's going to get some information like your last name your stuff if you are right. And I'm going to write a blood because this is the first positive story for online and I think people need to hear what the advantages of online are say to thank you. Great fall. Great call. Thanks for calling New Jersey One on 1.5 has thought that Nick He's started up and eaten down on New Jersey one on 1.5 and I don't think I could go back to school because what happens is outbreak counts and you could come down, But I don't know. Kids have nothing. I'm looking at the pants to you. The kids come out with the virus. I'm with you. I mean and again, whether they do or they don't. The biggest problem here is going to be. I don't think they're going to be able to last. I think there are too many variables here between the great between the students. The parents Uh, if there's somebody gets it, and then everybody's gonna keep that kid home. It's just not worth. It's not worth the aggravation of the short time that they will actually keep the school open. That's right. They open up period. No, I'm with you. It's not what I mean for that reason perfect the online learning and if you can perfect the online learning Now we got something making. Thanks for the call to New Jersey. One on 1.5 right. Want a noted 2831 on 1.5 Steve Travel lease. I coming up at 10 o'clock. "Lawsuits against the owners of the ship and against the captain who survived by the way, which I thought was interesting. There are pictures of the general Slocum disaster all over the place and for days bodies were washing up on the shore. There were many who were unidentified, and of course, many who were identified and then marked and graves, and of course, put in that cemetery that you mentioned in Queens, New York Joanna, and you've been there, and you've been part of the reunions as. As well. There was a centennial reunion in two thousand four did you get to ever meet some of the other survivors of the disaster. At that time. That's the hundredth anniversary one individual woman was just a very small child at the time or name was leaving. Now her married. Name was weather a little and to the was a nickname for Adela. So it was where she was at that time living in watch jersey. Which was so interesting to me because my husband's father grew up in Watchung, New Jersey, his uncle was mayor of watch on New Jersey, and when I met, but della to be I found out that as a child she was great friends with my husband's and Helen. So I visited hurt her house. She had a huge scrapbook of all this local defense, we met hot three different occasions to be nice at different luncheons. Out on Long Island. But this middle village Metairie where so many of the local deceased are buried. There's also a mute family lot visited at the very first time not only were there. The names of all these people in the family that I never knew my mother had half sisters. There were red is all lined up in front of the stone. And I wouldn't so confused because I have no ordered any flowers, and I didn't know there were flowers there. I went to the office, and they both the card and found out that my grandfather when. Oh family was buried there. Not only purchase perpetual care, but he purchased petrol care with flowers and to that day, they were still putting flowers every summer at the grave. Isn't that incredible? That was the result of your grandfather's order when did he pass away? Nineteen thirty eight year. I was born in January, and I was born in November. So I never knew that's amazing. And so you show up and the flowers that he ordered are there. So are there still reunions going on JoAnne for the Slocum family descendants? I haven't been aware of anything they probably will be another one sometime or another. There's also a memorial and park in New York City to disaster in children's park, and yet as many people as Canadian the Titanic disaster and the triangle factory fire very few would know of the general Slocum disaster. Remember that Germany was not a friend of the United States through the first half of the twentieth century. You know, there was World War One or two and these also were immigrants. So were not wealthy people like the Titanic and the triangle shirt way divorce, so awful declaws. They couldn't escape through the fire escape the doors were all locked shut. So no, not many people knew about this disaster. Not until nine eleven when they would compare it to the other great is exactly what an incredible time. Was it emotional for you to come to the family cemetery within that memorial at that time the front saw there? Not only the motion. It was it was almost other worldly because I had no idea that that my grandfather had been married once before I didn't know that my uncle had a different mother, my nanna, Mike grandmother, I thought growing up that they were husband and wife, and my mother was born and she had an older, brother. I just never knew. There was another family, and then to see all these names into c three little girls names and their ages and. Emotional. Yes. Absolutely. And then I am mmediately wanted to find out more. And I went to this New Yorker store cO library and saw the reached all the original news paper story from when the event happened in your family name is mentioned in there quite a bit. Isn't it? Yeah. Just thinking about how person thinking continue to go on. But my grandfather, I guess had to go on because he had a son and no way. And he didn't know how to cook probably or how to clean house or probably also part of that German community and a lot of people lost, folks. So maybe they all kind of came together, right? Well, yes. And no the whole section of Manhattan became totally transformed. It was quiet. There were no children laughing and running around the streets. My grandfather, he left that part of New York and went up town to escape it to get away from to start all over again. Church became a Jewish temple. Yeah. It was one of those really really awful awful tragedy. She's joanne. Schmidt from Dutchess county, New York. She schmidt. I gotta get that in there. Joe? Absolutely. She's my cousin. And I love you. Joe? Thanks so much for the story. I I can't imagine why we've never talked about it on the show before because I think it is one of those incredible disasters. It's worthy of mention that happened in the course of New York history. But in the United States is a whole, right? Thanks so much Joe. Okay. This is.

Route twenty two will be the better idea and then farther down the line. More construction delays for about three miles from west of exit twenty nine outtakes twenty four again, route twenty two the best alternative. Meanwhile, the turnpike and the Parkway moving along. Okay. One in nine south of protein in Newark airport. Looks like a Recco almost picked up. You may still see some police activity in the local and express lanes in both ways at north avenue. "Listed the five. I'm sorry. The fifteen remaining Sears in New Jersey one of them. It says watch on. Okay. But that's closed as far as I know. And even looked it up and it says permanently closed, and then I looked up the articles. It was August of twenty seventeen that was announcing their final sales before the doors closed in September of two thousand seventeen. In fact, that was the location do you? Remember, these kind of human interest stories about this mural. I I remember talking about that. Yes. And they were trying to find a home for the mural point touchdown. That was for so many generations at the. Cheers. But it was over the escalator or something over over the stairs over the stairs that lead downstairs and I walked under that mural probably five hundred times as a kid. And so I am all but certain that that watch on Sears is closed. Now. I don't know what they mean by remaining do they just mean an empty building remaining? Or I mean, you would think they mean still open. That's the way I would interpret the exactly so I was a little confused by Watchung is on that list. But they say that there fifteen of those and then because the same company owns KMart. They say there are only twelve k mart locations remaining that that is shocking that there are that few kmarts. I don't know why. I'm more surprised by that than I am. I guess I just used to seeing more kmarts in my life. More of a mall thing. So we had to go to a mall to see a Sears. We're used to pass a K mart on the road. All the time bright, but WalMart, man, I mean, obviously, there's still a market for discount goods. Walmart seems to be doing just fine. But KMart got buried. Yeah. Yeah. They really did. And I don't know if this last ditch effort is going to do anything or not. But it just kind of brings up the question. Oh, wait. Some somebody's calling you to watch on about the Watchung Sears. I really hope he gets this on hold. So we can take it because there's a note next to it about what happened to that. That I think it would be pretty interesting. They'll make it seem unlikely that one of the ones going to be saved, right? Exactly. Okay. She's on hold configure Maria in Flemington high. "I think all the kids knew that he was born with it, but he's still would lie about it because why wouldn't the I would to do and that guy had Kool aid hair. I remember Corey Booker. And. And, and he used to tell us that Jimmy Hoffa was buried in his basement for real. And I told my dad about it and my dad laughed. So hardy cried. He said, dude, you, he's, he's, he's trying to tell you Jimmy Hoffa's buried in his basement. And I was like, well, they never found him. He's like Jimmy, Jude, Corey Buber, thought Jimmy Hoffa was buried in his fucking basement in New Jersey because of some cat paw prints that were embedded in the cement. And he was like, Jimmy Hoffa had cats. And the owner new, Jimmy Hoffa. The last owner, new, Jimmy Hoffa, and even in the fucking mafia. So you do that. And I was like, this math is done my friend, my dad about this and my dad can do that math Jimmy Ave in your basement, and we're gonna come down and we're gonna look at it. Am I left? So fucking hard. Dude. He left so hard that he was crying and he said next time he was like, no, Jimmy buried in your friend. Fuck and Korea? Buber's basement. He was like next time you see. He was like next time you leave school. Go, tell Corey Beaubourg does we to say to them? Hafa. Nice day. And my dad was laughing rolling around on the ground actually on the couch, and then he went on the ground rolling around. Self-funding a nice day half a nice day. So no, I don't know if they found Jimmy Hoffa's since or not, but that's not where Jimmy Hoffa was. In Korea, bumpers basement, and he also lied about his pinky being slammed in fucking car door because his mom was at the grocery store and needed to get there very quickly because that's what he said. But anyway, Corey Bogor and I used to fucking catch chicks. We catch girls maybe running around like Rosemary and Ronnie would be running around and we would catch him in once we, we put him anywhere, but we got ya. And then we'd go get another one and they just run around and go on the fucking monkey bars or some shit or whatever. Terrible fucking playground, murderous devices. They had in. Man, who was it? Doug that fucking smashed his balls on the monkey bars. God damn, that was the first real pain I saw as a kid. He was standing on the monkey bars where you try to climb up and he goes and he fell, his balls hit the fucking thing. And he just goes, oh, this face got so red and just ran into the fucking classroom. Fuck man. I think his name was Doug. Wow. What the fuck are these kids doing now? You know, wow. I think Ronnie deemed me recently. I missed. I don't know if I accepted it or not. It's probably kicking around Watchung plaza going to Tony getting some fucking sour patch kids or some warheads to what we used to do. Back then we didn't even know what Asians were. Man. We didn't even know what Asians were dude, and now they got in other taking over with rich, crazy, Asians, dude. God bless. All right. Well, we're done..
